Norquist Repudiates Romney-Ryan on Defense
Posted by Frank Gaffney on Aug 17th, 2012
On Monday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, were sharply criticized over their commitment to reverse massive budget cuts Team Obama is making at the expense of our military capabilities and national security.
What made this attack notable - and potentially very damaging to the GOP standard-bearers - is that it came, not from the Democrats, but from a prominent Republican political operative, Grover Norquist. It is hard to see how his contention that Messrs. Romney and Ryan can't be trusted to spend wisely on defense will help anybody but their opponents.
In remarks to the bipartisan Center for the National Interest, Norquist threw down the gauntlet to the Republican ticket. He declared he would fight defense spending increases, or even relief from the next, debilitating round of cuts. These amount to a further half-a-trillion dollars in across-the-board cuts over ten years under what has been called a "doomsday mechanism" known on Capitol Hill as "sequestration." What makes matters much worse is that these cuts come on top of nearly $800 billion in Pentagon budget reductions already in the pipeline - a fact the anti-tax activist studiously ignores.

Is GM Really Going to Go Bankrupt Again?
Louis Woodhill at Forbes seems to think so:
President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. That's good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.
He's right about the president being awfully proud of "rescuing" GM. Remember this from last week?

The Blaze | by Becket Adams | Posted on August 19, 2012 at 5:21pm
Now, we all know Newsweek isn't shy when it comes to controversial cover photos and headline stories. Indeed, on more than a few occasions, Newsweek Editor Tina Brown has had to defend the magazine's less-than-flattering photos and oftentimes incendiary articles. Everyone's also familiar with the publication's left-leaning tendencies, right? Right. Well, that's precisely why Newsweek's latest cover may surprise you:

Hostile Takeover at the State Level
CBS News
Tea party activists in Georgia helped kill a proposed sales tax increase that would have raised billions of dollars for transportation projects. In Pennsylvania, tea partyers pushed to have taxpayers send public school children to private schools. In Ohio, they drove a referendum to block state health insurance mandates.
These and other battles are evidence of the latest phase of the conservative movement, influencing state and local policy, perhaps more effectively than on a national level. Tea party organizers are refocusing, sometimes without the party label, to build broader support for their initiatives. The strategy has produced victories that activists say prove their staying power. Read More

New Campaign launched by former CIA, Special Operations Members to combat leaks and politicization of National Security Info
Kicks Off Nationwide With Release Of Documentary Short Film Titled "Dishonorable Disclosures"
OPSEC Website: http://www.opsecteam.org/
Former CIA and Special Operations members are announcing the creation of OPSEC, a new nationwide public campaign to combat the spike in leaks and politicization of Intelligence and Special Operations missions that threaten their effectiveness and the safety of Americans who conduct them. OPSEC - short for Operational Security, meaning to eliminate or reduce the exploitation of critical information - will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a new documentary short film highlighting the problem from the perspective of those who have served in these critical positions. The film will also serve as the basis for a TV and online advertising effort.

"Intelligence and Special Operations members are angry and frustrated at how our work has been used for political advantage by officials across government, including President Obama himself who bears special responsibility as Commander in Chief," said Scott Taylor, chairman of OPSEC and a former Navy SEAL. "We want the American people to understand the cost of these leaks and politicization both on those who serve and on our national security and to hold those in positions of leadership accountable if it doesn't stop."
OPSEC is made up of individuals who served their country in the CIA, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) consisting of Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations. It is organized as a 501(c)(4) nonpartisan public education campaign and is independent of any political party or campaign organization.
The campaign will begin with the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures," a documentary short film that views the impact of the increasing number of leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions, tradecraft, tactics and capabilities from the perspective of those who have relied on these tools to carryout similar missions and protect themselves and those they served alongside. The film will be shown at events in key states across the country over the next several months, including Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina and Nevada. "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be seen here.
"Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk," said Fred Rustmann, an OPSEC member and 24-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency. "OPSEC will carry a strong message across the country that it's time for President Obama and other administration officials to stop jeopardizing national security operations for political gain."
More information about OPSEC and news about the release of "Dishonorable Disclosures" can be found at http://www.opsecteam.org/.

Sept. 11, 2012: Come to Pamela Geller's Free Speech SION event at the UN Plaza in New York City
If you're anywhere near New York on 9/11, check out this invitation to attend Pamela Geller's FREE SPEECH event
SION to Hold International Congress and Media Workshop to Address Islamic Supremacist War Against Free Speech
The world's leading forces for freedom will be there. There is a suggested contribution of $36 per person. Register now, space is limited. September 11, 2012, UN Plaza Millenium Hotel, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
Email: PamelaGeller@gmail.com to register.
NEW YORK: The first session of the International Freedom Defense Congress, the operating body of the human rights organization Stop Islamization of Nations (SION), will be held in New York on September 11, 2012. The principal focus of the Congress will be a media workshop pertaining to Islamic supremacist attempts to restrict the freedom of speech in the free world, and the smear campaigns against freedom fighters in newspapers and media institutions in the West.
"The objective of this first-of-its-kind workshop is to develop media-related mechanisms to address the smear campaigns," SION said in a statement. It will also address the media's double standard regarding Islam and other religions, as epitomized in March 2012 by the New York Times' running of an anti-Catholic smear ad and rejection of a SION ad telling the truth about Islamic jihad.
It said the workshop will discuss at length the reasons behind and the results of the Western media's offensive campaigns against freedom of speech and the truth about Islam, jihad, Islamic supremacism and Muslims, which it added still occur from time to time.
"The workshop will represent a quantum leap in media action, as it discusses, beyond rhetoric, the practical steps to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech," SION President Pamela Geller said. Fighting Back in the War on Free Speech Pamela Geller, March 18, 2012
Freedom fighters from all over the globe, journalists, intellectuals and academicians will be among the participants in the workshop, which will consist of brainstorming sessions to develop mechanisms for cooperation with external partners, and to develop an action plan to address the phenomenon of the Islamic war against free speech.
The organization noted that the workshop is of particular importance as it is the first ever to address the implications of Resolution 16/18 of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the stated goal of which is to "combat intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatisation of, discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief," but which is actually designed to restrict truthful speech about Islamic supremacism and jihad, so as to render the West mute and defenseless before the advancing threat of jihad and Sharia.
Resolution 16/18, which was adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March 2011, was backed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the most recent Istanbul Process Conference in Washington in December.
This is widely viewed as a significant step toward furthering OIC efforts to destroy the freedom of speech and impose Sharia blasphemy laws on the free world.
"We are holding this Congress on the eleventh anniversary of the day jihad came to America in order to strike a blow for freedom," Geller said.
SION President Geller is the author of Stop Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance (WND Books) and The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration's War On America (Simon & Schuster). SION Vice President is the acclaimed author and Islam expert, Robert Spencer, author of the New York Times bestsellers, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades) and The Truth About Muhammad (both Regnery).
The SION Board of Advisers also includes Oskar Freysinger, a Swiss Parliamentarian and member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP), who won international renown for his leadership of the successful campaign against the construction of minarets in Switzerland; Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in Media (AIM) and a leader of the struggle to keep the jihadist propaganda network Al-Jazeera off American airwaves; Dr. Ashraf Rameleh, President of Voice of the Copts, an international organization standing up for the human rights of Coptic Christians and all religious minorities against religious bigotry and intolerance; Dr. Ali Sina, the renowned ex-Muslim author and founder of FaithFreedom.org; Dr. Wafa Sultan, the ex-Muslim human rights activist and author; the German pro-freedom activist Stefan Herre of Politically Incorrect; the Israeli author Dr. Mordechai Kedar; the Hindu human rights activist Babu Suseelan; Anders Gravers of Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE); and Canadian publisher and free speech defender Ezra Levant.
Speakers at SION's International Freedom Defense Congress will include Kedar, Rameleh, Sina, Kincaid, and Gravers, as well as Danish free speech advocate Lars Hedegaard; Italian human rights activists Magdi Christiano Allam and Valentina Colombo; English politician and freedom fighter Paul Weston; and renowned Muhammad cartoonist Lars Vilks. More speakers will be announced shortly.
SION stands for:
-- The freedom of speech - as opposed to Islamic prohibitions of "blasphemy" and "slander," which are used effectively to quash honest discussion of jihad and Islamic supremacism; -- The freedom of conscience - as opposed to the Islamic death penalty for apostasy; -- The equality of rights of all people before the law - as opposed to Sharia's institutionalized discrimination against women and non-Muslims.
Join the SION Facebook group here.

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21
| | By Kelly OConnell
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.
I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development
The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.
A. Ramsar Convention (1971)
According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). Another site, Texans Against Agenda 21, also states that the seed agreement for Agenda 21 was Ramsar:

SMART METER ALERT! Dear Patriots, Peco has stopped installing Smart Meters which are part of UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). If you have had a Smart Meter installed on your home, you should immediately call Peco and tell them to remove it. These fires have been reported in other states after the meters were installed. http://www.myfoxphilly.com/story/19289039/peco-halts-smart-meter-installation-program#.UCxNmtghRs1.facebook For those that have already had the Smart Meter installed on their home, Peco will return, test the meter, and place a warning sign on the meter with a device that should a fire start, the meter will shut off. New reports are that Peco has switched overnight to another provider for these meters, assuring the public that these will be safe. Are we to trust this company, the same one that put fire hazards on 186,000 homes in PA? Now is the time to act! The ball is in our court. I will be trying to go up to Harrisburg in September to push to get legislation out of committee. Maybe we are being given time to stop part of UN agenda 21. Call PECO and tell them no to the "new technology" meters. Thank you. Paula Stiles Chesco Patriots Mark, Joe, Betty & Jeff VFPATRIOTS.com

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Dear Friends,
We have 78 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.
If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent
nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.
We do not have to travel down this road. We can change the course. You can help steer America in the right direction.
If you want an America where free enterprise is respected and ObamaCare is repealed,
and not the other way, stay in the area this summer & fall . Volunteer at Republican Victory Centers.

