American capitalism gone with a whimper
It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.
True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.
Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.
First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.
Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.
The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

US To Take Iran Group Off Terror List

WASHINGTON (OfficialWire) - U.S. officials say the Obama administration will tell Congress that it will remove an Iranian militant group formerly allied with Saddam Hussein from the U.S. terrorism list.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will notify Congress of her intent Friday. A court had given her until Oct. 1 to make a decision.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak about the matter.

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. Dear Friend and Patriot Leader,
As you know too well, unless our friends who fear God, respect our constitution and love freedom unite now and vote in this upcoming election, we will lose the America we have known. Yet remarkably, 15-30% of self-identified Christians are not even registered to vote. If even a small percentage of those joined the fight, it could make the difference in the 2012 election. Making this happen is my highest priority, and once again I need your help.
At the Pennsylvania Pastors' Network (PPN), we have been working very aggressively with pastors across the commonwealth. We're calling on them to stand boldly at the pulpit, preach the truth, and teach the Scripture as it addresses the intersection of policy and Christian culture. At the same time, I'm encouraging them to urge their members to register to vote, and to vote biblically and constitutionally on Election Day. PPN has just embarked on a mass Christian voter registration effort, called "From Pews to Polls -An Initiative to Protect Religious Freedom in America." We want to reach into every church in Pennsylvania and enlist thousands of new voters. This is where you can help in an easy, but very big way.
First, I need your help to identify churches and pastors. If they believe in the authority of Scripture and that our rights come from God not government, we want to work with them. If you are able to make one or more recommendations of this sort, please click here to be taken directly to our website. Once there, simply supply the requested information, and if you include his or her phone number, we will personally call that pastoror church leader.
If you'd prefer to send information to a church or pastor, please feel free to forward the letter you'll find at the bottom of this email. I sent this letter last week to roughly 2000 pastors across Pennsylvania, but there are thousands and thousands more who need to know about this. As you help us find them, you help restore our foundation. We'll be able to discreetly and confidentially determine which members of each congregation are registered to vote. This information will be sent directly to the Pastoror another church member and we will assist them in the enlistment of his congregation in reclaiming a Christian founded America. It's easy, it's confidential, and may make all the difference.

As Americans, we have enjoyed the fruits of civic and religious freedom, prosperity, and abundance as promised by God to all nations that fear Him. Our Founding Fathers and clergymen cleaved to the knowledge that "blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD," and so they carefully framed our Constitutional Republic firmly atop a devout Biblical Foundation. It was a Republic secured by faith, morality and reverence. But that once secure Republic now sits vulnerable, attacked on all sides by doubt, debauchery and irreverence. So great is the threat that we are now confronted by the reality of Psalm 11:3: "If the foundations 'are being' destroyed, what shall the righteous do?"
I have never before seen an assault so aggressive against our foundation, and the question truly has become, "
what can the righteous do?" The answer is simple. The easiest thing we can do is vote! Our vote is our greatest weapon yet shockingly, vast numbers of Christians (30% in some cases) are not even registered to vote. We must turn this around if we want to maintain our freedom. It was Christians who built this great nation, and now we must stand up and save it.
For this reason, PPN has embarked on an extensive effort we're calling, "From Pews to Polls - An Initiative to Protect Religious Freedom in America." In addition to calling for dedicated personal and corporate prayer for our nation, we have initiated an effort to assist pastors and grassroots leaders in the facilitation of voter registration. We must enable Christian soldiers who understand that our freedoms come from God and that being the 'salt and the light' is most easily lived out by voting for candidates who are likely to share Biblical values. Voter registration for November 2012 must be completed by October 9th. The deadline is fast approaching. We must quickly move forward.
The next step will be up to you. We want to make it as easy as possible so we've done all the preparation and have absorbed all the cost in order to provide you the following:
- Online Voter Registration Drive Kit - This kit has everything you need to plan and implement a voter registration drive in your church. September is the month to do this, as the deadline to register is the first week of October in most states. (Church organized voter registration efforts are completely legal and appropriate.)
- Registered Voter Look-Up Service - We will confidentially identify those in your church membership who are not registered to vote and return that information to you.
- Follow-Up Email - We will send or provide a template for a personal email from you or me asking unregistered members to register online or to register at a church registration drive during the month of September.
- Early Voting Information - We will provide information and assistance in helping members of your congregation to vote by Absentee Ballot if they cannot be physically present on Election Day in November.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
 Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Are You Registered to Vote? Do You Have a Photo ID? Do They Match?

According to the U.S. Constitution all American citizens 18 years of age or older, regardless of race, color, religion, or creed, whether male or female, have the right to vote. However, voting in Pennsylvania this year will be a bit more complicated than prior years due to the new Voter ID law. A dedicated group of Main Line citizens are doing what they can to make sure that you can exercise that right on November 6th.
A small table located at Gateway Shopping Center (near Trader Joes and Great Earth Vitamins) is staffed with volunteers on weekends who will assist you by:
- Providing voter registration forms
- Helping people to complete their voter registration form
- Providing absentee ballot application forms and completion instructions
- Providing up to date information on the voter ID requirements
Additionally, if anyone has a question that the volunteer on duty is unable to answer, we will take their name, email address and/or phone number and get back to the questioner with an answer.
The table will be staffed every Friday from 3 pm to 7 pm and every Saturday & Sunday from 9 am to 7 pm now thru October 7th.
We recommend that everyone check to make sure that (1) you are still registered to vote and that (2) your voter registration name exactly matches your name on the photo ID that you plan to use on Election Day. To confirm that you are registered, go to www.can9/10/12ivote.org . Select Pennsylvania; then click on Find Voter Registration Status. Entering your personal data will allow you to confirm that you are registered and provide you with the address of your polling place.
Some may question whether citizens in our area really need help in registering to vote. When this service was provided in 2008 over 1000 people registered at the table! Volunteers assisted citizens from the 5-county Philadelphia area and Lancaster, Berks, and Lehigh Counties.
Key dates for this fall's election are:
10/9 - last day that Voter Registration forms will be accepted by Voter Services
10/30 - last day that Absentee Ballot applications will be accepted by Voter Services
11/2 - last day that completed Absentee Ballots will be accepted by Voter Services
11/6 - Election Day

NEW POLL: SMITH WITHIN MARGIN OF ERROR

PITTSBURGH - With less than seven weeks remaining until Election Day, a new poll conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research for the Pennsylvania Republican Party shows United States Senate candidate Tom Smith within the margin of error - trailing Democratic Senator Bob Casey 42% - 45%.
"It's no surprise this race has continued to tighten as voters are beginning to better understand the differences between Bob Casey, an ineffective career politician and Tom Smith, a self-made job creator," said Smith Campaign Manager Jim Conroy. "In November, voters will have a clear choice between Bob Casey's support for job-killing policies, including higher taxes, record debt and bigger government versus Tom Smith's detailed plan to reduce the debt, simplify the tax code, and grow the economy to create jobs."
"Our campaign is humbled by the outpouring of support we've received from across the Commonwealth and encouraged by the momentum we continue to see in public polling," Conroy added.
The Susquehanna survey of 800 likely voters was conducted September 15-17.

Casey lead evaporates in new internal GOP poll

The poll, conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research for the Smith campaign, has Casey drawing 45 percent and Smith, an retired Armstrong County coal executive, drawing 42 percent. The poll administrators say the three-point gap is within the poll's margin of error.
"It's no surprise this race has continued to tighten as voters are beginning to better understand the differences between Bob Casey, an ineffective career politician, and Tom Smith, a self-made job creator," Smith Campaign Manager Jim Conroy said in a news release.
However, the new poll contradicts a string of independent polls that show Casey maintaining a comfortable 15-point lead on average. And a poll released Tuesday by the Morning Call and Muhlenberg College is consistent with previous findings.
In that poll, Casey continues to lead Smith handily, 44 percent to Smith's 30 percent.
Casey campaign manager Larry Smar dismissed the validity of the Susquehanna poll and painted Smith as being out of step with Pennsylvania voters.
"While Bob Casey is standing up for middle-class families and fighting unfair foreign trade, Tea Party Tom Smith is pushing a radical agenda to dismantle Medicare, privatize Social Security and give tax breaks to the wealthy," Smar said in an email.

