Not only is Barack Obama violating his pledge not to campaign on 9/11, but he is also using the day to issue greetings to the Arab Forum on Asset Recovery, seemingly oblivious to the importance and solemnity of the day, as well as the context of his message.

Obama offers thanks to the Emir of Qatar--showboating some rather halting Arabic skills in addressing "His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani"--and praising the inspiring democratic example of the Arab Spring, which happened to leave the absolute monarchy of Qatar untouched.

He also offers support for his envoys, including Attorney General Eric Holder, who is attending the Arab Forum conference as the chief U.S. representative. The Arab Forum's goal is to recover assets stolen by formerly autocratic regimes, including Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya. (But not Qatar.)

The video, posted on the White House YouTube channel today, makes no mention of 9/11, the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, or the role of Qatar-based Al Jazeera in broadcasting radical anti-American propaganda. And while offering support for democratic change, Obama neglects to ask the Emir to step aside.

Ironically, Obama caused a scandal last year when CBS News caught him criticizing the Emir of Qatar after reporters had left a fundraiser in Chicago: "He is a big booster, a big promoter of democracy all throughout the Middle East...He himself is not reforming significantly. There is no big move towards democracy in Qatar."

Obama has evidently chosen to make up for the insult--by insulting fellow Americans on 9/11.

Just as the Morning Briefing was going out, I learned the United States Ambassador to Libya has been killed according to Reuters and other news services. The violence in Benghazi is chaotic right now, but a Libyan official claims the Ambassador and three other Embassy staffers have been killed.

I couldn't recall the Briefing to update it, but I wanted to let you know as soon as I learned.  Here is the latest information from Reuters.  Our prayers are with the families of the victims.

A new app called "In Obama's own words" is great.  Right now it is only for the iPhone.  If you are wanting for someone to hear something Obama said that really is awful for our country, and he has said a lot, this app is what you need on your iPhone.  It is only $.99.  It is well worth it.  It is him talking and saying these things that other people can hear when you press the play button.  Pass this information on.  The guy who made this is had so many requests to make it for other popular cell phones now.  He is just a great patriot who is a great computer nerd and did this after hundreds of hours of work on it.

Dear Members and Friends,

On this 911 Anniversary date, we pray for all the victims of the abominable terrorist attacks--and the loved ones they left behind.

We also pray for all Americans as one of the most important elections in our nation's history draws near.

We pray for Governor Mitt Romney, Congressman Paul Ryan, and our other endorsed candidates as they head into the final stretch of the 2012 campaign.

We pray our movement will use our resources--time, energy, money--as effectively as possible in the next few months to win the White House and gain control of both houses of Congress.

In that vein, we humbly suggest that no matter what issue you're asked to rally for--that you hold-off on taking road trips to Harrisburg and/or DC, etc., until after the November election.   

The only issue we should be focusing so much time and energy on is defeating Barack Obama!

If a rally's purpose does not have that goal in mind--please don't waste the time.  Instead, volunteer at a Victory Office or a local Congressional office.  (An office near you can be found @ www.IndependenceHallTeaPartyPAC.com.)

The most effective thing we can do in the present is to use our precious resources for

Get Out the Vote efforts.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't call, fax, or email Governors and/or other elected officials regarding important governmental matters.  It just means we don't have the luxury of taking 12 hour trips that won't remove Barack Obama from the White House.

Take healthcare, for example.  In Pennsylvania, Rep. Matt Baker's opt out of Obamacare bill, HB 42, has been voted out of committee, but languishes before the full House and the Senate.

If you live in PA, we ask that you call Governor Corbett, House Majority Leader, Mike Turzai, and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi.  Ask them to Enact HB 42

and stop the establishment of Obamacare Health Exchanges in PA.

  The "Let's Do Better" bus tour will visit with seniors in their communities to discuss their reaction to the controversial health reform care bill passed in 2010. This legislation, which remains unpopular with seniors, cuts Medicare, cripples Medicare Advantage, establishes a "Medicare IRS", and generally provides for a bureaucratic takeover of important health care decisions - all unpopular with seniors.

The tour is a project of the 60 Plus Association.

Events surrounding the tour will include rallies, health care briefings, meet & greets, and townhall meetings. It will also feature health care experts and advocates, as well as the 60 Plus leadership team of Jim Martin, Amy Frederick, and legendary entertainer Pat Boone - who is the national spokesperson for the seniors group.

60 Plus, founded more than 20 years ago and currently supported by some 7.2 million "senior activists", is often referred to as the conservative alternative to the AARP. Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani Freed!

According to the American Center for Law and Justice, Pastor Youcef Nardarkhani has been released from prison!

