'Call Obama's bluff!'
Thomas Lifson
President Obama has now placed the documentary history of a presidential candidate on the table as a legitimate demand. His stooge Harry Reid has demanded 10 years of financial documentation from Mitt Romney. Wayne Root, who was Obama's class of '83 classmate at Columbia and a Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee, lays out very clearly how Mitt Romney can spring a trap on the Obama campaign's desperate gambit. From The Blaze:
Call Obama's bluff. Romney should call a press conference and issue a challenge in front of the nation. He should agree to release more of his tax returns, only if Obama unseals his college records. Simple and straight-forward. Mitt should ask "What could possibly be so embarrassing in your college records from 29 years ago that you are afraid to let America's voters see? If it's THAT bad, maybe it's something the voters ought to see." Suddenly the tables are turned. Now Obama is on the defensive. My bet is that Obama will never unseal his records because they contain information that could destroy his chances for re-election. Once this challenge is made public, my prediction is you'll never hear about Mitt's tax returns ever again.
Root then proceeds to lay out the unusual circumstances surrounding Obama's attendance at Columbia and the reasons to suspect that Obama got in and received financial support as a foreign student. One of the oddest questions about Obama's time there is how few people remember him. Root and Obama both majored in political science, and Root thought he knew all of his fellow majors. But he never heard of Obama back then. The Wall Street Journal telephoned a random 400 classmates and none of them remembered Obama. Yet somehow Obama got into Harvard Law School, without leaving so much as a footprint in the sand in the Columbia collective consciousness.
The sketchy outline provided by the campaign/media combine in 2008 simply does not bear scrutiny. The Obama Gang are a bunch of bullies. The Alinksy way is bullying. One thing about bullies is that they do not take a punch very well.

Obama's College Classmate: 'The Obama Scandal Is at Columbia'

Wayne Allyn Root is a former Libertarian vice presidential nominee. He now serves as Chairman of the Libertarian National Campaign Committee. He is the best-selling author of "The Conscience of a Libertarian: Empowering the Citizen Revolution with God, Guns, Gold & Tax Cuts." His web site: www.ROOTforAmerica.com
I am President Obama's classmate at Columbia University, Class of '83. I am also one of the most accurate Las Vegas oddsmakers and prognosticators. Accurate enough that I was awarded my own star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. And I smell something rotten in Denmark. Obama has a big skeleton in his closet. It's his college records. Call it "gut instinct" but my gut is almost always right. Obama has a secret hidden at Columbia- and it's a bad one that threatens to bring down his presidency. Gut instinct is how I've made my living for 29 years since graduating Columbia.
Obama and his infamous strategist David Axelrod understand how to play political hardball, the best it's ever been played. Team Obama has decided to distract America's voters by condemning Mitt Romney for not releasing enough years of his tax returns. It's the perfect cover. Obama knows the best defense is a bold offense. Just keep attacking Mitt and blaming him for secrecy and evasion, while accusing him of having a scandal that doesn't exist. Then ask followers like Senator Harry Reid to chase the lead. The U.S. Senate Majority Leader appears to now be making up stories out of thin air, about tax returns he knows nothing about. It's a cynical, brilliant, and vicious strategy. Make Romney defend, so he can't attack the real Obama scandal.
This is classic Axelrod. Obama has won several elections in his career by slandering his opponents and leaking sealed documents. Not only do these insinuations and leaks ruin the credibility and reputation of Obama's opponents, they keep them on the defensive and off Obama's trail of sealed documents.
By attacking Romney's tax records, Obama's socialist cabal creates a problem that doesn't exist. Is the U.S. Senate Majority Leader making up stories out of thin air? You decide. But the reason for this baseless attack is clear- make Romney defend, so not only is he "off message" but it helps the media ignore the real Obama scandal. My answer for Romney? Why are the college records, of a 51-year-old President of the United States, so important to keep secret? I think I know the answer. Read more:

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21
| | By Kelly OConnell
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.
I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development
The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.
A. Ramsar Convention (1971)
According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). Another site, Texans Against Agenda 21, also states that the seed agreement for Agenda 21 was Ramsar:

Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand and why it's so relevant to our country today:
Ask yourself: What would happen, if our producers disappear - Steve Jobs, Sergey Brin and other industrialists fall off the radar, their companies shuttered and their creative genius no longer powering America? The answer lies in Atlas Shrugged Part I.
For the millions around the world who have read Rand's books, for those curious about her controversial philosophy, and for the uninitiated, and skeptical - the film, which only covers the first third of the book, is an opportunity to view a faithful adaptation.
Ayn Rand was born in Russia in 1905. She witnessed the Russian revolution first hand. At age 20, she and her family received permission to leave the Soviet Union. She traveled to the United States to visit family and never left. In Russia, she obtained university degrees in philosophy and history. While growing up she became enamored with western films. She traveled to Hollywood, and on her second day there, she met and started working for Cecil B. DeMille. She started as a movie extra, worked in the wardrobe department, and eventually became a screenwriter. In 1957, she published Atlas Shrugged. It is the story of what happens when capitalism is confronted by an overbearing, overreaching, central government, much the same situation we have today. Ayn Rand's experience in the Soviet Union, her experience in the free market system, and her education culminated in the classic work to warn of the dangers of tyranny when government intrudes on society and stifles freedom. Her remarkable insight and warnings from over 50 years ago are surprisingly reflected in today's headlines. The novel Atlas Shrugged is over 1100 pages. The movie is to be released in 3 parts. Part 1 was released in April of 2011 and Part 2 will be released in October of 2012. The Ayn Rand Institute today still spreads the message of her philosophy of Objectivism which explores the concepts of objective reality, reason, self-interest, and capitalism. All of Ayn Rand's books are still in print. Atlas Shrugged is presented jointly by the West Chester Tea Party (in lieu of an August meeting) and the Chester County Patriots. |
Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Dear Friends,
We have 98 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.
If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent
nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.
We do not have to travel down this road. We can change the course. You can help steer America in the right direction.
If you want an America where free enterprise is respected and ObamaCare is repealed,
and not the other way, stay in the area this summer & fall . Volunteer at Republican Victory Centers.
Attend local events promoting our region's Republican Congressional candidates--including our tri-state Republican US Senate candidates--Tom Smith (PA), Joe Kyrillas (NJ), and Kevin Wade (DE).

