Media Blackout As Obama Appoints First Ever Assassination Czar

Posted by Alexander Higgins - May 23, 2012
Media Blackout As Obama Appoints First Ever Assassination Czar

Corporate news blackout as Obama designates John Brennan as the sole person in charge of designating people to be assassinated.

John Brennan, Obama's chief counterterrorism advisor was a name that you did not see on the Mainstream media today as the continue to run stories that serve to distract the masses from stories that matter.

Most recently he publicly spoke about the drone program calling it moral and ethical and just.

According to reports from the Associated Press, John Brennan has now seized the lead in choosing who will be targeted for drone attacks and raids and Obama has delegated him the sole authority to designate people for assassination under the United States top-secret assassination program.

Yes, if it such a secret program then why is the associated press running a story on it? Because it is only a "top-secret" matter of National Insecurity when the public and organizations such as the ACLU request more details on it than the propagandized reports the public is fed through the corporate media.

While this story deserves to have been put before the eyeballs of every U.S. citizens, it was merely a side note ran by the Associate Press that didn't make corporate news headlines anywhere.

According to the AP, under the new plan, Brennan's staff compiles the potential target list and runs the names past agencies such as the State Department at a weekly White House meeting.

At the same time ACLU lawsuits and requests for information about the decision-making process behind the government's assassination program repeatedly get denied with the government claiming the programs are so top secret that they can neither confirm nor deny the programs even exist.

States Vote to Ban UN Agenda 21 Policies

The New Hampshire House of Representatives voted to ban UN Agenda 21 polices.

This legislation will prevent local, county and state governments from adopting the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) programs.

ICLEI is a UN agency that provides "local" community plans, software and training to towns and cities that pay their dues. Other private organizations in league with ICLEI are:

* National League of Cities
* International City/County Management Group
* National Governors Association
* American Planning Group

"I know it is totally against our Constitution from reading the U.N. biodiversity assessment," Rep. Anne Cartwright (R-Alstead), the primary sponsor of the bill. "It's through local initiative that it is being implemented in bits and pieces to erode our property rights."

Cartwright believes ICLEI is attempting to remove individual property rights through sustainable development.

Part Two: The Fiction and Non-Fiction of Obama

  • May 13, 2012

In Part I of this report, we examined President Obama's earliest role models and the influence each likely had on him as he shaped his worldview. With an anti-colonialist father, a mother who rejected Western society, a communist mentor, a domestic-terrorist benefactor, and an anti-Semitic preacher, the reasons behind Obama's past and present actions come more sharply into focus. Below, we navigate through just some of the president's questionable political positions.

Glenn Beck Reviews Barack Obamas Contradictions

"Brave" enough to order the killing Osama bin Laden...but had a back-up memo to blame the military in case it went wrong?

The entire Obama administration along with the American left has heaped praise on the president for his "daring" and "brave" decision to send a Navy SEAL team into an Abottobbad compound to assassinate 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. In fact, Obama has even used the accomplishment as the crux of his latest campaign ad - a move even liberal mediaite Arianna Huffington deemed despicable. Yet in April it was revealed that then-CIA Director Leon Panetta drafted a memo that included an escape clause for the president should the operation go awry [emphasis added]: "The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven's hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out." In plain-speak, Obama chose to blame the military, through "Patsy" Admiral McRaven, should the mission to kill bin Laden fail. Does this sound like something a Commander in Chief would or should ever do? The Wall Street Journal adds:

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

 Glenn Beck In Israel

Question with boldness, hold to the truth, and speak without fear.  That has been my answer. - Glenn Beck

Since taking to the airwaves, Glenn Beck has been an answer man and a champion for the ideals of America.  His 2010 Restoring Honor Rally and his upcoming Restoring Love Rally remind our nation what it means to be an American.  On the Glenn Beck Program and GBTV, Glenn continuously fights to be the voice of freedom and warn our nation of the ever-growing power our government possesses.  Patrick Henry stated that,   "The battle is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave."  Glenn Beck is the vigilant, the active, and the brave and for that reason, The Philadelphia Freedom Center is proud to honor him with The Patrick Henry Award and want you to be involved in this wonderful event.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

Results that make a difference, not just a statement.

Registration will start at 7:30 AM with the event starting at 8:30 AM and running through 5:00 PM.

Here are a few comments we have received from previous training seminars around the nation:

"...After 8 hours in that chair ............. I was ready for another 8 hours - it seemed to end too soon..."

"I was literally stunned. Wow!
Brigitte Gabriel has assembled an incredible team to support her message of action and hope!"

"...As much as the issue depresses me, and I could cry every time I think about what is happening to the West, I left yesterday's conference energized and inspired. The day reminded me that I am *not* alone, after all, in trying to resist the dangerous absurdity of radical Islam that is being forced on us. I'm in desperate need of such reminders, as I'm sure most of us are. Whenever I'm close to despair, I remind myself of Brigitte's message. Thank you so much for this incredible training day!"

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Washington Times

Romney sees D.C. school vouchers as model for U.S.

By Stephen Dinan

-

The Washington Times

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Mitt Romney vowed Wednesday to expand Washington's school voucher program as part of a broader nationwide push for school choice, and he accused President Obama of failing to fulfill his own education promises from 2008 because he is too beholden to teachers unions.

Opening a new line of attack on the president, Mr. Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, said unions are the chief impediment to education reform, and that Mr. Obama has repeatedly sided with them instead of with parents and students attending failing schools.

The attack was part of an education speech Mr. Romney delivered in the nation's capital to the Latino Coalition, a Hispanic small-business advocacy group, and signaled an astute political calculation: Hispanic voters regularly place education among their top issues, even higher than immigration, and they generally support vouchers and stricter school standards.

Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

1. Attacked for Being a Conservative: Ted Cruz Needs Our Help

2. The Growth Deficit and Spending Fairy Tales

3. The REAL Problem With the NLRB's Ambush Elections Rule: Unions LIE.

1. Attacked for Being a Conservative: Ted Cruz Needs Our Help

I never thought I'd see the day when a Republican attacks another Republican for being a free market conservative, but that's what David Dewhurst is doing in his attempt to buy the Texas Senate Election.

New polling out shows that Dewhurst is close to, but not at, 50% - the threshold he needs to reach to avoid a runoff with Ted Cruz. So now Dewhurst is attacking Ted Cruz for being a free market conservative aligned with . . . wait for it . . . no serious, wait for it . . . free market groups like the Club for Growth.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

2. The Growth Deficit and Spending Fairy Tales

The United States faces a number of economic and fiscal challenges in the short and long terms. But the single biggest is the Growth Deficit: the problem of government spending and government debt growing faster than the private sector. That deficit needs to be reversed; we are on an unsustainable path unless we start producing a Growth Surplus. And Republicans and conservatives need to put more effort into emphasizing the importance of the Growth Deficit to the public.

The Obama Administration seems to recognize that this is a political vulnerability, as it has lately been spinning the notion that the last few years have not actually grown federal spending. Below the fold, I've collected a number of charts that illustrate why this is nonsense. But first, a word on how we should be measuring our solvency.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. The REAL Problem With the NLRB's Ambush Elections Rule: Unions LIE.

Recently, a federal court smacked down Barack Obama's union appointees at the National Labor Relations Board for the manner in which they imposed their ambush election scheme. The scheme is, however, far from dead as the union-controlled labor board is "determined to move forward" with the needless rules. While there is much opposition to the NLRB's ambush election rules, few have yet to address the underlying issue that makes the scheme unfair to workers and a disaster for America's union-free workplace and that is: Unions and their organizers LIE to and deceive workers...All. The. Time.

What's worse is that, not only do unions lie to, trick and deceive workers into unionizing, it's perfectly legal to do so.

New Bill Targets Propaganda And "Psychological Operations" Directly At U.S. Citizens   May 23, 2012 03:15 pm

Should it be legal for the U.S. government to spend billions of dollars on propaganda designed to change public opinion in the United States?

Should it be legal for the U.S. government to use television, radio, newspapers, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogs and Internet forums to conduct "psychological operations" targeted at the American public?

