Congressman Trent Franks - Arizona 2nd District Takes to House Floor : States that Iran now has all necessary components of nuclear weapon... is the Administration planning an October Surprise?
Washington, D.C. -- After the House of Representatives voted yesterday on legislation to sanction the Iranian regime, last night Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) once again took to the House Floor to give a 25 minute speech in which he explains in detail how the Administration has fundamentally compromised America's national security by repeatedly squandering every opportunity over the last 3 1/2 years to stop Iran's nuclear program.

Isaac's Menace Forces GOP to Scrap First Day of Convention
Saturday, 25 Aug 2012
Republican officials abruptly announced plans Saturday night to scrap the first day of their national convention in Tampa, bowing to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac as it bore down menacingly on Florida.
"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance," tweeted Mitt Romney, his formal nomination as presidential candidate pushed back by a minimum of 24 hours from Monday night to Tuesday.
Bashar Assad's wretched presence in the presidential palace of Damascus may, contrary to Western assumptions, do more good than harm. His murderous, terroristic and pro-Tehran regime is nonideological and relatively secular; it staves off anarchy, Islamist rule, genocide and rogue control of Syria's chemical weapons.
As Syria's civil war intensifies, Western states increasingly are helping the rebels overthrow Mr. Assad and his henchmen. In doing so, the West hopes to save lives and facilitate a democratic transition. Many Western voices call for more than the nonlethal aid now being offered, wanting to arm the rebels, set up safe zones and even join their war against the government.
Helping the rebels, however, neglects a fundamental question: Does intervention in Syria against Mr. Assad promote our own interests? This obvious question is missed because many Westerners feel so confident about their own well-being that they forget their security and instead focus on the concerns of those they perceive as weak and exploited, whether human (e.g., indigenous peoples or the poor) or animals (whales and snail darters). Westerners have developed sophisticated mechanisms to act on these concerns (e.g., responsibility to protect, animal rights activism).
For those of us not so confident, however, fending off threats to our security and our civilization remains a top priority. In this light, helping the rebels entails multiple drawbacks for the West.
When Professor Paul Kengor was on Sean Hannity's radio show and later on Bill O'Reilly's Fox News program, the hosts went out of their way to make sure that the author of the new book, The Communist, about Barack Obama's mentor, was not saying that Obama himself was a communist. It was almost as if Kengor had been warned not to get too personal with his revelations. He was allowed to talk about Frank Marshall Davis being a communist who loved Joseph Stalin, but when the subject turned to Obama, who was under Davis's influence for eight years, it was clear that this was another and more sensitive matter. This was getting dangerously close to taboo territory.
Why do self-styled conservative media personalities feel it necessary to protect the President?
With more than four years of research into Davis, and more revelations coming, the burden of proof is on Barack Obama to prove that his communist connections, which continued from his growing-up years in Hawaii to college to Chicago, were the result of innocence or naïveté. That will be hard for him to do, since he concealed the identity of Davis in his memoir, Dreams from My Father, calling him just "Frank" and depicting him as a poet and writer. He knew that Frank Marshall Davis was an associate and mentor and that he had to protect his communist identity from public scrutiny.
A better treatment of the matter came on Mark Levin's radio show, where the hard-hitting conservative host permitted Kengor to discuss how Davis influenced Obama, including his policies and statements as President. "This is very, very important," Levin noted, as he extended his interview with Kengor to an additional segment. Levin called the book "compelling" and "outstanding."
We sent out an email late last night which included a request for volunteers to help with the Presidential Candidate Petition Fraud Detection Project.
The project has been extended until August 30 and we could really use your help!
Please read (re-read) the portion of last night's original email regarding the project's development. (It has been revised to include the correct dates for next week's project extension.)
August 23, 2012, 9 PM
Dear Friends,
We're heading into day 5 of the Presidential Candidate Petition Fraud Detection Project.
At least 30 members and friends of the Independence Hall Tea Party have volunteered and the effort has produced results.
As of Wednesday, all the PA Constitutional Party candidates, including Presidential Candidate Virgil Goode, have been knocked off the PA ballot due to their refusal to contest the challenge mounted by the Republican Party.
Obviously, an overwhelming number of the Constitutional Party petitions were invalid and could not be defended.
The challenge to the PA Libertarian Party candidates will continue thru next Thursday,
August 30.
Remember, a lot of the signatures for both third party candidates were gathered by Democrats eager to siphon thousands of votes away from Mitt Romney in the November election.
The election in the Keystone State is expected to be extremely close and we mustn't allow President Obama to win PA 20 Electoral votes in this fashion.
Where: Phila. Voter Registration Office, 520 N. Delaware Ave. (@ Spring Garden) 19123
If you are able to cover any of the above shifts or if you can spend the day, please call Don at 215.620.3055.
We'd like to thank all of those who have already volunteered for this extremely important project--and we look forward to working with any of you who would like to take part in this effort.
On behalf of the PAC Board of Delegates,
Don Adams
New Campaign launched by former CIA, Special Operations Members to combat leaks and politicization of National Security Info
Kicks Off Nationwide With Release Of Documentary Short Film Titled "Dishonorable Disclosures"
Former CIA and Special Operations members are announcing the creation of OPSEC, a new nationwide public campaign to combat the spike in leaks and politicization of Intelligence and Special Operations missions that threaten their effectiveness and the safety of Americans who conduct them. OPSEC - short for Operational Security, meaning to eliminate or reduce the exploitation of critical information - will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a new documentary short film highlighting the problem from the perspective of those who have served in these critical positions. The film will also serve as the basis for a TV and online advertising effort.
"Intelligence and Special Operations members are angry and frustrated at how our work has been used for political advantage by officials across government, including President Obama himself who bears special responsibility as Commander in Chief," said Scott Taylor, chairman of OPSEC and a former Navy SEAL. "We want the American people to understand the cost of these leaks and politicization both on those who serve and on our national security and to hold those in positions of leadership accountable if it doesn't stop."
OPSEC is made up of individuals who served their country in the CIA, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) consisting of Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations. It is organized as a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan public education campaign and is independent of any political party or campaign organization.
The campaign will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a documentary short film that views the impact of the increasing number of leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions, tradecraft, tactics and capabilities from the perspective of those who have relied on these tools to carryout similar missions and protect themselves and those they served alongside. The film will be shown at events in key states across the country over the next several months, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada. "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be seen here.
"Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk," said Fred Rustmann, an OPSEC member and 24-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency. "OPSEC will carry a strong message across the country that it's time for President Obama and other administration officials to stop jeopardizing national security operations for political gain."
More information about OPSEC and news about the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be found at http://www.opsecteam.org/.
Dishonorable Disclosures
Former Special Ops officers from four separate branches of the military have joined ranks for one specific purpose - to remove Barack Obama from office.
And now they need your help to do it.
Dear Fellow American,
During World War II, they had a poster up in every defense plant and military base in America.
It didn't mince words; it told it straight --
"Loose lips sink ships."
Well, now our nation is saddled with a Commander in Chief who just doesn't seem to get that message. Or, if he does, he simply doesn't care.
Let me lay it on the line: Barack Obama's loose lips are doing worse than sinking ships - they're putting our entire nation at risk.
And if you and I don't get this man out of office, he's going to destroy our military, undermine every ally we have, and arm our enemies to the teeth.
All for his own sorry political purposes.
That's why I am asking you to join me now in helping the Special Operations Speaks (SOS) PAC launch a nationwide campaign to remove Barack Obama from office. Before it's too late.
Demand Congress Hold the Obama 'Leakers' Accountable
Now, I'm going to give it to you straight. Because after 27 years as a Navy SEAL officer - including serving as Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Center, where our proud Navy SEALS train - I don't know any other way.
And, I think you deserve to know the truth.
Barack Obama has waged war on America's military from the day he took office.
He's already cut our defense budget so deeply that his own Secretary of Defense called it "devastating" to our national security. And the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff warned that because of Obama's cuts, "we would no longer be a global power."
Yet, while he is out gutting our military and yanking the guns from our troops' hands, he is also taking credit for every move our brave soldiers make.
All for political gain - even when it puts their lives at high risk.
Frankly, as a 27-year SEAL officer, that makes me angry. And I have a feeling it does you, too.
And that's why SOS needs your help now to bring the Obama travesty to an end.
A little over a year ago, when SEAL Team 6 took out Osama bin Laden, Barack Obama couldn't wait to scurry before the cameras and take full credit.
I'm sure you remember that sorry spectacle. His whole speech was "I" ..."I" ... "I" ... "I" ... "I."
As if he were the one who led the raid. As if he were the one who risked his life. As if he were the one covering his buddies' backs as they fought their way into that compound and back out.
Well, I can assure you that Barack Obama was not there. Those brave soldiers didn't need him. And they wouldn't have wanted him.
And there's something else they wouldn't have wanted either - Barack Obama blowing their cover the way he did.
Demand Congress Hold the Obama 'Leakers' Accountable
Barack Obama's loose lips took away the vital secrecy Navy SEALS need to continue their undercover missions.
And because he rushed to get in front of the cameras before the SEALS could even analyze the materials they had recovered, he also destroyed any chance for an effective follow-up.
All because Barack Obama wanted to make himself look tough - at the shameless expense of those who actually are.
Now, a year later, we find out that while Obama was out front blowing military secrets, his staff was behind the scenes doing the same.
His Administration's backroom release of top secret documents to The New York Times has jeopardized covert operations worldwide. All for the cheapest of political purposes.
And it's time you and I put a stop to it.
That's why I am asking you now to help SOS expose the full truth about Barack Obama's war on America's military - and his administration's continuing, deliberate release of top secret security documents.
I want you to know that every one of the men and women who has joined me to organize Special Operations Speaks is a former member of our nation's Special Forces. Some are SEALS, some are Rangers, some are Air Commandos and some are Green Berets. The rest belong to other Special Ops units.
So, we know what happens when the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines we have trained and served with have their cover blown, their tactics revealed, and their operations compromised.
Let's just say, when that happens, Barack Obama's loose lips don't just sink ships - they cost lives. The sacred lives of the best and the brightest.
The mainstream media, as I'm sure you've seen, is doing all that it can to follow Barack Obama's campaign script and portray him as some sort of brave warrior.
Day after day they ignore or cover up his "devastating" defense cuts, his phony chest-pounding, and his deadly revelations of America's top secrets.
And, unfortunately, millions and millions of Americans are not being told the truth.
That's why my fellow former Special Operations officers and NCO's and I have, in essence, come out of retirement one more time to strap on the gear and fulfill our oaths.
Demand Congress Hold the Obama 'Leakers' Accountable
We are already working with key Senate and House leaders to demand full congressional hearings into the Obama intelligence leaks.
And we're prepared to launch a nationwide media blitz - TV ads, radio ads, news releases, and personal appearances throughout the country - to make sure the American people learn the full truth about Barack Obama's war on America's military.
I can promise you: We won't rest until the job is done. That's not our way.
But, to do all of this - and more - SOS needs your help today. The truth is, we can't do it without you. You are our back-up. You are our supply line.
So, I urge you, please give as generously as you can to help launch the Special Operations Speaks campaign.
Your gift of $25, $50, $100 - or more if you possibly can - will help assure that my fellow special operators and I can cover the backs of America's troops worldwide as they fight for our freedom.
And, together, you and I can help make sure we once again have a President who puts liberty before loose lips and our nation's welfare before political gain.
I can't wait to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Larry Bailey, CAPT (SEAL), USN (Ret.)
PS: Like most Navy officers, the date of June 15, 1985, is seared in my memory. That's the date Islamic terrorists hijacked TWA Flight 847 and brutally tortured Navy Seabee Robert Stethem to death. All he had to do was scream out for mercy, and he would have been allowed to live. But he refused to utter a sound.
The pilot of Flight 847 later said, "He was the bravest man I've ever seen in my life."
Bob Stethem's brother was a Navy SEAL; I know him. So, I know something of the stuff of which he was made. Warriors like him don't scream out, they don't beg for mercy, and they don't ask for help.
And that's why my fellow former Special Operations officers and I are asking for your help on their behalf today.
In 2008, when he was running for president, Barack Obama promised his leftwing supporters that if they helped him get elected, "I will slow the development of future combat systems."
That's one of the only campaign promises he has kept. And it has placed our brave warriors in harm's way.
Your gift of $25, $50, $100 - even $1,000 or more if you can possibly spare it - will help our Special Operations Speaks PAC bring an end to Barack Obama's war on the military. So, I urge you, please give as generously as you can.

