New documents shed new light on his ties to a leftist party in the 1990s.

On the evening of January 11, 1996, while Mitt Romney was in the final years of his run as the head of Bain Capital , Barack Obama formally joined the New Party, which was deeply hostile to the mainstream of the Democratic party and even to American capitalism. In 2008, candidate Obama deceived the American public about his potentially damaging tie to this third party. The issue remains as fresh as today's headlines, as Romney argues that Obama is trying to move the United States toward European-style social democracy, which was precisely the New Party's goal.
In late October 2008, when I wrote here at National Review Online that Obama had been a member of the New Party, his campaign sharply denied it, calling my claim a "crackpot smear." Fight the Smears, an official Obama-campaign website, staunchly maintained that "Barack has been a member of only one political party, the Democratic Party." I rebutted this, but the debate was never taken up by the mainstream press.
Recently obtained evidence from the updated records of Illinois ACORN at the Wisconsin Historical Society now definitively establishes that Obama was a member of the New Party. He also signed a "contract" promising to publicly support and associate himself with the New Party while in office.
A moral crisis tends to go hand in hand with an identity crisis. It's when you don't know who you are that you're most likely to take refuge in a political or ethical identity that provides you with the comfort of a false sense of superiority. When all other identities fall apart, you can always rely on being the better man, the better nation and the empty space with the moral high ground.
Societies that go multicultural tend to experience identity drift and take refuge in a self-definition based on values. Who are Americans? As generations of presidents on the left and right have told us, they are people who believe in American values. What are American values? They're the values that Americans are told they need to believe in, in order to be Americans. Like tolerance, immigration, free trade, and respecting the right of anyone to be a member of the Communist Party or the Muslim Brotherhood.
In a time of crisis, nations and peoples have to choose to survive. But what is survival? Proponents of a values-based identity have argued that survival means the survival of our values. If we take Measure X against an enemy, whether it's outlawing the Communist Party or waterboarding Islamic terrorists, then we have "killed our values" and we are no longer Americans. It doesn't matter then whether an act saves millions of American lives, if it means we destroy our values, then we have killed the only worthwhile thing about us.
Physical identity and values-based identity are in conflict in a time of crisis when the question is asked, do we want to survive or do we want to be morally pure. A values-based identity appears to be superior, but it is actually the product of an identity crisis. And a nation or a people with an identity crisis is vulnerable because they no longer know who they are. Their identity has been replaced with an identity based on their superior values, values that require them to die rather than give up those values. And if they have forgotten who they are, then they are too afraid to risk their values-based identity by fighting back.
Last night, Glenn focused on the importance of commitment. He was the first to admit, a lot of last night's show was something you had heard before - but it's important to start at the beginning and to make sure you know what you believe before you get put into action. And tonight, Glenn revealed ways for you to really get moving!

And if you think it doesn't matter just take a look at what is happening right now in Wisconsin. Progressives and unions are doing everything they can to make sure that Walker loses. Obamacare's Medical-Device Tax Kills Patients, Not Just Jobs

My colleague Robert Book has written a compelling analysis of Obamacare's medical-device tax, which concludes that it will destroy about 14,000 and perhaps up to 47,100 jobs. The 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices is a savage blow to innovation. Note that this tax is on sales, not profits. It cuts into the top line, not the bottom line. If not repealed, this tax will start hitting medical-device makers on January 1, 2013.
Another colleague, Benjamin Zycher, has come at the tax from a different angle: In an analysis that concludes that the tax will lead to a reduction in research and development by about $2 billion every year, Zycher estimates how many patients will suffer early deaths because of the throttling of innovation.
Reviewing peer-reviewed literature on the relationship between medical technology and improvements in life expectancies, Zycher estimates that the knock-on effect of the tax will be about one million life-years lost annually. (Due to limitations in applying the literature, it not possible to tell the degree to which this tilts towards one million people dying one year earlier, or a smaller number of people dying many years earlier. My own interpretation leans towards the latter.)
White House threatens to veto House GOP bill repealing tax on medical devices