Why is Hillsdale teaching a course on the Progressive movement?
Americans who believe in constitutional liberty and limited government need to understand what they're up against, so Hillsdale designed this course to teach Americans the history of Progressivism and how it continues to work to ignore and dismantle the U.S. Constitution.

Start a rumor:
The radical, fringy, and racially incendiary Reverend Jeremiah Wright was actually Barack Obama's pastor and friend for two decades-oh wait, that's true!
Conservative party game:
Liberals always like to consider themselves bastions of tolerance. So push the boundaries with this little game, as personally tested with enormous success by your author. Buy your kids a pack of those realistic fake cigarettes which puff out dust at the end so it looks like your kid is really smoking. Tell them not to be too obvious about it, but next time you find yourself at a social engagement where kids mix with grown ups, get them to wander around "smoking" nonchalantly as if it's something they do all the time. For maximum impact, you could even have them come up to you and say, "Dad/Mom. You got a cigarette?" "Sure son," you can reply, retrieving a fake cigarette from a real pack and "lighting" it for them. The important thing is to make absolutely no comment and act as if this is all the most normal behavior in the world. Relish the liberals' tension and discomfort as they agonize over how best to confront you over your disgracefully lax parenting. It really is about as fun as fun gets.

Ed Koch Reverses Position, Slams Obama's "Weakness" on Muslims

At Park East Synagogue's Rosh Hashannah High Holiday service, September 17, 2012, Former Mayor Ed Koch during his annual "sermon" from the pulpit, in front of over a thousand worshippers, said "I'm distressed."
"President Obama is refusing to publicly make clear to Iran that 'If you get the bomb, we will take you out.'"
Mayor Koch previously had publicly boasted of his close ties to President Obama. Mayor Koch also said "Nobody understands what 'We have your back'" means. We shouldn't have Israel's 'back' we should have Israel's 'front'.
"As the brave Senator Inouye from Hawaii said last year, the President should say 'An attack upon Israel will be deemed an attack against the United States.':
Former Mayor Koch went on to say "President Obama is showing weakness to the Muslim world."

I secretly recorded by interview and included the audio in the video as well. The interview is 14 minutes but CNN cuts it off at Hamas-CAIR 9 minutes in. This is what CNN's Erin Burnett censored: PG: And CAIR is a Muslim Brotherhood group -- EB: That is the organization, right, Council on American-Islamic Relations, they said these are hate ads and part of a larger problem. PG: CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terrorist funding trial in our nation's history. They were named as Muslim Brotherhood. They're a Hamas group in America. Hamas is -- the first paragraph of their charter calls for the annihilation of Israel. Is CAIR ever gonna support me and support freedom? Of course not. They're not -- to me, they're not a legitimate group. To me they're a subversive group whose stated goal, according to an internal captured document in the Holy Land trial, was to eliminate and destroy Western civilization from within. So that is a compliment. Seriously. EB: OK, let me ask you about this issue about savages again, because I think that is part of the problem here. At least -- when people look at that ad -- it is a word chosen -- will you admit this? -- to make people recoil and pay attention. PG: No. EB: To poke up. To perk up and say, Look at this. PG: No, it's an accurate word. The definition of savage works, because any war on innocent civilians is savagery. Would you call those that beheaded a colleague, Daniel Pearl, savages? EB: I would call them murderers. PG: You wouldn't call them savages? I would. I would call them savages. I would call Nazis, that slaughtered millions and millions of Jews and gypsies and homosexuals, I would call them savages. So I think now it's not arbitrary: I think when you go to a dictionary and you look up what savage means, and that's the definition -- EB: Uncivilized and barbarous. PG: That's right.

Protests over an American-made anti-Islamic YouTube film, Innocence of Muslims, have spread to Europe. Muslim rioters have clashed with police in several European cities, and more demonstrations are being planned. The protests are part of widespread anger across the Muslim world about the amateur film, which ridicules Islam and depicts the Muslim Prophet Mohammed as a fraud, a madman and a sexual deviant.
Muslims in many European countries are calling on governments to outlaw the controversial film. They are also pressing elected officials to enact anti-blasphemy laws that would criminalize the criticism of Islam. As most European countries lack American-like First Amendment protections, the momentum is building for the imposition of legal curbs on free speech when such speech is perceived to be offensive to Islam.

Reacting to the murderous rioting against the U.S. throughout the Arab and Muslim world and especially in Libya (precipitated in large measure by the Obama administration's actions to defeat Qaddafi) where U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens was murdered, and in Egypt (where Obama told President Mubarak to 'go', and, his administration is supporting President Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood with billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars), President Obama, who authorized millions in aid to Libya, said on September 12th: "Since our founding the United States has been a nation that respects all faiths. We reject all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others...Already, many Libyan have joined us...and this attack will not break the bonds between the U.S. and Libya...
Obama and his administration officials have vehemently attacked the anti-Muslim video produced by a private American citizen, and yet they have conveniently ignore the fact that the Obama administration supported the people who are now expressing visceral hate for America, in spite of Obama's four-year record of appeasing Islam and Muslim countries. An example of which was obvious in the statement issued by the Embassy of Cairo: "The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims."
The Obama administration has yet to make the correlation between the killing of an American ambassador and the torching of U.S. embassies (which represent sovereign American territories) on the anniversary of September 11, and the rise to power of anti-American Islamists in Egypt and Libya, as well as elsewhere in the Arab Middle East.
Something else far more notorious has been occurring since March of last year. The Obama administration has been giving the 56-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the most powerful bloc of nations inside the U.N., a platform on which to stifle free speech in America under the guise of fighting Islamophobia.
In March of 2011, U.S. diplomats helped push for the adoption of the Human Right Council Resolution 16/18, which expresses concern about religious "stereotyping" and negative profiling. It was a modification of an OIC resolution against the "defamation of religions (ostensibly Islam), which would have protected religious institutions instead of individual freedoms. In July 2011, the Obama administration went back to Resolution 16/18 and used it as a springboard to "greatly invigorate the international effort to criminalize speech against Islam."
The April 12, 2011 Resolution provides, inter alia, that "everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief, which shall include freedom to have or adopt a religious or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or in private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching, Reaffirming the positive role that the exercise of the right to freedom of opinion and expression and the full respect for the freedom to seek, receive and impart information can play in strengthening democracy and combating religious intolerance, Deeply concerned about incidents of intolerance, discrimination and violence against persons based on their religion or belief in all regions of the world..."
Ironically, it is in the Muslim world alone where intolerance towards other religions exists, which violates both the letter and spirit of the above document, yet the Obama administration is collaborating with OIC to enforce restrictions against anti-Muslim expressions.
Back in December 2005, the heads of state and governments of the OIC held an extraordinary summit in Mecca, and adopted a "Ten Year Program of Action." An Observatory taskforce on Islamophobia was to be established to monitor Islamophobia and defamation of Islam. Its goals were to get the UN to adopt an international resolution on Islamophobia, and call on all states to enact laws to counter Islamophobia, including deterrent punishments.
The OIC's anti-defamation resolutions passed in both the United Nations Human Rights Commission and the UN General Assembly, and were adopted in December 2007 by a vote of 108 in favor to 51 against, with 25 abstentions.
The Observatory Report on Islamophobia declared that in order to have peace the OIC approved version of Islam's history must be understood, accepted, and promoted, and anything contrary is baseless Islamophobia and inciteful defamation of Islam, and responsible for the violent, destructive and punitive reaction of Muslims. Naturally, Islamic violence against the Danish cartoons was not irrational or criminal as far as the OIC is concerned.
According to the OIC, they regard the current situation (the riots against the U.S. embassies in Benghazi, Libya that killed Ambassador Stevens and the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on September 11, 2012) as justified due to the "inciteful defamation" of Islam by an American citizen.
The Observatory Report argued that Islamophobia exists in part because there is no legal instrument to combat it, therefore "a binding legal instrument must be created to fight the menace of Islamophobia.
Clare Lopez wrote on December 8, 2011 in Family Security Matters: "Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is due to host OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Washington, DC in mid-December 2011 to discuss how the United States can implement the OIC agenda to criminalize criticism of Islam. Cloaked in sanctimonious language of "Resolution 16/18," that was adopted by the UN Human Rights Council in April 2011, the Washington, DC three-day experts meeting is billed as a working session to discuss legal mechanisms to combat religious discrimination (ostensibly against Islam only). The UN human Rights Council, which includes such bastions of human rights as China, Cuba, Libya, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, introduced Resolution 16/18 to the UN General Assembly, where it was passed in March 2011."
Complying with OIC attempts to impose its agenda to impose censorship on what they regard as anti-Muslim expressions is not enough for the Obama administration it seems. Breitbart reported on July 30, 2012, that "the FBI has taken another giant step down a very dangerous path with FBI Director Robert Mueller's secret meeting with radical Islamic organizations and effectively allowing them to "edit" the FBI's training manuals.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Obama Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was filed which is seeking access to records detailing a February 8, 2012 meeting between FBI Director Robert Mueller and Muslim organizations. Judicial Watch is also investigating the FBI's subsequent controversial decision to purge the agency's training curricula of material deemed "offensive" to Muslims.
On March 7, 2012, Judicial Watch submitted FOIA requests to the FBI and the DOJ seeking access to records regarding the meeting. We're after "any and all records setting criteria or guidelines for FBI curricula on Islam or records identifying potentially offensive material within the FBI curricula on Islam," and any directives to withdraw FBI presentations and curricula on Islam."
While the mainstream media was thrilled to regale Americans with coverage of the shenanigans committed by GOP candidates for the presidency, it has done little to expose the Obama administration's flirtation with the OIC. The general support given by the Obama administration to the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt Muhammad Morsi (with whom Obama is due to meet, while refusing to meet with Israel's PM Netanyahu) reveals an administration committed to appeasing America's enemies, and abandoning America's friends. Moreover, the latest bout of anti-American riots testifies to the bankruptcy of the Obama administration charm offensive in the Muslim world.

