With the 2012 elections before us, we've seen much speculation about whether the Tea Party will repeat the crucial role it played in the 2010 elections. Focusing on three principles-limited government, unapologetic U.S. sovereignty, and constitutional originalism-Elizabeth Price Foley's new book addresses that question, and more, head on. As George Will put it, "at last, someone conversant with the large issues now roiling contemporary American politics has taken the Tea Party seriously and concluded that it is intellectually substantial and politically constructive." Please join us for what will doubtless be a stimulating discussion, with comments from both a leading critic of the Tea Party and perhaps the nation's foremost political demographer.

U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade

Wed, Oct 14 2009

By Arshad Mohammed

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.

The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States would support the talks as long as the negotiating forum, the so-called Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, "operates under the rules of consensus decision-making."

"Consensus is needed to ensure the widest possible support for the Treaty and to avoid loopholes in the Treaty that can be exploited by those wishing to export arms irresponsibly," Clinton said in a written statement.

While praising the Obama administration's decision to overturn the Bush-era policy and to proceed with negotiations to regulate conventional arms sales, some groups criticized the U.S. insistence that decisions on the treaty be unanimous.

U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade     WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.     The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State  Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.      On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All  Firearms in the United States. The Obama administration intends to  force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens  through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By  signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nationsand individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.     The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of  gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment.     This is not a joke nor a false warning. As sure as government health  care will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means necessary,  so will gun control.     Please forward this message to others who may be concerned about the direction in which our country is headed.     We are being led like a lamb to the slaughter (Socialism/Dictatorship).

Disarm America and we are subject to invasion by illegals that are already here and the

Mexican drug cartels.  Do you think criminals will give up their guns? Just check the history

of the countries that have enacted these gun laws.  LOOK AT MEXICO.

DON'T KEEP THIS - SEND IT OUT TO YOUR LIST

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 181 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

BREAKING NEWS: Obama Caves to Gay Demands, Endorses "Marriage"

President Obama just told ABC News that he now supports same-sex marriage. Surprised? Didn't think so. Obama is no doubt hoping to energize his leftwing base. And he is betting this will help him to re-energize the youth vote this November. But in fact he may have just lost the presidency.

Attention Republican Party: Obama's announcement is a chance for boldness. There are many Republicans who would rather not talk about this issue. But if the GOP confronts Obama over marriage, it could make him a one-term president. If Republicans allow Obama to exploit this issue, then it could prove decisive for him. Republicans need to remember that if their candidates can manage to win as much of the vote as the state marriage amendments have received in 31 states, they will win in a landslide in November.

Voters Send Message To Obama

The Obama team did not look so cool and confident this morning as they poured over voting results. It was not a good night for the socialist left. But it was a good night for America and for our political action committee.

Take West Virginia, for example. In the Democrat presidential primary, Obama had only one opponent - Keith Judd, who is a prison inmate currently residing in the Beaumont Texas Federal Correctional Institution. Forty percent of Democrats in West Virginia chose the convict over the President! There is no doubt that West Virginia will be in our column in November. Both the Democrat Governor of the state and one of the Democrat Senators are getting as far away from him as they can. Obama's anti-energy policies are a non-starter in "coal country."

Now look at North Carolina. It is considered a swing state. Obama won it by only 14,000 votes in 2008 - and it is a high priority for the Dems this year, which is why they are holding their national convention in Charlotte and why he has visited the state repeatedly. This morning Obama might be second guessing that Charlotte venue.

Voters in North Carolina passed a marriage amendment yesterday, making clear that marriage is one man and one woman. Obama, Biden and the entire media establishment opposed the amendment. Bill Clinton did robo calls opposing the measure. The voters felt otherwise by a 61% to 39% vote - a huge landslide and a record turnout. Current polls have Romney beating Obama in North Carolina by only two points! Governor Romney should look at the results of the marriage issue. He can win North Carolina by a landslide if he takes on Obama on this issue.

By the way, 20% of Democrats in North Carolina's presidential primary voted "no preference" instead of voting for Obama.

In battleground state Wisconsin, where Obama and his machine are trying to "recall" conservative Governor Scott Walker, there was more good news. In the Republican primary yesterday Walker, with no real opposition, received over 625,000 votes. The Democrats had a very competitive primary to pick Walker's opponent, and the two Democrat competitors, after millions spent by the labor unions, didn't get as many votes as Walker! Bottom line - Wisconsin is narrowly divided, but it can be won in November!

And of course, in Indiana, GOP voters completely rejected Senator Richard Lugar, who had drifted away from conservatism in recent years. Instead voters chose solid conservative Richard Mourdock to run for the Senate seat.

The bottom line is clear. We can win. We should win. If we all do what is necessary, we will win. Democrat operative James Carville wrote today that the Obama team better wake up or they are going to lose. For once, he is right.

Tea Party Meeting

Pennsylvania Health Care Freedom

We all know that Obama-Care will make health care more expensive and less accessible and will ultimately place all control over an individual's health insurance and heath care in the hands of Washington bureaucrats.  As enacted, ObamaCare is dependent upon state exchanges for the distribution of federal subsidies. Once implemented, ObamaCare will be extremely difficult to repeal.

