Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Iran: We can destroy US bases 'minutes after an attack'

In this photo obtained from Iran's state-run ISNA news agency, a short-range Fateh missile is launched during the second day of military exercises in the Kavir Desert on Tuesday.
By msnbc.com news services
DUBAI -- Iran has threatened to destroy U.S. military bases across the Middle East and target Israel within minutes of being attacked, Iranian media reported on Wednesday, as Revolutionary Guards extended test-firing of ballistic missiles into a third day.
Israel has hinted it may attack Iran if diplomacy fails to secure a halt to its disputed nuclear energy program. The United States also has mooted military action as a last-resort option but has frequently nudged the Israelis to give time for intensified economic sanctions to work against Iran.

"These bases are all in range of our missiles, and the occupied lands (Israel) are also good targets for us," Amir Ali Haji Zadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guards aerospace division, was quoted by Fars news agency as saying.
Haji Zadeh said 35 U.S. bases were within reach of Iran's ballistic missiles, the most advanced of which commanders have said could hit targets 1,300 miles away.

Obama's "Civilian National Security Force"
05 July 2012 J. D. Longstreet
All Dictators Need Their Own Police Force
Four years ago this month -- on July 2nd, 2008 -- Obama delivered a speech in Boulder, Colorado in which he promised the creation and establishment of a "Civilian National Security Force." He further promised it would be "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded as the US Military."
It is well known amongst dictators, the world over, that a private army is necessary to control the great unwashed masses over which they force their rule.
We have seen Obama steadily assume dictatorial powers over apathetic Americans in just three and a half years. He has all but hushed the people's voice in government, the US Congress, by simply by-passing them and ruling by executive order -- just like any other two-bit dictator. Some feel even the US Supreme Court has lost the steel from its collective spine under withering pressure from our budding domestic dictator, Obama.
If one did not know better, one would think there is a move afoot to institute a complete Marxist insurgency in America with Obama at the top -- and -- at the leading edge.
"The things done in every Marxist insurgency are being done in America today." ... Retired Lt. General William G."Jerry" Boykin says in a new video he has just released . Boykin is a decorated former Delta Force Commander, US Deputy Under Secretary for Defense, and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

School Choice has become
Law in Pennsylvania
Contact: Jackie Bodnar (202) 942-7652 jbodnar@freedomworks.org
Tuesday, July 5, 2012
***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
FreedomWorks Applauds Big Step for School Choice in Pennsylvania Tax credits for scholarships are a good start, but there is still much more to be done . Harrisburg, PA - As part of a last-minute budget deal, the Pennsylvania legislature passed a tax credit that will pay for students trapped in failing schools to attend the school that best fits their educational needs. The bill, HB761, expanded the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC) to include $50 million in tax breaks to businesses that donate money for scholarships to students in the Commonwealth's schools performing in the 15th percentile or below. "Any opportunity where you can help thousands of children escape from failing or violent schools is a good day," commented David Spielman, Campaigns Coordinator for FreedomWorks. "The expansion of the EITC tax credit shows a real commitment towards education reform in the Commonwealth, which is joining a growing number of states taking bold measures to assure a better education for all students. FreedomWorks will continue to push for more educational reforms in Pennsylvania, including expanded school choice options as well as tenure reform."
FreedomWorks has been engaged in a lengthy grassroots campaign to advance school choice in Pennsylvania over the past two years. Mobilizing a network of 35,000 activists, FreedomWorks waged a grassroots campaign targeting lawmakers with over 35,000 yard signs, 180,000 door hangers, 150,000 phone calls, over 2,000 letters to lawmakers and weekly office visits.
"While we had hoped to get more money for the scholarship program, we are thrilled with the passage of HB761," commented Ana Puig, FreedomWorks Campaign Coordinator in PA. "It is definitely a step in the right direction for Pennsylvania, where change is slow in the making. This will help thousands of kids trapped in failing schools right away and we live to fight another day. We are not going away!"
FreedomWorks thanks those legislators who took leadership in advancing this key education reform, including Rep. Mike Vereb, Rep. Jim Christiana, Senator Jeff Picolla , Senator Anthony Williams, Lt. Governor Jim Cawley and Governor Tom Corbett.
Pennsylvania spends just shy of $14,000 per student per year, yet less than half of its students are proficient in reading and math. According to NAEP, (National Assessment of Educational Progress) which tests fourth and eighth grade students on reading and math, only 37 percent of 4th graders score proficient while only 40 percent of 8th graders score proficient.
For more information about the FreedomWorks school choice campaign in Pennsylvania, please visit www.FreedomWorks.org, or contact Press Secretary Jackie Bodnar at Jbodnar@freedomworks.org.
With the passage of House Bill 761 (click to view details), Pennsylvania has started the process of providing ALL of its citizens the promise of a quality education.

CCG July 10th Meeting - SAM ROHRER speaks on Conservative activism in an unprincipled political world
Dear Patriots,
Please save the date for the second Tuesday in July, July 10, when Sam Rohrer will address questions many conservatives have been asking themselves: how can a principled conservative stay actively involved in the political process when so much of politics seems to be about compromise, connections, power, money, and downright corruption? Is there any hope to effect real change in the GOP? in Harrisburg? in D.C.? Do we just need to "throw them all out" as so many frustrated Tea Party folks exclaim?
Most importantly, why should and how can principled conservatives get involved in this 2012 election when the only candidates close to our position who have a prayer of winning are a Romney, a Smith, and Congressmen like Fitzpatrick or Dent - each of whom has compromised conservative principles in some areas of practice or policy? From the perspective of a man of proven conservative principles who battled these issues for 14 years from inside the Capitol in Harrisburg, a discussion of this challenging dilemma should prove interesting and enlightening.
Please bring your thoughts and questions, invite your conservative friends who are ready to "throw in the towel" and give up the fight - and join us a week from Tuesday at the Quakertown Library. The proposed agenda is as follows:
6:30 Open discussion 6:50 "Constitutional Literacy" (Michael Farris) 20 minute video 7:15-8:20 SAM ROHRER - Q&A discussion 8:20-8:30 Wrap-up: Action Points
PLEASE PASS ON THIS INVITATION. For liberty, Jaime

Hey, everyone,
We went to this new tea party group for YOUNG people in Conshohocken the other night and it was filled with energy! Lots of young people were there and they are psyched to stop the train wreck of socialism. If YOU are angry and feel helpless and want to do something about it in addition to praying, please get connected with this group (below) on Facebook! They are networked across the entire country with all the other tea party groups, "912 groups," and other freedom-loving people--many who have grandparents who fought and died in World War II and other battles. There are many more younger tea party groups springing up as it dawns on teens and 20-somethings that THEY will be the ones living under mandates . . . endless new mandates. We haven't even discussed the fact that we do NOT have the money to pay for ObamaCare!!!
These young people GET IT--it is them that will suffer under socialism, under the crushing debt, under devastating unemployment, and under a horrible NO-WORK ethic creeping across our country. Socialism will kill the spirit of our citizens. This group is committed to making a huge difference, right here in Montgomery County.
Also, we met Perry Bentley, the 22-year old Field Director for the MontCo Victory Center to UNELECT OBAMA. Perry said that on July 7 there is a kickoff for anyone who is interested to help in lots of ways to get rid of Obama: phone calls, door knocking, and much more. Call 717 686-2219 to sign up and help get rid of Obama. To do nothing at this point is to allow tyranny, plain and simple. The time for watching t.v. is OVER. Your future children and grandchildren will ask you: what did you do to stop tyranny?
Michele
P.S. On the Communist Party USA website today, there was an article that said: "America will accept socialism peacefully without violence." Will that be you or will you FIGHT it???

