Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!
Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):
Study: Welfare Spending Up 41% Under Obama To More Than $193 Billion Per Year, Poverty Levels Unchanged...
It's almost like government welfare doesn't lift people out of poverty.
(CNSNews.com) - The federal government is not making much headway reducing poverty despite spending hundreds of billions of dollars, according to a study by the libertarian Cato Institute.
Despite an unprecedented increase in federal anti-poverty spending, the national poverty rate has not declined, the study finds.
"[S]ince President Obama took office [in January 2009], federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent, more than $193 billion per year," the study says.
Federal welfare spending in fiscal year 2011 totaled $668 billion, spread out over 126 programs, while the poverty rate that remains high at 15.1 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared a federal War on Poverty.
In 1966, the first year after Johnson declared war on poverty, the national poverty rate was 14.7 percent, according to Census Bureau figures. Over time, the poverty rate has fluctuated in a narrow range between 11 and 15 percent, only falling into the 11 percent range for a few years in the late 1970's.

Let's get together and talk about our next steps as we get ready to take out Barack Obama and Bob Casey this Fall! After a very well attended Get Out The Vote training day in Bucks County in early June, we are now ready to put into practice all the tools we learned from FreedomWorks.
We all came together back in 2009 because we were outraged by the election of Barack Obama, the passage of Obamacare and the direction of our country financially and ideologically. The time has come, perhaps our last chance to truly make a stance, for us to unite and work to defeat the progressive agenda which has already infiltrated us so deeply. The first step towards a big win in November starts now! So, we, at The Kitchen Table Patriots, urge you to come out to make a difference, we can plug you in where you are needed.
This is where you can make a difference that really matters!

While plans for school vouchers remain mired in the General Assembly, some lawmakers are supporting a new idea to help kids in failing schools. Rep. Jim Christiana, R-Beaver, is introducing a bill that would create a $100 million tax credit program aimed at children in poor-performing schools. The bill to create the new Educational Improvement Scholarship Credit will be introduced today in the House of Representatives. The program would try to build on the state's $75 million Educational Improvement Tax Credit program. That program grants tax credit to companies that donate to preschool and K-12 scholarships to students or to innovative public education programs. Tax credits for this program typically are spoken for in a matter of days after they become available. The new tax credit program would be limited to companies donating to organizations that provide scholarships to students in the state's worst-performing schools. In Christiana's plan as well as the existing EITC program, businesses donating to scholarship organizations could cut their state taxes by up to 90 cents on every dollar donated to education. The goal of Christiana's plan is to generate enough money to provide an escape for 30,000 low- and middle-income students in failing public schools. His plan would provide scholarships of up to $8,500 for a regular education student and up to $15,000 for a special-needs student. "I think it is a very attractive program to those that want to help these kids get out of the violent underperforming schools," Christiana said. Support for a new education tax credit is evolving among House Republican leaders. "I think it's definitely something we should do," said House Majority Whip Stan Saylor, R-York.
Privatization of Liquor Stores
The time has come, once and for all, to give Pennsylvanians the freedom to choose their own wine and spirits -- without the government's monopoly of mediocrity. Government in the booze business has always been a lose business. Let's give our legislators a final push to let them know the time is now to get government out of the booze business! Currently, this issue is stalled in the House of Representatives so your phone calls, emails and faxes can have a positive effect in getting this to a vote before the Legislators leave Harrisburg for the Summer.
By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

"Losing our Sons": Documentary looks at domestic Islamic radicalization and jihadization
Charles Jacobs at Americans for Peace and Tolerance announced today the release of a trailer for their upcoming documentary, "Losing Our Sons", featuring Melvin Bledsoe - father of domestic terrorist Carlos Bledsoe aka Abdulhakim Mohamed who gunned down US Army recruiter Pvt. William Long at an Army-Navy recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas in June 2009. Melvin Bledsoe testified at the House Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this month.
The upcoming documentary discusses how Bledsoe was radicalized by the Muslim Student Association in Tennessee and sent to terrorist training in Yemen with the written recommendation of the imam of a Nashville mosque. It also discusses how the agents of radicalization in the Nashville Muslim community have been aided by collaborators in the establishment media, politics and the so-called "interfaith" community.
Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.
Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
Tonight, Sunday June 3rd, CUFI Founder and Chairman, Pastor John Hagee, will be announcing an exciting new CUFI initiative. You can click here to watch it live at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific). This link will not be live until 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific) tonight.
Tonight, Pastor Hagee will be announcing the creation of the Israel Defense Fund. This emergency fund will enable CUFI to meet the major challenges we anticipate in the coming months.
CUFI has accomplished great things for Israel. But the times in which we live demand that we do even more -- and do so now!
We need to do more to defend Israel in the public square and in the media. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to purchase more pro-Israel billboards across America as well as full-page newspaper ads as circumstances demand.
We need to do more to defend Israel on our college campuses. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to train even more students and hold even more pro-Israel events on campuses across the country.
We need to do more to defend Israel before our leaders. The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to be more active than ever in educating our nation's leaders about the justice of Israel's cause.
Even if you can't watch the broadcast, don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of the Israel Defense Fund! Click here now to contribute.
We will not be silent. Together, we will do more than ever to stand up and speak up for Israel.
May God Bless You and Those that You Love,

