Obama sends the 'plumbers' after top Romney donors
Recently The Blaze reported on how the Obama team treats high profile Romney donors. The message: donate to Romney and you'll feel the wrath of the Obama smear machine.
The Blaze explains, "VanderSloot has run a wellness-products company called Melaleuca Inc. out of Idaho Falls, ID, for the last 26 years, the Wall Street Journal's Kimberley A. Strassel reports. By all accounts, it's a healthy and prosperous company - something of a rarity in this current economy. But that doesn't matter to certain members of 'Team Obama.' VanderSloot gave $1 million to the pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future and that was enough to land him a spot on the enemies list."
What happens when you end up on the enemies list? Well, you end up on Obama's (former) Attack Watch website "Keeping GOP Honest" site.
Just a week ago the establishment media was aflutter with news that a CIA double-agent had thwarted a new type of underwear bomb attack targeting U.S. flights in a plot devised by al-Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula.
But as the week progressed, a developing bombshell story got buried under President Obama's gay marriage announcement. Not only is the supposed CIA asset not a CIA asset at all, but the entire operation was exposed prematurely and the double-agent's life was immediately threatened by an intelligence leak that very well may have come out of the White House for political gain.
As the story broke, the establishment media was more than happy to attribute the intelligence coup to the CIA and the Obama administration, describing the mole as a "CIA informant."
It turns out that wasn't true. The double-agent hadn't been recruited and placed by the CIA, but by British intelligence, who also managed the operation. In fact, the Americans had only recently been made aware of the joint British-Saudi effort.

Patriots, I have witnessed this ceremony many times, but never realized that they were the actual flags of the individual servicemen and women being honored. The entire Obama administration along with the American left has heaped praise on the president for his "daring" and "brave" decision to send a Navy SEAL team into an Abottobbad compound to assassinate 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. In fact, Obama has even used the accomplishment as the crux of his latest campaign ad - a move even liberal mediaite Arianna Huffington deemed despicable. Yet in April it was revealed that then-CIA Director Leon Panetta drafted a memo that included an escape clause for the president should the operation go awry [emphasis added]: "The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven's hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out." In plain-speak, Obama chose to blame the military, through "Patsy" Admiral McRaven, should the mission to kill bin Laden fail. Does this sound like something a Commander in Chief would or should ever do? The Wall Street Journal adds:

In Focus: Budget Votes in the Senate This Week, None Expected to Pass
The Senate plans to vote on up to five budget resolutions this week, though none are expected to get the 51 votes needed to pass.
Among those being offered are President Obama's budget (S.Con.Res. 41), the House-passed Ryan budget (H.Con.Res. 112), and Senator Pat Toomey's "Restoring Balance" budget (S.Con.Res. 37). In addition to writing a letter of support for both the Ryan and the Toomey budgets, AFP will be key voting in support of both plans.
Not a single Senator voted for the President's budget when it was offered in the Senate last year, and not a single Representative voted for this year's White House proposal when it was offered in the House earlier this year. See our recent blog post for more details.
Last Week Recap:
House
On Wednesday the House passed a bill to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank and increase its loan limit from $100 billion to $140 billion. The vote was 330-93. While the measure is expected to pass the Senate as well, AFP has called on President Obama to veto it given his past negative comments about the program.
On Thursday the House passed the Republican "reconciliation" package of spending cuts that are intended to replace the coming $75 billion in Defense sequestration. The vote was 218-199. An overview of the package was sent by e-mail to all staff this morning.
On Friday the House passed the FY2013 Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations bill, the first of the 12 appropriations bills in the House. The bill cut spending by $1.6 billion to $51.1 billion this year. AFP had called on the House to cut at least 1.5% from discretionary spending in order to stick to the Ryan budget, which they achieved for this bill. The vote was 247-163.
Senate
On Tuesday a bill to extend reduced student loan rates for another year failed to pass a procedural vote, falling 52-45 when 60 votes were needed. Republicans refused to support the "pay-for" that Democrats had offered-an increase in payroll taxes on S corporations.
No action was taken on the small business tax bill, S. 2237, that was expected to come up.
Highlights for This Week:
House
The House will spend the week working on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), issues outside of AFP's purview.
Senate
Today the Senate vote on the House-passed bill to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. The measure is expected to pass by a wide margin if Majority Leader Reid and Minority Leader McConnell are able to work out procedural issues on Republican amendment votes.
On Tuesday the Senate will vote on several budget proposals, as mentioned in the "In Focus" section above.
The Senate will spend the remainder of the week working on reauthorizing the FDA's "user fees" for reviewing drug-approval applications (the Prescription Drug User Fee Act, or PDUFA).
If time remains, late in the week the Senate may take up S.2237, a small business tax bill, or the House-passed student loans bill, which paid for the one-year extension of reduced interest rates by eliminating an ObamaCare slush fund.

