Do You Know Anybody Like Obama? Beck's Latest Exposé Could Go Down in History

  • May 10, 2012

Thursday evening's episode of the Glenn Beck Program will likely go down in the history books as one of the very few (if not only) recorded instances of another human being exposing President Obama's myriad personal and professional inconsistencies in such a detailed and profound way. In fact, viewers might even consider burning themselves a DVD copy to serve as a record of what historians will one day prove.

On Friday, The Blaze will provide more details on the president's past deeds and associations, along with an additional clip from Beck's Thursday's broadcast. Until then, ask yourself the following question: Do you know anybody like Obama?

Book: Obama Team Tried to Pay Rev. Wright $150K to Keep Quiet Until After 2008 Election

Rev. Jeremiah Wright said members of Barack Obama's team tried to buy his silence until after the 2008 election, according to a new book.

"The Amateur," author Edward Klein's unauthorized biography of Obama, has been making waves with explosive claims that former President Bill Clinton called Obama an "amateur" and encouraged Hillary Clinton to quit her secretary of state post and run against him in 2012.

The New York Post on Sunday published a conversation between Wright and Klein, the latest tidbit to come from the book. In it, Wright said once his fiery sermons surfaced during the 2008 campaign, he received an email asking him not to preach until after November:

"If I wanted America to fail"

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

The Tea Party

Purchase Book

With the 2012 elections before us, we've seen much speculation about whether the Tea Party will repeat the crucial role it played in the 2010 elections. Focusing on three principles-limited government, unapologetic U.S. sovereignty, and constitutional originalism-Elizabeth Price Foley's new book addresses that question, and more, head on. As George Will put it, "at last, someone conversant with the large issues now roiling contemporary American politics has taken the Tea Party seriously and concluded that it is intellectually substantial and politically constructive." Please join us for what will doubtless be a stimulating discussion, with comments from both a leading critic of the Tea Party and perhaps the nation's foremost political demographer.

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

"...After 8 hours in that chair ............. I was ready for another 8 hours - it seemed to end too soon..."

"I was literally stunned. Wow!
Brigitte Gabriel has assembled an incredible team to support her message of action and hope!"

"...As much as the issue depresses me, and I could cry every time I think about what is happening to the West, I left yesterday's conference energized and inspired. The day reminded me that I am *not* alone, after all, in trying to resist the dangerous absurdity of radical Islam that is being forced on us. I'm in desperate need of such reminders, as I'm sure most of us are. Whenever I'm close to despair, I remind myself of Brigitte's message. Thank you so much for this incredible training day!"

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Patriot Action Network

Patriot Action Network

We are the Tea Party

On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!

I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!

69 Obama Lies

Dear Patriot,

About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies.

When we finished, we had created a 122-page, 20,000-word dossier that documents a disturbing cross-section of fibs, falsehoods, and fabrications that our President has used to win votes while implementing his radical agenda. Go here to see a larger image of the cover and the full list of 69 Obama Lies we have documented:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

+ + The Lies that got Obama elected...

69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy.

They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core.

Let's be clear -- it was these  "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward.

But we don't stop there....

+ + Obama's "Big Government" Lies

69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy.

It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...

The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie...

The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie...

The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie...

The "Government Motors" Lie...

The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie...

The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...

+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies...

69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs.

We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed.

And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources.

You get the actual words of Obama set against the truth -- the LIE next to the reality check. Go here to request your copies and see the complete list of 69 Lies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

+ + 69 Obama Lies Begins Shipping In Two Weeks!

If you can help Grassfire with a contribution of ANY AMOUNT (even a few dollars to cover printing and shipping), we'll send you TWO COPIES of "69 Obama Lies" -- one to keep and one to share with a friend.

We have asked the printer to rush the first printing of 69 Obama Lies so we can get this resource into our team members' hands as quickly as possible.

As a result, we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23.

In order to be included in our first shipment, please let me
hear from you as soon as
possible. Go here to request your two copies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

I truly believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough and most important resource Grassfire has ever created. And I want to put it in the hands of every Grassfire team member.

Please take a moment to order your two copies of 69 Obama Lies today, and thanks for the stand you are taking.

Steve Elliott

Grassfire Nation

P.S. As I write, the manuscript is going to the printer and we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23. The first print run of our last resource quickly sold out.  Please go here to see the complete list of 69 Obama Lies and to order your copies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

Patriots, this booklet will assist in setting the record straight with swing voters, moderates, and even Democrats! This is the best resource I have seen to prove the lies from Obama - out of his own mouth- versus the truth or facts. This is the resource of this 2012 Presidential election year.

Want Obama out? Then obtain multiple copies of this booklet and share with friends, neighbors, co-workers, church family, and your tea party. To win we must be equipped! This is the best weapon for your arsenal of resources to beat Obama!

Stopping the Largest Tax Hike in History

The largest tax hike in history is due to strike the United States on January 1, 2013. Known as "Taxmageddon," it would impose $494 billion in higher taxes on the American people in the first year. So terrible would be its impact that yesterday Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke warned Senate Democrats that the country is headed toward a "fiscal cliff" and that Congress must deal with the impending tax nightmare.

On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) announced that his chamber will take up the issue before the November election. Knowing Washington's general reluctance to do anything of substance in an election year, Boehner's announcement was welcome news given the disastrous ramifications the threat of such a massive tax hike is already having on the economy. That's according to Mohammed El-Erian, CEO of Pimco, the world's largest bond trading firm. El-Erian argues a "prolonged political inaction is likely to postpone building plants and purchasing equipment and to discourage them from hiring." And that is only an inkling of the blow that would strike the economy if these tax hikes actually took effect.

How could nearly half a trillion dollars in higher taxes hit the American people so fast? What hath prior Congresses wrought? Heritage's Curtis Dubay explains that the tax hikes come from a series of expiring tax cuts and the imposition of even more new taxes. And Heritage's J.D. Foster writes that Americans can expect to see the following tax consequences starting next year:

- Income tax rates shoot up,
- The child credit is cut in half,
- The marriage penalty roars back,
- The capital gains tax rate goes up,
- The dividend tax rate soars,
- The payroll tax rate jumps two percentage points,
- The death tax is restored to its punitive past,
- The Alternative Minimum Tax relief expires, and
- A uniquely pernicious additional payroll tax hike from Obamacare takes effect.

Taxmageddon not the only tax problem. A consensus is coalescing in favor of fundamental tax reform, and many members of Congress understandably want real progress. Fortunately, there's a solution if Congress gets its act together and decides to take action. Foster writes that solving America's tax problem should be a simple two-step process:

Step 1) Prevent Taxmageddon. If Congress doesn't act, Foster says, "The effects on families and businesses would be devastating; the effects on the economy no less so. Congress should make current tax policy permanent and eliminate, once and for all, this cavalcade of tax hikes." Washington should take action before the election and before the tax hikes hit in order to bring more certainty to the economy and give taxpayers much-needed relief. Taxmageddon is anti-tax reform, a big step in the wrong direction.

Step 2) Usher in true tax reform. America's tax code inhibits growth and bedevils taxpayers with its maddening complexity. Having prevented a big step in the wrong direction with Taxmageddon, Congress should then lower marginal tax rates and eliminate taxes on saving and investment while eliminating the many ill-advised deductions, exemptions, and credits that distort the economy and clutter the tax code. Foster points to Heritage's New Flat Tax, contained in the Saving the American Dream Plan, as the best way to simplify the tax code, make it more fair, and encourage the kind of economic recovery America needs.

Speaker Boehner warned that if Congress does not take action soon, "We're going to have this mess all stacked up until after the election. And you want to talk about a train wreck? You're talking about a big one." He's right. The American people can't afford the $494 billion Taxmageddon train wreck, and the time is ripe this summer for Congress to do something to prevent it.

Revolutionary War Historical Article

Haym Salomon -The Revolution's Indispensable Financial Genius

By Donald N. Moran

Editor's Note: This article was reprinted from the October 1999 Edition of the Liberty Tree and Valley Compatriot Newsletter

Haym Salomon was born in Lesno, Poland in 1740. His parents were Jewish refugees from Portugal, who escaped religious persecution there. In his early twenties, he traveled throughout Europe acquiring an extensive knowledge of currency finance, that was to serve him well in his coming years.

After ten years of touring Europe he returned to Poland to join in that country's war with Russia. It is believed that he had to escape from the Russians, and decided on England. After earning enough money to pay for his passage to America he sailed in August, 1772. He arrived in New York City that winter.

In 1772, New York was a thriving colonial city of some 14,000 souls. Salomon soon learned that the colonies were in political turmoil over the issue of taxation without representation. Haym soon started a brokerage company and was very successful. His clientele included a large number of prominent loyalists, however, when word of the fighting at Lexington and Concord reached New York, Haym sided with the revolting Colonials and joined New York's active "Sons of Liberty". This was to get him into serious trouble.