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

DEMS OUT OF CASH: MAY CANCEL CONVENTION KICKOFF
(Bloomberg) - Democrats canceled a political convention kick-off event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and will move the activities to Charlotte's main business district, the convention's host committee announced.
"While we regret having to move CarolinaFest away from our great partners at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the City of Concord, we are thrilled with the opportunity that comes with hosting this event in Uptown Charlotte," said Dan Murrey, the executive director of the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee.
The move comes as party planners are grappling with a fundraising deficit of roughly $27 million, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity to discuss internal party politics. With a party ban on direct contributions from corporations, the host committee has raised less than $10 million, well short of its $36.6 million goal, said one of the people.
Murrey said that logistics, not costs, were behind the decision to cancel the Speedway event.
"In order to facilitate public caucus meetings -- and to maximize accessibility, transportation, and proximity of all guests -- we have decided that moving CarolinaFest 2012 to Uptown Charlotte is the best way to achieve that goal," Murrey said in a statement that the host committee released this morning, after Bloomberg reported last night that it may call off the Speedway festival.
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
Air Force One turned to Air Force Waaaaahhhh yesterday in Atlanta. Barack Obama tied up lunch time traffic in the Peach State once again while he milked it for money. During a public speech, President Obama formally abdicated his role as Commander in Chief to become Chief Victim. Those dirty Republicans are outspending him, he cried to a sympathetic audience.
In fact, this may be the first time Barack Obama has ever been outspent and he just can't handle rejection.
In 2008, the Annenberg Public Policy Center reported that Barack Obama outspent John McCain 3 to 1 and "raised more money than anyone in the history of U.S. politics."
Turn about would be fair play except the present President has the temperament of a four year old and the skin of an onion. Consequently, he is forced to whine.
The simple truth is that rich leftists have not continued being rich leftists by being stupid. Even rich leftists will not throw good money after bad. People are, right now, voting with their wallets to reject Barack Obama and the trend will, hopefully, continue.
Bluntly, had Barack Obama not spent the past three years implementing policies that lowered the standard of living of many of his most ardent supporters, his supporters might have more money to give.
It would appear that the Democratic party cannot afford a fourth day of festivities, to the point where they're going to cancel their orignial kickoff event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. But don't worry: the ceremonial anointing of The One will still be taking place at the Bank of America Stadium. Hold on, let me repeat that, for the benefit of the six remaining progressives out there who are still pretending that the President cares about their somewhat sad attempt to create a populist movement.
December 2010 was not ancient history; it was a mere 18 months ago.
On December 8, 2010, using the proper legal channels to change our immigration laws, the Democrat-controlled House passed the DREAM Act. Just 4.5% of Republicans supported it, even though it represented a "long-term solution" and was introduced in Congress. A week later, the bill failed to win 60 votes in the Senate, as only 3 Republicans supported it; Lisa Murkowski, Robert Bennett, and Dick Lugar. Some might even be brazen enough to call them RINOs.
That was 18 months ago. Now, after Obama has illegally implemented administrative amnesty to reflect that law that failed to pass the Senate, Republicans are largely silent. With the exception of Lamar Smith, Steve King, and a handful of rank-and-file members, Republican leaders have either remained silent, punted to Mitt Romney for a response, or offered some non-sequitur about long-term solutions vs. short-term solutions. Not only are they terrified to oppose the underlying policy, which will bankrupt us with subsidized tuition, refundable tax credits, and sundry transfer programs, most of them have issued only a tepid response to Obama's end-run around Congress.
Shale technology coupled with horizontal drilling has created the biggest oil and natural gas boom in recent years. Fracking could become the most auspicious innovation of the past decade. It has already created thousands of jobs, and has the potential to drive down the cost of energy and reinvigorate our economy. Unfortunately, the more successful the private innovation, the more Obama's regulatory regime will ensure it faces inexorable obstacles.

