Obama Treats Military Vets To Lunch...Then Leaves Without Paying the Bill

The Blaze | by Erica Ritz | Posted on June 14, 2012 at 6:58pm

10News.comBarack Obama isn't necessarily known for being fiscally responsible, but it seems he may be a bit oblivious when it comes to personal finances as well as national.

ABC explains:

Amid the bustle of President Obama's surprise stop for barbecue Wednesday the White House apparently overlooked one key detail: the bill.

Celebrating Father's Day early, the president had lunch with two service members and two local barbers at Kenny's BBQ on Capitol Hill.

As the group chatted about fatherhood, the president enjoyed a steaming plate of pork ribs with hot sauce, collard greens, red beans and rice and cornbread.

The bill for the president and his four guests was $55.58, but was left unpaid at the point of sale, according to pool reports.

Whoops!

Glenn Beck

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate

Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!

Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

From Russia, with Death

by RALPH PETERS
June 14, 2012

The low point of the American presidency over the past half-century wasn't Watergate, which is almost trivial compared to the corruption of the Obama administration, from treasonous leaks of classified material to the Justice Department's assault on honest elections. No, my fellow Americans, the lowest point of the presidency occurred a few months back when President Obama, caught by a microphone he didn't know was hot, told Russia's then-president, now prime-minister, Dimitry Medvedev to relay to strong-man Vladimir Putin a request for patience. Essentially, Obama said he needed time to fool the American people until the November elections then he could cut the deals that Putin wanted.

When an American president trusts Russia's leaders more than he trusts our country's voters, things in the Oval Office are rotten to a degree far beyond a bunch of clumsy burglars breaking into a campaign office. This is a betrayal that would have been unthinkable even to Bill Clinton.

Now we see the fruits of the poisonous seeds Obama planted yet again: Despite public pleas from Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, Moscow not only won't help stop the slaughter in Syria, but is now supplying the Assad regime with additional attack helicopters-perfect weapons to employ against civilian neighborhoods that have no self-defense capabilities. Unlike our own attack helicopters, which emphasize precision, Russia's helicopters, old and new, are built to maximize destruction.

Moscow backs the Assad regime for several reasons (not least, just to rub our snouts in our cowardice and impotence, thanks to President Obama's dreadful deal-making). Syria is Russia's last major Arab client-state. Syria buys more than three-quarters of its weapons from Russia's ailing arms industry. The Assad regime has provided a naval base at Tartus to Moscow, allowing Russia's rusty fleet to operate in the Mediterranean. And Russia desperately wants to preserve Iran's influence in the Middle East as a counterbalance to America's oil-state allies. So.Russia protects and supports Iran; arms and shields the Assad regime; and gives us the middle finger.

Obama's response? Nothing.

It gets worse. Even in the wake of Russia's latest rigged election and Putin's "victory," brave Russians continue to protest in the streets. And Russia's "Tea Partiers" aren't just having their say on a sunny day on the Mall: Russia's pro-democracy protesters face beatings, arrests, imprisonment, constant harassment, the loss of jobs, eviction, and denied access to education. These are courageous human beings struggling against a cynical regime with the odds stacked terribly against them.

Obama's response? Nothing.

How the Election Is Being Rigged Before You Vote

03312012ObamaIt shouldn't be any surprise, but the presidential election is shaping up as a case study in how to manipulate the democratic process.

The media have played a huge roll, of course, by manipulating Obama's poll numbers, which seem to stay high despite numerous reports of his losing ground among various constituent groups.

Careful selection of the stories to downplay or ignore is also important. The Fast and Furious scandal, the presidential leak scandal, the almost complete ignoring of the Catholic Church's battle with the administration, the proof that President Obama was a dues-paying member of the socialist New Party, the ongoing coverup of Obama's past - the list is long and getting longer every day.

But there are deeper manipulations going on.

MoveOn.org just sent out an email advising all their followers to call Governor Scott, because "We have just 24 hours to make sure Governor Rick Scott stops his all-out assault on Florida's Latino voters." Now, not only will Governor Scott's email inbox be full of MoveOn generated emails, his phone will be ringing off the wall with callers telling him to abandon his efforts and allow Florida's rolls to remain bloated beyond recognition.

The Department of Justice has ORDERED Florida NOT to remove non-citizens from the state's voter rolls. Yes, you read that right - and you can read more sordid details here and here.
Florida's Governor, Secretary of State, and Local Supervisors of Elections are now facing enormous pressure from the Federal government, so it is incredibly important that they hear from citizens across the country, encouraging them to stand strong.

We're asking you to join us, and patriot groups across Florida, as we work together to FLOOD the GOV with emails of support!
Every day this week, please send a short email to Florida's Governor and Secretary of State, in support of Free and Fair elections. When you write - tell personal stories. If you have witnessed voter fraud or seen issues in the polls, write about it. If you believe maintaining accurate voter rolls should be a priority, let them know. Always be cordial and polite - remember the media will be watching.

Because of Florida's "sunshine laws" on transparency, all elected officials' emails are public documents, so the MEDIA monitors these emails. Yes, the same media folk who are busily spinning a false narrative about Florida, demonizing them for daring to uphold election integrity and trying to sway public opinion against the state. These spinsters are closely monitoring the Governor's emails, along with the emails of the Secretary of State and Supervisors of Elections, to guage public response is. Special interests and vote fraud deniers will be out in droves; we need to FLOOD the GOVernment with emails that offset the deluge of email being sent by these groups.

The State of Florida must respond to the Department of Justice by tomorrow. Time is of the essence. If you believe having 180,000 non-citizens on Florida's voter rolls is unacceptable, then take 5 minutes to both email and call Governor Scott and let him know you stand with Florida, in their effort to uphold election integrity.
Our goal is for thousands of emails to reach the inboxes of Governor Scott and Secretary Detzner, supporting Florida and encouraging them to stand strong against the Feds.

Governor Rick Scott's email: DOS.SecretaryofState@DOS.MyFlorida.com
Call him at (850) 488-7146
Secretary of State Ken Detzner's email: secretaryofstate@dos.state.fl.us

Fellow patriots, there is a battle raging over our electoral process and the sanctity of our vote; the victor wins our country. Do not sit on the sidelines. Please email and call Governor Scott now.
FLOOD THE GOVernment
-- send emails every day --
do not remain silent!

If our elections are not truly fair, we are not truly free....

Breakfast with Tom Smith -

GOP Candidate for U.S. Senate

Monday, June 25

Tom Smith's background is a common one in Pennsylvania and across the country, but one that is all too rare in the United States Senate-which may explain a great deal about how our country came to this point in our history.

Tom still lives on the farm in Armstrong County where he grew up. After graduating from Elderton High School in 1965, he postponed college to help his father tend that farm and supplemented his income by driving a school bus. Before too long, Tom had married his high school sweetheart, Saundy, started a family, and went to work in a local surface coal mine.

In 1989, Tom entered the coal business himself, mortgaging everything he had in the hope that he could build a better life for himself and his family. He succeeded, building a series of companies in a highly regulated industry through some tough economic times. When he sold the companies in 2010, they were mining more than a million tons of coal a year and employed over one-hundred people.

Sen. Marco Rubio Live

Dom Giordano welcomes

Senator Marco Rubio (R - FL)

Wednesday, June 20, 2012
7-8:30 PM
Location: National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

"Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up." (Marco Rubio)

marco rubio an american son 150 Sen. Marco Rubio LiveThere are very few politicians that have risen to national prominence as quickly as Marco Rubio. At age forty-one there is huge interest in and speculation about his political future. Will he be tapped by Mitt Romney to be his running mate? Will he run for President in 2016?