I have some very exciting news! Citizens United Productions has just announced an all rights distribution deal for our newest film Occupy Unmasked with Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, owned by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner. Magnet is giving the film a limited theatrical release with VOD in late September to be followed by the DVD release. I've attached the full press release at the bottom of this email. While the Liberal establishment and mainstream media portray the Occupy Wall Street movement as organic and nonviolent, Occupy Unmasked reveals the sinister, organized, and highly orchestrated nature of its leaders and their number one goal: Not just to change government, but to destroy it. Led by hugely influential conservative visionary, the late Andrew Breitbart, Occupy Unmasked delves deep beneath the surface of the Occupy movement to show its dark anarchist roots. Behind the largely naïve students and legitimately concerned citizens looking for answers stand those who advocate the use of violence, black bloc operations, and intimidation as protest tactics - the same tactics they used during the anti-war protests of the 1960's, anti-nuclear weapons protests of the 80's, WTO protests of the 90's, and the IMF protests of recent years. Former leftists turned patriotic citizen journalists Brandon Darby, David Horowitz, Pam Keys, Anita MonCrief, Mandy Nagy, Lee Stranahan, and others take viewers into the Occupy camps around the country to see first-hand the truth of what is happening and who is at the heart of the movement. Exclusive footage and eyewitness accounts tell the story of the criminal activity and raw brutality in the camps - much of which has not been reported by the mainstream media. Directed by Stephen K. Bannon (The Undefeated, Generation Zero), Occupy Unmasked is an eye-opening look at a startling movement that could have a dangerous impact on the future of America. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS EXPLOSIVE FILM! Sincerely, David N. BossiePresident of Citizens United Executive Producer of Occupy Unmasked P.S. We continue to take pre-orders so be the first to own Occupy Unmasked on DVD by purchasing TODAY!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Magnet Releasing to Distribute Andrew Breitbart Doc OCCUPY UNMASKED New York, August 6, 2012 - The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnet Releasing announced today an all rights distribution deal for Citizens United Productions' documentary OCCUPY UNMASKED, one of the last projects featuring the late conservative icon Andrew Breitbart. OCCUPY UNMASKED was written and directed by award-winning director Stephen K. Bannon and produced by David N. Bossie. Magnet is giving the film a limited theatrical release day and date with VOD in late September. "This film is controversial, and that's exactly the reason we want to ensure it can find its audience prior to the November elections," said Mark Cuban, co-owner of Magnet. "I look forward to our partnership with Citizens United Productions and to getting this film out to the masses." OCCUPY UNMASKED takes viewers into the Occupy Wall Street camps around the country in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Portland, Denver and Oakland for an up-close look at what's happened there and who's at the heart of the movement, documenting criminal activity and raw brutality in the camps - much of which has not been reported by the mainstream media. In addition to Andrew Breitbart, the film features journalists Brandon Darby, David Horowitz, Pam Keys, Anita MonCrief, Mandy Nagy, and Lee Stranahan. "I am proud to announce that Citizens United Productions is teaming up with Mark Cuban and Magnet to distribute OCCUPY UNMASKED, and elevate the film the Left does not want the American people to see," said Producer David N. Bossie. "This distribution deal will keep the groundbreaking work of the late conservative icon Andrew Breitbart alive for years to come." "As a dear friend of Andrew's, I could not be more thrilled that this deal got completed and all Americans will have an opportunity to see one of Andrew Breitbart's final pieces of work," said writer/director Stephen K. Bannon. "This film is important because it sheds new light on the myth of the Occupy Wall Street movement. I know audiences across the country will be startled by what we uncovered in this explosive documentary." |

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Defense of Environment and Property Act You and I are on the verge of losing a vital battle to stop the EPA's reign of terror on property owners. The only way to win is to strongly demand that more members of the U.S. Senate co-sponsor and support Senator Rand Paul's new bill. If we fail, the bill will die. Let me explain. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Fish and Wildlife Service have become OUTLAW agencies of our federal government. And it's time we brought them under control. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has introduced a bill to do just that. It's called the Defense of Environment and Property Act of 2012 (S. 2122). Senator Paul's Bill is vital for the protection of private property and personal freedom. It is a new weapon to stop enforcement of Agenda 21 policies. It is urgent that you sign the enclosed petition to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urging support for S.2122 so that we can finally put a stop to the outrages of these outlaw agencies. Why do I call these federal agencies Outlaws? Because they are making their own rules under the pretext of enforcing federal law, particularly the Clean Water Act. As a result, they are ruining the lives of innocent, law abiding Americans and locking away millions of acres of private land - using the excuse of protecting the environment.
- They pretend that occasional mud puddles are wet lands that have to be protected.
- They arrest property owners for simply improving their land, claiming they have violated the Clean Water Act. Many have served prison time for nothing more than putting some fill dirt in a ditch.
- They block property owners from building on their land.
- And they issue crushing fines against property owners, even when there is no proven violation.
- They sneak onto private land looking for violations. And sometimes they even manufacture those violations and then arrest the owners.
- And when they declare an area of the property to be a wetland, true or not, the property owner can no longer use the land, nor sell it.
This is government out of control. This is a tyranny orchestrated to enforce the policies of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. But you and I can stop it. We need to build support for Senator Paul's Bill, "Defense of Environment and Property Act, S.2122." His bill defines exactly what a "navigable water way" is. It is not a mud puddle or a temporary runoff of rain water. How sad it is that a Senate Bill has to clarify these definitions for government agencies entrusted to comply with the law. But that's what must be done. Senator Paul's bill also makes it mandatory that Federal agents get written permission from the property owner to enter the land. No more sneaking! And finally, Senator Paul's bill tells the federal government that, if it takes private land, then it has to pay double the value of the land to the landowner. Why? Because once the government declares that land is a wetland - the property value plummets. Doubling the price will help enforce the "just compensation" provisions of the 5th Amendment to the Constitution. S.2122 will help stop enforcement of the UN's Agenda 21 that the EPA and these other federal agencies are working to enforce. So, please, right now, sign your enclosed "Support S.2122" petition to your U.S. Senator I need thousands of these signed petitions to build support for the bill. Remember, we have to force it past Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - one of the worst violators of American property rights and individual liberties. And he decides what bills are brought to the Senate floor for a vote. Only by flooding Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office with signed petitions can we bi-pass Harry Reid and force a vote for S.2122. The good news is that Senator Paul is Senator McConnell's fellow senator from Kentucky. He will help us get a vote if he sees enough support for the bill from Americans nationwide. But it won't happen without our efforts! So please sign your petition today! And, if you can, please call your two Senators and demand they co-sponsors the bill. 30 co-sponsors would assure the bill would get action. And will you also include a contribution to APC with your signed petition? APC has been on the front lines fighting these agencies for many years. In fact, APC is one of the only organizations that's been in this fight from the beginning. I have personally worked with some of the victims I've described here. I have shared their tears and frustrations and I pledged to get justice for them. You and I must stop these outlaw agencies before they ruin the lives of more innocent Americans. Your financial support of APC will help make sure that happens. You have seen what APC can do when we take on a battle. The huge national battle now raging across the nation against Agenda 21 is a direct result of APC's 18 year fight to expose this massive UN threat. I never gave up. I kept fighting against all odds. And as a result - today we are making huge progress to in stopping Agenda 21. Your financial support is all I have to wage these battles. No corporations will give us grants because APC is too controversial. Nor will any large foundations - for the same reason. And that's OK with me. I much prefer to be supported by dedicated individual contributors like you. That keeps APC independent and much more effective in our fight against the tyrannical forces like the UN and the EPA. So, please, will you help me lead this battle to pass Senator Rand Paul's Defense of Environment and Property Act (S.2122) so we can reign in these outlaw agencies. Whatever amount you can send - I urgently need it today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will do everything he can to kill S. 2122 so that these outlaw agencies can continue to terrorize American property owners. With your signed petition to Minority Leader McConnell, and your generous contribution to APC today, we can win. Please join me in this battle to stop these outlaw agencies. Click here to sign your petition now Sincerely, Tom DeWeese President P.S. Senator Paul's bill needs more co-sponsors to stay alive. The best way to get them is to call your two senators and ask them to co-sponsor. Tell them it is vital that we reign in the power of this outlaw agency before it destroys our property rights. I've enclosed the phone number for the U.S. Senate switch board on the enclosed reply form. Please do it today.
Tom DeWeese's Newsire It Begins... Federal Government Sues to Gain Control of Southern State's Water Supply Gateway Pundit | "The lawyers told the committee the U.S. government is apparently trying to take over legal management of the state's water supply. The federal government has asserted claims for damages to groundwater in a natural resource damage case in New Mexico involving Chevron/Molycorp. The claim seeks for those damages to be awarded in the form of future water rights management." All over the country water rights are being stolen. In Tennessee it is for "mitigation" purposes, in California it is for the "smelt" (a tiny fish). You name a state and if the powers-that-be haven't begun the theft of water rights, they have the blueprint on their desks. Without water we cannot live; they know that but do most Americans? If so, where are their voices? [Read the full article] Tom DeWeese Of American Policy Center At Fauquier County Tea Party Protest Yesterday this blog was privileged to attend and document a protest in favor of liberty, private property, and the general American imperative to resist the Bloomberg-ification (if you will) of our lives. To all "Stop Agenda 21" Activists: I need your help. APC is helping to build a comprehensive research archive of information in our fight against Agenda 21. Right now, we need hi resolution photos and videos of town hall meetings or other gatherings, such as rallies in front of city hall, etc. This material must not be copyrighted. This can include photos of movement leaders, perhaps speaking to groups and rallies, photos of local planning meetings, the UN, the HUD and EPA buildings, local planned communities in your area, of land that has been grabbed, businesses that have been shut down, anything related to sustainable development policies and related results. Send your photos and videos to (online) at admin@americanpolicy.org, or, if not online, mail to American Policy Center, P.O. Box 3598, Warrenton, VA 20188. Be sure to describe what you are sending! Thanks, Tom
SFL It's coming! ...and the battle to stop Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development will be electrified! Watch for my announcement in coming weeks.

