Greetings!
The most compelling on-line demographic resource centre in Australia has been launched! There were no parties or fanfare - it was just quietly uploaded last week at www.id.com.au
.id's new website provides easy access to;
- our team's collective knowledge via the blog
- all of our 500 plus demographic websites via the .idcommunity resource centre
- client resources and case studies
- the full range of demographic resources that you can subscribe to, including .idplacemaker and .idforecasts.
I sincerely urge you to fully exploit this new demographic resource centre, if you're serious about making informed decisions.
Also, check out our cool new animated discovery video that clearly explains the benefits .id offers our clients (for those of you who don't already know).
Sincerely,

Ivan

Focus on the Country
Glenn gives his impression of Roebourne Shire, our most remote population forecast
Here at .id we've just finished our first population forecast for a remote area, the Shire of Roebourne, WA, and I was fortunate enough to be able to travel there recently to launch the forecast and run a training session. Here are my impressions of a remote, mining boom-town. Read more...

We would be happy to provide an obligation-free quote prepared specifically for your area. |
Focus on Local Government Rockhampton's population on a steady growth trajectory .id recently completed population forecasts to 2031 for the Rockhampton Region in Queensland. Census Countdown
Introducing the SA1
As part of the new statistical geography, called the ASGS, the ABS is fundamentally changing the boundaries on which Census data is distributed. It is replacing the Census Collection District with a new unit, called, rather uninspiringly, the SA1, or Statistical Area Level 1. How will this affect Census analysis and in particular, time series? Read more...

inside .id
New "customer-focused" website on-line
We've been so busy building demographic websites for our clients over the last few years, that our own website had got a bit neglected. That's all changed with the launch of our brand new
.id website - id's demographic resource centre
The idea is to share our knowledge and resources with our clients and the general public. You will find:
- access to over 500 demographic websites covering most of Australia (and a bit of NZ)
- a discovery video that shows how knowledge of cities and the way they change can benefit your community (and it's fun)
- ways to keep connected with us through our newsletter, blog and twitter
- client resources including a log-in area, case studies and training information (with more to come)
- information about all of our products and services
- and you can put faces to the names in our "meet the team" section

A word from our researchers Interstate migration converges - what does it mean for NSW and Queensland? From 2007 onwards, NSW's decline in interstate migration loss has been almost equivalent to Queensland's decline in net migration gain. In fact, NSW appears to have been the main driver of migration to Queensland apart from Victoria's large outflows in the early 1990's. Read more... |

Tips and Tricks
'Dominant-emerging' analysis - a simple technique for turning data into knowledge
At training sessions for profile.id and economy.id, we often get asked how to interpret some of the data presented in these tools. We suggest a simple but powerful technique called "dominant-emerging" analysis as a really good way to make sense of the data. It is based on asking two questions about any area. Read more...

Final word
Is your City ready for electric cars?
Earlier this month, Ford (USA) released a list of what it considers to be the 25 "most prepared" cities in the USA for electric vehicles. The criteria they used to develop the list included:
- The City Council has established an EV advisory panel
- The Council provides easy to obtain permits for home charging stations
- The Council is working with utility companies to set up cheaper rates at night for charging
- The Council is using an "Urban Planning" approach to public charge station locations - looking at traffic flows, and heavy parking areas to determine best places for charging stations. Read more...