His story is detailed in his new book 'An American Son." Rubio is the son of parents who fled Cuba in the 1950's. Using the work ethic and tenacity instilled in him by his parents and grandfather, Rubio earned a law degree. As a young attorney he ran for the West Miami City Commission, a role that led to the Florida House of Representatives. In just six years he rose to Speaker of the House and became a leading advocate for free enterprise, better schools, limited government, and a fairer, simpler tax system. He found that he could connect with people across party lines while still upholding conservative values.

His U.S. Senate campaign started as an extreme long shot againstFlorida's popular incumbent governor, Charlie Crist. Rubio traveled the state with his message of empowerment and optimism. He upset Crist in both the primary and a dramatic three-way general election, after Crist quit the GOP to run as an independent.

Now Rubio speaks on the national stage about the challenges we face and the better future that's possible if we return to our founding principles. As he puts it , "Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up."

In that vision, as in his family's story, Rubio proves that the American Dream is still alive for those who pursue it.

Tickets are $25.00 and include a hard cover copy of his brand new book 'An American Son."

Let's get together and talk about our next steps as we get ready to take out Barack Obama and Bob Casey this Fall! After a very well attended Get Out The Vote training day in Bucks County in early June, we are now ready to put into practice all the tools we learned from FreedomWorks.

We all came together back in 2009 because we were outraged by the election of Barack Obama, the passage of Obamacare and the direction of our country financially and ideologically. The time has come, perhaps our last chance to truly make a stance, for us to unite and work to defeat the progressive agenda which has already infiltrated us so deeply. The first step towards a big win in November starts now! So, we, at The Kitchen Table Patriots, urge you to come out to make a difference, we can plug you in where you are needed.

This is where you can make a difference that really matters!

School Choice is Back

Please call your legislators today

and ask them to vote YES on HB 2468

Jan Murphy, Harrisburg Patriot-News

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

While plans for school vouchers remain mired in the General Assembly, some lawmakers are supporting a new idea to help kids in failing schools. Rep. Jim Christiana, R-Beaver, is introducing a bill that would create a $100 million tax credit program aimed at children in poor-performing schools. The bill to create the new Educational Improvement Scholarship Credit will be introduced today in the House of Representatives. The program would try to build on the state's $75 million Educational Improvement Tax Credit program. That program grants tax credit to companies that donate to preschool and K-12 scholarships to students or to innovative public education programs. Tax credits for this program typically are spoken for in a matter of days after they become available. The new tax credit program would be limited to companies donating to organizations that provide scholarships to students in the state's worst-performing schools. In Christiana's plan as well as the existing EITC program, businesses donating to scholarship organizations could cut their state taxes by up to 90 cents on every dollar donated to education. The goal of Christiana's plan is to generate enough money to provide an escape for 30,000 low- and middle-income students in failing public schools. His plan would provide scholarships of up to $8,500 for a regular education student and up to $15,000 for a special-needs student. "I think it is a very attractive program to those that want to help these kids get out of the violent underperforming schools," Christiana said. Support for a new education tax credit is evolving among House Republican leaders. "I think it's definitely something we should do," said House Majority Whip Stan Saylor, R-York.

Privatization of Liquor Stores

The time has come, once and for all, to give Pennsylvanians the freedom to choose their own wine and spirits -- without the government's monopoly of mediocrity. Government in the booze business has always been a lose business. Let's give our legislators a final push to let them know the time is now to get government out of the booze business! Currently, this issue is stalled in the House of Representatives so your phone calls, emails and faxes can have a positive effect in getting this to a vote before the Legislators leave Harrisburg for the Summer.

Yours in Liberty,
The Kitchen Table Patriots

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Israel Defense Fund

Tonight, Sunday June 3rd, CUFI Founder and Chairman, Pastor John Hagee, will be announcing an exciting new CUFI initiative.  You can click here to watch it live at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific). This link will not be live until 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific) tonight.

Tonight, Pastor Hagee will be announcing the creation of the Israel Defense Fund.  This emergency fund will enable CUFI to meet the major challenges we anticipate in the coming months.

CUFI has accomplished great things for Israel.  But the times in which we live demand that we do even more -- and do so now!

We need to do more to defend Israel in the public square and in the media.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to purchase more pro-Israel billboards across America as well as full-page newspaper ads as circumstances demand.

We need to do more to defend Israel on our college campuses.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to train even more students and hold even more pro-Israel events on campuses across the country.

We need to do more to defend Israel before our leaders.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to  be more active than ever in educating our nation's leaders about the justice of Israel's cause.

Even if you can't watch the broadcast, don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of the Israel Defense Fund! Click here now to contribute

We will not be silent.  Together, we will do more than ever to stand up and speak up for Israel.

May God Bless You and Those that You Love,

David Brog

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

The American Spirit

Many Americans proudly hang the Stars and Stripes on June 14 to celebrate Flag Day. On that day in 1777, the Second Continental Congress formally adopted the emblem under which generations of Americans have lived, fought and died. More than any other flag in the world, it symbolizes freedom and celebrates the optimism of our Founding Fathers.

Yet today we have voices suggesting that America's best days are behind her. The experiment, they insist, is over.

"The American dream is a myth," writes Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel laureate in economics, in a recent op-ed. A new USA Today/Gallup poll shows that nearly six in 10 think that the next generation won't live better than their parents do today.

Such pessimism, however, is unwarranted. More importantly, it's counter-productive. Even if things were as bad as some people suggest, there is a solution, as Ed Feulner, president of The Heritage Foundation reminds us in his weekly column:

Negative thoughts like this are nothing new. It stands to reason that tough economic times will breed pessimism. Sometimes, though, we need to remind ourselves of the principles this country was founded on, and reconnect with the genius that created the United States of America, the only country founded not on identity, but on ideas.

Feulner, in fact, has just written a book designed to do just that. Co-authored with Heritage trustee Brian Tracy, "The American Spirit: Celebrating the Virtues and Values That Make Us Greatis a wake-up call for those who may find themselves discouraged by the challenges we face as a nation at this critical moment in history.

Why would such a book be necessary? As Brian explains in the introduction: "Today, millions of Americans are not clear about why the United States is the greatest country on earth and in all human history." They know they're free. But they may have never reflected on why their nation is unique -- not only in the world right now, but in human history.

As Feulner writes:

"Consider the phrase 'the American Dream.' The words themselves reveal something extraordinary. In all the history of man, there has been only one country with the word 'dream' attached to it. There is no French Dream or Russian Dream or Chinese Dream. There is only the American Dream, to which people worldwide aspire and have aspired since our founding. From 194 countries, people have come to America to pursue this dream.

"In America, people care very much who you are. They care little about your background. In America, you can start from anywhere, with or without benefits and advantages from your family, and make your own way and your own life. At any time, you can decide to change and do something completely different. Your life is yours to chart.

"In my opinion, this freedom to define your own destiny ultimately derives from the Judeo-Christian tradition. God created us in His own image, and just as God is free, so we are meant for freedom."

The question, then, is what the relationship of government should be to man. Is man there to serve the government? No. In America, it is very much the other way around -- despite the many attempts by liberals to change that relationship throughout our history.

Feulner continues:

"Government's purpose is not to impose some elite-inspired vision of the good society on the rest of us, but to empower men and women to use their God-given freedom as they choose.

"This opportunity has its roots in our extraordinary founding in 1776. Having such freedom is more the exception than the rule throughout much of human history. The republican form of government had mostly been consigned to the history books since the fall of Rome. Monarchies had ruled the leading powers of the world for centuries.

