Marine Veteran Brandon Raub's Attorney says he is getting calls from veterans and people all over the country reporting psychiatric detention for political speech.
Last Thursday, decorator form US Marine Brandon Raub, who served two tour of duties in Iraq and Afghanistan, was detained by the FBI and local authorities for posting controversial anti-government political comments on the social media site Facebook.
Although 26 year-old Brandon Raub was forcefully detained against his will for his political views he was not charged with any criminal misconduct, a hallmark of the NAZI gestapo tactic of indefinite psychiatric detention which was used to crush political dissent.
John Whitehead, a constitutional attorney representing Raub, discussed how the US government violated his client's first amendment rights with RT yesterday.
He also made an appearance on GBTV with Glen Beck in which he made even more shocking revelations.
Whitehead tells Beck that he is getting calls from military veterans all over the country subjected to the same Nazi style psychiatric detention for their political views.
More alarming, is when Beck asked if people of left-wing ideology - specifically members of Occupy Wall Street - are being detained Whitehead responded? saying he can't say for sure because people all over the country are just disappearing.
He also reveals that while Raub was in psychiatric detention one of the psychiatrists that he was seeing threatened to "brainwash" him and force him to take medication. Watch the entire interview Here . . .

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Republicans emphatically approved a toughly worded party platform at their national convention Tuesday that would ban all abortions and gay marriages, reshape Medicare into a voucher-like program and cut taxes to energize the economy and create jobs.
The document opens by warning that while the American Dream has long been of equal opportunity for everyone, "Today that American Dream is at risk." It pledges that the GOP will "begin anew, with profound changes in the way government operates; the way it budgets, taxes and regulates."

Do Political Conventions Matter?
Delegates have known for months (or longer) who their parties will nominate for President. With such predictability, the national conventions have been taken for granted and a few myths have arisen. Chief among these myths is that conventions no longer matter. As AP Managing Editor Michael Oreskes puts it, they're "the largest, most expensive infomercials in human experience."
In reality, national political conventions are vital to both the political parties and the American people.
The national convention allows each party to frame the election. It's the occasion for releasing the national party platform, which spells out the central philosophical theme and key policy positions on which the candidates run. Moreover, conventions can make or break a party's chances on Election Day.
In 1968, Hubert Humphrey's warm embrace of President Lyndon B. Johnson's Vietnam policy combined with the complete mismanagement of the convention's protestors sealed Richard Nixon's victory. Humphrey's last-minute surge, propelled by organized labor, couldn't dig him out of the hole of the Chicago convention.
Barry Goldwater's defiant 1964 acceptance speech, in which he declared that "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice," galvanized the Right but allowed liberals to tie the albatross of extremism around conservatives for years.
Conventions also matter to the average American voters, many of whom are beginning to pay attention to the race for the first time. Conventions present to the American electorate, in prime time, the nominees of each major party. It's a chance for the candidates to shine, or be melted by the spotlight. In 2008, America met Sarah Palin, John McCain's Vice Presidential candidate. Palin's speech electrified the convention, energized the Republican Party, and gave the ticket a bump in the polls. People forget that McCain led Barack Obama by a couple of points just before the financial crisis erupted.
And let's not forget that the conventions matter to the ratings-starved mass media. Conventions are like the summer Olympics-there's nothing else to watch but reruns of "NCIS" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." The conventions offer a pre-packaged, easy to follow format in an enclosed space.
Yet, the most important speech you'll hear may not be the one the media hypes. Ronald Reagan's spontaneous remarks at the 1976 Republican convention, looking forward to America in the year 2076, caused delegates to wonder whether they had nominated the right man in Gerald Ford. Obama's moving keynote address in 2004 overshadowed John Kerry's acceptance speech, introduced the state senator to a national audience, and prepared the way for him to win the presidential nomination four years later.
Modern conventions are full of unexpected twists and turns. For example, the so-called 1980 "dream ticket" of Ronald Reagan/Gerald Ford-pushed by pragmatists on both sides-suddenly collapsed when former President Ford acknowledged that what he had in mind was a "co-presidency." Presidential nominee Reagan was uninterested in sharing the office, and besides a plural chief executive wasn't exactly what the framers had in mind.