The Next KTP Tea Social
Monday, July 9th at 7pm
Doylestown Moose Club
Let's get together and talk about our next steps as we get ready to take out Barack Obama and Bob Casey this Fall! After a very well attended Get Out The Vote training day in Bucks County in early June, we are now ready to put into practice all the tools we learned from FreedomWorks.
We all came together back in 2009 because we were outraged by the election of Barack Obama, the passage of Obamacare and the direction of our country financially and ideologically. The time has come, perhaps our last chance to truly make a stance, for us to unite and work to defeat the progressive agenda which has already infiltrated us so deeply. The first step towards a big win in November starts now! So, we, at The Kitchen Table Patriots, urge you to come out to make a difference, we can plug you in where you are needed.
This is where you can make a difference that really matters!

Government in the booze business has always been a lose business. Let's give our legislators a final push to let them know the time is now to get government out of the booze business! Currently, this issue is stalled in the House of Representatives so your phone calls, emails and faxes can have a positive effect in getting this to a vote before the Legislators leave Harrisburg for the Summer. |

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

Tonight, Sunday June 3rd, CUFI Founder and Chairman, Pastor John Hagee, will be announcing an exciting new CUFI initiative. You can click here to watch it live at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific). This link will not be live until 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific) tonight.
Tonight, Pastor Hagee will be announcing the creation of the Israel Defense Fund. This emergency fund will enable CUFI to meet the major challenges we anticipate in the coming months.
CUFI has accomplished great things for Israel. But the times in which we live demand that we do even more -- and do so now!
We need to do more to defend Israel in the public square and in the media. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to purchase more pro-Israel billboards across America as well as full-page newspaper ads as circumstances demand.
We need to do more to defend Israel on our college campuses. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to train even more students and hold even more pro-Israel events on campuses across the country.
We need to do more to defend Israel before our leaders. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to be more active than ever in educating our nation's leaders about the justice of Israel's cause.
Even if you can't watch the broadcast, don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of the Israel Defense Fund! Click here now to contribute.
We will not be silent. Together, we will do more than ever to stand up and speak up for Israel.
May God Bless You and Those that You Love, David Brog Executive Director CUFI

