During the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama famously said that the U.S. should negotiate with Iran without any preconditions. Obama's notion of diplomacy with the mullahs was widely ridiculed at the time, including by his then rival for the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton. More than three years into the Obama administration, multiple attempts at negotiations with the Iranians over their nuclear program have not led to any progress.
Attempts at negotiations with the Taliban have not gone any better. But Obama administration officials are so desperate to move the talks forward (as part of a planned drawdown in Afghanistan) that they are not only willing to negotiate without any preconditions, they are also willing to make concessions in advance of the hoped-for talks.
As Reuters reports, the Obama administration is willing to transfer the five most dangerous Taliban commanders in U.S. custody to Qatar before the Taliban does anything. The Taliban Five are held at Guantanamo and would be exchanged for Bowe Bergdahl, an American soldier who "is believed to be being held by Taliban militants in northwestern Pakistan."

The Obama administration told law enforcement authorities to go easy on Occupy Wall Street protesters, even though they were violating local laws, according to documents obtained by watchdog group Judicial Watch.
Emails from the General Services Administration show that the federal agency, acting on orders from the White House, told federal law enforcement authorities in Portland, Ore., not to enforce curfews on protesters camped out on federal property. JudicialWatch.org obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Act request lodged last year.
In one exchange from Nov. 6, 2011, officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the GSA discuss a group of 11 protesters camped out at the federally-owned Terry Schrunk Plaza.

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21

 Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.
I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development
The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.
A. Ramsar Convention (1971)
According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). The 2012 election will be one of the hardest-fought in U.S. history. It is also likely to be one of the closest, a fact that brings concerns about voter fraud and bureaucratic incompetence in the conduct of elections front and center. If we don't take notice, we could see another debacle like the Bush-Gore Florida recount of 2000 in which courts and lawyers intervened in what should have involved only voters.
Who's Counting? will focus attention on many problems of our election system, ranging from voter fraud to a slipshod system of vote counting that noted political scientist Walter Dean Burnham calls "the most careless of the developed world."
In an effort to clean up our election laws, reduce fraud and increase public confidence in the integrity of the voting system, many states ranging from Georgia to Wisconsin have passed laws requiring a photo ID be shown at the polls and curbing the rampant use of absentee ballots, a tool of choice by fraudsters.
The response from Obama allies has been to belittle the need for such laws and attack them as akin to the second coming of a racist tide in American life. In the summer of 2011, both Bill Clinton and DNC chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz preposterously claimed that such laws suppressed minority voters and represented a return to the era of Jim Crow.

Runaway Slave Movie
We had a great time together at the premiere of The Runaway Slave. Thanks to all that came out to the corner rally, movie, and the after party. It was great to be with so many patriots. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off. Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them. Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq

Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
 Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

The following is adapted from a lecture delivered on February 27, 2012, aboard the Crystal Symphony during a Hillsdale College cruise from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires.
AMERICA is still a young country. Only 405 years separate us from our ultimate origins at Jamestown, Virginia, while France and Britain are 1,000 years old, China 3,000, and Egypt 5,000. But what a 400 years it has been in the economic history of humankind!
When the Susan Constant, Discovery, and Godspeed dropped anchor in the James River in the spring of 1607, most human beings made their livings in agriculture and with the power of their own muscles. Life expectancy at birth was perhaps 30 years. Epidemics routinely swept through cities, carrying off old and young alike by the thousands. History tends to dwell on a small percent of the population at the top of the heap, but the vast mass of humanity lived lives that were, in the words of Thomas Hobbes, "nasty, brutish, and short."
Today we live in a world far beyond the imagination of those who were alive in 1607. The poorest family in America today enjoys a standard of living that would have been considered opulent 400 years ago. And for most of this time it was the United States that was leading the world into the future, politically and economically.

Pennsylvania Needs Action Today

Dear Friends,
Last month's Supreme Court decision on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was disappointing, but not surprising. After all, the Supreme Court is a branch of the Federal Government. It can surely not be a surprise that nine employees of the Federal Government found in favor of the Federal Government in its dispute with more than half of the American States.
We have good news, though. The Supreme Court does not get the last word on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The people of Pennsylvania delegated some limited, enumerated powers to the Federal Government when we ratified the Constitution. Regardless of what the Supreme Court may think, the powers to control health care and health insurance were not among those delegated powers. The Tenth Amendment to the US Constitution says,
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Powers not delegated are reserved. The States that created the federal government and agreed to its existence by this compact are fully empowered to decide for themselves NOT to comply with any act outside the scope of federal authority as enumerated in the Constitution. Pennsylvania does not need permission from the Supreme Court or anyone else in order to follow the Constitution!
As the Pennsylvania legislature wrote in the 1811 Pennsylvania Resolutions Against the Bank,
"The people of the United States by the adoption of the federal constitution established a general government for special purposes, reserving to themselves respectively, the rights and authorities not delegated in that instrument. To the compact thereby created, each state acceded in its character as a state, and is a party. The act of union thus entered into being to all intents and purposes a treaty between sovereign states, the general government by this treaty was not constituted the exclusive or final judge of the powers it was to exercise, for if it were so to judge then its judgement and not the constitution would be the measure of its authority.
Should the general government in any of its departments violate the provisions of the constitution, it rests with the states, and with the people, to apply suitable remedies...." (emphasis added)
In the 1820s and again in the 1840s, Pennsylvania passed personal freedom laws prohibiting the enforcement of Federal fugitive slave laws inside our borders. We need our legislators today to protect our rights in the same way that their 19th century predecessors did.