An amendment that has been added to a new defense bill in Congress would make it legal to target propaganda and "psychological operations" directly at U.S. citizens.

The Top 50 Excuses For Not Prepping   May 23, 2012 06:00 am

With the way that things are heading in this country, it is not surprising that there are approximately 3 million preppers in the United States today. What is surprising is that there are not more people prepping. The economy is rapidly falling to pieces, the national debt is absolutely soaring, the earth is becoming increasingly unstable, a major war could erupt in the Middle East at any time and the fabric of our society is coming apart right in front of our eyes.

Dershowitz Doubles Down on Trayvon Martin Case   May 23, 2012 12:11 am

As part of a recent AIM Report, I wrote briefly about the release of documents last week in the George Zimmerman case. Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin. But more has come out since then, and attorney Alan Dershowitz has stepped up his criticism of the special prosecutor in Florida who brought the charges. Here is what I wrote:

Muslim Child-Rape Gangs in Britain   May 22, 2012 06:26 pm

It recently emerged that British police had known for more than a decade that Muslim rape gangs were targeting young girls, but they ignored the evidence of rapes because "they were petrified of being called racist." Rather than acknowledge that there is a problem, Muslim groups have decided to play the victim card instead.

The Supreme Court Enters the Surveillance Debate   May 22, 2012 06:10 pm

Since 2004, the Supreme Court's transnational progressive bloc has forged a novel - and, in my view, a damaging - judicial oversight role in American national security.

The whimsical Justice Kennedy's alignment with the Court's four-justice left-wing bloc (in which the two Clinton appointees, Justices Ginsburg and Stevens, are now joined by the two Obama-appointed justices, Sotomayor and Kagan, who've replaced retiring Justices Souter and Stevens) has created a majority for the radical propositions that:

BENADOR: Obama's Hate For America: Actions Speak Louder Than Words   May 22, 2012 01:47 pm

by Eliana Benador

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes mandatory."  Thomas Jefferson

Introduction

The poisoned prescription that Americans self-medicated themselves as a result of last elections was a president whose priorities are divided between his communist agenda, his global agenda, his Muslim agenda and his African agenda -and the poison part comes when dealing with America, as he only uses her so that his other priorities can be successful.

Australia's Strategy   May 22, 2012 01:32 pm

Australia is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, ranked in the top 10 in gross domestic product per capita. It is one of the most isolated major countries in the world; it occupies an entire united continent, is difficult to invade and rarely is threatened. Normally, we would not expect a relatively well-off and isolated country to have been involved in many wars. This has not been the case for Australia and, more interesting, it has persistently not been the case, even under a variety of governments. Ideology does not explain the phenomenon in this instance.

America: A Rogue Nation   May 22, 2012 11:03 am

The debate over the Iraq War that was held in the United Nations, and in academic and foreign policy circles, could be broken down as the question whether it was Iraq or the United States that was the rogue nation. On the one hand, Iraq had defied multiple UN resolutions, but so had the United States. Iraq had gone rogue, but, by talking about a unilateral invasion, so had the United States, and, in the moral calculus of the international community, all that mattered was being a team player.

Florida Family Association

Muslim Brotherhood in America is teaching millions of America's youth about Islam.  Have you sent your email to Channel One Network?

Robert Spencer, director of Jihadwatch.org and an authority on Islam, has written a powerful book titled Muslim Brotherhood in America which quotes Brotherhood Leader Muhammad Mahdi Othman Akef "the Americans will come into the bosom of Islam."  David Horowitz founder of the Freedom Center says here the Muslim Brotherhood "has created a series, a network of front groups which includes the Muslim Students Association."

Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on May 22, 2012 titled "TV Network Proselytizes Islam to 6 Million Public School Students."  The alert reported that two Muslim Students Association chapter presidents shared their version of Islam with over 6 million students via Channel One Network.  That full email is published below.

Please take a minute to voice your opposition to Channel One Network officials for airing these two pro-Islamist shows to public school students.

Please forward this email to friends who are concerned about the Islamization of American.

  May 22, 2012 Email Alert

TV Network associated with 2K Sports and Rockstar Games proselytizes Islam to 6 Million Public School Students.

Click here to send your email Channel Network One officials.

Channel One Network provides daily newscasts and education videos to junior and senior high schools across America.  Channel One Network aired a two part series titled,  "Muslims in America", on May 16, 2012 and May 17, 2012 to approximately 6 MILLION students at more than 8,000 schools.  The videos and transcripts for these shows are posted near the end of this email alert.

The transcript of part one of "Muslims in America" reads like The Learning Channel's recently cancelled television show "All-American Muslim." Channel One attempts to portray Muslims living normal American lives.  But that contention is difficult to accept since the shows profiled two Muslim Students Association (MSA) presidents.

Two of the Muslims interviewed, Muhtasham Sifaat and Kyle Smith, are Muslim Students Association chapter presidents.  Muhtasham Sifaat is president of the Muslim Students Association, Bronx Science.  Kyle Smith of Plainfield, NJ is president of the Muslim Students Association at his university. The Muslim Students Association is "the mother ship of all the Muslim Brotherhood front groups" according to Jihadwatch.org.

Here is the Muslim Students Association pledge.  "Allah is my lord.  Islam is my life.  The Koran is my guide.  The Sunna is my practice.  Jihad is my spirit.  Righteousness is my character.  Paradise is my goal.  I enjoin what is right.  I forbid what is wrong.  I will fight against oppression.  And I will die to establish Islam."

USA Today reports New York Police Department "spokesman Paul Browne provided a list of 12 people arrested or convicted on terrorism charges in the United States and abroad who had once been members of Muslim student associations, which the NYPD referred to as MSAs."

So these are "Muslims in America" according to Channel One Network?

Channel One Network told 6 million American students during Part One:

*    "So, Islam is basically, it really boils down to submission and your submitting to one God you believe in one God and you follow Prophet Mohammed who is just a line of other prophets from Adam to Noah to Moses and Jesus. It's like a lifestyle, and not so much just something you do every now and then. Honestly if you go down to the core beliefs, it's believing in one God and believing that Prophet Mohammed is his messenger."
*    "Islam to me is a way of life. It can change a person from being whatever...pit that person was going through, Islam can shine a light on the darkness that that person was in."

In essence the Channel One Network May 16, 2012 report WRONGLY:

*    Proselytized Islam to public school students.
*    Presented Islam as a religion of "shining light" while completely omitting any mention of Sharia law which is hostile toward women's rights, human rights and non-Muslim life.
*    Put Mohammed in the same spiritual lineage as Moses, Noah and Jesus which is counter to Judeo and Christian teaching.
*    Equated Islamists' discipline (based on Sharia) to Christianity and Judaism.
*    Gave Jesus only the status of a prophet to these 6 million students without mentioning that 2 billion Christians consider Him to be the Son of God.
*    Took a backhanded slap at Christianity with two references to Islam's alleged "one God."

The Channel One Network told 6 million American students during Part Two "But it's that tiny minority of Muslim extremists that continue to make headlines."  This statement deliberately tries to minimize radical Islamists' threat to America.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which claims to be America's largest Muslim civil liberties advocacy organization:

*    Is an unindicted co-conspirator in the country's largest Hamas terrorist fundraising case.
*    Is opposing legislation in twenty states which seeks to ban courts from recognizing Sharia law which is hostile to many American policies that protect life and human rights.
*    Routinely defends terrorists in the United States and abroad.

Now of course everyone should clearly see that the views of CAIR, the largest Muslim civil liberties advocacy organization in the United States, does not represent a large segment of American Muslims and could only be seen as Channel One Network sees them as "that tiny minority," right?  WRONG.

Channel One Network never addresses the fact that Islam is more than a religion.  They never mention Islam is a radical political movement that seeks government dominion along with their oppressive Sharia law.  They never mention that radical Muslims have seized Sharia control over Egypt and five other countries during the last year.

