Dr Mengele call your office: the EPA has an opening in its Human Experiments Section

Apr 27, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

This is a very serious and outrageous story. It brings on alternating waves of anger and embarrassment. The Environmental Protection Agency has used human beings our fellow Americans, as experimental lab rats! Yes they have purposely exposed people, our neighbors to high levels of airborne "particulate matter - soot and dust known as PM2.5.

If it were not for the diligent work of JunkScience.com we won't have heard about this. Using a Freedom of Information Act application JS.com has discovered what the EPA has done and let us all know about it. Naturally the Democrat cheerleaders in the media covered this up.

The revelation about these Dr. Menegele type experiments conducted under the supervision of EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson, are chilling. In order to build a portfolio of evidence against coal fired energy plants that Obama can cite to shut them down, the EPA had 41 people breathe in dangerous soot ... American Minute April 26

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Thomas Jefferson wrote in his Autobiography, 1821:
"The first settlers of Virginia were Englishmen, loyal subjects to their king and church, and the grant to Sir Walter Raleigh contained an express proviso that their laws 'should not be against the true Christian faith, now professed in the Church of England.'"
On APRIL 26, 1607, English settlers landed at the site of Cape Henry, named for Prince Henry of Wales.
Their first act was to erect a wooden cross and commence a prayer meeting.
They ascended the James River, named for King James, and settled Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America.
Virginia, so named for the "Virgin Queen" Elizabeth, stated in its 1st Charter, April 10, 1606:
"Greatly commending...their Desires for the Furtherance of so noble a Work, which may, by the Providence of Almighty God, hereafter tend to the Glory of His Divine Majesty, in propagating ... Continue Reading:American Minute April 26

Today's new Secret Service El Salvador strip club revelations show why Obama picked Napolitano

Apr 26, 2012 11:18 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

It was easy to see this coming. When the news about Secret Service agents hooking up with prostitutes in Colombia first broke we were told there were 11 men (some reports had it at 12) being investigated. Immediately we heard six were kicked out leaving; five "still under investigation."  In this case "under investigation" meant being squeezed to see if they would break and roll on their partners. Three decided to clam up and take whatever was coming instead of turning on their teammates. That left two.

Any good cop knows why those two weren't immediately fired. They handed up other agents from other operations. The investigators already had the other Colombia Lotharios so they demanded new names as part of the deal.

Now it looks like they got some new names.

"Now let's talk about El Salvador"

A television reporter from Seattle has discovered that the Secret Service agents who formed the ... Continue Reading:Today's new Secret Service El Salvador strip club revelations show why Obama picked Napolitano

EDITORIAL: Obama embraces Islam

If Islamism is OK for Egypt, why not America?

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Obama and Islam

The Obama administration is doing its utmost to promote the fortunes of the Islamist parties in Egypt. A State Department official declared that with the rise of these radical groups after the Arab Spring, "people who once might have gone into al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism." They see this as a victory. The problem is, so do the terrorists.

Last year, the White House began peddling the line that the uprisings in the Middle East were a repudiation of the al Qaeda model of seeking change through terrorism. The argument was that while America opposed violent extremism, the rise of nonviolent radical movements was just fine, and even commendable. Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri quickly dismissed this claim, saying that from the terrorists' point of view, it didn't matter whether an Islamist victory came through violence or not. The means were unimportant except as they related to the end state: the imposition of hard-line Shariah-based laws and policies.

From Zawahri's point of view, it makes no difference whether the caliphate is born of the ballot, bomb or bullet. The important thing is the victory of Islamism, which the White House also seems to endorse.

OCCUPY were just trained to create confrontations at Tea Party events and rallies, nationwide!

In observing the OCCUPY activities over the past year or so, I surmised that their "first wave" was designed to serve as their learning curve, and that their puppet masters would then deploy them to mount "Wave Two", creating new and more vehement outrages, building on their experience.

That's now coming to pass.

Please relay this to other Tea Parties.

Lou Flanagan

The General Wayne Tea Party

From a reliable source:

Training for OCCUPY members & supporters was conducted around the U.S. this past weekend. We know of this because some Tea Party members infiltrated some training meetings and reported what they've learned

The training was conducted in cities, towns and even smaller communities. Every trainer was equipped with a DVD, handouts and a training manual, and urged to recruit others.

The training included specific instructions to attend Tea Party activities - meetings, rallies and town halls

At such Tea Party events, they were instructed to instigate confrontations and disruption. My source added, '... remember that they are well trained, well funded, extremely well organized and directed.  This is no longer the ragtag bunch of fools who are clueless about what they are there for - they are still ragtag but now they have marching orders and each group will have an even better trained leader(s)".

My source also said, "...the OCCUPY movement has gone from semi-organic to fully supported and organized - and as I wrote before (and provided the links to prove this) - they are backed by the Communist and Socialist parties, UAW, SEIU, ACORN, myriad other communist/socialist organizations, Moveon.org, and of course, one of the key money people is George Soros.  This collection of 'sponsors' has no good intentions; moreover they are providing tents, food, water, sleeping bags, entertainment, drugs and more.  And they have insider's in key roles of leaders to incite and whip these people into a frenzy".

How should Tea Party members handle any "situations"? My suggestions:

            1. For your upcoming events, contact your local law enforcement chief well in advance and appraise him or her of your           concerns.

            2. Share this heads up with your news media - print and broadcast outlets - in advance. Do not wait until stuff happens.

            3. Ask your members to have the phone number of the local law enforcement people on their speed dial

            4. Ask members to bring a video camera with sound

5..At our weekly sidewalk rallies, I'll call the police first, but if things look bad, I'll instruct my members to leave as soon       as something starts. There's no use in engaging in a dispute with them because they will escalate it.

6.If they crash a meeting, call the police. Police have a handy thing in their toolkit called, "Inciting to riot" which aroundhere is good for thirty days in the slammer.

7. One purpose of their disruptions will be to create "news", in which your Tea Party appears in headlines about violence or disturbances. The other purpose is the disruption itself.

8. Be aware that the date May 1st,, May Day, is a traditional big day with lefties of all types, who know it as "International Workers Day".   I've seen a separate report that OCCUPY is planning "something big" for that date, but I have no other confirmation about it.

Regards,

Lou

By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.

Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.

It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents.
The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.

We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.

PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHERS... There's safety in numbers...

Here's a way you can lend a hand with our continuing struggle to warn the sleeping world about the dangers of radical Islam.

Clarion films, which produced the block busters Obsession, The Third Jihad and Iranium is stepping up its efforts to get these films shown.  I remember how happy I was when Obsession was first released. At last I had a way to reach the people I was trying to educate into a post 9/11 awareness. I distributed as many of the DVDs as I could.

Now you can help Ryan Mauro, a national security analyst on FOX News Channel, educate more people about sharia and jihad. Ryan is with RadicalIslam.org, the Clarion Fund's website. He is spearheading a new grassroots initiative to show these important films to local communities such as churches, synagogues, GOP/DNC/Tea Party groups, national security conferences or any other venue that may be interested.

No speaker's fee is required but travel expenses and a small screening license fee are requested.

I'm sure you will pass this along to all your contacts so we can really make a difference in our country's willingness to protect itself against sharia and jihad.

It occursin our history that people who had been living quiet lives, uninvolved with public affairs, hear an inner voice that calls them to serve their country and become leaders.

Diana Reimer is one of those people.

I've known her since the spring of 2009, when I attended the first of several Tea Party rallies she and husband Don organized in center city Philadelphia. As she spoke, I realized that here's a woman who is smart, articulate, determined and who has a deep love for her country and for her fellow Americans.

Since then, my awareness of just how special she is has increased: She and Don have helped others to organize Tea Parties in and around Philadelphia; out of their own savings, she has travelled the state and the country in order to further the interests of Tea Parties. Currently, Diana serves as National and PA State Coordinator, Tea Party Patriots as well as Nationwide Local Group Coordinator.

At our General Wayne Tea Party meeting this coming Tuesday, we'll hear from Diana about the condition of Tea Parties in our state and of their successes. Please bring anyone you know who might be interested in the work we are doing. Though there's little drama to her talks, something about her delivery causes people to perk up and focus intently on what she has to say. On Tuesday, you'll see what I mean.

Lou Flanagan

The General Wayne Tea Party

All Tea Parties in the region are invited!

The General Wayne Tea Party meets at J.C.'s Fireside Bistro from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, May 1st, 2012. The restaurant is located at 192 W. DeKalb Pike, Route 202, Valley Forge Shopping Center, King of Prussia. This is a BYOB restaurant; the food is excellent and we will have the entire facility to ourselves.

Other Tea Parties who help man the table are invited to bring material promoting their own group. Also bring a donation can labeled with your group's name.

Please respond to me with dates and hours you can help. This will be an excellent way to reach numerous people and perhaps gain some new members.

Kitchen Table Patriots

Let's get together and talk about what we did right and what went wrong on Primary Day in our area! This is the only way for all of us to effectively continue to make a difference in local politics.

We all came together back in 2009 because we were outraged by the election of Barack Obama, the passage of Obamacare and the direction of our country financially and ideologically. The time has come, perhaps our last chance to truly make a stance, for us to unite and work to defeat the progressive agenda which has already infiltrated us so deeply. The first step towards a big win in November starts now! So, we, at The Kitchen Table Patriots, urge you to come out this to make a difference, we can plug you in where you are needed.

This is where you can make a difference that really matters!