Making Sense of the Egyptian Presidential Election
The Arena with Michael Coren, Sun News Network June 25, 2012
If this extremely disturbing video does not result in a Federal investigation into the human rights violations of those Christians physically attacked at the 2012 Dearborn Arab Festival then we are watching the beginning of a new America, a MUSLIM AMERICA.
In this new America, a MUSLIM AMERICA, shariah-compliant Muslims have succeeded in striking fear into the hearts of the infidels. In the case of the Dearborn Arab Festival, you will see that the infidels are NOT the few, brave Christians who withstood the physical attacks by the blood-thirsty Muslims, but the fearful are those who have taken an oath to protect Americans. The fearful, are the Dearborn Sheriff and Police. Sadly, you will see the Police fearful of confronting the criminals and enforcing the law as they stand by watching "Muslims Gone Wild," attack the helpless Christians.
The United West predicts that success of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt combined with the mounting fury of the "Arab Spring," coupled with the support of President Obama will result in an expansive, "strong-horse" onslaught of Muslim physical aggression, similar to this Dearborn disaster, all across the new, MUSLIM AMERICA.
Taxmageddon Could Trigger New Downturn Taxmageddon, a one-year $494 billion tax increase, threatens to strike the economy on January 1, 2013 unless Congress and President Obama act to stop it soon. Our new interactive map reveals the tax increases people will face in every state and Congressional District unless Taxmageddon is stopped.
Delay Obamacare Tax Increases, Stop Taxmageddon
Stopping Taxmageddon includes reversing five new tax increases in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the 2,700 page law better known as Obamacare.
Obamacare imposes numerous tax hikes which total more than $500 billion over 10 years. Obamacare's higher tax rates on income and investment will slow economic growth, leaving hardworking American families and businesses worse off.

In a contentious radio interview today, former New York Mayor Ed Koch expressed support for suggestions by some members of the city's Board of Health to ban large tubs of popcorn and big cups of milk- containing beverages.
Those proposed bans were reportedly discussed during a meeting earlier this month of NYC's 11-member health board at which Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed embargo on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces was approved.

Russia has sent a backdoor warning to Turkey and NATO that Moscow will not tolerate any military action against Syria in response to the downing of a Turkish aircraft on Friday, according to a Syrian government source.
The source told KleinOnline the Syrian military is on its second highest alert as Turkey announced yesterday it will discuss the downing of one of its military jets by Syria with NATO officials at a special meeting on Tuesday.
As a NATO member, Turkey could ask the international alliance to respond against Syria.
The last time Aaron Sorkin had a high-profile political television show, liberals used it to cope with the decline and fall of the Clinton Presidency and the long winter of the Bush Years. The West Wing was a coping mechanism for the death of a liberal dream, and so is The Newsroom. Both are an escape into fantasy to avoid dealing with the harsh reality.
On an episode of Seinfeld, George is stung by an insult but is unable to think of a retort, so he spends days trying to come up with the perfect comeback, until he finally thinks of it and travels around the country to get the chance to deliver it. The Newsroom, set in the past, and jumping in right before the political balance tilted toward the Republicans in the mid-term elections, is the same thing.
The Newsroom is Sorkin's sad attempt to win an argument by rewriting history and coming up with all the comebacks that his side couldn't think of two years ago. It's the sad and pathetic spectacle of an ideology creating its own fantasy version of its reality in which it won the argument.
Unlike The West Wing, The Newsroom isn't set in an alternate world in which the universe innately favors liberals. Instead it's set in an alternate version of the past, in which liberals were smarter and won all the arguments that they ended up losing here. And the existence of The Newsroom is the greatest possible concession that the argument was lost.
There's no reason for Republicans to look down on The Newsroom. It's a safer outlet for liberal anger than Occupy Wall Street. It's a miniature universe in which they are smarter, nobler and better than everyone else. Children have fantasy worlds like that. There's no reason that liberals shouldn't. Not only does it give them the security of believing that they really were superior, but it prevents them from learning any useful lessons from their defeat.
It's never a bad thing when your enemies escape into a delusional state, to a world of their making in which they are in complete control of everything. It makes it more likely that they will cede at least some control over the real world. And it's not only an admission of defeat, but of emotional and mental fragility. Adults don't need to build fantasy worlds to escape the effects of their failures on their precious self-esteem. That's for overgrown children who are used to getting trophies for just showing up.
The Newsroom is the kid that everyone hated losing his race for class president and creating a fantasy world in which he won the election and everyone cheered his obnoxious tantrums. It may not be good for him, but it's good for us because it means he hasn't learned to win. All that he's learned to do is manage the emotional experience of defeat through delusional tantrums of superiority.
Of all the weird, creepy and false left-wing religious tenets the Obama administration has forced down this nation's throat, none is as impossible to swallow as the myth of the president's superior character.
The Supreme Court declaring Obamacare dead will not necessarily help Governor Romney and the Republicans -- we need the proper bill to replace it. Here are eight health care fixes for the Romney campaign to consider
Dems Forced to Downsize Once Again as Convention Fundraising Falls Short
by John Sexton
In January the DNC announced it would be downsizing its national convention from four days to three. The first day, September 3rd, would instead be used to celebrate the region with a big NASCAR-themed kickoff event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It makes perfect sense given what a huge NASCAR fan the President is.
Late Monday, the DNC announced another convention downsizing. The big kickoff event would be moved from the Speedway to downtown Charlotte. According to spokeswoman Suzi Emmerling the move was prompted by concern over the logistics of shuttling people 18 miles to and from the track. Logistically it just makes more sense to have the kickoff downtown with the rest of the events.
Zachery King claims that he was beaten and arrested by five police officers after they noticed he was carrying a gun. King swears that he told the cops he had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and that only made things worse. See the video HERE.
Citizens of St. Louis, Mo., were told not to be alarmed should they see military tanks rolling down their street. Even with this warning, though, some wondered why the U.S. Army was taking the vehicles off the base and to the streets in the first place. Learn the "official" reason HERE.

