The Rise of the Saudi Superstate
Posted By Daniel Greenfield
May 15, 2012
The 32nd summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council may be remembered as the dawn of the Caliphate with the Saudi proposal to accelerate the union of the six GCC States likely to dramatically change the region. The union is being described as "EU Style," but in practice it would be a larger version of the United Arab Emirates, a federation of tribal monarchies.
The combined entity would have a 1 trillion dollar GDP and some 35 percent of the world's oil reserves, giving it immeasurable influence on the global stage. And that nucleus of power and wealth would be used to consolidate its influence over rest of the region and the world. If the GCC integrates Yemen, it will be able to turn the Persian Gulf into the Arabian Gulf, and if it integrates Libya, Sudan and Iraq, then it will have a combined population of 100 million and be able to approach the 50 percent world oil reserves marker.
Whether or not the GCC can transition to a Muslim EU, in the words of its charter, "founded on the creed of Islam," is still an open question. In the last five years the GCC has struggled toward adopting a common market and a common currency, its unity undercut by suspicion of the House of Saud and internal rivalries. While Article Four of the GCC Charter had always made unity into a goal of the GCC and previous Riyadh Declarations had called for consolidating their Arab and Islamic identities into a regional union, there was never enough external pressure and internal promise to make that feasible.
Iran's nuclear program and the Arab Spring have changed all that. Saudi Arabia's suppression of Shiite protesters in Bahrain was the first significant use of the GCC's previously inept Peninsula Shield Force. The victory in Bahrain has kept its Sunni monarchy in power and made it dependent on Saudi backing which has also made its officials into the most enthusiastic proponents of the union.
Holding back the Arab Spring in Bahrain was not only a proxy victory against Iran, it also demonstrated that Saudi influence could hold off Western action against GCC members under its umbrella and gave added weight to Saud Al-Faisal's call for a combined military and foreign policy. Saudi Arabia can offer GCC members the protection of its enormous influence in the West, as well as one of the largest armies in the region, armed and trained by the United States, and an eventual nuclear umbrella.
The Obama Administration has left the nations of the region with very few options. They can either wait for America and Europe to hand them over to the Muslim Brotherhood on a democratic platter. They can become puppets of Iran. They can long for the return of a Turkish Ottoman Empire under the AKP. Or they can look to the Saudis for leadership and aid.
The Arab Spring has set two Caliphate movements on track. The Muslim Brotherhood's Caliphate which is to consist of the Arab Socialist countries whose governments were overthrown in the Arab Spring, Egypt and Tunisia, and possibly Syria and Libya. And the GCC, a more traditional Caliphate of tribal monarchs with oil wealth.

By Debbie Schlussel
DebbieSchlussel.com has learned that Gitmo terrorist lawyer, Cheryl T. Bormann, bragged to colleagues that she is related to the late top Nazi official, Martin Bormann. Bormann was Adolf Hitler's private secretary, head of the Nazi Party Chancellery, and a Reich Leader. He named his first-born son after Hitler, who was his son's godfather. (Check out the many pics of Bormann with his buddy Adolf.) And, sources say, that Cheryl Bormann wasn't exactly embarrassed by and didn't condemn the behavior of her prominent Nazi relative. In fact, the sources say they were shocked when Bormann rather indifferently noted she was related to him and seemed to be proud of the association. She told acquaintances that her uncle, who lived on an Illinois farm, was questioned by U.S. intelligence officials during World War II about whether or not he had contact with Martin Bormann. When he told them he did not, they left him alone.

 | Rumors of War III |
Please take some time to watch this video/documentary produced by Mercury One/Glen Beck. It is scary, and unfortunately Glen has been right on most everything he has reported on.

Part Two: The Fiction and Non-Fiction of Obama
In Part I of this report, we examined President Obama's earliest role models and the influence each likely had on him as he shaped his worldview. With an anti-colonialist father, a mother who rejected Western society, a communist mentor, a domestic-terrorist benefactor, and an anti-Semitic preacher, the reasons behind Obama's past and present actions come more sharply into focus. Below, we navigate through just some of the president's questionable political positions.
"Brave" enough to order the killing Osama bin Laden...but had a back-up memo to blame the military in case it went wrong?
The entire Obama administration along with the American left has heaped praise on the president for his "daring" and "brave" decision to send a Navy SEAL team into an Abottobbad compound to assassinate 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. In fact, Obama has even used the accomplishment as the crux of his latest campaign ad - a move even liberal mediaite Arianna Huffington deemed despicable. Yet in April it was revealed that then-CIA Director Leon Panetta drafted a memo that included an escape clause for the president should the operation go awry [emphasis added]: "The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven's hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out." In plain-speak, Obama chose to blame the military, through "Patsy" Admiral McRaven, should the mission to kill bin Laden fail. Does this sound like something a Commander in Chief would or should ever do? The Wall Street Journal adds:

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

"...After 8 hours in that chair ............. I was ready for another 8 hours - it seemed to end too soon..." "I was literally stunned. Wow! Brigitte Gabriel has assembled an incredible team to support her message of action and hope!" "...As much as the issue depresses me, and I could cry every time I think about what is happening to the West, I left yesterday's conference energized and inspired. I'm in desperate need of such reminders, as I'm sure most of us are. Whenever I'm close to despair, I remind myself of Brigitte's message. Thank you so much for this incredible training day!" The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!
I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!
Dear Patriot, About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies. When we finished, we had created a 122-page, 20,000-word dossier that documents a disturbing cross-section of fibs, falsehoods, and fabrications that our President has used to win votes while implementing his radical agenda. Go here to see a larger image of the cover and the full list of 69 Obama Lies we have documented: http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013 + + The Lies that got Obama elected... 69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy. They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core. Let's be clear -- it was these "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward. But we don't stop there.... + + Obama's "Big Government" Lies 69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy. It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...
The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie... The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie... The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie... The "Government Motors" Lie... The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie... The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...
+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies... 69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs. We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed. And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources. You get the actual words of Obama set against the truth -- the LIE next to the reality check. Go here to request your copies and see the complete list of 69 Lies: http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013 + + 69 Obama Lies Begins Shipping In Two Weeks! If you can help Grassfire with a contribution of ANY AMOUNT (even a few dollars to cover printing and shipping), we'll send you TWO COPIES of "69 Obama Lies" -- one to keep and one to share with a friend. We have asked the printer to rush the first printing of 69 Obama Lies so we can get this resource into our team members' hands as quickly as possible. As a result, we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23.
In order to be included in our first shipment, please let me hear from you as soon as possible. Go here to request your two copies:
http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013 I truly believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough and most important resource Grassfire has ever created. And I want to put it in the hands of every Grassfire team member. Please take a moment to order your two copies of 69 Obama Lies today, and thanks for the stand you are taking. Steve Elliott Grassfire Nation
P.S. As I write, the manuscript is going to the printer and we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23. The first print run of our last resource quickly sold out. Please go here to see the complete list of 69 Obama Lies and to order your copies:
http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013
Patriots, this booklet will assist in setting the record straight with swing voters, moderates, and even Democrats! Then obtain multiple copies of this booklet and share with friends, neighbors, co-workers, church family, and your tea party. To win we must be equipped! Bring Out Your Dead! Obama Regime Launches National Drive to Counter Voter-ID Laws
Posted on May 20, 2012 by Cowboy Byte
President Obama's reelection campaign launched a national drive Friday to counter new restrictive voter-access laws, which advisers said threaten his electoral chances in November.
Organizers will fan out in key swing states this weekend to teach volunteers and voters how to navigate a series of laws passed by Republican-controlled state legislatures imposing stricter identification requirements, limiting early voting and making it harder to organize voter-registration drives.

U.S. soldiers forced to wear U.N. logo?
Appeal explains Clinton's secret executive order
An Old Case with new Info
Tuesday, May 20, 2012
In the 1990s, conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly wrote a moving description of the plight of U.S. Army Specialist E-4 Michael G. New, a medic in the Third Infantry Division who was drummed out of the military because he refused to wear the uniform of the United Nations.
"When American soldiers were killed over Iraq," she wrote, "Vice President Al Gore told the widows and orphans of those men that 'they died in the service of the United Nations.' That wasn't a slip of the tongue; his words reveal the Clinton administration's plan to use our armed forces as U.N. mercenaries all over the world at the whim of U.N. bureaucrats."
Schlafly said New had "raised the flag of patriotism against the Clinton-Gore goal."
"Michael New's trial is our battle, if we care about America," she wrote.
What if New was right all along, and the order to don the U.N. emblems was unlawful, as he argued throughout his dispute with his commanding officers at his court-martial and throughout the appeals process?
It would mean that prosecutors in the Clinton administration withheld exculpatory evidence, deceived a judge in the case and misled defense counsel to stamp out what could have been a rebellion against illegal orders to serve under the banner of the international political group.
That's the very assertion in a new and unprecedented appeal to the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals in a "Petition for Extraordinary Relief in the Nature of a Writ of Error."
It is being filed by Herbert W. Titus, of counsel with the law firm of William J. Olson, P.C.

Surprise endorsement of Walker by liberal newspaper
Rick Moran
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is the largest newspaper in Wisconsin and has a decidedly liberal tilt. The paper opposed Governor Scott Walker's collective bargaining reform and takes a dim view of Republicans in general.
But to their credit, they see no reason to recall the Republican governor:
No governor in recent memory has been so controversial. No governor in America is so polarizing. Everyone has an opinion about Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin. Here's ours: We see no reason to remove Walker from office. We recommend him in the June 5 recall election.

Victory Center" on Facebook
-Gabriel Malor
Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on. 1. Barack Obama Will Not Defeat The Taliban
We have reached an endpoint of sorts in the decade-long Afghanistan War. President Obama will not keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan to defeat the Taliban and force them to accept terms of any kind. Have we lost the war? Should we have left years ago, or never gone in? That depends on your view of what we were fighting for and about in the first place.
2. Obama allows your children to go swimming for one more summer
Last week, news was made as today's deadline approached for commercial and municipal swimming pool owners to install means, by which disabled swimmers could enter the nation's swimming pools. It is the kind of regulation that would make a great punch line for the conservative version of the Daily Show, if conservatives were that funny. The Obama Administration has recently construed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Standards for Accessible Design to apply to the act of swimming.
Today, this regulation was supposed to go into effect, opening up the owners to $100,000 fines as well as trial lawyer liability. However, thanks to the kindness of the Justice Department, existing pools now have until January 2013 to comply.
3. Democrats Question Republicans' Patriotism Over Debt Fight
With House Republicans (and their few allies in the Senate) gearing up for another battle over whether to raise the national debt limit without doing anything to cut spending, Democrats (and their many allies in the media) are falling back on their favored tactic of attacking the other side's motives, this time accusing Republicans of deliberately harming the economy for partisan gain. This is either a sign of Democratic desperation or, perhaps, proof that the Democrats are so far down the rabbit hole they cannot even comprehend why anyone would want to reduce spending when the nation has spent itself so deeply into debt.
The irony, of course, is that Democrats are the first people to shriek and run to the media's self-appointed civility police when they feel their patriotism is being questioned; it's always a big applause line for Democrats to claim that they will never question anyone's patriotism...
4. State Voices: National Progressive Network Funding Local Progressive "Grassroots"
State Voices, a national network of Progressive 501(c)3?s, has targeted Colorado for years. They provide GOTV technology, polling data, various other political advocacy tools, and cash to state affiliates such as the Colorado Civic Engagement Roundtable.
The biographies for State Voices national staff tout connections to the AFL-CIO, Common Cause, the Sierra Club, and ACORN to name a few. Joanne Wright and Camellia Phillips were both longtime ACORN employees, working as deputy political director and assistant director of development, respectively. Joanne's switch to State Voices has provided her with a handsome monetary benefit. The group's 2009 and 2010 tax reports total her income to nearly a quarter of a million dollars in those two years alone.
5. Divide, Conquer & Destroy: NLRB Region Unleashes Micro-Unit On Retailer
Over the course of the last two years, Barack Obama's union appointees at the National Labor Relations Board have been waging a war against America's union-free workplace. While the NLRB's prosecution of the Boeing Company for the alleged "crime" of opening a non-union pant in South Carolina captured much media attention, when taken in their totality, the less-reported decisions and rule-making that Obama's appointees have issued is, to America's union-free workplace, akin to a death by a thousand cuts.
6. The Earmark Battle That Won't Subside
It seems that every week in Washington brings forth another story of Republicans trying to abjure the moratorium on earmark. On Friday, the Hill posted an article on the latest and greatest from the earmarxists.