Half price off 2013 Summit Registration until august 15th
Our seventh annual Washington Summit was our best to date. Never before have we been so warmly received by our nation's leaders in Washington. And never before have we had such an immediate impact. In fact, legislation we support to enhance U.S.-Israel security cooperation was passed even before our Summit was over!
Let's face it -- there's nothing like having thousands of pro-Israel Christians from every state in the Union in town to focus Congress on the need to stand with Israel!
As our delegates discovered, the very fact that they cared enough about Israel to travel all the way to Washington gave them immediate credibility, influence and favor with their members of Congress. Increasingly, Members of Congress and their staff are getting to know our members by name and are staying in touch with them after they return home.
Our DC summit is not a one-time event. It's an annual opportunity for you to become an influential spokesman for Israel in your community. We give you the training. We schedule your appointments. All you need to do is show up and stand up for Israel.
Whether or not you were able to join us this year, we pray that you'll plan on joining us next year. Our 2013 Washington Summit will be held on July 22- 24. While the trip is not inexpensive, making your decision to join us now will give you almost a full year to save up for this powerful experience.
We'd like to encourage you to plan ahead -- and help you save enough -- by providing you with additional savings if you make your decision soon. If you register for the 2013 Summit by August 15th, you will only have to pay half the full Summit price.
We pray that we will see you in Washington, D.C. July 22- 24, 2013.
May God Bless You and Those That You Love,

The PAOLI VICTORY CENTER is the location of our August 10th VF Patriots Mtg. This is a phone bank location with 15 phones in Ste. 300 of the DEPOT SHOPPES 21 Plank Avenue, Paoli, PA , behind the Burger King on Lancaster Ave. Salome Gasabile is the Victory Field Director here and she'd welcome you ANY time. Already 10 people have volunteered to work the phones that night, but MORE are needed to cover EVERY phone from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. and relieve each other for dinner breaks, etc. Peg Layden Phone Bank Chairman 610 644-6161 STOP the Smartmeter NOW Dear Patriots, Just to make you aware, Smartmeters are here. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off. Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them. Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. Do you want the department of energy monitoring your usage of electric via PECO and possibly turning off your electric and certain peak hours (as explained in this video). http://www.wfmz.com/news/news-regional-berks/Met-Ed-customers-seeing-red-over-green-program/-/121418/15203070/-/prtufy/-/index.html What you can do: Representative Reese from Westmoreland County has introduced two bills which are in the Consumer Affairs Committee. ONE BILL WOULD ALLOW FOR OPTING OUT OF GETTING A SMART METER THE OTHER BILL WOULD REQUIRE CONSUMER CONSENT BEFORE INFORMATION FROM THE METER COULD BE SHARED WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Please contact the people listed in the link and let them know that we want these bills brought to the floor for the vote. This is our local electric company being used for the UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). We need everyone's involvement so pass on to everyone you know. Let's make an effort to get this out of committee. http://www.repreese.com/NewsItem.aspx?NewsID=13371 http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/cteeInfo.cfm?cde=10&body=H Explanation of Smartmeters is in this link. It is a little long, but you need to see how the global market is taking over our liberties. http://www.freedomadvocates.org/video/watch/129_technocracy_sustainable_development_and_the_smart_grid/ By the way, PECO took 200 million in stimulus money in PA to implement the smartmeters. They are using taxpayers money to enslave us. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/10 Please contact state representatives immediately. Let's protect our properties rights. http://stopsmartmeters.org/how-you-can-stop-smart-meters/ I have contacted PECO and told them not to install a smartmeter on my house. I would suggest doing the same with your electric company. They need a loud outcry from the american people. I will also be putting this sticker on my meter. I will be editing the wording down below, but here it is. http://turn.org/downloads/TURN-Do-Not-Install-the-Smart-Meter.pdf?utm_source=turnweb&utm_medium=download-sign&utm_content=DIA%2Bpage&utm_campaign=smart-meter Blessings, Mark, Betty, Jeff, Joe & Michele VFP Steering Committee |

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Unions Retaliate Against Philly Construction Company
James Sherk and Stephanie Jaczkowski
August 6, 2012
Beaten workers. Blocked deliveries. Late-night vandalism. The news surrounding the Goldtex construction project in Philadelphia reads like a script for The Sopranos. What is going on?
In early March, Post Brothers Construction, owned by brothers Matt and Mike Pestronk, began converting a 10-story loft building into 163 apartments. They decided to hire non-union workers-in defiance of Philadelphia's construction trade unions, which control the city's market.
Post Brothers pays its employees well: $35-$45 an hour. But that is less than the union rate, and the jobs are going to non-union workers. So the union movement is trying to shut them down by any means necessary. They want to send the message that union members are the only source of labor in Philadelphia. Anything else is sponsored by "ruthless, irresponsible developers."

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. RedState Morning Briefing
For August 8, 2012
1. Barack Obama is a Murderer
The Obama supporting Super PAC Priorities USA yesterday introduced us to Joe Soptic. Mitt Romney killed his wife. Except it is complete and utter crap.
Mitt Romney and Bain Capital bought GST Steel at some point. Romney left day to day operations of Bain in 1999. Thereafter, Bain offered Joe Soptic a buy out and he refused. Eventually the steel plant went out of business and Joe went on the unemployment line. That happened in 2001.
In 2002 or 2003, Mrs. Soptic injured her rotator cuff and left her job. She lost her insurance. In 2006, she was diagnosed with cancer and died a few days later. It is a terrible tragedy that Mitt Romney had nothing to do with.
It seems Mr. Soptic chose poorly on the buy out offer, lost his job, and would prefer to blame Mitt Romney than anyone else. Priorities USA has set a new standard - Mitt Romney killed a woman, despite being removed from both time of death and decision making.
We need far less than the convoluted logic of Priorities USA to conclude that Barack Obama is a murderer.
He is covered in Brian Terry's blood.
2. Nine percent of Obama voters now support Romney
Gallup reports that 9 percent of 2008 Obama voters have switched and now support Romney, while only 5 percent of McCain voters support President Obama.
Worse for Obama, only 86 percent of voters who say they voted for Obama in 2008 are backing Obama again this year, while 92 percent of McCain voters are supporting Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
3. The Finance Committee's Special Interest Tax Extenders
Last week, with the help of Senator Orrin Hatch, the Senate Finance Committee voted to extend dozens of special interest tax preferences for green energy - preferences that are nothing more than subsidies and market distorters. Included in the $205 billion package is the Production Tax Credit, which subsidizes up to 80% of wind energy production. Score one for Big Wind!
4. Obama: The Gold Medalist in Debt Race
Well, Obama is approaching another milestone. In addition to breaching the $16 trillion debt mark, Obama will earn another gold medal in the Greek Olympics for fiscal insanity. According to CBO, we will definitely incur another $1 trillion debt this year, ensuring that Obama will become not only the only president to rack up a trillion dollar debt, but the only one to ever do so during every year of his tenure.

