The Silence of the Pulpits

If you are even slightly awake about the world news today, it is no surprise that Christians are being killed, raped and brutalized throughout the Islamic world. However, there is a place where you can go and escape the dreadful and relentless details of Christian annihilation by Islam. You can just go to church. For example, this week in Nigeria Christians were killed. Nothing out of the ordinary, indeed in the world of Christian persecution, this is routine.

And so the response to the murder of Christians is found in nearly every church is ...wait for it..., complete silence-not a mention or reference to it or the brutality against Christians that happens almost every day in the Islamic world. This is not a passive silence, because if you try to change it, you will fail. The silence is an active, working conspiracy that goes throughout nearly all of Christendom.

Take a simple example: prayer for the persecuted. From a Christian perspective, this falls under the heading of obvious. Try taking the idea of prayer for the routinely murdered Christians in Nigeria or Egypt to ministers, boards and any part of the structure of the church and see how far you will get. You will get rejection with a myriad of lame and evasive excuses, since they fear to recognize the suffering of Christians around the world. If you acknowledge the suffering, you might ask the question: why are these Christians suffering? Ah, there is the rub. The suffering is caused by Muslim jihadists who are following the Islamic doctrine of jihad against the Christian as found in Koran, Sira and Hadith. Islam is the cause of suffering of Christians, as well as Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and atheists.

The floor of the Democratic National Convention erupted Wednesday over a sudden move to restore to the platform a reference to "God" and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital -- after heavy criticism from Republicans for initially omitting them.

Democrats, though, were hardly in agreement over the reversal.

A large and loud group of delegates shouted "no" as convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, called for the vote late Wednesday afternoon. Villaraigosa had to call for the vote three times before ruling that the "ayes" had it. Many in the crowd booed after he determined the language would be restored.

Kicks Off Nationwide With Release Of Documentary Short Film Titled "Dishonorable Disclosures"

Former CIA and Special Operations members are announcing the creation of OPSEC, a new nationwide public campaign to combat the spike in leaks and politicization of Intelligence and Special Operations missions that threaten their effectiveness and the safety of Americans who conduct them. OPSEC - short for Operational Security, meaning to eliminate or reduce the exploitation of critical information - will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a new documentary short film highlighting the problem from the perspective of those who have served in these critical positions. The film will also serve as the basis for a TV and online advertising effort.

"Intelligence and Special Operations members are angry and frustrated at how our work has been used for political advantage by officials across government, including President Obama himself who bears special responsibility as Commander in Chief," said Scott Taylor, chairman of OPSEC and a former Navy SEAL. "We want the American people to understand the cost of these leaks and politicization both on those who serve and on our national security and to hold those in positions of leadership accountable if it doesn't stop."

OPSEC is made up of individuals who served their country in the CIA, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) consisting of Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations. It is organized as a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan public education campaign and is independent of any political party or campaign organization.

The campaign will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a documentary short film that views the impact of the increasing number of leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions, tradecraft, tactics and capabilities from the perspective of those who have relied on these tools to carryout similar missions and protect themselves and those they served alongside. The film will be shown at events in key states across the country over the next several months, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada. The Tampa Convention was a resounding success not only for the Republican Party but also for the pro-family pro-life movement. Here are some of the reasons why:

TREASURE LIFE CONVENTION EVENT

The Tampa version of RNC for Life's traditional pro-life celebration was a standing-room-only event which took place Tuesday just prior to the Convention's delayed first session. Themed "Treasure Life," our event honored four pro-life heroes: Gov. Rick Perry, Sen. Rick Santorum, Congressman Louie Gohmert (TX) and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN). Several other Congressmen attended, including Dr. Michael Burgess (TX), Randy Forbes (VA), and Chris Smith (NJ). This year, RNC for Life partnered with Family Research Council Action and Florida Family Action to produce an outstanding event at the fabulous Florida Aquarium. We were thrilled with the large and enthusiastic attendance and we also got to celebrate Phyllis' birthday a week late but with great zeal.

