UPDATE: DHS Now Covering Up Ammo Purchases?

First it was the Department of Homeland Security, then it was the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and now the Social Security Administration is set to purchase 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets that will be delivered to 41 locations across the country.

A solicitation posted by the SSA on the FedBizOpps website asks for contractors to supply 174,000 rounds of ".357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition."

An online ammunition retailer describes the bullets as suitable "for peak performance rivaling and sometimes surpassing handloads in many guns," noting that the ammo is "a great personal defense bullet."

The synopsis to the solicitation adds that the ammunition is to be shipped to 41 locations within 60 days of purchase. A separate spreadsheet lists those locations, which include the Social Security headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland as well as major cities across the country including Los Angeles, Detroit, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Seattle.

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.

The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.

Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.

Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.

The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.

The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization

Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.

Defense of Environment and Property Act
 

You and I are on the verge of losing a vital battle to stop the EPA's reign of terror on property owners.

The only way to win is to strongly demand that more members of the U.S. Senate co-sponsor and support Senator Rand Paul's new bill.

If we fail, the bill will die.

Let me explain.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Fish and Wildlife Service have become OUTLAW agencies of our federal government.

And it's time we brought them under control.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has introduced a bill to do just that. It's called the Defense of Environment and Property Act of 2012 (S. 2122).

Senator Paul's Bill is vital for the protection of private property and personal freedom. It is a new weapon to stop enforcement of Agenda 21 policies.

It is urgent that you sign the enclosed petition to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urging support for S.2122 so that we can finally put a stop to the outrages of these outlaw agencies.

Why do I call these federal agencies Outlaws?

Because they are making their own rules under the pretext of enforcing federal law, particularly the Clean Water Act. As a result, they are ruining the lives of innocent, law abiding Americans and locking away millions of acres of private land - using the excuse of protecting the environment.

• They pretend that occasional mud puddles are wet lands that have to be protected.
• They arrest property owners for simply improving their land, claiming they have violated the Clean Water Act. Many have served prison time for nothing more than putting some fill dirt in a ditch.
• They block property owners from building on their land.
• And they issue crushing fines against property owners, even when there is no proven violation.
• They sneak onto private land looking for violations. And sometimes they even manufacture those violations and then arrest the owners.
• And when they declare an area of the property to be a wetland, true or not, the property owner can no longer use the land, nor sell it.

This is government out of control.

This is a tyranny orchestrated to enforce the policies of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development.

But you and I can stop it.

We need to build support for Senator Paul's Bill, "Defense of Environment and Property Act, S.2122."

His bill defines exactly what a "navigable water way" is. It is not a mud puddle or a temporary runoff of rain water. How sad it is that a Senate Bill has to clarify these definitions for government agencies entrusted to comply with the law.

But that's what must be done.

Senator Paul's bill also makes it mandatory that Federal agents get written permission from the property owner to enter the land. No more sneaking!

And finally, Senator Paul's bill tells the federal government that, if it takes private land, then it has to pay double the value of the land to the landowner.

Why? Because once the government declares that land is a wetland - the property value plummets. Doubling the price will help enforce the "just compensation" provisions of the 5^th Amendment to the Constitution.

S.2122 will help stop enforcement of the UN's Agenda 21 that the EPA and these other federal agencies are working to enforce.

So, please, right now, sign your enclosed "Support S.2122" petition to your U.S. Senator

I need thousands of these signed petitions to build support for the bill.

Remember, we have to force it past Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - one of the worst violators of American property rights and individual liberties. And he decides what bills are brought to the Senate floor for a vote.

Only by flooding Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office with signed petitions can we bi-pass Harry Reid and force a vote for S.2122. The good news is that Senator Paul is Senator McConnell's fellow senator from Kentucky. He will help us get a vote if he sees enough support for the bill from Americans nationwide.

But it won't happen without our efforts!  So please sign your petition today!

It Begins... Federal Government Sues to Gain Control of Southern State's Water Supply

The federal government has asserted claims for damages to groundwater in a natural resource damage case in New Mexico involving Chevron/Molycorp. The claim seeks for those damages to be awarded in the form of future water rights management."   All over the country water rights are being stolen.  In Tennessee it is for "mitigation" purposes, in California it is for the "smelt" (a tiny fish).  You name a state and if the powers-that-be haven't begun the theft of water rights, they have the blueprint on their desks.  Without water we cannot live; they know that but do most Americans?  If so, where are their voices?

Dear Friends,

Today is August 15, a Catholic Holy Day, Feast of the Assumption of Mary, Mother of Jesus. It also happens to be my mother's birthday (a sign from God, my father thought, that he should marry my mother).  

