DHS and US Military Make Final Preparations Before Announcing Martial Law
By Susanne Posel, Contributing Writer theintelhub.com August 8, 2012
Informants and military personnel are coming forth anonymously to confirm that martial law "is right around the corner."
However, right now we are under a silent martial law and citizens are reporting strange and unexplainable activity from the US armed forces and multiple federal agencies that point to a covert preparatory operation to completely lock down America in the very near future.
Sources from multiple locations across the nation have independently confirmed that the US military are repositioning soldiers in conjunction with allied foreign troops in the initial stages of martial law.
The US military are secretly moving massive amounts of "equipment" across the country consistently for more than a year. In Phoenix, Arizona, tractor-trailers transporting tanks on public highways have been spotted.
One witness stated that he saw these flatbeds multiple times in the month of June. Eye witness reports are coming primarily from the northern and southern Border States.

I just head on the radio this morning that the University of California, Berkley, has acquired a military type vehicle (tank???). The host asked what they would need that type of vehicle for. He also mentioned that it didn't cost Berkley anything. It was provided by the government (our money). |

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21
| | By Kelly OConnell
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.
I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development
The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.
A. Ramsar Convention (1971)
According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). Another site, Texans Against Agenda 21, also states that the seed agreement for Agenda 21 was Ramsar:

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Dear Friends,
We have 98 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.
If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent
nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.
We do not have to travel down this road. We can change the course. You can help steer America in the right direction.
If you want an America where free enterprise is respected and ObamaCare is repealed,
and not the other way, stay in the area this summer & fall . Volunteer at Republican Victory Centers.
Attend local events promoting our region's Republican Congressional candidates--including our tri-state Republican US Senate candidates--Tom Smith (PA), Joe Kyrillas (NJ), and Kevin Wade (DE).

Dear Members and Friends,
John Fund's new book Who's Counting? will be featured, along with its author, at this Sunday's "Winning in 2012" event (details below).
The book, which has a release date of August 14, will be made available to us (two days early) for purchase and signing. Here's the book's promo:
Who's Counting? Publication Date: August 14, 2012
The 2012 election will be one of the hardest-fought in U.S. history. It is also likely to be one of the closest, a fact that brings concerns about voter fraud and bureaucratic incompetence in the conduct of elections front and center. If we don't take notice, we could see another debacle like the Bush-Gore Florida recount of 2000 in which courts and lawyers intervened in what should have involved only voters.
Who's Counting? will focus attention on many problems of our election system, ranging from voter fraud to a slipshod system of vote counting that noted political scientist Walter Dean Burnham calls "the most careless of the developed world."
In an effort to clean up our election laws, reduce fraud and increase public confidence in the integrity of the voting system, many states ranging from Georgia to Wisconsin have passed laws requiring a photo ID be shown at the polls and curbing the rampant use of absentee ballots, a tool of choice by fraudsters.
The response from Obama allies has been to belittle the need for such laws and attack them as akin to the second coming of a racist tide in American life. In the summer of 2011, both Bill Clinton and DNC chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz preposterously claimed that such laws suppressed minority voters and represented a return to the era of Jim Crow.
Hope to see you on Sunday! (Advance registration is reqiured--please click the Register Now! link
found in the invitation below.)
On behalf of the Association Board,
Teri Adams

Half price off 2013 Summit Registration until august 15th
Our seventh annual Washington Summit was our best to date. Never before have we been so warmly received by our nation's leaders in Washington. And never before have we had such an immediate impact. In fact, legislation we support to enhance U.S.-Israel security cooperation was passed even before our Summit was over!
Let's face it -- there's nothing like having thousands of pro-Israel Christians from every state in the Union in town to focus Congress on the need to stand with Israel!
As our delegates discovered, the very fact that they cared enough about Israel to travel all the way to Washington gave them immediate credibility, influence and favor with their members of Congress. Increasingly, Members of Congress and their staff are getting to know our members by name and are staying in touch with them after they return home.
Our DC summit is not a one-time event. It's an annual opportunity for you to become an influential spokesman for Israel in your community. We give you the training. We schedule your appointments. All you need to do is show up and stand up for Israel.
Whether or not you were able to join us this year, we pray that you'll plan on joining us next year. Our 2013 Washington Summit will be held on July 22- 24. While the trip is not inexpensive, making your decision to join us now will give you almost a full year to save up for this powerful experience.
We'd like to encourage you to plan ahead -- and help you save enough -- by providing you with additional savings if you make your decision soon. If you register for the 2013 Summit by August 15th, you will only have to pay half the full Summit price.
We pray that we will see you in Washington, D.C. July 22- 24, 2013.
May God Bless You and Those That You Love,

The PAOLI VICTORY CENTER is the location of our August 10th VF Patriots Mtg. This is a phone bank location with 15 phones in Ste. 300 of the DEPOT SHOPPES 21 Plank Avenue, Paoli, PA , behind the Burger King on Lancaster Ave. Salome Gasabile is the Victory Field Director here and she'd welcome you ANY time. Already 10 people have volunteered to work the phones that night, but MORE are needed to cover EVERY phone from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. and relieve each other for dinner breaks, etc. Peg Layden Phone Bank Chairman 610 644-6161 STOP the Smartmeter NOW Dear Patriots, Just to make you aware, Smartmeters are here. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off. Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them. Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. Do you want the department of energy monitoring your usage of electric via PECO and possibly turning off your electric and certain peak hours (as explained in this video). http://www.wfmz.com/news/news-regional-berks/Met-Ed-customers-seeing-red-over-green-program/-/121418/15203070/-/prtufy/-/index.html What you can do: Representative Reese from Westmoreland County has introduced two bills which are in the Consumer Affairs Committee. ONE BILL WOULD ALLOW FOR OPTING OUT OF GETTING A SMART METER THE OTHER BILL WOULD REQUIRE CONSUMER CONSENT BEFORE INFORMATION FROM THE METER COULD BE SHARED WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Please contact the people listed in the link and let them know that we want these bills brought to the floor for the vote. This is our local electric company being used for the UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). We need everyone's involvement so pass on to everyone you know. Let's make an effort to get this out of committee. http://www.repreese.com/NewsItem.aspx?NewsID=13371 http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/cteeInfo.cfm?cde=10&body=H Explanation of Smartmeters is in this link. It is a little long, but you need to see how the global market is taking over our liberties. http://www.freedomadvocates.org/video/watch/129_technocracy_sustainable_development_and_the_smart_grid/ By the way, PECO took 200 million in stimulus money in PA to implement the smartmeters. They are using taxpayers money to enslave us. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/10 Please contact state representatives immediately. Let's protect our properties rights. http://stopsmartmeters.org/how-you-can-stop-smart-meters/ I have contacted PECO and told them not to install a smartmeter on my house. I would suggest doing the same with your electric company. They need a loud outcry from the american people. I will also be putting this sticker on my meter. I will be editing the wording down below, but here it is. http://turn.org/downloads/TURN-Do-Not-Install-the-Smart-Meter.pdf?utm_source=turnweb&utm_medium=download-sign&utm_content=DIA%2Bpage&utm_campaign=smart-meter Blessings, Mark, Betty, Jeff, Joe & Michele VFP Steering Committee |