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center appwill, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.
It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.
The Federal Reserve is not my issue. Audit it if you want, I'm with you. But it's not something that drives me crazy or makes me passionate. But there is one issue that really gets me and the Fed has been at the center of it lately - crony capitalism.
Barack Obama has nominated Jeremy Stein and Jerome Powell to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors for six years each. Senator David Vitter (R-LA - HAFA Score 85%) placed a hold on both men. They are creatures of Wall Street and, in the biggest red flag of the day, both Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan have been pressuring Senator Vitter to drop his hold.
The issue here is bailouts. Mark Calabria notes the Federal Reserve has bailout powers, but it needs the support of five Federal Reserve governors. Stein and Powell are both in favor of the Federal Reserve continuing to bailout banks and other entities with little oversight.
Harry Reid can bring these men to the floor any time he wants. The word in the Senate is that he is about to.
Many have called President Obama's election historic, and rightly so. His presidency however, is another matter entirely. It's historic in a lot of senses be it his record breaking debt accumulation & spending or his being the first president to have a rainbow halo placed on his head. But compared to the historic achievements of other presidents that did things like ending slavery or saving the planet, he falls woefully short.
This week, the House will fulfill our most important constitutional duty by debating the FY 13 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In accordance with the framer's intent, this act is the primary check that Congress can apply to the Executive Branch on defense and national security policy.
Last year, constitutional conservatives raised the alarm bell about some provisions in the FY 12 NDAA; provisions that many were concerned would grant President Obama far reaching powers to detain American citizens without trial. The bill ultimately passed, but has become the subject of countless town hall meetings, tweets, and Facebook posts in the months since.
The debate has become so heated that many believe that the NDAA is a bill that deals strictly with detaining terrorists. It is much more than that. Aside from dictating how the military can handle any al Qaeda terrorists they capture, the FY13 NDAA deals with the full scope of national security issues. There is much in it, from a rejection of the Obama administration's effort to raise health care fees on military retirees; to making sure the President doesn't trade our missile defenses away to the Russians, that Conservatives can be proud of.
You know, when I saw this secondhand whine from Wisconsin Democrats upset that the DNC apparently wasn't prepared to throw half a million dollars at the general recall election, I assumed that this would be resolved. I mean, really: the Left has already thrown away tens of millions of dollars; what's a bit more? Admittedly, not throwing utterly horrible money after bad (we've passed the 'throwing good money after bad' stage already) would be the right answer, in a strictly utilitarian sense; but the state party is in a bad way right now. They sort of need an indication that the President cares for more than his own election, right?
Last week, the House passed H.R. 5326, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, by a vote of 247-163, providing $51.131 billion in discretionary appropriations for fiscal year 2013. That's $1.61 billion or 3% below the amount of funding provided for these programs in fiscal year 2012-and $731 million or 1.4% below the amount requested by the president for fiscal year 2013.
Not terrible, but clearly there was room to cut more spending, right? Surely House Republicans realized that Americans want them to cut more spending than 3%-and be more than 1.4% below where President Obama is, right?
Ezra Klein at the Washington Post put out a piece promoting Common Cause's lawsuit to have the Senate filibuster declared unconstitutional. Klein repeats myth after myth about the filibuster. This piece should commence an interesting national debate finally putting the argument to bed that the filibuster is somehow unconstitutional. Abolition of the filibuster will lead to a Senate with less time for debate and limited transparency for the American people.
It is interesting to note that these short sighted leftists may be laying the table for an easy repeal of ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank and extending the Bush tax cuts. Clearly, Republicans control of the Senate is within reach (see RCP analysis of Senate polls). There is also a 50-50 chance that Republicans win the presidency. Liberals are trying to get rid of the one tool they would have to stop Republicans from dismantling the Obama legacy of higher taxes and more regulation.
I have to imagine that some Republicans will want to take liberals up on the offer of ridding the Senate of the filibuster in January of 2013.
DISCRIMINATION. In the days of the Founding Fathers, discrimination would have been the mark of a well-rounded, intelligent citizen. "Discrimination" meant "discernment"-an ability to make nice judgments about what was good, what was bad, what was mediocre, what was fake, what was genuine. Today it means "being unpleasant to women, ethnic minorities, gay people, and the disabled." So it is that another fine and quintessentially conservative concept has been hijacked and corrupted by the liberal Left to advance its agenda of resentment, bitterness, and slavering entitlement.

