Iran could announce a temporary halt to uranium enrichment before next month's U.S. election in a move to save Barack Obama's presidency, a source affiliated with high Iranian officials said today.
The source, who remains anonymous for security reasons, said a three-person delegation of the Obama administration led by a woman engaged in secret negotiations with a representative of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The delegation urged the Iranian leader to announce a halt to enrichment, even if temporary, before the Nov. 6 election, promising removal of some sanctions.
The source said the delegation warned that a Mitt Romney presidency would change the U.S. relationship with Iran regarding its nuclear program.
The U.S. representatives reminded the Iranians that President Obama has stood in front of Israel, preventing the Jewish state from attacking Iran over its illicit nuclear arms policy.
The Oct. 1 meeting, which took place in Doha, Qatar, was coordinated by the Qatar monarchy, whose members attended at the request of the Obama administration.

A new app called "In Obama's own words" is great. Right now it is only for the iPhone. If you are wanting for someone to hear something Obama said that really is awful for our country, and he has said a lot, this app is what you need on your iPhone. It is only $.99. It is well worth it. It is him talking and saying these things that other people can hear when you press the play button. Pass this information on. The guy who made this is had so many requests to make it for other popular cell phones now. He is just a great patriot who is a great computer nerd and did this after hundreds of hours ofwork on it.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.

Why is Hillsdale teaching a course on the Progressive movement?

1. A Look at @ChuckTodd and Conspiratorial Media Incest
I got a great laugh out of this Chuck Todd near meltdown on Meet the Depressed the other day. His voice quivered in moral outrage over Jack Welch suggesting something was up with the unemployment numbers last Friday. Chuck Todd proclaimed, "What we're doing, we're corroding trust in our government in a way, and one time responsible people are doing to control it. And the idea that Donald Trump and Jack Welch, rich people with crazy conspiracy, can get traction on this, is a bad trend."
He really does not get it. Chuck Todd reflects most of the media not getting it. As ratings decline, newspaper fold, and they all scream about how biased Fox News is, they do not get it.. . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. Todd Akin Can Win. The NRSC Will Cut Off Its Nose to Spite Its Face in Missouri.
In 2010, the National Republican Senatorial Committee spent a great deal of time and energy portraying conservatives as the reason the GOP did not take back the Senate. They blamed Jim DeMint for Sharon Angle's win, though he chose not to supporter her in the primary. They blamed Jim DeMint and Sarah Palin for Christine O'Donnell's win, though they endorsed a week before the primary when she was already ahead by double digits. They blamed Jim DeMint and conservatives for Ken Buck in Colorado, though Buck won independents by 18% and suffered through a disastrous state Republican party mess to get there.
It's worth remembering too that the NRSC spent money in Colorado attacking Ken Buck and then couldn't help him across the finish line as the nominee because . . .well . . . they'd spent their independent expenditure budget attacking him. So they did the logical thing - they abandoned a bunch of potential rising stars and went all in with Carly Fiorina who, after having run a money losing bid for the Senate got to be co-chair something or other at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
The past few weeks have been chalk-full of conservative pundits voicing their concerns with the Romney-Ryan campaign.
Let's review.
It began with a POLITICO story citing numerous sources blaming the impending fall of the Republic on Romney strategist Stuart Stevens. Then came the holy trinity of conservative columnisThis is a must-read Sean Trende column on why Obama's bandwagon strategy has demanded that he remain in the lead at every point in the campaign. I've been saying for months now that Obama's fundraising in particular - and even moreso, his ability to deter Romney from raising money from business - was hugely dependent on convincing business interests that Obama's regulators would still be calling the shots after the election and they should not feel safe about going all-in to be rid of him. 4. There Are Two Paths
As we approach the finish line of what I think is one of the most fascinating periods in this great American experiment, a Presidential election, it is clear to me and the team at the Madison Action Fund that we are literally a country at the crossroads of history.
We have the choice between two paths. And while some will complain that the distinction between President Obama and Mitt Romney is not as distinct as it could be (I cede that point), one thing is clear.
Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-08) is the real deal. He is a true conservative of principle. And he will not back down. He not just votes right on these issues, as a freshman member of Congress he has led on numerous Conservative priorities including leading our balanced Budget Amendment fight. Yes there are other Conservative Members like Joe who fight the good fight, and fortunately for us most of them hail from safe Republican districts. That is not the case with Joe. Joe fights the fight from the belly of the beast. He represents a Democrat district in Cook County Illinois. That's right. 6. Andy Kerr's Campaign Rhetoric, Voting Record at Odds
Despite numerous pledges on the campaign trail to end partisanship and politics-as-usual, Colorado state representative Andy Kerr voted with his party 100 percent of the time on Democratic legislation that was brought to the floor for a final vote. Kerr is currently vying for a seat in the Colorado state Senate.