Kansas court applies ALAC!

Kansas District Court First to Apply "American Laws for American Courts"Posted on September 11, 2012
A Kansas district court is the first to recognize the possible application of the American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) law in a case where a party sought to enforce a sharia-law based contract. ALAC was adopted in Kansas earlier this year and it is based upon the model legislation drafted by AFLC Co-Founder and Senior Counsel David Yerushalmi. The case at hand, Soleimani v. Soleimani, involves an Iranian-American couple who had been married according to both sharia and later by state law. At some point the woman divorced her husband (for cruelty and abuse) and sought to enforce a sharia-based prenuptial agreement called a mahr. The mahr required the man upon a divorce that was no fault of the woman's to pay 1,354 gold quare, which are coins valued at $500 apiece or the equivalent of $677,000.
In this case, the court held that the mahr was unenforceable for many reasons so the woman was not able to extract $677,000 from her otherwise bankrupt husband (obviously even if the woman had won, it would have been a victory on paper only).

A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL What went wrong in Benghazi? The same thing that went wrong across the Arab Spring. We made a deal with the devil and the devil took his due. The consulate was supposed to be protected by the Martyrs of the Feb. 17 Revolution Brigade, instead of the US Marines. The Feb 17 Brigade is Islamist and its leader is a member of the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood. This story is still developing, but you can see some of it up on my post at The Point, and more will come out in the days and weeks. As I wrote before, the real story of Benghazi is the story of the Arab Spring and the dirty deal that Obama cut with the Muslim Brotherhood to get the "dangerous" Islamists off our backs in return for giving in to the political "moderate" Islamists. Gaddafi made the same deal with the Brotherhood to transition the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group from Al Qaeda to the Muslim Brotherhood and that deal ended up killing him. Our deal thus far ended up killing Christopher Stevens, who probably knew all about it, not to mention two Navy SEALS and an unknown number still to come. THE FUN OF BLASPHEMY

This Issue: Napolitano's unilateral amnesty for 'Dream' illegal aliens now is amnesty for lawbreaking employers and for identity fraud
We're getting answers to some unanswered questions on DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) memo that went out in June. And the answers to those questions, not surprisingly, aren't very good.
One question addresses concerns from illegal aliens who have used fake, stolen, or borrowed Social Security numbers. Reports have indicated that some have been reluctant to apply for the temporary amnesty because the application form asks to list Social Security numbers they have used. But D HS has clarified the question by stating that applicants only need to list a Social Security number that has been issued to them by the Social Security Administration. So if they've mis-used, stolen, or lied about another Social Security number, they don't need to disclose that. They're simply instructed to write in N/A on the application.
Another concern involves the employers of illegal aliens who apply for DACA. Some illegal aliens have wanted to use their employment history to help satisfy the length of residence and time of arrival requirements, but employers have been reluctant because it implicates them in the hiring of illegal workers.
But DHS has told the employers no t to worry. According to the DACA website, "[t]his information will not be shared with ICE for civil immigration enforcement purposes..." So not only are the illegal aliens getting an amnesty, but the employers who hire them get one as well!
Finally, House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith expressed great concern over the issue of advanced parole in his questioning of Sec. Napolitano over the summer. When an illegal alien who receives deferred action also receives advanced parole, they're allowed to leave and re-enter the United States. This is a significant issue because it allows the alien to legally re-enter the United States freeing them from the 10-year bar they would face should they become eligible for a green card. Current law subjects illegal aliens who have lived in the U.S. for longer than a year to a 10-year bar before re-entering the country, but the granting of advanced parole would remove this penalty.
After dodging the question since June, DHS finally has an answer for Chairman Smith. Illegal aliens who successfully receive deferred action CAN apply for advanced parole as long as they pay the $360 application fee that goes along with it and meet the other requirements.
There you have it!
As expected, DHS will be as generous as possible in granting this temporary amnesty to upwards of 1.8 million illegal aliens. The answers to all three of the above questions is another punch in the gut for the 23 million Americans who want a full-time job but can't find one.

Barack Hussein Obama's Leftmedia sycophants declared the Romney-Ryan presidential ticket DOA this week. The talkingheads have convicted Mitt Romney for what they insist is a very offensive "political gaffe" uttered at a private campaign event back in May.
The colossal blunder in question? Romney identified the underbelly of Obama's socialist political agenda -- the fact that an ever-increasing number of "useful idiots" have been lured into subservience by generations of Socialist Democrat policies, are now dependent on a laundry list of government subsidies, and, consequently, they are very likely to vote for the candidate who will continue redistributing wealth to fund those subsidies.
Romney's offhand remarks were surreptitiously recorded by an anonymous party, then leaked by an opposition researcher named James Carter IV -- yes, he's the grandson of that Jimmy Carter -- to a hard-left magazine, which timed its release of the video as part of Obama's socialist dezinformatsia propaganda.