Are There Two Obama Scandals Brewing in Syria?
When a delegation of Syrian Kurdish rebels recently visited Washington, D.C., the State Department met them to ask for a favor. What was it? The Obama administration urged them to join the Syrian National Council (SNC), the organization created by the U.S. government through Turkey to lead the opposition movement and receive Western aid for all Syrian opposition groups. But the Turkish Islamist regime, which Obama put in charge of forming the SNC, put the Muslim Brotherhood in control, a fact I pointed out within hours of the announcement of the SNC leadership's names. Now that several SNC leaders have resigned complaining about Brotherhood domination, followed by some Arab journalists pointing out the obvious Brotherhood domination at the SNC's last meeting, that reality is clear. But the implications of such an incredibly foolish policy-America putting an anti-American, antisemitic group into the "official" leadership of Syria's rebels - have never been properly examined as a case study for Obama's disastrous Middle East policy. The Kurds had walked out of the talks that formed the SNC last year when they saw how Islamists would be in control. Not only do they oppose Islamism itself but they also see the Brotherhood as an Arabizing and centralizing group that would impose a regime oppressing the non-Arab Kurds. The new U.S. effort so backfired that, with the Obama administration ignoring their concerns, the enraged Kurds in the delegation spoke for the first time of breaking up Syria altogether!

Why I Won't Be Going to The Salute to Israel Parade (And Urge You To Stay Home Also)
On June third hundreds of Synagogues within reasonable distance of Manhattan will be renting buses, carpooling and finding other means of transportation to show their love of the Jewish State, at the annual Salute to Israel Parade (now called Celebration Israel).
This year I have made the difficult decision to stay home, and I urge you to talk to your Rabbi's and Synagogue boards to stay home also.
It wasn't until after last year's parade that I realized the New Israel Fund (NIF) was allowed to march. Marching with the the NIF with their own banners were other anti-Israel groupsB'Tselem, and Partners for Progressive Israel.
Parade organizers were asked, and refused to dis-invite NIF from this year's celebration.
By staying home we are condemning the participation of these anti-Israel groups in a parade supposed to celebrate our connection to our spiritual homeland.
Two cables released in theWikileaksdump last year show the NIF for what it is a foreign-funded group dedicate to the de-legitimization of the state of Israel.

Fatwa on Women | Cell Phone Use Punished by Acid in Face May 20, 2012 07:09 pm
Pakistani Women Writers Denounce Islamic Clerics' Fatwas Against Women's Use Of Cell Phones And Access To Secular Education Former Pakistani lawmaker and cleric Maulana Abdul Haleem recently issued a fatwa (Islamic degree) against secular education and justifying honor killings of women.[1]The fatwa was issued in a sermon during a weekly Friday prayer in Kohistan district in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Haleem also threatened that women from secular NGOs who visit Kohistan district may be married off forcibly to local men. In a similar incident, a cleric announced a fatwa in a mosque in Noshki town of Pakistan's Baluchistan province, justifying acid attacks on women who use cell phones.
The Legacy of Vidal Sassoon May 20, 2012 04:14 pm
I first became aware of Vidal Sassoon's rise to prominence about 45 years ago as a young student at Cambridge University. It was the age of Beatlemania, the heyday of the fashion designer Mary Quant and her mini-skirts, of the celebrity photographer David Bailey, the spirit of Carnaby Street and the slightly hysterical excitement of "Swinging London." Vidal Sassoon was part of that universal "Youthquake," of a newly affluent and style-obsessed Western consumer society.
Tensions in Tripoli: The Syrian Crisis and its Impact on Lebanon May 20, 2012 03:48 pm
Recent days have seen violent clashes around Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city located in the north of the country, between Alawite supporters of the Syrian regime and Sunni backers of the anti-Assad opposition forces. To many observers, this violent escalation came as a surprise, in light of the widespread assumption that Lebanon had so far been immune to the "Arab Spring." In fact, the opposite is the case: the regional turmoil has been felt keenly within Lebanon. This is especially the case regarding the domestic effect of the ongoing Syrian crisis. The events in Syria have had a major impact on Lebanon, primarily because of the tight economic, political, and geostrategic relations that historically have linked the two countries.

When Jordan's Arab Legion seized half of Jerusalem, ethnically cleansed its Jewish population and annexed the city-- the only entity to recognize the annexation was the United Kingdom which had provided the officers and the training that made the conquest possible. Officers like Colonel Bill Newman, Major Geoffrey Lockett and Major Bob Slade, under Glubb Pasha, better known as General John Bagot Glubb, whose son later converted to Islam, invaded Jerusalem and used the Muslim forces under their command to make the partition and ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem possible. Since then, the annexation and ethnic cleansing has become an international mandate. It would be absolutely inconceivable for the international community to denounce an ethnically cleansed group which survived attempted genocide for moving back into a city where they had lived. It is, however, standard policy at the State Department and the Foreign Office to denounce Jews living in those parts of Jerusalem that had been ethnically cleansed by Muslims, as "settlers" living in "settlements," and describe them as an "obstruction to peace." Peace being the state of affairs that sets in when an ethnic cleansing goes unchallenged. Describing Jewish homes in Jerusalem, one of the world's oldest cities, a city that all three religions in the region associate with Jews and Jewish history, as "settlements" is a triumph of distorted language that Orwell would have to tip his hat to. How does one have "settlements" in a city older than London or Washington D.C.? To understand that, you would have to ask London and Washington D.C., where the diplomats insist that one more round of Israeli compromises will bring peace to the region. They say that there are three religions in Jerusalem, but there are actually four. The fourth religion is the true Religion of Peace, the one that demands constant blood sacrifices to make peace possible, that insists that there will be peace when the Jews have been expelled from Judea and Samaria, driven out of their homes in Jerusalem, and made into wanderers and beggars once again. Oddly enough, this religion's name isn't even Islam-- it's diplomacy. Diplomacy says that the 1948 borders set by Arab countries invading Israel should be the final borders and that, when Israel reunified a sundered city in 1967, it was an act of aggression, while, when seven Arab armies invaded Israel in 1948, it was a legitimate way to set boundaries. When Jordan ethnically cleansed East Jerusalem, it set a standard that Israelis are obligated to follow to this day by staying out of East Jerusalem.

