Over in Toronto, a Muslim cleric with the unwieldy name of Al-Hashim Kamena Atangana had a great idea. Al-Hashim's idea was for Toronto to pass laws forcing women to wear Burkas. "Cover up or get raped", was the implied message. Toronto only has an estimated 5.5 percent Muslim population so the Toronto Taliban probably won't be getting their way until they have higher double digit numbers, but they can wait.
Meanwhile in Egypt where the population is 90 percent Muslim and the other 10 percent are running for their lives, a new TV channel represents a brave new frontier in Islamic feminism. Maria TV features women giving lifestyle and makeup tips while wearing the Niqab, which covers their faces and leaves only their eyes exposed. According to some Saudi clerics who think that women are only allowed to leave one eye exposed, this makes them either a bold feminist experiment or shameless strumpets.
In a country where Tahrir Square has become synonymous with sexual assault; the Al-Hashim paradigm is taking hold. There are photos of female students at Cairo University from the 60's and 70's that showed them dressing like women did in the 60's and 70's. But by the time Obama showed up to praise Cairo University as a great representative of Islamic civilization, the cover-up had begun. The question is where will the cover-up end and what will the Cairo University class of 2020 look like? They probably won't have faces, but will they even have eyes?
You can attend a university with your head covered, even with your face covered, but it gets harder to attend class when your eyes are covered. If the trend means anything in a decade Muslim feminism will mean fighting for the right to keep one eye open in a religion that wants everyone to keep their eyes shut.
The liberal West has reacted to the Islamic cover-up with its own cover-up. The Western liberal will run through the gamut of his own civilization's sins before reluctantly admitting that some parts of the Muslim world may not be an ideal place to be a woman, but he immediately reaches for a rolled up copy of the New York Times and uses Tom Friedman's latest report from an airport's luxury lounge in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur as proof that the reforms are coming.
Indeed if you read anything from Tom Friedman, who is expert at writing books about how the world is becoming a global village because it's so ridiculously easy for him to fly anywhere on his frequent flyer miles, that is all he can talk about. Saudi Arabia is constantly being reformed. Why in 1962 it abolished slavery and recently the Saudi king has agreed to let women vote in municipal elections in 2015. This is naturally a big deal in an absolute monarchy that has been ruled by the same family for longer than it had oil companies.
There is no question that King Abdullah is a great feminist. If you doubt that just ask any one of his 13 wives. It may be true that women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive or leave the country without permission from their husband and have their lives controlled by a male guardian; but so long as Tom Friedman has a comfortable seat and an alcohol-free drink whenever he flies to Saudi Arabia, the reports of reforms will keep on coming about this cheerful outpost in our global village.
Announcing the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on August 1
July 26, 2012 ,
Christian-owned Chick-fil-A has come under assault once again, this time because CEO Dan Cathy recently affirmed his personal view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld.
The "Big Gay" machine has ramped up an un-relenting and vicious public attack against Chick-fil-A. Homosexual activists are spewing hate-filled bigotry and intolerance toward the company in unprecedented fashion.
Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day is our way of showing our support for a company whose leaders believe in marriage as that of one man, one woman.
Join millions of others in showing support for Chick-fil-A by visiting your local Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The plan is simple. At least once on August 1, eat a meal at Chick-fil-A and politely let the staff and management know you appreciate the company's Christian value system.
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):
New PBS Documentary Homeland: Immigration in America
Homeland: Immigration in America is a three episode documentary series that explores one of the most polarizing issues facing America today.
A PBS Election 2012 national special, the series is narrated by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for PBS NewsHour, and produced by the Nine Network of Public Media in St. Louis.
Friday, July 27 on your local PBS station: "Enforcement" cuts through the heated rhetoric to explore how communities and the nation struggle to enforce inconsistent immigration policies. One story explains why two Kansas City beat cops have adopted a "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward legal status, knowing that aggressive enforcement threatens to break community trust when illegal and legal immigrants live side by side, often in the same family.
David Barton Part 2: Historian Responds to Critics' Claims, Academics' 'Extreme Hostility Toward Faith' & Obama's Alleged King George III-Like Behavior
The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on July 26, 2012 at 2:17pm
Editor's Note: This is the second segment of TheBlaze's series on conservative historian David Barton. He will also be appearing at some of the events surrounding Glenn Beck's "Restoring Love" event in Dallas, Texas, this week.
Earlier this week, we brought you the first part of our series on conservative historian David Barton. You learned some of the major criticisms that have been waged against him, while also gaining perspective into his worldview on America's founding. TheBlaze spoke exclusively with Barton to get his response and to better understand how he views the nation's founding.
When asked to share why he believes some see him through such a negative lens, he said that critics view him as a threat to their worldview and ideological confines.
"I am a threat to their paradigm," Barton said. "They have a particular paradigm built on a set of beliefs. I challenge those beliefs based on historical evidence that weakens their perspective."
The academic world, he explains, embraces a far more secular worldview than mainstream society. He also said that numerous studies corroborate the notion that college and university campuses are among the most hostile place in America for faith and religion (and those who embrace a belief in a higher power).
This dynamic essentially leads to "extreme hostility toward faith," Barton believes. In a grander sense, he adds that it leads college academics and historians to gloss over the role of faith in the nation's founding.
Wow! No Uhhhh's, Ummmm's, or Stuttering. Not even a teleprompter!
Representative Mike Kelly, speaking on the House floor today, managed something very rare in the history of the institution - he got a standing ovation. Applause is usually forbidden in the house, but Kelly's blistering attack on regulatory red tape and Washington's culture of control was apparently so powerful that several of his fellow house members couldn't resist showing their support, clapping, standing up and shouting "USA! USA! USA!"
Would you applaud this way? See Kelly's speech below and decide for yourself:
Rep. Kelly's Rousing Floor Speech Receives Standing Ovation and Chants of "USA!"
Outstanding !!! tell obama and his bureaucrates to take his regulations and stick it, We The People want to become MAKERS again not TAKERS

Just in: Contempt of Congress AG Eric Holder has ordered the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate
Pennsylvania's newly enactedVoter ID law--adding an additional hurdle for the law to overcome if it's to be implemented on election day, Tuesday, November 6.
