Quote:
"In their zeal for particular kinds of decisions to be made, those with the vision of the anointed seldom consider the nature of the process by which decisions are made. Often what they propose amounts to third-party decision making by people who pay no cost for being wrong-surely one of the least promising ways of reaching decisions satisfactory to those who must live with the consequences."

Morning Bell: Catholic Institutions Sue to Stop Obamacare's Religious Liberty Violation
Mike Brownfield
May 23, 2012
Three years ago, the University of Notre Dame invited President Barack Obama to deliver a commencement address and conferred on him an honorary law degree. But on Monday, the university joined 42 other Catholic institutions in suing the Obama Administration over new Obamacare regulations that force religious institutions to pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization regardless of the employers' moral or religious objections.
The mandate's narrow exemption effectively applies only to churches and other houses of worship; religiously affiliated hospitals, colleges, charities and other non-profits don't qualify for a religious exemption. Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, explained the significance of the Administration's mandate and its impact on those institutions, remarking that, "For the first time in this country's history, the government's new definition of religious institutions suggests that some of the very institutions that put our faith into practice-schools, hospitals, and social service organizations-are not 'religious enough.'"
In total, 12 lawsuits were filed this week challenging the Administration's anti-conscience mandate, and the wide range of organizations joining the legal challenge underscores the enormous opposition to the mandate. Heritage's Sarah Torre explains that the lawsuits span from the Catholic dioceses of Washington, D.C., and Joilet, Illinois, to Catholic Charities of Jackson, Mississippi, and the Michigan Catholic Conference. "The range of the 43 institutions that have joined the dozen suits highlights the variety of Good Samaritan groups harmed by the mandate," Torre writes. "These ministries serve inner-city children, the elderly, deaf, developmentally disabled, HIV/AIDS patients, and homeless-among many others. Catholic outreach, like many other religious groups in America, seeks to serve those most in need."

 | Rumors of War III |
Please take some time to watch this video/documentary produced by Mercury One/Glen Beck. It is scary, and unfortunately Glen has been right on most everything he has reported on.

Part Two: The Fiction and Non-Fiction of Obama
In Part I of this report, we examined President Obama's earliest role models and the influence each likely had on him as he shaped his worldview. With an anti-colonialist father, a mother who rejected Western society, a communist mentor, a domestic-terrorist benefactor, and an anti-Semitic preacher, the reasons behind Obama's past and present actions come more sharply into focus. Below, we navigate through just some of the president's questionable political positions.
"Brave" enough to order the killing Osama bin Laden...but had a back-up memo to blame the military in case it went wrong?
The entire Obama administration along with the American left has heaped praise on the president for his "daring" and "brave" decision to send a Navy SEAL team into an Abottobbad compound to assassinate 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. In fact, Obama has even used the accomplishment as the crux of his latest campaign ad - a move even liberal mediaite Arianna Huffington deemed despicable. Yet in April it was revealed that then-CIA Director Leon Panetta drafted a memo that included an escape clause for the president should the operation go awry [emphasis added]: "The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven's hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out." In plain-speak, Obama chose to blame the military, through "Patsy" Admiral McRaven, should the mission to kill bin Laden fail. Does this sound like something a Commander in Chief would or should ever do? The Wall Street Journal adds:

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

Question with boldness, hold to the truth, and speak without fear. That has been my answer. - Glenn Beck
Since taking to the airwaves, Glenn Beck has been an answer man and a champion for the ideals of America. His 2010 Restoring Honor Rally and his upcoming Restoring Love Rally remind our nation what it means to be an American. On the Glenn Beck Program and GBTV, Glenn continuously fights to be the voice of freedom and warn our nation of the ever-growing power our government possesses. Patrick Henry stated that, "The battle is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave." Glenn Beck is the vigilant, the active, and the brave and for that reason, The Philadelphia Freedom Center is proud to honor him with The Patrick Henry Award and want you to be involved in this wonderful event.