Mexico Drug War: 49 Headless Bodies Dumped Near Monterrey Show Escalating Violence

CADEREYTA, Mexico - Authorities struggled Monday to identify 49 bodies without heads, hands or feet to gain clues into the latest in a series of massacres from an escalating war between Mexico's two dominant drug cartels, with increasing evidence that innocents are being pulled into the bloodbath along with gang rivals.
More than 24 hours after the gruesome discovery, officials had yet to identify any of the mutilated corpses found near the northern industrial city of Monterrey. None of the bodies examined so far showed signs of gunshots, Nuevo Leon state security spokesman Jorge Domene told Milenio television.
Though it was unclear who the victims were, it was the fourth massacre in a month. Mexico's interior secretary, Alejandro Poire, said Monday that all those incidents resulted from the fight between the Zetas gang and the Sinaloa Cartel, which have emerged in the last year as the two main forces in Mexican drug-trafficking and other organized crime.
Some victims in earlier body dumps have turned out to be bakers, brick layers, even students - anyone who could be snatched off the streets in mass killings that one captured gang member said were designed to "cause terror."
Poire would not respond directly when asked by The Associated Press if innocents have increasingly become targets.
In the days and weeks after September 11 hardly a day would go by without another homemade design for the World Trade Center showing up in my inbox. Some were crude, some were obscene, some were impossible to construct and some were genuinely visionary. Even those most familiar with the crusted workings of New York state and city government, not to mention the bi-state beast of the Port Authority, could hardly have imagined that eleven years later one far smaller tower would still be under construction.
One World Trade Center, formerly the Freedom Tower before that name was deemed too showy and patriotic, is a faintly shiny presence on the skyline, glass slowly sliding over stories of naked steel, overshadowed by Frank Gehry's strikingly surreal Beekman Tower with its rippling lines. If you didn't know what you were looking at, you would hardly notice it was there.
Now One World Trade Center will lose a radome enclosure due to budget cuts, which means very little except that the building's ridiculous 400 foot spire risks being classified as an antenna and OWTC will no longer be recognized as the tallest building in the country. The death of the radome is one of the many redesigns to the building that have made it the forgettable structure that it is today. And the difference in those 400 feet is the difference between a 1,368 foot skyscraper and a 1,776 foot skyscraper.
Having lost the Freedom Tower designation, losing the symbolic 1,776 height seems almost an afterthought. The 1,776 number was an artifact of Daniel Libeskind, the original architect, and his vision for the site. That vision was mostly discarded, along with its "sky gardens" and windmills. The "1,776" height is about all that remains of the German-Jewish architect's proposal. And regardless of whether we count the antenna as a spire or not, it will not be the tallest building in the world. Those can be found in the places that funded the terrorists, Saudi Arabia and Dubai, which have used slave labor to build glass and steel pyramids to the glory of their own pharaohs.