Stop the Establishment from Rewriting the RNC Rules
As you may know the Romney camp is pushing new rules that would strip grassroots activists of any meaningful ability to participate in presidential politics. The process has always been bottom-up, but Romney officials have rewritten the rules so that the nominee can stifle any dissent on the platform committee and even unseat delegates. Make no mistake, this will weaken the process by which Republicans chose their candidate for president and push the grassroots out of the party process.
Please locate the phone number of your State Republican Party Headquarters below, call them immediately, and tell them to oppose Romney's new rules that strip grassroots activists of the ability to participate in the Republican platform process. Call Here

Please give your attention to this important announcement from the Senate Conservatives Fund. From time to time, we send you content on behalf of third parties we believe may be of interest to you and we believe this one deserves your attention.
Fellow Conservatives:
If you want to stop the massive growth of our federal government and save America's future, we must change the United States Senate.
Harry Reid and the Democrats control the Senate today and, unfortunately, we still have too many Republicans who lack the courage to fight for our nation's founding principles.
As a Senator who works each day to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are destroying our country, I can tell you that we desperately need conservative reinforcements.
This is why I founded the Senate Conservatives Fund back in 2008 and it's why SCF is working so hard today to elect a new group of leaders in 2012 who will fight to turn this country around.
The Senate Conservatives Fund has endorsed eight conservative candidates who will help strip Harry Reid of control of the Senate and fight the liberal policies that are bankrupting our country.
Josh Mandel Ohio
Jeff Flake Arizona
Richard Mourdock Indiana
Ted Cruz Texas
Deb Fischer Nebraska
George Allen Virginia
Tom Smith Pennsylvania
Dan Bongino Maryland
These eight candidates are unique in that they have conservative records, have earned support from the grassroots in their states, and have the courage to stand up for our values -- even if it means going against their own party's leadership.
These candidates support all of SCF's policy goals, including:
Cutting spending to balance the budget
Repealing Obamacare entirely
Securing the borders and oppose amnesty
Stopping corporate bailouts
Banning earmarks
Establishing term limits
Defending the 2nd Amendment
Protecting human life
The Senate Conservatives Fund is doing two important things to help its endorsed candidates win in November.
First, SCF is raising money for each of the candidates from donors all across the nation. Money alone does not win elections, but the lack of money can certainly lose them.
Second, SCF is running powerful TV and radio ads to counter the opposition and drive home our side's message of economic freedom and prosperity.
So if you want to do something really meaningful and effective to save our country, please support the Senate Conservatives Fund and its endorsed candidates TODAY.
SCF makes it possible for you to donate directly to its eight endorsed candidates so they receive 100% of your donations.
This is a very unique approach for a third-party group and it shows exactly how committed SCF is to helping these candidates. It's also why the POLITICO newspaper called SCF a "wildly successful small-donor fundraising machine."
These are exceptional candidates who have overcome long odds to get this far, and now they urgently need your help to win in November.
Time is running out and we must work together to send true conservative leaders to Washington this year.
Thank you for doing what you can to help turn this country around.
Sincerely,
Jim DeMint United States Senator
P.S. If we're going to save America, we must fire Harry Reid and change the United States Senate. Without a conservative Senate, we'll never stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are destroying this great country.

Sept. 11, 2012: Come to Pamela Geller's Free Speech SION event at the UN Plaza in New York City
If you're anywhere near New York on 9/11, check out this invitation to attend Pamela Geller's FREE SPEECH event
SION to Hold International Congress and Media Workshop to Address Islamic Supremacist War Against Free Speech
The world's leading forces for freedom will be there. There is a suggested contribution of $36 per person. Register now, space is limited. September 11, 2012, UN Plaza Millenium Hotel, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
NEW YORK: The first session of the International Freedom Defense Congress, the operating body of the human rights organization Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), will be held in New York on September 11, 2012. The principal focus of the Congress will be a media workshop pertaining to Islamic supremacist attempts to restrict the freedom of speech in the free world, and the smear campaigns against freedom fighters in newspapers and media institutions in the West.
"The objective of this first-of-its-kind workshop is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns," SION said in a statement. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions, as epitomized in March 2012 by the New York Times' running of an anti-Catholic smear ad and rejection of a SION ad telling the truth about Islamic jihad.
It said the workshop will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims, which it added still occur from time to time.
"The workshop will represent a quantum leap in media action, as it discusses, beyond rhetoric, the practical steps to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech," SION President Pamela Geller said. Fighting Back in the War on Free SpeechPamela Geller, March 18, 2012
Freedom fighters from all over the globe, journalists, intellectuals and academicians will be among the participants in the workshop, which will consist of brainstorming sessions to develop mechanisms for cooperation with external partners, and to develop an action plan to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.
The organization noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.
Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.
This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.
"We are holding this Congress on the eleventh anniversary of the day jihad came to America in order to strike a blow for freedom," Geller said.
SION President Geller is the author of Stop Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books) and The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War On America (Simon & Schuster). SION Vice President is the acclaimed author and Islam expert, Robert Spencer, author of the New York Times bestsellers, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad (both Regnery).

Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Peco has stopped installing Smart Meters which are part of UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). If you have had a Smart Meter installed on your home, you should immediately call Peco and tell them to remove it. These fires have been reported in other states after the meters were installed.
For those that have already had the Smart Meter installed on their home, Peco will return, test the meter, and place a warning sign on the meter with a device that should a fire start, the meter will shut off. New reports are that Peco has switched overnight to another provider for these meters, assuring the public that these will be safe. Are we to trust this company, the same one that put fire hazards on 186,000 homes in PA?
Now is the time to act! The ball is in our court. I will be trying to go up to Harrisburg in September to push to get legislation out of committee. Maybe we are being given time to stop part of UN agenda 21.
Call PECO and tell them no to the "new technology" meters.
Thank you.

Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):
We have 71 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.
If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent
nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.
We do not have to travel down this road. We can change the course. You can help steer America in the right direction.

Today I am proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking documentary that will rattle the political establishment. Citizens United Productions' newest film "The Hope and The Change" examines the surprising journey of forty Americans - Democrats and Independents - who supported and voted for President Obama four years ago.
The powerful voices in "The Hope and The Change" will resonate with many citizens across the country who are disillusioned with the Presidency of Barack Obama. This persuasive documentary will change many minds and get people off the fence and into the game.
That is why it is so important for as many people as possible to see it. The film will premiere during the RNC in Tampa next Tuesday (please register for free tickets NOW at www.CitizensUnited.org/RNC) and is set for a limited theatrical release in September.
This 60 minute documentary follows the daily lives of hard-working Democrats and Independents through unscripted and unrehearsed interviews. Viewers will see how their nation's economy and society has changed over the past four years under the policies of President Obama.
The diverse cast of "The Hope and The Change" encompasses a broad cross-section of America's racial and socio-economic spectrum who come from seven swing states that experts say will decide the 2012 presidential election. Writer/Director Stephen K. Bannon and I traveled to Colorado,
Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to search out these authentic American stories from citizens who have lost faith in their President.
President Obama campaigned in 2008 on "Hope" and "Change" but these stories reflect the sentiment across America that the country has changed for the worse. The voices of everyday Americans in this film will have a major impact on the debates that are currently raging across America.
I have some very exciting news! Citizens United Productions has just announced an all rights distribution deal for our newest film Occupy Unmasked with Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, owned by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner. Magnet is giving the film a limited theatrical release with VOD in late September to be followed by the DVD release. I've attached the full press release at the bottom of this email.
While the Liberal establishment and mainstream media portray the Occupy Wall Street movement as organic and nonviolent, Occupy Unmasked reveals the sinister, organized, and highly orchestrated nature of its leaders and their number one goal: Not just to change government, but to destroy it.
Led by hugely influential conservative visionary, the late Andrew Breitbart, Occupy Unmasked delves deep beneath the surface of the Occupy movement to show its dark anarchist roots. Behind the largely naïve students and legitimately concerned citizens looking for answers stand those who advocate the use of violence, black bloc operations, and intimidation as protest tactics - the same tactics they used during the anti-war protests of the 1960's, anti-nuclear weapons protests of the 80's, WTO protests of the 90's, and the IMF protests of recent years.
Former leftists turned patriotic citizen journalists Brandon Darby, David Horowitz, Pam Keys, Anita MonCrief, Mandy Nagy, Lee Stranahan, and others take viewers into the Occupy camps around the country to see first-hand the truth of what is happening and who is at the heart of the movement. Exclusive footage and eyewitness accounts tell the story of the criminal activity and raw brutality in the camps - much of which has not been reported by the mainstream media.
Directed by Stephen K. Bannon (The Undefeated, Generation Zero), Occupy Unmasked is an eye-opening look at a startling movement that could have a dangerous impact on the future of America.
New York, August 6, 2012 - The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnet Releasing announced today an all rights distribution deal for Citizens United Productions' documentary OCCUPY UNMASKED, one of the last projects featuring the late conservative icon Andrew Breitbart. OCCUPY UNMASKED was written and directed by award-winning director Stephen K. Bannon and produced by David N. Bossie. Magnet is giving the film a limited theatrical release day and date with VOD in late September.
"This film is controversial, and that's exactly the reason we want to ensure it can find its audience prior to the November elections," said Mark Cuban, co-owner of Magnet. "I look forward to our partnership with Citizens United Productions and to getting this film out to the masses."
OCCUPY UNMASKED takes viewers into the Occupy Wall Street camps around the country in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Portland, Denver and Oakland for an up-close look at what's happened there and who's at the heart of the movement, documenting criminal activity and raw brutality in the camps - much of which has not been reported by the mainstream media. In addition to Andrew Breitbart, the film features journalists Brandon Darby, David Horowitz, Pam Keys, Anita MonCrief, Mandy Nagy, and Lee Stranahan.
"I am proud to announce that Citizens United Productions is teaming up with Mark Cuban and Magnet to distribute OCCUPY UNMASKED, and elevate the film the Left does not want the American people to see," said Producer David N. Bossie. "This distribution deal will keep the groundbreaking work of the late conservative icon Andrew Breitbart alive for years to come."
"As a dear friend of Andrew's, I could not be more thrilled that this deal got completed and all Americans will have an opportunity to see one of Andrew Breitbart's final pieces of work," said writer/director Stephen K. Bannon. "This film is important because it sheds new light on the myth of the Occupy Wall Street movement. I know audiences across the country will be startled by what we uncovered in this explosive documentary."
When you think of the great presidential debates throughout history, there's Lincoln and Douglas in 1858, Kennedy and Nixon in 1960, and then there is Glenn's new live comedy stage show, Unelectable 2012.
Since Glenn couldn't personally visit every city in America on his Unelectable 2012 tour, he has decided that the final show will be simulcast LIVE in movie theaters all over the country, probably one in your town! Watch Glenn drown in his own sweat while you relax in air conditioning, eating nachos and Milk Duds.
This is an amazingly funny show, the kind of presidential debate that you'll never actually see because Glenn plays a candidate who tells the truth! Joined by the writers and performers of GBTV's sketch comedy show, The B.S. of A., many are saying it could be the funniest show Glenn's ever done, and it ends with an inspiring message that will have you on your feet full of hope. It's a night of fun the whole family can enjoy! With the election season we've got in front of us, this may be the only "funny-on-purpose" thing related to politics for years to come.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE PEOPLE?
"In the United States, government requires not merely the consent of the governed. It rests ultimately on the ability of the people to govern themselves."
As the presidential election approaches, the choices before our nation have never been more critical. The final volume in the Understanding America series, What is the Role of the People?
, examines the great responsibility the Founders bestowed upon us, the American people.
The Founders built the United States on the fundamental principle that we have the right to govern ourselves. To govern effectively, we must ensure our society's continued virtue and freedom, and pass the inheritance of freedom on to each new generation.
Authored by Heritage Foundation President Edwin Feulner, this final volume in the
Understanding Americaseries explores how and why we must live up to our responsibilities in maintaining the Founders' vision. Learn more in What is the Role of the People?
What Is America's Role In the World? The United States' foreign policy exists, first and foremost, to defend the independence and interests of its people. But America also has a unique responsibility to uphold and advance the universal principles of liberty upon which it was founded. This volume provides insight into how the Founders' understanding of liberty shaped their vision for foreign policy. Read More
How Must America Practice Diplomacy? This volume in the Understanding America series examines how the principles of liberty that define America must also guide its practice of diplomacy. Read More
How Must America Balance Security and Liberty? America's Founders recognized that the nation's security and its peoples' liberty are not opposed. Rather, security is necessary for the flourishing of liberty. Since its founding, America has promoted security and protected liberty by pursuing policies that strengthen both. This volume in the Understanding America series explores the ways in which the Constitution's Framers sought to protect liberty, and shows that the goals of ensuring security and respecting liberty can and must be reconciled. The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet,The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Liberty & Fairness Implode As RNC Rules Committee Wields Iron Fist
The Preamble to the Rules of the Republican Party state, "Be it resolved, that the Republican Party is the party of the Open door. Ours is the party of liberty, the party of equality, of opportunity for all, and favoritism for none. It is the intent and purpose of these rules to encourage and allow the broadest possible participation of all voters in Republican Party activities at all levels and to assure that the Republican Party is open and accessible to all Americans."
As the committee was ready to adjourn yesterday, Florence Sebern, delegate from Colorado, bravely moved to strike the Preamble, as, "It's inconsistent with what we did today."
Her succinct comment was appropriate, and reflected in Jeremy Blosser's comments today. Blosser, a delegate from Texas, has been attending all the GOP committee meetings coordinating, and encouraging liberty delegate members, in their efforts to bring fairness to the RNC. He writes:
"Manipulating concerns of many in the party mainstream over the success Ron Paul's supporters had becoming delegates this cycle, the DC insiders led by the Romney campaign are staging a complete takeover of the national Republican Party from the conservative wing and ensuring they will never lose power again."
Romney campaign attorneys and other operatives ran a large set of changes through the convention rules committee on Friday. The vast majority of which were not discussed prior in the RNC Standing Rules committee. Two changes stand out far beyond the rest and must be defeated on the floor of the convention if we do not want to see the grassroots shut out of the party for decades to come.
This week TTV saw the beginning of what will be a prolonged attempt to discredit its work. Here's the play: organizations with a financial interest in blocking election integrity efforts buy journalists to attack those who stand against them. Marginal bloggers then parrot the purchased pulp increasingly, until the likes of MSNBC take notice. What we end up seeing is really not to be believed. Case in point, Rachel Maddow.