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

If you are concerned about the growing threat of radical Islam and Sharia Law to our great land and you haven't seen a plan of action to meet this evil head on, here's your opportunity to join with us for real, measurable results. Results that make a difference, not just a statement. Our host team is working hard to deliver a day you won't forget. Plan on being there! Registration will start at 7:30 AM with the event starting at 8:30 AM and running through 5:00 PM. Here are a few comments we have received from previous training seminars around the nation:
"...After 8 hours in that chair ............. I was ready for another 8 hours - it seemed to end too soon..." "I was literally stunned. Wow! Brigitte Gabriel has assembled an incredible team to support her message of action and hope!" "...As much as the issue depresses me, and I could cry every time I think about what is happening to the West, I left yesterday's conference energized and inspired. The day reminded me that I am *not* alone, after all, in trying to resist the dangerous absurdity of radical Islam that is being forced on us. I'm in desperate need of such reminders, as I'm sure most of us are. Whenever I'm close to despair, I remind myself of Brigitte's message. Thank you so much for this incredible training day!" "...What an amazing seminar!" "...I have never spent a better $45, 104 miles and 12 hours!" (Previous pricing for a similar event. We're wanting to involve as many as possible from this region, so for this event only, it's free!)

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

*** PENNSYLVANIA ACTION ALERT! *** PLEASE ASK STATE REP. DARYL METCALFE TO HOLD A HEARING ON PENNSYLVANIA'S AMERICAN LAWS FOR AMERICAN COURTS BILL! by Lisa Piraneo, Director of Government Relations and Kelly Cook, National Field Director
As you may know, Pennsylvania State Representative RoseMarie Swanger has introduced HB 2029, common-sense legislation that protects Pennsylvanians' individual constitutional rights from foreign laws or legal doctrines where the application of those laws/doctrines would violate those constitutional rights. No particular foreign law is singled out. The proposal applies to them all. It's that simple. Today, we have a very specific request for you, so we can see this important bill move forward through the legislative process and eventually be signed into law: we need you to respectfully ask the Chairman of the State Government Committee, Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, to hold a hearing on HB 2029-as soon as possible. This important legislation has been moving through the legislature of other states and Pennsylvania should be no exception. It is critical that Rep. Metcalfe understand the level of support HB 2029 has within the state of Pennsylvania! ** IMPORTANT ACTION ITEM ** Please call or e-mail Rep. Daryl Metcalfe today and ask him to both support HB 2029, AND hold a hearing on the bill in his State Government Committee as soon as possible. Let him know how very important this bill is to you and to the people of Pennsylvania. The more support Rep. Metcalfe hears about this bill, the more likely he will be to discuss it in his committee. Contact information for Rep. Metcalfe is as follows: E-mail: dmetcalf@pahousegop.com Office phone - State Capitol: (717) 783-1707 Office phone - Cranberry Township: (724) 772-3110 Today, please respectfully relay the following sentiments respectfully and in your own words, in either an e-mail or phone call. Dear Rep. Metcalfe, I urge you to support HB 2029, legislation introduced by Rep. RoseMarie Swanger-and further to bring this bill up for consideration in your State Government Committee as soon as possible. Rep. Swanger's bill is important, as it protects the constitutional rights of all Pennsylvanians from the incursion of foreign laws and foreign legal doctrines. We must maintain the authority of the Pennsylvania and U.S. Constitutions. This bill is of the utmost importance to me! Thank you for your leadership on this vital matter. Sincerely, (Your name and city)
REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS! IF EACH OF US DOES JUST A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH A LOT!

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. RedState Morning Briefing
For May 24, 2012
1. Bomber Turned Left Wing Activist, Brett Kimberlin, Tries to Silence Conservative Opposition
Tip of the hat to Michelle Malkin, whose May 23 column does one of the best jobs I've seen of laying out the convoluted tale of a low-level Democratic activist named Brett Kimberlin and his attempts to shut down those who criticize him. She applies the "disinfectant of sunshine" to a seamy story that deserves mainstream play.
Brett Kimberlin, subject of the book Citizen K, is the Speedway Bomber. If that is not familiar to you, you might remember him as the man who claimed he sold Vice President Dan Quayle drugs. Kimberlin is also, now, decades later, a left of center activist, former Independent Music Awards Industry Judge, involved in organizations getting Tides Foundation and Heinz Family Foundation grants, and is back in the media for harassing and bullying anyone who mentions his past.
According to the 6th Circuit United States Court of Appeals, Brett Kimberlin was convicted of a series of bombings in Speedway, Indiana, and other drug related matters.
2. Romney closes the gender gap
A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that in the last month Romney has closed his so-called gender gap from 19 to 7 percent. Last month Obama led among women 57 to 38 percent. Now that lead is down to 51 to 44 percent.
The new poll found voters would be split 49 percent for Obama and 46 percent for Romney if the November election were held now, but with regard to whom they prefer on handling the economy, Romney and Obama are tied at 47 percent. That is a 4 percent gain for Romney from last month's Post poll.
3. Well Thank God Nikki Haley Isn't a Democrat Or It'd Be A Hate Crime
If you haven't seen it yet, Newsbusters has the video of South Carolina AFL-CIO president Donna DeWitt beating the hell out of a piñata with a picture of Nikki Haley taped to it. The union crowd cheers her on.
This comes just days after Phil Bailey of the South Carolina Democratic Party called Nikki Haley a "sikh Jesus" multiple times on Twitter.
Were Nikki Haley a Democrat, the media would make this the front page story across the nation - racist tea partiers beating up the minority governor in effigy.
4. The Truly Massive ALEC Protests (Video)
The way the media is covering the ALEC protests, you would imagine they were about as huge as the OWS protests (which were also by and large pathetically attended in comparison to the TEA Party protests but endlessly hyped by the media). Turns out, maybe not so much. Check out this video from Ben Howe about the truly massive anti-ALEC posts in Charlotte.

