Quote:
"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable ... the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."

You Can't Talk To Stupid About Guns GrassTopsUSA Exclusive Commentary By Don Feder 08/05/2012 A friend's father says: "You can't talk to stupid." When it comes to guns, there's nothing stupider than a liberal. It's impossible to have a rational conversation with the studiously illogical, the willfully ignorant and those who believe in a kind of sympathetic magic. It's like trying to explain to Cargo-cultists in remote parts of New Guinea that building crude imitations of aircraft won't result in supplies falling from the skies. James Holmes sits in a cell in the Arapahoe County House of Detention, with hair to match his jump-suit. On Monday, Holmes was charged with 24 counts of first-degree murder (two for each of his victims) and 116 counts of attempted murder for those he wounded or tried to kill. The Aurora, Colorado tragedy has become the latest excuse for the left to bleat for more restrictions on gun owners - a ban on so-called assault weapons (liberals are great at devising scary names that have nothing to do with a weapon's function) or a limitation on magazine size. Did we need to be told that Holmes was seeing a psychiatrist at the University of Colorado (before he dropped out of the neuroscience doctoral program) to know that he's just plain nuts - a citizen of Neptune, like Jared Lee Loughner, who killed 6 in Tucson and wounded Rep. Gabby Giffords in 2011? A judge found Loughner incompetent to stand trial based on medical evaluations - and the fact that his Napoleon hat kept slipping over his eyes, obscuring his vision. Liberals themselves suffer from a curious obsession when it comes to guns. After the Aurora' shootings, Barack Obama told the National Urban League, "I, like most Americans, believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms." Of course, the president believes no such thing. As a candidate for the Illinois state senate in 1996, Obama said he favored a ban on the "manufacture, sale and possession of handguns." John Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime," who taught at the University of Chicago at the same time as Obama, says that when they met, the future president told him, "I don't believe people should be able to own guns." He also doesn't believe people should be able to own property or have their own medical insurance. In an unguarded moment during the 2008 campaign, Obama told us what he thought of those who "cling to guns" - that they're religious fanatics, bigots and xenophobes. His wife informed us that America is such a dangerous place (due to gun-toting racists) that Barack could be shot stopping for gas. His attorney general believes "we have no right to possess guns" - unless we're running them to Mexican drug lords. After dissembling on the Second Amendment, Obama continued: "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals. That they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities." Obama has a habit of trying to justify his assaults on freedom by making it seem that he has the consent of his victims. When he gave his surreal you-didn't-build-it-speech, the president confidentially disclosed that a lot of businessmen agreed that they had nothing to do with their success and were actually embarrassed not to be paying more in taxes. Of course, most gun owners agree that criminals shouldn't have AK-47s -- also that terrorists shouldn't have tactical nuclear weapons and interns don't belong in the hands of Bill Clinton. Obama is either being disingenuous or knows as much about firearms as he does about fiscal policy. The Soviet AK-47 (a fully automatic weapon) is illegal in this country, with a few exceptions. One of the guns that was used in the Aurora movie massacre was an M&P 15, which bears a cosmetic resemblance to the military-issue M-16 but is a semiautomatic and no deadlier than many hunting rifles. Yes, we all agree that criminals shouldn't have fully automatic weapons, semiautomatics or flintlocks. Just as - and I know many Democrats agree with me - Barack Obama shouldn't have a credit card issued by the Treasury. But if there's ever been a theory massively disproved in the course of human history, it's that gun control laws will keep us safe from criminals and whack-jobs. If gun control worked, New York City, Detroit, Chicago and Washington D.C. would be as peaceful as Coral Gables, Florida on a Sunday morning. Between them, these municipal free-fire zones have 6% of the nation's population and 20% of its homicides annually. Their gun laws border on a ban. In fact, two had a ban, until the Supreme Court acknowledged that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right. In the Windy City (Obama's kinda town), as of mid-June, there were 228 murders this year, almost double the number of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan in the same period. If gun control worked, Anders Breivik wouldn't have killed 77 Norwegians in 2011, most with a firearm. Norway's gun laws are among the most stringent in the Western world. If there was a direct relationship between gun ownership and crime rates, America would be floating on a sea of blood. There are an estimated 80 to 90 million gun owners in the land of the free. Over the past 40 years, the number of guns in circulation has steadily grown. According to the FBI, in 2009, firearms sales at large retail outlets increased 40%. But nationally, from 1991 to 2010, the murder rate declined by 51% to a 47-year low; the total violent crime rate declined by 47%. Keep guns out of the hands of criminals? How? The way we keep drugs out of their hands? The way we keep cars out of the hands of drunk drivers? The way we keep matches out of the hands of pyromaniacs? The way we keep cameras out of the hands of morbidly-obese Marxist producers ("Bowling for Cholesterol")? Let the mentally ill have guns? That's crazy! But how to stop them? It's estimated that 26.2% of Americans have some diagnosable mental disorder in a given year (coincidentally, the same percentage of Americans call themselves liberals). For ages 18 and older, that's almost 60 million. What about those suffering from a serious mental illness, about 6% of the population, still 12 million to 15 million? Most have never been diagnosed. Will those who have be deterred by gun laws? A man who's planning to go to a movie house and randomly kill complete strangers, discovers that, because of a past diagnosis of schizophrenia, he can't buy a piece at a local gun shop. What does he do? Take a course in anger management? Try to connect with his inner-child? Take up knitting or backgammon? These are rhetorical questions. Liberals' blind faith in gun control is based on their belief in determinism and rejection of personal responsibility. Their views on crime control, gun control and control of the economy proceed from the same premise. The left is overwhelmingly opposed to capital punishment, three-strikes-and-you're-out laws, stand-your-ground laws, and minimum sentencing. They're responsible for the deinstitutionalization of mental patients in the '70s and the coddling of predators with Miranda and other get-out-of-jail-free cards in the '60s. The Hollywood left is responsible for the orgy of cinematic violence. Director Peter Bogdanovich says "Violence on the screen has increased tenfold. It's almost pornographic. ... I can see where it would drive somebody crazy." I can't. But guns don't put ideas in people heads - especially the empty heads of juveniles. Movies and television do. Liberals believe criminals aren't responsible for their actions. They came from deprived backgrounds. They're the product of bad schools. They were abused children. They have low IQs. They're addicts or alcoholics. Besides, the economy is in the dumps.
"Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke You gotta understand, It's just our bringin' up-ke That gets us out of hand. Our mothers all are junkies. Our fathers all are drunks. Golly Moses, natcherly we're punks!"
|
If the criminal isn't responsible for crime, what is? Simple - easy access to guns. Applied consistently, the same reasoning would hold that the Holocaust was due to easy access to gas chambers. The Rwandan genocide (500,000 to 1 million dead) may be attributed to easy access to machetes. The Fort Hood slaughter (when a Muslim officer shot and killed 13 of his fellow soldiers, while shouting, "Allahu Akabar"), easy access to Korans? Well, come to think of it. Liberals have transferred responsibility from humans to inanimate objects. The trigger pulls the finger. I once actually heard a babbling head say that a murder victim was killed "by a gun" - not "with" but "by a gun." If we could only do an early intervention with guns before they go bad (while they're still low-caliber) how many tragedies could be avoided? On July 20, Dylan Matthews, who writes for The Washington Post "Wonkblog" produced a little gem titled "The Philosophy of 'You didn't build that'" - a defense of Obama's it's-the-public-works-stupid comments. Let's say you did build the road that carries commerce, Matthews (a Harvard grad, like the president) mused, so what? Were you able to build it because your parents could afford to pay for an education that gave you the right cognitive skills, because your DNA gave you the ability to grasp engineering concepts, because an aunt gave you a book on civil engineering that first got you interested in the subject? And so, Matthews asks, "Do you deserve that money" that you would have earned from road-building? Matthews explains: "Political philosophers are sharply divided on these questions. Many do not like the idea that people 'deserve' things at all. For one thing, most people think that to deserve something, a person must have done something to deserve it. That implies that there are actions for which certain people are responsible." What a weird and fantastical notion. Once you reject personal responsibility - and the corresponding concept that certain people deserve certain things based on hard work, application, creativity and the like, or deserve other things, like life in prison, based on the evil they do - you end up with demands that the rich pay more in taxes, turning corporations over to unions, the abolition of capital punishment, the insanity defense and gun control. In short, you end up with Barack Hussein Obama - with whom a dialogue is futile.