Election Day Registration Bill, AB 1436was reported out of committee. This bill establishes "conditional voter registration," which allows a person to register to vote after the registration deadline and vote a provisional ballot that will be counted if an election clerk determines that the voter is eligible.
Voter Registration Bill, SB 35 was amended and reported out of committee. This bill would designate the California Health Benefit Exchange as a voter registration agency.
Voter Registration Bill, AB 145 was withdrawn from committee and re-referred to Rules Committee. This bill would prohibit any person, company, or other organization from agreeing to pay money or other valuable consideration on a per-affidavit basis to any person who assists another person to register to vote. A violation of these prohibitions would be a misdemeanor. This bill would provide that this notification is required when three or more affidavits submitted by the person assisting each reflects a violation of one or more of those provisions.
List Maintenance Bill, AB 216 was read a second time. This bill would permit a county elections official to contract with a consumer credit reporting agency to obtain change-of-address data for the purpose of updating voter registration information.
Conduct of Elections Bill, AB 2054 was read a second time. This bill would allow a voter to return his or her vote by mail ballot to a precinct board at any polling place within the state. The bill would require the elections official to forward the ballot to the elections official who issued the ballot.
Voter Registration Bill, SCR 81 is pending in the Senate. This measure would proclaim September 25, 2012, as Voter Registration Day, and would encourage all eligible Californians to register to vote by that date.
Voter Registration Bill, SJR 29 was referred to the Committee on Elections and Redistricting. This measure would proclaim the Legislature's support for the investigation by the federal Department of Justice into whether state legislatures are discriminating against and suppressing the vote of minorities, senior citizens, young adults, or those with physical disabilities or limited economic means, and the measure would further denounce any law that disenfranchises society's most disadvantaged eligible voters.

Dear Linda, In 2012 our Constitution is under assault like never before.
Even as I write, self-described Progressives are working to subvert the Constitution to replace it with an ever more expansive and intrusive bureaucratic despotism.
My name is Larry Arnn and I'm the President of Hillsdale College. You might have heard Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and other conservative radio hosts talk about Hillsdale College.
The ongoing radical Progressive agenda poses a serious threat to the survival of free government in our great nation. At Hillsdale, we believe that a massive, nationwide education project to promote America's founding principles is the only way to defeat this Progressive agenda.
As one of our most loyal supporters, you've been an important part of Hillsdale's effort to educate Americans on the importance of preserving our Constitution.
That's why I want you to be one of the first to know about our brand new online course:
The first class begins on Tuesday, September 4 and the final one will occur during the week of the national elections in November. I hope you'll sign up immediately.
In this no-cost, ten-week course, you'll learn from members of Hillsdale's politics department faculty - some of the nation's top scholars on the Constitution - about the history of Progressivism and how the movement has slowly chiseled away at our freedoms over the past century.
With Hillsdale's outstanding reputation as a leading academic institution, this course offers you a unique educational experience that you won't be able to get anywhere else.
Earlier this year Hillsdale offered its first online course on the Constitution. And in doing so it made a major impact with more than 275,000 Americans registering for "Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution." We expect our newest course - The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism - to attract even more attention. And I hope you will be one of the registrants!
Here are the ten lecture topics for the course...
The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism
The Founders' Constitution and the Challenge of Progressivism Larry P. Arnn, Tuesday, September 4
Woodrow Wilson and the Rejection of the Founders' Principles, Part 1 Ronald J. Pestritto, Monday, September 10
Woodrow Wilson and the Rejection of the Founders' Principles, Part 2 Ronald J. Pestritto, Monday, September 17
Overview: Founders vs. Progressives Thomas G. West, Monday, September 24
FDR's New Bill of Rights Will Morrisey, Monday, October 1
Total Regulation: LBJ's Great Society Kevin Portteus, Monday, October 8
The Transformation of America's Political Institutions Kevin Portteus, Monday, October 15
Post-1960s Progressivism John Grant, Monday, October 22
Case Study: Religious Liberty in the Administrative State Thomas G. West, Monday, October 29
Restoring Constitutional Government Larry P. Arnn, Monday, November 5
Why is Hillsdale teaching a course on the Progressive movement?
Americans who believe in constitutional liberty and limited government need to understand what they're up against, so Hillsdale designed this course to teach Americans the history of Progressivism and how it continues to work to ignore and dismantle the U.S. Constitution.
From its intellectual origins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, to the massive government expansions under FDR's New Deal and LBJ's Great Society, to the third great expansion of big-government programs during the past three years, Progressives are making our country unrecognizable in comparison to the constitutional republic created by America's Founding Fathers.
To understand fully this attack on limited government constitutionalism, and thus to know what is needed to stem the tide, take Hillsdale's new online Constitution course, which starts on September 4 and concludes the week of the national elections in November.
AND, like all Hillsdale online courses, it will be archived online so that you can refer back to the lectures or access them at your leisure.
I have the privilege of delivering the first lecture, "The Founders' Constitution and the Challenge of Progressivism," and the final lecture, "Restoring Constitutional Government." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.
I am proud, thanks to your past support and the support of many patriotic Americans, that Hillsdale College is teaching hundreds of thousands of Americans about the Constitution and its principles of liberty. This course is crucial for all Americans who want to understand the dangers confronting the Constitution and its principles today. I hope YOU will join us for this important course!
As President of Hillsdale College, I have devoted my life to education, and in particular to teaching about the American founding, its underlying principles, and subsequent constitutional history.
The last chapter in that history, covering the past century, tells a story about how the progressive movement has undermined the Constitution and replaced it with a bureaucratic despotism - if we are to recover the Constitution, that story must be understood.
That is why we are offering this new course, free, to all Americans.
The more than 275,000 who signed up for our first constitution course last spring prove that Americans are willing and eager to study and defend the Constitution and the principles that made our country the most free and most prosperous in human history!
I hope you will sign up for our new course and help continue this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution.
This new online course, available at no charge to the public, is not without cost to Hillsdale. The College has already invested much to make this critical course a reality.
To make this course available nationwide will cost nearly $1,000,000. While a monumental expenditure for Hillsdale College, we consider it a duty to reach and teach as many students, citizens, and elected officials as possible during this year and beyond.
ACTION STEP #3: Please forward this email to friends and family and encourage them to enroll in this brand new course on The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism.
OUR CHALLENGE
With your help, Hillsdale College is dedicated to returning the Constitution to its rightful place at the center of American political life.
If our republic does not re-embrace the Constitution, we will not be able to reclaim the liberty that has been lost, and may yet lose the liberty we still have.
Hillsdale College has accepted this challenge, and our commitment to making this course available to citizens nationwide is proof. But we need you, as one of our best supporters, to help to make this possible. . .
As you may already know, in order to protect the integrity of its mission and prevent intrusive government regulation, Hillsdale College accepts no taxpayer funding whatsoever, even indirectly in the form of federal or state student grants or loans.
Your generosity at this critical time will not just help underwrite the cost of making this course available nationwide. It will also support all the other ways that Hillsdale College educates Americans to be defenders of liberty and self-government.
MY GIFT FOR YOU
In appreciation of your donation of $100 or more, I will send you a copy of the book used by our students in their one-semester course on the Constitution - The U.S. Constitution: A Reader.
This exhaustive, 790-page volume was compiled by our Politics Department faculty at Hillsdale. It's the perfect companion to all of Hillsdale's online courses on the Constitution. For a donation of $50, I'll send you a complimentary copy of my recently-published hardbound book. Its title is:
THE FOUNDERS' KEY: THE DIVINE AND NATURAL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DECLARATION AND THE CONSTITUTION AND WHAT WE RISK BY LOSING IT
In this book I explain the unique connection between America's two most important documents, how that connection has been severed today, and why we must repair it for the sake of freedom.

"Try this thought experiment. Imagine that someone grows up in poverty, works his way through law school by holding the night shift as a Capitol Hill policeman, and spends all but two years of his career as a public servant. Now imagine that this person's current salary - and he's at the top of his game - is $193,400. You probably wouldn't expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate."