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. Fellow Patriot --
It might be the most outrageous abuse of regulatory power yet from the Obama administration - and that is saying
a lot
.
The president's health care law attempted to coerce states into administering its vast new health care entitlement by offering huge subsidies if states would set up "exchanges," new health care bureaucracies. The Democrats who wrote the law thought every state would be eager to do it - but the American people rose up and demanded states say no. And they did. At least 30 states said
no thanks
to the exchanges with their huge new taxpayer-funded subsidies and employer taxes.
Now the IRS is attempting to illegitimately rewrite the law to force states that lawfully opted out back in, by allowing subsidies to flow through
federal
exchanges. And the IRS is claiming companies must pay penalty taxes of thousands of dollars per employee - even if their state lawfully opted out. It's literally taxation without representation - and it's happening in secret, without the American people having a voice.
Fortunately, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has introduced Senate Joint Resolution 48 (S.J. Res. 48) to overturn this outrageous IRS power grab and allow states to exercise their lawful power to opt out of Obama's health care subsidies and employer taxes.
We can force a Senate vote on overturning this outrageous IRS power grab if just 30 senators sign a discharge petition under the Congressional Review Act. And we can pass it on the Senate floor with just 51 votes, because the resolution is protected from filibuster. (That would force Obama to use his veto pen and take full political responsibility if he wants to continue this outrage.)
This health care law is such a disaster that Obama is relying on his IRS - one of the most hated government agencies- to secretly rewrite it and force states that opted out back in. If we can get 30 senators to sign onto this discharge petition, we can expose what's happening to the American people and build an even stronger case for repeal.
Please forward this email to anyone you know who may be interested in this issue. We need a groundswell of support to force a vote on this issue. Thank you so much for your help.
Yours truly,
Phil Kerpen

US Jewish Olympic Gymnast Aly Raisman shows up IOC with a gold salute to Munich 11
New York Post | Leonard Greene | August 8, 2012
 | GYM DANDY: Jewish-American gymnast Aly Raisman dazzles the London Games yesterday with her Olympic gold-medal floor routine set to the crowd-pleasing "Hava Nagila." |
It wasn't a gloved-fist salute from the medal stand, but Jewish-American gymnast Aly Raisman made quite a statement yesterday by winning a gold medal and invoking the memory of the Israeli athletes killed 40 years ago in Munich.
Raisman finished first in the women's floor exercise, but she deserves to have another medal draped around her neck for having the chutzpah to face the world and do what needed to be done and say what needed to be said.
At the same Olympic Games where bigoted organizers stubbornly refuse to honor the slain athletes with a moment of silence, 18-year-old Raisman loudly shocked observers first by winning, then by paying her own tribute to 11 sportsmen who died long before she was born.
And if that weren't enough, she won her event with the Hebrew folk song "Hava Nagila" playing in the background.
"Having that floor music wasn't intentional," an emotional but poised Raisman told reporters after her performance.
"But the fact it was on the 40th anniversary is special, and winning the gold today means a lot to me."
Then Raisman stuck the landing.

Obama Regime helps to free Muslim murderer of 5 Marines
Aug 08, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
Feigning indignity, outrage and remorse, the Obama Administration quietly watched from the sidelines as a Hezbollah commander, guilty of planning the murder of five U.S. Marines, was set free on July 30th by the Iraqi central criminal court.
In January of 2007, a dozen or more terrorists dressed in U.S. uniforms opened fire on a military camp in Karbala, just south of Baghdad. One soldier died at the scene and four others were kidnapped, tortured and murdered by the terrorists. The mastermind of this complex and well-planned attack was Ali Mussa Daqduq, a Lebanese national taken by U.S. forces in Basra just 2 months after the operation.
For 5 years, Daqduq was held at Camp Cropper, a US military detention facility in Baghdad. Yet neither George Bush nor Barack Obama saw fit to try the terrorist killer for his crimes.
For the criminal prosecution of Daqduq, whether in ... Continue Reading:Obama Regime helps to free Muslim murderer of 5 Marines

The largest town in Kentucky had less than 2,000 people, yet 25,000 came to Cane Ridge, Kentucky, AUGUST 7, 1801, from as far away as Ohio and Tennessee, to hear Barton W. Stone and other Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian ministers. Part of the Second Great Awakening, these "camp meetings" were described by Rev. Moses Hodge: "Nothing that imagination can paint can make a stronger impression... Sinners dropping down on every hand, professors praying, others in raptures of joy!... There can be no question but it is of God, as the subjects...can give a clear and rational account of their conversion." The revival began in the lawless Kentucky frontier in 1797 when James McGready and his small church agreed to: "Therefore, we bind ourselves to observe the third Saturday of each month for one year as a day of fasting and prayer for the conversion of sinners in ... Oregon to jail rain water collector and force condemned murderer to accept reprieve