Dear Patriot,
Here's what's going on in Florida:
Allen West has been forced by redistricting to run in a brand new congressional district.
He has drawn a very, very tough and well-funded opponent.
Crazed leftist activists are mobilizing across America to help defeat Congressman Allen West. Millions in contributions from left-wing super donors are pouring into his district.
Nancy Pelosi is even personally campaigning against this conservative superstar.
And the most recent public poll says Allen West is in big trouble.
Please make an urgent donation of $15, $20, $25, $50, $100, $250 or whatever you can afford to help Conservative StrikeForce PAC's emergency campaign to reelect Allen West.
Allen West is now an underdog for reelection. That's why Conservative StrikeForce is mobilizing for this man.
And we need your help. NOW!
We need to raise $17,257 in the next three days to begin our grassroots campaign to save Allen West.
While most conservatives have been focused on retaking the Senate and electing Mitt Romney, Nancy Pelosi has been hard at work behind the scenes organizing and funding a massive campaign to defeat Congressman West.
She DESPISES Allen West and will do anything she can to defeat him.
She has recruited George Soros, the leftist billionaire, to fund an unprecedented wave of attack ads.
She has urged every left-wing group in the nation to help defeat this conservative hero.
And she is personally attacking Allen West in one of the most vicious campaigns I have ever seen.
Frankly, it isn't surprising that Allen West's liberal opponent, Patrick Murphy, has the momentum and has drawn even with West in the polls.
The conservative tea-party grassroots must now wake up and get involved.
And the Conservative StrikeForce PAC is getting involved in a BIG way!
Our emergency effort will provide Congressman West with the additional campaign firepower he will need if he is to win a second term in Congress.
We are working overtime right now to assemble a top-notch voter contact and get-out-the vote program for his district.
Our goal is to identify and turn out conservative voters and counter the massive left-wing operation that's been unleashed on Congressman West.
This is a major, emergency grassroots effort. And I desperately need your help to get it off the ground.
I absolutely must raise $17,257 in the next seventy-two hours.
You see, the liberal independent PACs have a head start on us in this race. We need to work overtime to catch up.
That's why I must raise this $17,257 in the next three days.
We need to do a full voter analysis of Allen West's district. We need to draw up initial media plans for any ads we might need to run. We need to assemble phone lists and neighborhood walk plans.
And we need to get started on all these tasks right now. We can't wait even a single week to launch this campaign.
This truly is an emergency. Allen West needs our help and he needs it NOW.
Please help us save Allan West. Make the most generous contribution you possibly can.
Thank you in advance for your help.
For America,
Dennis Whitfield Chairman, Conservative StrikeForce PAC

"How Did Harry Reid Get Rich?" By Betsy Woodruff Originally posted August 15, 2012
"Try this thought experiment. Imagine that someone grows up in poverty, works his way through law school by holding the night shift as a Capitol Hill policeman, and spends all but two years of his career as a public servant. Now imagine that this person's current salary - and he's at the top of his game - is $193,400. You probably wouldn't expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate."

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. RedState Morning Briefing
For August 20, 2012
1. The Strategic Failure of the Obama campaign
We are one week into Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan. A number of polls are coming out telling a variety of stories about what it means. But one thing is clear: Barack Obama's campaign has had several significant strategic failures this summer. And they failed to define Paul Ryan out of the gate with their Mediscare tactics. And they failed to define Mitt Romney this summer with a huge campaign spend.
The Obama campaign hoped to use the summer to define Mitt Romney. They spent $25 million in May ads. Obama spent $58m in June. What effect did it have? At the end of July, Purple Strategies, a bipartisan polling firm, found (PDF) that Romney has pulled ahead of Obama, even as Obama's favorability ticked up slightly. Obama's out of control campaign spending yielded nothing, just like his out of control government spending yielded nothing. Politico even described that poll as giving the Ryan pick a small bump for the Romney campaign.
2. Todd Akin's Dumb Comment vs. Obama's Support of Infanticide
Todd Akin, the Republican Senate nominee in Missouri, made an inarticulate and rather dumb statement about rape and abortion on television in Missouri. He subsequently clarified his remarks. Congressman Akin, like many devout Christians, does not believe in a rape exception for abortion.
Naturally, the very same left that gave Joe Biden a pass on his "put y'all back in chains" comment is horrid by Todd Akin's remarks.
Todd Akin was inarticulate. Some are now accusing him of being pro-rape. The people horrid by Todd Akin's remarks are, I'm sure, thrilled to have a President who defended infanticide. I'll take Todd Akin's inarticulate remarks over an infanticide supporter any day of the week.
3. False Sense of (Energy) Security
Superficially, it would seem that the nation is successfully pursuing the Obama Administration's stated energy goals of "increasing domestic oil production" and "reducing our dependence on foreign oil." Domestic oil production has increased, but in spite of and not because of Administration policies. And while our overall oil import demand has declined, our imports from the Persian Gulf states, and Saudi Arabia in particular, have actually grown dramatically to make up for shortfalls from Mexico and elsewhere.
There are two separate issues with regard to the supply of petroleum and refined products: Price, and Security of Supply.
4. Evil Preaches Tolerance
On Twitter, Chris Ziegler flags another example of left-wing intolerance. The Republican Party of Sarasota County in Florida put up a "Repeal Obama" billboard on Friday. Today it stands destroyed.

"That really bothered me," he said. "You notice he said anger twice. He's really trying to use racial coding and access some really deep stereotypes about the angry black man. This is part of the playbook against Obama, the 'otherization,' he's not like us."
"I know it's a heavy thing, I don't say it lightly, but this is 'niggerization,'" Touré said to the apparent shock of his co-panelists. "You are not one of us, you are like the scary black man who we've been trained to fear."
Naturally this led to a battle between Touré and conservative co-host S.E. Cupp. She took particular issue with the fact that Touré admitted that VP Joe Biden's "chains" comments were divisive, but is now calling Romney a "racist" for saying the Obama campaign is "angry."
"Do you see how dishonest that is?" she asked.

In Case You Missed It:
Poll: Romney cares more than Obama about Israel
Jerusalem Post (August 16, 2012)
...According to the poll, conducted by the Dahaf Institute on August 7-8, 40 percent of the respondents said Romney, 19% Obama and 10% said "both to the same extent." Another 25% did not know, while 6% said "neither" [emphasis added].
When broken down even further - into the Left, Center and Right camps - Obama only fares well on the Left, with Romney polling significantly better both among those who consider themselves in the Center or on the Right on political-security issues.

Obama Edits Official State Department Documents to Tout Himself
Inserting himself into the biographies of past presidents on the White House website apparently wasn't enough for President Obama. His State Department is now editing its descriptions of foreign countries into yet another taxpayer-subsidized campaign commercial for the Obama Administration. The State Department has recently ended its long-running series of Background Notes, which were analytical, objective histories of other countries. In their place, new "Fact Sheets" now tout Obama's policies and actions toward each nation. No more historical context, no recounting of complex and long-standing issues in the country. Just cut to the chase-that is, the time when the current Administration came to power. Heritage's Jim Roberts, one of the editors of Heritage's Index of Economic Freedom, was struck by the disproportionate change in emphasis while doing some research recently. Roberts, who worked at the State Department from 1982 to 2007 and used to write these country profiles, said he had never seen edits like these under either previous Republican or Democratic Administrations. Roberts noted that "They seem to be not 'fact sheets' but brag sheets," adding that the edits appear to treat countries more favorably when the Obama Administration agrees with their leaders. Roberts is in the process of examining the differences between the historical Background Notes and the new, Obama-centric Fact Sheets. He reveals:
Compare the nearly 1,200-word "Fact Sheet" published this week by the U.S. embassy in Brazil with the last Background Note on Brazil written during the George W. Bush Administration. The 4,100-word Bush document, chock full of facts and figures helpful in analyzing the country and its importance to the U.S., never once mentions the name of any U.S. President. The 300-word section on U.S.-Brazil relations takes up about 7 percent of the document. Conversely, fully 70 percent (830 words) of the Brazil Fact Sheet, which is focused exclusively on U.S. relations with Brazil, discusses President Obama either directly by name (twice!) or in the context of the plethora of programs his Administration has launched with Brazil, including a shared "commitment to combat discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) status; to advance gender equality; a bilateral instrument that targets racism; support for HIV/AIDS prevention, promotion of clean energy technologies in Brazil, and mitigation of climate change."
Thus far, Roberts has not found a comprehensive explanation for the debut of the Fact Sheets. The State Department's website simply says, "As of May 2012, Background Notes are no longer being updated or produced. They are in the process of being replaced by Fact Sheets that focus on U.S. relations with each country." Since President Obama took office, the budget of the State Department has increased from $38.7 billion to $50.2 billion, and thousands have been added to the payroll. Finding that these taxpayer-funded resources are being used to eliminate neutral publications that were highly useful to researchers-only to replace them with lopsided "facts" akin to a campaign commercial-is something the American people deserve to know. This follows an Administration trend that goes back to 2009. In March of that year, the Administration was caught editing President George W. Bush's biography to soften his listed accomplishments, and it quickly reversed course. Just a few months ago, it was discovered that White House staff had edited the biographies of many past presidents on whitehouse.gov to include a bullet point or two inserting President Obama into each historical narrative. These remain on the site, including a fabrication they inserted about President Ronald Reagan's tax policy to make it seem similar to Obama's. American officeholders are supposed to take great pains to separate their campaigns from their official duties. Using taxpayer resources to blatantly promote the president's positions on foreign policy-and even editing the historical record-is an egregious abuse of power.