A Force for Liberty from China to Cuba
On Saturday night, blind Chinese legal activist Chen Guangcheng arrived in Newark, N.J., after escaping seven years of persecution in China. With the sweet land of liberty under his feet, Chen breathed the free air and remarked, "We should link our arms to continue in the fight for the goodness in the world and to fight against injustice." Chen's newfound freedom is a cause for celebration, but it is also a reminder that America must continue to be a force for liberty in the world, whether on the other side of the world or 90 miles off the shores of Florida. A 40-year-old self-taught lawyer, Chen was imprisoned for four years, placed under house arrest and suffered beatings after voicing opposition to communist China's one-child policy, which brings with it government-forced abortions, coerced sterilizations, and fines or physical abuse for neighbors and family members of women with unauthorized pregnancies. Last month, he escaped the grip of Chinese authorities and found refuge in the U.S. Embassy. After a series of negotiations, Chen and his immediate family won their freedom -- he is now a legal fellow at New York University Law School. Chen's case brings to light the reality of modern-day China -- a country that has been radically transformed over the last 30 years thanks to economic development. But as much as the country has changed, much remains the same. Heritage's Walter Lohman explains:
China is a place that has not changed since the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989 when it comes to respect for the fundamental rights of its people. This is sometimes hard for the diplomats, scholars, businessmen, and tourists who spend time there to believe. Likewise, there are many privileged, worldly Chinese who fail to see it. The People's Republic of China is an authoritarian, yes, 'communist' nation. This China is Chen's day-to-day reality. And it is a brutal reality for many hundreds of millions more. U.S.-China relations will never be normal as long as the Chinese regime is what it is.
Chen sees the Chinese government for the authoritarian beast that it is, and he has won international acclaim for his activism. "I am not a hero," he said. "I'm just doing what my conscience asks me to do. I cannot be silent when facing these evils against women and children." The United States should not be silent, either. China, though, is not the only communist government standing in the way of freedom. Just off the Florida Keys, the Castro regime continues to hold an iron grip on the Cuban people. Yesterday marked the 110th year of Cuba's independence, but sadly 53 of those years have been spent under the Castros' dictatorship. Political opposition is not tolerated, those who stand against the regime are harassed and persecuted, all forms of media and communications are under government control, and freedoms of speech and association are suppressed. There is hope for Cuba. In a new paper, Heritage's Ray Walser writes that the Castro regime is on the verge of extinction but is working to ensure the country's communist system continues. He advises that the United States should stand for freedom and press for genuine democracy in Cuba. That means not appeasing the dictatorial regime, backing genuine economic transformation, challenging Cuba's information blockade, and establishing clear yardsticks for democratic change, including independent political parties, free and fair elections, freedom of information, expression, and association, and respect for human rights. "Failure to stand with the advocates of genuine economic and political change in Cuba and to press for a policy of true transition and genuine democracy could condemn yet another generation of Cubans to lives without freedom, opportunity, or hope," Walser writes. Indeed, the United States can be a powerful force for freedom -- whether it's for one Chinese activist standing up in a country of one billion, or if it's for one tiny island surrounded by a vast ocean. But America must choose to stand up for the light of liberty, not turn away from the darkness.

Why is the U.S. doing Special Ops exercise with Egypt and Pakistan?
By Shoshana Bryen
NATO's snub of Israel -- a "major non-NATO ally" and member of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue -- in its Chicago summit this weekend was simply waved away. "Israel is neither a participant in ISAF nor in KFOR (Afghanistan and Kosovo missions)," said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Israel didn't belong there, and that's that. In the same press conference, however, Rasmussen acknowledged that thirteen other "partner" nations would attend because "[i]n today's world security challenges know no borders, and no country or alliance can deal with most of them on their own."
Perhaps he, or someone, believes that Israel has nothing to contribute to meeting "today's security challenges."
Pundits quickly assumed that Turkey -- a full NATO member -- had vetoed Israel's participation, as it vetoed IDF participation in NATO exercises in the Mediterranean. Rasmussen denied it -- and maybe he's right, because that's not the only place where Israel is having trouble with its presumed military partners.
The Obama administration claims a special relationship with Israel. The State Department says the "security relationship with Israel is broader, deeper, and more intense than ever before." Assistant Secretary of Sate Andrew Shapiro told a Washington audience, "One of my primary responsibilities is to preserve Israel's Qualitative Military Edge [QME][.]" QME is generally defined as Israel's ability to defeat any likely constellation of conventionally armed adversaries.
And yet...
The U.S. and Israel were to have combined thousands of soldiers in April for what had been billed as the largest missile defense exercise in Israel's history. The objective was to "create a high level of interoperability so that, if needed, US missile defense systems would be able to work with Israeli systems during a conflict." The exercise was canceled amid conflicting accounts having to do with funding, not wanting to alarm Iran, and "administrative issues."
But while "Austere Challenge" was being back-burnered, the U.S. was moving forward with plans for a Special Operations exercise in Jordan. Special Operations is the cream of the American military -- a joint force, highly trained to do "special" things. Its own website notes that its job is in part to "Deter, Disrupt & Defeat Terrorist Threats" and to "Obtain Persistent Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Systems." Operating in small groups in hostile environments, Special Operators is known for its speed and lethality.
Counterterrorism operatives and terrorist operatives alike covet their skills because to have the skills goes a long way toward defeating them in others. So with whom are we sharing capabilities, some of which were developed and enhanced in cooperation with Israel?

Wishful Thinking in the White House
Posted: 21 May 2012 02:30 PM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Today President Obama was asked about his campaign's attacks on Mitt Romney's years with Bain Capital and whether Cory Booker was right in suggesting that he should back off on that theme. Instead of backing off, Obama doubled down, telling the questioner that Romney's Bain experience "is not a distraction, this is what this campaign is gonna be about." No, Mister Obama: this campaign is going to be about your record as president.
Here is the video. Obama displays his trademark incoherence as he tries to explain why Bain Capital is central to the campaign. Asked a multi-part question that included his views on private capital, he starts to say that the distinctive feature of private capital is that the people who run such firms are focused on making a profit. Then you can see the wheels turning as he realizes that what he just said didn't make any sense, since it didn't distinguish private capital from any other business. So he backs up and starts over, explaining that as president, he has to think about more than just making a profit; rather he has to think about all Americans' well-being. That is true enough, of course, as far as it goes. But right now the form of well-being that Americans are most concerned about is a better job market. Businesses grow when they are profitable, and they hire employees when they grow. Obama reveals himself as just another in a long line of liberals who claim they want more and better jobs, but can't bring themselves to endorse the profits that alone make jobs possible.