Oregon is indeed a strange place.
Somewhere George Orwell is smiling and wondering how his "1984" became a Democrat policy SOP. The morally hollow Democrats who run Oregon have descended to a level of insane devotion to government that would make Karl Marx swell with pride. Two current stories from Oregon give us an idea of the depravity we face when we make the mistake of allowing Democrats to run our lives.
In the first story Gary Harrington, an Eagle Point Oregon man has been convicted of the crime of collecting rain water on his own property. He was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail and pay a $1,500 fine for violating an Oregon law that deems all water to be publically owned including snow runoff and rainwater that rolls off the roof of a privately owned building. Democrat Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber is so determined to see Harrington punished he ... Continue Reading:Oregon to jail rain water collector and force condemned murderer to accept reprieve

A Map to the Muslim Middle East
The Muslim Middle East has three types of governments: Military, Tribal and Ideological. A military government is formed when senior officers take power. A tribal government is based around a group of prominent families. An ideological government is based around a party, whether secular or Islamist. All these governments are tyrannies; though they may occasionally hold elections, they never open up the system. The elections serve as a means for passing from one tyranny to the next. While these types of governments are different in some ways, they are not exclusive. Most overlap in a number of ways. Military and ideological governments will become tribal as a few officers, leaders or Ayatollahs use their control of the economy to enrich themselves and their families. That is what happened in Egypt and in Iran. The Muslim Brotherhood differs from Mubarak in any number of political ways, but, on a personal level, its leaders share his goal of enriching their families. Whether a new government starts out as Islamist, Fascist or Socialist; these facades inevitably revert to the tribal. That is the fate of all governments in the Muslim Middle East, which do not evolve, but devolve. Every Muslim leader, beginning with Mohammed, borrowed ideas brought in from outside to form a new system that became identical with the old. Mohammed borrowed from Judaism and Christianity to create the religious structure for yet another tribal government controlled by his father-in-law. In the 20th Century the Muslim Middle East borrowed from the British Empire, France, Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, the USSR and the United States, to create hybrid systems that were either overthrown or which devolved into tribalism with an ideological facade. Like Mohammed, the bright new ideology ends up with a bunch of relatives in charge of the loot. Muslim countries are forever at war with themselves. Military governments fear popular protests organized by ideological movements to seize power. And the ideological governments fear military coups. Tribal governments fear everyone and cripple their own military and bribe their own people to avoid being overthrown by officers or ideologues. Every government is only a few bad months away from losing power, and so every government fears being overthrown by its enemies and implements a regime of secret police and prisons. No sooner do the revolutionaries step out of prison to usher in a new era than the same thugs are rehired to torture enemies of the new regime.

Islamic regime ready to have 'direct confrontation' immediately
byReza Kahlili August 8, 2012
Should any of the Iranians taken hostage by rebels in Syria be harmed, America should expect Iran's intelligence agents to respond in kind, the Islamic regime has warned.
Forty-eight Iranians were seized Saturday in Damascus by rebels seeking to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime. Iran claims they are pilgrims, but Abdel Nasser Shemir, a rebel commander, in an interview with the news organization Al Arabiya, charged they were members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards whose confiscated documents proved as much.
"They are 48, in addition to an Afghani interpreter," Shemir said, alleging that the captives were members of a 150-strong group sent by Iran for "reconnaissance on the ground."
Iran quickly blamed America, Saudi Arabia and Qatar for the kidnapping. Hours after the abduction, Ali Larijani, the speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said that, "America and certain countries of the region are responsible for these crimes, and they will receive the appropriate response at the right time."
A media outlet called "The Youth Reporter's Club," which is run by the Revolutionary Guards intelligence unit, also blamed America for the abduction, stating that America, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are involved in the events in Syria and that Iran is ready to "change the proxy war into a direct confrontation on an immediate basis." The statement warned America that should any of the abducted Iranians be harmed, Iran will harm America and Americans.

For some reason, the article below makes an important point but fails to bring it home. Here are some additional statistics to help its message really sink in:
- The world population is about 7 billion
- The world Muslim population is about 1.5 billion
- Approximately 85% of all Muslims are Sunnis
- This means that the world Sunni population is about 1.3 billion
- This means that Sunni Muslim represent about 19% of the world population
In other words, 19% of the world population is responsible for 70% of all terrorist murders, leaving the remaining 81% of the world population to commit the other 30%, for all purposes whatsoever, ranging from Communism to anarchism to tribalism to nationalism to racism to Shiite extremism to Hindu extremism to Buddhist extremism to Christian extremism to Jewish extremism. And these numbers are skewed because Shiites are being lumped together with non-Muslims.
What does this mean? It means that a Sunni Muslim is roughly 10 times more likely to be a terrorist with blood on his hands than a non-Sunni Muslim(math: (70/19)/(30/81) = 9.95 -- This approximation assumes that a Sunni terrorist kills about the same number of people per incident as a non-Sunni terrorist).
That's an impressive statistic, coming from a "religion of peace."

(CNSNews.com) - Sunni Muslim terrorists committed "about 70 percent" of the 12,533 terrorist murders in the world last year, according to a report by the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC).
The information comes from the 2011 NCTC Report on Terrorism, which is based on information available as of March 12, 2012.
"Sunni extremists accounted for the greatest number of terrorist attacks and fatalities for the third consecutive year," the report says. "More than 5,700 incidents were attributed to Sunni extremists, accounting for nearly 56 percent of all attacks and about 70 percent of all fatalities."
The report says that in 2011, a total of 10,283 terrorism attacks across the world killed 12,533 people. Terrorism also is blamed for 25,903 injuries and 5,554 kidnappings.
According to NCTC, of the 12,533 terrorism-related deaths worldwide, 8,886 were perpetrated by "Sunni extremists," 1,926 by "secular/political/anarchist" groups, 1,519 by "unknown" factions, 170 by a category described as "other", and 77 by "Neo-Nazi/Fascist/White Supremacist" groups.