August 16, 2012 Captain Fields supervisor admits retaliation "...the police department retaliated against [Fields] for exercising his constitutional rights." Wow. It's been nearly a year since ACT! for America held a rally in Tulsa in support of police Captain Paul Fields. After the rally we submitted a petition to the city with over 50,000 signatures demanding Captain Fields be reinstated. You may recall Captain Fields was disciplined because he refused to attend events at a local mosque, which included sitting in on Muslim teachings. Our friends at the Thomas More Law Center filed suit on Captain Fields' behalf. What recently surfaced in sworn testimony confirms what we have maintained all along-that Captain Fields' superiors retaliated against him. See the WND exclusive story (highlights added) below! Had enough of political correctness? Help us continue fighting radical Islam and its politically correct enablers.
WND EXCLUSIVE ADMITTED: CHRISTIAN COP PUNISHED OVER BELIEFS 'Creeping Shariah' hits city in American heartland by BOB UNRUH In a case spotlighted as an example of "creeping Shariah" in the United States, attorneys for a Tulsa, Okla., police officer have asked for a summary judgment because a police official inside the department testified the officer was punished for exercising his rights. The statement was included in a motion for summary judgment in the case brought by Capt. Paul Campbell Fields against the city of Tulsa, Chief Charles Jordan and Deputy Chief Alvin Webster. Fields sued when he was punished with a two-week unpaid suspension and a demotion for refusing department orders to attend an event at an Islamic mosque in which officers observed Islamic worship services, heard an explanation of Islamic beliefs and were proselytized. As a Christian, Fields believed the order violated his rights to freely exercise his own faith, but the department determined he was refusing a lawful order and punished him. A hearing is set for later this year in the case, but lawyers with the American Freedom Law Center and the Thomas More Law Center, who launched the case, have filed for the judgment. Find out what other plans there are for the U.S., in "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America" In the brief, they point out that Maj. Julie Harris, Fields' immediate supervisor, "candidly admitted during her sworn testimony that the police department retaliated against [Fields] for exercising his constitutional rights." She told the department's internal affairs investigation looking into Fields' actions, "If somebody had some deep, deep, deep religious conviction, and as long as there was no crime that they needed to investigate, there's no need for me to force this (Islamic mosque attendance) on anybody." She concluded that the charges against Fields should not be sustained, according to the brief, and later "was subjected to retaliation" herself because of her statement. The brief reveals that during depositions in the dispute, Harris was asked, "Do you believe the department took adverse action against [Fields] for exercising his rights?" "Yes," she responded. She also was asked, "If you believe Capt. Fields had a deeply held religious conviction opposing that order, [then] he would have a right to oppose that order based on that conviction?" Again, she responded, "Yes." The city police department did not respond to a WND message requesting comment on the developments. Robert Muise of the AFLC told WND the case is an example of the enforcement of Islamic religious law, or Shariah, across the nation today through various courts, orders and precedents. He noted that in Fields' case, never before had officers been ordered to attend a so-called "law enforcement appreciation day," until the local mosque leaders decided to hold one. Then, the attendance became mandatory. "This is indirectly the enforcement of Shariah, where if you say anything that's contrary to Islam, it's blasphemy and punishable," Muise explained. "This is very anti-Christian and an attack on Judeo-Christian values." "It's almost stealth jihad," he said. Muise said it wasn't until the last few years that he's encountered such actions in the U.S. But he's also battled similar conditions recently in Dearborn, Mich., and other locations where Islam is given precedence over other faiths. "All of these discussions about hate speech and signing onto these U.N. charters and transnational rules and regulations to guard against hate speech ... these are just enforcement of Islamic blasphemy laws. We have the First Amendment for a reason," he said. He said in Fields' case, the officers was punished for refusing to attend another faith's worship service and be proselytized. The motion was filed in federal court in Oklahoma, where the case is scheduled for a hearing in November. "In light of the undisputed facts and controlling law, Capt. Fields is entitled to a judgment in his favor that the city and its senior police officials violated his clearly established constitutional rights by ordering him to engage in conduct that was contrary to his Christian beliefs and then punishing him for not obeying the unlawful order," said Muise. The order for Fields to attend the mosque event was in February 2011. The event was held March 4, 2011, a Friday, which is the "holy day" for Islam. The legal team explained, "The so-called 'appreciation day' included 'Mosque tours,' which involved religious proselytizing, meeting 'Local Muslims & Leadership,' watching the 'weekly congregational prayer service,' and receiving presentations on Islamic 'beliefs,'" The complaint notes the Tulsa organization is affiliated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America - both "unindicted, co-conspirators and/or joint venturers in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial." ISNA, the case explains, is the "largest Muslim Brotherhood front in North America." The Tulsa organization has had featured speakers such as Imam Siraj Wahhaj, "a Shariah-adherent Muslim who promotes the destruction of Western civilization and the creation of an Islamic caliphate," according to the lawsuit. |

Obama's Biggest Lie: 'I'm Fighting For The Middle Class'
Mon, Aug 20 2012 00:00:00 EA16_ISSUES
Posted 08/17/2012
Politics: The president has positioned himself as a "warrior for the middle class," fighting against a ruling class of one-percenters. But a new book says Obama is really at war with middle America.
In fact, Obama hates the American middle class and all it represents, according to "Spreading the Wealth" by Stanley Kurtz. The president is secretly scheming to destroy it where it lives: the suburbs.
Of course, we don't hear that from the campaign.
As part of his "Middle Class and the Economy" bus tour, Obama last week traveled to Iowa and visited with a middle-class family in Cedar Rapids. He sat down with the McLaughlins at their kitchen table in a one-story suburban home and exalted their "hard work" and "all the things that make up a middle-class life."
At the same time, his campaign released a TV ad championing middle-class values and casting himself as a "warrior" for the middle class.
"I believe that the way you grow the economy is from the middle out," Obama said, adding he will tax "millionaires and billionaires" to help out the struggling middle class. "I believe in fighting for the middle class."
Baloney, says Kurtz.

The slogan under which Obama hopes to win the next four years is "Forward". "Forward" is the quintessential progressive slogan, progressives being people who are so forward-thinking that they want to remake the 21st Century in line with their 19th Century ideas. Progressivism, like so many other flavors of futurism, is so new it's old. It's the world of tomorrow as imagined by men with top hats and full beards whose Twitter-wielding descendants are still shouting, "March Forward!" at us 150 years later. The last century has represented a great love affair with the future. A hundred years of spring cleaning accompanied by the resounding cry, "Out with the old, in with the new." Everyone was a progressive now. The one thing that all the participants in the Second World War had in common was that they were all dreaming of the future. A Thousand Year Reich, a United Nations or Communism: millions died for the sake of a wonderful future.

ON THE AERODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF TIME You may have visited the blog this morning or in the afternoon and noticed that something was different. Sultan Knish has belatedly switched to a new template. If you're having problems with the new template or have any suggestions to offer, hit the comments section, which is now easier to get to use and to use. Time has a way of flying by and this blog, which it seems to me I just put up last week, is now on its fourth template. The last one, largely designed by my friend, Lemon Lime Moon, has lasted a good long time. While I'm not the designer that she is, I plunged in and for better or worse, you are either reading this on a new template or wondering why there's a blank grey space where the site used to be. They say that the shoemaker's child goes barefoot and the graphic designer's blog hasn't been updated since 2008. Some of the innovative state-of-the-art features that this blog now boasts, include functional search, which hasn't worked since Bing dropped its site search, and didn't even work then, comments that don't pop up in your face and marginally functional sidebars. What comes next? Anything is possible. Even a future update in less than 4 years. CAN YOU FEEL THE HATE? A great deal of attention has been paid to hate-filled protests in front of synagogues by the Westboro Baptist Church or school protests in Beit Shemesh, but in Ann Arbor hate-filled left-wing protests have taken place in front of a synagogue every Sabbath for a decade. What you are seeing is one of a few photos from Ann Arbor's Beth Israel Congregation and some of the photos get uglier than this. There has been astoundingly little media commentary on this, though if a right-wing group had been harassing a synagogue every Shabbat for a decade, there would have been four documentaries and eight books out on it by now.

Debunking the Paul Ryan Myths
By: Matthew Brooks, RJC Executive Director
It's only been a few days since he was added to the Republican ticket, but already the Democrat-driven Paul Ryan myths are piling up. In a ritual familiar to many of us from past GOP VP roll-outs, the feverish emails, hyped-up lists and overwrought press releases reveal a desperate Democratic Party straining to scare American voters - including Jewish voters. The aim this year is to get voters to focus on Ryan rather than President Obama's record of failure. And they're scared that voters will judge for themselves and come to the same conclusion as Bill Clinton's Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles, who offered this glowing assessment of Ryan and his signature budget.
Have any of you all met Paul Ryan? We should get him to come to the university. I'm telling you, this guy is amazing. I always thought I was okay at arithmetic, this guy can run circles around me. And he is honest, he is straightforward, he is sincere. And the budget he came forward with is just like Paul Ryan. It is a sensible, straightforward, honest, serious budget, and it cut the budget deficit, just like [the budget commission Bowles co-chaired] did, by $4 trillion.
That's a pretty good 'reference' given the work that lies ahead for the next President of the United States and his team. Especially in contrast to Bowles's assessment of the incumbent.
The president came out with his own plan. And, the president as you remember, came out with a budget. And I don't think anybody took that budget very seriously. The Senate voted against it 97-to-nothing.
The need to distract voters from making that sort of assessment of the two presidential tickets drives the zeal to propagate myths, some silly, some scurrilous. Here are just five we've seen since the weekend.
1. Paul Ryan is a social issues crusader
This is one of the most mindless and predictable attacks. While it's true that Ryan's views on social issues reflect his Midwestern congressional district, those issues have never been his focus. Also striking - Ryan parted ways with social conservatives
on one of the major gay rights issues considered by Congress during his tenure, a proposed law to ban job discrimination based on sexual preference.
2. Paul Ryan will take away your Bubbe's Medicare
The recent exchange between CNN's Wolf Blitzer and DNC Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz attracted a lot of attention, especially from amused Republicans. The serious take-away from the episode is that Wasserman Schultz was bound and determined not to admit that today's seniors - as well as those nearing retirement - will be unaffected by the Medicare reforms Ryan proposed in tandem with Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden. Democrats plainly intend to propagate this lie far and wide. But it's still a lie - and an egregious one given that the intent is to scare seniors.
Since Democrats are trying to suggest otherwise, it's also important to make clear that under the Ryan-Wyden plan, the decision to opt for a private plan instead of traditional Medicare would be left up to the individual, not dictated by the government.
3. Paul Ryan is a blank slate on foreign policy
It's pretty rich to hear people who promoted then-Sen. Barack Obama four years ago faulting Ryan for having specialized in other legislative areas than foreign policy. And while it's true that few can claim to have sat in as many committee hearings or gone on as many congressional trips as Joe Biden racked up in his 36 years in the Senate, it's also true that Biden is infamous for getting every important foreign policy question wrong - from the Cold War through the Iraq surge.
And Paul Ryan has an excellent record of support for the State of Israel, which is why Israel's Ambassador to the U.S. described him as 'very supportive' of the Jewish state within hours of the announcement that he was Romney's pick.
Paul Ryan has also demonstrated a consistent understanding of why our alliance with Israel is so critical - one that compares favorably to President Obama's equivocal record of support. Explaining his approach on his House of Representatives web site, he said:
America has no better friend in the Middle East than the nation of Israel... We cannot advocate for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that jeopardizes Israel's safety or legitimizes terrorism.
Notwithstanding Rep. Ryan's decision to make budget policy his area of specialization, he has demonstrated that he has reflected seriously on
our nation's role in the world.
Critics who say he has no relevant experience are almost certainly compounding egregious hypocrisy with credentialism. By their standard, Bill Clinton would have had even less foreign policy 'experience' than Ryan when he took the oath of office as President.
4. Paul Ryan opposed efforts to strengthen sanctions on Iran.
Rep. Ryan has supported every single Iran sanctions measure supported by AIPAC - the pro-Israel umbrella group - and cosponsored many of them. The bogus Iran sanctions charge is based on Republicans having voted as a bloc to reject Democratic procedural motions - motions whose only actual effect would be to torpedo unrelated legislation. While it's ludicrous to claim Ryan opposed measures to strengthen Iran sanctions, some journalists who know better have given this meritless charge some credence.
5. Paul Ryan is callous to those less fortunate than himself and is generally indifferent to social justice.
This is perhaps the ugliest item on the list because it reflects the politics of personal destruction. Rep. Ryan has articulately detailed and defended a view of social justice that is consistent with his Catholic faith and our common American tradition. It shows the influence of his mentor, Jack Kemp who promoted an opportunity society in which government would be there to protect the weak and vulnerable while minimizing obstacles to individual flourishing. People who are satisfied with our welfare state
status quo are free to defend it, but they overreach when they presume that it is the only possible framework for taking care of those in need. Given our inability to afford our current welfare state, they do the poor no favors when they lash out in personal terms at leaders like Paul Ryan who would reform it to better respond to our current challenges.
Another frequent claim is that Rep. Ryan is animated by Ayn Rand's ideas. Rep. Ryan has cited Rand's novels as among the books that have influenced him. So have many others from all points on the political spectrum. Rep. Ryan has also made it clear that he rejects her atheism and 'objectivism,' diverging from her legacy on a fundamental ethical level. Whatever the criticisms of his budget proposals, it's impossible to honestly portray the reformed government he envisions as a Randian utopia.