Tutor a liberal's kids in the ways of conservative righteousness- Lesson 1.
Make them watch The Incredibles- a celebration of courage, responsibility, marriage, achievement, and the family. Key scene is the one where Dash, the boy whose superpower is to run really fast, wants to try out for track but Mom says it wouldn't be fair. "Dad says our powers make us special!" protests Dash. "Everyone is special," says Mom, to which Dash mutters "Which means nobody is!" Over pizza and Coke afterwards, encourage your kids and the liberal's kids to empathize with Dash's rage. Explain: "And that, kids, is why if you hear your teacher saying elitism is bad he's telling you evil lies. The goal in life is to be the best at what you're good at- not to make everyone equal."

An Inconvenient Wisconsin Truth
A funny thing happened on the way to the recall. Government unions organized Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's (R) recall in retaliation for limiting their collective bargaining powers. But the Democratic candidate, Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett, barely mentions the collective bargaining law on the campaign trail. That is probably because-now that they have seen its benefits-most Wisconsin voters want to keep it. By a 53 percent to 38 percent margin, independent voters favor the limits on collective bargaining in government. READ HOW LIMITING COLLECTIVE BARGAINING HAS IMPROVED THE WISCONSIN ECONOMY >>

| Tales of Red Tape #33: Congress Discredits Moms
In its ceaseless quest to protect us from ourselves, Congress in 2009 compelled credit card companies to confirm an applicant's "ability to pay" before approving an account. Lawmakers evidently believe that Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and the like somehow lack incentive to manage their own credit risk. In any event, the Federal Reserve Board subsequently issued the specific regulations called for in the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act (CARD). But the new regulation can hardly be regarded as "fair" as the law is widely interpreted as prohibiting millions of stay-at-home moms from obtaining credit cards of their own. |

Obama can't turn "Bain" into "Halliburton" because even Democrats don't believe it
May 23, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Derrick Hollenbeck, staff writer
Democrats know their supporters are generally not very smart. They know that to get their base to remember and understand a point they have to reduce it to a "four legs: good, two legs: bad" mantra. In recent years they have been very successful with this "reduce it to a bumper sticker" approach. By using Pavlovian conditioning they have trained their followers to foam at the mouth at the words "Gingrich" "DeLay" and "Halliburton." Now they are trying to train their base to throw things at their TV sets when they hear the words "Bain Capital."
So far they have had no success and at this rate they're not likely to achieve their goal. The problem Team Obama has is clear: not even Democrats believe they should hate Bain Capital because Barack Obama says they must.
On Sunday the "Bain Capital is the enemy" scheme took a big hit when Newark mayor and ... Continue Reading:Obama can't turn "Bain" into "Halliburton" because even Democrats don't believe it

The SS SAVANNAH left MAY 22, 1819, from Savannah, Georgia, and 25 days later arrived in Liverpool, England, completing the first trans-Atlantic voyage by steamship. To pay tribute to the American Merchant Marine, President Franklin Roosevelt designated MAY 22, 1933, as National Maritime Day. On May 20, 1986, Ronald Reagan stated: "When steam-powered vessels began to eclipse sailing ships in the latter part of the 19th century, it was largely the result of pioneering work by two Americans, John Fitch and Robert Fulton." In The Thorny Road of Honor, 1856, Hans Christian Anderson wrote: "We are in America, on the margin of one of the largest rivers, an innumerable crowd has gathered, for it is said that a ship is to sail against the wind and weather... The man who thinks he can solve the problem is named Robert Fulton." Hans Christian Anderson continued: "The ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 22