Unfortunately, Governor Tom Corbett has taken over $34 million in federal funds (i.e., your federal tax dollars) to set up an ObamaCare health insurance exchange in Pennsylvania. The exchange is a new bureaucracy that will soon require tens of millions of dollars annually in new surcharges, fees and/or taxes on Pennsylvania families and businesses.

We are very fortunate to have Katy Abram, policy analyst for Americans For Prosperity - Pennsylvania, speaking to us about the health care exchanges in PA and what we can do to stop them. You will not want to miss this important talk!

    Other Business

In addition to our special guest speaker, we will also discuss the results of the recent primary election.  Based on some of these results, we hope to formulate a strategy for victory in November.  Come be a part of that victory.

"If I wanted America to fail"

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

GUESS WHO IS PAYING FOR ALL OF THIS? Right, you the taxpayer!

Do you know what can happen when all of this is changed?

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

We are the Tea Party

On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!

I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!

69 Obama Lies

Dear Patriot,

About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies.

When we finished, we had created a 122-page, 20,000-word dossier that documents a disturbing cross-section of fibs, falsehoods, and fabrications that our President has used to win votes while implementing his radical agenda. Go here to see a larger image of the cover and the full list of 69 Obama Lies we have documented:

69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy.

They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core.

Let's be clear -- it was these  "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward.

But we don't stop there....

+ + Obama's "Big Government" Lies

69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy.

It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...

The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie...

The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie...

The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie...

The "Government Motors" Lie...

The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie...

The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...

+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies...

69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs.

We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed.

And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources.

You get the actual words of Obama set against the truth -- the LIE next to the reality check. Go here to request your copies and see the complete list of 69 Lies:

Will Congress Defend Our Military?

It's one thing to talk a good game about cutting spending, but it's quite another thing to actually do something about it. This week, the House of Representatives has an opportunity to finally set some limits on Washington's spending spree while also ensuring that the U.S. military has the resources it needs to defend America. Here's the lay of the land this week in the nation's capital.

On Thursday, the House is set to take up a spending reduction plan known inside the beltway as "reconciliation." Under the measure, Congress would tackle two looming problems hanging over Washington's head: the soaring cost of entitlement spending and the arbitrary defense cuts mandated by the so-called Budget Control Act (BCA) that was enacted last year.

Those issues are nothing to gloss over, even though some in Washington would like to pretend they're not a problem. Since 1965, spending on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security has more than tripled as a share of the economy, is continuing to grow at a rapid rate, hitting 9.7 percent of GDP this year, and will nearly double by 2050. Meanwhile, spending on defense has dropped over time, even when you add in the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As you can see in Heritage's Federal Budget in Pictures, that means that spending on entitlement programs is crowding out spending on defense -- a core constitutional function of government.

The U.S. military is about to get slashed and burned even further under automatic spending cuts known as "sequestration," which is mandated under last year's Budget Control Act. Under sequestration, future defense spending will be cut across the board by nearly $500 billion beginning next year. Add in the $487 billion in cuts already put forward by the President in February (as projected by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta), America's military will see its budget drop on average by $100 billion annually over the next decade.

Panetta warned that those cuts will be "devastating," leaving America with "[t]he smallest ground forces since 1940," "a fleet of fewer than 230 ships, the smallest level since 1915," and "[t]he smallest tactical fighter force in the history of the Air Force." General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, bluntly told Congress that the mandated reductions create "very high risk" to national security.

Some in Congress would like to rely on defense cuts in order to balance the budget while keeping spending on entitlement programs intact. But that just won't work. Even if defense spending were completely eliminated, entitlements would continue to drive deficits to unmanageable levels. That's why Congress must take action to get that spending under control.

Heritage's Patrick Louis Knudsen writes that though the budget reconciliation falls short in some areas -- namely, it suspends only one year of the sequestration, meaning Congress would have to address the issue again in 2013 -- he says it is a key part of implementing the budget passed by the House in March. The benefit, Knudsen explains, is that it is "the only fully developed plan for addressing the near-term problem of sequestration and the longer-term issue of runaway entitlement spending."

Under the reconciliation plan, national security capabilities would be protected and the sequestration's deep defense cuts would be reversed. As for entitlement spending, the plan introduces important reforms to the food stamp program, which has grown dramatically under President Obama, with spending shooting from $39 billion in 2008 to $80 billion in 2012. Knudsen explains that the reconciliation plan eliminates categorical eligibility -- the policy of granting cash welfare assistance regardless of one's income or assets. In addition, the plan finds savings by reforming the National Flood Insurance Program and ending the Obama Administration's ineffective housing bailout, the Housing Affordable Modification Program, among other measures.

Knudsen writes that "The longer Congress delays, the more likely are steep, sudden benefit cuts, sharply higher taxes, deeper deficits and debt -- or all of the above." Washington can't keep putting off its fundamental duty to enact a budget and get spending under control, and it shouldn't try to solve the nation's fiscal crisis by gutting America's national security.

Victory Center" on Facebook

-Gabriel Malor

Last week I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the RNC's new Facebook application. Designed, in the words of one RNC staffer to "take our message where the people are," the Social Victory Center app will, among other things, hook users up with campaign news targeted based on their location and preferences (which Facebook already knows, of course), let users join volunteer efforts, distribute voter registration forms, and provide an online phone bank, all without leaving the Facebook website. It will also, if users wish, put those activities on the user's Facebook wall, letting their friends see what they're up to and, hopefully, encouraging them to join in.