Give them two dining options: organicor Borlaug. Treat those who opt for "organic" to a small, misshapen carrot, explaining apologetically that that's all you can spare because organic food is so costly and land-expensive. HSBC and terrorist money laundering The CNN report below is no shock to us. HSBC is a leader in promoting sharia-compliant financial instruments. Such instruments, if truly sharia-compliant, require a percentage of their profits to be given as zakat to Muslim charities. Given how many Muslim charities in the past ten years have been linked to terrorism-financing, it is a virtual certainty that some portion of those zakat funds are ending up in the hands of terrorists.
HSBC lax in preventing money laundering by cartels, terrorists By James O'Toole @CNNMoney July 17, 2012: 1:42 PM ET http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/16/news/companies/hsbc-money-laundering/?iphoneemail HSBC executives testified at a hearing on Capitol Hill Tuesday. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Global banking giant HSBC failed to prevent billions of dollars worth of money transfers that Senate investigators believe were linked to drug cartels and terrorist groups, according to a report released Monday. The Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said London-based HSBC (HBC) failed to review thousands of suspicious transactions and properly vet clients over the past decade. Among other issues, the report notes that in 2007 and 2008, HSBC's Mexico unit shipped $7 billion in cash to the bank's U.S. affiliate, a volume of shipments that law enforcement officials said could reach that size "only if they included illegal drug proceeds." HSBC Mexico had a number of high-profile clients linked to drug trafficking, the report says, as well as "a huge backlog of accounts marked for closure due to suspicious activity, but whose closures were delayed." The report also found that HSBC worked extensively with Saudi Arabia's Al Rajhi Bank, some owners of which have been linked to terrorism financing, according to a CIA report quoted by the subcommittee. Some evidence suggests Al Rajhi's "key founder" was "an early financial benefactor of al Qaeda," the report says. HSBC's U.S. affiliate supplied Al Rajhi with nearly $1 billion worth of U.S. banknotes up to 2010, and also worked with two banks in Bangladesh that some evidence links to terrorism financing as well. "From an oversight perspective, the failure of accountability here is dramatic," said Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the subcommittee. The Department of Justice is also investigating HSBC over the issue. A DOJ spokeswoman declined to comment, citing the ongoing probe. Wall Street's latest sucker: Your hometown The report also said HSBC's U.S. affiliate handled nearly 25,000 transactions involving Iran between 2001 and 2007, despite U.S. sanctions against the country. Other HSBC affiliates making transfers to the U.S. frequently stripped information from the transactions that linked them to Iran in order to evade scrutiny. Some HSBC executives in the U.S. were aware of this practice as far back as 2001, the report says. An outside review commissioned by HSBC found nearly $20 billion worth of transactions between 2001 and 2007 that may have been subject to U.S. sanctions. The report came ahead of a hearing by the Senate subcommittee Tuesday that featured testimony from HSBC executives and government officials from the Treasury Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Regulators also came in for criticism in the report -- in particular, the OCC, HSBC's primary overseer. The subcommittee said the OCC allowed HSBC's anti-money laundering deficiencies "to fester for years" before finally taking action in 2010, requiring the bank to improve its internal controls. "Its record of enforcement at HSBC resembles a lapdog rather than the watchdog that we sorely need," Sen. Tom Coburn, the subcommittee's ranking member, said Tuesday. HSBC said in a statement ahead of the hearing that it "takes compliance with the law, wherever it operates, very seriously." "We will acknowledge that, in the past, we have sometimes failed to meet the standards that regulators and customers expect," HSBC said. "We believe that this case history will provide important lessons for the whole industry in seeking to prevent illicit actors entering the global financial system." The bank added that it has beefed up its compliance efforts over the past year, increasing its due diligence requirements for affiliates and devoting more resources to the issue. Speaking at the hearing, HSBC compliance head David Bagley said he planned to step down as part of the reform process, although he will remain at the firm in a different capacity. The Senate subcommittee noted that HSBC was "fully cooperative" with the investigation, providing documents from around the world beyond what was legally required.

The Middle Eastern Time Bomb
Four years of President Obama's foreign policy are having their full effect. After squandering time in sham "negotiations" with Iran and Palestine and abandoning Iraq to al-Qaeda, the President has made many situations more difficult-and urgent. Iran is testing its ballistic missiles. We cannot afford to waste any more time. After the President downplayed a military option for more than three years, recent pressures-both practical and political-have caused the Obama Administration to become more hawkish on the Iran nuclear issue in recent weeks. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, in Israel on a Middle East tour last week, called for international leaders to keep "maximum pressure" on Iran and warned that the United States "will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, period." As Heritage's James Phillips notes:
The Administration's tougher rhetoric is in part a reflection of the fact that Iran has shrugged off international sanctions, refused to negotiate an acceptable resolution of the nuclear impasse, and continues to stockpile enriched uranium at an accelerating rate. ...Although the Administration has been quick to take credit for stronger sanctions on Iran, much of the impetus for sanctions has come from Congress, which has passed sanctions legislation by huge bipartisan majorities, sometimes over the objections of the Administration.
Congress, and slowly the Administration, is recognizing that the U.S. should broaden and deepen its cooperation with Israel on missile defense. We must share the costs of trying to make up the lost time when missile defenses were not pursued as a matter of policy. In a new Heritage paper, Baker Spring lays out specifics for this cooperation and its funding. He notes that there is "strong bipartisan congressional support in favor of providing significantly more money for U.S.-Israeli missile defense cooperation than the Obama Administration originally proposed." Spring explains that the Administration must get past its outdated view of building up defense:
...strategic defenses generally, and missile defenses in particular, are essential contributors to a robust deterrence posture. This is a sharp departure from the prevailing Cold War view that strategic defenses were at best worthless and at worst destabilizing.
Under Obama's leadership, America's position in the Middle East has weakened considerably. We were unprepared for the "Arab Spring" uprisings, and the President's response has been dangerously indecisive. For example, he continues to champion a Palestinian state while denouncing the current Syrian state-and the two are eerily similar. If Palestine were a state, it would be another corrupt enemy of Israel, our most important ally in the region, and would be a state sponsor of terrorism like Syria. While the Administration dithers on its Syria position, a growing Islamist extremist presence in that country presents the danger of an extremist dictatorship that becomes a base for international terrorism. After abruptly pulling out of Iraq, the President must address a resurgence of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) now threatening to attack the United States. An AQI leader has warned Americans: "You will soon witness how attacks will resound in the heart of your land, because our war with you has now started." Several associates of the terrorist group have been arrested inside the U.S. and Canada in the last two years. Sanctions and strong words are no longer enough. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that time is running out for international efforts to end Iran's nuclear defiance through diplomacy. Netanyahu said, "Things that affect our fate, our very existence, we don't entrust to others-not even to our best friends." President Obama would do well to follow Netanyahu's philosophy. The U.S. should commit to deploying the missile defense arsenal necessary to protect American interests both at home and abroad. A month ago, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz sat down with the host of a Jewish television channel and could not name any reason for Jews to vote for Obama except for his support for abortion. Which is to say that the favorite muppet of the Democratic Party could not think of any reason to support B.O. except a mutual commitment that fewer Jews be born. It is a little-known fact that Margaret Sanger, that pioneer of eugenic solutions to "racial, political, and social problems", began by targeting Jews, opening her first center in Brownsville, Brooklyn, complete with Yiddish and Italian flyers, aiming for the two immigrant groups whose high reproduction rates were considered a social problem. Abortion as a Liberal Jewish value has been a stunning success. In New York City, where Sanger first set up shop, 74 percent of all Jewish children are members of the traditionalist Orthodox religious group. Liberal Jews are already panicking over the prospect of a future Jewish population in New York City that is staunchly conservative and religious. A recent survey of New York City Jews also shows a nearly even split between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. 46 percent of New York Jews are planning to vote against Obama, and a majority of New York City Jews think that Romney would be better at fixing the economy than B.O. But it is only to be expected that the group for whom abortion isn't a Jewish value would come to outnumber the group for whom abortion is a Jewish value. The problem with values is that you have to live with their consequences. When your values dictate that terrorists deserve all the protections of the civilian justice system, then you have to be ready to live with the explosions. If your values dictate minimal population growth, then you have to accept the consequences of extinction. Values that are contrary to survival carry their own natural cost. And when your values are at odds with your interests, then your values might as well be an open window, a loaded revolver or a dose of strychnine. Liberal Jews like to talk about Jewish values rather than Jewish interests, because their values are incompatible with Jewish interests-- even as a matter of simple survival. The usual liberal grab bag of values that are represented by the Jewish hand puppets of liberalism, like Wasserman-Schultz, aren't just alien, they threaten the basic survival of the Jewish People.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, often described as a "rock star" in the Republican Party, has finally addressed the criticism of his courtship of Islamists. On July 24, Christie held an Iftar dinner at the Governor's Mansion, attended by Imam Mohammad Qatanani, a Hamas-linked cleric whose deportation is sought by the Department of Homeland Security. Christie reiterated his support for Qatanani and made the case to his Muslim audience that he is their ally by ridiculing the "bigots" attacking him.
Christie opens by talking about the attacks on "our relationship" (between him and, as he would characterize it, the Muslim community of N.J.) that show a "gaze of intolerance that's going around our country that is disturbing." You can watch the entire speech on YouTube: CLICK HERE.
He mocked his critics, saying "You'll all be fascinated to learn that in many publications around the country, I'm called an Islamist." No one ever said he is an Islamist himself and only a handful of writers have covered the controversy, including myself,, the Investigative Project on Terrorism, Dr. Daniel Pipes, Robert Spencer and my fellow N.J. resident, Andrew McCarthy.
Christie blatantly accused us of having anti-Muslim motivations. "These are the kind of red herrings that people put up who are bigots, who want to judge people based upon their religious beliefs, want to judge people with a broad brush," he said.
He stood by his support for Imam Qatanani, pointing out that he was in attendance and "I'm glad to have you here." He called him a "friend" that "has attempted to be a force for good in his community."
To prove to his audience that he is their ally against "Islamophobia," though he didn't use that exact word, he cited the controversies surrounding three of his actions: His support for Qatanani, his nomination of Sohail Mohammed as a Superior Court Judge and how he stood against the NYPD's intelligence-gathering operations in his state. Let's address these cases one-by-one.
Imam Mohammad Qatanani
The story begins in 1993. The Israelis detained Qatanani for three months because they believed he was working with the Hamas terrorist group, partially because his brother-in-law was a Hamas leader in the West Bank. He told the Israelis that he had been a member of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood but left in 1991 because of time constraints, not over any ideological split. He admitted to being a member of Hamas as part of a plea bargain and was released.