PLATFORM

The 2012 platform as crafted by the Platform Committee was simply awesome. Several solid conservative platform Committee members worked in concert to produce a document that will really showcase the differences between the Democrat platform and our Republican one. Phyllis Schlafly, who was attending her 16^th National Convention, is no slouch when it comes to analyzing platforms, and she reports that this one is probably the best platform ever for the GOP in her five decades as a conservative activist.  It's built upon the three-legged stool that Ronald Reagan pioneered: social issues, fiscal issues and national sovereignty. It was very exciting to hear our nominee, Mitt Romney, promise to protect both the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage in his acceptance speech. What a stark contrast to President Obama who not only is the most pro-abortion president in our history but who also now espouses (pardon the pun!) homosexual marriage and refuses to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), calling it unconstitutional! There is no question that the Romney-Ryan ticket will be a huge improvement on the Obama-Biden administration. So we pro-life advocates must roll up our sleeves and get ready to work hard for America's "Comeback Team" starting NOW. If your state is a safe red state (such as Texas), there soon will be information available on how to help in critical swing states, such as Ohio, Virginia, Florida, etc. Many of those swing states also have close and important U.S. Senate races. Remember, we need to take at least 4-6 U.S. Senate seats to obtain a pro-life majority in the Senate. So we can help elect both a pro-life president and a pro-life senator in some states! We will keep you posted as that information becomes available so that we can all do our part - and then some! - to take back our country.

  RULES

The controversy over the proposed Rules changes actually was settled in a way that reflects a victory for grassroots and the right of states to select their national delegates as they choose. Yet there is so much misinformation going around the internet concerning those recently adopted rules. Originally, the rules changes as presented were undesirable and several states were prepared to present a Minority Report to keep two especially troublesome rules from being enacted. Thanks to many phone calls and emails from concerned grassroots Republicans like you, our concerns were addressed during the subsequent Rules Committee meeting which was held prior to the Rules actually being presented to the convention for approval. And in that committee meeting, we grassroots won a great victory! First, the onerous language which would have negated the way that states select their delegates and which would have given a presumptive nominee the ability to "disavow" a delegate(s) was REMOVED. Additionally, the rule which allowed the RNC to change rules between conventions was significantly modified so that any change would need to have 3/4 rather than only a 2/3 majority of the RNC members to pass any change.You can read a report on the rules changes with more details and somewhat different conclusions from the revered and long-time Virginia Platform delegate Morton Blackwell by clicking here. Morton's advice to concentrate now on winning our November election is excellent and we urge all pro-life, constitutional conservatives to follow that advice! To read the entire new set of rules go here.    Now as to the manner in which the Rules (and other committee reports) were handled on the floor, it was heavy-handed and not a good way to handle approval of those reports. For one thing, there was no way to have an accurate voice vote as alternates and guests could (and did) yell either "Aye" or "Nay," rather than just the delegates voting and being heard. Additionally, many - if not most - delegates likely were unaware that there would not be a minority report offered since the offending language had been removed or improved in the last Rules Committee meeting. This confusion certainly could have been better handled by the convention chairman and would have made the issue which so divided the convention much less of a problem.

UNITY

And if there is one thing we need now, it's unity to take Obama out of office NOT a continued discussion about the procedures which were flawed but which produced for the most part the desired results in the case of the rules. Let's celebrate the most conservative platform ever for our party! Voters who care about issues rather than personalities will compare our constitutionally-based platform with the socialism-promoting platform of the Democrats, and will see a very clear difference in the two statements in all three of Reagan's three-legged stool principles: social, fiscal and national security issues. So let's get past the intra-party squabbles and get on with making Obama a one-term president!

"The objective of this first-of-its-kind workshop is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns," SION said in a statement. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions, as epitomized in March 2012 by the New York Times' running of an anti-Catholic smear ad and rejection of a SION ad telling the truth about Islamic jihad.

It said the workshop will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims, which it added still occur from time to time.

Freedom fighters from all over the globe, journalists, intellectuals and academicians will be among the participants in the workshop, which will consist of brainstorming sessions to develop mechanisms for cooperation with external partners, and to develop an action plan to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.

The organization noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.

Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.

This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.

"We are holding this Congress on the eleventh anniversary of the day jihad came to America in order to strike a blow for freedom," Geller said.

Sandy Slater, a member of Citizens for Constitutional Government, is also the President of the Bucks County Pro-Life Coalition. Her group will have a table outside of the Polish-American Festival & County Fair that is held on the grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa. This is on 654 Ferry Rd. In Doylestown. Sandy's group will be selling roses for donations to Crisis Pregnancy Care Centers which offer alternative options to abortion.  