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

NORQUIST: With a gavel bang, Obamacare is Obamatax
Re-electing Obama means higher taxes - permanently
The Washington Times | By Grover Norquist | July 4, 2012
It's official: Obamacare is Obamatax. The Supreme Court saved Obamacare but at the expense of exposing it as simply a massive collection of taxes - 20 taxes at least. Obamacare was supposed to reduce the cost of health insurance but it has six taxes on Americans who already have health insurance. Your insurance will cost more to pay Mr. Obama's tax hikes.
Obamacare was supposed to "bend the cost curve down" but it has a tax on medical devices. What medical devices? Braces for your kids. A stent for your heart. A wheelchair. All the cool stuff you see in hospitals will now cost more in order to pay Mr. Obama's tax on medical devices.
Obamacare has a tax on lifesaving drugs. Great - now our drugs will cost more. Obamacare raises taxes on making new drugs by $2.3 billion a year. And you will pay it.
Obamacare promised that you would be able to keep your insurance. Not if you have a Health Savings Account - that is hit with new tax penalties. Just try and buy over-the-counter nonprescription drugs pre-tax with your HSA - not anymore. Your Flexible Spending Account is now going to be taxed so that parents who use these insurance accounts to take care of special-needs children will find part of their own life savings taxed away to Washington. And if you have insurance that Washington bureaucrats have decided on your behalf is too good, then you pay part of the $32 billion Mr. Obama is adding in new taxes on those with "too much, too good" health insurance.
Obamacare even has a tax on charitable hospitals.
Seven of the Obamacare taxes directly hit middle-income Americans. So much for Mr. Obama's promise to never raise "any form" of tax on anyone earning less than $250,000.
There is a tax on tanning services. New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg won't let you have soft drinks he doesn't approve of. Obamacare taxes you 10 percent if you want a tan and cannot get a free ride to the sun on Air Force One.
Twenty taxes comprise the total that raise the cost of health care, trash your present insurance and ability to save for future health needs.
What if you get really sick and have very high medical bills? In the past, you could deduct high medical bills from your taxable income when they were above 7.5 percent of your total income. Mr. Obama thinks that is being too nice to sick people and raises the limit to 10 percent. Perhaps the theory is that taxing sick people will lead to fewer sick people.
Much focus has been placed on one of the 20 tax hikes. That is the tax hike on Americans who fail to submit to the "mandate" that you buy health insurance chosen for you by the government. You may buy any color Model T you wish as long as it is black. You may have any health insurance package the government picks out for you.
. . .
A vote for Mr. Obama is a vote for more than $5.5 trillion in higher taxes over the next 10 years. A vote for Mitt Romney and a Republican Congress will repeal all 20 of Obamacare's taxes and extend all the lapsing tax hikes so Congress can reform the tax code without a tax increase.
There is, too, a dime's worth of difference between the parties - 55 trillion dimes.
Read the entire article Here . . . 20 Hidden Tax Hikes in Obama(doesn't)care NewsMax.com | By Grover Norquist | June 29, 2012 The Obamacare law contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses
Taxpayers are reminded that the president's healthcare law is one of the largest tax increases in American history.
Obamacare contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses.
Arranged by their respective effective dates, below is the total list of all $500 billion-plus in tax hikes (over the next ten years) in Obamacare, where to find them in the bill, and how much your taxes are scheduled to go up as of today:
Taxes that took effect in 2010:
1. Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals (Min$/immediate): $50,000 per hospital if they fail to meet new "community health assessment needs," "financial assistance," and "billing and collection" rules set by HHS. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,961-1,971.
2. Codification of the "economic substance doctrine" (Tax hike of $4.5 billion). This provision allows the IRS to disallow completely-legal tax deductions and other legal tax-minimizing plans just because the IRS deems that the action lacks "substance" and is merely intended to reduce taxes owed. Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 108-113.
3. "Black liquor" tax hike (Tax hike of $23.6 billion). This is a tax increase on a type of bio-fuel. Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 105.
4. Tax on Innovator Drug Companies ($22.2 bil/Jan 2010): $2.3 billion annual tax on the industry imposed relative to share of sales made that year. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,971-1,980.
5. Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tax Hike ($0.4 bil/Jan 2010): The special tax deduction in current law for Blue Cross/Blue Shield companies would only be allowed if 85 percent or more of premium revenues are spent on clinical services. Bill: PPACA; Page: 2,004.
6. Tax on Indoor Tanning Services ($2.7 billion/July 1, 2010): New 10 percent excise tax on Americans using indoor tanning salons. Bill: PPACA; Page: 2,397-2,399.
Taxes that took effect in 2011:
7. Medicine Cabinet Tax ($5 bil/Jan 2011): Americans no longer able to use health savings account (HSA), flexible spending account (FSA), or health reimbursement (HRA) pre-tax dollars to purchase non-prescription, over-the-counter medicines (except insulin). Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,957-1,959.
8. HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike ($1.4 bil/Jan 2011): Increases additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10 to 20 percent, disadvantaging them relative to IRAs and other tax-advantaged accounts, which remain at 10 percent. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,959.
Taxes that took effect in 2012:
9. Employer Reporting of Insurance on W-2 (Min$/Jan 2012): Preamble to taxing health benefits on individual tax returns. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,957.
Taxes that take effect in 2013:
10. Surtax on Investment Income ($123 billion/Jan. 2013): Creation of a new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This would result in the following top tax rates on investment income: Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 87-93. | Capital Gains | Dividends | Other* | 2012 | 15% | 15% | 35% | 2013+ | 23.8% | 43.4% | 43.4% |
*Other unearned income includes (for surtax purposes) gross income from interest, annuities, royalties, net rents, and passive income in partnerships and Subchapter-S corporations. It does not include municipal bond interest or life insurance proceeds, since those do not add to gross income. It does not include active trade or business income, fair market value sales of ownership in pass-through entities, or distributions from retirement plans. The 3.8% surtax does not apply to non-resident aliens.
11. Hike in Medicare Payroll Tax ($86.8 bil/Jan 2013): Current law and changes:
| First $200,000 ($250,000 Married) Employer/Employee | All Remaining Wages Employer/Employee | Current Law | 1.45%/1.45% 2.9% self-employed | 1.45%/1.45% 2.9% self-employed | Obamacare Tax Hike | 1.45%/1.45% 2.9% self-employed | 1.45%/2.35% 3.8% self-employed |
Bill: PPACA, Reconciliation Act; Page: 2000-2003; 87-93
12. Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers ($20 bil/Jan 2013): Medical device manufacturers employ 360,000 people in 6000 plants across the country. This law imposes a new 2.3% excise tax. Exempts items retailing for <$100. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,980-1,986
13. Raise "Haircut" for Medical Itemized Deduction from 7.5% to 10% of AGI ($15.2 bil/Jan 2013): Currently, those facing high medical expenses are allowed a deduction for medical expenses to the extent that those expenses exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). The new provision imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. Waived for 65+ taxpayers in 2013-2016 only. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,994-1,995
14. Flexible Spending Account Cap - aka "Special Needs Kids Tax" ($13 bil/Jan 2013): Imposes cap on FSAs of $2500 (now unlimited). Indexed to inflation after 2013. There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. Bill: PPACA; Page: 2,388-2,389
15. Elimination of tax deduction for employer-provided retirement Rx drug coverage in coordination with Medicare Part D ($4.5 bil/Jan 2013) Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,994
16. $500,000 Annual Executive Compensation Limit for Health Insurance Executives ($0.6 bil/Jan 2013). Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,995-2,000
Taxes that take effect in 2014:
17. Individual Mandate Excise Tax (Jan 2014): Starting in 2014, anyone not buying "qualifying" health insurance must pay an income surtax according to the higher of the following
| 1 Adult | 2 Adults | 3+ Adults | 2014 | 1% AGI/$95 | 1% AGI/$190 | 1% AGI/$285 | 2015 | 2% AGI/$325 | 2% AGI/$650 | 2% AGI/$975 | 2016 + | 2.5% AGI/$695 | 2.5% AGI/$1390 | 2.5% AGI/$2085 |
Exemptions for religious objectors, undocumented immigrants, prisoners, those earning less than the poverty line, members of Indian tribes, and hardship cases (determined by HHS).Bill: PPACA; Page: 317-337
18. Employer Mandate Tax (Jan 2014): If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $2000 for all full-time employees. Applies to all employers with 50 or more employees. If any employee actually receives coverage through the exchange, the penalty on the employer for that employee rises to $3000. If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).Bill: PPACA; Page: 345-346
Combined score of individual and employer mandate tax penalty: $65 billion/10 years
19. Tax on Health Insurers ($60.1 bil/Jan 2014): Annual tax on the industry imposed relative to health insurance premiums collected that year. Phases in gradually until 2018. Fully-imposed on firms with $50 million in profits. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,986-1,993
Taxes that take effect in 2018:
20. Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans ($32 bil/Jan 2018): Starting in 2018, new 40 percent excise tax on "Cadillac" health insurance plans ($10,200 single/$27,500 family). Higher threshold ($11,500 single/$29,450 family) for early retirees and high-risk professions. CPI +1 percentage point indexed. Bill: PPACA; Page: 1,941-1,956

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. RedState Morning Briefing
For July 6, 2012
1. Transportation Secretary Praises Murderous Communists as "More Successful"
Obama Administration Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood has come out in favor of the Chicoms over Americans claiming that in China "only three people make the decision. In our country, 3,000 people do."
Hannah Sternberg of Regnery gives a great example of that Chinese 3 man success. Likewise, the famed high spec rail system in China has come under investigation for corruption, is not making money, and has repeated broken down. The same three people who make decisions decided to make the man in charge of the rail system disappear.
2. I Support Joe Walsh. You Should Too.
I support Congressman Joe Walsh a thousand percent and you should too. Pony up your checkbooks while you are at it. He's in the midst of a manufactured scandal because he dared utter an inconvenient truth.
His opponent is the leftwing darling Tammy Duckworth. As CNN notes, "A Black Hawk helicopter pilot in Iraq, Duckworth lost both legs and the use of one arm when her crew was shot down in 2004. She was later awarded the Purple Heart and continues to serve as a lieutenant colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard."
But, and here is where the outrage pimps have rushed to attack Joe Walsh, the Congressman pointed out that "she is a hero, and that demands our respect, but it doesn't demand our vote. All she does, guys, is talk about her service."
3. My Concerns With Eric Hovde
Yesterday I noted that in Wisconsin there is a fight for the heart and soul of the right between Mark Neumann and Eric Hovde. Either would be preferable to Tommy Thompson. My preference is Mark Neumann who is the embodiment of the conservative warrior.
Many conservatives in Wisconsin, however, are gravitating to Eric Hovde. He is rich and willing to spend what it takes to win. He has a very conservative message. But time and time again we see people with the conservative message go to Congress and be anything but conservative. Before conservatives in Wisconsin embrace Eric Hovde, I hope they fully vet him.
Remember, 70% of congressmen who ran as tea party candidates went to Washington and promptly started voting like the Republican who helped get us to $16 trillion in national debt.
Here are a few concerns about Eric Hovde that need vetting.