"By choosing a republic, where the governed control the government -- not the other way around -- the Founding Fathers displayed faith in the individual's ability to know better than any elected or appointed official what is best for himself and his family. That's why they created a Constitution that protects our God-given rights from government. The government does not grant those rights to us as citizens."

It's all too easy, in the face of so many difficult problems, to throw up our hands in despair. One look at our flag, however, watered by the blood and sweat of patriots for more than 200 years, ought to cure that temptation. As Feulner's book reminds us, the American Spirit is alive and well, provided we're willing to believe in it and do our part to nurture our irreplaceable birthright of freedom.

Fatherhood: The Foundation of Liberty

Fathering Requires Real Men Who Support Their Families

"The foundation of national morality must be laid in private families... In vain are Schools, Academies, and Universities instituted, if loose principles and licentious habits are impressed upon children in their earliest years... The vices and examples of the parents cannot be concealed from the children. How is it possible that children can have any just sense of the Sacred Obligations of Morality or Religion if, from their earliest Infancy, they learn their mothers live in habitual infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant infidelity to their mothers?" --John Adams 1778

When I think "father," the word first invokes my relationship with the person who irrevocably shaped my own life. My Dad was always there for my siblings and me, and he was always a devoted husband to my Mom. He was and remains a real man, a man's man in every sense of the word.

Yeah, he was also a type "A" fighter pilot -- and of the most aggressive breed, a Naval Aviator. Being as I inherited that "A" gene, it's remarkable that Dad has survived into his 90th year, given all the head-butting KOs we traded when I was a teenager. Fact is, I left home when I was 14 because our town was not big enough for the two of us -- and he was not leaving.

When recalling my early trials with my father, I'm reminded of a great quote attributed to Mark Twain: "When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years."

Like Twain, it took me a few years to figure out that my old man was a good father and a good mentor to boot. Today, I'm so grateful for the steadfast example he set, and the love we share for each other.

"Father" next evokes my relationship with my heavenly Father, my Creator. That relationship has also experienced great trials, but He has stood by me through all my trials and tribulations.

Of course, "father" also evokes thoughts about my relationship with our children, and that is precious beyond words -- a greater gift I could not imagine. Thank goodness I haven't repeated some of the mistakes my old man made with me, but I've certainly created some "new and improved" mistakes with my kids. I hope in due time they can summon the grace and grant the forgiveness that I've asked for those errors.

Finally, the word "father" evokes the heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers and our Founding Fathers.

These four contexts for "father" -- God the Father, my own earthly father, my role as father to my children, and the legacy of our forefathers -- combine to create a rich and abiding sense of what fatherhood means, what it should look and feel like in heart and practice.

But for tens of millions of Americans from broken homes, the consequences of failed fatherhood are the enormous obstacles their children must endeavor to overcome in relationships with their Creator, with their own spouses and children, and in their ability to honor their forefathers' legacy.

Understanding the critical role fathers play in the welfare of the family as the fundamental building block of society has been understood throughout the history of man. In 295 B.C., Mencius wrote, "The root of the kingdom is in the state. The root of the state is in the family. The root of the family is in the person of its head."

The Father Factor, the statistical social and cultural consequences when fathers abandon their natural role, is well documented.

Nowhere are those consequences more evident than when fatherless children, in their relentless pursuit of approval never provided by their own father, become overachievers and ascend to positions of power. The pages of 20th-century history are rife with the terrible misdeeds of those who were raised without fathers, or with abusive or ineffectual fathers: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden and many others of lesser infamy.

Among those who have ascended from broken homes to positions of political power in our own nation, there is a distinctive Pathology of the Left associated with their insatiable quest for approval and power, and their resulting advocacy for a platform of socialist statism upon which to build their throne. The most notable examples in recent history are Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Ted Kennedy and, of course, Barack Hussein Obama, who is a textbook case study of narcissism. The political, social, cultural and economic damage that these men have done in their warped search for power is considerable.

There isn't much we can do for those whose sense of self has been irrevocably imprinted by the lack of a functional father, but there is plenty we can do to ensure the next generation is burdened with fewer of them.

If Essential Liberty is ever to be restored, then the place to start is within our families, and most particularly with fathers.

Our Founding Fathers understood that the Republic depends upon the proper establishment and conduct of the family. James Wilson wrote, "[T]hat important and respectable, though small and sometimes neglected establishment, which is denominated a family ... it is that seminary, on which the commonwealth ... must ultimately depend. ... It is the duty of parents to maintain their children decently, and according to their circumstances; to protect them according to the dictates of prudence; and to educate them according to the suggestions of a judicious and zealous regard for their usefulness, their respectability and happiness."

That duty begins with fathers.

Effective fathering requires real men, and there are plenty of them out there. But sometimes even the most well-intentioned fathers need some help. For that reason, I want to share with you, our Patriot readers, one of the best resources available for dads.

Tony Dungy, the former professional football player who coached the Indianapolis Colts to their 2007 Super Bowl victory, has devoted much of his post-football years to coaching fathers.

Tony Dungy

"In football," Dungy says, "you win with fundamentals. In fatherhood, it's the same way. An NFL player becomes an All-Pro by relentlessly focusing on the fundamentals and executing them with sheer determination. The same is true to become an All Pro Dad."

Dungy backs the All Pro Dad fatherhood mentoring organization headed by Mark Merrill. They produce an outstanding resource, a daily e-mail for Dads called the "Play of the Day." If you're a father of young children, I highly recommend you click here for this great resource, and spread the word to other fathers. It's a quick read, and I guarantee fathers will find something in every edition that will improve their relationships with their children.

Just today, All Pro Dad offered "Ten Things You Should Ask From Your Kids For Father's Day."

Patriot fathers, if you want to extend the Legacy of Liberty to the next generation, start in your own home.

On this Father's Day, let us pay tribute to the irreplaceable and inseparable institutions of marriage and fatherhood -- and the importance of a father's love, discipline, provision and protection for his family. Every day of the year, let those of us who are fathers encourage other fathers to be accountable for their marriages and children. Let us seek to mentor the fatherless by volunteering leadership through our places of worship, youth groups, scouting, coaching, tutoring, or working through inner-city ministries with high-risk kids, to name just a few.

Above all, the greatest inheritance I hope to leave my children is not material, but spiritual. "I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth." (3 John 1:4)

In the words of the Father of our Nation, George Washington, "May the father of all mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths, and make us in all our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy." (1790)

On behalf of your Patriot Staff, I wish you a rewarding and reflective Father's Day.

Victory Center" on Facebook

-Gabriel Malor

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

1. From Gov. Bobby Jindal: Liberal and Incompetent

A few weeks back I found myself at the scene of the crime... campaigning in Wisconsin with Governor Walker. One thing was abundantly clear, and if you spent any time helping out Governor Walker in his campaign, you can attest to this - The radical left has taken over the Democrat Party.

Last Tuesday in Wisconsin, the silent majority was very loud. Call it the Cheesehead Rebellion. I suppose you could say that the people have spoken, but the truth is they spoke a year and half ago and this entire recall election was nothing more than a case of sour grapes from the radical left that has taken over the once proud Democrat Party. Let's remember what happened here. The hard left launched this recall because Scott Walker had the audacity to act in the best interests of the people of Wisconsin.

2. Obama Skips Out On Bill at Lunch

3. Senate Confirms Radical Aponte as Ambassador to El Salvador

It's another day in the Senate, and another radical Obama nominee is confirmed.