A new poll warns "What's His name": don't pick a Hispanic VP on ethnicity alone

By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Pandering to Hispanics will be a serious mistake for the presumptive Republican nominee. A new Public Policy Poll (PPP) - a self acknowledged Democrat surveying firm - of a large number of Hispanic Florida Colorado and New Mexico respondents, spoken to in both English and Spanish, provides a clear warning for "What's His Name" not to pick a Vice Presidential candidate merely based on ethnicity.
The poll results make it very clear that Hispanics should be appealed to on the same grounds as everyone else who realizes we are in danger of losing our country. It found the economy is the number one issue Hispanics will be thinking about as they go to the polls.
In both Colorado and New Mexico, when asked for a reaction to a Hispanic Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Hispanics said they would still vote 2 to 1 for Barack Obama over the presumptive GOP candidate. The Foundation
"To cherish and stimulate the activity of the human mind, by multiplying the objects of enterprise, is not among the least considerable of the expedients, by which the wealth of a nation may be promoted." --Alexander Hamilton
Editorial Exegesis
"Watching Obama campaign ads or MSNBC, one could easily come to the conclusion that Bain Capital makes money by destroying the companies it owns. So for voters unsure about the business that Mitt Romney founded but still reluctant to trust the financial analysis offered by community organizers, some perspective might be helpful. The basic Obama-liberal critique goes like this: Bain buys a company, loads it with debt and then sucks out cash before foisting the wounded business upon an unsuspecting buyer or a bankruptcy court. In the risk-taking world of private equity such a scenario can certainly happen, and it's true that Bain likes management fees and dividends as much as the next partnership. But then how to explain the history of Bain Capital? Mr. Romney started the business in 1984. The company has since bought and sold many businesses and executed thousands of financing transactions. If Bain's standard operating procedure were to hand the next owner of one of its companies a ticking bankruptcy package, how is Bain still finding buyers nearly three decades later? And who would agree to lend money to a company backed by Bain? Wouldn't word have gotten around by, say, 1987 that Bain's portfolio companies weren't creditworthy? The liberal critique of private equity assumes that the financial industry is full of saps who have been eager to lose money across the table from Bain for 28 years. This is the same financial industry that the same liberal critics say is full of greedy schemers when it comes to padding their own pay or ripping off consumers. But financiers can't be both knaves and diabolical geniuses at the same time. Learning about Bain successes like Staples or Gartner or Steel Dynamics confirms the logical conclusion that Bain had to be creating value along the way -- for investors, for lenders, and that means for workers too." --The Wall Street Journal
How does Bain Capital relate to the presidential election?
Essential Liberty
"Who killed the 20-30 million Soviet citizens in the Gulag Archipelago -- big government or big business? ... Who deliberately caused 75 million Chinese to starve to death -- big government or big business? ... Would there have been a Holocaust without the huge Nazi state? Whatever bad big corporations have done is dwarfed by the monstrous crimes ... committed by big governments." --radio talk-show host Dennis Prager
Upright
"In a typical year, up to 50 million Americans change jobs, often happily. They get hired away, promoted, etc. This process partly explains why America's capitalism has been so much more dynamic than Europe's. In the social market, once you have a job, you cling to it because you may never get another. European governments make it much easier to cling to that job by punishing businesses that fire people. The unhappy byproduct of such 'compassion' is that businesses are also far more reluctant to hire people because each new hire is a potential long-term liability. Yes, Romney created jobs while he was creating value and wealth at Bain; he also destroyed jobs. Both are necessary in a dynamic market that improves the prospects for most Americans through economic growth. Some suffer from the process. But I would argue more people suffer under the social market." --columnist Jonah Goldberg
"Now that Romney is the nominee, it's perfectly understandable -- and rational -- that conservatives would want to get behind him to defeat the far worse Obama. ... However, there's a difference between supporting somebody for pragmatic reasons and deluding oneself into believing that he's somebody he isn't. It's one thing to vote for Romney, but it's another thing to let people convince you that you have to refrain from criticizing him when he does violence to conservative principles, because of the idea that it will help Obama. Conservatives shouldn't confuse being the leader of the Republican Party with being the head of the conservative movement." --columnist Philip Klein
"The fact that so many successful politicians are such shameless liars is not only a reflection on them, it is also a reflection on us. When the people want the impossible, only liars can satisfy them, and only in the short run. The current outbreaks of riots in Europe show what happens when the truth catches up with both the politicians and the people in the long run. Among the biggest lies of the welfare states on both sides of the Atlantic is the notion that the government can supply the people with things they want but cannot afford. Since the government gets its resources from the people, if the people as a whole cannot afford something, neither can the government." --economist Thomas Sowell
Insight
"The main vice of capitalism is the uneven distribution of prosperity. The main vice of socialism is the even distribution of misery." --Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