Protesters Occupy Obama Campaign Headquarters, Issue Demands

by Liberty Chick
In what appears to have been a coordinated action Thursday evening, Occupy protesters in Portland, Oregon and Oakland, California staged protests and have occupied the offices of Obama campaign headquarters in both locations.
A hostage negotiator is said to be speaking with a small group of protesters who, arms linked, locked themselves inside the Oakland office. It appears they may have entered the building during normal operating hours but have since remained inside beyond the office's regularly scheduled closing time. Police have been on the scene and were arresting the protesters at the time of this writing.

Alarming purchases by benign federal agencies: Why are the Social Security Admin and Weather Bureau buying bullet?
Aug 19, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By George Spelvin, staff writer
We've seen the stories about large purchases of ammunition being made by federal agencies that have nothing to do with our military or law enforcement. Why would the National Weather Service (46,000 rounds) and the Social Security Administration (174,000 rounds) need to purchase these large quantities of powerful ammo?
Perhaps the more important question is why these are otherwise nonthreatening agencies buying hollow point bullets that have been internationally outlawed since 1899?
The answer could be that Barack Obama is coming for your guns by using a 1961 Secretary of State Declaration to incrementally and too bad for America's Second Amendment rights. A new youtube video entitled "Troops Ordered to Kill All Americans Who do Not turn in Guns," is making cyber waves Big time! "Freedom From War, A U.S. Program for General and Complete Disarmament, No. 7277, dated September, 1961, lists the following ... San Francisco's anti-Semitic Democrats are siding with Jihadist savages over the safety of Israel
Aug 18, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
These people are not fooling around. Democrats have always been anti- Semites and their attitudes and actions toward Israel today are just the latest examples of their true feelings. The Democrat Party is the Party that gave us the Klu Klux Klan and quotas on Jews, Blacks Hispanics and Asians in every theater of competition in the public area.
Going back to when Franklin Roosevelt condemned 938 European Jews to death by turning away the St. Louis to avoid offending Adolph Hitler, the Democrats have always shown a certain subsurface hatred for Jews.
A shocking story from of the Democrat cesspool of San Francisco reminds us that one thing that has always held Democrats together is their Anti-Semitism. Two positions on Israel "Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon" or do nothing and hope
Aug 18, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

Upon seeing that international talks with Iran over its nuclear program had failed, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, insisted that "Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon." Israel's deputy foreign minister, Danny Ayalon, asked the negotiations with the Islamic state to be declared a failure and Iran to be presented with an ultimatum to halt its nuclear program in a few weeks.

Intelligence reports obtained by Israel from the United States and other countries have shown that Iran is further along in the development of a nuclear weapon than was reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Terror front-group CAIR seeks to bully Romney into renouncing critics of Islam
Aug 17, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
The Hamas-linked, terror supporting Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is hoping to coerce Mitt Romney into public "submission" by demanding he explain the reason for his one-on-one meeting with retired Lieutenant General William "Jerry" Boykin last week.
That all might be familiar with the players, CAIR is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, the biggest terror-financing case in American history. According to a CAIR document entered into evidence at the trial, the peace-loving organization proudly admits that "...their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands ... so that ... God's religion [Islam] is made victorious over all other religions." (1)
Of course, an unindicted co-conspirator is a potential defendant against whom ample evidence of guilt has been assembled, yet which, for tactical ... Continue Reading:Terror front-group CAIR seeks to bully Romney into renouncing critics of Islam

Lower expected turnout, Youth vote shift toward Romney and his own tv ads hurting Obama
Aug 17, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
According to a new USA Today/Suffolk University poll the voter turnout next November will be around 1.6% less than it was in 2008. The survey found, "Most of the non-voters would choose Barack Obama over Mitt Romney..."
A noted political "expert" thinks Independents will be chased away from the polls by the extremely negative campaigning from Barack Obama and the Democrats, and that is their goal. He opines, "One of the reasons the Democrats have been so much more negative thus far this year is that they are just trying to keep the independents at home because the polls suggest there is still a larger Democratic base still than a Republican base."
The truth is "the polls" don't suggest there are more Democrats than Republicans, in fact they tell us just the opposite and they have indicated this for a long time. Moreover, the latest Rasmussen poll of generic preference for ... Continue Reading:Lower expected turnout, Youth vote shift toward Romney and his own tv ads hurting Obama

Pictures of Obama's illegal aliens lined up to steal America jobs will burn him in November
Aug 16, 2012 12:13 pm | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
A picture of "tens of thousands" of Barack Obama's Chicago's illegal aliens lining up to complete the process to "legally" steal jobs from unemployed/underemployed Americans will prove the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand words." For Americans searching for work this image has to be downright sickening. It will come back to bite Barack Obama in November.
Initially when Barack Obama decided to use our money our jobs and our lives to buy Hispanic votes with his illegal amnesty of illegal aliens it seemed like he had produced a stroke of genius. The media fawned over the president (don't they always?) and all was well in Leftistville. There would be an influx of once illegal aliens who would now become newly registered Democrats. "So what if they're not citizens - they're Americans just like you and me!" the Democrats' media cheerleaders told us. But alas for Team Obama, that was ... Atheists' lawsuit: Ground Zero cross making us sick

Does it hurt and have a temperature?
Apparently so - if a group of atheists, who claim a memorial at Ground Zero incorporating two intersecting steel beams that survived the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11 has caused them dyspepsia, headaches, anxiety and anguish, can be believed.
Strange, though ... we thought crosses only did that to vampires.

Will THIS court end 'gay' bullying of Christians?
|
Even though New Mexico doesn't recognize civil unions or "marriage" between parties of the same sex, a Christian photographer found herself dragged through the courts and fined $6,000 for refusing to provide her services to a lesbian pair's "commitment ceremony". This is not an isolated incident - it's a tactic being employed successfully across the country. Now New Mexico's Supreme Court has agreed to look at this use of the law to force people to violate their faith or be fined.

Who is winning the Medicare debate so far?
Posted: 18 Aug 2012 02:42 PM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Yuval Levin argues that the Obama campaign's Medicare-based attacks on Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan aren't working so far and are unlikely ultimately to succeed. But Levin bases these claims on his view of the dynamics of the argument, not on any data as to how voters perceive the matter.
Team Obama has only just begun its Mediscare campaign. Thus, it would be premature to underestimate the force of this attack, or even to declare either side ahead.
Still, Levin makes some good points. Although I think that he and others may overstate the extent to which this issue will turn on its merits, the Romney-Ryan team has four strong arguments that, because they are easy to understand, should hold up well. First, their plan doesn't change Medicare for current seniors and near-retirees. Second, Obama has stripped more than half a trillion dollars out of Medicare. Third, without reform Medicare will go broke. Fourth, Obama has put forth no plan that can save Medicare.
According to Levin, the Democrats think they can trump these arguments because they have always been viewed as the Party that supports Medicare. Frighteningly, this might actually be true in an ordinary election. But with voters so unhappy with Obama, I doubt whether the electorate will reject his challenger as mindlessly as the Dems hope. Romney-Ryan should get what passes for a hearing on Medicare. So the four simple arguments set forth above probably cannot be brushed aside.
Finally, and along the same lines, Romney and Ryan probably don't have to win the Medicare debate. If they can fight it to a standoff, then presumably the election will turn on other issues - notably, of course, the jobs and economy.
A standoff may well be doable.