Reflecting an apparent systemic failure, steadily burgeoning evidence (here, here, here, here) indicates that one of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's closest aides, Huma Abedin, despite Ms. Clinton's protestation, was inadequately vetted for either family, or personal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Diligent, opensourceinvestigation has already uncovered and documented numerous alarming connections. One can reasonably infer that a serious, formal Congressional investigation of the overall extent of Muslim Brotherhood influence operations-as requested by Representatives Bachmann, Gohmert, Franks, Westmoreland, and Rooney-might yield even more disturbing findings.
Pending these sorely needed Congressional inquiries-replete with their probing investigative tools (i.e., subpoena power, and access to classified materials)-much can still be gleaned from the public record. For example, over the past 33 years, Huma Abedin's family has been responsible for the editorial production of the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMMA)'s academic journal (known as Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs. Journal, from 1979-1995, and Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs [JMMA], from 1996 till now), starting with family patriarch Syed Z. Abedin's, and Huma's mother, Saleha Abedin's, founding involvement since 1979, and subsequently joined by Huma's brother Hassan Abedin (1996 to present, Huma herself (1996 to 2008), and Huma's sister, Heba (married name Khalid, or Khaled; 2002 to present).
The following analysis of this IMMA journal's foundational origins, guiding editorial board membership, and Weltanschauung-most appositely, at present-confirms that the Abedin family "academic" journal is a thinly veiled mouthpiece for the Muslim Brotherhood's Sharia-supremacist agenda.
The Institute for Muslim Minority Affairs: Origins and Guiding Relationships
Syed Abedin, in the inaugural edition of the IMMA journal, gives effusive tributes to his IMMA co-founders, Dr. Abdullah Omar Nasseef, Chairman of the IMMA, and IMMA Executive Director, Dr. Ahmad Bahafzallah:
Finally, we would like to express our deep appreciation to appreciation to His Eminence, Dr. Abdullah O. Nasseef, President, King Abdulaziz University, for his continued guidance, support and encouragement. Dr. Ahmad Bahafzallah. Director of the Institute, and Secretary-General World Assembly of Muslim Youth, has been, as always, most unstinting in his help and cooperation.
During his tenure Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, in July, 1988, Naseef also created the Rabita Trust, and became its chairman. On October 12, 2001, then President George W. Bush's Executive Order named Rabita Trust as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity, and the US Treasury Department froze its assets, while Naseef was still serving as the Trust's chairman.

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of man?" So began the introduction to one of the most popular radio dramas of the early 20th century. Later featured as a masked film hero dressed in black, "The Shadow" used his villainous traits to fight evil. The plot to each story played out to an announcer's sinister voice and ominous laugh. It was an eerie mix for listeners -- for while the hero fought for good, his character gave rise to a lingering air of being sinister. Nonetheless, listeners came to understand the hero sought to eliminate a hidden evil lurking within. The June 13 request to U.S. inspectors general of various federal agencies for an inquiry of the Muslim Brotherhood's reach into the halls of U.S. government, signed by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and four other members of Congress, gives rise to a similar sinister air -- initially, at least. One person of concern identified by Bachmann is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's Muslim top aide, Huma Abedin. Abedin isn't accused of being a Muslim Brotherhood spy but a U.S. law compliance question is raised in granting her high level security access without fully investigating family members' linkage to the Muslim Brotherhood as she "has three family members -- her late father, her mother and her brother -- connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and/or organizations." The inquiry generated criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike in Abedin's defense. It is a shame the letter and responses have put the focus on Abedin -- for doing so only clouds the real issue of primary concern: Is the U.S. government under Muslim Brotherhood influence? To walk through the issue, we need ask and answer the following: 1. Is it of concern to U.S. citizens Muslim Brotherhood may be exercising influence over their government? 2. If yes, is it important to understand how the Muslim Brotherhood may be doing it? 3. If yes, isn't the best way to do so to examine Muslim Brotherhood's own statements concerning Muslim Brotherhood intentions concerning U.S. interests? An analysis of the third question answers the first two.

Obama Administration Paves the Way for Sharia Law
by William Bigelow6 Aug 2012450post a comment
The most terrifying danger Americans face from a second Barack Obama term isn't the economy, which is scary enough.
The most harrowing prospect is the Obama Administration's passivity in the face of attempts to introduce aspects of sharia law into our legal system. Now there is strong and open evidence of the Obama administration collaborating with Islamist activists to ensure the path toward sharia law is accelerated.
Just last week, Thomas Perez, Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division, was asked this question by Trent Franks (R-AZ), a member of the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution: "Will you tell us here today that this Administration's Department of Justice will never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion?"
Perez refused to answer. Four times.
And why would Franks target Perez?
Here's why:
Last October, at George Washington University, there was a meeting between DOJ officials, including Perez, and Islamist advocates against free speech. Representatives from the Islamist side included Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). The ISNA was an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding trial in 2008, as well as functioning as a Muslim Brotherhood Front. The leader of the Islamist attack was Sahar Aziz, an Egyptian-born American lawyer and Fellow at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, a Muslim advocacy group based in Michigan. At the meeting, the Islamists lobbied for:
- Cutbacks in U.S. anti-terror training
- Limits on the power of terrorism investigators
- Changes in agent training manuals
- A legal declaration that criticism of Islam in the United States should be considered racial discrimination
Aziz said that the word "Muslim" has become "racialized" and, once American criticism of Islam was silenced, the effect would be to "take [federal] money away from local police departments and fusion centers who are spying on all of us."