Fast and Furious Report Card

 Ignorance is Holder's only defenseThe report card is in for the Obama Justice Department and its "Fast and Furious" gunrunning operation, and the grade is an "F." Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his 500-page report this week, and, citing a "pattern of serious failures," it calls for 14 officials at the Justice Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to be reviewed for possible disciplinary action. Will we finally see the accountability we've been waiting for?
As our readers well know, Operation Fast and Furious resulted in thousands of American guns "walking" across the border to Mexican drug cartels under the not-so-watchful eyes of the ATF. Those guns were used to murder hundreds of Mexican citizens, as well as U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata. The report is no less harsh on Operation Wide Receiver, a similar program begun under the Bush administration, though we're not aware of a body count for Wide Receiver, which unlike Fast and Furious was run with the close cooperation of Mexican authorities. Nevertheless, Barack Obama didn't miss the opportunity to once again blame "the previous administration."
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA), who has led the investigation into the administration's ill conceived program, said the report "confirms" congressional findings that DOJ and ATF were guilty "of a near total disregard for public safety" -- but that's putting it mildly. The administration's intent was to create a pretext for further gun control, and it's beyond outrageous that their political gambit cost even a single life. In the civilian world that's called felony murder.
Unfortunately, the answer to the question we asked about accountability is that there won't be much.

Here we go again. Last week the Federal Reserve (Fed) decided to green light another round of quantitative easing; ostensibly to help the economy, but many suspect the true impetus behind the Fed's move was to create the appearance of an economy in recovery to grease the wheels for President Obama's bid for reelection.
Quantitative easing is a monetary policy that many experts believe will eventually lead to disastrous results in the form of hyperinflation. It may create the illusion of recovery in the short term, but the consequences of such action will create an economic crisis even more devastating than the one Americans have been dealing with ever since President Obama took office.
So how does quantitative easing (QE) work? We will keep it simple since it is a very complex piece of monetary policy. When Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Fed, decides to embark on QE, the Fed will buy up financial assets from commercial banks and other financial institutions using newly printed money.
You read that correctly, the Fed has decided to "assist" the economy by simply printing up new money. Any fool can see how this will likely lead to inflation. It may stimulate the economy in the short term, but the long-term prospects are disastrous.

Mitt Romney is losing the most important election of our lifetime. Don't be deceived by the polls that show him "within the margin of error." Don't put your faith in last minute media-buys from the campaign's gargantuan war chest.
Don't expect the debates to turn things around. The president may not be an electrifying speaker, but he knows how to demagogue. His message will be: I love the middle class; Mitt Romney wants tax cuts for millionaires and eats children.
And, don't count on the fact that public opinion is against Obama on almost every significant issue. (At no time since its passage has less than a majority favored repeal of Obamacare.)
The stars should be perfectly aligned for a Republican blowout this year. The economy is in the dumpster - deficits to dwarf anything we've seen in the past, the highest sustained unemployment since the Great Depression, anemic growth, huge tax hikes just around the corner, consumer prices through the ceiling - and the man responsible for it all is coasting to a second term.

Foreign Affairs: Obama Staffers May Be Linked to Colombia Prostitution Scandal, Says Fox

When news of a prostitution scandal broke ahead of President Barack Obama's visit to Columbia in April, the administration let the Secret Service--and especially the military--take the fall. Now, however, Fox News reports that an investigation may reveal the involvement of two members of President Obama's advance team.
According to Fox:
...[M]ultiple law enforcement and congressional sources tell FoxNews.com that investigators also discovered two White House advance team members checked in prostitutes as overnight guests at a Cartagena hotel in the days before President Obama's April 13 visit.
"Three U.S. delegation members that stayed at the Hilton brought prostitutes back as overnight guests. One of them was ours (Secret Service) and the other two were White House staffers," a high-ranking Secret Service official told FoxNews.com. "We knew very early that White House staffers were involved."

The New York Times Fails to Discredit True The Vote
As some of you may have noticed, TTV was given front page treatment on The New York Times this week with a piece that was underwhelming at best. Though it's apparent the story was not the takedown of our efforts that The Times was hoping for, there are some issues that have been addressed, particularly with our work in Wisconsin. Many of you stood up for the first time to help verify the petitions surrounding the Wisconsin Governor's recall. The Times was quick to quote Wisconsin officials unhappy with your work. It's interesting that no mention was made proving that Wisconsin claimed zero interest in verifying the petitions themselves. True The Vote challenges any journalist dedicated to denying voter fraud to find a public official that appreciates when they're shown to not be doing their job. In the meantime, we expect plenty more weak attempts to challenge our work together. Stay focused on the goal!

More Voter ID Developments in Pennsylvania
Shortly after a Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court decision to toss a challenge to the new voter identification law, the PA State Supreme Court decided to muddy the water again. A 4-2 ruling ordered the original Commonwealth Judge Simpson to hold a hearing that proves poor potential voters would not be disenfranchised by the new law before November. But unlike the hurdles that Texas must jump, Pennsylvania's law is in a much better position.
Pennsylvania voters have quite a menu of options to prove their identities at the polls: valid driver's license, ID cards issued by the Commonwealth and federal agencies, US Passport, student ID, employee identification and military identification. In addition, valid firearm permits, utility bills, government checks, bank statements and employment checks are acceptable. This is one of the most inclusive selections in the country. The League of Women Voters and their legal gang certainly have an uphill battle ahead of them to prove this law a bad one. Stay tuned!

It's critical that all challenges be turned over to the appropriate election boards before local deadlines. Equally important: telling the country what you did. CALIFORNIA
Voter Registration Bill, AB 145 was sent to the governor. This bill would prohibit any person, company, or other organization from agreeing to pay money or other valuable consideration on a per-affidavit basis to any person who assists another person to register to vote. A violation of these prohibitions would be a misdemeanor. This bill would provide that this notification is required when three or more affidavits submitted by the person assisting each reflects a violation of one or more of those provisions.
Vote by Mail Bill, AB 2054 was sent to the governor. This bill would allow a voter to return his or her vote by mail ballot to a precinct board at any polling place within the state. The bill would require the elections official to forward the ballot to the elections official who issued the ballot.
Voter Registration Bill, SB 35was sent to the governor. This bill would require a voter registration agency that allows a person to apply online for public service or assistance to also be able to register to vote electronically. This bill also designates the California Health Benefit Exchange as a voter registration agency.

Friday's Gallup poll showing that 60% of Americans don't trust the media got me thinking.
The reprehensible dialogue of two "reporters" caught plotting Mitt Romney's demise on open mic exemplifies the toxic media climate any Republican candidate faces, especially anyone opposing Barack Obama, the media's darling.
Here are for your review precepts of the Fifties Journalism standards which I was taught as an undergrad in the University of Illinois's School of Journalism. Perhaps, a review of what passed for journalism back then can put into perspective what Republican candidates, and especially Conservatives, must overcome to be elected now.

Since 1999, the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has demanded all nations adopt laws concerning "defamation of religion" which would subject offenders to appropriate criminal punishment for blasphemy worldwide. A well respected national polling company has reported that 1.2 million (of 5.1 million) pro- abortion women who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 have "defected" from him. This should stop the Left's "useful idiots" on the right from parroting their reports of their fake polls but unfortunately it probably won't.

