Bachmann's Letter - Muslim Brotherhood Whitehouse Influence!
With all the CRAP surrounding Michelle Bachmann's request for an investigation into Whitehouse influence by the Muslim Brotherhood, I think it's about time for the TRUTH! Attached is Bachmann's formal letter sent to Rep. Keith Ellison, devout Muslim convert who took his oath of office as a US Congressman on the KORAN!
It is a disgrace that RINOs such as John McCain and John Boehner would attack Bachmann without ever having read her letter or understanding her request! It is time for RINOs to be voted out of office in November!!!
Always remember, Joe McCarthy turned out to be RIGHT! The Venona Papers released by the KGB in 1990 proved it! The best friend and confidante of FDR, Harry Hopkins, turned out to be a Russian agent!
Your gut instincts are the best! You know bullshit when you smell it!
Huma Abedin at center of Capitol Hill storm over Muslim Brotherhood
byAaron Klein
Hillary Clinton's chief-of-staff, Huma Abedin, worked on the editorial board of a Saudi-financed Islamic think tank alongside a Muslim extremist accused of financing al-Qaida fronts.
The extremist, Abdullah Omar Naseef, is deeply connected to the Abedin family.
Naseef is secretary-general of the Muslim World League, an Islamic charity known to have spawned terrorist groups, including one declared by the U.S. government to be an official al-Qaida front.
The lawmakers noted Huma Abedin "has three family members - her late father, mother and her brother - connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and/or organizations. Her position affords her routine access to the secretary and to policymaking."
Last week, Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner, who admitted he hadn't read the letters, defended Abedin, and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called the accusations "sinister" and "nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman, a dedicated American and a loyal public servant."
Chick-fil-A has come under fire from liberals who want to boycott this company for their support of traditional marriage and family. Gov. Mike Huckabee has organized a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, but the page for this was shut down by Facebook. Let's show our appreciation for Chick-fil-A by buying some of their heavenly sandwiches on Wednesday, August 1.
You've likely heard that Chick-fil-A has come under fire for supporting traditional marriage and the biblical understanding of the family.
But now it appears that the social media giant, Facebook, temporarily censored a grassroots effort to applaud and support the family-run business.
What's this all about?
Former Arkansas governor-turned-talk-show-host Mike Huckabee floated the idea of organizing a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" for August 1st. He talked about it on his FOX News TV show on Sunday, launched a Facebook page to promote it and by Tuesday morning had gathered over 100,000 supporters declaring their agreement with the concept.
By late Tuesday morning, however, the page was gone. It seems Facebook had removed it. After several news outlets pushed for an explanation, including Focus on the Family's Citizenlink, the page suddenly reappeared this morning. Just a few minutes ago a Facebook official emailed our team explaining the page was removed in error:
Yesterday, we mistakenly blocked an event as part of our spam prevention efforts and quickly worked to rectify the mistake as soon as we were notified.
Nevertheless, what's so controversial about encouraging people to express their support for a privately run business?
Absolutely nothing, if you ask me. But consider Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's initial remarks that sparked the furor in the first place:
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):
New PBS Documentary Homeland: Immigration in America
Homeland: Immigration in America is a three episode documentary series that explores one of the most polarizing issues facing America today.
A PBS Election 2012 national special, the series is narrated by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for PBS NewsHour, and produced by the Nine Network of Public Media in St. Louis.
Friday, July 27 on your local PBS station: "Enforcement" cuts through the heated rhetoric to explore how communities and the nation struggle to enforce inconsistent immigration policies. One story explains why two Kansas City beat cops have adopted a "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward legal status, knowing that aggressive enforcement threatens to break community trust when illegal and legal immigrants live side by side, often in the same family.
Robertson, along with co-host David Toy, Jim Seigfreid, Allen and Peggy as we confront the issues of the day with Constitutional solutions to the problems we were warned about by the Founders of this, the greatest nation to ever shine a light on the world. Our guests include some of the best and the brightest commentators and Patriots around.
Glenn heard your requests and decided to make the GBTV documentary, Rumors of War III: Target U.S., available on DVD! As a GBTV Plus subscriber you can watch this stunning documentary on demand. Glenn said this is one of the most important hours of television he has been a part of yet - now you have the chance to own the DVD and share it with your friends and family.
America is under attack and the enemy isn't an ocean away, it's much closer than you think. The problem is 99% of Americans don't know it. This documentary brings you THE TRUTH about what's really happening on our borders. The connections revealed between the Muslim Brotherhood and top ranking positions in our government are unbelievable. The War on Terror is NOT over.We can't rely on "honest" journalists to get this information to the public, so we are counting on YOU.

Just in: Contempt of Congress AG Eric Holder has ordered the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate
Pennsylvania's newly enactedVoter ID law--adding an additional hurdle for the law to overcome if it's to be implemented on election day, Tuesday, November 6.
The timing of the investigation is quite suspect since a Commonwealth Court hearing challenging the law is set to begin in Harrisburg this Wednesday, July 25.
The hearing, expected to last 5-7 days, is open to the public. (We encourage you to attend if possible--details below.)