GOP Facebook

It's an attempt to leverage Facebook's popularity in a new way and, at the moment, the Democrats have nothing like it. The Social Victory Center was unveiled to the public yesterday, so if you're on Facebook, check it out. As the general election ramps up, check back for volunteer activities as they're added. Also, like I did in 2008, I'll be pushing online phone banking in the final weeks of the election, only this time the RNC will have done the heavy-lifting that the McCain team wasn't too keen on.

1. The Media and Barack Obama's Pauline Kael Moment on Gay Marriage

If you listen to Barack Obama's statement to ABC News yesterday you'll hear something not reflected in all the transcripts that went out yesterday. He said his administration gave up the legal fight to defend the Defense Against Marriage Act. It's actually the Defense Of Marriage Act.

Obama claimed DOMA made marriage a federal issue and it should be a state issue. That's a gross mischaracterization of DOMA, but for now that's besides the point. Two days after major gay donors said they'd withhold funding from his campaign and one day before his swank $40,000.00 a person fundraiser with George Clooney, Barack Obama publicly reversed course on gay marriage. The Washington Free Beacon's headline says it all: Gay For Pay.

Obama looks weak and under duress. He looks weak because he would not come out before the North Carolina vote and under duress because he only did so now as his donors held his campaign hostage. Now President Obama might as well be called President Dick Cheney. In addition to GTMO still in use and warrantless wiretaps still being deployed, Obama comes out in favor of the states' individually deciding the issue while supporting it himself. It's the gay marriage equivalent of being personally pro-life, but supporting a person's right to choose. It is also, like GTMO and warrentless wiretaps, Dick Cheney's position - a position the much maligned former Vice President held even after Obama went from being for gay marriage, to against gay marriage, to evolving on gay marriage.

But there is another angle to this as well.

Barack Obama and the Washington Press Corps, aligned perfectly on this issue, are oblivious to one overwhelming data point.

2. Infographic: The Obama Economy

The Romney campaign has released a good new infographic detailing the truth about Obama's promised "green economy" job gains. (Click on the graphic to view full size.)

3. Obama: Troops Are Fighting On My Behalf

When Barack Obama made his unsurprising announcement that he has finally evolved far enough to endorse homosexual marriage, ironically an evolutionary dead end, he made two other interesting statements.

First, he attributes his evolution to his Christian faith. This is sort of odd, speaking as a Trinitarian Christian, because it puts Christ in the position of disavowing himself. This is not surprising. Anyone who learned Christian theology from Jeremiah Wright is bound to have imbibed a substantial number of heresies.

The most surprising statement was this:

[W]hen I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf...

Bibi the Survivor

Thirteen years after he was sent packing by Bill Clinton's political consultants and a phony third party, Bibi Netanyahu has become a political survivor. The awkward politician constantly under siege by the media and at the mercy of domestic political squabbling, has become a veteran of Israel's turbulent politics.

Netanyahu owes most of his success to a dysfunctional political climate. in which there is no one left to replace him. The old generation of leaders is gone and even a notoriously fickle Israeli electorate would not trust most of his rivals to make them dinner, let alone run a country. Displaced by Sharon, he learned the game of coalitions from him and has ably exploited the rivalries and petty careerism of the Knesset lineup to stay in office. With Barak by his side and Peres shaking hands with foreign dignitaries, the transformation is almost complete.

Netanyahu's electability allows him to exploit the less electable, flipping through ministers and coalition partners like a game of cards. A deeply divided and thoroughly corrupt Knesset has no shortage of partners willing to dance with him for a ministry and the perks of power. With no one positioned to take down Netanyahu, his is the only game in town and everyone knows it.

Before Sharon, two conservative Israeli Prime Ministers were forced out by American pressure over the peace process. One of those men was Netanyahu. Since Begin met Carter, there has never been a relationship as bad as the one between Netanyahu and Obama. If Clinton wanted Netanyahu gone, Obama wants him gone on a rail. And that makes Netanyahu's position dangerously precarious because in any election or coalition deal, Washington D.C. is the shadow player.

But Livni's appeals to Obama suggesting that she would make all the deals that Netanyahu would not, did not help. Instead she was shouldered aside by Shaul Mofaz who has brought Kadima, with its sizable Knesset presence, into the coalition with Netanyahu. There is little doubt that Mofaz, like anyone who jumped ship for the trumped up Kadima Party, would sell out the country and his own mother at a signal from Obama.

This brand of insanity makes Israeli politics a high-wire act where there is no stability and no future, and Bibi has learned to walk the tightrope. Whether he has learned to enjoy it is another story.

This week, Vladimir Putin was sworn in for a third term as Russian president. Putin's return to the presidency was not unexpected; he was never really unseated as Russia's leader, even during Dmitri Medvedev's presidency. In response to these changes, Putin will have to adjust Russia's approach in Europe.

The Left's National Vote Fraud Strategy Exposed   May 09, 2012 07:00 am

This report reveals the Left's vote fraud strategy for the 2012 elections. Like a KGB operation, it is thorough, multi-faceted and redundant. It has overt and covert, illegal and legal elements, the latter of which are designed, at least in part, to facilitate illegal activities later. It is a deliberate, premeditated, comprehensive plan to win the 2012 presidential election at all costs, and is in keeping with the organizational methods, associations and ethics of the Community-Organizer-in-Chief, Barack Obama.