Coal today may seem of little relevance to many residents of New York City or other American urban centers. It long ago ceased to fuel the furnaces of their homes and apartment buildings in winter.
But long after it disappeared from the uses most visible to city dwellers, coal is still the critical fuel behind the everyday functions of their lives. Across the U.S., for more than a century, coal has remained quietly at work -- providing in recent years nearly half the electricity that lights urban buildings and streets, keeps air conditioners humming on hot days and energizes computers and TVs to inform and entertain. Electricity generated with coal powers the factories that produce all manner of food, clothing, cars and other goods for Americans everywhere.
Coal maintains that role with good reason. It is America's most abundant energy resource; our coal reserves are the world's largest, sufficient to last more than 250 years. That abundance makes coal affordable; over the decades its price has been far more stable that of another major power generation fuel, natural gas. And way below costs of those promising but still-unproven resources, solar and wind power.

This latest recession started in December 2007. Since the Great Depression 75 years ago, recessions in America have lasted an average of 10 months, with the longest previously lasting 16 months, not counting this latest spooky downturn.
The National Bureau of Economic Research, the recognized scorekeeper of recessions, declared this latest recession over in June 2009, which would make it the longest recession since the Great Depression. The historical precedent in America is the deeper the recession, the stronger the recovery, as the American economy accelerates to return to its long-term trend line. Based on that precedent, we should be in the third year of a raging recovery boom by now. Instead, we have suffered the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression under Obamanomics.
Unemployment was actually higher for 18 months after the recovery supposedly started. Instead of recovery, America has suffered the longest period of unemployment above 8 percent since the Great Depression under President Obama's public policy malpractice. Even last month, 53 months after the recession started, the economy created a mere 69,000 new jobs, with unemployment rising again to 8.2 percent. The May Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report adjusted downward the jobs created in March and April by 49,000, leaving a net of just 20,000 new jobs. The number of jobs created has declined every month this year.

WALNUT CREEK, OHIO
Out here in Amish country, an island of tranquillity amid America's frenetic culture, news of the titanic power struggle over Obamacare in Washington seeps in like unwanted flotsam. You catch glimpses of it when tourists check their iPhones or you overhear people talking about it over their shoofly pie and coffee.
The U.S. Supreme Court is about to rule on the law's constitutionality, and it's more important than it should be. That's because Americans already have ceded far too much power to government at all levels.
Think about it. A nation of more than 310 million people is waiting with bated breath on nine people in black robes. How did this happen? Well, long ago, America made a deal with the devil. Here's how it works:
"I'll give you free rein to engage in any vice you want, from illicit sex to drug abuse," the devil said. "All you have to do in return is allow government to grow exponentially to run every other aspect of your lives. And I mean every aspect, right down to which light bulbs you can buy and who makes life-and-death medical decisions."
President Obama's Perfect Plan for the Economic Decline of America
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published June 21, 2012 on Forbes.com.
Last week on June 14, President Obama announced his economic plan to finally bring economic recovery and growth to the U.S. in a much ballyhooed address in Cleveland. He threw down the gauntlet to Mitt Romney on the issue, saying "more than anything else, this election presents a choice between two fundamentally different visions of how to create strong sustained growth; how to pay down our long term debt; and most of all, how to generate good, middle-class jobs...."
Truer words have never been spoken by the President. So let's examine the two fundamentally different visions and see which can produce strong sustained growth, pay down our long term debt, and generate good, middle class jobs.
Under President Obama's plan, on January 1 of next year the top tax rates of virtually every major federal tax will increase, as already enacted under current law. That is because the tax increases of Obamacare would go into effect, and the Bush tax cuts would expire, which Obama refuses to renew for singles making over $200,000 a year, and couples making over $250,000. The English translation of that target for the tax increases is the nation's small businesses, job creators and investors.