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. 1. The Vice Presidential Stakes
Ten of the last twenty presidents, dating back to 1900, have been forced from office or come close: one was forced to resign (Nixon), one was impeached (Clinton), two were assassinated (Kennedy and McKinley), one was shot (Reagan), one was shot at twice in three weeks (Ford), two died in office of natural causes (FDR and Harding), one was incapacitated by a stroke (Wilson), and one nearly died of a massive heart attack (Eisenhower). If you go back to the 19th century, the record unsurprisingly gets worse. As for vice presidents since 1900, not only have five taken office (Ford, LBJ, Truman, Coolidge and Teddy Roosevelt), but four others have been nominated for the presidency while sitting (George H.W. Bush won, Richard Nixon lost and then won later, and Hubert Humphery and Al Gore lost - with Gore and Nixon losing two of the closest races in history and Humphery losing a tight three-way race), and one other (Walter Mondale) was nominated four years later. Losing vice presidential nominees have mostly not gone on to better things, but a few have - FDR came back to win the presidency 12 years later, Earl Warren became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court five years later, Bob Dole was nominated for the presidency 20 years later, and Lloyd Bentsen moved laterally to become Treasury Secterary five years later. Others, like Sarah Palin and Joe Lieberman, saw their national profiles greatly raised by the experience; Lieberman, Edmund Muskie and John Edwards all ran presidential campaigns four years later, with varying degrees of impact on the race.
All of which is a way of saying that Mitt Romney's choice of a running mate could have very important repercussions whether or not that choice makes much impact on the outcome of the 2012 election. Romney seems to be a man of unusual health, vigor and personal ethics, and so less likely than most to leave the Oval Office before his term is out if he's elected, but he's also 65 years old; things happen. Given that the outcome of the election remains uncertain, we should therefore be rightly concerned with his choice. Let's take a look at a couple of the considerations on the table, and why I ultimately think Paul Ryan is the best choice under the circumstances.

2. U.N.'s Carbon Credits Create Perverse Incentives
It seems harmless enough when an airline offers their customers "green indulgences" in the form of carbon credits when buying a ticket. The credits are intended to resolve the guilt the customer is supposed to feel for his wanton use of fossil fuels. In practice, the credits have become a perverse incentive for practices that are exactly opposite what the U.N. intended when it created the system.
It works like this: carbon credits can be traded for cash. You earn one credit for destroying or sequestering a ton of carbon dioxide (CO2). Some other gases have stronger greenhouse effect than CO2, and so are worth more in carbon credits. A ton of methane counts for 21 tons of CO2, nitrous oxide 310. It's a huge market.

3. Things That Threaten Our Children
The Left does what it always does and assumes that all problems under the sun are caused by the Iniquitous GOP and their fleet of black helicopters flying missions from a Death Star equipped with E-Coli Rays. It's always a case where the Konservatives just won't let government spend money because they want the rich to keep it all buried in Mason jars in Sheldon Anderson's backyard. The fact that government spending has been almost constantly skyrocketing since 1960 (over the same period of time that young Americans have suffered a tragic reversal of fortunes) is flushed down some Orwellian memory hole.

Conservative history: Defend the Vietnam War.

Point out to any handy liberal that the United States won the Vietnam War. America was never defeated on the battlefield, after all, and the United States compelled North Vietnam to sign a peace treaty. When American troops left South Vietnam, it was still a sovereign, independent, non-Communist country, and American troops had also given the rest of East Asia a 2 1/2-year breathing space from Communist expansion. It was only after the liberal Democrat Congress refused to hold North Vietnam accountable for violating the peace accords and walked away from America's commitment to South Vietnam that victory became defeat. The lesson: liberals can't be trusted-by us or by our allies.

Joe Lieberman is a curious little man. He professes a love for America and Israel, yet his basic liberalism seems to have blinded him to the danger of Islamic terrorism. Tuesday the Democrat Connecticut Senator displayed his naivety when he told an interviewer, "I'd like to see us take a side. I don't think it's enough ... for us to say Assad should go, Assad's a dictator ... We have a moral responsibility and a strategic opportunity to do more than what we're doing there [ in Syria]."
Okay this is standard liberal drivel, but what he says next is just plain stupid and dangerous. "So what would I do?" Lieberman answered his own question with, "I'd embrace the cause of the opposition to Assad; I'd begin to work with them closely. I'd give them weapons - that's the key."

The City Council of Sacramento, California, is scheduled to vote on adopting Ashkelon, Israel as a Sister City on August 14th.
Two years ago, the Sacramento City Council voted unanimously to adopt its ninth Sister City: Bethlehem, Palestine. At the time the resolution was passed the Council also unanimously agreed to adopt a Sister City in Israel sometime in the future. Area leaders have nominated Ashkelon, just north of the Gaza strip, for this honor.
Ashkelon was a wise choice. As a city under constant missile attack from Islamic terrorists in Gaza, Ashkelon symbolizes the challenges currently facing the Jewish state and the pressing need for America to stand with our embattled ally. As the home of the largest regional hospital -- which helps both Israelis injured by Gaza's terrorists and Palestinians from Gaza -- this city symbolizes the heart of the Israeli people who are constantly searching for peace and coexistence
Members of the Sacramento City Council are now being inundated with e-mails from across the country asking them to vote against recognizing Ashkelon as a Sister City.
This effort appears to be a disturbing new front in the effort to delegitimize Israel in America.
If Israel's enemies succeed in Sacramento, they will no doubt be emboldened to oppose other such resolutions across the country.
We need to stop this new anti-Israel campaign in its tracks.
We need to send a strong message right now that we stand with Israel and that we believe that Sacramento and every other city in America should be proud to do so!

Two weeks ago, over 20,000 of you sent email letters to the U.S. House and Senate in support of the five Members of Congress who had the courage to raise questions about Muslim Brotherhood influence in our government.
Thank you.
A lot of heat was directed at these Members of Congress, and particularly Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, because of one letter's reference to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Since then, a great deal of information has emerged about Abedin and her family.