Florida Family Association launched an email campaign on September 12, 2012 to inform supporters about WTSP's blatant bias for CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations.) Supporters responded by sending thousands of emails to WTSP's advertisers.
WTSP Channel 10 in Tampa Bay aired a primetime, unopposed interview with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Tampa executive director Hassan Shibly on of all days 9-11-2012.
CAIR officials, including Hassan Shibly, have been at the center of debate in Tampa because the Hillsborough County School Board allowed them to make unfettered presentations to hundreds of students regarding Sharia and Islamic advocacy.

The progressive, left media's biased news reports, soured opinions and corrupted columns wrongly influence the otherwise ignorant and trusting people of America to side with Islamists. We can no longer sit back and allow the liberal media to act as an apologist for CAIR. The best way to counter the liberal media's bias is to voice concern to companies that support these news organizations with their advertising dollars.
GOOD NEWS! Eighteen (18) out of twenty seven (27) companies targeted did not advertise again during the first week of October. Based upon prior experience with contacting advertisers, Florida Family Association strongly believes that fifteen (15) of these eighteen (18) advertisers most likely pulled their advertising as a result of receiving emails from thousands of supporters. The names of the companies that stopped advertising because of issues like this one will not be reported in a prominent or public manner because intense scrutiny by opponents could cause advertisers to reverse their decision. However, anyone who kept prior emails from Florida Family Association would be able to figure out which companies stopped advertising.

Metro installs pro-Israel ads that equate radical Muslims with savages ABC TV
Metro in the process of installing a series pro-Israel ads across the transit system Monday that equates Muslim radicals with savages.
The pro-Israel ads read, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilian man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."
One ad will be posted in the Takoma, Glenmont, Georgia Avenue and U Street Metro stations. They will be displayed by 5 p.m. Monday, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says.
"Everyone won't agree with it," says Metro rider Josephine Bremkpa. "It's going to incense people, make them want to react in some kind of way."
The Islamic advocacy group, CAIR, says is planning to arrange for Metro ads promoting tolerance.
"It's designed to incite, it's designed to provoke, it's designed to stigmatize American Muslims," says Ibrahim Hooper of CAIR.
Metro fought the ads, fearing they could spark violence. But a federal judges ruled in favor of them, citing freedom of speech.
U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer said in a one-page opinion Friday that the advertisement must be displayed no later than 5 p.m. on Monday.
The American Freedom Defense Initiative sued last month for the right to display the ads in the Metro system.
Metro officials had delayed putting up the ads up because of the violent reaction in the Middle East to the video the "Innocence of Muslims," which denigrated the prophet Muhammad.
The posters, also up in New York and San Francisco, have been covered with graffiti or had some words removed.
Fair and balanced? Notice that beekeeper and Hamas-CAIR jihad spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper, is front and center, but no spokesperson from AFDI. Hmmmm, did Hooper have his stomach staple removed?