Obama Punishes The Military: Sues to Deny Their Vote
| |
|

The Obama campaign, aided by the Democratic Party, are suing to restrict the voting rights of military members during this important presidential election.
Continuing with his administration's tradition of suing U.S. states, on July 17th, the Obama for America Campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party filed suit in Ohio to strike down part of that state's law governing voting by members of the military. Right now citizens in Ohio can vote early, in-person, up until the Friday before the presidential election. Military members are given three extra days to do so, the reason being, their service may interfere with finding free time to go vote. But, Democrats say that is unfair and want to make it more difficult for members of our military to cast their vote proving that they care about power not our nation! They will do anything to keep Obama in the White House. This is their strategy for victory in November. Fax Congress and tell them to protect the military vote! The purpose of the three extra days given to military members is to take into account the demands on their time and hardships they may encounter while serving our country. However, the Democrats call these extra days "unconstitutional" and "arbitrary" with "no discernible rational basis." Democrats have fought ardently against voter I.D. laws, and they seem to have no problem allowing dead people and cartoon characters to cast a ballot-apparently they draw the line when it comes to our men and women in uniform. The National Defense Committee reports that [f]or each of the last three years, the Department of Defense's Federal Voting Assistance Program has reported to the President and Congress that the number one reason for military voter disenfranchisement is inadequate time to successfully vote. And, as reported in The Washington Post: By most accounts, the 2008 presidential election was a disaster for military voters. Thousands of them were disenfranchised when their absentee ballots were sent to wrong addresses, lost in the mail or mailed too close to the election for the ballot to be returned. To make matters worse, thousands of ballots were rejected by local election officials because the ballot - through no fault of the military voter - arrived after the election deadline. Fax Congress and tell them to protect the military vote! Perhaps Obama is worried because a May Gallup poll showed that 58 percent of veterans prefer Mitt Romney, compared to 34 percent who support Barack Obama. Also, a Military Times poll found that 44.3 percent of service members do not approve of Obama's job performance. Ohio is just the beginning; you can be sure Obama's campaign will take their fight to any state they feel threatens their re-election chances, and they will do whatever it takes to take the focus off Obama's failed presidency. Fifteen military groups have now fighting back against Obama's actions. A group including AMVETS, the National Guard Association of the United States, and the Association of the U.S. Army have asked a judge to dismiss Obama's lawsuit. They said, "Efforts to facilitate and maximize military voting should be welcomed, not viewed with constitutional suspicion." This latest desperate act by the Obama campaign must not go unnoticed. You can be sure the mainstream media will overlook Obama's lawsuit against Ohio; but we here at Conservative-Daily.com will not! Every vote is important to Obama-as long as it's cast for him. Americans will not stand for voter bullying, or sneaky, thug-like tactics when it comes to our elections. Obama's team feels they can quietly intimidate military voters without anyone noticing and cruise into four more years this November. We will not allow that to happen. Fax Congress now! Tony Adkins

Sharia law makes Islam much more than a religion. Its broad doctrine and application to non-Muslims make Islam a political entity, a government with goals of global dominion. Sunni Islam and Shia Islam both believe in a global ruler called caliph who will some day govern the world using Sharia law.more...
This report provides:
- Definition of Sharia law and relationship to Muslim faith.
- Countries governed by Sharia.
- Provisions of Sharia that conflict with American laws.
- Sharia violence espoused in American mosques.
- Sharia in America.
- What should our government's response be to Sharia?
Definition of Sharia law and relationship to Muslim faith.
Muslim is defined as "a worshipper of Islam." Islam is a religion articulated by the Qur'an. Sharia is the Islamic law which governs every aspect of a Muslims life. The instruction in the Quran and the examples set by the Islamic prophet Muhammad are the two main sources of inspiration for Islamic Sharia law.
|
|
|
According to the Encyclopedia of Islam "Within Muslim discourse, sharia designates the rules and regulations governing the lives of Muslims, derived in principle from the Kuran and hadith. In this sense, the word is closely associated with fiḳh [q.v.], which signifies academic discussion of divine law."
Sharia governs secular law, including crime, politics and economics as well as prescribing religious conduct and ritual. Sharia is the equivalent of federal and state statues combined with religious doctrine. In countries where Sharia is the political code it rules over the lives of Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Islamic judges interpret Sharia in countries and territories where it has official government status. Several countries are governed entirely by Islamic Sharia law. These countries will be described in the next section.
The multi-governing aspects of Sharia mean that Islam is much more than a religion. Islam is also a political entity with governmental code set by Sharia. Its broad doctrine and application to non-Muslims make Islam a political entity, a government with goals of global dominion.
Countries governed by Sharia.
The first system of government established in Islam and represented the leader's unity of the Muslim Ummah community was called Caliphate. Caliphate is the worldwide dominion by an Islamic sort of emperor called Caliph who is charged with enforcing Sharia law on all earthly inhabitants. Sunni Islam and Shia Islam both believe in a global ruler called caliph who will some day govern the world using Sharia law.
|
|
|
Sharia is the governing law or primary legislative doctrine in many countries including: Aceh, Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Chechnya, Egypt, Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, West Java and Yemen.
LONDON Dailymail.co.uk July 28, 2011 "Islamic extremists have launched a poster campaign across the UK proclaiming areas where Sharia law enforcement zones have been set up."
Communities have been bombarded with the posters, which read: 'You are entering a Sharia-controlled zone - Islamic rules enforced.' The bright yellow messages daubed on bus stops and street lamps have already been seen across certain boroughs in London and order that in the 'zone' there should be 'no gambling', 'no music or concerts', 'no porn or prostitution', 'no drugs or smoking' and 'no alcohol'.
Hate preacher Anjem Choudary has claimed responsibility for the scheme, saying he plans to flood specific Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the UK and 'put the seeds down for an Islamic Emirate in the long term'. In the past week, dozens of streets in the London boroughs of Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets and Newham have been targeted, raising fears that local residents may be intimidated or threatened for flouting 'Islamic rules'.
Choudary, who runs the banned militant group Islam4UK, warned: 'We now have hundreds if not thousands of people up and down the country willing to go out and patrol the streets for us and a print run of between 10,000 and 50,000 stickers ready for distribution.'