Steadily burgeoning [2] evidence [3] indicates that one of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's closest aides, Huma Abedin, despite Ms. Clinton's protestation [4], was inadequately vetted for either family, or personal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Diligent, open [5] source [2] investigation [3] has already uncovered and documented numerous alarming connections. One can reasonably infer that a serious, formal Congressional investigation of the overall extent of Muslim Brotherhood influence operations-as requested [6] by Representatives Bachmann, Gohmert, Franks, Westmoreland, and Rooney-might yield even more disturbing findings.
Pending these sorely needed Congressional inquiries-replete with their probing investigative tools-much can still be gleaned from the public record. For example, over the past 33 years, Huma Abedin's family has been responsible for the editorial production of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs [7] (IMMA)'s academic journal [8], known as Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs. Journal, from 1979-1995, and Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs [JMMA], from 1996. till now, starting with family patriarch Syed Z. Abedin's, and Huma's mother, Saleha Abedin [2]'s, founding [9] involvement [10] since 1979, and subsequently joined by Huma's brother Hassan Abedin (1996 [11] to present [12]), Huma herself (1996 [11] to 2008 [13]), and Huma's sister, Heba (married name Khalid, or Khaled [14]; 2002 [15] to present [12]).
Syed Abedin, in the inaugural edition of the IMMA journal, gives an effusive tribute [16] to one of his IMMA co-founders, Dr. Abdullah Omar Nasseef, Chairman [17] of the IMMA. During his concurrent tenure as Secretary-General of the Muslim World League-a combined [18] Saudi Wahhabi, Muslim Brotherhood-dominated organization-in July, 1988, Naseef also created the Rabita Trust [19], and became its chairman. On October 12, 2001, then President George W. Bush's Executive Order named Rabita Trust [20] as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity, and the US Treasury Department froze its assets, while Naseef was still serving as the Trust's chairman. Nasseef remained on the IMMA journal Editorial Board through 2003 [21], overlapping Huma Abedin's tenure for 7-years (i.e., 1996-2003).
The current (April/May 2012) issue of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs journal (JMMA) features two essays, introduced with lavish praise by Editor Saleha Abedin [22], which champion, unabashedly:
- The global hegemonic aspirations of major 20th century Muslim Brotherhood jihadist ideologues, such as the eminent Muslim Brotherhood theoretician, Sayyid Qutb (d. 1966), and Abul Hasan Nadwi (d. 1999)
- The more expansive application of Sharia within Muslim minority communities residing in the West, with the goal of replacing these non-Muslim governing systems, as advocated by contemporary Muslim Brotherhood jihadist ideologues, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, and Tahir Jabir al-Alwani

One of these JMMA essays repeats [23], approvingly, Qutb's pejorative characterization of the West as a "disastrous combination of avid materialism, and egoistic individualism." Abul Hasan Nadwi, was a founding member of the Muslim World League, a member of the Organization of Islamic Conference (now Cooperation), a member of the World Supreme Council of Mosques, and a member of the Fiqh Council of Rabita. In a triumphal 1951 manifesto extolling Islamic supremacism, Nadwi had proclaimed [24] "Behold the world of man looking with rapture at the world of Islam as its savior, and behold the world of Islam fixing its gaze on the Arab world as its secular and spiritual leader. Will the world of Islam realize the hope of the world of men? And will the Arab world realize the hope of the Muslim world?" Citing Nadwi with admiration, the same JMMA article opines [23], "[T]he confrontation has taken the shape of an 'Islamic project' in the Muslim world against Western modernity.... The war that has been declared against Western modernity now seeks a new modernity...unlike Western modernity."
Another featured essay [25] from the current issue [26] of the JMMA is a fitting complement to the journal's endorsement [23] of the global Islamic supremacist agenda. This essay endorses [25] the so-called "innovative" application of the "Jurisprudence of Muslim Minorities," living, for example, in the West, whose stated purpose is, "enforcement of shari'ah on the Muslim communities." However, by the essay's own expressed standard [25]: "The theory of the Jurisprudence of Muslim Minorities is most easily clarified by shedding light on its founders."
The two founders of this legal doctrine, as the essay notes [25], are Yusuf al-Qaradawi of Qatar, and Taha Jabir al-Alwani of Virginia, USA.
Qaradawi has publicly advocated [27]:
- The re-creation of a formal transnational United Islamic State (Islamic Caliphate)
- The jihad conquests of Europe, and the Americas
- Universal application of the Sharia, including Islamic blasphemy law, and the hadd punishments (for example, notably, executing so-called "apostates" from Islam)

Al-Alwani, writing as president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), a think tank created [28] by the Muslim Brotherhood in the early 1980s, stated, regarding a (then) new English translation of the classic Shafiite manual of Islamic jurisprudence Reliance of the Traveller [29], "from a purely academic point of view, this translation is superior to anything produced by orientalists in the way of translations of major Islamic works." Notwithstanding al-Alwani's glowing tribute, Reliance of the Traveller [29] sanctions open-ended jihadism to subjugate the world to a totalitarian Islamic Caliphate; rejection of bedrock Western liberties-including freedom of conscience and speech-enforced by imprisonment, beating, or death; discriminatory relegation of non-Muslims to outcast, vulnerable pariahs, and even Muslim women to subservient chattel (who must be segregated and undergo female genital mutilation); and barbaric punishments which violate human dignity, such as amputation for theft, stoning for adultery, and lashing for alcohol consumption. Moreover,
- Al-Alwani wished [30] Islamized Spain had conquered America and spread Islam in our hemisphere, not Christianity. He stated, "Perhaps some of them [Muslims from Spain] would have been the ones who discovered America, not someone else, and America could have possibly been today among the lands of the Muslims"
- Al-Alwani was named [31] as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case against Sami Al-Arian who pled guilty to conspiracy to aid the terrorist organization, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
- al-Alwani published an essay online, discovered (and translated [32] from Arabic to English) in July 2011, entitled "The Great Haughtiness", which promoted conspiratorial Islamic Jew-hatred replete with Koranic references, conjoined to modern "Zionist conspiracies"

The Abedin family "academic" journal is a thinly veiled mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood's Sharia-supremacist agenda. One can now add this conclusive, public record evidence to a host of other bona fide justifications for the Congressional inquiry demanded by Representative Bachmann, and her four intrepid colleagues.