Libya. Egypt. Syria. Iran. Russia. China. America's relations with the world aren't looking too good. President Obama said that in his Administration, America would reach out to other countries as "an equal partner" rather than as the "exceptional" nation that many before him had embraced; that "any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail." His political approach to foreign policy-making decisions that appeal to a political base rather than making military sense-is putting American lives and American interests in danger. All the while, he is gutting the defense budget, supposedly to free up money for his domestic agenda. This is weakening defense and military readiness, which is a perilous strategy.
The President defined his foreign policy doctrine early, and Heritage experts have carefully analyzed it. There are many examples of the Obama Doctrine in action, but here are just a few of the ways its four tenets have failed America and its allies.
1. America will ratify more treaties and turn to international organizations more often to deal with global crises and security concerns like nuclear weapons, often before turning to our traditional friends and allies.
The Obama Administration has distanced itself from Israel, even as Palestine seeks recognition as a state at the United Nations absent a peace treaty. President Obama has spoken out against this, but the Administration needs to take a harder line to support America's ally.
2. America will emphasize diplomacy and "soft power" instruments such as summits and foreign aid to promote its aims and downplay military might.
The Obama Administration has held talks with the Taliban-the enemy U.S. and coalition forces originally routed in Afghanistan following 9/11. Those gains have eroded over the past few years, and the Taliban are simply waiting out the withdrawal of troops now to recapture their power.
3. America will adopt a more humble attitude in state-to-state relations.
The Administration had to abandon its engagement policy with Iran when it met with reality. More recently, the Administration has failed to provide clear leadership on the subject of a deteriorating Syria. As Heritage's James Phillips and Luke Coffey wrote, "Now the Administration is reduced to pleading for Russian cooperation at the United Nations despite Vladimir Putin's cynical efforts to prop up his Syrian ally with arms while denouncing foreign intervention."
4. America will play a more restrained role on the international stage.
The Administration was slow to determine a position on the rebellion in Egypt and has stood on the sidelines while the new Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, a longtime member of the anti-Western Muslim Brotherhood, presses an anti-Western agenda. Phillips points out that Morsi "has set Egypt on a troubling new foreign policy course since coming to power in June. His government has distanced itself from Washington while cozying up to China, improving relations with Iran, and violating its peace treaty with Israel."
Has Obama had some successes? As Heritage's Kim Holmes put it, "To the extent that there has been any success in the area of counterterrorism-killing Osama bin Laden, for example-it is mainly because Obama kept in place things that President Bush and his predecessors had implemented, not only in counterterrorism, but in detainee policy (for which he has gotten into trouble with his political base)."
Appeasement has never worked. America must stand up for itself and its allies, regardless of political concerns or international opinion.

I grew up in what can only be described as a "liberal" Jewish household in Peoria, Illinois. We went to a "reform" temple where, when we were growing up, keeping kosher and certain other Jewish traditions of the "other" temple in town, the "orthodox" institution, were not observed.
It was often suggested that our congregation was so reform that it was actually Unitarian.
Amidst all of that liberalism, however, was a strong educational ethic, and we went to Sunday School at Temple Anshai Emeth until we were sophomores in high school. We learned about Jewish traditions-observed or not-and we spent a lot of time learning about another Jewish interest that was a lot more fresh in the 50s and 60s-Israel.
Looking back, at age 60, it's been a comparatively long time since Adolph Hitler exterminated something over six MILLION of my ancestors and, after World War II-when the extent of what Hitler accomplished in the way of genocide became clear-the concept of "never again" became very real.
It was out of the World War Two Holocaust that a Jewish state became a reality. A tiny little sliver of Middle Eastern land where Jews would always be welcome. A living memorial with a military force to make sure that another Adolph Hitler could not wipe the Jewish people from the face of the Earth.
Given the times-less than 25 years had passed-it was a little easier to put Israel into perspective for people of my generation.
Today, not so much. The words Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Dachau, and Buchenwald no longer carry the instant ability to still a conversation-primarily because, except for students of history, very few people born after 1970 know where they are or their significance. Time has a way of making the horrible a little more acceptable.

Sesame Street wants President Obama's campaign to take down its latest attack ad against Mitt Romney, which features Big Bird.
"Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns," a Tuesday statement on Sesameworkshop.org reads. "We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down."

The TIPP poll shows Mitt Romney has closed up a 7 point deficit since last month - oh how generous of them! Like so many other polls, however, this one attempts to balance a brick on a pin point. The problem is, there is nothing in TIPP's accompanying internals that supports its headline numbers.
From the earliest days of this campaign the truth of Barack Obama's numbers has remained the same: he is not winning any group he lost and not doing better with any group he did win in 2008.
These numbers are black and white and not subject to interpretation.
On the day Barack Obama signed his ObamaCare bill into law, Matthew Staver, the Founder and Dean of the Liberty University School of Law filed one of the first private lawsuits against the new Act, claiming ObamaCare mandated the forced, direct funding of abortion, a clearly unconstitutional violation of the free exercise of religion.
Though the University's lawsuit has been held up by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals which argued that the Anti-Injunction Act prevented the court hearing the merits of the case, that barrier was torn down by the June Supreme Court decision on ObamaCare. As a result, Liberty immediately renewed its petition that the Supreme Court review its case.