Last August, flustered by Jim DeMint's Senate hold, Obama used a recess appointment to name Maria del Carmen Aponte ambassador to El Salvador. She was originally selected as ambassador to the Domincan Republic during the Clinton administration, but she withdrew her name after refusing to take a polygraph test concerning her relationship with Cuban spy, Roberto Tamayo. Nonetheless, radical rejects of the Clinton administration are the very people whom Obama loves to recycle.

4. Unions Intend to Strong-Arm American Airlines

With the events of Wisconsin still fresh in our minds, and the cost of public sector unions at the center of state budget debates, it's easy to overlook how devastating big labor can be on the American worker as well as the companies that employ them.

For an example, look no further than American Airlines (AA). AA remained a profitable company in an industry full of bankruptcies for decades, finally succumbing to the increasingly unsustainable union costs and being forced into bankruptcy in 2011. The situation is eerily similar to the auto industry woes as the bill came in on cushy pensions & mandatory wage increases in 2008.

5. Sugarcoating the Cost of Special Interest Subsidies with Food Stamps

Here's a novel idea: let's stop subsidizing Big Sugar. Maybe if the government wouldn't intervene in the agriculture sector, inducing sharp increases in the price of commodities, many of the 46 million people on food stamps would be able to afford food.

Then again, why would liberal politicians abrogate their source of political power? They stand to benefit from subsidizing rich sugar farmers and keeping 15% of the country dependent upon the government for food. The calculus of socialism dictates that a permanent dependency constituency + special interest money = perennial power.

Obama's Classified Leaks Are Probably Not Prosecutable   Jun 14, 2012 11:16 am

In my post over the weekend about the folly of pushing for a special prosecutor on the Obama administration's intelligence leaks to the New York Times, I argued that holding the president politically accountable is far more important than indicting the leakers; therefore, Congress should do its job and shine intense light on this scandal rather than abdicate to a criminal investigation - ultimately supervised by Obama and his attorney general - which would simply bury it. Among the points I made was that the criminal case is probably a loser anyway:

One of the ways to cut the big-spending binge engaged in by the federal government is to terminate the racket of college loans. It's counterproductive, discriminatory, and a bad investment for both taxpayers and students.

College-loan debt has soared to nearly a trillion dollars, more than credit-card debt or auto-loan debt. Financial commentators are beginning to compare college-loan debt to the housing bubble that nearly brought down the banking system in 2008.

Japan's corporate tax rate reduction on April 1, 2012 left America with the highest corporate income tax rate in the industrialized world.[1] Effective taxes are also high by international standards.[2] Because state corporate income taxes are levied in addition to this high federal tax, state tax systems are not competitive internationally even if the state system by itself is reasonable. Every state corporate income tax, when combined with the federal corporate income tax, is higher than France, Germany, the UK, and other countries.[3]

Trend #4: Sales Tax Increases   Jun 13, 2012 10:27 am

State sales taxes went up in the past few years, continuing a long-term trend. First adopted in the 1930s during the Great Depression as property tax collections plummeted, sales taxes have seen their base erode over time. Except in a few states, sales taxes generally apply to goods and not services, and often exclude even a significant number of goods (groceries, clothing, medicine, gasoline, sales tax holidays, etc.). So while the tax is important to states because they raise about a third of their revenue from it, Professor John Mikesell has found that sales tax base breadth has declined from 55 percent of personal income in 1970 to just 35 percent today. [1]

The Elite Are Attempting To Convince Us That Killing Off Our Sick Grandparents Is Cool And Trendy   Jun 13, 2012 09:19 am

What should be done with elderly Americans when they become very seriously ill?  Should we try to save their lives or should we just let them die?  Unfortunately, there is a growing consensus among the "intellectual elite" that most elderly people are not going to have a high enough "quality of life" to justify the expense of costly life saving procedures.  This philosophy is now being promoted very heavily through mainstream news outlets, in our television shows and in big Hollywood movies.  The elite are attempting to convince us that killing off our sick grandparents is cool and trendy.

But what if one of them got injured if the owner did NOT institute the safety policy? They would sue the owner!

A few years ago Muslim organizations in the UK protested a policy that required surgical staff to thoroughly sterilize up to their elbows. They protested because they said it required Muslim women to expose their arms.

The policy was rescinded. Accommodating unreasonable Muslim demands trumped sound public health policies, putting patients at risk.

Now these Minnesota Muslim employees are demanding that the business owner be put in an impossible situation-rescind the safety requirement and risk being sued if someone is injured, or keep the requirement and get slapped with a discrimination lawsuit.

  LE CENTER, Minn. (KMSP) -

http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/story/18716382/2012/06/06/burqa-ban-prompts-somali-walk-out-from-minn-business

More than 30 Somali employees walked out in protest of dress code changes at a privately-owned business in Le Center, Minn.

The former employees of Dianne's Fine Desserts claim a new uniform policy was instituted to force them off the job because of their Islamic beliefs.

The owner of the bakery, Mike Knowles, told the Faribault Daily News a woman's long dress recently got caught in a boot washer and the new guidelines were instated over safety concerns.

Knowles, who bought the business just 11 days before the accident, said the company leaders went out of their way to try to work with the Somali Community. Originally, they had recommended knee-high skirts but later agreed to boot-high or mid-calf skirts before making the policy public at a meeting on Friday.

On Monday, many devout women reported back to work in their full-length attire, saying the new dress code conflicts with their religious beliefs. They were then given the option adjust their skirt lengths or leave.

Eleven women walked out and were joined by about 20 Somali men.

The workers have asked the Council on American-Islamic Relations to intercede, and CAIR has previously helped 25 Muslim employees who were terminated in December 2010.

At the time, the business was called Dianne's Gourmet Desserts and was under a different owner who fired the employees after the break schedule was altered into conflict with employees' prayer schedule, but employees prayed anyway. A complaint was forwarded to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the workers were reinstated.

The walk-off has also been brought to the attention of the American Civil Liberties Union.

YOU DID IT! Venue Cancels Radical Islamic Conference

On Thursday, June 7, we sent out a special e-mail alert asking you to contact The Meadows Club of Rolling Meadows, Illinois about their hosting of a conference by the jihadist group named Hizb ut-Tahrir (HUT). The venue was flooded by emails and phone calls, and it didn't take long before they decided to cancel the event. A few days later Hizb ut-Tahrir's website announced that they had found another venue that would remain secret until closer to the conference date, which is this Sunday, June 17. Stay alert and stay tuned! We can do this again!

The Last Days of Jews in the Islamicized Europe

Posted by Giulio Meotti on Jun 12th, 2012

A few days ago, security guards were patrolling the streets near Rome's Jewish school with metal detectors, searching for possible explosive devices. Rome's largest synagogue, one of the oldest in the world, today looks like a military outpost, with private guards and policemen at every corner. The Jewish school is also a "sterilized area," protected by bodyguards and cameras, the windows plumbed with iron grates. I saw the same in the Jewish homes of Hebron and in the schools of Sderot, the Israeli city bombed by Hamas.

The March attack at a Jewish school in Toulouse, which resembled that of Itamar (when an Israeli father, mother and three children were slaughtered in their beds by a Palestinian commando), triggered "an explosion" of anti-Semitic attacks across France. According with the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive, more than 90 anti-Semitic incidents took place in France only in the 10 days that followed the shooting, which left four people dead. In total, 148 anti-Semitic incidents were recorded in March and April. It's an anti-Semithic pandemonium totally silenced by the European media.