If there is any state legislature in America that should understand the need to spell out to judges that Sharia law should not be given any weight in their courts it is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The state's judiciary came under national criticism in February 2012 when Pennsylvania Judge Mark Martin ruled that it was ok for a Muslim immigrant to allegedly chokehold an American citizen because the Muslim was allegedly unaware that Sharia law did not apply in Pennsylvania. Judge Martin essentially injected Sharia law as a defense.
HB 2029 entitled Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, prohibiting the application of foreign law which would impair constitutional rights was introduced to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on November 18, 2011.
The following forty three (43) Pennsylvania Representatives introduced HB 2029: Representative Swanger, Metcalfe, Perry, Baker, Benninghoff, Clymer, Cox, Creighton, Cutler, Denlinger, Dunbar, J. Evans, Gabler, Geist, Gingrich, Grove, Helm, Hennessy, Kauffman, F. Keller, Knowles, Maher, Metzgar, Millard, Miller, Moul, Murt, Mustio, Oberlander, Peifer, Pyle, Rapp, Roae, Saccone, Saylor, Schroder, Stern, Tallman, Toepel, Toohil, Truitt, Vereb and Youngblood.
The bill was referred to the House Judiciary committee on November 18, 2011, the same day it was introduced, where it has sat unmoved for six months.
CAIR Philadelphia (Council on American Islamic Relations) opposition to HB 2029 may explain why the bill has not moved. It appears CAIR Philadelphia was instrumental in influencing the Philadelphia City Council and Pittsburgh City Council to adopt resolutions aimed at opposing HB 2029.
Both resolutions use hyped up rhetoric to inflame emotions and fail to recognize what HB 2029 actually achieves.

The Department of Justice is being encouraged to follow in the footsteps of the FBI in cutting off all non-investigative ties to the country's largest Muslim advocacy organization, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).
The Fiscal Year 2013 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Bill, which passed the House on Wednesday, contains in its Committee Report (a separate public document that spells out how agencies are expected to spend the money allocated to them) a recommendation that Attorney General Eric Holder follow in the FBI's footsteps and sever ties with CAIR:
Liaison partnerships.-The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in a case in which the Holy Land Foundation was found guilty of material support of a terrorist organization. The committee acknowledges the attorney general's refusal to attend certain meetings knowing that CAIR officials would be present, as indicated in testimony before the committee on February 28, 2012. The committee understands that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has an existing policy prohibiting its employees from engaging in any formal non-investigative cooperation with CAIR. The committee encourages the attorney general to adopt a similar policy for all department officials.

For decades Democrats have presented themselves as champions of the "little guy." The president's reelection team is desperately trying to rebuild that image by embracing the Occupy Wall Street movement and portraying Mitt Romney as an out-of-touch corporate elitist.

A Day In The Life Of Barack Obama
Obama was a busy man yesterday. First, he gave the commencement speech at Barnard College, an elite women's school affiliated with Columbia University. Obama shared the stage with Evan Wolfson, founder of the same-sex "marriage" group Freedom to Marry, who also received an award from the college. Wolfson was praised by the college's president for, among other things, his efforts to fight the Boy Scouts' ban on homosexual scoutmasters.
Next, Obama went on the "The View" to defend his support for same-sex "marriage." When Barbara Walters pressed Obama on whether he would fight to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, thereby forcing every state to recognize same-sex "marriage," he dodged the question.
Later in the day, he attended a fundraiser with openly gay singer Ricky Martin. According to CNN, Obama "outlined goals he hopes to accomplish under a second term, including the repeal of the Defense Of Marriage Act." (How any of this is helping the unemployed or people losing their homes is a mystery.)
Once again, Obama is playing rhetorical games with the public. He won't give the audience of "The View" a straight answer. But just as he assured Russian leader Dmitri Medvedev to wait until after the election, he told homosexual activists and donors behind closed doors that he'll have "more flexibility" to ram their agenda into law in his second term.
I know many GOP strategists think values issues are "losers" on Election Day. But it is far easier to defend normal marriage than it is to argue for cuts in popular programs. And it has been my experience that if a candidate can't get it right on the sanctity of life or the meaning of marriage, he isn't likely to hold the line on economic issues.
If Obama wants to pick a fight over marriage, Republicans shouldn't run from it. They should fight back. The American people are with us!
Liberal Poll Has Romney Leading
The latest CBS/New York Times poll has Mitt Romney leading Barack Obama 46%-to-43%, within the poll's 3-point margin of error. The poll also finds Romney leading Obama among women 46%-to-44%, but don't expect to hear about that during tonight's news broadcast.
Unbelievably, top Obama campaign aides are whining that the poll is biased. They have a point. The poll is biased. As is often the case, the CBS/New York Times poll oversampled Democrats -- this time by eight percentage points, and Obama still could do no better than 43%!