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

About John Stossel

John Stossel joined Fox Business Network (FBN) in 2009. He hosts "Stossel," a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues with a libertarian viewpoint, which debuted. His first shows covered health care, global warming, the novel Atlas Shrugged, "food police", and the Road to Serfdom.

Prior to joining FBN, Stossel co-anchored ABC's prime-time news magazine show, 20/20. There he contributed in-depth special reports and recurring segments on a variety of consumer topics, from pop culture to government and business.

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed,"argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.

Why don't we learn? Because our brains don't intuit well about complex situations. After thousands of years of taking orders from tribal elders, after years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!

I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!

69 Obama Lies

Dear Patriot,

About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies.

When we finished, we had created a 122-page, 20,000-word dossier that documents a disturbing cross-section of fibs, falsehoods, and fabrications that our President has used to win votes while implementing his radical agenda. Go here to see a larger image of the cover and the full list of 69 Obama Lies we have documented:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

+ + The Lies that got Obama elected...

69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy.

They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core.

Let's be clear -- it was these  "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward.

But we don't stop there....

+ + Obama's "Big Government" Lies

69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy.

It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...

The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie...

The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie...

The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie...

The "Government Motors" Lie...

The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie...

The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...

+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies...

69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs.

We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed.

And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources.

You get the actual words of Obama set against the truth -- the LIE next to the reality check. Go here to request your copies and see the complete list of 69 Lies:

If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans

for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. I guess

I can get rid of the baseball bat.

Wasp Spray- A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was
concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were
counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper
spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot
more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and
could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get
to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it
doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also
keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might
be of use.

On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead,
self defense experts have a tip that could save your life.

Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School.
For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door
or bed.

Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or
pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break
into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given
to students for decades.

It's also one he wants everyone to hear. If you're looking for protection, Glinka
says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe
get out." Maybe even save a life.

Please share this with all the people who are precious to your life

Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will! Good
to know, huh? It will also kill a wasp!!!!

Corbett's Colossal Cockiness Castrates His Credibility

Plus: Why Kathleen Kane's win will highlight the gov's handling of Jerry Sandusky investigation.

"Stevie Welch sat on a wall (of cards); Stevie Welch had a great fall (winning a mere two of 67 counties). All of King (or is it Joker?) Corbett's horses (jackasses), and all the King's men (endorsements by 27 county commissioners and 35 state legislators), couldn't put Stevie's candidacy together again (four of five Republican voters rejected the Welch-Corbett-Obama "ticket").

My prediction that Governor Corbett-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Steve Welch would come in a whoppingly bad third place was proven correct, though it didn't take a political genius to guess that result. After all, asking-strong-arming, actually-Republicans to support the Obama-voting, Joe Sestak-supporting Welch was anathema to common sense and political savvy. And the resulting carnage is everywhere: The endorsement of the state Republican Party is as meaningful as being valedictorian of summer school; getting backed by Corbett now carries substantial negative baggage, and GOP legislators will think long and hard about aligning themselves with the Governor on his signature issues (are there any?), fearing that his promises of support could be akin to political suicide.

Strassel: The President Has a List

Barack Obama attempts to intimidate contributors to Mitt Romney's campaign.

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for "betting against America," and accuses you of having a "less-than-reputable" record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.

Are you worried?

Richard Nixon's "enemies list" appalled the country for the simple reason that presidents hold a unique trust. Unlike senators or congressmen, presidents alone represent all Americans. Their powers-to jail, to fine, to bankrupt-are also so vast as to require restraint. Any president who targets a private citizen for his politics is de facto engaged in government intimidation and threats. This is why presidents since Nixon have carefully avoided the practice.

At the first hint of warm weather, greet all your liberal friends with a frenzied "Aiiieeee! Aiiieeee!" while gesturing in terror at the mysterious glowing orb in the sky: "It's getting warmer!" Why does nobody mention this stuff?"

Left Abandons ObamaCare for Green Mountain Care

EDITORIAL: Obama Embraces Islam

The Obama administration is doing its utmost to promote the fortunes of the Islamist parties in Egypt. A State Department official declared that with the rise of these radical groups after the Arab Spring, "people who once might have gone into al Qaeda see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism." They see this as a victory. The problem is, so do the terrorists.

Rumors of War III GBTV   Apr 29, 2012 01:23 pm

An invasion is underway. The U.S. is under attack. The enemy moves freely amongst us and even advises the very government bodies established to protect us from such a threat. They've already smuggled in at least one weapon of mass effect and are working to set up missile bases within striking distance of the homeland.  They are here, now, and their goal is singular and quite specific: The downfall of the United States of America. Libyan Muslim Brotherhood On the Rise   Apr 29, 2012 11:33 am

Under Mu'ammar Qadhafi's rule in Libya, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) was outlawed, and conducted most of its activity from abroad. Now that many of its members have returned to the country, the MB is beginning to consolidate its presence in the political arena and has established a party, called Justice and Construction.  Like the MB party in Egypt, the Libyan party presented itself as independent of the movement; however, the connection between the party and movement, both on the ideological and the organizational level, is difficult to ignore. Party leader Muhammad Sowan previously served as the head of the movement's Shura Council, and half of the party members are MB members.

"He knows how the media cover him. He takes full advantage of it. He makes sure that he's out there all the time-and that's part of the game."

TRUTH, JUSTICE AND JOURNALISM

It seems almost redundant to link to the Reuters piece on George Zimmerman that nearly everyone has seen by now, but what's interest about it is just how routine it is. It's a standard background piece and thousands like it run after prominent crimes. Any sizable news organization can put one out within a week and smaller community papers and magazines regularly run them when there's a major case. When the case is big enough, some of them get turned into movies, mostly they help set a tone.

The New York Times' War on Police   Apr 27, 2012 09:30 pm

At The New York Times annual meeting on April 25, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Arthur Sulzberger Jr. denied that his paper was waging a war on the New York City Police Department and its commissioner, Ray Kelly. The denials are not convincing. As I arrived in New York City for the annual meeting, the reason for the recent intensity of this campaign became apparent. Other papers were full of stories about how Kelly, who is very popular with city residents, is being pushed by New York City Republican officials to run for mayor.

Since Ahmadinejad was elected president in August 2005, Iran has extended and solidified its relations with several Latin American countries, especially Venezuela and Bolivia, and increased its efforts to obtain a political foothold in the others. According to findings brought before the American Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Iran has significantly increased its diplomatic representation in Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Argentina and Brazil. It was also reported that since 2005 Iran has increased the number of its embassies in Latin America from five to 11, and set up 17 "cultural centers" as well.2

President Obama's War on Domestic Energy Production: "Crucify Them"   Apr 26, 2012 01:00 pm

Inhofe Floor Speech
Mr. President, I rise today to address several questionable actions recently taken by the Obama Environmental Protection Agency to stop domestic energy production - particularly regarding hydraulic fracturing - and my intention is to explain to America what's really going on over at the EPA.

Muslim Persecution of Christians: March, 2012   Apr 26, 2012 11:25 am

The war on Christianity and its adherents rages on in the Muslim world. In March alone, Saudi Arabia's highest Islamic law authority decreed that churches in the region must be destroyed; jihadis in Nigeria said they "are going to put into action new efforts to strike fear into the Christians of the power of Islam by kidnapping their women"; American teachers in the Middle East were murdered for being or talking about Christianity; churches were banned or bombed, and nuns terrorized by knife-wielding Muslim mobs. Christians continue to be attacked, arrested, imprisoned, and killed for allegedly "blaspheming" Islam's prophet Muhammad; former Muslims continue to be attacked, arrested, imprisoned, and killed for converting to Christianity.

BENADOR: America Betrayed: Obama Legitimizes Muslim Terrorism   Apr 26, 2012 10:44 am

by Eliana Benador

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."     Sir Winston Churchill

Obama's pandering to the Muslim Brotherhood is certain to bring us trouble in the future

Apr 28, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Jim Emerson, staff writer

In his first foreign policy speech in Egypt, President Barack Obama reached out to the Islamic community. Obama did not invite President Mubarak to attend the speech. His special guests were the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Earlier this month political leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were invited to the White House to meet with officials from the National Security Council. The Brotherhood is on a good-will tour of the United States to gain creditability as a legitimate organization.

The main purpose of the Brotherhood's visit to the United States was to soften its image as a radical Islamist movement and to gain the Obama Administration's support in its raise to power in Egypt. The only obstacle in the way of the Brotherhoods total control of Egypt is the military. Seeking an alliance with Washington the Brotherhood may be able to put the military under its control. Once they gain control the Muslim ... Continue Reading:Obama's pandering to the Muslim Brotherhood is certain to bring us trouble in the future

American Minute April 27

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Forced to resign from the Army for excessive drinking, he failed as a farmer and a businessman. Not until he volunteered for the Civil War did things change.
He was promoted to brigadier general, captured Fort Henry and Vicksburg, and won Union control of the Mississippi.
Lincoln placed him over the entire Army and within a year he forced Lee to surrender.
His name was Ulysses S. Grant, born APRIL 27, 1822. As 18th President, Grant stated:
"It seems fitting that on the occurrence of the 100th anniversary of our existence as a nation, a grateful acknowledgment should be made to Almighty God for the protection and the bounties which He has vouchsafed to our beloved country."
In his 2nd Annual Message, December 5, 1870, Ulysses S. Grant wrote:

Apr 27, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

In February, Georgia Administrative Judge Michael Malihi deliberately ignored fact, the language of the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent in manufacturing the logically and legally impossible decision that Barack Hussein Obama was indeed a "natural born citizen" of the United States and therefore eligible to be on the Georgia state ballot.  This stunningly improper ruling-the sort to which the shameful disregard for common sense and legal ethics must always lead-made the judge a nationwide object of contempt and derision.