The Demo-gogues
Anti-capitalism: "If your main argument for how to grow the economy is 'I knew how to make a lot of money for investors', then you're missing what this job is about. That doesn't mean you weren't good at private equity. But that's not what my job is as president. ... This is not a distraction. This is what this campaign's going to be about: Is what is a strategy for us to move this country forward in a way where everybody can succeed?" --Barack Obama renewing attacks on Mitt Romney for his tenure at Bain Capital
"This is not an attack on free enterprise. ... There's something about raping companies and leaving them in debt and setting up Swiss bank accounts and corporate businesses in the Grand Caymans -- I have a real serious problem with that." --Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC)
The man who helped the economy: "Obviously, Chicago residents who had difficulties getting home or getting to work or what have you, you know, that's -- what can I tell you? That's part of the price of being a world city. But this [NATO summit] was a great showcase. And if it makes those folks feel any better, despite being 15 minutes away from my house, nobody would let me go home. I was thinking I would be able to sleep in my own bed tonight. They said I would cause even worse traffic so I ended up staying at a hotel, which contributes to the Chicago economy." --Barack Obama
We can only imagine: "Imagine where we'd be if the Tea Party hadn't taken control of the House of Representatives. ... They have one overwhelming goal: prevent President Obama from a second term, with no -- apparently no care of the consequences to the economy." --Joe Biden
Tax and spend: "We all know we have to reduce the deficit. We have to do it in a balanced way. The speaker wants to go over the edge. We have cut over a trillion dollars in the Budget Control Act -- since the Budget Control Act of last year. There has to be more reductions, but we have to have revenue and we have to have growth." --House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
Pressure: "I trust that [John Roberts] will be a Chief Justice for all of us and that he has a strong institutional sense of the proper role of the judicial branch. The conservative activism of recent years has not been good for the Court. Given the ideological challenge to the Affordable Care Act and the extensive, supportive precedent, it would be extraordinary for the Supreme Court not to defer to Congress in this matter that so clearly affects interstate commerce." --Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy (D-VT), seeking to intimidate the Supreme Court in its ObamaCare ruling
Gotta love him: "I have a beautiful home and you pay me a lot of money." --Joe Biden
Dezinformatsia
Media lemmings: "[R]omney's known as a job destroyer, not a creator. ... I think the idea that you bring in Bain -- which is what happened in the '80s -- they fire a lot of people and that's how they get prosperity for the rich. And that is a more resonant theme, I think, than anything that Romney's come up with." --CNBC's Jim Cramer
Belly Laugh of the Week: "Well, look, it's a free country and I think [opinion news] has its place. It's not my kind of journalism, it's not what I've dedicated myself to.... When I was in the anchor chair and a field reporter before that, my goal was to be an honest broker of information." --ousted CBS anchor Dan "Fake but Accurate" Rather
The BIG Lie: "[Obama's] learned a lot. And, you know, his heart's always been in the right place, and I believe his head is now in the right place. And you certainly -- of course, I can't do endorsements, right? It's a Times' rule. So you have no idea who I prefer in this election. But he certainly is talking sense about the economy, and Mitt Romney is talking utter nonsense. ... [T]he Republican platform is, let's put that doctrine that has just caused collapse in Europe -- let's put that doctrine into effect right here in America." --New York Times columnist Paul Krugman

