Founding Fathers

Quote:

"But what do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution."

  Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots

Please read the letter below so you are clear on what happened with rule changes at the GOP Convention.
Incorrect information has been circulating.

Everyone,

I just talked to my personal friend and tea party member who is also a Republican PC and was a delegate to the convention. When he saw all the emails floating around he contacted me to let me know that the information that was going around was not correct. Some of you may know Jose Borrajero. His word, in my opinion, is as good as gold!

Jose said that the proposed rule that would have disenfranchised grassroots activists was presented to the delegations, but when Arizona and the other delegations strongly opposed it, the Rules committee withdrew that proposal. The proposal that was actually voted on said that a delegate is bound to vote for the candidate based on his/her state's rules. So, if it's a winner take all State like Arizona, then ALL the delegates must vote for the candidate who won Arizona's primary. If it is a proportional state then the delegates must vote in proportion to his/her states rules. IF the delegate votes contrary to those State rules, then the delegate can be removed by the RNC. This, to me, makes perfect sense and is the way it should be. Otherwise we would be disenfranchising all the people who voted in their State's primary for a candidate. Apparently, in Arizona, 3 of the delegates voted for Ron Paul, even though Arizona is a winner take all State and Romney won here. Ron Paul had 7% or less of Arizona's vote so obviously does not represent the will of Arizona Republicans.

It is this last proposal that was voted on by delegates. Jose said that it was a written ballot for all Arizona delegates, and he assumed the same for all other States. he said the voice vote was just a formality since the written ballot vote had already been taken and tallied and passed. As for the video Jim forwarded, Jose said that in the Convention arena there were about 2500 delegates but about 15,000 others (guests, media etc) up in the bleachers. The guests, were not official, and of course, not authorized to vote. However, when the voice vote was called, a huge number of Ron Paul supporters up in the bleachers yelled out "NO". Jose said the reason the "No's" sounded so loud is that the people who were not on the floor and not authorized to vote, were very close to the cell phone that was recording them!

Jose was there and saw what happened. He was down on the floor. He was very concerned that the wrong information was getting passed around. He sent the below information to give everyone more detail, so I have included his email below. Jose said he wants everyone to be clear that he does not feel the "establishment Republicans" are angels. There are many things he does not approve of, but this was not one of them. I hope all of you who forwarded information around regarding the rules committee will please share this with those others. One great thing about the Tea Party folks is our credibility. If we get incorrect information, we should always try and correct it when we can.

Sincerely,

September meeting Date Change - Due to a scheduling conflict at the Rock the Phila Tea Party Patriots' September meeting will be held on Tuesday the 18th from 7 to 9 PM.

Formation of the PA Freedom Coalition

Below is a message from Diana and Don Reimer notifying the grassroots of The efforts of the PA Freedom Coalition.
Grassroots organizers from Southeast PA have put together a cohesive plan that will get voters to the polls and educate them on issues around our core values.
You know them: Free markets, Fiscally responsible and Constitutionally limited government!
Flyers have been collected and designed along with scripts and door hangers. Now is your chance to volunteer!
Information about Two Activities

We need volunteers to man a table at the Perkiomenville Auction on September 3rd at 2345 Upper Ridge Rd, Perkiomenville, PA We will be there from 8 AM to 10 AM and possibly later depending on you, our volenteers.
We will also be at the Peach Festival at Branch Creek Church, Main Street Harleysville, on September 8th between 8 AM to 5 PM.

Please consider coming to help and email us to let us know the date and time you will be able to join us.

From Diana and Don,

Hi all
This GOTV effort is open to anyone that would like to help. They do not need to be part of a tea party or other grassroots group. Please forward to your group email lists also to your friends and neighbors if you feel they might be interested in helping us win in Montgomery County PA
Volunteers Needed
Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots; i.e.PA Freedom Coalition needs help getting volunteers. The number of volunteers needed are 100 walkers/riders and 30 drivers with vehicles, starting Saturday, 15 September for eight consecutive Saturdays ending on November 3rd. The volunteers will take part in an organized, planned door-knocking effort specifically to visit with registered Independents in 83 swing precincts in Montgomery county, PA. Three staging meetings for volunteer sign-ups and familiarization training are scheduled: September 4th, Tuesday 6:00-8:30pm; September 8th and 9th, Saturday and Sunday, Doors will be open from 1:00 to 6:00pm for individuals to come in and sign up as volunteers. Location address: Towamencin Township Municipal Center, 1090 Troxel Road Lansdale, PA 19446

Purpose and Goal
Our main PURPOSE: to get as many registered Independent voters to the polls and to cast their votes on issues and policies, not parties or personalities. Our main GOAL: to achieve a conservative majority in Montgomery county for the 2012 election. A conservative win in the highly populated Montgomery county is HUGH. And this change to a conservative majority in Montgomery County is REAL. We have need of 130 volunteers to take part in this door-knocking effort for eight consecutive Saturdays to swing these 83 precincts.

Why We Win
In past elections held in Pennsylvania, the proof is in election results - so goes the Southeast, so goes Pennsylvania. And over the past 20 years of elections, Southeast counties; Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware have all gone Blue and Bucks county to Purple. However, in this 2012 election, we will win back Montgomery County for the conservative right. Why is our confidence high? Is it because of our organized, planned door-to door strategy? Yes. Is it our door-knocking plan - specific to targeting registered Independents in 83 swing precincts? Yes.

How We Win
In these swing precincts in the progressive parts of Montgomery county (closest to Philadelphia, PA), passed elections were won in 83 precincts by Democrats because of 2 votes and not greater than 119 votes; with both parties breaking even throughout the 450 precincts. Our organized, planned action brings our volunteers to visit these 83 precincts (or 1/5 of all precincts) - walk to talk to registered Independents and to place issues-based literature in their hands at their doors; for no-answers, an issue-oriented door hanger is used.
We are in the process of finding funding for our project.
Does anyone know a printing company that is friendly to our cause?

Eagle Forum

September 1, 2012

Karl Rove has made himself toxic to Republicans by his incredibly offensive and dangerous statement suggesting the murder of Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri.   Any candidate or network who hires Rove will now be tarnished with this most malicious remark ever made in Republican politics.

Just imagine if someone had made that statement about Barack Obama.   The Secret Service would go on Red Alert and you can bet that the author of that remark would be in jail by now.   As quoted by a Businessweek reporter and now on the internet, Rove in Tampa told some 70 big donors to his Super PAC, American Crossroads, that every attendee should apply pressure to "sink Todd Akin" and force him out of the Senate race for which Missourians had nominated him.   Then Rove said that if Akin were "found mysteriously murdered, don't look for my whereabouts."    This stunning attack on Akin is now reported as a joke. Sorry, Karl, it isn't funny to joke about murdering a Congressman.    Rove has disliked Akin ever since Akin was one of the principled members of the U.S. House who voted against George W. Bush's extravagant expansion of Medicare when the vote was called at 5:53 am in November 2003. Akin is a man of principle who doesn't cave in to political pressure, so he's not Rove's kind of politician.    Rove tried to excuse his obscene joke by saying he would not have said it if he had known a reporter was in the room. That makes his statement worse! Is murder the kind of secret political advice Rove gives to Republican donors and candidates who hire him?    A private phone call by Rove to Akin to sort of apologize does not erase the public offense. At the very least Rove should make a public apology. But even that can't wipe out his gross political mistake.    Karl Rove is an embarrassment to the Republican Party. We don't want any more of his advice in secret briefings or publicly on Fox News. Missourians don't want politicians from other states telling us who to run for the Senate.    Rove has been calling on Todd Akin to resign, but the one who should resign because he made an embarrassing, malicious, and downright stupid remark is Karl Rove.

New Campaign launched by former CIA, Special Operations Members to combat leaks and politicization of National Security Info

Kicks Off Nationwide With Release Of Documentary Short Film Titled "Dishonorable Disclosures"

OPSEC Website: http://www.opsecteam.org/

Former CIA and Special Operations members are announcing the creation of OPSEC, a new nationwide public campaign to combat the spike in leaks and politicization of Intelligence and Special Operations missions that threaten their effectiveness and the safety of Americans who conduct them. OPSEC - short for Operational Security, meaning to eliminate or reduce the exploitation of critical information - will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a new documentary short film highlighting the problem from the perspective of those who have served in these critical positions. The film will also serve as the basis for a TV and online advertising effort.

http://www.opsecteam.org/

"Intelligence and Special Operations members are angry and frustrated at how our work has been used for political advantage by officials across government, including President Obama himself who bears special responsibility as Commander in Chief," said Scott Taylor, chairman of OPSEC and a former Navy SEAL. "We want the American people to understand the cost of these leaks and politicization both on those who serve and on our national security and to hold those in positions of leadership accountable if it doesn't stop."

OPSEC is made up of individuals who served their country in the CIA, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) consisting of Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations. It is organized as a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan public education campaign and is independent of any political party or campaign organization.

The campaign will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a documentary short film that views the impact of the increasing number of leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions, tradecraft, tactics and capabilities from the perspective of those who have relied on these tools to carryout similar missions and protect themselves and those they served alongside. The film will be shown at events in key states across the country over the next several months, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada. "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be seen here.

"Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk," said Fred Rustmann, an OPSEC member and 24-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency. "OPSEC will carry a strong message across the country that it's time for President Obama and other administration officials to stop jeopardizing national security operations for political gain."

More information about OPSEC and news about the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be found at http://www.opsecteam.org/.

Dishonorable Disclosures

Former Special Ops officers from four separate branches of the military have joined ranks for one specific purpose - to remove Barack Obama from office.

And now they need your help to do it.

Dear Fellow American,

During World War II, they had a poster up in every defense plant and military base in America.

It didn't mince words; it told it straight --

"Loose lips sink ships."

Well, now our nation is saddled with a Commander in Chief who just doesn't seem to get that message. Or, if he does, he simply doesn't care.

Let me lay it on the line: Barack Obama's loose lips are doing worse than sinking ships - they're putting our entire nation at risk.

And if you and I don't get this man out of office, he's going to destroy our military, undermine every ally we have, and arm our enemies to the teeth.

All for his own sorry political purposes.

That's why I am asking you to join me now in helping the Special Operations Speaks (SOS) PAC launch a nationwide campaign to remove Barack Obama from office. Before it's too late.

PS: Like most Navy officers, the date of June 15, 1985, is seared in my memory. That's the date Islamic terrorists hijacked TWA Flight 847 and brutally tortured Navy Seabee Robert Stethem to death. All he had to do was scream out for mercy, and he would have been allowed to live. But he refused to utter a sound.

The pilot of Flight 847 later said, "He was the bravest man I've ever seen in my life."

Bob Stethem's brother was a Navy SEAL; I know him. So, I know something of the stuff of which he was made. Warriors like him don't scream out, they don't beg for mercy, and they don't ask for help.

And that's why my fellow former Special Operations officers and I are asking for your help on their behalf today.

In 2008, when he was running for president, Barack Obama promised his leftwing supporters that if they helped him get elected, "I will slow the development of future combat systems."

That's one of the only campaign promises he has kept. And it has placed our brave warriors in harm's way.

Your gift of $25, $50, $100 - even $1,000 or more if you can possibly spare it - will help our Special Operations Speaks PAC bring an end to Barack Obama's war on the military. So, I urge you, please give as generously as you can.

White House Watch

Please give your attention to this important announcement from the Senate Conservatives Fund. From time to time, we send you content on behalf of third parties we believe may be of interest to you and we believe this one deserves your attention.

Senate Conservatives Fund

Fellow Conservatives:

If you want to stop the massive growth of our federal government and save America's future, we must change the United States Senate.

Harry Reid and the Democrats control the Senate today and, unfortunately, we still have too many Republicans who lack the courage to fight for our nation's founding principles.

As a Senator who works each day to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are destroying our country, I can tell you that we desperately need conservative reinforcements.

This is why I founded the Senate Conservatives Fund back in 2008 and it's why SCF is working so hard today to elect a new group of leaders in 2012 who will fight to turn this country around.

Will you help change the Senate?

The Senate Conservatives Fund has endorsed eight conservative candidates who will help strip Harry Reid of control of the Senate and fight the liberal policies that are bankrupting our country.

Josh Mandel Ohio
Josh Mandel Ohio
Jeff Flake Arizona
Jeff Flake Arizona
Richard Mourdock Indiana
Richard Mourdock Indiana
Ted Cruz Texas
Ted Cruz Texas

Deb Fischer Nebraska
Deb Fischer Nebraska
George Allen Virginia
George Allen Virginia
Tom Smith Pennsylvania
Tom Smith Pennsylvania
Dan Bongino Maryland
Dan Bongino Maryland

These eight candidates are unique in that they have conservative records, have earned support from the grassroots in their states, and have the courage to stand up for our values -- even if it means going against their own party's leadership.

These candidates support all of SCF's policy goals, including:

  • Cutting spending to balance the budget
  • Repealing Obamacare entirely
  • Securing the borders and oppose amnesty
  • Stopping corporate bailouts
  • Banning earmarks
  • Establishing term limits
  • Defending the 2nd Amendment
  • Protecting human life

The Senate Conservatives Fund is doing two important things to help its endorsed candidates win in November.

First, SCF is raising money for each of the candidates from donors all across the nation. Money alone does not win elections, but the lack of money can certainly lose them.

Second, SCF is running powerful TV and radio ads to counter the opposition and drive home our side's message of economic freedom and prosperity.

So if you want to do something really meaningful and effective to save our country, please support the Senate Conservatives Fund and its endorsed candidates TODAY.

Help Change the Senate ...

SCF makes it possible for you to donate directly to its eight endorsed candidates so they receive 100% of your donations.

This is a very unique approach for a third-party group and it shows exactly how committed SCF is to helping these candidates. It's also why the POLITICO newspaper called SCF a "wildly successful small-donor fundraising machine."

These are exceptional candidates who have overcome long odds to get this far, and now they urgently need your help to win in November.

Time is running out and we must work together to send true conservative leaders to Washington this year.

Thank you for doing what you can to help turn this country around.

Sincerely,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator

P.S. If we're going to save America, we must fire Harry Reid and change the United States Senate. Without a conservative Senate, we'll never stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are destroying this great country.

Sept. 11, 2012: Come to Pamela Geller's Free Speech SION event at the UN Plaza in New York City

If you're anywhere near New York on 9/11, check out this invitation to attend Pamela Geller's FREE SPEECH event

SION to Hold International Congress and Media Workshop to Address Islamic Supremacist War Against Free Speech

The world's leading forces for freedom will be there. There is a suggested contribution of $36 per person.  Register now, space is limited. September 11, 2012, UN Plaza Millenium Hotel, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Email:  PamelaGeller@gmail.com to register.

