Lara Logan Lifts the Veil on Barack Obama's Failure in the War Against Islamofascism
RUSH: Lara Logan, CBS News. Do you remember two weeks ago, two Sundays ago, CBS 60 Minutes, she did a story on Afghanistan that was the same night as the Univision show, and I talked about both. This 60 Minutes piece of hers is not flattering to Obama at all. It was essentially about how we're blowing it in Afghanistan. Well, the Chicago Sun-Times, story by Laura Washington. Apparently Laura Logan went into town, made a speech last week at the Better Government Association's annual luncheon.
And it says here that she "delivered a provocative speech to about 1,100 influentials from government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. Such downtown gatherings are a regular on Chicago's networking circuit. Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, "The Longest War." It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11." That was the 60 Minutes report that she did was on.
Homeland Security has demonized patriotic Americans who want to check Obama's insane spending and over-regulation as potential domestic terrorists, while ignoring the real domestic terrorist, the literally dozens of jihadist camps on American soil training and preparing to overthrow the United States. Election Day is fast approaching and so are Voter Registration deadlines for Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania deadline is Tuesday, October 9.
The Delaware deadline is Saturday, October 13.
The New Jersey deadline is Tuesday, October 16.
If you or someone you know would like to register to vote, you can download voter registration forms for any state by visiting www.IndependenceHallTeaPartyPAC.com.
Scroll down the left sidebar of the Home Page, click on the Voter Registration button, and find your state. Forms must be filled out, downloaded, signed and postmarked by the date listed above (if residing in the tri-state region).

And the more I dug, the more I liked what I saw. For instance, both of my tech support questions were responded to within 60 minutes. How often does THAT happen?
As you know from our Patriot Partner program, we're all about encouraging a lot of people to each do a little-to do something. When everyone does a little, together we accomplish a lot.
So consider what could happen.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.

Technicians at a Buckingham computer services company have been pretty busy in recent weeks thanks to a virus that freezes the computers of unsuspecting users.
Even more disconcerting to the victims is the identity of the supposed source of the message - the FBI.
"It's pretty nasty," said Tom Earley, manager of repair operations for JunctionPC Managed Services on Route 313. "It locks down your computer completely and a warning with the FBI seal comes up on the screen."
According to Earley, the bogus FBI message informs the computer user that federal investigators are locking the computer because of illegal downloading of photos, music or other items.
The victims of what Earley said is a cleverly orchestrated scam must pay a $200 "fine" through a prepaid money card service to have their computers unlocked.

1. I Donated to Barack Obama
The President has come under fire for the shoddy verification processing his campaign does for donations.
In light of this Newsweek story about the Illegal-Donor loophole with Team ObamaA while back, among conservatives, it was even a story that he was doing this shoddy credit card verification for overseas donors.
So, after talking with some lawyers about the process, etc. I donated to Barack Obama. Sort of.
It is rare that I do something where I feel the need to talk to lawyers first. But giving money to Barack Obama was one of those times.
I didn't actually do it. I made up a name, made up a passport number, made up an address in Russia - hell I made everything up except my credit card number and expiration date.
Got that?
Everything was bull**** except the actual credit card number and expiration date. Everything.
Go try that with Target or Amazon or Apple or Mitt Romney's campaign and see what happens. Here's a hint: it'd get rejected.
When the zip code does not match, it would get rejected.
When the name on the card does not match, it will probably get rejected.
2. If The Election Were Held Today, Mitt Romney Would Win
Just under a month ago, I noted to much criticism that were the election held that day Mitt Romney would lose. The right did not like it, but it was the simple truth. At the time, Romney was flailing about badly without a coherent message. I wrote that he could turn it around, but at that time he had not.
Well, who knew Mitt Romney's October Surprise would be mopping up Denver with Barack Obama. I still haven't been able to calculate how many calories Mitt Romney consumed eating Barack Obama's lunch that day.
Nonetheless, it made a difference. What is so telling is that throughout the debate Romney hammered the most consistent message he has had since he finally found a consistent message - too many people are out of work and we can do better now, not by waiting for Barack Obama to get his act together. The commercial Romney did in the past few weeks looking into the camera, talking about our problems, resonated with swing voters. It particularly resonated with women. His debate performance solidified it.
3. Despite What Pundits Say, Romney Still Has Underdog Advantage
The past few weeks have been chalk-full of conservative pundits voicing their concerns with the Romney-Ryan campaign.