What more do you want to lead your country than that kind of courage and that kind of intelligence? ... It makes me angry that we can't give this president anything. ... What more do we want this man to do for us, honest to God?" --late-night comedian David Letterman
Busted moral compass: "These laws [banning abortions after 20 weeks] put providers in a position where they have to turn away patients who have great need. I also think they create this impression that abortion providers are callous and allow people to conflate murder and abortion. People feel morally justified to say 'this is wrong' because they're led to think it's close to murder. I think that jeopardizes us, by conflating abortion with an issue that would cause moral outrage." --obstetrician Willie Parker
Forward™:"This November's election will determine whether we get to keep moving forward, or if we're forced to go back to policies that ask people like my middle-class family in Ohio to carry the burden -- while people like me, who don't need tax breaks, get extra help." --actress Sarah Jessica Parker in an email promoting her fundraiser for Obama

Apparently he just skated in 2008 just because he was running for president, and that does not draw a lot [of] media scrutiny, especially when you have the first black one. Romney backs vouchers, more school choice
By Stephen Dinan | Wednesday, May 23, 2012
Mitt Romney vowed Wednesday to expand Washington's school voucher program as part of a broader nationwide push for school choice, and he accused President Obama of failing to fulfill his own education promises from 2008 because he is too beholden to teachers unions.
Opening a new line of attack on the president, Mr. Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, said unions are the chief impediment to education reform, and that Mr. Obama has repeatedly sided with them instead of with parents and students attending failing schools.

It's been breaking news all over MSNBC, liberal blogs, newspapers and even the Wall Street Journal: "Federal spending under Obama at historic lows ... It's clear that Obama has been the most fiscally moderate president we've had in 60 years." There's even a chart!
I'll pause here to give you a moment to mop up the coffee on your keyboard. Good? OK, moving on ...
This shocker led to around-the-clock smirk fests on MSNBC. As with all bogus social science from the left, liberals hide the numbers and proclaim: It's "science"! This is black and white, inarguable, and why do Republicans refuse to believe facts?
Ed Schultz claimed the chart exposed "the big myth" about Obama's spending: "This chart - the truth - very clearly shows the truth undoubtedly." And the truth was, the "growth in spending under President Obama is the slowest out of the last five presidents."

Illegal Aliens Grab BILLIONS in Lucrative Tax Scandal!
I'd like to ask you a simple question: do you support your tax money going directly into the hands of illegal aliens? Last year the government forked over more than $4.2 billion to illegal aliens through the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) -- a credit designed to help American families.
1 Trailer + 4 Illegal Aliens + 20 "Dependents" = $29,608 of YOUR money
FAIR kept you in the loop about the misuse of the ACTC by illegal aliens. But recently, a whistle-blower out of Indiana sparked a local exposé on the abuse of this tax credit. The stories are shocking! Illegal aliens claiming up to 9 nieces and nephews in one tax return. One trailer in Indiana claimed 20 nieces and nephews between 4 illegal aliens and grabbed $29,608 in tax returns. When approached, the illegal alien admitted 19 of these children lived in Mexico and had never set foot in America. When asked why, he shrugged saying he did it because he could! I urge you to see the story for yourself here.
 | 13 Investigates: IRS tax loophole |
FAIR has been working on Capitol Hill to close this loophole and require anyone who receives this benefit to be here legally. I need to know that we have your support. Should we continue to allow OUR tax money to be funneled to illegal aliens through the fraudulent misuse of tax-credits? The House has already passed a provision to require a valid social security number to receive this benefit, but we're facing heavy resistance in the Senate. That's why we need your help now! Cutting off billions of dollars to illegal aliens is not partisan politics; it's the responsible thing to do. Thanks to your generous support, FAIR has been fighting for the rights of Americans for over 30 years. Our credibility and integrity as a public advocacy group is well known in Washington and around the nation. We have built the lasting relationships with legislators and are working with our friends in Congress to close this outrageous and costly loophole once and for all, but we need your help! Your $25, $50, $100 tax-deductible donation will help us save Americans billions of dollars and continue the FAIR fight to restore justice to our immigration system. My sincere thanks, Dan Stein, President P.S. You can also mail your tax-deductible contribution to FAIR at 25 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Suite 330 Washington D.C. 20001, Attn: Membership.