NEW YORK: The first session of the International Freedom Defense Congress, the operating body of the human rights organization Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), will be held in New York on September 11, 2012. The principal focus of the Congress will be a media workshop pertaining to Islamic supremacist attempts to restrict the freedom of speech in the free world, and the smear campaigns against freedom fighters in newspapers and media institutions in the West.

"The objective of this first-of-its-kind workshop is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns," SION said in a statement. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions, as epitomized in March 2012 by the New York Times' running of an anti-Catholic smear ad and rejection of a SION ad telling the truth about Islamic jihad.

It said the workshop will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims, which it added still occur from time to time.

"The workshop will represent a quantum leap in media action, as it discusses, beyond rhetoric, the practical steps to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech," SION President Pamela Geller said.  Fighting Back in the War on Free Speech Pamela Geller, March 18, 2012

Freedom fighters from all over the globe, journalists, intellectuals and academicians will be among the participants in the workshop, which will consist of brainstorming sessions to develop mechanisms for cooperation with external partners, and to develop an action plan to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.

The organization noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.

Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.

This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.

"We are holding this Congress on the eleventh anniversary of the day jihad came to America in order to strike a blow for freedom," Geller said.

Act for America

Brigitte Gabriel to Speak
in Vineland, NJ!

Brigitte Gabriel   Leading Global Islamic Terrorism Expert

Brigitte Gabriel

CLICK HERE to view Brigitte's special video invitation!

It is my privilege to invite you to a special event featuring Brigitte Gabriel, Founder and President of ACT! for America. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the following:

Chestnut Assembly of God
2554 E. Chestnut Ave.
Vineland, NJ 08360

Thursday, September 27th at 7 pm

Ms. Gabriel will speak on the rise of Islamic radicalism in your community and in our nation. Her story of survival as a persecuted Christian living in a bomb shelter for 7 years will have you captivated and inspired! She will share how the events of 9/11 compelled her to start ACT! for America, the largest national security grassroots organization in the U.S.

The events over the past eighteen months have been a sobering wake-up call to America. Without question, the threats radical Islam poses to America have increased.

Brigitte will discuss these threats to our security and our freedoms, such as...

  • The growing threat of homegrown jihad, with the number of such jihadist plots skyrocketing over the past two years.
  • How terrorists are exploiting our porous southern border, often working with drug cartels.
  • The increasingly militant-and successful-effort by Islamists worldwide to suppress free speech and criminalize any criticism of Islam.
  • The growing Muslim Brotherhood threat and how Islamic sharia law is creeping into America.
  • How the history and doctrines of Islam are being misrepresented in public school textbooks and classrooms.
For a taste of what is in store for you, check out Brigitte's speech at one of our recent events:

http://www.tennessean.com/VideoNetwork/1271237687001/ACT-for-America-founder-speaks-at-anti-Shariah-conference-in-Nashville

You will hear first-hand how ACT! for America is successfully rolling back the tide of radical Islam...how we are winning legislative victories...how we don't have to live in fear or resign ourselves to the inevitability of the threats arrayed against us...and how we will prevail.

I encourage you to forward this email to everyone you know. They may forward it to someone they know who may not only attend, but will invite others to come! We are sending this email to our members in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland because we know from prior experience, that many people are not only willing to travel to hear Brigitte speak, but are willing to bring others with them.

I know those of you who have heard Brigitte will agree-you don't want to miss this! It will be an event people will be talking about for a long time to come!

Invite your friends and come join us in Vineland, NJ! We look forward to seeing you on September 27th.

Yours for a Safe and Free America,

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21

 By Kelly OConnell
Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?

Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:

Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.

Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.

I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development

The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.

A. Ramsar Convention (1971)

According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). Another site, Texans Against Agenda 21, also states that the seed agreement for Agenda 21 was Ramsar:

 SMART METER ALERT!

Dear Patriots,

Peco has stopped installing Smart Meters which are part of UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development).  If you have had a Smart Meter installed on your home, you should immediately call Peco and tell them to remove it.  These fires have been reported in other states after the meters were installed.

http://www.myfoxphilly.com/story/19289039/peco-halts-smart-meter-installation-program#.UCxNmtghRs1.facebook

For those that have already had the Smart Meter installed on their home, Peco will return, test the meter, and place a warning sign on the meter with a device that should a fire start, the meter will shut off.  New reports are that Peco has switched overnight to another provider for these meters, assuring the public that these will be safe. Are we to trust this company, the same one that put fire hazards on 186,000 homes in PA?

Now is the time to act!  The ball is in our court.  I will be trying to go up to Harrisburg in September to push to get legislation out of committee.  Maybe we are being given time to stop part of UN agenda 21.

Call PECO and tell them no to the "new technology" meters.

Thank you.

The Republican War On Chairs: We Are All Chairs Now!

Obama Empty Chair President Seal Parody The entire Progdom is up in arms since the Chair Wars started with Clint Eastwood's unprovoked attack on an innocent chair at the RNC. Instead of acting as a policy expert like all the Prog actors do, Mr. Eastwood presumed to act as an actor and delivered an acting performance. What a bizarre idea!

Unbeknownst to Eastwood, that was actually the 5th or the 6th most interesting chair in the room. It had enough capacity to seat not just our invisible president, but also millions of jobs that had been saved or created, as well as undocumented voters, necroproxies, and all the fake Twitter followers.

Dear Friends,

We have 63 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.

If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent

nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.

We do not have to travel down this road.  We can change the course.  You can help steer America in the right direction.

If you want an America where free enterprise is respected and ObamaCare is repealed,

and not the other way, stay in the area this summer & fall .  Volunteer at Republican Victory Centers

Citizens United

Today I am proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking documentary that will rattle the political establishment. Citizens United Productions' newest film "The Hope and The Change" examines the surprising journey of forty Americans - Democrats and Independents - who supported and voted for President Obama four years ago.

The powerful voices in "The Hope and The Change" will resonate with many citizens across the country who are disillusioned with the Presidency of Barack Obama. This persuasive documentary will change many minds and get people off the fence and into the game.

That is why it is so important for as many people as possible to see it. The film will premiere during the RNC in Tampa next Tuesday (please register for free tickets NOW at www.CitizensUnited.org/RNC) and is set for a limited theatrical release in September.

The good news is that you can also be the first to order the film on DVD TODAY!

This 60 minute documentary follows the daily lives of hard-working Democrats and Independents through unscripted and unrehearsed interviews. Viewers will see how their nation's economy and society has changed over the past four years under the policies of President Obama.

The diverse cast of "The Hope and The Change" encompasses a broad cross-section of America's racial and socio-economic spectrum who come from seven swing states that experts say will decide the 2012 presidential election. Writer/Director Stephen K. Bannon and I traveled to Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to search out these authentic American stories from citizens who have lost faith in their President.

President Obama campaigned in 2008 on "Hope" and "Change" but these stories reflect the sentiment across America that the country has changed for the worse. The voices of everyday Americans in this film will have a major impact on the debates that are currently raging across America.

"The Hope and The Change" will be a powerful tool in your arsenal this fall as you discuss the fate of this country with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Order it TODAY to watch and send to the people in your life who are undecided and apathetic about this election.

Sincerely,

David N. Bossie
President of Citizens United

P.S. The tapestry of real American voices in 'The Hope and The Change' will resonate with many citizens who are disappointed in the direction of the country. Help us get it into their hands by ORDERING YOUR COPIES TODAY!

Breaking: True The Vote Sues the State of Ohio

TTV has teamed up with Judicial Watch yet again to ensure that voter rolls are accurate - this time in Ohio. For months we have been trying to work with Ohio to remedy an issue with counties having more voters on the rolls than people alive and eligible. Unfortunately, a lawsuit was the last option left to us to ensure election integrity. The press release and links to the text of the suit can be found here. As always, we'll keep you updated.

Texas Voter ID Suffers Short-Term Loss

Thursday morning, early reports indicated and were confirmed that Texas' voter identification law had been blocked in the DC federal court. Although this certainly broke the streak of similar laws being upheld or left unchallenged in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Virginia, Texas had a different fate. Our good friend J. Christian Adams had warned this would happen for some time now, due to recent changes to the Voting Rights Act. This isn't the end for the law, however. Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbot promised to seek an appeal before the US Supreme Court. We can only hope that Texas is held to the same standards as Indiana.

Voter ID Success Story: Minnesota

Professional opponents of election integrity were handed a stinging defeat earlier this week in the great state of Minnesota. The state supreme court dismissed an attempt to keep voters from deciding to amend their constitution and require photo voter ID. Needless to say, the justices did not appreciate the gesture. TTV released the following, "True The Vote celebrates this ruling but is not surprised," True The VotePresident Catherine Engelbrecht said. "We witnessed one of the saddest attempts to derail the good work of the greater election integrity movement by the hands of the League of Women Voters, Common Cause and others. The notion that voters must not be permitted to adopt enhanced election integrity measures such as photo voter ID is simply offensive. The Minnesota Supreme Court acted wisely and without partisan influence. This is a victory for voters and our judicial system."

Serious Summit Success

The traveling True The Vote gang just wrapped up its summer schedule this week with hundreds of new volunteers ready to observe polls and research registration records. Our most recent summit in Worthington was well attended and covered by local media. It was a real pleasure seeing all of you in Colorado and Ohio. Keep an eye out for upcoming poll watcher trainings to be held near you!

A Few Thoughts for Our Critics

Throughout True The Vote's brief history, but with increasing frequency in the past days, our organization has been attacked by a well funded collection of partisan activists, "journalists" and marginal agitators with a misguided desire to deny the existence of voter fraud, while intimidating those who seek to uphold election law.

Now, a new "study" casts even more misplaced condemnation over True the Vote's goals to build a network of volunteers, grassroots groups, local officials, and statewide office holders in an attempt to observe elections across the country.

True The Vote takes great pride in its effort to make certain that voter registration lists are as accurate as possible, not falsely weighted with the names of dead, non-citizen and otherwise ineligible voters. Those who are obsessed with name-calling and blame-casting are in desperate need of an education on federal voting laws, especially Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act.

True The Vote and, by extension, the election integrity movement, have grown at such a rapid rate because our nation demands it. Latest polling shows 74 percent of Americans approve of enhanced voter integrity measures. Those offering outrageous claims that voter fraud does not exist because they are funded to keep the spin alive will continue to be proven wrong.

True The Vote will be out in force this November. Our trained poll watchers will be equipped to challenge wrongdoing in the most efficient and immediate manner possible, with detailed understanding of local law and procedures. Our efforts in 2014, 2016 and beyond will be even greater. Get Involved with True The Vote
Do you know if you're currently registered to vote? Need a voter ID? Have you moved or just recently come of age? True The Vote now offers new options on our website that gets you ready for Election Day. If anyone complains that abiding by our laws are too difficult - send them to True The Vote.

Unelectable 2012

Unelectable 2012 When you think of the great presidential debates throughout history, there's Lincoln and Douglas in 1858, Kennedy and Nixon in 1960, and then there is Glenn's new live comedy stage show, Unelectable 2012.

Since Glenn couldn't personally visit every city in America on his Unelectable 2012 tour, he has decided that the final show will be simulcast LIVE in movie theaters all over the country, probably one in your town! Watch Glenn drown in his own sweat while you relax in air conditioning, eating nachos and Milk Duds.

This is an amazingly funny show, the kind of presidential debate that you'll never actually see because Glenn plays a candidate who tells the truth! Joined by the writers and performers of GBTV's sketch comedy show, The B.S. of A., many are saying it could be the funniest show Glenn's ever done, and it ends with an inspiring message that will have you on your feet full of hope. It's a night of fun the whole family can enjoy! With the election season we've got in front of us, this may be the only "funny-on-purpose" thing related to politics for years to come.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE PEOPLE?

What Is the Role of the People? "In the United States, government requires not merely the consent of the governed. It rests ultimately on the ability of the people to govern themselves."

As the presidential election approaches, the choices before our nation have never been more critical. The final volume in the Understanding America series, What is the Role of the People?

, examines the great responsibility the Founders bestowed upon us, the American people.

The Founders built the United States on the fundamental principle that we have the right to govern ourselves. To govern effectively, we must ensure our society's continued virtue and freedom, and pass the inheritance of freedom on to each new generation.

Authored by Heritage Foundation President Edwin Feulner, this final volume in the

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Jul 18th, 2012

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Losing Our SonsCharles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Progressive Insurance....Who are they?
You've seen and probably smiled at the clever Progressive Insurance TV commercials.
Well, as Paul Harvey would say, "You're about to learn the rest of the story".

PROGRESSIVE AUTO INSURANCE

You know their TV commercials, the ones featuring the ditsy actress all dressed in white.
What you might not know is that the Chairman of Progressive is Peter Lewis, one of the major
funders of leftist causes in America .

Between 2001 and 2003, Lewis funneled $15 million to the ACLU, the group most responsible for destroying what's left of Americas Judeo-Christian heritage.

Lewis also gave $12.5 million to

MoveOn.org <http://moveon.org/>

and America Coming Together, two key propaganda arms of the socialist left.

His funding for these groups was conditional on matching contributions from George Soros, the America-hating socialist who is the chief financier of the Obama political machine.

Lewis made a fortune as a result of capitalism, but now finances a progressive movement that threatens to destroy the American free enterprise system that is targeting television shows on Fox News.

Peter Lewis is making a fortune off of conservative Americans (who buy his auto insurance) that he then applies to dismantle the very system that made him wealthy. He's banking on no one finding out who he is, so STOP buying Progressive Insurance and pass this information on to all your friends.
Chairman Lewis' gift helps the ACLU promote their anti-Christmas agenda such as:

§

Removing nativity scenes from public property

§

Banning songs such as Silent Night from schools

§

Refusing to allow students to write about the Christian aspect of Christmas in school projects

§

Renaming Christmas break Winter break

§

Refusing to allow a city sponsored Christmas parade to be called a Christmas parade

§

Not allowing a Christmas tree in a public school

§

Renaming a Christmas tree displayed on public property a Holiday tree
In addition to their war on Christmas, the ACLU uses gifts like that from Chairman Lewis to:

§

Sue states to force them to legalize homosexual marriage

§

Force libraries to remove porn filters from their computers

§

Sue the Boy Scouts to force them to accept homosexuals as scout leaders

§

Help legalize child pornography

§

Legalize live sex acts in bars in Oregon

§

Protect the North American Man Boy Love Association whose motto is "sex by eight or it is too late"

§

Censor student led prayer at graduation

§

Remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance

§

Remove "In God We Trust" on our currency

Hillsdale constituion class

Hillsdale's New FREE Online Course:
The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism

Available to you, your family, your friends,
and all Americans.