The Church against Obamacare: The lawsuits
Posted: 21 May 2012 12:40 PM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
In a story we've been following for several months now, Terry Jeffrey reports today's development:
The Archdiocese of New York, headed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., headed by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the University of Notre Dame, and 40 other Catholic dioceses and organizations around the country announced on Monday that they are suing the Obama administration for violating their freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The dioceses and organizations, in different combinations, are filing 12 different lawsuits filed in federal courts around the country.
The Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. has established a special website-preservereligiousfreedom.org-to explain its lawsuit and present news and developments concerning it.
Jeffrey's story continues:
"This lawsuit is about an unprecedented attack by the federal government on one of America's most cherished freedoms: the freedom to practice one's religion without government interference," the archdiocese says on the website. "It is not about whether people have access to certain services; it is about whether the government may force religious institutions and individuals to facilitate and fund services which violate their religious beliefs."
The suits filed by the Catholic organizations focus on the regulation that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced last August and finalized in January that requires virtually all health-care plans in the United States to cover sterilizations and all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptives, including those that can cause abortions.
The Catholic Church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong and that Catholics should not be involved in them. Thus, the regulation would require faithful Catholics and Catholic organizations to act against their consciences and violate the teachings of their faith.
Earlier, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops had called the regulation an "unprecedented attack on religious liberty" and asked the Obama administration to rescind it.
"We have tried negotiation with the Administration and legislation with the Congress-and we'll keep at it-but there's still no fix," Cardinal Dolan, who is also president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said in a statement released by the conference this morning.
"Time is running out, and our valuable ministries and fundamental rights hang in the balance, so we have to resort to the courts now," the cardinal said. "Though the Conference is not a party to the lawsuits, we applaud this courageous action by so many individual dioceses, charities, hospitals and schools across the nation, in coordination with the law firm of Jones Day. It is also a compelling display of the unity of the Church in defense of religious liberty. It's also a great show of the diversity of the Church's ministries that serve the common good and that are jeopardized by the mandate-ministries to the poor, the sick, and the uneducated, to people of any faith or no faith at all."
Cardinal Dolan's New York Archdiocese filed suit today in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York. Joining the archdiocese as plaintiffs in the suit are the Catholic Health Care Sytem, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, Catholic Charities of Rockville Centre, and Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
This lawsuit must be a source of great annoyance to the Obama administration. The administration wants to keep the issue out of view until the election is over, and I am sure the mainstream media will do the best it can. To the extent that attention is paid, the administration wants the credulous to believe that opposition to Obamacare's "preventive services" regulation constitutes one front in the fictitious "war on women" touted by the administration and its supporters in the mainstream media.
If you're paying attention, you might begin to think that the administration and others responsible for the enactment of Obamacare are responsible for a war on Catholic institutions. That war is not only real, it is itself only one front in a larger war, though it is perfectly symbolic of it.

Does Jeremiah Wright have a place in this campaign? Part Three
Posted: 21 May 2012 08:01 AM PDT
(Paul Mirengoff)
I have enormous respect for Karl Rove. So I was disappointed to hear him say, on Fox News Sunday, that it is "stupid" for Republicans to raise questions about Barack Obama's association with Rev. Wright because "the issue was litigated four years ago by John McCain deciding not to litigate it."
Litigated by virtue of not being litigated? This is lawyer talk; the language of Barack Obama. It's not the way to think about elections. In elections, all that should matter is whether a line of attack will be effective and whether it is fair enough. Whether a line of attack could or should have been raised earlier is irrelevant. Doctrines like collateral estoppel and waiver have no place in political campaigns.
It is true that more should have been made of Rev. Wright in 2008. But the question of how much to make of him and other radical associates of Obama in 2012 is an independent one; it should be decided on its own merits. Remember too that what Americans might not have wanted to hear when they were falling in love with Obama, they may be receptive to hearing now that they have fallen out of love.
As to the merits, two main arguments are invoked for shying away from Wright and other radical Obama associates. First, now that Obama has a four year record, the issue is no longer what Obama's past associations tell us about the kind of president he will be. His record tells us what kind of president he is, and attacks should focus on that record.
Clearly, Obama's record is the overriding issue in this campaign. But it's not the only issue. Obama has said that his policies are subject to change once he doesn't have to worry about being re-elected. At a minimum, his past associations provide good evidence of the direction of such changes.
Moreover, presidential elections aren't just about issues; they are about the person in whom we are entrusting our highest office. George W. Bush's military service, raised when he ran for re-election, wasn't about issues; it was about character. That's precisely why the issue, as bogusly presented by CBS News, was a threatening one.
The second argument for shying away from Wright is that raising the issue will backfire, as pro-Obama forces accuse Romney of personal attacks and racism. But Romney need not, and should not, make the attacks; nor should the major PACs that back him. If the issue is raised -- after testing it with focus groups - it should be raised by lesser groups, as was the case with ads attacking John Kerry over his military service.
I see no reason, moreover, to fear push back from Team Obama and the MSM. Obama's associations are personal in a sense, but when it comes to associating with anti-American radicals, the personal is truly the political. In any case, this line of attack is no more personal than those that will be hurled at Romney.
Finally, attempts to paint usage of the Obama-Wright connection as racist might well be dismissed by voters as a whiney and unbecoming evasion. It's not racist to be disturbed by the fact that Obama chose a rabidly anti-American, who happens to be Black, as his spiritual leader. And, of course, Obama's associations with white radicals can be invoked as part of the same line of attack.
If Republicans could profit from attacking John Kerry in connection with his service to America in a bloody war, they should not rule out attacking Barack Obama for his close association with anti-American leaders. And if it actually would be counterproductive to attack Obama on this basis because the electorate would deem the attack racist, then America has changed so dramatically that conservatives should consider giving up politics and cultivating their gardens.