You may think--oh, that's nice, but why are you telling me this.

Well, the reason I'm telling you this is because in all my life, I never told anyone when it was my mother's birthday. Never. I never celebrated her birthday with a hug, a kiss, or even a cake.

My mother passed away after a struggle with lupus 50 years ago, in 1962. Her pregnancy with me brought on the symptoms of the disease and I have often felt deeply pained knowing this truth.

I obviously have no real memories or recollections of her--only some photos and brief film clips.

I have often asked God why this happened and the only response I kept hearing was that there was a reason. And after 50 years, I think I may have finally stumbled across this reason.

Right now, on this very day, I have a second mother who is very, very sick--and I am desperately trying not to lose her, too.  

I know and love this mother, very much, and have publicly celebrated her birthday for 50 years--more recently with Tea Parties on the 4th of July. I would like to celebrate her birthday another 50 years, but I'm afraid my fellow countrymen--even Tea Partiers--don't realize how dire her sickness really is.

Of course, you guessed it. My second mother is your second mother, too--our beloved America.

Please understand, we have less than 100 days to save her. We are asking everyone of you to be engaged. We need your help, immediately. We need you to volunteer. We need you to attend fund raisers. We need you to make sacrifices--cut short your vacations, give up some idle pleasures. We need you to take off on election day and form a volunteer election day army for our Voter Integrity Project. We know some of you are already doing these things.

This Saturday, we are having a reception to honor three exceptional men--Tom Smith, a self-made coal mining executive and father of several natural and adopted children who, like my mother, was born in Western PA; US Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, a strong pro-life Catholic, devoted husband and family man; and last, but not least, Joe Rooney, a 23-year Navy pilot veteran who is married to a Navy veteran--has a daughter currently serving in the Navy and a son who recently entered the Air Force Academy. God only knows in what way his third child will serve our country.

We hope you'll to be present to honor them. If you'd like to attend, but can't afford it, register anyway. Give what you can.

Let's celebrate these exceptional men. Let's celebrate our second mother--America.

Victory Center" on Facebook

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

Shooting at the Family Research Council

The Family Research Council is one of my favorite organizations. I consider Tony Perkins a friend and he and his staff are in my prayers today, as they should be yours. A gunman entered the building this morning, took issue with the work FRC does (no motive is known other than the gunman uttering a complaint about what FRC does), and began to shoot. A security guard was shot in the arm, but managed to get the shooter down.

It is not a political statement, but a fact that for years the left inside and outside the media has ridiculed the family values the Family Research Council defends. It is not a political statement, but a fact that had this been at an abortion clinic or the Human Rights Campaign's headquarters instead of the Family Research Council's headquarters, we'd be in for a week of handwringing in the media about homophobia and right wing nuts. But because the Family Research Council promotes the values shared by a majority of Americans, but only a minority of the left in and outside the media, this story will move on off the radar.

Instead, the Human Rights Campaign, which aggressively supports gay rights, will go on calling the Family Research Council a hate group, which it did the day before the shooting, the media will give the shooting a passing reference, and it will all be forgotten until Brian Ross and ABC News can figure out a way to pin it on the tea party. Notes one nut on twitter, "a shooting at #FRC HQ was a long time coming. Though I'm surprised the #AFA wasn't 1st. Hate begets hate. #NOH8 #Bigotry"

The Liberal Guardian Stands Up for Free Speech

Yesterday morning the Guardian, a liberal newspaper out of London, announced it was hiring one of RedState's co-founders, Josh Trevino, as a conservative columnist.

Since the announcement was made, the Guardian has come under withering assault for daring to hire Josh.

I know a thing about that. To this day there are still folks trying to drive me off television. Luckily, CNN was kind enough to give me a chance.

I hope the Guardian will do the same with Josh Trevino. The attacks are not about what Josh has said or tweeted, but about Josh being at a liberal organization to begin with. 

The attacks are about silencing an alternative opinion, which the Guardian, to its credit, has been willing to hear out and give voice to.   

GOP Consultants Palin on Paul Ryan

There have been a number of stories out over the past few days from Republican political consultants on background claiming the GOP is now screwed because Paul Ryan is the Vice Presidential nominee.

There is an underlying kernel of truth in their concerns. For seventy-two hours now, the GOP has talked about Medicare, not the failing economy. Several of the consultants I have talked to express a deep concern, based on past performance, that the Romney campaign does not have what it takes to fight on this front and make it about the economy. Their concerns are based on legitimate issues.

The reality, however, is that we win on this playing field if the Romney team does engage. Fixing entitlements is directly correlated to fixing the economy and Paul Ryan is an articulate spokesman on that correlation.