Democrat destroyed Blue States have suffered for backing Obama

May 09, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins The states that voted to put Barack Obama in office are suffering for supporting him. A recently releast Investor's Business Daily report provides some telling data derived from comparing economic conditions in the so-called Blue States (those who voted for Obama) with those in the Red States that voted for John McCain.Income growth in Blue States trails per capita income growth in Red States by about .07%. Job growth which has been slow nationwide has Blue States lagging by .08%. Home prices in Red States actually climbed slightly by .03% butBlueStatehome prices dropped about 3.8%. The latest unemployment rate for Blue Staters at approximately 8.5%, a was full 1.1%  higher than it is in Red States.   The schadenfreude we who did not vote for Barack Obama can enjoy doesn't stop with these measurements. Even though the price of gasoline at the pump has fallen "all the way" down to about $3.75 a gallon, the prices ... Continue Reading:Democrat destroyed Blue States have suffered for backing Obama

American Minute May 8

By Bill Federer, staff writer

  The 33rd U.S. President was born MAY 8, 1884.
He was captain of a field artillery battery in France during World War I, a county judge, a U.S. Senator, and Vice-President under Franklin Roosevelt.
He ended World War II by dropping the atomic bomb.
His name was Harry S Truman.
To the Federal Council of Churches, March 6, 1946, President Truman said:
"We have just come though a decade in which the forces of evil in various parts of the world have been lined up in a bitter fight to banish from the face of the earth both of these ideals - religion and democracy...
The right of every human being...to worship God in his own way, the right to fix his own relationship to his fellow men and to his Creator - these again have been saved for mankind."
Truman continued:
"Let us determine to ... Continue Reading:American Minute May 8

Will the "October Surprise" be a war with Iran?

May 08, 2012 02:00 pm | Coach Collins

By Doug Book,  staff writer

In early March, the Israeli newspaper Maariv reported Barack Obama had offered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government the latest in "bunker busting bombs" along with advanced refueling planes in exchange for the PM's promise to delay any attack against Iranian nuclear facilities until 2013. It was a clear attempt by Obama to bribe the nation of Israel into refraining from war until AFTER the November election.  (1)

Naturally, Regime spokesmen denied a story so uncomfortable for Obama, especially in light of his already dwindling support among even the most dependably liberal of voting groups-American Jews. And the New York Post came to Obama's indirect defense using the words of Netanyahu himself as the PM said war with Iran was not necessarily unavoidable. "The only way to deter Iran [is] to advocate carrying out a serious military strike..." wrote the Post of Netanyahu's stated belief that Iran would back down if ... Elizabeth Warren dances with lies

Ann Coulter

Elizabeth Warren, who also goes by her Indian name, "Lies on Race Box," is in big heap-um trouble. The earnest, reform-minded liberal running for the Senate against Scott Brown, R-Mass., lied about being part-Cherokee to get a job at Harvard.

Harvard took full advantage of Warren's lie, bragging to the Harvard Crimson about her minority status during one of the near-constant student protests over insufficient "diversity" in the faculty. Warren also listed herself as an Indian in law school faculty directories and, just last month, said, "I am very proud of my Native American heritage."

Except, oops, she has no more evidence that she's an Indian than that buffoon out of Colorado, Ward Churchill.

The Boston Globe immediately leapt to Warren's defense, quoting a genealogist who found a marriage license on which Warren's great-great-uncle scribbled that his mother, Warren's great-great-great grandmother, was a Cherokee. This is not part of the official marriage license. (If I scribble "Kenyan" on Obama's birth certificate, does that make it true?)

Bureaucrats on Board: Mandating Electronic Recorders for Truckers

America's truckers are known for their independence, often driving alone in their rigs from one end of the country to the other. Now Congress wants to give them company in the form of an electronic "big brother."

Under a provision buried in the 600-page transportation bill recently passed by the Senate, truckers large and small would be required to buy and maintain "electronic on-board recorders" (EOBRs) that would document their travel time and distance. The annual cost to truckers and trucking firms: $2 billion.

Heritage Employment Report: Jobs Do Not Bloom in April

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the economy added 115,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate declined to 8.1 percent from 8.2 percent. However, further declines in the percentage of Americans in the labor force explain this slightly lower unemployment rate. Indeed, the labor force participation rate dipped to a 30-year low as many unemployed workers simply left the labor force. However, the April report is further evidence that the job market has cooled from its more rapid growth in the first quarter. This slowdown will likely spur calls for more stimulus spending.

Obama "evolves" to new fake position on gay marriage

Posted: 09 May 2012 03:04 PM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

President Obama today said that he now supports gay marriage. Obama, of course, has favored it all along and said he did back in 1996. I agree with Allahpundit that the timing of Obama's statement was driven by the increasing embarrassment of pretending not to be a supporter - his brand was being damaged by his hedging - and the perceived need to motivate his base.

Obama is still hedging, though. He stressed that his view on gay marriage is a personal position, and that he still supports the concept of states deciding the issue on their own. Sure, we all know what a state's rights champion Obama is.