Along with selling roses to people coming and going to the Festival, there will be a couple of well constructed pieces of literature to distribute pertaining to 1st Amendment Religious Rights and where the Presidential Candidates stand on this issue.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

In addition to Alan West, the CREDO SuperPAC is targeting 10 GOP congressional leaders in their new program titled TAKE DOWN THE TEA PARTY TEN. Their stated objective is "...to hold the worst congressional extremists accountable for their radical attacks on women, science, and equality.  On CREDO Action website, the 11 TEA PARTY targets are defined as having "...voted to redefine rape, to gut the Clean Air Act, to reject the science of climate change, to let women die, and to abolish Medicare." They continue by declaring these 11 representatives as being "...some of the most odious members of the most extreme Congress in history." They refer to Michele Bachmann as "Queen of Crazy" and Alan West as "Beyond Crazy" on the website listing all 11 targets at:

On a different note, I think Bill Clinton gave a good speech last night that was typically Clinton - long, meandering, undisciplined, very funny, and made you like him even if you don't.  While much of the press was fawning over it, and I totally see why and why so many people miss Clinton compared to Obama, there was just one moment where I think Bill Clinton did irreparable harm to Barack Obama's re-election chances.  It was such a short moment, most of the media ignored it.  But this is the moment that is going to live on to hurt Barack Obama.  It was this one.

1. The Alternative Universe and the Media Feedback Loop

Yesterday in Charlotte the Democratic National Convention began as amateurishly as President Obama's first term has been. Three times Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles tried to get a majority of Democratic delegates to agree to add God and Jerusalem back into the Democratic Platform. Three times he failed. But on the third time, he declared he heard a two-thirds vote for changing the platform. Debbie Wasserman Schultz lied again saying there was no fight and called it a "technical change", but the Democratic delegates booed putting God and his holy city back into the Democratic Platform.

If booing God and his holy city is the universe, I'll take the alternative universe Bill Clinton said the GOP lives in. That is why Barack Obama stands a good chance of losing. it is the Democrats who have disconnected from America.

3. Obama's NLRB Gets Smacked Down: District Court Rules Arizona's Secret-Ballot Amendment Is Constitutional

You may recall back in 2010, when Barack Obama's union-appointees at the National Labor Relations Board began showing their true union colors, voters in Arizona, South Carolina, South Dakota and Utah passed secret-ballot amendments to their state constitutions as a preemptive measure to thwart the Obama Administration's (and unions') efforts to pass legislation calling for unionization without elections.

4. No, President Obama Didn't Find Osama bin Laden

With few other unquestionably popular accomplishments for this president to crow about, we should expect to hear a lot at the Democratic Convention the next two days about how President Obama authorized a Navy SEAL team to kill Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Vice President Biden, who opposed the mission, has made it a favorite stump speech line: "Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive."

But signing off on killing bin Laden was a no-brainer; as anyone who remembers the past decade knows, the hard part was finding him. The Abbottabad raid was the culmination of many years of intelligence-gathering. And for all the chest-thumping by Obama and Biden, virtually none of that intelligence-gathering resulted from policy decisions that originated with the Obama Administration. To the contrary, several were harshly criticized by Obama and his allies, and some have been discontinued by Obama.

Jerusalem Fight Underscores the "Israel Gap"
in this Election

Washington, D.C. (September 5, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition notes with grave concern that delegates to the Democratic National Convention voiced significant opposition to efforts to amend the party platform so as to reinstate pro-Israel language from previous years.

Rank and file Democrats expressed strong opposition to a resolution to reinstate pro-Israel language that had been removed from the 2012 platform, forcing convention chairman Antonio Villaraigosa to call the voice vote three times. Each time the "No's" were noticeably stronger; in fact, CNN reporter Dana Bush was quoted as saying, "It seemed pretty to clear to me that the 'No's' had it." (1) 

There were loud boos from the convention floor when the chairman overruled the delegates and announced that the resolution passed.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "This is a very sad day. To hear delegates on the floor of the Democratic convention strongly voice their opposition to recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, then boo when the chairman passes the resolution to adopt that language, is a shock.

Brooks continued, "This unfortunate incident highlights the split among rank and file Democrats when it comes to the critical issue of Israel, something we've seen for some time. Gallup polling has shown that Republicans have been consistently more likely to support Israel than Democrats for over a decade. (2) It is painful to see that demonstrated so clearly in this national forum."

We feel that the following Members of Congress are at the top tier when it comes to consistently stepping up to the plate in the fight against radical Islam in the United States. Here's why:

Congressman Peter King (NY-3) - As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Congressman King has a history of being active in the fight against radical Islam, but particularly during the 112^th Congress. Over the last two years, Chairman King has held five hearings on various aspects of Islamic radicalization. The 'Two Jerusalems' Myth

Palestinians have nurtured a myth that historically there were two Jerusalems - an Arab 'East Jerusalem' and a Jewish 'West Jerusalem.'