The question isn't, "What is Facebook worth?", the real question is what are we worth? The secret of Facebook is that there is no Facebook, just reams of user data, information voluntarily submitted by hundreds of millions of people in exchange for a free ride, which is monetized by a company that makes nothing except increasingly broken code, by selling ads to companies hoping to convince consumers to buy the products manufactured by their Chinese partners. There is a tremendous generation gap between the old giants which made things and traded them to people for money, and a new generation of companies, which offer connectivity services for free, build a monopoly over some element of the internet, and then squeeze companies looking to connect with consumers. Everyone is out to provide value, collect user information and begin running ads. Behind all the flash and buzzwords is the promise of smarter and better advertising. The only thing keeping companies like Google and Facebook afloat is the same thing that used to keep magazines, newspapers and networks afloat-- advertising. And with users creating and promoting their own content, all the companies need to do is provide the connectivity tools, servers that stay up and an interface that people can figure out. The products of this process have changed our lives, at least insofar as finding directions, having instant access to information and being able to interact with anyone we have ever known is life-changing. But so did the original communications revolution, which brought one standard of programming into homes across an entire nation, and made it possible to hear an event happening, even while it was going on. The latest incarnation of the ongoing communications revolution is more flexible and less centralized than its predecessors because it no longer depends on massive corporations providing content to us. There are no more gravelly voiced announcers telling us what to think about the Vietnam War, in between commercials for sudsy soaps. Or rather they still exist, and if you are desperate you can find Dan Rather still blathering about Nixon and the Vietnam War on HDNet, a failed project of another Dot.com billionaire, and likely the only conceivable place that might still give Keith Olbermann a job, but they don't matter anymore.

The Left Is Getting Clobbered on Twitter
We are in the early stages of the 2012 campaign season, with a lot of battlespace preparation going on. In the skirmishing so far, one perhaps surprising media advantage has become clear: the right is clobbering the left on Twitter.
Maybe it's because Twitter puts a premium on brevity and cleverness. I don't know. But for some reason, it seems to be a natural medium for conservatives. We saw it when the Hilary Rosen interview ("Ann Romney never worked a day in her life") prompted a Twitterstorm. We saw it again when #ObamaEatsDogs exploded, and when #Julia blew up in the White House's face like an exploding cigar. Currently, the White House is promoting #AskMichelle, where loyal Democrats can go to ask the First Lady a question. Only nearly all of the questions have come from conservatives. A sampling:
When you vacation in Hawaii, can you see the rise of the oceans beginning to slow? What's up this week for the @BarackObama campaign and "Operation Change the Subject" (to anything except the economy)? Do you still exchange May Day cards with Bill and Bernadette? Do you think your daughters should request affirmative actions preferences? Do you still get Christmas cards from the Rezkos and Blagojeviches? So who succeeded you at that critical, highly important $300k/year community outreach job at UC hospital? I have several friends who specialize in relocation. Shall I give them your number so they can help you relocate in January?