New Gallup survey shows Obama's winning margin has been wiped out by "switchers" to the GOP
Aug 07, 2012 06:12 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
A just released Gallup poll survey of voters who voted in 2008 presidential election and indicate they will vote again in November holds some bad news for Barack Obama. Among the questions asked of its respondents Gallup asked if the person being surveyed was planning to switch his/her Party vote to now support either Republican Mitt Romney or Democrat Barack Obama. Of those who had voted for John McCain in 2008 5% now supported Barack Obama. Of those original Obama supporters 9% reported their intention to vote for Republican Romney.
When this 9% switch is applied to Obama's raw popular vote total, the 5% switch is factored against John McCain's raw vote and both are compared the difference becomes a dead heat with an insignificant 17,000 vote lead for Obama.
The telling data in this report is the 4% undecided - which breaks against the incumbent to a high degree and the 11% that ... Continue Reading:New Gallup survey shows Obama's winning margin has been wiped out by "switchers" to the GOP

Camelot and King Arthur's Court, Knights of the Round Table, Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, the Holy Grail - our imaginations soar with history and legend immortalized by poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, born AUGUST 6, 1809.
Son of a clergyman, Tennyson recorded the courage of the British Cavalry in The Charge of the Light Brigade as they rode to their deaths fighting in Russia.
Honored by Queen Victoria as Poet-Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote:
"Cast all your cares on God; that anchor holds."
Tennyson wrote in Maud, 1855, part II, sec. iv, st. 3:
"Oh, Christ, that it were possible, For one short hour to see, The souls we loved, that they might tell us, What and where they be."
In 1905, U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Josiah Brewer referred to Tennyson in his lecture The Promise and Possibilities of the Future:

A Clearly identified source says Dingy Harry and his son Emaciated Rory are crooks
Aug 06, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Dingy Harry Reid has a problem. His hometown paper, the Las Vegas Review-Journal (LVRJ) is calling him out for his latest criminal caper. Reid has been trying to help his son Emaciated Rory steal from us and his scheme has been exposed by the LVRJ. Rory is a slimy lawyer who is trying to use Harry's influence to strong-arm the state of Nevada, its main electric power supplier and the federal government to line their pockets with phony "green job" money.
The Reid family business is political corruption. Like any patriarch Harry Reid is trying to use his family business to help one of his sons.
In 2010 when the SEIU was stealing an election to keep Dingy Harry in office, Rory who was "running" for Governor of Nevada was so hopeless (he lost by 12 points) not even the Democrat's voter fraud specialists could help him. So what could ... Continue Reading:A Clearly identified source says Dingy Harry and his son Emaciated Rory are crooks

President Dinkins and the Real Election of 2012 By Michael Walsh
President Obama's ineptitude and his manifest hostility toward the country he nominally leads are embarrassing to many Democrats, and the increasing likelihood that he will turn out to be a one-term wonder like the first (and so far, only) black mayor of New York, David Dinkins, is causing them to start looking beyond 2012.
Obama's Continuing Jewish Problem By Abraham H. Miller
A predicted near twenty-percent shift in the Jewish vote in critical states like Florida and Ohio can devastate Obama's electoral vote count. And the drastic shift among Jewish voters will only increase as the social stigma of voting GOP disappears.

Struggling Economy Means Obama's Plan Has Worked

"The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government." --Thomas Jefferson
Government
Signs of the economy
"Stocks loved [Friday's] jobs report, rising well over 200 points.... But there are a lot of negatives in this report. For one, the small-business household survey dropped 195,000. That's what drove the unemployment rate up to 8.3 percent. These two factors virtually cancel out the better-than-expected rise in nonfarm payrolls. By the way, the labor force shrunk by 150,000. The participation rate slipped to 63.7 percent. And the overall U-6 discouraged-workers unemployment rate increased to 15 percent. Average hourly earnings registered a slight 0.1 percent increase. But that only adds up to a 1.7 percent increase year-on-year, which is below the rising consumer price index. ... [B]usiness investment is still weak. So are real consumer incomes. And the unemployment rate continues to edge higher. All this springs from an economy growing no more than 1.5 to 2 percent. Tax and regulatory threats are everywhere. From Obamacare and the EPA and the NLRB on the regulatory side, to the failure to extend all the Bush tax cuts, it's a wonder businesses are investing and hiring at all -- especially small businesses, which may have stopped dead in recent months. My modest proposal for the worst economic recovery in modern times is threefold: Extend all the Bush tax cuts, slash the corporate tax rate, and approve and begin building the Keystone Pipeline. This is a supply-side proposal." --economist Larry Kudlow

What goes untaught - and possibly is covered up - is that socialist and communist ideas have produced the greatest evil in mankind's history. Ah, August! By Rich Galen One of the reasons Romney's fundraising is so much stronger than Obama's may be the difference in enthusiasm among their supporters. Voter enthusiasm, fund raising, head-to-head polling. These are the kinds of things we talk about in August, but it is only August and no one is voting for President this month. NEWSPAPER ROUNDUP:

Tuesday, August 7, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 91 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Click here to listen now. BREAKING NEWS: Washington is buzzing this afternoon with rumors, led by the Drudge Report, that General David Petraeus may be at the top of Mitt Romney's list of vice presidential running mates. It seems an unlikely choice for a variety of reasons, not the least of which are the general's own statements. In 2010, he said, "I will not, ever, run for political office, I can assure you." Targeting Non-Union Pensions Conservatives have long suspected that the auto bail out, which Barack Obama often brags about, was really a bailout of the auto unions -- especially their pension plans. Today there is more evidence to support that claim. The Daily Caller reports that new emails reveal Treasury Department officials were actively involved in the decision to terminate the pensions of 20,000 non-union Delphi workers, a GM company and major auto parts supplier. This could be a major scandal for the Obama Administration, as its officials have repeatedly insisted, even in sworn testimony, that the independent Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) made the decision to eliminate the Delphi pensions. According to federal law, only the PBGC can terminate pension programs. But the emails strongly suggest the decision was made by Treasury Department officials working for Secretary Timothy Geithner. In fact, one set of emails between representatives of the PBGC from early April 2009 reveals that they were "disinvited" from a meeting with members of the auto bailout task force by officials at the Treasury Department, and "It's for the best." Emails from early July 2009 make it clear that former Treasury official Matthew Feldman was also coordinating with the White House. The decision to terminate the 20,000 non-union Delphi pension plans was finalized a few weeks later. It's unlikely that Big Media will report this story. But once again we see that what the left accuses us of doing is often what it does. Obama and his liberal supporters have repeatedly accused Mitt Romney of killing jobs and hurting pensions. But it wasn't Mitt Romney who made the call to terminate 20,000 non-union Delphi pensions. We also see just how political this administration is. Ideology is everything. While the non-union workers lost their pensions, The Daily Caller writes that Delphi's union workers "saw their pensions topped off and made whole." And no doubt many of you will recall that when it came time to consolidate Chrysler dealerships, Republican-owned dealerships appeared to take the brunt of the closures, while well-connected Democrat dealerships were spared. Romney Hits Obama On Welfare Reform The Romney campaign released a new ad today taking Barack Obama to task for gutting the historic, bi-partisan and hugely popular 1996 welfare reform law. You can view the ad here. In a statement released to the media today, Romney policy adviser Lanhee Chen wrote: "This policy change undermines the very premise of welfare reform. ...And it is a kick in the gut to the millions of hard-working middle-class taxpayers struggling in today's economy, working more for less but always preferring self-sufficiency to a government handout." This is a good play by the Romney team. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 83% of Americans support a work requirement to receive welfare benefits. Obama constantly berates Republicans for refusing to work in a bi-partisan manner. But two of the most popular, bi-partisan pieces of legislation to come out of the 1990s were the welfare reform law and the Defense of Marriage Act. And Barack Obama is actively undermining both of them! Conventions Announce Speakers Over the past 48 hours the Republican National Committee has been rolling out its list of speakers at the upcoming national convention. Yesterday it announced that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, 2008 presidential nominee John McCain, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Florida Gov. Rick Scott, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will be speaking. Today, the RNC added former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum to the list. Democrats responded with the big news that Jimmy Carter would address the Democrat National Convention via a videotaped message. According to a statement from the DNC, "President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama's ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term." What more do you need to know about the two parties, friends? Jimmy Carter was the biggest failure in the White House prior to Barack Obama. He was an appeaser who welcomed the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Carter gave us the "misery index" and a four-year economic malaise. We're living through Jimmy Carter's second term!