Remembering his childhood in communist-run Cuba, Heritage Foundation Vice President Mike Gonzalez describes very personal experiences with the terrors of government gone wrong.
"It's funny because I learned the values of small government by seeing government out of control," he says.

The U.S. government, Marshall argues, "ought to be equally concerned about the chilling long-term consequences of gross abuse of human dignity and the destruction of civil society. It's time for China to end the barbarism of its One-Child Policy."

The Ladder of Opportunity vs. The Escalator of Results
If 2008 was all about hope and change, 2012 may well be about ladders. Yes, ladders. President Barack Obama has developed a soft-spot for the "ladder of opportunity" metaphor, and he's running with it.
At a community college in Ohio a few weeks ago, he promised an economy "where there are ladders of opportunity." At a campaign event in Chicago this January, he called on those who've made it to "do a little bit more so that the next generation is able to get on the ladder of success."
In Osawatomie in December, he gave us the memorable: "And yet, over the last few decades, the rungs on the ladder of opportunity have grown farther and farther apart." Last September, he urged Congress to pass the American Jobs Act to ensure that "low-income Americans who desperately want to work will have more ladders out of poverty."
Yet for all his talk of ladders, President Obama doesn't seem to understand how these rather simple contraptions work. Ladders-whether real or symbolic of opportunity-don't automatically advance all who step on them. Only those who put in the effort to climb get to the top.
When President Obama talks about ladders of opportunity and success, he actually seems to escalators have in mind: people just hop on, and everyone gets to the same place without effort.
A more fitting term would be the "escalator of success" or, given his fixation on fairness, perhaps "the fairness escalator"? Of course, that doesn't quite have the same ring as "ladder of opportunity." So the president has stuck with an image that instantly resonates with voters.
Conspicuously absent from all this ladder talk, though, is the slightest suggestion that we can perhaps create our own opportunities. Nor is there any acknowledgment of the virtues necessary to climb one's way to the top: hard work, perseverance, fortitude, prudence and a real desire to get there. After all, some may fall down and will need to pull themselves back up again.
The focus rather is always on all these poor, ladderless Americans. And on all that the federal government must do-from more spending on infrastructure to more spending on education, not to mention green jobs-to give each and every one of us the sturdy ladder we are entitled to. Peppered throughout are warnings about unnamed villains who, having made it to the top, would now pull up the ladder behind them.
Considering the magnitude of the injustice Douglass suffered and the depths from which he rose, it is striking how little he asked of others and how much he demanded from himself.
Nothing could be further from Mr. Obama's message. Rather than embolden us to act, it encourages quietude as we await our government-issued ladders. Rather than draw inspiration from those who have made it, it fosters resentment by recasting success as inequality. How uninspiring a vision for a country known the world over as the land of opportunity.
Even worse is the sad irony that the president who speaks so much of mobility has done nothing to address the looming fiscal crisis that threatens it. He has, however, saddled the next generation with an extra $5 trillion of debt. That's a mighty heavy load to bear when you're trying to climb your way to the top.