New York City fell to the British on September 15th, 1776. Five days later a mysterious fire destroyed twenty-five percent of the city. 493 houses were burned, greatly inconveniencing the British Army that had planned on quartering their troops in these houses.

British General William Howe blamed the Sons of Liberty (He was probably right although no evidence has ever been found to substantiate it). George Washington reportedly said: "Providence, or some good honest fellow, has done more for us than we were disposed to do for ourselves". (Congress had forbidden Washington to destroy the city to deny the British it's use). In any case, before the British and citizens of New York City had put out all the fires, all known members of the Sons of Liberty found themselves in jail! Among them Haym Salomon.

Victory Center" on Facebook

-Gabriel Malor

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

RedState Morning Briefing

RedState Morning Briefing

For May 14, 2012

1. What the Mainstream Media Isn't Reporting About Solyndra

There are a number of facts surrounding the Solyndra story that don't seem to be getting any attention. A significant part of the public outrage regarding the bankrupt company isn't centered on their failed business model or external factors; it's the millions of taxpayer dollars that the Obama Administration lost on Solyndra after the business was doomed.

After Solyndra defaulted and they knew Solyndra was in real financial trouble, Secretary Steven Chu's Department of Energy (DOE) staff made a decision by December 10, 2010, to subordinate $75 million of taxpayer money so more private capital could be injected into Solyndra. Subordination means that outside private investors are given superiority over taxpayers in the event of bankruptcy. At that point, $440 million of the $535 million loan guarantee already had been pumped into the company.

By law Secretary Chu wasn't allowed to subordinate the taxpayers' money. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 specifically states that the loan guarantee "shall be subject to the condition that the obligation is not subordinate to other financing." It was the clear intention of Congress that taxpayers should be reimbursed first.

For a company that had already been declared in default and had a collapsed business model because the Chinese were selling their solar panels for less, one might question the sanity of private investors who gambled on Solyndra in December of 2010. Were they after Solyndra's intellectual property (IP) rights? As a private investor and the dominant financier, could Argonaut's support of President Obama have helped them secure Solyndra's IP assets?

2. Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and its Shameless Cover-Up

IMAGINE A GOVERNMENT agency designed for the specific purpose of investigating and preventing the unlawful use, manufacture, and possession of firearms. Now imagine this agency engaging in an operation that not only goes against that purpose, but actually seeks to accomplish the opposite, by actively encouraging the sale of firearms to people whose ties to organized crime and gun violence are well known- and that this operation involves sending firearms across an international border into a country that this agency, and the government of which it is a part, purposely failed to warn, inform, or request permission from.

That, in a nutshell, is the Obama administration's "Fast and Furious" program, whose development, bloody results, and ongoing cover-up are comprehensively documented and presented by investigative journalist Katie Pavlich in her new book, Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and its Shameless Cover-Up (Regnery, 2012). In the book's ten chapters and 222 pages (of which nearly sixty are appendices and meticulously cited endnotes), Pavlich makes the case that the Obama administration's "gunwalking" operation "wasn't a 'botched' program, [but] a calculated and lethal decision" by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, with the full knowledge and assent of the Departments of Justice and of Homeland Security, "to purposely place thousands of guns into the hands of ruthless criminals" (p. 162).

3. The Most Ludicrous Graph of the Month

Obama's energy policies are a key vulnerability in the November elections, which has his staff scrambling to make it look like he's actually done something to support domestic energy production. Since neither he nor anyone in his Administration knows the first thing about oil and gas, that can lead to some pretty ridiculous claims.

4. Q&A with with Steve Scalise on Retransmission Consent; Snyder backs Marketplace Fairness Act; Lieberman-Collins gets opposition

I know many RedState readers are big fans of Jim DeMint, so in my coverage of the Retransmission Consent debate, I've focused on him. However he's not the whole story. This Congress, due to the TEA party-driven Republican majority, it's been the House where our major regulatory reform successes have happened. And it's Steve Scalise, Republican of Louisiana and Bobby Jindal's successor in the House, who is the champion of the Next Generation TV Marketplace Act there.

However I know that there have been skeptics on this reform, so I was fortunately able to snag some of the Congressman's time, and ask him a few questions about the proposed reforms.

5. Florida investigation reveals 180,000 non-citizens may be registered to vote

Florida officials have discovered that 180,000 registered voters may be non-citizens.

A CBS4/Miami Herald analysis of information supplied by Miami-Dade shows a large number of the potential non-citizens voters cast ballots in the past - including the 2000 election, when the presidency was decided by just over 500 votes.

According to Deputy Supervisor of Elections Christina White, there are a "lot of non-citizens on our registration rolls."

Florida's Division of Elections is checking the citizenship of voters by comparing drivers license records, which show whether a licensed driver is also a U.S. citizen.

The Left's Seven Tragic Terror Lies

by RALPH PETERS
May 11, 2012

If they did not put our troops, our citizens and our country at risk, the Left's fantastic lies about terror and terrorists would be hilarious. The Left's self-righteous nonsense in this sphere has no grounding in empirical or historical reality, but, then, reality has long been a greater threat to the Left than Islamist fanatics (the last thing any Leftie wants to do is to face the vast human wastage generated by the addictive, enervating and morally debilitating hook-the-poor social programs of the last five decades).

So, when it comes to addressing the real and deadly terrorist threat, the American left responds in the best Marxist-Leninist-Maoist-Chavista and community-organizer traditions: When the facts aren't palatable, make up new "facts." And political correctness has worked its poisonous tentacles so deeply into the American body politic that not even our generals challenge the ludicrous claims the Left hurls at us in its neo-Bolshevik bullying mode of shouting down every last unwelcome truth.

Of course, the left's lies are countless, but the hard left has mastered the art of reducing the most complex human challenges to bumper-sticker slogans as nonsensical as they are reassuring to the herd (the wildly counter-factual prize probably goes to a leftie favorite, "War never changes anything." On the contrary, war has always changed a great deal, which is why we have wars). These happy-face mantras never rise above intellectual flatulence, but the massed sheep on the Left enjoy the aroma ("Yes, we can!").

The problem, of course, is that many of our national leaders have been brainwashed with the same slogans. The Left has mastered another technique dictators forged long ago: Repeat a lie often enough and it will be taken as truth. And, of course, our media play along.

So let's give the slogan-hucksters a brief time-out and dissect just seven of their favorite lines:

BENADOR: American Mother: Say NO to Obama!   May 13, 2012 11:24 am

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all."

It's Mother's Day in America and in a large part of the world, it's the day to celebrate and honor Mother.     The day my Mother was buried, as I saw her coffin slowly being brought down into the earth, the feeling of pain was indescribable and I felt as if  though my inner guts were being torn from my living body... I stayed for hours sitting on the grass they had put over her now buried coffin, saying goodbye to Mother and also the important initial chapter in my life we shared together.

The West Faces Rising Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East   May 11, 2012 07:51 pm

"April is the cruelest month," a line from T.S. Eliot's poem, The Wasteland, was very much in evidence given the eruption of conflicts in the troubled Muslim realms of the Middle East and North Africa. The yearlong rebellion in Syria against the minority Alawite Baathist regime of Bashar al-Assad reached a bloody climax with more than 11,000 slaughtered in the streets of Homs, Damascus and Daara by security forces. This despite the intervention of a UN peacekeeper envoy with a troubled past, former Secretary General Kofi Annan. Annan negotiated a cease fire that has yet to take full effect.

Protect America from What?   May 11, 2012 07:29 pm

A North Korean long-range ballistic missile launch into the Pacific Ocean, Russian threats of a preemptive strike against U.S. missile defenses in Europe, the Syrian regime's continuing violence on protestors, and Taliban terrorist attacks in Afghanistan are just a few of the recent events that should serve to remind us that we are living in uncertain times internationally.

The unfortunate fact is that the world remains a dangerous place, replete with states and non-state actors that hold-or could hold-America and its global interests at serious risk. It is therefore without question that we ignore these national security challenges at our peril.

Searching for Connections Amid Terrorist Threats   May 11, 2012 07:19 pm

In past Security Weeklies we have often noted how analyzing terrorism is like assembling a puzzle. After an attack has transpired, it is easier to piece the disparate clues together because you have the luxury of knowing what the finished puzzle should look like. You know the target, the method of attack, the time, the place, etc. These factors frame your approach to the bits of evidence you gather and allow you to assemble them into a cohesive, logical framework. While there will certainly be missing pieces at times, having the reference point of the attack itself is helpful to investigators and analysts.

Newt Gingrich's exit from the Presidential Primary last Wednesday left voters with clear battle lines.  Americans are confronted with the choice between Obama and Romney.  With that knowledge in mind, I find it inconceivable that any evangelical could still act as though there is any choice left about which candidate to support in this Presidential election.