US drug shortages could continue for years
Original Text
Sharmila Devi
Recent shortages of critical drugs in the USA have hampered patient care and attracted much media attention. Sharmila Devi examines the problems with America's drug supply.
Severe shortages of drugs such as sterile injectables that have forced physicians in the USA to practise medicine from crisis to crisis are likely to continue for several more years, say regulators and health-care providers.
Around 280 drugs, almost all manufactured in the USA, remain in short supply because of factors including a dwindling number of makers of some drugs, deteriorating conditions in factories, and low prices for generics leading to a lack of investment to upgrade plants.
The shortages have led to delays in surgery and cancer treatments, left patients in pain, and forced hospitals to prescribe less effective treatment, said a review by the Associated Press late last year. At least 15 deaths in 15 months were blamed on the shortages, according to data compiled by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, a patient safety group, and the true number might be higher because many deaths and injuries caused by shortages go unreported.
"We don't have any expectation the issue will be resolved soon", Sandra Kweder, deputy director of the Food and Drug Administration's Office of New Drugs, told The Lancet. "It will be several years before companies building new plants get them up and running."

Obama SuperPac Releases One of the Most Ugly, Misleading Ads in Campaign History
|
|
by John Sexton
The Obama political machine's race to the bottom has dived deep beneath the muck of Harry Reid's lies about Romney's taxes and finally hit bedrock. Today Priorities USA released a new ad that will surely rank among the ugliest and most dishonest in the history of political campaigns. Titled "Understands" the ad features Joe Soptic describing how Mitt Romney is responsible for his wife's death from lung cancer. It's Lyndon Johnson's Daisy ad made more personal and therefore even more vile.
When Mitt Romney and Bain closed the plant, I lost my healthcare, and my family lost their healthcare. And a short time after that my wife became ill.
I don't know how long she was sick and I think maybe she didn't say anything because she knew that we couldn't afford the insurance, and then one day she became ill and I took her up to the Jackson County Hospital and admitted her for pneumonia and that's when they found the cancer and by then it was stage four. It was, there was nothing they could do for her.
And she passed away in 22 days.
I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he's done to anyone, and furthermore I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned.

But, unfortunately for those organizing the "National Marriage Equality Day" on Tuesday, turnout was relatively low -- at least when compared to the number of Americans who came out to support Chick-fil-A just days earlier. Check the disappopinting stats HERE.

Obama Camp's Top Ten Most Audacious Lies (And Why They're Working) By John Nolte Breitbart.com
Admittedly, there are all kinds of people much smarter than I out there making the case that Team Obama's primary goal is to disqualify Mitt Romney by portraying him as a rich, venal, out-of-touch corporate raider determined to grab hold of presidential power in order to enslave the middle class. This, I think, is wrong. Those attacks are merely the tools the Obama campaign is using to attain a much bigger and more effective goal.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 90 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Click here to listen now. The Final Three? As speculation mounts that Mitt Romney will announce his vice presidential selection this week, NBC's Chuck Todd reports "with a high degree of confidence" that the top three contenders are former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Senator Rob Portman and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. Lies, Lies & More Lies Is there nothing Barack Obama and his supporters won't say or do in their desperation to win? Monday I told you about Harry Reid's outrageous accusations regarding Mitt Romney's taxes. Well just when you think the left can't sink any lower, it does. A pro-Obama super PAC has produced a despicable ad that blames Mitt Romney for a woman's death! In the ad, a former steel mill worker says Romney shut down the plant where he worked, costing his family its health insurance. Soon afterwards his wife was diagnosed with stage four cancer and died 22 days later. The man goes on to say that he doesn't think Mitt Romney is concerned about people like him. This ad should not surprise us. Many leftists brag about the fact that they are cultural and moral relativists, that truth is subjective, and the ends justify the means. Lying and cheating to advance the greater collective good -- in this case Obama's reelection -- is just fine. Here are the facts:
- Mitt Romney had left Bain Capital to run the Salt Lake City Olympics before this plant was shut down.
- The man's wife had separate health insurance coverage through her employer.
- She passed away years after the plant closed, not mere days or weeks as the ad implies.
The ad is so inaccurate and over-the-top that even the "mainstream media" can't stomach it. Watch CNN take it apart here. Romney Hood & The Sheriff Of Nothingham Barack Obama probably thought he was being cute this week when he dubbed Mitt Romney's tax plan "Romney Hood" or "Robin Hood in reverse" -- raising taxes on the poor and giving money to the rich. Obama based his remarks on a study that suggested Mitt Romney's tax plan would lead to middle class tax increases. As usual, Obama's got it completely wrong. On his show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh said, "Robin Hood was stealing from the government. Robin Hood was a tea party activist. Robin Hood was anti-taxes." Continuing that theme, the only candidate in this race who is calling for tax increases is Barack Obama! So if Obama wants to be the tax collector for the welfare state, that would make him the "Sheriff of Nothingham," which describes what Obama has delivered over the past four years -- nothing. No jobs, no recovery and no hope. On a more serious note, today's Wall Street Journal dissects the flawed study by a left-wing group that grossly mischaracterized the Romney tax plan. Here are some key excerpts:
"The heart of Mr. Romney's actual proposal is a 20% rate cut for anyone who pays income taxes. This means, for example, that the 10% rate would fall to 8%, the 35% rate would fall to 28% and all the brackets in between would fall as well. The corporate tax would fall to 25% from 35%. ... "The Tax Policy Center also ignores the history of tax cutting. Every major marginal rate income tax cut of the last 50 years-1964, 1981, 1986 and 2003-was followed by an unexpectedly large increase in tax revenues... and a more progressive tax code-i.e., the share of taxes paid by the richest 1% rose. "For example, from 1980 to 2007, three tax rate cuts brought the highest marginal tax rate to 35% from 70%. ...With the rate down to 35% in 2008, the share of taxes paid by the rich doubled to 40%. ... "So on four separate occasions what TPC says is 'mathematically impossible'-cutting tax rates and making the tax system more progressive-actually happened. Hats off to the scholars at TPC: Their study manages to claim that what happens in real life can't happen in theory."
Primary Recap Several states held primaries yesterday and the results are good news for conservatives. Voters in Kansas sent an unmistakable message to the establishment last night by replacing as many as eight moderate incumbent state senators with more conservative challengers. In Michigan, the GOP Senate primary was a battle between two conservatives and former Rep. Pete Hoekstra emerged victorious. Though he faces a tough battle to unseat a liberal Democrat, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee understands well the threat we face from Islamofascism. If there were ever any doubt about the need for voter ID laws, consider this. According to a Detroit CBS station, a number of individuals left polling locations yesterday without voting after refusing to check a box confirming they were in fact citizens. Left-wing "civil liberties groups" are complaining that the question attempts to "discourage people from voting." Sorry, but it's not a trick question, and non-citizens should not be voting! In Missouri, Rep. Todd Akin emerged as the winner after a bruising three-way battle. All the major contenders were conservatives and had prominent supporters behind them. Rep. Akin has a 100% score with CWF. During his victory speech last night, Akin said, "This campaign is about reclaiming our godly values, rebuilding the American Dream, restoring the America that we love." And in Washington, CWF-endorsed candidate John Koster was the top vote-getter in a "jungle primary" for the First Congressional District. His Democrat opponent is a former Microsoft executive who spent more than $2 million of her own money in the primary. With your continued support, we will do everything we can to make sure we take back the White House and elect pro-family, pro-life conservatives like Pete Hoekstra, Todd Akin and John Koster to Congress in 90 days!