And what usual suspects do we find standing behind the lawsuit? Why the
American Civil Liberties Union and their allies, of course.
The Voter ID law, which enhances voter integrity by making voter fraud more difficult to conduct, was signed by Gov. Tom Corbett earlier this year. Its passage has obviously frightened the Obama administration and its cohorts.
In other matters: Association member Barb Campbell has forwarded a general request by Gov. Mike Huckabee to make Wednesday, August 1, 'Chick Fil-A Appreciation Day.'
In line with our Black Friday BuyCott (2011) and Whole Foods BuyCott (2009), we'll call this our 'Chick Fil-A BuyCott, 2012.'
In Gov. Huckabee's own words:
"....The goal is simple: Let's affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick Fil-A on Wednesday, August 1....
"This effort is not being launched by the Chick Fil-A company....
Simply affirm [your] appreciation for a company run by Christian principles by showing up on Wednesday, August 1 or by participating online--tweeting your support or sending a message on Facebook."
Commonwealth Court Hearing on Voter ID
When: Wednesday, July 25, 10 AM.
(Hearing to last several more days--beginning at 9 AM.)
Where: Courtroom 3002, Pennsylvania Judicial Center, 601
Commonwealth Ave., Harrisburg, PA.
Who: Hearing before Judge Robert Simpson and open to the public.
We'll try to arrange car pools for those who are interested in
attending. Please let us know if you are driving and would like
company or are in need of a ride by calling 215.663.1983.
Many thanks!
Chick Fil-A BuyCott
When: Wednesday, August 1, during restaurant hours.
Where: Your neighborhood Chick Fil-A.
Hope to see you!

From Peter Friedman:
Now that I have walked precincts and spoken with voters, and presented my new lecture "Community Organizing to Win Elections!" numerous times, I can give you this empirical info on how we can win in 2012! If you attend neighborhood meetings, town halls, or just speak with your neighbors and friends, use the following tactic:
"Are you better off than you were four years ago? I'm not! I'm paying twice as much for gas and food. I have had to cut back on things I used to do and buy four years ago. I used to go out to eat three to four times each week, but now I can only go a few times a week because I'm paying so much more for everything!"
Use this analogy regarding the 2012 election when you speak to voters:
"Do you have a 401K or stock portfolio? You know, America is just like a business. If you bought stock in a company four years ago such as Apple, and they hired a new CEO right after, and during the past four years that new CEO ruined the company so that your stock went down in value, what do think should happen to that incompetent CEO? If you could, would you attend the annual stockholder's meeting and vote that incompetent CEO out? Would you vote to hire a more competent CEO? Of course you would!
America has an "annual stockholder's meeting" every four years! It is our Presidential Election! We are all stockholders in America, and it is our responsibility to have competent management running America ds that our "stock" in America increases in value! "
I have used this analogy in walking precincts and have changed the hearts and minds of voters by appealing to logic, reason, and their pocketbook! People vote with their wallets!
PRINT THIS OUT AND CARRY IT AROUND WITH YOU TO USE IN CONVERSATIONS!!!
All talking points when addressing voters or interviewers should only deal with "money" issues! The concept is, "Are you better off today than you were four years ago?"
Question: Why has the current administration removed food and gas from the Inflation Index?
Answer: To fool US! Removing food and gas from the Inflation Index shows that very little inflation is present benefitting the admninistration's propaganda. How much more are WE paying for such things as a gallon of gas - more than double what it was when Obama was elected - and basic food such as milk, cheese, meat, and fish? Do you think Obama refusing to allow oil drilling off the West and East coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, and Alaska has driven up the price of gas?
Question:Do you know how much California pays public schools for each student?
Answer:California pays more than $14,000 for each student, $67 BILLION a year. If there are an average of 25 students in each public school classroom, that equals $350,000 per classroom. The average wage for a California elementary school teacher is approximately $50,000. That leaves $300,000 per classroom. Where's the money? Why do parents have to give teachers money each year to buy supplies like paper and pencils? Where's the money? Pensions? Benefits?
Question:Does the Government abuse their credit card?
Answer:At the end of each month WE must pay at least the minimum on each credit card. If WE don't pay the balance off each month, the credit card company charges US interest on the amount WE don't pay. At some point WE will discover that OUR balances are so high that WE will never be able to pay off OUR credit card debt, and must declare bankruptcy. Our government continues to borrow $.40 of every dollar spent! This is a "credit card" WE can never pay off! It has to stop!
Question:How much is Obama's portion of the National Debt, really?
Answer:Do WE as taxpayers really owe that $5 TRILLION dollars that Obama ran up? In fact, WE taxpayers owe $10 TRILLION dollars, not just $5 TRILLION! What did WE taxpayer's get for that $5 TRILLION dollars of any value to offset that $5 TRILLION debt? Apparently nothing! Money doesn't disappear into thin air - it goes somewhere to somebody! Wouldn't you like to know who got it?
Without this information YOU are powerless to change anything. Elected officials do NOT want you to have that information because you could hold them accountable. I bet a lot of them would wind up in prison! It is in their interest to keep you in the dark. It is up to you to turn on the lights!