Yesterday marked the 11-year anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan, which was launched just three and a half weeks after the 9/11 attacks. Recently, U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan reached the 2,000 mark. These markers-combined with the horror of "insider attacks" by Afghan soldiers against allied fighters-beg an accounting of where we are in Afghanistan.
Within three months of the 2001 invasion, the U.S. had routed the Taliban and established an internationally backed Afghan government. But the U.S. and NATO success in the early years of the Afghan war has been diminished over the last five years. The Taliban have been able to regroup and rebound from safe havens inside Pakistan to again threaten the future of the country.
While few believe it is possible to achieve a clear-cut defeat of the Taliban at this stage, there are several things the U.S. can do to maximize the chances that Afghanistan will achieve a degree of peace and stability, even as U.S. and NATO combat troops draw down over the next two years.
Insider attacks. The most immediate challenge is to stanch the growing number of "insider attacks" that have taken nearly 52 coalition lives so far this year. The growing trend of Afghan security forces attacking their coalition partners poses the single greatest threat to the mission in Afghanistan. The U.S. strategy is centered on being able to train the Afghan forces so they can eventually face down the insurgent threat on their own.
If the number of insider attacks does not abate soon, it will be increasingly difficult not only to justify keeping combat troops in Afghanistan for two more years, but even to maintain trainers. The U.S. and NATO leadership are taking steps to deal with the situation, such as improving screening and vetting of recruits, monitoring and counterintelligence, and using "guardian angels" to protect the coalition troops.
Part of the problem has stemmed from recruiters cutting corners on vetting to meet ambitious benchmarks for increasing Afghan troop levels. There are conflicting reports about whether most of the insider attacks stem from Taliban infiltration, cultural disconnects between NATO and Afghan forces, or general war fatigue fueling indiscipline among the rank and file. Until the NATO and Afghan leadership can determine the exact cause behind the attacks, they will have little success in countering the threat.
Pakistan's safe havens. Washington must be willing to use sticks, not just carrots, to convince Pakistan to crack down on insurgent sanctuaries inside its territory. Despite America's provision of upwards of $22 billion in economic and military aid to Pakistan over the last decade, Islamabad continues to turn a blind eye-and even support in some cases-the Taliban and Haqqani Network fighting coalition forces in Afghanistan.
In a September 13 congressional hearing, Congressman Jerry Connolly (D-VA) declared the Haqqani Network "operates with impunity in certain parts of Pakistan with the absolute knowledge of the directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)," and argued the U.S. needed to "wrestle this issue to the ground if this relationship with the government of Pakistan is to proceed in any kind of healthy, normal fashion." None of the expert witnesses at the hearing, including myself, disagreed with the Congressman's assertions.
Be realistic about the Taliban. U.S. officials must not pin false hopes on an illusory reconciliation process merely to justify troop withdrawals. The Administration has pursued talks with the Taliban over the last couple of years and came close to releasing five top Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo Bay prison earlier this year as a confidence-building measure-without any commitment from the Taliban to renounce al-Qaeda or to participate in a normal political process. This would have been a disastrous and unmerited concession to the Taliban. Meanwhile, the Taliban has calculated it can simply wait out the U.S. and NATO forces and, at the same time, extract concessions from U.S. officials desperate to strike a deal.
Transition to Afghan security. As my colleague Luke Coffey recently argued, NATO must continue to focus on a gradual transition and not start rushing for the exits. Currently, the Afghans have the lead on security for more than 75 percent of the country's population, and the goal of full transition is on target for the end of 2014. NATO members and coalition partners should not use progress as an excuse to leave Afghanistan prematurely. Any withdrawal of NATO forces should be based on improved conditions on the ground and on military advice. The 2010 Lisbon Declaration stated that the "transition will be conditions-based, not calendar-driven, and will not equate to withdrawal of ISAF-troops."
While the elimination of Osama bin Laden and his top deputies over the past year and half signaled major strides against the terrorism threat emanating from South Asia, it is wrong to assume that the fight against global terrorism is over and that the U.S. can simply turn its attention away from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Documents found at bin Laden's Abbottabad compound last year demonstrated how important the war in Afghanistan is to al-Qaeda's global agenda.
Even as the U.S. draws down combat operations, it should remain closely engaged with Afghanistan financially, diplomatically, and even militarily through counterterrorism and training missions long past 2014. The challenges to stabilizing Afghanistan and ensuring it never again becomes a base for international terrorists are immense but not insurmountable.
We must continue to support those Afghans working for a better future for their country even as we wind down combat operations. As discouraging as the news can sometimes appear, U.S. officials cannot escape the reality that the security of the U.S. homeland is inextricably linked to the future of Afghanistan.