Conservative history:
Torment a liberal with the horrible tale of affirmative action gone oh-so poetically wrong: Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978). Allan Bakke was a white med school applicant, initially denied a place despite his superior grades because of the University's PC affirmative action program that gave preference to ethnic minorities with much lower grades. One of the five black students admitted to themed school instead of Bakke was Patrick Chavis, whose subsequent "successful" career was compared favorably by affirmative action champions with Bakke's relatively undistinguished one as proof that social justice had been secured. What they neglected to report was Chavis's subsequent suspension by California's medical board for his "inability to perform some of the most basic duties required of a physician." He botched one patient's liposuction, hiding her in his home for forty hours, while she lost 70 percent of her blood; caused another patient severe bleeding, again stashing her in his home; and caused another to suffer a heart attack before bleeding to death.

THIS WEEKLY MIDDLE EAST REPORT titled Hypocrisy and Malice Win the Day at the PCUSA GA
The 220 General Assembly of Presbyterian Church USA has once again displayed its hypocrisy and malice towards the Jewish State...
HYPOCRISY AND MALICE WIN THE DAY AT THE PCUSA GA
By: Joseph Puder
The 220th General Assembly (GA) of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) opened Saturday June 30, 2012, and will conclude on Saturday July 7, 2012. Held every two years, this GA is being held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A recurring feature of the PCUSA GA is the obsession the leadership has with condemning and undermining the Jewish State under the guise of responsible investing and social justice. The hypocrisy on display is evidenced by their agenda.
Sunday morning featured a session with Amgad Beblawi, an Egyptian native, demonstrates his concern for human rights by posting a story titled "International Laws and UN Resolutions Broken by Israel" on his Facebook page but somehow neglects to mention the suffering of the Coptic Christians in his own country. Badlawi asserts on his Facebook page that "Human rights have been and are being violated daily by Israel. We will keep posting articles and laws that have been violated. Take action and do your part by spreading awareness." No doubt, during his session at the GA, Beblawi did not note for the edification of the attendees that the Organization of Islamic Conference with its 57 member states represents nearly 1/3 of the UN General Assembly membership and that they devote 2/3 of their time to condemning Israel - the only democracy in the Middle East - rather than condemn the abusive Arab and Muslim dictatorships. Beblawi, the PCUSA Area Coordinator for the Middle East, Central Asia, and Europe, was charged with detailing the History of the PCUSA in the Middle East. One can only imagine what a "dhimmified" Egyptian Arab had to say about Israel and the Middle East. There were no counter reports scheduled that might have provided the attendees with another perspective.
While the PCUSA overtures ignore the butchery in Syria, as well as human right abuses throughout the Arab and Muslim world against women and minority groups (non-Muslims, Kurds, Africans, etc.), there will nevertheless be a slew of overtures singularly focused on targeting Israel. The Presbytery of Muskingum Valley was scheduled to rise on Tuesday in "recognizing that Israel's Law and Practices constitute Apartheid against Palestinian People." Not only is this charge libelous, false and inflammatory, considering that 99% of Palestinians live under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority, the fact Arab Muslims and Arab-Christians can serve as a judges in Israel's Supreme Court, as well as members of the Knesset belie the charge. Absent in this discussion on apartheid is, for example, the fact that no Jew is allowed a government position in the Arab world or in the Palestinian Authority. The fact that Jordan, Gaza, the Palestinian Authority, as well as most of the Arab world, is Nazi-like Judenrein obviously did not bother the drafters of the Muskingum Valley nor the PCUSA leadership.
Also scheduled during the Tuesday morning session was the presentation of an overture by the Presbytery of San Francisco on "Boycotting Ahava Dead Sea Laboratories and Hadiklaim (Israeli cooperative for date growers) and a call for "Divestment from Caterpillar." The Presbytery of the Palisades was scheduled to call for "Approving the General Assembly Mission Council's recommendation on Selective Divestment made by MRTI (Mission Responsibility Through Investment) to add Motorola Solutions and Hewlett-Packard to the list of divestments.
The Israel Palestine Mission Network (IPMN) hosted Arab-Palestinian artists and exhibited Palestinian art on Sunday from 2-10PM. This exposure essentially amounts to quiet pro-Arab-Palestinian propaganda, particularly when the statement posted on its webpage refers to occupation and abuse suffered by Palestinians: "As Presbyterians from around the United States gather in Pittsburgh this week for the 220th General Assembly (June 30-July 7) of the Presbyterian Church (USA), they will consider a motion to divest church holdings from three companies (Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola Solutions) that profit from Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands and abuses of Palestinian human rights. The vote will be the culmination of a long process within the church and years of outreach to the companies involved, with divestment a last resort." The question that begs to be asked if why the PCUSA does not divest from China, Burma, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and a long list of other non-democratic oppressive regimes.
IPMN hosted a luncheon on Tuesday entitled "The Effect of BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) on Muslim, Jewish, and Christian Relations. The speakers, Anna Baltzer (presented as "Jewish," and "a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors)," and Fr. Fadi Diab, an Arab-Palestinian Anglican pastor who is one of the authors of the Kairos Document - a viciously anti-Israel document, are exclusively and rabidly anti-Israel. According to the agenda, they presented "the rationale for the BDS campaign launched by Palestinian Civil Society..."
On Wednesday, July 4th, the IPMN hosted another luncheon, "Israel and Palestine's Place in the Arab Spring and U.S. Foreign Policy, with Rami Khouri, Editor-at-Large of the Beirut Star and a pro-Palestinian Lebanese Christian, as the keynote speaker.
In an attempt to ward off criticism of its shameful anti-Israel obsession, the PCUSA MRTI (Mission Responsibility Through Investment) issued a FAQ regarding divestment recommendations. Hypocrisy is rampant. Of particular note is #9, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) divests from companies profiting from involvement in human rights violations in Israel and Palestine, so why isn't the church divesting from American companies that do business in Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, China, Burma and many other countries where massive human rights violations are documented? Part of their response, "Not all of the human rights violations involve corporate complicity" is telling.
MRTI along with its ecumenical partners engages many other companies doing business in countries with serious human rights challenges. Not all of the human rights violations involve corporate complicity. In addition, corporate engagement has resulted in changes in corporate policies and practices. However, in other cases where companies have refused to change, the General Assembly has placed them on the divestment list until the practices were changed. Examples are Talisman Energy in Sudan or sixteen key companies involved in South African apartheid in the 1980's.
MRTI puts Israel in the same category as South Africa (where Apartheid was the law of the land) and Sudan (guilty of genocide in Darfur). Such out of touch associations are on the scale of comparing Netanyahu to Hitler and Stalin. FAQ #11 attempts to assure that the PCUSA is not anti-Semitic. While probably true when dealing with individual Jews, their hostility towards the Jewish collective - the Jewish State of Israel is more than obvious. The PCUSA has a longstanding history of anti-Israel bias, and an extraordinary toleration for and indulgence in anti-Semitic themes.
Presbyterians For Middle East Peace (PFMEP), a voice of reason that was established to create balance on Middle Eastern issues, had this to say, "In spite of facts, the next GA will again be asked to put pressure on Israel to remove the Israeli security presence in the West Bank through calls to 'end the occupation.' Such an approach flies in the face of the approaches recommended by the Middle East Quartet (US, UN, EU, and Russia). It also challenges the approach taken by objective individuals such as Judge Goldstone who wrote in the NY Times 10/31/11), "It is important to separate legitimate criticism of Israel from assaults that aim to isolate, demonize, and delegitimize it..."
The PFMEP, unfortunately, failed to stop the torrent of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish statements. The Pittsburg Post-Gazette reported (7/3/12) that, "The Committee on Middle East and Peacemaking Issues of the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly approved a resolution in Pittsburgh this morning by a vote of 36-11 with one abstention to divest from companies whose products are used by Israel to enforce occupation of the West Bank. The resolution recommends that the church divest from Caterpillar, Motorola and Hewlett-Packard after an eight-year corporate engagement process yielded no reforms. The general church body will vote on the resolution later this week."
Hypocrisy and malice won the day at the PCUSA GA.