Jerusalem was never an Arab city; Jews have held a majority in Jerusalem since 1870, and 'east-west' is a geographic, not political designation. It is no different than claiming the Eastern shore of Maryland should be a separate political entity from the rest of the state.

With an overall population of nearly 800,000 today, separating East Jerusalem and West Jerusalem is as viable and acceptable as the notion of splitting Berlin into two cities again, or separating East Harlem from the rest of Manhattan.

Arab claims to Jerusalem, a Jewish city by all definitions, reflect the "what's-mine-is-mine, what's-yours-is-mine" mentality underlying Palestinian concepts of how to end the Arab-Israeli conflict. That concept is also expressed in the demand for the 'Right of Return,' not just in Jerusalem - Israel's capital, but 'inside the Green Line' as well.

Whither Goest Thou, America?

"Whither goest thou, America, in thy shiny car in the night?" Jack Kerouac asked in On the Road That was the Fifties. That shiny car is pretty beat up these days. It's supposed to get 100 miles to the gallon, so long as the temperature never drops below 75 and the gasoline has additives like the joy of children and the smiles of unicorns. And you can't buy the car because you can't get approved for that loan. Instead you ride a bicycle, pedaling furiously, dodging trucks delivering goods from factories in Shanghai, on your way to a job that may not last.

 

"What do we want" is the ritual chant of every political assembly. The RNC's chant is jobs. The DNC's chant is abortion. Both are solutions of a sort. There are two ways to tackle unemployment. You can either make more jobs or make less people. If you make more jobs then families will make more little people and be able to afford them. If you make less people, then singles will be more economically secure but unable to start families.

"Whither goest thou, America," the pollsters and pundits asked the country four years ago. And the answer was a superwide highway lined with shovel-ready jobs and a new era in history. We drove on that highway and went as fast as we could, and still we could not escape the blight in every direction. The faster we drove, the worse it got. The gasoline cost a fortune and there were no jobs to be found to pay for it.

As night gave way not to morning but a sullen overclouded dusk, we realized that we had taken the wrong road. We were no longer in America anymore. Maybe we were in Mexico or Pakistan. It was hard to say where exactly the dark highway had taken us, but the place we were at now was not the place we wanted to be.

Although the difference is just 44/43, this represents an 11 point drop in favorability for the "Democrat brand" since 2008.  It is the Democrats worst pre convention rating since 1992. Moreover, in the years since Barack Obama took office the Party identification of registered voters has shown a steep drop for the Democrats. At their highest level the Democrats surpassed Republicans by an eye popping 53/34. Now Gallup's survey of those claiming to be "registered voters" shows that gap has all been wiped away. Is there any actor alive today that epitomizes the American ideals more than Clint Eastwood? Can anyone think of a show or movie he was in where they disagreed with his character in the end, rather than cheering his actions as those we would all like to think ourselves capable of in similar circumstances? If so, name one...go ahead, make my day...(Sorry, couldn't resist)!

At the Republican National Convention, Clint walked onstage and wrote a screenplay worthy of any of his movies.

Whatever the history of his character, he always found himself making decisions to come to the aid of foreigners being persecuted, (JOE KIDD, GRAN TORINO), Religion or women being threatened, (Two Mules for Sister Sarah), or the average guy or gal being wronged by criminals or the entrenched, corrupt powers that be, (the DIRTY HARRY series, PALE RIDER, UNFORGIVEN).

Our Marriage Ad Hits A Nerve

The menagerie of leftists gathered in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Democratic National Convention is "spitting mad" at my Super PAC's TV ad defending marriage. Conservative media, including The Weekly Standard, have given us favorable coverage. But over at the The Huffington Post, bloggers are savaging me for urging voters who believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman to vote for Romney/Ryan. The truth hurts!

Listen up, folks: I believe, contrary to the pundits, that the defense of normal marriage and the sanctity of life have the potential to defeat Obama more than a message that focuses ONLY on our economic mess!


Democrats Dump God & Jerusalem

The same left-wing media that wanted to make sure every American knew the Republican platform called for an end to all abortions are studiously ignoring the telltale signs in the Democratic platform of just who is meeting in Charlotte this week. Consider these examples of just how radical Obama's party has become.

• God gets dumped. Four years ago, when talking about hard work and achievement, the Democratic platform specifically referenced the opportunity of each individual to "make the most of their God-given potential." That reference to "God-given" talents was dropped from this year's platform. When asked why God was stripped out, party officials stumbled all over themselves trying to come up with an answer.
  
