Glenn Beck

Activate: How to turn the 2012 election from a close call to a mandate

Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!

Tonight, the focus of the show was "Activate" - and it was all about the election and how you can make sure that one way or another - 2012 is a year for a mandate for or against the progressives. And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. It's a microcosm to what is happening around the country, and Glenn thought it was so important that he recapped it on tonight's show (in under three minutes!):

Gateway Pundit

June 10, 1964, was a dramatic day in the United States Senate. For the first time in its history, cloture was invoked on a civil rights bill, ending a record-breaking filibuster by Democrats that had consumed fifty-seven working days. The hero of the hour was minority leader Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen (R-Ill.).

On June 10, 1964, Democrats filibustered the Civil Rights Act.
Grand Old Partisan reported, via DANEgerus:

On this day in 1964, Everett Dirksen (R-IL), the Republican Leader in the U.S. Senate, condemned the Democrats' 57-day filibuster against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Leading the Democrats in their opposition to civil rights for African-Americans was Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV). Byrd, who got into politics as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan, spoke against the bill for fourteen straight hours. Democrats still call Robert Byrd "the conscience of the Senate."

In his speech, Senator Dirksen called on the Democrats to end their filibuster and accept racial equality.

Michael Zak wrote about this in his book Back to Basics for the Republican Party and reminds us that Democrats, the party of Slavery, Secession, Segregation and the KKK... fought against equality.

THE FILM NEITHER PARTY WANTS YOU TO SEE.

FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN begins with the simple question... Does the Republican Party really want more African Americans?  To find an answer to that question, a filmmaker journeys to find out why there aren't more Black Republicans and what that means for his own Republican Party and the Two-Party Political System in America.

FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN 2012 Election Trailer
FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN 2012 Election Trailer

Filmed and edited over a six year period, FEAR OF A BLACK REPUBLICAN examines why there are so few Black Republicans and how this affects the U.S. political system today.  From the Civil War to the Great Depression, the GOP was the Party for many African-Americans, but today, barely 10% of African Americans consider themselves to be Republican and Urban areas are no longer considered competitive parts of America's electoral map.  Beginning in his hometown of Trenton, NJ, independent filmmaker Kevin Williams speaks with BOTH Democrats and Republicans while taking a non-partisan journey over four years and two Presidential Elections to find out if the Two-Party Political System is failing his city and the country.  In taking a self-critical look at his own Republican Party, Williams explores the GOP's efforts in urban areas versus the suburbs, the Democratic Party's success in retaining the African American vote, the experiences of Black Republicans with Democrats and their own Party, and what this all means for the rest of us.  After taking the audience from Presidents Bush to Obama and through the 19th century to the 21st century, the result is a moving film which audiences won't likely forget.

Director's Statement:

"Before I started shooting, I was just a voter wondering why things weren't getting better after each election.  Picking up my camera changed everything for me.  My intention with this film is to find out if our political system supports the decaying of Urban America, what that means and what if anything can be done about it.  Journeying across the country and spending time with an important, but misunderstood segment of our society - Black Republicans, revealed a reality and an experience few will ever see.  As race, politics, human nature and history all clash in this film, I know that as the Director, I am only opening the book on this subject matter and its implications for America."

MoveOn.org just sent out an email advising all their followers to call Governor Scott, because "We have just 24 hours to make sure Governor Rick Scott stops his all-out assault on Florida's Latino voters." Now, not only will Governor Scott's email inbox be full of MoveOn generated emails, his phone will be ringing off the wall with callers telling him to abandon his efforts and allow Florida's rolls to remain bloated beyond recognition.

The Department of Justice has ORDERED Florida NOT to remove non-citizens from the state's voter rolls. Yes, you read that right - and you can read more sordid details here and here.
Florida's Governor, Secretary of State, and Local Supervisors of Elections are now facing enormous pressure from the Federal government, so it is incredibly important that they hear from citizens across the country, encouraging them to stand strong.

We're asking you to join us, and patriot groups across Florida, as we work together to FLOOD the GOV with emails of support!
Every day this week, please send a short email to Florida's Governor and Secretary of State, in support of Free and Fair elections. When you write - tell personal stories. If you have witnessed voter fraud or seen issues in the polls, write about it. If you believe maintaining accurate voter rolls should be a priority, let them know. Always be cordial and polite - remember the media will be watching.

Because of Florida's "sunshine laws" on transparency, all elected officials' emails are public documents, so the MEDIA monitors these emails. Yes, the same media folk who are busily spinning a false narrative about Florida, demonizing them for daring to uphold election integrity and trying to sway public opinion against the state. These spinsters are closely monitoring the Governor's emails, along with the emails of the Secretary of State and Supervisors of Elections, to guage public response is. Special interests and vote fraud deniers will be out in droves; we need to FLOOD the GOVernment with emails that offset the deluge of email being sent by these groups.

The State of Florida must respond to the Department of Justice by tomorrow. Time is of the essence. If you believe having 180,000 non-citizens on Florida's voter rolls is unacceptable, then take 5 minutes to both email and call Governor Scott and let him know you stand with Florida, in their effort to uphold election integrity.
Our goal is for thousands of emails to reach the inboxes of Governor Scott and Secretary Detzner, supporting Florida and encouraging them to stand strong against the Feds.

Governor Rick Scott's email: DOS.SecretaryofState@DOS.MyFlorida.com
Call him at (850) 488-7146
Secretary of State Ken Detzner's email: secretaryofstate@dos.state.fl.us

Fellow patriots, there is a battle raging over our electoral process and the sanctity of our vote; the victor wins our country. Do not sit on the sidelines. Please email and call Governor Scott now.
FLOOD THE GOVernment
-- send emails every day --
do not remain silent!

If our elections are not truly fair, we are not truly free....

RJC Philadelphia Chapter

Breakfast with Tom Smith -

GOP Candidate for U.S. Senate

Monday, June 25

Tom Smith's background is a common one in Pennsylvania and across the country, but one that is all too rare in the United States Senate-which may explain a great deal about how our country came to this point in our history.

Tom still lives on the farm in Armstrong County where he grew up. After graduating from Elderton High School in 1965, he postponed college to help his father tend that farm and supplemented his income by driving a school bus. Before too long, Tom had married his high school sweetheart, Saundy, started a family, and went to work in a local surface coal mine.

In 1989, Tom entered the coal business himself, mortgaging everything he had in the hope that he could build a better life for himself and his family. He succeeded, building a series of companies in a highly regulated industry through some tough economic times. When he sold the companies in 2010, they were mining more than a million tons of coal a year and employed over one-hundred people.

Sen. Marco Rubio Live

Dom Giordano welcomes

Senator Marco Rubio (R - FL)

Wednesday, June 20, 2012
7-8:30 PM
Location: National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

"Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up." (Marco Rubio)

marco rubio an american son 150 Sen. Marco Rubio LiveThere are very few politicians that have risen to national prominence as quickly as Marco Rubio. At age forty-one there is huge interest in and speculation about his political future. Will he be tapped by Mitt Romney to be his running mate? Will he run for President in 2016?