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
This Is How an 'Anti-Slavery Crusade' Led to the Creation of the Republican Party
The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on August 27, 2012 at 7:18am
In was in the 1800s that the modern-day Republican Party's roots were set. In analyzing the movement's history, a fact that is sometimes overlooked is that anti-slavery sentiment and the overarching battle to extinguish the institution were at the center of the so-called Grand Old Party's (GOP) platform.
In fact, it was this epic battle - one that threatened to split the United States of America into two parts - that very literally led to the political party's formation.
"EMS" standing for "Emergency Medical Services," of course. Anyway, that's the claim - and let us not pretend that the Occupy Movement has not been fully converted into a front for the blackshirt anarchists, shall we? The following will be familiar to anyone who watched how the antiwar movement got hijacked by the exact same people.Read more »
In Ohio's Senate race, incumbent nut case Sherrod Brown recently complained on his website about all the outside groups running ads against him. And why not? Brown's average polling lead on my friend Josh Mandel is roughly within the margin of error less than 75 days out, with RealClearPolitics calling the race a toss-up in a key battleground state for the presidential candidates. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are virtually tied in Ohio, too. Blaming conservatives for their own dismal records is the strategy du cycle for Democrats.

The death of Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, takes place in the shadow of the death of the space program. Last year Armstrong had called the dismantling of the space program under Obama, leaving behind a shadow space agency: "embarrassing and unacceptable".
Armstrong had proposed not only future investments, but along with other astronauts had sensibly proposed retaining the space shuttle program until they were ready, instead of scrapping the shuttle program and distributing viable shuttles to museums. Armstrong was critical of the Bolden regime at NASA that had stripped the space agency of its best people and its ability to conduct manned space exploration or even reach the International Space Station without begging passage on Soviet Soyuz tubs.
"The reality that there is no flight requirement for a NASA pilot-astronaut for the foreseeable future is obvious and painful to all who have, justifiably, taken great pride in NASA's wondrous space flight achievements during the past half century," Armstrong concluded his testimony. "In space fight, we are in the process of exhausting alternatives. I am hopeful that, in the near future, we will be doing the right thing."
If we ever do get around to doing the right thing, in space or on the ground, Neil Armstrong will not be around to see it. The famously reclusive astronaut passed away after being drawn out to make a final bid at reviving the space program. His final contribution may be that he joined the many voices warning of the decline of America. His final legacy may be determined by whether the American people choose to listen to some of his final words.

THE ISRAELI GEORGE ZIMMERMAN VS THE MUSLIM TRAYVON MARTIN

RELEASE THE BACON-SNIFFING HOUNDS
Turn on CNN or MSNBC and the topic of choice will either be how Paul Ryan intends to turn America into Afghanistan (which would be swell because Afghanistan is run by the Religion of Peace and is a very tolerant place) or how four trillion Muslims were killed by Islamophobia last year.
The latest tragic case of Islamophobia that should make us all hang our heads in shame, before hanging ourselves in the attic, is the case of bacon bits found on a football field that Muslims had occupied for Ramadan. (We are the 1 percent. Jihad! Allahoo Ak-bar!)
Muslims arriving at the New Dorp football field, a few blocks away from the New Dorp High School, discovered some bacon lying on the ground. The field is usually home to the New Dorp Central Cougars and the Staten Island Tech Seagulls, but that day instead of boys and girls running around joyfully in the sun, robed men had come to attend a Ramadan event. The media and police were quickly summoned and now the NYPD is investigating the bacon as a hate crime.
The Ramadan event had been organized by a local chapter of the Muslim American Society. The Muslim American Society is a front for the Muslim Brotherhood, and some of its chapters have called for the murder of Jews. Calling for the murder of Jews however falls under freedom of speech. Unlike bacon which is a hate crime.
But the case of the dropped bacon isn't the most ridiculous of the hysterical Islamophobia witch hunts that New York has seen and my article, "Bacon Hate Crimes and Islamophobia Witch Hunts" lists some of them.

The only thing the Left has to offer
Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate made clear that the presidential race would not only be about what a lousy job Barack Obama has done but also about the future of our great nation. We welcome the choice, not least because it drives the Left absolutely batty.
Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin Republican who chairs the House Appropriations Committee, knows the federal fiscal situation inside and out. Indeed, he schooled the president during last year's debt ceiling negotiations and during the February 2010 bipartisan health care reform meeting. Not that Obama can be taught -- he's an extreme leftist Keynesian through and through. The campaign now will center on how to fix Obama's abysmal record of setting a new spending floor with more than triple the highest Bush deficit and driving up national debt by nearly $6 trillion in his all-too-long three-and-a-half years in office.
Ryan has a plan to put the brakes on this bullet train. It's not a miracle plan that will suddenly restore constitutional boundaries to federal spending, and it's certainly not a plan to "end Medicare as we know it" or to "dump grandma off a cliff," as the Left would have us believe. It also won't cost seniors another $6,400 a year, as Obama falsely claims. But it is a plan that will rein in spending growth and stabilize Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for future generations.
Ryan's Medicare reform plan, crafted with the help of Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), provides a premium-supported private-insurance alternative for seniors that would introduce competition to drive costs down. One downside is that it doesn't start until 2023, but his plan offers choice -- something the Left purportedly favors. Obama's record, on the other hand, is that he transferred $716 billion from the coming decade's Medicare funding to hide some of ObamaCare's massive cost. In other words, Obama and the Democrats are the ones "ending Medicare as we know it."
Then again, Medicare can't continue "as we know it" -- it's going bankrupt and will take the country with it. It's ironic and outrageous that the Left built the "fiscal cliff" we're careening toward only to blame the Right for the consequences, all because we won't stand for raising taxes or running up the deficit even more.
There's no doubt that Romney-Ryan can win in November. The only question is whether they can communicate their more fiscally responsible vision in a way that resonates with the American people and sufficiently rebuts the Obama campaign's attempts to divide by class, age, race and gender.
"It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself." --Thomas Jefferson
Editorial Exegesis
Is Ryan dumping seniors off a cliff?
"One of President Obama's regular attacks on Paul Ryan's Medicare reform is that it would force seniors to pay $6,400 a year more for health care. ... The claim is based on a now out-of-date Congressional Budget Office estimate of the gap between the cost of health care a decade from now, in 2022, and the size of the House budget's premium-support subsidy for a typical 65-year-old in 2022. In other words, the $6,400 has no relevance for any senior today. None. But it also is unlikely to have any relevance for any senior ever because CBO concedes that its number is highly uncertain and 'will depend on the evolution of the health care and health insurance systems over time, which is hard to predict.' That's for sure. The more fundamental problem is that the CBO analysis has nothing to do with the current Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan plan.
Nada. Over the last year Mr. Ryan has made major adjustments to his original proposal as he sought a compromise with Democrats. ... So how would Ryan 2.0 work in practice? Traditional Medicare and all private insurers in a region would make bids to cover seniors and compete for their business by offering the best value and prices.
Then the government would give everyone a subsidy equal to the second-lowest bid. If seniors chose that No. 2 option, whether it was Medicare or another plan, they'd break even and pay nothing extra out of pocket. If they picked the cheapest plan, they'd keep whatever was left over after the government subsidy -- that is, they'd get a cash refund. If they instead picked the third-cheapest option, the fourth-cheapest, etc., they'd pay the difference above the government subsidy. That structure ensures that seniors would have at least two choices (and likely far more) that they are guaranteed to do better than they do now. The amount of the premium-support subsidy would also be tied to underlying health-care costs, so it would not shift costs to beneficiaries, as Democrats also falsely claim. The very reasonable Romney-Ryan policy bet is that costs could nonetheless fall over time because seniors would have the incentive to switch to the most competitively priced Medicare plan. ... None of these facts are likely to deter Democrats from their distorted claims. But the truth is that the Ryan-Romney reform isn't anywhere close to Mr. Obama's cartoon version." --The Wall Street Journal

Obama's "Plan B"
Aug 25, 2012 02:38 pm Now that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has turned down Barack Obama's offer to replace Vice President Joe Biden, Obama is left with but one move to win reelection and remain President, and it will cost hundreds of thousands of lives. Anti-Obama Movie "2016" Opens A Shocking #3 In The Country
Aug 25, 2012 02:15 pm The anti-Obama movie "2016" is making a splash at the box office, although there are industry reasons why this is so. What is surprising, however, is that the film is playing at 1/3 fewer theaters across North American than other, more marketable action pictures. Deadline: Because of Friday's very weak box office, there won't be any [...]
Obama's Machine Running The Sleaziest Campaign In History?
Aug 25, 2012 02:13 pm When the Conservative right ran ads based on truth about opposing political candidates - about Willie Horton, for example- the Leftist media called it sleazy and unfair. But as we are seeing this year, vicious and utterly untrue and malicious ads from the Left are only properly rebuked by recognized media fact-checkers and occasionally by [...]
Aug 25, 2012 02:08 pm The mainstream media has become nothing but a shill for liberal progressive dogma and propaganda. Objectivity is no longer a requirement for journalists; a strong leftist pedigree and a degree acclaiming the completion of brainwashed studies from a liberal university is money in the bank for the current crop of 'investigative journalists'. There seems to be no shortage of those [...]
Aug 25, 2012 01:58 pm After much searching through the online news reports and commentaries dealing with Todd Akin's rape statement made during an interview on KTVI-TV in St. Louis, I finally found an article that actually quoted him. Political And Religious Persecution For Profit In China
China's New Shadow Government, Cash For Organs, And The Threat To America By Erik Rush & Jim Garrow CanadaFreePress.com The scandal surrounding China's former Chongqing Committee Secretary Bo Xilai isn't the sort of thing the average American news consumer would have initially found terribly interesting, since scandals in governments around the world occur on a regular basis. Add in the fact that press coverage in the West was essentially the party line communicated by the Chinese government, and one has a fairly dull, cut and dried account indeed. The story also didn't appear to possess the lurid qualities that Americans have been conditioned by the press to expect in "newsworthy" material.
The Root Political Reporter Implies Paul Ryan's Black College Girlfriend Could Mean He's Racist By Crystal Wright TownHall.com Paul Ryan had a black girlfriend in college? Psychiatry As A Weapon To Silence Religious And Political Opposition By Doug Hagmann CanadaFreePress.comUsing psychiatry as a means of repression has been a particular favorite of Socialist-oriented regimes. In the event you are unfamiliar with the full account of Mr. Egroff, it is documented here. In short, Mr. Egroff was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility for evaluation due to his pro-Christian yet non-threatening religious views opposing those of the Obama regime. Of course, that's not the official psychiatric diagnosis given to him, but after an extensive investigation into the events leading up to and following his evaluation, it might as well be. What was uncovered in subsequent investigations involving other "patients," I am convinced that the common element in all similar cases is one's Christian beliefs when combined with a vocal opposition to the Obama agenda.
COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 74 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Romney Lands A Punch!
So much of Washington is governed by conventional "wisdom," which often turns out to be wrong. For example, the GOP Beltway establishment had itself tied in knots for much of the year trying to figure out how to engage Barack Obama. They repeatedly warned us that they could not attack Obama personally because people liked him.
By the way, Democrats used to bemoan Ronald Reagan's personal popularity too. And they spent eight years viciously mocking him as a warmonger and an "amiable dunce."
So we constantly heard on the campaign trail, "Barack Obama is a nice guy, but..." The only problem is that he's not a nice guy. He's a brass knuckles, socialist politician from Chicago! His political career has been built on slash and burn campaigns.
Mitt Romney, after enduring lies and smears about his tax returns and his record at Bain Capital, finally took the gloves off when Obama's supporters produced a despicable ad that blamed Romney for a woman's death. Romney's campaign hit back with a powerful ad not attacking Obama's policies, but going straight to his character. And guess what? It worked!
According to a Vanderbilt University study, Romney's "America Deserves Better" ad moved independent voters six points in his direction. Politico writes that it "is the only ad so far this cycle to hurt the president among independent voters."
Speaking Of Independent Voters...
Fox News released its first poll of the campaign that measures likely voters -- those most likely to vote in November -- instead of just registered voters, who are less likely to turn out. The results: Romney 45%, Obama 44%. Among independent voters, Mitt Romney was leading by ten points -- 42% to 32%.
Here's something else that jumped out at me -- the gender gap. Barack Obama was leading Mitt Romney among women by six points -- 48% to 42%. But Romney was leading Obama among men by 8 points -- 48% to 40%. In other words, the Democrats' gender gap is larger than the GOP's.
Are Democrats running round fretting over the male vote and rethinking their support for same-sex "marriage"? Where are the liberal media talking heads opining about the radicalism of the Democrat Party driving away male voters?
Radical Rabbis For Obama
This week the Obama campaign released a list of rabbis supporting Obama's re-election, proving, it said, that Obama has a "deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel." But a number of the president's rabbi supporters are in fact deeply hostile to Israel's security. Yesterday the Emergency Committee for Israel published an open letter to President Obama expressing our concern about their radical views. Consider this excerpt:
"'Rabbis for Obama' includes many leaders of the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction (BDS) Movement, a movement inimical to Israel's well-being. It includes founders of the pro-Hamas 'Fast for Gaza' initiative. It even includes one person who was pleased to dine with Iranian President Ahmadinejad in 2008 and another who says the United States and Israel bring terrorism on themselves. Several members of 'Rabbis for Obama' are officials of Jewish Voice for Peace, a radical group that the Anti-Defamation League featured in its list of the 'Top 10 Anti-Israel Groups in America.'
"Far from demonstrating a 'deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel,' these figures have demonstrated a deep hostility to the state of Israel and a deep commitment to demonizing the Jewish state and undermining the U.S.-Israel alliance. We are sure that you will be distressed to discover that your own campaign has included so many of them on the list of 'Rabbis for Obama.' We cannot imagine their endorsements are ones you welcome."
Not Better Off
According to a Gallup poll released this week 56% of registered voters in a dozen key, swing states said they are not better off today than they were four years ago. Only 40% of voters said they are better off today. The states surveyed were: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. That's bad news for Barack Obama.
Here's more bad news. While Barack Obama is staking his reelection on the claim that his policies have turned the economy around, Bloomberg reports today that an analysis of Census Bureau data found median household incomes have fallen 4.8% "since the recession ended in June 2009."
Here's the kicker, folks: Believe it or not, that's nearly twice as much as the drop in household incomes (2.6%) that occurred during the 18-month recession. Yes, you read that right -- Obama's "recovery" has been worse than the recession!
According to the study's authors, "Almost every group is worse off than it was three years ago... We're in an unprecedented period of economic stagnation."
Ronald Reagan likely guaranteed Jimmy Carter's defeat in 1980 when he asked the American people, "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" As I have suggested before, we are living through Jimmy Carter's second term, and the results are just as dismal as the first time. Let's hope the reelection results are also just as bad for the incumbent president on Election Day!