STOP the Smartmeter NOW
Dear Patriots,
Just to make you aware, Smartmeters are here. After thorough investigation and talking with PECO, they are currently installing Smartmeters in PA. Several people have contacted PECO and told them that we did not want the Smartmeter. Their response is they run the risk of having their electricity turned off.
Just a background on Smartmeters: In 2008, Act 129 was passed and signed into law by Governor Rendell to make Smartmeters mandatory in PA. How will this affect you? You will be required to install a smart meter in your home which will be monitored by your electric company on a minute to minute basis. The video below explains how the smartmeter was started and where they plan to go with this which will be monitored constantly (new utilities will have smart meter chips in them.
Do you want PECO or the Government monitoring your electricity usage? If this is such a great thing, why is it being forced upon us and if not taken, you take the risk of having your power turned off. Once on the grid, the government through PECO will be able to monitor each and control all of your electric utilities. Do you want the department of energy monitoring your usage of electric via PECO and possibly turning off your electric and certain peak hours (as explained in this video).
What you can do: Representative Reese from Westmoreland County has introduced two bills whichare in the Consumer Affairs Committee. ONE BILL WOULD ALLOW FOR OPTING OUT OF GETTING A SMART METER THE OTHER BILL WOULD REQUIRE CONSUMER CONSENT BEFORE INFORMATION FROM THE METER COULD BE SHARED WITH A GOVERNMENT AGENCY. Please contact the people listed in the link and let them know that we want these bills brought to the floor for the vote. This is our local electric company being used for the UN Agenda 21 (Sustainable Development). We need everyone's involvement so pass on to everyone you know. Let's make an effort to get this out of committee.
I have contacted PECO and told them not to install a smartmeter on my house. I would suggest doing the same with your electric company. They need a loud outcry from the american people. I will also be putting this sticker on my meter. I will be editing the wording down below, but here it is.

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.
Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.
Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:
For Tea Parties, this can be used as basic ammunition for letters to the editor, columns for your local news outlet, handouts at public events, emailing the pdf to our elected reps as well as to members, friends and neighbors.
This appears to be an excellent resource; let's make use of it.

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
Years ago, our own Dan McLaughlin defined "swiftboating" as "Accurately quoting a Democratic politician's own words."
By that definition, President Obama is being swiftboated up a creek without a paddle right now, as constant repetition of his own words has the campaigner-in-chief and every attack dog he can muster working day and night to "clarify" his remarks on small business.
Gallup did a voter enthusiasm poll, and the results are either gorgeous or hideous, depending on how you look at them. Essentially, it goes like this:
In 2004, Democratic voter enthusiasm was at 68% and Republican voter enthusiasm was at 51%. The GOP happened to win that election, sort-of kind of in a squeaker; then again, this poll is of adults, so you can expect a skew towards the Democrats.
In 2008, the Democrats dropped to 61%... and the Republicans plummeted to 35%. The GOP proceeded to lose that election, and not in a squeaker. It was, in fact, almost a rout.
And today, in 2012? The Democrats' voter enthusiasm is 39%... while the Republicans are back to 51%.
The Romney campaign today has requested an investigation into potential election fraud in Virginia, a Key battle-ground state.
The request was necessary because of the shenanigans of the DC-based Voter Participation Center which has mailed voter-registration forms to deceased relatives, children, and even pets.
As we approach the 1-year anniversary of the disastrous debt ceiling deal hatched late last July, it is worthwhile to reflect on what we have gained from that legislation. On August 1, 2011, the House passed the Budget Control Act with support of 72% of the Republican conference. The Senate followed suit on August 2, with support of 60% of the Republican conference.
Buoyed by their opposition to Obamacare and Obama's profligate expansion of government spending, Republicans had a unique opportunity to exact concession from Democrats by refusing to raise the debt ceiling without a parallel agreement for a balanced budget plan. Instead of using their leverage to impel transformation change, Republicans grounded into a double play by boxing themselves into a corner - the sequester corner that they are stuck in today.

UN Treaty Mischief on Disabilities
July 25, 2012
by Phyllis Schlafly
The United Nations in collusion with Obama's globalists have cooked up another scheme to slice off a piece of U.S. sovereignty and put us under global government. The plan is to stampede the Senate into ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
'What?' Confused 911 caller outs NYPD spying in NJ
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - It's an audiotape the New York Police Department hoped you would never hear.
A building superintendent at an apartment complex just off the Rutgers University campus called the New Brunswick Police 911 line in June 2009. He said his staff had been conducting a routine inspection and came across something suspicious.
"What's suspicious?" the dispatcher asked.
"Suspicious in the sense that the apartment has about - has no furniture except two beds, has no clothing, has New York City Police Department radios."
"Really?" the dispatcher asked, her voice rising with surprise.
The caller, Salil Sheth, had stumbled upon one of the NYPD's biggest secrets: a safe house, a place where undercover officers working well outside the department's jurisdiction could lie low and coordinate surveillance. Since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, the NYPD, with training and guidance from the CIA, has monitored the activities of Muslims in New York and far beyond. Detectives infiltrated mosques, eavesdropped in cafes and kept tabs on Muslim student groups, including at Rutgers.