His story is detailed in his new book 'An American Son." Rubio is the son of parents who fled Cuba in the 1950's. Using the work ethic and tenacity instilled in him by his parents and grandfather, Rubio earned a law degree. As a young attorney he ran for the West Miami City Commission, a role that led to the Florida House of Representatives. In just six years he rose to Speaker of the House and became a leading advocate for free enterprise, better schools, limited government, and a fairer, simpler tax system. He found that he could connect with people across party lines while still upholding conservative values.

His U.S. Senate campaign started as an extreme long shot againstFlorida's popular incumbent governor, Charlie Crist. Rubio traveled the state with his message of empowerment and optimism. He upset Crist in both the primary and a dramatic three-way general election, after Crist quit the GOP to run as an independent.

Now Rubio speaks on the national stage about the challenges we face and the better future that's possible if we return to our founding principles. As he puts it , "Conservatism is not about leaving people behind. Conservatism is about allowing people to catch up."

In that vision, as in his family's story, Rubio proves that the American Dream is still alive for those who pursue it.

Tickets are $25.00 and include a hard cover copy of his brand new book 'An American Son."

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Israel Defense Fund

Tonight, Sunday June 3rd, CUFI Founder and Chairman, Pastor John Hagee, will be announcing an exciting new CUFI initiative.  You can click here to watch it live at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific). This link will not be live until 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central, 5:30 PM Mountain, 4:30 PM Pacific) tonight.

Tonight, Pastor Hagee will be announcing the creation of the Israel Defense Fund.  This emergency fund will enable CUFI to meet the major challenges we anticipate in the coming months.

CUFI has accomplished great things for Israel.  But the times in which we live demand that we do even more -- and do so now!

We need to do more to defend Israel in the public square and in the media.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to purchase more pro-Israel billboards across America as well as full-page newspaper ads as circumstances demand.

We need to do more to defend Israel on our college campuses.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to train even more students and hold even more pro-Israel events on campuses across the country.

We need to do more to defend Israel before our leaders.  The Israel Defense Fund will enable us to  be more active than ever in educating our nation's leaders about the justice of Israel's cause.

Even if you can't watch the broadcast, don't miss out on the opportunity to be part of the Israel Defense Fund! Click here now to contribute

We will not be silent.  Together, we will do more than ever to stand up and speak up for Israel.

May God Bless You and Those that You Love,

David Brog

If you are concerned about the growing threat of radical Islam and Sharia Law to our great land and you haven't seen a plan of action to meet this evil head on, here's your opportunity to join with us for real, measurable results.

Results that make a difference, not just a statement.

Registration will start at 7:30 AM with the event starting at 8:30 AM and running through 5:00 PM.

Here are a few comments we have received from previous training seminars around the nation:

"...After 8 hours in that chair ............. I was ready for another 8 hours - it seemed to end too soon..."

"I was literally stunned. Wow!
Brigitte Gabriel has assembled an incredible team to support her message of action and hope!"

"...As much as the issue depresses me, and I could cry every time I think about what is happening to the West, I left yesterday's conference energized and inspired. The day reminded me that I am *not* alone, after all, in trying to resist the dangerous absurdity of radical Islam that is being forced on us. I'm in desperate need of such reminders, as I'm sure most of us are. Whenever I'm close to despair, I remind myself of Brigitte's message. Thank you so much for this incredible training day!"

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

The New York Times article, "Liberals Are Ruining America. I Know Because I Am One" contains the classic liberal screwed up thinking. I submitted the letter you see below, limited by their 1500-word restriction. It's now appearing.

Lou Flanagan

The General Wayne Tea Party

"I agree with the writer about Hannity's presentation as bullying

"But Almond's comment about "helping" women to deal with unwanted pregnancies exposes how today's radical liberals embrace the insanity that nearly all problems can be solved by collective effort and not by the individual taking responsibility for their behavior, Mr. Almond, any woman can acquire contraceptives and can find a group that will fund killing her unborn if she so wishes. Fine, just don't expect me or my church or others of faith, or even ordinary taxpayers to fund it on our dime.

"The final clue about Almond's insularity is his remark that the Tea Party is inflamed and partly financed by lobbying groups. I happen to run a Tea Party and am familiar with most of the Tea Parties and similar groups in eastern Pennsylvania, south Jersey and Delaware. Our finances derive totally from what members drop toss into the coffee can at our meetings or contribute during our fundraisers.

"As for his "inflamed by", he confuses us with Acorn, Move On, OCCUPY and other top-down radicals. Each Tea Party is fiercely independent and wary of any outside entity, much as you would be if someone wishes to join your family or have dealings with your business. Our wariness extends to BOTH parties. Come to some meetings, Mr. Acorn; you have nothing to lose but your kneejerk preconceptions, generated by people like yourself."

(CNSNews.com) -Attorney General Eric Holder told the House Judiciary Committee Thursday that the Justice Department will "vigorously use" anti-Jim Crow provisions in the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to prevent some southern states from purging ineligible voters from their rolls and enacting voter-I.D. laws.

"It is the position of this Department of Justice and certainly this Attorney General that we will vigorously defend and vigorously use Section 5. The need for it is still there."

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act requires several southern states and counties in states such as California and Florida to get federal "pre-clearance" before they change any voting eligibility laws or voting requirements or procedures.

Victory Center" on Facebook

-Gabriel Malor

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

RedState Morning Briefing

RedState Morning Briefing

For June 12, 2012

1. The Amateur's Nominee

Brett McGurk is another example of just what an amateur Barack Obama is. Today comes news that the Commerce Secretary committed two hit and run crashes after suffering "seizures." There is no word on what caused the seizures and Johnny Walker was unavailable for comment.

Now, there is Brett McGurk.

2. Senate GOP Must Oppose Andrew Hurwitz for 9th Circuit

While most of us have been caught up in the sensation of electoral politics and the death of the union machine in Wisconsin, liberal activists have been working indefatigably to pack the courts - the unelected branch of government - with radicals who disrespect the Constitution. We might have turned over a number of congressional seats and state houses in 2010, but Obama has successfully turned over many conservative seats in our federal court system. Since taking office, Obama has appointed 150 people to federal judgeships, including 29 to appellate courts, and 2 to the Supreme Court. He has had an indelible effect on the orientation of the 4th Circuit in particular.

3. Remember the Democrat Justices of the Florida Supreme Court During Bush v. Gore?

Pretty much everyone expect the most hard charging partisans have finally conceded that, despite the United States Supreme Court's involvement in Bush v. Gore, George Bush did win Florida by just over 500 votes in 2000. In fact, in a nonpartisan media backed recount effort, George Bush would have won by every standard demanded, including Al Gore's standard, except ironically George Bush's preferred standard.

While everyone largely now excepts that George Bush won Florida, Democrats still hold hard hearts toward the supposed partisan hacks on the United States Supreme Court. They choose to ignore the even more clearly partisan Justices of the Florida Supreme Court who became, during their hearings in the recount matter, national embarrassments.

Three of the Justices, Barbara Pariente, R. Fred Lewis, and Peggy Quince are back in the news for, yet again, being an embarrassment. Their high handedness from the 2000 election seems to have continued.

4. House Republicans Just Can't Bring Themselves To Cut Spending

Did you know that House Republicans are still defeating amendment after amendment to cut spending - even relatively small amounts?