Parties, under some denominations or another, must always be expected in a government as free as ours. When the individuals belonging to them are intermingled in every part of the country, they strengthen the union of the whole while they divide every part.
At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. I've been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.
Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsberg's effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominee's campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.
That issue appears resolved, but several people I've spoken to make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.
Former CIA and Special Operations members are announcing the creation of OPSEC, a new nationwide public campaign to combat the spike in leaks and politicization of Intelligence and Special Operations missions that threaten their effectiveness and the safety of Americans who conduct them. OPSEC - short for Operational Security, meaning to eliminate or reduce the exploitation of critical information - will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a new documentary short film highlighting the problem from the perspective of those who have served in these critical positions. The film will also serve as the basis for a TV and online advertising effort.
"Intelligence and Special Operations members are angry and frustrated at how our work has been used for political advantage by officials across government, including President Obama himself who bears special responsibility as Commander in Chief," said Scott Taylor, chairman of OPSEC and a former Navy SEAL. "We want the American people to understand the cost of these leaks and politicization both on those who serve and on our national security and to hold those in positions of leadership accountable if it doesn't stop."
OPSEC is made up of individuals who served their country in the CIA, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) consisting of Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations. It is organized as a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan public education campaign and is independent of any political party or campaign organization.
The campaign will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a documentary short film that views the impact of the increasing number of leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions, tradecraft, tactics and capabilities from the perspective of those who have relied on these tools to carryout similar missions and protect themselves and those they served alongside. The film will be shown at events in key states across the country over the next several months, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada. "Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk," said Fred Rustmann, an OPSEC member and 24-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency. "OPSEC will carry a strong message across the country that it's time for President Obama and other administration officials to stop jeopardizing national security operations for political gain."

Now, a year later, we find out that while Obama was out front blowing military secrets, his staff was behind the scenes doing the same.
His Administration's backroom release of top secret documents to The New York Times has jeopardized covert operations worldwide. All for the cheapest of political purposes.

The organization noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.
Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.
This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.

Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Peco has stopped installing Smart Meters which are part of UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). If you have had a Smart Meter installed on your home, you should immediately call Peco and tell them to remove it. These fires have been reported in other states after the meters were installed.
For those that have already had the Smart Meter installed on their home, Peco will return, test the meter, and place a warning sign on the meter with a device that should a fire start, the meter will shut off. New reports are that Peco has switched overnight to another provider for these meters, assuring the public that these will be safe. Are we to trust this company, the same one that put fire hazards on 186,000 homes in PA?
Now is the time to act! The ball is in our court. I will be trying to go up to Harrisburg in September to push to get legislation out of committee. Maybe we are being given time to stop part of UN agenda 21.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.
The rhetorical Medicare wars have heated up this week, after President Obama declared in his Saturday radio address that his proposed reforms "won't touch your guaranteed Medicare benefits. Not by a single dime."
This is incorrect. Obamacare cuts $716 billion from Medicare over the next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), and uses these "savings" from Medicare to fund other entitlement expansions mandated by Obamacare. Medicare becomes a cash cow for Obamacare, and the Medicare "savings" from payment cuts are not put back into making Medicare solvent. Such massive payment cuts do impact Medicare benefits, as well as seniors' access to those benefits.
The impact of these cuts will be detrimental to seniors' access to care. The Medicare trustees 2012 report concludes that these lower Medicare payment rates will cause an estimated 15 percent of hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies to operate at a loss by 2019, 25 percent to operate at a loss in 2030, and 40 percent by 2050. Operating at a loss means these facilities are likely to cut back their services to Medicare patients or close their doors, making it more difficult for seniors to access these services.
The President also said on Saturday, "As President, my goal has been to strengthen these programs now, and preserve them for future generations." But Obamacare imposes new taxes on present and future generations-including a new Medicare "payroll tax" that doesn't even go toward Medicare. Senger details:
The payroll tax funds Medicare Part A, the trust fund that is projected to become insolvent as soon as 2024. Obamacare increases the tax from 2.9 percent to 3.8 percent, which is projected to cost taxpayers $318 billion from 2013 to 2022. However, for the very first time, Obamacare does not use the tax revenue from the increased Medicare payroll tax to pay for Medicare; the money is used to fund other parts of Obamacare, much like the $716 billion in cuts are.
The same set of dollars "saved" from Obamacare's massive across-the-board Medicare payment cuts cannot be used to enhance Medicare solvency, reduce the federal deficit, and fund Obamacare's entitlement expansions all at the same time. This is only a fraction of the dishonesty and budgeting shell games surrounding Medicare.
The Heritage Foundation advocates reforming Medicare into a premium support plan. What does that mean? Seniors would be given a choice between the fee-for-service Medicare of today or private plans. "Premium support" simply means that the government funding that goes toward their traditional Medicare plan now would be transferred directly to the plan of a senior's choice, just as it is today in the Medicare drug program that already serves most senior citizens.
Not only would this change stimulate intense competition to control costs among private health plans, as well as the traditional Medicare program, but it would widen the scope of seniors' options and give them greater control over their own health care.
Under all of the major premium-support proposals unveiled on Capitol Hill, traditional Medicare would remain. Seniors would have the right to stay in traditional Medicare or pick a better plan if they wished to do so. To quote President Obama, "If you like your plan, you can keep it"-truly.
Shifting to premium support would not take away seniors' benefits. All major versions of premium support guarantee beneficiaries at least the Medicare benefits or the level of benefits they get today. In addition, they would have access to new plans with even higher levels of coverage at competitive prices tomorrow.
Some liberal opponents of Medicare reform pretend that reforms would suddenly bring private insurers into the mix. In fact, private health plans have been part of Medicare since the 1970s. The New York Times did a good job of explaining that private insurers are working very well within Medicare today-and they are playing a role in expanding benefit options while controlling costs. On August 25, the Times's Robert Pear reported:
Even as President Obama accuses Mitt Romney and Representative Paul D. Ryan of trying to privatize and "voucherize" Medicare, his administration crows about the success of private health plans in delivering prescription drug benefits and other services to Medicare beneficiaries.