Heading for the regulatory cliff
Posted: 18 Aug 2012 01:23 PM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
It is pretty well understood that, in the absence of some sort of a deal, America faces a "fiscal cliff" at the beginning of next year. But Sen. Rob Portman shows that we are also headed over a steep "regulatory cliff" that could compound the damage.
The Obama administration already has been quite aggressive on the regulatory front. However, with the presidential election looming, it is holding back on imposing several multi-billion dollar regulatory burdens. As Portman shows, these regs, coupled with more than 130 unfinished mandates under Dodd-Frank, could significantly increase the regulatory drag on our economy.
For example, says Portman, EPA is sitting on a mega-rule that would impose a limit on ozone so strict that up to 85 percent of U.S. counties monitored by that Agency would be in violation. According to regulatory economist Susan Dudley, this rule would force many communities to forgo productive investment and hiring decisions in order to spend hundreds of billions of dollars per year to try to meet unattainable standards.
Call this the anti-stimulus regulation.
EPA's to-do list also includes a new rule that would increase energy costs by up to $4.5 billion. The rule targets equipment used by power plants to draw in water to prevent over-heating, a process that, according to Portman, is not harmful to human health or water quality. EPA's own original estimate said that this rule would cost one dollar for every three cents saved.
Call this the liberal idea of a bargain.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation is poised to issue a rule that will increase the costs of new cars and trucks by mandating expensive new technology. This rule would require that all cars and trucks be equipped with a rear-view camera and video display on the dashboard. Currently, this technology is available to consumers who desire it, and Portman says that 40 percent of new cars have it. But the Obama administration wants to force it on folks who don't want the system, or would prefer to economize.
Call this the Nanny State run amok.
Finally, the Labor Department, in its wisdom, is working on a plan that would increase the cost of retirement planning for U.S. workers by discouraging businesses from offering investment guidance on a commission basis (the way most of us obtain such advice privately), rather than the more expensive fee-for-services model. Portman cites a study showing that this rule could cause 7.2 million IRA holders to lose access to investment advice.
Call this the federally mandated "ignorance is bliss" model of investing.
The U.S. urgently needs a regulatory environment that encourages investment, growth, and job creation. Obama is determined to give us the opposite, but only after he has secured reelection.
Unlike the fiscal cliff, its regulatory counterpart cannot be avoided by a deal. Only the defeat of President Obama will suffice.

California Dreaming
Posted: 18 Aug 2012 09:39 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
I had to do a double take at the frontpage story in the Wall Street Journal a couple days ago with the headline "California's Boom Masks State's Uneven Recovery." Boom??? What boom? What "recovery"? What are they smoking at the headline desk of the Journal? The story is deeply confused, saying in the lede that "California added jobs faster than the rest of the nation over the past year," but then including the following chart that shows California gaining jobs "at a more sluggish pace" than the rest of the nation.
It is easy to be confused about California. The coastal regions, where I have lately relocated after a decade in Washington DC, appear to be doing fine-on the surface at least. Yes, home prices in Palo Alto and west LA seem to be strong, but I notice that the glossy local real estate mags for the central coast are notably thinner than usual, and prices appear soft, as though sellers have gotten discouraged. And here in my tourist coastal village of Cambria, although the tourist trade looks busy as usual, there are lots more empty commercial, office, and retail spaces than I can ever remember. If this is "recovery," I'd hate to see what a downturn looks like. People here just seem to be hanging on, waiting for real growth to resume.
Dickens needs to be updated: it's a tale of two states. As Victor Davis Hansen writes, there is no California any more: "Driving across California is like going from Mississippi to Massachusetts without ever crossing a state line." But even the coastal enclaves show signs of weakness. The Journal notes that even Silicon Valley is showing weaknesses. There have been considerable layoffs in the old-line semiconductor industry. True, Apple is about to open a new facility with 3,600 jobs-in Texas. Jerry Brown is was counting on the Facebook IPO to provide a fillip to the state's coffers through capital gains taxes like the good old days of the Internet bubble of the 1990s, but with the Facebook faceplant, that is proving to be another wistful dream. So instead Jerry hopes to raise income taxes on-wait for it-just the rich, in a ballot initiative this November. He'll pitch it as the only way to avoid deep cuts to schools, public safety, and so forth, and I hope the opponents of the measure will have the wit to show renderings of the high-speed rail to nowhere that the state's voters have turned against as a sign of Brown's real tax and spend priorities.
Robert J. Cristino points out at NewGeography.com that California is rapidly becoming "the new Detroit," with this important parallel:
Like Detroit, California now has one party rule. The Democrats of California did not need a single Republican vote to pass their budget. Governor Brown's plan is to address the nation's largest deficit by raising taxes instead of cutting spending. If passed, the deficit would drop from $20 billion to a mere $16 billion. The budget does nothing to cure the systemic problems of a bloated bureaucracy. It does not eliminate one of California's 519 state agencies.
So why in the world would any sensible person come back to this dysfunctional place? Well, California still has what economists call "exploitable asymmetries," that is, its climate and beauty mean the rapacious state can extract higher costs from people willing to pay a premium to live here, than, say, Arkansas or Michigan. You can make it just fine here if you have an occupation (like writing and blogging for Power Line) that doesn't require a permit from state or local government. But California long ago passed the point of equilibrium, and as long as it remains determined to have a Mediterranean fiscal policy to match its Mediterranean climate, it will continue to slide past Greece to becoming Detroit with sunshine.
And now, off to lunch at Big Sur with another California ex-pat, Michael Anton.

Remember What A REAL Recovery Looked Like?
Posted: 18 Aug 2012 07:55 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
When Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, he won in a landslide, carrying 49 states. Why? Because he had a great record to run on. His free-market policies led to explosive economic growth that blew away the stagflation of the Carter years and reinvigorated the American spirit. Reagan ran on a simple platform-freedom brings prosperity-as this ad from Americans For Prosperity reminds us:
Barack Obama can't run a campaign like Ronald Reagan's because he hasn't gotten Reagan's results. He hasn't gotten Reagan's results because he hasn't implemented Reagan's policies. Obama's policies have beed designed to limit freedom and increase dependence on government. If those were his goals, they have been spectacularly successful. But less freedom and more government have never led to prosperity, and never will. That is why Obama can't talk about his record, and instead devotes his campaign to fabricating malicious smears against his opponents.

Is This Some Kind of Joke?
Posted: 17 Aug 2012 02:25 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Buzzfeed chronicles some of the questions President Obama has answered lately. Heck, for all I know, this is all of them:
1. "If you had a super power, what would it be?"
2. "What's your favorite song to work out to?"
3. "Is [the campaign bus] comfortable?"
4. "Do you actually get to use your blackberry?"
5. "Red or Green [Chiles]?"
6. "What's your favorite New Mexican food?"
7. "If we were to visit Chicago, what place would you recommend to get some really good soul food?"
8. "I know your real favorite song has got to be 'Call Me Maybe.' You can tell us. It's okay."
Obama hasn't given a press conference since June, but I'm not sure that's the problem-he tends to get softball questions there, too. Reporters-not all of them, but the large majority-are trying to help Obama win the election, and many of them seem to think the best way to do that is by pretending that he is still popular, still a "rock star," still the candidate of hope and change. But I'm not sure they are doing him any favors. What Obama really is, is an unpopular politician-44%/50% approval/disapproval in today's Gallup Poll. Voters are properly surly about the economy and $16 trillion in federal debt, and I don't think the happy talk is fooling anyone.

Paul Ryan, live from Glen Allen

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan appeared at a rally this morning at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, Virginia. WTVR reports that an audience of more than 2,000 turned up for the rally. More impressive than the size of the crowd is the fact that supporters started lining up for the event around 2 a.m.
A reader with Bright Orange Advertising was on the scene. He forwards the photo below of recent alumni of Deep Run High School, where Ryan spoke. They joined the line around 7:00 a.m. with breakfast in hand.

7:30 - The first arrivals, recent alumni of Deep Run High School, the event's venue. They arrived at 7:00 and all said they were there because they wanted a change from the past four years. Note their choice of breakfast cuisine.
8:00 - Three hours to go, and a crowd's already forming.
8:30 - The admission line extends from the gym building entrance, which is at the back of the Deep Run HS campus, all the way to Twin Hickory Road. Adjacent elementary school and public library parking lots were filled with vehicular overflow.
9:44 - More than an hour to go, and the gym's packed.
11:00 - VA State Senator Ryan McDougle and daughter Reagan warm up the crowd.
Lt. Governor Bill Bolling - "Who would have thought that we'd long for the good old days of Jimmy Carter?"
Paul Ryan - "We have a choice to make - continue to decline, or get back our country's greatness."

The Charts That Doom Obama
Posted: 17 Aug 2012 11:54 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
News out this afternoon is that Obama is looking into opening the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a means to relieve pressure at the gas pump. Someone at the White House woke up and realized that the welcome springtime fall in gasoline prices has reversed course and retraced its steps, as shown in the first chart below of gasoline futures prices. I can tell you that out here on the Left Coast, the price of premium gasoline has reached $4.99 a gallon at my nearest station, but then California deserves it. (The recent refinery fire at Richmond, which will reduce capacity for a few weeks, clearly doesn't help.)
But this isn't the only chart that should be giving night sweats to Team Obama right now. We and others have pointed repeatedly to the infamous "Stimulus" chart, to which we add today's news that the unemployment rate rose in 44 of the 50 states last month.
What may be even more politically devastating is the lengthening duration of unemployment, and the evident lack of dynamism even in the private sector areas where jobs are opening up. The next chart below shows what is called the "Beveridge Curve," brought to our attention by the interesting folks behind the very useful SoberLook.com site.
The Beveridge Curve, as SoberLook explains it:
compares job vacancies as a fraction of total labor force with the unemployment rate. It allows one to study, among other things, labor inefficiency and labor mobility. If there are job openings in one part of the country or one industry, but the unemployed are unable to fill those openings due to geographical or skill mobility constraints, the Beveridge curve would show it.
Barclays Capital has recently looked at the Beveridge Curve for the US. The curve "regime" has shifted significantly in the post-recession environment.
Read the whole thing, which concludes that we're seeing not just a cyclical adjustment in the economy, but perhaps a long-term structural shift-what in ordinary language we call "the new normal"-that isn't good.
Add to this the final chart below, which shows the much higher number of long-term unemployed in this economic downturn-much worse than in any cycle in the last 60 years. This has to have electoral consequences, and they can't be good for Obama.