Previously a music teacher and bandleader, Sir William Herschel identified double-stars, coined the word "asteroid," meaning star-like, discovered infrared radiation and constructed the largest reflecting telescopes of his day to catalog thousands of nebulae and galaxies. The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when the faithful believe that the Quran was revealed to Muhammad. During the month healthy Muslims must fast during daylight hours and increased prayers and recitation of the Quran. There is a theory that during Ramadan the stress of living a more hyper-religious life has been an underlying factor that may have caused Muslim Afghani soldiers to murder non-believers on their soil. Never mind the fact that most of the foreigners killed by their own hands were there to train them to fight for their own freedom from the Taliban.
Why
Many Afghans see the presence of American and NATO troops whom they regard as a bunch of barbarians as an affront to their local customs and religious way of life. During this past Ramadan alone 10 American troops were murdered by so-called "friendly" Afghan forces. ... Continue Reading:Insider Attacks and Ramadan; why are they happening?
Unaware of printing technology in China and Korea, Johannes Gutenberg invented the Western world's first moveable type printing press. His masterpiece, the Gutenberg Bible, was printed AUGUST 24, 1455. No longer copied by hand and chained to pulpits, Bibles were mass produced. Unfortunately his business partner sued and took his rights. Gutenberg, whose name means "beautiful mountain," wrote: "Let us break the seal which seals up holy things and give wings to Truth in order that she may win every soul that comes into the world." In The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 1831, book 5, Victor Hugo wrote: "The 15th century everything changes. Human thought discovers a mode of perpetuating itself... By all indications the new movie "2016: Obama's America" is quickly shaping up to be a traveling TEA party rally the way visiting Chick-fil-A earlier this month was and still is.
The film is based on the bestselling brilliant expose of Barack Obama's plans for America by Dinesh D'Souza. It deconstructs the lies we have been fed by Obama's handlers since he came on the national scene six years ago. In this 1 hour and 29 minute film D'Souza explains that Hope and Change was merely a phrase given substance by addled brained fools who thought he was "cool."
The movie that should have been made four years ago, "2016: Obama's America" is becoming a grassfire spreading across the country. D'Souza shows us Obama's plan to level America and put us on our knees before the Third World which is where his heart really is.
Barack Obama's war on America's seniors knows no limits. The Treasury Department is withholding part of the Social Security monthly payments of about 115,000 seniors because they have fallen behind on student loan payments. There was a time when Social Security benefit payments were untouchable, but that is a thing of the past.
Obama's War on Seniors is growing at such a rate that the number of effected seniors has almost doubled in just the last year. These size of the payments being withheld are not insignificant. Depending on the circumstances some run up to as high as 15%. With the average retiree's benefit payment at about $1,234, the monthly bite could be nearly $190.00. What's worse is that many seniors don't realize that they are still liable for their student loan payments even though they have been pushed out of the working mainstream by Barack Obama's fiscal policies.
"We have met the enemy and they are ours," wrote Navy Captain Oliver Hazard Perry, who died AUGUST 23, 1819. Captain Perry was renowned for his victory during the War of 1812 over 6 British warships in the Battle of Lake Erie. On September 10, 1813, Perry's vessels, with many sailors being free blacks, were anchored at Put-in-Bay, Ohio, blocking the supply route to Fort Malden. The British squadron, consisting of two ships, two brigs, one schooner and one sloop, approached, commanded by the one-armed Commodore Robert Barclay, who helped defeat Napoleon's fleet in the Battle of Trafalgar. Strong winds prevented Perry from getting in a safe position and with no long range firepower his flagship was crippled and most of his crew killed by British cannons. In a courageous move, the 28-year-old Perry switched to the ship "Niagara" and sailed directly across the British line, firing broadside. ... Continue Reading:American Minute August 23
Now that Todd Akin announced he won't step aside the question becomes: what now?
As things stand the Republican challenge to Claire McCaskill is dead. Todd Akin has lost a net 21 points and turned a sure pickup into a sure loss. Yet McCaskill still can't get over 50% (new Rasmussen poll). McCaskill is clearly still vulnerable. As recently as June she said the 71/29 beating Missourians gave Obamacare in a referendum was only because they don't understand it. Calling voters stupid has left an open wound in her hide that can and should be ripped open. Since Akin has excluded himself someone else should do it.
These facts plus several others make a strong genuine write-in candidacy by a Missouri Republican star a good idea.

Since Heritage's Robert Rector and Kiki Bradley broke the story on July 12 that the Obama Administration had gutted the work requirements from the 1996 welfare reform law, the Administration has denied it. In recent weeks, media "fact checks" have popped up all over declaring The Heritage Foundation's scoop "False."
Major media-most recently, CNN-have carried water for President Obama's defense of rewriting the welfare reform law. Since these supposed government watchdogs are playing the lapdog, Heritage will continue to provide the facts and do the investigative reporting.
CNN's "fact checkers" claim that "In some small way, the waivers might change precisely how work is calculated but the essential goal of pushing welfare recipients to work-something both Democrats and Republicans agreed to in the 1990s-remains the same."
This is exactly Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius's defense: that waiving welfare's work requirements for states under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program will still require states to get welfare recipients into jobs. She maintains that the states will have to "commit that their proposals will move at least 20 percent more people from welfare to work compared to the state's past performance."
This standard is vague, first of all, since states do not actually need to fulfill it but merely "demonstrate clear progress toward that goal no later than one year" after they are exempted from the old TANF work standards. Nonetheless, at first glance, this goal looks fairly impressive.
President Obama's HHS will exempt states from the federal work requirements if they increase by 20 percent the number of TANF cases that lose eligibility due to increases in earnings, a measure called "employment exits." There are four reasons why a 20 percent increase in the number of employment exits, although it sounds impressive, is a very weak or counterproductive measure of success in welfare reform.
The four reasons this measure is weak, Rector says:
1. Employment exits will increase automatically when the economy recovers. Virtually every state in the U.S. will experience an increase in its employment exits by 20 percent "compared to the state's past performance" as the economy moves from recession toward higher employment.
2. States could meet the target simply with better record keeping. A large number of TANF recipients leave the program each month for unknown or unspecified reasons. It seems likely that many states could meet the 20 percent increase target simply by collecting or reporting more accurate data on their current exits.
3. A 20 percent increase in exits is insignificant. An increase in employment exits of 20 percent is actually a very small change. The average state has a monthly TANF caseload of around 40,000 families and an annual caseload of perhaps 80,000. Each state has around 600 employment exits from TANF each month, or 1.5 percent of monthly caseload. According to Obama's new welfare system, the state can be fully exempt from the work standards written in the TANF law if it raises its employment exits from 600 per month to 720. Why is it reasonable, fair, or wise to exempt the remaining 39,000 welfare households from workfare participation just because an extra 120 have left the rolls?
4. More employment exits indicate a larger caseload. The number of employment exits generally rises when the size of the welfare caseload rises, and it falls when the caseload falls. This is due to routine caseload turnover.
Rector concludes that "The number of employment exits is thus meaningless as a method for assessing the TANF program. Employment exits is a sham measure of success that creates the impression that welfare dependence is being reduced when, in reality, the number of persons on welfare is constant or rising."
Under the Administration's new measurement, the old welfare program would have been deemed a success, while the extremely successful 1996 reforms would have looked like a failure.
With an Administration that routinely creates new laws by executive order-disregarding the people's elected representatives-accountability is in short supply. Heritage legal experts Todd Gaziano, Robert Alt, and Andrew Grossman have detailed why the Administration's actions are illegal. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has no authority to grant the type of waivers it is creating. Yet the media haven't done a "legality check" on the Obama Administration.
Stay tuned for the next installment in Rector's continuing series next week.
In 2011 massive government programs gave an average benefit of $9,000 to 100 million Americans. Yet, government data about poverty rates fail to account for such large expenditures. Rector explains:
The Census Bureau defines a family as poor if annual "income" falls below specified thresholds. (In 2011, the poverty income threshold for a family of four was around $23,000.)
But the Census Bureau excludes 97 percent of all welfare benefits when counting "income." By the agency's misleading measurements, neither food stamps, nor the earned income tax credit, nor public housing nor Medicaid provide "income." As defined by the Census Bureau, these programs have no impact whatsoever on poverty.
This system for counting poverty is rigged for continual expansion of welfare benefits. Since the "war on poverty" began in the 1960s, Rector explains, benefits have grown such that "government now spends on welfare five times the amount needed to raise all families out of poverty."
Next week in Tampa, The Heritage Foundation will reach out to GOP convention attendees and journalists to help educate them about the best ways to advance conservative ideas at this critical time for the movement.