He has written for the Wall Street Journal, National Review, and Investor's Business Daily, and is the author of several books, including The American Economy in Historical Perspective and Going Broke by Degree: Why College Costs Too Much.
The following is adapted from a speech delivered on May 10, 2012, at Hillsdale College's Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C.
FEDERAL STUDENT financial assistance programs are costly, inefficient, byzantine, and fail to serve their desired objectives. In a word, they are dysfunctional, among the worst of many bad federal programs.
These programs are commonly rationalized on three grounds: on the grounds that assuring more young people a higher education has positive spillover effects for the country; on the grounds that higher education promotes equal economic opportunity (or, as the politicians say, that it is "a ticket to achieving the American Dream"); or on the grounds that too few students would go to college in the absence of federal loan programs, since private markets for loans to college students are defective.
All three of these arguments are dubious at best. The alleged positive spillover effects of sending more and more Americans to college are very difficult to measure. And as the late Milton Friedman suggested to me shortly before his death, they may be more than offset by negative spillover effects. Consider, for instance, the relationship between spending by state governments on higher education and their rate of economic growth. Controlling for other factors important in growth determination, the relationship between education spending and economic growth is negative or, at best, non-existent.
Has the Day of the Islamist Arrived? By Patrick J. Buchanan Witnessing what is happening in critical Arab countries such as Egypt and Syria -- and across the region -- one is tempted to ask: What are the fruits of three decades of compulsive U.S. intervention in the Islamic world?
Too Much College By Walter E. Williams There's no evidence that a college education is an economic imperative. A good part of our higher education problem, explaining its spiraling cost, is that a large percentage of students currently attending college are ill-equipped and incapable of doing real college work. They shouldn't be there, wasting their own resources and those of their families and taxpayers.
We haven't heard the boast that "Obama will have 1 $ billion to run on," for quite a while, but those who are hoping Barack Obama will be reelected have to be shocked at the relative condition of his fund raising so far. Knowing how to count and read tells anyone Obama could not get to 1 $ billion at the rate he is progressing since last summer. Nevertheless, this fact is scarcely touched upon in the mainstream media as if not speaking about it means his fund raising problems don't exist.
Last week Obama raised eyebrows instead of money when it was announced he was asking people who are getting married or celebrating other events where monetary gifts are customary to redirect the money to his campaign. Given this fact, how long will it be before legions of Obama's sycophants stand on street corners shaking tin cans with "Forward" on them?
The Korean War started JUNE 25, 1950. Communist North Korea invaded South Korea, killing thousands. General Douglas MacArthur was given command of the U.N. Forces and after a daring landing of troops at Inchon, MacArthur recaptured the city of Seoul. Political involvement prolonged the war, resulting in high casualties. President Truman stated in his 1952 Christmas Message: "Our hearts turn first of all to our brave men and women in Korea. They are fighting and suffering and even dying that we may preserve the chance of peace in the world." Truman continued: "Let us remember always to try to act...in the spirit of the Prince of Peace. He bore in His heart no hate and no malice - nothing but love for all mankind. We should...follow His example... As we pray for our men and women in Korea...let us also pray for ... This morning we have once again been reminded that our system of checks and balances no longer functions for the good of the American people.
Nine lawyers in the Supreme Court, hiding behind legalese, written by other lawyers has decided that American's, through our various states, have no right to either enforce the sovereignty and security of our borders or demand that the federal government's lawyers do so.
We don't count in the cynical view of the lawyers that have wormed their way into controlling our lives essentially "because WE say so." Oh they claim the United States Constitution sanctions and supports their denial of our rights of self-defense, but the truth is they have stolen away the power of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution by bowing to claims that what is abundantly obvious is not at all obvious. In effect the Supreme Court has cynically asked us "Who are you going ... Continue Reading:The Supreme Court has insulted our intelligence with its decision: we'll give them ours in November
As the nation awaits the Supreme Court's ruling on ObamaCare, our friends at The Weekly Standard have gone back and reviewed the polling data. Here's what they found:
"...[F]rom March 2010 through a poll released this morning, Rasmussen has conducted 98 polls of likely voters. All 98 times, support for repeal has [been the winner]. Across 98 contests, Obamacare has gone 0 and 98. Here are a few interesting stats from those 98 polls of likely voters:
"Number of times that a plurality has favored repeal: 98.
"Number of times that an outright majority has favored repeal: 96.
"Number of times that repeal has been favored by a double-digit margin: 95. ...