WASHINGTON - White House officials threatened a veto Wednesday of a Republican bill that would repeal a tax on the makers of many medical devices sold in the U.S., in the latest partisan clash over President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.
GOP leaders plan to push the legislation through the House on Thursday in what amounts to a symbolic vote. The Senate's Democratic leaders have no plans to even consider the measure in that chamber, and it would have virtually no chance of passage there anyway.
MoveOn.org just sent out an email advising all their followers to call Governor Scott, because "We have just 24 hours to make sure Governor Rick Scott stops his all-out assault on Florida's Latino voters." Now, not only will Governor Scott's email inbox be full of MoveOn generated emails, his phone will be ringing off the wall with callers telling him to abandon his efforts and allow Florida's rolls to remain bloated beyond recognition.
The Department of Justice has ORDERED Florida NOT to remove non-citizens from the state's voter rolls. Yes, you read that right - and you can read more sordid details here and here.
Florida's Governor, Secretary of State, and Local Supervisors of Elections are now facing enormous pressure from the Federal government, so it is incredibly important that they hear from citizens across the country, encouraging them to stand strong.

Tom Smith's background is a common one in Pennsylvania and across the country, but one that is all too rare in the United States Senate-which may explain a great deal about how our country came to this point in our history.
Tom still lives on the farm in Armstrong County where he grew up. After graduating from Elderton High School in 1965, he postponed college to help his father tend that farm and supplemented his income by driving a school bus. Before too long, Tom had married his high school sweetheart, Saundy, started a family, and went to work in a local surface coal mine.
In 1989, Tom entered the coal business himself, mortgaging everything he had in the hope that he could build a better life for himself and his family. He succeeded, building a series of companies in a highly regulated industry through some tough economic times. When he sold the companies in 2010, they were mining more than a million tons of coal a year and employed over one-hundred people.

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

As you can see, it is a flat out lie that the left was outspent 7 to 1 in Wisconsin. In fact, considering the money unions spent on things like "voter education", which are not even tabulated as political activity, the unions probably outspent everyone. We don't know because they don't exactly have to disclose it all right now.
But the more important question is "why?" Why did the left immediately seize on this idea that they lost because they were outspent.
This week, America saw what real hope and change actually looks like. The Wisconsin recall fight wasn't about Republicans and Democrats. It wasn't about Obama. It was about the power of the majority of taxpayers who stood up against being fleeced by the very public employee union bosses who have put them on the hook for trillions of debt. Beginning fifteen months ago and culminating with the recall victory, the conservative movement struck back in Wisconsin and redefined the national fight for America's future. Now is not a time for celebration. It's time to take the fight to the next level.

If you remember the 2008 elections, you might remember a somewhat cruel, if clever, tactic that the Obama campaign would use: their habit of deliberately delaying sometimes announcing just how much money they raised in a given month. You see, it was a truism that, if you chose to wait until the last minute to file the fundraising report, it meant that the numbers were bad, or not as good as they could have been. So Obama for America would not announce their numbers right away, causing speculation that said numbers were off - and then get more buzz when it turned out that they had done well anyway.
Colorado Democratic Party spokesman Matt Inzeo refuses to answer whether he voted in the March party caucuses earlier this year despite repeated requests from Media Trackers via phone, e-mail, and Twitter.
As previously reported by Media Trackers Colorado, Inzeo waited nearly a year after being hired by the state party to register to vote in Colorado. More important, Inzeo registered to vote a mere five days before the party's March caucuses. His outright refusal to answer whether he voted in the caucus raises serious questions about voter fraud since state law explicitly prohibits individuals who have been registered to vote for less than two months from voting in a party caucus.