5 Ways Fast & Furious Tarnishes Eric Holder's Justice Department
The Department of Justice's inspector general released a long-awaited report on the Operation Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal this week. It marked the culmination of a 19-month investigation into the operation, which allowed as many as 2,000 firearms to "walk" into Mexico, where they were handed off to drug cartels.
The operation, overseen by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, rocketed into the public eye when some of those guns were found near the body of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, killed in the line of duty near the Mexican border in Arizona.
Both congressional Republicans, who have doggedly pursued allegations of wrongdoing at the top echelons of the Justice Department, and administration officials have claimed it vindicates their varying accounts of the scandal.
While Attorney General Eric Holder is mostly exonerated of responsibility for the scandal -- the report backs up his claim that he did not know about the operation until after it ceased -- his apparent lack of knowledge is troubling in itself, as Heritage's John Malcolm, a former official in DOJ's criminal division, notes in a new report:
It is shocking to conceive that the Attorney General of the United States was not made aware of the tactics used in an operation that lasted for months and resulted in the deaths of a federal agent and ... approximately 300 Mexicans. At the very least, assuming this is true, the Attorney General was ill-served by some of his most trusted advisers, as well as by some career prosecutors in Phoenix. The report ... urges Holder to "determine whether discipline or other administrative action ... is appropriate." Some of these individuals should now be disciplined, if not fired.
The inspector general's report is nearly 500 pages long, so we've pulled out the top five revelations that you need to know:
1. The report singles out top Department of Justice officials for wrongdoing.
"We concluded that the Attorney General's Deputy Chief of Staff, the Acting Deputy Attorney General, and the leadership of the Criminal Division failed to alert the Attorney General to significant information about or flaws in those investigations," the report states.
The report faults 14 officials with various offenses, most for failing to adequately investigate the possibility that inappropriate tactics were being used. Since the report's release, acting ATF director Kenneth Melson and Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jason Weinstein have resigned.
2. The report appears to contradict sworn testimony by Attorney General Eric Holder.
"I've looked at these affidavits," Holder told Rep. Ben Quayle (R-AZ) in June, referring to documents detailing ATF wiretap applications. "There's nothing in those affidavits as I've reviewed them that indicates gunwalking was allowed."
Citing the inspector general's report, Quayle claims Holder "lied ... to my face" with that statement. The report claims those affidavits "described specific incidents that would suggest to a prosecutor who was focused on the question of investigative tactics that ATF was employing a strategy of not interdicting weapons or arresting known straw purchasers."
While the report does not claim that Holder misled Congress, it does say that those affidavits suggested gunwalking took place. Holder says he read those affidavits, and that they suggested no such thing. If the inspector general is correct, both claims cannot be true -- either Holder did not review the affidavits, or he was not truthful about their contents.
3. The report faults top Justice Department leadership with failing to adequately respond to the murder of an American border patrol agent.
On December 14, 2010, U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed in a firefight with cartel operatives near the Mexican border in Arizona. Fast and Furious firearms were found at the scene.
Top Justice Department officials, including Holder's chief of staff, Gary Grindler, failed to take proper action upon realizing the connection between the incident and ATF's gunwalking operation, the inspector general states.
Neither the [Office of the Attorney General] or [Office of the Deputy Attorney General] took appropriate action after learning that firearms found at the scene [of the Terry murder] were connected to the Operation. We believe that an aggressive response to the information was required, including prompt notification of the Attorney General and appropriate inquiry of ATF and the US Attorney's Office. However, we found that senior officials who were aware of this information, including Grindler, took no action whatsoever.
4. The White House refused to disclose any internal communications to the inspector general.
"The White House did not produce to us any internal White House communications," the report states, "noting that 'the White House is beyond the purview of the Inspector General's Office, which has jurisdiction over Department of Justice programs and personnel.'"
Inspector General Michael Horowitz was not able to investigative White House communications with ATF regarding Fast and Furious. He told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that his office "did not get internal communications from the White House, and [then-White House National Security official Kevin] O'Reilly's unwillingness to speak to us made it impossible for us to pursue that angle of the case and the question that had been raised."
5. The report fails to consider evidence that a top DOJ official knew the department misled Congress.
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), who has led the Senate side of the Fast and Furious investigation, claims that the inspector general made a "factual error" in concluding that Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, who heads the department's criminal division, was for the most part uninvolved in the crafting of a February 4, 2011, letter to Congress denying any knowledge of gunwalking tactics. DOJ later withdrew that letter when internal documents showed that officials had misled Congress about their knowledge of those tactics.
"We found that Breuer had no direct involvement in drafting, editing, or approving the Department's inaccurate February 4 letter to Sen. Grassley," the inspector general found. But internal DOJ emails reveal that Breuer did see the February letter before it was sent to Congress, and in fact personally signed off on a draft. "Great work, as usual," he wrote to one of the letter's authors.
Why this matters
Operation Fast and Furious is by far the most serious scandal to rock the Justice Department. But there are other troubling developments that have happened on Holder's watch. They include the misguided lawsuits against Texas and South Carolina over voter ID laws, an ongoing investigation of Pennsylvania's statute, and legal campaigns mounted against states attempting to secure their borders from illegal immigration.
Heritage's Hans von Spakovsky, who worked at the Justice Department as counsel to the assistant attorney general for civil rights, last year documented in an 11-part series the politicized hiring at the Department of Justice -- a liberal litmus test for all new career attorneys. It exposed the crass political agenda of Holder and his deputies. Now, the Fast and Furious report raises even more concerns about Holder's leadership and judgment.
"For veterans of the department, it is another illustration of how low the professionalism and competence of a once-great law-enforcement agency has fallen," von Spakovsky writes for National Review Online. "And it shows just how dangerous DOJ can be when its power is misused and abused.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz's 471 page report instead criticizes the ATF, senior DOJ officials, and the U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix.
This despite the fact that, as Malcolm writes, "Holder got weekly reports that mentioned the operation." Apparently, "his top assistants, 'including the Attorney General's Deputy Chief of Staff, the Acting Deputy Attorney General, and the leadership of the Criminal Division failed to alert the Attorney General to significant information about or flaws in those investigations.'"
The ill-conceived Fast and Furious aimed to identify the cartel leaders behind a firearms trafficking network. More than 2,000 high-powered weapons ending up in criminals' hands, and two of these were used to murder U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.
It is extremely unlikely that Holder's closest staffers would not relay such troubling information, Malcolm argues:

Obama Campaign Quietly Ditches Faux Flag

The Obama campaign produced a poster of an American flag, with Obama's "O" symbol replacing the field of stars, as an item of campaign merchandise, selling for $35. The image was tasteless at best. It is hard to imagine any other politician arrogant enough to remake the flag in his own image:
Barack Obama, however, has never been one to be deterred by bad taste. The larger problem was that, as many pointed out, the flag bore an uncanny resemblance to this grisly photograph taken at the American consulate in Benghazi:
So the Obama campaign has quietly ditched the flag poster, which now returns an error message if you try to buy it at the Obama store.
I can't think of an analogy to this fiasco: the Obama campaign's initial insensitivity to proper uses of the flag was bad enough, and then it was compounded by bringing to mind one of the administration's foreign policy disasters. One can only imagine the hysteria if a similar mishap had befallen George Bush's re-election campaign. And yet, our reporters assure us that it is Mitt Romney who has had a bad couple of weeks!

Annals of Islamist chutzpah

Today's New York Times features an astounding interview with Egypt's Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. Morsi is the man from the Muslim Brotherhood. Don't tell President Obama, but these people are dedicated enemies of the United States.
Morsi gave the interview to the Times in anticipation of his appearance in New York at the United Nations this week. You really have to read the interview to believe it. It could hardly be more offensive to the United States or the average American. Morsi advises us that we are to get with the Brotherhood program and be happy to pay for the privilege:
He said it was up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt, long a cornerstone of regional stability.
If Washington is asking Egypt to honor its treaty with Israel, he said, Washington should also live up to its own Camp David commitment to Palestinian self-rule. He said the United States must respect the Arab world's history and culture, even when that conflicts with Western values.
And he dismissed criticism from the White House that he did not move fast enough to condemn protesters who recently climbed over the United States Embassy wall and burned the American flag in anger over a video that mocked the Prophet Muhammad.
"We took our time" in responding to avoid an explosive backlash, he said, but then dealt "decisively" with the small, violent element among the demonstrators.
"We can never condone this kind of violence, but we need to deal with the situation wisely," he said, noting that the embassy employees were never in danger.
So no biggie that the embassy walls were breached and our flag burned.
I love this:
"If you want to judge the performance of the Egyptian people by the standards of German or Chinese or American culture, then there is no room for judgment," he said. "When the Egyptians decide something, probably it is not appropriate for the U.S. When the Americans decide something, this, of course, is not appropriate for Egypt."
We just want to judge the performance of the Egyptian people by civilized standard, buddy. And you have fallen short.
The great thing about Morsi is how up front he is. It's hard to paper this message over with diplomatic blather:
"I grew up with the Muslim Brotherhood," he said. "I learned my principles in the Muslim Brotherhood. I learned how to love my country with the Muslim Brotherhood. I learned politics with the Brotherhood. I was a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood."
In case you missed it, the Brotherhood slogan helps you get a bead on the Brotherhood: "Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations." Got it.
Over at Commentary, Jonathan Tobin comments capably on Morsi's remarks, but this is one interview that speaks loudly for itself to anyone with ears to hear.