Breaking: Did Hillary Decline to Replace Slow-Joe?
Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:47 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
The Washington Examiner is reporting right now that Obama's consigliere Valerie Jarrett approached Hillary Clinton recently about replacing Joe Biden as Obama's running mate, but that Hillary turned it down:
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was pressed by her husband and a top Obama aide to consider replacing Vice President Joe Biden just a couple of weeks ago, claims the author of the New York Times bestseller "The Amateur."
But Clinton, exhausted from four years of international travel and diplomacy, shrugged off the suggestion to lay the groundwork for her own 2016 bid with her husband at her side, according to author Ed Klein.
"As recently as a couple of weeks ago, the White House was putting out feelers to see if Hillary Clinton was interested in replacing Joe Biden on the ticket," Klein told Secrets. "Bill Clinton, I'm told, was urging his wife to accept the number two spot if it was formally offered. Bill sees the vice presidency as the perfect launching pad for Hillary to run for president in 2016."
Some parts of this story seem a bit thin, such as the bit later in the story that Hillary told Jarrett that "If elected, she didn't want to be tied to Obama's left-leaning politics in her own 2016 bid." I doubt Hillary would be that blunt and direct. But the parts about Bill's plotting and scheming for 2016 seem entirely believable.
It will be interesting to see whether the rest of the Lamestream Media pick up on this story.

Did Obama mastermind the rise of Paul Ryan?
Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:23 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Ezra Klein of the Washington Post has an interesting, if somewhat delusional, take on the rise of Paul Ryan. According to Klein, Ryan's rise was orchestrated by President Obama. In Klein's telling, Ryan was just an obscure committee chairman with a plan Republican insiders had no interest in, until Obama starting gushing about how serious Ryan was. Even then, Ryan's profile wasn't rising quickly enough. So in April 2011, Obama singled out the Ryan budget for abuse. This caused the media to pay more attention to Ryan, and the Republicans to rally around him. The rest is history.
According to Klein, the White House wanted to elevate Ryan so Obama could run against his conservative and draconian (as it would be portrayed) budget. But, says Klein, this has turned into a high-risk, high-reward strategy. If Romney loses, his defeat may strengthen moderate Republicans and provide Obama with a more "cooperative" opposition in his second term. But if Romney wins, he will have done so as a conservative, not a moderate, and can claim a mandate to enact "a deeply conservative agenda."
Klein's view of Ryan's rise is strikes me as partly valid and partly Democratic narcissism. Klein is right that Obama wanted to elevate Ryan. Having failed to make Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, etc. the face of the Republican Party, here, finally, was a plausible (albeit attractive) foil.
But the notion that Republicans took their cue on Ryan from Obama is fanciful, and Klein presents no evidence to support. Nor does he present any analysis in defense of the odd notion that Republicans lack a mind of their own to the point that their preferences are merely a reaction, egged on by the media, to Obama.
Ryan's rise within the Republican Party is, above all, attributable to the fact that he mastered the key issue that now is most important to Republicans - the federal budget. Ryan received help, of course, but that help came from Republicans. And they provided it not in response to Obama, but because Ryan was an ideal vehicle for two key Republican constituencies - the Tea Party and, what I call with affection, the wonk faction.
The wonk faction consists of ideologically conservative Republicans whose primary concern is policy, not pure politics. Some of the most distinguished of these wonks, for example Yuval Levin, had policy-advising roles in the Bush administration.
As Klein notes, Republicans who wanted to take time off from real policy after November 2008 and focus on just saying "no" to the president were ascendant for a while. And in a sense, their approach worked fine in the 2010 election. But the "no" delivered to the Democrats by the voters that year was more than a mere negation. The Tea Party filled the ideological void left by the traditional politicos. In doing so, they, not Obama, paved the way for Paul Ryan.
Once Republicans controlled the House, Ryan and the wonks could argue that just saying "no" wasn't enough. With power, they said, comes responsibility.
In reality, the Republicans possessed little power. A Ryan budget could not become law. Thus, having little power, the Republicans had little responsibility, and arguably no responsibility to push for a potentially unpopular budget that couldn't become law. But that's not how Ryan viewed the matter.
As importantly, that's not how the Tea Party movement and the conservative wonks wanted to view it. The combination of (1) an energized and demanding base and (2) heavyweight idea men who did not wish to defer intense policy discussions turned the tide within the Republican Party.
Mitt Romney did not resist that tide. Could he have? Probably not, if he wanted the nomination. Romney was simply carrying too much moderate baggage, most notably Romneycare, to get on the bad side of what we might call the Ryan faction. Indeed, Romney was more than just a bystander when Newt Gingrich paid the price for suggesting that Ryan was a right-wing social engineer.
Would Romney have liked to resist the Ryan tide? Perhaps, but I'm inclined to think not. At root, I believe Romney is a (1) a genuine fiscal conservative and (2) a problem solver, something of a wonk in his own right. Thus, there is no true disconnect between Romney and the Ryan/wonk/Tea Party side of the Party, except for Romney's natural caution. But something - polling, conservative pundits, including the Wall Street Journal editorial page, or whatever - may have convinced Romney that caution wouldn't carry the day. Alternatively, Romney may believe that Obama is so fundamentally weak that he need not be ultra-cautious.
In any event, Romney, like his Party, has doubled-down on Ryan. Team Obama, whether justifiably or not, apparently is delighted. But Obama cannot take the credit (or the blame) for making it happen.

First Human Case of West Nile Virus
|
in Bucks County Reported Today
|
|
I know this information overlaps some of what I sent to you last week, but given the fact that a Bucks County woman has been diagnosed with West Nile virus, I wanted to remind you of precautions to be taken. This is the first human case of West Nile reported in Bucks County this year. Due to the mild winter and wet spring, this is turning out to be an especially bad year for the virus, which is spread through mosquitoes.
to learn ways in which you can prevent the spread of this disease. You can read the full story from the Intelligencer by
.
Helpful West Nile Virus Tips
|
West Nile virus is spread by the bite of a mosquito that acquired the virus from the blood of an infected bird. The virus can cause encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain. Last year, six people were reported to have contracted West Nile virus in Pennsylvania. The best way to prevent the spread of West Nile virus is to eliminate mosquito breeding areas. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water around homes, weeds, tall grass, shrubbery and discarded tires, so DEP encourages residents to:
*
|
Dispose of cans, buckets, plastic containers, ceramic pots or similar containers that hold water on one's property.
|
*
|
Properly dispose of discarded tires that can collect water. Stagnant water is where most mosquitoes breed.
|
*
|
Drill holes in the bottom of outdoor recycling containers.
|
*
|
Have roof gutters cleaned regularly, particularly if the leaves from surrounding trees have a tendency to block drains.
|
*
|
Turn over plastic wading pools when not in use.
|
*
|
Turn over wheelbarrows and don't let water stagnate in birdbaths.
|
*
|
Aerate ornamental pools or stock them with fish.
|
*
|
Clean and chlorinate swimming pools not in use and remove any water that may collect on pool covers.
|
DEP also suggests homeowners can buy Bti products at lawn and garden, outdoor supply, home improvement and other stores to treat stagnant pools of water. Bti is naturally occurring bacteria that kills mosquito larva but is safe for people, pets, aquatic life and plants.

10 Ways Obamacare Limits Patient Choice
By Kirk Raymond | 8/17/12
A new Heritage Foundation report details 10 ways seniors will have their health care severely limited by Obamacare.
Under Obamacare, all preventive services rated "A" or "B" by the United States Preventive Services Task Force are mandatory and all patients must pay premiums for these services. Any service rated "C" or "D" -- like screening for testicular or ovarian cancer -- could be dropped to keep costs down.
Obamacare dictates expanded preventative care for women, including forcing Americans to pay for contraception or abortifacient drugs. Adding this coverage when it is unnecessary or against religious beliefs raises the cost of health insurance without adding useful coverage.

Spec Ops To Obama: Someone Else Made That bin Laden Kill Happen By John Hayward HumanEvents.com The Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund is a group of former Special Forces and intelligence operators, including Navy SEALs, which has come together to speak out against the politicization of sensitive military operations. While the group states it is non-partisan, it is strongly critical of the current Administration, particularly in two areas: President Obama's use of the Osama bin Laden takedown for political purposes, and the dangerous national security leaks that have been occurring recently. It is widely believed these leaks originated somewhere in the White House, for the purpose of polishing President Obama's national security credentials before the election. Read the Full Story