The timing of the investigation is quite suspect since a Commonwealth Court hearing challenging the law is set to begin in Harrisburg this Wednesday, July 25.
The hearing, expected to last 5-7 days, is open to the public. (We encourage you to attend if possible--details below.)
And what usual suspects do we find standing behind the lawsuit? Why the
American Civil Liberties Union and their allies, of course.
The Voter ID law, which enhances voter integrity by making voter fraud more difficult to conduct, was signed by Gov. Tom Corbett earlier this year. Its passage has obviously frightened the Obama administration and its cohorts.
In other matters: Association member Barb Campbell has forwarded a general request by Gov. Mike Huckabee to make Wednesday, August 1, 'Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.'
In line with our Black Friday BuyCott (2011) and Whole Foods BuyCott (2009), we'll call this our 'Chick Fil-A BuyCott, 2012.'
In Gov. Huckabee's own words:
"....The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1....
"This effort is not being launched by the Chick Fil-A company....
Simply affirm [your] appreciation for a company run by Christian principles by showing up on Wednesday, August 1 or by participating online--tweeting your support or sending a message on Facebook."
Commonwealth Court Hearing on Voter ID
When: Wednesday, July 25, 10 AM.
(Hearing to last several more days--beginning at 9 AM.)
Where: Courtroom 3002, Pennsylvania Judicial Center, 601
Commonwealth Ave., Harrisburg, PA.
Who: Hearing before Judge Robert Simpson and open to the public.
We'll try to arrange car pools for those who are interested in
attending. Please let us know if you are driving and would like
company or are in need of a ride by calling 215.663.1983.
Many thanks!
Chick Fil-A BuyCott
When: Wednesday, August 1, during restaurant hours.
Where: Your neighborhood Chick Fil-A.
Hope to see you!

SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Show times are not yet available, but we are looking at getting together this Friday, July 27th, to watch the movie in Bucks County! The plan is for us to attend the showing between 7pm and 8pm followed by a meet & greet mingle session at Ruby Tuesday's afterwards (same parking lot as movie theater).
Ana and Anastasia will do a "live" phone bank training so that we can all start making calls from home for Tom Smith.

From Peter Friedman:
Now that I have walked precincts and spoken with voters, and presented my new lecture "Community Organizing to Win Elections!" numerous times, I can give you this empirical info on how we can win in 2012! If you attend neighborhood meetings, town halls, or just speak with your neighbors and friends, use the following tactic:
"Are you better off than you were four years ago? I'm not! I'm paying twice as much for gas and food. I have had to cut back on things I used to do and buy four years ago. I used to go out to eat three to four times each week, but now I can only go a few times a week because I'm paying so much more for everything!"
Use this analogy regarding the 2012 election when you speak to voters:
"Do you have a 401K or stock portfolio? You know, America is just like a business. If you bought stock in a company four years ago such as Apple, and they hired a new CEO right after, and during the past four years that new CEO ruined the company so that your stock went down in value, what do think should happen to that incompetent CEO? If you could, would you attend the annual stockholder's meeting and vote that incompetent CEO out? Would you vote to hire a more competent CEO? Of course you would!
America has an "annual stockholder's meeting" every four years! It is our Presidential Election! We are all stockholders in America, and it is our responsibility to have competent management running America ds that our "stock" in America increases in value! "
I have used this analogy in walking precincts and have changed the hearts and minds of voters by appealing to logic, reason, and their pocketbook! People vote with their wallets!
PRINT THIS OUT AND CARRY IT AROUND WITH YOU TO USE IN CONVERSATIONS!!!
All talking points when addressing voters or interviewers should only deal with "money" issues! The concept is, "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?"
Question: Why has the current administration removed food and gas from the Inflation Index?
Answer: To fool US! Removing food and gas from the Inflation Index shows that very little inflation is present benefitting the admninistration's propaganda. How much more are WE paying for such things as a gallon of gas - more than double what it was when Obama was elected - and basic food such as milk, cheese, meat, and fish? Do you think Obama refusing to allow oil drilling off the West and East coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska has driven up the price of gas?
Question:Do you know how much California pays public schools for each student?
Answer:California pays more than $14,000 for each student, $67 BILLION a year. If there are an average of 25 students in each public school classroom, that equals $350,000 per classroom. The average wage for a California elementary school teacher is approximately $50,000. That leaves $300,000 per classroom. Where's the money? Why do parents have to give teachers money each year to buy supplies like paper and pencils? Where's the money? Pensions? Benefits?
Question:Does the Government abuse their credit card?
Answer:At the end of each month WE must pay at least the minimum on each credit card. If WE don't pay the balance off each month, the credit card company charges US interest on the amount WE don't pay. At some point WE will discover that OUR balances are so high that WE will never be able to pay off OUR credit card debt, and must declare bankruptcy. Our government continues to borrow $.40 of every dollar spent! This is a "credit card" WE can never pay off! It has to stop!
Question:How much is Obama's portion of the National Debt, really?
Answer:Do WE as taxpayers really owe that $5 TRILLION dollars that Obama ran up? In fact, WE taxpayers owe $10 TRILLION dollars, not just $5 TRILLION! What did WE taxpayer's get for that $5 TRILLION dollars of any value to offset that $5 TRILLION debt? Apparently nothing! Money doesn't disappear into thin air - it goes somewhere to somebody! Wouldn't you like to know who got it?
Without this information YOU are powerless to change anything. Elected officials do NOT want you to have that information because you could hold them accountable. I bet a lot of them would wind up in prison! It is in their interest to keep you in the dark. It is up to you to turn on the lights!

STOP the Smartmeter NOW
Dear Patriots,
Just to make you aware, Smartmeters are here. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off.
Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them.
Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. Do you want the department of energy monitoring your usage of electric via PECO and possibly turning off your electric and certain peak hours (as explained in this video).