I don't believe in a law to prevent a man from getting rich; it would do more harm than good. So while we do not propose any war upon capital, we do wish to allow the humblest man an equal chance to get rich with everybody else.
The lingering headline on the front pages this week is that JP Morgan Chase suffered a massive loss on a hedging strategy, costing them $2 billion. That's no small mistake, and it's an example of how bad decisions in the free market can cost big money. But just because mistakes have consequences doesn't mean that the mighty hand of government needs to step in to save us from ourselves. However, that's what some on the left are now calling for.
The news of this blunder hit last week when JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon revealed that the bank took a $2 billion loss over the past six weeks in a strategy intended to hedge against risks to the bank's assets that could come from market volatility caused by the Euro crisis. On Sunday's Meet the Press, Dimon admitted, "In hindsight, we took far too much risk. The strategy we had was badly vetted. It was badly monitored. It should never have happened."
The company is certainly paying the price in losses, as are those responsible for the bad decision making. The Los Angeles Times reports that the bank's stock fell 12% since it disclosed the loss last week, the executive who oversaw the department responsible for the loss retired on Monday, and JP Morgan's reputation as an extremely well managed bank has been damaged.
But does the flawed strategy and the resulting loss mean that Washington should step in with more regulation of Wall Street? Yesterday, White House press secretary Jay Carney used the news of JP Morgan's loss to call for more regulations, remarking, "The president fought very hard against Republicans and Wall Street lobbyists to get Wall Street reform passed . . . I think that this event merely reinforces why the President was right to take on this fight and why we still need to make sure it's implemented."
Likewise, former Obama adviser Elizabeth Warren called for Dimon to resign from the New York Federal Reserve Board and slammed Wall Street. "What happened here is not just about JP Morgan case, it's about the kind of attitudes, that the bank should be regulating themselves instead of having real oversight," Warren said. "We have to say as a country, no, the banks cannot regulate themselves."
What's needed is some perspective, not more regulation from Washington. Heritage's David C. John explains that while JP Morgan's loss represents a clear failure of management, it's not a systemic problem that requires or would be fixed by additional regulation. For starters, JP Morgan is a $2.3 trillion bank with a net worth of $189 billion, meaning that this loss reduced the bank's capital ratio from 8.4 percent to 8.2 percent. In other words, the bank can absorb the loss, and it's nowhere close to needing any form of federal intervention.
Some more perspective could be gleaned by examining the $3.2 billion loss the U.S. Post Office experienced in the most recent quarter, or the billions lost on risky green energy bets made by President Obama and Energy Secretary Steven Chu. Only those losses weren't incurred by private investors, but by you the taxpayer.
What's more, John explains, the regulations that are now being called for -- particularly the so-called Volcker Rule -- would not have prevented the losses since it would not have affected this transaction. Finally, John writes, the system worked as is. "JPMorgan Chase losses were not discovered by regulators; they were discovered by the bank itself conducting its own management reviews."
What America is witnessing is the left using the news of JP Morgan's bad judgment as an excuse for more government regulation. But as even Carney acknowledged, regulations "can't prevent bad decisions from being made on Wall Street."
For all the wrangling over JP Morgan's loss, John points out that the bank is still expected to make a healthy profit for all of 2012. Yes, it made a mistake, and yes, that mistake cost a lot of money. But risks, mistakes and costs are part of capitalism. They're the price we pay for all the benefits that a free market affords us.
America is bracing for "Taxmageddon" -- the massive tax hikes set to hit the United States on January 1, 2013. The Washington Post reports that hiring is slowing, hospitals are trying to cut costs, and tax advisers are issuing warnings for fear that Washington won't stop the tax hike in time.

The Obama Justice Department awarded a group headed by a domestic terrorist, -- and one-time FBI fugitive with close ties to President Barack Obama -- hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars "to reduce racial disparities in the juvenile justice system," according to a leading Inside the Beltway watchdog group. "This is a story you likely won't see in the mainstream media, but a reputable political magazine exposed it this week," according to officials at Judicial Watch, an organization that investigates and exposes government corruption and abuse.
According to Judicial Watch's Corruption Chronicles, the Department of Justice has already given $400,000 in grants to an organization that blames disproportionately high criminal behavior among minority juvenile delinquents on discrimination. The San Francisco-based nonprofit describes itself as a leading organization in the field of juvenile justice and ethnic and racial disparities reduction.