Governor Walker Breaks New Ground in Higher Ed
Governor Scott Walker (R-WI), already well known for his efforts to curb union power, has now set out to tackle an equally big task: busting the higher education bubble.
The problem of college affordability is recognized on both sides of the aisle, but sadly, most efforts to abate the problem - such as increasing federal subsidies - have only exacerbated it. Walker wants to try a different approach for taxpayers and students in his state.
Last Tuesday, Walker released his proposal to create the University of Wisconsin Flexible Degree Program, a competency-based approach using both online learning and traditional college courses. He explained: Read More . . .

As I write this, the barges are being towed along the Hudson. Streets have been blocked off, police officers collecting overtime have assembled, and the crowds are trickling in hours early to grab prime viewing positions for the fireworks display. While Independence Day is the official name of the celebration, the media is still celebrating a Supreme Court decision which granted the government the power to outsource taxation to corporations by compelling everyone to purchase a product from a private company by virtue of having been born. Nancy Pelosi explained that the mandate was more of a penalty on "Free Riders" than a tax. Down by the Hudson River, British warships once plied the waterway in a bid to prevent the colonists from acting as "Free Riders" on their investment. The debate over whether people could be disenfranchised and compelled to pay for the grandiose plans of an out of touch government was eventually thought to have been settled further north at Saratoga. But the debate is back. Co-Dependence Day is the new Independence Day. "I love you, you tolerate me and we all live together in a happy planned economy." Free riders are people who, like the Colonists, are perceived to have benefited from the gargantuan investment of government without paying their proper share. All that the Crown really wanted was for the colonists to pay their "fair share", a share that was determined thousands of miles away. All that the colonists wanted was the rights of Englishmen that they believed they were entitled to. After a great deal of bloodshed, the colonists won the right to be Americans instead-an odd series of consonants and vowels having to do with an Italian explorer but meaning free and limited government. The "Free Riders" who didn't want to pay into the empire won the day, but hardly anyone in the crowds heading toward the Hudson remembers what the day is about. The denizens of public housing, who are the true "Free Riders", certainly don't. They are getting a free ride on everything from food to housing, but the free ride comes from the taxpayers that Pelosi and Obama damn as "Free Riders". And the only way to keep their free ride going is by ending everyone else's freedom. The fireworks are just one more free thing in the sea of free things that they swim in. The Fourth to them is Fireworks Day. Every country has its fireworks days and this is the day that this one chooses to light up the night sky. The day means nothing to them because though they are surrounded by free things, they aren't free. The difference between freedom and free things has been progressively erased so that many think that the American Revolution was fought because the British weren't providing affordable health coverage to the colonies. If only they knew about the NHS, they would vote to go back.

On Obamacare's 'silver lining' - there is none

Some conservatives believe there's a silver lining in Chief Justice Roberts' opinion upholding Obamacare because he pays lip service to limited government. Folks, the constitutional rule of law lost. Obama Must Fight on Home Turf as Romney Hits Blue States
by Joel B. Pollak
As Mitt Romney kicks off a campaign bus tour into what ABC News calls "hostile territory," Barack Obama is waging a defensive campaign, visiting states he won in 2008. It is clear, from campaign schedules alone, that Obama does not believe he can add states to his column in the 2012 election--and that he is worried about holding the line against an increasingly aggressive, and effective, Romney ground operation.
Romney's tour is reveals a "mostly offense" strategy:
In mid-June, Romney's five-day bus tour swung through New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan, all Obama states in 2008. In the 15 counties Romney visited, including major Obama strongholds in Madison, Wis., and Davenport, Iowa, Obama carried the total vote by 5 percentage points. Counting all votes cast, Obama defeated McCain 50 percent to 45 percent in Romney's bus-tour counties.
"We're certainly campaigning on their turf," Romney strategist Russ Schriefer told reporters the day the tour began.

Judge decides law doesn't apply to Obama
Jul 05, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
A Circuit Court has decided that Florida election law applies to everyone but Barack Hussein Obama. In response to a suit brought by Florida resident and Democrat Party member Michael Voeltz challenging Obama's eligibility to the Florida ballot, Circuit Court Judge Terry Lewis ruled that Florida election law "...is not applicable to the nomination of a candidate for Office of President of the United States." This means that the Florida Statute which says, "the... nomination of any person to office...may be contested in the circuit court...by any elector or any taxpayer..." is null and void when it comes to Mr. Obama's nomination to the presidency. (1)
"If the plaintiff was challenging the candidate's eligibility for any other office, his analysis would be correct and [the law] would apply," said Lewis of Voeltz's suit. However, according to the Judge, "...Political parties determine their [presidential] nominee at a national convention pursuant to rules ... Continue Reading:Judge decides law doesn't apply to Obama

The Declaration of Independence was approved JULY 4, 1776. John Hancock signed first, saying "the price on my head has just doubled." Benjamin Franklin said: "We must hang together or most assuredly we shall hang separately." Of the 56 signers: 17 served in the military; 11 had their homes destroyed; 5 were hunted and captured; Abraham Clark had two sons imprisoned on the British starving ship Jersey; John Witherspoon's son was killed in battle; Francis Lewis' wife was imprisoned and died from the harsh treatment; many, such as Thomas Nelson and Carter Braxton, lost their fortunes; and 9 died during the War. When Samuel Adams signed the Declaration, he said: "We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let ... Continue Reading:American Minute July 4

WASHINGTON -- I have a headache. I imagine you do too, if you have been trying to interpret the legalese employed by those legal sages who have pronounced on Thursday's Supreme Court decision on Obamacare. I would rather read the lyrics of a thousand rap composers than the anfractuous language of one legal sage.
Thanks, however, to Professor E. Donald Elliott of the Yale Law School I had a translator at my side, and I shall now hand down my judgment of the Court's decision on Obamacare, which all sensible Americans have abstained from reading in its entirety including B. H. Obama and the vast majority of denizens of Capitol Hill, including N. Pelosi. Some of these worthies even admitted as much.

