We love this time of year! No matter what your age, everyone feels that old "back-to-school" vibe when summer turns to fall and the pace of life quickens. Across America, we all share the excitement of new possibilities--new ideas, new friends, and cooler weather!
We just returned from "LPL School"--our annual conference for LPL financial advisors, brimming with new ideas to help our clients. Despite the volatility in the markets right now, the gifted speakers and educators at this conference affirmed our consistent and steady approach to portfolio management, always keeping an eye on the end goal. We look forward to working with you this fall to help you achieve your dreams.

Join Us at the Fair!
For us, the fall season doesn't officially start until we hear the booming voice of Big Tex welcoming folks to the State Fair of Texas. We can't wait! This year's fair runs from September 30-October 23.
We are pleased to announce that our good friend and design visionary Denise McGaha of M Designs has been selected to create one of four designer showrooms for this year's fair.
Our can't-miss fall ritual is our State Fair break for friends and clients--a chance to gather and enjoy some traditional fair food. This year we are upgrading our annual ad hoc party into a client event at Denise's showroom. SAVE THE DATE! We plan to gather and eat together on October 5, followed by an on-site presentation of her design house. We'll have some special surprises and giveaways to mark the occasion. Details to follow! For more information about Denise's work, visit www.mdesignsinteriors.com. |

Collaboration in Context
Over the last twenty-five years, we've learned a thing or two about wealth management. Our primary job is not to select and buy stocks and bonds--our real job is to manage the collaboration with a team of professionals to help people create enduring wealth.
We firmly believe that working in close collaboration enables us to craft a comprehensive and flexible plan that works to build wealth over the long haul--taking into account factors such as tax minimization, risk management and estate planning.
One of our vital first steps with a new client is to establish good two-way working relationships with their team of professionals, keeping advisors informed about a client's wealth management needs, and bringing them in as a resource during the plan creation process. When a client does not have a key advisor in place, we have an excellent network of professionals. Tannery & Company is well-known for keeping these trusted advisors in the loop every step of the way going forward.
Steve Fuqua of the CPA firm Farmer, Fuqua and Huff, says, "Tannery Wealth Management is very helpful to the professionals and myself in my office by providing quarterly YTD investment income amounts which assist us in providing clients meaningful, timely, and accurate feedback on their current tax planning needs and estimated tax requirements. This 'above and beyond' service really distinguishes Tannery Wealth Management. Our mutual clients receive this high quality service and really appreciate the team approach which the client's CPA firm & wealth management team of TWM provides."
R. Scott Walker, a Dallas-based attorney who specializes in estate planning and probate, says, "We have greatly appreciated having the privilege of working as a team with Tannery & Company for clients to address their estate planning needs. It is always helpful to have advisors who know one another and can communicate fluidly to ensure that all the details are being handled." Scott is a principal at the law firm of Walker & Doepfner, P.C.

Meet the New Guy

We are proud to announce the newest addition to our Tannery Team! In late July, Bob Knode (pronounced Node--the K is silent but he is not) joined our staff and we are excited about the talents he brings to the team.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(TM), Bob has worked with clients from young families to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. When asked about what motivated him to join Team Tannery, he said, "I really enjoy the brisk pace and constant challenges, which helps me think and grow in new ways. I love coaching clients in financial planning, something that I am truly passionate about. Over the long term, I derive tremendous satisfaction in seeing a client's wealth management plan evolve successfully. As George Peppard used to say in the A-Team, 'I love it when a plan comes together!'"
Bob is very active in St. Mark's Catholic Church in Plano as well as the Knights of Columbus. Bob's greatest joy is his family--wife Teresa and three children Andrew, Elizabeth and baby Liam. "I have found family to be the most important part of a person's life to ensure happiness, no matter their current circumstance."
Besides constructing wealth management plans for our clients, Bob is also quite experienced in doing tax preparation. If you want to find out more, visit Bob's LinkedIn Profile. |

Chrissy's Corner
It's no secret that I LOVE the month of September. Dallas finally shakes off the oppressive summer heat and it's fun to get outside again. September is also a great month to get organized and hit the reset button on annual goals. Our office just finished up an extensive vision quest and goal-setting session heading into the busy fall season. We have great things in store! My advice is--spend time in September to take stock of your personal goals. For most people, that includes a comprehensive review of finances. Do it now, well before the holiday rush begins! I'm always here to help if you have any questions. Don't forget our great financial organizer offered exclusively for our clients through our website--Wealth Manager. We take the hassle out of organizing your important papers by uploading all your vital documents into a secure Internet vault--will, tax returns, passport--whatever is important to you! And get out there and kick some leaves! |

Tina's Tip
Great Back-to-School Gadgets
For those who know me, one of my passions is selecting that perfect gift for friends and relatives. If you have children or grandchildren that might need a little technology boost to start their school year out right, here are a few of my suggestions:
- The Livescribe Smartpen: taking good notes in class is key to doing well. This is the best note-taking aid on the market.
- Flashcard App: making and studying with flashcards is a time-tested way to ace difficult tests. Now there's an app for that!
- Your kid will be the envy of everyone on campus toting a Macbook Pro.
- Encourage good health habits for your college-age kids by inspiring them to stock up on the best beverage for grueling study sessions: the Brita Ultramax.
- Leap to hero status by gifting a set of high quality noise-canceling earphones by Shure--a must-have accessory for any teenager these days.
- Security is an issue these days on public school and college campuses alike. This personal alarm will help make anyone feel safer.
- Some kids have a great deal of difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, no matter what you try. This Flying Alarm Clock provides an ingenious solution.

What We're Reading
We saw many presentations last month at the annual LPL Conference in Chicago, but these two topics by Michael Eisner and Sir Ken Robinson really stood out:
Working Together:
Why Great Partnerships Succeed
Out of Our Minds:
Learning to Be Creative

Event Calendar
As days cool down, one of our favorite spots to watch the moon rise is from the bar/patio at the historic Belmont Hotel in Oak Cliff. It's spectacular to see it reflected in the skyscrapers of downtown Dallas. We love to go there during the stunning harvest moon, this month scheduled for September 12.