"Average margin in favor of repeal: 17 percentage points. ...
"In addition to Rasmussen's polling, Real Clear Politics lists 20 other polls on repeal from across the past 27 months. In 19 of those 20, support for repeal has outpaced opposition to repeal -- giving Obamacare an overall record of 1-117."
Given the polling data, Republicans might consider making ObamaCare and everything it represents -- bigger government, higher taxes, more spending, an unprecedented assault on religious liberty -- a much bigger issue in this campaign.
Update On Hunter Rogers
Here's a disturbing update on Hunter Rogers -- the North Carolina high school student who videotaped his teacher threatening him with jail for allegedly being disrespectful toward Barack Obama. The teacher, Tanya Dixon-Neely, was initially suspended with pay. She has since been told that she will be allowed to keep her job. But that's not the disturbing part.
After Rogers' video went viral, he became the subject of threats and harassment from students and the school! In an interview with Breitbart News, his sister said that there are students in school who are related to Dixon-Neely and they have physically threatened him.
Worse, school officials have berated him for embarrassing the school and refused the family's request to allow Rogers to complete his final three weeks of the school year at home for his own safety. According to the report, Rogers was permitted to come to school late, "be secluded from other students during the school day" and leave late so as to avoid being assaulted. In short, the atmosphere is so bad that the only way the school can guarantee his safety is to isolate him.
And to add insult to injury, the school slapped Rogers with a suspension for videotaping in the classroom!
Imagine if this situation were reversed. Suppose a gay teenager had been "bullied" by a conservative teacher. I guarantee you that teacher would have been fired on the spot. Moreover, the school would have bent over backwards to accommodate any request from the family and to quash the "atmosphere of hate" if he felt threatened by other students.
It's okay to videotape cops roughing up someone without knowing anything else about what happened before that incident. Those folks are hailed as heroes. The Occupy Wall Street movement constantly videotaped the police, hoping to intimidate them. But a kid who videotapes his teacher trying to indoctrinate a class with false information about Barack Obama gets punished.
This is how the left wins, my friends. The "tyrants of tolerance" do not hesitate to intimidate and silence their opposition. They are bitter, angry people. We saw it in the violence and vandalism that was so rampant in the Occupy Wall Street movement.
We saw in the hatred that was directed at the Mormon Church and some small businesses after Proposition 8 passed in California. We saw it Friday when news broke about the disgusting and demeaning behavior in the White House toward Ronald Reagan and other conservatives.
We see it in how the Obama Administration is now punishing Arizona and demanding that the Catholic Church and other religious institutions violate their core values. The left wants to control you, and it will if we don't fight back!
Please go to CWFPAC.com right now. Help us raise the resources we need to defend our values and take America back!
Obama's Imperial Presidency
The trend in recent decades toward more power being concentrated in the executive branch has reached its high point in the Obama White House. Obama's first three and a half years have resurrected the title "the imperial presidency," a term that captures how much Obama's presidency has exceeded its constitutional limits. Read more in my weekly column at humanevents.com.
The Court found that three provisions, which regulated alien registration, illegal aliens seeking employment, and arrest of individuals based upon possible removability, were preempted by federal law.
But importantly, by an 8-0 vote, the court upheld the power of state law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of those who have been stopped or detained for a lawful purpose. Justice Elena Kagan recused herself.
These decisions come at a time when the immigration debate is heating up. Heritage Foundation legal scholar John G. Malcolm writes on why immigration enforcement is critical to Arizona and other U.S. border states,
Arizona and other border states bear the largest burden when immigration laws are not enforced federally or when rules are overlooked. And the burden is significant. There are 2,000 miles along the southwest border, 370 of which adjoin Arizona. Illegal entries and border smuggling by "coyotes" are rampant, with an accompanying influx of drugs, dangerous criminals, and vulnerable people (who often end up as victims of human trafficking). Between 2006 and 2010, in the border town of Nogales alone, 51 drug smuggling tunnels were discovered. Home invasions and kidnappings are common in Arizona.
The Obama administration has already raised objections to the ruling, and plans a frontal assault on the remainder of the legislation. Although the Arizona law explicitly prohibits racial profiling, President Obama said yesterday that "no American should ever live under a cloud of suspicion just because of what they look like."
The ruling limits the President's authority to issue executive orders to prevent states from participating in immigration verification processes. "The President may disagree," Malcolm explains, "but for his disagreement to actually have the force of law, he will have to persuade members of Congress-a refreshing change for a President who has seen fit to go it alone far too frequently."