Defense of Environment and Property Act
You and I are on the verge of losing a vital battle to stop the EPA's reign of terror on property owners.
The only way to win is to strongly demand that more members of the U.S. Senate co-sponsor and support Senator Rand Paul's new bill.
If we fail, the bill will die.
Let me explain.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Fish and Wildlife Service have become OUTLAW agencies of our federal government.
And it's time we brought them under control.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has introduced a bill to do just that. It's called the Defense of Environment and Property Act of 2012 (S. 2122).
Senator Paul's Bill is vital for the protection of private property and personal freedom. It is a new weapon to stop enforcement of Agenda 21 policies.
It is urgent that you sign the enclosed petition to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urging support for S.2122 so that we can finally put a stop to the outrages of these outlaw agencies.
Why do I call these federal agencies Outlaws?
Because they are making their own rules under the pretext of enforcing federal law, particularly the Clean Water Act. As a result, they are ruining the lives of innocent, law abiding Americans and locking away millions of acres of private land - using the excuse of protecting the environment.
- They pretend that occasional mud puddles are wet lands that have to be protected.
- They arrest property owners for simply improving their land, claiming they have violated the Clean Water Act. Many have served prison time for nothing more than putting some fill dirt in a ditch.
- They block property owners from building on their land.
- And they issue crushing fines against property owners, even when there is no proven violation.
- They sneak onto private land looking for violations. And sometimes they even manufacture those violations and then arrest the owners.
- And when they declare an area of the property to be a wetland, true or not, the property owner can no longer use the land, nor sell it.
This is government out of control.
This is a tyranny orchestrated to enforce the policies of Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development.
But you and I can stop it.
We need to build support for Senator Paul's Bill, "Defense of Environment and Property Act, S.2122."
His bill defines exactly what a "navigable water way" is. It is not a mud puddle or a temporary runoff of rain water. How sad it is that a Senate Bill has to clarify these definitions for government agencies entrusted to comply with the law.
But that's what must be done.
Senator Paul's bill also makes it mandatory that Federal agents get written permission from the property owner to enter the land. No more sneaking!
And finally, Senator Paul's bill tells the federal government that, if it takes private land, then it has to pay double the value of the land to the landowner.
Why? Because once the government declares that land is a wetland - the property value plummets. Doubling the price will help enforce the "just compensation" provisions of the 5th Amendment to the Constitution.
S.2122 will help stop enforcement of the UN's Agenda 21 that the EPA and these other federal agencies are working to enforce.
So, please, right now, sign your enclosed "Support S.2122" petition to your U.S. Senator
I need thousands of these signed petitions to build support for the bill.
Remember, we have to force it past Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - one of the worst violators of American property rights and individual liberties. And he decides what bills are brought to the Senate floor for a vote.
Only by flooding Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office with signed petitions can we bi-pass Harry Reid and force a vote for S.2122. The good news is that Senator Paul is Senator McConnell's fellow senator from Kentucky. He will help us get a vote if he sees enough support for the bill from Americans nationwide.
But it won't happen without our efforts! So please sign your petition today!
And, if you can, please call your two Senators and demand they co-sponsors the bill. 30 co-sponsors would assure the bill would get action.

Obama Now Scapegoating Jewish Donor Adelson

President Barack Obama is now campaigning and fundraising directly off attacks on the wealth of conservative casino magnate and prominent Jewish philanthropist Sheldon Adelson. Adelson's good works enjoy bipartisan support--so much so that Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, who supports Obama, recently blasted Democrats' attempts to accuse Adelson of using "dirty money" to support his super PAC donations.
Democrats have made Adelson a target throughout the 2012 campaign, singling him out for abuse, along with other private citizens who have donated to Republicans. Recently, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had to apologize for, and retract, a false accusation that Adelson was giving "Chinese prostitution money" to Republicans. That has not stopped the Obama campaign, or Democrats, from pursuing him, however (nor did it stop Adelson from fighting back by filing a libel suit against the NJDC today.)

Barack Hussein Obama's leftist cabal, desperately trying to avoid any discussion of its failed socialist economic policies, recently returned to its reliable "classism" playbook for a diversionary "tax fairness" challenge.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) cowardly slandered from the Senate floor -- where he is constitutionally immune from prosecution for false statements -- that he has heard from a "Bain Capital investor" that Mitt Romney paid no taxes in the last 10 years. Reid and other partisans are now attempting to obtain Romney's tax returns for those years so Leftists can read the worst into what are undoubtedly very complex tax filings.
"Obviously he can't release those tax returns," Reid declared. "How would it look? ... I mean, you do pretty well if you don't pay taxes for 10 years when you're making millions and millions of dollars."
"How would it look?" Answer: However the Democrats and their Leftmedia lemmings want it to look.
Challenged to reveal his source for this accusation, Reid responded, "I am not basing this on some figment of my imagination. I have had a number of people tell me that. That's the best you're going to get from me. ... I don't think the burden should be on me. The burden should be on him. He's the one I've alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn't he release his tax returns?"
A few days later and again from the Senate floor, coward Reid proclaimed, "So, the word's out that he hasn't paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn't."

The Minority Victim Value Index
Toward the end of Animal Farm when the formerly revolutionary seven commandments have been rewritten to "All Animals are Equal... But Some Animals are More Equal than Others", what began with the promise of equality has reverted to an authoritarian caste system. America's civil rights revolution similarly began with, "All Americans are Equal" and ended up with, "All Americans are Equal... But Some Americans are More Equal than Others." Liberals have seized the commanding heights of the moral high ground by presenting themselves as the protectors of minorities and vowing to replace one racist system with an equally racist, anti-racist system. But caste systems aren't just black and white and the rainbow coalition has internal conflicts. What do liberals do when different groups within the rainbow coalition conflict and how do they make that determination? It's not a new question. Black men got the vote before white women did, and that very issue led to a heated debate over universal suffrage in the Fourteenth Amendment, which was written to include black men, but exclude women. Suffragists were told in Fredrick Douglass' words, "This is the Negro's hour." To explain why that was the hour on the clock, Douglass brought out what would become the Victim Value Index. "When women because they are women are dragged from their houses and hung upon lamp-posts... then they will have the urgency to obtain the ballot equal to our own," Douglass sneered. Women had been dragged out of their homes and subjected to horrors because they were women for far longer than the brief few centuries of African slavery in America, but Douglass' real point was, "My suffering beats your suffering, so my rights beat your rights." In contemporary progressivism this is expressed in the sneering "White Women's Tears" meme. Suffering is the central ideological component of the Victim Value Index. "He Who Suffers Most Wins." But suffering, as in the Douglass debate, is relative. Ego means that people feel their own pain first. And even when they feel someone else's pain more than that of their own group, this is a personal egotistical identification, a selective empathy that derives from their own background and psychological makeup. Historical suffering transmuted into guilt is the gold standard of liberalism, but suffering is relative. In our wonderful multi-everything society, there are so many groups with so many claims to pain. Everyone agrees that the Heteronormative Caucasian Patriarchy of Doom is to blame for all of it, but that still leaves the question of dividing up the spoils of the system and all the privileges to be gained from denouncing privilege. A caste system doesn't work without priority, and calculating the priority of privilege claims by the perpetually underprivileged is complicated.