The Veepstakes as we head to the wire, Part Two
Posted: 08 Aug 2012 02:48 PM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
NBC News declares, "with a high degree of confidence that Mitt Romney's vice-presidential pick has largely come down to three men: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan." NBC News adds that "it's more than possible that Romney has already made up his mind."
I'm not sure how a list "largely" comes down to three men; the use of that term betrays lack of "a high degree of confidence." It's also unclear how the list can include three names if, as is "more than possible," the list actually includes just one.
Finally, I have confidence that NBC News has no special, reliable access to Romney's thinking in this matter.
This is not to deny that the three names mentioned aren't at or near the top of Romney's list. As I noted earlier today, there's a good chance that Romney will opt for the perceived safety of Portman or Pawlenty. Ryan is a tempting selection for other reasons, but Romney may deem Ryan too risky due to his leadership on Medicare reform.
|
The Veepstakes, as we head to the wire
Posted: 08 Aug 2012 11:21 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Karl Rove tells Fox News that Mitt Romney is "close to a decision" on a running mate. Rove predicts that the announcement will come next week, but adds that "it could come as early as Friday."
I'd be reasonably satisfied with any of the folks whose names I've seen on the "short lists" that get bandied about. That includes, in no particular order, Rob Portman, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, Paul Ryan, Tim Pawlenty, and Chris Christie. Each seems qualified to be president (that's the most important thing) and each would add something to the ticket.
Each also has some sort of "strike" against him. Portman was significant player in the Bush administration. Rubio apparently has associations in Florida out of which Team Obama might be able to make something. Jindal, it is said, gave a poor response to one of Obama's addresses to Congress (I didn't see it). Ryan can be targeted by Obama as wanting to end Medicare as we know it. Pawlenty was unimpressive during the presidential debates last year. Christie may be less conservative than the others.
These considerations are unlikely to be decisive; nor, in most cases, should they be. Romney needs to decide in the first instance whether he wants a relatively safe pick or someone who will liven things up. I've believed that he will opt for safety, which would favor Portman or Pawlenty. But perhaps, with the polls moving slightly in Obama's favor, Romney will heed those who say that he can't just rely on Obama's weaknesses to propel him to the presidency by default.
For what it's worth, I favor Bobby Jindal. He's been a successful governor now for almost five years. Before that, he served in the House for two terms, rising to the rank of House Assistant Majority Whip. Jindal also served in the first Bush administration as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation. This blend of experience distinguishes him from the rest of the field (as I've defined it), though in some cases not by much.
Jindal's conservative credentials are, to my knowledge, beyond legitimate dispute. And he articulates conservative principles effectively. He did so, for example, in a recent C-SPAN interview on the vital subject of education reform.
Finally, Jindal seems to combine the elements of "safety" and potential to liven things up better than the other contenders. Of course, Team Romney presumably has been vetting these guys for months, and thus knows far better than I do who actually is safe, who excels on the campaign trail, and who (if anyone) might win votes for the ticket.
Unfortunately for Jindal, it can't be argued that he would help Romney is any particular swing state (as, say, Rubio, Portman or Ryan might), and it's not clear that he would help with any sizeable voting block (as Rubio might with Hispanics). So I doubt that Jindal is at the top of Romney's list.
In any event, if Rove is right, all of this speculation will soon come to an end.

Poverty Kills
Posted: 08 Aug 2012 11:04 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
The Democrats are running a ludicrous television ad that claims Mitt Romney is to blame for the death of a woman from cancer, because years earlier her husband had been laid off by a company in which Bain Capital invested. The claim is, of course, outrageous. But Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute decided to take it seriously. If we start holding presidential candidates responsible for deaths, how does Barack Obama fare?
It is incontestable that increasing wealth also increases life expectancy. Likewise, if you make a country poorer, you will increase its mortality rate. (This is one of the reasons why environmental regulations that supposedly promote health are so often counterproductive.) There is actually a lot of academic work on the relationship between wealth and mortality, including a 1997 paper by just-departed Obama regulatory czar Cass Sunstein. So Mitchell does the math:
Obama's policies have dampened growth in the United States (according to data from the Congressional Budget Office and the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, actual GDP (in today's dollars) is $836.6 billion below potential GDP). ...
Looking over much of this research, it appears that $14 million is a reasonable middle-ground estimate of how much foregone income is associated with a needless death.
Now let's do some simple math to get an estimate of the total number of preventable deaths caused by the economy's sub-par performance during Obama's reign. Going by the lofty standards of Priorities USA super PAC, we'll call this number the "Obamanomics Death Toll."
So let's divide $836.6 billion (our earlier estimate of foregone growth) by $14 million and we get an estimate that Obama's policies have caused 59,757 deaths.
Dan is quick to say that it wouldn't be fair to hold Obama responsible for those 59,000 deaths. But there nevertheless is a serious point here. Under Obamanomics, more Americans are living in poverty than at any time in our history. Poverty, to paraphrase an old slogan, is harmful to children and other living things. Liberals often talk about money as though it were unimportant compared to the finer things in life. But in reality, as the data tell us, when you take away a person's money, you may be taking away his life.