What you can do: Representative Reese from Westmoreland County has introduced two bills whichare in the Consumer Affairs Committee. ONE BILL WOULD ALLOW FOR OPTING OUT OF GETTING A SMART METER THE OTHER BILL WOULD REQUIRE CONSUMER CONSENT BEFORE INFORMATION FROM THE METER COULD BE SHARED WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Please contact the people listed in the link and let them know that we want these bills brought to the floor for the vote. This is our local electric company being used for the UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). We need everyone's involvement so pass on to everyone you know. Let's make an effort to get this out of committee.
I have contacted PECO and told them not to install a smartmeter on my house. I would suggest doing the same with your electric company. They need a loud outcry from the american people. I will also be putting this sticker on my meter. I will be editing the wording down below, but here it is.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.
Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.
Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

In the interest of keeping you up to date, I want to share with you a news story that came out earlier today from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania today issued a ruling in a lawsuit challenging Act 13, the law which regulates how natural gas is to be extracted in Pennsylvania and imposes an impact fee per natural gas well.
The court struck down the zoning provision of the law which says the legislature doesn't have the authority to say local zoning can be pre-empted.
Court throws out state zoning for
Marcellus Shale drilling
July 26, 2012 10:49 am By Laura Olson / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
HARRISBURG -- A Commonwealth court panel this morning threw out Pennsylvania's attempt to establish statewide zoning for Marcellus Shale drilling.
The court ruled that the state cannot take away zoning control away from local municipalities as it tried to do when the Legislature passed Act 13 in February.
That law, signed by Gov. Tom Corbett in February, enacted a sweeping set of changes for how the oil and gas drilling industry operates within Pennsylvania, including creating an impact fee and, most controversially, dictating what municipalities can and cannot include in their zoning standards for gas drilling.
A lawsuit was filed in March, challenging the zoning provision primarily, arguing that the new law prevented local officials from protecting the health and safety of their residents. An order attached to this morning's filing declares the zoning provision null and void. A separate provision that allows state environmental officials to waive setback requirements for gas wells also is overturned.
The majority opinion states that requiring municipalities to change their zoning rules in a way that would conflict with their development plans "violates substantive due process because it does not protect the interests of neighboring property owners from harm, alters the character of neighborhoods and makes irrational classifications -- irrational because it requires municipalities to allow all zones, drilling operations and impoundments, gas compressor stations, storage and use of explosives in all zoning districts, and applies industrial criteria to restrictions on height of structures, screening and fencing, lighting and noise."
"If a municipality cannot constitutionally include allowing oil and gas operations, it is no more constitutional just because the Commonwealth requires that it be done," the opinion states. A dissent was released from three members of the court panel -- Judges Kevin Brobson, Robert Simpson and Anne Covey -- arguing that the municipalities challenging the law failed to make their constitutional claim.
The ruling comes a little more than three months after another state appellate judge granted a 120-day injunction to prevent the zoning section of the law from going into effect in mid-April. Seven municipalities -- including the southwestern towns of Cecil, Peters, South Fayette, Mount Pleasant and Robinson, plus two towns in Bucks County -- filed the lawsuit, along with a Monroeville doctor and environmental activists from the Delaware Riverkeeper Network.
Canonsburg attorney John Smith, one of several attorneys representing the municipalities in the lawsuit, argued during a June en banc hearing that allowing drilling activities in areas the state proscribed would make it difficult for local governments to protect their residents and that the statute allows the drilling industry privileges in permitting and land use that others do not have.
State lawyers replied that municipalities do not have a constitutionally protected right to zoning and that those powers can be altered by the Legislature as they see fit.
A spokesman for the state attorney general's office, which defended the commonwealth in the lawsuit, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
President Obama's latest clarification-inducing comment came Wednesday, and it's eyebrow-raising to say the least. Speaking on employment and the economy, the silver-tongued president declared, "Just like we've tried [the Republicans'] plan, we've tried our plan, and it worked. That's the difference."
Moe, who has graphically shown the fallacy of Obama's "it worked" claim, summed up his rebuttal by declaring that "the only way that you can possibly justify suggesting that Obama's economic program 'worked' is if you define 'not working' as 'the country is now on fire'."
Given this obvious state of affairs, Democrats, media, and apologists (but I repeat myself) have once again entered full-on spin-and-clarification mode, claiming (yet again) that their skilled orator and effective communicator in chief has been taken out of context, and that he was actually referring to something else, like the economic policies of President Clinton and his Republican Congress. Of course, a look at the transcript - combined with Obama's penchant for taking credit for policy successes where (to put it charitably) none is due, makes this claim unlikely at best.
After a year full of victories for big government legislation in Congress, the forces of statism seemed to have met their Waterloo with the farm/food stamp bill. The more people learned of the profligate food stamp spending and the market distorting, risk-inducing agriculture programs contained in the bill, the more they spoke out against this monstrosity. Speaker Boehner has refused to bring the bill to the floor so far.
Seeing their political stock rapidly diminish, the bipartisan coalition of government-run agriculture took a page out of Rahm Emanuel's playbook and decided not to let the crisis of the summer drought go to waste. They are using evocative imagery of dead crops and the fear of higher food prices to shove this $957 billion behemoth through Congress. Amazingly enough, the Washington Post of all news outlets has injected some much-needed clarity into this narrative.
But don't tell that to DC's chattering class who would have you believe there isn't any difference between Dewhurst and Ted Cruz. They claim this campaign is just about which kind of "conservative" we will get in Washington - a "veteran conservative legislator" (read: guy who make nice with leadership), or a new member of the "doesn't-play-well-with-others" caucus.

"If you ever disrespect Islam ever again, I'm going to personally find you all, ok?...You'll f'king die."
Death Threat to ABN after Robert Spencer/PamelaGeller Show on July 23, 2012
Shortly after Robert Spencer interviewed me about "Islamophobia" on his new ABN show on July 23, ABN received this chilling death threat. If Daisy Khan or Huma Abedin had received this threat, the police would be on 24-hour guard at their house. But no one will take notice of this one.