Anti-Semitism raises again its head in estern Europe. During the Holocaust, Europe dispatched its Jews to the gas chambers. Seventy years later, in the welfarist, multicultural and semi-Islamicized Europe, Jews have again come under attack. Enclaves of ultra-Orthodox Jews will likely survive in the main cities, but Jewish life as such has no future in Europe.

Everything's Coming Up Jihad
June has been a banner month for Muslim lawsuits against the NYPD. First "Muslim Advocates" filed a lawsuit against the NYPD on behalf of some New Jersey Muslims attending mosques that the NYPD had assessed as a potential terrorism risk. The "Muslim Advocates", like every other Muslim "civil rights" group, has a history of covering up and defending terrorism.

The media is full of sympathetic interviews with Muslims, who are baffled as to why the NYPD might be surveiling mosques and Imams. Farhoud Khera, the head of Muslim Advocates, complains, "There was explicit reference to the fact that they weren't targeting Syrian Jews or Iranian Jews or Egyptian Christians, but really, the focus was on Muslims."

The extensive Coptic Christian and Persian Jewish terrorism sprees aside, the goal here is to get the NYPD to play the same "Three Blind Monkeys" game that Federal law enforcement has taken up. And the only answer is the TSAization of the NYPD, as the last remaining counterterrorism force will prove that it isn't singling out Muslims, by surveiling Methodist churches and Chassidic synagogues for signs of terrorist sympathies.

Less notable, but in some ways more significant, Farhan Doe, a Muslim rejected by the NYPD because he said gays should be imprisoned, has sued the police for rejecting him because of his views. Farhan Doe isn't alone in believing that, but unlike non-Muslim applicants, he comes out of a cultural and religious background in which imprisoning people because they offend your morals is the duty of law enforcement.

Farhan's, (predictably, Jewish), lawyer says that his client has the right to believe whatever he pleases, and he has a point. But the question is with enough Farhans in the political, judicial and enforcement arms, how long will the rest of us have that right?

Tolerating people who will not tolerate you is fine, so long as they draw the line between ideas and action. The NYPD isn't surveilling New Jersey mosques because there are some bigots in blue who dislike immigrants, as the Associated Press, the American Civil Liberties Union and the whole lawyer-media complex would like you to believe. It's doing it because New York City's biggest serial killers and aspiring serial killers are Muslims who kill in the name of their ideas.

Their biggest idea is that Allah had sent Mohammed to make Islam "victorious over all religions, even though the infidels may resist." (Koran 61:9) And when the infidels resist, that's when you kill their soldiers, sue their police officers, and blow up a few buildings. Then you complain to the media that the infidels are persecuting you by spying on the mosques where the "Big Idea" is declaimed to the faithful and refusing to allow you to join the police force just because you think that Islamic law supersedes American law.

Spending Off the Hook: Free Phones Costing Taxpayers $2.1 Billion Per Year

by John Sexton

You're probably familiar with the food stamp program which grew from $35 billion in 2008 to $75 billion last year. But did you know that getting food stamps also makes you eligible for a free government cell phone?

A program called Lifeline provides free phones and free monthly minutes to anyone on food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, Head Start, and several other government programs. And just like food stamps, Lifeline (aka "phone stamps") has been growing by leaps and bounds since 2008, at significant cost to taxpayers.

DOJ whistle blowers provide Speaker Boehner with courage to charge Eric Holder

Jun 14, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

Just days ago, House Speaker John Boehner shocked the conservative world by at last granting his long awaited approval for next week's contempt of congress vote against Attorney General Eric Holder. But it wasn't the thought of doing what's right for the family of Brian Terry, Jaime Zapata or others killed in the Regime's Fast and Furious scheme that prompted the Speaker's decision.  After all, Mr. Boehner is hardly one to risk a loss of political advantage-or more importantly, anger the national media-just because a few hundred people have been killed by his Democrat friends.

No, the very cautious Congressman Boehner and other Republican leaders at last chose to take a stand because of reports that "...at least one and perhaps two sources within the Justice Department...have approached the Issa committee seeking whistle blower status." (1)

For weeks it has been suggested that House and Senate committee's investigating Eric Holder's participation ... Continue Reading:DOJ whistle blowers provide Speaker Boehner with courage to charge Eric Holder

American Minute June 13

Jun 13, 2012 06:13 pm | Coach Collins

19-year-old Marquis de Lafayette purchased a ship and sailed to America, arriving JUNE 13, 1777.
Trained in the French Military, he was appointed a major general.
Lafayette endured the freezing winter at Valley Forge, and fought at Brandywine, Barren Hill and Monmouth.
Lafayette led troops against the traitor Benedict Arnold and commanded at Yorktown, pressuring Cornwallis to surrender.
On May 10, 1786, George Washington wrote from Mount Vernon to Marquis de Lafayette:
"Your late purchase of an estate in the colony of Cayenne, with a view of emancipating the slaves on it, is a generous and noble proof of your humanity.
Would to God a like spirit would diffuse itself generally into the minds of the people of this country."
On August 15, 1787, in a letter from Philadelphia to the Marquis de Lafayette, George Washington wrote:

KGB Propaganda now in on presidential race

By Judi McLeod Thursday, June 14, 2012

In the 1950s, school children were taught how to crouch under their desks during air raid drills. The Lib-Left of the day ridiculed the drills as Cold War paranoia.

Who knew back then that celebrities would pre-fund $3.5 million for a soft landing to the Gorbachev Foundation for a move into a new, white shingled bay-front house at the historic Presidio overlooking San Francisco's Golden Bridge? From his scenic, paid-for digs former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev began systematically dismantling America's military bases.

Who knew during the Cold War that one far off day, a pro-Russia, anti-American president would be caught on camera mic boasting to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would soon have the 'flexibility' to make a deal on ballistic missile defenses in Europe, while boasting of an already assured reelection victory?

Jun 14, 2012 01:10 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) - According to a growing chorus of once-confident Democrats, President Barack Obama could lose the November election. The hand-wringing reflects real worries among Democrats about Obama's ability to beat Republican rival Mitt Romney, who has so far proven to be a stronger candidate than many expected. But it's also a political strategy aimed [...]

America: Don't Look Now, But . . .

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 01:34 PM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

It's Europe that has the big financial worry, right?  The good ol' U S of A is relatively safe for the moment, right?  Guess again.  It's later than you think.

Two recent reports on the subject make for grim reading.  The first, The Untold Story of America's Debt (PDF link), is just out from Deloitte University (a research arm of Deloitte & Touche accountancy) says our debt crisis is bigger than we think, and that solving the problem is much harder than we think.  Current projections, scary enough in their own right, depend on favorable assumptions (like cuts to Medicare) that are not realistic at the moment.  From the conclusion: "Solutions that focus solely on cutting spending, raising taxes, or improving GDP growth are unlikely to slow the rising U.S. debt."  (By the way, one of the co-authors of the report is William D. Eggers, who is an old friend of mine from his days at the Reason Foundation.  You may be more familiar with his brother, Dave Eggers.  Fitting: Any serious plan to cut our debt might justly be called A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Difficulty.)

The second report, USA, Inc.: A Basic Summary of America's Financial Statements (PDF link), is actually more than a year old but I missed it somehow, and it fits well with the Deloitte report.  USA, Inc. comes from venture capitalist Mary Meeker of Kleiner, Perkins out in Silicon Valley, and is an examination of the United States government as if it were a private company.  It is unfortunately written dry prose; why don't they just come out and say that any private company with this record would have its entire management fired if not jailed, and the company forced into bankruptcy restructuring.  But there is no getting around the problem:

By the standards of any public corporation, USA Inc.'s financials are discouraging.  True, USA Inc. has many fundamental strengths. On an operating basis (excluding Medicare and Medicaid spending and one-time charges), the federal government's profit & loss statement is solid, with a 4% median net margin over the last 15 years. But cash flow is deep in the red (by almost $1.3 trillion last year, or -$11,000 per household), and USA Inc.'s net worth is negative and deteriorating.