As then first-term US Senator Barack Obama campaigned for the presidency, one of the pledges he made to the American public - and the world - was that an Obama presidency would repair the reputation of the United States with the nations of the world. Mr. Obama vowed to "reject the counsel that says the American people would rather have someone who is strong and wrong than someone who is weak and right," as he outlined a list of actions he would take to mend what he perceived to be America's deprecated stature in the international community. Today, as we approach the end of President Obama's term, it can be argued, that not only has America's credibility with those who quest for freedom been tarnished but our stature in the world has been diminished.
The recall election of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was a critical bellwether. A Walker loss would have guaranteed more ruinous, out-of-control government spending, where unions and their vested interests dictate terms through violence, thuggery and deceit. But the Wisconsin electorate rejected that path, handing Walker a resounding victory. This will embolden leaders in other states to tackle similar problems head on.
About a week after President Obama gave a Medal of Freedom to Dolores Huerta, the honorary chair of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the Associated Press (AP) wire service ran a story casting doubt on the claim that Obama himself was a socialist. This is the same news organization which in 2008 carried a story that failied to mention the smoking-gun evidence that Obama's childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a Communist Party member.
The issue of global warming continues to be a fault line in this country and across the world. There are, on the one hand, those who believe, like Al Gore, that the earth is warming to a catastrophic degree, that it is caused by man's overuse of carbon-based energy, and if we don't hurry and do something about it we will face the melting of glaciers and ice sheets, biblical flooding, and increased tornadoes and hurricanes. Their holy grail is the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which they cite as confirmation of their theories.

One of CAIR's top agenda items is to make sure that Sharia law is not banned in America. CAIR's March 1, 2012 press release stated they are opposing legislation in twenty states which seeks to ban courts from recognizing Sharia law. Sharia law is hostile to many American policies which protect life and human rights. Sharia law advocates physical acts of submission toward women (wives, daughters, sisters), polygamy, female body mutilation, pedophilia, marital rape, honor killing and the imprisonment and/or execution of blasphemers and infidels especially Christians and Jews.
News9.com reports "Former CIA Director James Woolsey told a group in Oklahoma City that CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is an extremist Muslim group with ties to terrorists. Woolsey said CAIR, once called "The Islamic Organization of Palestine", is named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the federal case U.S. vs. the Holy Land Foundation which "is the biggest terrorist financing case of all time."
From the then Florida CAIR director Ahmed Bedier defending convicted terrorist fundraiser Sami Al-Arian and convicted bomb maker Ahmed Mohamed to Hassan Shibly defending Islamic cleric Khalid Yasin CAIR's leaders routinely express their strong support for extremists who threaten our way of life.
So Best Buy is taking part of the money you the consumer spends at their stores and is giving it to CAIR whose agenda includes protecting Sharia law in America and defending terrorists throughout the world.

WASHINGTON - Eight Muslims filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday in New Jersey to force the New York Police Department to end its surveillance and other intelligence-gathering practices targeting Muslims in the years after the 2001 terrorist attacks. The lawsuit alleged that the police activities were unconstitutional because they focused on people's religion, national origin and race.
It is the first lawsuit to directly challenge the NYPD's surveillance programs, which were the subject of an investigative series by The Associated Press since last year. Based on internal NYPD reports and interviews with officials involved in the programs, the AP reported that the NYPD conducted wholesale surveillance of entire Muslim neighborhoods, chronicling daily life including where people ate, prayed and got their hair cut. Police infiltrated dozens of mosques and Muslim student groups and investigated hundreds more.
Syed Farhaj Hassan, one of the plaintiffs, stopped attending one mosque as often after he learned it was one of four where he worships that were included in NYPD files. Those mosques were located along the East Coast from central Connecticut to the Philadelphia suburbs, but none was linked to terrorism, either publicly or in the confidential NYPD documents.
Hassan, an Army reservist from a small town outside of New Brunswick, N.J., said he was concerned that anything linking his life to potential terrorism would hurt his military security clearance.
"Guilt by association was forced on me," Hassan said.
The NYPD did not respond to questions about the lawsuit but noted the New Jersey attorney general determined last month that NYPD activities in New Jersey were legal.
NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly has said his department is obligated to do this type of surveillance in order to protect New York from another 9/11. Kelly has said the 2001 attacks proved that New Yorkers could not rely solely on the federal government for protection, and the NYPD needed to enhance its efforts.
Because of redistricting, Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) is running for re-election today against a fellow Democratic incumbent congressman. Pascrell's slogan: "100% New Jersey Fighter."
Given his troubling associations with Muslim figures who have espoused fiery anti-Israel rhetoric and turned a blind eye to Hamas sympathizers, though, it's hard to tell against whom he's actually fighting.
Take, for example, one of Pascrell's closest allies for at least a decade: Mohamed El Filali, who is an executive with a local mosque whose founding imam is in jail on terrorism charges and whose current imam is fighting deportation on terror-related grounds.
El Filali leads what could seem like a strange existence, leading grotesque rallies by day and then cozying up at night with congressmen - or at least one congressman in particular, Bill Pascrell.
In April 2002, for example, El Filali led hundreds of followers at an event in cheers equating the Jewish state with the Nazis. According to the New York Times, El Filali was the emcee at the rally when he led the chant of "Sharon, Hitler are the same. Only difference is the name."
That night, he was at an Arab-American fundraiser attended by over 250 people for Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ). El Filali has donated thousands of dollars to Pascrell over the years, including $1,500 in the past year alone.
Rep. Pascrell, who was not available for an interview for this story, has a long history of support from local Muslim figures who have made fiery anti-Israel comments and has aligned himself very closely with the American Muslim Union, a New Jersey-based political organization that has called for an end to U.S. aid to Israel and whose leadership has included people who have justified Hamas terrorism, accepting thousands in contributions from the group's president and routinely attending the organization's annual gathering.