Here's a transcript of the death threat:
Now listen to me, asshole: if you ever disrespect my belief, I'm going to personally find ya, ok? If you ever disrespect Islam ever again, I'm going to personally find you all, ok? Take what I'm saying very f'king seriously, ok? And I f'king mean it. I'm going to personally find you all, ok? Your life will be a f'king nightmare. Take what I'm saying very f'king seriously. Ft. Hood report "cites political correctness"
We have maintained from the beginning that a top-down culture of political correctness in the military made possible Nidal Hasan's jihadist attack at Ft. Hood.
Last week, a new report that investigated how the FBI handled the run-up to the Ft. Hood massacre suggests "political correctness" played a role in decisions the FBI made regarding Hasan. See the Fox News story below.
ACT! for America has contact with many current and former FBI field agents who express, off the record, their concerns about a climate of top-down political correctness at the FBI. You can see this climate at work in the FBI's rewrite of its counterterrorism training materials.
It's refreshing to see a report that actually identifies political correctness as a problem.
Fort Hood report faults FBI for missteps in Hasan review, cites political correctnessPublished July 19, 2012FoxNews.comhttp://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/19/fort-hood-report-recommends-many-changes-for-fbi-no-disciplinary-action/ A long-awaited report on the Fort Hood shooting faults the FBI for numerous failures in the run-up to the massacre that left 13 dead, concluding that agents' assessment of Maj. Nidal Hasan was "belated, incomplete and rushed" -- and suggesting political correctness played a role in the bureau's decision not to investigate him more thoroughly.
The report, obtained by Fox News Thursday afternoon, includes 18 specific recommendations for changes at the FBI. However, it does not recommend any disciplinary action against employees at the bureau.
The report found that the FBI "erred" in several respects -- by failing to interview Hasan when concerns were raised about his contact with known terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki; by failing to search for more email contact between Hasan and Awlaki; and by waiting too long to pursue leads on Hasan.
The FBI "erred in the process they followed to conclude that Hasan's communications with (Awlaki) were benign and acceptable," the report said. "Their assessment of Hasan was belated, incomplete and rushed, primarily because of their workload."
The report, conducted by former FBI Director William Webster over the course of two years, concludes that despite "missteps," the problems at the FBI in the lead-up to the massacre do not constitute "misconduct" that would warrant disciplinary action.
Bang for your buck: that's what the Freedom Center provides. Ammunition for the culture war against the Left: that's what your contribution buys. Senator McCain ought to be embarrassed. So should House Speaker Boehner and Congressman Rogers, the former FBI agent who chairs the Select Committee on Intelligence. China Buys Canadian Energy: Lessons for the U.S.
By Derek Scissors, Ph.D. and Dean Cheng
July 26, 2012
China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) this week offered to buy Canada's Nexen, Inc., for $15 billion. Nexen's board is recommending the bid to shareholders. If completed, this would be the single largest acquisition that Chinese companies have made in the outward investment splurge that started in 2005. It raises a series of issues for American policymakers to consider.
The most basic point is that the two sides freely agreeing to make this deal is a good thing; it is how market economies should work. Beyond that, it underscores that the People's Republic of China (PRC) has the means to diversify its access to key resources. China cannot simply be cut off from accessing international oil or the technology associated with it. In addition, China's high valuation of Canadian energy is at odds with the recent American decision to inhibit the development of the U.S.-Canada energy relationship by stalling the Keystone XL pipeline.
Deal Fits China's Investment Pattern
The CNOOC-Nexen transaction wins attention due to its size, but its other features fit Chinese outward investment tendencies perfectly. First, it is an energy deal, and The Heritage Foundation's China Global Investment Tracker-the only fully public dataset on Chinese global investment-confirms that energy has drawn over half of Chinese investment since spending began to rebound from the financial crisis in mid-2009.
Second, the deal fits geographically. The PRC has shown a clear geographic pattern in investment. Australia received the lion's share in 2006-2007, then sub-Saharan Africa grew in prominence for several years. In 2010-2011, South America lured the most Chinese investment.
After several years of intense solicitation by PRC enterprises, the attractiveness of further projects begins to decline and local opposition begins to rise. Some firms begin to look for new markets. Europe was supposed to be that new market, but to date in 2012, it turns out that it is North America. The U.S. easily led all countries in attracting Chinese investment through June 30, and now, in one swoop, Canada has jumped to the top of the pile.
Third, the state dominates Chinese outward investment. According to the Heritage tracker, state-owned enterprises account for well over 90 percent of Chinese spending by volume. When bonds are excluded, the two biggest Chinese outward investors are oil majors China National Petroleum and Sinopec. CNOOC is the third and smallest oil major, a state-owned, centrally controlled entity with monopoly rights to offshore energy development.
The disparate claims of racism to explain why Mitt Romney is now tied with Barack Obama in Virginia speak volumes about the fear they feel as November approaches. And fearful they should be.
Obama's collapse in Virginia is not hard to understand.
In May when Barack Obama "evolved" into a fan of Gay marriage there was an immediate uproar from his African American base. A large segment of Black Christians made it very clear they were not happy about Obama's latest "evolution" (he has been on both sides of the issue for longs periods at a time) on Gay marriage. Polls done in North Carolina and Georgia a few days afterward found 20% of African Americans intended to cast their ballots for Mitt Romney most likely because of Gay marriage.
Ulysses S. Grant was commissioned JULY 25, 1866, as General of the Army, the first to hold that rank. His Civil War victories resulted in his election as the 18th U.S. President. In his First Annual Message, December 6, 1869, President Grant wrote: "The Society of Friends...succeeded in living in peace with the Indians in the early settlement of Pennsylvania... These considerations induced me to give the management of a few reservations of Indians to them." In his 2nd Annual Message, December 5, 1870, President Grant wrote: "Religious denominations as had established missionaries among the Indians...are expected to watch over them and aid them...to Christianize and civilize the Indians, and to train him in the arts of peace." To Congress, January 1, 1871, President Grant wrote: "Indians of the country should be encouraged...to adopt our form of government, and it is highly desirable that they ... The Palladium of Liberties
In the wake of the tragic mass murder in Aurora, Colorado, last week, three groups weighed in on the "gun problem."