Though a great many court watchers were discouraged by Malihi's willful corruption of American justice, he did manage to provide one important service for the American public before being bought off by Obama's forces.  By permitting 3 separate eligibility suits to go forward and be decided, however improperly,  on their merits, Malihi had become the first judge to forgo the evasion tactic employed by so many of his corrupt colleagues on the bench. ... George Zimmerman: Afro-Peruvian White Hispanic Obama soul brother didn't want a gun

Apr 29, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The deeper we dig into the Zimmerman-Martin case the more we prove the media's narrative about George Zimmerman is filled with lies half truths and distortions. Based on new information, Zimmerman did not willingly purchase a gun. That came as a last resort to end the problem he had involving a neighbor's pit bull who was continually menacing his family's dog.

After repeatedly calling authorities for help and guidance, Zimmerman asked a Seminole County Animal Control Officer if he should buy pepper spray to use against the pit bull. He was told it would do little good since pepper spray took two or three seconds it to take effect, but in just a split second a pit bull can pounce on its prey. Buying a gun to deal with the problem was not George Zimmerman's first choice as a solution to his problem.

This begs the question: Isn't it clear that the ... Continue Reading:George Zimmerman: Afro-Peruvian White Hispanic Obama soul brother didn't want a gun

Obama and his "Youth vote" had better prepare for "Grandparents' revenge" in November

Apr 28, 2012 02:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

With his support rapidly drying up among almost every group, Barack Obama has turned to the so called "youth vote." He has personally visited, or sent a representative to, 130 college campuses across the country since March 2011. His obvious plan is to use the same lies he told in 2008 to appeal to people who have no life experience and don't know any better. "They believed it then, maybe they'll believe it now" is the Obama campaign motto, but is it working? Not yet, and nothing on the horizon suggests it will.

In 2008 whatever Obama told the empty headed college kids worked. As the quintessential political prostitute Obama put on ANY dress his customers wanted him to wear. "Lower student loan rates than those evil Republicans want you to have? you bet!" "More free stuff from the government? Coming right up" "I'm the one you've been waiting for, can't you see ... Noah's Ark in Today's Society!

 40 nights

In the year 2011, the Lord came unto Noah,
Who was now living in Buffalo and said:
"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over
-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."
"Build another
Ark and save 2 of every living thing
Along with a few good humans."
He gave Noah the blueprints, saying:
"You have 6 months to build the
 Ark before I will

Start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."

40 nights
Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah
Weeping in his yard - but no
Ark."Noah!," He roared, "I'm about to start the rain!
Where is the
 Ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."

"I needed a Building Permit."

"I've been arguing with the Boat Inspector
About the need for a sprinkler system."

"My neighbors claim that I've violated the
Neighborhood By-Laws by building the
 Ark in my
Back garden and exceeding the height limitations. We had to
Go to the Local Planning Committee for a variance."

need a permit

"Then the Local Council and the Electricity Company demanded a shed load of money for the future

costs of moving power
lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the
Passage for the
Ark's move to the sea. I told them
That the sea would be coming to us, but they would
Hear nothing of it."

"Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban
On cutting local trees in order to save the Greater Spotted Barn Owl."
"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I
Needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!"

"When I started gathering the animals the RSPCA took me to court. They insisted that I was
Confining wild animals against their will. They
Argued the accommodations were too restrictive, and
It was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in
A confined space."

need a permit

"Then the Environmental Agency ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted

an environmental impact study on your proposed flood."

need a permit

"I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the

Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm
Supposed to hire for my building crew."

"Immigration are checking the
Visa status of most of the people who want to work."

"To make matters worse, the Inland Revenue seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country

Noah looked up in wonder and asked,

The Flying Car Culture

Every now and then a hobbyist inspired by splashy magazine covers featuring art deco cities and soaring vehicles full of the cheerful people of the future puts together a flying car. The result is noted chiefly for its novelty and then everyone moves along because we aren't a flying car culture. From the bottom up we might long to soar above the highways, but from the top down we are a light rail culture, a biodegradable house culture and a guard rail culture.

For the people at the top the flying car should be able to fit in a closet, have a minimal carbon footprint, run on the tears of Third World children and not fly. It should be the sort of thing that you can leave outside a vegan tofu restaurant in Portland in order to shame working class truck drivers. That is if you have to have a car at all, rather than a bike and a light rail pass.

The flying car belonged to an America at a crossroads. A nation tiptoeing between the adventure of innovation and the progressive order of the nanny state. Since then the car has drive to this future that we have now. A world in which we have an expanding poorly managed government that oversees everything and an innovation culture chiefly confined to building a complex social environment within a data infrastructure built on Cold War communications technology. Or as some still call it, the internet.

Flying cars don't have much of a place in a society with emissions standards, mandatory child seats, heavily taxed gasoline and government motor companies. They have even less of a place in one that banned the lawn dart, requires photo ID's to purchase cough syrup and treats toothpaste as a weapon. America has gone from a nation that idealized freedom and treated the car as a vehicle of autonomy to one overrun by central planners still dreaming of the perfect national rail system that no one will use, because unlike its graceful forebears, but like everything overseen by the humanitarian bureaucracy it will be designed to crush the human spirit.

We don't have flying cars for the same reason that we don't any skyscrapers built in the last few decades worth mentioning or moon colonies, monuments, frontiers or anything that a latter day civilization could dig up and admire. There are skyscrapers still going up in American cities, if you haven't heard of them that's because they're self-effacing LEED compliant glass angular shapes that you forget even while you're looking at them. Even their ugliness is not stark enough to commit them to memory.

And of course they aren't very tall. Tallness like flying cars and the ambition to do anything but put out press releases is unsustainable. They do have a sense of the future to them, but an undramatic one, a future in which everything has been done and everyone sits around in glass boxes, pondering the state of their ennui and admiring the architect for putting an unnecessary asymmetrical triangle at the top of the glass box to remind us that the world dies every time we buy non-locally grown produce.

There is still an ambition to make large things. If the Chrysler and Empire State buildings don't make it to the next era, the stone age dwellers of the future can still marvel over the edifices of our countless government offices, temples of stone and steel filling the land, rope lines through which men trudged, in the opinion of future archeologists to participate in arcane rites or perhaps lining up to be human sacrifices. And they won't be entirely wrong.

We still build things, like affordable housing, government offices and memorials to multicultural heroes, we just don't build anything that matters or that lasts. There is no room in the massive fragmented tower of babel for anything but personal ambition and collective ideology. Nothing is made for the ages, we're lucky if most of what we make lasts till tomorrow.

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Builders and Destroyers

TRUTH, JUSTICE AND JOURNALISM

It seems almost redundant to link to the Reuters piece on George Zimmerman that nearly everyone has seen by now, but what's interest about it is just how routine it is. It's a standard background piece and thousands like it run after prominent crimes. Any sizable news organization can put one out within a week and smaller community papers and magazines regularly run them when there's a major case. When the case is big enough, some of them get turned into movies, mostly they help set a tone.

All they really involve in meeting with some of the locals, arranging for interviews, taking some notes and writing up the results. And what's really interesting about "Prelude to a Shooting" is how long it took until a media organization chose to run it.

I strongly suspect that there's a dozen pieces like it sitting in file folders and desks in other media organizations that have not decided what to do with them. I suspect the Reuters piece was in that same state until someone decided to finally run it. The Zimmerman family has been proactive in reaching out and trying to tell the story. It's the media that has held the door shut.

"Prelude to a Shooting" is not the last word on the case. It's background on Zimmerman, not the entire set of events, and it wouldn't even be all that significant except for the lynch mob atmosphere in the media and the refusal of the media to do any basic reporting on the case besides spewing back the same 'hoodie and skittles' narrative.

If Zimmerman had just shot a man in cold blood, there would be little point in laying out the background, it would be no more than another Bernie Tiede piece, but instead we do get crucial bits of context that explain what was going on in the neighborhood at the time in the context of property values, constant break ins and a neighborhood on the edge.

It's the final concluding material on Emmanuel Burgess that sets the most important context in the case. It tells us part of why events happened the way they did and that along with Martin's No Limit Nigga material sets a different stage than the one that the media has thrust on us.

Ben Stein's Diary

 Ben Stein

At War and at Peace

Reeling from another viewing of The World at War.

TUESDAY

Vegas, baby. My wife and I are here to speak to the Western Petroleum Marketers Association. These are people who own chains of gas stations and convenience stores all over the western USA. Also present are the men and women who supply fuel pumps, signs, food, immense, glittering gasoline transport trucks-works of art, really. The event is at the Mirage, a wonderful hotel. Last night, I wandered around the exhibit hall for quite some time and found myself in front of a display of Noble Roman's Pizza. I took two pieces. Rarely if ever have I tasted anything so good.

"Hunger is the best sauce," as the Latin saying goes, and I was starving. Still, that was amazingly good pizza. I had just flown in, along with my bride of some 44 years, and the last food I had was yummy pistachios that morning after speaking to the pistachio growers in San Diego. Wifey and I had stayed at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego right on the harbor, facing an immense aircraft carrier and many pleasure craft. That was some astonishing view.