Arthur Laffer: The Real 'Stimulus' Record
In country after country, increased government spending acted more like a depressant than a stimulant.
By ARTHUR B. LAFFER
Policy makers in Washington and other capitals around the world are debating whether to implement another round of stimulus spending to combat high unemployment and sputtering growth rates. But before they leap, they should take a good hard look at how that worked the first time around.
It worked miserably, as indicated by the table nearby, which shows increases in government spending from 2007 to 2009 and subsequent changes in GDP growth rates. Of the 34 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development nations, those with the largest spending spurts from 2007 to 2009 saw the least growth in GDP rates before and after the stimulus.
The four nations-Estonia, Ireland, the Slovak Republic and Finland-with the biggest stimulus programs had the steepest declines in growth. The United States was no different, with greater spending (up 7.3%) followed by far lower growth rates (down 8.4%).
| Still, the debate rages between those who espouse stimulus spending as a remedy for our weak economy and those who argue it is the cause of our current malaise. The numbers at stake aren't small. Federal government spending as a share of GDP rose to a high of 27.3% in 2009 from 21.4% in late 2007. This increase is virtually all stimulus spending, including add-ons to the agricultural and housing bills in 2007, the $600 per capita tax rebate in 2008, the TARP and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts, "cash for clunkers," additional mortgage relief subsidies and, of course, President Obama's $860 billion stimulus plan that promised to deliver unemployment rates below 6% by now. Stimulus spending over the past five years totaled more than $4 trillion.

A Brief History & Description of Agenda 21
| | By Kelly OConnell
Wednesday, August 1, 2012
Whether there is such a thing as a world plan for socialist domination must be answered by individuals pondering recent, sometimes strange confluences of world events. But if there were such a plan, would it appear in any clearer form that the United Nations Agenda 21 program?
Agenda 21 is a plank of UN policy encouraging the globe to embrace Sustainable Development, which conservatives understand as a code word for global Marxism:
Sustainable development sounds like a nice idea, right? It sounds nice, until you scratch the surface and find that Agenda 21 and sustainable development are really cloaked plans to impose the tenets of social justice/socialism on the world. At risk from Agenda 21; Private property ownership; Single-family homes; Private car ownership and individual travel choices; and Privately owned farms.
Agenda 21 remains to many, classic Marxism which must be rejected-as the Alabama legislature did recently.
I. Evolution of Agenda 21: Journey to Sustainable Development
The following is a brief evolution of Agenda 21, the UN program designed to help save the planet.
A. Ramsar Convention (1971)
According to the site for ANPED, the Northern Alliance for Sustainability, there were a number of International Environmental Agreements (IEA's) which came before Agenda 21. Of the 1131 listed Agreements and Modifications, ANPED singles out a handful as significant before Agenda 21, starting with the 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat). Another site, Texans Against Agenda 21, also states that the seed agreement for Agenda 21 was Ramsar:

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand and why it's so relevant to our country today:
Ask yourself: What would happen, if our producers disappear - Steve Jobs, Sergey Brin and other industrialists fall off the radar, their companies shuttered and their creative genius no longer powering America? The answer lies in Atlas Shrugged Part I.
For the millions around the world who have read Rand's books, for those curious about her controversial philosophy, and for the uninitiated, and skeptical - the film, which only covers the first third of the book, is an opportunity to view a faithful adaptation.
Ayn Rand was born in Russia in 1905. She witnessed the Russian revolution first hand. At age 20, she and her family received permission to leave the Soviet Union. She traveled to the United States to visit family and never left. In Russia, she obtained university degrees in philosophy and history. While growing up she became enamored with western films. She traveled to Hollywood, and on her second day there, she met and started working for Cecil B. DeMille. She started as a movie extra, worked in the wardrobe department, and eventually became a screenwriter. In 1957, she published Atlas Shrugged. It is the story of what happens when capitalism is confronted by an overbearing, overreaching, central government, much the same situation we have today. Ayn Rand's experience in the Soviet Union, her experience in the free market system, and her education culminated in the classic work to warn of the dangers of tyranny when government intrudes on society and stifles freedom. Her remarkable insight and warnings from over 50 years ago are surprisingly reflected in today's headlines. The novel Atlas Shrugged is over 1100 pages. The movie is to be released in 3 parts. Part 1 was released in April of 2011 and Part 2 will be released in October of 2012. The Ayn Rand Institute today still spreads the message of her philosophy of Objectivism which explores the concepts of objective reality, reason, self-interest, and capitalism. All of Ayn Rand's books are still in print. Atlas Shrugged is presented jointly by the West Chester Tea Party (in lieu of an August meeting) and the Chester County Patriots. |

Dear Friends,
We have 98 days left to stop the American Nation from becoming the Obama Nation.
If we give this president four more years, he will finish the job of remolding America into a hard-core keynesian state resembling some of the most economically dependent
nations in Europe--in particular--Greece and Spain.
We do not have to travel down this road. We can change the course. You can help steer America in the right direction.
If you want an America where free enterprise is respected and ObamaCare is repealed,
and not the other way, stay in the area this summer & fall . Volunteer at Republican Victory Centers.
Attend local events promoting our region's Republican Congressional candidates--including our tri-state Republican US Senate candidates--Tom Smith (PA), Joe Kyrillas (NJ), and Kevin Wade (DE).