There is some discussion within the Christian community about who to vote for in the upcoming elections. Some are even questioning if they should vote at all. In the race for president, on the one hand you have one man who claims to be a Christian yet supports causes and policies that clearly violate biblical morality like abortion and homosexual "marriage."
On the other hand, we have a gentleman who is a member of church that promotes a different theological doctrine than historical Christianity teaches. What to do?
I have an excellent article here, written by historian Stephen McDowell, president of the Providence Foundation, that answers this dilemma to my satisfaction. It is not short, as it is well thought out and well documented. But it answers a lot of questions in biblical manner.
I encourage you to read and then send it out to as many people as you can.

Obama Campaign Lashes Out With 'Big Bird' Attack

It's as though Barack Obama didn't diminish himself enough during his debate with Mitt Romney and decided diminishing himself was actually a good tactic. And so, in the immediate aftermath of the debate debacle, instead of showing some dignity as other presidents before him have after a loss, Team Obama started a nanny-nanny-boo-boo name-calling campaign. In ads and in interviews and presidential speeches, Romney's been called everything from a "liar," to a "flip-flopper."
Obama isn't just a sore loser, he's a petulant, dishonest, crybaby, narcissist loser.
What kind of man could have watched the happenings on the streets of Tehran and done nothing, not even lend verbal support? I cannot imagine the Democrats of my youth -- JFK, Hubert Humphrey, etc. -- acting in such a callow and insensitive manner. I also do not believe for a minute that Mitt Romney, had he been president, would have failed to give the Greens his backing in some shape or other.
Given the technically defined poor, the very rich, the public unions, government hires, the intellectual and celebrity carriage trade, the liberal misinformed, and the caste of the under-educated, supplemented by a skewed electoral system in which voter turnout is often trumped by party entrenchment, we may well be looking at a second term for arguably the most destructive president in all of American history.
Mitt Romney had a stellar debate performance and delivered a "confident" foreign policy address. This has revived his moribund campaign, energized his supporters, and put the magic back in opinion polls.
Leaders of the House Intelligence Committee have arrived at the conclusion that doing business with two Chinese telecom giants is far too risky to national security and advised U.S. companies to find other vendors. The national security threat is too great -- and the House probe could also bring charges for immigration violations, bribery and corruption, and copyright infringement.
Paul Ryan Ends Interview Abruptly After Reporter Asks "Strange" Question on Gun Violence
GOP Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan apparently got a little fed up with a local reporter after getting grilled on gun control in a recent interview.
The reporter begins by asking Ryan if he believes the country has a gun problem. Ryan responds, saying, "This country has a crime problem." The reporter presses him, saying, "Not a gun problem?" But Ryan doesn't back down. "No. If you take a look at the gun laws we have, I don't think President Obama is even proposing more gun laws ... we need to enforce our laws; we have lots of laws that aren't being properly enforced."
Ryan went on to detail ways to decrease crime rates in our nation's inner cities.
"The best thing to help prevent violent crime in the inner cities is to bring opportunity to the inner cities, to help people get out of poverty in the inner cities, to help teach people good discipline and good character; that's civil society."

On Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan face off in the only vice presidential debate of the campaign. Both men are eager for the number two job. But why?
After all, the vice presidency hasn't always been a coveted office. At the dawn of the republic, it was a constitutional consolation prize: the vice president was the person who finished second in the Electoral College.
Few of the 47 vice presidents in American history are noteworthy. Don't worry if you haven't heard of Hannibal Hamlin or Richard Mentor Johnson. In fact, most VPs prior to the 20th century are memorable because either they became president or shot Alexander Hamilton.
Constitutionally, the vice president's role amounts to presiding over the Senate and casting the tie-breaking vote, opening the electoral votes, and becoming president if his predecessor dies, resigns, or is "incapable of discharging his duties."
FDR's first Vice President John Nance Garner summarized these duties more poetically as "not worth a bucket of warm [spit]."
And yet, buckets aside, the vice presidency is more today than it used to be.
Early VPs had little to do in the executive branch. They kept an office on Capitol Hill and presided over the Senate. They neither attended cabinet meetings nor crafted policy.
But this changed in the 20th Century. First, as Harold C. Relyea reveals in "The Vice Presidency: Evolution of the Modern Office, 1933-2001," there were meetings to attend and even chair. As the first president to go overseas, Woodrow Wilson relied on his vice president, Thomas R. Marshall, to chair the Cabinet meetings in his absence.
Beyond attending meetings, FDR's number two men actively participated in cabinet meetings, acted as liaisons to Capitol Hill, and traveled abroad in the president's stead. Truman's vice president (Alben Barkley) was the first to sit on the National Security Council. Richard Nixon took an even greater role in cabinet meetings and councils. Vice President Lyndon Johnson established an office in the Executive Office Building next to the White House.
Then, in the 1970s Congress gave the vice president a budget to hire his own staff. Previously, VPs borrowed employees from other departments and agencies. Now, Gerald Ford had his own national security adviser and his own counsel. Walter Mondale added his own staff for domestic policy. Gradually, the vice president's staff mirrored that the president's staff. Soon, vice presidents started acting as if they were, in fact, in charge.
Proximity, staffing and personalities have made the office steadily more powerful. From Walter Mondale to Joe Biden, vice presidents not only kept offices near the boss and met routinely with him, they also helped shape the policy agenda. They exercised their policy power through their membership on various policy commissions, councils, and task forces. Some, including Al Gore and Cheney, had the president's ear and his trust.
The days of selecting a veep simply because they're likely to deliver a crucial state's electoral votes are over. Obama, after all, would have won Delaware in 2008 no matter what, while George W. Bush had Wyoming's three Electoral Votes sewn up far before Cheney joined the ticket.
Paul Ryan follows this trend. He may help Romney carry Wisconsin, but what he really brings is legislative experience and policy ideas. He's an intellectual force in the U.S. House of Representatives. His budget, The Path to Prosperity, which the House passed earlier this year, is a blueprint for spending and entitlement reform. Biden, for his part, touted foreign policy experience Obama lacked in 2008. While in office he's been asked to oversee the implementation of the stimulus spending.
The vice president is now a policy driver, and our country is at a crossroads. The winner of this election can either help guide the country even further along the road to progressivism, or help it begin a long, slow turn back toward the principles of the American founding.
This is the country's choice. The ensuing debate over that choice and our options will allow the American people to determine their own future. The cast of characters is set. Let the debate begin.

Education Policy Shapes First Presidential Debate By Lindsey Burke
Last week's presidential debate included quite a few specifics on education policy from both President Obama and Governor Romney. President Obama's call for more federal spending on education was no surprise. But his choice to highlight the Administration's involvement in pushing states to adopt national standards and tests was remarkable.
The President stated that 46 states had raised their standards as a result of his policies, leaving no doubt that he was referring to the Common Core national standards push. To date, 46 states have adopted the Common Core State Standards, incentivized with $4.35 billion in Race to the Top funds along with access to No Child Left Behind (NCLB) waivers.
The President could have referenced a number of education policy changes during the debate, but it's noteworthy that his push to nationalize standards and tests was at the top of his list.

Prior to Education Secretary Arne Duncan's speech at the National Press Club last Tuesday, we issued five questions for the Secretary to answer. Here's what Duncan had to say in regard to each of the topics we presented:
Support for Education Unions
In his speech, Duncan touched on the need to "support accountability and a fair system of evaluation" for teachers, to allow them to "get better and hone their craft." He took pride in the beginning of "a national conversation...to think boldly about how to create career pathways" for teachers as well as "how to boost their pay, attract great talent and ultimately transform the entire profession."
But education unions stand in the way of these types of reforms-those that reward quality teachers and increase accountability. The outcomes of the Chicago Teachers Union strike are a poignant example of this, yet Duncan doesn't see the disconnect, stating in a recent NBC interview that the outcomes of the strike are "great for children."
"Hiring hundreds of thousands of additional teachers won't improve student achievement. It will bankrupt state and local governments, whose finances are already buckling under bloated payrolls with overly generous and grossly underfunded pension and health benefits.
For decades we have tried to boost academic outcomes by hiring more teachers, and we have essentially nothing to show for it."

Last week's September job report once again showed very little improvement in the job market.
Even though the unemployment rate dropped by three tenths of a percentage point, from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 in September, the fact is that 12.1 million Americans remain unemployed and the economy only created 114,000 new jobs last month.

Congress has gone home until after the election... The irresponsible behavior of Congress and the President in bringing the nation to this state means a significant slowdown is already almost certain. But Alex has been sweetly following me down the hall at the Watergate when I go to the elevator. That's what my mother used to do. She would trudge behind me silently, get in the elevator with me, just look at me, then go back upstairs with a tear in her eye. This went on for about ten years before she died.