Predictably, the first two groups were Obama and his Leftist cadres, including his Leftmedia sycophants, who never "let a crisis go to waste" to advance their political agenda.
In what amounts to a major policy shift for Obama, he has made a political calculation that proposing new "gun control" measures will be a winning issue this fall. For the last two decades, gun control has been a losing proposition for Democrats, but in a desperate measure to create campaign traction, the King of Hubris has decided he can turn that around. Make no mistake, this may be a policy shift but Obama has a long history of Second Amendment opposition.
REVEALED: Corzine's MF Global Was Client of Eric Holder's Law Firm

Those wondering why the Department of Justice has refused to go after Jon Corzine for the vaporization of $1.6 billion in MF Global client funds need look no further than the documents uncovered by the Government Accountability Institute that reveal that the now-defunct MF Global was a client of Attorney General Eric Holder and Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer's former law firm, Covington & Burling.
There's more.
Records also reveal that MF Global's trustee for the Chapter 11 bankruptcy retained as its general bankruptcy counsel Morrison & Foerester--the very law firm from which Associate Attorney General Tony West came to DOJ.

This new Romney ad, hot off the press, so to speak, illustrates the problem Barack Obama has in running for re-election. His record is simply terrible, so whenever he tries to articulate his rationale for a second term, he opens himself up to a devastating rejoinder. On Tuesday he said he should be re-elected because "we tried our plan and it worked." Watch what the Romney campaign does with that:
Ouch. There is much more of this to come from now until November.
I haven't followed the Penn State child molestation scandal closely. My interest in sports is an interest in sports, not investigations of crimes by people involved (or formerly involved) with sports.
Nonetheless, I am aware that a consensus exists that former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno acted improperly in connection with Penn State's response to allegations of child molestation committed by one-time assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. This consensus led to the removal of a statue of Paterno, whose contributions to Penn State as a coach and financial contributor were enormous.
The consensus emerged from the report of Louis Freeh regarding Penn State's actions related to the sexual abuse committed by Sandusky. But a friend of mine - a top-notch lawyer and former federal prosecutor - has carefully reviewed the Freeh Report. He concludes that the Report does not establish wrongdoing by Joe Paterno. Having now looked at the Freeh Report, I agree.
Here is what my friend wrote:
I believe the media, the Freeh Report, and many others have misrepresented Joe Paterno's culpability in the Jerry Sandusky matter. The evidence against Mr. Paterno amounts to virtually nothing. After more than 430 interviews and a review of more than 3.5 million documents and other information, the Freeh Report concludes that three emails from other people - former Penn State President Graham Spanier, Athletic Director Timothy Curley, and Senior Vice President Gary Schultz - prove that Mr. Paterno was a co-conspirator in a cover-up. I do not read the evidence in the Freeh Report that way, and I do not believe the conclusions about Mr. Paterno are either warranted or fair.
The claim seems to be that Mr. Paterno knew about a 1998 allegation and did nothing, and that in 2001, when he learned about Mike McQueary's information, he waited a day before he reported the information to the athletic director (Curley) and the vice president in charge of the University Police (Schultz) and then did nothing else.
First, with respect to the 1998 incident, the Freeh Report says that several authorities promptly investigated and reviewed the matter, including the Department of Public Welfare, the University Police Department, the State College police, and the local district attorney's office. Freeh Report at 42-47. A "counselor" named John Seasock issued a report that found "no indication of child abuse." Freeh Report at 42-46. Mr. Seasock interviewed the alleged victim and determined that "there seems to be no incident which could be termed as sexual abuse, nor did there appear to be any sequential pattern of logic and behavior which is usually consistent with adults who have difficulty with sexual abuse of children." Freeh Report at 44 (quoting Mr. Seasock's 1998 evaluation of the alleged victim). The Freeh Report adds that Mr. Seasock "couldn't find any indication of child abuse." Freeh Report at 45.
The police investigated and "did not question Sandusky at this time," and the Freeh Report says that "the local District Attorney declined to prosecute Sandusky for his actions." Freeh Report at 45-46. A "senior administrator" explained that "the case against Sandusky was 'severely hampered' by Seasock's report." Freeh Report at 46. The University Police also investigatedthe matter and unlike the local police, they interviewed Sandusky. Sandusky claimed "nothing happened" (Freeh Report at 46) and the University Police concluded that "no sexual assault occurred." Freeh Report at 47.
The only evidence of Mr. Paterno's involvement is a passing reference in an email from Curley to Spanier and Schultz that says that Curley "touched base with the coach. Keep us posted." Freeh Report at 20, 48. A second email from Curley to Schultz that says "Coach is anxious to know where it stands." Freeh Report at 20, 48. There is no other information about Mr. Paterno's involvement in the incident. In fact, the Freeh Report does not even establish that the references to "Coach" refer to Joe Paterno. The most it can and does say is that "[t]he reference to Coach is believed to be Paterno." Freeh Report at 49. The Freeh Report cites no evidence to support this assertion, but even if "Coach" refers to Coach Paterno, what do these emails prove? The answer is: nothing. At most, these emails suggest that Mr. Paterno was concerned and wanted to know whether Sandusky was guilty of any wrongdoing.
Of course, if Mr. Paterno did express concern about the matter, then the question becomes: what did anyone tell him about the allegations and the investigation?
The Freeh Report provides no answer to this question. The Report does not provide any evidence about what Joe Paterno knew about the 1998 allegations against Sandusky. The Report does not provide any evidence about what Mr. Paterno did or said, or what anyone said to Mr. Paterno. Indeed, the Freeh Report suggests that both law enforcement and the University police agreed that nothing improper happened and that the allegations lacked merit. Did anyone tell Joe Paterno about those findings?
The Freeh Report concludes that the "record" is "not clear as to how the conclusion of the Sandusky investigation was conveyed to Paterno." Freeh Report at 51. The Report includes many statements that assert things like "nothing in the record indicates that Joe Paterno spoke with Sandusky." See, e.g., Freeh Report at 51. The absence of evidence or information proves only that Mr. Freeh did not find evidence. It does not affirmatively prove anything about Mr. Paterno.