The report takes a turn for the better in the middle:

Take a step back, and imagine what the founding fathers would think if they saw how our country's finances have changed. From 1790 to 1930, government spending on average accounted for just 3% of American GDP. Today, government spending absorbs closer to 24% of GDP.

It's likely that they would be even more surprised by the debt we have taken on to pay for this expansion. As a percentage of GDP, the federal government's public debt has doubled over the last 30 years, to 53% of GDP. This figure does not include claims on future resources from underfunded entitlements and potential liabilities from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs). If it did include these claims, gross federal debt accounted for 94% of GDP in 2010. The public debt to GDP ratio is likely to triple to 146% over the next 20 years, per CBO. The main reason is entitlement expense. Since 1970, these costs have grown 5.5 times faster than GDP, while revenues have lagged, especially corporate tax revenues. By 2037, cumulative deficits from Social Security could add another $11.6 trillion to the public debt.

The problem gets worse. Even as USA Inc.'s debt has been rising for decades, plunging interest rates have kept the cost of supporting it relatively steady. Last year's interest bill would have been 155% (or $290 billion) higher if rates had been at their 30-year average of 6% (vs. 2% in 2010). As debt levels rise and interest rates normalize, net interest payments could grow 20% or more annually. Below-average debt maturities in recent years have also kept the Treasury's borrowing costs down, but this trend, too, will drive up interest payments once interest rates rise.

Sheeh.  I think I'll cheer myself up by going back to reading about the Eurozone crisis.

UPDATE: My hit time has been pushed back to 7:50 Eastern.

No, Mr. Obama, We Aren't "Doing Fine"

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 08:47 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

Later today, President Obama will try to "re-frame" the campaign debate over the economy in a speech in Ohio. Good luck with that: the economy is lousy, everyone knows it, and Obama has been in charge of the executive branch for the last 3 1/2 years. His problem isn't "framing," his problem is that his policies have failed. Dismally.

Obama will also have to try to get out from under one of his most revealing moments so far, when he explained that "the private sector is doing fine" and made the case for shifting even more resources from the private sector to government. Far from being a gaffe, this was a capsule version of Obama's deeply-held political philosophy.

The Romney campaign released its second video on Obama's pronouncement today. It is simple and good:

The untweetability of Obama's campaign message

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 08:03 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

Perhaps the most telling of President Obama's growing body of moans is his complaint that "you can pretty much put [the Romney] campaign on a tweet and have some characters to spare." Obama is right. Romney's message boils down to this statement, the usual theme of a successful anti-incumbent presidential campaign: "Look at the economy; this is a failed presidency."

It's not quite as abbreviated as "hope and change," but it has the virtue of being a proposition, not a content-free slogan. It also has the virtue of being true.

Obama knows that the briefer the message, the better. The more explaining a candidate has to do, the worse his situation. "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" would fit in a tweet, with characters to spare. But this message, the usual theme of a successful presidential re-election campaign, is unavailable to this president.

Glibness is Obama's most impressive trait, and it has carried him far. But even Obama must question whether he can talk his way around this economy.

One thing is for sure - he can't do it in a tweet. And this must be driving him crazy.

Bark For Obama! (Seriously.)

Posted: 14 Jun 2012 07:48 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

You have to give Anna Wintour credit: undeterred by public hilarity over her video invitation to My Dinner With Barack, she is plunging ahead, organizing the fashion industry to support Obama's re-election. Tuesday night in Chicago, she co-sponsored a campaign event called Runway To Win. It was, as you would expect, a glitzy affair:

The highlight of the evening was the announcement that Marc Jacobs has created a new line of pet gear called-I'm not making this up-"Bark For Obama." Here Ms. Wintour is holding a stuffed animal that is wearing "Bark" apparel:

Fashionista reports:

Like any good public speaker, Wintour (a budding comedian) began her speech with a funny little anecdote about the time she was asked to meet with Ambassador Matthew Barzun to discuss, she assumed, her Obama fundraising efforts in New York or her "views on Europe" (and perhaps to ask for advice on how she might become an ambassador herself?). So, she showed up to lunch with a "big file" of research, only be asked about the possibility of a designer collection for pets.

"I then went back to New York and persuaded Marc Jacobs to do Bark for Obama," she says while holding up some sort of stuffed dog wearing a Bark for Obama t-shirt. She also got Thakoon to do a leash and collar. This begs the question-will Wintour ever be taken seriously for something other than her ability wrangle designers and get them to do things? Because she should be.
...
After encouraging the audience to buy some designer pet gear, Wintour moves into her stump speech, in which, perhaps as a response to her detractors, she points out the fashion industry's significance in our economy:

The enormous interest of the public in this challenge is indicative to me of just how much fashion means to so many people from all walks of life. It's also a global business that's worth $20 billion to the economy and one that employs 4 million people. We are enormously lucky to have a president and first lady who are so supportive of our industry.

Those numbers don't add up, but they do raise an obvious question: isn't Wintour's magazine, Vogue, read more or less exclusively by the dreaded 1%? And who, other than the 1%, could possibly afford to buy the fashions that are the magazine's subject? As silly a concept as Occupy Wall Street might be, Occupy the Fashion District is even sillier.

UPDATE: Here is another photo of a small (naturally) dog wearing a "Bark For Obama" sweater:

It occurs to me that a "Bark For Obama" sweater is not without utility: it can keep your dog warm if you need to put him on the roof of your car.

A Further Perspective

It's About Reality, Not Austerity

By J.T. Young

A state cannot run an economy and a state-run economy cannot sustain its state.

Today's European debate isn't about governmental austerity, it's about governmental reality. Ultimately, the argument is not whether governments can keep trying to stimulate their economies, but when their creditors will quit financing it. Somehow, Europe's governments, teetering on tilting economies, have missed this point; we can only hope that Washington hasn't.

We are witnessing a prolonged domino-effect among the world's economically intrusive states. It began over two decades ago with the fall of the USSR and communism across Eastern Europe. Now the dominoes are falling into Western Europe -- Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, all are threatened with economic collapse.

By now, the obvious should be axiom: A state cannot run an economy and a state-run economy cannot sustain its state. The more of its economy a government consumes, the less productive its economy becomes. And the more dependent its subpar economy then becomes on its government.

Dueling Ohio Speeches

Here's a coincidence. Barack Obama delivered a speech on the economy in Cleveland, Ohio, this afternoon. At virtually the exact same time, Mitt Romney spoke in Cincinnati, Ohio. As it is in every election, Ohio will be a key battleground state.

It's a good thing that both candidates were discussing the economy today, because the economic news continues to be discouraging.

Jobless claims rose again this week to 386,000. The four-week average, which is a more stable gauge, is also up to 382,000 -- the highest level in six weeks. The Associated Press reports that retail sales again fell 0.2 percent last month, "matching April's decline." According to the AP, that marked the first back-to-back drop in two years.

Reuters reports that foreclosures are up for the first time in 27 months. The good news, if you can call it that, is that this doesn't appear to be the result of a new round of delinquencies. Instead, banks are finally unloading homes they have been holding on to while they negotiated the mortgage abuse settlement with the federal government and various states. With the details ironed out, the banks are now putting these homes on the market.