 PJ Media

This month, PJ Media associate editor David Swindle spent three weeks blogging at the PJ Tatler about a disturbing book by one of Barack Obama's intellectual mentors. In Professor Derrick Bell's "Afrolantica Legacies," the founder of Critical Race Theory weaves together a mystical, science fiction fantasy with radical utopian politics. We've put these blog posts together into one guide that reveals the shocking and strange ideas of one of the progressive movement's most influential legal thinkers -- a man who imagined himself as a prophet spreading secret teachings delivered to him by an alien goddess.

Click here to access the guide to Derrick Bell's "Afrolantica Legacies" now.

David was inspired to write about "Afrolantica Legacies" when the great team at Breitbart.com unleashed a video of 28-year-old Barack Obama praising Derrick Bell and urging others to "open your hearts and open your minds" to his words:

I wanted to dig deeper into just what that would entail. The Breitbart guys, who have Harvard Law backgrounds, approached the legal side of Bell. My background is in religion, political theory and culture so I explored the other side. And what I found was disgusting. Bell's writing on Jews, women and Civil Rights heroes like Thurgood Marshall is shocking. In Bell's world, "blackness" isn't a skin color; it's a religion. And "Afrolantica Legacies" is his Bible.

Bell's Critical Race Theory is the key influence in the Obama Justice Department. And during the time period in which David was blogging through "Afrolantica Legacies," several news events illustrated the themes of the book, including the Trayvon Martin shooting and the media witch hunt for George Zimmerman -- instigated by the president's political allies -- that followed:

One of the things that struck me about coverage of Trayvon Martin on MSNBC was the way he had become a kind of religious martyr. People were going to church and praying while wearing hoodies. This mirrors the way Bell blends political activism with religious devotion in his book and also fits with his pattern of glorifying victimhood and martyrdom.

Derrick Bell may be gone but his ideas are very much alive. I encourage you to read PJ Media associate editor David Swindle's guide to "Afrolantica Legacies," and please share it with your friends: http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/04/17/the-hatred-of-derrick-bells-afrolantica-legacies/

 Real Clear Politics

Who Is 'Racist'? Part II

By Thomas Sowell

Around this time of year, I sometimes hear from parents who have been appalled to learn that the child they sent away to college to become educated has instead been indoctrinated with the creed of the left. They often ask if I can suggest something to have their offspring read over the summer, in order to counteract this indoctrination.

This year the answer is a no-brainer. It is a book with the unwieldy title, No Matter What ...They'll Call This Book Racist by Harry Stein, a writer for what is arguably America's best magazine, City Journal. In a little over 200 very readable pages, the author deftly devastates with facts the nonsense about race that dominates much of what is said in the media and in academia.

There is no subject on which lies and half-truths have become so much the norm on ivy-covered campuses than is the subject of race. Moreover, anyone who even questions these lies and half-truths is almost certain to be called a "racist," especially in academic institutions which loudly proclaim a "diversity" that is confined to demographics, and all but forbidden when it comes to a diversity of ideas.

The ultimate irony is that many of those who publicly promote or accept the prevailing party line on race do not themselves accept it privately. A few years ago, when a faculty vote on affirmative action was proposed at the University of California at Berkeley, there was a fierce disagreement as to whether that vote should be taken by secret ballot or at an open faculty meeting.

Both sides understood that many professors would vote one way in secret and the opposite way in public. In short, hypocrisy is the norm in discussions of race -- and not just at Berkeley. Moreover, it is the norm among blacks as well as whites.

Black civil rights attorneys and activists who denounce whites for objecting to the busing of kids from the ghetto into their neighborhood schools have not hesitated to send their own children to private schools, instead of subjecting them to this kind of "diversity" in the public schools.

As for whites, author Harry Stein says that many white liberals "give blacks a pass on behaviors and attitudes they would regard as unacceptable and even abhorrent in their own kind." This, of course, is no favor to those particular blacks -- especially those among young ghetto blacks whose counterproductive behavior puts them on a path that leads nowhere but to welfare, at best, and behind bars or death in gangland street warfare at worst.

Homosexual activist Dan Savage, recently invited to be the keynote speaker at a high school anti-bullying conference in Seattle, Wash., promptly used his podium to bash Christians so severely, droves of the students fled the auditorium, some say victims of bullying themselves.

The REAL story of George Zimmerman

A more nuanced portrait of George Zimmerman has emerged from a Reuters investigation into Zimmerman's past and a series of incidents in the community in the months preceding the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Based on extensive interviews with relatives, friends, neighbors, schoolmates and co-workers of Zimmerman in two states, law enforcement officials, and reviews of court documents and police reports, the story sheds new light on the man at the center of one of the most controversial homicide cases in America.

PAUL: Dodging destructive union rules

Americans want Congress to block new anti-business regulations

By Sen. Rand Paul

-

7:02 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012

MugshotIllustration by Alexander Hunter for The Washington Times

In June 2011, the National Labor Relations Board (NRLB) proposed new regulations that would do grave harm to small business, while simultaneously empowering organized labor unions. The regulations introduced by the Obama administration's NLRB would drastically shorten the union election process, encouraging one-sided campaigns. Under the current law, it takes roughly 38 days to hold a union representation election. Under this new regulation, however, employers could have as little at 10 to 14 days to communicate with their employees from the moment they learn a union is trying to organize their workforce election.

Among other things, these rushed election rules require employers to postpone legal challenges until after the workers vote. This quick process makes it more difficult for employers to effectively communicate with employees before the vote occurs. By drastically limiting the ability of employers to communicate with their employees regarding impending elections, these regulations effectively deny employees the opportunity to make informed decisions. Such regulations would place a large burden on employers - particularly small businesses that lack the legal expertise to navigate complex labor laws - and could result in numerous unintentional NLRB violations by unknowing employers.

The proposed election rules strip employers of their rights to litigate many issues in a hearing, limit parties' appellate rights and have the potential to dramatically decrease the time between the filing of a union election petition and the actual election. All of these rules are scheduled to take effect on April 30.

If, in fact, these rules are put into effect, labor unions will feel encouraged to start organizing drives in previously union-free workplaces, such as Target and Wal-Mart. But this is not something we should encourage. In fact, it is something we should strongly oppose and advise against. By implementing these regulations, we are ignoring the advice of bipartisan leaders. Then-Sen. John F. Kennedy in 1959 spoke of the importance of a "safeguard against rushing employees into an election where they are unfamiliar with the issue." And today, the American people agree.

The NRLB was inundated with more than 65,000 comments regarding these proposed regulations, and a majority of these comments were opposed to it. The people of America recognize that these regulations are anti-worker, anti-employer, anti-business and anti-jobs. The only ones who benefit are union organizers and their headlong quest for more

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 193 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Growth Slows

The economy is sputtering but still moving forward according to the latest economic report. First quarter gross domestic product showed 2.2% growth. Economists had been predicting 2.6%, and it is significantly lower than last quarter's 3% figure.

House To Cite Holder For Contempt

CBS News reports that Speaker John Boehner has given Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, permission to draft a resolution formally citing Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt. Rep. Issa has been investigating the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal for two years now, and has grown increasingly frustrated by the Justice Department's reluctance to provide information.

This is not just a petty partisan game of "gotcha." Fast and Furious was a botched operation that cost the life of an American law enforcement official. As you may recall, the Fast and Furious scandal involves a government program that allowed weapons to "walk" across the U.S./Mexican border. Ultimately, weapons that were part of the Fast and Furious operation were used in the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

The Justice Department is already in hot water for previously transmitting false and misleading information about Fast and Furious to Congress. But rather than stop the stonewalling and fully cooperate with Congress, Holder has dug in and evidently exhausted the patience of the House leadership. Stay tuned.

How Was Your Vacation?

How many vacations have you taken to Hawaii or Spain in the past three years? What's that -- you didn't get one, much less to two such exotic locations? I know the economy has been tough, but you certainly paid for them!

Barack and Michelle Obama are taking a lot of heat today for their lavish lifestyle. While millions of Americans are struggling in the wake of the Great Recession, reports that the Obamas have enjoyed so many lavish vacations since moving into the White House have many taxpayers steaming mad.

According to recent focus group surveys, blue collar Democrats are "resentful" that the Obamas are taking so many vacations at taxpayer expense. One such trip to Spain by Michelle Obama in 2010 cost taxpayers nearly $470,000. According to one report, the Obama's 17-day Christmas vacation to Hawaii cost us $4 million!

It's interesting that while Obama's main attack against Mitt Romney is based on class warfare, he's regularly hosting outlandish parties at the White House, taking really expensive vacations and playing more than 90 rounds of golf! One commentator remarked that Obama wants us to be more upset about how Mitt Romney spends his own money than we are about how Obama is spending our money!

By the way, the first lady said recently that it was her fantasy to "walk right out the front door [of the White House] and just keep walking." Millions of Americans share that same fantasy -- just so long as she takes Barack with her. And in 193 days, we'll get to make that dream come true!

An Apology And A Retreat -- For Now

Here's some good news. Al Armendariz, the EPA regional administrator who compared his enforcement philosophy to crucifixions, is apologizing for his outrageous remarks. In a statement released Wednesday, Armendariz wrote: "I apologize to those I have offended and regret my poor choice of words. It was an offensive and inaccurate way to portray our efforts to address potential violations of our nation's environmental laws." Offensive is certainly correct, but I fear it is an accurate representation of this administration's mindset when it comes to our energy producers.

The Labor Department is beating a hasty retreat from its plans to impose child labor laws on family farms. In a statement released yesterday, the Department stated: "The decision to withdraw this rule ... was made in response to thousands of comments expressing concerns about the effect of the proposed rules on small family-owned farms. To be clear, this regulation will not be pursued for the duration of the Obama administration."