Furthermore, despite the lack of evidence about Mr. Paterno's culpability with respect to the 1998 incident, the Freeh Report accuses Mr. Paterno of "allow[ing] Sandusky to retire in 1999, not as a suspected child predator, but as a valued member of the Penn State football legacy." Freeh Report at 17. The Freeh Report's expression of outrage may sound compelling now, with the benefit of hindsight and the evidence that now exists about Sandusky's criminal misconduct. But given that (1) law enforcement officials and other people investigated the 1998 incident and found no wrongdoing; (2) Seasock's report exonerated Sandusky; (3) the District Attorney declined to prosecute the case; (4) Sandusky denied the allegations; and (5) the complete lack of evidence about Mr. Paterno's knowledge, involvement, and actions, it is difficult to see how Mr. Paterno can be subject to ridicule because he "allowed" Sandusky to retire "not as a suspected child predator."
As to the issue about whether Joe Paterno should have done more with the McQueary information, I keep coming back to one critical missing piece of evidence: what did Curley and Schultz tell him? Schultz, in particular, is the important actor here because he was the top university official in charge of the University Police. Freeh Report at 33. If JoePa wanted to cover this up, he would never have reported McQueary's information to Curley and Schultz within a day of receiving it. Is waiting one day on a weekend evidence of a cover-up? Mr. Freeh and others seem to think so. The Freeh Report repeatedly cites Mr. Paterno's comments about not interfering with the weekend as evidence of some kind of evil intent. But, again, this proves nothing. Would the Report conclude differently if Mr.Paterno had spoken with Curley and Schultz on Saturday evening instead of Sunday?
Furthermore, if Mr. Paterno had reported the McQueary information to me (were I, like Schultz, the official in charge of the University Police), I would have told him to keep his mouth shut going forward and let the authorities handle the matter. Otherwise, Mr. Paterno could have tainted the investigation. And, because he was a potential trial witness (to McQueary's prior consistent statements, see Federal Rule of Evidence 801(d)(1)(B) and Pennsylvania Rule of Evidence613(c)), any further statements or action by Mr. Paterno could have become cross-examination fodder for the defense. Any further action by Mr.Paterno could only have damaged the integrity of the investigation and any prosecution against Sandusky.
Indeed, Mr. Paterno explained his actions before died by saying that "I was afraid to do something that might jeopardize what the University procedure was. So I backed away and turned it over to some other people, people I thought would have a little more expertise than I did." Freeh Report at 77-78. This statement makes perfect sense, and the notion of a football coach supervising a criminal investigation is ridiculous. It is very possible that Curley or Schultz or both told Mr. Paterno to stay out of the matter; in fact, Schultz should have told him as much. But we don't know because Schultz and Curley are under indictment and not talking, Paterno is dead, and the Freeh Report did not find any information about this issue.
Much of the case against Mr. Paterno seems to rely on (1) the theory that the Athletic Director, Curley, was JoePa's "errand boy"; and (2) an email dated February 27, 2001 from Curley to Schultz and Spanier which says that Curley gave the matter "more thought" after "talking it over with Joe" and was "uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps." Freeh Report at 74-75. But the "errand boy" evidence amounts to a reference by an unidentified "senior Penn State official" (page 75), and what does it prove anyway? That one person viewed Curley as Paterno's "errand boy"?
There is no evidence that Curley-as-errand-boy covered up because Joe Paterno told him to do so. And the February 27 email at most suggests that Mr. Paterno spoke with Curley. It does not say what Curley and Paterno discussed, and without any explanation from either Curley or Paterno, it is absurd to read into this that Mr. Paterno was the puppet master behind a coverup orchestrated by Curley, Spanier, and Schultz.
Mr. Paterno was a football coach, not an expert in criminal law or investigations, and this notion of him as some kind of omnipotent and omniscient God who callously turned his back on a serial child molester is unsupported by any evidence.
This is a rather sorry record upon which to condemn Joe Paterno.
People are rarely as good or as bad as they seem at any given time. In Paterno's case, however, I believe that the old, highly favorable narrative - to which some of the same media types who condemn him now contributed - is much closer to the mark than the revisionist narrative.
The Romney campaign continues to pound away at President Obama's the-government-did-it-all philosophy, to increasing effect. Today Romney launched a new web called Built By Us. The site allows small business owners to tell their stories and upload videos. They can also download this sign:
This video is on the site's front page:
The press has tried to run interference for Obama on this story, but without much success, as more and more Americans see the video of Obama's speech and decide for themselves what he meant, and whether his arrogant remarks have been taken out of context. One consequence of Obama's moment of honesty is that business owners are now among his harshest critics, along with farmers and fishermen; Gallup finds that 35% of business owners approve of his performance, while 59% disapprove.
Among the electorate as a whole, Romney is at least holding his own, even though he is being vastly outspent by a barrage of negative advertising. Today's Rasmussen Survey finds Romney leading the president 48% to 44%, while, not coincidentally, long-term optimism about the economy has fallen to a new low.
We have a long way to go to November, but at the moment, Romney must be happy with the progress of the campaign.
July 26, 2012 As Aug. 1 Deadline Looms, Family Company Takes the Federal Government to Court by Dominique Ludvigson, Research Fellow at the DeVos Center of Heritage
A federal district court judge in Colorado heard arguments yesterday regarding a motion for preliminary injunction in Newland v. Sebelius. Hercules Industries and the Newland family requested the injunction to halt the Obama Administration's implementation of its conscience-crushing contraception mandate.
At stake is whether family business owners like the Newlands will remain free to conduct business according to their convictions or be forced by the government to violate their beliefs.
William Newland founded the company in 1962 and built it into a successful business, now run by his family who continue to uphold its founding values. The company's mission statement promises to "nurture and maintain the culture of a family-owned business in which our employees grow financially, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually." The Newlands have omitted abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization from their employee insurance plan since before the mandate was finalized in February.