Obama's new plan to grant temporary work permits to many young, illegal immigrants who otherwise could be deported may cost more than $585 million and require hiring hundreds of new federal employees to process more than 1 million anticipated requests, according to internal documents obtained by The AP.

For some, patriotism is antediluvian, an idea that holds Americans back from international cooperation. I see it differently. Patriotism allows us to understand who we are and what our mission may be.
The media and John McCain - in a grotesque display triggered by a question Rep. Bachmann and four other House Republicans raised about a Clinton aide's family connections to the Islamic supremacist group, the Muslim Brotherhood - should be ashamed of their dereliction.
Iranian assets positioned in the United States have been activated and are actively working to acquire intelligence and equipment that might be useful in terror attacks, according to a former member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

DOJ: Family Can't Run Their Business as Catholics By Terence P. This 'n That By Rich Galen If U.S unemployment remains above 8 percent or, worse yet, ticks up from its current top-line rate of 8.2 percent, it will be very difficult for the Obama campaign to blame the economic situation on Romney's tax returns.
Let's skip over the issues for a moment and get back to the basics. Elections are transactions in which we buy the services of a candidate for four years. Like any other business deal, closing comes down to salesmanship.
There are two basic elements when buying a product or service.
1. Practical. "I need this product."
2. Emotional. "This product makes me feel good."
Smart shoppers will make a practical decision, but not everyone is a smart shopper. And even smart shoppers employ emotional elements. Many people will buy a product because of their associations with this brand, even if the brand only exists as a logo stamped on products by workers in Shanghai. Most people want to feel good about the product that they're buying, they want to feel comfortable with their purchase.
This is where the media plays its most insidious role, providing reassurance to Obama buyers that they are doing the right thing and damping their unease, while doing just the opposite for Romney buyers. The media can't compel someone to vote one way or another, but it can encourage bad decisions and discourage good decisions by providing false levels of confidence through their reporting.
Romney has the same problem as a company with a good product, but bad media coverage. The way to counter that is on two fronts, by providing practical consumers with the specifications to help them make informed decisions, and providing emotional consumers with the reassurance that they can count on him.

A New York Times article has revealed that Administration-related "news" reported by the national press corps must first be approved for publication by Barack Hussein Obama.
Times contributor Jeremy Peters has revealed that, in exchange for access to White House officials, reporters must promise the Administration full authority to exclude, redact or edit any and all statements made by those officials. This provides Obama with "veto power" over information printed by a purportedly free and vigilant, American media. (1)
Certainly, Jeremy Peters must be congratulated for bringing this information to the American public. But the way in which he presents this despicable story of media manipulation is perhaps even more revealing than the story itself. For according to Peters, members of the press corps have been "reluctant" to yield dominion over their journalistic autonomy to the White House. " 'We don't like the practice,' said Dean Baquet, managing editor for news ... Continue Reading:White House tells media what to print, edits "news" prior to publication

No Taxation by Misrepresentation: Rejecting the Dishonest Obamacare Tax
In his brief, in-depth essay, "No Taxation by Misrepresentation: Rejecting the Dishonest Obamacare Tax," former Speaker of the House and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich examines whether President Obama has been honest with the American people about the tax at the heart of Obamacare. Gingrich considers what President Obama told the public when he was trying to pass the health care bill and contrasts it with the arguments his administration made before the Supreme Court to defend the law. He then reveals the stunning claims made by President Obama and his allies since the Supreme Court ruling -- asking whether an American president has the power to rewrite history and alter forever the bond between the people and their elected representatives.
Gingrich follows his essay with three appendices cataloging statements made by President Obama, his lawyers, his staffers and surrogates about the Obama Tax. You can see the "evolution" of the Obama position play out in their own words. This book and its appendices are an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to understand the best case against the President this fall.
I feel awful about what happened in Colorado, but can we stop the hugging and the teddy bears? Just as society can become inured to violence, it can also become inured to sentiment. There is nothing so hackneyed in the world of photojournalism as pictures of the hugging and the shrines with candles and teddy bears after a tragedy, with a piano softly trilling in the background.
This accomplishes nothing. If you want to do something, please write a check to a good charity, a family financially harmed by the shooting, or send flowers to a specific person.
It is also not helpful to have politicians and television personalities pledging not to discuss the alleged shooter. Unlike most news, that information serves an actual purpose, such has helping us recognize warning signs in other potential mass murderers in the future.
Only people who are themselves obsessed with being famous could imagine that any kind of fame - even infamy - is some kind of a reward. Thus, President Barack Obama and MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, among others, have vowed to punish the suspect by not mentioning his name.
"How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission" is the alternate title of "A Simple Desultory Philippic," the jokey Paul Simon song that appears on Simon and Garfunkel's 1966 album, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme. This year the Democrats could update Simon's subtitle with a reference to Cory Booker rather than Robert McNamara.
The latest Booker'd specimen is Senator Dianne Feinstein, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. When it comes to intelligence issues, Senator Feinstein's position suggests that she knows what she's talking about.