In the wake of the Arab Spring, U.S. leaders have promised to reverse the United States' long reliance on autocratic, unrepresentative leaders who enrich themselves at the expense of their citizens. There's only one problem: Just as top American officials have been making these lofty promises, new details are emerging of how close family members of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, a major U.S. partner in the Middle East, have grown wealthy. Have they enriched themselves at the expense of regular Palestinians -- and even U.S. taxpayers?
Abbas's wealth recently became a source of controversy during the investigation of Mohammed Rachid, an economic advisor to the late Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat, in a high-profile corruption probe. Last month, Palestinian officials charged Rachid with siphoning off millions of dollars in public funds; his trial is set to begin on June 7.
According to a former Palestinian advisor, Abbas holds a grudge against Rachid dating back to the peace talks during the waning days of the Clinton era. In that intense period, Rachid was an advocate of working with Israel to find a solution, while Abbas called diplomacya "trap that was laid for us." Abbas also resented Rachid because he was an Iraqi Kurd -- not even a Palestinian -- who had gained Arafat's trust and was part of his inner circle, while Abbas was on the outside looking in. "There was a huge amount of jealousy," the former advisor said.
With his back up against a wall, Rachid has now fired back at the Palestinian president with claims that Abbas himself has socked away $100 million in ill-gotten gains.

Last year CAIR was instrumental in complaining loud enough to get ANTI-ISLAM conferences with top speakers like Nonie Darwish and others kicked out of similar venues -- large hotels, etc. They had to either cancel or scramble to find alternative locations. One moved to a large church...in Nashville, TN, I think.

I urge each of you to either call, email, and if you know anyone who lives nearby or knows anyone who might frequent this hotel, to also contact this hotel and lodge complaints....let them know you do not approve of this type of event happening in America. I'm writing to lodge a strong complaint against The Meadows Club for hosting the so-called "Khilafah Conference." Groups just like this, under the guidance of Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) have halted free speech, forced anti-Islam conferences to relocate at the last moment.
I urge managers/owners of The Meadows Club to pay attention to the mission of Hizb ut-Tahrir:

Tuesday night the Democrats' media cheerleaders deluded themselves with "happy face" exit polls showing the unions could very well recall Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker. They especially liked the additional numbers showing Obama up 11 points over What's His Name. Then real numbers started to come in and the Democrats' world collapsed.
Keep in mind the REAL vote showed Scott Walker winning by 53/46.
During the day exit polls showed the race a toss up at 50/50. They also showed Walker up 13 points with men and his Democrat challenger Tom Barrett up by 12 with women.

On the heels of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Cold Case Posse's investigative trip to Hawaii, CNN reporter Gary Tuchman declared his intention to refute conclusively the contention Obama's birth certificate is fraudulent.
So, how did he do?
Well, if replaying old interviews and showing a microfilm of someone else's birth certificate and misrepresenting it as Barack Obama's counts as cutting edge journalism at CNN, he did great.
Of course, CNN's standards of journalism might have something to do with the network's plunging ratings ...