Is Obama better positioned for the election as a result of having abandoned one fake position on gay marriage for another? Maybe. But he's going to have to explain why his "evolution" on gay marriage is different from Mitt Romney's several evolutions.

UPDATE: Obama also said this:

You know when I go to college campuses, sometimes I talk to college Republicans who think that I have terrible policies on the economy, on foreign policy, but are very clear that when it comes to same-sex equality or, you know, sexual orientation, that they believe in equality. They are much more comfortable with it.

It will be interesting to see whether Obama's claim that as president he has talked to college Republicans who tell him they favor gay marriage will hold up to fact checking.

Another Installment of Prog Rock

Posted: 09 May 2012 09:05 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

So my previous installments about Prog Rock here were really just placeholders until Brad Birzer, the maestro, so to speak, delivered the definitive treatment of the subject for National Review Online, which posted up at 4 am this morning (a good Prog Rock hour of the day, if you ask me).

Lot's of good stuff in this piece, but here's a few highlights for the time-challenged reader (for whom the long symphony-like standards are too long anyway):

The fact is, progressive rock is nearly indefinable. Even those credited with making progressive rock reject the title as often as not. Prog fans, too, obsess over what group or album or (less likely) song is or is not progressive. Once there's some semblance of an agreement as to prog quality, the fans then obsess over what type of progressive rock the group or album in question is: symphonic; proto-; crossover; metal; post-; folk; math; space; fusion; Kraut; Canterbury. . .

[W]hile in its specifics prog is fully open to music from all times and all places, the world over, progressive rock generally is very European in its structure and in the atmosphere it creates. Because progressive rock has always tended to sidestep or ignore blues-based rock, mainstream periodicals such as Rolling Stone and journals of opinion such as the New York Times have assumed progressive rock is a betrayal of progressive culture rather than an embracing or enhancing of it. After a very short flirtation with prog, music critics rejected the genre as pretentious and over-the-top. . .

Perhaps the most important aspect of progressive rock is found in this fourth point. Progressive rock does not aim to move the heart or the passions in the way most rock music does. Instead, it aims to harmonize soul and mind and connect the horizontal to the vertical, the sea to the sky. It invites the listener in as a participant, immersing him fully into the art rather than placing the art (if most pop music can be called art) next to or near the listener.

As such, progressive rock is to rock music what Imagism (e.g., T. E. Hulme and T. S. Eliot) is to poetry. It takes a modern form, and it fills and animates it with a well-ordered soul, an essence commensurate with its form.

But again, prog rock is not easily defined. A fifth and final point about its definition is this: Progressive-rock concepts rarely can be explained in the span of a two- or three-minute song. Genesis took 94 minutes to tell the story of Rael in The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway; Rush took 21 minutes to tell the story of failure to resist tyranny in "2112"; Jethro Tull needed 44 minutes for the story of Gerald Bostock in Thick as a Brick; Marillion took 71 minutes to reveal a suicide in Brave; and Big Big Train took 58 minutes for a man to die and examine his life in The Difference Machine.

Read the whole thing, as they say; there's lots more here.  And fire away, readers.  (And I still say Brad badly needs to catch up to Gentle Giant.)

Richard Lugar's unavoidable defeat

Posted: 09 May 2012 07:12 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

The post mortems are pouring in following the defeat of Sen. Richard Lugar in the Indiana primary last night. The ones I've seen contain plenty of nonsense.

The Washington Post, for example, quotes "Republican insiders" as attributing the result to Lugar's "nice guy" approach and lack of warrior instincts, rather than to the strength of the Tea Party in Indiana. John McCain, who was easily re-elected in 2010 and who supported Lugar this year, says that the moral of the story is "don't play defense, play offense." Others say Lugar was too complacent early on about the strength of the challenge he faced in the current environment.

There is no doubt that McCain profited from being proactive. The same is true of Orrin Hatch, who will probably survive a challenge in Utah this year. However, it is quite unlikely that Lugar could have prevailed over challenger Richard Mourdock no matter how early on he had perceived the magnitude of that task and no matter how much "offense" he had played.

Hatch and McCain are more conservative than Lugar. Hatch's lifetime ACU rating is 89 percent; McCain's was 82 percent when he ran for re-election. Lugar's is 77 percent.

At least as importantly, Hatch and McCain have provided conspicuous leadership on issues near and dear to conservatives. For decades, Hatch has led the fight for conservative judicial nominees - from Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas to Samuel Alito, and dozens of lower court nominations. McCain has been a leader in the struggle to control federal spending and to keep our military strong. And he has been a thorn in President Obama's side since Inauguration Day.

Lugar's leadership is in the realm of foreign policy, where he worked closely with Democrats to advance the dictates of the conventional Washington, D.C. wisdom. Joe Biden said yesterday that on matters of foreign policy, he and Lugar "seldom disagreed." One hopes that this is typical Biden BS - Clueless Joe has almost never been right on major foreign policy issues. But Biden's remark is telling nonetheless. No one can point to a policy sphere as broad as foreign policy and say that Hatch or McCain generally agrees with liberal Democrats.

In sum, the main reasons for Lugar defeat are substantive. Lugar could have campaigned non-stop throughout 2011 and 2012; it would not have made a significant difference. What could he have said at any point that would have won over Indiana's conservative Republican electorate? Nothing comes to mind.