Washington Post pushes Obama's bogus line on welfare reform
Posted: 08 Aug 2012 08:03 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
The White House is pushing back against Mitt Romney's claim that President Obama is dismantling federal welfare reform. The Department of Health and Human Services has announced that it will consider requests by states for waivers regarding work requirements for welfare recipients. Romney says that this will enable the federal government to take the "work' out of the popular "workfare" system put in place by President Clinton and a Republican Congress.
Team Obama contends that this is not true. Rather, says the administration, it is simply engaging in regulatory reform in response to states, including some governed by Republicans, for less paper work and more latitude in administering the program.
The Washington Post, in a story by Philip Rucker (a virtual member of Team Obama) and Bill Turque, buys the Obama defense in its entirety. Treating Bill Clinton as a non-partisan arbiter, the two Post-men note that the former president has rejected Romney's charge. Relying further on White House talking points, the Post tells us that Romney himself sought a waiver as governor of Massachusetts in 2005.
But Robert Rector, writing for NRO, demolishes the Obama/Washington Post defense. He notes that Obama's maneuver is not about accommodating states (except for those governed by liberals who wish to gut work requirements):
The Obama administration claims authority to overhaul every aspect of the TANF work provisions (section 407), including "definitions of work activities and engagement, specified limitations, verification procedures and the calculation of participation rates" - in other words, the whole work program. Sebelius's HHS bureaucracy declared the existing TANF law a blank slate on which it can write any policy it chooses. Because HHS granted itself total authority to change any aspect of the work standards, the agency will not be bound by its state-by-state waiver approach in the future.
(Emphasis added)
Moreover, "flexibility" for the states only works one way:
HHS has made it clear that it will not accept waivers for new conservative policies. The agency's guidance states that it will not approve policy initiatives that are "likely to reduce access to aid." Translation: HHS will oppose any policy that reduces welfare caseloads.
Team Obama touts a feature in its new policy under which states receiving a waiver must "commit that their proposals will move at least 20 percent more people from welfare to work compared [with] the state's prior performance." But Rector shows that this provision is virtually meaningless:
Liberals traditionally use sham "exit" statistics to pretend they are shrinking welfare, while in reality they're increasing it. Given the normal turnover rate in welfare programs, the easiest way to increase the number of individuals moving from "welfare to work" is to increase the number entering welfare in the first place. Bogus statistical ploys like these were the norm before the 1996 reform. TANF curtailed the use of sham measures of success and established meaningful standards: Participating in work activities meant actual work activities, not "bed rest" or "reading" or doing one hour of job search per month; reducing welfare dependence meant reducing caseloads. Now those standards are gone.
In sum, Romney is right - the Obama administration is gutting welfare reform. By doing so, it will advance Obama's longtime objective of spreading the wealth around.
Yet again, Obama has found a way to promote his left-wing agenda under the guise of pursuing mainstream goals - here, regulatory reform, of all things. It's a clever approach but one that would not have fooled the Washington Post were it interested in objective reporting, instead of helping Obama.
UPDATE: A reader who specializes in this issue and is well-positioned to understand what Obama has done provides the following analysis:
Ron Haskins [a former Republican House staffer who worked on the 1996 welfare reform legislation] is quoted in the Post piece supporting the waiver policy, because he thinks the Obama Administration actually wants to give states' additionally flexibility to move in innovative welfare policies. There is some (not necessarily persuasive) argument for giving states' additional flexibility - but only through a limited, statutory change with clear limits on the authority. The Administration has basically given itself, and any future Administration (i.e., post November for a possible second Obama Administration), the right to wipe out work requirements in the future.
The fact that Congress was not even consulted on this change kind of gives the game away. Had the Administration tried first to work with Congress on a limited statutory change and failed, then one could argue in good faith that the Administration isn't trying to gut the work requirements. The way they went about this though, makes it much more difficult to sustain that argument.

Another Chinese Export to the U.S.: Air Pollution
Posted: 08 Aug 2012 05:37 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Among the many of the EPA's extremist crusades worthy of a religious fanatic is its regulatory juggernaut against particulates (or "particle pollution" as EPA renamed it a few years ago). The epidemiology of particulates is stronger than for some other forms of air pollution toward which the EPA is ultimately moving toward a zero emission standards (such as ozone), but a closer look shows how unrealistic the EPA's goals have become.
The map below shows the western counties that are non-attainment areas for PM10 (particulates of 10 microns in size or smaller), and it shows a number of rural counties that don't meet the standard, but which are home to little or no industry at all. In other words, the sources of high particulate levels in these counties are entirely natural-dust blowing off the ground. Is the EPA going to require Inyo County, California, to install county-wide sprinklers to tamp down dust?
PM10 Non-Attainment Counties
This is prologue to an important new article in Science magazine last week entitled "Aerosols from Overseas Rival Domestic Emissions Over North America." The complete article is behind the subscriber firewall, but the abstract ably conveys the essence:
We estimate that the mass of aerosols arriving at North American shores from overseas is comparable with the total mass of particulates emitted domestically. Curbing domestic emissions of particulates and precursor gases, therefore, is not sufficient to mitigate aerosol impacts in North America. The imported contribution is dominated by dust leaving Asia, not by combustion-generated particles. Thus, even a reduction of industrial emissions of the emerging economies of Asia could be overwhelmed by an increase of dust emissions due to changes in meteorological conditions and potential desertification.
The implication is clear: the U.S. could move to zero emissions of particulate-forming aerosols, and still fail to attain the PM standards. Which means we will be imposing costs for little or no benefit (but that's a feature rather than a bug for EPA fanatics). Maybe, my pal Ken Green suggests, we should turn all of those windmills around and have them blow back against Asia.