Clinton Goes Rogue
I devoted yesterday's report to Scott Walker's stunning win, but there were other headlines Tuesday that are worth visiting. Let's start with Bill Clinton, whose off-the-cuff remarks lately have caused great anger at the White House.
Several days ago Clinton praised Mitt Romney's "sterling record" at Bain Capital. Then, in an interview with CNBC, he said that the country had slipped back into a recession and that the Bush tax cuts should be renewed!
I watched the interview and was astonished. The former Democrat president was making Mitt Romney's case that Obama's economic policies have failed and we should not raise taxes in bad economic times! I can only imagine the reaction at the White House and at the Obama campaign headquarters in Chicago, where they are desperately trying to convince Americans that we are in a recovery.
I know the former president has endorsed Barack Obama, but as Charles Krauthammer suggested this week, he seems to be acting like a double agent for Mitt Romney. Perhaps Krauthammer is right.
Monday night, Dick Morris said on Sean Hannity's show, "Bill Clinton does not want Barack Obama to win. I've spoken to several good friends who are staunch conservatives who have had a lot of exchanges with Bill Clinton in private. And at one point, one of them quotes [Clinton] as saying, 'You have six months to save the country.'"
Bill Clinton may be misspeaking or he may still be bitter about Hillary's 2008 loss. Whatever his motivations, I agree with him that we have six months to save the country. America cannot afford another four more years of Barack Obama!
Plug The Leaks Now!
One of the most infuriating problems in Washington, D.C., is the inability to prevent secrets from being leaked. When it comes to national security some information must be held from the public because it often involves matters of life and death. And sadly there have been a lot of leaks involving national security.
Two weeks ago, Rep. Peter King (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, blasted the Obama White House for potentially exposing classified information to Hollywood filmmakers who were producing a movie about the Osama bin Laden raid. You may recall that the movie was originally going to be released in October -- before the election. Administration officials seemed unusually eager to provide the film makers with all kinds of access to information and personnel.
Last week the New York Times, citing current U.S. officials, exposed U.S. involvement in the production of the computer virus that was used to launch a cyber-attack against Iran's nuclear weapons program. The Times report also referenced conversations that President Obama had with top advisors. And then there was a story about how Barack Obama was personally approving targets for drone strikes.
Just like the exposure of classified information for the Obama -- I mean -- Osama movie, the leaks about our cyber-warfare capabilities and drone attacks seem politically motivated in order to bolster Obama's image with pro-Israel and Jewish voters as a tough commander-in-chief. I'm not a psychologist, but it has been my experience that people who feel a need to brag are compensating for other deficiencies.
Lest you think I'm merely being partisan, Senate Democrats are furious as well. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters, "This is like an avalanche. It is very detrimental and, candidly, I found it very concerning. There's no question that this kind of thing hurts our country." And that is coming from a liberal.
Senator John Kerry (D-MA), chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, said, "A number of those leaks, and others in the last months about drone activities and other activities, are frankly all against national-security interests. I think they're dangerous, damaging, and whoever is doing that is not acting in the interest of the United States of America."
Senator John McCain went even further, telling CBS yesterday, "This is the most highly classified information and it's now been leaked by the administration at the highest levels at the White House and that's not acceptable."
McCain has promised that the Senate Armed Services Committee would investigate the leaks, and he even called for a probe by a special prosecutor.
But perhaps the best clue as to the source of the leaks comes from a key White House ally -- the New York Times itself. In an article on Obama's weekly "kill list" meetings, the Times devulged that David Axelrod, the President's top political operative, attended the weekend meetings on terror.
Why is the president "closest political adviser" sitting in on such meetings? Is there anything in this Administration that isn't exploited for political gain?
Standing With Israel
Yesterday I had the honor of speaking to a Jerusalem Day event on Capitol Hill, attended by members of Congress, Jewish and Christian leaders and pro-Israel activists. The focus of my remarks was the need for America to stand with Israel by moving the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.
This is a very bizarre situation that many Americans aren't even aware of. But the American embassy in Israel is not in Israel's capital. It is in Tel Aviv. Can you imagine the U.S. embassy in England being in Manchester and not London? Or if the U.S. embassy in France was in Toulon and not Paris? It is offensive, and bolsters unreasonable Palestinian claims to the city of David.
In 1995, the first Republican Congress in decades passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act by overwhelmingly margins, mandating that the embassy be moved to Jerusalem. Unfortunately, the bill included language allowing the president to waive the mandate for national security concerns. Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have routinely invoked this waiver.
Last March, Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) introduced the Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act of 2011 to eliminate the president's waiver authority. Burton's bill has 59 co-sponsors and the Senate companion bill has five.
Pastor Stands For Marriage
Kudos to Reverend Keith Ratliff, Sr., of the Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Reverend Ratliff was a national board member of the NAACP and the State Conference president for the Iowa/Nebraska NAACP. But yesterday he resigned over the NAACP's endorsement of same-sex "marriage."
I suspect that was a difficult decision for Reverend Ratliff, and I commend him for taking such a principled stand that put faith ahead of politics. As these interviews of black pastors demonstrate, Reverend Ratliff is not alone. I pray more pastors will follow his example, and that of Catholic leaders, and speak out boldly in defense of faith, family and freedom.