Half price off 2013 Summit Registration until august 15th
Our seventh annual Washington Summit was our best to date. Never before have we been so warmly received by our nation's leaders in Washington. And never before have we had such an immediate impact. In fact, legislation we support to enhance U.S.-Israel security cooperation was passed even before our Summit was over!
Let's face it -- there's nothing like having thousands of pro-Israel Christians from every state in the Union in town to focus Congress on the need to stand with Israel!
As our delegates discovered, the very fact that they cared enough about Israel to travel all the way to Washington gave them immediate credibility, influence and favor with their members of Congress. Increasingly, Members of Congress and their staff are getting to know our members by name and are staying in touch with them after they return home.
Our DC summit is not a one-time event. It's an annual opportunity for you to become an influential spokesman for Israel in your community. We give you the training. We schedule your appointments. All you need to do is show up and stand up for Israel.
Whether or not you were able to join us this year, we pray that you'll plan on joining us next year. Our 2013 Washington Summit will be held on July 22- 24. While the trip is not inexpensive, making your decision to join us now will give you almost a full year to save up for this powerful experience.
We'd like to encourage you to plan ahead -- and help you save enough -- by providing you with additional savings if you make your decision soon. If you register for the 2013 Summit by August 15th, you will only have to pay half the full Summit price.
We pray that we will see you in Washington, D.C. July 22- 24, 2013.
May God Bless You and Those That You Love,

The PAOLI VICTORY CENTER is the location of our August 10th VF Patriots Mtg. This is a phone bank location with 15 phones in Ste. 300 of the DEPOT SHOPPES 21 Plank Avenue, Paoli, PA , behind the Burger King on Lancaster Ave. Salome Gasabile is the Victory Field Director here and she'd welcome you ANY time. Already 10 people have volunteered to work the phones that night, but MORE are needed to cover EVERY phone from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. and relieve each other for dinner breaks, etc. Peg Layden Phone Bank Chairman 610 644-6161 STOP the Smartmeter NOW Dear Patriots, Just to make you aware, Smartmeters are here. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off. Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them. Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. Do you want the department of energy monitoring your usage of electric via PECO and possibly turning off your electric and certain peak hours (as explained in this video). http://www.wfmz.com/news/news-regional-berks/Met-Ed-customers-seeing-red-over-green-program/-/121418/15203070/-/prtufy/-/index.html What you can do: Representative Reese from Westmoreland County has introduced two bills which are in the Consumer Affairs Committee. ONE BILL WOULD ALLOW FOR OPTING OUT OF GETTING A SMART METER THE OTHER BILL WOULD REQUIRE CONSUMER CONSENT BEFORE INFORMATION FROM THE METER COULD BE SHARED WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Please contact the people listed in the link and let them know that we want these bills brought to the floor for the vote. This is our local electric company being used for the UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). We need everyone's involvement so pass on to everyone you know. Let's make an effort to get this out of committee. http://www.repreese.com/NewsItem.aspx?NewsID=13371 http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/cteeInfo.cfm?cde=10&body=H Explanation of Smartmeters is in this link. It is a little long, but you need to see how the global market is taking over our liberties. http://www.freedomadvocates.org/video/watch/129_technocracy_sustainable_development_and_the_smart_grid/ By the way, PECO took 200 million in stimulus money in PA to implement the smartmeters. They are using taxpayers money to enslave us. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/10 Please contact state representatives immediately. Let's protect our properties rights. http://stopsmartmeters.org/how-you-can-stop-smart-meters/ I have contacted PECO and told them not to install a smartmeter on my house. I would suggest doing the same with your electric company. They need a loud outcry from the american people. I will also be putting this sticker on my meter. I will be editing the wording down below, but here it is. http://turn.org/downloads/TURN-Do-Not-Install-the-Smart-Meter.pdf?utm_source=turnweb&utm_medium=download-sign&utm_content=DIA%2Bpage&utm_campaign=smart-meter Blessings, Mark, Betty, Jeff, Joe & Michele VFP Steering Committee |

The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq
Jul 18th, 2012
Daniel Greenfield's new Freedom Center pamphlet, The Great Betrayal: Obama's Wars and the War in Iraq, is an effort to understand the politics of the "war on terror" which has now reached a final punctuation point with the U.S. decision to speed its withdrawal from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan (where success was once deemed so crucial to national security), and to practice an incoherent form of regime change in Libya while ignoring more serious threats in Syria and Iran.
The war on terror began, Greenfield shows, as an admirable bipartisan commitment soon after the tragedy of 9/11-an effort to transcend party lines not only to punish those who attacked our country but also to interrupt planning for further attacks and try to stop the international spread of the Islamic jihad behind the attacks. But the Democratic Party, with the honorable exception of a few individuals like Richard Gephardt and Joe Lieberman, turned its back on a war soon after authorizing it, and did so at a time when American troops were facing hostile enemy fire.
Although Senate Democrats on the intelligence oversight committee had been granted access to every piece of data available to the White House, they now accused President Bush of tricking them to secure their approval. In fact, their own about-face was entirely dictated by political considerations when a Sixties antiwar activist, Howard Dean, surged ahead in the Democratic primary polls and it appeared for a moment that Americans were on the side of retreat and capitulation.
Although regime change in Iraq had been official U.S. policy since Bill Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, Democratic senators such as John Kerry who only months earlier had supported the war effort now launched demoralizing attacks on the American commander-in-chief and his troops in the field, stigmatizing it as "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." If the truth was the first casualty of their war against the Bush administration, the second casualty was the principle of bi-partisanship that had guided foreign policy debates throughout the Cold War, the principle that "politics stops at the water's edge." Now partisan politics trumped security.
The unrestrained attacks on the Iraq War as illegal and unjustified went largely unanswered by Republicans who failed to call the Democratic saboteurs of the nation's war effort to account or to decry the risk their cynical attacks posed to American servicemen and women on the battlefield. As Greenfield demonstrates, the Democrats' partisanship had consequences not only in Iraq but elsewhere in the region: the paralysis that resulted from their "anti-war" campaign led straight to the destruction of Lebanon and the installation of a terrorist army, Hezbollah, there as a regime within a regime. And it emboldened an overtly Islamofascist regime in Iran not only to supply the IEDs responsible for most of our troop fatalities in Iraq but also to proceed with a nuclear program aimed directly at Israel and the West.
The Great Betrayal shows that Barack Obama's abandonment of Iraq is a betrayal of all the Americans and Iraqis who gave their lives to establish freedom in that country. And the result of his policies in Afghanistan has been as disastrous. While the President presented his rationale for pursuing war there as the pursuit of al-Qaeda, after abandoning his "surge" (which resulted in two thirds of all America's Afghan casualties there and the resurgence of the Taliban allies of al-Qaeda), he blithely prepared for withdrawal as if national objectives had been met.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