Indeed, the harder Lugar tried, the worse things became for him. In the final days of the campaign, he slipped from 5 points behind in the polls, to 10 points behind, to 20 points behind when the votes were counted.

The Eternal Return of Political Correctness

(Steven Hayward)

By now the Chronicle of Higher Education's craven capitulation in re: the matter of Naomi Schaffer Riley's criticism of black studies is widely known, and needs little additional commentary here.  But since the subject of identity scholarship is briefly in the news again-where the mongers of identity politics don't want it to be, except when they do-we might as well include some excerpts from one notable entry in the field:

My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my "Blackness" than ever before.  I have found that at Princeton no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my White professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong.  Regardless of the circumstances underwhich [sic] I interact with Whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be Black first and a student second.

These experiences have made it apparent to me that the path I have chosen to follow by attending Princeton will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a White cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant.  This realization has presently, made my goals to actively utilize my resources to benefit the Black community more desirable.

This is from the 1985 senior thesis of Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, aka, Michelle Obama.

"But the mild voice of reason, pleading the cause of an enlarged and permanent interest, is but too often drowned, before public bodies as well as individuals, by the clamors of an impatient avidity for immediate and immoderate gain." --James Madison

Editorial Exegesis

French election: Hollande defeats Sarkozy

"François Hollande has become the newly elected president of France more by luck than by any quality he might possess. Almost anonymous, he has no ministerial experience. His platform nonetheless raised expectations mightily that he would be able to find employment and entitlements where Nicolas Sarkozy had failed to do so. Voters could conclude that there are jobs for all and everyone richer than them will pay more taxes. He likes to promise that France is not doomed to austerity, because he still believes that socialism is the magic formula for growth, and can simply be ordered up. When originally elected, Sarkozy proposed what he called rupture, meaning reform of the centralized powers of the state so traditional in France. Nothing of the kind then took place. In the campaign for reelection, this habitually competitive and ambitious man found himself unable convincingly to claim credit for achievements. ... Poor and insincere as Sarkozy's campaign was, in reality the Euro-crisis left him without a chance. No present head of government can hope to win an election in a Europe irrevocably tied to the single currency and the political structure erected in Brussels to enforce it. In the gathering climate of economic and political disaster, Sarkozy is the eleventh in a succession of office-holders in one nation after another to go down in electoral defeat. Germany sets the terms for Europe, and François Hollande now has to discover whether Chancellor Angela Merkel, the architect of austerity, is willing to permit a forlorn attempt at socialist-induced growth. She had let it be known that she wanted the like-minded Sarkozy to win. But then she herself has already lost regional elections, and until and unless something changes with Brussels and the euro, she too is likely to join the lengthening list of rejected European office-holders." --National Review

What is the solution to the EU crisis?

Upright

"Higher taxes now, spending cuts later. That was the 'balanced approach' President Obama and the Democrats tried to force Republicans to accept last August. ... The exact same story has been playing out in Europe. ... Problem is, Europe has not been cutting spending. Mercatus Center Senior Fellow Veronique de Rugy has crunched the numbers and found that among some of Europe's worst economies (Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Greece, and Italy) government spending cuts have either been tiny or non-existent. ... France and the United Kingdom have yet to cut spending at all. ... Obama's plan for the United States is identical to the new Socialist government's plan for France: higher spending and taxes now, spending cuts later." --Washington Examiner's Conn Carroll

"Europe is tremendously wealthy and productive, but Europeans sabotaged themselves by embracing the foolish idea that they could have an economic union without a political union. They are also paying the price for failing to come to terms with actuarial realities; their populations are graying. Without reforms of pension and other benefits, they cannot sustain their standard of living. Rather than face their own corruption, the Greeks principally, but also other Europeans, are disintegrating into raging extremists blaming anyone and everyone else. That's the object lesson for us. Here, Barack Obama and the Democratic Party are promising Americans more of this fool's gold -- limitless government benefits with costs imposed on someone else ('the rich' or future generations). It's an engraved invitation to Athens." --columnist Mona Charen

"What is the history of the 'raise taxes and reduce spending' compromise that is so popular in elite circles today? It is this: We get the tax increases but not the spending cuts. After having already enacted major tax cuts in 1982, Ronald Reagan agreed to raise business and excise taxes in exchange for spending reductions. Taxes went up, but so did spending by $450 billion. President George H.W. Bush cut a similar deal with Democrats. Again, we got the taxes but the spending cuts never materialized. There is simply no proven way to guarantee that the spending-cuts part of the compromise will be implemented. Is it any wonder that Republicans are taking a hard line of this?" --former senator Fred Thompson

"Conservatives should refuse to cede the compassion argument to the left. There is more to caring than pumping an ever-increasing share of taxpayer dollars into programs that do virtually nothing to lift people out of poverty. And there is certainly nothing compassionate about standing idly on the sidelines while these programs bankrupt the federal government." --blogger Morgen Richmond

Insight

"Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom." --theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

"Never blame a legislative body for not doing something. When they do nothing, they don't hurt anybody. When they do something is when they become dangerous." --American humorist Will Rogers (1879-1935)