Speaking at a World Affairs Council forum on Monday, Feinstein attributed partial responsibility for the recent torrent of leaks of classified information to the White House (video here). Feinstein said she "think[s] the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks."
Mitt Romney picked up on Feinstein's statement in his speech to the VFW yesterday. Well, of course, that can't be allowed to stand. Senator Feinstein was Cory Booker'd into submission. By yesterday afternoon, she was engaging in the ritual self-denunciation that is required. Senator Feinstein issued the following statement:
I am disappointed by the statements made by Mr. Romney today regarding a question I was asked yesterday at the World Affairs Council.
I was asked whether the White House might be responsible for recent national security leaks. I stated that I did not believe the president leaked classified information. I shouldn't have speculated beyond that, because the fact of the matter is I don't know the source of the leaks.
I'm on record as being disturbed by these leaks, and I regret my remarks are being used to impugn President Obama or his commitment to protecting national security secrets. I know for a fact the president is extremely troubled by these leaks. His administration has moved aggressively to appoint two independent U.S. attorneys. There is an investigation under way, and it is moving forward quickly.
I know we are in a campaign season, but I hope the investigation proceeds without political accusation or interference from anyone.
But no. By far the best "Is-It-The-Onion-Or-A-Real-Newspaper?" head turner is the lead story in today's print edition of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, about the ongoing search for explanations of the Aurora shooting rampage: "Experts Still Perplexed." (The headline doesn't seem to appear on the RJ's webpage, for some reason.) Really? The subhed is even better: "Brain scientists in suspect's class may not have seen signs." This is why I love journalism. I'm sure Brian Ross (Brain Loss?) would have figured it out.
Of course, maybe "the experts" might have had a clue before hand if they'd simply . . . opened their mail. God save us from "experts."
The Obama campaign is reeling from the fallout over the president's demand that small business people pay higher taxes because they owe their success to the government. In a few unscripted minutes, Obama, by saying what he really thinks, dealt his own campaign a severe blow. Today groups of small business owners in 24 cities rallied against Obama:
The Romney campaign has been heavily pressing their "you didn't build that" attacks for the past ten days and Wednesday is their biggest push yet with events with small business owners in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Nevada. ...
In events at small businesses in locations as varied as Waukesha, Wis. to Palm Beach, Fla. to Columbus, Ohio, entrepreneurs will express their anger at the "you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen" line.
Lou Ramos, a small business owner from Tampa, will be at his local event. He owns an information technology and computer training company called Value Enterprise Solutions, Inc. and he said the president's comments made him "almost throw up when I heard it."
Ramos is a 64 year old Hispanic veteran, serving in the military from 1973-97, including two tours at the Pentagon, and he said he did read and watch all of the president's comments in context, not just the two sentences continually highlighted by the campaign.
"I heard the whole thing and I read it," Ramos told ABC News, mentioning he did like Obama when he spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. "I heard the whole thing...The guy was talking sincere...This guy thinks success is about government hand outs and not perseverance."
Caught on tape, Obama has no rejoinder except the lame assertion that his inflammatory words were taken "out of context." In Raleigh, rally participants pounced on that evasion:
[Former Raleigh mayor and North Carolina GOP chairman Tom Fetzer] read the speech the President gave earlier this month in Roanoke, Virginia word for word during the event, to underscore they weren't taking it out of context.
"If you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own," he read.
But it was the line, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen," that offended so many Americans.
"I didn't take it out of context, I just, I think it was a jab. I don't know why," Snoopy's co-owner Larry Cerilli said.
Snoopy's co-owner put up this sign:
This group was in Tampa:
This is, obviously, a good theme for Republicans. I'm sure the Obama campaign hopes it won't have to produce too many more "I don't hate small business" ads.
I've written before here about what I call the "FedEx Indicator"-i.e., what package delivery traffic can tell us about the direction of the economy. The FedEx indicator has been flashing yellow for months, with FedEx dropping plane fights and delaying new airplane purchases.
Well now FedEx's chief rival, UPS, is flashing the same warning signal, as reported this morning in the Wall Street Journal:
United Parcel Service reported tepid growth for the second quarter and reduced its profit forecast for the full year, saying customer confidence has been rattled by the European debt crisis and the U.S. "fiscal cliff" looming early next year.
The Atlanta-based shipping giant also continued to wrestle with soft demand for exports from Asia, and its U.S. domestic volume growth was fueled primarily by relatively low-value e-commerce shipments, which crimped revenue. . .
The company said it is planning another 10% reduction in its air capacity out of Asia after cutting the network by a similar amount in October because of steeper-than-expected declines in exports from the region to the U.S. and Europe. Asian exports to the U.S. and Europe slumped by a double-digit percentage basis in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, another story this morning caught my eye. As we've all heard, this summer's hot weather and drought conditions have hammered the corn crop. The Journal reports this morning that leading meat packer Smithfield Foods is importing corn from Brazil. (The story suggests that Tyson Foods is probably doing the same thing.) An American food company needing to import corn to meet its needs is like Saudi Arabia needing to import oil. Of course, maybe if we weren't diverting roughly half our corn crop to make ethanol we wouldn't see shortages and high prices, even with a drought.