Begins September 4, 2012 - Sign Up TODAY!

Dear Linda,
In 2012 our Constitution is under assault like never before.

Even as I write, self-described Progressives are working to subvert the Constitution to replace it with an ever more expansive and intrusive bureaucratic despotism.

My name is Larry Arnn and I'm the President of Hillsdale College.  You might have heard Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and other conservative radio hosts talk about Hillsdale College.

The ongoing radical Progressive agenda poses a serious threat to the survival of free government in our great nation.  At Hillsdale, we believe that a massive, nationwide education project to promote America's founding principles is the only way to defeat this Progressive agenda.

As one of our most loyal supporters, you've been an important part of Hillsdale's effort to educate Americans on the importance of preserving our Constitution.

That's why I want you to be one of the first to know about our brand new online course:

"The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and
the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism."

The first class begins on Tuesday, September 4 and the final one will occur during the week of the national elections in November. I hope you'll sign up immediately.

[Register for this new course right now.]

In this no-cost, ten-week course, you'll learn from members of Hillsdale's politics department faculty - some of the nation's top scholars on the Constitution - about the history of Progressivism and how the movement has slowly chiseled away at our freedoms over the past century.

With Hillsdale's outstanding reputation as a leading academic institution, this course offers you a unique educational experience that you won't be able to get anywhere else.

Earlier this year Hillsdale offered its first online course on the Constitution.  And in doing so it made a major impact with more than 275,000 Americans registering for "Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution."
We expect our newest course - The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism - to attract even more attention.  And I hope you will be one of the registrants!

Here are the ten lecture topics for the course...

Why is Hillsdale teaching a course on the Progressive movement?

Americans who believe in constitutional liberty and limited government need to understand what they're up against, so Hillsdale designed this course to teach Americans the history of Progressivism and how it continues to work to ignore and dismantle the U.S. Constitution.

From its intellectual origins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, to the massive government expansions under FDR's New Deal and LBJ's Great Society, to the third great expansion of big-government programs during the past three years, Progressives are making our country unrecognizable in comparison to the constitutional republic created by America's Founding Fathers.

To understand fully this attack on limited government constitutionalism, and thus to know what is needed to stem the tide, take Hillsdale's new online Constitution course, which starts on September 4 and concludes the week of the national elections in November.

PLEASE GO HERE TO REGISTER NOW.

AND, like all Hillsdale online courses, it will be archived online so that you can refer back to the lectures or access them at your leisure.

I have the privilege of delivering the first lecture, "The Founders' Constitution and the Challenge of Progressivism," and the final lecture, "Restoring Constitutional Government." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

[Go here to see the course's schedule and register]

I am proud, thanks to your past support and the support of many patriotic Americans, that Hillsdale College is teaching hundreds of thousands of Americans about the Constitution and its principles of liberty. This course is crucial for all Americans who want to understand the dangers confronting the Constitution and its principles today. I hope YOU will join us for this important course!

As President of Hillsdale College, I have devoted my life to education, and in particular to teaching about the American founding, its underlying principles, and subsequent constitutional history.

The last chapter in that history, covering the past century, tells a story about how the progressive movement has undermined the Constitution and replaced it with a bureaucratic despotism - if we are to recover the Constitution, that story must be understood.

That is why we are offering this new course, free, to all Americans.

[Please go here to enroll in our new Constitution Course: "The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism" Today]

The more than 275,000 who signed up for our first constitution course last spring prove that Americans are willing and eager to study and defend the Constitution and the principles that made our country the most free and most prosperous in human history!

I hope you will sign up for our new course and help continue this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution.

My Request to You

ACTION STEP #1: Be one of the first to sign up for our newest online course: The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism by completing the course REGISTRATION form. Remember, the course starts on September 4 and ends during the week of the national elections in November.

ACTION STEP #2: Please continue your generous support of Hillsdale College by including a generous tax-deductible donation to help Hillsdale College fund this vital project.

This new online course, available at no charge to the public, is not without cost to Hillsdale. The College has already invested much to make this critical course a reality.

To make this course available nationwide will cost nearly $1,000,000. While a monumental expenditure for Hillsdale College, we consider it a duty to reach and teach as many students, citizens, and elected officials as possible during this year and beyond.

ACTION STEP #3: Please forward this email to friends and family and encourage them to enroll in this brand new course on The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism.

OUR CHALLENGE

With your help, Hillsdale College is dedicated to returning the Constitution to its rightful place at the center of American political life.

If our republic does not re-embrace the Constitution, we will not be able to reclaim the liberty that has been lost, and may yet lose the liberty we still have.

Hillsdale College has accepted this challenge, and our commitment to making this course available to citizens nationwide is proof.  But we need you, as one of our best supporters, to help to make this possible. . .

[Go here to register and donate]

As you may already know, in order to protect the integrity of its mission and prevent intrusive government regulation, Hillsdale College accepts no taxpayer funding whatsoever, even indirectly in the form of federal or state student grants or loans.

Your generosity at this critical time will not just help underwrite the cost of making this course available nationwide. It will also support all the other ways that Hillsdale College educates Americans to be defenders of liberty and self-government.

MY GIFT FOR YOU

In appreciation of your donation of $100 or more, I will send you a copy of the book used by our students in their one-semester course on the Constitution - The U.S. Constitution: A Reader.

This exhaustive, 790-page volume was compiled by our Politics Department faculty at Hillsdale. It's the perfect companion to all of Hillsdale's online courses on the Constitution.
For a donation of $50, I'll send you a complimentary copy of my recently-published hardbound book. Its title is:

THE FOUNDERS' KEY: THE DIVINE AND NATURAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DECLARATION AND THE CONSTITUTION AND WHAT WE RISK BY LOSING IT

In this book I explain the unique connection between America's two most important documents, how that connection has been severed today, and why we must repair it for the sake of freedom.

With your gift of $25, I'll send you a custom-engraved blue and silver Hillsdale pen as a token of our appreciation for your support.

Your gift, of whatever amount you can provide, will help make it possible for us to offer this important course on the Constitution to all Americans. And for that I am grateful.

Please go here to donate and REGISTER

For liberty to prevail, Americans must understand and defend the U.S. Constitution.

And they must do so quickly and urgently.

Please help Hillsdale College educate all Americans - including our elected officials - on how to revive the Constitution and preserve individual liberty and limited government in 2012 and beyond.

Thank you for supporting Hillsdale College.

Yours for liberty,

Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Victory Center" on Facebook

-Gabriel Malor

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

RedState Morning Briefing

RedState Morning Briefing

For September 4, 2012

1. Forward Back Across the Bridge to the 21st Century

Today, in Charlotte, NC, the Democrats will convene their convention to re-nominate Barack Obama as President of the United States. There are two ironies they will do their best to ignore. First, four years after a concerted effort to paint Bill Clinton as a racist, Barack Obama depends on Bill Clinton's presence and blessings to secure his re-election. Second, and most importantly, after a several month effort to claim the Republicans wants to go backwards, the Democrats will rely on a bunch of former Governors and a President elected two decades ago promising a bridge to the 21st century to make a case for their slogan "Forward".

Consider that for a minute.

2. Obama's Attempt to Ignore the Last 4 Years Includes Recycling 2008 Words, Phrases, and Promises

The lengths to which the Obama campaign is going to pretend that the last four years simply didn't happen (or, in the words of Ezra Klein's headline writer, to act as though Mitt "Romney's policies are the incumbent," rather than the sitting President of the United States) have been laughable in their extremity. Part of the effort to recreate 2008 in the current election cycle, as a new ad from the RNC shows, is to simply recycle the same words, phrases, and promises then-candidate Obama made four years ago - before his Carteresque term as President.

3. Romney leads in North Carolina as Democrat convention begins

As the delegates to the Democrat Convention gather in Charlotte, North Carolina, they are greeted with a discouraging headline in the Charlotte Observer, "As DNC begins, Romney Gains in N.C."

The headline is a reference to the new Elon University/Charlotte Observer Poll shows the GOP presidential candidate leading President Barack Obama 47 percent to 43 percent among likely voters in North Carolina.

The poll found the women vote almost evenly split on their support 45 percent for Obama 44 percent Romney. So much for the gender gap.

The respondents said Romney would do a better job of handling the economy 52 percent to 39 percent and more said that Romney more closely shares their values 48 percent to 45 percent.

The economy/jobs is the most important issue for likely North Carolina voters.

The poll was conducted August 25-30, 2012, and has a margin of error of 3 percent.

4. Union Bosses Keeping [Mostly] Low Profiles At DNC's Union-Free Convention

Union bosses have made such a big deal about being upset with the DNC's pick of Charlotte, North Carolina for its convention (even going so far as having an August 'shadow convention') that, while they may be in the state for the Barack Obama nomination celebration, they're making every effort to make it look like they're absent.

Adding insult to injury, not only is North Carolina the least unionized state in the nation, the stadium where Barack Obama is giving his acceptance speech was built by entirely union-free labor.

5. Sex Trafficking At The Conventions

As thousands gathered last week for the Republican National Convention and will this week for the Democratic National Convention, another major story goes largely unreported right outside the convention doors. As is the case with other large events, sex trafficking will spike in the convention cities and local efforts to fight the problem may partially be in vain.

But it feels like the left-wingers in the legacy/elite media have gone off the rails this week at the Republican National Convention.

Jumah event removed from DNC web site calendar.

Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on August 29, 2012 which reported the following two sub headlines:  DNC approves Jumah for 20,000 Muslims. RNC adopts anti-Sharia plank at convention.  The DNC portion of the email alert is posted below.

The email alert and Floridafamily.org web site provided a link to the DNC web site calendar of events which at that time and up until yesterday afternoon included the Juma event.  However, the Juma event has been removed from the DNC web site calendar.  A supporter also took note of this change and submitted the following email to Florida Family Association.

Hi,

I thought you may be interested to know that.

"Jumma at the DNC" has just been removed from the DNC website! It was still there 5.30 PM on 8/30/2012 and at 6.30 PM it was gone! I looked everywhere but it's not listed anymore.

Looks like the DNC are getting cold feet!

This is a great victory!

Is it possible the DNC felt pressure to remove this even from the calendar?  And if so what pressure?

The Washington Times reports that 20,000 Muslims will gather for "Jumah at DNC" lead by radical Imam Siraj Wahhaj

"The Democratic National Convention is endorsing a political platform for the organizers of a program called the "Jumah at the DNC." It begins with a jummah prayer on Friday, August 31 and ends on September 2,

On the surface it appears that the event, organized by the Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs (BIMA), is cultural fun for the whole family whose only political focus is Muslims' right to assembly, but it is much more than that.

The DNC lists the assembly as an "official function" and claims that the leaders of the program are typical of the DNC community. The group is hardly "mainstream," being represented by Siraj Wahhaj, who will be the "Grand Imam" for the gathering."

Imam Siraj Wahhaj

Here's what the Washington Times reports about Imam Siraj Wahhaj.

  • At a solidarity speech in 1995, Wahhaj informed the world that it was his "duty and our duty as Muslims to replace the U.S. Constitution with the Quran."
  • On another occasion Wahhaj commented, "if only Muslims were clever politically, they could take over the United States and replace its constitutional government with a caliphate."
  • At another time he warned the United States that it is doomed to fall unless it "accepts the Islamic agenda."
  • And finally, this: "You know what this country (USA) is? It's a garbage can. It's filthy."

Moderate? You be the judge. And his appearance in Charlotte is endorsed by the DNC.

What is so disheartening about the so-called "Jumah at the DNC" is that it has thus far gone unnoticed or ignored by the mainstream press.

Republican National Convention adopts anti-Sharia plank.

The Republican Party's platform committee adopted a plank without argument or debate on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 which embraces American Laws for American Courts legislation that prohibits courts from considering foreign laws, including Sharia law.  The platform was sponsored by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on the GOP to reject what they call an "anti-Islam platform."

And of course the far leftist media like The Chicago Tribune, NewJersey.com and the Kansas City Star took deep shots at patriotic Americans' concern regarding the threat Sharia law poses to the United States.

Truly, Islamists' best friends are found in America's mainstream media and Democratic party.

RJC Condemns California Democratic Party Chairman's 'Goebbels' Smear Against GOP

Washington, D.C. (September 3, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition today condemned California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton for likening Republicans to infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels and urged the party's elected leaders to repudiate the offensive remarks.

RJC Executive Director Matthew Brooks said,

"John Burton ought to know better than to bring the Nazis and their victims into our current political debates, but apparently the offense such remarks cause to Holocaust survivors and their families are of less concern to him than the prospect of partisan gain.

"Jewish Americans expect more from political leaders and it is incumbent on elected Democrats, starting with Governor Brown, Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer, to unequivocally reject Burton's outrageous and offensive remarks."

THE INTERFAITH TASKFORCE FOR AMERICA AND ISRAEL (ITAI)

123 S. Broad Street, Suite 1832, Philadelphia, PA 19109

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Dear ITAI MEMBERS AND DONORS:

ITAI ON THE MOVE...A two-year admirable struggle by ITAI VP Steve Crane to launch the Solomon Charter School has succeeded. The Solomon Charter School will open its doors to approximately 200 students this coming week. The school's curriculum is distinct and highly unusual-it will offer its students two cultural clusters: Hebrew and Chinese...

This issue of the ITAI WEEKLY MIDDLE EAST REPORT titled The Growing Chinese-Israeli Relationship celebrates the ever warmer relations between China and Israel, albeit, not exactly a love affair yet, there is mutual respect between the two ancient people, and robust cultural and trade exchanges.

THE GROWING CHINESE-ISRAELI RELATIONSHIP

By: Joseph Puder

China has become a major destination for Israeli tourists and businessmen. Sino-Israeli relations have expanded beyond trade and economics, and currently include a degree of military ties and robust cultural and academic exchanges.  Despite the fact that the political climate between Beijing and Jerusalem is far from warm, the technological marvel that Israel has become is attracting the attention of the Chinese Communist leaders.

The Jerusalem Post reported on August 22, 2012 that the Israeli firm "SDE Sea Wave Power Plants, is concluding construction on its second plant, in a series of three, for China, which will generate 150 kilowatts per hour using the energy of ocean waves, and will be followed by a third such plant that generates 500 kW per hour.  In recent days, SDE signed a $1.2 million agreement with its Chinese partners for the export of the second plant to Guangzhou, said SDE." Three weeks earlier, Chinese and Israeli officials signed an agreement on the second of two phases of a computational agriculture pilot project. The signing ceremony took place in Tel Aviv with Chinese officials and the executives of the Israeli company Agricultural Knowledge Online (AKOL).