Why is Hillsdale teaching a course on the Progressive movement?

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
Last night in Tampa, FL, Ann Romney wowed the crowd. She was personable, personal, and did her best to make her husband relatable. At the same time, the Democratic National Convention was rounding out its list of speakers. While Ann Romney, Chris Christie, and the rest of the Republicans are focused on the future of this country and the way to create jobs, the Democrats are turning their convention into a celebration of the right to kill kids.
Prior to the beating of Kenneth Gladney, the Service Employees International Union (or SEIU) flew under the public's radar. Many Americans' had never heard of then-SEIU boss Andy Stern and his merry band of purple goons*. Since the Gladney beating, however, the SEIU has earned the reputation once held by such notorious unions as the once mafia-controlled Teamsters or Longshoremen. Now, with the internet replacing the mainstream media as a major source where Americans get their news, tracking the bad actors inside today's unions like the SEIU has never been easier.
Take, for example, the story of the Connecticut nursing home patients who were recently put in harm's way when the SEIU abandoned them for picket lines. Were it not for the internet (and a long memory), finding the story about the SEIU's 2001 nursing home strike where "equipment and sterile medical supplies had been tampered with, patient identification bracelets were removed, drugs were missing and a door to a supply room containing oxygen had been glued shut" would have laborious, if not impossible.
Several days before the August congressional recess, we noted that some conservatives were considering abjuring the House budget in favor of a 6-month CR to fund the beginning of FY 2013 in October. Their rationale was to defer the major spending fights until 2013, when presumably, we would have more control over the final outcome. Additionally, the original intent of this plan was to deny the Democrats and moderate Republicans the opportunity to use a must-pass spending bill to tack on tax increases and other bad proposals during the lame duck session.