Obama's Offshore Plan: One Giant Leap Backwards   May 10, 2012 03:14 pm

After oil prices reached new highs in 2008, the Bush administration and Congress moved to open almost all of the outer continental shelf to oil and gas exploration and development. But in November 2011, the Obama administration released an offshore drilling plan that closes much of the offshore United States to oil and gas drilling that had been opened by President Bush and Congress. The Obama administration's plan closes those offshore areas to energy exploration and production through at least 2017. The plan allows lease sales to occur in the portions of the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska that were already open to leasing, leaving the entire Atlantic and Pacific coasts off-limits.[i]

It has overt and covert, illegal and legal elements, the latter of which are designed, at least in part, to facilitate illegal activities later. It is a deliberate, premeditated, comprehensive plan to win the 2012 presidential election at all costs, and is in keeping with the organizational methods, associations and ethics of the Community-Organizer-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

Mahmoud Abbas:

Jerusalem only has Islamic and Christian history,
Israel's "Judaization" is stealing Jerusalem's
"cultural, human, and Islamic-Christian
religious history"

Mahmoud Abbas' advisor:
Israel is creating "artificial heritage
with a Jewish spirit at the expense
of its [Jerusalem's] true and authentic [identity]
as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city"

by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority continue to deny Israel's 3,000 years of history in Jerusalem, claiming it is solely an Arab, Muslim and Christian city. Earlier this month, Abbas referred to Israel's presence and activities in Jerusalem as "Judaization" and stated that Israel is stealing what he called the "cultural, human, and Islamic-Christian religious history."

Last month, Abbas' advisor for Jerusalem said that Israel is trying:
"to create an artificial heritage with a Jewish spirit at the expense of its true and authentic [identity] as an Arab, Islamic and Christian city."
This is not the first time that Abbas has denied Jewish history in Jerusalem and claimed the city for Islam alone. Palestinian Media Watch has reported that Mahmoud Abbas said that taking Jerusalem from Israel is a religious Islamic obligation of the highest level, a "fard ayn" - a personal Islamic commandment incumbent on every Muslim:
"I say to the leaders of our Arab nation and to its peoples: Jerusalem and its environs are a trust that Allah entrusted to us. Saving it [Jerusalem] from the settlement monster and the danger of Judaization and [land] confiscation is a personal [Islamic] commandment [Arabic: fard ayn] incumbent on all of us. Therefore, I call all of you to serious and urgent action to save [Jerusalem] and to make available all possibilities in order to strengthen our resolve and to maintain its historical, cultural and religious character."
[Al-Jazeera TV, March 27, 2010]

In a different speech, Abbas said in 2010:
"The oppressor will not last in Jerusalem; the oppression will not endure. Victory will come, Allah willing. This land is Allah's best land, for which He chooses the finest of His believers, as it is written in the words of the Prophet [Muhammad]."
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, July 11, 2010]

Abbas' Minister of Religion Mahmoud Al-Habbash claimed that Jerusalem has been:
"throughout history, the capital of the Palestinian state and the capital of the Palestinian people."
[PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 20, 2010]

Neither claim is correct. There has never been a Palestinian state and Jerusalem was never the capital of an Arab or Muslim state. Nonetheless, the minister warned there would be religious war over Jerusalem:
"The term 'war' cannot be erased from the lexicon of this region as long as Jerusalem is occupied."

Kansas lawmakers pass anti-Islamic law measure

Published May 11, 2012

|

A bill designed to prevent Kansas courts or government agencies from making decisions based on Islamic or other foreign legal codes has cleared the state Legislature after a contentious debate about whether the measure upholds American values or appeals to prejudice against Muslims.

The Senate approved the bill Friday on a 33-3 vote. The House had approved it, 120-0, earlier in the week. The measure goes next to Republican Gov. Sam Brownback, who hasn't said whether he'll sign or veto the measure.

The measure doesn't specifically mention Shariah law, which broadly refers to codes within the Islamic legal system. Instead, it says that courts, administrative agencies or state tribunals can't base rulings on any foreign law or legal system that would not grant the parties the same rights guaranteed by state and U.S. constitutions.

"Legal jihad": Radical Islam exploiting our legal system

It's called "legal jihad" and "lawfare"-and it's one of the tactics in the tool chest of radical Islam.

"Legal jihad" uses lawsuits or threats of lawsuits to intimidate critics of radical Islam.

Another intimidation tactic being increasingly employed by groups like CAIR is warnings and even threats lodged against hotels and other venues that host events that expose the threat of radical Islam. The objective is to get the events canceled or shut down.

The good news is there are organizations like the Thomas More Law Center that are successfully fighting back against these tactics.

That's why we're excited to announce that we've added another outstanding feature to our National Conference and Legislative Briefing-a briefing by Richard Thompson, the President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center.

Mr. Thompson will explain the types of tactics used by groups like CAIR and the best ways to prevent-and if necessary-fight back against these tactics.

We are sure this will be invaluable information to every conference attendee!!!

Here are just two victories won by the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC):

  • Earlier this year, a Detroit judge ordered the city of Dearborn to pay over $100,000 in legal fees to the TMLC. TMLC defended a Christian pastor who had been arrested at an Arab festival in Dearborn.
  • In 2009 and 2010, TMLC successfully defended Joe Kaufman, an investigative reporter, against an intimidation lawsuit filed in Texas by several Muslim groups.
As we reported in an email last week, TMLC recently filed a suit against CAIR-Michigan and others after an event promoting ALAC (American Laws for American Courts) was shut down. One of the plaintiffs in the suit is ACT! for America chapter leader Beth Griffin.

LOG ON HERE to register or find out more about our upcoming National Conference & Legislative Briefing. The conference starts in just 48 days, and if you want to ensure you'll get a hotel room at the heavily discounted conference rate, you need to reserve your room by June 1. PROFILES IN COURAGE

So after four years, Obama finally got around to openly stating a position that everyone knew he always held, but that he sorta denied he held until the fundraising needs were bad enough to bring it to the table. And it's a position devoid of specific commitments too.

If that's not courage, I don't know what is.

Four years from now maybe he'll finally admit that he intended to badly damage American business and have the Muslim Brotherhood take over the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the media is chewing over what Romney did in high school, described under the trendy label of "Bullying". Isn't it wonderful how we can't nail down what Obama was doing far more recently than that, but our dedicated media corps is busy investing what Romney was doing as in high school.

Any day now we can expect a hard hitting piece on Romney's war on women in first grade. The current news lineup includes a congratulatory piece on Obama's fundraising, an attack on Romney via his High School years and another attack on Romney from Obama over the auto bailout.

We may not quite be living under communism, but we are certainly living under its media apparatus.

The Fire Burns
The circle of men whirls around the fire, hand in hand, hand catching hand, drawing in newcomers into the ring that races around and around in the growing darkness. A melody thumps through the speakers teetering unevenly with the bass, the sound is both old and new, a mix of the past and the present, like the participants in the dance, the traditional garments mixing with jeans and t-shirts until it is all a blur.

It is Lag BaOmer, an obscure holiday to most, even to those who come to the fires. The remnants of the Jewish Revolt against the might of the Roman Empire are remembered as days of deprivation in memory of the thousands of students dying in the war, until the thirty-third day of the Biblical Omer, part of the way between Passover and Shavuot, the day when Jerusalem was liberated.

Deprived of music for weeks, it rolls back in waves through speakers, from horns blown by children and a makeshift drum echoing an ancient celebration when men danced around fires and shot arrows into the air. The fires and bows have remained a part of Lag BaOmer, even when hardly anyone remembers the true reason for them.

The new Yom Yerushalayim, the day of the liberation of the city, is coming up soon, but the old Yom Yerushalaim, came thousands of years ago and ten days before it on the calendar. Time is a wheel, and, like a circle, everything comes around again. Hands pulling on hands, years pulling on years, on and on like the orbits of planets and stars. The Divine Hand of G-d pulls us along, and we pull each other in the dance of life.

The circle speeds up, men racing faster and faster, the children left behind, as the flames sputter and night falls. The rebellion, although bravely fought, failed, and Jerusalem fell again, and then Betar. The joy of the celebration turned to ashes, but, even in the shadow of the empire, their spirit endured. The stories were changed a little, the rebellion encoded into a story of Rabbi Akiva, the pivotal scholarly figure in the war, and of his students who perished because they had not been able to get along with one another. The failure of unity had been the underlying reason for the Roman conquest and the Jewish defeats. It is the ancient lesson still unlearned that the circle of the dance teaches us.

 Who's Advising Obama on Israel?

Jonathan S. Tobin 05.10.2012

We've been hearing a lot from Jewish Democrats and the administration itself that Barack Obama is the best friend Israel has ever had or as in Joe Biden's fractured fairy tale version of history, "has done more for Israel's security than any president since Harry Truman" - a president who actually did nothing for Israel's security. The incessant sniping and attempts to pressure Israel during the first three years of the Obama administration makes this hyperbole the height of absurdity. But, as I have written before, it is possible to overstate Obama's hostility to Israel and its government.