The old Latin experession, frequently cited by Bill Buckley, has it that "Quod licet Jovi, non licet bovi." Translated literally, it means: "What is permitted to Jupiter is not permitted to bulls." More loosely, it can be translated: "What is allowed a god is not allowed a dog." The saying represents a recognition of the reality principle or a testament to the permanence of double standards.
The saying comes to mind in connection with our left-wing trolls. First and foremost among them is one Caley Bovee, who commented (sort of) several times on "Lives saved or preserved." Her initial comment on the post reads: "Shut up Scott Johnson you disgusting American hater. You don't respect other peoples religions or American values. Take your free speech and shove it up your azz." Sic, sick, sic.
A reader wrote yesterday complaining that Ms. Bovee's comment had crossed the line and asking me to talk some sense to her or ban her. I agreed, but thought it better to let her reveal herself in her gory glory than to remove the comment or ban her.
Our reader signed off with a quasi metaphysical question. Do these trolls exist, or exist as advertised under their screen names? He commented: "It's pretty obvious that the Caley persona is one of many. Brandon Qwerty, JP Mann, the other Mann teeth avatar, and Graeme McNeil..." Faithful readers, comment away.

In its early days the Obama administration avidly promoted financial incentives for the adoption of electronic health records by medical providers. According to Obama, the adoption of electronic health records would save $80 billion in health care costs. The use of electronic health records has been touted by the government (state and federal) for years. Financial incentives for the adoption of electronic health records by Medicare and Medicaid providers, however, were first funded through the administration's trillion-dollar so-called "stimulus" program, rammed through Congress in February 2009.
At the time Drs. Jerome Groopman and Pamela Hartzband (both self-advertised Obama supporters) criticized the promotion of electronic health records essentially as a crock in the pages of the Wall Street Journal. Drs. Groopman and Hartzband were on to something. Yesterday's New York Times reported that "Medicare costs rise as records turn electronic."
The Times does not observe that we haven't seen anything yet. We'll be seeing a lot more of this as Obamacare is implemented.

In two years, hundreds of thousands of American physicians and thousands of hospitals that fail to buy and install costly health-care information technologies-such as digital records for prescriptions and patient histories-will face penalties through reduced Medicare and Medicaid payments. At the same time, the government expects to pay out tens of billions of dollars in subsidies and incentives to providers who install these technology programs.
The mandate, part of the 2009 stimulus legislation, was a major goal of health-care information technology lobbyists and their allies in Congress and the White House. The lobbyists promised that these technologies would make medical administration more efficient and lower medical costs by up to $100 billion annually. Many doctors and health-care administrators are wary of such claims-a wariness based on their own experience. An extensive new study indicates that the caution is justified: The savings turn out to be chimerical.
Since 2009, almost a third of health providers, a group that ranges from small private practices to huge hospitals-have installed at least some "health IT" technology. It wasn't cheap. For a major hospital, a full suite of technology products can cost $150 million to $200 million. Implementation-linking and integrating systems, training, data entry and the like-can raise the total bill to $1 billion.
But the software-sold by hundreds of health IT firms-is generally clunky, frustrating, user-unfriendly and inefficient. For instance, a doctor looking for a patient's current medications might have to click and scroll through many different screens to find that essential information. Depending on where and when information on a patient's prescriptions were entered, the complete list of medications may only be found across five different screens.
Now, a comprehensive evaluation of the scientific literature has confirmed what many researchers suspected: The savings claimed by government agencies and vendors of health IT are little more than hype.
To conduct the study, faculty at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and its programs for assessment of technology in health-and other research centers, including in the U.S.-sifted through almost 36,000 studies of health IT. The studies included information about highly valued computerized alerts-when drugs are prescribed, for instance-to prevent drug interactions and dosage errors. From among those studies the researchers identified 31 that specifically examined the outcomes in light of the technology's cost-savings claims.
With a few isolated exceptions, the preponderance of evidence shows that the systems had not improved health or saved money. For instance, various studies found the percentage of alerts overridden by doctors-because they knew that the alerted drug interactions were in fact harmless-ranging from 50% to 97%.
The authors of "The Economics of Health Information Technology in Medication Management: A Systematic Review of Economic Evaluations" found no evidence from four to five decades of studies that health IT reduces overall health costs. Three studies examined in that McMaster review incorporated the gold standard of evidence: large randomized, controlled trials. They provide the best measure of the effects of health IT systems on total medical costs.
A study from Regenstrief, a leading health IT research center associated with the Indiana University School of Medicine, found that there were no savings, and another from the same center found a significant increase in costs of $2,200 per doctor per year. The third study measured a small and statistically questionable savings of $22 per patient each year.
In short, the most rigorous studies to date contradict the widely broadcast claims that the national investment in health IT-some $1 trillion will be spent, by our estimate-will pay off in reducing medical costs. Those studies that do claim savings rarely include the full cost of installation, training and maintenance-a large chunk of that trillion dollars-for the nation's nearly 6,000 hospitals and more than 600,000 physicians.
But by the time these health-care providers find out that the promised cost savings are an illusion, it will be too late. Having spent hundreds of millions on the technology, they won't be able to afford to throw it out like a defective toaster.
It is already common knowledge in the health-care industry that a central component of the proposed health IT system-the ability to share patients' health records among doctors, hospitals and labs-has largely failed. The industry could not agree on data standards-for instance on how to record blood pressure or list patients' problems.
Instead of demanding unified standards, the government has largely left it to the vendors, who declined to cooperate, thereby ensuring years of noncommunication and noncoordination. This likely means billions of dollars for unnecessarily repeated tests and procedures, double-dosing patients and avoidable suffering.
Why are we pushing ahead to digitize even more of the health-care system, when the technology record so far is so disappointing? So strong is the belief in health IT that skeptics and their science are not always welcome. Studies published several years ago in the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Annals of Internal Medicine reported that health IT systems evaluated by their own developers were far more likely to be judged "successful" than those assessed by independent evaluators.
Government agencies like the Office of the National Coordinator of Healthcare Information Technology (an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services) serve as health IT industry boosters. ONC routinely touts stories of the technology's alleged benefits.
We fully share the hope that health IT will achieve the promised cost and quality benefits. As applied researchers and evaluators, we actively work to realize both goals. But this will require an accurate appraisal of the technology's successes and failures, not a mixture of cheerleading and financial pressure by government agencies based on unsubstantiated promises.
The Journal's authors' tag indicates that Mr. Soumerai is professor of population medicine at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. Mr. Koppel is a professor of sociology and medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and principal investigator of its Study of Hospital Workplace Culture.