Last month, the USS Essex, an amphibious assault vessel, collided with another ship, the USNS Yukon, off the coast of California. The Navy's investigation of the accident determined that the Essex lost steering control, and dismissed the ship's commanding officer, Capt. Chuck Litchfield.
This incident brings to question the role of the government in maintaining its defenses. While the incident was likely caused by a combination of human error and mechanical failure, this incident is indicative of the deterioration of our national defenses.
The collision should cue the Obama administration to increase defense spending, rather than cut it as is planned.

Next week on Independence Day,many Americans will hang the stars and stripes to celebrate our freedom and the optimism of our Founding Fathers. But many of us feel discouraged by the challenges we face as a nation in this critical moment in history. Some people have given up on the American Dream and no longer believe America is the greatest country on earth and in all human history.
It's all too easy to throw our hands up in despair, but a new book written by New York Times best-selling authors Ed Feulner, president of The Heritage Foundation and Brian Tracy reminds us that such pessimism is unwarranted.
The American Spirit: Celebrating the Values and Virtues that Make Us Great is packed with engaging stories, inspiring profiles and eye-opening statistics.
As you celebrate Independence Day with your friends and family, never forget that an indomitable spirit does exist-that it defines us a people, and must be preserved for the nation to flourish.
This week, the United States Supreme Court will render a historic decision on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"). However the Court rules on the specific legal issues - those affecting the reach of congressional power over the lives of individuals and states-a much more basic question remains: How are we to govern ourselves?
It's an unavoidable question. The massive edifice of Obamacare is the greatest triumph of Progressive governance in the last hundred years: It establishes the intrusive rule of appointed and tenured "experts"-operating though a multiplicity of boards, panels and commissions- who enforce their notions of what is good for us through detailed rules and regulations. This is rule by administrators-another stage in the evolution of the "fourth branch" of government, America's expanding administrative state.
Obamacare is also just the latest expansion of a bureaucratic empire of many kingdoms. Step by statutory step, Congress has been transferring lawmaking powers to federal agencies. Their power to make rules having the force of law has been rooted in broad and often intentionally vague statutory language, and nourished by malign neglect. Congress has persistently failed to stop, re-examine, and roll back bureaucratic excesses.
When the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) became operational in 1970, legislative delegation had locked in its regulatory power, which judicial rulings confirmed. The aggressive agency's own initiatives, including the granting and withholding of waivers, became commonplace. When EPA decided in 2009 to classify carbon dioxide - a natural substance that sustains plant life - as a dangerous pollutant, Congress played a tertiary role as a mere stagehand in a national drama with vast economic consequences. The agency has thus emerged as one of the most powerful players in the American economy.
Meanwhile, Obamacare has fattened the Feds' official rule book by over 12,000 pages. The edicts range from the kind of health insurance, plans, and benefits we must have to a weird requirement that we must fund federally certified abortifacients. If the law stands, it is only the beginning. As we have already seen with exemptions for the officially favored-ranging from union health plans to chic San Francisco restaurants-some Americans will be treated differently from others. Invariably, the rule of regulators is arbitrary.
One can, of course, complain. But tenured civil servants are not accountable to voters. Their rule-making is an often murky process, whose results are known but to those poor souls who take The Federal Register with their morning coffee.
However the Supreme Court disposes of Obamacare, Congress must never again repeat such a gigantic statutory mistake. If Congress can make the administrative state, Congress can unmake it. Lawmakers must write clear and intelligible statutes, undertake serious regulatory reform, and demand greater agency accountability in federal rule-making. They must first control themselves, and then the control freaks.
Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute -- a think tank -- whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.
Finishing the Fight We Started
On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to deliver its decision on the constitutionality of Obamacare. The Supreme Court's decision promises to be one of the most consequential decisions in a generation and will either reaffirm limits on federal power or open the floodgates for Washington to expand. Regardless, we all have much work left to do in 2012 and beyond to return America to the constitutional principles which have made ours a great idea as well as a great nation.
Just two years ago, full repeal wasn't even on Congress's radar; in fact, many in the Washington Establishment considered full repeal to be a political distraction. It wasn't until Heritage Action launched in June 2010 that the dynamic began to shift. Several steadfast lawmakers introduced a Heritage Action-inspired discharge petition to force a vote on fully repealing Obamacare.
Thanks to conservative activists like you, Discharge Petition #11 became a talking point in town halls all around the country. In a few short months, there was bipartisan support for full repeal, which became the standard Republican position that every GOP presidential candidate embraced.
It was not the first time conservative activists changed conventional wisdom in Washington, and it won't be the last.
Our government relies on a set of checks and balances, and while the Supreme Court is one cog on the gear, the ultimate check on the government is the people. You and your fellow Americans have already ruled on Obamacare: it's bad medicine that must be repealed.
Regardless of the outcome on Thursday, we will need you as we continue this fight. Whether it is repealing what remains of Obamacare or standing with us as we move forward on patient-oriented reforms that reduce cost, there will be work to do.
Thank you in advance for standing up for individual liberties and freedom.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham Chief Executive Officer Heritage Action for America
The Supreme Court handed down its decision on the Arizona immigration law yesterday, striking some portions of the law in a 5-3 ruling but unanimously upholding immigration status checks by law enforcement. The Obama Administration countered by announcing it would tell Arizona to release most of the people whose status was in question.
Following the Court's decision, law enforcement officers must make a "reasonable attempt...to determine the immigration status" of any person they stop, detain, or arrest for a non-immigration offense if "reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien unlawfully present in the United States." That check would involve a call to the Department of Homeland Security, which maintains a 24/7 hotline for this purpose, as the federal government determines who may enter and remain in the country.
"That means police statewide can immediately begin calling to check immigration status-but federal officials are likely to reject most of those calls," reports Stephen Dinan of The Washington Times. "Federal officials said they'll still perform the checks as required by law but will respond only when someone has a felony conviction on his or her record. Absent that, [they] will tell the local police to release the person."
The Administration has shown little regard for the other branches of government in most of its policy making, including immigration. President Obama's recent move to exempt young illegals from the threat of deportation-without a law made by Congress-drew the attention of Justice Antonin Scalia in his dissent in the Arizona decision.
In striking down some of the Arizona law's provisions, the Court said that federal immigration law preempted the state law. That should mean that it is the federal government's job to enforce these aspects of immigration law where the Court says the feds have exclusive jurisdiction. But the Obama Administration has made it clear that will not happen on its watch.
Not only is Obama's Homeland Security Department already planning to release most people questioned under the Arizona law, but it also is paving the way to challenge the law with allegations of racial profiling. This is despite the fact that the Arizona law (S.B. 1070) expressly prohibits racial profiling in immigration checks-and the Administration's own attorney told the Supreme Court that its challenge to the law was not based on any racial or ethnic profiling concerns.
The President's statement yesterday planted the seeds for this strategy by saying, "No American should ever live under a cloud of suspicion just because of what they look like."
Though the Administration's lawyer admitted that racial profiling was not an issue in the Arizona case, the Administration is certainly looking to make it an issue now-it has set up a hotline "for the public to report potential civil rights concerns regarding the Arizona law," the Associated Press reports.
Neither side got all of what it wanted in the Arizona immigration decision, but the Supreme Court confirmed that states have an important role to play in enforcing federal immigration law. States should not have to beg the federal government for permission to enforce laws within their borders.
As Heritage's John Malcolm noted:
Arizona is not alone. As The New York Times reports, "In sustaining one provision and blocking others, the decision amounted to a road map for permissible state efforts in this area. Several other states have enacted tough measures to stem illegal immigration, including ones patterned after the Arizona law, among them Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah."
With this decision, the Court has reaffirmed the important principle that, much as he might want to, President Obama cannot prevent the states from taking action to enforce federal immigration laws just by saying that he doesn't want them to do so.
House Approves Bill Granting Border Patrol Access to Federal Lands along Border
The House approved legislation Tuesday that would waive certain environmental laws in order to allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents to gain greater access to federal land within 100 miles of the border.