The issue now is not so much what the president has done with regard to Israel. After three years of hostility, his re-election effort has given birth to a full-blown Jewish charm offensive that, if it were to continue into a second term, would do much to allay the concerns of even his most fervent critics. The question in the minds of most friends of Israel is what will happen when a re-elected Obama has the "flexibility" to do as he likes with regard to the Jewish state and the Middle East. In that regard, the report in Politico about Obama sitting down with a group of left-wing pundits, many of whom have views wildly out of touch with the reality of the Middle East, to brainstorm about how to deal with the region and, in particular Israel, has to scare mainstream pro-Israel Democrats. That the president is listening to people like Peter Beinart, David Remnick and Joe Klein tells us all we need to know about how long the Jewish charm offensive will last after a November victory for the Democrats.

Sorry, Joe, most of Iran's nuclear progress has come under Obama

By Marc A. Thiessen, Published: May 10

Speaking in Atlanta Tuesday, Vice President Biden lashed out at the Bush administration for its failure to stop Iran's drive toward a nuclear weapon. "When we took office, let me remind, there was virtually no international pressure on Iran," Biden declared. "We were the problem. We were diplomatically isolated in the world, in the region, in Europe. Today it is starkly, starkly different."

The situation is starkly different today - but not in the way Biden suggests.

To begin , Biden's statement was factually incorrect - the United States was not "diplomatically isolated" on Iran until he and President Obama arrived on the scene. Quite the opposite. In 2008 - the year before Obama took office - the Bush administration got the U.N. Security Council to approve its third round of sanctions on Iran, persuaded the European Union to impose new sanctions (including an assets freeze on Iran's biggest bank), got the permanent five members of the Security Council plus Germany and Australia to agree to additional sanctions.

But since Biden is so proud of the increased "pressure" the Obama administration has put on Iran to stop its drive for the bomb, it's fair to ask: What are the results of that increased pressure?

The fact is, the situation today is far worse than the one Obama and Biden inherited. As the American Enterprise Institute's Maseh Zarif has ably documented (using data from the IAEA), the vast majority of Iran's progress toward developing a nuclear weapon has come since the Obama-Biden administration took office.

Consider these facts:

Strassel: Trolling for Dirt on the President's List

First a Romney supporter was named on an Obama campaign website. That was followed by the slimy trolling into a citizen's private life.

Here's what happens when the president of the United States publicly targets a private citizen for the crime of supporting his opponent.

Frank VanderSloot is the CEO of Melaleuca Inc. The 63-year-old has run that wellness-products company for 26 years out of tiny Idaho Falls, Idaho. Last August, Mr. VanderSloot gave $1 million to Restore Our Future, the Super PAC that supports Mitt Romney.

Three weeks ago, an Obama campaign website, "Keeping GOP Honest," took the extraordinary step of publicly naming and assailing eight private citizens backing Mr. Romney. Titled "Behind the curtain: a brief history of Romney's donors," the post accused the eight of being "wealthy individuals with less-than-reputable records." Mr. VanderSloot was one of the eight, smeared particularly as being "litigious, combative and a bitter foe of the gay rights movement."

About a week after that post, a man named Michael Wolf contacted the Bonneville County Courthouse in Idaho Falls in search of court records regarding Mr. VanderSloot. Specifically, Mr. Wolf wanted all the documents dealing with Mr. VanderSloot's divorces, as well as a case involving a dispute with a former Melaleuca employee.

Protecting Afghani Dancing Boys Culture - raping young boys- shouldn't be our mission

May 13, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

George Spelvin, staff writer

While our corrupt U.S. media bash every thing our military does, however minute, they spike any stories that depict the true Afghani culture that our soldiers are confronted with every day while in that country.  Ann

Barnhardt's hard hitting four part series of youtube videos on Islamic sexuality brings home to  audiences what our media refuse to tell you.  Any type of charge against especially Catholic priests regarding pedophilia is reported  over and over, yet when it comes to Afghanistan media hypocrites aren't telling it the way it really is according to Barnhardt.

BACHA BAZI is practiced by wealthy Afghani men, especially warlords, who appropriate poor little boys aged around 11 years to 16 for their own sexual exploitation, and the government just looks the other way.

What our soldiers are up against could very well be the disgust and disillusionment over what's known as the Dancing Boys Culture in which poor ... Continue Reading:Protecting Afghani Dancing Boys Culture - raping young boys- shouldn't be our mission

American Minute May 12

May 12, 2012 06:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bill Federer, staff writer

MAY 12, 1502, Christopher Columbus set sail from Cadiz, Spain, on his last voyage to the New World.
Shortly after reaching the Caribbean Sea, a hurricane devastated Santo Domingo.
Later that year, another terrible storm beset them, as Columbus recorded:
"The tempest arose and wearied me so that I knew not where to turn, my old wound opened up, and for 9 days I was lost without hope of life; eyes never beheld the sea so angry and covered with foam."
Columbus continued:
"The wind not only prevented our progress, but offered no opportunity to run behind any headland for shelter; hence we were forced to keep out in this bloody ocean, seething like a pot on a hot fire. The people were so worn out that they longed for death."
After a day and a half of continuous lightning, Columbus' 15-year-old son, Ferdinand, recorded that on December ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 12

High school junkie Barack Obama has always been a fake

May 12, 2012 03:01 pm | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

To become the type of fake Barack Obama is takes years of work. Now past fifty - if we are to believe his questionable birth documents - he has perfected the art of fakery, but getting there had to start many years ago in high school. When he was a shiftless high school student in Hawaii Barack Obama habitually used drugs to get through "the daily demands" of doing little or no academic work.  In one of his autobiographies (how narcissistic does one have to be to write two while not yet 45 years old?) Dreams From My Father Obama wrote that he "tried drugs enthusiastically." He was such an open and regular user of pot that he had a "Choom Gang" which was the term Hawaiian high school drug addicts used to refer to their pot using circle of friends.

As late as 2007 - remember that was when he was telling reporters he was ... Continue Reading:High school junkie Barack Obama has always been a fake

All Hail the Narcissist-In- Chief!

May 12, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 Jim Emerson staff writer

In August of 1934 members the Wehrmacht were required to recite a Reichswehreid, an oath of personal allegiance to Adolf Hitler. This oath ignored God and country but swore an oath to a man, Adolf Hitler. The soldiers were to fight and die on the behalf of the dear leader. Such loyalty oaths originated in ancient Rome and have been repeated throughout history and to different tyrants.

 Obama

It is a rumor that Obama wishes the members of the American military would swear and an oath to him over God and the Constitution. But in his narcissist mindset he truly believes the military serves at his whim. In an ABC interview concerning his flip-flop on Gay marriage he said "when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that 'don't ask, don't tell' is gone,"

Smelling communism on Democrats Soviet immigrants make fools of them and vote GOP

May 11, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The day after Barack Obama's election, a physical therapist from the old Soviet union, who came to Staten Island to live in freedom, got a call from her best friend, a fellow Soviet immigrant, who lives in the Russian section of Brooklyn. The caller got one word out before they both started to cry for three minutes. Then the caller speaking Russian said, "We came here to escape them. Where do we go now?" Both women knew the "Them" were Communists and both saw Democrats as no different from Communists.

To those who don't live in either the Brooklyn or Staten Island portions of New York City, Republican Bob Turner's victory in a special election to fill Anthony Weiner's vacant Congressional seat is a fluke caused by public disgust at Weiner's antics. That explanation is foolishness supported by stunned Democrats and their cheerleaders in the media. It was a result of a big Russian ... Why are McCain and Kyl merely watching Obama and Holder's war on America's Sheriff?

May 11, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By George Spelvin, staff writer

Barack Obama and his Attorney General Eric Holder are going all in with their fight to silence America's Sheriff, Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County Arizona.  Reports from Arizona are pulling back the curtain on the staggering amount of taxpayer money along with unlimited leftist private funds being thrown against Arpaio. "Obama has joined forces with George Soros and LaRaza-not to mention the ENTIRE Leftwing liberal political establishment-in a multi-million dollar smear campaign to DESTROY AND DISCREDIT Sheriff Joe," says blogger Conservative Patriot.

American Minute May 10

May 10, 2012 06:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bill Federer, staff writer

A surprise attack before dawn on MAY 10, 1775, gave America one of its first victories of the Revolutionary War.
Just 3 weeks after Lexington and Concord, Ethan Allen led 83 Green Mountain Boys of Vermont to capture Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain by overrunning it in the early morning while the British sentry was sleeping.
Ethan Allen, whose statue is in the U.S. Capitol's Statuary Hall, demanded immediate surrender.
The bewildered British captain asked in whose name such a request was being made.
Ethan Allen hotly retorted:
"In the Name of the Great Jehovah and the Continental Congress."
Fort Ticonderoga's 50 cannons were incredibly moved by 25-year-old Colonel Henry Knox over 200 miles from New York across Vermont and New Hampshire to a hill overlooking Boston Harbor, forcing British ships to evacuate.
Three weeks after the capture of Fort Ticonderoga, Harvard President Samuel Langdon told the ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 10

Obama's announcement of support for Gay "marriage" shows panic leads to mistakes

May 10, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Panic leads to mistakes.