This Threat Seems Fictional, but It's a Real Danger

What happens to our society if we lose all electricity? A new TV show premiering next month, Revolution, will explore that question. It will be set in a world "where every single piece of technology-computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights-has mysteriously blacked out forever."

Eric Kripke, one of the show's executive producers, said, "We did our homework and came up with something that's actually plausible." He's right.

Though the cause of Revolution's blackout will be revealed in the course of the show, it certainly points to an electromagnetic pulse (EMP)-a threat that is, in fact, plausible and for which the United States is unprepared.

On August 15, 2003, a major blackout occurred throughout the northeastern U.S. and Canada, offering more than 55 million people a glimpse of what life could be like after a large-scale EMP. In that case, most services were restored within a day, but that would not be the case after an EMP. Damage to lives and property would be immense, and the ensuing devastation would continue for years, if not decades. Unfortunately, many in the media have dismissed the idea.

The good news is that the U.S. can do a lot to protect itself from the effects of a deliberate EMP attack by an enemy or an EMP caused by space weather, such as a large solar flare. But local, state, and federal governments have a lot of work to do. The Heritage Foundation has urged Congress to establish August 15 as National EMP Awareness Day, to educate the public and lawmakers on the threat and the need for action.

Where Would an EMP Come From?

An EMP affecting the U.S. could come from two sources: the detonation of a nuclear weapon at a high altitude, or a naturally occurring space weather event, such as a large solar flare.

A rogue state would not need a long-range ballistic missile to deliver a nuclear warhead. Even short-range ballistic missiles carrying an EMP device or a nuclear warhead launched from a ship off the U.S. coast could impact millions. Today, more than 30 countries, including Iran and North Korea, possess ballistic missile capabilities.

What Would Happen?

Heritage's Michaela Bendikova and Jessica Zuckerman have written about the impact of an EMP:

A successful EMP attack - a high-intensity burst of electromagnetic energy caused by a rapid acceleration of charged particles - would fundamentally change the world. Airplanes would fall from the sky; most cars would be inoperable; electrical devices would fail. Water, sewer, and electrical networks would fail simultaneously. Systems of banking, energy, transportation, food production and delivery, water, emergency services, and even cyberspace would collapse.

It would take years - possibly decades - to restore the U.S. electricity supply. Recovery abilities would be critically limited, and the country would be challenged to support current population levels. Millions would likely die.

What Can We Do to Prevent It?

Interest in the EMP threat dropped after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and today, the Department of Homeland Security does not have a national recovery plan for the event of an EMP attack. There are a number of things the U.S. military and Homeland Security could do to protect our critical infrastructure from devastation. Bendikova and Zuckerman write that America should:

• Improve and restructure U.S. missile defense programs, including our ability to intercept ballistic missiles while in flight.

• Demand that the Administration develop a National Recovery Plan. The first focus should be improving the infrastructure on which all other sectors are dependent, such as electrical power and telecommunications.

• Determine which countries could attack. The U.S. should produce a national intelligence estimate on which countries are pursuing EMP weapons or are already capable of launching an EMP attack.

• Prepare and protect the nation's infrastructure. Cyber infrastructure, for example, is dependent on the power grid-which makes it a unique challenge in an EMP scenario.

• Require more research. In addition to raising national awareness, more research is needed on the risk associated with an EMP attack to ensure that the nation understands the full scope of the threat and how to close critical vulnerability gaps.

 Want to fight back against the Obama amnesty that started today? Help the federal immigration agents with their protest petition! 

What a great discovery tonight on the website of the union that represents ICE agents! (ICE is the Immigration and Customs Enforcement section of the Department of Homeland Security.)

The petition is addressed to ICE Director John Morton.

He is the author of the infamous Morton Memo of a year ago that provided the framework for the Department of Homeland Security's actions beginning today in accepting applications for the mini-DREAM amnesty.

The Morton Memo broadened the concept of pros ecutorial discretion to the point that huge classes of illegal aliens could be exempted by the Administration from having to obey immigration laws.

But ICE agents are finding that the Administration's new rules actually don't give them much discretion at all.

The Administration's supposed prosecutorial discretion is in fact the absolute loss of discretion by ICE agents to do anything except ignore the law.

The ICE union website states:

Reports are now emerging of ICE agents using their prosecutorial discretion, but then being punished if they determine an illegal alien should be put in deportation proceedings.

A veteran ICE agent recen tly arrested an illegal alien who had 10 traffic violations. The ICE agent determined, in his discretion, the alien did not fit within the outline of the Morton memo or the Executive DREAM Order and initiated deportation proceedings.

The agent's supervisors overruled him and ordered him to release the illegal alien.