Higher Gas Prices Add to Economic Slump
Unemployment is at 8.3 percent. The economy is sputtering at 1.5 percent growth. Food prices are rising due to drought conditions across the country. And gas prices are up again, pinching Americans' summer budgets. It is past time for the President and Congress to pursue smart policies that would put us on a path to relief.
According to AAA's Fuel Gauge Report, the current national average for regular is $3.66 per gallon. That's up 28 cents per gallon from a month ago, and July had its biggest price jump since AAA started tracking prices in 2000.
There are many factors affecting prices that we cannot control-worldwide tensions, especially in the Middle East, can drive up oil prices. Global demand, especially from China and India's rapidly growing economies, continues upward.
But after three years of adding regulatory hurdles and blocking exploratory access and development, President Obama's policies are helping keep prices higher than necessary.
If the President truly wanted to lower gas prices, he would work to increase supply. But when given the opportunity, he has done the opposite. He turned down the Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada. His Administration has made it even harder for companies to explore and extract domestic energy resources by canceling, delaying, or withdrawing a number of lease sales for exploration and development. Meanwhile, huge swaths of federal lands have been put off limits for energy exploration.
Domestic refinery outages have had a recent impact on gas prices. Two of the factors holding back domestic energy production are regulatory red tape and litigation-and these, we can do something about. As Heritage's Nicolas Loris notes:
Environmental activists delay new energy projects by filing endless administrative appeals and lawsuits. Creating a manageable time frame for permitting and for groups or individuals to contest energy plans would keep potentially cost-effective ventures from being tied up for years in litigation while allowing the public and interested parties to voice opposition or support for these projects.
We don't have to stand still. Congress could alleviate the energy crunch in 10 different ways by taking action on things we can control, like restrictions on oil shale development and offshore drilling.
One of the most common objections is that increasing domestic oil production takes too long and would not impact the market for at least a decade. The longer people make this argument, however, the longer it will take. The sooner we make investments in domestic energy, the sooner those benefits will be realized. And with some serious reforms, some of this oil can reach the market in much less than a decade.
Gas prices aren't under the control of any one President. But Americans shouldn't settle for policies that restrict oil exploration, refining, and production and artificially drive prices higher.

Gibson Guitar Corporation had accepted a deferred prosecution agreement regarding DOJ's allegation that Gibson had imported wood for its guitars in violation of the Lacey Act, a federal law that makes it a crime to import flora or fauna in violation of a foreign nation's laws. Welfare Work Requirements Respect Human Dignity

Trampling on the central policy that made welfare reform work, the Obama Administration has effectively gutted the work requirements of the bipartisan welfare reforms of 1996. The lesson for policymakers from those reforms was that good principles, good policy, and good results go hand in hand.
By requiring recipients of certain government welfare programs to work, look for work, or take job-training classes, the reforms connected sound moral reasoning to effective public policy: Policy should provide a safety net for those genuinely in need, but it shouldn't treat people as incapable of helping themselves, nor should it enable and incentivize destructive behavior.
As Heritage senior fellow Robert Rector has explained, the work requirements that transformed welfare to workfare have been a hugely successful policy for moving people out of poverty and from dependency to self-sufficiency. After the reforms, welfare caseloads dropped by 50 percent while employment and earnings increased dramatically. As a result, child poverty fell, and black child poverty reached an all-time low.
Good intentions are not enough for a morally sound policy of assisting the poor; how we provide assistance is crucially important. Overall assistance should be holistic, oriented not solely at meeting a material need but at transforming lives to be responsible, productive, and independent. Government assistance shouldn't enable and incentivize the behaviors that lead to poverty in the first place.
Policy shouldn't create a safety net that functions as a poverty trap. Nor should it view the poor as burdens and nuisances to be managed and cared for. Rather, it should treat the poor as persons of inestimable dignity, full of potential, and capable of caring for themselves and making contributions to society. Asking welfare recipients to work and engage in other productive behaviors respects their dignity, potential, and capabilities.
Welfare programs should thus be structured in ways that encourage these productive activities, fostering norms of work, marriage, personal responsibility, and law-abidingness. They should also create expectations (through measures such as time limits) that recipients will one day successfully leave public assistance and be successful members of society.
As research has confirmed again and again, those who finish high school, get a job, and get married before bearing children virtually never fall into prolonged poverty. Climbing out of poverty frequently requires getting right on these same factors-acquiring work-related skills, settling down with a stable family, and finding employment. Welfare reforms should aim to incentivize these behaviors.
The liberal approach to poverty simply seeks ever more material resources-in the form of cash, food, and housing-that allows for the flouting of the very behaviors that would help individuals escape poverty. Enabling people to engage in self-destructive behavior is not a form of authentically caring for them. It's a way of shirking our real moral responsibility.
The goal of any public assistance should be to get people back on their own two feet-providing short-term assistance when a crisis arises but not enabling long-term dependence.
Welfare policy should recognize that the person is more than a bundle of material needs. Americans are a generous people, but they want to know that recipients are doing what they can to move back to self-sufficiency.
Every piece of public policy has moral implications. Yet too often policy makers focus solely on nuts-and-bolts specifics and bottom-line outcomes while overlooking the moral dimensions of public policy. This is especially true when it comes to public assistance for the poor. Indeed, the lesson from welfare reform is that policy inspired by a sound moral vision can help produce the best nuts and bolts and thus secure the best outcomes.