Barack Obama's announcement of support for Gay "marriage" was not the result of a "heartfelt" search for "what is right for America." It was the result of full blown panic and a search for what is best for Barack Obama that will be devastating in November.  The huge 61/39 landslide loss Gay "marriage" took in North Carolina apparently set off a panic in Obama's camp that "demanded" action.

This brought about Obama's tense "declaration" of support for Gay "marriage" something that directly contradicts what he said about the issue in 2008.

More than this, it has made raising enthusiasm to vote among African Americans harder by a wide margin. For Obama the low energy level among his natural base was troublesome until 3 PM Wednesday. Three minutes later that "troublesome" problem exploded into a raging fire that will require time and energy to put out - time and energy ... Washington Post Romney Hit Piece Implodes

  by Ben Shapiro

Today's unconscionable Washington Post story, which implied without evidence that Mitt Romney was a homophobic bully to one John Lauber back in his high school days five decades ago, has totally imploded.

Timed to drop the day after President Obama's announced embrace of same-sex marriage, the story set the political world atwitter. But earlier today, Breitbart News reported that the Post had inflated witness testimony. The original Washington Post piece stated the following:

"I always enjoyed his pranks," said Stu White, a popular friend of Romney's who went on to a career as a public school teacher and has long been bothered by the Lauber incident. [emphasis added]

Yet in an interview with ABC News today, White disowned that characterization:

A 'Gutsy Call' on Same-Sex Marriage

No surprise, but Obama backs same-sex marriage

"I think same-sex couples should be able to get married," Barack Obama told ABC News Wednesday. Media lemmings and Democrats -- but we repeat ourselves -- fawned over this "evolution" in Obama's thought on the subject, calling his statement brave, principled and, as The New York Times put it, "strong national leadership." That this was a "gutsy call" could not be further from the truth.

The only thing one could construe as "brave" about Obama's predictable cave is that he came out of the closet the day after North Carolina voters approved, 61-39, a constitutional amendment affirming marriage as being between one man and one woman. Now 30 states have similar amendments. Coincidentally, Democrats will hold their national convention in North Carolina, a state Obama hopes to carry once again. Obviously, he thinks his base needed this cause to rally around him for re-election, which is, after all, the point of everything he does. He certainly didn't waste any time fundraising off his flip-flop. Forward!

The president's hand was forced when Joe Biden opened his trap Sunday, saying he is "absolutely comfortable" with same-sex marriage. Still, Obama swears he "had already made a decision that we were going to take this position before the election and before the convention." He said Biden "probably got out a little bit over his skis," but insisted, "all's well that ends well."

Obama's true position on the subject has always been known, despite his effort to eat his wedding cake and have it too. "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages," Obama said ... in 1996 when he was running for Illinois state senate. When he ran for U.S. Senate in 2004 and president in 2008, his view was that "marriage is between a man and a woman." Then in 2010, he belatedly declared that his views were "evolving." In other words, his position always has been a political charade. As evidence, we submit his latest campaign ad, which slams Romney as "backwards on equality" -- a place Obama found himself just 24 hours earlier.

Obama would be correct with his newfound federalism to call marriage an issue for states to decide -- if indeed the government has anyrole -- but that too is a charade. After all, his Justice Department has refused to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which leaves the matter to the states. (That bill passed both houses of Congress with large majorities before being signed into law in 1996 by Bill Clinton.) And if the Supreme Court discovers same-sex marriage to be a constitutional right under some obscure penumbra, no one doubts that Obama will celebrate.

For presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, this is the latest in a string of Obama's orchestrated distractions, but who can blame the president for not wanting to talk about the dismal economy? He would much rather talk about a phony "war on women," dogs on car roofs and same-sex marriage than 324,000 women leaving the labor force in the last two months alone, or the fact that one in three young Americans is underemployed. To be sure, Obama admitted, "Sometimes I forget" the magnitude of the recession. Small wonder.

Romney took on the marriage issue anyway, saying, "My view is that marriage itself is a relationship between a man and a woman," and insisted, "I have the same view I've had since, well, since running for office." Yet he also expressed frustration with reporters who aren't asking about "issues of significance."

We won't go so far as to call the issue a distraction, though it's of far lesser import in this election than the economy or the size of the federal government. Marriage is the building block of family and society, and to redefine it so drastically is to undermine its integrity. All people have inherent dignity and worth -- no one here is engaging in what the Left derides as "gay bashing" -- but words and institutions have meanings, and it's important that we maintain them. It's a shame that some would use the issue as nothing more than a campaign fundraiser.

Just how brave was Obama? And who should decide the issue?

This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Award

On how same-sex marriage squares with the Obamas as "practicing Christians," he said, "[O]bviously this position may be considered to put us at odds with the views of others, but, you know, when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it's also the Golden Rule, you know, treat others the way you would want to be treated." Never mind the rest of the Bible.

On the military, Obama opined that his rationale came from "when I think about those Soldiers or Airmen or Marines or Sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage."

The military fights on his behalf? On the contrary, the military fights for the nation, and they do it far too well to serve as political pawns for Obama's craven attempts to rally his base.

Campaign Trail: Real Media Distractions

While most of the Leftmedia was swooning over Obama's courageous flip-flop on same-sex marriage, The Washington Post's hard-hitting journalism uncovered -- wait for it -- Mitt Romney's high-school pranks. The Post, in what turns out to have been a factually challenged story, even insinuated that Romney tormented a homosexual classmate. As much as leftists deride conservatives for bitterly clinging to the past, they sure are obsessed with an event that supposedly occurred 50 years ago. Memo to the Post: Congratulations; you've reminded us why teenagers aren't eligible to run for president. Then again, if the issue is high school, why have the media so thoroughly ignored Obama's past, which includes bullying and drug use?

Romney responded quickly with an apology, though he denied knowledge of his classmate's sexual orientation. "I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school and some might have gone too far and for that, I apologize," Romney said, thereby highlighting the ridiculous and petty nature of the Post's "scoop." Now his job is to keep the focus on what a lousy president Obama is.

The Biggest Lugar

Incumbent Republican Sen. Dick Lugar's was one of the nastier campaigns for Senate in recent years. The supposed "gentlemanly statesman" from Indiana pulled everything from the Democrat Dirty Politics playbook in an attempt to destroy the reputation of a good man, state treasurer Richard Mourdock. The latter had the backing of the Tea Party, the Club for Growth and others, and trounced Lugar by 20 points in Tuesday's primary. During his 35 years in the Senate, Lugar was not as "moderate" as some other Republicans, but his lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 80 left much to be desired. More than anything, perhaps, Hoosiers just wanted fresh blood. They might also have wanted a senator who actually lives in Indiana.

Given that Lugar had won his four most recent elections with at least two-thirds majority, including 87 percent in 2006, the victory is a big one for the Tea Party, which was declared to be in critical condition by the Leftmedia. In his concession speech, Lugar faintly endorsed Mourdock, but he then issued a press release claiming that, if Mourdock can win, his "unrelenting partisan mindset" will render him ineffective in the Senate. Some read that as a signal that Lugar will work against Mourdock. The task in November is to keep the ball rolling -- Mourdock will be the favorite, but winning won't be easy.

Around the World: The French Election

Across the pond, Socialist François Hollande won the presidency of France earlier this week, defeating incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy with just over 51 percent of the vote. Hollande, France's first Socialist president in 17 years, promised to pursue policies to raise taxes on the wealthy and boost government spending to cure his nation's fiscal ills. He also came in blaming his predecessor for the worst economy since the Great Depression. Sound familiar?

Sarkozy's defeat and a similar electoral shake-up in Greece are indicative of European voter frustration over the EU's inability to manage the continent's fiscal woes. The trend could also spell trouble for British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who, along with Sarkozy, have supported enacting austerity measures, particularly for economic basket cases such as Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain. These recent elections are a reflection of anger over those austerity measures.

The problem is that there really are no austerity measures in place in the EU. Many governments enacted "stimulus" packages after 2008 when the worldwide financial crisis began, and in 2011, 23 of 27 EU member states increased spending. In 2012, 24 will do so. Government spending as a portion of GDP has risen steadily since 2000, currently standing at 49.2 percent. The countries that supposedly enacted austerity measures -- France, Spain, Greece and Great Britain -- are still spending at pre-recession levels, and France and the UK have not cut spending at all. Small reductions in Greece and Spain sparked riots in the streets, but the cuts are nowhere near what is needed to correct the situation.