Thursday, July 5, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 124 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Click here to listen now. Advice To A Friend There wasn't much for conservatives to celebrate in last week's ObamaCare ruling. But the Supreme Court did one thing that helped to define this election: It labeled ObamaCare's individual mandate a tax. In a 2009 interview with ABC News, Barack Obama said he "absolutely" rejected the notion that the mandate was a tax. The Supreme Court said otherwise. Conservatives pounced, accusing Obama of deceit and forcing on the American people the biggest tax increase in history. Well, you can imagine the confusion in Washington when Governor Mitt Romney's chief spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, said Monday morning that the mandate wasn't a tax, but a penalty. That statement was a huge gift to Obama as it undermined the main line of attack against ObamaCare. Thankfully, Governor Romney corrected his spokesman yesterday, telling CBS News, "The majority of the court said it's a tax, therefore it's a tax. They have spoken. There's no way around that. ... The American people (now) know that President Obama has broken the pledge he made. He said he wouldn't raise taxes on middle-income Americans." Today's Wall Street Journal has a blistering editorial taking the Romney campaign to task for "unforced errors" and failing to offer a compelling vision for the future. Consider this excerpt:
"This latest mistake is of a piece with the campaign's insular staff and strategy that are slowly squandering an historic opportunity. ...The Romney campaign thinks it can play it safe and coast to the White House by saying the economy stinks and it's Mr. Obama's fault. ...What [voters] want to hear from the challenger is some understanding of why the President's policies aren't working and how Mr. Romney's policies will do better. "Meanwhile, the Obama campaign is assailing Mr. Romney as an out-of-touch rich man... Team Obama is pounding him for Bain Capital, and until a recent ad in Ohio the Romney campaign has been slow to respond. Team Obama is now opening up a new assault on Mr. Romney as a job outsourcer with foreign bank accounts, and if the Boston boys let that one go unanswered, they ought to be fired for malpractice. ... "But candidates who live by biography typically lose by it. See President John Kerry. The biography that voters care about is their own, and they want to know how a candidate is going to improve their future. That means offering a larger economic narrative and vision than Mr. Romney has so far provided."
Don't get me wrong -- America desperately needs Mitt Romney to win this election. The Wall Street Journal's editorial page is on Mitt Romney's side, and I hope the Romney campaign will carefully consider the friendly, if unsolicited, advice its editors are offering. "Let's Kill This Guy" In the same CBS interview, Ann Romney lamented the negativity of the campaign. She said, "I feel like all [Obama] is doing is saying, 'Let's kill this guy.' And I feel like that's not really a very good campaign policy. ...And it's like, 'not when I'm next to him you better not.'" I completely understand how Ann feels. I know how my wife Carol reacts when unfair and false attacks are made against me. But in all due respect to Mrs. Romney, the Obama campaign is doing this for one reason: It works! This is how the left wins. For all the talk about hope and change, Barack Obama spent more money in 2008 on negative ads than any candidate in the history of the country! And he can't run on hope and change anymore. In fact, the Obama campaign is already running ads that the Washington Post has labeled "misleading, unfair and untrue." The left has turned the "politics of personal destruction" into an art form. Remember the "high-tech lynching" of Clarence Thomas? It spent eight years demonizing George W. Bush. Look at what it did to Sarah Palin. The left never misses an opportunity to smear Rush Limbaugh, and it is trying to smear Ann Romney too! The Romneys' sons are next. Of course, the Obama campaign will smear Mitt Romney. And it would be a terrible mistake to go into this campaign assuming the Democrats will play nice. This Chicago gang is playing to win, and they play hardball. After all, it was Barack Obama who once told a cheering crowd, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we'll bring a gun." Vets Combatting Unemployment One of the truly heartbreaking aspects of the Obama economy is the difficulty so many returning veterans have in finding employment. While the national unemployment rate is 8.2%, it is nearly 13% for returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. The Veterans of Foreign Wars has made reducing this startling statistic a top priority by sponsoring a company called VetJobs. VetJobs just announced that it is working to help our veterans fill thousands of jobs building the Keystone XL pipeline. But there's a catch. These jobs are on the Canadian side of the border. Thanks to Obama, there are no Keystone pipeline jobs in this country. In fact, VetJobs had corporate commitments to hire 8,000 veterans for the Keystone pipeline project in America until the Obama Administration rejected it. A recent Rasmussen poll found that 60% of likely voters support the Keystone pipeline, but Barack Obama is siding with the 22% who oppose it. Thankfully for our vets, the VWF and VetJobs have been able to salvage something of their efforts. But this is just one more example of how Barack Obama's left-wing ideology is hurting America and costing jobs. Wasting Your Tax Dollars Obama's blind commitment to the radical environmental movement is also wasting your tax dollars. In recent days, another stimulus-funded solar company announced it was going bankrupt, and company auditors are raising red flags about a Nevada-based geothermal company with a $98 million federal loan guarantee. Here's another example. Reuters recently reported that Obama's "Great Green Fleet" recently set sail on a six-week tour of the Pacific. The carrier strike group is being powered by alternative fuels that cost -- are you sitting down? -- $26-a-gallon. That's more than seven times the cost of conventional fuels! America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama!

It's Independence Day, Not Dependence Day
This column by ACRU Chairman and CEO Susan A. Carleson was published July 4, 2012 on Townhall.com. Many Americans refer to July 4th as the Fourth of July, but earlier in our history, it was widely known as Independence Day. As we celebrate the 236th anniversary of the day that the Founders signed the Declaration of Independence, we might consider going back to the original term. In 1776, Americans were bucking the authority of a faraway tyrannical power -- King George III of England -- who treated the colonists like second-class subjects. Today, powerful elites in Washington, D.C. are bent on recasting America in a way that would make July 4th more accurately called Dependence Day. Many Americans are being tempted by the siren song of reliance upon government -- but thankfully, we are seeing many more bent on resisting this dangerous idea and reversing it. The shocking decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 28 to uphold the patently unconstitutional ObamaCare is re-lighting the torch of liberty against unjust taxation and dangerous concentrations of power.