When the Chinese Communist regime announced its latest Five-Year-Plan in 2011, it proclaimed to the world that China is no longer satisfied with being "the world's factory," and that it seeks to become one of the world's innovators.  To do that, China's leaders realized they must turn to the "Start Up" nation, which is the Jewish State of Israel. The Chinese are fully cognizant of the fact that neither the Arabs nor Iran (which provides them with raw energy) can provide them with innovative technology.

The Chinese government is currently on the wrong side of the Iran nuclear issue as far as Israel and the U.S. are concerned, and has had a long history of pro-Arab and pro-Palestinian posturing due to its dependence on Arab oil and as a legacy of the Cold War. Israel, on the other hand, is seen by China as part of the West and closely associated with the U.S. (in 1999 Israel gave in to U.S. pressure to cancel the sale to China of the Phalcon - a sophisticated reconnaissance aircraft and, in 2004 Israel stopped the repair of the Harpy laser-guided drones it had sold to China). The Chinese people however, admire the tenacity of the Jewish people and their survival against all odds.  They also marvel at the achievements of the Jewish State in spite of its small size.

China and Israel established diplomatic relations in January 1992 and are now marking 20 years of a growing relationship.  The bilateral trade between China and Israel stands at almost $10 billion, a 200-fold rise during these two decades. China is Israel's third largest export market, with sales of everything from telecommunications and information technology to agricultural hardware, solar energy equipment, and pharmaceuticals.  More than 1000 Israeli companies operate in China. Trade is clearly a two-way street, and Chinese companies have been offered to bid on Israeli government contracts. And, Israel is negotiating with Chinese companies over the building of a high speed rail system from Tel Aviv to Eilat.

Wishing the Chinese people a Happy Year of the Dragon, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared in March 2012:  "We are two ancient peoples whose values and traditions have left an indelible mark on humanity," and added, "But we are also two peoples embracing modernity; two dynamic civilizations transforming the world." China's ambassador to Israel, Gao Yanping, responded by saying, "As two ancient civilizations, we have a great deal in common. Both of us enjoy profound histories and splendid cultures."

In celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sino-Israeli diplomatic relations on January 24, 2012, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarks included the following: "Israel and China are a successful combination because we are peoples rooted in glorious traditions that also embrace the future. The rise of modern China is one of the most important events of our time, as is the rise of modern Israel. We will never forget the goodwill of the Chinese people who provided shelter for persecuted Jews in the darkest hours (referring to those Jews who escaped Germany and Eastern Europe during WW II and found refuge in Shanghai). Millennia-old societies provide a strong basis for future cooperation in many fields. I believe that Israel and China can act together to ensure peace in the Middle East."

Netanyahu continued: "I was pleased to hear that China has begun to reduce oil purchases from Iran. I appreciate China's need to ensure a regular supply of sources of energy in order to continue its impressive growth. I believe that it is possible to replace Iranian oil and I hope that the Chinese leadership will join the European countries and quickly act to completely halt purchases of Iranian oil. Bilateral ties are important to us; therefore, we are committed to expanding them quickly in a variety of fields. To this end, I have issued a sweeping directive to approve any invitation to visit China. We are also launching a project that will bring to Israel 250 Chinese students a year. A large number of Israelis have already begun to study Chinese." Approximately 3000 Kaifeng Chinese Jews live in Israel, and there were about 23,000Chinese workers in Israel in 2001

Hosting Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman in Beijing on March 16, 2012, China's Vice-President Xi Jinping called for "closer exchanges and cooperation with Israel, as well as for comprehensive and long-term peace between Israel and the Arab countries."  He also hailed the progress in Sino-Israeli relations, and called on both sides to "deepen political trust and boost friendly exchanges in order to further bilateral ties."

The Times of Israel reported on August 15, 2012 that three Chinese warships are in Port of Haifa as part of a four-day goodwill visit marking 20 years of Sino-Israeli diplomatic relations - the first time Chinese naval ships have ever docked in Israel. Three months ago, IDF Chief-of-Staff, Benny Gantz, visited China as part of an initiative to boost military relations.  It was the first visit of an IDF chief since 1968, and was aimed at strengthening ties amid Beijing's growing interests in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. A year before, on May 25, 2011, the commander of the Chinese Navy Admiral Wu Shengli was on an official visit to Israel hosted by his Israeli counterpart Rear Admiral Eliezer Marom, nicknamed "Chin," for his Chinese decent, and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

Israel appreciates the importance of China not only in the economic sphere but its culture as well.  Israel and Israelis are beginning to recognize the elaborate tapestry that is China. Chinese language courses were recently introduced in the academic curriculum in a number of Israeli elementary and high schools.

China's University of International Business Economics (UIBE) is offering its students the opportunity to study the development of Israel's economy, its high-tech and business culture, the political aspects of its economy and trade, as well as learn about key figures in Israel's economic history. The university president, Shi Jianjun said about Israel: "The Chinese are very impressed with Israel's economy and believe it's a model." And, at the University of Foreign Affairs in Beijing the first class of 16 students has completed studies in Hebrew language and culture. Another 40 students are currently studying Hebrew at the university, while another dozen or so learn Hebrew in other Chinese universities.

Israel has clearly become an increasing object of interest for the Chinese as trade between the two countries grows, and as mutual admiration flourishes between these two distinct cultures. What is still missing, however, are stronger political relations.

Muslims Try to Rewrite Themselves Into America's History

posted on September 3, 2012 by Tad Cronn

The Jumah at the DNC event went off Friday without a hitch, but the Democratic leadership and liberal media are still trying to squirm out of acknowledging that the DNC ever sanctioned the program, which featured a number of Islamist extremists.

Although there is a lot of spin surrounding the event, the fact remains that the leaders of the Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs claim the DNC reached out to them and invited their group to host the two-hour opening event Friday, as well as the officially sanctioned Islamic Regal Dinner that night.

The event appeared on the official Charlotte in 2012 website until it was removed after the radical nature of BIMA got out. The event was attended by hundreds, rather than the 20,000 predicted.

Among the speakers at the event were a retired Muslim Army chaplain who was charged with sedition but not prosecuted, and an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

But the issue that really rankles many people is BIMA's support of theories about the Muslim influence on American history, including the notion that a Muslim crew of explorers sailed up the Mississippi River in the 12th century and established a colony that entitles Muslims to call themselves indigenous Americans.

Real Native Americans are not pleased.

Prized Guests Slam Iranian Policies

International Conference Seen as Showcase for Tehran Turns Sour as Egypt's Leader, U.N. Chief Criticize Host's Stances

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad greets President Mohammed Morsi of Egypt in Tehran Thursday. (A Judas Kiss Moment if ever there was - Dave)

By FARNAZ FASSIHI August 30, 2012

BEIRUT-Two of Iran's honored guests at the official opening of an international conference intended by Tehran to showcase its global stature slammed the Islamic Republic's policies on Syria, Iran's top ally in the region, and Israel, its No. 1 foe.

Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi, in a speech to the annual meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which brought leaders of more than 120 nations to Iran, caused a stir by calling Syria's regime oppressive and devoid of legitimacy.

The comment was a direct rebuke to Iran, which is aiding the Syrian leadership in its military crackdown against rebels.  "The bloodshed in Syria is the responsibility of all of us and will not stop until there is real intervention to stop it. The Syrian crisis is bleeding our hearts," Mr. Morsi said, in his first foreign-policy speech at an international venue.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also blamed Syria's regime for reacting to peaceful protests with "ruthless force," and called on the regime to take responsibility for ending the violence.

Syria and Israel make the backbone of Tehran's foreign policy. Mr. Ban also offered harsh words for Iran's stand toward Israel. "I strongly reject threats by any member state to destroy another or outrageous attempts to deny historical facts such as the Holocaust," he said in his speech at the conference.

Mr. Ban also called on Iran to cooperate more openly with the international community on its nuclear program and comply with U.N. Security Council resolutions. On Wednesday, he criticized Iran's human-rights record, and brought up the issue in a meeting with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sitting nearby during the speeches, frowned as he listened to the speeches by Messrs. Morsi and Ban. Mr. Ahmadinejad has threatened Israel and questioned accounts of the Holocaust.  "We should all express our full support to the struggle of those who are demanding freedom and justice in Syria." Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi

The conference, which began with meetings on Sunday and closes Friday, offered Iran an opportunity to mend its image as an isolated and sanctioned country. But problems arose once the guests arrived, as Iran tried to script the conference to its own advantage only to have dignitaries stray from its narrative.

Iranian media, which had touted Mr. Morsi's visit as a diplomatic coup that could signal a shift in improving Egypt-Iran relations, censored his speech. The simultaneous interpreter at the conference first stumbled then refrained from translating Mr. Morsi's comments on Syria.

Only a few Iranian websites published the full speech. One called Mr. Morsi an "immature and new diplomat." Iran and Egypt haven't had diplomatic relations since Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979. "The bloodshed in Syria is the responsibility of all of us and will not stop until there is real intervention to stop it.'" Mr. Morsi

Syria's delegation walked out of the conference room during the speech. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem, in an interview with Iran's Arabic news channel Al Alam, said Mr. Morsi had violated the summit's principles by meddling in another country's affairs.

Mr. Morsi also praised the four caliphs of Sunni Islam at the start of his speech, an unusual evocation by an Arab leader. Iranians interpreted the comments as a jab at the Islamic Republic, a Shiite theocracy that doesn't recognize the first three caliphs as legitimate

Between the Muslim woman who is suing Disney over her insistence on wearing Islamic head garb on the job, the Muslim Wegmans cashiers who refuse to check out pork products, the Minneapolis taxi drivers who refused to drive people carrying bottles of alcohol, and now Maj. Nidal Hasan's ridiculous claim that he refuses to shave his beard because his religion requires it, even though he carried out his murderous suicide mission without one, we must ask the question: WHEN WILL WE STOP DEFERRING TO THESE CHARLATANS WHO ONLY TROT OUT ISLAMIC REQUIREMENTS WHEN IT SERVES TO PUBLICLY TRUMP SECULAR SOCIETY?

There are plenty of Muslim women who do not cover their heads, plenty of Muslim taxi drivers who carry people with bottles of alcohol (especially because Muslims are only forbidden to DRINK alcohol), and plenty of clean-shaven Muslims, and yet Muslims expect secular society to override rules made for EVERYONE in order to demonstrate Islam's supremacy.  Tactics such as these are all described in the Reliance of the Traveller's section on Jihad, located on page 599 of the PDF link provided in Saturday's "Super Short-Course on Islamic Law" email.

It's time to stop playing their games.  Really.  It's all BS.

In the case of Hasan, his refusal to shave his beard is just another one of his delaying tactics, which has already managed to postpone his trial for years.  What he reveals is not his own piety, but his contempt for American justice and his manipulation of our society's desire to treat all religions with respect.  If this is what his religion teaches him to do, it's not worthy of respect.

Dave

PS: Fellow-patriot Dorrie O'Brian replied to Saturday's "Super Short-Course on Islamic Law" email and suggested that people who prefer to read physical books can buy Reliance of the Traveller from Amazon.com for about $22 used àhttp://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Traveller-Classic-Manual-Islamic/dp/0915957728/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1346548204&sr=1-1&keywords=reliance+of+the+traveller . The only caution I would add is to beware of buying the book new.  Doing so would send money back to the publisher, and if you're like me, the only way an Islamist would ever get a nickel from you is by prying it from your cold dead hands.  You may also want to make sure that the seller of the used book doesn't have an Islamic name or motif.

Hood Shooting Suspect Fights for Beard

Aug 31, 2012 Associated Press| by Angela K. Brown

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The U.S. Army psychiatrist charged in a deadly shooting rampage told a judge Thursday that he grew a beard because his Muslim faith requires it, not as a show of disrespect.

Maj. Nidal Hasan spoke in court for the first time since showing up with a beard in violation of Army regulations in June. The judge, Col. Gregory Gross, has threatened to have him forcibly shaved. His lawyers argue that shaving would violate his religious freedoms.

"In the name of almighty Allah, I am a Muslim," Hasan said. "I believe my religion requires me to wear a beard."

Hasan faces the death penalty if convicted in the November 2009 attack that killed 13 and wounded more than two dozen at a Texas Army post.

The pretrial hearing was the first since a military appeals court stopped proceedings Aug. 15 to consider the dispute over Hasan's beard. Gross held Hasan in contempt of court and fined him $1,000 for a sixth time Thursday, again sending him to a nearby room to watch the proceedings on closed-circuit television.

"I am not trying to disrespect your authority as a judge," Hasan said before his latest removal. "When I stand before God, I am individually responsible for my actions," he said, apparently referring to the beard.

But Gross said he will order a forcible shaving next week. According to military regulations, soldiers who disobey orders to be clean-shaven can be forcibly shaved. Gross has said he wants Hasan in the courtroom during the court-martial to prevent a possible appeal over the beard if Hasan is convicted.

An order for forcible shaving will delay the case again because Hasan's attorneys can appeal before a decision is made on whether he'll be forcibly shaved, the judge said.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces ruled that Hasan's appeal was premature because Gross has not issued a definitive order for Hasan to be forcibly shaved.

Hasan's attorneys have said Hasan wouldn't shave because he had a premonition that his death is imminent, and doesn't want to die beardless because he believes not having one is a sin. Prosecutors have said they don't believe that religion is Hasan's motive, noting he was clean-shaven at the time of the shootings.

U.S. suspends training for some Afghan recruits after 'insider' attacks

By NBC News staff September 2, 2012

KABUL, Afghanistan -- United States military officials have suspended the training of Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the wake of a deadly series of so-called 'green on blue' attacks by Afghan soldiers and police on their international allies.

In a statement late Saturday, Col. Thomas Collins, US Forces Afghanistan spokesperson, said the training has been put on hold in order to carry out intensified vetting procedures on new recruits, and 16,000 existing ALP recruits will be re-vetted.

"While we have full trust and confidence in our Afghan partners, we believe this is a necessary step to validate our vetting process and ensure the quality indicative of Afghan Local Police," he said in the statement.

...Forty-five allied troops have been killed in 34 'insider' attacks this year alone. The Afghan army is implicated in 19 of those attacks, but their training will not be halted.