Barack Obama was quick to congratulate his ideological kindred spirit and will be meeting with Hollande in the coming weeks, but he has already signaled that the incoming French president might want to take it easy before raising taxes and spending. This is surprising advice from a president who has failed to right America's fiscal ship with drastically increased spending. Yet the last thing Obama wants while campaigning for re-election is for American voters to see proof in Europe that the socialist, big government policies he supports are a failure.

New & Notable Legislation

The House voted 330-93 to extend the charter for the Export-Import Bank this week. The Ex-Im Bank received bipartisan support for years as an avenue of cheap, taxpayer-backed financing for some of America's largest companies, but it has recently come under fire from conservatives looking to trim the size of government. All the nay votes came from Republicans, while Democrats unanimously backed the measure in hopes of shedding their anti-business image. They were able to convince enough Republicans to continue subsidizing loans for businesses that are perfectly capable of obtaining their own financing. Swift passage is likely in the Senate.

Senate Republicans successfully blocked a bill that sought to lock in subsidized student-loan interest rates and offset it by closing certain tax loopholes for businesses. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) noted that it doesn't make sense to raise taxes on the very companies that are hiring college graduates. Senate Republicans may follow the House bill that proposes offsetting the interest rate subsidy by taking money from an ObamaCare money pool already used by Democrats as a slush fund.

Hope 'n' Change: Pre-Existing Problems

Another week, another ObamaCare program cancelled for underperformance. The Pre-Existing Conditions Insurance Plan (PCIP) was designed to provide coverage for people with pre-existing conditions until 2014, when every insurance company will be mandated to take all comers, regardless of their current medical condition. The Obama administration maintains that virtually half of all Americans suffer from a pre-existing medical condition, and it expected up to 375,000 enrollees. Only 56,000 actually signed up, but while total enrollment was overestimated, the cost per enrollee was underestimated -- cost per person was actually 2.5 times higher than originally figured. The miscalculation indicates that the administration is -- surprise! -- lowballing the total cost for covering the uninsured.

From the 'Non Compos Mentis' File

Last week, we poked fun at Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat challenger for Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown's Senate seat, for her longtime practice of claiming Native American heritage to help her land various jobs in academia. She's currently a Harvard law professor. Now, the story has unfolded further and is even more bizarre than advertised. Warren's claim that great-great-great grandmother O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford had Cherokee heritage didn't hold up under scrutiny, but what's more interesting is that her great-great-great grandfather was a member of the Tennessee Militia that helped round up Cherokees at Ross's Landing in Chattanooga -- the point of origin for the Trail of Tears. The whole thing led blogger Allahpundit to quip, "All that's left now is the inevitable revelation that Scott Brown is part Cherokee and that his ancestors were rounded up by Warren's and this narrative will be wrapped up in a pretty little bow."

Regulatory Commissars: The Food You Eat

For many years the federal government has pleaded with Americans to eat more healthful food and embrace a more fit lifestyle, but that message has reached a fever pitch with First Lady Michelle Obama's preaching on nutrition and fitness from her bully pulpit. Even so, Americans are pudgier than ever, and the nanny state can't have that. Public health officials warned this week that, by 2030, nearly half of the adult population will be obese.

At the climax of a three-day Centers for Disease Control "Weight of the Nation" conference, the Institute of Medicine released a nearly 500-page report on how this can be addressed -- by the government, of course. It included the old standard of adopting a penny-per-ounce soda tax, but the study also delved into social planning, such as incentives to build sidewalks in residential developments and promoting commuting via bicycle to new grocery stores located in so-called "food deserts." Schools could be required to provide 60 minutes of physical education each day and cut out access to sugary drinks and snacks.

Our problem isn't with sidewalks, bicycle lanes or grocery stores with healthful food but with federal interference with an issue of personal responsibility. As the regulator of the health care system, the government will more often dictate what's good for us, like it or not. The nanny state isn't cheap, either. The administration consumed $830 million to study obesity in 2011. Honestly, how much can it cost to say, "Eat better and exercise more"?

What say should the government have in what you eat?

Around the Nation: Postal Weight Loss

The United States Postal Service is hemorrhaging cash -- $3.2 billion in the second quarter alone -- under the weight of decreased demand from customers and increased costs from employee pensions and benefits. It had a plan to close up to 3,700 rural post offices, cut Saturday delivery and make other such reforms to save money, but the "not in my back yard" outcry was so great, that the Postal Service backed off. "We've listened to our customers in rural America, and we've heard them loud and clear. They want to keep their post office open," said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe. Instead, some 13,000 rural post offices will see hours reduced, 21,000 local postmasters will be offered early retirement and post offices will look to partner with other local businesses in an effort to cut costs.

Meanwhile, Congress is considering a plan to save the Postal Service $20 billion a year, including early retirement for 100,000 postal workers, though it would delay facility closures another two years and keep Saturday delivery.

A Corny Idea for Renewable Energy

In 2007, Congress passed (and George W. Bush foolishly signed) a sweeping series of mandates for energy usage. Most are familiar with the demise of the incandescent light bulb as a result of that bill, but another aspect of the legislation was a requirement that America use 36 billion gallons of "renewable transport fuel" by 2022. In an effort to hasten the artificial growth of the ethanol market to meet this arbitrary demand, the EPA is "encouraging" oil companies to increase the blend of ethanol in gasoline to 15 percent (E15) -- 10 percent (E10) is the current standard. Even the Agriculture Department is getting in on the persuasion.

"Big Oil" balks at the idea, making the case (again) that completely new equipment would be required to handle the reformulated fuel. Besides, corn-based ethanol presents a number of problems: It's more corrosive and damaging to both pumping equipment and gasoline engines, fuel economy suffers because ethanol doesn't provide as many miles per gallon, and the usage of massive amounts of corn for energy rather than for food leads to food shortages abroad and higher grocery prices for all.

Undaunted, the federal government is plodding on with the changeover. The Obama administration is assisting service station owners with installing the blender pumps necessary to dispense the E15, while both "stimulus" and farm bill money has gone to research and development on biofuels. None of this will help the car owner whose engine is ruined by mistakenly pumping E15.

Warfront With Jihadistan: Bomb Plot Foiled

U.S. intelligence agencies chalked up another victory against al-Qa'ida, as a plot to bring down an American airliner, possibly on or near the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death, was stopped dead in its tracks. Details are still emerging and questions are being raised about how this operation came to light, but it looks as if CIA operatives inside al-Qa'ida were able to intercept a more advanced version of the famed "underwear bomb," which was used in the failed 2009 Christmas Day attempt to bring down an airliner over Detroit. During this elaborate operation, the CIA, working with foreign intelligence, tracked the bomb's movements for weeks. The bomb was turned over to the CIA by an inside informant, allegedly a Saudi who had penetrated al-Qa'ida by posing as a suicide bomber, before he fled to Yemen. After obtaining the bomb, the CIA then killed the al-Qa'ida plotters in a drone strike.

According to a U.S. official, the bomb was "viable" and probably would detonate if used, although it had design flaws that might have degraded its effectiveness. The FBI now has the bomb and is studying its design, and U.S. intelligence agencies hope to learn more about the tactics and technology now used by al-Qa'ida. Kudos to U.S. intelligence agencies and our allies for infiltrating al-Qa'ida and making this a successful mission. Of course, according to the White House, the War on Terror is over...

Speaking of the anniversary of bin Laden's trip to his virgins, it's well known how Obama continues to exploit the achievements of the Navy SEALs as he and his minions claim that this was one of the "gutsiest" command decisions of all time. However, the truth is that Dear Leader was actually ready to wash his hands of his decision in the event of failure. Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey notes that the Obama regime drafted a memo to protect Obama from blame if the mission failed, allowing the commander in chief to blame Admiral William McRaven, commander of United States Special Operations Command, instead. Shameful, but really, should we expect anything more from this "leader"?

Department of Military Readiness: The High Cost of Mediocrity

This week the House unveiled its $608 billion defense bill for the upcoming year. Before anyone gets too excited about so much military spending, however, we should mention that this number pales in comparison to the $3.8 trillion the government will likely spend in FY2013, nearly all of which has zero to do with any role the Founders envisioned for the federal government. We should also mention that approximately $90 billion of the defense appropriations bill goes toward the Afghanistan war effort, along with other counterterrorism measures.

Naturally, House Republicans are under fire from the Leftmedia for wanting to cut social programs to fund defense, and Barack Obama has threatened to veto any such effort, but unlike the vast bulk of other taxpayer-extorted largesse known as the federal "budget," defense spending is actually authorized by the Constitution (hint: Article I, Section 8). In fact, defense -- unlike health care (let alone ObamaCare), unemployment payouts, Medicare, pension bankrolling, welfare doling, college loan funding and a host of other "programs" not mentioned in the Constitution -- is a fundamental role of government.