Urge Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey: Reverse Pres. Obama's Amnesty & Work Permits; Pennsylvania needs those jobs
With more Americans unemployed at any time since the Great Depression, President Obama is making it easier for illegal aliens to take American jobs. That's right: With 20 million Americans having trouble finding work, President Obama's bypassed Congress to unilaterally give amnesty and work permits to 2-3 million illegal aliens currently in the United States. It means more job competition and wage depression for working class and fewer jobs for returning veterans and recent graduates.
If that's not bad enough, President Obama's amnesty and work permit incentivizes more illegal aliens to quickly cross the border into this country in the hopes of qualifying for the next amnesty, too. And, of course, it means rewarding those who broke the law. It all adds up to a desperate move by the President to get votes in an election year, despite the cost to the American worker.
The good news is that our democracy has checks and balance. President Obama's policy can be reversed if enough of us voice our concerns. Two of those check and balances are right here in Pennsylvania. They're our Senators. Please send our Senators the message below right now. They can reverse President Obama's amnesty and work permits for millions of illegal aliens. And save jobs for unemployed Americans, right here in Pennsylvania. This is a completely free service. There is no cost to you.
Dear Senators Casey and Toomey,
As you know, our nation is experiencing its most trying economic times since the Great Depression. Twenty million Americans are having trouble finding jobs and putting food on the table, many right here in Pennsylvania. That's why I was so confounded to recently hear that President Obama's bypassed Congress to unilaterally award amnesty and work permits to 2-3 million illegal aliens.
His unprecedented abuse of executive privilege will make it harder for people right here in Pennsylvania to find jobs. Recent college grads can't find jobs. Immigrants who settled here last year can't find jobs. So, why would the President want to make it easier for people here illegally to take American jobs? Why would we reward lawbreakers and incentivize more illegal immigration? The answer is simple and predictable: It's election year politics at its worst.
The United States gives new work permits to 1.5 million immigrants and other foreign workers each year--not including the illegal aliens. When our nation is trillions in debt and has a shortage of millions of jobs, there is simply no way to justify these numbers. Taxpayers end up subsidizing the Americans who lose their jobs because of immigration.
It has been said that during bad times, 'we the people' find out what kind of leaders we've elected. Here's your chance to show us your leadership skills. Please, take immediate action to reverse President Obama's amnesty and work permits for millions of illegal aliens. Unemployed Americans desperately need jobs, and they're depending on you.
Sincerely, (Your Name Will Appear Here).

Obama Denies Gutting Welfare Reform
The Obama Administration came out swinging against its critics on welfare reform yesterday, with Press Secretary Jay Carney saying the charge that the Administration gutted the successful 1996 reform's work requirements is "categorically false" and "blatantly dishonest." Even former President Bill Clinton, who signed the reform into law, came out parroting the Obama team's talking points and saying the charge was "not true." The Heritage Foundation's Robert Rector and Kiki Bradley first broke the story on July 12 that Obama's Health and Human Services Department (HHS) had rewritten the Clinton-era reform to undo the work requirements, in a move that legal experts Todd Gaziano and Robert Alt determined was patently illegal. The Administration's new argument has two parts: denying the Obama Administration's actions and claiming that Republican governors, including Mitt Romney, tried to do the same thing. In essence, "We did not do what you're saying, but even if we did, some Republicans did it, too." Both parts of this argument are easily debunked. Obama Administration Claim #1: We Didn't Gut Work Requirements Ever since the 1996 law passed, Democratic leaders have attempted (unsuccessfully) to repeal welfare's work standards, blocking reauthorization of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF) and attempting to weaken the requirements. Unable to eliminate "workfare" legislatively, the Obama HHS claimed authority to grant waivers that allow states to get around the work requirements. Humorously, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius now asserts that the Administration abolished the TANF work requirements to increase work. HHS now claims that states receiving a waiver must "commit that their proposals will move at least 20 percent more people from welfare to work compared to the state's prior performance." But given the normal turnover rate in welfare programs, the easiest way to increase the number of people moving from "welfare to work" is to increase the number entering welfare in the first place. Bogus statistical ploys like these were the norm before the 1996 reform. The law curtailed use of sham measures of success and established meaningful standards: Participating in work activities meant actual work activities, not "bed rest" or "reading" or doing one hour of job search per month; reducing welfare dependence meant reducing caseloads. Now those standards are gone. Obama's HHS claims authority to overhaul every aspect of the TANF work provisions (contained in section 407), including "definitions of work activities and engagement, specified limitations, verification procedures and the calculation of participation rates." In other words, the whole work program. Sebelius's HHS bureaucracy declared the existing TANF law a blank slate on which it can design any policy it chooses. Obama Administration Claim #2: Even If We Did, the Republicans Tried It, Too Though the Obama Administration is claiming it is not trying to get around the work requirements, it is also claiming that a group of Republican governors tried to do the same thing in 2005. Clinton also said in his statement yesterday that "the recently announced waiver policy was originally requested" by Republican governors. Heritage welfare expert Robert Rector addressed this claim back on July 19. As Rector explains:
But [the governors'] letter makes no mention at all of waiving work requirements under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. In fact, the legislation promoted in the letter-the Personal Responsibility and Individual Development for Everyone (PRIDE) Act-actually would have toughened the federal work standards. It proposed raising the mandatory participation rates imposed on states from 50 percent to 70 percent of the adult TANF caseload and increasing the hours of required work activity. The governors' letter actually contradicts the Administration's main argument: If the law has always permitted HHS to waive the work requirements, then why didn't the governors just request waivers from then-President George W. Bush? Why would legislation be needed? Two reasons: First, it has been clear for 15 years that the TANF law did not permit HHS to waive the work requirements. Second, the Republican governors were not seeking to waive the work requirements in the first place.
Obama's Evolution from Welfare to Work and Back President Obama had a convenient change of heart regarding welfare reform when it was time to run for President. In 1998, when he was an Illinois state senator, Obama said:
I was not a huge supporter of the federal plan that was signed in 1996. Having said that, I do think that there is a potential political opportunity that arose out of welfare reform. And that is to desegregate the welfare population-meaning the undeserving poor, black folks in cities, from the working poor-deserving, white, rural as well as suburban.
The same year, he reiterated that "the 1996 legislation I did not entirely agree with and probably would have voted against at the federal level." But in 2008, when he was running for President, Obama said he had changed his mind about welfare reform: "I was much more concerned 10 years ago when President Clinton initially signed the bill that this could have disastrous results....It had-it worked better than, I think, a lot of people anticipated. And, you know, one of the things that I am absolutely convinced of is that we have to work as a centerpiece of any social policy." One of his 2008 campaign ads touted "the Obama record: moved people from welfare to work" and promised that as President, he would "never forget the dignity that comes from work." This evolution is unsurprising, considering the vast majority of Americans favor requiring welfare recipients to work. President Obama has finally accomplished what Democrats have been trying to do for years. He has even gotten President Clinton to turn his back on one of the signature achievements of his Administration to give him political cover-which Clinton was quick to do. In 1996, Clinton had to compromise and allow the tough work requirements to get the legislation passed. Both Presidents have now revealed their true feelings about welfare-and there's no denying it.