MSNBC's Touré: Romney Engaged In 'Niggerization' Of Obama By Ben Shapiro Breitbart.com MSNBC's Touré, a supposed racial expert who can spot racism in most inanimate objects, most Yiddish phrases, and all English words, has now declared that Mitt Romney is engaged in the "niggerization" of Barack Obama. What exactly did Romney do to earn this reprehensible slur? He said that Obama, whose campaign has already called Romney a racist, a sexist, a felon, and a murderer, should "take [his] campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago." We know where Barack Obama stands. The Obama Administration's reckless assault on American workers and small business owners leaves little doubt that Barack Obama will always be a tool of Big Labor. And with Big Labor making another Billion Dollar bet to re-elect Obama and install pro-forced unionism majorities in Congress and state legislatures across the country, that's not going to change. As you know, some weak-kneed Republicans remain just as beholden to the union bosses. That's why I'm excited to hear that the Platform Committee of the upcoming Republican National Convention is considering a plank to support a National Right to Work law. If you're a Republican, I hope you'll contact the delegates from your state and urge them to support the National Right to Work law. I'll give you their contact information in a moment, but first let me tell you why this is so important. As you know, the Right to Work movement has won many critical battles in recent years - some defensive, and some offensive.
- Concerned citizens like you rallied to defeat job-killing legislation like the Card Check Forced Unionism Bill and the Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill.
- After a hard-fought, decade-long battle, Indiana became the 23rd Right to Work state this year.
- In the face of teacher union militant "sick-outs" and a legislative walkout, Wisconsin implemented Right to Work for most government workers.
But you and I both know there is so much more to do, and our opponents are more energized than ever. Although only one of the two major political parties is considering this platform plank, Right to Work isn't a partisan issue. After all, nearly 80 percent of Americans support the Right to Work principle. Even the vast majority of rank-and-file union members agree that no worker should be forced to join or pay dues to a union or be fired. As you know, a National Right to Work law would not add ONE WORD to federal law. In an age of massive bills that you have to pass just to find out what's in them, this one-page bill would simply remove those provisions in federal law that empower union bosses to force workers into dues-paying ranks. Compulsory unionism corrupts our politics, destroys American jobs, and denies workers the right to choose for themselves. That's why, if you're a Republican, I hope you'll contact your delegates to the Platform Committee of the Republican National Convention. So please, contact your Platform Committee delegates right away and urge them to support a plank in clear, unequivocal support of a National Right to Work law: Jim Cawley: Ashleyb.jordan@comcast.net Joyce Haas: joycehaas1@yahoo.com And after you've contacted them, please also contact Ben Key, Executive Director of the Platform Committee at bkey@gopconvention2012.com. Urge him to support the full embrace of Right to Work for all Americans. But time is running short - the Committee meets in just a couple of days, and the convention starts in just over one week. There's not a moment to lose. Sincerely, Mark Mix P.S. The Platform Committee of the Republican National Convention is considering a plank to support a National Right to Work law. If you're a Republican, please contact your delegates right away and urge them to support the Right to Work for all Americans. Jim Cawley: Ashleyb.jordan@comcast.net Joyce Haas: joycehaas1@yahoo.com And if you can, please chip in with a contribution of $10 or more to support the National Right to Work Committee's programs.
The National Right to Work Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, single-purpose citizens' organization dedicated to combating compulsory unionism through an aggressive program designed to mobilize public opposition to compulsory unionism and, at the same time, enlist public support for Right to Work legislation. The Committee's mailing address is 8001 Braddock Road, Springfield, Virginia 22160. The Committee can be contacted toll-free at 1-800-325-7892. Its web address is http://nrtwc.org/ Not produced or e-mailed at taxpayer expense. To help the National Right to Work Committee grow, please forward this to a friend.

Friday, August 17, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 81 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Click here to listen now. It Ain't 2008 The Obama/Biden ticket is finding out that times have changed. Four years ago, fawning crowds greeted them everywhere they went. Women swooned. Four years later, the campaign trail is far different terrain. For example, Obama's recent three-day swing through Iowa did not go quite as planned. When Obama went to the Iowa State Fair and wanted to visit the Bud Tent, the Secret Service sweep shut it down for two hours, costing the owner $25,000 in lost revenue. The owner complained that he felt like he had been forced to make a "campaign contribution against my will." The next day, Obama visited a farm in Haverhill, Iowa, to promote wind energy. Obama met with the farmer, Jeff Heil, and his son, Jarret. It was perfect photo op for the president's alternative energy agenda. But after Obama left, the Heils told reporters that they were voting for Mitt Romney. While they said it was an honor to have the president visit their farm, they said, "It is important to not get caught up in the president's glamorous re-election words and remember President Obama's first term record and rhetoric." Then Obama went to a campaign event in Davenport only to find that the caterer was wearing a T-shirt with bold letters reading, "Government Didn't Build My Business, I Did." And when Joe Biden asked to drop in on a local bakery in Virginia, the owner told his advance team, "No!" It is reported that security officials then returned to the store, thanked the owner and bought some cupcakes. When word spread of the baker's "cupcake mutiny," locals flocked to the store, and it sold out in a matter of hours. Finally, it was announced yesterday that former Alabama Congressman Artur Davis will speak at the Republican National Convention this year. Why is that significant? Davis, a black former Democrat, was an early supporter of Obama's 2008 campaign. In fact, he even delivered the seconding speech for Barack Obama's nomination at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Four years later, Davis is endorsing Mitt Romney. Poll Position Looking at the results from the latest Gallup poll, it's clear why the Obama/Biden ticket is having some trouble on the trail these days. On the top issues, Obama's ratings are terrible! For example:
- 58% of adults disapprove of Obama's handling of job creation. Just 37% approve.
- 60% disapprove of his handling of the economy. Just 36% approve.
- And 64% disapprove of his handling of the federal budget deficit. Just 30% approve.
Scott Rasmussen has released the results of new polls from Florida and Wisconsin conducted after Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan to be his running mate. Many consultants had been worried about how Ryan would affect the ticket in the Sunshine State, with its large population of senior citizens. But according to Rasmussen's results, Romney remains the favorite. Last month, it was a virtual tie with Romney leading Obama 46% to 45%. After the Ryan announcement, Romney leads Obama 45% to 43%. And among Florida's seniors, Romney's position has actually improved seven points since Rasmussen's July poll. In addition, it looks like Wisconsin could be in play this November. In July, Rasmussen found Obama leading Romney 49% to 46%. But after Romney's selection of Paul Ryan, Romney is narrowly leading 48% to 47%. Wisconsin hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan's 1984 landslide, so I'd like to see those results repeated a few more times. But if Wisconsin truly is in play this year, it could be an indication that Obama is losing support among traditional Democrat voters, and probably not just in Wisconsin either! The Battle For Marriage The Associated Press reported last weekend that the Democrat Party will follow Obama's lead by formally embracing same-sex "marriage" in its official party platform. The platform resolution is set to be approved when the Democrat National Convention meets next month in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2008 the Republican Party produced a very strong platform when it came to values issues and especially on marriage. Here are some excerpts of the 2008 platform statement on marriage:
"Because our children's future is best preserved within the traditional understanding of marriage, we call for a constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage as a union of a man and a woman, so that judges cannot make other arrangements equivalent to it. ... "Republicans recognize the importance of having in the home a father and a mother who are married. The two-parent family still provides the best environment of stability, discipline, responsibility, and character. ... "Republicans have been at the forefront of protecting traditional marriage laws, both in the states and in Congress. A Republican Congress enacted the Defense of Marriage Act, affirming the right of states not to recognize same-sex 'marriages' licensed in other states."
Now if that was the platform that John McCain ran on, the platform this year should just as strong! And if Democrats are going to aggressively undermine traditional marriage, it would be a tremendous error for Republicans to be silent on such a fundamental issue. There are also disturbing reports that groups involved in the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender movement are attempting to push language promoting homosexual adoption in the GOP platform. We believe, as the platform currently states, that children deserve mothers and fathers. The voters of 31 states have overwhelmingly supported constitutional amendments to preserve normal marriage. The GOP should embrace these voters and unapologetically defend their values! Join Me In D.C.! I am very pleased to announce that Vice Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan will be speaking at next month's Values Voter Summit, being held in Washington, D.C., September 14th - 16th. The Values Voter Summit is sponsored by the Family Research Council, AFA Action, Heritage Foundation, Liberty University, Liberty Council and my non-profit organization, American Values. In addition to Rep. Ryan, you will hear from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Dr. Bill Bennett, Lt. Gen. William Boykin, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Texas Senate candidate Ted Cruz, author Dinesh D'Souza, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and many more outstanding conservative leaders! There will be educational sessions on a broad range of topics including: the economy, radical Islam, Obamacare, the state of the pro-life movement and the threat to religious liberty. American Values will host a special luncheon on Saturday, September 15th. Later that evening, there will be a gala dinner honoring Morton Blackwell, founder and president of the Leadership Institute. Republicans are so stupid, they think only "their own kind" will hear the message of reprehensible evil bubbling beneath the surface of every little thing they say-hence the term "dog whistle." But they're wrong, which is scarcely surprising since they're wrong about everything. In this brief tutorial, we will show you how Republicans turn ordinary words into synonyms for hate and mass destruction, thus enabling you to hear or read anything they say or write and immediately detect the racism and mean-spirited intolerance that poisons every syllable they spew. On Today's Program
Hanuman - the undefeated demon fighting monkey god
Glenn couldn't help but spend a few more minutes marveling over Hanuman, the undefeated demon fighting monkey god, which Obama's step dad Lolo apparently thought very highly of during his childhood. How accepting is America? We elected a guy who didn't grow up with 4th of July picnics and Memorial Day parades, just memories of a giant monkey god - WATCH.
SE Cupp thrashes MSNBC host's 'racist code' conspiracy theory
MSNBC is on quite a roll this week - first, one of the hosts called Mitt Romney a 'criminal' who has likely committed a felony. Then another host said Mitt Romney's use of the word 'angry' to describe Barack Obama was really just "racist code" to fire up the racist republican base. SE Cupp steps in and thoroughly dismantled the allegation.
Who bailed out Obama's brother? HINT: Not Barack
President Obama often cites the Bible as reason for advocating a big government nanny state. He'll either refer to verses in Matthew and sometimes uses phrases such as "being our brother's keeper." In the ironies of ironies, Barack Obama's own brother, George, who lives in extreme poverty, recently turned to conservative author, Dinesh D'Souza for help. Why D'Souza? According to George, "he didn't have anyone else to turn to." - wow. Check out Glenn's reaction and the full story via TheBlaze.
Barton responds to attacks
Glenn welcomed David Barton on GBTV last night to answer his critics charges. Barton is used to getting smeared by left wing blogs - but this time it's coming from the same side. Why are they doing it and how does Barton defend the charges? Glenn and David go over specific examples on GBTV last night - WATCH.

Glenn interviews FRC shooting witness General Jerry Boykin
The media has gone AWOL on the shooting by an apparent deranged leftist at the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. this week. Friend of the show (ret) Lt. General Boykin was at the building when the incident occurred and provides an incredible account of what happened. A great story of heroics - so why is the media ignoring it? Check out the interview HERE.
Remarkable people, extraordinary small businesses, excellent products. Let the small businesses at The Marketplace inspire you.
Obama's hard hitting interview on... Entertainment Tonight?
Barack Obama has the incredible advantage of a media that loves him so much they have gone out of their way to glorify and even deify him. So you know things must really be going poorly when the only media outlets he feels safe appearing on are People Magazine and Entertainment Tonight, as he did this week. But even Nancy O'Dell managed to make Obama sound like a fool.