That said, most Americans understand that defense spending is not always efficient. Take for instance the U.S. Air Force programs for the F-22 and F-35, both plagued by cost overruns, delays and missteps. The latest revelation comes in the form of a "60 Minutes" segment on problems associated with the F-22's onboard oxygen-generating system, or "OBOGS." The system processes ambient air through the jet's engines to deliver concentrated oxygen to the pilot. Engineers and specialists are at a loss to find the source of this problem, which has caused a number of physiological incidents, near-deaths and at least one death in which the system was a potential, if not likely, suspect. Some pilots are refusing to fly the plane until the problem is fixed.

However, most Americans also understand that the issue is not only efficiency. If it were, we might recommend closing up shop at the Pentagon tomorrow. The real issue is how the nation can best address likely threats to national security and spend accordingly. Efficiency is one of many factors, of course, but the ultimate driver is the forecasted threat and how to defeat it. Tens if not hundreds of thousands of military planners and acquisition experts working in concert made their best attempts to answer that question, generating programs such as the F-22 and F-35. These are hyper-advanced and capable systems, but like any complex system composed of cutting-edge technologies throughout, they have problems to remedy. At each step of the way, however, the goal is always to provide the most capable defense to threats facing vital U.S. interests. Defense planners and financial analysts "get" this -- unfortunately, the nation's leadership apparently does not.

The OBOGS problem -- like other problems associated with the F-22 or F-35 -- will eventually be identified and remedied. A bigger problem is a do-nothing Congress and bow-to-our-enemies president who put a greater value on siphoning defense funds to buy election votes than on protecting the country and its people. Misguided fiscal priorities turn would-be lethal weapons systems like these fighter jets into totems of mediocrity, and if potential enemies are led to believe that the U.S. is weak on defense, rest assured the ultimate price will be a lot higher than the cost of a fighter jet program.

Immigration Front: Border Patrol Strategy

With its existing strategy eight years old, the U.S. Border Patrol this week unveiled a new national strategy aimed at using "intelligence-driven" and "risk-based" tactics to secure our nation's borders. Until now, the Border Patrol's approach has involved increasing the number of agents in highly trafficked crossings in order to re-direct would-be illegal immigrants to more remote areas where they would be easier to apprehend. Under the new approach, the Border Patrol will work to understand why offenders repeat, and it will increase penalties on frequent crossers. This change comes at a time when reports say illegal immigration is at a historic low. The Associated Press notes, "Last year, the Border Patrol made 327,577 apprehensions on the Mexican border, down 80 percent from more than 1.6 million in 2000. It was the slowest year since 1971." According to the Pew Hispanic Center, "After four decades that brought 12 million current immigrants -- more than half of whom came illegally -- the net migration flow from Mexico to the U.S. has stopped and may have reversed."

While some of the decline is attributable to better enforcement -- since 2004, the Border Patrol has doubled its agent force to 21,000 while adding tools such as fencing, cameras and sensors -- another factor, particularly in recent years, is an economy that offers fewer job opportunities. With multiple factors at play, though, and illegal immigration still a significant security concern, we just hope the new strategy avoids becoming risk evaluation based on political correctness rather than on legal and security threats.

Profiles of Valor: A Salute to Military Spouses

We were contacted by an Army wife this week who said, "A few weeks ago, I released a YouTube video for the song, which I directed, produced and edited. No actors were used in the video -- only active duty Army soldiers and their families who were preparing for deployments at the time of filming. Those soldiers are now deployed to Afghanistan, so the video is very much 'art-meets-life.'" We're sharing this video on Military Spouse Appreciation Day as a way to honor and salute the families of our military personnel. These families make immense sacrifices for our nation, and we are deeply grateful.

Share a word of thanks for our Armed Forces and their families.

Village Academic Curriculum: Vanderbilt Veto

Recently, we reported how Tennessee's Vanderbilt University became the latest academic institution to wage war on religion when the school decided that religious groups had to consider non-religious students for leadership roles. Why a non-religious person would want to run a religious group is exceedingly suspicious; it certainly wouldn't be the first leftist policy enacted for the sole purpose of destroying a beloved institution in the name of "progress."

In response to Vanderbilt's decree, the state legislature passed a bill that would prevent schools receiving substantial taxpayer funding (more than $24 million per year) from enacting such policies. Unfortunately, Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Haslam vetoed it in the name of "limited government," but many see this as merely the coward's way out. His statement that he personally disagrees with Vanderbilt's policy only makes it look like he's straddling a political fence, when his feet should be clearly planted on the side of religious freedom. (Gov. Haslam also signed a bill waiving Tennessee from No Child Left Behind Thursday, so he is on the right side on some things.)

Vanderbilt receives hundreds of millions in federal tax dollars each year -- $300 million in grants from the Department of Health and Human Services alone. Leaving that in tact is hardly an example of limited government. Some may argue that the gubernatorial veto prevents Obama-style government intrusion into a private university's policies, but the HHS regulations that Obama put into place are far broader; they apply to private employers who receive no government funds and violate religious liberty as well. In this case, pulling public funds to prevent a violation of First Amendment religious liberty is the limited-government option, not the other way around.

Climate Change This Week: Breaking Wind Killed the Dinosaurs?

Those of us who live in certain areas of the country realize that copious quantities of methane and additional natural by-products made by cows and other barnyard animals. Imagine how much a plant-eating 90-ton dinosaur would produce. That's a theory postulated by two British scientists, who argue that the era of the dinosaurs came to an end through climate change of the reptiles' own making -- the staggering amount of methane produced over those eons led to the global warming that eventually wiped out the dinosaurs. Silent-but-deadly, if you will. The pair claim that over 520 million tons of methane were produced annually, an amount that dwarfs the current creation from all sources whether natural or man-made.

However, other scientists feel the study is just so much bovine excrement; they theorize it was a lengthy cool period that killed off the dinosaurs. Moreover, the Earth has a track record of adapting to changing conditions, and one would think certain dinosaurs might have survived despite cooling climate change, which lends credence to the theory of sudden dinosaur demise. Regardless, the admission that something natural can change the climate -- without help from mankind -- is stunning when it comes from the world of modern, politically driven science.

Mother's Day

On Sunday, as we celebrate Mother's Day, we're reminded that among the 10 Commandments there is but one that comes with a promise: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12). President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation in 1914 proclaiming Mother's Day a national holiday. But then again, we don't need a holiday to express our appreciation to moms everywhere. May God bless each and every mother among our Patriot readers.

Post a word of thanks for mothers everywhere.

And Last...

Who is Keith Judd? He's federal prison inmate Number 11593-051 at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Beaumont, Texas, where he's serving a 210-month sentence for extortion. Earlier this week, however, he was also a Democrat presidential candidate in the West Virginia primary, and he managed 40 percent of the vote and won 10 counties against the sitting president. In fact, his share of the vote was so large that he's entitled to at least one delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte later this year. Democrats quickly attributed the result to racism, but it could have a lot more to do with Obama's anti-coal policies. In all fairness, though, Obama was at a serious disadvantage. What would you rather defend -- a felony conviction or Obama's record on the economy?

Expansion of Fannie Mae for Exporters

One-hundred and forty seven Republicans voted to extend the Export-Import Bank and raise its lending cap by 40% over the next three fiscal years.

It is easy to get discouraged, but there is a bright spot in the passage of this re-authorization of corporate welfare: thanks to your calls, 93 conservatives voted against the Bank, the largest percentage of opposition to the Bank in decades.

>> See why the Washington Establishment supports crony capitalism.

By taking action, you have jump-started a necessary conversation in Washington, one that requires a lot of soul searching for some self-described conservatives. With your help, we took the first step toward eliminating this wasteful spending boondoggle. In 2014, when the next re-authorization comes up for a vote, even more conservatives will be prepared to stand on principle and end the Bank.

>> Read more about why conservatives opposed the ExIm bank's crony capitalism.

Journalist Tim Carney summed it up like this:

So, in the wake of the 2008 bailouts and Obama's corporatism, the Republican rank and file are steadily moving against corporatism. But the GOP leadership still isn't ready to wage war on corporate welfare -- which leaves one less line of attack on Obama.

Thank you for standing up against crony capitalism and corporate welfare and defending free market principles.

First, Stop Taxmageddon. Second, Fix the Tax Code

by Nathaniel Ward

Congress must prevent the Jan. 1 Taxmageddon tax increases and only then address broader tax reforms, Heritage Foundation tax expert J.D. Foster writes.

Preventing Taxmageddon should be done before the November general election, he says, and requires making current tax rates permanent and repealing Obamacare.

Foster, Heritage's Norman B. Ture Senior Fellow in the Economics of Fiscal Policy, explains his rationale for stopping Taxmageddon before reforming the tax code.

Find out more about Taxmageddon and tell us in the comments: should Congress focus on stopping Taxmageddon?

A piece of wisdom from The Heritage Foundation's Ernest Istook-"that which does not destroy us only makes us stronger"-is a great reminder that hard work truly does pay off.

A distinguished fellow at Heritage and a retired seven-term Congressman from Oklahoma, Istook says his upbringing helped shape him.