Police harass man with concealed weapon and license
99.9% of the time police are incredibly professional and don't cross the line. And given their extremely dangerous job, most of the time giving them the benefit of the doubt is wise. But that doesn't mean they can't ever make a mistake in the heat of the moment. Was this incident one of those mistakes? The Blaze has more.
Cher: Revolution is the only answer
Why does Cher feel the need to call for a revolution? The last thing America needs is a bunch of Cher fans hitting the streets calling for revolution. Although, that could prove to be pretty entertaining. Check out the one time diva's comments and Glenn's reaction HERE.

At least 12 of those threats have been graded 'serious' meaning that they are at high risk of attacking U.S. Military locations. Glenn reacts on radio today.

Glenn interviewed bestselling author Jonah Goldberg on radio today to talk about his new book. The Tyranny of Clichés attacks the catch phrase-y, sacred cow arguments from the left they've used for decades to shut down debate. Phrases like 'violence never solved anything'. It hasn't? Jonah tears that and more to shreds on radio today.
Who can you trust? Glenn's sick of just pointing out what the mainstream media is getting wrong. The media isn't necessarily the problem - it's the people running the media. Last night on GBTV, Glenn didn't just show how wrong the media was on the Arab Spring, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the revolution in Egypt -- he gave the names of those who got it wrong and who got it right. You need to know who you can trust, and more importantly, who you can't.