Labor's backing down is good news. But I suspect it was reacting not to the thousands of comments but the possibility of Obama losing 50 votes. No that's not a typo. I'm referring to the number of votes in the Electoral College from a handful of key states where the farm vote could be decisive.

But I guarantee you, my friends, these are just temporary victories. Remember what Obama said when he leaned over to whisper in Russian President Dmitri Medvedev's ear? "After my election I have more flexibility." If Obama gets reelected this farm child labor issue is coming back, along with cap and trade and much, much more of Obama's radical agenda.

Speaking of which, First Lady Michelle Obama has been dropping some not-so-subtle hints about what Obama's true agenda is and what is at stake this November. It has been reported that in private meetings with donors Michelle is promising that Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor will vote to redefine marriage. Here's what Mrs. Obama has said:

"Let's not forget what it meant when my husband appointed those two brilliant Supreme Court justices, and for the first time in history our daughters and our sons watched three women take their seat on our nation's highest court. But more importantly, let us never forget the impact their decisions will have on our lives for decades to come -- on our privacy [abortion on demand] and ... yes, love whomever we choose [same-sex marriage]. That is what's at stake here."

She's right. If Obama gets four more years not only will he raise taxes through the roof, gut defense, spend us into bankruptcy and crucify our most productive industries, he will also continue to pack our courts with left-wing ideologues who will redefine and undermine every value and virtue pro-family, pro-life conservatives hold dear!

"Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." --James Madison

Government & Politics

A $6 Billion Bribe for the Youth Vote

Leftists are to be judged only by a promised future, never by the present or by what has been delivered. Case in point: student loans. With student loan interest rates set to double in July to their normal, un-subsidized rates -- thanks to legislation passed by Democrats in 2007 -- Barack Obama is pushing to extend the current level of federal subsidy as part of his re-election campaign. For his part, Mitt Romney agrees. And why not? Neither are listening to Tea Party complaints that this is not government's role. In any case, the U.S. is nearly $16 trillion in debt, and it can't afford to subsidize student loans.

Such facts are unpopular with both presidential candidates because -- so the line goes -- they will alienate a host of young voters who could decide the election. Incredibly, both the White House and Senate Democrats want to pay for the $6 billion, one-year extension with -- wait for it -- yet another new tax on small businesses. House Republicans propose to do it by using one of Obama's slush funds (more on that below).

The "promise" of student loans is that they enable a large segment of society that allegedly could not otherwise attend college for lack of the means to do so. The problem with this guarantee -- as with any leftist utopian promise that makes first contact with reality -- is that it produces exactly the opposite of its pledged result. Government-backed student loans are the overwhelming reason tuition costs have risen almost 450 percent since 1982, notwithstanding the recent claims of Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan.

In fact, student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt in America. The average debt is $25,000, with overall debt topping $1 trillion, and college graduates are now suffering the highest unemployment rate in 11 years. Costs for college generally are much higher than they would be were they not inflated by student loan subsidies, and market distortion wrought by these subsidies has at least in part contributed to an oversupply of certain types of college graduates: ones with unmarketable skill sets.

Sacrificing what was sure to be another important golf outing, Obama deigned to take time from his busy schedule to slander Republicans over the issue. Painting Republicans as student-haters, he asserted, "We cannot just cut our way to prosperity." In one sense, he's correct: $6 billion is a drop in the bucket when compared to the more than $5 trillion in debt racked up in his first three years. Furthermore, the loan subsidy extension, including all of its exceptions and caveats (it applies only to loans directly borrowed from the federal government; only to the sub-segment of those loans that are the so-called "Stafford" loans; and only to new borrowers, not to those currently enrolled) amounts to some borrowers saving roughly $7 per month. Of course, the real purpose of the extension proposal is to buy votes.

That said, we must "cut our way to prosperity." Both tax and spending cuts will be needed, not merely to put more money in the pockets of Americans, but to starve the ravenous beast that is the central government.

We close by noting that this is the same Obama who, as a senator, was missing in action when the loan subsidy came up for a vote on the Senate floor ... twice. Now, of course, extending the program is a "top priority." The sad truth is that the president's student loan subsidy plan is just one small part of a gigantic fiscal iceberg to our Titanic national debt. Spending is killing our nation and it has to stop, or we will quickly find ourselves in the company of Greece, Ireland, Portugal and a host of other European nations.

Comment: How long did it take to pay off your student loans?

This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Award

Barack Obama has taken to misquoting Republican House members on the student loan issue to distort and misrepresent their statements. Predictably, the Leftmedia are largely abetting his effort. Obama told a North Carolina crowd, "One Republican congresswoman ... said she had 'very little tolerance for people who tell me they graduate with debt because there's no reason for that.' I'm just quoting here, I'm just quoting."

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) actually said, "I have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there's no reason for that" [emphasis added]. Law and medical students might quibble with that, but Obama completely changed her meaning.

In Iowa, Obama railed, "You've got one member of Congress who compared these student loans -- I'm not kidding here -- to a 'stage-three cancer of socialism.'"

Rep. Todd Aiken (R-MO) actually said, "America has got the equivalent of stage-three cancer of socialism because the federal government is tampering in all kinds of stuff it has no businesses tampering in."

As you can see, Obama significantly changed the meaning of what Foxx and Aiken said to slander them and score political points. It's disgraceful, it's unpresidential, and, sadly, it's utterly unsurprising.

From the 'Non Compos Mentis' File

"In order to pay for [extending student loan interest subsidies, House Republicans] are going to make an assault on women's health, make another assault on women's health, continue our assault on women's health and pay for this with prevention initiatives that are in effect right now for childhood immunization; for screening for breast cancer, for cervical cancer; and for initiatives to reduce birth defects -- a large part of what the Center for Disease Control does in terms of prevention. ... [I]t may be a slush fund to [them], but it's survival to women." --House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

An $8 Billion Bribe for the Senior Vote

Democrats are nothing if not slick. Hidden in the bowels of ObamaCare is a provision to cut funding for Medicare Advantage, which was timed to eliminate coverage for many seniors just before Election Day. Since Obama obviously can't have that, he plans to tap an $8.3 billion slush fund to extend Advantage for one more year. Then, after he's safely retrenched in office, the program heads back to the chopping block. Even the Government Accountability Office is crying foul on the Obama administration's cynical political maneuvering and is calling on the administration to cancel the effort. After all, it amounts to an $8.3 billion campaign donation to Obama.

Republicans pushed Medicare Advantage in 1997 as a way to offer private-market options for seniors on Medicare, while (theoretically) saving taxpayer money. The latter didn't always pan out, but the program is popular with seniors. Obama ran against the program and deliberately targeted it with his health care "reform," cutting funding by $145 billion over 10 years, or about one-third of ObamaCare cuts to Medicare. Without funding, millions of seniors will be forced off their private plans and back to traditional Medicare. Now it's clear what he really meant by "you can keep your plan."

In related news, the Medicare Trustees released a report this week revealing that the program faces an unfunded liability of $38.6 trillion over 75 years. Likewise, Social Security's unfunded liability is $8.6 trillion. See again the above iceberg/Titanic metaphor.

Campaign Trail: Romney All but Wraps It Up

Mitt Romney swept five primaries Tuesday in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Delaware, symbolically if unofficially securing the GOP nomination. He celebrated with supporters in Manchester, NH, the site of his first victory in the campaign. Romney's speech was geared to the general election race ahead, and he even borrowed from Ronald Reagan's campaign playbook when he asked the crowd, "Is it easier to make ends meet? Is it easier to sell your home or buy a new one?" In the Gipper's words, "Are you better off than you were four years ago?"

Romney's Tuesday victory gave him a total of 838 delegates, but the numbers don't really mean much now. Newt Gingrich, who placed his meager hopes on a strong showing in Delaware, came up empty. The next day he signaled that he would exit the campaign and endorse Romney. Ron Paul is still campaigning, and, though some may wonder why, they need only take a look at the Minnesota delegate process to find the answer. Minnesota will send 40 delegates to the GOP convention, 24 of whom are based on congressional districts. Paul's organization spent a lot of time going district to district before the final delegates were awarded last weekend, and by making themselves known to the congressional delegates, Paul walked away with 20 of them. His ground game was quiet but effective, and he will be using it in contests that remain. This could provide him with a good measure of support going into the convention. It won't be enough to swing the nomination, but it will be enough to let him be heard. Having his small-government ideas gain the attention of the Republican National Convention will be a good thing.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama announced that he would be holding the "first rallies of the campaign on May 5." Of course, he has been holding re-election rallies -- funded by taxpayers as "official events" -- since he took office, and most of them just happen to be in swing states. It's so farcical that even The New York Times called him on it.

What's your take on Romney's candidacy?

Senate Races: You Can Run, but You Can't Vote

Incumbent Republican Indiana Senator Dick Lugar sold his Hoosier home in 1977, the first year that he took office, and for the last 35 years, he has laid his head to rest in another state, namely Virginia. However, for the first time in several election cycles, Lugar has a viable challenger, and his residency is a major issue.

First, Lugar's candidacy was questioned since he admittedly no longer lives in Indiana. Lugar's defense argues that he is still a resident since the Indiana Constitution states, "No person shall be deemed to have lost his residence in the state, by reason of his absence, either on business of this state or of the United States." Meant to protect Hoosier military personnel stationed out of state, residency requirements were plain for politicians.