Unfortunately, that's still bad news for the housing market. As Reuters notes, "By moving houses out of the so-called 'shadow inventory' and onto the market, the increase in foreclosures could be a drag on the fragile U.S. housing recovery."

Also this week, the Congressional Budget Office predicted that this year's annual deficit would likely be $1.17 trillion. That's another historic first for Barack Obama -- four straight years of record trillion-dollar plus deficits. Who seriously thinks we can afford four more years of Obama's spending?

And these latest reports come on the heels of the Fed's bombshell that family net worth has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years due largely to the collapse of home values, as well as losses in the stock market and in retirement accounts. Meanwhile, the economic crisis in Europe continues to spiral out of control with no resolution in sight, while the United States marches ever closer to the expiration of the Bush tax cuts at the end of this year.

Whoever wins in November faces an extraordinarily difficult time in the years ahead. But it's clear from the past three years that Obama is not up to the task. America needs real change in Washington, starting with new leadership in the White House and the Senate!

Is Obama Losing Wisconsin Too?

After we had already "gone to press" with yesterday's report, pollster Scott Rasmussen released a new survey of Wisconsin voters taken after last week's failed recall attempt of Gov. Scott Walker. In his poll, Badger State voters back Mitt Romney over Barack Obama 47% to 44%. And in the state's open Senate race, Republicans appear well-positioned to pick up the seat of retiring Democrat Herb Kohl.

Again, it is important not to read too much into polls this far out. While I don't think Obama can take the state for granted, the fact remains that it hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan's 1984 landslide.

Here's some more encouraging news. According to NationalJournal, Democrat pollster Peter Hart conducted a focus group of 12 Colorado voters this week. Ten people in the focus group voted for Obama in 2008. But only three told Hart they would vote for Obama again. When pressed, the group split five for Romney, three for Obama and four were undecided. One 27-year-old health care consultant who voted for Obama in 2008 said he felt "duped" and "lied to."

But brace yourself, my friends. As I have repeatedly warned this is going to be a brutal and ugly campaign. Here is the article's conclusion:

"The bottom line: The reactions from the focus group explain why Obama is going hard-negative against Romney -- it may be the campaign's only way to win. Most of the participants sounded dissatisfied with president and were ready to make a change, but didn't know much about the challenger, either."

Obama Doing Damage Control With Jewish Voters

With polls showing Obama's support falling among Jewish voters, several articles have reported that Obama has stepped up his outreach to the Jewish community. Yesterday, Obama awarded the Medal of Freedom to Israeli President Shimon Peres. Last week he met with Orthodox Jewish leaders at the White House and tried to reassure them he is committed to our alliance with Israel.

While attendees described the meeting as friendly, it was clear that Obama still doesn't get it. He reportedly defended his demand that Israel stop building homes for Jews in Jerusalem. He also complained that Israel's government was "extreme right," and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "wanted to act without restraints."

For the record, Netanyahu is Israel's democratically elected leader. But his government can hardly be described as "extreme right," unless the person describing it is extreme left.

Netanyahu's Defense Minister is the former Labor Party leader Ehud Barak. Shaul Mofaz is the Vice Prime Minister and chairman of the Kadima Party. And exactly how much "restraint" should Israel demonstrate when it comes to dealing the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who have all vowed to "wipe Israel off the map"?

Is America Ready For The Obama Boy?

In 2008, Obama benefitted from being the hip candidate. He had rock star appeal. He was the modern JFK. "Sexy" was often used to describe him. And one of the "sexy" images of the 2008 campaign was the "Obama girl," Amber Lee Ettinger, who appeared in the viral video of the song, "I Got A Crush On Obama."

But that was four years ago. Ms. Ettinger now says she is undecided on how she will vote in November. But keeping up with the times, we now have the "Obama Boy," who also has a crush on Obama, his "rainbow colored knight." And, not surprisingly, NBC News deemed the "Obama Boy" to be more newsworthy than the Fast and Furious scandal.

New Research on Children of Same-Sex Parents Suggests Differences Matter
by Jennifer Marshall and Christine Kim

Two peer-reviewed articles published Sunday in a scholarly journal cast doubt on a core assumption used to advance same-sex marriage.

A number of studies and articles have suggested that research shows no difference in outcomes between children whose parents have same-sex relationships and their peers raised by heterosexual parents. For example, the American Psychological Association (APA) stated in 2005 that "Not a single study has found children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents."

Yesterday the academic journal Social Science Research published a detailed methodological review of the research on which the APA bases its conclusion-a study that questions the validity of the "no difference" assertion. Conducted by a Louisiana State University family scholar, the article concludes:

"[N]ot one of the 59 studies referenced in the 2005 APA Brief compares a large, random, representative sample of lesbian or gay parents and their children with a large, random, representative sample of married parents and their children. The available data, which are drawn primarily from small convenience samples, are insufficient to support a strong generalizable claim either way. Such a statement would not be grounded in science. To make a generalizable claim, representative, large-sample studies are needed-many of them."

A large representative sample is supplied in a second new study, conducted by a University of Texas-Austin sociologist and published in the same journal. The New Family Structures Study (NFSS), under the direction of Dr. Mark Regnerus, provides the most representative picture to date of young adults whose parents had same-sex relationships. NFSS is a large, random, nationally representative sample.

According to NFSS, just 1.7 percent of young adults ages 18 to 39 reported having a parent who has had a same-sex romantic relationship. Compared to young adults in traditional, intact families, young adults whose mothers had a same-sex relationship tended to fare worse than their peers in intact biological families on 24 of the 40 outcomes examined. For example, they were far more likely to report being sexually victimized, to be on welfare, or to be currently unemployed.

Young adults whose fathers had a same-sex relationship showed significant differences from their peers in intact families on 19 of the outcomes. For example, they were significantly more likely to have contemplated suicide, to have a sexually transmitted infection, or to have been forced to have sex against their will.

These differences take into account the respondent's age, race/ethnicity, gender, mother's education, perceived family of origin's income, whether or not the respondent was ever bullied, and the legal status of same-sex relationships in the respondent's current state of residence. In other words, the study compared respondents who were identical on these characteristics, except for parental relationship status.

A significant improvement on the limited research to date on child outcomes and same-sex parenting, this new study marks an important development in the research. At present, far too little is known about this new household form into which activist courts are pushing America-and much of what has been presented to date gives an inaccurate picture of the reality that children of same-sex parenting have experienced.

NFSS project director Dr. Mark Regnerus concludes in an article for Slate that "the stable, two-parent biological married model [is] the far more common and accomplished workhorse of the American household, and still-according to the data, at least-the safest place for a kid."

Avoid J.C. Penney this Father's Day

Penney's needs to hear from you today!

June 13, 2012

Penney's is continuing its same-sex marriage promotion in advertisements. JCP's June catalog highlights "two dads" celebrating Father's Day.

The ad shows two men on the floor playing and hugging their two children at home. It reads, "First Pals - What makes Dad so cool? He's the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver - all rolled into one. Or two. Real-life dads Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their children Claire and Mason."

It is obvious that JCP is promoting the normalization of homosexual marriage.

AFA encourages your family to avoid shopping at JCP at least through Father's Day.

TAKE ACTION

1. Call Penney's corporate office at 972-431-1000 and let them know you family will not be shopping their stores this Father's Day (or beyond).

2. Call, or visit your local store manager. Local managers are more likely to listen to your concerns and pass them along to the corporate office. You can find the phone number of your local store here, or in your local phone directory.