Heritage Work of Note
Heritage Foundation expert Robert Rector appeared this week on C-SPAN's Washington Journal to discuss welfare and the Obama administration's decision to undo the program's work requirements. Rector helped craft the 1996 welfare reform law that enshrined the work requirements into law, and has repeatedly pointed both the illegality and harmful consequences of President Obama's waivers.
Drudge links to Steve Malzberg's video interview with former NFL star Burgess Owens. Owens looks about 15 or 20 years younger than his advertised age of 61. More importantly, he has a message that resonates strongly with those of us hoping to move our country back in the right direction.
According to a recent NBC/Wall Street poll, Owens is a zero per center - i.e., one of the zero percent of black Americans who support Mitt Romney. Talk about Invisible Man.
Owens is the author of the just-released ebook It's All About Team: Exposing the Black Talented Tenth. I can't vouch for the book. Based on the interview, however, I would say that Owens has a voice crying to be heard.
There is a certain quality to the Obama campaign. Howie Carr captures it this morning in "Be afraid, be very afraid of RNC (say the Dems)." The whole constellation of alleged crime, rapine, murder, and felony murder goes over the top. It reeks of desperation. And this is just for openers. The authors of the campaign are trying to dig their way out of a hole.
Obama's stump speech this time around is also off in tone. It lectures. It hectors. It whines. Toby Harnden derides the Obama campaign as "a joyless slog." Andrea Tantaros observes its "relentless negativity."
Obama makes one thing perfectly clear, as Richard Nixon used to say. It ain't morning in America, and it's not getting better any time soon.
By the lights of the campaign, our enormous deficit problems can be meaningfully addressed by raising taxes on the rich. And the campaign is sure not to say much about such signature accomplishments as Obamacare and the trillion-dollar stimulus from hell.
Reading my hard copy of the New York Times yesterday, I came across this little detonation by James B. Stewart of the "Romney didn't pay any taxes" business. Based on a review of Romney's public 2010 tax return, containing foreign tax data going back ten years, Stewart writes:
The good news for Mr. Romney is the forms suggest that he paid at least some federal income tax every year, as he has said he did. He used the foreign tax credit every year to offset his taxes in the United States, and American taxpayers can't use a tax credit if they owe no federal income tax. This casts even more doubt on the claim by the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, attributed to an unnamed Bain Capital source, that Mr. Romney paid no income taxes during that time.
But Reid's charge made on behalf of Obama campaign is, of course, close enough for campaign work.
Best of all, we have the alleged Republican women for Obama. The Obama campaign gives us a two-and-a-half minute video featuring four or five women who claim to be Republicans, or to have been Republicans until recently, and who are appalled by Mitt Romney.
And that's not all. As John demonstrated yesterday, at least two of the "Republican women for Obama" are ringers. They are lefty women who supported Obama in 2008. The video is a Hollywood production starring impersonators playing Republican women. The Obama campaign didn't even bother to populate a two-and-a half minute video with authentic turncoats. It's probably wrong to say they couldn't have done so, but you have to wonder.
By contrast, the varmints at Citizens United have produced a one-hour film - "The Hope and The Change" - full of former Obama voters declaring that they refuse to pull the lever for Obama this time around. The film is set to play at the GOP convention this week. Sean Hannity previewed the film in this segment. According to Peter Boyer, the film is to go into theatrical release in selected cities in September, and play several dozen times on a cable channel right up to election day. Below is the film's official trailer.
Quotable quote: "The party's over. The smoke has cleared."
If Andrew Breitbart were alive, I think he could safely offer $100,000 to anyone proving that the voters in the Citizens United film are something other than what they say they appear to be. To say the least, the film presents an interesting contrast with "Republican women for Obama."
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it: the Obama campaign so far does not bear the hallmarks of a winning presidential campaign.
UPDATE: I see my thinking trails that of John Nolte and Erick Erickson, who are less wary than I am about giving voice to my intuition.
Arthur Brisbane is stepping down from his job as public editor of the New York Times. In his final column, Brisbane addresses the issue of political and cultural bias at the Times (the emphasis is mine):
I. . .noted two years ago that I had taken up the public editor duties believing "there is no conspiracy" and that The Times's output was too vast and complex to be dictated by any Wizard of Oz-like individual or cabal. I still believe that, but also see that the hive on Eighth Avenue is powerfully shaped by a culture of like minds - a phenomenon, I believe, that is more easily recognized from without than from within.
When The Times covers a national presidential campaign, I have found that the lead editors and reporters are disciplined about enforcing fairness and balance, and usually succeed in doing so. Across the paper's many departments, though, so many share a kind of political and cultural progressivism - for lack of a better term - that this worldview virtually bleeds through the fabric of The Times.
As a result, developments like the Occupy movement and gay marriage seem almost to erupt in The Times, overloved and undermanaged, more like causes than news subjects.
Brisbane also notes that a just-released Pew Research Center survey found that The Times's "believability rating" has dropped drastically among Republicans compared with Democrats, and is an almost-perfect mirror opposite of Fox News's rating. He asks, "Can that be good?"
This afternoon my wife, our 16-year-old daughter and I went to see Dinesh D'Souza's 2016 at a nearby theater. I believe the film opened here yesterday; the crowd was about average for 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon. The movie is very good. It has several virtues, starting with the fact that it is only an hour and a half long. (These days there is no premise so slight, no theme so insubstantial, no plot so thin but what the film takes 2 1/2 hours or more to unroll.)
2016 is beautifully shot and edited, as you would expect from a film that is produced by the same guy, Gerald Molen, who produced such movies as Rain Man, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List. It is actually entertaining, a quality not achieved by every documentary. My 16-year-old enjoyed it, so I think its appeal will be broad. Dinesh D'Souza, who appears frequently and is the principal narrator (Barack Obama is the other narrator) is a likable figure, and the similarities and contrasts he draws between himself and Obama are revealing and effective. It would be a great thing if many millions of people see 2016, as it would tell most people a great deal that they do not already know about our president. Here is the trailer:
I have not read D'Souza's book, The Roots of Obama's Rage, on which 2016 is based, but I have heard Dinesh lecture on it twice. In a nutshell, his theory is that Obama's world-view can best be understood by reading his memoir, Dreams From My Father, and taking it seriously. Barack Obama Jr., Dinesh argues, has assumed the anti-colonialist, anti-Western, anti-American, anti-free enterprise perspective of his father, which explains much of his otherwise-puzzling conduct as president.
I think Dinesh is on to something here, and his premise helps explain, for example, why Obama returned Churchill's bust, backs Argentina in the conflict over the Falklands, and tilts toward the Palestinians. My question about Dinesh's theory is whether it explains the essence of Obama's philosophy, or is more of a footnote, or, put another way, the icing on the cake. Without doubt, Obama's rather tortured youth is an important part of his persona. His bigamist father, an "intellectual" who was in fact a repellent alcoholic poseur, abandoned his family when Barack Jr. was an infant, and Barack only saw him once thereafter. Further, Obama's upbringing in Indonesia and Hawaii no doubt lends a certain exoticism to his thinking.
But do we really need Barack Obama Sr. to account for his son's hostility toward America and its traditional beliefs and values? I don't think so. Obama came of age, over a period of decades, in an environment that can charitably be described as hard-left. His father and mother were both socialists or worse. His maternal grandfather selected a mentor for young Barry who was a long-time member of the Communist Party USA. The socialist New Party listed him as a member. His friend, colleague and fundraiser Bill Ayers is a terrorist who says he wishes he had set off more bombs. His college professor Edward Said was the leading intellectual voice of those who want Israel destroyed. His law school mentor Roberto Unger was too far left for Brazil's socialist party, and was sent back to Harvard, where he declined all interviews lest he endanger Obama's electoral prospects. The minister who converted him to Christianity was Jeremiah "Gad damn America" Wright. You can go on and on.
My point is that the cornerstone belief of 20th and 21st century American leftism is that the United States is too rich and too powerful. This is not a perspective that is unique to Barack Obama; rather, it is common to essentially every modern American leftist. (I say this in part based on personal experience and observation.) To take just one of countless examples, Hillary Clinton marinated in the view that America needs to be cut down to size just as much as Obama did.
That being the case, Obama's efforts in office to weaken America are consistent not just with his father's ideology, but with the entire culture of American leftism. That he is no outlier is demonstrated by the fact that essentially the entire Democratic Party has cheered everything he has done in office, from trying to socialize health care to apologizing overseas for the U.S. So in my view, Obama's unique background and his tortured relationship with his absent father do help to explain some otherwise-puzzling actions, like returning Churchill's bust. But they are not needed to account for the broader failure of his administration's policies. Put another way, the oft-stated belief that Hillary Clinton would have been a materially better president is wrong.
Of course, that doesn't address the ultimate point of D'Souza's movie: what will happen if we give Obama another four years? Obama's urging Russia's president to tell Vladimir Putin that in a second term he will have more "flexibility"-flexibility to sell out American interests, apparently, or what was the point?-is chilling. It certainly could be that in a second term, Obama's anti-colonialist (i.e., anti-you and me) impulses could be fully unleashed, in a way that would make his first term look successful by comparison. Let's not take that chance! If you haven't seen 2016, I am pretty sure you will enjoy it, and if your undecided friends haven't seen it, they should.
JOE UPDATES from Lower Manhattan (4:08 P.M.): Several of Manhattan's more noted cineplexes are screening 2016, including the Union Square Regal, where the 2pm showing resulted nearly in a full house. It looks as though 2016 will gross around $7MM this weekend, which is a strong showing. As ever in New York, tourists stood out like a sore thumb, and the auditorium was, at least, half-tourist. The film was met with applause at the end (though I was the only one booing when Dartmouth College was entitled "Dartmouth University" in the closing credits). I generally agree with John's sentiments. It is a forceful and entertaining film, and the conceit of a global chase for the prime mover of Barack Obama worked very nicely. Dinesh and John turned the former's research into a very high quality narrated essay.
As usual with conservative art, it bothers me that we cannot produce professional looking products. Why was 2016 in 30p instead of 24p? Why did the colors look so bloated? Why does Dinesh's microphone distort? Why was the stock footage so painfully stock-ish? Why was the stock music so painfully stock-ish? Why should the film switch back-and-forth between Dinesh reading from Dreams of My Father and the dreamer himself? These errors diminish the transporting quality of a film. Conservatism needs a better farm team in music and visuals.
Yet Dinesh and John put together such a clever yarn that the audience seemed (as I glanced around) transfixed. The story really picks up once we see Dinesh's now-famous interview with George Obama, than whom there couldn't be a kinder soul. He has every right to be cross with his neglectful, power-hungry brother; instead he calmly espouses a pro-western view while shrugging off Barack Obama's neglect. The most powerful theme of Dinesh's is that the motivations of Barack Obama lie far from Selma or Little Rock. It is not the oppression of slavery which motivates him, but the belief, mistaken, that, instead of earning it, the colonial west has stolen its wealth from its former imperial subjects. To which George Obama is the living counterproof: he observes that the nations that are healthy and wealthy are those that clung to the British yoke a bit longer, hated British ideas a bit less. Barack Obama is not come to redeem America's genuine sin of past racism, but to redeem her fabricated sin of colonialism. And that's why Barack Obama is, in spite of it all, quite a stupid man. And as Dinesh shows, quite a dangerous one, when he is in the White House instead of in the Barnes & Noble polemics section, which is where his talents really ought to have him.
Both presidential candidates must be feeling reasonably happy as we head into the conventions. President Obama should be satisfied that, from all that appears, he leads Mitt Romney by a point or two in polls of likely voters, despite the economy's weak recovery and the mostly bad economic news of the past few months. Romney should be satisfied that he stands only slightly behind Obama, including in key states like Ohio, Florida, and Virginia, despite the battering he has taken from negative advertising in these and other states.