Dozens of Muslim organizations, including many connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, have successfully destroyed the career of an exemplary Army officer.
Of course, they couldn't have done it without the complicity of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey.
According to the Thomas More Law Center release below (highlights added), General Dempsey "publicly excoriated Lt. Col. (LTC) Matthew Dooley, a 1994 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a highly decorated combat veteran."
LTC Dooley's "offense" was the course he taught at the Joint Forces Staff College entitled "Islamic Radicalism." When 57 Muslim organizations objected, Gen. Dempsey fired LTC Dooley from his teaching position and ordered a negative evaluation.
This is not a unique situation. There is an ongoing purge in our national defense and law enforcement departments to remove ANY reference to Islam deemed "offensive" to the Muslim Brotherhood.
This politically correct, outrageous and dangerous purge will only end when enough Americans concerned about radical Islam make it clear we've had enough. Right now, the practical reality is the Muslim Brotherhood is dictating to national leaders what should and should not be contained in our national security training programs!
In other words, our national voice needs to be louder and stronger than the Muslim Brotherhood's voice.
It's not good enough to feel outraged. We need to work together to build that national voice, and we need your help!

Muslims Offended-Soldier's Career Destroyed-Official Army Records Show Loss to Nation

ANN ARBOR, MI - During a Pentagon press conference on May 10, 2012, General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, publicly excoriated Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Matthew Dooley, a 1994 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a highly decorated combat veteran. His reason: The course on Islamic Radicalism which LTC Dooley was teaching at the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) of the National Defense University was offensive to Muslims.
General Dempsey characterized LTC Dooley's course as "totally objectionable," and ordered all material offensive to Islam scrubbed from military professional education within the JFSC and elsewhere. But that's not all. LTC Dooley was fired from his instructor position and given an ordered negative Officer Evaluation Report (OER) - the death-knell for a military career.
The actions against LTC Dooley follow a letter to the Department of Defense dated October 19, 2011 signed by 57 Muslim organizations demanding that all training materials offensive to Islam and Muslims be purged and the trainers disciplined.
A review of LTC Dooley's OERs going back several years, including his OER as an instructor with JFSC, paint a picture of an outstanding officer with unlimited potential:

Romney Rips Obama's Weakness
Speaking at the Virginia Military Institute this morning, Governor Mitt Romney ripped into Barack Obama's weak-kneed approach to foreign policy. Romney opened up his speech by slamming Obama's appeasement of radical Islam:
"The attack on our consulate in Benghazi on September 11th, 2012 was likely the work of the same forces that attacked our homeland on September 11th, 2001. This latest assault cannot be blamed on a reprehensible video insulting Islam... No, as the Administration has finally conceded, these attacks were the deliberate work of terrorists who use violence to impose their dark ideology on others, especially women and girls; [radical Islamists] are fighting to control much of the Middle East today; and who seek to wage perpetual war on the West."
On the Middle East and Iran, Governor Romney blasted Obama for straining America's relationship with Israel and said the following:
"I know the President hopes for a safer, freer, and a more prosperous Middle East ... But hope is not a strategy. We cannot support our friends and defeat our enemies in the Middle East when our words are not backed up by deeds, when our defense spending is being arbitrarily and deeply cut, ... and the perception of our strategy is not one of partnership, but of passivity. ...
"I will put the leaders of Iran on notice that the United States and our friends and allies will prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons capability. I will not hesitate to impose new sanctions on Iran, and will tighten the sanctions we currently have. I will restore the permanent presence of aircraft carrier task forces in both the Eastern Mediterranean and the Gulf region -- and work with Israel to increase our military assistance and coordination. For the sake of peace, we must make clear to Iran through actions -- not just words -- that their nuclear pursuit will not be tolerated."
In summarizing his approach to foreign policy, Governor Romney said this:
"The first purpose of a strong military is to prevent war. ...I believe that if America does not lead, others will -- others who do not share our interests and our values -- and the world will grow darker, for our friends and for us. America's security and the cause of freedom cannot afford four more years like the last four years. ...I believe the leader of the free world has a duty, to our citizens, and to our friends everywhere, to use America's great influence -- wisely, with solemnity and without false pride, but also firmly and actively -- to shape events in ways that secure our interests, further our values, prevent conflict, and make the world better."
Obama's Foreign Fundraising Scandal
Friday we told you about a brewing Obama fundraising scandal. Today we know more thanks to an eight-month investigative report by the Government Accountability Institute. According to the report, the website Obama.com is owned by Robert Roche, a top Obama bundler who heads a "Chinese infomercial company... with ties to state-controlled banks."
Breitbart.com reports that Roche has visited the White House 19 times "despite the fact Mr. Roche's primary residence is in China." At a 2011 White House state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao, Roche was clearly a guest of honor seated "alongside Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton, Sen. John Kerry, former President Jimmy Carter, and Chinese President Hu Jintao."
Roche's Obama.com site redirects visitors to the official donation page of the Obama campaign. Once there, however, they are not required to enter the three-digit security number on the back of their credit card -- a key security feature meant to reduce fraud.
As the Washington Post noted four years ago, it is a deliberate choice by the Obama campaign not to require this additional security. As Peter Schweizer, head of the Government Accountability Institute, said, "Amazon.com uses more credit card security for online book purchases."
Moreover, according to Breitbart.com, "68 percent of all Internet traffic to Obama.com comes from foreign visitors." In addition, 43% of traffic to BarackObama.com, the campaign's main website, comes from foreign IP addresses.
As we reported Friday, the Obama campaign had a record fundraising haul last month -- more than $180 million. According to one analysis, there were more than 500,000 new donors -- people who had never given to Obama in 2008 or 2012 -- and "98% of contributions were under the reporting threshold."
During the 2010 elections, Barack Obama repeatedly, wrongly and without any evidence accused the Chamber of Commerce of using foreign money to influence U.S. elections. Every Republican should now call out Barack Obama for accepting foreign money to fund his reelection. There is far more evidence to suggest he is doing just that!
Obama picks Salam al-Marayati, Islamic supremacist defender of Hamas and Hizballah, to represent US at human rights conference
Jihad Watch has reported, What does Salam al-Marayati, know about human rights? He has blamed Israel for 9/11 and supports the jihad terrorists Hamas and Hizballah, and is one of the most arrogant of Islamic supremacists in a field crowded with contenders.
Jewish leaders expressed outrage Friday over the State Department's praise for, and defense of, a controversial Muslim leader who has defended terrorist groups and suggested that Israel may have been responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Salam al-Marayati, founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), was picked to represent the United States government at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) annual 10-day human rights conference, the Human Dimension Implementation Meetings (HDIM).
Al-Marayati's well-known anti-Israel bona fides prompted Jewish leaders and others to express outrage over the Obama administration's selection.
These were the Democrats whose immigration actions showed the most compassion for unemployed Americans. Thank them.

All of them got an A-grade on our immigration report cards over the last four years. That means every -- or almost every -- action they took on immigration was designed to reduce illegal immigration or reduce unnecessary legal immigrant worker importation during a time when 20 million Americans can't find a full-time job.

I want to say a few more words about the "8 Aces."
Their concern for protecting unemployed Americans from unfair competition from federal immigration policies apparently is not dictated by regional issues. Most regions of the country are represented in this group: Northeast, Midwest, West, Plains and South.
Unlike most Members of Congress, including the leaders of their own Party, these U.S. Representatives saw the reports that 7 million illegal aliens hold U.S. jobs and tried to do something to get them out of those jobs so that unemployed Americans could take them.
These "8 Aces" also looked at reports that 20 million Americans who want a full-time job can't find one and supported efforts to reduce the 1 million permanent work permits that our government issues each year to new immigrants.
If the majority of Congress had acted as responsibly as these eight Democrats, millions of unemployed Americans would be working today, paying taxes and using fewer government services.
At the end of a Congress in which Republican leaders of the House and Democratic leaders of the Senate did everything they could to protect illegal foreign workers and the businesses who insist on immigrant labor over American labor, this is a good time to properly thank the politicians who tried to stand up to their leaders.