Second, the Marion County Election Board ruled that Lugar has no residence and, therefore, is not able to vote. So, for a period Lugar was eligible to run, but ineligible to vote for himself. On the verge of a courtroom confrontation, the Marion County Election Board settled with Lugar, thus allowing him and his wife to use the family farm as an official "residence" -- since the 80-year-old Lugar swears that he intends to move back to Indiana after he retires from the Senate.

Meanwhile, Indiana's popular, constitutionalist, two-term Treasurer Richard Mourdock is the conservative challenger in the May 8 primary. With a stellar private and political career plus endorsements from conservative pundits and organizations such as Club for Growth PAC, National Rifle Association and Indiana Right to Life, Mourdock has gained traction and momentum. Not that Lugar will head back "home" without a fight.

New & Notable Legislation

The Senate, having not passed a budget in three years, did manage to approve one spending item Wednesday -- a $34 billion bailout of the U.S. Postal Service. By a 62-37 vote, the Senate opted to save the postal union from the disaster it has wrought without making the necessary reforms. The Postal Service could lose $12 billion this year, and some estimate that laying off 20 percent of its 530,000 workforce may be required for solvency. Yet the Senate deal still allows "no layoff" clauses for union contracts, eliminates reforms such as cutting Saturday delivery and makes it more difficult to close and consolidate post offices. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said, "Rather than removing the handcuffs and enabling real reform so the Postal Service can compete in the marketplace and serve communities that depend on it, this bill punts the tough choices to a future Congress and further hamstrings the Postal Service with more mandates that will put it in even worse financial shape. It even requires the USPS to provide certain services at a loss." Fortunately, the House is likely to block it.

Secret Service Investigation Continues

The investigation into the behavior of Secret Service agents in Colombia is now into its second week, and it's likely to continue. New allegations surfaced that a prostitute was taken to the Cartegena Hilton, the hotel where the president stayed five days later. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, suggested that the White House launch an internal review of all personnel.

The White House did conduct its own investigation into the 12 Secret Service agents implicated in the prostitution scandal. After 72 dramatic hours and no public details about how the investigation was conducted, the White House -- drumroll, please -- promptly cleared itself of any wrongdoing. That being the case, the Senate may want to continue digging on its own.

Six of the 12 Secret Service agents involved have departed, four voluntarily. Supervisor Greg Stokes was fired outright, and supervisor David Chaney was allowed to retire. Eleven military personnel are implicated, including six from the Army, two Marines, two from the Navy, and one from the Air Force. Their security clearances have been revoked, but no charges have been filed at this time. The scandal also extends beyond Colombia, with incidents alleged in at least four other countries.

Republicans Smarter Politically, More Open Than Democrats

A recent study conducted by the left-leaning Pew Research Center concluded that Republicans are more current on their political knowledge than Democrats. The "Partisan Difference in Knowledge" survey tested 239 Republicans and 334 Democrats on a number of political facts. For example, Republicans outscored Democrats 75-59 percent in identifying the correct party affiliation of Nancy Pelosi, and 73-58 in identifying FDR's party affiliation. There were large gaps in awareness when it came to identifying which party supported smaller government and which party is more conservative.

Similarly, a March Pew survey discovered that Democrats are more likely to reject a social networking contact based on political disagreement. A Washington Post poll from the same month also determined that Democrats are more likely to change their opinions based on subjects that are positive toward their party. Democrats were more than twice as likely to blame the White House for high gas prices in 2006 than in 2012. So much for the party of "tolerance."

EPA 'Crucifies' Oil Companies to 'Make Examples'

CNS News reports, "Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) took to the Senate floor [Wednesday] to draw attention to a video of a top EPA official saying the EPA's 'philosophy' is to 'crucify' and 'make examples' of oil and gas companies -- just as the Romans crucified random citizens in areas they conquered to ensure obedience." Inhofe released the 2010 video of the EPA speech this week. (We would link to it, but, curiously, it has been removed from YouTube due to a copyright claim. Inhofe wants answers to that one, too.) There's no doubt that random "crucifixions" would foster broad compliance through fear, but the 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection under the law -- hardly a hallmark of EPA practice.

Having been caught, EPA administrator Richard Armendariz, the official in the video, apologized this week, saying, "I apologize to those I have offended and regret my poor choice of words. It was an offensive and inaccurate way to portray our efforts to address potential violations of our nation's environmental laws. I am and have always been committed to fair and vigorous enforcement of those laws." Sen. Inhofe called the apology "meaningless," and asserted that the agency's claims of fairness aren't supported by the facts. Armendariz should either resign or be fired. In fact, the EPA should be disbanded entirely.

In related news, the Virginia Supreme Court dealt another blow to energy companies this week in a ruling that could, in effect, mean those companies can be held liable for damage caused by global warming.

What do you make of the EPA's tactics?

Income Redistribution: Food Stamp Nation

As U.S. GDP growth remains just one notch above stagnant, the number of Americans on food stamps has skyrocketed by 70 percent since 2008. This increase, while certainly an indicator of the Obama administration's abysmal failure, is also part of a much larger picture: the growth of the Welfare State since the 1960s. In fact, the number of people receiving food stamps grew from 17.2 million in 2000 to an astounding 44.7 million in 2011, and the cost grew from $20 billion to $78 billion over that time. Even more disturbing is the fact that the food stamp program is only one of 12 food assistance programs and a mind-boggling 79 federal welfare programs.

Total spending for these programs was $927 billion in 2011, with a projected cost of $1.5 trillion by 2022. If Congress merely scaled back this spending to pre-recession levels (with adjustments for inflation), and capped future spending, it would save taxpayers more than $2.7 trillion in the next 10 years. So far, however, any attempts to reduce spending -- or even freeze it -- have been met with outraged resistance from the Left.

On the other hand, financial concerns have reached the White House, in a manner of speaking. According to Jodi Kantor, New York Times reporter and author of "The Obamas," Barack and Michelle are also worried about how they are going to make ends meet in the coming years. Despite having raked in $8 million since taking office, Kantor reports that the Obamas have been calculating how long it will be before they will be able to write more books. True to form, Obama has tried to slough the issue off with awkward jokes about his wife's spending habits, but if he's really that worried, perhaps he ought to rethink his own economic policies.

Regulatory Commissars: Handicapping Employers

When enacted in 1991, the Americans with Disabilities Act was supposed to allow disabled people a chance to live their lives as normally as possible via the mandate that employers make "reasonable accommodations" to allow the disabled to perform the same jobs as able-bodied employees. Thousands of disabled workers thrived. However, as with almost all federal mandates, the potential for abuse was wide open. As time went on, more ailments fell under the category of disabilities and a cottage industry of trial lawyers made it their business to harass employers into going overboard to "accommodate" a select few workers who milked their status at the expense of the bottom line.

Now the federal government is considering further tweaking the rules to allow enhanced telecommuting options, make it more difficult for employers to enforce work rule infractions, and extend the 12 weeks allowed under the Family Medical Leave Act to an indefinite period for workers who can claim to be covered under the ADA. Critics of the rules maintain that employers will become more reluctant to hire those who are protected under the Act, and with an already-tight job market, reasonable accommodations may turn out to be unreasonable demands on beleaguered employers.

Second Amendment: Bank of America Drops Gun Company

Bank of America, the too-big-to-fail giant bailed out by American taxpayers to the tune of more than $100 billion, doesn't think much of the Second Amendment. The bank recently dropped a client for transparently political reasons -- namely that McMillan Group International is a gun manufacturer. McMillan had been with Bank of America for 12 years, but a BOA senior vice president scheduled an "account analysis" meeting in which he explained that, because McMillan had come to emphasize its firearms manufacturing over the last five years, Bank of America was dropping them. Kelly McMillan further details the exchange in a Facebook post.

According to gun blogger Bob Owens, "McMillan is heavily involved with U.S. national security. McMillan rifle stocks are the standard for the Marine Corps' favored M40A3 sniper rifle. McMillan products, from stocks and other accessories to complete rifles, are used by U.S. regular and special forces and by American military allies around the globe. McMillan products are of particular import in Afghanistan and in Iraq." Therefore, Owens concludes, "Per McMillan's statement, a politically partisan bank has severed the lines of credit to a company important to our national security." Bank of "America," indeed.

Immigration Front: Proof You Can Go Home Again

After hearing oral arguments Wednesday, the Supreme Court is expected to rule later this summer on the legality of Arizona's federally based immigration law. Fundamentally, Arizona empowered its law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration law by, for example, turning over illegal aliens to federal authorities. The Obama administration doesn't want these Democrat voters, er, illegals, to be pestered by certain sheriffs, but their case that Arizona is treading on federal authority doesn't appear to be a strong one. "[I]t's not selling very well," said none other than Justice Sonia Sotomayor, one of Obama's two appointees to the Court. The argument is centered on state and federal power, however, which doesn't preclude a later challenge based on claims of racial discrimination. Expect the law's opponents to try that angle if this one fails.

Regardless of the SCOTUS outcome, however, events may be changing the issue. A study by the Pew Hispanic Center finds that illegal immigration from Mexico may have reached a point thought unfathomable just a few short years ago, and it indicates that the attrition model of "self-deportation" suggested by Mitt Romney is coming to fruition. In the last half of the last decade, the number of immigrants coming here from Mexico fell by enough to match the increasing number of those leaving the United States. The poor economy and tougher immigration enforcement were cited as factors.