Liberal Genius Not Quite The Same As The Regular Kind

Exclusive: The Vetting - Did Obama Have Lower SAT Scores Than George W. Bush?
By Charles C. Johnson
Breitbart.com

President Barack Obama is hailed by his supporters and the mainstream media as one of the most brilliant men ever to hold the office. However, his refusal to release his academic records, his admitted deficiencies as a student, and his frequent factual errors--even in his chosen field of constitutional law--have cast doubt upon his supposed genius. Now, Breitbart News has established that Obama's grades and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores may have been even lower than those of his supposedly less capable predecessor, George W. Bush.

'Tax Cuts for the Rich' Is Nonsense

Democrats have been having a field day with the cry of "tax cuts for the rich" - for which Republicans seem to have no reply. This is especially surprising, because Democrats made the same arguments back in the 1920s, and the Republicans then not only had a reply, but one that eventually carried the day, when the top tax rate was brought down from 73 percent to 24 percent.

ACT! FOR AMERICA ON CAPITOL HILL:
WE'VE COME A LONG WAY-THANKS TO YOU!

By Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations

As I prepare for the upcoming 2012 ACT! for America National Conference in Washington, DC, it's clear how far our organization has come in three years with regard to its power, stature and reputation on Capitol Hill. This growth is truly awe-inspiring, and it's thanks to you.

I wanted to take just a moment to share some of my behind-the-scenes observations so you can get a true understanding of what an incredibly powerful organization ACT! for America has become as a response to your individual efforts, including attendance at our prior National Conferences.

You should feel both encouraged and proud of the progress we have made and the stature we now enjoy on Capitol Hill.

Three years ago, when I first began to walk the halls of Congress on your behalf, ACT! for America had a grassroots membership level of 50,000 with 300 chapters across the nation. I thought that was quite impressive for such a young organization. I had no idea what was just around the corner.

We now have nearly 188,000 national security grassroots advocates, and 700 local chapters. As Members of the U.S. Congress have become acutely aware, ACT! for America members are politically active patriotic citizens. The ACT! for America of today is making a tremendous impact at all levels of government-but particularly on Capitol Hill. We have influenced legislation, educated Members of Congress and their staffs, and assured that dialogue about the threat of radical Islam is kept "front and center" in the federal legislative arena.

So how important is attendance at our annual National Conference & Legislative Briefing to those accomplishments and our on-going efforts on Capitol Hill?

It's not just important. It's absolutely vital. Here's why.

The size of the audience at our Legislative Briefing is a hugely effective visual of the national security giant we are becoming. Members of Congress need to SEE us, not just HEAR from us. I assure you, as someone who has worked on and with Capitol Hill for nearly 20 years, it makes a tremendous difference.

To be honest, it took a lot of convincing for me to get just a handful of Members of Congress to attend our first briefing three years ago. We were relatively unknown and untested.

But that's no longer the case, in large part due to our member participation not only back home in our towns and communities, but also at our National Conferences. Each year, our National Conference & Legislative Briefing attendance level grows and, each year, the number of Members of Congress wanting to speak at our briefing grows as well. There is a direct correlation.

For those of you who have attended this event in the past, I can't thank you enough. You've seen the impact we're having first-hand.

For those of you who have not attended one of our National Conferences, I promise that you won't be disappointed should you attend!

This year, I've had an INCREDIBLE response from Members of Congress wanting to speak at our Legislative Briefing. We have a record number of legislators scheduled to attend and they will be addressing a variety of national security issues.

This is living proof of the stature ACT! for America has achieved on Capitol Hill.

This year's National Conference and Legislative Briefing boasts a stellar lineup of speakers, special events such as our "2012 Election Campaign Review," the premiere of the compelling film "Losing Our Sons," and our signature gala banquet.

But more than that, it's going to be a VERY IMPORTANT EVENT. Here's why.

As we all know, this is an election year, and our elected officials are listening and observing more intently than ever. Given how much national attention is being devoted to jobs and the economy, attendance at this year's Legislative Briefing is critical to keeping Members of Congress focused on the issue of national security.

These Members of Congress need to know-they need to see-that protecting our nation from the threat of radical Islam is still a high priority for their constituents. When they see all of us at the National Conference & Legislative Briefing they will get a vivid reminder of that fact.

I always say that our grassroots are the "engine" of the ACT! for America machine. That's because it's so true. I hope that as our 2012 National Conference & Legislative Briefing kicks off this June 27
th, that engine will be roaring loudly before the eyes of our federal legislators.

If you have not yet registered for this year's conference and legislative briefing, but you're trying to decide whether or not to attend, please consider this.

Don't underestimate for a moment the impact your presence at the conference will make. As one person attending you will be visually representing thousands of ACT! for America members who won't be able to join us.

You will literally be a "grassroots ambassador," reminding Members of Congress that our concerns about the threat of radical Islam must not be overlooked or forgotten.

Thank you for ALL that you do. I sincerely hope to see you on Capitol Hill this June.

REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS!

Pelosi: Forcing Military Chaplains to Perform Gay Marriages Against Their Beliefs No Big Deal

The stage is being set so that military Chaplains can and most likely will be ordered to perform same sex marriage in contradiction to their religious beliefs.

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Democrat House leaders including Nancy Pelosi have opposed a measure to ensure military chaplains are not forced to perform same-sex "marriages," arguing that it is based on a "manufactured crisis" and therefore unnecessary - a response strongly criticized by chaplain advocates.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday echoed sentiments issued by the Obama White House regarding the conscience language, part of a defense spending bill, saying that "there's nothing that says that chaplains act against their faith."

Surprise! Last Year's Deficit Actually $5 Trillion

By Katie Pavlich

5/24/2012

Since 2009, and since Senate Democrats last passed a budget, the Congressional Budget Office has calculated $1 trillion deficits each year with 2012 being no exception. But now, a new USA Today study shows that last year's budget deficit wasn't $1 trillion....it was actually $5 trillion.

The deficit was $5 trillion last year under those rules. The official number was $1.3 trillion. Liabilities for Social Security, Medicare and other retirement programs rose by $3.7 trillion in 2011, according to government actuaries, but the amount was not registered on the government's books.

It is well known by now that even if the government confiscated 100% of the wealth held by millionaires and billionaires in America, we still couldn't pay off the $15 trillion+ national debt. But the latest $5 trillion deficit number doesn't only impact millionaires and billionaires.

Under Obama: 30 Worst Months of Employment in the Past 25 Years

May 23, 2012  By JEFFREY H. ANDERSON

The federal government's Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes monthly tallies for the employment-population ratio. That stat shows something rather straightforward: Among those who are living in America and are free to pursue employment, what percentage are employed? (The bureau excludes those who are under 16 years old, are active-duty military, or are - in the bureau's own words - "inmates of institutions (for example, penal and mental facilities, homes for the aged)," from its tallies.)

Over the past quarter of a century (a total of 300 months), dating back to May 1987 and the Reagan administration, here are the 30 worst months (that is, the bottom 10 percent) for the employment-population ratio, along with the president who happened to be in office at that particular time

Who Is Barack Obama?   His autobiography paints a disturbing picture.

By Michael Gledhill

Editor's Note: This article originally appeared in the September 1, 2008, issue of National Review.

Who is Barack Obama? Obama the presidential candidate presents himself as a man who has loved America from his earliest childhood, a man proud of his mixed-race roots who comfortably transcends polarized racial politics, a man who eschews the ideologies of Left and Right, an optimistic healer. But in his critically acclaimed autobiography, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, Obama is something else entirely.

Obama published his autobiography in 1995, when he was in his mid-thirties. Unlike most books by politicians, which are concoctions of clichés penned by ghostwriters, Dreams was clearly written by Obama himself. Unlike most politicians, Obama can write and loves language. (He was contemplating a career as a novelist at the time he wrote Dreams.) Most important, Obama wrote his autobiography after he had become a political activist but before he was a politician; the book is therefore candid in a way a conventional politician's memoir would never be.

Dreams is a complex, introspective book. Its theme is how Obama, born in Hawaii to a white student mother and Kenyan student father, grows to view himself and the white society around him. The Obama of Dreams abandons his multiracial roots to forge an alienated black identity - that of a man steeped in radical ideology who views history in terms of a huge chasm separating oppressor from oppressed, white from black, and rich from poor; a man who is never more emotionally at home than when sitting in the church pew listening to Rev. Jeremiah Wright rant about white racism.