Knowing of your interest in government reform issues, I wanted to give you an update on some recent actions taking place down in Washington.
On July 31st, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 828, the Federal Employee Tax Accountability Act of 2011 by a vote of 263-114, with my support. This bill makes individuals with seriously delinquent tax debts, including existing federal employees, ineligible for federal employment. The Oversight and Government Reform Committee's report notes that at the end of FY 2009, 184,000 civilian federal employees owed more than $1.5 billion in taxes. I supported this bill because I firmly believe that all federal employees should be paying their taxes.
The House also voted on S. 679, the Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011. This bill would eliminate the requirement for Senate confirmation of 169 executive branch positions, with the goal of speeding up the confirmation process and alleviating some of the burden on the Senate. Although the bill passed, I did not support it because I felt it was a violation of the Constitutional separation of powers. In two Supreme Court cases, both Edmond v. United States (1997) and Ryder v. United States (1995), the court found that the Appointments Clause is "among the significant structural safeguards of the constitutional scheme" and is "a bulwark against one branch aggrandizing its power at the expense of another branch." Congress should not relinquish the Senate's constitutional duty to confirm Presidential appointments simply because the Senate cannot keep up with its duties. Lastly, I voted for S. 300, the Government Charge Card Abuse Prevention Act of 2011, which passed the House overwhelmingly. This bill requires federal agencies to improve their internal controls for government charge cards and to take the appropriate disciplinary actions against employees who abuse charge card privileges. It would also limit the number of government charge cards that each agency can issue.
I will continue to support key government reform legislation that creates a more transparent and accessible federal government while protecting the taxpayers. Please stay in contact with my office. If you have not already, feel free to take my short online survey at http://fitzpatrick.house.gov/survey and let me know the issues most important to you.
Sincerely,
Mike Fitzpatrick Member of Congress

On August 1 last Wednesday, gangs of intractable thoughtcriminals converged at Chick-Fil-A restaurants in an outright rebellion against progressive values. Our undercover agents could barely record everyone's license plates; they might have a better chance crossing a Nascar track during a race than getting across a Chick-Fil-A parking lot. The lines inside Chick-Fil-A were longer than at the DMV or at the unemployment offices, although not as long as the projected hospital lines upon the implementation of ObamaCare. The average line could be compared to that at an airport security checkpoint, except there was no TSA agent at the end of it. By force of habit, some of our agents joined the line thinking there was a politician giving away freebies. If only General Motors could find a way to attract as many customers without having to support traditional marriage! MORE >>

A "trusted contact" in Washington has sent us this photo, stating that the children in it are the illegitimate offspring of Senator Harry Reid and a young Occupy Movement girl he had intercourse with when she was only 15 years old. According to the source, Senator Harry Reid initially paid to keep her silent, but recently stopped all under-the-table child support.
The source claims that "Reid is going to use that money to purchase a plot of land in Nevada, on which he intends to build the most vile of Kapitalist shrines - a casino! A casino to suck up the money from the toiling masses - the money which could be put to better use by the State, for example, to finance the People's eternal struggle against the RethugliKKKans and their war on truth."
The seriousness of the charge calls for an investigation of this shameful offense. Just look at these babies. How could anyone be so heartless as to allow them to be born and then refuse to support them? The proof for this (we are told) can be found on Comrade Reid's computer.
Now, do we know that this is true? Comrade Reid has until this point been one of the People's greatest champions of Dear Leader's Great Struggle for total transformation of AmeriKKKa into a Glorious Socialist Utopian Paradise, proving himself many times over to be more equal than others. We must consider (for once) a chance for Comrade Reid to clear his name.
Harry Reid can still clear his name if he makes public the content of his computers and phone records for the past two years. A refusal will mean he is hiding something and should be arrested for statutory rape, pro-life offences, and failure to pay child support, which is a federal offense under the Deadbeat Parents Punishment Act.

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. RedState Morning Briefing
For August 7, 2012
1. In Wisconsin, Conservatives Should Rally for Mark Neumann
I have supported Mark Neumann's candidacy in the Wisconsin Senate race, but was also somewhat ambivalent about Eric Hovde. Above all else, I did not want to get in a situation where conservatives were divided and Tommy Thompson won.
Goal number one in Wisconsin must be to stop Tommy Thompson.
But it is time to set the ambivalence aside. With one week to go we should not mince words - if Eric Hovde is the nominee it is pretty doggone clear he will be returning home to Washington and dabble too much in the ways of Washington that conservatives are unanimously opposed to.
As this campaign enters its final week, there is no more need for clarity on Eric Hovde. He, like the other candidates, has a record and it is one conservatives should reject in favor of Mark Neumann's conservative record.
2. Retirement is Profitable for University of Colorado Regent Irene Griego
A top member of the University of Colorado Board of Regents is receiving a near six-figure paycheck in addition to being eligible for a six-figure pension for state employees, both paid for by Colorado taxpayers. Irene Griego, who was sworn in to her position as a regent in December of 2011, spent 38 years as a public educator prior to joining the board, according to her public biography. Griego's collection of full pension benefits and a near-six-figure salary raises questions about whether she is improperly "double-dipping" into state funds.
Griego worked for the Denver public school system for 18 years before moving to Jefferson County in 1989, where she worked as a community superintendent directly under district superintendent Cindy Stevenson. Griego's annual salary when she retired in 2009 totaled $136,923. Because she was 58-years-old at retirement, she was immediately eligible to receive at least 38 years worth of combined retirement benefits from the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA), the public pension fund for state and local employees.
3. Harry Reid's Pants Are on Fire
Doubtless you have all heard of Senator Reid's comments on July 31st that he's heard from a Bain investor that Romney hadn't paid any taxes for 10 years. Then, on August 2nd, he doubled down, even in absence of any actual evidence, and he repeated those allegations on the Senate floor. On August 3rd, he tripled down. I think the title from the HotAir post says it all: "My source on Romney's taxes is so incredibly credible that I won't say who he is,"...Rrright.
Politifact has finally weighed in on the subject, and it's not good for Reid.