Hercules Industries would be required to begin offering the mandated coverage when its self-insured plan renews on November 1. Because Hercules is a private, for-profit business, it is excluded from the mandate's narrow religious exemption and, like all non-religious employers, is ineligible for a year-long "safe harbor" that simply delays the effects of the mandate.
Its attorneys at the Alliance Defending Freedom have requested an injunction barring the government's enforcement of the mandate against the company by August 1, the date by which it would need to begin making changes to its plan to comply with the mandate.
If the requested injunction is granted, it will be the first of its kind. Two separate lawsuits against the mandate were dismissed last week on procedural grounds. The Newland case is different because it goes directly to the merits of the religious freedom questions provoked by the government's mandate-whether the state will be permitted to exercise its coercive power over the conscience of every American who engages in business.
The Obama Administration has repeatedly pressed a narrow, privatized concept of religion and a cramped reading of religious freedom that attempts to confine this fundamental liberty to the four walls of the church on Sundays.
For example, in Hosanna-Tabor v. EEOC, President Barack Obama's Administration took the remarkable position that religious organizations are just like any other private association under our Constitution, regardless of the text of the First Amendment. That position drew a unanimous rebuke from the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Newland family's court case is no exception to the Administration's disappointing pattern. Here, it has attempted to graft onto the First Amendment a condition that would suspend its application in the business context, forcing business owners to abandon their religious and moral convictions as a condition of participating in commerce. The Administration does not appear to perceive religion as something that people of faith strive to live out daily in every aspect of their lives, however imperfectly.
By consistently adopting the most miserly interpretation of the religious freedom protections guaranteed by the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the Administration tramples upon this most fundamental American principle and only encourages further litigation.

Obamacare Falls Short of Promises to Uninsured
Two new reports out this week continue to knock down President Obama's promises about Obamacare: his "If you like your plan, you can keep it," and the promise to significantly shrink the ranks of the uninsured.
According to a new study from consulting firm Deloitte, almost one of out of 10 employers said they are going to drop coverage for their employees because of Obamacare, while another 10 percent said they "remain unsure" about what they are going to do. As the vast majority of Americans have health insurance through their workplaces, this is a huge blow.
This week the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) dealt another blow with its updated outlook on the health care law, as it attempted to integrate the Supreme Court's ruling into its projections.
Although Obamacare spends more than $1 trillion to get people covered, CBO predicts it will still leave 30 million Americans uninsured, falling far short of what was promised.
CBO's announcement said that Obamacare could cost less than originally projected-but the reason for the drop was that fewer people will be covered.
Even with the updated cost estimate, Heritage's Kate Nix explains: "The law will now add $1.17 trillion in new government spending over 10 years-paid for by massive tax hikes on all Americans and robbing money from the Medicare program."
Although President Obama campaigned on the dream of universal coverage, that remains simply a dream. In fact, each time the CBO has updated its projections, the number of uninsured under Obamacare increases. Read the rest on The Foundry >>

Yesterday, the Senate narrowly voted (51-48) to raise taxes on 1.2 million small businesses, which will likely kill more than 700,000 jobs at a time when nearly 13 million Americans are out of work. Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Jim Webb (D-VA) joined all Republicans in bipartisan opposition to the tax hike.
This is President Obama's economic plan. This is what he asked Congress to do. And he recently told a fundraising crowd that his economic plan has been working.
But Obama's Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, said yesterday that "the economy is not growing fast enough," acknowledging that "unemployment is very high." "The institutions with authority should be doing everything they can to try to make economic growth stronger," he said.
The President's plan, now endorsed by the Democratic majority in the Senate, has little chance of going anywhere in the House of Representatives. But it has put the 51 Senators who want to raise taxes on record.
Perhaps the biggest lie in the tax debate is that this vote affects only "the rich." That's simply not true. Many small businesses, known as flow-through businesses, pay their taxes through the individual income tax. Ernst and Young estimates that these types of businesses "employ 54% of the private sector work force." This tax hike squarely hits 1.2 million of these businesses that hire workers and have incomes above $200,000.
Rather than punishing just "the rich," as Heritage's Curtis Dubay notes, "By pinpointing his tax increase on incomes over $200,000, President Obama has maximized the detrimental impact that his tax increase would have on job creation."
The Ernst and Young study on the impact of this tax hike showed that it could kill more than 700,000 jobs. This isn't surprising, since the businesses it targets are some of the country's most robust job creators. But it is surprising that a majority of the Senate would go along with this plan when the country is suffering from 8.2 percent unemployment.
As if that weren't enough, the Senate's actions would also raise the death tax from 35 percent to 55 percent. This confiscatory rate would hit small businesses and family farms exceptionally hard. Dubay explains:
The death tax is often portrayed as a tax that only rich heirs pay. In reality, the death tax hits family-owned businesses hardest. These businesses are valuable on paper because they have many assets that they need to make and sell their products. But the businesses' book values are not representative of the families' liquid assets. When a family member passes on, these families often have to sell all or part of the business to raise the cash to pay the death tax. This slows the growth of these businesses and in some cases forces them to lay off existing workers.
The Senate's vote means we are no closer to preventing Taxmageddon, the nearly $500 billion tax increase scheduled to hit Americans on January 1. It is difficult to imagine the economy sustaining such a blow. Families will be hit with an average tax increase of more than $4,100 next year if Congress allows this to go forward. Instead of preventing this calamity, the Senate voted to raise taxes. It simply boggles the mind.
Rather than embrace school choice, President Obama plans to establish a new office by executive order today specifically to "coordinate the work of communities and federal agencies to ensure that African-American youngsters are better prepared for high school, college and career."
The CIA has said it has an "overlooked" stack of documents about the agency's cooperation with filmmakers depicting the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. These records were supposed to have been turned over to Judicial Watch in a Freedom of Information Act request.

Massive Farm and Food Stamp Bill
For the first time in 50 years, it appears the U.S. House will not take up a farm and food stamp bill passed out of committee - and that is a very good thing!