A word from Tom Lipscomb on "Pow Wow Chow"
Posted: 21 May 2012 04:17 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
Over at Breitbart, Michael Patrick Leahy asks "Will Harvard Law School condemn Elizabeth Warren for Pow Wow Chow plagiarism?" Well, I can answer that question. More importantly, drawing on his background as publisher of Times Books, an optimistic Tom Lipscomb writes to comment on Leahy's post:
A fine piece.
Pierre Franey was my author and did the best-selling cookbook THE 60 MINUTE GOURMET...he was Craig Claiborne's partner. We published it at Times Books and I have one with a nice dedicatory epistle (note to authors.... a good idea to curry favor with your publisher and cheap, use HIS copy).
Both Franey's crab recipes (a/k/a Ye Olde Oklahoma Cherokee recipes) Granny Dum Dum swiped are RIGHT THERE in a bestselling cookbook on pages 308-309. We printed over 100,000 copies.
So add incredibly stupid, to Warren being a liar, a fraud, and a plagiarist.
And scariest of all...The greatest danger to a Democrat running for office in MA is not the GOP candidate but a split between town and gown of any kind. For some reason (because they know it so well?) a Harvard association is not a feature candidates want to flaunt in MA.
And now Warren is having questions of her probity raised by a dark horse Italian American female Dem Primary challenge...! Not a happy development for Warren. I can't wait to see the reason she withdraws and the Dems give up on the seat.
And what was that crucial Czar position again Obama tried to appoint her to that those pesky Republicans blocked?

Monday, May 21, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 169 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS NAACP Covers For Obama The governing board of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) endorsed same-sex "marriage" over the weekend. The move is not likely to go over well with blacks, many of whom were not pleased with Obama's endorsement of same-sex "marriage" either. I suspect many will view this announcement as a political decision intended to give Obama cover with his base. But politics aside, it is complete nonsense. The socio-economic status of black Americans has declined over the last few decades. We have an emerging black middle class, but the percentage of out-of-wedlock births, the number of abandoned black women, the number of black men incarcerated, etc., have all gone up and in some cases dramatically so. The NAACP's marriage to liberal ideology has been a failure. The unemployment rate among blacks is a staggering 13%. Yet, the leaders of the NAACP got together this weekend and decided that a top priority for their organization was men "marrying" other men. How does that help the black family, which is already suffering from a lack of men in the home? If black leaders want to come up with a plan to address the ills of the black community and restoring fathers to their children and mothers is not at the top of their list, then they are not helping the black community. The NAACP's decision pits the breakdown of the black family versus the demand of a largely white, upper-income sexual minority to redefine the meaning of marriage. That would seem to be an easy choice. But NAACP leaders chose to spend their political capital fighting for the interests of San Francisco and Greenwich Village. In doing so, they risk losing the moral authority of the people they claim to represent. Militant Homosexual Movement Demands More One might have thought that Obama's embrace of same-sex "marriage" would be enough for the radicals, but evidently it's not. Politico reports that the militant homosexual rights movement is demanding more, including legislation that could lead to homosexual hiring quotas. Many left-wing activists think now is the time to turn up the pressure on the White House, which is increasingly desperate to energize the liberal base as we get closer to Election Day. For the moment, the White House is pushing back. Don't misunderstand me -- I'm not suggesting that Obama doesn't want to do these things. But their demands are untimely for Obama. If he keeps focusing on these radical issues and not economy, he risks alienating far more voters. But if Obama is reelected, we will see him pursue every item on their wish list. Rubio Rips Obama During a speech before the South Carolina Republican Party this weekend, Florida Senator Marco Rubio ripped into Barack Obama's class warfare rhetoric. Rubio warned that Obama and his allies are desperate to divide us because it is their only hope of winning this election. Noting how Obama raised so many hopes in 2008, Rubio remarked, "The man who today occupies the White House and is running for president is a very different person. We have not seen such a divisive figure in modern American history as we have over the last three and a half years." You can watch Rubio's speech here. The "Wright Stuff" Marco Rubio is right, and I hope the Romney campaign and the Republican Party are ready for it. Obama and his left-wing media allies won't give up their power easily, and they will do whatever they think they need to do in order to win. For example, did you hear about the Mountain Meadows Massacre? More than 100 people died. I'm not surprised if you missed that news. It didn't happen yesterday or last week even, but in 1857. Nevertheless, the Washington Post felt a little history lesson was worth bringing up today just to remind readers that Mitt Romney's faith could be a problem for some voters. And, by the way, a reporter for the New York Times recently visited Mitt Romney's church to examine the "biographical influence of faith on Mitt Romney's life." We're not supposed to talk about Jeremiah Wright, but reporters for the Times are snooping around Romney's church, and the Post is dredging up the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857? Give me a break! Thank you to everyone who participated in our online poll and took the time to email your thoughts about Jeremiah Wright and the 2012 campaign. While some folks felt Wright is a distraction from the main issues, our supporters OVERWHELMINGLY believed that Wright should be an issue in this campaign. I've got some more thoughts on Reverend Wright in my weekly Human Events column.