You probably didn't realize this because, for some reason, no one is reporting it. So here are just a few of the amendments the House defeated last week. If you're not happy with this record House Republicans are compiling this election year, let them know now!

5. The 911 Call and 80+ Members of Congress

As most of you know, my family was swatted on May 27, 2012.

The police, at the time, told me they were responding to a 911 call about an accidental shooting.

I now have the 911 call. It turns out that the call was not about an accidental shooting. The caller said I had shot my wife, she was dead on the floor in front of me, and I was going off to shoot someone else.

. . . .

Last week, Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) asked the Attorney General to get the FBI to look into the matter. It's clear the incident happened across state lines and also that only the FBI has the technical resources to be able to trace the call.

Today, more than 80 members of the United States House of Representatives are also sending a letter to Attorney General Holder asking for an investigation.

Give them another reason why Obama has GOT to go.

NO. 10.
Just how economically illiterate-make that economically suicidal-do you have to be to launch the eye-wateringly expensive Obamacare program (not to mention the bailouts and the "stimulus" spending that's directed almost entirely to government workers-just what hard-pressed taxpayers need, more government workers to be kept wallowing in pork) in the midst of the biggest financial crisis America has seen since the 1930s? Just how does recklessly expanding America's debt to the point of near bankruptcy and raising taxes on the productive sector of the economy serve any useful purpose? No wonder economist Arthur Laffer is predicting a double-dip recession. The recovery won't begin till Obama is out of office-and never let a liberal try to tell you otherwise.

Can We Ban Islam? - Legal Guidelines for the Criminalization of Islam in the United States

By Daniel Greenfield Monday, May 4, 2009

Geert Wilders' recent call at a Palm Beach synagogue to ban Islam has stirred up all sorts of controversy, with more "moderate" blogs speaking out in opposition to it. So let's take a closer look at the issue of banning Islam.

Banning Islam is more difficult in the United States than in Europe, because of the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

On the surface of it this is a fairly straightforward formulation barring the legislative branch from taking any action to create a state religion or barring the practice of any religion.

This ITAI WEEKLY MIDDLE EAST REPORT is personal- it is a Personal Perspective on the Six Day War.

THE SIX DAY WAR- A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE

By: Joseph Puder

The passage of 45 years can easily dim one's perspective on an event such as the Six Day War of June 1967.  However, as an active participant in that war, the fears, worries, and jubilation of that unforgettable week will forever remain etched in my mind.  The long hours of work in an airbase are remembered as the most profound in my life. And, like all Israelis, the sight of paratroopers weeping at the Western Wall was the culmination of those intense days.

Tension gripped the State Israel in May of 1967 as Egypt's President Abdul Nasser ordered the removal of the UN observers in the Sinai Peninsula.   U Thant, the Burmese Secretary General of the UN, easily complied with Nasser's command. Egyptian troops were quick to reoccupy the positions held by the UN observer force.

The streets of Tel Aviv and other major cities were quieter than usual as thousands of reservists were mobilized.  The country's mood was somber.  High school kids were digging ditches, or - more specifically - graves, for the expected large number of casualties the war would bring.  In sharp contrast to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the mood in Cairo was one of jubilation.  Nasser promised to throw the Jews to the sea, and the taste of revenge for the defeats of 1948 and 1956 replaced the bitterness of the past two decades.

A cartoon published in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Farida just before the June 1967 Six Day war depicted Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser kicking a Jew off the cliff and presumably into the sea, as he promised to do to the Jews of Israel in his speeches.  Egypt was not alone in its war against Israel; it was joined by Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, along with contingents from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Libya, and Algeria.

This was to be a war of extermination against the Jews, and in Israel, only 22-years after the Holocaust, the Jews of Israel once again felt friendless and alone.  The blood curdling images on Arab television stations evoked unpleasant memories of Nazi hatred. The TV broadcasts showed mobs in every Arab capital shouting "Itbach al-Yahood"/Death to the Jews. Arab political figures joined Nasser in vowing to once and for all drive the Jews to the sea.

Israel with a population of a little over 2 million was surrounded by an Arab world of over 100 million.  The Arab forces facing Israel numbered 547,000 compared to Israel's total of 264,000 (including all of the reserve forces and representing 10% of the population).  The Arabs had 397 combat aircrafts to Israel's 300, and 2504 tanks compared to Israel's 800.  The odds weighed heavily in favor of the Arabs.  Moreover, the Soviet Union was actively supplying the Arab armies of Egypt, Iraq, and Syria.

The Soviets encouraged the Arabs to fight Israel while the U.S. and Britain refrained from openly supplying either side.  France, which has been Israel's prime arms supplier, changed its position under De Gaulle, who was itching to switch sides on the Arab-Israeli conflict.  He ultimately cut off weapons sales and deliveries to Israel, and in fact, embargoed arms already paid for by Israel.

On May 22, 1967, Nasser closed the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships.  The maritime powers, including the U.S. and Britain who were supposed to guarantee Israeli shipping through the Straits following Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai in 1957, did nothing to compel the Egyptians to open the Straits.  Nasser declared provocatively, "If Yitzhak Rabin, Israel's Chief of Staff wants war then he was welcomed to it."

Jordan informed Nasser on May 30, 1967, that it is putting its troops at Cairo's disposal.  Iraq and several other Arab nations followed suit. In Israel, Prime Minister Levi Eshkol brought the opposition, including Menahem Begin into a Unity Government, and on June 2, 1967, Moshe Dayan was appointed Defense Minister.

Back at our airbase, Jordanian bombs fell only yards from our barracks.  The thunderous sounds of the explosions shook up the few us who were stealing a few hours of rest following the around-the-clock schedule of preparing our aircrafts for combat.

On Monday afternoon, June 5, 1967, all squadron crews were assembled at the parade grounds of the base.  The base commander in a trembling and excited voice announced that "as of this moment the Arab air-forces no longer exist."  We the air and ground crew threw our berets in the air and embraced each other in a way that men rarely do.  It was a moment of enormous relief following a month-long accumulated tension.  It was an historical moment to cherish, and it was a triumphal flash one never forgets.

Two days later, on Wednesday June 7, the Jerusalem and the paratrooper brigades, commanded by the late Morechai Gur, took control of the Old City of Jerusalem.  Bitter fighting ensued with mounting casualties, as the IDF troops burst through the Old City's Lion's Gate and captured the Western Wall and Temple Mount. And once again, upon getting the news, our airbase went wild with dancing as we heard the announcement "Temple Mount is in our hands" followed by the special song written by Naomi Shemer and sung by Shuli Nathan "Jerusalem of Gold." It was to become the war's most memorable song.

The Jerusalem Brigade continued their difficult combat in an urban setting by storming through the Old City's Dung Gate, opening a path through the southern parts of East Jerusalem, and then continued southward to capture Bethlehem, Hebron, and Gush Etzion (lost to the Jordanians during the War of Independence).  The Northern command division seized Nablus, and the IDF forces then pushed towards the Jordan Valley and finally reaching the Jordan River.  The IDF allowed the remaining Jordanian troops to cross the river unmolested.