Fight back against the smearing of Rick Berg

Mitt Romney isn't the only Republican candidate in an important race who faces smears based on business dealings of a company that occurred when he had no role in its operation. In the North Dakota Senate race, Democrat Heidi Heitkamp has run an ad that attempts to hold Republican Rick Berg responsible for alleged misconduct by a residential property rental company called Goldmark Property Management, Inc. Goldmark Property Management has been the target of tenant complaints and has been cited for alleged fire safety violations.
But Berg, part of the Power Line Pick Six, does not own Goldmark Property Management; nor has he ever had a management, shareholding, invested interest, or even employment relationship with it. He did own a predecessor company, but ended that relationship in 1987 to venture into commercial real estate, rather than residential rentals.
In 1996, Berg founded Goldmark Commercial Corporation, which later became Goldmark Schlossman Commerical Real Estate Services. According to the Berg campaign, this company does not rent residential apartments, does not work with residential residents, and does not have any ownership interests, fiduciary responsibilities, or legal affiliation with Goldmark Property Management, Inc. Berg ended his ownership and management involvement with it in 2011 when he began serving in Congress.
Accordingly, Politico, hardly a pro-Berg source, has concluded that "Berg does not, as alleged by Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, have any formal legal ties to or control over Goldmark Property Management." And Politico finds laughable Heitkamp's claim that Berg's business relationships somehow is connected to his views on Social Security reform, a claim that has made "even some Democrats. . .wince."
Heitkamp's ridiculous attack smacks of understandable desperation. North Dakota is a conservative state, making Berg, a conservative congressman, the odds on favorite to win this seat for the Republicans. But Heitkamp has managed to hang in the race (the RCP average has Berg up by only 5 points) by posing as a moderate. Now, she hopes to close the remaining gap by smearing Berg in basically the same way Team Obama has smeared Romney.
This is a critical race for Republicans. Without picking up the North Dakota seat (held now by Democrat Kent Conrad), the Republicans have virtually no shot at winning control of the Senate.

Oh what the heck. I see Scott beat me to it this week. But really-can you ever have too much Winston? No, of course not. Especially during campaign season. From a 1950 WSC speech:
I am sure that class hatred and class warfare, like national revenge, are the most costly luxuries in which anyone can indulge.

The Weekly Winston: Man up edition

Now comes word that President Obama will have yet more to say about the Muhammad video, this time at the UN next week. What an embarrassment.
This pathetic cowering has already become a tiresome ploy. It's getting to be about time for Obama to do something more to show his solidarity with the Muslims rioting against the United States around the world. How about burning an American flag?
Steve hasn't weighed in with the Weekly Winston yet this week. Let me take the liberty of quoting a passage that never grows stale, but that has become especially timely - from the conclusion of Churchill's great speech of October 5, 1938 condemning the Munich Agreement:
[D]o not suppose that this is the end. This is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in the olden time.

Sessions Blasts Democrats' Irresponsibility

Senator Jeff Sessions delivered the Republicans' radio address this morning. He took the opportunity to excoriate President Obama for lying about his budget plan, and Senate Democrats for ignoring their legal duty to adopt a budget. He addressed his listeners as though Americans, preparing to vote in November, were a jury:
Hello. I'm Jeff Sessions, United States Senator from Alabama. I'm also the Ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.
Before entering politics, I was a federal prosecutor. I tried many cases and spoke to many juries. The brilliance of our legal system is that it places judgment in the hands of everyday citizens. Twelve complete strangers, from all walks of life, sit in a jury box, carefully weigh the evidence, and then reach an impartial verdict.
Our democracy works much the same. Voters hear the arguments, weigh the evidence, and then go to the ballot box and render a verdict.
As a prosecutor, I learned to trust the wisdom of these everyday citizens. I also learned, more than anything else, jurors want the facts. Today my goal is to present to you the facts as honestly and directly as I can.
Americans feel right now like the world has been turned upside down. They sacrifice to pay their bills and then watch federal workers throw lavish parties on their dime. They hear warnings of a debt crisis and yet learn that we still borrow nearly $4 billion a day. They send their tax dollars to Washington on the hope those dollars will be wisely guarded and then discover that those dollars have been lost and wasted and abused. They balance their family budgets only to find out that the United States Senate, under Democrat control, will not even bring a budget plan to the Senate floor.
The American people see the financial chaos. They know it must stop. They know their families are at risk. And that their country is in danger. Yet the President does not rally the country to action. Instead, he says our debt course is nothing to worry about. He continues to insist that his budget plan will pay down the debt.
This is the pivotal question of our time. This is a question on which our future depends. Does the President's plan pay down our debt? Or does it leave our nation on a certain path to financial disaster?
Let's review the facts.
To pay down the debt requires a surplus. Under the President's 10-year budget, there is never a surplus. The single lowest annual deficit is $543 billion. The annual deficit in the 10th year grows to $652 billion. Despite $1.8 trillion in new taxes, his budget increases our spending and debt every year, adding $11 trillion to the debt overall. Just the interest alone on our debt would exceed defense spending in seven years. These are not my numbers; they come from the tables in the President's own budget document that he printed and sent to Congress.
For the President to say his plan will pay down the debt is one of the greatest financial misrepresentations ever made to the American people.
Adding to the chaos, the Senate Democrat Majority has decided to adjourn through November having utterly failed to meet its most basic obligations. For the last three years, in a time of national crisis, Senate Democrats have deliberately violated the legal requirement to produce a budget plan. How can they ask the American people to send them one more dime in new taxes when they won't even meet their legal duty to write a financial plan and tell how that money will be spent?
They also failed to pass a single annual appropriations bill-not once, but twice-the first time a single spending bill wasn't passed in Senate history. They would not even bring up the crucial national defense authorization bill-for the first time in 50 years. And they presented no plan to prevent the huge tax hikes and steep cuts to defense known as the fiscal cliff.
All these failures create uncertainty and weaken the economy.
People should know that the Republican-led House on the other hand, met its obligations. Most significantly, it passed a budget to rescue America from a debt crisis. Compared to the President's plan, the House budget achieved $3.3 trillion in greater deficit reduction while fostering economic growth.
If given the chance, Republicans will get this government under control. A Republican Senate will pass a budget. Failure is not an option.
We believe in a better way forward. A way that brings us closer to-not further from-our heritage as a nation.
We believe in growing the economy, not the bureaucracy. We believe in helping more people live good and prosperous lives. We believe in preventing the safety net from becoming a restraint. We believe in lifting people onto the employment rolls instead of leaving them on the welfare rolls. And we believe that compassion should not be defined by much money the government spends on poverty but how many people we can help rise out of poverty.
And we believe in the good, decent, hardworking citizens of this Republic.
These are the facts. The case is in your hands. God bless you, God bless our troops, and God bless America.

Lives saved or preserved

James Taranto rounds up the stories on the apology ad (video below) that the practitioners of smart diplomacy in the United States Department of State have arranged to run on seven Pakistani networks. Despite the best efforts of our practitioners of smart diplomacy, yesterday's riots in Pakistan yielded a death toll of at least 20.
Does that mean that the $70,000 reportedly spent by the United States government to broadcast the ad was wasted? Of course not. Using the required "stimulus" analytics, the ad saved thousands of lives and prevented an equal number of deaths. It would have been much, much worse.
And that's not all! Pakistan Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Balor has told the AP that he would pay a reward of $100,000 out of his own pocket for the death of the Muhammad "filmmaker." The AP helpfully adds: "He urged the Taliban and al Qaeda to perform the 'sacred duty' of helping locate and kill the filmmaker." Why, if we hadn't run those ads, he would have offered bounties on hundreds of Americans.

Scott Brown won last night's debate, voters say

According to a poll by Kimball Political Consulting, Massachusetts voters believe that Scott Brown won his debate last night with Elizabeth Warren. 50 percent of likely voters who watched the debate said that Brown won, compared to 40 percent for Warren. Six percent thought the debate was a tie and 4 percent were undecided. The poll also found that 55 percent of likely voters watched the debate.
Kimball, it should be noted, is a Republican firm. Its most recent poll of the Brown-Warren race, from September 7-9, had Brown leading by 46-45.