18 million and counting! That's the number of Catholic voters Obama has driven away

May 24, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

At sometime in the future a political scientist - maybe one not yet even  born- will point to Barack Obama's declaration of war against the Catholic Church as the worst move of many bad moves he has made in his inordinately poor campaign for reelection.

Perhaps no other stupid Team Obama move better highlights the gulf between actual Americans and the phony Obama. It reminds us that Obama may (or may not) have been born in America and has spent his parasitical life here, but he is not OF America. He doesn't understand America and the over rated schmucks that are advising him don't either.

They apparently have never bothered to read some basic electoral history. If they had; they would know that no Democrat has ever won the presidency while losing the Catholic vote

Just as he has done with so many other groups Obama has not only given Catholics no ... Continue Reading:18 million and counting! That's the number of Catholic voters Obama has driven away

Fur trapper, Indian agent, and soldier; this was Kit Carson, who died MAY 23, 1868.
Kit Carson's exploits west of the Mississippi were as famous as Daniel Boone's east.
In January of 1868, Kit Carson was appointed superintendent of Indian Affairs in Colorado.
Though suffering severe breathing pain, he brought the Ute Indian Chiefs to Washington, DC., to arrange a treaty.
As they toured northern cities, meeting crowds and posing for pictures with western military notables John C. Fremont and James Carleton, Kit Carson became wearied.
He almost died while staying with the Indian Chiefs at New York City's Metropolitan Hotel.
Kit Carson wrote:
"I felt my head swell and my breath leaving me. Then, I woke...my face and head all wet.
I was on the floor and the chief was holding my head on his arm and putting water on me.
He was crying. ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 23

Et tu, Cory? Booker is a man with a plan

May 23, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

 By Bruce Karlson, staff writer

Cory Booker's comments regarding Barack Obama's attacks on Bain Capital were, for him, a "twofer."  I think he believes in the system and understands that profits are not evil. He is hardly a full throated capitalist but cannot buy into trashing his benefactors in downtown NYC.   He actually believes that private sector money is critical to economic growth.  Some of his time at Stanford was not wasted.

More importantly, he is a man with big plans, a long range game plan, and the horses to execute.  He wants to be POTUS.  The second and more important part of the "twofer" is that it fits his agenda and the regular Democrat practice of shooting the wounded.  Obama may now be considered cooked as Booker would not dare cross him otherwise.  Booker does NOTHING that would hinder his plan so, knowing what he is doing, he chucked Obama and his Chitown thugs, crooks and parasites under ... WND Breaking News

Why are you paying lobbyists to restrict your gun rights?

Cities around the country have created staff positions for professional lobbyists whose primary function is to drum up support for anti-gun legislation, ordinances and regulations.

Part of these lobbyists' salaries are being paid by grants from do-gooder groups like the Joyce Foundation, but the balance of salaries, benefits and support costs are being borne by you, the taxpayer.

In essence, the cash-strapped cities are paying tens of thousands to have an anti-rights organization's lobbyist working in their offices and pretending to be a city employee.

Look who got the "Uncle Tom" treatment from Obama

WND has unearthed a 1994 NPR interview with Barack Obama in which the then-community organizer and lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School dismisses a respected black leader as acceptable to "white America."

It sounded like the kind of racial slam Louis Farrakhan or Al Sharpton would make ... Correction: DID make.

The Last Days of the Media

The magazine business isn't what it used to be. In the last ten years, Newsweek lost 2.5 million readers, and its newsstand sales are hardly worth mentioning. A full-page ad in it costs less than the price of a luxury car. Sold for a buck to the husband of an influential Congresswoman, merged with an internet site, it survives only by building issues around provocative essays and covers.

If you want to understand why Newsweek put a badly photoshopped picture of Obama with a gay halo on its cover or features Romney doing a number from The Book of Mormon, you need only look at those numbers. Fifteen years ago desperate tactics like that were for alt weeklies like The Village Voice, but Time and Newsweek are the new Village Voice. Or the new Salon.

There is no news business anymore, just media trolls looking for a traffic handout, feeding off manufactured controversies that they create and then report on. Magazines and sites struggling to stay alive while preaching to a narrow audience which likes essays by leftist cranks and mocking pictures of conservatives. And they're not alone; any magazine that still covers politics, covers it in the same exact way.

There are house-style differences between the New Yorker, which still features its trademark cartoons, and Vanity Fair and Esquire, and Time and Newsweek, but they are all basically the same. The same essays repeating the same views for the same audience; all of them fighting for that small slice of urban yuppie audience which DVR's Mad Men, has Michael Chabon novels on the shelf that it hasn't read yet and is forty percent gay.

The real 1 percent is right there. That small elitist fragment of America which writes books for itself, makes TV shows for itself and writes outraged articles for itself about a tiny 1 percent elite that runs everything. It has its own books, its own TV shows, its own music, its own stores, its own stations, its own brands and now it has most of the magazines to itself. It's a claustrophobic village raising its own inner child with inane repetitions of its narrow-minded views.

If I'm reading through a long mocking piece on Midwestern Republican primary voters who support Michele Bachmann, a sensitive piece on gay teenagers being bullied in school or an essay by a Muslim columnist on American Islamophobia, how can I tell which magazine I'm reading? Easy, is it the one with a gay Obama on the cover or the one with a woman breastfeeding a three-year-old?

The story is no longer the story. Now the cover is the story with magazines reporting on their own covers, which become the story. And the story? Who cares about the story really. You can know everything about the story by glancing at the cover. And then you don't have to buy it anymore, which explains why newsstand sales aren't doing too well.

How Meritorious Are the Catholic Lawsuits?

Posted: 24 May 2012 01:07 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

We have written several posts about the lawsuits by dozens of Catholic institutions against the federal government that seek to invalidate the HHS mandate requiring them to violate their religious precepts by providing employees with contraceptive and certain abortion services. It strikes me as obvious that the HHS mandate violates the free exercise clause of the First Amendment, but this is not an area in which I am an expert. So I did a little research to find out whether the country's pre-eminent expert on the religion clauses of the First Amendment, Michael McConnell, had written anything on the subject. Michael is a law professor at Stanford and formerly served on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. I can't find that he has written anything on the mandate that is available on the web, but on March 22, he participated in a panel on "Religious Freedom and Healthcare Reform," sponsored by the Religious Freedom Project at Georgetown University's Berkley Center. His comments were summarized in some detail here. McConnell argues that the mandate violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as well as the First Amendment:

Michael McConnell, a former federal judge and current law professor at Stanford University Law School, explained that at its core, the debate over the mandate is a question of religious freedom.

"I do not share the Church's theology with respect to contraception," said McConnell, who is not Catholic.

Yet he explained that the real issue in this case is not contraception, but the government's "unprecedented decision" to require American individuals and institutions to act in a way that violates their religious beliefs.

In addition to Constitutional protections under the First Amendment, there is also support for religious freedom in statutory law, McConnell said.

He explained that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 makes it clear that the federal government may not "substantially burden" the exercise of religion unless it is furthering a "compelling government interest" and employing the "least restrictive means" of doing so.

In this case, he said, it is "rather obvious" that the mandate imposes a substantial burden on the free exercise of religion by requiring religious individuals and organizations to participate in something that they consider gravely immoral.

Furthermore, in granting an exemption at all, however narrow, the administration was acknowledging that "this would be a burden" on the free exercise of religious groups that find it objectionable, he said.

He added that the mandate would impose a substantial burden even with the administration's promised accommodation, which he said is "no difference in substance whatsoever" than the original regulation.

Turning to the standard for a "compelling government interest," McConnell explained that the federal government issued the mandate because it believes that contraception coverage is important and wants to place the cost of covering it on employers.

This is "not a compelling interest at all," he said.

He noted that multiple states have contraception mandates in place, but none of them implement them in the same sweeping way with such a narrow exemption as the federal mandate does.