In 1956, in what has become known as the Sinai Campaign, Israel captured the Sinai and reached the Suez Canal.  Under pressure from the U.S. Israel withdrew in 1957.  The recapture of the Sinai in the early days of the Six Day War and the smashing of the Egyptian army swelled our hearts, but nothing brought us more joy than the capture of the Old City and the Biblical cities of Hebron and Bethlehem. The one thorn in Israel's side remained the endless attacks by the Syrians on the kibbutzim around the Sea of Galilee from the Golan Heights. In the last two days of the war Israeli troops scaled and captured the Golan - at the cost of 115 soldiers.  Israeli war losses were 777 dead with 2,586 wounded.  On the Arab side, Egyptian dead numbered 15,000, Syrian 2500, and Jordanian 800.

It was not until several weeks after the war that our squadron received passes to go home, and when we did it was an unforgettable experience.  Mothers and daughters stood at crossroads where soldiers returning home would be welcomed with food and drink and invitations for dinner.  A euphoria such as never before or since enveloped Israel.  It felt that God alone performed this miraculous victory against great odds. The Six Day War transformed the Jews from victims to victors, and parenthetically, Israel's image in the western media changed from the proverbial David to a sort of Goliath, as the focus shifted from the Arab world to the Palestinian Arabs.

One indelible effect of the War was revealed to me few years later in New York, when an Irish-Catholic woman I had helped out said to me, upon learning that I was an Israeli, "I didn't know that Jews knew how to fight..."

NYC Principal Says No to Students Singing 'God Bless the USA'

By Elisabeth Meinecke

6/10/2012

Depending on who you ask, the song 'God Bless the USA' by Lee Greenwood has been banned from one school's graduation because 1)it would offend other cultures or 2)the lyrics are too adult for the kids.

The New York Post says this:

Greta Hawkins, principal of PS 90, the Edna Cohen School, won't allow kindergartners to belt out the beloved Lee Greenwood ballad, also known as "Proud to be an American," at their moving-up ceremony.

Five classes spent months learning the patriotic song, which skyrocketed in popularity after the 9/11 attacks and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

It was to be the rousing finale of their musical show at the June 20 commencement. The kids, dressed up for their big day, would wave tiny American flags - which, as the lyrics proclaim, "still stand for freedom."

But Hawkins marched in on a recent rehearsal and ordered a CD playing the anthem to be shut off, staffers said.

She told the teachers to drop the song from the program.

"We don't want to offend other cultures," they quoted her as explaining. ...

Act for America

June 11, 2012     Lawsuit filed against
NYPD

The New Jersey Attorney General's office recently completed an investigation of the New York Police Department's surveillance program.

It concluded the NYPD did nothing wrong.

And while Muslims like Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, who oppose groups like CAIR, have come out in support of the NYPD, other Muslims are continuing to allege the NYPD's tactics are unconstitutional.

See the post from Jihad Watch below.

Suit against NYPD asks that surveillance of Muslims based on faith be declared unconstitutional     http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/06/suit-against-nypd-asks-that-surveillance-of-muslims-based-on-faith-be-declared-unconstitutional.html

Islamic jihadists murder and terrorize other people based on their faith, but it is not permissible for Infidel authorities to take that into account. By actions like this one, Islamic supremacists in the U.S. are determined to end all effective resistance to their jihad.

More on this story. "Suit against NYPD asks that surveillance of Muslims based on faith be declared unconstitutional," by James Queally for The Star-Ledger, June 6 (thanks to Benedict):

NEWARK - The New York Police Department's years-long surveillance of Muslim businesses and mosques throughout the Northeast denigrated the Islamic faith and violated the constitutional rights of countless Muslim-Americans, according to a federal lawsuit filed in Newark today.

The suit, which is the first legal challenge of the NYPD's spy operations, could mark the beginning of a historical movement, said Farhana Khera, executive director of Muslim Advocates, the civil rights group filing the suit on behalf of several New Jersey residents.

"This lawsuit is perhaps the most important legal challenge brought to date by American Muslims," Khera said.

The eight plaintiffs are all Muslims from New Jersey and include a U.S. Army reservist, a Newark business owner who served in Vietnam and the imams of several mosques who were targeted by the NYPD Surveillance and Demographics unit.

The suit is calling for a "declaratory judgment" which labels specific surveillance of Muslims based on faith unconstitutional, said Glenn Katon, the legal director for Muslim Advocates.

Katon is also seeking a court order prohibiting the NYPD from future surveillance of Muslims based on faith and the destruction of all records compiled by the NYPD during its spy operations.

"When the NYPD says all Muslims are suspects we have a clear case of government denigrating religion," Katon said.

The OIC is trying to pressure Western countries to criminalize "denigration of religion."

Katon said that while the lawsuit is focused on New Jersey residents, further legal action could involve New York residents as well.

Muslim Advocates considered including Newark police in the lawsuit, but ultimately there were too many conflicting reports about the extent of their involvement in NYPD operations in New Jersey.

All eight plaintiffs were New Jersey residents that were in one way or another watched during NYPD's operations including at least two members of Rutgers' Muslim Student Association.

In the month since the Associated Press released a 50-page document detailing the NYPD's actions in Newark, several Muslim leaders in New Jersey have spoken out on the ways the report has had a "chilling effect" on the Muslim community.

"This is a blanket victimization of a suspect class," said specialist Farhaj Hassan, a U.S. Army reservist and one of the plaintiffs. "I think this is what the pilgrims crossed the ocean to avoid."

The suit comes two weeks after State Attorney Jeffrey Chiesa announced the completion of a three-month review into the NYPD's actions in New Jersey. His office found New York investigators did nothing wrong or criminal, leaving many Muslim leaders in New Jersey to feel like the lawsuit was a last resort to vindicate themselves.

"They don't have the right to spy and do surveillance on innocent people, on good citizens," said Newark Imam Abdul Kareem Muhammad.

The NYPD could not be reached for comment immediately, but on Tuesday NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Paul Browne said, "I refer you to the New Jersey AG's report and to the fact that NYPD activities in New Jersey were lawful, appropriate and in keeping with efforts there, in New York, and around the world to prevent terrorists from returning here to kill more New Yorkers."

  Indeed.

Obama's Revealing Gaffe

Barack Obama shocked the country at a press conference Friday when he said, "The private sector is doing fine." No doubt that came as quite a shock to America's struggling middle class, entrepreneurs and investors.

Everyone flubs a line once in a while. But the most damaging gaffes are those that seemingly reinforce widely-held suspicions. And the most damaging suspicion that many Americans have about Barack Obama is that he is clueless when it comes to economic growth.

Even with Obama's so-called "recovery," we have still lost about 5 million jobs since the "Great Recession" began. Job creation is at a virtual halt, the unemployment rate is going up and Obama says the private sector is "doing fine."

But that wasn't all Obama said Friday morning. He went on to make this stunning statement:

"Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government... And so, if Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is, how do we help state and local governments and how do we help the construction industry."

Wasn't that what the $830 billion stimulus bill was for? As the Wall Street Journal editorial board observed, Obama "continues to believe, despite three and a half years of failure, that more government spending is the key to faster growth and that government really doesn't need to reform. This is how you get a jobless rate above 8% for 40 months and the weakest economic recovery in 60 years."

Once again, the Journal nails it. By the way, ABC News reported last week that under Obama's tenure, we've added more than 140,000 bureaucrats to the federal payroll. Big Government is doing just fine!