Obamacare by the Numbers
Looking for some straight facts on Obamacare and its impact? Here are some of the most important numbers you need to know about President Obama's health law:
- 20 million. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that as many as 20 million Americans could no longer have their current employer-based health coverage by 2019; others predict it could be as high as 35 million.
- 85 million. The Office of the Actuary at CMS estimates that, by 2020, Medicaid enrollment will increase from 54 million in 2010 to 85 million, pushing America closer to government-run health care.
- 400 percent of the federal poverty level. Individuals earning over $44,680 a year and families earning over $92,200 a year are not eligible for any federal subsidies to help purchase coverage under Obamacare.
- $1 trillion. Based on an updated CBO score, Obamacare imposes 18 new taxes or penalties totaling over $1 trillion from 2013 to 2022 that will directly or indirectly impact families, including those earning below $250,000.
- 8.1.2012. Starting August 1, Obamacare forces many employers, regardless of their religious or moral convictions, to offer abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and contraception.
- $1.683 trillion. Obamacare expects to spend over one-and-a-half trillion dollars between 2012 and 2022 on its coverage expansion provisions alone, according to the CBO.
- 30 million. Updated CBO estimates show that despite spending over a trillion dollars, Obamacare will leave 30 million Americans uninsured in 2021.
- $716 billion. Although Medicare faces $37 trillion in unfunded obligations, Obamacare takes $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for non-Medicare coverage provisions, according to CBO's latest update.
- 15. The number of unelected officials that will be in charge of cutting Medicare payments for millions of seniors under the Independent Payment Advisory Board in Obamacare.
- 50.8 percent. The majority of Americans continue to support repeal. The Real Clear Politics Average from March 10, 2012, to July 28, 2012, shows that voters support repeal by an 8-point margin.

Dana Milbank swings and misses at Andy McCarthy

Andy McCarthy spoke yesterday at the National Press Club about the Obama administration's increasing coziness with the Muslim Brotherhood. One of the concerns he addressed is the relationship between Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Clinton, and the Brotherhood.
Dana Milbank of the Washington Post attended the event. In his column today, he attacks McCarthy's views on the matter of Ms. Abedin. Predictably, the Post's Clown Prince accuses Andy of "McCarthyism."
Readers may recall that my view on this issue differs somewhat from those of Rep. Michelle Bachmann, who originally helped raise it, and Andy. In fact, I found Bachmann's letter to the Department of State regarding Abedin to be problematic.
However, Milbank's attack on McCarthy doesn't hold up.
McCarthy demonstrates why in this post and two follow-ups. Among other things, he shows that Milbank's attempt to pass Abedin off as inconsequential - Hillary Clinton's scheduler and baggage handler - lacks merit.
Milbank makes much of McCarthy's "concession" that Abedin is not a "policy maker." But that's a far cry from saying she doesn't influence policy and/or have access to classified information. McCarthy points out that the Washington Post has reported that Abedin "advises on politics and policy, especially the Middle East." That's not just carrying handbags. Maybe, as McCarthy says, Milbank should read his own paper.
McCarthy also shows that Milbank's moans about "guilt by association" are specious in this context:
When people are being evaluated for their suitability for appointment to high public office and access to national-security information, the whole process is about associations - that's why, for example, the form all candidates for security clearances have to fill out exactingly probes a person's background, relations and associations.

I'll add one more point. Whatever one makes of Abedin's associations, the concerns of McCarthy and Bachmann are, at a minimum, intelligible. Compare that with the connection Milbank purports to find between the attack on Sikhs in Wisconsin, Mitt Romney's criticism of the Obama administration's new position on "workfare," Newt Gingrich's reference to President Obama as "the food-stamp president," and Andy McCarthy's appearance at the Press Club.
But being the Washington Post's Clown Prince means never having to make an intelligible argument.

That's the takeaway line from meteorologist Cliff Mass on his Cliff Mass Weather Blog today, delivering a savage beatdown on the latest global warming scaremongering from NASA's egregious James Hansen about recent summer heat waves: "It follows that we can state, with a high degree of confidence, that extreme anomalies such as those in Texas and Oklahoma in 2011 and Moscow in 2010 were a consequence of global warming because their likelihood in the absence of global warming was exceedingly small." Mass thinks this is a mass of hot air.
Who is Cliff Mass, and why should we pay attention to him? Mass is an atmospheric scientist at the University of Washington. He's no climate skeptic; as he says in the post quoted in the headline here, "I believe that human-induced global warming is both observed, real, and a serious problem for mankind." But to his credit he thinks politicized, agenda-driven scientists like James Hansen, and the credulous media that always give credence to every poorly reasoned claim, do more harm than good.
There's a lot in his cogent post, and it's worth reading the whole thing. But here's the most important part:
Now as the earth warms up the temperature variations shown remain like the bell curve...or Gaussian, but the mean should shift to warmer temperatures (see the figure below). The result is that you get more warm extremes and less cold extremes (less cold extremes are not mentioned very often for some reason).
So the result is that you seem more warm temperature records and less cold temperature records. We are in fact seeing this. The earth is warming and there are more maximum temperature records than cold ones. Hansen and friends make a big deal about this.
But what they are not telling you is that the very warm anomalies we are seeing today would have been nearly as large if global warming had never occurred. In his paper he makes a big deal about large (three sigma) anomalies from climatology. Well, without any global warming the anomalies might have been say 2.8 sigma. Or in terms of terms, heat waves of 10F might have been only 9F if global warming had not occurred. To say it differently, the impact of global warming due to greenhouse gases is still small compared to natural processes, and the impacts to society would have been pretty much the same. But you never hear it this way. Those exaggerating the global warming signal imply that we are going from normal conditions to extremes due to global warming. In reality, we go from naturally induced extremes, to a bit stronger extremes due to global warming.
Mass adds:
As an aside, the journal that this article was published in...the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)...allows members of the National Academy (like Dr. Hansen) to publish articles with essentially no peer review. Until 2010 they could publish anything, with no peer review, and most recently the submission review is "supervised" by the submitting academy member WHO GETS TO SELECT THE REVIEWERS. Folks, this is really unfortunate for an entity that claims to be national journal of some reputation. The result has been a lot of very bad papers in PNAS that would never have been accepted in real journals,with a real peer review process. One could use stronger words, but this is a family blog.
Like Al Gore, reckless scientists like Hansen are the climate skeptic's best friend.