If it were a compelling government interest, the regulations would not have included any exemption at all, he explained.

Finally, McConnell said, the mandate is not the "least restrictive means" of carrying out the government's goal.

The administration could achieve its objective in another way, such as expanding Title X funding of contraception, without forcing religious employers to violate their consciences, he observed.

Because it fails to meet the standards set out for religious freedom cases, the mandate violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and should not be allowed to stand, he said.

Here is a video of McConnell's remarks. I think the power of his arguments, while couched in somewhat technical terms, will be obvious to pretty much everyone:

It is unfortunate that Professor McConnell is not a justice of the Supreme Court. Some observers think that he would be on the Court today if he had not authored an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in 1998 titled, "Roe v. Wade at 25: Still Illegitimate." But sometimes truth has to come before ambition. Michael has been known to check in on Power Line from time to time, so if he wants to offer any additional observations on the lawsuits, we will be happy to pass them on.

Alan Simpson, Unplugged

Posted: 24 May 2012 09:50 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

I haven't always been a fan of former Wyoming Senator Alan Simpson, but do not miss his recent letter to a greedy geezers lobby group in California.  Politico has the whole story, but here's the complete text of Simpson's letter, which is, shall we say, "candid," even for a westerner:

To Whom It May Concern:

Erskine Bowles and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on the West Coast and received an excellent reception from folks - at least those who are using their heads and have given up using emotion, fear, guilt or racism to juice up their troops. Your little flyer entitled "Bowles! Simpson! Stop using the deficit as a phony excuse to gut our Social Security!" is one of the phoniest excuses for a "flyer" I have ever seen. You use the faces of young people, who are the ones who are going to get gutted while you continue to push out your blather and drivel. My suggestion to you - an honest one - read the damn report. The Moment of Truth - 67 pages, and then tell me if we're not doing the right thing with Social Security. What a wretched group of seniors you must be to use the faces of the very people that we are trying to save, while the "greedy geezers" like you use them as a tool and a front for your nefarious bunch of crap. You must feel some sense of shame for shoveling out this bulls**t. Read the latest news from the Social Security Trustees. The Social Security System will now "hit the skids" in 2033 instead of 2036. If you can't understand all of this you need a pane of glass in your naval so you can see out during the day! Read the report. Get back to me. My address is below.

The response from the California Association of Retired Americans (CARA) is pure Obama/Democratic Party talking points, as if the leadership of CARA suffers from political Alzheimers:

"Alan Simpson's mean-spirited comments insult the intelligence and dedication of retiree activists who worry about their children and grandchildren's future. Sen. Simpson sounds an awful lot like Mitt Romney and others who will use the recent Social Security Trustees report as political cover for their radical changes. They would put seniors at risk while enriching Wall Street and the big health insurance companies. . .

Zzzzzzzzzzz.

According to a Washington Post report, the U.S. is working to improve relations with Pakistan. Among other things, it hopes that Pakistan will re-open a supply route to Afghanistan. In a post just below, I argue against trying to improve the relationship, particularly in light of Pakistan's conviction of a Pakistani doctor for treason in connection with the assistance he provided us in the search for bin Laden.

But if the Obama administration really wants to improve the relationship, I wonder whether it was a good idea for it to indulge in information sharing with Hollywood about the taking out of bin Laden.

Pakistan came up in talks between the Hollywood film-makers and a top Defense Department official, Mike Vickers. I'm sure it did in other conversations with government officials and personnel too, but I haven't seen what was said in those talks.

The transcript of the discussion with Vickers shows that the Hollywood people wanted to discuss what could have gone wrong with the operation against bin Laden. The idea, they said, was to negate the view that this was an easy decision. Stated differently, the idea (at least in part) was to portray Obama as his campaign portrays him in this context - an incredibly courageous president, making an incredibly difficult decision.

Vickers was happy to oblige. He discussed various worst case scenarios, including "a big fight with Pakistani security forces" and having to negotiate the release of members of our forces. Vickers did not adopt the suggestion from one of the Hollywood folks that we could have ended up in a war with Pakistan, but he didn't stop very short of that scenario.

Personally, I hope this movie portrays the Pakistani police/military as some combination of the Keystone Kops and punk bikers in a bad Clint Eastwood movie. But if Obama wants to improve relations with Pakistan, or even to keep them where they are, is it a good idea for DoD to be talking to film-makers about shoot-em-ups with Pakistani forces? Shouldn't the official line, however implausible, be that we saw no risk of a confrontation with our good friends the Pakistanis? The film-makers wouldn't have bought it, but let them be the ones imagining our guys fighting the Pakistanis. Let's not have government officials do it for them.

And, under any circumstances, is it wise to be telling Hollywood that the U.S. government was prepared to make deals in order to secure the release of our troops, if they couldn't get out? This too seems like something better left unsaid.

These concerns may pale in relation to the importance of helping Hollywood glorify Barack Obama. But they shouldn't.

And keep in mind that Hollywood's talk with Vickers is probably just the tip of iceberg. His primary role - which he was also happy to play - was to put the film-makers in touch with other folks who could tell them more.

Pakistan deems it treason for Pakistani to help the U.S. find bin Laden

(Paul Mirengoff)

A Pakistani court has convicted a doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden of treason. According to this report in the Washington Post, the doctor, Shakil Afridi, apparently tried to obtain DNA samples from bin Laden's compound through a vaccination program. He failed to get the samples, but U.S. officials have acknowledged that the doctor did contribute to our intelligence operation against bin Laden.

Pakistan shouldn't have prosecuted Afridi for anything; it should consider him a hero. But to convict him of treason is particularly galling - and quite telling. Afridi did spy. He didn't spy on Pakistan, though; he spied on bin Laden. He acted against Pakistan only to the extent that the interests of Pakistan and bin Laden were aligned.

One of the charges against Afridi was cooperating in a war against the state. In realilty, however, Afridi cooperated in a war against al Qaeda and the Taliban. He cooperated in a war against Pakistan only to the extent that the interests of Pakistan and those of al Qaeda and the Taliban are aligned. And that's the problem - they are to some extent. Alignment to any extent should be unacceptable to the U.S.

Unfortunately, the Obama administration doesn't seem to agree. Recently, as the outrageous proceedings against Afridi were moving ahead, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan met with Pakistani officials and reported that U.S. relations with Pakistan are "poised to improve." Improvement in this context would mean a return to Islamabad's double-dealing, as it balances the interests of the world's worst terrorist organizations against the interests of the U.S., or rather against Pakistan's interest in stringing the U.S. along.

President Obama made the decision at the outset of his administration to tilt towards Pakistan and away from India. This move was consistent with his penchant for favoring nations that are "less like America." But now it's time for a more serious, more conventional South Asia policy.

The U.S. should stop giving aid to Pakistan. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher has it right: "Any money that goes to Islamabad will continue to end up in the pockets of people actively and deadly hostile to America."

The Obama administration would like Islamabad to reopen our supply line through Pakistan into Afghanistan. But Max Boot reports that our troops in Afghanistan are getting what they need through a northern supply line. With our effort in Afghanistan winding down in any event, we no longer need to be the hostage of a nation that calls it treason to help us take out our number one enemy.

BY THE WAY: The Washington Post report raises a few additional questions, at least for me. Was it wise to try to conduct a bogus vaccination operation in the hope of getting DNA from bin Laden or his associates? How likely were they to submit to this procedure from strangers, and wasn't there a risk that the attempt would arouse suspicion that something was up?

Also, why did the U.S. admit that Dr. Afridi contributed to our intelligence effort against bin Laden? I assume that Pakistan had all the evidence it needed without our statement, but it still seems strange that we would acknowledged his role. For one thing, doing so might well have increased the need, from a public relations perspective, to come down extra hard on this guy.

I'm not passing judgment through these questions. I'm just asking.