Definition of Marriage Headed to the Supreme Court by Ryan T. Anderson
Announcements this week and last week from the First and Ninth Circuit Courts have set the stage for the Supreme Court to weigh in concerning the central institution that has ordered society since before the advent of modern states: marriage.
Massachusetts v. HHS and Perry v. Brown represent two sides of the same activist coin in attempts to redefine marriage through the courts. This process strips power from citizens and the elected branches of government at both the state and federal levels to determine a question not directly addressed in the text of the United States Constitution, because the meaning of marriage was assumed.
As my co-authors and I recently explained, the current debate is not about who can marry, but about what marriage is. This question should not be answered by unelected and electorally unaccountable judges, but by citizens and their elected representatives.
May was a busy month for the marriage debate. On May 8, citizens of North Carolina voted by an overwhelming majority (61 percent to 39 percent) to constitutionally define marriage as the union of a man and woman. A few days before that vote, Vice President Joe Biden expressed support for same-sex marriage, so it came as no surprise when, a day after North Carolina's vote, President Barack Obama announced his full "evolution" to support same-sex marriage.
Then late last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit struck down as unconstitutional the portion of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defining marriage for federal purposes as the union of a man and woman in Massachusetts v. HHS. DOMA was signed into law in 1996 by President Bill Clinton after passing Congress by large majorities in both houses (342-67 House, 85-14 Senate).
The First Circuit stayed its ruling pending a likely appeal to the Supreme Court, so DOMA remains in effect for the time being. If the case does reach the Court as anticipated, a decision is possible by this time next year. DOMA is also being contested in several other federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit, the Southern District of New York, and the District Court of Connecticut.
At the same time, Perry v. Brown, the case challenging the constitutionality of California's amendment defining marriage as the union of a man and woman, known as Proposition 8, remains pending in the federal courts, where defenders of the law had asked for a rehearing by the full Ninth Circuit panel. The court announced on Tuesday that it will not reconsider the case, thus upholding the lower court and circuit court panel's prior decisions invalidating Prop 8 as unconstitutional. Like DOMA, Prop 8 remains in effect pending a trip to the high Court. (Several other cases challenging the validity of state marriage laws are at preliminary stages in Nevada, Hawaii, and Illinois.)
This should remind us of important truths: Marriage exists to bring together a man and woman as husband and wife, to become father and mother to any children their union brings forth. This union of sexually complementary spouses, valuable in itself, is naturally oriented to and fulfilled in childbearing and rearing, and is rightly governed by norms of monogamy, sexual exclusivity, and permanence. The state takes an interest in marriage because children are highly needy and dependent, and marriage provides them with the best chance in life to be loved and cared for by their mother and father-mothering and fathering being two distinct, complementary, and critically important forms of "parenting."
The law will either reflect this truth about marriage or promote a falsehood-that marriage is essentially an emotional bond. Such a view can't possibly explain in principle or support in practice the marital norms of monogamy, exclusivity, and permanence, or explain why the state is in the marriage business in the first place. Settling this question is a job for citizens and their elected representatives, not a usurping court.