It isn't hard to see the thin red line that connects the nakedly tribal appeals of the Democratic National Convention with the bloody chaos in the Middle East. Despite Occupy Wall Street's best efforts our kind of tribalism does not involve mobs and gunmen violently attacking other groups, at least not in the formal sense, just representatives of the tribes getting up on the floor of a convention hall and promising that tribal priorities will be upheld through affirmative action and other redistributive schemes that will move more members of the oppressed tribes up the political and economic ladder.
We may scoff at the absurd sectarian arrangements of Iraqi and Lebanese politics, but we have our own quotas. Like the Sunnis and Shiites we turn out in large numbers to vote for our own, at least those who claim to be our own. Race, gender and other identity tabs have become excellent predictors of voting patterns and our conventions have become tribal displays that carefully include members of all the prominent tribes. Petty matters like economics or national defense have taken a backseat to unconvincing shows of tribal unity.

The outcome of the debate between Obama and Romney had less to do with any extraordinary qualities possessed by Mitt Romney than with the purely ordinary qualities of Barack Obama. No matter how much Team Obama tried to warn the media faithful against any enthusiasm, the expectations were high and remained high until the Chicago Messiah began to speak. And then there was nothing.
Obama did not blatantly fail. He didn't forget the number of states or stand there stammering for five minutes before throwing a chair and storming off the stage. That would have been extraordinary. Instead his performance was ordinary, a bland heavily rehearsed stew of big government talking points with nothing behind them. It lacked confidence and inspired no confidence.
Romney did not come to the debate and deliver a brilliant performance. The former Massachusetts governor is not Ronald Reagan. He was just qualified and that word is more damning than any other because it highlights Obama's incompetence. His debate performance was the work of a professional politician who prepped for it, as he preps for everything.
Mitt had spent most of his life talking to people and trying to convince them of various things, religious, economic or political. His way of doing that is through methodical preparation for a presentation that convinces people of whatever he is trying to sell them on. He's not particularly charismatic, but he is qualified. And qualification means working to exceed the standards of your chosen profession.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz' (DWS) reelection campaign may be sagging under the weight of Barack Obama's slide in popularity among American Jews. The most recent poll data from Florida's 23rd Congressional District shows DWS is leading Republican Karen Harrington by 4.5% which is just inside the margin of error.
A Gravis Marketing poll conducted on October 1 and 2 (before Wednesday night's debate) found DWS receiving 44.2% to Harrington's 39.7% with a very significant 16.1% of potential voters calling themselves "undecided."
Being under 45% with a month to go is a precipitous drop in support for DWS who beat Harrington 60/39 in 2010. DSW under 45% this late with a 16.1% "undecided" might not mean Harrington wins, but it will mean DWS will have to spent money and time campaigning in her own District rather than going elsewhere to help other Democrats including Barack Obama.