Postal Service in Default: The Beginning of the End?
Last week, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) defaulted on $5.5 billion in payments to the Treasury for future retiree health benefits. That is no small sum, to be sure. But much to the dismay of the USPS-and the ire of taxpayers-it marks the first of several anticipated and potentially larger defaults in the months to come.

TSA Collective Bargaining Could Endanger Americans
Over Thanksgiving weekend of 2006, airport screeners in Toronto began meticulously searching every carry-on bag by hand. The delays caused security lines to pile up. Passengers began missing their flights en masse. To break the bottleneck, supervisors allowed 250,000 passengers to board their flights with "minimal or no screening." One Canadian security expert dryly observed, "If terrorists had known that in those three days that their baggage wasn't going to be searched, that would have been bad."

Yes, Federal Workers Are Overpaid
The Government Accountability Office's (GAO) report last week on federal and private-sector compensation showed that four recent studies agree: Federal compensation is higher than the private sector's.
Unlike the recent CBO paper on the same topic, the GAO did not crunch its own numbers or come to any firm conclusions. Instead, the watchdog agency summarized six recent studies that have addressed the issue, highlighting the methodological differences in each.

AUGUST 8, 2012 Keeping the Military from Voting in Ohio Numerous military veterans groups have expressed consternation over a recent lawsuit filed by Obama for America as well as the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party against the Ohio Secretary of State over early voting in Ohio. They are right to be concerned.
The lawsuit is over a series of election bills passed by the state legislature that imposed a deadline for early voting for most voters of the Friday before election day. This makes perfect sense, because it allows election officials time to update their records of who has voted to ensure no one who voted early is able to vote again on election day.
However, Ohio still allows the relatively small number of voters qualified under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) to vote early through the end of the day before the election. The essence of the Obama campaign's complaint is that providing any extra time to such a special class of voters is "arbitrary and capricious" and therefore a violation of the Equal Protection Clause. The lawsuit demands that all other voters be given the same extension.
UOCAVA is a federal law passed in 1986 that guarantees the right of members of the military and overseas American civilians to vote by absentee ballot in federal elections. It was passed because of the horrendously high disenfranchisement rate of military voters, which is caused by the unpredictability of military life and the long delays in overseas mail service, particularly in war zones like Afghanistan.
Regular voters have the ability to vote by absentee ballot in all states, and many also allow in-person early voting prior to election day. But civilian voters simply do not have the unforeseen problems faced by military voters.
Contrary to claims being made by the Obama campaign, there is no comparison between the average resident of Ohio who knows he may be on a business trip on election day, and therefore should vote by absentee ballot or vote early, and a Marine who is suddenly given orders to deploy.
Men and women in our armed forces have unique obstacles to exercising their right to vote because of military service. This is particularly true when one looks at the shockingly low participation rates of military voters. In 2008, when election turnout was the highest since the 1964 election at almost 62 percent, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission reported that only 5.5 percent of the eligible military and overseas voters under UOCAVA cast ballots that were counted. This compares unfavorably to historically low voter participation rates.
The Obama campaign is not just wrong on policy here-it is also wrong on the law. The courts have already held that it is not a violation of the Equal Protection Clause for states to treat UOCAVA voters differently than other voters.
Ohio has practical reasons to provide members of the military, many of whom put their lives on the line for us every day, extra time to vote. This is not arbitrary, capricious, or unfair to other voters. And it has a perfectly rational reason related to election administration to end early voting for other Ohio voters three days before election day. The courts should rule against Obama and the DNC to ensure that those who defend and serve will have every opportunity to vote in November. What are your thoughts on ensuring state voting laws serve military families? Read the rest and comment >>

Gibson Guitar v. USA: Bureaucrats Call the Tune
Gibson Guitar has bowed out of a fight with big government due to bullying by Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors. The company was strong-armed into paying a $300,000 fine, a $50,000 community service payment to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and forfeiting $260,000 in seizures of wood used to manufacture guitars. Essentially, the DOJ leveraged the unreasonable penalties of the Lacey Act to bully Gibson into making a large "donation" to their charity pick of the week. Read the rest of the story >>