COMMENTARY: Cheer, Cheer for Old Notre Dame By Terence P. Jeffrey Three years ago, when President Obama spoke at Notre Dame, I optimistically wrote that Notre Dame's greatest comeback might take place, not on an athletic field, but in a conflict over fundamental questions of morality on which the Catholic Church takes an inalterable stand. Well, the Fighting Irish just ran the first play in their comeback drive. Shameless Bias by Omission By L. Brent Bozell III ABC, CBS and NBC don't judge news events by their inherent importance as relates to the future of our freedoms. They deliver the news according to a simple formula: Does it or doesn't it advance the re-election of Barack Obama? If it doesn't, it isn't news. Jaczko the Jerk: Harry Reid's Sexist Crony Gets the Boot By Michelle Malkin Let there be no doubt: If Gregory Jaczko were a Republican, Sen. Boxer, Rep. The Wheels are Very Loose By Rich Galen The wheels aren't coming off the Obama campaign -- yet. But if the past two weeks are any indication, it's time for the campaign to check the lug nuts. NEWSPAPER ROUNDUP: |
Wednesday, May 23, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 167 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Obama Humiliated Again It was a safe bet before yesterday that Arkansas and Kentucky would be in Mitt Romney's column on November 6th. But if anyone deep in the basement of the Obama campaign headquarters was harboring dreams of potential upsets, their hopes were dashed last night when the primary results came in. Obama failed to get even 60% of the vote in either state, as 42% of Democrats in Arkansas and Kentucky refused to vote for Obama. At least there was a challenger on the ballot in Arkansas for folks to vote for. But in Kentucky, there wasn't even another name. Yet 42% of Kentucky Democrats voted for "uncommitted" over Obama. I don't know which is worse: Losing 42% to "uncommitted" or, as happened in West Virginia, losing 41% to a convicted felon behind bars! Gallup: "Pro-Choice" Support At Record Low The latest Gallup poll on abortion has some really encouraging news: The number of Americans identifying as "pro-choice" has fallen to a record low of 41%. Meanwhile 51% of Americans describe themselves as "pro-life." Even these numbers are somewhat misleading. When asked about the legality or availability of abortion, only 25% took Obama's radical view that abortion should be legal "under any circumstance." An overwhelming majority -- 72% -- felt abortion should either be limited or "illegal in all circumstances." This news could not come at a worse time for Obama. In a craven attempt to pander to feminists, Obama picked a fight with the Catholic Church and other religious groups with his so-called "contraception mandate." The move further highlighted Obama's pro-abortion extremism. It's worth noting that the Gallup poll found a big swing among independent voters: A 10-point drop among independents who call themselves "pro-choice" and a six-point increase among independents who call themselves "pro-life." Having said that, it is up to the Romney campaign to embrace the pro-life cause, to reassure values voters that he stands with them and will be an advocate for the inalienable right to life. Obama Tanking In Florida -- Blame Gay Nuptials A new Quinnipiac poll finds Obama losing Florida by six points -- 47%-to-41%. That's a really bad showing for the incumbent president in such a critically important swing state, and I expect the polling will tighten as we approach November 6th. But here's an interesting finding from the Quinnipiac poll: 25% of voters said Obama's embrace of same-sex "marriage" made them less likely to vote for him, while just 11% said they were more likely to do so. Among independent voters, the figures were 23% (less likely) and 9% (more likely). In short, the radical notion that men should "marry" other men is a political loser by a 2-to-1 margin. That's not surprising given that 62% of Florida voters supported a marriage protection amendment in 2008. Again, this issue could cost Obama six or seven states like Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Iowa, Nevada or Wisconsin -- IF the GOP and the Romney campaign don't run away from traditional values in this campaign. Recession Around The Corner? The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office is warning that the country likely faces another recession next year. Predictably, however, the media put most of the blame on scheduled spending cuts. Consider this excerpt from the Associated Press:
"The Congressional Budget Office report says that the economy would shrink by 1.3 percent in the first half of next year if the government is allowed to fall off this so-called 'fiscal cliff' on Jan. 1 -- and that the higher tax rates and more than $100 billion in automatic cuts to the Pentagon and domestic agencies are kept in place."
What the AP fails to mention is that the ratio of tax increases to spending cuts is roughly 5-to-1. The expiration of the Bush tax cuts at the end of this year would raise taxes by nearly $500 billion. By some estimates, the average family would see a tax hike of $3,000. It doesn't take an economist to figure out which policy -- tax increases or spending cuts -- has the greater negative impact on the economy. But the liberal media insist on echoing the left's argument that it is spending cuts. More ObamaCare Slush Funds The Department of Health and Human Services reported Monday that it has awarded a $20 million contract to a public relations firm to promote ObamaCare. So, the Obama Administration is about to spend $20 million of your money trying to convince you to like ObamaCare (and by extension Obama). This is little more than a federally-funded campaign commercial for the president's reelection! HHS says that the ObamaCare law mandated this advertising, so they are obligated by law to spend the money. I don't doubt that at all. I'm sure Obama, Reid and Pelosi thought it would be a grand idea to spend millions of taxpayer dollars promoting their healthcare scheme in the middle of the president's reelection effort. But this PR firm has its work cut out for it. A recent Rasmussen poll found that 56% of Americans want ObamaCare repealed. And they had better hurry -- the Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling next month. Wouldn't it be great if the court struck down the entire law, including the funding for this ad campaign!

Prez Embarrassed in Kentucky, Arkansas...
(Politico) - President Barack Obama continued to have trouble on Tuesday performing in Democratic primaries in traditionally conservative states, barely eking out wins in Kentucky and Arkansas.
The president didn't even have an opponent in Kentucky, but with 99 percent of the vote counted, Obama took just 57.9 percent of the vote, with the remaining more than 42 percent of ballots cast for "uncommitted."
In Arkansas, with 70 percent of the vote tallied, Obama nabbed just 59 percent of the vote. His opponent there, John Wolfe, was able to take 41 percent of the vote at that point, according to The Associated Press.
Wolfe, an attorney from Tennessee whose platform includes repealing "Obamacare," was able to win several counties.