I'm curious how the creative process for this video went down. Maybe something like this:
"Hey, I know, let's do a YouTube video-you know, those neat internet things hosted at Google's big energy-sucking server farms located close to coal-fired power plants, that people can look up on their computers and mobile devices wholly dependent on the fossil-fuel electricity grid!"
"Yeah, yeah-and we can show cool pictures of people protesting the Keystone pipeline at the White House-the protest that people came in for from all over the country on jet airplanes, cars, and diesel trains! Yeah! That's the ticket. That'll show 'em how highly our consciousness has been raised!"

A Few of the 23 Million
Today on "The View"-what was this, his tenth or twelfth appearance on that program?-Obama said that the election will be decided by what people think about the economy. For once, I agree with him.
That is what the Washington Post's Dana Milbank calls President Obama. I am skeptical, however. Combined with Newsweek's proclamation that he is the first gay president, does that make him a lesbian?
Milbank's column is rather silly, although he does highlight some instances where Obama "brazenly flaunted his feminine mystique." What I want to comment on, however, is this statement:
His reelection campaign has been working for months to exploit the considerable gender gap, which puts him far ahead of likely GOP rival Mitt Romney among women.
You see assertions like this in the press all the time, based on one or two dubious polls that seemed to gave Obama a substantial lead among women. But more recent polls show nothing of the sort. For example, the CBS/New York Times poll that came out yesterday, and received news coverage mainly because it indicated that a large majority of Americans think Obama endorsed gay marriage for political reasons, finds Romney leading Obama among women voters:
Now, I don't have a high opinion of this poll. It surveyed only 615 people, of whom 562 were registered voters. No attempt was made to identify likely voters. But one thing that CBS and the New York Times certainly didn't do was rig the poll to favor Romney. On the contrary: of the 615 individuals polled, 175 (28%) said they were Republicans, 202 (33%) said they were Democrats, and 234 (39%) said they were independents. The pollsters weighted their findings by reducing the number of Republicans to 25% and increasing the Democrats to 34%. It is absurd to think that in 2012, Democratic voters will outnumber Republican voters by nine points, but that is how CBS and the New York Times weighted their survey. Which means that the real results are significantly more favorable to Romney than the pollsters claim.
We see this all the time: liberal reporters see something they like in a poll, and repeat it for a long time afterward as a fact, even as it is contradicted by later polls.
Edward Jay Epstein writes on the occasion of the anniversary yesterday of the events giving rise to the disgrace of Dominique Strauss-Kahn:
When Dominique Strauss-Kahn stepped out of the shower in his $3,000 a night suite at the Sofitel Hotel in New York one year ago May 14, he was fully on track to become the next President of France. As head of the International Monetary Fund he was now on his way meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel with a secret plan to avert the Greek default. He was nearly 20 points ahead of his rival President Nicolas Sarkozy in the public opinion polls. He had planned to announce his candidacy on June 15, he told me when I interviewed him last month. He was confident, perhaps overconfident, he could not be stopped, expecting to be nominated by his Socialist Party, and then defeat Sarkozy.
John has already noted what ought to have been above-the-fold news in every newspaper last week-the testimony of the GAO's head of natural resources that the U.S. has recoverable oil shale "about equal to the entire world's proven oil reserves." It wasn't front-page news, however, because it doesn't fit the liberal narrative and favorite talking point that the U.S. only has "2 percent" of proven global oil reserves.
I suggest we start calling such people "hydrocarbon deniers," since only a puritanical fixation prevents the sensible exploitation of our own energy resources. (Maybe we should call them "Energy Prohibitionists" as well as "hydrocarbon deniers," since China and everyone else is going to make use of their hydrocarbon energy.) And anyone who persists in using the "2 percent" talking point again (that would include President Obama) deserves to be labeled an anti-science ignoramus.
For the slow learners out there, here's what the situation looks like graphically, using data from the Energy Information Administration and the International Energy Agency. Turns out the U.S. may have as much as three-fourths of the world's oil shale.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives will be voting on H.R. 4970, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) of 2012. This is an important piece of legislation that gives a lot of protection to women who have been the victims of violence. However, since its introduction in 1994, its visa requirements have been weakened and under current VAWA legislation, those women who do receive visas do not even have to cooperate with law enforcement; H.R. 4970 would change that.