Romney Up!
What a difference one debate can make! After weeks of disappointing polling data, the numbers have clearly turned in Mitt Romney's favor. According to the latest Pew poll, two-thirds of registered voters, including 78% of independents who tuned in, said Romney won the debate. As a result, the poll found Romney leading Obama 49% to 45% among likely voters.
In addition, a Politico poll released yesterday found that among those who were "extremely likely" to vote, Romney lead 52% to 46%.
We are still 28 days away, and a lot can happen between now and then. This is not the time to get complacent. This is the time to redouble our efforts!
Find just one "soft" Obama voter from 2008. (Do not waste your time with die-hard liberals.) Start with family members -- perhaps an unemployed son or daughter or grandchild who graduated college this year. Talk to them about the stark choices in this election. Share our reports about Obama's pro-abortion extremism and his assaults on the Constitution. Remind them about his failed stimulus bill and four straight years of trillion-dollar deficits. America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama!
House Republicans Demand Answers
House Republicans are turning up the heat on the Obama Administration for the intelligence failures that led to the death of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya. Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Wood is set to testify tomorrow before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
According to ABC News, Lt. Col. Wood was the commander of a 16-member special operations security detail that had been assigned to Ambassador Stevens. The embassy had requested that Wood's team remain in Libya due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation there. But Lt. Col. Wood said the reaction from the State Department was, "You've got to do with less."
The Daily Beast reports that on the day he was killed, Ambassador Stevens sent a cable to the State Department once again warning about the growing chaos in eastern Libya. By the way, Stevens' message "makes no mention of the anti-Muslim YouTube video or planned protests at the consulate, two key pillars of the Obama administration's initial narrative on the 9/11 attacks."
Two Women & The "Tolerant" Left
The left likes to portray itself as a champion of women and minority rights. But we've been struck by the plight of two women who in recent days have dared to defy liberal orthodoxy. Rather than defend their choices or their right to free speech, the left has scorned and ridiculed them, and even threatened them with bodily harm.
Last week, reporter Lara Logan addressed Chicago's Better Government Association. You may recall that Logan was sexually assaulted by a mob that ripped off her clothes during the Arab Spring uprising in Tahrir Square.
Logan has been among the few dissenting voices warning that the Arab Spring was not going well. What she told the audience of "1,100 influentials from government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas" about radical Islam was the unvarnished truth -- something they were not used to hearing.
"I chose this subject because, one, I can't stand, that there is a major lie being propagated," Logan said. "There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years," that the Taliban have moderated and we have the upper hand in the war on terror. Logan added, "It's such nonsense!"
Logan warned the audience, "You're not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script."
On the Benghazi attack, Logan said that America should "exact revenge and let the world know that the United States will not be attacked on its own soil. That its ambassadors will not be murdered, and that the United States will not stand by and do nothing about it."
A reporter for the Chicago Sun Times labeled Logan's address "ominous," "provocative" and "frightening," adding that Logan had "stepped away" from a reporter's traditional "objective, journalistic role." One Cook County Democrat said he was "taken aback, way back," "stunned" and "disappointed" by Logan's remarks.
Really? Only liberals expect reporters to be neutral in a war with savages.
Then there is Stacey Dash, an African American actress who endorsed Mitt Romney last week in a Twitter post saying, "Vote for Romney. The only choice for your future." Predictably, the left erupted in fits of racism and rage. Dash was accused of being stupid and crazy, called an "indoor slave" and much worse, and repeatedly told to kill herself!
Increasingly, the American left is driven by hatred, intolerance and violence.
Romney to Honor Obama's Backdoor Amnesty Program, But Won't Issue New Reprieves
Romney clarified his position by stating he would honor the "deportation exemptions" given to illegal aliens under Obama's Administration, but if elected he would discontinue the backdoor amnesty and not grant any new amnesties under the program.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck announced Thursday he hopes to stop LAPD officers from honoring requests made by ICE to transfer custody of illegal aliens arrested for "low-level" crimes so that they may be deported.
Grassley, Smith Push Obama Administration for Answers on Deferred Action
Sen. Charles Grassley and Rep. Lamar Smith teamed up last week to demand answers from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano regarding the Administration's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program...

CBS reporter Lara Logan is the war-time journalist who endured a horrific ordeal in Egypt last summer when she was beaten and sexually assaulted while covering the Arab Spring in Tahrir Square. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.
