Quote:
Obamacare is a modern legacy of Jeremy Bentham's utilitarian principle of governance: "the greatest good for the greatest number."
If society owns all of the wealth in a country, then the government that is chosen by the body politic will decide how to use it to benefit the greatest number.
If individuals own the wealth that they create and set aside, then individuals get to decide how they will spend their own wealth.
EPA Official's 'Philosophy' On Oil Companies: 'Crucify Them' - Just As Romans Crucified Conquered Citizens
By Craig Bannister
April 25, 2012
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) took to the Senate floor today to draw attention to a video of a top EPA official saying the EPA's "philosophy" is to "crucify" and "make examples" of oil and gas companies - just as the Romans crucified random citizens in areas they conquered to ensure obedience.
Inhofe quoted a little-watched video from 2010 of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official, Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz, admitting that EPA's "general philosophy" is to "crucify" and "make examples" of oil and gas companies.
In the video, Administrator Armendariz says:
"I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I'll go ahead and tell you what I said:
"It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They'd go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw and they'd crucify them.
"Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years."
EPA Official: EPAs "philosophy" is to "crucify" and "make examples" of US energy producers
Climate of Fear: Inhofe Calls Out Obama's EPA Over Scare Tactics
by Tad Cronn
Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma has begun an investigation of the Environmental Protection Agency's use of disinformation and scare tactics to damage the American energy industry.
The EPA's recent efforts to portray hydraulic fracturing as dangerous were the spur for the investigation, but Inhofe has cited incidents that point to an entire anti-energy agenda.
Inhofe sent a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson demanding an explanation after the office of EPA Region 6, which includes Inhofe's constituency, issued a warning that hydraulic fracturing could cause houses to explode.
According to Inhofe, Regional EPA Administrator Al Armendariz repeated the accusation in several interviews before the warning was quietly withdrawn.
By allowing our attention to be focused exclusively on the danger and prevention of terrorism, we ignore the many other ways we are being attacked. Specifically, we are missing what our Islamist enemies call their 'civilization jihad' - a form of warfare that employs manipulative financial techniques, lawfare, infiltration of our civil institutions and government and insidious information dominance. Together, these have the effect of exploiting our liberties and governing structures against us, so that our leaders wind up imposing the very anti-American values that our enemies promote.
Welcome to The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within - a 10-part, web-based video briefing that is designed to explain why and how this is happening.
It addresses a threat most Americans are unaware even exists within our country, let alone the degree of peril it represents. The threat is the totalitarian, supremacist Islamic doctrine its adherents call "shariah" and the organized, disciplined and increasingly successful efforts by such adherents-- most especially the Muslim Brotherhood-- to bring it here.
We are making this course available in the hope of encouraging, informing and broadening support for national efforts to defeat the insinuation into this country of shariah's anti-constitutional and seditious program.
Nugent Reveals Details to Beck About the Alaskan Hunting Trip That Made Him a Target of the Feds
The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on April 26, 2012 at 1:17pm
Over the past few weeks, rocker Ted Nugent has been making headlines. From his controversial speech at the National Rifle Association conference to his recent drama over hunting missteps with the U.S. government, Nugent has had a busy month. In a radio interview with Glenn Beck this morning, the musician delved into the details surrounding his recent guilty plea for illegally killing a black bear in Alaska - details that appear to show he's being targeted by the Feds.
During the discussion, Nugent described some of the regulations that are impeding landowners' and hunters' rights, while reiterating his strong views on the importance of being a law-abiding citizen. He told Beck that he was completely unaware of the Alaska law when he killed the bear back back in 2009.
"I stumbled in Alaska. There was a new law - that it's very important to note that I wasn't the only one who had never heard of it," Nugent explained. "We can't find anybody that ever heard of this new unprecedented law that if your arrow or bullet shows signs of nicking or touching an animal, that your big game tag is null and void - including the resident judge in the courtroom who's lived in the only zone where this law exists."