Within hours the White House was in damage control mode, and Obama was forced to retract his initial statement. Later in the afternoon, Obama said, "Listen, it is absolutely clear that the economy is not doing fine."

Given Obama's own admission that his policies have failed, it's absolutely clear that we need new leadership in the White House and the Senate!

Out Of Touch

Obama's bizarre comments about the economy reveal just how out of touch he is. But he gave us plenty of other clues before Friday. Click here to watch our latest web video on our out of touch president.

Obama Ignores Christian Persecution

When the history of the early part of the 21st Century is written, a story that is sure to fill many pages is one that receives scandalously little attention now: the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

A seemingly indifferent Obama Administration has neglected the plight of Christians abroad. It has chosen instead to advance its radical social agenda, including abortion and homosexual rights. And Obama's continued appeasement of Islamic governments means the cries of millions of persecuted Christians in the Middle East go unheard.

Here's more evidence of this administration's indifference to Christian persecution: the U.S. State Department has removed sections covering religious freedom from the Country Reports on Human Rights that it released on May 24th (three months after the statutory deadline Congress set for the release of the reports). This means the reports provide no details about the besieged Christian communities in many countries where Christians are treated as unwelcome intruders at best and mortal enemies at worst -- places like Egypt, Syria and Iran.

Liberals have spent the last six months whining about a so-called "war on women" because the Catholic Church and other religious institutions refuse to pay for abortion-inducing drugs. If the administration really cared about women, it would do something about forced abortions in China or the way women are treated in the Middle East. Christian women have become a particular target in the Middle East, where they are commonly threatened with rape if they don't convert to Islam.

Obama has shown throughout his term that he simply does not care about the plight of religious minorities. He does the millions of Christians in the Middle East a profound injustice by referring to that region as "the Muslim world," which only serves to reinforce the Islamists' contention that Christians do not belong there. (By the way, when did he last refer to the "Christian world"?)

President Obama is busy attacking religious freedom in America. But his policies have been just as devastating to Christians abroad. At least Christians in America have an opportunity to do something about it. We can defend religious liberty here and be a voice for persecuted believers overseas by voting Obama out of office on November 6th!

Holding Holder In Contempt

CBS News reports that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will likely vote next week on a report holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. The charge stems from Holder's constant stonewalling on the congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, which resulted in the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

The Media's Double Standard for Muslims

Posted By Robert Spencer

On June 11, 2012

The mainstream media claims to be multicultural, respecting all cultures equally, but actually holds Muslims and the Islamic world to a standard so low that it would have brought a furious blush to the cheeks of the most dyed-in-the-wool White Man's Burden-carrier in the old British Raj.

Case in point: have you heard about the London vicar who said that if a newborn baby is not an Anglican, "the devil inserts his index finger into the anus of the newborn, who thus becomes a passive homosexual"? Of course, no vicar ever said such a thing; it was actually the London-based Shi'ite cleric Yasser Habib, who said [1] on his Fadak TV satellite channel on May 24 that at birth, "if the newborn is not one of our Shiites, the devil inserts his index finger into the anus of the newborn, who thus becomes a passive homosexual." If a Christian minister really had said such a thing, the outcry would be immediate, indignant, and international; but the world will little note nor long remember the statements of Yasser Habib. A Muslim cleric saying hateful things about those not within his fold? Go back to sleep.

There will be little note of this because for all its multicultural protestations, the mainstream media simply doesn't have the same expectations of Muslims that it has of non-Muslims. Another example: the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which routinely enjoys a free pass from the media as a neutral civil rights organization when it has actually been amply established as a water-carrier in the U.S. for Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, is holding a rally in Southern California on June 23. Billed as a "Summer Night for Civil Rights," the rally will feature Dean Obeidallah, a self-styled comedian who is less concerned with being funny than with pushing Islamic advocacy groups' false victimhood narrative of "Islamophobia."

Trend #6: Tax Abolition   Jun 10, 2012 03:00 pm

Seven states have no income tax and five states have no sales tax. Abolishing an entire tax means ridding your taxpayers of the associated compliance costs and loss to economic growth, but one must figure out whether to make up the revenue with spending cuts or higher taxes elsewhere. No state has abolished a major tax since Alaska ended its income tax in 1980, but some are now trying.

Obama just caught in big lie?
Documents show he was socialist party member.
Has Barack Obama been caught in a lie that could become a major issue in the upcoming election?

During the 2008 presidential election cycle, Obama's campaign categorically denied the politician was ever a member of the New Party, which sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.

President Obama's 2008 political campaign may not be the only ones caught making possibly misleading statements about the politician's alleged membership in the 1990's socialist-leaning New Party.

The now defunct New Party's founder, University of Wisconsin professor Joel Rogers, is currently denying his organization had ever had any members, thus making it impossible for Obama to have ever been an official member.

Speaking this past Friday to Buzzfeed.com editor Ben Smith, Rogers stated of Obama's purported membership: "I have no idea what the Chicago people were saying about him being a member...We didn't have membership, it wasn't a membership organization."

How'd you like a nice Hawaiian (sucker) punch?

By Nellie Butterfield, staff writer

When Barack Obama presented a "genuine" digital long-form birth certificate, the (threatened) (1) media swallowed it hook, line, and sinker - even though glaring problems were identified (2) that day. Sheriff Arpaio's March 1 presser (3) announced probable cause (and a criminal investigation) for forgery and fraud for that BC and Obama's draft registration.  The media ignored (4) the evidence, like Charlie Brown refusing to notice that Lucy/Obama pulled the ball away leaving them belly-up. Now the media is again belly-up after swallowing a legally-worthless "verification".

Arizona  Secretary of State Ken Bennett gave the Hawaii Department of Health the suspected gender, date of birth, city and island of birth, father's name, and mother's name for Barack Obama on a form (5)requiring the HDOH to verify the true facts (6) of Obama's birth. He also asked (7) them to verify some items ... Continue Reading:How'd you like a nice Hawaiian (sucker) punch?

The 8th day of June, about 6 o'clock, he resigned his spirit to his Heavenly Father...
He believed the liberties of his country imperishable...
He departed from this life in a full hope of a blessed immortality through the merits and atonement of the Redeemer."

Is Obama committing political suicide?

Jun 10, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

While President Obama has been especially adroit at destroying the values,  and Religious underpinnings of Americans, and tearing down individual freedoms funding apparatus, Capitalism, I never thought I would see him turn his purposely harmful tactics unto his own election campaign.

Are we watching a political suicide in the making?

Can anyone believe the smartest President of modern times, the Harvard professor, is really trying to get re-elected?

After Friday's speech where he said the "private sector is fine," and then had to address and walk back that statement? - I have to wonder about his real intentions.

I want to address the unnoticed head shot Obama inflicted upon himself, with no prodding or goading from anyone!

Classless Warfare Fails in Wisconsin

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published June 8, 2012 on The Washington Times website.

Wouldn't it be awful if an important election hinged on some fat cats outspending the opposition? That was the liberals' excuse for the failure of Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett to unseat Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in Tuesday's recall election.