Romney must also be buoyed by the fact that he has not yet had the opportunity to introduce himself properly to the American people. Most of the comparatively little advertising done on his behalf has taken the form of attacks on Obama, rather than positive packaging of Romney.
Not long ago, a Republican friend of mine wondered whether "anyone" knows that Mitt Romney helped save the 2002 Winter Olympics. Since then, I've encountered reasonably well informed people who are not aware of this accomplishment.
The upcoming Republican Convention, shortened though it will be by one day, provides Romney with the ideal setting in which to introduce himself. He will have no other opportunity like it. Advertisements can help, but they are too brief to tell much of a story. By the time of the debates, it will be too late for Romney to introduce himself to most voters. And those paying attention to him for the first time in the debates will encounter the candidate under circumstances in which he can neither control the proceedings nor talk much about himself.
The question on everyone's mind now is, what bounce, if any, will Romney receive. And given the times we live in, that question tends to evolve into whether his bounce will meet, fail to meet, or exceed expectations.
The second question is silly. If Romney comes out the convention leading Obama by, say, three points, then he will be in a pretty nice position. The issue will then become, what bounce Obama gets from his convention, not whether Romney's bounce met the expectations of the pundit class.
That said, there's no harm in speculating about how big the Romney bounce will be. According to Gallup, the median convention bounce since 1964 is about 5 points and the average bounce is about 6. In the past two cycles, though, the typical bounce has been smaller, probably because presidential races seem to be followed more closely pre-convention, and with more information available, than used to be the case.
On the other hand, Gallup's data shows that the challenger tends to receive a little more bounce than the incumbent president. As noted above, the challenger is introducing himself to voters in an ideal setting.
Moreover, I suspect that Republicans now have a slight natural bounce advantage over Democrats because the liberal mainstream media provides a pro-Democrat narrative in the months leading up to the conventions. Thus, viewers are more likely to hear the Republican message loud and clear for the first time during a Republican Convention than they are to hear the Democrats' message loud and clear for the first time during a Democratic Convention.
This helps explain, I think, why President Bush received more bounce than John Kerry in 2004 despite Kerry's status as the challenger. And compare the pre-convention status of Barack Obama in 2008 with Romney's status this year. With the help of the MSM, Obama had attained near legendary status before his convention in Denver. This year, with the help of the MSM, Romney, to the extent people know anything about him, is the heartless rich guy challenging Obama.
For these reasons, I believe that, if the Republicans get three days, a good performance by Romney and Ryan will probably produce a 4 to 6 point bounce. But no one should panic if the bounce is smaller, or even if there is no bounce.
I expect, though, that Obama will get a decent bounce from his Convention, especially if Romney receives a significant one. I'll explain why as we approach the Democratic event in Charlotte.
Is NBC the most inept media organization? How about their botched announcement of the death of the first man to walk on the Moon, Neil Young of Buffalo Springfield. The Daily Show better have a field day with this:
Screen capture of NBC's first bulletin
Not the only place it appeared in NBC world:
I think NBC gets this week's Brian Ross Award for brain-dead reporting.
More to the point of the real story, many of our readers will be of just the right age to be not quite old enough to recall where they were when John F. Kennedy was assassinated, but old enough to have watched and recall the second most significant event of the 1960s-when Armstrong put that first footstep on the surface of the moon. At the time it was easy to suppose that this was but the first step in a long series of milestones in space travel. I'm sure everyone thought we'd have gone to Mars by the year 2012, and more to the point, you could certainly be excused for thinking that the moon landing somehow meant that we'd all live forever. We long ago faced up to the difficulty-and expense (a place where "astronomical" is the correct adjective)-of further space adventures, and Neil Armstrong's passing today reminds us that mortality is not to be conquered either.
By the way, I can't help but recall that liberals, who had begun the moon program under John F. Kennedy, had turned against it by the time of Armstrong's first steps in 1969. Here's how I recalled it in Volume 1 of The Age of Reagan:
The reaction to the moon landing in 1969 is a good example of national exhaustion and liberal guilt at work. The moon landing had been set out as a lofty goal by the liberals' hero, John F. Kennedy, and the moon landing was an occasion of national pride and celebration for most Americans. Here, amidst the rubble and gloom of the 1960s, was something that had gone splendidly right. Many leading liberals, however, could only sniff that while the moon landing was undeniably impressive, the money for the moon landing would have been better spent on social problems on Earth. The popular cliché of the time went: "Any nation that can land a man on the moon can [fill in the blank]." (The total cost of the decade-long moon landing project was less than three months' worth of federal spending for social programs in 1969.) A 25 person delegation from the Poor People's Campaign, led by Rev. Ralph Abernathy (Martin Luther King's successor), came to the Apollo 11 launch at Cape Canaveral "to protest America's inability to choose human priorities," while Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield said that "The needs of the people on earth, and especially in this country, should have priority. When we solve these problems, we can consider space efforts." Even the brother of the man who issued the call to go to the moon, Sen. Ted Kennedy, expressed weariness with the space program: "I think after [the moon landing] the space program ought to fit into our other national priorities."
There's one of those old journalistic "where-are-they-now" standbys in the New York Times today about Al Gore. The story is at turns unintentionally hilarious and also deeply revealing of what's wrong with the world. Above all, the story seems much longer than the topic merits.
We know Gore has become a wealthy man, but what actual value-added to the economy did Gore perform to "accumulate more than $100 million in wealth"? Can you name any business he built (aside from trying for a carbon trading business that depended on political mandates rather than free market forces)? Seems more likely that many rich liberal friends took pity on him and showered him with money. That's fine up to a point, but isn't $100 million somewhere way past that point?
Plus there's the blatant hypocrisy of the man. Sure, his "10,000-square-foot colonial in Nashville" has "geothermal wells, buried beneath the driveway, [to] cool and heat its 20 rooms." Isn't that special! Of course, his "luxury apartment at the St. Regis tower" in San Francisco (2,800 square feet, the story informs us) doesn't have geothermal, but apparently it has his girlfriend. Then there's his new abode in Montecito; no word on geothermal here. So maybe he needs all that $100 million to buy carbon offsets. And hey-he doesn't always fly private! Sometimes he even takes Southwest Airlines to Nashville.
Gore's Santa Barbara digs. Does he borrow sugar from Oprah?
The story continues: "As for rubbing shoulders with the Washington elite, it is so unappealing that Mr. Gore has chosen to skip the Democratic Party convention in Charlotte, N.C."-I'm sure the Democratic Party is grateful for this and returns the sentiment-"and will instead spend the next two weeks on his cable channel, Current TV, leading the coverage of both major-party conventions from New York." CurrentTV still exists? I think the last we checked Power Line has more readers than CurrentTV has viewers.
I've always thought Gore deserved a little slack for having lost the electoral college vote in 2000 (though that was his fault more than hanging chads in Florida-a competent Democratic candidate would have won his home state or West Virginia), and I can imagine that losing in the way he did would drive someone out of his mind. There is some evidence that it did, as the story hints: "He dealt with the trauma not by conducting a shadow presidency in his imagination; rather, at first, he grew a beard, ate too much and got fat. . ."
And then there's this: "'Al obsesses about what the world will end up becoming,' said one friend of the Gores, 'and I know that was tiring for Tipper to be around.'" Tipper ain't the only one.
It happens all the time in talk radio: a caller will say that he is a lifelong Republican, and will recall fondly how he voted for Ronald Reagan. Then he says that today's Republicans have gone too far, and for the first time ever he is voting for a Democrat! These callers are nearly always lying. If you look them up, you likely will find that they are Democratic Party precinct chairmen.
The Obama campaign is trying to perpetrate the same deception. It has just released a video called Republican Women For Obama, which features four or five women who claim to be Republicans, or to have been Republicans until recently. But, of course, they are appalled by Mitt Romney-it is hard to say why, apart from a couple of discreet references to abortion, but did they really just now figure out that the Republican Party is pro-life? The ad is surprisingly ineffective, but it is also dishonest. At least one of the women who pose as "Republican women for Obama" is a long-time Democrat.
Her name is Maria Ciano, and BuzzFeed finds that she has been a registered Democrat in Colorado at least since 2006. Here she is in the Obama ad. She is easy to spot in the ad because she wears braces.:
And here she is on Facebook:
Her Facebook page is here; some of her friends congratulate her on appearing in the Obama ad. In addition to the fact that she is a registered Democrat, check out her Facebook "likes." They make it obvious that Ms. Ciano is a devoted Democrat and a left-wing activist. Here are some of her "likes," beginning with the earliest in time:
* Democracy For America * Tar Sands Action * Amy Goodman * Barack Obama * Costoftaxcuts.com * Being Liberal * MoveOn.org * Bernie Sanders Tells You A Secret the GOP Would Rather You Didn't Know * Miss Piggy Delivers the Best Takedown of Fox News We've Seen All Month * Think Progress * The Best Quote From Barack Obama We've Seen This Week * Dow and Monsanto Join Forces to Poison America's Heartland * Climate Reality * Grist.org * The Amazing Victory Scored With Obama That More People Should Be Talking About * The Sierra Club * The Buffett Rule * Obama For America-Colorado * UniteWomen.org * Denver Young Democrats * Obamacare * Latinos For Obama * Michelle Obama * Veterans For Obama * I Love It When I Wake Up In the Morning and Obama Is President * Obama Truth Team * Democratic Party
But the Obama campaign describes Ms. Ciano as a "Republican Woman!" Right. There are liars; there are compulsive liars; and then there is the Obama campaign. If someone took the trouble to track the down the other women in the ad, they would probably find something similar. If you do that, please record your findings in the comments.
UPDATE: OK, I've broken through on this via Facebook. More of the women are fake "Republicans." Will do update after lunch!
Continued: Here is another woman featured in the Obama video:
The women in the video aren't named, but she is Delia Ciano-none other than Maria Ciano's mother. Her Facebook page, like her daughter's, is revealing. She put up a link to the Obama video and writes, "Maria and I are part of this video. I hope you watch." Here is a screen shot:
I love the part where someone comments, "Just saw you on TRMS [The Rachel Maddow Show]!" And she responds: "TRMS is my favorite show! Amazing!" Sure, just like all Republicans, she is a big Rachel Maddow fan. Delia Ciano also shared a link via the Rachel Maddow show:
Elsewhere on the page, she refers to Republicans as "this idiots." No surprise, then, that her page consists mostly of attacks on Republicans. Here are just a couple of many screen shots that could be taken. In the first one, note the reference to "Mitt Romney and his party":
Ms. Ciano's Facebook page also reveals that she was part of a small group that met with Michelle Obama when Mrs. Obama was in Colorado on August 11, presumably indicating that she has some stature in the Obama campaign.
So obviously, neither Maria Ciano nor her mother Delia is a "Republican woman" who is crossing over or changing her mind to vote for Obama. How about the others in the ad? We will report anything further we can find out.
It's pretty obvious that this week's Green Weenie has to go to Michael Mann for his threatened libel suit against National Review, but since I already manhandled (heh) Mann here a couple days ago, there's no need to high-stick him again (double-heh). I'm sure Mann will win a shelf full of Green Weenies if this suit proceeds, and in any case he's a lock for the eventual Power Line Green Weenie Hall of Fame (Paul Ehrlich will be the first inductee, needless to say).
Not a Green Weenie
So how about we do a reverse-green weenie, and salute someone who's most definitely not a Green Weenie? My first selection for the non-green weenie is Roger Scruton. I've mentioned Roger Scruton's fine new book on environmental philosophy for conservatives, How To Think Serious About the Planet, before, but my recent review of the book in National Review is now half-out from behind the subscriber firewall (it's 50 cents for the whole article, but free if you're an NR digital subscriber), and in the review I have this to say about it:
[H]is new book deserves to be regarded as the most important environmental book of the last 20 years. If the environmental movement takes it seriously, it might find a way out of the dead end into which it has force-marched itself. And conservatives who embrace his rich arguments will find a way of contesting the Left for ownership of environmental issues that doesn't depend on arid and utilitarian cost-benefit arguments or the ritual denunciations of the leftist view. Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of Scruton's book is that it traverses most of the key issues without recourse to the standard clichés of either side. Even when he is taking on the worst of fever-swamp environmental leftism, his critique is all the more devastating for his calm and understated prose.