Nugent explained the details of the hunting incident and explained what he had to go through - including being threatened with jail time and a $100,000 fine - over what he described was an unintentional misstep. He said he seeks not to disrupt society but simply to live the American dream and promote ethical and responsible hunting.
He also discussed how he was forced to slaughter his livestock for being mislabeled "feral" by the bureaucrats in power.
"It is planet of the apes!" he exclaimed over the state's ineptitude. The interview only got better from there.
OCCUPY were just trained to create confrontations at Tea Party events and rallies, nationwide!
In observing the OCCUPY activities over the past year or so, I surmised that their "first wave" was designed to serve as their learning curve, and that their puppet masters would then deploy them to mount "Wave Two", creating new and more vehement outrages, building on their experience.
That's now coming to pass.
Please relay this to other Tea Parties.
Lou Flanagan
The General Wayne Tea Party
From a reliable source:
Training for OCCUPY members & supporters was conducted around the U.S. this past weekend. We know of this because some Tea Party members infiltrated some training meetings and reported what they've learned
The training was conducted in cities, towns and even smaller communities. Every trainer was equipped with a DVD, handouts and a training manual, and urged to recruit others.
The training included specific instructions to attend Tea Party activities - meetings, rallies and town halls
At such Tea Party events, they were instructed to instigate confrontations and disruption. My source added, '... remember that they are well trained, well funded, extremely well organized and directed. This is no longer the ragtag bunch of fools who are clueless about what they are there for - they are still ragtag but now they have marching orders and each group will have an even better trained leader(s)".
My source also said, "...the OCCUPY movement has gone from semi-organic to fully supported and organized - and as I wrote before (and provided the links to prove this) - they are backed by the Communist and Socialist parties, UAW, SEIU, ACORN, myriad other communist/socialist organizations, Moveon.org, and of course, one of the key money people is George Soros. This collection of 'sponsors' has no good intentions; moreover they are providing tents, food, water, sleeping bags, entertainment, drugs and more. And they have insider's in key roles of leaders to incite and whip these people into a frenzy".
How should Tea Party members handle any "situations"? My suggestions:
1. For your upcoming events, contact your local law enforcement chief well in advance and appraise him or her of your concerns.
2. Share this heads up with your news media - print and broadcast outlets - in advance. Do not wait until stuff happens.
3. Ask your members to have the phone number of the local law enforcement people on their speed dial
4. Ask members to bring a video camera with sound
5..At our weekly sidewalk rallies, I'll call the police first, but if things look bad, I'll instruct my members to leave as soon as something starts. There's no use in engaging in a dispute with them because they will escalate it.
6.If they crash a meeting, call the police. Police have a handy thing in their toolkit called, "Inciting to riot" which aroundhere is good for thirty days in the slammer.
7. One purpose of their disruptions will be to create "news", in which your Tea Party appears in headlines about violence or disturbances. The other purpose is the disruption itself.
8. Be aware that the date May 1st,, May Day, is a traditional big day with lefties of all types, who know it as "International Workers Day". I've seen a separate report that OCCUPY is planning "something big" for that date, but I have no other confirmation about it.
Regards,
Lou

To all of our volunteers who helped us on Primary Day by working the polls for our race Delegate and Alternate Delegate race as well as ensuring that the voters were receiving information on Sam Rohrer.
We may not have won this time around, but many lessons were learned which will be useful as we continue to move forward as a team.
The Kitchen Table Patriots would not be as effective if it were not for the time and effort of our many volunteers!
If you see any of our campaign signs throughout the 8th District, please help us by taking them off the streets please.

Let's get together and talk about what we did right and what went wrong on Primary Day in our area! This is the only way for all of us to effectively continue to make a difference in local politics.
We all came together back in 2009 because we were outraged by the election of Barack Obama, the passage of Obamacare and the direction of our country financially and ideologically. The time has come, perhaps our last chance to truly make a stance, for us to unite and work to defeat the progressive agenda which has already infiltrated us so deeply. The first step towards a big win in November starts now! So, we, at The Kitchen Table Patriots, urge you to come out this to make a difference, we can plug you in where you are needed.