The U.S. Senate's "Reid Vapid Pressure" (S-RVP) refers to the intellectual volatility of the Senate majority leader from Nevada; it measures the ratio of his IQ to ambient room temperature. I am reliably informed that the S-RVP ratio is always well below 1.0.

Mitt Romney's Taxes and Barack Obama's Record

Mitt Romney released his 2011 tax returns this afternoon, which should put an end to one of the many squirrels that Democrats have hysterically pointed to, in order to distract attention from Barack Obama's dismal record. For 2011, Romney reported $13,696,951 in income, mostly on investments. He gave $4,020,772 to charity and paid $1,935,708 in federal and state income taxes. Romney actually paid more in federal income taxes than he owed, given his charitable contributions. He did this in order to conform to his statement, made in August, that he has paid at least 13% of his income in taxes each year.
Along with the returns, the Romney campaign released a statement from Price Waterhouse Coopers, based on PWC's review of the last 20 years of the Romneys' tax returns. The PWC letter says that the Romneys have paid both federal and state income taxes each year, with an average annual effective federal tax rate of 20.20%. For the 20-year period, the total federal and state taxes owed plus charitable contributions taken as deductions represented 38.49% of the Romneys' total adjusted gross income.
So Harry Reid was lying. No surprise there. More important, from the Democrats' standpoint, is that the media arm of their campaign can spend the next day or two chewing over Mitt's tax returns rather than talking about the Obama administration's domestic and foreign policy disasters. Squirrel!
The bottom line in politics, however, is probably the same as in boxing: Obama can run-from his record, that is-but he can't hide. All the distraction in the world can't make voters forget how disappointed they are in Obama's performance. This chart, from the Senate Budget Committee, sums up just one aspect of the president's comprehensive failure. Since he took office, the total number of nonfarm jobs has declined by 1.3 million, while those claiming permanent and total disability have increased by 5.7 million and the number of Americans on food stamps has increased by 15.1 million:
Do voters really want four more years of failure? I don't think so.

Why would anyone doubt the prospects for peace in the Middle East?

Driving around this morning, I listened briefly to a Friday news roundup show on public radio (the two local sports radio stations were running ads). During these few minutes, the discussion turned to Mitt Romney's statement expressing deep pessimism about the prospects for a peace agreement in the Middle East. A female panelist, or perhaps the host, said in that smug, dismissive tone we often hear from MSM types, that Romney's statement is contrary to "40 years of Republican policy."
Put aside the question of whether pessimism is a policy, as opposed to an attitude. It seems not to have occurred to this mindless partisan that (1) if reaching an agreement in the Middle East under which two states live in peace and security has been Republican (and, indeed, Democratic) "policy" for 40 years and (2) no such agreement has been reached during all of that time, then (3) Romney's deep pessimism is probably well justified.
It's too much to expect objectivity from MSM commentators. Here, it was too much to expect the commentator even to understand how her attempted pro-Obama talking point cuts.

Reprehensible and disgusting

"Reprehensible and disgusting" was the judgment rendered by the Obama administration on the Muhammad YouTube video, but it is a judgment that more aptly applies to the Obama administration itself. The administration is a fount of falsehood and disinformation.
Jennifer Rubin usefully rounds up the whoppers served up in connection with the murder of our ambassador to Libya and three fellow Americans in Bengazhi. That this is the gang that cannot lie straight is no mitigation of the offense.
Obama himself has taken to lying in what seems to have become a habit. In his Univision interview yesterday, for example, he asserted: "I think it's important for us to understand that the Fast and Furious program was a field-initiated program begun under the previous administration." ABC's Jake Tapper does the honors on this one, reminding readers: "In actuality, the Fast and Furious program was started in October 2009, nine months into the Obama presidency."

Obama/Clinton Grovel Before Radical Islam
Obama's done another big ad buy. Not in the swing state of Iowa or Ohio, but he's using your hard-earned tax dollars to run ads in the intolerant, oppressive state of Pakistan!
In the ad, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, our former First Lady, is telling the people of Pakistan, where Jews and Christians live in constant fear, about our commitment to religious tolerance. Clinton says:
"The United States government had absolutely nothing to do with this video. We absolutely reject its content and message. America's commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation."
This is outrageous! The radical Islamists don't care about religious tolerance. And the videos clearly aren't working. The Islamists are rioting in the streets again, and more than a dozen people are reportedly dead! Why are we apologizing for their intolerance?
Can you imagine Winston Churchill apologizing to the Nazis? FDR apologizing to the Japanese? Ronald Reagan apologizing to the Soviets? This is disgusting! The Obama/Clinton apologies are not diminishing the violence. They are diminishing America.
Folks, this is really important. The more Obama and Clinton apologize for America the more they inflame the Muslim mobs. The goal of the mobs is to make illegal everywhere in the world any speech considered hostile to Islam. So the mob looks at the former First Lady and the president and says, "It's working. They are already bowing to us. Step it up!"
Obama's apologies for America must end! But they will only end if he loses this election.
Hillary's "Worthless" Briefing
The White House is in full damage control mode after its disastrous handling of the Libyan terrorist attacks. Yesterday Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was dispatched to Capitol Hill, along with top defense and intelligence officials, to provide a classified briefing to members of key Senate committees. What did they learn? Absolutely nothing.
Several senators were furious that the Obama White House had wasted their time while this crisis continues to roil the Middle East. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) said, "I learned nothing in that briefing that I hadn't seen or read in the media. They still are blaming the video and they have a fundamental misunderstanding. It's not the video; it's the Islamists..."
Senator Marco Rubio (F-FL) added, "We heard on Sunday that this was all the result of a YouTube video; now it's clear that's not the case. [The administration is] not accurately assessing what happened in Libya, and that's not helping anyone."
Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) held nothing back and opened up with both barrels, saying:
"That was the most useless, worthless briefing that I have attended in a long time. ...It was like a one-hour filibuster with absolutely not one single bit of new information being brought forth... very disappointing.
"[The briefing], if anything, built far greater distrust about what's happening than just answering questions. It was pretty unbelievable. In every event, when a serious question was asked, the answer was, 'It's under investigation.' If I were them I would not have come to the Hill..."
That's pretty much par for the course with this administration. The inspector general of the Justice Department released his report on the Fast and Furious scandal Wednesday. It identifies 14 officials for disciplinary action. Two top Justice officials resigned immediately.
During congressional testimony yesterday, Inspector General Michael Horowitz told members of Congress that he was frustrated by a lack of cooperation from the White House, which in at least one case "made it impossible" for his office to pursue a lead he "wanted to follow."
My friends, America deserves better!
Obama Redesigns The Flag
Barack Obama's arrogance is on naked display again. This time he has taken the American flag and turned it into a campaign logo by replacing the 50 stars with the "O" symbol that was so popular in 2008. Here's the new "Obama flag:"
Can you imagine any previous president daring to turn the flag into a campaign symbol honoring himself? His arrogance couldn't be more obvious! The stars represent the 50 states -- the American people. But in Obama's bizarro world, it's all about him!
Not that this should really surprise anyone. Under Obama, we've seen a dramatic expansion of federal power at the expense of the states and individual liberty. He's using Obamacare to force men and women of faith to choose between their values and their business. Obama is deciding what laws to enforce and which ones to ignore (immigration and welfare reform). Obama is even deciding what the definition of marriage is!
Before he is finished, we won't recognize our country or our flag.
Did Chick-fil-A Cave?
The media has been gleefully reporting that Chick-fil-A caved in to pressure from left-wing politicians and homosexual rights groups and will no longer make donations to "anti-gay" groups like Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. This is a perfect example of how the left distorts the news.
Chick-fil-A has never donated to the National Organization for Marriage. It has supported pro-marriage efforts through its own foundation. In a statement yesterday, the company reiterated its commitment to "programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages." You can read this Citizenlink report for more information.