August 6, 2012 The purge continues As we reported to you early this summer, groups like CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) are stepping up their efforts to purge any references to jihad, sharia, and the like, from anti-terrorism training materials and programs. The latest example of this comes from Tampa, Florida (see the Tampa Tribune story below, highlights added). In this instance, CAIR Florida is even attempting to suppress well-established historical facts. The Obama administration has already purged all references to radical Islam from its strategic threat assessments. Groups like CAIR and ISNA are doing everything they can to finish the job down to the local level of law enforcement.
Muslims seek instructor's ouster By RAY REYES | The Tampa Tribune http://www2.tbo.com/news/news/2012/jul/12/memeto1-muslims-seek-instructors-ouster-ar-429529/ TAMPA -- Local Muslims are asking for the removal of a state-contracted counter-terrorism instructor whom they say spreads false information about their religion and encourages law enforcement officers in Florida to racially profile people of the Islamic faith. The Council on American-Islamic Relations in Tampa sent a letter Tuesday to state officials, asking them to sever ties with instructor Sam Kharoba. The trainer's presentations are "full of inaccuracies, sweeping generalizations and stereotypes," the letter said. "He encourages law enforcement officers to view Muslims with distrust," said Hassan Shibly, executive director of CAIR in Tampa. "His training materials encourage law enforcement officers to profile and target Muslims." Kharoba's training manual says Islam favors war, not peace, and says countries with a 99-percent Muslim population are "ultimate Jihad-manufacturing societies," according to the council's letter. The council's claims, Kharoba said, are baseless. "CAIR's statements are manufactured distractions designed to shift blame onto the law enforcement agencies that are protecting the American people," Kharoba said. Kharoba owns a for-profit company called the Counter Terrorism Operations Center. His company was hired by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to offer the training sessions. The FDLE is reviewing CAIR's concerns, spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said. The department has "received positive feedback" from people taking Kharoba's courses, Plessinger said. The FDLE, which organizes several training sessions a year for state police officers, had to cancel a few classes in the spring because of a lack of participants, Plessinger said. One of the canceled sessions was to be taught by Kharoba. Shibly said Kharoba's manual and related presentations may have influenced local officers. People in Tampa's Muslim community have reached out to CAIR, saying they were harassed by Hillsborough County deputies, Shibly said. Deputies are not taught or encouraged to harass anyone, sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said. "Racial profiling is not condoned here," he said. No one in the Muslim-American community has contacted the sheriff's office to say they were targeted by deputies, McKinnon said. "But if they did, we'll take their complaints seriously and investigate," he said. The council's letter said Kharoba's training manual instructs police that the Islamic prophet Muhammad's teachings started as "peaceful and tolerant but later became radical and militant." [Editor's Note: This is historically accurate. CAIR is attempting to rewrite established historical facts-a common disinformation tactic used by Muslim Brotherhood-connected organizations like CAIR.] Kharoba also wrote that "every one of Osama bin Laden's speeches is theologically correct according to Islamic theology" and that bin Laden was "simply following the path and the mission that Prophet Muhammad started 1,429 years ago," the letter said. Shibly and other Muslim-Americans have denounced bin Laden. Ramzy Kilic, the council's former director, said bin Laden "hijacked the Islamic faith and was responsible for the anti-Muslim backlash since 9/11." Kharoba said Muslim police officers who enrolled in his course never complained. "Approximately 100 Muslim law enforcement officers attended our training classes over the past 10?years and none of these Muslim officers complained or provided any negative review of the material presented," Kharoba said. The Muslim officers, Kharoba said, agreed with the presentations, which "clearly demonstrates the factual accuracy of our material and the baseless position that the critics are taking in order to hinder law enforcement efforts to protect our citizens from extremists." The training manual, a copy of which was obtained by the council through a public records request, is titled "Understanding Islamic Theology: The Driving Force Behind Islamist Terrorism." A label on the cover reads, "Law Enforcement Sensitive, Do Not Distribute." McKinnon said deputies attended four classes taught by Kharoba from 2007 to 2009. Relevant, useful information in any seminar is absorbed into the sheriff's office's policy and procedures, he said. "But we'll censor anything that isn't appropriate," McKinnon said.

- 15 Egyptian Police Killed in Sinai Border Attack
Gunmen killed at least 15 Egyptian policemen and wounded 7 in an assault on a police station at the border between Egypt and Israel on Sunday, before seizing two military vehicles and attempting to storm the border with Israel. Israel said its aircraft had fired on one of the commandeered vehicles and that the other had exploded at the border crossing. No Israelis were hurt. (Reuters) See also IDF Foils Assault on Southern Border after Terrorists Kill 15 Egyptian Soldiers - Ilan Ben Zion Israel had advance intelligence on plans for an attack, IDF Spokesman Yoav Mordechai said. An Egyptian border official said the Rafah border terminal between Egypt and Gaza had been closed indefinitely. Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's office issued a statement saying, "Those who carried out this crime will pay dearly....There is no room for appeasing this treason, this aggression and criminality....The troops will totally control Sinai." (Times of Israel) See also Sinai Attack Proves Islamist Terrorists Are Targeting Egypt as Well - Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff The group that carried out Sunday's attack wanted first and foremost to cause mass casualties among Egyptian soldiers, apparently to deter soldiers from serving in the area. Striking Israel was apparently a secondary goal. Morsi, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, may have no choice but to join forces with the Egyptian military leadership in order to take on the terror groups in Sinai. It seems that Egyptian public opinion will demand action. (Ha'aretz) See also Egypt Hunts Sinai Terrorists; "We'll Strike Gaza If Needed" - Roi Kais One Egyptian military analyst said: "If we will be forced to strike Gaza, as Israel has, we will do it - if it is proven that those who committed the attack came from Gaza." If Israel says yes, it is actively allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to station more soldiers in a demilitarized zone. (Jerusalem Post)

Carbonite CEO learns a hard lesson about being played for a fool by George Soros
Aug 06, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Last week's Chick-fil-A appreciation day must have been painful to watch for David Friend the CEO that runs Carbonite a computer file backup service that was once the king of its industry.
Watching how well a business that is favored by the Right can do must have ground salt into the self- inflicted wound that is still plaguing Carbonite today.
On Saturday March 3, David Friend, the breast beating fool who is the CEO of Carbonite, decided he could not even wait until the following Monday to drop his company's advertising relationship with Rush Limbaugh. Bleating about Limbaugh having correctly characterized a young woman who wanted a Catholic university to pay for her contraception devices, Friend cited a desire for a "more civilized public discourse" as the reason for his action.
The truth was that Carbonite and a few other foolish advertisers were convinced to drop Limbaugh by Media Matters a George ... Continue Reading:Carbonite CEO learns a hard lesson about being played for a fool by George Soros

The first book printed in America was the Bay Psalm Book by John Eliot, who was baptized in England as an infant on AUGUST 5, 1604. Called "Apostle to the Indians," he sailed to America and preached his first sermon in the Algonquian language in 1646. He translated the Ten Commandments, Lord's Prayer and the Bible-the first to be printed in America, in 1663. In a 1674 census, 4,000 "Praying Indians" were in 14 self-ruling villages with houses, streets, bridges, and their own ministers. John Eliot wrote: "The Word of God is the perfect System of Laws to guide all moral actions of man." In A Brief Narrative, July 20, 1670, Eliot wrote: "These Indians being of kin to our Massachusetts Indians...received amongst them the light and love of the Truth...On a day of Fasting and Prayer, Elders were ordained... Congress proves Obama himself engineered $535 million taxpayer loss in Solyndra debacle
Aug 05, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
Though grudgingly provided and universally redacted, documents subpoenaed by Congress from the White House and the Office of Management and Budget now reveal that Barack Hussein Obama himself was responsible for manufacturing the loss of $535 million taxpayer dollars in the 2011 Solyndra bankruptcy.
In 2010, solar panel manufacturer Solyndra Inc. received $535 million in loan guarantees for "innovative technology" under the terms of Barack Obama's federal stimulus plan. The fact that a Price Waterhouse audit filed earlier that year with the SEC showed Solyndra had lost $558 million during its first 5 years in business, boasted negative cash flow, had no profitable years and featured a "seriously flawed" business model didn't seem to matter to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel who delighted Obama's left-wing, environmentalist supporters by choosing the company as the president's favorite green energy producer. (1)
But by early 2011, Solyndra was very much up against it. Even a new ... Continue Reading:Congress proves Obama himself engineered $535 million taxpayer loss in Solyndra debacle

Flashback: Democrats Worked Hard to Disqualify Overseas Military Ballots in 2000 Recount
|
|
by Mike Flynn
On Thursday, I broke the news that the Obama campaign had sued the state of Ohio over a provision which gave members of the military three extra days for early voting. The media and the left predictably pushed back aggressively that the Obama lawsuit wasn't intended to target votes of the military. Rather than taking them at their word, my colleague, Joel Pollak documented the sad recent history of Democrats working to suppress the military vote. Today, we bring you evidence, from 2000, of Democrats actively succeeding in disqualifying military ballots.
In 2000, the nation's politics hung in the balance of a recount fight in Florida. George W. Bush had beaten Al Gore by a few hundred votes in the seminal swing state, and Democrats went all-in to reverse this result and hand the presidency to Gore. One of the lawyers hired by the Democrats during the recount fight was Mark Herron, how drafted a memo detailing how to disqualify military absentee ballots. (Memo is below.) His work had an immediate affect, as recalled by Bill Sammon in 2001:

How the Obama Campaign/Media Alliance Works By Rich Baehr
How does the press help the Obama campaign neutralize Mitt Romney? There are several components to the approach here, but in essence it is to make the news story of each day whatever is the campaign's attack line on Romney.