After languishing in prison for almost three years, under the threat of execution for his faith, Pastor Youcef appeared before the court this past Saturday morning for the charges brought against him. His hearing lasted almost six hours. But in the end, he was released and able to return home to his family.

Some of our sources close to the case report that the court acquitted him of apostasy, but charged and convicted him of evangelizing to Muslims. According to these same sources, the court sentenced Pastor Youcef to three years in prison and granted him time served, which means his prison sentence already has been completed.

TAKE ACTION

1. Take time today to thank God for answering prayers for Pastor Youcef's freedom and ask for His continued hand of safety over Pastor Youcef and his family.

2. Send an email to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Ask her to offer asylum to Pastor Nadarkhani and his family in the United States.

One year after its release, the Obama administration's counterterrorism strategy remains flawed.

This strategy seeks to treat terrorism under (1) a law enforcement paradigm that failed to protect Americans from terrorism when it was adopted by the Clinton Administration before 9/11 and (2) a "small footprint" policy for overseas operations.

Today, as we remember the September 11 terrorist attacks, the administration must refocus its efforts in order to keep the homeland secure.

As Heritage Foundation experts Michaela Bendikova, Lisa Curtis and Jessica Zuckerman explain, "The U.S. needs to name its enemies, maintain the nation's commitments abroad, fully fund the military, reach out to allies, and truly defend the home front."

Part of the problem, they argue, lies in diminished defense budgets:

If Congress does not act, on January 2, 2013, across-the-board cuts will go into place. For the defense budget, this means additional half-trillion-dollar cuts on top of the large defense reductions that have already taken place. The Department of Defense has absorbed a $400 billion cut (called "efficiencies") under former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Current Secretary Leon Panetta has had to cut over $400 billion pursuant to the Budget Control Act of 2011.

 

The defense budget has already absorbed about half of all spending cuts even though it represents less than a fifth of the federal budget. If the Obama Administration continues to weaken U.S. forces, the country will be unable to maintain its superpower status.

Without a well-funded defense, our country will not be able to keep up with our enemies' adaptations and changes in strategy. And we must have a sustainable counterterrorism system that can respond decisively and quickly to any threats to our citizens.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

1. Violent mobs assault U.S. Embassies in Egypt and Libya on 9-11

While America observed the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. embassies in Cairo, Egypt and Benghazi, Libya were stormed by Islamists angry at a film that is reportedly insulting to Mohammed. The Cairo incident, in which Islamists climbed the embassy walls, tore down and shredded the American flag, and tried to raise an al Qaeda flag in its place, has received the lion's share of the media attention afforded these attacks. However, the more violent incident may be in Libya - which, of course, received American military support last year in its effort to overthrow a brutal dictator. The U.S. embassy in Benghazi was attacked by Islamist militants with RPGs, machine guns, and grenades, and according to reports, clashes between Ansar al-Sharia and U.S. embassy security forces taking place before "Libyan security forces...withdrew as they came under heavy fire." One American has been reported killed so far, with "a number hav[ing] been injured in the clashes."

2. The President and the Arab Fall

Oh if only Islamic radicals would riot over the HHS contraception mandate and gay marriage. If they did, the Administration would fall all over themselves to apologize.

Don't believe me? Consider yesterday's events well chronicled by Jeff Emanuel.

A group in the United States exercised their first amendment rights, which set off rioting yet again among the religion of peace. Egyptians stormed the American Embassy, torn down the American flag, burned it, and replaced it with a black flag used by Al Qaeda. In Libya, our consulate was attacked and an Embassy employee killed. Initial reporters were that the employee was American, but overnight media outlets were backing away from that as a fact.

The Obama Administration's Egyptian Embassy responded by apologizing that someone somewhere exercised their first amendment rights and dared offend the religion of peace. In fact, the Embassy wants it known that no religion should ever ben offended ever. So you Christians who think Jesus is the only path to Heaven, don't say it. It might offend someone.

I guess now Barack Obama will abandon calls for gay marriage and Democrats everywhere will stop calling Christians "bigots" for standing up for their religion. After all, it appears now to be American policy to apologize for offending religious sensibilities.

3. Obama Does Radio Interview on 9-11. No Mention of 9-11.

The headline speaks for itself. I tried hard not to get political today, but sometimes you have to call out insensitivity when you see it.

It started with Joe Biden's reference to Flight 93 as a "bittersweet" memory (though some are giving him the benefit of the doubt on that one) and then it was The Onion joking about 9-11 on their site and twitter feed.