Why Scientists Have Squandered Public Trust

Posted: 24 May 2012 05:34 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

I have commented before about the political problems of the scientific community, which are typically being turned around against RepublicansIn a post last month I recalled the 2004 remark by Harvard geneticist Richard Lewontin in the New York Review of Books that "Most scientists are, at a minimum, liberals," and the caution of MIT's Kerry Emanuel about the dangers of "group think" and the "shocking lack of political diversity among American academics."  He concluded that "Until this profound and well-documented intellectual homogeneity changes, scientists will be suspected of constituting a leftist think tank."

John Holdren, Age 68

Well, this week the National Academy of Sciences had a chance to do something about this, and . . . completely blew it.  A two-day symposium on science and public policy featured a panel of presidential science advisers, but the panel included only advisers to Democratic presidents, including Obama's science adviser, the egregious John (sterilize the public) Holdren.  The others were two advisers for Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter's science adviser, the 87-year-old Frank Press.

Conspicuously missing from the panel was President Reagan's science adviser Jay Keyworth, who is a spry 72.  (He turns out to be the only living GOP science adviser.)  When asked why Keyworth wasn't invited, NAS president Ralph Cicerone said, "We didn't want to go back that far."

Jay Keyworth, speaking recently at the University of Colorado

So let's see: having Jimmy Carter's 87-year-old science adviser apparently isn't "going back that far," but having Reagan's still active 72-year old science adviser would be?  And please tell me again why we shouldn't regard scientific elites with suspicion?

Maybe the NAS should put together a panel to explore the strange bubble around the scientific establishment that distorts its outlook on the world.  I used to respect Cicerone, in part for staring down the enviros when they tried to prevent an NAS panel on geoengineering.  But no more.  These people deserve every calumny thrown their way.

DOD Health System: Improving Military Strength and Quality of Care

by Katie Nielsen

Heritage expert Baker Spring proposes to reform the Department of Defense's health care system. This will simultaneously improve military strength and provide top-notch health care to military members and their families.

DOD health care costs have increased by nearly $30 billion in the past 11 years. These costs are preventing the military from investing in new weapons and equipment. While it is imperative that our nation's protectors are provided for, it is also important for the U.S. to look into better ways to fund these health care costs.

Heritage Foundation expert Baker Spring suggests the DOD adopt Heritage's health proposal. This would give the DOD's civilian and military employees access to the federal government's health plans and save almost $22 billion over five years.

Spring explains why Heritage's plan is better than another recent plan from the Government Accountability Office (GAO):

Even if the higher range of the GAO estimate proves accurate, the efficiencies will save only $2.3 billion over five years. The Heritage Foundation's systemic reform proposal, by contrast, could save almost $22 billion in the same time frame.

There must be a systematic reform, rather than simple management reforms as the GAO recommends in order to staunch the growing health care costs. Only after the reform is in place can the centralization begin.

Military service members, retirees, and their families deserve access to top-notch medical services and coverage. Taxpayers deserve an MHS that is run in an efficient manner, including by operating it through an effective management system. While achieving these two goals simultaneously is not easy, it is possible. The solution starts with adopting a basic design for the MHS that is based on the defined-contribution approach. Adopting an MHS management structure that is tailored to this approach would enhance the efficiency further.

Do you think military personnel and their families should have access to the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan?

During last week's G8 Summit, President Obama stressed the importance of international aid to Africa and has pledged billions of dollars in efforts to improve food security and eradicate poverty.

Heritage's Terry Miller explains the complexity of the issue. Rather than pumping money into nations with unproven mechanisms for distribution, the United States should focus its efforts on advancing economic freedom, cultivated by the rule of law, limited government, regulatory efficiency and open markets. Research done by the Heritage Foundation and other international organizations such as the World Bank and African Development Bank shows a high correlation between economic freedom and increased economic stability.

Read more and tell us what you think of the U.S. approach to international aid on myHeritage.

A recent report from the Office of the Inspector General found that FEMA has cost taxpayers millions of dollars by failing to adjust its accounting correctly and making other basic errors. These errors are particularly costly given the record number of federal disaster declarations, which have left FEMA operating as a "bailout bank." Heritage Foundation expert Matt Mayer recommends that Congress must act.
Do you think FEMA should be held accountable for its spending?

Medicare at Risk: Visualizing the Need for Reform

Heritage's new chart series, "Medicare at Risk: Visualizing the Need for Reform," shows that, without the necessary structural reform, Medicare's finances will have devastating consequences on the federal budget, not to mention taxpayers and seniors alike.

Medicare's Impact on the Budget. Medicare spending is rising faster than any other part of the federal budget, and it's a major driver of runaway deficit spending in the not-so-distant future. Retiring baby boomers and rising health care costs will cause Medicare's shortfall to contribute to 81 percent of federal deficits by 2040. Clearly, the federal deficit cannot be contained without addressing Medicare's structural problems.

Medicare's Impact on Seniors. Obamacare did nothing to improve Medicare's fiscal crisis. Even though Medicare spending falls by $421 billion under the health care law, the savings offset the cost of other provisions in Obamacare instead of shoring up Medicare's deficits. Worse yet, Obamacare's flawed method of controlling Medicare's costs by cutting provider payments will significantly reduce seniors' access to care. As the charts show, these profound cuts put 40 percent of providers in danger of closing their doors by 2050. As the number of beneficiaries rise, the number of providers cannot decrease without causing serious access issues.

Medicare reform is vital if the program is going to be ready to handle what's to come. Explore the charts now >>

Fighting Irish Fight for Religious Freedom

Earlier this week, the University of Notre Dame filed a legal challenge against a regulation in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (often referred to as "Obamacare") that requires health care plans to include abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives, and sterilization procedures.

Many religious institutions, including Notre Dame, object on religious or moral grounds to providing, paying for, and/or facilitating insurance coverage that includes abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives, and/or sterilization procedures.

If the federal government is permitted to "override our religious purpose" and "use religious organizations to advance policies that undercut [their] values," said Notre Dame President Father John Jenkins, then religious organizations will become "mere tools for the exercise of government power" and "morally subservient to the state."

Notre Dame's lawsuit is one of 12 lawsuits filed today by 43 plaintiffs against the Obamacare regulation.

In addition, several other institutions have already filed lawsuits seeking protection for religious freedom.

Plaintiffs challenging the Obamacare mandate in court include Catholic institutions, Protestant institutions, business owners who are religious, and several state governments.

Further, one religious university recently announced it will no longer offer a student health insurance plan, because Obamacare would require the plan to include goods or services that violate the institution's religious beliefs.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called the Obamacare mandate an "unprecedented" violation of religious freedom by the federal government.

The mounting pressure highlights the ongoing potential for centrally driven health care policy to conflict with conscience. That leads to a longer-term question: whether religious institutions will be able to withstand the increasing crush of federal regulation that reaches ever more deeply into realms of private choice and decision-making.

The particular regulation challenged by Notre Dame and others is just one small part of a gigantic statutory and regulatory scheme that is still being implemented.

Those who seek to defend religious freedom should make common cause with those who defend freedom in general. A society that abandons its moral and political commitment to freedom in general will become less willing and even hostile to protecting religious freedom in particular.

What do you think of this effort by people of faith to highlight a violation of religious liberty? Raise your voice on our blog >>

U.S. v. Heicklen: The Nullification of Free Speech

Julian P. Heicklen, an 80-year-old retired chemistry professor and advocate of jury nullification, found himself in a similar situation. Heicklen, as part of his activism, would stand in front of courthouses with a "Jury Info" sign, handing out pamphlets and explaining jury nullification to anyone who would approach him. So what was the charge? Heicklen was accused of jury tampering, a federal criminal misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months imprisonment (which, ironically, means that the defendant is not entitled to a jury trial).

ABOUT OVERCRIMINALIZATION

The Heritage Foundation and a coalition of public interest legal groups are committed to reversing the troubling trend of overcriminalization, which is defined by three attributes:

1. Federalizing crime that properly belongs under state and local jurisdiction;

2. Imposing criminal penalties upon persons who acted without criminal intent (mens rea);

3. Applying criminal sanctions to conduct that historically has not been considered wrongful.

This Legislative Update includes bills our researchers have identified that add or expand federal criminal offenses or penalties, but it generally does NOT include bills involving drugs, firearms, or crimes of violence.