After terrorizing the West for two generations, no one pays much attention to the Great Bear anymore. The latest unrest in Russia has merited a fraction of the headlines about the Arab Spring, Palestine or upset Muslims in Burma. The old journalistic guidelines used to be, "If it bleeds, it leads." The new journalistic guidelines are, "If it's not about Muslims, we don't care." But the events in Russia are highly educational, not in their absurd specifics involving a female punk band and overweight thugs beating up people in their street, but in the glorious spectacle of what happens when a government mafia starts running out of money and the economy that it has been feeding off can no longer nurture its numberless ranks of official and semi-official parasites. Most countries have their mafias, and by that I don't mean the jolly grunters who run numbers out of basements or break legs over interest rates that even banks can't charge. The government mafia is a web of mutual connections for mutual profit. Say Ivan wants a construction contract. So he talks to Alexei, who knows someone in politics who can get him that contract in exchange for a bribe. That someone is Boris, who owes his position in a ministry of something or other to his friendship with Anatoly back when they were both junior KGB thugs whose fathers were also in the same business. Ivan gives some money to Alexei, who takes a percentage and passes along the rest to Boris, who takes a percentage and passes it to Anatoly who ushers in Ivan to see Vladimir, who is the undersecretary to the deputy minister of construction, who then demands a bribe that is twice as large as the cost of construction, but that's okay because the bid is four times the cost of construction. This is obviously a very inefficient system. In the United States, Ivan would be named John, there would be only half as many people to see, and the bribe would be known as a campaign contribution. And this is also why the United States has fewer bribes and higher taxes, because we don't believe that government contracts should be handed out to unqualified people on the basis of bribes. We believe they should be handed out to unqualified people on the basis of race, sexual orientation or imaginary environmental crisis. Our versions of Boris, Anatoly and Vladimir still have to make money. Our version of Ivan runs an NGO dedicated to building clean energy windmills in Ghana or underwater electric cars to feed the hungry in Oslo. Boris and Anatoly didn't meet while badgering a frightened poet in a Lubyanka basement, but passing a joint at an anti-war rally that the KGB boys in the Lubyanka probably helped organize. Their fathers were both professors of radical history at Yale and have written well-regarded books on how the Founding Fathers only started the American Revolution to protect their monopoly on cotton. They scored the dough for the Ghana underwater hungry windmills by adding a 4 percent tax on gasoline, cough drops or tanning salons. It doesn't matter because so long as the money exists, the mafia can keep stealing it one way or another. The big scary question is what happens when the money begins to run out? In Russia, the question isn't merely academic. It's disturbingly real. Predators expand in proportion to prey. An open system attracts predators who feed off it. We call this taxation, and it works fine, though with more for those at the top of the food chain than those at the bottom. The predators breed larger and larger numbers until they cease to understand that they need the prey to survive. That's when the predators start telling the prey, "You didn't build this."

Monday, August 6, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 92 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Click here to listen now. The Chick-fil-A Backlash The left was hoping to browbeat Chick-fil-A into submission, but instead it just demonstrated its own intolerance for traditional values. Check out our latest short ad on the Chick-fil-A backlash. Democrats better get used to long lines. The Chick-fil-A voters will be back in November! "Dirty Harry" Strikes Again Twice last week Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid went to the Senate floor and leveled baseless allegations against Mitt Romney, suggesting that he had not paid taxes for ten years. Sen. Reid claims that a former employee at Bain Capital called him with this information. The tax issue was a major topic of discussion on the Sunday talk shows, with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus calling Reid a "dirty liar" on ABC's "This Week." This is what the modern Democrat Party and the political left have come to. We've said for years that the cultural left believes in moral relativism. To the left there is no reliable standard of right and wrong. If there were any doubt, Harry Reid's outrageous slanders make it painfully obvious that the Democrats have no standards of decency when it comes to politics. They routinely smear, lie, cheat and crucify their political opposition with a level of vitriol and enthusiasm that still leaves many on the right breathless. It is highly unlikely that anyone from Bain Capital called Harry Reid. If Reid seriously thought there was a real possibility that Mitt Romney was a tax cheat, he would have gone to the IRS or given us the name of the individual. Harry Reid and Obama's Democrat Party are engaging in McCarthyism. Throw a charge out there, no matter how outrageous, and let it run. That's what Reid did last week, and it took several days before Republicans really started to take it seriously. The Hidden Paradox Unfortunately, there are competing tensions among many GOP strategists. Some believe that voters just want an end to this bickering, and that is why we cannot and should not respond to the Democrats' shameful charges. But the Obama campaign has spent millions on polling and does not appear to be the least bit concerned about going negative. They believe they know what charges will not work and which ones have legs. Some GOP pollsters and consultants say, "Don't attack Obama personally because people really like him." I'm dubious, but here's the problem: If you refuse to attack him, the paradox is that the people won't dislike him. Meanwhile, the Obama campaign's entire strategy is attack, attack, attack in order to guarantee that people don't like Mitt Romney. It is often said that presidential elections are a referendum on the incumbent, in this case President Obama. Voters first have to decide what they think about the incumbent and then decide whether the challenger is a credible alternative. The only way Obama wins is to make sure that Mitt Romney is not acceptable in the minds of most voters. Other Republican strategists argue that people do not vote on the intricate details that Washington often obsesses about. They vote based on concerns such as "Do I like him?" and "Does this candidate understand and care about people like me?" On these concerns, the left is making sure that the answer is no -- "No, I don't like Mitt Romney," and "No, he doesn't understand people like me." Mitt Romney is a good man. His background and history show incredible acts of generosity on a regular basis. He is a wonderful family man. If most Americans had the chance to meet Mitt Romney in any normal situation, at a party or at a business meeting, they would like him. But most Americans will never meet him face-to-face. Many will only see the Obama/Reid caricature. Broaden The Debate To Expose Obama's Radicalism Another bit of advice coming from the GOP's Beltway establishment is the idea that in order to win, we must focus exclusively on economic issues. Trust me, I want to win this election as much as anyone else. And I am committed to doing everything I can to get Mitt Romney elected, as well as electing a conservative majority to the House and Senate. That said, I believe it is a well-meaning but terrible mistake for the Republican Party to act on the mantra that the election is solely about the economy and everything else is part of a Democrat strategy to ignore the economy. Of course the Democrats would prefer to talk about Mitt Romney's tax returns and not the economy. But we must expose Obama's radicalism on values issues. Republicans must learn how to drive headlines. Just imagine if Republicans had said more about Chick-fil-A and Obama's extremism on values last week. It would have distracted people from Harry Reid's baseless attacks and reinforced the reality that Mitt Romney shares the values of most voters. Obama has repeatedly gone off the rails when it comes to values. Obamacare was nearly derailed over abortion, and it remains extremely unpopular. Obama got off track when he accused Cambridge police officers of "acting stupidly" because most people side with the men and women on the "thin blue line." When he makes comments about some Americans "clinging to their guns and religion" or embraces same-sex "marriage," it causes people to stop and say, "Hey, he doesn't get me. His values aren't my values." Romney has had some success going after Obama for his socialist "You didn't build that" remark. But broadening the debate to include values issues will help to further expose Obama's radicalism and undercut his supposed "likeability" with swing voters. Obama's Breakfast Club The idea of the Republican Party as a bunch of angry, old white men has been around for decades. It's part of the left's ongoing effort to portray the GOP as an insular party that's out of step with modern America. Harry Reid (now there's an angry, old white guy) revived the meme last week in an interview with The Huffington Post in which he mocked some of the biggest Republican donors. But if anyone's financial backers can be accused of being out of touch with mainstream America and its values it's President Obama. Let's imagine what a post-election breakfast of top Obama donors would look like. I'm imagining the bar scene out of Star Wars. This menagerie of leftists would be alien indeed to most of middle America. You can read more in my latest column at humanevents.com.