The Washington Post's Dan Eggen used figures from the "nonpartisan" Wisconsin Democracy Campaign to report that Mr. Walker raised $30.5 million to Mr. Barrett's measly $3.9 million. Wow, what a spread. Too bad it's not the whole picture, as Ben Shapiro pointed out at Breitbart.com: "As it turns out, labor unions spent an additional $21 million on the recall election."

Instead of 7-1 or 10-1, the "spending gap" was closer to $30 million-$25 million. Also, in a recall election of several GOP Wisconsin senators in September, "Democrats outspent Republicans $23.4 million to $20.5 million."

Obama's Pregnant 'Denials'

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue was published June 10, 2012 on The Daily Caller website.

President Obama is offended by accusations that the White House authorized leaks of highly classified national security information detailed in Confront and Conceal, a new book by David Sanger of The New York Times. Obama hasn't denied that leaks occurred.

"The notion that my White House would purposely release classified national security information is offensive. It's wrong," he said during Friday's press conference.

Media usually call it a "non-denial denial." The law calls it a "negative pregnant": a denial of an allegation in which a person actually admits more than he/she denies by denying only a part of the alleged fact.

Does Obama mean that the "notion" is "wrong" because it's "offensive," or that it's wrong because it didn't happen?

NY Times: Evidence White House Colluded with Big Pharma to Push Obamacare

By: Patrick Hobin

A new trove of emails shows President Barack Obama's White House agreed to help drug companies block a proposal to bring down medicine prices so they would back Obama's healthcare plan.

House Republicans obtained the three-year-old correspondence between the Obama administration and representatives of the drug industry and released more of them to the public on Friday, The New York Times reported.

The exchanges show the compromises as they were being negotiated that laid the groundwork for the health care law now awaiting the judgment of the Supreme Court.

A Republican Liberation Movement
The real lesson of Wisconsin is that the Republican Party is at its strongest and greatest when it acts as a revolutionary liberation movement, breaking apart the power relationships of the Democratic Party that stifle people's personal, economic and religious lives.

The Democratic Party has made it its mandate to politicize and collectivize the personal. It has done this to militarize every area of life, to transform all human activities into a battlefield and to bring every area of life under the aegis of its power relationships. These power relationships form its infrastructure, fusing together governmental and non-governmental organizations, to form the true ruling class.

These power relationships act as dams, walling up human energy into organizational structures, they create the mandates that provide power and money to the organizations, which are fed throughout the infrastructure to create a massive cage of bureaucrats, activists and think-tanks that set the agenda, which becomes law, and is then enforced by governments at every level.

The base activity of the left is organizational. Organizing a group dams it up. The organizers harvest its energy and use it to power their infrastructure. The purpose of a group is to draw money and power into the organization from outside and inside. Money and power are drawn from the inside through dues and member obedience. Money and power are drawn from the outside through leverage exercised by making demands on behalf of the group.

The left operates by wrapping its power relationships in principles. It seeks out groups that give it not only political leverage, but also moral leverage. Groups that it can claim to organize and protect at the same time.

The Teachers unions are a classic example. Organizing teachers gives it a core pressure point. A society will do everything to protect its children. The teachers unions insist that their demands represent the welfare of the children. That they are not representatives of mere employees, but of education itself. Once a union has organized an entire group that is seen as performing a vital service, it can claim to embody a moral imperative.

Similar moral imperatives are used to embody the power relationships of the Democratic Party. There is never anything selfish about the Party. It's always stealing and spending, squandering and kicking back money for some protected group, whether it's children or minorities, or any entry on a long list of them. It is constantly protecting them by building up its own infrastructure and the power relationships that form that infrastructure.

Unionization has moved away from the classic labor unions and toward public sector unions, which control public services. The best unions are those that appear to have a moral imperative, like teachers or nurses, and that can elect the politicians that it bargains for a new contract with. This forms a simple but perfect power relationship. Unions help elect a mayor or governor. The mayor or governor agrees to a generous union contract. The unions reward him by supporting him in the next election.

Boy Scouts Stick to Their Guns, Refuse to Change Policy on Gays

05052012ScoutsThe Boy Scouts are refusing to change their policy on not allowing openly gay people to serve in Scouting in any capacity.

The media recently have been panting over the possibility that the Boy Scouts might finally fold on their stance of upholding traditional moral values as activists tried new ploys to get gays into Scouting.

That gays want to change the Boy Scouts to suit themselves is nothing new. Several years ago, the Supreme Court had to weigh in on the issue and stood by the organization's right to not associate with people who don't uphold its clear values.

Heritage Foundation Morning Bell

The Private Sector is Not "Doing Fine"

In now-infamous comments on Friday, President Barack Obama informed America that "the private sector is doing fine." This, of course, was news to the 12.7 million people who are out of work and the millions more who are struggling with the part-time jobs they can find, or have simply given up looking.

While the President's comment is astoundingly out of touch with the public-and economic reality-perhaps even more distressing is that this wasn't a passing verbal gaffe. This is actually a consistent talking point of the President and Democratic leadership that goes largely unchallenged by the media.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) made the same case last fall when he was pushing a $35 billion bailout for state and local governments. "It's very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine," Reid argued. "It's the public-sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation is all about."

This is the President's and the Majority Leader's solution to the jobs crisis: more so-called stimulus and more government employees.

As Heritage's James Sherk has explained, this thinking is completely backwards: "If the recession has barely touched one sector of the economy, it is government."

If anyone is "doing fine," it's government employees. This goes beyond the far more generous pension and health benefits they enjoy. While the private sector lost 4.6 million jobs (a 3.9 percent drop) since the recession began, government payrolls have only fallen by 240,000 jobs (a 1.1 percent drop). Federal employment has actually grown nearly 12 percent since the end of 2007, and while the country suffers from 8.2 percent unemployment, the unemployment rate for government employees is just 4.2 percent.

In any case, the federal government borrowing more money to transfer to state and local governments is not a job-creation policy, and it is outside the scope of the federal government. It's merely a ploy to please union bosses, who are always eager to draw more federal dollars.

This government-boosting strategy also ignores the fact that it has been tried before and found wanting. President Obama's first trillion-dollar stimulus plan was a failure (and a waste). And Europe is in the shape it is because of years of government largesse. Ironically President Obama sought to focus the media's attention on Europe on Friday in an attempt to divert it from his own economic mismanagement.

We cannot avoid a European-style fiscal crisis by emulating Europe's philosophy of government-centered economies and overspending.

But the President doesn't understand the function of the private sector-creating and producing-so he is compelled to separate it from the rest of his reality. The private sector is indeed a bit of an alien place to this president , according to his accounting. He wrote in his autobiography Dreams from My Father about finding "conventional work" to pay the bills until he could land his dream job of community organizer. He was determined to remain in the private sector only briefly: "Like a spy behind enemy lines, I arrived every day at my mid-Manhattan office and sat at my computer terminal."

Following a flurry of outrage over his Friday comment, the President backtracked, saying what he meant was that "we've actually seen some good momentum in the private sector. That has not been the biggest drag on the economy."

Moving from 8.1 percent unemployment to 8.2 percent can only be considered "good momentum" in this White House. However, he's correct about one thing: The biggest drag on the economy isn't the private sector, but Washington.