How to Defeat and Replace Obamacare Now
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published July 5, 2012 on The American Spectator website. Whether Left, Right, Independent, or Confused, no one who is not bought and paid for as part of the Obama political machine is going to like the Obama Double Cross of the American people on Obamacare. Before Obamacare was passed, Obama told the American people over and over, even on national TV, that the individual mandate was not a tax. After Obamacare was passed, Obama sent his lawyers into courts all over the country to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional precisely because it is a tax. This is the top argument to feature now in discrediting Obama and Obamacare. No one likes a dishonest liar. Even worse when that dishonest liar is supposed to be our nation's leader. When he sent his own lawyers into courts all over America to argue that the individual mandate is constitutional because it is a tax, he demonstrated that when he told the nation it was not a tax, he knew all along that was not true, and that he was planning all along to double cross the people he was supposed to be leading. That alone disqualifies him from serving as President. The majority of Americans who are still capable of thinking will recognize that we can't have as our nation's leader a dishonest double crosser. Romney and his Republicans must now play in ads all over America the clips of Obama and his Democrats denying in dismissive terms that the individual mandate could in any way be considered a tax. Then they need to dramatize that after the Obamacrats had tricked the American people, they sent their lawyers into court to argue just the opposite, thinking that the American people are too stupid to realize they had been tricked.

The Underclass
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published July 4, 2012 on Townhall.com. Anthony Daniels, who writes under the pen name Theodore Dalrymple, is a retired prison doctor and psychiatrist who tells of his experiences with his patients in Life at the Bottom. It's an insightful book of essays about the self-destructive behavior and attitudes of the underclass. In one essay, "We Don't Want No Education," reprinted by City Journal, Dalrymple says that he cannot recall meeting a 16-year-old from the public housing project near his hospital who could perform simple multiplication operations, such as nine times seven. One 17-year-old told him, "We didn't get that far." This was after 12 years of attending school. One of Dalrymple's patients took a drug overdose because of constant bullying from classmates. "She was stupid because she was clever." What her peers meant by that was anyone who worked hard and performed well at school was wasting his time when truancy and wandering downtown were deemed preferable. The underlying threat was: If you don't mend your ways and join us, we'll beat you up. These weren't simply idle threats. Dalrymple says he's often met people in their 20s or 30s in his practice who gave up at school under such duress. Those who attend a school that has very high academic standards risk a beating if they venture into neighborhoods where the underclass live. He recalls treating two boys in the emergency room after they'd been beaten and two others who had taken overdoses for fear of being beaten at the hands of their neighbors.

Court's Awful Ruling Taxes Our Patients
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published June 29, 2012 on The Washington Times website. When is a tax not a tax? Answer: When you're busy pushing a major expansion of government like Obamacare. The tax that is not a tax becomes a "penalty" or a "shared responsibility payment" in the text of the bill. In campaign lingo, it becomes an "investment." That's what the Democrats told us when they rammed Obamacare down America's throat. In a famous clip you can find on YouTube, President Obama adamantly denies to ABC's George Stephanopoulos that the individual mandate is, in fact, a "tax." As soon as it hit the courts, however, the tax that is not a tax morphed back into a tax as Mr. Obama's attorneys justified it through Congress' Article I power to tax and spend. The White House, which lambasted opponents for calling the mandate a tax, argued in court that the mandate's enforcement under "Assessment" and "Collection" are right out of the code for the Internal Revenue Service, which will collect the tax, er, penalty, er, uh, tax. Yeah, that's it. Keep in mind that the individual mandate is only one of 20 new or higher taxes Obamacare imposes on American families. Without the mandate, all parties agreed, Obamacare and those tax increases would go down. People would avoid buying insurance until they get sick, and the system would collapse.

The Rallying Cry to Repeal Obamacare
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) was determined to repeal Obamacare before the Supreme Court handed down its ruling last week. Now he's confident he will have a motivated army working alongside him. "All of us had hoped and maybe been teased into the thought that maybe the Supreme Court would come in and make this work a little bit easier," DeMint told a standing-room only crowd at Heritage last Thursday. "They haven't done that, but they have reminded us that this job is in our hands and the hands of the people." DeMint's speech, which Heritage excerpted for this short video, came just two hours after the ruling shocked and disappointed many conservatives. After all, tea-party activists swept a group of freshmen lawmakers into the halls of Congress last year and their vote to repeal Obamacare was a major triumph. Equally disappointing for many was the court's decision. "We all knew when Obamacare passed that the urgent priority had to be the repeal of that bill and the replacing of the people who imposed it on the American people. That is still the priority today," DeMint said at Heritage. He continued: "I come today disappointed that the court didn't make it easier, but not at all discouraged. Because it's our job to fix this thing and it gives America, I think, a much more compelling reason to get engaged." There are already indications that the American people are responding to that call for action. Fundraising appeals filled the coffers of conservative organizations, including Heritage, and political campaigns. "The Supreme Court may have said we can keep it," DeMint added. "But the American people must stand up and say it is bad policy, it's bad law, it's bad for our economy and it's bad for the American people. And most of all, it's bad for health care."

July 5, 2012 Obamacare's Many Victims by Sarah Torre of Heritage's DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society The Supreme Court's refusal to overturn President Barack Obama's health law (commonly referred to as "Obamacare") last week has set the stage for another legal battle over the law's onerous, liberty-trampling provisions.
Now, the fight for freedom turns to the 23 lawsuits filed thus far on behalf of dozens of victims of Obamacare's disregard for religious liberty, who will be forced to comply with the mandate to provide and pay for abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization-regardless of moral objections.
Obamacare's anti-conscience mandate displays the Administration's offensively constricted view of faith in public life, affording the narrowest religious exemption in federal law that effectively only applies to formal houses of worship. Schools, soup kitchens, health clinics, and countless other "Good Samaritan" groups are left completely unprotected by the exemption simply because they serve vulnerable individuals without regard to their creed or background.
During the Fortnight for Freedom over the past two weeks, Heritage has profiled just a few of the organizations that are helping sustain civil society-whose important work is threatened by Obamacare:
- Geneva College, a small Presbyterian school in western Pennsylvania and a plaintiff in one of mandate cases, will be forced to make difficult decisions about what resources, athletic programs, and maybe even scholarships should decrease to pay the government's fine on faith.
- Ave Maria University, a Catholic school in Naples, Florida, has already decided to drop student health plans for next school year because of increased costs of insurance under Obamacare and the mandate's trampling on the school and students' religious liberty.
- The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), available in almost 150 million households around the world, exists to educate viewers on the Catholic faith. Yet, under the Obamacare anti-conscience mandate, EWTN will be forced to teach one thing and practice another as it is coerced into providing and paying for coverage of life-ending drugs and services in direct contradiction to Catholic beliefs.
- St. Louis Catholic Charities is just one of many organizations connected to dioceses around the country that serve tens of thousands of people every year regardless of creed or background. Because Catholic Charities steps outside the four walls of a church to serve non-Catholics, the Obama Administration refuses to protect their religious freedom to work in accordance with the Catholic faith.
As Dr. Ken Smith, president of Geneva College, explained: "The issue that we have with the entire law is that the Obama Administration has tried to define religion as being that which churches do. We believe that religion takes us into the marketplace. There is both an internal community of faith responsibility of religion, but there is also an external service to community. That is religion."
Policymakers and national leaders should understand the primacy of religious freedom in the American constitutional order and work to protect that freedom, not undermine it. A robust conception of religion is an important anchor for religious freedom-freedom not merely to believe or teach certain doctrines but to live out one's faith in all aspects of life. Do you agree-or disagree-that religion's impact goes beyond the four walls of a church? Comment and interact with others on our blog >>