The world economy is in trouble, and governments are making things worse. Here's the story, right out of the pages of the 2012 Index of Economic Freedom, published by the Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal:
"Rapid expansion of government, more than any market factor, appears to be responsible for flagging economic dynamism. Government spending has not only failed to arrest the economic crisis, but also-in many countries-seems to be prolonging it. The big-government approach has led to bloated public debt, turning an economic slowdown into a fiscal crisis with economic stagnation fueling long-term unemployment."
The new index documents a world in which economic freedom is contracting, hammered by excessive government regulations and stimulus spending that seems only to line the pockets of the politically well-connected.
The Index of Economic Freedom has recorded a step back over the last year for the world as a whole. It was only a small step, with average scores declining less than a point, but the consequences have been severe: slower growth, fiscal and debt crises, and high unemployment. The biggest losers have been the economies in North America and Europe, regions that have led the world in economic freedom over the years.
The 2012 results show the torch of leadership in advancing freedom passing to other regions. Whether this is a long-term trend remains to be seen, but it is clear that if America and Europe do not soon regain trust in the principles of economic freedom on which their historical successes have been built, their people, and perhaps those of the world as a whole, are in for dark days ahead.
In anticipation of the Supreme Court's Obamacare decision, it is important to remember that the constitutionality of the individual mandate isn't the only problem with the law. Here's a list of Obamacare's five most destructive impacts on America's seniors.
Less choice. Obamacare puts 15 unelected bureaucrats in charge of meeting a budget target in Medicare with its newly created Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). IPAB may be statutorily prohibited from directly rationing care, but that doesn't mean it can't ration indirectly by reducing provider payments for certain medical procedures, which can compromise physician autonomy in the delivery of care.
Fewer options. Obamacare delivers a strong blow to Medicare Advantage (MA), which allows seniors to receive Medicare benefits from a private health plan of their choosing. Obamacare cuts the program by $145 billion, which, according to the Medicare Actuary, will decrease enrollment by 50 percent by 2017.
Higher taxes. In 2013, two new Obamacare taxes go into effect that will likely impact seniors: the 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices and the 3.8 percent tax on unearned of investment income. Not only do seniors rely heavily on medical devices, but, as Heritage expert Bob Moffit points out, "older people have larger investments than younger people, and thus high income older persons will be more heavily impacted by the new 3.8 percent Medicare tax imposed on unearned or investment income (effective 2013)."
Fewer doctors. As Moffit explains, "With the retirement of 77 million baby boomers beginning in 2011, the Medicare program will have to absorb an unprecedented demand for medical services." Obamacare exacerbates the issue for seniors by leaving the physician payment reduction schedule on the books and introducing more cuts to provider payments, which will make it even more difficult for Medicare doctors and other providers to serve the growing Medicare population.
Less access to care. Obamacare's irresponsible cuts to provider payments will cause 15 percent of Medicare Part A providers to become unprofitable within the next 10 years, according to the Medicare Actuary. As Medicare providers begin to operate at a loss, they will be unable to stay afloat, leaving seniors with less access to care.