Galston Un-Galled by Voter Fraud
Posted: 07 Aug 2012 03:06 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
The usually even-tempered William Galston-a smart liberal typically worth reading (especially if you're a liberal, as he's usually flagging liberal mistakes)-takes to the pages of The New Republic this week to disparage Republican efforts to promote more rigorous ID standards for voting. Galston inexplicably joins the MSNBC/ Leftist line that this effort is purely and simply an "odious" attempt at voter suppression:
Because there's such little evidence that these changes are needed to eliminate widespread voter fraud, it's hard to avoid the conclusion that many Republican legislators want to discourage voting among groups-especially minorities and the poor-that cast their ballots mainly for Democrats.
"Little evidence"?? Leave aside the dodge of "widespread" voter fraud; it doesn't need to be widespread-it only needs to be at the margin in a handful of precincts to tip a close election, such as Minnesota's 2008 Senate race. Let's check in with Byron York in today's Washington Examiner, noting the strong evidence that nearly 1,100 fraudulent ballots were cast in that Senate race, which was won by only 312 votes:
And so far, Fund and von Spakovsky report [in their new book Who's Counting?], 177 people have been convicted - not just accused, but convicted - of voting fraudulently in the Senate race. Another 66 are awaiting trial. "The numbers aren't greater," the authors say, "because the standard for convicting someone of voter fraud in Minnesota is that they must have been both ineligible, and 'knowingly' voted unlawfully." The accused can get off by claiming not to have known they did anything wrong.
Still, that's a total of 243 people either convicted of voter fraud or awaiting trial in an election that was decided by 312 votes. With 1,099 examples identified by Minnesota Majority, and with evidence suggesting that felons, when they do vote, strongly favor Democrats, it doesn't require a leap to suggest there might one day be proof that Al Franken was elected on the strength of voter fraud.
I'm disappointed with Galston, whom I know slightly and like quite a lot. And be sure to pick up a copy of Who's Counting?: How Fraudsters and Bureaucrats Put Your Vote at Risk, which ought to be one of the hot books of this political season.

(John Hinderaker)
If you follow our "Picks" closely-if you don't, you should-you may have noticed that we occasionally link to Videotruffle, a fun new site that features video clips in a number of categories, some of which are political. Videotruffle is run by friends of ours, and they asked us to put out a call for contributors:
URGENT: HELP WANTED
We're looking for a few good men and women to scour YouTube and the television dial each day to find breaking news video in connection with the presidential election. Think of it as a newswire-but instead of black and white text, we want to illustrate the election through living, moving video. We'll provide contributors with a way to post breaking news by extracting video from any TV channel, including MSNBC, CNN, and Fox. Everything from gaffes ("you didn't build that") to those little moments when MSM anchors let the veil of neutrality slip. These are the things we want to capture.
Can you stay on top of breaking news? Do you post the freshest viral video to your Twitter account before everyone else has seen it? Are you an expert and avid YouTuber? Email videotruffle@gmail.com and let us know if you'd like to help.
And don't forget C-Span, a treasure trove of largely unviewed video.

Obama administration footprints all over denial of pension benefits to non-union Delphi employees
Posted: 07 Aug 2012 10:20 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Delphi, a General Motors company, is one of the world's largest automotive parts manufacturers. When the government bailed out GM, 20,000 Delphi workers lost nearly their entire pensions. But Delphi employees who were members of the United Auto Workers union saw their pensions topped off and made whole.
The White House and Treasury Department have consistently maintained that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) independently made the decision to terminate the 20,000 non-union Delphi workers' pension plan. The PBGC is a federal government agency that handles private-sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries' interests.
But now, the Daily Caller has obtained emails showing that the U.S. Treasury Department, led by Timothy Geithner, was the driving force behind terminating the pensions of the 20,000 salaried Delphi retirees. According to the Daily Caller, the emails contradict testimony given to Congress by Former Treasury official Matthew Feldman and former White House auto czar Ron Bloom, both key members of the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry during the GM bailout.
The emails show that representativesof the PBGC were "uninvited" from meetings at which the Treasury Department considered what to do about the Delphi pensions. This, says the Daily Caller, is likely a violation of federal law (29 U.S.C. §1342).
Other emails show that the PBGC believed it needed to clear decisions and action plans through senior administration officials. This view seems to have been justified. One email describes how the Treasury Department's Feldman reported that he "has made progress discussing [a] proposal with a number of key folks in Treasury and at [the] White House, but he has not yet wrapped up his coordination." Feldman "indicated that there is an 8am call tomorrow that he'll use to close the communication-loop, and he's confident he'll have a fully-vetted Treasury view after that call."
And so on.
Perhaps the Romney campaign can produce an ad in which a former Delphi employee whose pension benefits disappeared complains that the Obama administration took his benefits, but not those of union workers, and then told Congress, under oath, that it had no involvement in the decision. That, of course, is the kind of ad Team Obama has used so effectively against Mitt Romney based on decisions by companies controlled by Bain Capital. The analogy seems pretty close.

Culture Matters, Supplemental
Posted: 07 Aug 2012 09:25 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Let me slip in behind Paul's series on culture to add a couple of thoughts, starting with noting that WaPo columnist Richard Cohen has slipped off the liberal reservation again. First, he does a blog post deploring Harry Reid's "gutter politics," even as most of the pro-Obama media remain resolutely silent about Reid's gutter politics:
In "The Godfather Part II," a senator from Nevada is portrayed as corrupt. His name is Pat Geary. In real life, a senator from Nevada is a jerk. His name is Harry Reid.
Good for Cohen. But then his Sunday column essentially says that Romney was right about Israel, Palestine, and the importance of culture:
The cultural difference between Israel and its Arab neighbors is so striking that you would think it beyond question. But when Mitt Romney attributed the gap between Israel's economic performance and the Palestinians' - "Culture makes all the difference," he said in Israel - the roof came down on him. PC police the world over raised a red card, giving him demerits for having the temerity to notice the obvious. Predictably, Saeb Erekat, chief Palestinian negotiator and a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, denounced the statement as "racist." It was, of course, just the opposite. . .
The book that Romney cited for his views on Arab culture, David S. Landes's "The Wealth and Poverty of Nations," goes further than I would in blaming the Arabs for their own difficulties, and it was written long before the Arab Spring. But it is a vigorously written attack on the sort of thinking that blames the West for all that ails the East and for disregarding indigenous cultural problems. Landes is particularly tough on the Muslim societies of the Middle East for the plight of women - a cultural phenomenon that does not exist in Islamic Asia but does, just for the record, among Israel's ultra-Orthodox Jews.
Romney could have been more diplomatic and eschewed a shorthand explanation of what ails Palestinian society - he might also have acknowledged Palestinian achievements - but he identified what are, indisputably, two problems. The first is that of culture. The second is the reluctance to discuss it.
David Landes
With allowance for the unnecessary caveats Cohen throws in to cover his left flank, not bad. I'll add that it is encouraging that Romney openly cites the David Landes book, which is one of my favorites, too. (I still recall wincing in 2008 when Romney said one of his favorite books was L. Ron Hubbard's Battlefield Earth. Great-just what a Mormon candidate needs to do to reassure conservative evangelicals: embrace a book by the founder of the worst religious cult in the nation. Good to know his taste in books has improved.)
Landes is, of course, politically incorrect. Here are a few samples from The Wealth and Poverty of Nations:
As the historical record shows, for the last thousand years, Europe (the West) has been the prime mover of development and modernity. . .
The historian may not erase or rewrite the past to make it more pleasing; and the economist, whose easy assumption that every country is destined to develop sooner or later, must be ready to look hard at failure. . .
The first [of other successful non-European societies], Islam, initially absorbed and developed the knowledge and ways of conquered peoples. By our period (roughly 1000 to 1500), Muslim rule went from the western end of the Mediterranean to the Indies. Before this, from about 750 to 1100, Islamic science and technology far surpassed those of Europe, which needed to recover its heritage and did so to some extent through contacts with Muslims in such frontiers as Spain. Islam was Europe's teacher.
Then something went wrong. Islamic science, denounced as heresy by religious zealots, bent under theological pressures for spiritual conformity.
Landes is not much nicer to China, where he says its long economic history "offers examples of technological oblivion and regression."