The Pew Research Center Poll provides additional evidence that last week's presidential debate has shaken up the race. Before the debate, Pew had Obama leading Romney by 51%-45% among likely voters. After the debate, Pew found an extraordinary swing, with Romney now leading Obama 49%-43% among likely voters. Pew also finds interest and enthusiasm surging among GOP voters.
This swing it too good to be true, I think, but it is one more data point that shows how dramatically the race has changed.
I wanted to call out William Cohan's piece in the Post this weekend asking why Romney wasn't richer. I thought the first half was largely speculative, absent any comment from Romney's Bain peers who should be able to comment, but free of bias with one exception - it didn't seem to consider the two simplest explanations: 1) that Bill Bain funded the venture, so Romney's equity stake was as founding CEO, but not as primary equity investor as were Kravis, Forstmann and others he cites as billionaire peers; or 2) maybe Romney is not as greedy.
That would just make it a poorly researched piece written by a lazy writer who passes guessing off as informed opinion. But I was very disturbed by the conclusion as it was clear he was very anti-Romney, with nothing substantive on which to base his biases.
The conclusion left me feeling it was a hit piece. It made me question the author's motives. Reading the author bio, I thought maybe he was just anti-investment fund, someone who grew wealthy in the industry but came to loathe it and became a crusading journalist at Bloomberg. He wouldn't be the first.
But the sharpness of the criticism made me think there might be something more. So on a hunch I checked OpenSecrets.org and sure enough, a "William Cohan" of NYC who lists his profession as both writer and investor has donated $3,000 to Barack Obama's 2012 re-election.
I think this should have been disclosed by the Washington Post. (In truth I think this should have been cause for the editors to reject the piece, but I guess I'm old school on such matters.)
I wrote to the WaPo ombudsman, but heard nothing back while the Cohan piece remained prominent on the WaPo online and iPad site (the latter of which appears to only be updated once a day).
I asked the ombudsman two questions:
- Was the Post aware of Cohan's donations? - Does the Post identify supporters of active campaigns when publishing their opinion pieces critical of the opposition?
As of this afternoon, Mr. Wildermuth has received no response from the Post ombudsman.
So we've noted here before the "Hey Girl, It's Paul Ryan" Tumblr site, but now there's a full-blown Paul Ryan music video. All I can say is if you like the theory that the coolest campaign wins, Romney-Ryan are indeed heading for a landslide:
More consequences of sending the Oval Office Churchill bust back to the Brits (not to mention the style of elite education Obama absorbed at Columbia and Harvard): Obama is vindicating one of Churchill's great lines about the futility of trade protectionism. Since I'm on the road I can't lay my hands on the exact quote, but it goes something like: Thinking you can achieve prosperity through protection is like thinking you can stand in a bucket and lift yourself up by the handle. Meanwhile, I used the chart below of historic income tax rates stretching back to 1914 with my Ashland University class the other day, in part to conclude with one obvious point-the utter ridiculousness of Obama's position that ending the Bush tax cuts and returning to Clinton-era rates is the key to solving the budget deficit. To be sure, many conservatives overstate the general economic harm a return to Clinton rates might bring (the new capital gains, dividend, and Obamacare tax rates are another matter), but I think the peaks of this chart also show where the Left's real ambitions are as far as tax rates are concerned. In fact, Paul Krugman has practically wet himself looking back with nostalgia at the 1950s-era 90 percent top marginal rates.
The Democrats are trying to rebound from last week's disastrous Colorado debate by portraying Mitt Romney as a liar. The problem is that it is Barack Obama, not Romney, who plays fast and loose with the facts.
Obama's favorite attack on Romney is his claim that Romney's tax plan involves a $5 trillion tax cut. As Romney pointed out during the debate, this simply ignores the fact that Romney advocates closing loopholes and limiting deductions along with reducing marginal rates. The Democrats can't deny that, so they say that the numbers don't add up, and there will be a large tax cut, albeit not $5 trillion. In support of that claim, they have cited an analysis by Princeton economist Harvey Rosen. They have a big problem, however: Professor Rosen says he has no idea what they are talking about:

But that's not true. Princeton professor Harvey Rosen tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD in an email that the Obama campaign is misrepresenting his paper on Romney's tax plan:
I can't tell exactly how the Obama campaign reached that characterization of my work. It might be that they assume that Governor Romney wants to keep the taxes from the Affordable Care Act in place, despite the fact that the Governor has called for its complete repeal. The main conclusion of my study is that under plausible assumptions, a proposal along the lines suggested by Governor Romney can both be revenue neutral and keep the net tax burden on taxpayers with incomes above $200,000 about the same. That is, an increase in the tax burden on lower and middle income individuals is not required in order to make the overall plan revenue neutral.
That is devastating to President Obama. No doubt we will hear about his mischaracterization of Rosen's work as early as the vice-presidential debate on Thursday.
Mass Layoffs Loom: Obama Breaks Law As Taxpayers Pay
President Obama has proven he will beg, borrow, steal and just plain ignore the law in order to secure reelection next month.
After all, if you've spent nearly four years tearing down the foundations of this country, what does another 30 days or so matter when it all comes down to it?
As we've seen during the first presidential debate, Obama is not interested in being challenged on the facts of his presidency, because he knows that is a fight he cannot win; if the teleprompter isn't there to give him the mainstream media talking points, he finds it difficult to make a compelling argument for another four years. But, Obama's secret weapon is the office itself, which gives him plenty of opportunities to issue Executive Orders and rearrange the power of the government so it distracts voters from what he's really about.
His latest actions involving the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (The WARN Act) is just such a smoke and mirrors play. The WARN Act is a federal law requiring that most employers give 60 calendar days notice before they institute plant closings and mass layoffs. The point is to give workers some time to adapt to their upcoming unemployment by looking for another job, adjusting finances, or entering training for new skills. It's the right thing to do...and, it's the law.
But, that pesky law has a bad timing consequence for our sitting President. Sequestration rules under the Budget Control Act of 2011...which includes funding cuts signed by President Obama...are about to result in an estimated two million jobs being lost; but, layoffs right before an election would be politically toxic, and Obama wants to avoid angry, laid off workers who might tend to vote for Romney. So, he has therefore instructed his Office of Management and Budget to ignore the law and WAIT to send out notices.
Yes, you read that correctly; Obama has instructed them to ignore the law. He is hoping the complicit media will gloss over this news story-which for the most part, they have-and voters will be distracted by shiny, glossy items like Romney's 47% "gaffe" and the Obama's marital anniversary. Don't let them beat you into submission; raise your voice and tell them you are paying attention!
And he's not only pretending the WARN Act doesn't exist, he's going one step further and practically bribing employers with your tax dollars if they go along with his request to keep layoffs on the down-low for a month! He is offering to cover any legal or employee compensation costs resulting from ignoring the 60-day advance warning-which of course will come from you and me.
All one has to do is look at Obama's past to prove the special hypocrisy of his actions. In 2007, long before he was a failed one-term president desperately seeking reelection, Obama said, "For too long, employers have failed to notify workers that they're about to lose their jobs due to mass layoffs or plant closings even though notice is required by the WARN Act. The least employers can do when they're anticipating layoffs is to let workers know they're going to be out of a job and a paycheck with enough time to plan for their future."
In fact the Barack Obama of 2007 was not just arguing for the 60-day warning requirement; he was pushing for employers to give their employees 90 DAYS notice, instead, pushing what was known as the Forewarn Act. My, how his opinions change. The Barack Obama of late 2012 thinks it will be too much of a political nightmare to heed the WARN Act, and he is telling employers to keep quiet about the layoffs and, therefore, break the law.
This President won't take responsibility for anything and he certainly won't make a peep that could damage his chances at another four years. But aside from it being illegal, and disregarding the extra money it will cost us to sort it all out after November 6th, there is another reason to be outraged at Obama's actions: this could damage our national security.
Sequestration is going to affect many small businesses that supply and subcontract to our military industrial base. If these guys go out of business, or are unable to handle large military employers doing so, our military could suffer from the loss of training or equipment.
But Obama has proven time and again he has no affinity for the military, and he certainly isn't counting on their vote. It probably doesn't matter much to him how he gets reelected, just as long as he is given another four years in power to deconstruct the American system of government.
America needs a president who obeys the law. Obama is not above the law. Obama is not a dictator, though he is acting like one. The lengths to which this administration will go in order to retain power are frightening. What's next?
Obama and Congress need to be reminded that laws are in place for a reason, and the American people expect leaders who abide by them. If this latest action outrages you, contact Congress right now and let them know you are paying attention!
Friday's drop in the unemployment rate, to 7.8%, is real, but hold the Champagne. By another, better measure, unemployment didn't budge at all.
Were President Obama's campaign managers chanting "7.8%!" as they danced the hora around Friday morning's employment release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics?
Just a day-and-a-half after Mitt Romney declared in the first presidential debate, "We've had 43 straight months with unemployment above 8%," the unemployment rate broke that losing streak. According to the BLS report, the rate of joblessness fell to 7.8% in September from 8.1% in August. The last time unemployment was at 7.8% occurred in January 2009, the month Obama took office.
Team Obama caught blatantly lying about $5 trillion figure
During the debate, President Obama kept repeating the $5 trillion tax number despite Mitt Romney's clear denunciation of the number. The claims don't hold up, even the Obama campaign has admitted on TV it's not $5 trillion - but that's not stopping them from continuing the lie in smear ads! DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described the Medicare reforms proposed by GOP Vice-Presidential nominee and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) as "literally a death trap for seniors." White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that Ryan's reforms would "change Medicare as we know it."
But it was Obamacare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors. Obamacare cut Medicare by $716 billion over the next 10 years alone, mostly by slashing Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. And that is just a down-payment on what is to come.