Disillusionment with Obama running deep
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 02:45 PM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
A Gallup poll reports that 9 percent of those who say they voted for Barack Obama now say they support Mitt Romney. 86 percent say they will stand by the "hope and change" guy.
Romney does better than Obama at holding on to his expected share of the 2008 vote. Only 5 percent told Gallup they will flip to Obama, while 92 percent plan once again to reject him.
Obviously, Obama's margin in 2008 was big enough to allow for some slippage. For example, the above results would produce an extremely tight race.
But I suspect that Romney will have an easier time winning over those who voted for McCain, but aren't currently planning to vote for the Republican this time, than Obama will have recapturing the 14 percent who plainly feel let down by this president.

Mitt Outraises Barack, the Democrats Respond
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 12:38 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
As we noted this morning, the presidential campaigns released their July numbers today, and Mitt Romney once again outraised President Obama by a considerable margin. It didn't take long for the Democrats to work the numbers into their latest fundraising pitch:
BREAKING NEWS: Mitt Romney and the Republicans brought in a whopping $101 million in July.
You and I both know that Mitt Romney will sell America out if he becomes President - giving more tax breaks to his Big Oil and billionaire backers.
The only way we can stop them is to close this fundraising gap - starting today.
Please do your part - make a donation of $3 or more right now to back up President Obama with a Democratic majority.
The reality is simple: If Mitt can bury us under a wave of corporate special interest cash, we will lose in November.
But if everyone who's been waiting to give pitches in a few dollars, we can start closing the gap today.
http://dccc.org/Close-The-Gap
Thanks for all you do,
Robby
Robby Mook DCCC Executive Director
What is sad about the Obama campaign, and the Democrats in general, is that they lack any vestige of a positive message. They have no positive agenda; no plans for a second term-none that they want to reveal to voters, anyway-and nothing to say about Obama's record or that of the Democratic Senate. They have nothing left but the stupidest kind of demagoguery: "You and I both know that Mitt Romney will sell America out if he becomes President - giving more tax breaks to his Big Oil and billionaire backers." That's it. Beyond that sort of nonsense, the Democrats are utterly out of ammo. Has any political party ever been more richly deserving of defeat?

Romney is right, culture matters Part Five
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 11:34 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
Richard Landes
Richard Landes, a medieval historian at Boston University, takes to the pages of the Wall Street Journal to demonstrate that Mitt Romney was right to focus on the cultural dimension of Israel's economic growth and of Palestinian drift. Landes is the son of David Landes, the former Harvard professor on whom Romney relies, in part, for his views about the importance of culture in the economic realm.
Richard Landes explains:
Israel, a country with no natural resources, an economic backwater even in the Ottoman Empire, rose to the top of the developed world in a century on culture alone. The Arab nations, on the other hand, illustrate the necessity of a certain kind of culture: Even those with vast petrodollars still have among the least productive economies in the world. . . .
[T]here are cultures whose favored mode is not voluntary but coerced and zero-sum relations, where the principle of "rule or be ruled" dominates political and economic life. The elites in such cultures hold hard work in contempt, and they distrust intellectual openness and uncontrolled innovation as subversive. They emphasize rote learning and unquestioning respect for those in authority. Protection rackets rather than law enforcement assure the public order and bleed the economy. Public criticism brings sharp retaliation. Powerful actors acquire wealth by taking, rather than making.
Few cultures on the planet better illustrate the latter traits than the Arab world, a fact outlined in painful detail by a 2002 United Nations report written by Arab intellectuals. As "The Wealth and Poverty of Nations" [the book by David Landes] points out, Arab culture intensifies these problems with its attitude of hyper-jealousy and misogyny toward women, which turns out entitled sons and cloistered daughters.
Even the huge influx of petrodollars did not change the basic contours of Arab economies: Rather than fueling economic development that benefited all, it bloated corrupt and opaque elites. Oil-rich countries like Libya and Iraq have social structures akin to those of oil-bereft Egypt and Syria. Change may occur, but it is hindered by an authoritarian culture that fears it. Such societies impoverish the masses, while elites thrive on their debasement.
As I noted in an earlier post on this subject, Palestinians actually perform more impressively in the economic realm than Arabs generally. Landes links this to culture and, in particular, the fact that Israeli culture has rubbed off on Palestinians to some degree:
Strikingly, Palestinian culture compares favorably with that of other Arabs. Palestinians have higher education, a strong work ethic and successful entrepreneurs. Much of that comes from their close association with the Zionists, who (unlike Western imperialists) settled the land without conquest, by dint of making everyone more prosperous.
From the late 19th century, Arab populations grew and prospered where Jews settled (Tel Aviv, Hebron, Jerusalem) and remained stagnant and poor where they didn't (Gaza, Nablus, Nazareth). Many Arabs found the presence of Jews a great advantage. Thus the Palestinian diaspora is among the best-educated and most competent in the Arab world-and under Israeli rule (the notorious "occupation") the West Bank was one of the 10 fastest-growing economies in the world in the 1980s.
Other Palestinians, however, found Jewish economic leadership an unbearable blow to their pride. Said one to the British Peel Commission in 1936: "You say we are better off: you say my house has been enriched by the strangers who have entered it. But it is my house, and I did not invite the strangers in, or ask them to enrich it, and I do not care how poor it is if I am only master of it."
Sooner rule in hell than share in heaven. These actors have dominated Palestinian political culture, and terrorized Israeli and Palestinian alike, for generations.
It is sad to think that the mainstream media chose to ignore this reality for the purpose of attempting to argue that Mitt Romney doesn't understand the Middle East. But the truth may be sadder still: the mainstream media is so reflexively pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel that it actually believes Romney got it wrong when he called out the self-destructive Palestinian culture.