Political Futures
Some say Romney should adopt McCain's (losing) strategy.
"Well, that didn't take long. No sooner had the idea surfaced in the house organ of the Obama reelection campaign -- that would be the New York Times -- that a Romney super PAC funded by conservative billionaire Joe Ricketts was contemplating attack ads centered on the president's now-you-see-it, now-you-don't relationship with his 'controversial' pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, he of 'God d--- America' fame, than it got shot down in one news cycle by both Romney and Ricketts, with an obligatory cameo appearance by John McCain. Even by Stupid Party standards, it was an impressive display of preemptive surrender. I can see why Romney 'repudiated' the effort; so far, so boilerplate for a cautious candidate like Mitt, who's clearly going to run on an above-the-fray, 'I can fix this mess' campaign, and leave the gut-punching to others. But it doesn't help to allay the fears of conservatives who were appalled by the 'honorable campaign' of 2008 that Romney doesn't yet realize the mortal threat Obamaism poses, not simply to the economy but to the nature of the nation. The malevolent phoniness of 'hope and change' was evident to some of us from the moment it began, and McCain's campaign's blanket proscription against calling it by name was the real reason he lost so badly. ... If the Right accepts the liberals' definition of 'negative campaigning' as simply telling the truth about them, we might as well go home." --columnist Michael Walsh
How should conservatives handle Obama's character?
Government
"Unsurprisingly, President Obama and others have used the recent $2 billion loss by JPMorgan Chase as a call for more regulation. Obviously, our existing regulations have worked so well that more can only be better! What the president and his allies miss is that recent events at JPMorgan illustrate how the system should -- and does -- work. Let's compare two cases. In September 2003, when warned of problems at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, then-House Financial Services Chair Barney Frank stated, 'I want to roll the dice a little bit more in this situation.' Well, Chairman Frank did indeed 'roll the dice,' and now the American taxpayer is almost $200 billion poorer. JPMorgan rolled the dice, betting that the U.S. economy would improve -- essentially a bet on Obama's economic agenda. That bet went south. JPMorgan lost $2 billion, one hundredth of the losses so far on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But the losses at JPMorgan were borne not by the American taxpayer, but by JPMorgan. The losses also appear to have been offset by gains so that in the last quarter JPMorgan still turned a profit. This is the way the system should work. Those who take the risk, take the loss (or gain). It is a far better alignment of incentives than allowing Washington to gamble trillions, leaving someone else holding the bag." --Cato Institute's Mark Calabria

For the Record
"In his January 2011 inaugural address, California Gov. Jerry Brown declared it a 'time to honestly assess our financial condition and make the tough choices.' Plainly the choices weren't tough enough: Mr. Brown has just announced that he faces a state budget deficit of $16 billion -- nearly twice the $9.2 billion he predicted in January. In Sacramento [last] Monday, he coupled a new round of spending cuts with a call for some hefty new tax hikes. In his own inaugural address back in January 2010, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also spoke of making tough choices for the people of his state. For his first full budget, Mr. Christie faced a deficit of $10.7 billion -- one-third of projected revenues. Not only did Mr. Christie close that deficit without raising taxes, he is now plumping for a 10% across-the-board tax cut. ... When the Obama administration's Transportation Department called on California to cough up billions for a high-speed bullet train or lose federal dollars, Mr. Brown went along. In sharp contrast, when the feds delivered a similar ultimatum to Mr. Christie over a proposed commuter rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey, he nixed the project, saying his state just couldn't afford it. On the 'millionaire's' tax, Mr. Brown says that California desperately needs to approve one if the state is to recover. The one on California's November ballot kicks in at income of $250,000 and would raise the top rate to 13.3% from 10.3% on incomes above $1 million. Again in sharp contrast, when New Jersey Democrats attempted to embarrass Mr. Christie by sending a millionaire's tax to his desk, he called their bluff and promptly vetoed it. ... Now, no one will confuse New Jersey with free-market Hong Kong. Still, because the challenges facing the Golden and Garden States are so similar, the different paths taken by their respective governors are all the more striking." --columnist William McGurn
Faith & Family
"It is one thing to talk about 'fairness' when it comes to allowing gays and lesbians to marry; it is quite another to claim biblical authority for such relationships. President Obama cited the 'Golden Rule' about treating others as you would like to be treated, but in doing so he ignored the totality of Scripture and the Lord Himself, who alone gets to set the rules for human behavior. The president says he is a 'practicing Christian.' It is difficult to be one while simultaneously holding a low view of the Bible, which his position on several social issues might suggest. ... I recently wrote that it is becoming increasingly difficult for people who believe the Bible is God's Word to impose their beliefs on those who disagree with them. But it is something altogether different for those who disagree to claim the Bible doesn't say what it says, in effect calling God a liar. President Obama apparently hopes there are sufficient numbers of biblical illiterates -- and he could be right about this -- that either won't notice his sleight of hand, or don't care. ... People are free to accept or reject what Scripture says. What they are not free to do is to claim it says something it does not." --columnist Cal Thomas
Culture
"A recent Gallup poll highlights what many political insiders know intuitively: that the cultural divide between religious and non-religious Americans plays out at the ballot box as well. Two-thirds (66%) of Americans describe themselves as somewhat or very religious, while one-third (33%) say they are 'non-religious.' According to Gallup, each of the presidential candidates, Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat Barack Obama, benefits from a core group of supporters defined by their religious perspectives. President Obama commands strong support (54% v. 38% for Romney) among white Americans who describe themselves as non-religious, while Mitt Romney followers are decidedly religious (62% of moderately or strongly religious voters support Romney while just 29% are fans of President Obama). Religious Americans understand the stakes in this election because we have felt the consequences of the most anti-religion President of our time. ... While Christians are still the largest denomination in the country -- and Christian values still guide much of what is good in our institutions -- the challenge is set before us: who will win the hearts of the growing numbers of unaffiliated Americans, particularly young people? ... The question is not just a religious one. Its implications carry over into the political and civic spheres as well." --columnist Rebecca Hagelin
Essential Liberty
"Soon, the Supreme Court will rule on the constitutionality of Obamacare, euphemistically titled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. There is absolutely no constitutional authority for Congress to force any American to enter into a contract to buy any good or service. ... If the Supreme Court rules that Obamacare is constitutional, citizens should press their state governors and legislatures to nullify the law. You say, 'Williams, the last time states got into this nullification business, it led to a war that cost 600,000 lives.' Two things are different this time. First, most Americans are against Obamacare, and secondly, I don't believe that you could find a U.S. soldier who would follow a presidential order to descend on a state to round up or shoot down fellow Americans because they refuse to follow a congressional order to buy health insurance. Congress has already gone far beyond the powers delegated to it by the Constitution. ... Former slave Frederick Douglass advised: 'Find out just what people will submit to and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them. ... The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.'" --economist Walter E. Williams
Reader Comments
"Mark Alexander's essay, 'Obama's Gay Political Play,' is correct in its analysis that the O'campaign is betting large on the 'stupid female voter' strategy, which assumes a majority of women will vote emotively rather than intellectually, and reverse the women voter trend toward the right. Additionally, the issue is a flaming red herring the Left is betting will distract from Obama's efforts to break the back of free enterprise and complete the transformation to a Democratic Socialist economy." --George from Pennsylvania
"This homophobic rant against Obama revealed a lot of hatred and anger you have. I pity you spending so much time and energy on lashing out against a minority group. Homosexuality is not a choice -- you are born one way or the other. I tried to 'choose' heterosexuality from the age of 15 through 40. It didn't work because I was born homosexual. All of the denial almost ruined my life. You do know that in 40 years when gay marriage is the law of the land that you will be looked upon as narrow minded and ignorant don't you?" --Tom
Alexander's Reply: Ah, yes. Name-calling, the last refuge of some poor soul who has no substantive rebuttal. We certainly regret whatever abuse (mental, physical and emotional) you have suffered -- both that which led to your condition and that which you have endured as a result. In an effort to get beyond name-calling, please do read Alexander's essay on Gender Disorientation Pathology. Assuming our culture devolves to the point that 'gay marriage' is acceptable to a majority of people, by your calculation, that old divine prophet, Jesus, will be considered 'narrow minded and ignorant' too. As for the errancy of majority opinion, I would refer you to the advice of James Madison: 'There is no maxim, in my opinion, which is more liable to be misapplied ... than that the interest of the majority is the political standard of right and wrong.' Perhaps you assume Madison and the rest of our Founders were 'homophobic' also."
"I'm very glad you pointed out that Obama had Rev Wright as his pastor for 20 years. Some media reports refer to Wright as Obama's 'one-time pastor,' which connotes a short-term relationship. Obviously this was not the case. We all must wonder about a man who subjects himself to 20 years of incendiary racism. Was he subjecting himself by force, or coercion, or politics -- or has Obama drunk the Kool-Aid, and was therefore there by choice? The answer to that question directly relates to your opening principles about character." --Hamilton
"I totally disagree with the commentators belief that Obama was born in Hawaii, (as his birth certificate shows). The so-called birth certificate is a forgery as Sheriff Joe Arpaio has stated. There is just too much that points to him having been born in Kenya. There are also just too many missing links in the Obama history." --Richard
Editor's Reply: For those interested in our position on Obama's birth certificate, see this editorial from April 2011. We realize that, for many, this issue will never be resolved to satisfaction.
The Last Word
"According to President Obama, he's a historic figure. That's no figure of speech. ... President Obama ... authorized his staff to add his name to the biographies of former presidents from Calvin Coolidge to George W. Bush on the White House website. ... This massive sense of ego has led Obama to the inevitable conclusion that his is the only opinion that matters. If he is the culmination of Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy and Dwight D. Eisenhower, then he is also the culmination of all moral thought for the last several thousand years. ... Obama's ego has disconnected him from everyday Americans. ... Obama's arrogance would be amusing were it not so insanely dangerous. When it comes to the world stage, it is Obama's perverse self-assurance that he can right all wrongs merely by talking at them that has doomed much of the Middle East to generations of darkness. When it comes to domestic policy, it is Obama's egotistic belief that he knows best and that Americans are simply ignorant, which has led him to embrace radical causes ranging from nationalization of health care to drilling moratoria. The American people are an open-minded and tolerant people. But we don't take kindly to being ordered about by a man with a monarchic mind. If Obama doesn't check his ego at the door, he's going to find the door hitting him on the way out." --columnist Ben Shapiro