Dick Morris serves up wishful thinking, at best
Posted: 07 Aug 2012 07:47 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Lately, we've seen a fair amount of bad polling news, from the pro-Romney perspective. The most notable bad news comes from the two polls that Scott referred to earlier today: the CBS/NYT/Quinippiac poll of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida and the latest Rasmussen poll that has Obama leading nationally by 47-44. Romney had consistently been leading Obama in Rasmussen polls.
But don't worry. Dick Morris tells us that "the trend line is distinctly pro-Romney." Indeed, "the real story" is that "Romney is winning and expanding his lead each week." So ignore the polls that suggest otherwise. They are "at best, the product of incompetent polling and, at worst, the result of deliberate media bias." Look for Romney to carry Florida, Ohio, and Virginia and a share of the other states where Obama is below 50% of the vote, and thus to capture an electoral vote margin that approaches the one Obama enjoyed in 2008.
But didn't Dick Morris also tell us that the Republicans would pick up 100 or so House seats in the 2010 election? Didn't he predict that the Republicans would gain control of the Senate that same year? And didn't he write a book in 2005 called Condi vs. Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race?
Morris is right to this extent: not all polls are reliable and pro-Democrat media bias can spill over into political forecasting. But pro-Republican bias can have the same effect, and some in conservative media may have a personal agenda that drives them to make less than trustworthy forecasts. Whatever is the case with Dick Morris, his track record is full of over-the-top predictions that didn't pan out.
This doesn't mean that the election won't break Romney's way. That might well happen, once Romney ramps up his ad campaign and voters focus more single-mindedly on what traditionally matters most in these elections - how they are faring under the current regime.
But to pretend that the race is already breaking for Romney is wishful thinking, at best.
STEVE adds: Morris is the most overrated political analyst in the country, and it is a blot on Fox News that they have him on so often (though note that he is never included in Fox's most serious news show-Special Report. His absence from the panel there tells you a lot.)

Editor's Note: This Member Briefing was written by Heritage's summer interns, whose last day in our Young Leaders Program is August 10.
This summer, I had the opportunity to work as an intern in The Heritage Foundation membership office.
After graduating in May from Cedarville University with a degree in marketing, I decided to apply to Heritage to gain experience in a principled, policy-oriented organization. Knowing how competitive Heritage's internship program can be, I jumped at the chance for a position!
This year is an especially historical one in deciding what political philosophy will shape America's future, and it's been amazing to be at the heart of the discussion. Working in Washington during such a crucial summer, I've understood more than ever how essential it is for America to return to its founding principles. I'm excited now to start my professional life armed with the excellent education I've received at Heritage.

NATO should work to foster enduring and friendly relations with its countries outside of the North Atlantic region. After a tumultuous spring in North Africa and the Middle East, solid relationships in these regions are crucial to preserving security for America and our allies. Heritage Foundation expert Luke Coffey explains, "NATO already has structures in place to better cooperate with partners in this part of the world, but little has been done to enhance these relationships."
What do you think? Should NATO be more concerned with events happening in North Africa and the Middle East?
The farm bill is responsible for the dramatic increase and expansion of many government programs. Worse, the debate over its renewal is often confused by unrelated programs tacked onto the legislation, Heritage Action for America CEO Mike Needham and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) wrote last week in the Wall Street Journal.
For example, 80 percent of what has been marketed as a farm bill actually goes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps.
Do you think farm policy should be considered separately from food stamps and other programs?

Stayin' Alive in the U.K.
Olympic athletes tend to be a healthy lot. Lucky for them. Last week, Michael Phelps, Gabby Douglas and their ilk were going for gold in London and didn't need to spend time in a hospital. But outside the Games, millions of Britons were simply trying to survive the week. "Patients admitted as an emergency on the first Wednesday in August are six per cent more likely to die than on the previous Wednesday," reported Rebecca Smith in the London Telegraph. That's because, under British law, some 7,000 new doctors start their first job that day. "The changeover has been labeled as 'black Wednesday' or the 'killing season' because of the rise in deaths." The recent Olympic opening ceremonies "included a segment where dozens of skipping nurses and children in pajamas leaping acrobatically on massive hospital beds, with a large 'NHS' displayed," the Daily Mail reported. "It was a celebration of Britain's national health service, which has provided free taxpayer-funded health care to everyone in the country since its foundation after the Second World War." The NHS has its supporters, to be sure. One is historian A.N. Wilson. In his book, After the Victorians, he lauds the formation of the NHS, calling it "one of the most stupendous British inventions." Yet, he admits, "as soon as it was started, it was in a state of 'crisis,' and it has been in a state of crisis ever since." But not to worry. The British government is on the case. "Our aim is to ensure that all junior doctors spend a minimum of four working days shadowing the job that they will be taking up and completing trust-based induction," the Department of Health announced this year. "This will help them become familiar with their new working environment and include a handover of their clinical responsibilities." Four whole days? It's enough to calm a murmuring heart. This is what happens, of course, when government bureaucrats control health care. Problems arise. Bureaucrats (not doctors) attempt to solve those problems. The "solution" generates more problems. The cycle begins anew. The United States isn't as far gone as the U.K., where socialized medicine has led to long waiting lists and allegations of euthanasia being used to save money and free up beds. But we're getting there. On August 1st, a Health and Human Services mandate took effect under Obamacare. "Nearly all employers will be forced, at the beginning of their next health plan year, to pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization-regardless of moral or religious objections," notes Heritage's Sarah Torre. It's an early example of health care decisions being made by people at desks in Washington instead of by doctors, patients or providers. There will be more as Obamacare matures. Unless, of course, Americans nip it in the bud. Lawmakers can still repeal Obamacare and put a better system in its place. The key is to create a system that rewards the traditional American virtues of self-government and individual responsibility. Robert Moffit has already outlined the features of American-style health care system:portable coverage, personal control of money, competition for insurance, and choice in health care plans and providers.
In other words, let's do the exact opposite of what the NHS does. Let's give people more control of their health care decisions. That's the best way to create an efficient market that can control costs in the long run, without destroying the innovative health care system Americans rely on.
The British can now enjoy another full year before a new crop of doctors come on duty and put lives at risk. But they cannot avoid the dangers that are built into their socialist health care system. Let's not repeat their mistakes.