 Highlights From the RNC

August 31, 2012

"Unequivocal in principle, reasonable in manner, we shall be able I hope to do a great deal of good to the cause of freedom & harmony." --Thomas Jefferson
2012-08-31-digest

In a hurricane-shortened week in Tampa, the Republican National Convention featured the theme of "We Built It," a rebuttal to Barack Obama's infamous admonition that "you didn't build that." Speaker after speaker went to the heart of a matter that is hardly "petty," as some leftists have charged. Barack Obama's remarks last month in Roanoke, Virginia, were unscripted, and thus revealed the deep-seated contempt he has for America's innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators. This great nation was built from the ground up, and Republicans want voters to remember that in November.

To bolster that message, the convention hall featured a debt clock showing the shockingly fast pace at which our national debt approached and exceeded $16 trillion. Of course, this is thanks to the reckless "stimulus" spending of Democrats, but Republicans bear plenty of blame, as well. Spendthrift policies have wrought economic damage far outstripping anything done by Hurricane Isaac, or even Katrina seven years ago, which the media fondly recollected this week at every opportunity. Headline unemployment is still over 8 percent -- tens of millions of Americans are out of work or underemployed and businesses simply aren't hiring as the Left's carefully designed "fiscal cliff" approaches. Nearly half a trillion in scheduled tax increases will have that effect. Call it Hurricane Barack, if you will.

The Republican plan is to stop, limit and even roll back that government growth, as well as halt the pending tax increases -- even to lower them further -- all of which is exactly what the nation needs to enjoy an actual, Reaganesque, recovery.

With that said, here are a few of our favorite quotes from a handful of the numerous speeches.

Mitt Romney: "How many days have you woken up feeling that something really special was happening in America? Many of you felt that way on Election Day four years ago. Hope and Change had a powerful appeal. But tonight I'd ask a simple question: If you felt that excitement when you voted for Barack Obama, shouldn't you feel that way now that he's President Obama?"

"The president has disappointed America because he hasn't led America in the right direction. He took office without the basic qualification that most Americans have and one that was essential to his task. He had almost no experience working in a business. Jobs to him are about government."

"The centerpiece of the president's entire re-election campaign is attacking success. Is it any wonder that someone who attacks success has led the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression? In America, we celebrate success, we don't apologize for it."

Paul Ryan: "When I was waiting tables, washing dishes, or mowing lawns for money, I never thought of myself as stuck in some station in life. I was on my own path, my own journey, an American journey where I could think for myself, decide for myself, define happiness for myself. That's what we do in this country. That's the American Dream. That's freedom, and I'll take it any day over the supervision and sanctimony of the central planners."

"College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life."

"Sometimes even presidents need reminding that our rights come from nature and God, and not from government."

Friday Afternoon Roundup - And Now the News

BUT FIRST A LITTLE NEWS

I have been asked to run the Freedom Center's blog "The Point" at Front Page Magazine. You can see the latest stories from "The Point" to the right of you. Hopefully you'll click on some of them for a closer look.

"The Point" will be something like the roundups, but it will have more of a point to it and there will be plenty of overlaps. And Be'ezrat Hashem it will be a way of getting some of the materials you see here out to a larger audience. If you have any suggestions for the future of the Roundup or the Point, the comments are open.

For by Thee I run upon a troop; and by my God do I scale a wall. (Psalms 18:30)

THE MACHINE

The most impressive thing about RNC 2012 was the smoothness of the entire thing. If the 2008 RNC stumbled, but ran on enthusiasm, the 2012 edition was a polished frictionless machine, except for one awkward moment with Eastwood, and even that seemed geared to give the critics something petty to pick apart that would not reflect badly on Mitt Romney and the Republican Party.

Mitt Romney is a machine politician, but not a politician of the political machine. He appears to excel at building a smoothly running machine around him. It's not high praise and yet it's not counter to the impression that he gives. It reflects his message that he takes charge and builds things that work.

Behind all the speeches and showpieces, RNC 2012 is a reflection of Romney's whole campaign, it is the precisely calculated work of people who know what they are doing, who don't always get it right, but have ability, ambition and even some guts.

Romney's people went into this understanding that Obama and his allies would run on destroying him as a man, on making him into an ugly caricature, a running joke, a bad human being. And they worked to make that pitch as hard as possible to sell. They knew that the Democrats would focus on the white female vote, so they beat them to it. It's not a new game, Reagan played it too, but it's gone up to a new level.

Some wanted this event to hit Obama much harder. But it hit him hard enough. What it really did was make Romney much harder to hit. Romney's people understand that common sense is on their side and that their mission is to defang the negative attacks from the media that will make people feel bad or guilty about following their common sense. And they did a pretty good job of that tonight.

And the guts kicked in when they picked their battles. It would have made sense for Romney to dodge Bain and for Ryan to avoid Medicare, instead they turned around, picked up both issues and ran on them, and rammed them back into Obama's teeth. It's gutsy, but there's also a common sense element to it. If you're going to get attacked remorselessly on an issue, then you might as well own the issue and use it to send a message to your opponent that the attacks will hurt him as much as you.

That's what RNC 2012 did.

Romney ran in the primaries as the most electable candidate, not by virtue of any special ability, but on determination and competence. RNC 2012 reflected that. It's the work of people who are determined to win and who play hard. That may not be enough, but it's a harder run for his money than Obama got last time around.

How Branding Sold America on Obama

Posted: 01 Sep 2012 07:37 PM PDT

Hopey - Changy - Bullcrap What's the difference between a president and a can of Pepsi? When it comes to winning elections, the answer is very little. The 2008 election was not about issues, it was about image. Not just the image of the candidate, but the image of his brand.

In marketing terms, a brand is not just a label, it's the way that the customer is meant to perceive the product and interact with it. Take the can of Pepsi. It doesn't matter what's actually in the can, you don't have access to the full list of ingredients anyway. And if you did, it would take extensive research to even make sense of them. It's not even about how the actual soda tastes. That matters, but not very much. All that really matters is how the customer perceives the brand. It's not about the content. It's only about how people view the brand.

Democrats Air Frustrations with Obama 'Cockiness'

by Ezra Dulis

President Obama's competitive, boastful nature and condescending advice rubs even loyal Democrats the wrong way, a new profile alleges.

The New York Times' Jodi Kantor airs complaints from "loyal" Obama associates -- not as a buried lede but explicitly in her introduction:

He has mentioned more than once in recent weeks that he cooks "a really mean chili." He has impressive musical pitch, he told an Iowa audience. He is "a surprisingly good pool player," he informed an interviewer - not to mention (though he does) a doodler of unusual skill.

Leading From Behind: Empty Chair To Visit Louisiana On Monday

by Tony Lee

Hours after Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney visited Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac on Friday, White House press secretary Jay Carney announced President Barack Obama would call an audible in his schedule and visit Louisiana on Monday to assess the storm's damage.

Obama's leading-from-behind reaction to Romney's visit reaffirmed Clint Eastwood's empty chair analogy, which upset the mainstream media, the iconic actor used Thursday night at the Republican National Convention when discussing Obama and his presidency.

Only 26% of Officers Say Army Headed In Right Direction--'Political Correctness' Cited
By Patrick Burke
CNSNews.com
Is the U.S. Army headed in the right direction? An internal Army survey that was conducted in 2011 and published this year discovered that only 26 percent of active-duty Army officers say yes--and that one of the two main themes cited by those who say no is that the Army is now adversely impacted by "political correctness" imposed by both outside policymakers and senior Army leaders.

Why is the New York Times, Nate Silver apoplectic over a local poll from Michigan?

Sep 03, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Last week we got a report on a  Mitchell poll from Michigan that has the New York Times swinging off the rafters. The Grey Lady got so apoplectic over the results because they showed Mitt Romney and Barack Obama tied at 47/47 in Michigan.

Writing his rebuttal to this "outrage" the Times' Nate Silver cited another poll that upon closer review provides virtually the same results.  Silver's new best friends at the Lansing-based EPIC-MRA polling company say Obama leads 49/46 with a 2.6 +/- Margin of Error which is all but the same thing. That the EPIC-MRA poll conducted in July showed Obama leading Romney in Michigan by 48%-42% didn't seem significant enough for to the Times to mention.

In his report the EPIC-MRA pollster Bernie Porn ( yes that's his real name) said Romney leads by 13 points among Independent voters just 48/47 among men and trailed by only ... Continue Reading:Why is the New York Times, Nate Silver apoplectic over a local poll from Michigan?

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Imperial Japan had one of the largest maritime empires in world history.
In 1910, Imperial Japan annexed Korea, and in 1918 took control of Russian ports in Siberia.
In 1937, Imperial Japan's Army killed over 200,000 in Nanking, China. In 1941, over 3,000 Americans died when Imperial Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
In 1942, over 20,000 Americans and Filipinos died on Bataan's Death March, where starving prisoners were marched 65 miles in heat and jungles to a disease infested camp.
By 1945, over 100,000 died retaking Okinawa and Pacific islands. Democrat President Harry S Truman made the controversial decision August 6, 1945, to drop the Atomic Bomb, which is estimated to have prevented an additional one million casualties on both sides.
On SEPTEMBER 2, 1945, Emperor Hirohito's Imperial forces officially surrendered aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay.
An interesting story occurred after the war ended.

The Democrat National Convention as seen through The Gospel of Saint Mark

Sep 02, 2012 01:07 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

By any measure Republicans are more religious than Democrats. By almost 3 to 2 Republicans believe the bible is the word of God.

In short Democrats favor G. O. V. over G. O. D. because G. O. V. tells them that whatever they do is fine as long as they vote Democrat. By contrast G. O. D. has all of these "Thou Shalt nots and Thou Shalts to deal with that mess up a "great weekend." G. O. V.'s "good book" is Us Magazine which is filled with great stories about who is sleeping with whose wife and Barney Frank marrying his boy toy.   G.O.D.'s book is very different but nonetheless descriptive of our everyday as it ought to be.

Speaking of Jesus St. Mark wrote words that are especially powerful in view of the array of representatives of the grotesque who will address the delegates to Democrat National Convention.  He ... Continue Reading:The Democrat National Convention as seen through The Gospel of Saint Mark

To Obama SEAL Team Six's sacrifices were worthy of only a form letter

Sep 01, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Jim Emerson, staff writer

Last year American warriors were killed when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by the Taliban during combat operations in Afghanistan. The Helicopter was carrying U.S. Navy SEALs to assist an U.S. Army Ranger unit that was under heavy fire from insurgents in the mountainous region of the Wardak province. Their mission was to help capture a senior Taliban leader, but it went terribly wrong. Thirty (30) U.S. troops died that day making it the single largest loss of American troops in the Afghanistan war. The team consisted of U.S. Army Rangers and 17 warriors from Navy Seal Team Six, that same team that killed Osama bin Laden.  None of those killed were involved in that operation.

Americans were shocked and sadden by the incident and President Barack Obama offered his thoughts and prayers for the Americans killed that day.  In a statement issued at the time, Mr. Obama wrote "Their ... Continue Reading:To Obama SEAL Team Six's sacrifices were worthy of only a form letter

American Minute August 31

Aug 31, 2012 06:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Imprisoned twelve years for preaching without a license from the King, he wrote Pilgrim's Progress, an allegory of a man named Christian fleeing the City of Destruction and directed by Evangelist to follow a narrow path to the City of Zion.
The friends and dangers he meets along the way inspired the modern story Wizard of Oz.
This classic was written by John Bunyan, who died AUGUST 31, 1688.
It was translated into over a hundred languages and found in nearly every colonial American home.
Mark Twain alluded to it in the title of his book, "Innocents Abroad, or the New Pilgrim's Progress," as did C.S. Lewis in his 1933 book, "Pilgrim's Regress."
Ronald Reagan, greeting Australia's Prime Minister, June 30, 1981, said:

RNC's women spoke of love for family and America the DNC will answer with "The vagina monologues"

Aug 31, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The Republican National Convention featured strong women reverently proclaiming God has blessed America and our need to follow His grace back to where He wants us to be.

The wholesomeness of the real America was highlighted by the many good decent women who rose to speak. We heard women who are governors a former cabinet member and loving wives tell us they understand the threat the current administration is to real America. These Republican women showed America they understand personal matters are to be kept personal; love of country is their open passion.

The RNC celebrated  real families with strong women who are part of real families who love and protect children. In contrast the Democrat National Convention will give us a three day "Vagina Monologues" celebrating the most grotesque of the Left's positions.

The DNC will give us a lesbian, an abortionist, a condom queen, a phony "Catholic" a women who ... Continue Reading:RNC's women spoke of love for family and America the DNC will answer with "The vagina monologues"

A just released survey conducted for Generation Opportunity (G.O) among Florida's Millennials (the term for 18 to 29 year olds) says they are very dissatisfied with the economy given to them by governmental policies over the past four years.  While 71% say they will be voting in November just 34% think today's political leaders represent their interests.

The G.O. survey was done by inc./WomanTrend (i/WT) who interviewed 524 young Floridians randomly chosen from online opt-in respondents invited to make themselves heard via a secure link to a questionnaire they were sent. Quotas were established to insure proper representation of all racial regional and gender groups, and i/WT claims a 4.4 +/- margin of error.

By Bill Federer, staff writer

One of America's greatest generals for capturing Fort Ticonderoga with Ethan Allen and leading the charge at Saratoga, he felt unappreciated, so AUGUST 30, 1780, General Benedict Arnold conspired with British General Clinton to surrender West Point for 20,000 pounds, equivalent to one million dollars today.
The British courier was Major John Andre, who had met Arnold's wife in Philadelphia.
As Andre tried to cross to the British lines, he was searched, found with the blue prints for West Point in his boot and executed.
Arnold escaped on the ship Vulture. George Washington wrote September 26, 1780:
"Treason of the blackest dye was yesterday discovered! General Arnold who commanded at West Point, was about to...give the American cause a deadly wound if not fatal stab...
Its discovery affords the most convincing proof that the Liberties of America are the object of divine Protection."

Clinton's old team showing us that Romney is moving toward victory

Aug 30, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins Both Dick Morris and James Carville have released polling data that points to a Mitt Romney victory in November. Although they have gone their separate ways, in the 1990s they were both important members of Bill Clinton's successful political machine. While Carville's Democracy Corps has found Barack Obama leading Romney by a slim 49/47 - a two point improvement for Romney over their last poll-, the sample universe over surveys Democrats by 6 points with a D-R-I breakdown of 38/32/28.     There are very positive items here: the 38/32 Republican/Democrat Party identification split sharply contrasts with the 34.9/34 Republican to Democrat split reported by Rasmussen who also reports a 31% Independent identification.     This is important because Democracy Corps's (DC) numbers show Romney enjoys a 15 point lead among Independents, but DC's 28 point Independent sample is 3 points short of Rasmussen's findings. When Obama took the 2008 election by 7 points ... Continue Reading:Clinton's old team showing us that Romney is moving toward victory

Obama's birthday: When should we celebrate; let me count the days

Sep 02, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

Barack Obama has so many named birthdays he and his staff can't keep them all straight.  A new youtube.com video is showing us just how comical Obama's equivocation about being born and where it happened really is.  The video's title: "Obama Doesn't Know When He Was Born" may be more truth than confusion as a bewildered America still is waiting for answers to the man's true nativity narrative.