A North Carolina high school teacher was captured on video shouting at a student who questioned President Obama and suggesting he could be arrested for criticizing a sitting president.
The Salisbury Post, which first reported on the YouTube video, did not identify the teacher in question, who is reportedly on staff at North Rowan High School. The video does not show faces, but the heated argument in the classroom can clearly be heard.
"Do you realize that people were arrested for saying things bad about Bush?" the teacher said toward the end of the argument, telling the student, "you are not supposed to slander the president."
The student told the teacher that one can't be arrested "unless you threaten the president."

For Black America a time for choosing: belief in the Democrat Party or belief in God's laws
May 21, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
Democrats have had a war against African Americans for 200 years. The Democrat Party's most notable "Founding Father" was Aaron Burr a man who plotted with Democrat Andrew Jackson to steal the Louisiana Territories to break them up and make new slave states out of them.
James Polk a Democrat President actually traded in slaves while he was president and fired the permanent civil service staff so he could have his slaves wait on him in our White House. Through the years Democrats have picked up guns to maintain slavery and formed the Klu Klux Klan to keep freed slaves in virtual bondage after they were freed.
Woodrow Wilson brought Jim Crowe Laws to Washington where there were intact middle class Black families thriving and being supported by fathers who were working for the federal government. Democrat Wilson ended that and segregated the federal workforce.
Democrat Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" has turned out ... Continue Reading:For Black America a time for choosing: belief in the Democrat Party or belief in God's laws

MAY 20, 1927, at 7:52am, one of the greatest feats in aviation began as 25-year-old Charles A. Lindbergh left Roosevelt Field in Long Island, New York, in his silver monoplane named "The Spirit of St. Louis." Thirty-three and a half hours later he landed in Paris, completing the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Lindbergh was decorated by the president of France, the King of England and President Calvin Coolidge. The son of a Congressman, Charles Lindbergh was a test pilot for a St. Louis firm, performed feats of barnstorming and became an Air Service Reserve cadet, flying mail routes to Chicago. At the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences, February 1, 1954, Charles Lindbergh stated: "It was not the outer granduer of the Roman but the inner simplicity of the Christian that lived through the ages." On the Bicentennial of Air and Space Flight, February 7, 1983, President ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 20

Why the New Sachs/Mason-Dixon Poll is wrong and Obama is losing by more than 3 points
May 20, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
The headline from Friday's New Sachs/Mason-Dixon (S/M-D) Poll held some bad news for Barack Obama in what it said, but the worse news was in what it didn't say. Oh S/M-D used the obligatory "happy face" language like "tough hard-fought presidential race", but the data just doesn't support that claim.
The report says Obama is losing 47/44, which for an incumbent with consistently under 50% approval ratings would be troublesome enough, but the rest of the numbers offer little comfort to Obama.
S/M-D says Obama is up 47/41 among women and 49/42 with voters under 50 years of age. Regardless of what these numbers look like, they are harbingers of bad things to come Obama's way in November. In 2010 the total voter male/female split was 48/52, but since women have always voted at a higher rate then men in presidential elections, fairness requires using 2008 as the base number.
CNN exit ... Continue Reading:Why the New Sachs/Mason-Dixon Poll is wrong and Obama is losing by more than 3 points