I wonder, by the way, whether we're getting shipped our Amazon-grown corn by . . . Amazon.com?
The Congressional Budget Office has re-scored Obamacare in light of the Supreme Court's decision. The CBO finds that the decision's impact is fairly minimal - about 3 million fewer Americans insured in ten years, and about $84 billion less in spending over the next ten years (out of a total of about $1.7 trillion in spending on the law's coverage provisions) than would otherwise have happened.
Yuval Levin is not persuaded. First, CBO does not offer specific state-decision scenarios on which states will reject the Medicaid expansion. Instead, it offers an average of an unknown number of scenarios with an unpublished range of outcomes. This "helps to minimize the appearance of uncertainty and the sense that the Court decision dramatically affected the range of plausible outcomes, though it surely did."
Second, CBO assigns essentially no effect to the Court's decision that the mandate does not involve a penalty, just a tax. But the CBO's original analysis was based on its assessment of the extent to which people would comply with a requirement (supported by a penalty) that they buy insurance. On this basis, CBO made what Levin calls very optimistic assumptions about compliance:
The insurance reforms in Obamacare create huge incentives for young and healthy Americans to avoid purchasing health insurance until they get sick. CBO originally projected that the vast majority of these people would still buy coverage, despite the mandate's low penalty (relative to the cost of insurance), and in doing so the agency relied to a significant extent on evidence from behavioral economics suggesting that people obey legal requirements even when the penalty for doing otherwise is low.
The Roberts decision last month, for all its considerable incoherence, would seem to close off that particular argument, since it plainly stated that the mandate could no longer be understood as a mandate but only as a tax on the uninsured. Would a $695 tax make you buy a $5,000 insurance policy if you knew you could get the policy for the same price later if you needed it?
Thus, although the Court's decision probably won't significantly affect the number of uninsured who buy insurance, it does undercut the CBO's original estimate of that number, showing that CBO probably overestimated it considerably. Yet CBO clings to its original number.
But even if the CBO is right in its highly optimistic re-scoring, we still have a huge problem. Levin explains:
The agency projects that the federal government will spend about $1.7 trillion, increase taxes by about a trillion dollars, and cut Medicare spending by more than $700 billion without any real structural reforms of the program (though it's hard imagine that last one would actually happen in practice). It will create yet another unsustainable health-care entitlement program, expand the existing ones, micromanage the insurance industry in ways likely to make it even less efficient, employ even heavier price controls of the sort that have always failed in Medicare, and (especially through its taxes) stifle employment, investment, and medical research. And after all this, even the CBO's very optimistic assumptions leave it concluding that 30 million Americans will be uninsured a decade from now-so we will have gone from today's 80% coverage to 89% in 2023. If that's what the Left means by universal coverage, there are far, far less costly and counterproductive ways to get there.
Indeed.
JOHN adds: Jeff Sessions, ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, has just released this statement on the CBO's re-scoring of Obamacare:
CBO has now told us that total spending on only the coverage provisions of the President's health law is $1.7 trillion-a far cry from his promised price tag of $900 billion. But once the accounting tricks are removed-such as the delayed implementation of the major spending provisions-we know the law will cost more than two and half trillion dollars over its first full 10-year window beginning in 2014. Over the long term, it will add $17 trillion to our nation's unfunded liabilities-more than double that of Social Security. Repealing this 2,700-page monstrosity is an essential step in order to restore fiscal sustainability to our nation.
The score continues to cite the lower cost of the first two years when the law is not implemented. More importantly, it double counts over $400 billion in new revenue-one of the biggest accounting gimmicks of all time. Further, the CBO analysis does not take into account implementation costs or the cost of the 'Doc Fix,' which alone amounts to another $300 billion. I am amazed that the CBO score omits these facts.
For CBO to contend that this law will create a surplus is a colossal misstatement of reality. This kind of cost analysis helps explain why the nation is going broke.
The press reflexively refers to the Congressional Budget Office as the "nonpartisan CBO." A recent study of political contributions by employees of the CBO sheds light on that characterization. If I have time, I will get to that later in the day.
Tell Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey: Slow Down Massive Immigration to Save Jobs for Unemployed Pennsylvania Residents
Even as hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania workers are struggling to find a job, Congress has continued to issue 125,000 new work visas a month to immigrants and other foreign workers. This equals 1.5 million new foreign workers each year, who compete directly with Pennsylvania residents for a very limited number of Pennsylvania's jobs.
Who benefits from allowing 1.5 million new foreign workers into the U.S. each year? Certainly not the 484,000 residents of Pennsylvania who are currently unemployed. Unfortunately, Sens. Casey and Toomey have done nothing to reduce the number of foreign workers to the U.S. And as a result, unemployed Pennsylvania workers continue to suffer.
This continued failure to stand up for jobless Pennsylvania residents by Sens. Casey and Toomey is inexcusable. Your fellow unemployed Pennsylvania workers need more opportunities. Please don't delay. Send the critical message below to Pennsylvania Sens. Casey and Toomey today, urging them to reduce immigration to a more sensible level. This is a completely free service. There is no cost to you.