The video opens with a shot of  Obama saying, "I'll be turning 50 in a week," a  narrator then points out  the  Certificate of Live Birth released by the White House in April, 2011, points to a birthday date of three weeks later!  "His birthday fluctuated erratically on his Facebook page by his getting four years younger" in his 2010 born again celebration says youtube.  But a My Space page that has been completely scrubbed of all Obama birth date references once ... James Madison continued:

DNC delegates will jump up and cheer Carter's speech believing he makes Obama look good

Sep 01, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

As the song goes, "When you've got nothing you've got nothing to lose" and DNC delegates might be thinking this when Jimmy Carter video addresses them.

The delegates will cheer wildly because he will be changing the subject from the hideous parade of out of step misfits on their speakers list to something NBC can crow about. Carter will be warmly greeted because they think his economic failures make Obamanomics look good.

When his dreary speech promoting Barack Obama, who will replace him as the worst president in American history, is over they will jump to their feet. The halfwits won't care about  his 18% mortgage rates or blocks long gas lines.  Democrats live in a bizarre fantasy world where failure is cheered and success is mocked.

Carter, the man Democrats will cheer has always been attracted to the worst anti-American underside of the Left. He has/had a warm personal ... Continue Reading:DNC delegates will jump up and cheer Carter's speech believing he makes Obama look good

Obama Has Finally Found A Way To Combine Death And Taxes

Obama is a genius. This time, he's figured out how to make you less safe, raise your expenses, limit your choices and satisfy his environmental friends all at once...by turning his attention to what kind of car you drive!

Maybe you drive a larger vehicle because you need the extra room; perhaps it makes you feel safer on the road, or maybe you just like the features it offers. We don't really care; and our point is, neither should the government.

But Obama has now quietly signed into law a new environmental regulation that will add at least $2,000 to the cost of each vehicle you purchase, and will force auto manufacturers to make cars smaller and less safe on our roadways.

Fax Congress Now!

On Tuesday, while you were going about your business and paying attention to Hurricane Isaac and the Republican National Convention, Obama enacted his new "car tax," which he describes as "historic."

It's historic, all right. The government is now in charge of what we drive.

What Obama has done is tinker with Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, a plan that will cost up to $157 billion in the push to double the fuel efficiency of cars by 2025.

What it is, in fact, is a giant regulatory burden and "green" initiative that will interfere with our free market, punish businesses and limit consumer choice.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) put a statement on his panel's website, "The rule finalized today by the Obama Administration will hurt American consumers by forcing them to drive more expensive and less safe automobiles. The Administration drafted these standards in secret, strong-arming automakers and short-circuiting the deliberative regulatory process to achieve a purely political result, abandoning sound science and objectivity to appease its political allies in the extreme environmentalist lobby."

Fax Congress Now!

And, Join the Conversation on Facebook

The current CAFE standard is 30.2mpg; Obama's new rule will require automakers to reach 55.4mpg. He says it will save consumers money. Whenever the government claims it has done a calculation that will save you money, hide your wallet.

But worse yet, studies over the past decade have shown that these new fuel efficiency standards are expensive and deadly.

The liberal party of death must figure if going green means losing a few lives so be it. Consider the evidence against previous CAFE standards, not taking into account the new, more punitive and aggressive ones Obama just jammed through:

  • Sam Kazman at the Competitive Enterprise Institute: "The National Academy of Sciences...issued a report last August finding that CAFE contributes to between 1,300 and 2,600 traffic deaths per year."
  • USA Today: "size and weight reductions of passenger vehicles undertaken to meet current CAFE standards had resulted in more than 46,000 deaths."
  • H. Sterling Burnett of the National Center for Policy Analysis: "322 additional deaths per year occur as a direct result of reducing just 100 pounds from already downsized small cars."
  • National Academy of Sciences' auto fuel-economy study: "larger, heavier cars are more crashworthy than similarly equipped small cars, and CAFE restricts the production of those safer cars for the sake of fuel economy."

Michelle Malkin says, "CAFE fuel standards clamp down on the production of larger, more crashworthy cars...CAFE kills."

Fax Congress Now!

And, Join the Conversation on Facebook

Last year when Obama announced his intention to change standards, Issa warned, "Beyond jobs that would be lost as a result of this rule, there are concerns that these new regulations were crafted in a manner inconsistent with laws and basic standards of transparency that had the effect of hiding special interest agendas."

He was rightly concerned that the Obama administration tends to do things behind closed doors. Remember Carol Browner, former Obama climate czar, told auto industry executives "to put nothing in writing, ever" when she was working backroom deals drafting these standards.

Of course Obama says "it's good for middle class families"-ignoring the fact that these very people will have to pay thousands more for each vehicle and they may not want to buy the kind of car Obama tells them they should buy. (Chevy Volt, anyone?)

Remember, Obama knows what is good for you. If you have a family, you didn't build that. He did, and he'll tell you how to run it.

But you can't say he didn't warn us. He said, "You can't drive your SUV's, or eat what you want, or keep your thermostat at 72 degrees, and then expect other countries will just say O.K."

So I guess we should lock up our pantries and hide our thermostats, because he's probably coming for those things next.

The dictator in the White House has no business regulating consumers into poverty and oppression. He has consistently inserted himself into the free market and is regulating us to death...literally.

Tony Adkins

Heritage Foundation Morning Bell

We Can Change America's Course

Entering the final stretch of the presidential contest, Americans are facing a monumental choice. The American people will decide the direction of government and its role in their lives for the coming years.

The debate in Tampa this week raised a number of issues, including preserving the American dream of working hard to achieve success. The Heritage Foundation has extensive research and policy prescriptions on each of these issues:

Energy: America needs to end energy subsidies and restore a free market in the energy sector. We can and should develop our domestic energy sources in an environmentally responsible way. Go to Energy & Environment

School choice: America's education focus should be our students. The best way to serve the needs of a diverse population is to give families the freedom to choose a school-public, private, charter, or home school-that best fits their children's needs. See where your state stands

Free trade: America needs jobs, and promoting free trade is an excellent way to create high-quality jobs in America. We should have a free flow of goods, services, and investments between democratic nations. Catch up on the U.S. free trade record

The federal budget: Tackling the federal budget is a complex task, but it must be done. Heritage's Saving the American Dream plan details ideas for reforming major entitlement programs, permanently balancing the budget, and reducing the national debt. See the Heritage plan

Tax reform: America's families and businesses need tax relief. A tax cut here and there isn't enough; we need fundamental tax reform. A tax system that is simple and fair would spur economic growth and protect those at the bottom of the income ladder. How it could be done

Repealing Obamacare: Obamacare doesn't stop with government intrusion into your relationship with your doctor. It also raises taxes, adds to the U.S. deficit, and attacks religious and personal freedoms. Top 5 Reasons to Repeal Obamacare

Reforming Medicare: Medicare reform is not an option-it is a necessity. To keep the program working for those it is designed to help, we should give seniors more control over their health care decisions and guarantee better access to quality care. The way forward for Medicare

Next week, the debate will continue in Charlotte, and more policy issues may enter the mix.

There's no way to predict how the election will turn out. But as Heritage's Matt Spalding has written, "it will be a turning point in American history: Either our leaders will guide the country even further along the road to 'progressivism' or they will begin a long, slow turn back toward the principles of the American Founding."

"The federal government has acquired an all but unquestioned dominance over virtually every area of American life," Spalding says. "It acts without constitutional limits and is restricted only by expediency, political will, and (less and less) budget constraints."

The Heritage Foundation recently published Changing America's Course, which gives our political leaders recommendations on how to stay within the limits of the Constitution.

To put America on a path toward preserving and growing freedom, Spalding says, "The first step is to reduce the size and scope of government and unleash the engines of economic productivity and the institutions of cultural renewal."

It is possible to change America's course.

Willie Brown's Mea Culpa

Posted: 03 Sep 2012 09:51 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

I occasionally click through to Willie Brown's rambling column in the San Francisco Chronicle-he's obviously trying to channel or emulate the format of the legendary Herb Caen-in large part because I always regarded Brown as the smartest and most able politician in America during his heyday as Speaker of the California State Assembly.  He flummoxed Republicans at every turn (and several ethics investigations, too, if you believe the rumors).

Today he doesn't think much of Eastwooding, but then there's this interesting paragraph on public employee unions:

As reforms go, the pension deal that Sacramento lawmakers reached last week is just a start to correct the mistakes that former lawmakers, including me, have made over the years.

But for all the talk about how the changes were needed to make the governor's tax plan more palatable to voters this fall, the fact is that lawmakers bucked the unions for one reason and one reason only: They want to keep their jobs.

The unions are really bent out of shape because they weren't allowed in the room during the negotiations, as they usually are. But why should they be in the room?

The world is changing. Years ago it was the likes of Southern Pacific and other big businesses calling the shots in Sacramento, and we were all highly critical of them.

These days it's labor. That's not the portrayal union leaders like to see in the media, but it's the truth.

Real reform would be barring labor leaders from sitting on state pension boards. The boards ought to be made up of money managers who are concerned with how much cash is going in and out of the fund. There is no justification for any trustee on a pension board being more interested in spreading benefits than paying for them.   (Emphasis added.)

Willie better start checking for a horse's head in his basement (or tailor's dressing room more likely).

Groundhog Day Almost Over For Europe?

Posted: 03 Sep 2012 08:09 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

I've given up following the Eurozone crisis on a daily basis-as has much of the media it seems-because it has settled into Groundhog Day territory.  Greece-still a basket case.  Spain-still having trouble selling its bonds.  Italy and France-still behaving irresponsibly.  Germany: cough up more dough you tight-fisted Teutonic bastards.  How long can this circus go on?  It's been going on for better than two years now at least, and perhaps the crisis might well be patched up for a long while yet.

But not forever, and the end of "forever" may be coming into sight.  Germany has finally gotten France over the last few weeks to tell the Greeks that "No" really means "NO" about further bailouts.  The New York Times reports ominously that more and more multinational companies are beginning to prepare for Greece to exit from the Euro.  This sounds really serious:

Bank of America Merrill Lynch has looked into filling trucks with cash and sending them over the Greek border so clients can continue to pay local employees and suppliers in the event money is unavailable. Ford has configured its computer systems so they will be able to immediately handle a new Greek currency.

Walter Russell Mead offers a good roundup of the scene this morning, including this warning about Spain:

Meanwhile, Spain's situation continues to deteriorate, with the country visibly spiraling toward some kind of bailout. Any new funding from the ECB will come with much tougher conditions than the easy funding that got Spain (and Europe) through the summer without a meltdown. . .

But the real ground zero of the Eurozone crisis may be shifting to France:

But without any doubt, the worst news is coming from France. It's not that France is headed down the tubes like the PIIGS. Yet. But with a major French bank (Credit Immobilier de France) needing a bailout, unemployment rising above the psychologically crucial 3 million mark, and a stubbornly high budget deficit despite a round of tax hikes and spending cuts, things are not looking good. And as Businessweek reports, bond investors are showing early signs of skittishness. French debt currently earns only about a two percent interest rate; it wouldn't take much for investors to push those yields above 4 or even 5 percent if perceptions of Europe and France continue to deteriorate. France has benefited from a "safe haven" perception, but that perception looks vulnerable to the autumn storms that now seem to be sweeping toward the EU.

This may explain why France has joined the Germans in telling the Greeks that the game is over for them.  The French had been playing something of a double game up to this point, but even the new French socialist government may be starting to get the message that they're in deep deep trouble themselves.  Dan Mitchell offers additional observations in his indispensible blog.  Both Mitchell and Mead say the thing to watch is French bond rates.  If they spike like Spain and Italy, the next inflection point of the Eurozone crisis will be at hand.

What might set this off?  Hmmm-how about the prospect that Obama is re-elected?

National Empty Chair Day

I tell ya, that Eastwood guy started something.  Wish I didn't have to catch a plane back to Washington today, or I'd be talking to empty chairs and checking out the local scene.  The empty chair bids to become a better political statement than the old fashioned lawn sign. Can we get a clever bumper sticker from somewhere?  Enjoy:

Muslim Persecution of Christians, July 2012

Posted: 03 Sep 2012 07:29 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

At the Middle East Forum, Raymond Ibrahim continues his series on Muslim persecution of Christians around the world. It is remarkable how many such instances occur, even though, as Ibrahim says, he provides only a sampling. Ibrahim is doing a great service with his monthly compilations. We can only hope that somewhere, policymakers and voters are paying attention.

This is how Ibrahim sums up the month of July:

Several reports appearing in July indicate that Christian minorities all around the Muslim world-especially women and children-are being abducted, tortured, raped, forced to convert to Islam, and/or enslaved.

In Egypt, at least 550 such cases have been documented in the last five years, and have only increased since the revolution. Christians who manage to escape back to their families often find the government siding with their Muslim abductors. One young mother who recently testified before the Helsinki Commission explained how she was snatched in broad daylight, as her abductor shouted to bystanders while dragging her to a waiting taxi, "No one interfere! She is an enemy of Islam."

Identical reports are emerging from Pakistan, where "persecution, kidnapping and abduction of Christian women and girls," including many married women with children, are on the rise. Last year the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said that 1800 Christian and Hindu girls were forcibly converted to Islam. Most recently, the sister of a pastor was "kidnapped raped and forcibly converted to Islam." She "was kidnapped around a month ago by some Muslim men while returning home from college. She was held for days, suffered sexual abuse, threats and violence. In such a state of terror and exhaustion, first she was coerced into converting to Islam, and then marriage. Her family reported the incident to the police station in Chunian, but no investigations have been conducted and instead her abductors have presented a report to the court attesting to the girl now being Muslim and legally married. Among other things, the girl is a minor and, according to the law, marriage is not permitted to minors."

The tiny Palestinian Christian community in the Hamas-run Gaza strip is also under siege and charges that five Christians were abducted and pressured into converting to Islam. Because they made this forced conversion charge known, "members of the Christian community now fear reprisal attacks by Muslim extremists." Some have appealed to the Vatican and Christian groups and churches in the West for help. Yet "we only hear voices telling us to stay where we are and to stop making too much noise," said a Christian man living in Gaza City: "If they continue to turn a blind eye to our tragedy, in a few months there will be no Christians left in Palestine. Today it's happening in the Gaza Strip, tomorrow it will take place in Bethlehem."