Obama's Blockbuster Secrets

Deep in the cover of night in the town of Abbottabad, Pakistan, a team of Navy SEALs descended from helicopters, breached the compound of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and brought him to justice. The story is the stuff that blockbuster movies are made of, but many of the details are largely a closely guarded secret. That was until the Obama White House granted extraordinary access and information to Hollywood filmmakers for their film about the raid, originally slated to be released just before the November presidential elections. As disturbing as that may be, it is not the first time this White House has disclosed confidential information under questionable circumstances.

The news of the information leak comes from Judicial Watch, a conservative organization that seeks transparency in government. Through a Freedom of Information Act request, the organization obtained records from the U.S. Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency regarding meetings and communications between government agencies and director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal. Judicial Watch reports that "According to the records, the Obama Defense Department granted Bigelow and Boal access to a 'planner, Operator and Commander of SEAL Team Six,' which was responsible for the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden, to assist Bigelow prepare her upcoming feature film."

Politico reports on a July 2011 meeting between Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Mike Vickers and the film makers in which he told them that leaders of the Special Operations Command couldn't speak to them for appearances' sake, but that they would make available a Navy SEAL who was involved in planning the raid from its earliest stages. According to Politico, that meeting occurred just weeks after the Pentagon and CIA warned against the dangers of leaked information about the raid. On top of that, Judicial Watch reports on an email exchange in which top officials expressed their desire to "shape the story" and have the filmmakers use "White House talking points," including calling the raid a "gutsy decision" and that "WH involvement was critical."

Not to be missed is the political angle. A June 9, 2011, email reveals that the White House was aware the movie was set for a fourth-quarter release date -- coinciding with the president's re-election bid -- and that the meeting between the filmmakers and the DOD / CIA was arranged by The Glover Park Group, a Democratic-leaning advocacy firm headed up by a former adviser to Al Gore's 2000 campaign. And then there's the fact that Sony Pictures Entertainment, which owns the production house distributing the film, hosted a fundraiser for President Obama on its lot last month, part of a West Coast fundraising tour that raise the campaign more than $4 million.

Though we do not know for certain the full extent of the information revealed, we do know that this is not the first time that the Obama Administration's handling of classified information has been called into question. Earlier this month, former CIA officials blamed the Obama Administration for leaking details on Britain's involvement in a covert mission that resulted in the foiling of an underwear bomb plot. The Guardian reported that the leak followed a series of disclosures beginning with a report on an expansion of CIA drone attacks in Yemen, followed by the president's surprise trip to Afghanistan on the anniversary of the bin Laden mission. Mike Scheuer, the former head of the CIA's Bin Laden unit, said of the leak, "MI6 should be as angry as hell. This is something that the prime minister should raise with the president... This is really tragic. Any information disclosed is too much information. This does seem to be a tawdry political thing."

Of course, the protection of classified information is the sole province of the Executive branch, i.e. the President. It's not unusual for the government to give reporters information about war or to embed journalists with tactical units in certain missions -- that has happened in both in Democrat and Republican administrations. However, there is a fundamental difference between that kind of access, which arguably furthers the public's understanding of the war effort, and disclosures of this nature. The White House knew when the film about the bin Laden raid was slated to be released, and the White House alone decided to release the information. Those facts should raise a red flag for Congress that the White House has come awfully close to the line. It's up to them to find out how this Administration is handling or mishandling ultra-sensitive national security secrets.

Alexander's Essay - May 24, 2012

Memorial Day Is NOT on Sale

Millions of Patriots Have Already Paid the Full Price

"I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States." --John Adams

Memorial Day provides a stark contrast between the best of our nation's Patriot sons and daughters versus the worst of our nation's civilian culture of consumption.

Amid the sparse, reverent observances of the sacrifices made by millions of American Patriots who paid the full price for Liberty, in keeping with their sacred oaths, we are inundated at every turn with the commercialization of Memorial Day by vendors who are too ignorant and/or selfish to honor this day in accordance with its purpose.

Indeed, Memorial Day has been sold out. And it's no wonder, as government schools no longer teach civics or any meaningful history, and courts have excluded God (officially) from the public square.

In his essay "The Contest In America," 19th-century libertarian philosopher John Stuart Mill wrote, "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

It is that "decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling" which accounts for why so many "miserable creatures" have downgraded Memorial Day to nothing more than a date to exploit for commercial greed and avarice. While units large and small of America's Armed Forces stand in harm's way around the globe, many Americans are too preoccupied with beer, barbecue and baseball to pause and recognize the priceless burden borne by generations of our uniformed Patriots. Likewise, many politicos will use Memorial Day as a soapbox to feign Patriotism, while in reality they are in constant violation of their oaths to our Constitution.

That notwithstanding, there are still tens of millions of American Patriots who will set aside the last Monday in May to honor all those fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coastguardsmen who have refreshed the Tree of Liberty with their blood, indeed with their lives, so that we might remain the proud and free. My family, which humbly descends from generations of American Patriots from the American Revolution forward, will honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's fallen warriors by offering prayer in thanksgiving for the legacy of Liberty they have bequeathed to us, and by participating in respectful commemorations.

Since the opening salvos of the American Revolution, nearly 1.2 million American Patriots have died in defense of Liberty. Additionally, 1.4 million have been wounded in combat, and tens of millions more have served honorably, surviving without physical wounds. These numbers, of course, offer no reckoning of the inestimable value of their service or the sacrifices borne by their families, but we do know that the value of Liberty extended to their posterity -- to us -- is priceless.

Who were these brave souls?

On 12 May 1962, Gen. Douglas MacArthur addressed the cadets at the U.S. Military Academy, delivering his farewell speech, "Duty, Honor and Country." He described the legions of uniformed American Patriots as follows: "Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man at arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures -- not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless."

Gen. MacArthur continued:

His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me, or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast.

But when I think of his patience under adversity, of his courage under fire, and of his modesty in victory, I am filled with an emotion of admiration I cannot put into words. He belongs to history as furnishing one of the greatest examples of successful patriotism. He belongs to posterity as the instructor of future generations in the principles of liberty and freedom. He belongs to the present, to us, by his virtues and by his achievements.

In twenty campaigns, on a hundred battlefields, around a thousand campfires, I have witnessed that enduring fortitude, that patriotic self-abnegation, and that invincible determination which have carved his statue in the hearts of his people.

From one end of the world to the other, he has drained deep the chalice of courage. As I listened to those songs of the glee club, in memory's eye I could see those staggering columns of the First World War, bending under soggy packs on many a weary march, from dripping dusk to drizzling dawn, slogging ankle deep through mire of shell-pocked roads; to form grimly for the attack, blue-lipped, covered with sludge and mud, chilled by the wind and rain, driving home to their objective, and for many, to the judgment seat of God.

I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death. They died unquestioning, uncomplaining, with faith in their hearts, and on their lips the hope that we would go on to victory. Always for them: Duty, Honor, Country. Always their blood, and sweat, and tears, as they saw the way and the light.

Duty. Honor. Country -- these are not for bargain sale or discount.

Post Your Opinion: How will you observe Memorial Day?

On Memorial Day of 1982, President Ronald Reagan offered these words in honor of Patriots interred at Arlington National Cemetery: "I have no illusions about what little I can add now to the silent testimony of those who gave their lives willingly for their country. Words are even more feeble on this Memorial Day, for the sight before us is that of a strong and good nation that stands in silence and remembers those who were loved and who, in return, loved their countrymen enough to die for them. Yet, we must try to honor them not for their sakes alone, but for our own. And if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice."

President Reagan continued:

Our first obligation to them and ourselves is plain enough: The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden. And just as they whom we commemorate were willing to sacrifice, so too must we -- in a less final, less heroic way -- be willing to give of ourselves.

It is this, beyond the controversy and the congressional debate, beyond the blizzard of budget numbers and the complexity of modern weapons systems, that motivates us in our search for security and peace. ... The willingness of some to give their lives so that others might live never fails to evoke in us a sense of wonder and mystery.