Job creators in the private sector are paralyzed, suffering from overregulation and waiting for Taxmageddon to hit in January. The longer Congress waits to prevent Taxmageddon, the more uncertainty there will be for businesses.

Of course, if the President's goal is to add more government employees, then he wouldn't be as worried about the impact of these taxes and regulations on the private sector, which is "doing fine."

In Dreams from My Father, Obama excused his temporary need to make money from a private-sector job while seeking his destiny as a community organizer: "I would need the money later, I told myself. Organizers didn't make any money; their poverty was proof of their integrity."

If poverty is proof of integrity, then the President seems determined to make saints of us all.

Heritage Action for America Why We Fight

Senate Farm Bill Harvests Taxpayers

Right now, your United States Senators are working to reauthorize the farm bill - a Depression-era spending bill that expands and extends taxpayer subsidies to farmers, maintains the bloated food stamp program and continues market distorting mandates and subsidies on green energy programs.

The 1,009-page bill will cost taxpayers $969 billion over the next ten years. It claims to save money by replacing direct payments to farmers with a new crop insurance program called shallow-loss, which by some estimates will actually cost taxpayers far more!

>> See why the farm bill is bad news for taxpayers.

It is typical Washington: say one thing and then do another. The new shallow-loss program will further distort the free market and result in a 90% revenue guarantee to farmers. What other industry in America receives such a lucrative guarantee?

None.

Additionally, the bill fails to curb spending on the food stamp program. Spending on this program has doubled following President Obama's failed-stimulus, going from $39 billion in 2008 to $80 billion in 2012.

>> Get the facts: learn how the farm bill distorts the market and promotes government dependence.

Too many Senators are simply fighting over how to slice up the taxpayer pie, as opposed to pursuing real reforms. They need to hear from you that the key to success for Americans - including farmers - is to provide real, market-based reforms, not a continuation of past policies that lead to government dependence.

Thank you for standing with us as we fight to limit the government's hold on the free market.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Needham
Chief Executive Officer

For the Record

Clueless: 'The private sector is doing fine.'

This, of course, was news to the 12.7 million people who are out of work and the millions more who are struggling with the part-time jobs they can find, or have simply given up looking. This is actually a consistent talking point of the President and Democratic leadership that goes largely unchallenged by the media. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) made the same case last fall when he was pushing a $35 billion bailout for state and local governments. Post your opinion: Is the private sector "doing fine"?

Political Futures

"Two weeks ago the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics dropped a bomb on the Presidential campaign of Barack Obama when it released data showing only 66,000 jobs had been created in May -- far below estimates -- and that the top-line unemployment rate rose from 8.1 to 8.2 percent. This past Friday at a press conference, in response to a question about the GOP's contention that it is his Administration's policies that are strangling job growth, President Obama said, 'the private sector is doing fine.' He went on to explain that the rise in unemployment is largely due to budget difficulties at the state and local government level because mayors and governors are not getting the 'kind of support they need from the federal government.' ... Which leads us to ask the question: What world was Obama describing? ... Obama's 'private sector is doing fine' gaffe was not the only problem he had last week. Bill Clinton -- who is supposed to be helping Obama -- said that those 'Bush-era' tax cuts should be extended for all Americans -- even the wealthiest, assumedly because the private sector is not doing fine. ... Clinton, after suffering that moment of clarity in thinking, walked back his comment on CNN's Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer saying he was mistaken in when the tax increase would hit. He thought they needed to be acted upon before the election, instead of before the end of the year. It is not clear to me why that makes any difference as to the tax rates' effect on stimulating or further stalling the economy, but there you are. 'The private sector is doing fine' might not be the determining gaffe in this campaign, but it does show that as far as Obama is concerned, the bloom is off the prose." --columnist Rich Galen

Insight

"The men and women of this country who toil are the ones who bear the cost of the government. Every dollar that we save means that their life will be so much the more abundant. Economy is idealism in its most practical form." -President Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

Government

"Consider why shrinking government is moral. The more the federal government provides for people, the more it deprives them not only of their dignity, but of one of the most sacred rights, penned by Thomas Jefferson: the right to pursue happiness. Why? Because fulfilling happiness comes from earned success, not from unearned handouts. Think about the person we all knew growing up whose parents spoiled him or her. Even if that person wasn't unhappy at the time (though chances are he or she was unhappy), it teaches that individual to expect handouts, which will likely result in an unhappy adulthood. ... Private charities are able to make distinctions between people who truly need help and those who do not, as well as between those who need material assistance and those who need moral refocus, personal counseling, relationship repair or spiritual commitment. ... Though well-intentioned, leftism's commitment to government undermines both the individual pursuit of happiness ... and private charity of families and communities who can best provide it to those experiencing hardship. Conservatism, on the other hand, is committed to both, and is precisely why moving the country to the right is moral." --Heritage Foundation's David Weinberger

Opinion in Brief

"Obama's calls for a new civility four years ago are apparently inoperative. ... Obama once called for a focus on issues rather than personal invective. But now we mysteriously hear again of Romney's dog, his great-great-grandfather's wives, and a roughhousing incident some 50 years ago in prep school. The 'hope and change' slogan for a new unity gave way to a new 'us versus them' divide. ... 'Romney would do worse,' rather than 'I did well,' is the implicit Obama campaign theme of 2012. To be re-elected, a now-polarizing Obama believes that he must stoke the fears of some of us rather than appeal to all of our hopes by defending a successful record, while smearing with the old politics rather than inspiring with the new. That cynical calculation and constant hedging and flip-flopping may be normal for politicians, but eventually it proves disastrous for the ones who posed as messianic prophets." --historian Victor Davis Hanson

Essential Liberty

"Nebraska's congressional delegation sent a justifiably angry letter to Administrator Lisa Jackson [recently] complaining that her Environmental Protection Agency had exceeded its legislative and constitutional authority by conducting drone surveillance flights over Nebraska and Iowa farms looking for violations of the Clean Water Act. ... America is awash in surveillance cameras, from red-light cameras at intersections to cameras in and outside businesses. For the most part, we tolerate their intrusiveness if the pictures are triggered by actual lawbreakers or are in a public place for legitimate security purposes where the expectation of privacy does not exist. But a drone flying over farmer Jones' farmhouse seems a stretch that sets a dangerous precedent. ... Under current guidelines, information gathered deliberately or accidentally by military drones over the U.S. can be kept by the military up to three months before being purged. They can also be turned over to 'another Department of Defense or government agency to whose function it pertains.' ... 'Our Founding Fathers had no idea that there would be remote-control drones with television monitors that can feed back live data instantaneously -- but if they had, they would have made darn sure that these things were subject to the Fourth Amendment...,' Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, told Fox News. It's been said that those who sacrifice liberty for the sake of security will likely wind up with neither." --Investor's Business Daily