This is where you can make a difference that really matters!
PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHERS... There's safety in numbers...
Here's a way you can lend a hand with our continuing struggle to warn the sleeping world about the dangers of radical Islam.
Clarion films, which produced the block busters Obsession, The Third Jihad and Iranium is stepping up its efforts to get these films shown. I remember how happy I was when Obsession was first released. At last I had a way to reach the people I was trying to educate into a post 9/11 awareness. I distributed as many of the DVDs as I could.
Now you can help Ryan Mauro, a national security analyst on FOX News Channel, educate more people about sharia and jihad. Ryan is with RadicalIslam.org, the Clarion Fund's website. He is spearheading a new grassroots initiative to show these important films to local communities such as churches, synagogues, GOP/DNC/Tea Party groups, national security conferences or any other venue that may be interested.
No speaker's fee is required but travel expenses and a small screening license fee are requested.
I'm sure you will pass this along to all your contacts so we can really make a difference in our country's willingness to protect itself against sharia and jihad.

Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution
Available to you, your family, your friends, and all Americans.
Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"
In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.
That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."
Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.
I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!
And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.
Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:
This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!
I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101"course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!
"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.
It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.
Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.
Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader. Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.
About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.
Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

John Stossel joined Fox Business Network (FBN) in 2009. He hosts "Stossel," a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues with a libertarian viewpoint, which debuted. His first shows covered health care, global warming, the novel Atlas Shrugged, "food police", and the Road to Serfdom.
Prior to joining FBN, Stossel co-anchored ABC's prime-time news magazine show, 20/20. There he contributed in-depth special reports and recurring segments on a variety of consumer topics, from pop culture to government and business.
John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed,"argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.
Why don't we learn? Because our brains don't intuit well about complex situations. After thousands of years of taking orders from tribal elders, after years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.
Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine.
May 31st The Patrick Henry Award will be Presented to Glenn Beck
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:
For Tea Parties, this can be used as basic ammunition for letters to the editor, columns for your local news outlet, handouts at public events, emailing the pdf to our elected reps as well as to members, friends and neighbors.
This appears to be an excellent resource; let's make use of it.

Dear By revealing the Nazi and Marxist origins of groups such as the Muslim Students Association and Students for Justice in Palestine and the connections between these organizations and terrorist activities around the globe, Muslim Hate Groups on Campus sheds light on the dark undercurrent of anti-Semitism which flows unobstructed through our most prestigious institutions of higher education.
On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!
I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!
Dear Patriot,
About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies.
69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy.
They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core.
Let's be clear -- it was these "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward.
But we don't stop there....
+ + Obama's "Big Government" Lies
69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy.
It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...
The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie...
The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie...
The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie...
The "Government Motors" Lie...
The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie...
The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...
+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies...
69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs.
We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed.
And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources.
If you can help Grassfire with a contribution of ANY AMOUNT (even a few dollars to cover printing and shipping), we'll send you TWO COPIES of "69 Obama Lies" -- one to keep and one to share with a friend.
We have asked the printer to rush the first printing of 69 Obama Lies so we can get this resource into our team members' hands as quickly as possible.
As a result, we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23.
In order to be included in our first shipment, please let me hear from you as soon aspossible. Go here to request your two copies:
I truly believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough and most important resource Grassfire has ever created. And I want to put it in the hands of every Grassfire team member.
Please take a moment to order your two copies of 69 Obama Lies today, and thanks for the stand you are taking.
Patriots, this booklet will assist in setting the record straight with swing voters, moderates, and even Democrats! This is the best resource I have seen to prove the lies from Obama - out of his own mouth- versus the truth or facts. This is the resource of this 2012 Presidential election year.
Want Obama out? Then obtain multiple copies of this booklet and share with friends, neighbors, co-workers, church family, and your tea party. To win we must be equipped! This is the best weapon for your arsenal of resources to beat Obama!