COMMENTARY The John Roberts Doctrine: Stopping at Red Lights Is Optional By Terence P. Jeffrey The Roberts Doctrine of Lawlessness can be summarized as follows: You need not stop at a red light as long as you can afford to pay the penalty for running it. How Much Will Obama Raise?
Posted: 05 Jul 2012 04:00 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
I am on a number of Democratic Party email lists; now and then I report on what they are saying. During the last week or two of June, I received an average of around three emails a day from the Obama campaign and affiliated organizations pleading with me to donate money. The tone of the emails was hysterical: the end of the month is approaching; we will have to report how much we have raised; the Republicans are raising enormous amounts of money; the Obama campaign is in danger of being outspent; and so on. The appeals were dotted with disparaging references to Karl Rove and the Koch brothers.
The Romney campaign released its June numbers today. It took in a very impressive $100 million, the most ever for a Republican candidate in a single month. (Obama holds the record of $150 million in September 2008). The Obama campaign has not yet published its June numbers, but if the shrill tone of the campaign's emails is any guide, it may not match Romney's total, just as it failed to equal the Romney campaign in May.
At the end of the day, both candidates will raise plenty of money to get their messages out. This election will not be like 2008, when Obama outspent John McCain by around two to one. Moreover, Jim Geraghty reports that, contrary to popular belief and Democratic Party claims, Super-PACs supportive of President Obama have spent twice as much on anti-Romney ads as conservative PACs have spent on anti-Obama ads. One hopes that will change; but again, the playing field in 2012 promises to be essentially level.
Which means that the election will turn on Obama's first-term record, as it should. Maybe that accounts for the hysterical tone of the Democrats' fundraising appeals.

Delusional Thinking on the Left
Posted: 05 Jul 2012 03:38 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
If you go to the Washington Post's web site, you will currently see, among others, the following headlines:
"Romney finds no safe ground on health-care mandate question."
"Bouie: Romney's 'tax' cave portends weakness."
"Mitt Romney's problem on the health-care mandate question."
"Romney's taxing twist on health care."
What is going on here is that liberal reporters and columnists are trying to convince us that the fact that the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare's mandate only as a tax, and that Obama's lawyers argued vociferously that the penalty is a tax, at the same time that Barack Obama denied it is a tax, is somehow Mitt Romney's problem rather than Obama's. This is a typical liberal tactic: if we say something over and over-in unison!-we can make people believe it.
But in this case, the liberals' attempt is delusional. Obamacare is Obama's unpopular program, not Romney's. The mandate is Obama's unpopular mandate; the tax is Obama's unpopular tax; and, for what it is worth, it was Obama's lawyers, not Romney's, who argued strenuously that the payment is a tax, thereby contradicting their boss. People who hate Obamacare, a large percentage of the electorate, will be motivated to vote for Mitt Romney, not Barack Obama, no matter how the Washington Post tries to spin the issue.

Hillary Clinton gives Pakistan an "apology" it accepts
Posted: 05 Jul 2012 08:18 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
After months of negotiations, Secretary of State Clinton has issued a statement of regret that satisfies Pakistan regarding the killing by U.S. forces of two dozen Pakistani soldiers in a cross-border fire fight. As a result, Pakistan will re-open the NATO supply line to Afghanistan.
Here is the statement Clinton issued to Pakistan:
I once again reiterated our deepest regrets for the tragic incident in Salala last November. I offered our sincere condolences to the families of the Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives. Foreign Minister Khar and I acknowledged the mistakes that resulted in the loss of Pakistani military lives. We are sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military. We are committed to working closely with Pakistan and Afghanistan to prevent this from ever happening again.
This stops short of being a true apology. The incident is "regretted," not apologized for. Mistakes are acknowledged, but not described specifically or uniquely as U.S. mistakes. The U.S. is sorry for the Pakistani losses, not for our actions.
Pakistan, however, promptly trumpeted Clinton's statement as an apology, and the U.S. issued no statement contradicting the characterization.
In short, this is a classic diplomatic resolution. We got what we wanted - the reopening of the supply line. Pakistan got what it wanted - something it could pass off as an apology. And relations between the two countries presumably have been marginally improved.
Still, I wonder whether this was the best way for the U.S. to proceed. According to Max Boot, it costs the U.S. about an extra $100 million a month to bring goods to Afghanistan through central Asia instead of through Pakistan. That's not a small amount, but I suspect the price might be worth taking a new direction in our dealings with Pakistan, particularly since it could be accompanied by a reduction of aid to the ever-unreliable Pakistanis.
The U.S. will need to strike terrorists and insurgents in Pakistan going forward. It might have been wise to signal to the Pakistanis that we will do so without "regret" and without the constraint that comes from desiring access to their supply lines. Hillary Clinton's finely-crafted statement will likely send a different signal.

Is wishful thinking about the economy the key to Obama's reelection chances?
Posted: 05 Jul 2012 07:45 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
A new CNN poll indicates that, by a 73-27 percent split, most Americans believe that the state of the American economy is poor rather than good. Yet, by a split of 60-39, most Americans believe the economy will be good in 2013. CNN polled "adult Americans" rather than registered or likely voters. However, given the nature of the question, the small number of non-registered respondents in the poll, and the decisiveness of the margins, I'm not sure this matters.
I'm always not sure how to explain why so many people expect a major economic turnaround for the better next year. However, if Americans truly believe that good times are just around the corner, then I imagine they will reelect President Obama.
On the other hand, the burst of optimism detected by CNN may not last until November. The U.S. manufacturing sector contracted last month for the first time in three years. The effects of the contraction may be felt within the next few months.
CNN also asked which of the two presidential candidates would do a better job on the economy and other important areas. Here, results are provided for registered voters. This group split down the middle (48-47 for Romney) on whether Obama or Romney would do a better job on the economy. However, independents tilted for Romney on this question, by a 52-41. Given the way independents broke, it may be that CNN over-polled Democrats.
Respondents in battleground states also went for Romney, 52-42. But the original sample size of around 1,300 shrinks considerably when you consider only responses from battleground states.
As to other issues, respondents trust Romney more than Obama on the federal budget deficit and, by a small margin, immigration. They trust the president more on foreign policy, but don't regard foreign policy as a top-tier issue.
Overall, this poll suggests that the presidential race will remain close and that Obama needs enough decent economic news to sustain the apparent optimism about what the economy will look like next year.
But again, this poll sampled registered voters, not likely ones. And it shows that Obama's break-even rating with Romney on which candidate would better handle the economy was built on the opinions of low-income and young respondents. These groups seem less likely to turn-out in November than the older and better-off respondents whose confidence is with Romney, not Obama.