Much like the bill passed by the Senate, the House's farm and food stamp bill will cost taxpayers nearly $1 trillion over the next decade. How can a farm and food stamp bill cost $1 trillion? Because it funnels subsidies to some agriculture interests and throws cash at unreformed welfare programs like food stamps.
Conservatives - including many principled lawmakers in the House - are taking a stand against this "Soviet-style" bill, in the words of Speaker John Boehner. It's nothing more than an attack on free enterprise and personal liberty. However, some are now using this summer's ongoing drought as an excuse to push a five-year farm and food stamp bill through the House. It's typical Washington - using a "crisis" to expand government and take advantage of the taxpayer.
Despite the massive special-interest push to pass the farm and food stamp bill - special interest groups spent more than $173 million to lobbying Congress on the 2008 bill - the ground is fertile for change. The more conservatives know about the farm and food stamp bill, the more likely it is we can prevent yet another trillion dollar boondoggle.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham Chief Executive Officer Heritage Action for America
Yesterday, Senate Democrats voted 51-to-48 to raise taxes on small business owners, investors and entrepreneurs starting January 1, 2013, and on everyone else in 2014. The Senate bill also raises capital gains taxes to 20% and increases the death tax to 55% on family businesses, farms and estates valued at more than $1 million.
This vote was entirely symbolic. Tax legislation must originate in the House, and House Republicans are not going to pass a massive tax increase in the middle of this floundering economy. Good for them!
But it is a teachable moment for voters. Democrats are desperate to raise taxes in order to pay for their big government spending. The problem is there are not enough rich people to pay for it all.
According to a recent New York Times report, economists estimate that raising taxes on those making $250,000 and more would raise about $85 billion a year. Last year's federal deficit was $1,300 billion. So even after raising taxes on the rich, we're still $1,215 billion short. That's why Obama and his Democrat allies want to raise taxes on everyone else in 2014.
Emanuel's Values
Normally liberal Democrats don't like to talk about values, but Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a lot to say about values these days. Two weeks ago, Emanuel was lamenting the gang culture that has gripped his city.
He was right to condemn the "wrong values" of the gangbangers who are murdering innocent children in the streets. But now he's also condemning the values of many good and decent people in his city.
Mayor Emanuel weighed in on the Chick-fil-A controversy yesterday saying, "Chick-fil-A's values are not Chicago values. They're not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you're gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values."
In a city the size of Chicago, I'm sure there are a whole lot of folks who share Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's view that marriage is between a man and a woman. Perhaps the mayor would like to discuss values with Chicago's Cardinal Francis George or Dr. Erwin Lutzer of The Moody Church.
And when was the last time Rahm Emanuel stepped foot in a Chick-fil-A restaurant? Chick-fil-A's employees are known for their respectful and welcoming attitudes.
Before running for mayor, Rahm Emanuel served as the White House Chief of Staff to Barack Obama. Before that he was a top advisor to Bill Clinton. It was Bill Clinton who signed the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. And Barack Obama got elected telling the American people that he believed marriage was between a man and a woman. Emanuel gladly worked for two presidents who believed in traditional marriage.
Does this make Emanuel a hypocrite? No. It makes him a liar. I have no doubt that Emanuel knew Obama was lying in 2008 about his real views on marriage. After all, Obama had endorsed gay marriage in 1996, but then in 2008 claimed he favored normal marriage. Like Bill Clinton, Obama said whatever he had to in order to confuse just enough voters.
Lastly, think about the message the mayors of Boston and Chicago are sending not to Chick-fil-A but to every business owner in their communities and across the country. "If your religious views don't toe the liberal line, we'll crush your business! And, by the way, you didn't build that." That's extortion. Is that "Chicago values"?
If Emanuel and other liberal politicians will so abuse and twist zoning regulations because someone happens to take Genesis seriously -- that God created Adam and Eve -- what else might they do?
If these left-wing politicians can't get something as simple as marriage right, how can business owners expect them to implement commonsense tax policies? Looking at the fiscal condition of most Democrat-dominated states and cities, it seems pretty obvious that they can't!
No To Chick-fil-A, But Yes To Nation Of Islam?
Here's a good example of the left's moral confusion. While Mayor Emanuel is banning Chick-fil-A, he is reportedly welcoming help from Louis Farrakahn's Nation of Islam to combat gang violence. Explaining his position, Emanuel said, "People of faith have a role to play and community leaders have a role to play in helping to protect our neighborhoods and our citizens."
So let me get this straight: A businessman who believes in normal marriage is not allowed to create jobs in Chicago because his Christian views do not represent "Chicago values." But Farrakahn is allowed to police the city's streets in spite of his extensive history of anti-Semitism and prejudice. In Emanuel's mind, Dan Cathy is an intolerant, disrespectful bigot, but Louis Farrakahn of all people is a "man of faith" and a "community leader." Give me a break!
But Wait... There's More!
Big Obama supporter Roseanne Barr, that fount of wisdom, has chimed in too! Yesterday she tweeted: "anyone who eats S--t Fil-A deserves to get the cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ." How's that for tolerance and respect?

Obama sounds dictatorial yet again
Glenn talked on radio today about how President Obama is now joining the chorus of people who are using the Aurora tragedy to push gun control laws. Particularly alarming in his comments was yet another reference to the fact that he's 'taken some actions on our own' because Congress can be frustrating. Congress - who needs em! #notdictators WATCH
Obama manages to lie on his own birthday invitation: must be seen to be believed - view it HERE.
Ted Cruz responds to outlandish attack ad
There's a lower than low attack ad running against Tea Party favored candidate Ted Cruz in Texas this week that accuses Cruz of committing crimes against children. Cruz joined radio today to talk about just how ridiculous this attack ad is - could it be the worst of all time? Even worse than the epic Flemlaski vs. Velveeta battle? Find out here.
Who's the bigot: Christians? Or those attacking them?
An article came out yesterday that universally declared anyone who supported Chick-Fil-A, Christians, and believes in the traditional definition of marriage are bigots. No word yet if the author felt Obama was a bigot up until a few weeks ago when he flip-flopped on the issue. And no word if the author considers himself a bigot for ostracizing all believers. See the segment.