Virginia Senate race remains deadlocked

Two new polls of the Virginia Senate race show what virtually every such poll for months has indicated - the race between Tim Kaine and George Allen is deadlocked. The latest from Rasmussen has the race dead even, at 46-46. Quinnipiac gives Kaine an insignificant 48-46 lead.
Obama seems consistently to poll about two points better against Romney in Virginia than Kaine does against Allen. In a sense, this is odd. Kaine is more moderate than Obama and thus should not lag. On the other hand, Allen presumably is more popular than Romney, who is a "stranger" at this point, and one who has been hammered by negative advertising.
I give Romney a good chance of closing any gap he may have in relation to Allen. But under current polling, this would still leave him no better than a 50-50 bet to carry the state.

E.J. Dionne never disappoints

E.J. Dionne delivers two pieces of hack sophistry for the price of one in his latest column. One of them is foolish; the other dishonest.
The foolish attack is his claim that if you "hate" Obamacare, you "must" return any rebate check you receive from an insurance company as a result of that Act. This, Dionne claims, is "just common sense." If you believe in free enterprise, then the government should not be telling insurance companies to offer better deals and you should not accept the fruit of better deals that result. Dionne then asks whether Mitt Romney received a rebate and if so, whether he returned it.
Dionne's logic would be an embarrassment on a kindergarten playground, By his reasoning, if you believe that the Bush tax cuts represent an improper break for high-earners, then, if you are a high-earner, you should pay at the higher rate that would have prevailed without those cuts. And if you receive a tax refund, you "must" return at least a portion of it. Indeed, every taxpayer has an obligation to pay not just what the federal government assesses, but also any additional amount that would be owed if the government used "fair" rates.
In fact, the "imperative" not to benefit from an improvident, imprudent, or unfair tax cut is stronger than the imperative Dionne posits regarding Obamacare. A tax cut is a tax cut and nothing else. Obamacare is a highly complex piece of legislation, strong opposition to which does not presuppose opposition to every feature. Romney, for example, obviously does not oppose the individual mandate in principle.
Moreover, opponents may believe that the supposed benefits of Obamacare can better be achieved through free market mechanisms. Romney, for example, believes that premium reductions would result from fair competition. He thus rejects Dionne's premise that only Obamacare can deliver better deals on insurance.
But even under that premise, the notion that Romney, or anyone else, should be returning checks is ridiculous. Those checks will be small consolation for the increased burdens, financial and physical, that are likely to stem from Obamacare.
Dionne's dishonest point is that Mitt Romney's support of states rights, as a general matter, is inconsistent with his criticism of President Obama's plan to grant waivers to states in the operation of their "workfare" programs. In this regard, Dionne also claims that Romney should criticize the two Republican governors who have sought waivers.
But the problem with Obama's order is not that it gives states flexibility to, for example, avoid excessive paperwork, in response to complaints by governors. As I explained yesterday, quoting Robert Rector, the problem is that the Obama administration claims authority to overhaul every aspect of the work provisions including definitions of work activities and engagement, specified limitations, verification procedures and the calculation of participation rates - in other words, the whole work program. Because HHS has granted itself total authority to change any aspect of the work standards, the agency is no longer bound its state-by-state waiver approach.
To characterize Romney's opposition to this power grab by Obama's Department of HHS as an affront to states rights and an attack on two Republican governors is just the kind of dishonesty that Dionne delivers without disappointment.

The whole Chick-fil-a thing got me curious about the companies that have been targeted for boycotts etc. by the Left in recent years. The results are interesting.

(Note to consumers out west: another privately-owned food outlet that has conservative principles-both theologically and politically-is In-and-Out Burgers. Best. Burgers. Ever. Just ask Donnie. Be sure to order "animal style." You In-and-Out veterans-and Big Lebowski fans-will know what I'm talking about.)

Romney Does Battle On Values
We reported Tuesday that Romney is challenging Obama over his efforts to expand dependency by waiving the extremely popular work requirement in the 1996 welfare reform law. This is essentially a values issue, going to the core of Judeo-Christian teaching about the responsibility of people to first provide for themselves and their families, leaving social safety nets for emergencies.
Today the Romney campaign forcefully engaged on values issues with the launch of a new ad, entitled "Be Not Afraid," that takes Obama on over religious freedom.
The ad opens by asking, "Who shares your values?" It then slams Obama for using ObamaCare to "declare war on religion." Drawing a parallel to the Soviet Union's oppression of religious freedom, the ad continues by praising Pope John Paul II's courage in resisting the "evil empire" and notes Romney's endorsement by former Polish President Lech Walesa.