Our nation has a proud and rich immigration tradition. However, we need to move our immigration policies into the 21st century.
With unemployment numbers still high and our nation struggling to control its national debt, it is time for Congress to consider reducing overall immigration numbers.
The United States gives new work permits to 1.5 million immigrants and other foreign workers each year--not including the illegal aliens who arrive. When our nation is trillions in debt and has a shortage of millions of jobs, there is simply no way to justify these numbers. Taxpayers end up subsidizing the Americans who lose their jobs because of immigration.
Please support measures that would end illegal immigration and reduce legal immigration to sensible numbers. The American people are counting on you to do the right thing. Please don't let us down.
There is a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll out that is making a lot of headlines today. And I want to take it apart for you because it is a bunch of junk. According to the poll, Barack Obama is leaving Mitt Romney in the dust. In June the candidates were basically tied, but now the claim is that Obama is leading by six points -- 49%-to-43% -- and closing in on that ever crucial 50% mark.
That's terrible news for Team Romney, right? Wrong! Let's take a closer look at the data. Obama's 6-point lead comes from a survey that oversampled Democrats by 11 points!
It is unimaginable that Democrats would have such an advantage at the polls on Election Day. As Breitbart.com reports, that is "a level we haven't seen in the electorate since the post-Watergate GOP meltdown." In fact, Gallup is currently reporting a massive 12-point enthusiasm gap between Republicans and Democrats when it comes to voting this November, and it's Democrats who are demoralized right now!
But even with that biased sample, there are bright spots in the poll for Romney.
Only 32% of registered voters think the country is headed in the right direction, while 60% say America is "on the wrong track" under Obama's leadership.
Only 44% of voters approve of Obama's handling of the economy, while 53% disapprove. And that's supposed to be the biggest issue of this campaign, right?
When asked what worries them most about the future of the country, the decline of moral values tied with the growing federal deficit. (Note to the Romney campaign: Don't neglect values issues!)
55% of voters are less optimistic about the direction of the economy.
By a nearly 2-to-1 margin, voters think Obama is running a more negative campaign than Mitt Romney. That makes sense because Obama can't campaign on his record, which voters disapprove of and don't have much hope for anymore.
Things got really interesting when the pollsters tried to measure Obama's popularity versus his policies. Two-thirds of voters said they liked Obama personally. The media have repeatedly seized on such findings to suggest that Obama is cruising toward reelection, if not sainthood. But 55% said they disapprove of many of Obama's policies!
Think about that. If you need surgery, what's most important to you: your doctor's personality or his skill? If you're going on a business trip, do you care more about your pilot's sense of humor or his competence?
While Obama's 6-point lead among registered voters made the headlines, when the pollsters narrowed it down to "high interest voters," those most likely to vote, Romney led 48%-to-46%. That fact got buried in the tenth paragraph of the NBC News report.
Normally, my friends, I would tell you to dismiss this biased poll as worthless. But I think it is very valuable as an example of how the media uses polling to mold public opinion, not to measure it. It shows us just how desperate the media elites are to cause us to sink into despair, while doing everything they can to convince liberals that all is well.
Obama Stung By Anti-Business Gaffe
When Barack Obama said that small business owners weren't responsible for their success, the Romney campaign rightly jumped on those revealing remarks. Obama and his socialist friends have been clearly stung by the damage.
Obama has produced a response ad pretending he never said it, and a left-wing news site reports that Democrats are going "nuclear" against Romney's use of Obama's anti-business remark. Clearly, they are running scared. They know Romney has drawn blood.
Friends, let me remind you of the facts. In his autobiography, Obama said he chose his friends carefully. Whom did he choose? "The Marxist professors and structural feminists." Interesting choice.
In his early runs for political office, he sought support from and was endorsed by the socialist New Party. Why?
He sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for nearly 20 years. What about Wright's left-wing, anti-American theology held Obama's attention for so long?
In 2008 Obama told Joe the Plumber he wanted to "spread the wealth around." Now he's attacking individual success and accomplishment, sounding every bit like a die-hard collectivist who hung out with "Marxist professors and structural feminists." And, for whatever reason, Hugo Chavez thinks Obama's a really good guy.
If I were in the Obama campaign, I'd be worried too!
The Culture War
Here's the latest marker of the decline of Western Civilization. A hotel in England has decided to replace the Gideon Bibles it used to provide in every room. According to the hotel's owners, no one reads the Bible and many dislike it. So the Bibles are being thrown out, and they are being replaced with "Fifty Shades of Grey."
What a commentary on our modern culture! God's instruction manual for life is out, and a book that suggests women like being physically dominated and abused is in. Somehow, I suspect the feminists would be up in arms if the author were a man.
Meanwhile, back here in the states, the left's assault on Chick-fil-A is mounting. Radical homosexual activists are planning to stage nationwide protests on August 3rd with "Same-Sex Kiss Day." But here's something even more disturbing.