Now it's learned that President Obama appeared on the DJ Laz Morning Show in Miami, FL and, although it was his first opportunity to speak publicly on the anniversary of 9-11, he spoke of the Miami Dolphins, he spoke of College Loan reform, he spoke of his campaign, but he left out the day that changed America forever.

4. The Definition of Stupid: Another Legislative Surrender

Get ready for another weak ground out into a double play in the upcoming budget battle.

Shortly before the August recess, we reported that Republicans planned to pass a clean 6-month CR which funds Obamacare and appropriates $1.047 trillion in spending - commensurate with Obama's request instead of the House budget. The idea behind the "deferment" strategy was twofold; to delay the major battles to 2013 in the hopes of winning back the Senate and to preclude the need for the lame duck session, when wayward members would use the must-pass budget bill to pass extraneous bad legislation.

Pick a fight with a liberal on:  

SOCIAL STIGMA.
Liberals are forever congratulating themselves on having all but eliminated the "stifling" codes of disapproval by which the pre-1960s generations dictated socially acceptable norms. But "stigma" was good. While stigma existed, poor people were too proud to beg or rely on welfare; girls were too ashamed to be thought "loose" or to seek single motherhood as a lifestyle choice; men were more chivalrous because there was a stigma against treating women without deference and special consideration; and people were more polite and even dressed properly as a sign of respect for others and themselves. "Stigma" was the means by which free citizens could agree on a mutually satisfactory code of behavior, without the agents of the state having to poke their noses into anyone's private business. Liberals, however, utterly reverse the equation-they're all for obliterating taboos, knocking down stigmas, shocking the middle class, and preaching tolerance for the most anti-social behavior; and then they turn around and act as the biggest advocates of the government dictating private behavior with the nanny state. The consequences? Greater government intrusion; much worse behavior.

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is to be the subject of what producers on Monday called a "provocative" documentary directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Errol Morris, producers said on Monday.
Morris has teamed with the media company behind global warming film "An Inconvenient Truth" for the film, called "The Unknown Known: The Life and Times of Donald Rumsfeld," to be released in 2013.

The documentary will be drawn from filmed interviews Morris conducted with Rumsfeld as well as never-before-seen material from Rumsfeld's private archive, the executive producers said.

First, let's understand the issue.

In 1907 Congress prohibited corporations from contributing to the campaigns of candidates for Federal office. But the subject of Citizens United was whether a 2002 act of Congress could declare a nonprofit advocacy corporation's airing of a film critical of a candidate (Hillary Clinton) within 30 days of a primary or 60 days of a general election to be a felony.

Or watch a movie about the Founding era. 1776 is a family-friendly choice, while the HBO miniseries, John Adams, is a more sophisticated portrayal of the Founding era.

Or learn the Constitution at your own pace with The Heritage Guide to the Constitution: Teaching Companion. 4. Learn about the Framers. Heritage's Founders' Almanac has short bios and quotes some of the key Founders. Guess who was President of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia? 6. Share what you know about the Constitution. Post a blog on the true meaning of the Commerce Clause. Show some love for the Tenth Amendment on Twitter. Like the Legislative Vesting Clause on Facebook. Social media isn't the only avenue. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the importance of the Constitution. 7. Spread the word in your local community. Why should Independence Day have a monopoly on patriotic cookouts? Start a new tradition and host a Constitution Day party for your friends and neighbors. 8. Arm yourself with facts on key issues. Make use of Heritage resources to stay informed on the critical issues facing America: from foreign policy and the welfare state to health care and the rule of law.  

9. Shore up the American Dream. Our Constitution makes the American Dream possible. Save the Dream and fight for economic freedom by resisting the vast expanse (and expense) of the bureaucratic state.  

10. Commit to a constitutional agenda. America is at a turning point: Either our leaders will guide the country even further along the road to "progressivism" or they will begin a long, slow turn back toward the principles of the American Founding. Changing America's Course is Heritage's advice for how our political leaders can restore constitutional government.

 9/11: A Clinton Legacy

Former President Bill Clinton is campaigning on the 11th anniversary of 9/11, hitting the stump for President Barack Obama's re-election effort in swing states, despite the fact that both campaigns are supposedly taking the day off. That is typical Obama--take the high ground while others do the dirty work. Meanwhile, the New York Times renews its attack on Obama's predecessor for "negligence" in ignoring warnings about the attacks.

It seems only fair, then, to remind the American public that not only does Obama skip most of his daily intelligence briefings, but also that the Clinton administration bears some of the blame for allowing 9/11 to happen. The 9/11 commission identified several Clinton failures, including four missed chances to kill Osama bin Laden, and a failure to adopt "a more aggressive counterterrorism posture" after Al Qaeda's initial attacks.