Special GOP Convention Issue
While I'm on the subject of National Review, I have an article why Paul Ryan is Progressivism's worst nightmare in the new GOP convention issue just out in the last 48 hours from NR. Here's the lede:
Does it seem like the Left's reaction to recent GOP running mates has gone far beyond the norms of election-season partisanship? There's a reason for this: Both Paul Ryan and Sarah Palin represent mortal threats to the core of modern liberalism in a way that Dick Cheney and Dan Quayle (and their respective chiefs) never did, and therefore they have to be crushed by any means necessary. The reason for the vitriolic reaction to Sarah Palin four years ago was simple: She threatened to shatter a pillar of the Left's identity politics by contesting its monopoly on "women's issues." Ryan represents a triple threat. Most obviously, his fiscal plans threaten the Left's entitlement mentality, and his personality and charisma may hive off the youth vote. But the deepest fear is that Ryan will challenge directly the core philosophy of today's so-called progressivism.
But if you're not an NR subscriber, and you weren't up at 6 am eastern time Thursday to hear me on the Bill Bennett show explaining the article, you can download an MP3 file of the first hour of the show right here. (Watch out Hinderaker-Ward Experience! I'm breathing down your neck.)
The Associated Press reports today that Mitt Romney is appearing in Ohio "amid distractions." Todd Akin! Rape! Romney uttered the dreaded words "birth certificate!" Aaiiieee! Well, the press is doing its best to distract voters from the issues in the presidential campaign, but Romney isn't distracted. He is pounding away on the economy. This morning he released this hard-hitting podcast:
Please consider sharing it with your friends, especially any undecided ones. You can "like" this post on Facebook, or Tweet, using our buttons. Or you can email a link. Or you can go to Romney's site, where they have a variety of sharing options. One way or another, spread the word: Obama and his press minions may be distracted from the issues voters care about, but Mitt Romney isn't.
My post yesterday bemoaning the apparent superiority of Team Obama's ground game failed to mention at least one important consideration - groups like the Tea Party that will supplement the Romney ground game. One reader tells me:
I signed up, since I live in the red hills of Texas, to make calls in Virginia with the Election Day Tea Party. I got this information from Instapundit. They are also going to have folks travel in to walk doors and do voter registration drives. The Virginia action is focusing on us lonely folks in Texas and Tennessee who never get any presidential campaign action, since we are a sure thing. I also saw another post from Instapundit that conservatives in California, who have no hope, will work in Nevada. Clearly, folks in close states should stay at home, but your readers span the world, I'd wager, so it might be nice to let folks know there are other ways to help with these efforts.
Consider it done.
Out-of-state liberals too, of course, will be campaigning in swing states. In 2004, it seemed like half of the Washington D.C. lawyers I knew were traipsing off to Ohio to help John Kerry. But this year the enthusiasm gap clearly favors the Republicans, and there is nothing like the Tea Party on the Democratic side. (It's difficult to imagine Occupy Wall Street folks (a) participating seriously in electoral politics and (b) establishing the kind of rapport with voters necessary to help get out the vote).
Unlike scruffy "occupiers," the D.C. lawyers brigade was pretty effective on behalf of Kerry in 2004. One of my colleagues said that in the portion of Akron where he toiled for the Dems, voter turnout approached 90 percent. However, in general the Republican GOTV effort in Ohio reportedly was more effective because it relied less on outside lawyer types, and more on the friends and neighbors of voters. I recall that at the 2008 convention, the Republicans honored to Ohio Party leader who organized and oversaw the 2004 effort.
Campaign offices like the ones Team Obama is staffing in far greater numbers than Team Romney provide value in this regard because they can identify and assist local Party folk in their efforts to reach friends and neighbors. So it would be nice if the Republicans weren't lagging. But I expect that local Tea Party organizations, with the help of out-of-state volunteers, will help considerably in overcoming this disadvantage.
People who read Power Line and similar sites always get Michael Ramirez's cartoons. But I sometimes wonder: when they appear in liberal newspapers, how many readers understand his references? Especially since Ramirez's cartoons ride the heart of the news cycle, rather than lagging days or weeks behind. Today's cartoon is a case in point:
I'll bet a lot of people learned about "OIHO" for the first time through Ramirez's cartoon.
Our pal Ramesh Ponnuru of National Review and Bloomberg News has a fun column up on Bloomberg a few days ago entitled "I'm Right, You're Wrong, and Other Political Truths" that spoofs the degraded style of political argument in election season:
I can't stand the people on your side. Not you, particularly. You're fine. It's your side that's ruining everything great about this country.
Your side lies shamelessly. Your leaders just make things up. And you just follow them blindly, like sheep - like blind sheep. You hang out with people who think just like you, and listen only to shows where you'll hear your own views repeated. It's an echo chamber of lies!
That's how your side wins elections. It whips gullible people into a frenzy about supposed threats to their freedoms and livelihoods, and it deceives everyone else into thinking it's more moderate than it really is. Once the election is over, though, your side starts pushing its extreme agenda behind the scenes.
This isn't a new phenomenon in American politics, and Ramesh quotes Tocqueville on this point. But he could have quoted Churchill. Loyal Power Line reader Bill Befort of Grand Rapids, Minnesota draws our attention to this passage from The World Crisis:
No one who has not been involved in such contentions can understand the intensity of the pressures to which public men are subjected, or the way in which every motive in their nature, good, bad and indifferent, is marshalled in the direction of further effort to secure victory. The vehemence with which great masses of men yield themselves to partisanship and follow the struggle as if it were a prize fight, their ardent enthusiasm, their glistening eyes, their swift anger, their distrust and contempt if they think they are to be baulked of their prey; the sense of wrongs mutually exchanged, the extortion and enforcement of pledges, the infectious loyalties, the praise that waits on violence; the chilling disdain, the honest disappointment, the cries of "treachery" with which every proposal of compromise is hailed; the desire to keep good faith with those who follow, the sense of right being on one's side, the harsh unreasonable actions of opponents - all these acting and reacting reciprocally upon one another tend towards the perilous climax. To fall behind is to be a laggard or a weakling, not sincere, not courageous; to get in front of the crowd, if only to command them and to deflect them, prompts often very violent action. And at a certain stage it is hardly possible to keep the contention within the limits of words or laws. Force, that final arbiter, that last soberer, may break upon the scene.
Fasten your seatbelts: November 6 is still a long way off.
There's bad polling news from Florida. A recently released Quinnipiac poll puts incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson 9 points ahead of Republican challenger Connie Mack, 49-41. This follows a Rasmussen poll that has Nelson up by 7 points.
On the positive side, Quinnipiac's poll of the Wisconsin Senate race shows Tommy Thompson leading Democrat Tammy Baldwin by 6 points, 50-44.
And in Ohio, Republican Josh Mandel (a "Power Line Pick Six" candidate) is hanging in there in his race against Sherrod "As far left as Socialist Bernie Sanders" Brown. Quinnipiac has Brown leading Mandel by 7 points, but a University of Cincinnati poll puts Mandel within 1 point of the leftist Democrat.
It seems to me that if Romney picks up steam in Ohio, the Senate race will tighten even more, giving Mandel a decent shot at unseating Brown.
For most Americans, the answer to this hardy perennial of a presidential election year question is, of course, No. In fact, most Americans aren't even better off in terms of household income than they were two years ago.
According to a report issued by Sentier Research, a firm headed by two former Census Bureau officials, inflation adjusted household median income fell by 4.8 percent from June 2009 through June 2012. Moreover, incomes have dropped more since the beginning of the "recovery" than they did during the recession, when they declined by 2.9 percent.
No wonder most Americans tell pollsters the recession hasn't over. For them, it persists.
Two years ago, in mid-2010, the inflation adjusted household income was approximately $51,000, down from about $56,000 short before the recession began. The number then dipped to around $50,000 in 2011. Now it is just about back to $51,000.
The decline in household income has occurred pretty much across-the-board. All major ethic groups are affected - African-Americans the most; Hispanics somewhat less than whites. Both public and private sector employees have suffered a decline although, not surprisingly the private sector - supposedly doing "fine" - has suffered more.
Incomes have declined in all regions of the country. However, the Midwest has suffered the least, with incomes falling by only 1.1 percent in that part of the country over the past three years, according to the study.
For this reason, Obama may continue to hang tough in the key state of Ohio, and Romney may find it difficult to offset the loss of Ohio (if he needs to) by winning in other Midwestern states.
Dear NumbersUSA activist,
The Obama Administration's deferred action amnesty, which offers illegal aliens under the age of 31 a two-year stay from deportation, is producing fallout in the states. That's because states must decide if deferred action recipients are eligible for driver's licenses and other public benefits.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles issued a written statement saying, "It appears that young people who receive federal deferrals will be eligible for California driver's licenses...But it remains uncertain whether clarifying legislation or regulations will be necessary." St ate law and regulations allow only certain types of federal immigration documents to support the issuance of licenses, so if recipients get "new or different immigration documents," then legislation or regulatory clarification may be needed, the DMV said.
Every state will have to decide whether deferred-action recipients get driver's licenses, and more are weighing in each day. Georgia, Michigan, Oregon and Virginia officials, thus far, are leaning toward California's stance. Governors in Arizona, Mississippi, Nebraska and Texas have said that deferred-action recipients will not be entitled to any benefits, including driver's licenses.
On the day that the deferred-action amnesty took effect, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer issued an executive order re-affirming that amnesty recipients are not eligible for driver's licenses and other public benefits under state law. Her press aide said, "What President Obama has done confers neither lawful status nor authorized presence. All they've done is defer these individuals' prosecution and deportation...It's up to states to try to do all they can to enforce their existing laws. " Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant issued a similar executive order on August 23rd.
Driver's licenses aren't the only issue under debate. Many who qualify for deferred action are high-school graduates who are in college or want to attend. A number of states give illegal al iens access to taxpayer subsidized, in-state tuition rates but most do not. Pro-illegal alien university administrators and state legislators are now making the case for extending in-state tuition to recipients. Other public benefits are at stake, too.
Please click here to send your governor a fax that asks him/her to follow the lead of the Arizona and Mississippi governors in issuing an executive order that precludes driver's licenses or other benefits for deferred-action recipients.
Also, please call your governor with the followi ng message:
"I am an active voter who strongly opposes the Obama Administration's effort to give illegal aliens deferred action status. Please issue an executive order, like the Arizona and Mississippi governors, that prevents deferred-action recipients from getting state driver's licenses or other public benefits."
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Glenn agrees with Obama: this is the biggest election yet
Of course, Glenn agrees for a completely different reason. Barack Obama warned us 4 years ago that he would 'fundamentally transform America' if he were elected. He's doing it and if he has another 4 years it's uncertain if America as we know it would survive. Glenn has the new Obama ad and reaction on radio - WATCH.
Anderson Cooper destroys Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Anderson Cooper has always been one of Glenn's favorite people and last night he showed why. When he sees BS he will pounce, and whenever Debbie Wasserman Schultz is around there's usually a big heaping pile of BS. She was on his program last night and you must see this exchange where he catches her in a blatant lie. Glenn plays the clip & reacts on radio.

Ex-marine Brandon Raub's incredible (scary) story
Fortunately this frightening and bizarre tale had a happy ending -- a judge stepped in and ordered the release of Brandon Raub yesterday based on the lack of charges against him. Despite having a few non-mainstream opinions, Raub showed no signs of mental health issues yet was about to be carted for 30 days of involuntary mental health examinations. Glenn has the shocking details of the story.