3. Because JCP blocks emails from our server, you can send your own personal email to Penney's at jcpcorpcomm@jcpenney.com.

See our earlier alert here.

Sincerely,

Tim Wildmon, President
American Family Association

Heritage Fix Health Care Policy

Five Things the Administration Forgot to Tell Women About Obamacare

Last week, the Obama Administration hosted a health care town hall that was intended to focus on Obamacare's impact on women's health.

The discussion was heavy on emotion and light on the details of Obamacare's provisions. The Administration's generic talking points may or may not resonate with American women, but surely the real impact of Obamacare will-and in ways that are not favorable to the Administration.

Here's a summary of the adverse effects that some specific provisions will have on the women the Administration claims to be helping:

  1. Decreased Choice. Obamacare mandates that insurers cover preventive services recommended by the United State Preventive Services Task Force with no cost-sharing. This has quickly turned the task force's recommendations for doctors and patients into requirements on insurers and employers that could lead them to cover only services that are required of them.
  2. Higher Premiums. Obamacare's "free" preventive services will still be paid for by the consumer. Insurers and employers are not going to absorb those costs; they will simply pass them on to consumers through higher premiums.
  3. Blatantly Unjust Premiums. Obamacare's new age rating system causes insurers to charge unnaturally low premiums for older adults and higher premiums for younger adults. Actuaries estimate that this will increase premiums for ages 18-24 by 45 percent and ages 25-29 by 35 percent, regardless of gender.
  4. Increased Dependence on Government and its Bureaucrats. Obamacare expands the role of government and gives extensive authority to the Secretary of HHS. As depicted in "The Life of Julia," the Obama campaign envisions cradle-to-grave dependence on government for American women. Under Obamacare, more than half of all Americans will be dependent on the federal government for health care by 2020.
  5. Violation of Religious Liberty. At the town hall, when discussing the women-specific preventive care mandate that requires insurers to cover contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs without cost-sharing, the Administration failed to mention that while it exempts churches from this mandate, it does not waive religious hospitals, schools, or charities that find such products morally objectionable on religious grounds. That violates the First Amendment right to freedom of religion for all Americans-regardless of gender or faith.

American women don't want to be dependent on failed government-run health care like "Julia" would be under Obamacare. To see what Julia's life would be like with less government and more choice, check out Heritage's version of Julia's life with conservative health care reforms.

Green Welfare, Green Taxes, Green Poverty

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published June 13, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

What would you do if gangs of robbers roamed your neighborhood at night, breaking into your neighbors' houses and stealing their family jewels and life savings? You would arm yourself, and your family members of sufficient age, to defend your property. Or you would move to a safer neighborhood.

But if the robbers formed gangs called Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, or the Natural Resources Defense Fund, and assaulted your standard of living, the Che Guevara Democrats expect you to greet them with open arms, and gleefully turn over bushels of your cash, until your life savings is gone, and your standard of living has been reduced to the level of Argentina.

That third world destination is where Obama's "green energy" economic strategy is taking America, all while he tells us sweet fairy tales about how this path is the road to 21st century prosperity.."

Duped by Congressional Lies

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published June 6, 2012 on Townhall.com.

Some of the responses to my column last week, titled "Immoral Beyond Redemption," prove that Americans have been hoodwinked by Congress. Some readers protested my counting Social Security among government handout programs that can be described as Congress' taking what belongs to one American and giving to another, to whom it doesn't belong -- legalized theft. They argued that they worked for 45 years and paid into Social Security and that the money they now receive is theirs. These people have been duped and shouldn't be held totally accountable for such a belief. Let's look at it.

The Social Security pamphlet of 1936 read, "Beginning November 24, 1936, the United States Government will set up a Social Security account for you. ... The checks will come to you as a right." (http://www.ssa.gov/history/ssb36.html). Americans were led to believe that Social Security was like a retirement account and that money placed in it was, in fact, their property. Shortly after the Social Security Act's passage, it was challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court, in Helvering v. Davis (1937). The court held that Social Security was not an insurance program, saying, "The proceeds of both employee and employer taxes are to be paid into the Treasury like any other internal revenue generally, and are not earmarked in any way." In a 1960 case, Flemming v. Nestor, the Supreme Court said, "To engraft upon Social Security system a concept of 'accrued property rights' would deprive it of the flexibility and boldness in adjustment to ever-changing conditions which it demands."

Is the Star-Spangled Banner an 'Abomination'?

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published June 12, 2012 on The Patriot Post website.     Talk show host, Bill Press, doesn't like the Star-Spangled Banner. Imagine: a liberal talk show that's not on NPR! His radio show is simulcast on Current TV. Bill Press likes provoking conservatives, but I'm not sure we should be provoked by his outburst against the National Anthem. Bill Press seems to be testing the old philosopher's question: If a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a noise? If you say something on Current TV, does anyone hear it?

Press adds: "It is a major crusade of mine to get rid of the Star-Spangled Banner. Now I know you're going to say I am not a true American, I'm not patriotic. I don't think patriotism has anything to do with it. The National Anthem is just absolutely monumentally un-singable. I mean there's so much wrong with it. I don't know where to start. It's an abomination."

With Flag Day approaching, Bill Press sure chose a bad time to express his disdain for a cherished national institution. He couldn't top Roseanne Barr, of course, who infamously scratched her crotch while "O Saying."

On Today's Program

Glenn BeckMalkin destroys arrogant Juan Williams
Resident lefty on FNC Juan Williams is usually fairly cordial, but he had a pretty low moment yesterday when he arrogantly talked down to Michelle Malkin. An irritated Williams unleashed the ego and said 'real journalists' like him were sooo much better than lowly 'bloggers' out there on the blogosphere -- only to be slam dunked by Malkin.

Gasp! Romney calls doughnut a 'chocolate goody'
Mitt Romney is so out of touch with American culture he doesn't know what a doughnut is. At least that is what the left is now claiming after Romney referred to a doughnut as a 'chocolate goody.' What about President Obama - who is schmoozing with millionaires like Anna Wintour to fund his reelection and once admitted that his favorite food is arugula? Apparently that makes him 'cool.' Glenn broke down the hypocrisy on radio this morning.

Holder appointed Obama donor to investigate White House leaks
The same media that once went wall to wall on Valerie Plame, seems uninterested in the recent controversial intelligence leak. It's the latest in a long line of embarrassments for AG Eric Holder - so who does he appoint to investigate? An Obama donor, of course. Glenn has more on radio today.

Feel good vid of the year: ambitious 9 year old girl has dreams come true on GBTV
A 9-year-old girl attended Glenn's national Lemonade Stand/Bake Sale yesterday in Texas and she had one of the funnier signs on her stand. It warned customers to drink at their own risk and listed off all the permits she did not have. Her goal? Donate to charity and raise enough extra money to get a puppy. See her fantastic reaction as Pat & Stu pay just a tad too much for 1 cup of lemonade.

Father's Day Special: COWARDS is 50% off!
George Soros. Jim Wallis. Progressives. Libertarians. College endowments, tenured professors and teachers unions. No matter the topic, Glenn's brand new book COWARDS is an oversized, color, glossy, fully documented dose of the truth. The best news? Target is offering COWARDS at 50% off ($14), just in time for Father's Day. At that price, why not buy one for yourself and one for a gift! Check it out now at Target.com, or visit your local Target store this weekend. But hurry-this special price could change at any time.
Soros VS. Obama: Glenn devotes an entire chapter to one of today's competitors in the 100 Years of Cowards tournament: George Soros. The more you read about this guy, the scarier he gets.