Because the Mexican-born American population has declined by 600,000 over the last decade, to around 12 million, the efforts by Democrats to woo the Hispanic vote may not be as successful in re-electing Barack Obama as they hoped. On the other hand, the decline in illegal immigrant numbers has defused the clamor for get-tough policies among the general population -- a Pew poll found the number of Republicans who considered illegal immigration a top issue declined from 69 percent in 2007 to 48 percent in January.

What role will immigration play in the election?

Guns in Mexico

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released its latest data on U.S. guns trafficked to Mexico. Their new number is 68,161 since 2006. That's 68 percent of the total guns (selectively) reported by Mexico, a far cry from the 90 percent repeatedly claimed by the Obama administration. Obviously, ATF's own Operation Fast and Furious played a significant role in the number of guns walked across the border, so forgive our skepticism about their figures. If Mexico has such a problem, perhaps they might consider securing their side of the border.

Warfront With Jihadistan: Another Decade in Afghanistan

Last Sunday, the U.S. and Afghanistan announced an agreement for the long-term presence of U.S. forces on Afghan soil. While neither Afghan nor American officials gave details, the agreement is believed to commit both sides to a 10-year partnership after the Obama regime's 2014 troop withdrawal deadline. Parts of the agreement, more than 18 months in the making, were read aloud on Monday in the Afghan parliament, but some rather important specifics were left out, such as how much funding the U.S. will provide to support Afghan security forces (or is that bribe Afghan officials?) and how many U.S. troops will stay in Afghanistan. The vast majority of combat troops will depart by the end of 2014, but the U.S. is expected to maintain a sizable force in Afghanistan long after that, upwards of 20,000 troops, including Special Forces, military trainers and government specialists. A sizable contingent of U.S. Special Forces should continue to wreak considerable havoc on Afghan terrorist networks.

With so few details available, the exact impact of the agreement is difficult to assess. However, given Barack Obama's previous haste to high-tail it out of Afghanistan, it is perhaps encouraging that he now seems to recognize and accept the need for a continuing U.S. presence in order to keep open the Afghan front of the Long War. The agreement should also send a message to the Taliban and other terrorists, as well as to whatever true Afghan allies we have there, that America will stay and fight in support of the fledgling Afghan government and security forces. Finally, this pact formally acknowledges, even for Obama and his minions, that the Long War has been and will continue to be just that, long, in spite of idiotic claims from some Washington officials this week that "the War on Terror is over."

Climate Change This Week: Alarmist Changes His Tune

James Lovelock, the 92-year-old climate scientist who came up with the "Gaia" theory of the earth being a single living system, long sounded the alarm over carbon dioxide emissions and their supposedly disastrous effects on the climate. As recently as 2006, he claimed, "[B]efore this century is over billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic where the climate remains tolerable." At some point since then, however, Lovelock has had a change of heart. He confesses now that not only were his warnings too "alarmist" but, "We don't know what the climate is doing."

He hasn't completely recanted, insisting that climate change is still happening, if not as quickly as he previously warned. "The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium," he said. Still, the global temperature "has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising -- carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that." In fact, global temperatures haven't changed much in two decades. Lovelock was quick to add, "I'm not a denier." Sounds like denial to us.

Even those in the nation's greenest city, San Francisco, seem no longer to be "true believers" in saving the planet. After an Earth Day gathering Sunday, Gaia's children left a large pile of garbage for others to clean up.

Accolades for Al Gore, Internet Inventor

While we disagree that he deserved an Academy Award or a Nobel Peace prize, we can say that Al Gore and his famous claim that "I took the initiative in inventing the Internet" deserves some sort of recognition. So it is that Gore will be among the first class of inductees into the Internet Hall of Fame. According to the Internet Society, the group putting together this newly created accolade for pioneers of the World Wide Web and other influential individuals, Gore is qualified because he was a "key proponent of sponsoring legislation that funded the expansion of and greater public access to the Internet." That's a little more modest than his claim of being the inventor of the medium, but it also overstates the importance of his contributions a bit.

Then again, overstatement has been a hallmark of Gore's political career, so the Internet Hall of Fame seems a perfect fit. We suppose, however, it would be an inconvenient truth that a simple Google search adds between one and 10 grams of carbon to the atmosphere.

Village Academic Curriculum: Vanderbilt and Occupy

As Vanderbilt University clings defiantly to its policy that campus religious organizations (specifically, Christian groups) must allow non-Christian leaders, the Tennessee State Legislature has stepped into the fray. More than 20 legislators recently signed a letter to Vanderbilt, warning the university that, while it has the right to set policy, the state "has a right not to subsidize any part of the operations of those organizations, like Vanderbilt University, that engage in unequal treatment of individuals and organizations, the effect of which is religious discrimination." Though private, Vanderbilt receives significant public funding.

In response, the university issued a veiled threat, reminding the state that the medical center at Vanderbilt provides services for TennCare, Tennessee's Medicaid managed care program and saying the threat of withdrawing public funds "puts ... those services potentially at risk." What's really at risk, though, is the notion that Vanderbilt can blatantly discriminate against Christian groups and face no consequences. In terms of fallout, it's the university and not the state that should be concerned.

Meanwhile, further solidifying the reputation of higher education as a bastion of radical leftist thought, three (nominally) American professors recently gathered in Iran to discuss the Occupy Wall Street movement. Providing interviews on the movement and, in one case, noting that Occupy will be "pressuring politicians to start addressing issues of social inequality," professors from Brooklyn College, Fordham University and City University of New York made themselves willing pawns of the Iranian government's propaganda-press. Nothing like offering anti-American talking points to an anti-American government.

And Last...

The Associated Press reports, "About 9,000 U.S. Marines stationed on the Japanese island of Okinawa will be moved to the U.S. territory of Guam and other locations in the Asia-Pacific, including Hawaii, under a U.S.-Japan agreement announced Thursday." U.S.-Japanese relations have reportedly been strained due to, as the AP puts it, "what many [reporters?] view as a burdensome U.S. military presence." Some 10,000 Marines will remain on Okinawa, where the U.S. has kept a sizable presence since World War II. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) has not yet weighed in on the plan, though he expressed fear in 2010 that a "very small island" such as Guam could "become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize." We want to assure him, as Adm. Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific fleet, did so patiently at the time, "We don't anticipate that."

Homemakers in an Age of Feminist Mystique

Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen hit close to many American homes with her comment that Ann Romney, stay-at-home mother of five boys, "had never worked a day in her life."

The broadside didn't just hit a presidential candidate's wife but also a wide swath of Middle America moms.

It turns out the typical stay-at-home mom doesn't live next door to the "Desperate Housewives" in a four-bedroom house on Wisteria Lane. Instead, as The New York Times reported after the Rosen-Romney dust-up, 65% of stay-at-home, married mothers of children under 18 live in a household with an annual income below $75,000.

Rosen apologized, saying she valued all women's work. Trouble is, her comments fit a longtime pattern of statements by liberal feminists that seem to diminish the decision not to work outside the home.

On the campaign trail for her husband in 1992, Hillary Clinton defended her own choice to pursue a law career by disparaging what others opted to do. "I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession," she told reporters.

Clinton's condescension was only a faint echo of the brutal comments made by feminist matriarch Betty Friedan in her 1963 book The Feminine Mystique.

"I am convinced there is something about the housewife state itself that is dangerous," wrote Friedan, describing the homemaker as consigned to "a comfortable concentration camp."

Friedan used the term "feminine mystique" to refer to "certain concrete, finite, domestic aspects of feminine existence" made "into a religion, a pattern by which all women must now live or deny their femininity."

Since Friedan's day, the demographics have changed dramatically. By 1982, women had outstripped men in the number of bachelor's degrees earned each year; by 1986, the same was true for master's degrees. In 1995, more women in the workforce had bachelor's degrees than men.

About 70% of married mothers with children under 18 were in the labor force as of 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"Within a generation, more households will be supported by women than by men," bestselling author and Washington Post reporter Liza Mundy predicts with praise in her new book The Richer Sex: How the New Majority of Female Breadwinners Is Transforming Sex, Love and Family.

Not all women will reach the same conclusion.

For decades, nearly all young women consistently have said marriage and motherhood are important to their future happiness. Strong majorities also look forward to working.

When they grow up to be mothers, juggling home and workplace responsibilities, many wish they could tilt their timesheet ratio more toward home. In fact, nearly 70% of full-time working mothers of children under 18 said they'd prefer to work part time or not at all, according to a 2007 report from Pew Research Center.

Feminists claim to support a woman's individual choice when it comes to the balance of work and family life. But episodes such as the Rosen flap don't reveal respectful regard for all women's choices in this arena.

Washington Needs A Lesson on Student Loans

You know a politician is looking for applause when he speaks in front of a crowd of college students and says he's there to help them pay back their student loans. After all, who doesn't like the prospect of free money? But as the saying (sort of) goes, beware of politicians bearing gifts. That's especially true this week as President Barack Obama travels the country warning students that their student loan interest rates are set to double and that he has the answer to all their problems.

Guess what? He doesn't. But if there's one thing the president has managed to accomplish, it's in turning this issue into a political football. And now the House of Representatives is joining the game.

This all began back in 2007 when Democrats pushed for a five-year student loan interest rate reduction to 3.4 percent as a temporary subsidy in order to help make the loans more affordable. Now that "temporary" subsidy is set to expire, meaning that rates will return to their original 6.8 percent levels. In the midst of all this, the House is expected to vote today on a measure that would keep interest rates where they are -- costing taxpayers $5.9 billion for a one-year extension. And under the proposal, the extension would be paid for by taking funds from Obamacare's Prevention and Public Health Fund. Obamacare, instead, should be repealed outright -- not used as a "slush fund" to pay for other programs.