Please call your Representative and tell him/her that it would be wrong to weaken this legislation and allow illegal aliens, even those who are victims of violence, to receive amnesty.
More about the changes to the Violence Against Women Act:
U visas are temporary visas given to illegal aliens who have been victims of crime in the U.S. - this includes everything from murder to trafficking crimes, assault, obstruction of justice and perjury. Already, more than 45,000 illegal aliens have received U visas. The primary justification for U-Visas is to keep aliens available to law enforcement to assist in the investigation and prosecution of crime.
Unfortunately, in each subsequent VAWA reauthorization, the U visa criteria requiring victims of crimes to work with law enforcement have been further weakened. This bill corrects this trend and makes clear that in order for an alien to be eligible for a U-visa, law enforcement must certify that 1) the alien reported the criminal activity to a law enforcement agency within 60 days of its occurrence, 2) the statute of limitations for prosecuting an offense based on the criminal activity has not lapsed, 3) the criminal activity is actively under investigation or a prosecution commenced, and 4) the petitioner has provided law enforcement with information that will assist in identifying the perpetrator of the criminal activity or the perpetrator's identity is known. These provisions will ensure that U visas remain the tools to assist law enforcement in solving crimes for which they were designed.
As the primary justification for U visas is to make illegal aliens available to assist law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of crimes, temporary U visas are sufficient for this purpose. This is how temporary S visas work, where individuals are permitted to stay in or enter the United States when they possess critical information needed by law enforcement to investigate or prosecute criminals. Therefore, there is no need to grant permanent residence to U visa recipients. This bill revokes the provision of adjustment of status to permanent residence. The grant of permanent residence is nothing less than amnesty for illegal aliens and is not needed. Abused alien spouses of U.S. citizens and permanent residents are already eligible for cancellation of removal.
Following on the heels of two National Right to Work Foundation-won victories against Obama Administration lawyers, a federal court has overturned yet another Obama Labor Board power grab.
Yesterday, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia struck down the National Labor Relations Board's (NLRB) ambush elections rule change that generated record opposition last summer from concerned citizens like you.
You see, the former union lawyers on the NLRB were so desperate to enact the rule change in December before radical Member Craig Becker's term expired, they rammed it through without securing the quorum necessary to vote on the rule.
Yesterday's decision prevents implementation of a rule that deprives employees of hearing both sides of the story about unionization.
Ambush elections are designed to make union organizing campaigns as one-sided as possible and to stifle the rights of employees who may oppose bringing a union into their workplace.
Just weeks earlier in a case brought by Foundation attorneys, a federal appeals court enjoined the NLRB from enforcing another new policy that would force most private sector employers nationwide to post biased notices that effectively serve as a roadmap to forced unionization.
And recently the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit rejected arguments by union and Obama Administration lawyers to roll back one worker's groundbreaking victory against a corrupt card check scheme.
While these victories for workers against the ideologically-charged Obama Labor Board are crucial, I'm afraid things could continue to get worse.
As you may recall, President Obama double-downed on his bureaucratic assault on workers and job providers by installing "recess" appointees to the NLRB -- while Congress was still in session.
This cynical move represents an unprecedented defiance of Congress and the Constitution.
Obama's spin doctors claim that the Senate had long stalled on the President's nominations. But that's simply not true.
The White House never even submitted the proper paperwork to the Senate Labor Committee to let the Committee members conduct background checks and interview two of the nominees -- including a lawyer for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).
With such a flagrant abuse of power by the Obama Administration, I'm grateful for the continued generosity of Right to Work supporters like you who enable us to fight back in the courts and in the media.
These recent victories in court are encouraging and remind us why our legal program is so critical. Thanks for helping us stand up for worker freedom.