To that depressing catalog I will add only a couple more items; please do follow the link and read them all:

Kenya: Seven Islamic jihadis launched simultaneous grenade and gunfire attacks on two churches while the congregations were at prayer. Five militants attacked the Africa Inland Church, killing 17 people and wounding approximately 60, including many women and children; two other Muslim terrorists attacked the nearby Catholic Church, wounding three. ...

Nigeria: In what is being described as an ongoing genocide of Christians, over 65 people, including two politicians, were killed in triple attacks on Christians. First, Muslims destroyed 43 Christian-owned farms. Nobody was arrested. Then they attacked nine Christian villages around the city of Jos, killing dozens of people. "They came in hundreds," said an official, "Some had police uniforms and some even had bulletproof vests." In one instance, Christians fleeing the violence took refuge in the house of a local church leader, which was bombed and more than 50 Christians were burned alive, including the pastor's wife and children. Then the Muslims attacked the funeral for the victims of the village raids, killing several more people. Security forces said Muslim Fulani herdsmen were responsible but Islamic militant group Boko Haram issued a statement saying "We thank Allah for the successful attack." Separately, Islamic motorcycle assassins gunned down four Christians. ...

South Africa: The Islamic terror group Al Shabaab is accused of murdering 14 Christians, all Ethiopians, in the Western Cape. A Christian bishop, also a former police inspector, fears more of his flock will be targeted: "We want authorities to do something because we know this is the work of al-Shabaab. If nothing is done, the Ethiopian population will be depleted... [those who died are] holy martyrs who have died because they are Christians." Meanwhile, Father Mike Williams of the Anglican Catholic Church also revealed that members of his congregation have been targeted by gunmen "with connections to Muslim extremists," saying that "In July, we have lost seven members of our church."

Our Out-Of-Ammo President

Scott wrote earlier this morning about Barack Obama's struggle to define what he would accomplish in a second term that he hasn't been able to achieve in his first. There is a reason he is struggling; there is no good answer to the question. So far, what we are seeing in 2012 is merely a rehash of what we saw four years ago. If Obama has any ideas or new approaches to accomplishing old goals, he is keeping them to himself. The Republican National Committee created this ad to illustrate how old and tired Obama's cliches are:

Poll suggests that Akin may be back in the hunt

Posted: 02 Sep 2012 03:01 PM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

A poll taken by PPP on August 28 and 29 has Sen. Claire McCaskill leading Republican challenger Todd Akin by only one point, 45-44. PPP is the same organization that showed McCaskill leading Akin by only one point just after Akin made his stupid remark about rape and reproduction. However, in that poll PPP oversampled Republicans to the tune of 39% R and only 30% D.

In PPP's latest poll of the race, Republicans made up 35 percent of the sample, while Dems made up 33 percent. Thus, the latest poll is worthy of consideration.

Akin, no doubt, will consider it. The likelihood of him dropping out of the race seems quite small as long as at least one reasonably credible poll shows him basically even with his opponent.

How should the Republican Party in general regard this race? Assuming that other polling shows it to be competitive, and assuming that Akin is dead set on continuing his run, I believe the Party eventually should quietly get behind Akin. That doesn't mean a public embrace or joint Romney-Akin appearances. It means helping him behind the scenes.

As I argued here, Akin's comment, as bad it was, should not be considered disqualifying; nor does it make McCaskill as good a choice for the Senate as Akin. Considering that this race could decide which party controls the Senate, there will likely come a time when Republicans should stop displaying over-the-top outrage at Akin and focus on the real stakes in this race.

A Day at the Fair

Posted: 02 Sep 2012 02:27 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

The Minnesota State Fair is one of the world's grand spectacles. It goes on for 12 days at the end of the summer, concluding on Labor Day. One year my wife and youngest daughter went ten times. My own appetite for the fair is more modest, but today the three of us attended. It was a gorgeous end of summer day, and the crowd was huge.

Food and drink are important parts of the State Fair experience:

We walked by the Midway area, which is full of horrifying rides that I wouldn't go on if you paid me:

We experienced such unique fair art forms as butter sculpture:

Politics has always been a part of the state fair experience, especially in even-numbered years. Interestingly, I didn't see a single Obama sign, button or anything else. I think the Democrats have largely given up trying to feign enthusiasm for their candidate. The political activism we did see was issue-oriented. Thus, the AFL-CIO building-it's a building, not a booth-featured a "Tax the Rich" theme, while a group of actors performed a sort of radio play in which the word "Bolshevism" was featured prominently.

I approached the young man you can see in the photo and asked for his definition of "rich." "Everyone has his own definition of 'rich,'" he replied. I know, I said, but I want to know the AFL-CIO's definition, the one they are referring to in their signs. After a little back and forth, he told me that any household with an annual income above $142,000 is rich, pointing to the sign next to him, where such incomes are depicted in scarlet numbers. I asked him whether he seriously believes that everyone with that level of income is rich; he said Yes with a straight face. I told him I am rich by his definition, and the last time I ran the numbers, I paid 43% of my adjusted gross income in federal income taxes, state income taxes, self-employment taxes and Medicare taxes. I asked whether he thought that was enough. He seemed taken aback, but allowed as how 43% seems like plenty. Nevertheless, he spent the rest of the day peddling ignorance.

Most of the political activity we saw related to the two constitutional amendments that will be on the Minnesota ballot in November. One requires a photo ID for voting, and the other defines marriage in traditional terms. We saw more "Vote No" t-shirts, etc., than "Vote Yes," especially on marriage. No surprise there; the liberal side of such issues is always better-funded and better-organized. Nevertheless, poll data continue to suggest that both measures are supported by most Minnesotans.

We have written before about Crop Art-art works that are created by gluing seeds of different colors onto a background. One might think that such a traditional-sounding craft would have a conservative bent, but no: the seed art displayed at the Minnesota State Fair is notoriously left-wing, having in past years included images of Che Guevara, Paul Wellstone, etc. For some reasons, conservatives apparently lack the urge to express their political philosophy in seeds.

Sadly, this year's crop art was as left-wing as usual. Moreover, unlike past years, several of the left-wing pieces actually won ribbons. Maybe that was because the overall quality of the seed art was down this year. This one depicts two gnomes who are, I take it, gay. The "Vote No" refers to the marriage amendment. Note the yellow ribbon:

This one seems like a lame effort, but it too appears to have won a ribbon. It equates voter ID with Jim Crow. "Seriously? It's 2012" As though voter ID were somehow old-fashioned:

This one echoes the Republicans-are-fogies theme. The seed artist has her Democratic Party talking points down; note the "Ayn" and "Rand" on the tires:

This one was the "Senior Crop Art Reserve Champion." You can see it is better done than the others, but its theme is political, at least in part: "Vote NO once, Vote NO twice, let's keep Minnesota nice! ...and vote NO on voter ID!"

So evidently voter fraud is "nice." And it isn't nice, presumably, when you have to show identification to buy a six-pack or board an airplane. Oh, well. We are all used to liberals making bad arguments; the difference is that in most places, you don't see their bad arguments in seeds.

California Dreaming, Chapter 3

(Steven Hayward)

For this installment I take time out from observing California's socialist-utopian dysfunctionality to observe a few of those "exploitable asymmetries" mentioned previously that make it possible for California to get away with so much of its nonsense.  The other day a pod of whales frolicked on the water just offshore from me, and I managed to catch a great blues act, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, at one of my favorite local wineries, Adelaida Cellars.  So even though this state is insane, it's still a nice place to live, and taunt liberals.  (The video is about 4 minutes long.)

Is it Reagan's Revenge that the question Reagan posed to the nation in his 1980 debate with Jimmy Carter inevitably haunts Obama today as he stands for reelection? Watch David Axelrod dance around the question this morning on Fox News Sunday. I don't think it's enough for Romney to prevail that the answer to the question is no, any more than it was for Reagan, but the answer is no.

Incidentally, Maryland Governor (and Democrat Obama supporter) Martin O'Malley gave a direct answer to the question on Face the Nation this morning. As I say, the answer is no.

Update: And David Plouffe dodged the question three times on ABC's This Week.

Green Weenies of the Week: Just About Everybody

Posted: 02 Sep 2012 08:12 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

Perhaps you recall the Nobel Peace Prize being given as a group award a few years back to Al Gore and the 1,200 scientists who contributed to the IPCC climate change report (though, strangely, I know several people who were part of the IPCC process and whose names are in the report, but who never saw any of the Nobel cash-seems Al Gore and the IPCC top bureaucrats kept it all, surprise, surprise).  Well, this week we are compelled to emulate the Nobel committee and give out Power Line's coveted Green Weenie Award to . . . just about everybody in sight.

The only people who had a bigger meltdown than Chris Matthews last week were environmentalists everywhere who were shocked and appalled that the subject of climate change came up . . . not at all during the Republican convention.  Hmmm, maybe Republican leaders have figured out what environmentalists haven't-namely, that no one cares about this issue any more.

The New York Times huffs that the Republican platform has the gall to oppose the UN's goofy Agenda 21, while the greenies at Grist.org are in a huff about the entire energy/environment section of the platform (They said what?-is Grist's headline).

Worse, Romney treats climate change like a punchline!  But rising sea levels are not funny, whines Steve Benen on Rachel Maddow's MSNBC blog, which is pretty funny in itself if you think about it.  The New Republic's Tim Noah is aghast at Romney's climate "nihilism."  Who knew environmentalists would come to replace feminists as the punch line in the old light bulb joke.  (How many feminists does it take to change a light bulb?  "That's not funny!"  Move over feminists-you've got company.)

Guardian columnist George Monbiot is clearly off his meds again, with his column the other day entitled "The Day The World Went Mad": "Yesterday was August 28th 2012. Remember that date. It marks the day when the world went raving mad."  The ice caps are melting, and a hurricane just missed the Republican convention!  "The Republican party's leading lights either deny climate change altogether, or argue that people can adapt to whatever a changed climate may bring, so there's nothing to worry about."

The New York Times moans "What Will It Take" to get the United State to, you know, "wake up" on climate change?  Thank God the League of Democratic Conservation Voters have stepped up with a petition drive: "So what will it take to start a debate on climate change and government efforts to address it? The League of Conservation voters has started a petition drive calling on PBS's Jim Lehrer, the moderator of the first presidential debate, to force the candidates to answer questions about climate change."  That's sure to do the trick.

My guess is that climate change will hardly come up at all from the podium at the Democratic National Convention this week.  Perhaps I'll have to get a second intern to run a clicker for mentions of the issue.  The greens, being the cheap dates of the Democratic Party, will be bought off cheaply enough with lots of language in the platform.

Fortunately, we only have to put up with this drivel for another few months.  Steven Goddard of the Real Science website reminds us that NASA's James Hansen said back in January 2009 that President Obama only had four years to save the planet from global warming.  So even if Obama is re-elected, I'm glad that we can look forward to Hansen and his like shutting up, since time will be up. . .  What's that?  You mean I won't be able to retire the Green Weenie?

It's okay Jim, the Mayan calendar pre-empts you anyway

He would never talk to Gene Hackman like that

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 02:38 PM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

Scott has saluted Clint Eastwood's appearance last night at the RNC, concluding that it worked. I think it probably did too, and said so at the time. I know that my wife, who is a not a Republican, enjoyed it and saw nothing amiss.

For many in the anti-Obama camp, the inquiry ends with the political calculus. But Eastwood's performance left a slightly sour taste in my mouth.

Eastwood got off some good lines, to be sure. But there was also the suggestion that Mitt Romney thinks we should bring the troops home from Afghanistan tomorrow. That, of course, is far from Romney's position, and far from a sensible one, as reasonable as Eastwood makes it sound.

Maybe it's worth exploiting Eastwood's star power even when it involves misleading the country about a key issue of national defense. But for me, the adage "shut up and act", much loved by conservatives when leftist express anti-war opinions, comes to mind.

Many conservatives would be howling if, it a national convention, an actor had disrespected, in the Eastwood manner, a President of the United States of whom they approve. They will have occasion to howl. The bar was lowered last night. The fact that Eastwood isn't just any actor doesn't change this.

On a lighter note, I recall that in the late 1960s, the comic actor Tony Randall came under attack for participating in an anti-war skit in which he chastised President Johnson. One congressman said, "maybe he can talk that way to Rock Hudson [with whom Randall had co-starred in movies], but he can't talk to the President of the United States like that."

Randall's response was, "I would never talk to Rock like that."

Paul and Scott reacted differently to Clint Eastwood's performance last night; Scott loved it, Paul didn't. I didn't know what to make of it. But it apparently got to Barack Obama; he tweeted in response that "this seat is taken." So the empty seat (with its own teleprompter) has quickly become a campaign theme. Glenn Reynolds noted conservative mockery of Obama's seat tweet, and posted this beautiful photoshop by one Ronnie Schrieber:

Mockery: it's a good thing.

A salute to Clint Eastwood

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 01:12 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

I thought there was a kind of genius in Clint Eastwood's endorsement of Romney in his appearance at the RNC last night. The party conventions have become so controlled and scripted, you have to wonder if we'll ever see its like again.

I acknowledge that reasonable people can disagree about this - the Los Angeles Times calls it "a stunt that may go down in history as the strangest televised moment in convention history" - but I thought it was funny throughout and hilarious in parts. It was interesting. It was real. It was unscripted. It was ingenious. It had an air of authentic unpredictability about it. It looked like a high-wire act without a net. And it packed a punch.

Eastwood is one of a kind. Since John Wayne departed for parts unknown, there is nobody else quite like him. I credit the highly cautious Romney people with taking a chance on Eastwood's appearance. I think it worked. Here, in case you missed it, is the video.

Quotable quotes: "Of course, Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party."

"We own this country. Politicians are employees of ours. They're just going to come around and beg for votes every few years, it's the same old deal."

"When someone isn't doing the job, we got to let him go."

JOHN adds: I didn't know what to make of Eastwood's-what? I think maybe the best characterization is performance art-last night, and I still don't. But Glenn Reynolds pulls together some positive reactions from people I respect.

Turn it up

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 12:02 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

Winding into a holiday weekend, it can't be wrong to remember that Van Morrison - singer, songwriter and artist - celebrates his sixty-seventh birthday today. Morrison is an artist who has absorbed all the strains of American popular music and recapitulated them in his own unique voice. Born in Belfast, he stands shoulder to shoulder with the greats in the pantheon of the Cosmic American Music.