  But, of course, the answer is pretty simple. The media and the left won't say it, but the Democratic Party has become a radical secularist party. Why should it be surprising that God gets dumped from the Democratic Party platform when Obama repeatedly drops references to our Creator when he quotes the Declaration of Independence?
  
  The only time Democrats use God or the Bible is when they can distort them to sell their left-wing agenda. Thus Jesus gets trotted out by Obama to somehow make the case for same-sex marriage. Or Nancy Pelosi twists the Scriptures to make the case for big government wealth transfers.
  
  This is an administration that has dropped combatting religious persecution as a matter of foreign policy. And when this president praises religion at all, more often than not he's praising Islam.
  
  Now that I think about it, given the platform's aggressive promotion of abortion and same-sex marriage, God may be just as happy not to be in it!
• Where did Jerusalem go? Four years ago the Democratic Party acknowledge the obvious, "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel." There is no such statement in this year's platform. In fact, the word "Jerusalem" does not appear at all!
  
  But in recent months, neither a State Department spokesperson or the White House press secretary could answer the question, "What is the capital of Israel?" So it's no surprise that the Democratic Party, which is increasingly courting the Muslim vote in the U.S. while Obama courts the Muslim world aboard, just dropped Jerusalem entirely from its platform.
  
  It all fits together. They kick the God of Abraham out of the platform, and then kick the city that was the birth place of Judaism and Christianity out of their platform too!
  
  The absence of Jerusalem isn't the only problem for those who support Israel. The Palestinians aren't just demanding a new state of their own. They are also demanding the right of Palestinian refugees to return to Israel so they can demographically swamp the Jewish state. In other words, they are demanding the right to turn whatever remains of Israel into a Palestinian state as well!
  
  Four years ago, the Democrats understood that. But the language calling for Palestinian refugees to be settled in a new Palestinian state, "rather than in Israel," has been dropped. In addition, all references to isolating Hamas have been dropped. In short, the Democratic platform, with minor boilerplate exceptions, could have been written in Tehran or Damascus!
• Values. As expected, the Democratic platform embraces the radical notion of men "marrying" other men -- an idea that has been overwhelmingly rejected by the voters of 31 states, including the residents of North Carolina, where the Democratic National Convention is being held this week. Beyond that, Obama's party also embraced taxpayer-funded abortions. We're $16 trillion in debt and Obama's party wants to spend your hard-earned tax dollars on abortions too! That is a radical position rejected by 72% of Americans.

Government As God

When Barack Obama said of business owners, "You didn't build that," it was a rare moment of honesty, very revealing of his left-wing mindset. Desperate to promote his big government agenda, the Obama campaign created "The Life of Julia" -- one woman's cradle-to-grave story meant to demonstrate how you can't survive without government. Yesterday a video was shown to the convention delegates, which continued that theme with this line: "Government is the only thing we all belong to."

My friends, that wasn't a mistake. These conventions are highly scripted events that happen only once every four years. There is no way this movie wasn't thoroughly vetted. But the Democrats are trying to put a happy face on their government-knows-best agenda. Perhaps their motto should be "In Government We Trust."

Our Founding Fathers did not risk their lives, fortunes and sacred honor for the belief that we belong to the government. They fought to free us from that very idea! We don't belong to the government. The government belongs to us. That was the point of Clint Eastwood's address to the Republican National Convention when he said, "We own this country... Politicians are employees of ours."


The secularists may have taken God out of the Democratic platform, but it is clear that they worship at the altar of Big Government!


Barack In A Dress

I don't know how many of you tuned in to see Michelle Obama's speech last night. There were some touching personal stories about their daughters, her admiration for our troops and her work on behalf of military families.

But when she ventured into areas of public policy, what I heard was the same left-wing rhetoric that has been coming from her husband for the past four years. What I saw was Barack in a dress. Here's just one example:

"[Barack] believes that when you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you -- you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed."

What is she talking about? When entrepreneurs succeed, they are creating jobs for other people, helping them succeed too. If anyone is trying to slam the door on success, it is the left with its top-down, command-and-control policies, confiscatory taxes and regulations -- all of which stifle success!


A Tale Of Two Conventions

As I wrote yesterday, and as I have briefly outlined here, today's Democratic Party, led by Barack Obama, is a very radical party. Less than 600 miles separate Tampa, Florida (where the Republican National Convention was held) from Charlotte, North Carolina (where Democrats will hold their convention this week). But the ideas and policies advanced in the two political pep rallies are worlds apart. You can read more about these differences in my weekly column at humanevents.com.