I have seen many news reports about the murder of a settler family by an unknown intruder, but none of these reports have made note of the real tragedy in this case. That of the knife. Jewish children are a dime a dozen. One can hardly walk through Jerusalem without being able to throw a stone in the direction of half a dozen of them. But knives are a vital part of Palestinian culture. A good throat slitting knife may be handed down through the generations.
When I visited Gaza in July, I met a brave fighter who showed me a knife which his grandfather used to slit the throat of a Jew in Hebron in 1933, and his father used in a raid on a farmhouse in 1962 and which he hopes to use one day as well. There is both romance and practical necessity in this. The criminal Israeli siege of Gaza allows through food and clothing, but not knives. Many Gazans must make do with a single knife for the entire family. Only one of them is able to use the knife at a time. If the grandmother of a large family wants to slice bread while her grandson breaks into a settlement to slit a baby's throat-- she has no choice but to starve. That is the real tragedy here.
A religion of peace? This is why opposing Islamization and Sharia right now in America is crucial.
It appears that Afghan Muslims were inspired to have their rewards "multiplied" for the "good deed" of killing American coalition soldiers after "fasting, praying and reciting the Quran." Of course Islam is a religion of peace, right? Wrong.
"These cuts are alarmingly disproportionate: 43 percent of the sequestration cuts would come from defense, though it is only 11 percent of total spending," Bucci and Fraser write.
Congress needs to undo the cuts to defense and instead offset them with cuts elsewhere. They should not raise taxes on Americans to bolster defense readiness.
Raising taxes for defense would only increase the sting of the massive Taxmageddon tax hikes coming January 1. Rather, President Obama and Congress need to sit down and hash out a common-sense budget:
"The ideal solution is for the Administration and Congress to solve the budget impasse today, as each day delayed makes it more difficult for defense suppliers and military leaders to plan ahead in a very risky world. Thus, staying within the spending cuts agreed to within the BCA means offsetting sequestration with spending cuts elsewhere."
Every day without a deal that replaces dangerous defense cuts with cuts elsewhere increases the risk to America:
"Like Taxmageddon and the economy, sequestration is hurting defense now. Congress and the President should protect defense-this is not negotiable, despite the wishes of some on Capitol Hill, and it is not an ideological issue, as some have tried to portray it. Gambling with the readiness and security of America is not leadership; it is exactly the opposite."

My rebuttal in the nation's largest newspaper this morning says the editors are wrong to say that politicans who insist on immigration enforcement are anti-Hispanic. I say such enforcement helps Hispanic citizens more than anybody.

Among the many promises Obama makes are the following: "Send Rebate Checks of $1,000 to American Families," "Staff the Government Based on Talent, Not Political Loyalties," and "Eliminate North Korea's Nuclear Weapons Programs." Some of the pledges combine hubris with bad policy: "Create Five Million New Green Jobs," "Create Automatic Workplace Pensions." Others are just silly: "Create a 'Craigslist' for Service."

Leavenworth Kansas to respond directly to the Small Wars Journal article by Leavenworth instructor Colonel Kevin Benson which paints the Tea Party movement as a future military opponent during domestic CONUS operations by the U.S. military. Since Colonel Benson has chosen to demonize the Tea Party movement, by using the Tea Party as the "bad guys"- along with militias - in his hypothetical scenario of future domestic military operations, and since he is apparently using his position at Ft. Leavenworth to brainwash young officers into thinking that the Tea Party is a potential future enemy they will have to fire upon, we feel it is crucial to counter his propaganda in as direct a manner as possible, sending a clear message not just to him, but to his students there at Ft. Leavenworth and to all others stationed there, and to the broader Army. Commanders and Hundreds of Elite Soldiers Deployed to Damascus, Members Say, as Deepening Conflict Worries Key Ally

BEIRUT-Iran is sending commanders from its elite Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and hundreds of foot soldiers to Syria, according to current and former members of the corps.
The personnel moves come on top of what these people say are Tehran's stepped-up efforts to aid the military of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with cash and arms. That would indicate that regional capitals are being drawn deeper into Syria's conflict-and undergird a growing perception among Mr. Assad's opponents that the regime's military is increasingly strained.
A commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, appeared to offer Iran's first open acknowledgment of its military involvement in Syria.

The death of the pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie was not caused by the negligence of the Israeli state or army, a judge has ruled, dismissing a civil lawsuit brought by the family.
Corrie's death was an accident for which the state of Israel was not responsible, said the judge at Haifa district court.
There had been no fault in the internal Israeli military investigation clearing the driver of the bulldozer that crushed Corrie to death in March 2003 of any blame. The judge said the driver had not seen the young American activist.
Corrie could have saved herself by moving out of the zone of danger as any reasonable person would have done, said Judge Oded Gershon. He ruled that no compensation would be paid and the family would not have to pay costs of the case.
COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 70 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