The Godfather of Liberalism
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 09:50 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
Our friends at the Heritage Foundation have launched a new educational initiative, Makers of American Political Thought, featuring short essays on key figures and ideas in American politics. (There will be an essay in this series from me a ways down the road, about a certain modern president.) The first essay in the series came out last week-Hillsdale's R.J. Pestritto on Woodrow Wilson: Godfather of Liberalism.
Pestritto is the author of the best study of Wilson's convoluted political thought, Woodrow Wilson and the Roots of Modern Liberalism, which I heartily recommend to anyone with the time for a serious academic study. (Both Scott Johnson and I were privileged to serve on a book panel about R.J.'s book at an annual meeting of the American Political Science Association when it came out several years ago.) Most of Wilson's many biographers have been simply unequal to explaining or assessing Wilson's complicated and dubious political ideology. Pestritto's book gets at it best, and it was a strong influence on Glenn Beck before Beck entered his full "Beautiful Mind" phase.
But in place of R.J.'s complete treatment if you are pressed for time, read this new Heritage essay. Sample:
Progressivism-certainly as expounded by Wilson-understood itself as presenting a rationale for moving beyond the political thinking of the American Founding. A prerequisite for national progress, Wilson believed, was that the Founding be understood in its proper historical context. Its principles, in spite of their timeless claims, were intended to deal with the unique circumstances of that day.
This interpretation of the Founding ran up against the Founders' own self-understanding, as Wilson well knew. This is why much of his scholarship is devoted to a radical reinterpretation and critique of the political theory of the Founding. Wilson understood that the limits placed upon the power of the national government by the Constitution-limits that Progressives wanted to see relaxed if not removed-were grounded in the natural-rights principles of the Declaration of Independence. This meant, for Wilson, that both the Declaration and the Constitution had to be understood anew through a Progressive lens.

Romney Outraises Obama Again
Posted: 06 Aug 2012 09:03 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
The presidential campaigns have released their July fundraising totals, and once again Mitt Romney came out on top, pulling in $101.3 million to Obama's $75 million. The figures for both campaigns were similar to their June totals. The Romney campaign also said that it has $186 million on hand. The Obama campaign apparently didn't release that number, presumably because Obama would be embarrassed by the comparison.
Romney plans to start spending in a big way after the GOP convention at the end of this month, and it appears that he will outspend Obama from that point until Election Day. One wonders, however, whether there will be a single undecided voter left by the end of August.

Obama Administration Nationalizing Common Core Standards
By Rachel Sheffield
At a Tea Party gathering last month, Indiana Schools Superintendent Tony Bennett expressed his concern with the growing federal overreach of Common Core education standards. "This administration has an insatiable appetite for federal overreach," he said. "The federal government's involvement in these standards is wrong."
The Indianapolis Star adds:
Bennett pointed out that the Common Core's standards originated with the National Governors Association, and were intended for voluntary adoption by states. Then, according to Bennett, Obama nationalized the standards and has tried to use federal clout to force the Common Core on the states.
That the standards were ever simply a state-led effort is questionable. Regardless, the push for national education standards has quickly become a major focus of the Obama Administration's agenda.
From the beginning, the Administration has attempted to lure states to the standards with federal dollars. It began with Race to the Top money as well as a proposal to make Title I dollars contingent on a state's adoption of the standards. Most recently, the Administration has required states to sign on to the standards in order to receive No Child Left Behind waivers.

Solyndra Revelations Show It's Time to Close the "Bank of Washington"
"The Bank of Washington continues to help us!" bragged Solyndra CEO Chris Gronet in emails released last week. An investigation by the House Energy and Commerce Committee revealed that Solyndra-the solar company that went under, taking more than $600 million in taxpayer funds with it-wasn't ever supposed to be an independent business. It was built to rely on the taxpayers. "Getting business from Uncle Sam is a principal element of Solyndra's channel strategy," wrote Tom Baruch, founder of Solyndra investor CEMA Capital, in an August 10, 2010 email. Getting federal money was integral to Solyndra's business model. But even with government backing, Solyndra failed-just one of a growing list of companies in the Green Graveyard that took taxpayer money and went bankrupt. The emails released between Solyndra stakeholders and Obama Administration officials show that Solyndra's investors knew the company was a bad bet for taxpayers, but the Administration wanted the energy loan guarantee program to be perceived as successful. Meanwhile, the Government Accountability Office was finding that the Department of Energy played favorites with the program, and high-level advisers including Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner were raising red flags. When it became clear that the company wasn't going to make it, White House communications directorDan Pfeiffer wrote to White House insiders Stephanie Cutter and David Plouffe: "This is going to be a real pain, Solyndra is about to go under apparently." Despite 12 such failures-companies taking taxpayer money yet going bankrupt-the Administration hasn't given up its push for solar. In July, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar characterized the bankruptcies and delays that have plagued the solar manufacturing sector as "just minor (and expected) blips for the industry." "Across the Administration, we're looking at ways to create jobs and strengthen the economy-and a big part of that is building a sustainable, clean energy future," Salazar said. But as Heritage's Michael Sandoval reports:
Salazar's touting of job creation is at odds with the Department of Energy's David Frantz, who oversees the DOE loan guarantee program....Frantz told House members that these large, utility-scale renewable projects really could not be counted upon for creating jobs. "The predominance of our portfolio-and the objective, really, of the act-is to be creating large infrastructure, utility-scale projects; and, by definition, they are not a multiplier for job creation," Frantz said.
Still, lawmakers in both parties have embraced the job creation fallacy. Heritage's Nicolas Loris has noted that both Democrats and Republicans:
...like loan guarantees (or tax credits or direct grants) if they support projects for their politically preferred sources of energy, such as clean coal and nuclear, or if they bring jobs to their districts that they can take credit for creating. But these programs do not create jobs. They misallocate labor and capital by shifting taxpayer dollars away from economical projects and toward political ones.
Energy subsidies, whether in the form of taxpayer-backed loans or outright grants, are a bipartisan boondoggle that simply does not work. Looking back, President George W. Bush's solar initiative sounds very similar when compared to President Obama's. The aptly named "No More Solyndras" Act, now in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, would stop the government from giving out new taxpayer-backed loan guarantees. For applications that are already under consideration or have received conditional commitment, the bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to make a recommendation based on the merits of the program. Although not perfect, the legislation moves us in the right direction toward finally ending this program. As subcommittee chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) said last week, "Instead of handing out billions in loan guarantees to selected companies, we can do much more good by removing billions in unnecessary regulatory compliance costs." There are plenty of job-killing regulations holding back American companies. A lack of taxpayer dollars is not the problem. It's time to close the "Bank of Washington" and allow truly successful, viable technologies to rise to the top. See the 10 Most Revealing Solyndra Emails