Democrats set to move Obama's big speech from 74,000-seater outdoor stadium to 20,000-seater indoor arena

Democrats are poised to avoid the danger of President Barack Obama accepting his party's nomination before a partially-empty stadium by shifting his speech to an indoor arena and citing 'severe weather'.  

The Obama campaign have been working desperately to ensure that the 74,000-seater Bank of America stadium in Charlotte would be filled.   

Buses for students from across North Carolina and even members of black churches in neighboring South Carolina have been arranged.

Last week Democrats were running riot on the talk shows, gabbing about what they claimed was an extremist Republican platform on social issues like abortion. As I noted at the time, platforms were always meaningless and are as outdated as the political conventions that adopt them. Yet GOP stalwarts were reduced to ineffectual defenses that did little to undo the damage that the symbolic adoption of planks that provided no exceptions to abortion bans did among moderate and independent voters.

This week, the shoe is on the other foot. As soon as the Democratic platform was published, we learned they had banned all mention of God from their manifesto and watered down or eliminated pro-Israel language that had previously been present in past platforms. Their replies to questions about this have been as defensive and poorly received as those given by their GOP counterparts. These twin controversies provide an interesting window into the mindset of both parties. The Republican platform shows that the party is not interested in challenging the views of social conservatives while Democrats are not inclined to treat the sensibilities of the pro-Israel community as being worth worrying about. Even though platform language doesn't dictate policy (as pro-life advocates know since no Republican president has ever carried out their party's promises about abortion), what does that tell you about the current state of American politics?

$16,000,000,000,000

Yesterday, the U.S. national debt passed $16 trillion. On President Barack Obama's watch, the debt has increased by 50 percent, as campaign promise after campaign promise has drowned in a sea of federal spending.

When he was running for President, Obama condemned George W. Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt over eight years, calling it "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic." Now-in less than four years-Obama's Administration has already added almost $6 trillion to the debt. That means he is on track to triple Bush's debt increase over eight years.

It is important to understand the magnitude of this debt increase and what it means for the country. Several terms are often used to describe the debt, but they are not interchangeable. Here is a quick guide to the U.S. debt.

National debt or "gross debt," which just passed $16 trillion: This includes what we think of as federal debt plus intergovernmental debt-money the U.S. government has loaned itself from one part of the budget to another. An example of intergovernmental debt is transfers from the general fund to Social Security.

• The "debt ceiling" applies to this measure of the debt. At this rate, it will hit the ceiling again-meaning Congress will have to act and will likely raise the limit again-perhaps as early as November of this year.

• At $16 trillion, this number has passed total U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), the measure of all that is produced in the economy.

• Since Obama took office, the national debt has increased from about $10.6 trillion to more than $16 trillion-a 50 percent increase.

• Debt per taxpayer:  $111,414 and counting

Publicly held debt or "debt held by the public," which stands at about $11.3 trillion: The debt held by the public is publicly traded debt, so it can be bought and sold in the credit markets. It does not include the intergovernmental loans mentioned above.

• Since Obama took office, publicly held debt has increased from about $6.3 trillion to about $11.3 trillion-a nearly 80 percent increase.

• This total-and the 80 percent increase-is actually more significant, because President Obama has added more to the publicly held debt than any previous President.

The federal budget deficit, which is on track to top $1 trillion for the fourth straight year: The deficit shows how much government spending has exceeded revenue in a given year, or the money the government is taking in from taxes. In contrast, the publicly held debt is the total of all past deficits and surpluses. The U.S. government spends more than it takes in. To cover the deficit and continue spending, government bonds and notes-essentially IOUs-must be issued.

• President Obama vowed to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.

• Instead, Obama has averaged deficits nearly three times that of his predecessor.

These numbers are staggering. In just a few years, the U.S. will be spending more on just the interest on the national debt than on our entire national defense budget. As Heritage's Romina Boccia explains:

Countries like Greece and Italy demonstrate the economic pains that result from procrastinating on solving a nation's major spending and debt challenges. Only Congress can decide whether to make the prudent and intentional decisions to ward off a fiscal crisis, or whether to stand idle until forced to act by unnecessarily painful events that could have been avoided.

As it is, children born in the United States today-who won't pay taxes for years yet-are saddled with a more than $50,000 share of the national debt. If Congress and the President refuse to rein in spending, these children may grow up in the new Greece.