RNC Convention Underway
In spite of yesterday's washout, spirits are high in Tampa. Tonight Americans tuning in from around the country will hear from former Senator Rick Santorum, former Democratic Congressman Artur Davis, Gov. Scott Walker, Ann Romney and Gov. Chris Christie.
This afternoon I spoke at an RNC for Life event led by my good friend and long-time pro-life leader Phyllis Schlafly. Writing in yesterday's Washington Times Phyllis noted, "[This] Republican Party platform may be the best one ever adopted."
Yet, as we watch some folks in the media and professional political class try to push the party away from values issues, it is worth remembering the Grand Old Party's rich tradition when it comes to defending family values and the dignity of every life. America's first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, boldly campaigned against two great evils of his day -- the "twin pillars of barbarism" as they are sometimes called.
The first, of course, was slavery. It was, at its core, a debate about who was part of the American family and whether America would live up to its promise in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal.
In 1857 the Supreme Court got it terribly wrong when it ruled that blacks were not created equal, that they were property with no rights we were bound to respect. Thankfully we no longer debate equality among races.
But we are still fighting to fulfill the Declaration's promise that we are all endowed by our Creator with an inalienable right to life. In 1973 the Supreme Court again got it terribly wrong when it ruled that another class of individuals -- unborn children -- were essentially property with no rights we were bound to respect.
Lincoln was also staunchly opposed to the practice of polygamy. He and others at the time believed so strongly that marriage was between one man and one woman that they denied Utah admission into the Union until it officially banned the practice.
Today Barack Obama and his party are leading the charge to radically redefine marriage. But if marriage can be redefined, then what is the logical and legal basis for limiting it to just two individuals?
It is ironic that so many high-priced consultants want the GOP to abandon the right to life and the meaning of marriage. To do so would be to abandon the party's founding principles. Thankfully, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are standing firm on life and marriage, despite pressure from the liberal media and some in the political establishment.
Romney On Abortion: Two Lives At Stake
On Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace pressed Mitt Romney on how Democrats are exploiting the controversy surrounding Todd Akin's recent comments to drive female voters away from the GOP. Governor Romney gave a good answer, and I want to share it with you.
"With regards to the issue of abortion, that is something where men and women have alternative views on that or different views. We look at an issue like that with great seriousness and sobriety and recognize that different people have reached different conclusions.
"But it's not just men who think one way. Women also, in many cases, are pro-life. There are two lives at stake, the child, the unborn child, and the mom. And I care for both of them."
Botching The Abortion Debate
Some Republicans may want to focus solely on the economy, but there's only so much they can do to control the narrative. When social issues arise, Republicans can't run and hide. They need to address the issues on their own terms. And on abortion, it's no more difficult than pointing out where the real extremists reside. Standing With Israel
Yesterday Ralph Reed and I participated in an important meeting sponsored by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee with Jewish leaders and activists, some of whom were delegates to the Republican National Convention. The event lasted twice as long as originally scheduled. Many of the attendees were businessmen and women concerned about Obama's failed economic policies.
But many were also deeply worried about the gathering storm clouds over the Middle East. They were troubled by the fact that Obama has avoided doing anything serious about Iran's nuclear weapons program.
Think about this, my friends. The West is paralyzed right now when it comes to dealing with Syria because of Assad's chemical weapons. How would we deal with Assad if he possessed nuclear weapons? Thankfully, Israel took out a suspected nuclear facility in Syria several years ago.
If the West is hesitant to confront Iran now, how would we deal with the mullahs in Tehran when they have nuclear weapons? Time is not on our side. America must stand with Israel as it confronts the existential threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.
Courting The Faithful At The Conventions
Cardinal Timothy Dolan is no stranger to controversy. As the head of America's Catholic Church, Dolan has been a staunch defender of traditional values, as well as an outspoken critic of Obama's contraception mandate, which forces religious institutions to violate their core values. Last week Dolan made headlines when it was announced that he would be delivering the closing prayer at the Republican National Convention. Some saw it as an endorsement of Mitt Romney.
But the New York Post reported Friday that Cardinal Dolan had reached out to the Democrats "a few weeks ago" with an offer to deliver the benediction at the Democratic National Convention as well, so as to avoid any appearance of partisan favor. According to the cardinal's spokesman, he received no response.
The Post's report and the perceived slight to the nation's top Catholic cleric evidently got the attention of the DNC. It was announced today that Cardinal Dolan will be permitted to pray at the Democratic National Convention after all. How tolerant of them.
Meanwhile, there are reports that as many as 20,000 Muslims will be gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina, this Friday in advance of the Democratic National Convention for their prayer event. But the real purpose of the two-hour event is to draw attention to "Islamophobia" and anti-terrorism policies in the United States. Dr. Zuhdi Jasser of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy warns:
"It is troubling that the Democratic National Convention has decided to promote and lend its name and national political platform to the organizers of the 'Jummah at the DNC.' The leaders of this event -- Jibril Hough and Imam Siraj Wahhaj as advertised are no moderates. They are radicals. These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies."
RJC Praises Republican Party Platform
Washington, D.C. (August 28, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition today praised the 2012 Republican Party platform, entitled "We Believe in America."