But besides the measure being a flawed and costly way to pay for the lower interest rates, there's an even bigger problem. The supposed benefits of keeping the interest rates at 3.4 percent are largely illusory, and the president is selling students a bag of magic beans. Economist Douglas Holtz-Eakin explains on National Review's "The Corner":

[The interest rate increase] sounds serious. After all, there are 39 million Americans with student loans owing over a trillion dollars of debt, and interest rates doubling from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent would be a huge hit at a time when households are already struggling.

Serious, except that the president's plan would apply only to those 23 million loans being borrowed directly from the federal government. Except that not all of those would benefit; it would apply only to the 9.5 million loans being borrowed through the so-called subsidized Stafford loans. Except the lower rate would apply only to new borrowers who apply this year. Except that no payments are made until after graduation, so it would not help anyone for several years. Except that it would lower monthly payments by an average of only $7.

In other words, for an incredibly high cost, students are realizing very little benefit. And don't forget, these are loans that they're voluntarily taking on as part of an investment to benefit themselves.

None of this is to say that the federal government should spend even more to subsidize student loans in an effort to make college more affordable. It absolutely should not. Federally subsidized student loans are handed out to millions of college students regardless of risk -- let alone whether they can handle college-level work. Thanks to taxpayer backing, the loans are offered at rates far below what private lenders would offer. When the students can't afford to pay, the American people are stuck with the bill.

On top of all this, government intervention in the higher education marketplace hasn't even succeeded in bringing down college costs. In fact, the price of a degree has risen right along with government spending. Pell grants have increased 475 percent since 1980, and yet the cost of attending college has increased 439 percent since 1982. It's a vicious cycle that will only get worse with more government subsidies.

There's a better way to drive down college costs. Heritage's Stuart Butler writes that the higher education industry is on the verge of a "transformative re-alignment," and notes:

...most college leaders live in a bubble in which the costs of ever more elaborate facilities, expanding administrative bureaucracies, and high-profile professors with light teaching loads can simply be passed on to customers in the form of higher tuition.

But those days are about to end. Underneath the surface, upstart institutions are perfecting radically new education technologies and business plans at the same time that young people and their parents are becoming more frustrated with the traditional higher-ed model, and more open-minded about alternatives. There is every reason to suspect that, quite soon, these new institutions will do to higher education what Sony did to radios and Apple did to computing. Afterward, our colleges and universities will never be the same. Few Americans, one suspects, will look back in regret.

Sure, it might strike all the right populist tones to tell college students that you're going to give them a hand out, but the caustic effects of the policy will only make higher education more costly over time. Instead of a short-term spending splurge that has little benefit, Washington should pursue a long-term strategy that gives students the help they really need.

No Holds Barred Fundraisers For Abortion

'Abortion Bowl-a-Thon' Raises $400,000 To Fund Abortions
By Dr. Susan Berry
Breitbart.com

First, we had Planned Parenthood's 40 Days of Prayer for Abortion, and now we have The National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) third annual National Abortion Access "Bowl-a-Thon." NNAF, which calls itself a "reproductive justice organization," says it is an affiliation of more than 100 grassroots abortion funds. NNAF is sponsoring the "Bowl-a-Thon," a series of 32 fundraising events held across the country and online during the last two weeks of April. Designed to raise money to fund yet more abortions, the organization boasts that it has already raised over $400,000. Another event, a miniature golf-a-thon, hopes to raise $40,000 for abortions in Washington D.C.

And the slide is worsening, with a forecast of over $14 billion in losses in the current fiscal year, rising to over $18 in billion losses by 2015.

Wisconsin's New Aristocracy Is on the Ballot

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published April 26, 2012 on Forbes.com.    Our Founding Fathers carefully eliminated in American law every special legal privilege of the old aristocracies of Europe. They strongly favored instead equality under the law, later enshrined in the Constitution's Equal Protection Clause, which means not equality of result, but that everyone plays by the same rules.

A recall election for Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is scheduled for June 5. But on the ballot that day will effectively be whether we should establish in law after all these years a new aristocracy in America, not subject to the democratic will of the people like everyone else, with special legal privileges, including the right to plunder the taxpayers with virtual impunity. That new aristocracy is state and local government public employee unions.

Nationwide, these public employee unions plunder taxpayers for pay for state and local government workers that is on average 45% more than the taxpayers paying those salaries make in the private sector. The bill to taxpayers for each of these workers includes an average hourly wage of $26.25, plus another $13.56 in hourly costs for benefits, for total hourly costs of $39.81, or $80,000 per year on average. This is true in Wisconsin as well. Indeed, the Manhattan Institute's E.J. McMahon reports that for public school teachers in Milwaukee, the annual cost of family health coverage is $26,844, for which the teachers were paying nothing.

The Secularization of Martin Luther King Jr.

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published April 26, 2012 on The Daily Caller website.

At the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington earlier this month, the faithful met to worship the Almighty and discuss the latest battles for religious liberty in an increasingly secular culture.

When the Knights of Columbus' Supreme Knight Carl Anderson spoke, he made a startling observation about the capital's new Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. monument: Even though Dr. King was a Baptist minister and his history-altering speeches about civil liberties are saturated with references to natural rights and profound theological constructs, none of the 14 quotes carefully etched into his stone monument contain references to God.

Mr. Anderson mocked those in authority who were given the difficult task of carefully combing through Rev. King's archives to find a few secular quotations.

Analysis: Supreme Court May Split Decision in Arizona Immigration Law

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published April 26, 2012 on Breitbart.com.

"What does sovereignty mean if it does not include the ability to defend your borders?" That question by Justice Antonin Scalia goes to the heart of the Supreme Court's blockbuster immigration case, Arizona v. United States. (Download a PDF of the amicus brief the ACRU filed in the case here). The end result will likely be a split decision that will disappoint some and be spun as a victory by others.

On April 25, the justices heard arguments in the challenge to Arizona's controversial law, S.B. 1070. But the case is not what many in the media are reporting.

First, this is not a constitutional challenge. No one is saying that Arizona's law is unconstitutional.

Second, this is not an immigration case. Although the public policy issue is immigration, that's not the legal issue before the Court. Congress has exclusive power over immigration. But as the Court has held repeatedly, immigration only concerns who can cross America's national borders, and the length and conditions of their stay. S.B. 1070 does not pretend to deport anyone. The Court has also held that states can have jurisdiction to enforce federal laws, so long as they mirror federal requirements and do not frustrate Congress's designs.

On Today's Program    Glenn BeckObama's shocking ties to the Muslim Brotherhood
Glenn talked on radio today about GBTV's stunning documentary Rumors of War III: Target U.S. and how it showed the administration's shocking ties to the radical Muslim Brotherhood. They are trying to recreate the Arab Spring here in the U.S. & with our (and Europe's)  economy on edge it won't take much to push us over the cliff. More on the story HERE - see the documentary HERE.

Share with your friends: The release of Rumors of War III is one of the most important hours of television Glenn's been a part of yet. The connections revealed between the Muslim Brotherhood and top ranking positions in our government are unbelievable. We can't rely on "honest" journalists to get this information to the public, so we are counting on YOU. Rumors of War III: Target U.S. is available on demand now. Share this with your friends and family - click here to learn how. They can start a 14 day free trial risk free, but this information will only go as far as you take it.

Tonight on Real News: The left likes to say that the right is too extreme, and that moderate Republicans are a thing of the past. Well, if this week's primaries are any indication, moderate Democrats are actually the endangered species. In the Pennsylvania primaries two blue dog Dems lost to far left liberals - a trend that seems to be increasing in Democrat districts. Will this shift lead to even more intransigence in politics? That's just one of the many topics up for discussion tonight at 6pm ET on Real News from The Blaze.

Glenn was a Jeopardy answer this week. Was it too easy? Watch the clip HERE.

Amazing advancements in the battle against cancer: Glenn talks about Kanzius Research on radio today. Check out all the great work they are doing & join the fight! DETAILS

Obama slow jams the news & the economy
Nothing like a little propaganda on late night television - that's exactly what America got when Obama stopped by Jimmy Fallon's program to participate in his 'slow jam' the news bit. Only, there was nothing really that funny, just Obama giving a speech and the host making it appear cool. Glenn plays the audio on radio today.

Geek Out for Good: Mercury One needs your help

Michelle Obama's (and many others) fantasy: Walk out the front door and keep on walkin
In a recent interview Michelle Obama revealed a fantasy of hers, and it just so happens this very same fantasy is shared by millions and millions and millions of Americans. Hear the first lady fantasize about walking out of the White House and 'just keep on walking' #DoIt! #PLEASEdoIT! #Takeyourhusbandwithyou! See Glenn's epic reaction on radio today.

Obama's buddies in the Muslim Brotherhood push for sex with dead wives
This is new legislation coming out of parliament in Egypt -- where the Muslim Brotherhood is now running the show. If your wife dies you can have sex with her 6 hours after she's dead. Oh and they want to allow 14 year old girls to be married off by her parents. This is the same group the President is legitimizing with meetings at the White House -- this is the real war on women. Glenn goes off on radio: WATCH.

Ted Nugent last night on GBTV: After something Ted Nugent said at the NRA convention landed him a date with the Secret Service, Glenn was livid. Ted has been under attack by out-of-control government regulations from this administration far longer than most people are aware. Last night he joined Glenn on GBTV to tell the full story.