Obama Cancer Ad Backfires
The Obama campaign could be in big trouble. The despicable ad produced by Priorities USA, a pro-Obama super PAC, that accuses Mitt Romney of being responsible for a woman's death is being roundly condemned, and Team Obama is doing its best to distance itself from the ad.
Obama's deputy campaign manager told CNN, "I don't know the facts about when Mr. Soptic's wife got sick or the facts about his health insurance." Another campaign spokesperson said, "We have nothing, no involvement, with any ads that are done by Priorities USA. We don't have any knowledge of the story of the family."
But that is not entirely true. Politico reported yesterday that Mr. Soptic took part in an official Obama campaign conference call two months ago in which he discussed the details of his layoff, his wife's illness and her death. He also appeared in an official Obama campaign ad.
Now here's the unfortunate reality. Even though the Obama campaign appears to have been caught red-handed in illegal coordination, it is likely hoping that more people will see the ad than will ever learn why it is false. As uncomfortable as it may be for the Obama campaign to defend it now, it can take comfort in knowing that it has likely achieved its purpose. These radicals believe in moral relativism, and to them the ends justify the means.
That's why it is so important that you share these reports with like-minded and open-minded friends and family members. Encourage them to sign up too! Don't waste your time trying to persuade die-hard liberals. But if every conservative will adopt one undecided voter and bring him or her our way between now and November 6th, we will win this election!
Obama's Enthusiasm Gap
I've written before about how polling is used by the liberal media as propaganda to demoralize conservatives. There has been another round of surveys in recent days that show Obama narrowly leading in key swing states. But this is no reason for conservatives to be discouraged.
The most important poll will take place on November 6th, when the voters head to their polling locations. And new research out today from Resurgent Republic finds that Republican-leaning voters are far more enthusiastic than Democrats -- 62 to 49 percent -- about voting in the November elections. While Resurgent Republic is a GOP firm, last month Gallup, a non-partisan firm, reported a similar 12-point enthusiasm gap between Republicans and Democrats.
In addition, Obama is having a difficult time motiving his 2008 voters. According to the survey:
- Obama's support among young voters has been cut in half. In 2008, Obama carried the youth vote by 34 points. Today he's up by 18.
- In 2008 Obama carried Catholic voters by nine points. Today they are evenly divided.
- In 2008 Obama won 60% support from voters earning $50,000 or less. Today, just 53% support him.
A lot can change between now and November. But if Obama's enthusiasm gap persists in the weeks ahead, conservatives have good reason to hope for change!

So. Can you say "double-standard"?
Doubtless you saw this story on Carbonite last week from the always informative William A. Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection.
Carbonite, you will recall, is the online data backup company that abruptly pulled its sponsorship from Rush Limbaugh's show over the Sandra Fluke dust-up. (And in case you missed it, Ms. Fluke spent time yesterday introducing President Obama on the campaign trail.)
In a spot-on piece of reporting, Jacobson wrote of the economic fallout of Carbonite's move:
On August 1 Carbonite released its 2d Quarter 2012 results, the first full quarter after dropping Limbaugh in March. The results shocked Wall Street, as Carbonite did not meet its growth targets, causing multiple analysts to drop the target price. The stock dropped 15% in a day. (h/t reader W)
Most important, in a conference call held on August 1, the CEO David Friend admitted that dropping Limbaugh damaged Carbonite's growth, and is likely to do so for at least one or two more quarters.
Jacobson quotes directly from a conference phone call with financial analysts made by Carbonite's CEO Mr. Friend: "It turned out to be a bigger hole in our revenue than we had thought when we initially did this."

Rob Sobhani uses a unique combination of conversations with ordinary people, sharply-drawn facts, some scary statistics, and common-sense anecdotes to make his case.
"Think about a lifeboat for a moment. By its nature, a lifeboat has a set circumference and will hold only a limited number of people. American Blacks Shortchanged by Immigration
Probably Sobhani's biggest beef with current American immigration policy is that it puts our own native black population at such disadvantage for jobs. Sobhani tells about flying to Houston, Texas, and getting into a taxi driven by an African-American man in his 50s. The driver spoke up when Sobhani stated he had travelled from Washington, D.C. He complained about his own U.S. Member of Congress, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (graded as "F-" by NumbersUSA for her dismal voting record):
"'As far as I can see, she talks out of both sides of her mouth, pretending to represent blacks while she's throwing open the doors to aliens who are taking our jobs.'
"'You see this cab,' the driver asked? 'I'm one of the only black cab drivers in this area. There used to be a time when there were a lot of black cab drivers. Now they're all immigrants.'
"'I've got nothing against any people trying to make a living,' he said, 'but it's very simply the law of supply and demand. There are only so many jobs, and if we're putting out the welcome wagon to foreigners before we take care of our own, that's a problem.'"
Sobhani's concern for displacement of African Americans is deeply felt, but it's more than sentiment. There's also huge money involved. He writes:
"I came across a demonstration in downtown Washington, D.C. Around 50 black carpenters--all members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters--were protesting the use of illegal aliens by a company called Tricon Construction. They told me the company pays illegal workers up to $7 an hour less."
He goes on to say:
"The dollars lost to the black community are not a figure out of thin air. Since 1990, if all eligible blacks were employed at an average salary of just $20,000, they would have earned more than $1 trillion in wages. The numbers don't lie. . . .
"The median household income of blacks is $32,000, compared with $37,000 for illegal immigrants. . . Only one in three blacks ages 16-24 is employed, compared with more than half of whites in the same age group.
"When I talk to the average black citizen, it becomes clear that the new civil rights issue is jobs. With a job comes dignity, stability, and power. You can't have a place at the table without a job. The conflict between native blacks and immigrant populations vying for jobs isn't strictly a numbers game; it's also an attitude game, Time and again, studies have shown that when given the choice, employers give preferential treatment to immigrants."
Excess Immigration, Anchor Babies, and Dual Citizenship
For Sobhani, the issue isn't just illegal immigration, it's also over-immigration of all kinds. He points out that the United States went from 200 million people to 300 million people in just 40 years. Sobhani's withering analysis of the birthright citizenship phenomenon:
"Currently, there are about 350,000 anchor babies born every year at an estimated cost to U.S. taxpayers of $118 billion. Their infants are huge consumers of social services. When an anchor baby is born, the parents are usually allowed to stay in the country. Since they probably have no income (it being illegal for them to work in the United States), the baby is eligible for a raft of services, from housing aid to food stamps to medical care."
As the son of political refugees from Iran, he is disturbed about the trend toward dual citizenship:
"Before [my father] fled Iran, he had been a general. When he was forced out of Iran and settled in America, he refused to become an American citizen, even though he could have. I asked him, 'Dad, why don't you become an American citizen?' He told me, 'Because I cannot have dual loyalty. I made an oath to serve my country. I can't come here, raise my hand, and go through the sham of saying now I'm going to be an American. . . Yet, every day, immigrants raise their hands and swear an oath while knowing that their loyalties could be tested.
"One clear example of divided loyalty is dual citizenship. How can a new citizen pledge that 'I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiances and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen' whole maintaining citizenship in his or her country of origin?"