As a young man, he worked 50 hour weeks even while taking a full course load in law school and starting a family at the same time. "It gave me a strong foundation of appreciating hard work, doing what it took to make it, and prioritizing the family."

Istook began his political career when he ran for the Oklahoma State Senate as a Democrat. He lost. "I swore off politics after that," Istook chuckles.

But the road was not over. After changing parties because he believed the Democrats were veering leftward and eschewing practical solutions, he served six years in the state legislature. The Democratic Party of the 1980s, he concluded, was not consistent with his beliefs, viewpoints and values. He then felt a calling to run for Congress, something he had not even been contemplating.

Earlier this week, American intelligence officials disrupted a sophisticated airplane bombing intended to mark the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death. This recent plot is the 51st publicly known thwarted terrorist attack since 9/11.

This planned attack serves as a reminder of the continued threat of al-Qaeda and other terrorist organization.

The Heritage Foundation's Steven Bucci and Jessica Zuckerman explain the need to maintain U.S. counter-terrorism efforts:

While al-Qaeda's terrorist networks have become increasingly dismantled and their leadership decimated, the terrorist network and its affiliates continue to seek to harm the United States. Protecting the nation requires not only robust international and domestic intelligence and counterterrorism to stop attempted terrorist plots early, but also a continued commitment to combating global terrorism and insurgency.

Evangelicals Will Rally for Romney

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski and ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published May 9, 2012 on Breitbart.com.

Elections are about choices, and 2012's pivotal election showcases two very different visions for America's future. Governor Mitt Romney is quickly consolidating the Republican base to enthusiastically support him this November. His speech this weekend at Liberty University illustrates these efforts, providing an opportunity to underscore Romney's embrace of American exceptionalism in both his public and private life.

Liberty University is the perfect venue for Governor Romney to make his case. With over 50,000 students, it's America's largest Evangelical school. Founded by Jerry Falwell, it's affiliated with the largest Evangelical denomination in America, the 16 million members of the Southern Baptist Convention. Liberty University wisely offered Romney a platform to speak to social conservatives.

Romney wisely accepted, showing both support for cultural issues and also his desire to have a large and diverse political movement behind him to unseat one of the most radical big government presidents in America's history. Some seek to make an issue of the fact that Romney is a Mormon--the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). But those attacks will deservedly fail in a choice between Romney and Obama.

Mitt Romney, Conservative Cultural Icon

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published May 9, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

Obamunistas are saying that Obama is cool, and Romney is not. But cool to whom? Cool is in the eye of the beholder.

I have to admit that if you are an aging hippie who never grew up, still think that the counterculture of the 1960s was the highwater mark of American civilization, reject America's capitalist economic system as inherently unfair and uncool in the grubby pursuit of profit, see America's historic world-leading prosperity as crass materialism causing global poverty, and regard America's world dominating superpower military as the tool of global imperialism, you would see Obama as very cool for bringing your values into the White House. Ditto that if you are a mental infant throwback stuck in the last century who thinks global socialism and Che T-shirts are cool.

But social and cultural conservatives would have just the opposite view. For them, Romney is the personal embodiment of their values. His personal life is right out of Ozzie and Harriett, Leave It to Beaver and Father Knows Best. The practical relevance of his Mormonism is that he is personally devoted to these values at his core. The offbeat theology of Mormonism is not at issue because he is not a Mormon theologian.

Leftist Race-Baiters

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published May 9, 2012 on Townhall.com.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews, in a recent debate with former Republican National Chairman Michael Steele, called the Republican Party the "grand wizard crowd." Grand wizard is the title given to the leader of the Ku Klux Klan. It is truly misinformed to call Republicans the party of the Klan. Throughout our history, most Klansmen and most racists have been Democrats. Here are a few racist quotes from major Democratic figures.

The late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., a former Klansman, wrote during World War II: "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

When Lyndon B. Johnson was in the House of Representatives, he said that President Harry Truman's civil rights program was "a farce and a sham -- an effort to set up a police state in the guise of liberty." He continued: "I am opposed to that program. I have voted against the so-called poll tax repeal bill. ... I have voted against the so-called anti-lynching bill." When Johnson had become senator, he observed, "These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days, and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness."

Romney's Practical Vision vs. Obama's Left-Wing Extremism

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published May 3, 2012 on Forbes.com.

In his weekly radio address on April 14, President Obama displayed his lifelong commitment to an ideological extremism of pure theory unhinged from reality. That failure of leadership is why America is in a scary downward slide that will not stop until fundamental change is made at the top.

The weekly radio address was on Obama's so-called Buffett Rule, which would double the top tax rates on investment income such as capital gains and dividends. The most revealing statement was this: "Now, this is not just about fairness. This is also about growth. It's about being able to make the investments we need to strengthen our economy and create jobs. And it's about whether we as a country are willing to pay for those investments."

So this is Obama's growth model. Double the top tax rates on investment income, to get the money to increase government spending (in case you haven't noticed, "investments" is the Orwellian term Obama uses to refer to government spending), which is what really drives economic growth in Obama's mind.

Saving the Planet, One Crucifixion at a Time

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published May 4, 2012 on The Washington Times website.

What do Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico have in common? They make up the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Region 6. They also constitute the core of America's energy production, especially oil.

Thus, they needed to be taught a lesson. Who better for that than Alfredo J. Armendariz, the former EPA Region 6 administrator, who served as an expert witness for environmental groups before joining the EPA in November 2009?

Mr. Armendariz is no longer with the EPA. He resigned on April 30 for committing the sin of clarity. He was a little too honest in conveying the Obama administration's way of doing business.

COMMENTARY:

Hollywood's Gay Marriage Thank You Card
By L. Brent Bozell III
Obviously, Hollywood has played a part in eroding America's moral character on "gay marriage." It's about time somebody admitted that in between the commercials, Hollywood is selling a radical devolution in moral standards.

The Antietam of the Culture War
By Patrick J. Buchanan
Obama needs one more Supreme Court justice. If elected, he will get it, and same-sex marriage will be forced on all of America. If Romney wins, the Supreme Court will likely leave the issue of same-sex marriage to be decided by the people and their elected representatives.

White House Lied, Jobs Died

This election isn't just about jobs, jobs, jobs. It's about the lies, lies, lies that have led to massive job destruction - and the ruthless corruptocrats using our tax dollars to whitewash their radical green agenda.

A Marriage of Inconvenience
By Rich Galen
On the same-sex marriage issue, Obama had to choose between blacks and liberals. He chose liberals, and that will come at a price.

Glenn BeckOn Today's Program    Wapo conveniently has shady Romney hit piece ready to go
What are the odds that the Washington Post would have a full scale hit piece accusing Mitt Romney (as a teenager) of bullying gay classmates, ready for press the very same day President Obama declares he's the Abe Lincoln for gays? Apparently pretty good because this pathetic piece ran yesterday. Glenn has the details on radio.

GBTV tonight:

  • 5pm - Glenn Beck Program: Where is the country headed? Chris Stewart, C.L. Bryant, Tim LaHaye and Bishop Keith Butler join Glenn to help answer this question, and discuss the shocking truths revealed in Wrath & Righteousness.
  • 6pm - Real News: "The gentle push of government" is what one Massachusetts lawmaker is calling two new health care bills that might be what's coming down the road for the rest of us - stay ahead of the game with Real News tonight!
  • On Demand: Do you know anyone like Barack Obama? Watch the monologue on Obama the MSM will never deliver.

WATCH: Glenn discusses his first big break, the power of radio, and some of the stories from the early days of his career.

Glenn painstakingly presents the Obama lie timeline...
On radio today Glenn played the audio of Obama contradicting himself on issue after issue. You've heard many of these stories before, but when you hear the audio back to back to back it's really quite stunning. We all know politicians generally lie or mislead on issues, but Obama's trail of lies is the stuff of legends. And many are about his own family experience. Watch this can't miss segment & share it.

Obama admits: yeah, I bullied a little girl
The press dutifully dug up a story (a mostly false story) that Mitt Romney used to bully gay kids when he was a teenager - but they failed, once again, to read Barack Obama's own memoir, Dreams from My Father. In it, he explicitly describes bullying a young girl and shoving her to the ground. Is this a composite of all the women he's beaten in his life? Get the full story.

Creepy or natural? Time Mag cover shows mom breastfeeding 3 year old son
Not sure how this topic is really newsworthy given everything going on in the world today, but Time magazine's cover features a mom breastfeeding her 3 year old son. He looks more like he's 8 because he's pretty tall  -- so which is it: creepy or natural? Glenn discusses on radio today.

Bill Clinton calls Obama an 'amateur', urged Hillary to run
In a new book, the author claims in recent conversations that Bill Clinton slammed the current President as a mere 'amateur' who's screwing everything up. He reportedly urged Hillary to run, 'the country needs you,' Clinton reportedly told his wife. Maybe he just wants to get her out of the house?