Chicago Alderman Proco Moreno is vowing to prevent the construction of a new Chick-fil-A store. Even though Chick-fil-A has already obtained a permit, Moreno is promising to block needed zoning approval. "You have the right to say what you want to say, but zoning is not a right," Moreno said.
Think about that, my friends. Chick-fil-A is not refusing to serve homosexuals. Yet just because of the deeply held religious beliefs of the company's owners, this religious bigot is standing in the way of creating new jobs and a popular service for his constituents.
Now remember, we are talking about Chicago -- the same city where each weekend dozens are shot and stabbed by thugs, and where most minority children are being raised in fatherless homes. But to this Democrat alderman, the big threat is not bullets or absent fathers -- it is a fast food chicken company whose president believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
Men and women of faith must fight back!
You can start now by showing your support for Chick-fil-A. I'm proud to join Governor Mike Huckabee and other pro-family organizations in supporting Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on August 1st. But we can't stop there. We must defend our values at the voting booth on November 6th by supporting candidates who are unapologetically pro-family and pro-life!
JULY 25, 2012 Operation Fast and Furious: From a Botched Investigation to a Scandal... and a Fight over Executive Privilege
While the Department of Justice initially told Congress that ATF agents did not allow guns to walk into Mexico, the truth eventually came out: Gunwalking was at the heart of Operation Fast and Furious. Whistleblowers, who have been cooperating with Congress's investigation, claim that they have been retaliated against and that the Department of Justice's priority appears to be protecting senior political officials from fallout over the scandal.
In the face of subpoenas issued by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the Department of Justice has turned over a small fraction of the responsive documents that it has in its possession, and many that have been produced are so heavily redacted as to be useless.
For his refusal to produce thousands of pages of documents subpoenaed by Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt. Some have labeled this investigation a "partisan witch hunt," while others believe that the Administration is involved in a major cover-up.
The President has now invoked executive privilege with respect to some of these documents. Whether President Barack Obama's assertion of executive privilege over some of these documents is proper remains to be seen, but the American people and the victims' families deserve some answers.
Dennis v. Kellogg's: The Lawyers Chowing Down Case
When Kellogg's promoted a study about young students' better attentiveness when they eat breakfast, California resident Harry Dennis sued claiming "false advertising." Initially, a lower court ruled in Dennis' favor - with a payout awarding trial lawyers $2,100 an hour for the juvenile lawsuit! Fortunately for justice, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recently threw out the frivolous settlement.
The Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is the nation's most broadly supported public policy organization. Heritage created the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies in 2001 to educate government officials, the media and the public about the Constitution, legal principles and how they affect public policy.
Two new reports out yesterday continue to knock down President Obama's promises about Obamacare: his "If you like your plan, you can keep it," and the promise to significantly shrink the ranks of the uninsured.
According to a new study from consulting firm Deloitte, almost one of out of 10 employers said they are going to drop coverage for their employees because of Obamacare, while another 10 percent said they "remain unsure" about what they are going to do. As the vast majority of Americans have health insurance through their workplaces, this is a huge blow.
Yesterday the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) dealt another blow with its updated outlook on the health care law, as it attempted to integrate the Supreme Court's ruling into its projections.
Although Obamacare spends more than $1 trillion to get people covered, CBO predicts it will still leave 30 million Americans uninsured, falling far short of what was promised.
CBO's announcement said that Obamacare could cost less than originally projected-but the reason for the drop was that fewer people will be covered.
Even with the updated cost estimate, Heritage's Kate Nix explains: "The law will now add $1.17 trillion in new government spending over 10 years-paid for by massive tax hikes on all Americans and robbing money from the Medicare program."
Although President Obama campaigned on the dream of universal coverage, that remains simply a dream. In fact, each time the CBO has updated its projections, the number of uninsured under Obamacare increases. Nix breaks it down:
Since day one, it's been clear that Obamacare will not achieve universal coverage, and every time CBO revisits the law, the numbers show just that. In March 2010, when the law passed, CBO predicted that there would be 22 million people still without insurance in 2019. In March 2012, the estimate increased to 27 million in 2022. Now, the number has once again increased-to 30 million. So Obamacare leaves just as many people uninsured as it covers.
"It leaves just as many people uninsured as it covers" wouldn't have been a very convincing slogan for the lawmakers who believed that Obamacare would help the uninsured.
Even this CBO projection is merely a guess. The agency is guessing what will happen now that states aren't being forced to expand their Medicaid programs. Though the Supreme Court allowed Obamacare's individual mandate to stand as a tax, it struck down the law's forced Medicaid expansion as unconstitutional.
But as the CBO said, "what states will be able to do and what they will decide to do are both highly uncertain. As a result...[the] estimates reflect an assessment of the probabilities of different outcomes."
Those outcomes are up in the air, because most of the nation's governors haven't decided whether to expand their Medicaid programs yet. States that do may face "a large extra cost," the CBO said.
Heritage's Nina Owcharenko warned states not to buckle under Administration pressure to move forward with the expansion of Medicaid. And for good reason-the unintended consequences continue to mount, and the story grows worse with every day that the law stays on the books.