As a result of attempting to do his job, the agent in question is now facing a three-day suspension. If suspended now, this military veteran and eighteen year federal law enforcement officer will be fired and lose all retirement benefits earned if he attempts to exercise prosecutorial discretion again in the future.

Please help your friends and neighbors understand that the ability of ICE agents to enforce our immigration laws is the ONLY thing that stands between Americans enjoying their current wages and standard of living or seeing wages deteriorate toward low global averages.

Without those who enforce immigration laws, our nation would be swamped with additional millions of citizens of other countries competing for U.S. jobs and driving all wages toward minimum wage.

Not surprisingly, a union would recognize the threat to all American workers if ICE agents don't have the discretion to actually enforce immigration laws.

I was thrilled to see that the union for ICE agents has taken the lead today in pushing back.

Won't you please do everything you can to spread the word about this petition through email, on websites and through Talk Radio?

Sign this petition to John Morton telling him that he should be encouraging ICE agents to enforce the laws duly enacted by Congress. Law enforcement officers should NEVER be punished for upholding the law.

It looks like the petition may have just gone up because there are only a few signers (other than the top officers of the union, whose names you will see on the petition page). Make sure that Janet Napolitano and the rest of the pro-amnesty leaders at DHS see thousands of signers when the union website is sure to be brought to their attention Thursday morning.

A law enforcement official has identified the suspect arrested in Wednesday's shooting as Floyd Corkins II of Herndon, Va.Investigators were interviewing his neighbors.

Another official says the shooter made a negative reference about the work of the Family Research Council before opening fire. The officials spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

David Mariner is executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. He says Corkins had been volunteering at the center for about the past 6 months.

When the Sihk temple became the last scene of a high profile shooting, I was in an airport watching the news. It was CNN.

Over and over again they referred to the shooter as a member of a "far right" hate band.

I'm sure they're on the air, right now, calling this shooter a member of a liberal community...right?

We at Campaign for Working Families are heartbroken at the news of a shooting today at the Family Research Council. FRC is an outstanding organization that I helped found and ran for 10 years. We know it is a faith-based organization, and we join many friends across the country in prayer for the victim and his family, as well as for FRC's dedicated staff, many of whom are close friends.

Sadly, there are press reports that the alleged gunman opened fire after expressing his opposition to FRC's pro-family, pro-life beliefs. These are views that are widely shared by good and decent Americans across the country. Yet in recent years we have seen a disturbing level of intolerance and hate aimed at those who share traditional values, whether it is vandalism against churches or businesses whose owners embrace traditional values, or today's shooting at the Family Research Council.

I hope and pray these initial reports are incorrect. The values of the Family Research Council -- pro-life and pro-family -- are shared by millions of Americans of many backgrounds and should not make anyone a target of violence.

Men and women of faith must not be intimidated into silence. I am proud to stand with Tony Perkins and the FRC staff. We will proudly continue to fight the good fight for family, faith and freedom!

Administration Begins Accepting Amnesty Applications Today;

TELL CONGRESS TO REASSERT ITS AUTHORITY OVER IMMIGRATION LAW!

The Obama Administration begins accepting applications TODAY to grant backdoor amnesty to illegal aliens who meet criteria similar to that of the failed DREAM Act. The application process, the details of which were announced only yesterday, is part of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano's June 15 policy memo that unilaterally grants deferred action and work authorization to illegal aliens up to the age of 30.

This application process, however, is nothing more than an open invitation for fraud. First, the application contains no evidentiary standards for the documents illegal aliens must show to prove they meet the Administration's already low criteria. In fact, the application explicitly states that illegal aliens do not need to provide the government with original documentation, and there is no end to the types of documentation the Administration will accept as proof of eligibility. Rather, the application leaves it up to illegal aliens to submit whatever documentation they "believe is relevant" in order to gain status and take jobs away from Americans and lawful U.S. residents!

In addition to finally announcing the application details, the Administration also announced yesterday that it was further weakening its already minimal criteria. Now, illegal aliens merely need to be enrolled in an educational, literacy, or career training center (including vocational schools), that prepares them to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent to qualify for the amnesty.

Congress must stop President Obama's backdoor amnesty! This unprecedented move circumvents not only federal immigration law, but the will of Congress, who has repeatedly rejected the DREAM Act for over a decade. Call your Members and Congressional Leadership TODAY and tell them:

• Halt the Obama amnesty! Congress has the power to stop the Administration's circumvention of U.S. immigration law - it must exercise it.
• Granting amnesty is an affront to all law-abiding Americans and legal immigrants.
• Especially at times of high unemployment, Americans need immigration laws enforced, not another amnesty.