One gets that feeling here on this hallowed ground, and I have known that same poignant feeling as I looked out across the rows of white crosses and Stars of David in Europe, in the Philippines, and the military cemeteries here in our own land. Each one marks the resting place of an American hero and, in my lifetime, the heroes of World War I, the Doughboys, the GIs of World War II or Korea or Vietnam. They span several generations of young Americans, all different and yet all alike, like the markers above their resting places, all alike in a truly meaningful way.

As we honor their memory today, let us pledge that their lives, their sacrifices, their valor shall be justified and remembered for as long as God gives life to this nation. ... I can't claim to know the words of all the national anthems in the world, but I don't know of any other that ends with a question and a challenge as ours does: "O! say does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave, O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" That is what we must all ask.

Indeed, in this era when Liberty is being crushed under the weight of Democratic Socialism, Patriots must all ask that question, and act accordingly.

For the Fallen, we are certain of that which is noted on all Marine Corps Honorable Discharge orders: "Fideli Certa Merces" -- to the faithful there is certain reward.

Thomas Jefferson offered this enduring advice to all generations of Patriots: "Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them."

We owe a great debt of gratitude to all those generations who have passed the Torch of Liberty to succeeding generations. In accordance, I humbly ask that each of you call upon all those around you to observe Memorial Day with reverence.

To prepare hearts and minds for Memorial Day, take a moment and read about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Join with other Patriots across the nation who will be placing flags at headstones in your local military cemetery (generally the Saturday prior to Memorial Day).

I invite you to view these tributes to our Armed Forces and to God and Country at the Patriot YouTube Channel.

In honor of American Patriots who have died in defense of our great nation, lower your flag to half-staff from sunrise to 1200 on Monday. (Read about proper flag etiquette and protocol.) Join us by observing a time of silence at 1500 (your local time), for remembrance and prayer. Offer a personal word of gratitude and comfort to any surviving family members you know who are grieving for a beloved warrior fallen in battle.

On this and every day, please pray for our Patriot Armed Forces now standing in harm's way around the world in defense of our liberty, and for the families awaiting their safe return.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." --John 15:12-14

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 166 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Obama DOJ Fighting For Transgendered "Justice"

There are a lot of reasons why Arkansas Democrats may have wanted to embarrass Barack Obama in Tuesday's primary. It's Hillary Clinton's home state, and they are simply more conservative than he is. Here's another reason: Obama is doing his best to embarrass the people of Arkansas.

The Daily Caller reports that the Obama Justice Department has ordered the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith to allow a 38 year-old male student to use the women's restrooms. The "man" in question claims to be transgendered, and filed a complaint with the Justice Department's Office of Civil Rights after rejecting the university's offer to create more "gender-neutral" restrooms.

Predictably, the Obama Administration sided with the cross-dresser. An official for the university said, "[T]he DOJ complaint caused revisiting of our thinking. ...In the eyes of the law, this individual is entitled to use the bathroom that she identifies with."

I'm not sure what law entitles a man to use the women's restroom, but I'm not at all surprised by this decision. It speaks volumes about the values that prevail in the Obama Administration and just how radical his agenda really is.

It's no wonder they are so confused on the economy and think tax increases are a good idea. They don't even know what marriage means, and can't figure out that men go to the men's room and women go to the women's room! And where exactly does this fit into the Democrats' rhetoric about a "Republican war on women"? I wonder how many women would be comfortable knowing that a 38 year-old man is in the stall next to them.

"Bias By Omission"

My good friend Brent Bozell has dedicated his life to exposing media bias, and this week we witnessed one of the worst examples of "bias by omission." Here's an excerpt of Bozell's recent column:

"You'd think the largest legal action in American history in defense of religious liberty would be a major news story. But ABC, CBS, and NBC don't judge news events by their inherent importance as relates to the future of our freedoms. They deliver the news according to a simple formula: Does it, or doesn't it, advance the re-election of Barack Obama? If it doesn't, it isn't news.

"On May 21, 43 Catholic dioceses and organizations sued the Obama administration... Never has the Catholic Church -- or any order, for that matter -- undertaken something of this magnitude. It's truly jaw-dropping that ABC and NBC completely ignored this action on their evening newscasts, while 'CBS Evening News' devoted just 19 seconds to this historic event. ...

"This is the worst example of shameless bias by omission I have seen... This should be leading newscasts and the subject of special, in-depth reports."

Bozell is absolutely right. The liberal media are in the tank for Obama, not just in how they spin the news, but also in what they fail to report. Of course, the Catholic Church's lawsuit was the lead story in Tuesday's "End of Day" report.

If your friends and family members are getting their news from the "mainstream" media, there is a lot they are not getting. That's one more reason why it is so important for you to share these messages -- so they can get the news the liberal media won't give them!

Sabotaging Our Military

If you wanted to bring down the U.S. military, sabotage is certainly one way to go about it. A new report suggests it may well be happening. The Senate Armed Services Committee recently released the results of a year-long investigation into the use of counterfeit parts throughout the military. The results were shocking.

According to Reuters, Senate investigators "found 1,800 incidents of bogus parts in the Department of Defense supply chain in 2009 and 2010. The total number of suspected fake parts in those cases topped 1 million." And the threat to our national security and the safety of our men and women in uniform isn't the only concern. "The price tag for replacing a bogus memory device in a ... missile, for example, was $2.7 million." Where are these fake parts coming from? Mostly China.

This makes me livid! Yes, China is a major trading partner. But it is also a strategic competitor, notorious for stealing technology and producing counterfeit products. Our national security should not depend on communist foreign suppliers, whose interests frequently run counter to our own.

At a time when unemployment is unacceptably high, why aren't we making these parts here? Using stimulus dollars to create jobs that support our national security would have been a far better investment than Solyndra, Obama's bankrupt solar boondoggle.

It's All About Obama

Speaking of risks to our national security, NBC News reported yesterday that the "Obama administration leaked classified information to filmmakers on the raid that killed Osama bin Laden." The military routinely cooperates with Hollywood to make their blockbusters as realistic as possible. But it appears that the Obama White House was a bit too eager help Hollywood make Barack look good.

Yesterday, Rep. Peter King (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, blasted the administration for the breech. In a statement, King wrote:

"After reviewing these emails, I am even more concerned about the possible exposure of classified information to these filmmakers, who as far as I know, do not possess security clearances. ...the filmmakers were allowed an unprecedented visit to a classified facility so secret that its name is redacted in the released email.  If this facility is so secret ... then why in the world would the Obama Administration allow filmmakers to tour it?"

Good question, congressman. But the answer is obvious. Obama is so full of himself that his staff is editing the biographies of past presidents to include Obama in their accomplishments. Why all the fuss about national security? The movie about the bin Laden raid, planned for release just 25 days before the election, is obviously all about Obama!

As it turns out, Sony has postponed the movie's release until December. I can't help but wonder whether the White House would have been so cooperative if the original release date had been December and not October.

Warn your Senators against the new bi-partisan bill for 125,000 new skilled foreign workers a year

It's all complicated. And it's all insulting to America's college graduates and to older Americans (over 30) in STEM careers.

We discuss all the ins and outs on this week's webcast from our conference room. Live at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time TODAY. On replay over the next week.

www.NumbersUSA.tv

A group of Democratic and Republican Senators introduced a big new bill to great fanfare this week. It is getting huge publicity. Not surprising because it basically does the bidding of the BILLIONAIRES CLUB we told you about last year that is pouring giant amount of money into trying to fill as many STEM jobs as possible with foreign students.

If you aren't used to the term yet, STEM is the word that is much more important than JOBS to many in Congress who don't believe that Science, Technology, Engineering and Math jobs in America should be reserved primarily for Americans.

Send free fa xes to your Senators

Senators are running to jump on the Billionaires Club bandwagon. You have to get to them before they co-sponsor this new bill.

Bloomberg and Murdock may have the money but they don't have the votes in your state.

Speak up for our sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, neighbors, former youth in our churches, sports teams, scouts and clubs who are graduating with STEM degrees and who don't need any competition for jobs from foreign students, let alone an increase in competition as proposed by this new bill.