Beginning with Astral Weeks in 1968, Morrison experienced a tremendous burst of creative energy that is also reflected on Moondance, His Band and Street Choir, Tupelo Honey and Saint Dominic's Preview.

"Caravan" is one of the intriguing fantasy songs from this period. The song represents Morrison's take on Curtis Mayfield's "Gypsy Woman" as well as a a tribute to radio and to the music that has inspired him. "Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher, radio," goes the chorus. Why? "So you know it's got soul" is one answer.

"Caravan" is not only one of the highlights of Moondance, it's also one of the two songs that Morrison performed with the Band at the Band's final concert on Thanksgiving in 1976 at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The Band's Robbie Robertson had to talk him into the other song he performed that night, a beautiful version of "Tura Lura Lura."

Martin Scorsese documented Morrison's performance with the Band on film in The Last Waltz (video above). Morrison overcame a major case of stage fright, first to save the show and then to steal it. Greil Marcus covered the show for Rolling Stone. Marcus described Van's performance:

Van Morrison made his entrance and he turned the show around. I had seen him not many minutes before prowling the balconies, dressed nondescriptly in a shirt and jeans, scowling; but there he was onstage, in an absurd maroon suit and a green top, singing to the rafters. They cut into "Caravan" - with [producer] John Simon waving the Band's volume up and down, and the horns at their most effective - while Van burned holes in the floor. He was magic, and I thought, Why didn't he join the Band years ago? More than any other singer, he fit in, his music and theirs made sense together. It was a triumph, and as the song ended Van began to kick his leg into the air out of sheer exuberance, and he kicked his way right offstage like a Rockette. The crowd had given him a fine welcome and they cheered wildly when he left.

Scorsese's camera caught Van with the barest hint of a smile as he exited stage left. "Hey, Van the Man," Robbie Robertson exulted.

Van is still going strong, both in writing and performing. I saw him last when he came through Minneapolis in December 2007. By my lights he remains a riveting, essential and enigmatic artist live and on disc.

Explosive Confrontation In Jerusalem?

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 11:05 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

The Blaze reports on the continuing deterioration of relations between the Obama administration and the government of Israel:

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot headlined its Friday paper "The Confrontation" with a photo of Netanyahu on one side and President Obama alongside U.S. ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, on the other. Veteran diplomatic correspondent Shimon Schiffer reports that during a private meeting last week, Netanyahu very undiplomatically attacked Obama and his advisers over what he views as their ineffective Iran policy. The incident took place when Republican congressman and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers visited Netanyahu's office for an Iran briefing, accompanied by the U.S. ambassador to Israel. Schiffer reports (translated via hard copy by TheBlaze in Israel):

Netanyahu, according to a source who participated in the meeting, was particularly surly and stressed. At the start of the meeting, he opened with a sharp attack on the Obama administration which according to him has not done enough on the Iranian issue. "Instead of effectively pressuring Iran, Obama and his people are pressuring us not to attack the nuclear facilities," he said, and then moved on to a harsh criticism of the administration's pronouncements indicating there is still room for diplomacy. "The time has run out," he said resolutely.

At one point, an anomalous thing occurred in the office, which is very unacceptable in diplomatic code. Ambassador Shapiro who was appointed by President Obama and for years was among his closest advisers decided he'd had enough. Enough is enough. He spoke and answered Netanyahu politely but in a manner that left no room for doubt.
The ambassador in fact accused Netanyahu of distorting Obama's position. He quoted the president, who promised he would not allow a nuclear Iran and said that all options - including a military strike - are on the table [...]
Diplomatic sources who were privy to the incident say that "lightning and sparks flew" in the room, and that the exchange of words became more harsh.

Is this account correct? I don't know, but it is certainly plausible. Separately, as The Blaze also notes, Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey continued to distance the Obama administration from Israel by saying that ""I don't want to be complicit if they [Israel] choose to do it [i.e., bomb Iran's nuclear facilities]." One is only "complicit" in bad, if not criminal, actions. So it is no wonder if Netanyahu considers the Obama administration to be an adversary, not an ally.

For all of Clint Eastwood's rhetorical cleverness at the Republican Convention, the speech derived its effectiveness precisely because it wasn't one of those "I take this platform tonight with pen in hand, bearing in mind the immortal words of Clancy M. Duckworth" type orations. It wasn't the speech of someone who was running for office.

The Real Narrative of the RNC Protest: Will Anyone Remember?  By Mary Grabar

Reporters seemed to equal protesters in number at the Republican National Convention, and they seemed desperate to get a report, a story, that fit the overarching narrative. It was a bizarre sight to see a reporter from a major network interviewing a homeless person about the presidential race.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 67 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

The Race Is On!

Heading into this convention, I know there were more than a few Republicans who were apprehensive about the election. It's been a slow road for Romney to close the deal with the conservative base. But he did it last night with an entire evening devoted to the values of faith and family.

Some social conservatives may complain that there was only one bone thrown our way in Romney's acceptance speech, when he briefly addressed values issues directly, saying:

"As president, I will protect the sanctity of life. I will honor the institution of marriage. And I will guarantee America's first liberty: the freedom of religion."

I would submit that Romney's entire speech was a values-based speech that really put in stark contrast the difference between the left-wing, socialist, government-is-god worldview and the conservative, pro-family, faith-based worldview. For example:

  • Family permeated the whole convention. The importance of parents who sacrifice for their children was a constant theme -- from Condi Rice to Marco Rubio to Mitt and Ann Romney.

And one of the best lines in Romney's speech last night was this one: "President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family." It was a great zinger at Obama's hollow rhetoric and failed policies, but it also underscored Mitt Romney's commitment to family.
  • American exceptionalism -- the belief that our liberty comes from God, a founding principle expressed in our Declaration of Independence -- was mentioned in Mitt Romney's speech, in Paul Ryan's speech, in Marco Rubio's speech and by many others at the convention.

Don't forget, folks, that when Obama quotes from the same section of the Declaration of Independence, he repeatedly leaves out the most important words "endowed by their Creator."

All the values debates we are having in America -- life, marriage, etc. -- ultimately get back to the origin of our rights. Where do our rights come from? The left believes they come from government. We believe they come from God. If we don't win this debate, we won't win many others.
  • Among those first, essential freedoms is religious liberty. And the defense of religious liberty was a constant theme throughout the convention, including in the very powerful benediction delievered by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

As I travel around the country, I don't meet many hyphenated conservatives. Sure, they all have their top priorities. But whatever their main concerns may be, what we heard at this convention was a coherent and comprehensive Reaganesque conservatism.

We want a strong national defense. We want less government, lower taxes and more liberty. We want all our children to be protected under law and to enjoy the prosperity that makes America the envy of the world. We also want our children to experience the love and security that comes from families with a mother and a father.

I'm sure you've heard more than once from a friend or family member that old saying, "There's not a dime's worth of difference between the two parties."

My friends, on the most fundamental issues -- the sanctity of life, the meaning of marriage, the centrality of faith, the purpose of government -- the differences are the biggest!

One final point. Barack Obama's election was proof positive of the overwhelming decency of America. As the first black president, Obama performed better among white male voters than Gore or Kerry, and he outperformed Kerry among white female voters.

That was particularly true among younger Americans from suburban families, many of whom were likely more oriented toward the GOP. They genuinely wanted to believe that this man of hope and change would bring this country together. I don't need to take time or space here to rehash how Obama hasn't even tried.

But when Paul Ryan referred to the faded Obama posters in the childhood bedrooms of many 20-somethings today, and when Mitt Romney rightly stated "this president cannot tell us that you are better off today than when he took office," they reminded us that elections are more than just popularity contests or speech contests.

I believe, I hope, I pray that millions were reminded this week about the central importance of our traditional American values -- faith, family, free enterprise, freedom -- the values that make America succeed. If so, they will know that out of the decency and goodness of their hearts they gave Obama a chance and that it is also okay, even necessary, to let him go.

If Americans watching in their living rooms witnessed the same Republican National Convention I did, I know they were inspired, as I was, to trust Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to once again make this nation a shining city upon a hill!

Getting To Know Mitt Romney

I can't end this report without commenting on the incredibly powerful personal testimonies that were offered last night on Mitt and Ann Romney's behalf.

For months the Obama campaign and its liberal media allies have waged a relentless campaign of character assassination aimed at demonizing Mitt Romney as a heartless "vampire capitalist" who is incapable of relating to, much less caring for, average people.

Last night's speakers not only drove a stake through that lie, but they did it in such a way that truly exposed the ugliness of the Democrats' desperation to smear a good man. Those stories must be repeated in the days and weeks ahead. More Americans need to know Mitt Romney's incredible character.

To his immense credit, Mitt Romney is a humble man. He doesn't like bragging about himself, and, unfortunately, he is reticent when it comes to telling his own story. So those of us who would prefer to see Mitt Romney rather than Barack Obama in the White House next year will have to do it for him.

That is why I recently co-authored an op-ed with Daniel Allott spotlighting the incredible generosity of Mitt and Ann Romney. You can read it online at the Washington Post's "On Faith" blog. Please share it with your friends and family members over this holiday weekend.

Union Money in Elections

This election year, millions of Americans will donate to the political candidates and initiatives of their choice at the local, state, and federal levels. But for unionized workers, union dues come out of their paychecks and go to political causes-and they aren't consulted on where that money will go.

In July, The Wall Street Journal's Tom McGinty and Brody Mullins published an eye-opening report that "Organized labor spends about four times as much on politics and lobbying as generally thought."

They broke down the unions' political spending from 2005 to 2011: $1.1 billion "supporting federal candidates through their political-action committees, which are funded with voluntary contributions, and lobbying Washington, which is a cost borne by the unions' own coffers."

But that was only the beginning. Add to that another $3.3 billion for political activity from "polling fees, to money spent persuading union members to vote a certain way, to bratwursts to feed Wisconsin workers protesting at the state capitol last year." Who pays for this? The workers, McGinty and Mullins report: "Much of this kind of spending comes not from members' contributions to a PAC but directly from unions' dues-funded coffers."

Despite findings that 60 percent of union members object to their dues being spent on political causes, this practice continues. Why?

In the 27 states without right-to-work laws, many unions are able to put clauses in their contracts that allow them to fire workers who do not pay union dues. If a worker wants to work for a unionized firm, he or she is forced to join the union and pay the dues, which can run from several hundred to several thousand dollars a year.

In a new paper, Heritage's James Sherk gives an example of this rule at work: "The United Auto Workers (UAW), which organized General Motors' Michigan factories in 1937, is a case in point. Michigan does not have a right-to-work law, so union-represented workers must pay the union's dues or get fired."

Notice the year there-1937. The workers coming on the job in 2012 are bound by a vote taken by their ancestors, essentially. "General Motors' current employees never had the chance to vote for or against the UAW. UAW representation was a non-negotiable condition of their employment."

Sherk argues that these rules make no sense for today's workers. Just 7 percent of private-sector union members voted for the union that represents them, and the vast majority of government unions organized at least 30 years ago. The workers inherit the representation of yesteryear, which negotiates their terms of pay, promotion, layoff, and retirement.

Once organized, unions remain indefinitely. Naturally, that gives union leaders little reason to be accountable to their members in any way-they're not going to have to stand for re-election.

To give unionized workers the freedom they deserve, Sherk says, this system should end.

Congress and state legislatures should at the least require government and private-sector unions to stand for re-election. Re-election votes every two to four years would allow employees to regularly assess their union's performance as their representative....

An even better reform would be to give workers representative choice-allowing individual employees to choose who represents them, irrespective of who other employees select. This would remove the union's monopoly over the workplace, allowing employees to negotiate contracts tailored to their needs.

Workers should have the freedom to choose whether they want union representation or not. And if they do want to join a union, they should be able to choose which union they join. This freedom would give them more say over paying union dues in the first place, and how those dues are used. It would also give them the opportunity to negotiate merit-based raises, which unions do not allow.

America's unionized workers deserve the same freedoms as non-unionized workers-in an election year and every year.

Hello America,

Glenn Beck We're coming to the end of one of the most crucial summers of our lifetime. Over the past few months, we've committed, we've activated, we've lived it, and we've created. We're now in the final push to the election, and I believe that we are going to finally get some leadership in Washington that will be more focused on empowering individuals to find solutions rather than regulating the country into oblivion.

And I, along with the team at TheBlaze, are going to be with you every step of the way!

Last week, the Real News team was down in Tampa providing exclusive coverage for TheBlaze TV (formerly GBTV) viewers - and that was just the beginning. From now until the election, TheBlaze is going to bring you the truth on what is going on in the presidential race, without any of the political bias that you see in the mainstream media.

As part of our growing network, we're adding a new show hosted by Andrew Wilkow that will premiere on September 10th on TheBlaze TV. Available for PLUS subscribers, Wilkow! will bring the popular Sirius XM radio host into primetime, and he'll be the latest voice to bring you the stories and the opinions that you just can't find in the mainstream media.

The same week that we premiere Wilkow!, I'm going to be joining my partners at Freedomworks for our FreePac Bootcamp in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sepetember 15th. At the event, I'll unveil a historic project that will launch the future of the movement for freedom.  I'll be speaking, along with FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe, Deneen Borelli, and CL Bryant - and giving you the first look at a powerful new tool that will empower you to take action beyond the voting booth.

You and I both know that the problems facing our country aren't going to change over night. In November, we're simply removing the problem of progressive big government. But starting in January, it's going to be up to us - ALL of us - to work together to help our fellow man now that we've told the politicians to stay away.

One of the reasons I created TheBlaze, the network that YOU are building, was to provide a platform for you to be empowered. It's not just a news site or video streaming network - it's a place where you can connect with likeminded people to recharge and get the tools you need to create change in the world. With each day, we take more and more steps to build the company with that one goal in mind. And one of the ways we are trying to empower individuals across the country is through The Marketplace, an e-commerce site dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs throughout America by bringing great small businesses to a larger national platform.

Over the next few weeks on TheBlaze, you'll see many of their stories as they respond to perhaps the biggest slam against the American Dream - "You didn't build that".

This is where President Obama differs from most of us across the country who do believe in the American Dream. When he says, "You didn't build that," he's saying you needed help from the government to achieve your success. When I think of "You didn't build that", I think of all of you who are out there spending your hard earned money on businesses and charities that YOU believe in. You don't need the government to decide who succeeds and fails - you make those decisions with your dollars.

On this Labor day, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for helping me build my company over the past decade. Because of your trust and your confidence and your support - I've been able to take some of my wildest dreams and turn them into a reality. I truly hope that you find value in the things that my team and I are sending out into the world.

While I could have (and did) do it without big government - I couldn't have built all of this without YOU.

God Bless,