Re: The Left

"While most of the mainstream media focused their attention on Wisconsin and Scott Walker's victory Tuesday night, an equally, if not more significant vote occurred in two California cities. Voters in San Diego and San Jose overwhelmingly approved cuts to retirement benefits for city workers. ... Progressives and their enablers have consoled themselves with the idea that, in both Wisconsin and California, being decisively outspent is what led to their defeat. But this is a misleading claim. The reality is that the wages earned by union political operatives don't get counted as funds being spent on a campaign. Yet even if unions were thoroughly outspent, that is hardly a comforting rationale: it means more and more Americans are fed up with government employee unions and are willing to spend money to say so. ... In the ultimate progressive stronghold of California, where unions have run roughshod over the interests of taxpayers for decades, vote totals such as these, aimed at curtailing their power, are unprecedented. In other words, something truly profound has occurred. All of the so-called current wisdom regarding government unions and their ability to sway politicians with massive campaign contributions and/or thuggish tactics is no longer current. In the space of a single evening, the aura of invincibility government unions have long enjoyed has been irreparably damaged. It's as simple as taxpayers beginning to realize that government should provide services to all of its constituents, not just the privileged few -- who have long viewed those privileges as entitlements or rights." --columnist Arnold Ahlert

The Gipper

"I'm sure everyone feels sorry for the individual who has fallen by the wayside or who can't keep up in our competitive society, but my own compassion goes beyond that to the millions of unsung men and women who get up every morning, send the kids to school, go to work, try and keep up the payments on their house, pay exorbitant taxes to make possible compassion for the less fortunate, and as a result have to sacrifice many of their own desires and dreams and hopes. Government owes them something better than always finding a new way to make them share the fruit of their toils with others." --Ronald Reagan

Culture

"The Manhattan Institute's Heather Mac Donald notes that sinecures in academia's diversity industry are expanding as academic offerings contract. UC San Diego, while eliminating master's programs in electrical and computer engineering and comparative literature, and eliminating courses in French, German, Spanish and English literature, added a diversity requirement for graduation to cultivate 'a student's understanding of her or his identity.' So, rather than study computer science and Cervantes, students can study their identities -- themselves. Says Mac Donald, '"Diversity," it turns out, is simply a code word for narcissism.' She reports that UCSD lost three cancer researchers to Rice University, which offered them 40 percent pay increases. But UCSD found money to create a Vice Chancellorship for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. UC Davis has a Diversity Trainers Institute under an Administrator of Diversity Education, who presumably coordinates with the Cross-Cultural Center. It also has: a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center; a Sexual Harassment Education Program; a Diversity Program Coordinator; an Early Resolution Discrimination Coordinator; a Diversity Education Series that awards Understanding Diversity Certificates in 'Unpacking Oppression'; and Cross-Cultural Competency Certificates in 'Understanding Diversity and Social Justice.' ... So taxpayers should pay more and parents and students should borrow more to fund administrative sprawl in the service of stale political agendas? Perhaps they will, until 'pop!' goes the bubble." --columnist George Will

Reader Comments

"What should be done to get the economy moving again? Eliminate all government agencies which have no direct authorization in the Constitution. Convoluted reasoning which has no direct authorization is NOT acceptable. This would automatically remove all agencies that conflict with those agencies in the individual states. As the state agencies are closer to the problems, they are the ones that should solve the problem." --Chuck in NV

"If the government would just get out of the way and cut regulations instead of increasing regulations the economy would fix itself. It always does. Everything goes in cycles and the more the government gets involved the longer it takes." --The Donald in Yucaipa, CA

"Regarding President O's 153 fundraising events since announcing his candidacy for reelection: WHO PAYS for Air Force One taking him all over the country, for the lodging and food, for the staff that it takes to support him in the manner he thinks he deserves? Is it the DNC, his re-election committee, or, perish the thought, we humble taxpayers?" --Brad in Minneapolis

"Congratulations to the intelligent people of Wisconsin on supporting Gov. Scott Walker. Really proud of you for having the courage to take a stand against the 'out of control' unions. The rest of our country should look to the great people of Wisconsin and the model you have set for the rest of us." --CRG in San Marcos, CA

The Last Word

"The huge gap between the young and their elders can be seen in the way they respond to Obamian rhetoric. For instance, generations of Americans understood that the American Dream translated to people of different races and religions having an equal opportunity to achieve everything and anything they were willing to work for, no matter what was required of them in terms of study, honest effort and perseverance. But we now have Obama giving a speech in which he refers to the American Promise. Who the heck is he to promise results? Who is he to tell anyone they will be successful, even if they're as dumb as doornails and as lazy as mules? Since when is success in America a guaranteed entitlement? We used to speak about equal playing fields, but only a socialist would dare promise equal results, and only a bunch of young slackers would applaud him. There are exceptions to the rule. They are mainly to be found in the U.S. military. They understand the meaning of such words as patriotism, sacrifice and responsibility, unlike their civilian cousins who can't even spell those words." --columnist Burt Prelustky

For a brilliant guy he sure says a lot of stupid things. Obama's latest gaffe was so bad that even Candy Crowley was hammering David Axelrod on it. Obama claimed that the private sector was doing just fine and basically he already fixed that - it was just state & local governments that are struggling. Hear Crowley go after Axelrod and check out Glenn's dismantling of Obama's contention HERE.

Tonight on GBTV (Watch live or on demand)

  • 5pm - The Glenn Beck Program: Why is the Fed the ultimate scam in America today? Glenn has the convincing evidence tonight plus interviews with economic experts who explain why the Spain bailout is destined for failure.
  • 6pm - Real News: For the 4th time in 30 years Congress has launched a contempt action against a member of the executive branch. If approved it will likely move to the House for a vote. What is the likelihood Attorney General Holder is found in contempt and what happens if he is?

Offended: Obama cries foul on question about national security leaks
The President proved he is easily offended on Friday when he snapped back at a reporter who insinuated national security leaks might be coming from inside the White House. Considering how vital the President's national security record is for his re-election effort, the question wasn't that off base. The President's blatant refusal to face the facts has once again landed him on Glenn's coward list.

Compassion fatigue?
Why are bans popping up in city after city that make it illegal for people to feed the homeless? Why should feeding a hungry person ever be illegal? USA Today has an article suggesting that it's compassion fatigue and that cities are just tired of the homeless ruining their downtown areas with their presence. MORE

Ron Paul supporters rip son Rand for Romney endorsement
Sellout. Traitor. Cancer. Those are some pretty harsh insults even for the heated political climate of an election year, and usually such epithets would be reserved for a Benedict Arnold. But those were just some of the words being directed at Kentucky Senator Rand Paul for endorsing GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney - shockingly not from the left but from the libertarians that devoutly follow Rand's father Ron Paul.

Rick Santorum's not going anywhere
Rick Santorum surprised many with his strong showing in the GOP primary, but in the end it just wasn't enough to overcome the efforts of Mitt Romney. But is Santorum content to have his message fade into the background and go away? Not even close - Glenn talked with the former Senator on radio today about what the future holds.

Stu Gets Hatemail: Stu gets his first piece of hatemail...or does he? Pat and Stu track down Gary from Florida to explain why he thought it was absolutely necessary to tell Stu that he is annoying. After getting Gary on the phone, the call takes an unexpected twist.

The 4th Hour: Green Jobs classification scam
The government has classified any job that is remotely energy efficient as a green job. Their list is ridiculous and expansive (did you know bus drivers and oil lobbyists are considered green jobs?) , but somehow Pat and Stu have managed to add to this list of potential "green jobs." Watch on the 4th Hour.

Aw, poor George Soros: Glenn inks new deal with radio syndicator!