Essential Liberty

"Free enterprise isn't an economic alternative. It's a moral imperative. It's the means by which we can achieve our God-given right to what our Founders called 'the pursuit of happiness.' Only free enterprise allows us to find our own happiness by leading the lives we wish to live. Only free enterprise serves the goal of true, merit-based fairness. Only free enterprise really allows us to help the poor in massive numbers. We have to reclaim the moral high ground from the statists, and explain why free enterprise is the only truly fair, moral, and virtuous economic system. We are right for material reasons, and more importantly, we are right for moral reasons. We have to make that case first." --Arthur C. Brooks, President of the American Enterprise Institute

The Demo-gogues

If only this were true: "We believe the free market is one of the greatest forces for progress in human history; that businesses are the engine of growth; that risk-takers and innovators should be rewarded." --Barack Obama

Don't let go of failure: "We have come too far to abandon the change we fought for these past few years. We have to move forward, to the future we imagined in 2008, where everyone gets a fair shot, and everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. ... We measure prosperity not just by our total GDP; not just by how many billionaires we produce, but how well the typical family is doing -- whether they can go as far as their dreams and hard work will take them. ... So if you're willing to stick with me, if you're willing to fight with me, and press on with me; if you're willing to work even harder in this election than you did in the last election, I guarantee you -- we will move this country forward." --Barack Obama

Spending = compassion: "When you're talking about cutting meals on wheels, when you're talking about cutting food stamps which actually is money that goes directly to small businesses markets in communities versus giving tax subsidies to farming corporations, these are the type of cuts that the Republicans are talking about." --Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA)

How should conservatives frame the argument over compassion?

Deliberate or gaffe? "Look, I am vice president of the United States of America. The president sets the policy. I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women and heterosexual men marrying women are entitled to the same exact rights -- all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly I don't see much of a distinction beyond that." --Joe Biden

Dezinformatsia

Non Compos Mentis: "Now we know that Mitt Romney loves to paint the president as a European-style socialist, which is incredible. ... [Romney] supports Paul Ryan's budget. He wants to go cut, cut, cut. It's not [the] president -- it's him! He's the European socialist!" --MSNBC's Martin Bashir

Media campaign: "President Obama has done more for gay and lesbian Americans than any president in history. ... Yet he faces endless criticism from LGBT activists for not embracing the word marriage publicly. ... What's troubling about the criticism he has endured is that it indicates that President Obama is being held to a different, tougher standard than other leaders. ... Lesson number one, can start with asking themselves the question: Are you holding the president to a tougher standard because deep down inside you don't really trust him? And if the answer to that question is yes, perhaps the next question you should ask yourself is why?" --MSNBC contributor Keli Goff

Non sequitur: "[A]s a true conservative, what could be more conservative than a committed relationship between a man and a man or a woman and a woman who want to embrace the sanctity of marriage? I simply do not understand the position by true conservatives who say that they don't believe in committed relationships." --NBC's Andrea Mitchell

Misinformation: "[Friday's] jobs report was a mixed bag of course. 115,000 jobs were added to payrolls in April. The unemployment rate did drop to 8.1 percent, the lowest rate since President Obama took office." --MSNBC's Chris Matthews ("As the ... Bureau of Labor Statistics clearly shows, the unemployment rate was 7.3 percent when Obama was sworn in." --Newsbusters' Noel Sheppard)

Blame game: "We now have history's first draft of the story of this Congress. There is so much political fog right now that it is hard to get a clear view of the reason for the dysfunction on Capitol Hill. But three new books take a step back to get a clear look at the fray, and all three conclude that no-holds-barred, right-wing politics is to be blamed." --Fox News' Juan Williams

Village Idiots

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.: "I certainly think President Obama has sent a very clear message of respect and appreciation of all religions, and in particular of Islam." --Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Warmism: "In the 21st Century, the reality is that there are environmental threats which constitute threats to our national security. For example, the area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security: rising sea levels, to severe droughts, to the melting of the polar caps, to more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief." --Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta

Remedial economics needed: "If 'business as usual' conditions continue, economic contractions the size of the Great Recession or even bigger will be needed to reduce atmospheric levels of CO2. ... One solution that has promise is a carbon tax levied on any activity producing CO2 in order to create incentives to reduce emissions. The money would be returned to the population on a per capita basis so the tax would not mean any extra fiscal burden." --researcher Jose Tapia Granados calling for another economic slowdown to combat global warming

Breaking wind for climate change: "[O]ur calculations suggest these dinosaurs may have produced more methane than all the modern sources, natural and human, put together." --co-researcher David Wilkinson on his latest breakthrough study with St. Andrews University professor Graeme Ruxton that dinosaurs created their own fatal climate change

Hollywood endorsements: "I think [Obama's] done a good job. He's done other things that maybe he should have been a little stronger about, people will complain. But it's not easy to be president of the United States. ... And I think he's doing -- I give him credit, and I hope he does -- I know he'll do better in the next four years, when he won't have to worry whether he's going to be elected or not." --actor Robert De Niro

Short Cuts

"[S]elf-absorption is part of the occupational hazard of politics, and it's also part of the job description of being president. All that said, try to imagine Dwight Eisenhower talking about D-Day saying, 'I did this. I decided this. I did this and then I did that.' It's inconceivable. That comparison between Obama and Eisenhower illustrated the problem for the president. If you struck from Barack Obama's vocabulary the first-person singular pronoun, he would fall silent, which would be a mercy to us and a service to him, actually." --political analyst George Will

"Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said, 'climate change has a dramatic impact on national security.' When you slash the military's budget to pay for failed solar companies -- yeah, it does." --Fred Thompson

"President Obama admitted that a former girlfriend that he wrote about in his autobiography was made up and not a real person. So Obama had an imaginary girlfriend. Big deal! He had an imaginary economic plan. It's all the same." --comedian Jay Leno

"The Obama campaign created a fictitious woman named 'Julia' to illustrate government services it will offer women throughout their lives. For instance, if Julia starts a worthless solar company, she'll still get billions of taxpayer dollars." --NewsBusted's Jodi Miller

Ask your U.S. Rep. to Support Local Immigration Enforcement

This new phone call request has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.