That's a billion reasons for AARP to betray seniors and support Obama's bill.
The report found that while AARP offers a Medicare Advantage plan through United Healthcare, it does so under a flat-fee licensing agreement that would give the company the same revenue even following savage cuts to Medicare Advantage.
Its Medigap policies, on the other hand, are its biggest cash cow and AARP makes money with every policy sold. It was a win-win for AARP's bottom line, but at a devastating cost to the seniors it pretends to represent.
Sweetening the deal for AARP, the bill created a special, AARP-specific carve-out exempting its Medigap policies from the rate regulations applied to its competitors."

Threatened with being proclaimed "enemies of Islam [and becoming] fair game as objects of violence" should they rebel against their Muslim masters, dhimmis can forever be counted on to bend a knee in "chastened subservience" to the murderous legions of Allah. As the Republican National Convention gets underway, Mitt Romney is being blasted for not pursuing eligibility concerns for Barack Obama, and merely making a joke about it.
As we say a sad farewell to the Constitution, "Let's crack a limp joke, limply apologize and limply lose the election."
Ann Romney is one of the most impressive "wife of a candidate" I can recall. I first noticed her during a C-SPAN broadcast in late 2007 in which a number of such wives, including Michelle Obama, discussed their lives and their roles. Ann Romney stood out along with, to be fair, the late Elizabeth Edwards.
Ms. Romney was equally impressive the only time I saw her in person. That was in April of this year at an event for conservative new media types at which she and her husband both spoke.
Tomight, Ann Romney will deliver a speech on behalf of said husband. These speeches have become obligatory at conventions and probably tend to be discounted, not without justification. However, I believe Ann Romney may be able to move the needle to the benefit of Mitt.
Here are a few excerpts from her prepared remarks:
...Tonight I want to talk to you from my heart about our hearts.
I want to talk not about what divides us, but what holds us together as an American family. I want to talk to you tonight about that one great thing that unites us, that one thing that brings us our greatest joy when times are good, and the deepest solace in our dark hours.
Tonight I want to talk to you about love...
I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a "storybook marriage." Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once. And those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or Breast Cancer.
A storybook marriage? No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage...
At every turn in his life, this man I met at a high school dance, has helped lift up others. He did it with the Olympics, when many wanted to give up...
This is the man America needs. This is the man who will wake up every day with the determination to solve the problems that others say can't be solved, to fix what others say is beyond repair. This is the man who will work harder than anyone so that we can work a little less hard.
I can't tell you what will happen over the next four years. But I can only stand here tonight, as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an American, and make you this solemn commitment:
The mainstream media have been utterly in the tank for Obama. One sign of this fact is that to this date he has not been asked what he was doing when he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia and the Emperor of Japan. His then press spokesman simply lied about Obama's behavior when asked by a member of the press. White House press spokesman Robert Gibbs denied what any fool could see. Indeed, one astute observer commented on CNN that "Ray Charles could see that he bowed."
Those bows signify. Among other things, they were deeply un-American. Americans don't bow to royalty. When the royalty is the ruling tyrant of a despotic regime, the wrong is compounded.
We won't be coming to you live from Tampa this year, as none of us made the trek to Florida for the convention. But we'll be doing the next best thing-hanging out at Power Line Live, the web site that is like a tavern where like-minded people gather to discuss the news. With the help of the mainstream media, President Obama has been able to pass himself off as a successful president when it comes to foreign policy. Republicans don't buy this line, of course, but neither do they push back much. Given Obama's record on the economy, they don't need to.
For the record, though, here is a good, albeit partial, list of Obama's major foreign policy failures, as set forth by Bret Stephens in the Wall Street Journal:
His failed personal effort to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago. His failed personal effort to negotiate a climate-change deal at Copenhagen in 2009. His failed efforts to strike a nuclear deal with Iran that year and this year. His failed effort to improve America's public standing in the Muslim world with the now-forgotten Cairo speech. His failed reset with Russia. His failed effort to strong-arm Israel into a permanent settlement freeze. His failed (if half-hearted) effort to maintain a residual U.S. military force in Iraq. His failed efforts to cut deals with the Taliban and reach out to North Korea. His failed effort to win over China and Russia for even a symbolic U.N. condemnation of Syria's Bashar Assad. His failed efforts to intercede in Europe's economic crisis.
Rick Richman at Commentary supplements the list by reminding us of Obama's foreign policy "successes" that were really failures:
His successful personal effort to insult the head of state and prime minister of America's closest ally (as well as removing the bust of its wartime prime minister from the Oval Office); his successful personal effort to put daylight between the U.S. and Israel; his successful effort to ostracize Honduras for enforcing its constitution against a Hugo Chavez wannabe; his successful effort to become the first U.S. president to chair a UN meeting; his successful effort to ignore the efforts of Iranian citizens protesting the stolen 2009 presidential election and then ignore seriatim deadlines for Iran to accept his outstretched hand; his successful efforts to oppose Congressional attempts to strengthen Iran sanctions, while touting each round of non-crippling sanctions as the "toughest ever"; his successful effort to ward off pressure to visit Israel from liberal Israeli columnists, Jewish Democrats in Congress, and friendly rabbis; his successful effort to jettison a U.S. ally in Egypt and reportedly invite the new Pharaoh to the U.S.; . . . . his successful effort to delay executing an already-negotiated free trade agreement with the closest U.S. ally in Latin America; his successful effort to improve relations with Mexico by suing Arizona on its behalf; his successful effort to build a knee-slapping relationship with Dmitri Medvedev to deliver a deferred flexibility message to Vladimir; and his winning a Nobel Peace Prize for not being Bush.
To these lists, I would add Obama's tilt toward Pakistan and alienation of India, as discussed here and here.
That's quite a record for less than four years. Try to imagine what Obama will do in four much less constrained, much more "flexible" ones.
There has been a lot of buzz about the fact that one prime speaking slot at the GOP convention has been left open. The party has released a detailed schedule for all three nights that identifies every speaker, every video, every prayer, every song. But there is just one exception: a speaker on Thursday evening is listed as "to be announced." Here is a screen shot of that part of the schedule. As you can see, the only speakers who follow the mystery guest are Marco Rubio, introducing Mitt Romney, and Romney himself. That will likely place the "to be announced" speaker within the one hour that will be broadcast by the television networks.
So the speech is obviously expected to be a big deal. Who can it be? Romney's aides say they don't know. The obvious speakers, from Chris Christie to Tim Pawlenty to Condoleezza Rice, already have slots. George W. Bush is appearing by video, and Dick Cheney has said he isn't attending.
Many have speculated that it could be Sarah Palin, who otherwise is not scheduled to speak. I think the chance of that happening is zero. There is no way Romney wants to give reporters the opportunity to make their coverage of the convention's climactic evening all about Sarah.
So who will it be? My guess is that it will be a prominent Democrat who announces his support for Romney. How prominent? I don't have any candidates in mind, but I'm sure it will be someone who carries more weight than Charlie Crist, the discredited party switcher who will be highlighted by the Democrats in Charlotte.

Most weeks aren't good for Chris Matthews, but this one has been exceptionally rough on the MSNBC host. 'What goes on in there?' Brian Williams is really scared of Mormons
The media wasn't interested in Obama's spiritual mentor & pastor for 20 years. You know, the one who routinely says things like "U.S. KKK of A." in his sermons -- but now they are all over Mormonism. NBC produced a "special" on the religion which featured jaded former Mormons and an over-dramatic Brian Williams, who breathlessly questioned: "I can't get into the Mormon Temple...What goes on in there...?"