Last week, Americans received more bad news on the country's economic performance. According to the latest Department of Labor jobs report, the U.S. economy created only 69,000 net jobs in May, and the unemployment rate increased to 8.2 percent. To add insult to injury, it was also reported that employers created 49,000 fewer jobs than originally estimated in March and April. Put it all together, and we see that the U.S. economy is approaching stall speed.
If Washington doesn't act, things could get much worse, not better. That's because of a massive $494 billion tax increase set to hit on January 1, 2013. Known as "Taxmageddon," the tax hike will be the result of the expiration of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, the termination of other tax policies, and the imposition of new taxes, such as those under Obamacare. Economists say that Taxmageddon will spell further doom for the U.S. economy, and this week, even former President Bill Clinton agreed that Washington should temporarily extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has said the House will vote on extending the tax policies before the November election, but President Barack Obama and Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) have so far ignored the pending crisis. Meanwhile, the economy is in limbo, waiting for Taxmageddon to strike.
On top of a massive tax burden, America is careening toward a European-style spending and debt crisis. Heritage's Alison Fraser explains:
The sad fact is that U.S. federal debt soon will reach economically damaging levels, and spending will be the driver of that explosion. The three major entitlements--Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid--will accelerate spending growth in the future due to demographic changes and rising health care costs. In 2012, they comprise approximately 45 percent of total federal spending, or 10 percent of GDP. By 2035, they will reach approximately 16.5 percent of GDP. Left alone, they will devour all tax revenues by 2045, assuming the historical level of taxation.
What's Washington doing about it? Conservative senators and representatives have put forward serious proposals to tackle the debt and spending crises, chief among them being Senator Mike Lee's (R-UT) budget, which mirrors the bold and thorough reforms The Heritage Foundation first proposed in its Saving the American Dreamplan. Though the House has passed a budget, the Senate has not passed one in 1,135 days. And as for the president's plan, the Senate voted it down 99 to nothing.
The dysfunction in the U.S. Senate has reached a new low under Majority Leader Reid, who is using tactics to rule with tyranny, restricting senators' rights to participate in debate and offer amendments. Heritage's Brian Darling explains in a new paper how this has impacted the political process:
Stripping Senators of the right to bring issues up for debate in the form of amendments has dramatically affected the national debate from entitlement reform to gun rights. If Senators are not allowed to offer amendments to bills, those issues are often never debated by the American people. When Members chose to filibuster bills to open legislation to a free amendment process, they are demonized by leadership and left-wing groups.
So while unemployed Americans suffer record joblessness, as families and businesses brace themselves for a massive tax increase, and as the United States heads toward a fiscal meltdown, some in Washington are unable or unwilling to take action to turn the country around. There are good and honorable leaders in our nation's capital who have proposed the kinds of policies needed to set America on the right track, yet there are others who prefer gridlock to action. Sadly, the business-as-usual gridlock in Washington is the mirror opposite of the action taken in places like Wisconsin's state house, and the American people are paying the price.

Reps. Mike Grimm, Loretta Sanchez, Kevin Yoder, Robert Dold, Devin Nunes, Russ Carnahan, and Jared Polis have introduced H.R. 5893, the Startup Act 2.0. This bill would create 50,000 new STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) work visas for foreign students who graduate from a U.S. college with a master's degree or a Ph.D each year. The foreign students automatically earn 1-year work visa upon graduation and earn an additional 4-years if they are "actively engaged" at the end of the first year. At the end of the 5 year period, the foreign workers will be able for legal permanent worker status.
The bill also creates a new visa program for 75,000 new immigrant "entrepreneurs" -- individuals who already hold an H-1B visa or a STEM degree would be allowed 4 years to remain in the U.S. and operate a new business. During the first year, the immigrant entrepreneur must start a business that employs at least 2 full-time U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and invest or raise at least $100,000 of capital. In years 2-4, the business must employ at least 5 Americans or legal permanent residents.
These new visa programs would increase foreign worker imports by 125,000 each year when more than 20 million Americans can't find a full-time job and when millions of Americans are about to graduate from college.

My colleague Robert Book has written a compelling analysis of Obamacare's medical-device tax, which concludes that it will destroy about 14,000 and perhaps up to 47,100 jobs. The 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices is a savage blow to innovation. Note that this tax is on sales, not profits. It cuts into the top line, not the bottom line. If not repealed, this tax will start hitting medical-device makers on January 1, 2013.
Because of Florida's "sunshine laws" on transparency, all elected officials' emails are public documents, so the MEDIA monitors these emails. Yes, the same media folk who are busily spinning a false narrative about Florida, demonizing them for daring to uphold election integrity and trying to sway public opinion against the state. These spinsters are closely monitoring the Governor's emails, along with the emails of the Secretary of State and Supervisors of Elections, to guage public response is. Special interests and vote fraud deniers will be out in droves; we need to FLOOD the GOVernment with emails that offset the deluge of email being sent by these groups.