You can find this phone call request by proceeding to
http://www.numbersusa.com/phones?ID= 13981

This week, the House of Representatives is considering H.R. 5326, the Commerce, Justice, and Science (CSJ) Appropriations Act for FY2013.  During this process, amendments to this bill will be considered and one of these amendments will be amendment number #59, filed by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC).  The amendment "defunds the lawsuit that DOJ is waging against SC and refuses to allow the Obama Administration to politicize an issue instead of seeking to govern responsibly."

Please call your U.S. Representative and urge him/her to support the Duncan amendment, number 59, to the Commerce and Justice Appropriations Act when it is voted on.  This amendment is important because it would prevent the Justice Department from continuing its lawsuit against South Carolina's immigration enforcement law.

Today's Indiana election guarantees one major immigration improvement in 2013 U.S. Senate

ACTION 1 -- Join the conversation about this at: https://www.numbersusa.com/content/nusablog/beckr/may-8-2012/defeated-sen-lugar-worst-immigration-republican-senate-both-gop-dem-indian

Defeated Sen. Lugar nearly always preferred more immigrant workers over helping unemployed Americans

Voters in Indiana today provided another one of those historic shifts in the immigration battles that I have to share with all of you.

Sen. Lugar is one of the last hold-overs of the Republican Senators who not only tried to push through all the Bush amnesties at the beginning of this century but also back in the 1990s helped kill the immigration enforcement and green card reductions recommended by the bi-partisan Barbara Jordan Commission.

No matter which Party wins in November, the Indiana Senate seat now held by Richard Lugar should produce far better immigration actions in the future.

  • Democrat primary winner Joe Donnelly has a B+ Career immigration grade in the U.S. House.
  • And the GOP primary victor, Richard Mourdock, filled out the NumbersUSA survey to earn the title of TRUE REFORMER, supporting all 12 of our immigration stances.
  • In addition, the Libertarian primary victor, Andrew Horning, filled out our survey and looks almost as good as Donnelly on immigration.

Finally, the workers of Indiana -- and the country -- will have a U.S. Senator from Indiana who cares about their interests when it comes to immigration.

NumbersUSA has been sending out tens of thousands of emails to Indiana voters offering comparisons of all the Senate candidates on immigration.

LUGAR IMMIGRATION RECORD PRIME EXAMPLE OF OUT-OF-TOUCH LABEL THAT SANK HIM

Like many Senators who serve for many terms, Sen. Lugar was vulnerable to charges that he no longer had a good feel for the needs of his state's voters. The fact that his greatest reputation is in foreign policy didn't help.

His immigration actions accentuated both those identities because he used immigration as a kind of bargaining chit in his foreign policy gamemanship. The effect on U.S. workers didn't seem to ever come into play.

Indiana Secretary of State Mourdock challenged Lugar in part because of his constant leadership in pushing for amnesties for illegal aliens who have illegally stolen U.S. jobs.

At the time, I issued this statement:

"Sen. Lugar has always seemed to me to be a serious statesman, but that quality has always been missing in his blind eye to the suffering that his immigration policies cause the most vulnerable Americans, as well as the deterioration to the quality of life of ordinary citizens."

Sen. Lugar never met an amnesty he didn't like, voting for amnesties 15 times.

HOW MUCH DID LUGAR HURT UNEMPLOYED AMERICANS? LET ME COUNT THE WAYS

We rated Sen. Lugar on 85 immigration actions since 1989.

When each action was weighted according to the numerical impact, we found that he acted 81% of the time in favor of foreign workers and dependents over the interests of U.S. workers and dependents.

That earned him a D-minus over his career, making him the worst Republican in the Senate (Sen. John McCain of Arizona is runner-up).

  • He acted 84% of the time in favor of the Chain Migration of extended family of immigrants over the interests of U.S. workers.
  • He acted 100% of the time in favor of foreign workers brought in through a random lottery.
  • He acted 98% of the time for amnesty enticements and 76% of the time for other rewards for illegal aliens.
  • And in 30 votes and co-sponsorships that were about direct importation of workers, he acted more than 99% of the time for more immigrant competition for U.S. workers.

He did give tepid support to secure borders (C+) and interior enforcement (C) but tried to kill a pilot E-Verify program to keep illegal aliens from getting jobs back in 1996.

ACTION 2 -- Check out the immigration comparisons of candidates running for Congress in your District and in your state. If information is missing, follow the instructions to contact the campaigns to press for positions that can be added to our Comparison Pages:

https://www.numbersusa.com/content/elections/races/congressional

It is so important that voters know where each candidate stands on immigration issues before heading into the polling booth.