Tony Robbins is known for motivational speaking. This man is the king of positive thought, and it is hard to argue with his success. I have known people who have gone to his seminars and had some life changing results. So, when I heard Robbins' dire warnings on this video he did three weeks ago, it really made me sit up and take notice. Not because he's telling me anything new, but because he is definitely stepping out of his comfort zone to warn people of an approaching financial calamity that will make 2008 look like a pillow fight. I do not think he's trying to make a buck. I think he's doing a little public service to wake up sleeping Americans.
It, also, struck me that Robbins had a firm grasp on the appalling shape of the U.S. government's finances. You know he knows some powerful, connected people, and this must be a reflection of their fears as well. I don't know that for a fact, it's just my gut feeling. There is plenty to be fearful of even though the mainstream media is obsessed with trivial crap that doesn't make a dimes worth of difference in 99.9% of anyone's life.
The real story here is the economy. I cover it not because I am a financial junkie, I'm not. I think this is the big story of today's generation, and it will continue to be the big story for the foreseeable future. We will all be touched and changed by what is coming-no exceptions. No country on earth has ever been this deep in debt and produced this much currency (most of it is digital). What will happen in the not-so-distant future to the wealth of U.S. citizens will be something that only happens every 300 years or so. Forget about talk of bad things happening for the kids and grandkids. That's 80's and 90's talk. What's coming is for us in the here and now. You can already see the wheels coming off, especially if you are one of the chronically unemployed, or one of the 47 million Americans on food stamps. Please take time to watch Tony Robbins' dire wake-up warning. You will be glad you did. It was excellent.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday several moderate Democrats went down in flames in Pennsylvania, continuing a trend that has escalated since 2008. Liberals do not want moderate Democrats in their caucus.
What is most interesting about it from a conservative perspective, however, is how there has not been a ton of coverage about the death of the blue dogs - more dogs dead in Barack Obama and the left's war on dogs. Had moderate Republicans been defeated, we would have major stories on pretty much every news network and on the front page of every paper in America.
Routinely we hear that Republicans cannot win in New England, despite Republican successes in New England in 2010. Routinely we hear about the GOP driving moderates out of the party. Big tent cliches surround the stories. Rarely does the ongoing purging of the Democratic Party make such news.
On the eve of Obama's NLRB unleashing its new rules giving unions the ability to hold ambush elections-that is, the evisceration of employers' ability to question or challenge unions in their quest to cherry-pick voting units-more data was just released by the Bureau of National Affairs that calls into question why anyone in their right mind would pay dues to a union today.
In addition to the $369 billion in underfunded union (private-sector) pension plans, the abundant evidence that unions kill companies and destroy jobs, today's unions are doing such a miserable job at the one thing they're supposed to do-negotiate contracts-that union members should demand refunds from their union bosses.
According to the April 9th issue of the Bureau of National Affairs Daily Labor Report (subscription required), unions negotiated contracts in 2011 that, in 41% of the contracts, employees received no increase in the contract's first year.
No apology is necessary, Mr. Armendariz. In a perverse way, your comments reveal the tactics of your agency, and more importantly, the philosophy which motivates Mr. Obama's entire Administration.
It also speaks of the arrogance of a government that thinks its citizens are its subjects, and whose middle managers find amusement in crushing people's lives and livelihoods.
One more thing about the Roman analogy - mmm, as I recall, that strategy didn't work out too well for the Romans. Does Mr. Obama play the fiddle?
Every elected Republican came to Washington promising to slash spending and balance the budget. Yet, when it comes time for the most direct way to enact those spending cuts; namely, the annual appropriations bills, most of them are missing in action.
In an ideal world, Republicans should hold the upper hand in negotiations over spending bills. They enjoy complete control over the House, while Harry Reid only has a tenuous hold on the Senate at just 53 seats. Unfortunately, as we chronicled extensively here at Red State, House and Senate GOP leaders agreed to jettison the Ryan budget halfway through the process in favor of Harry Reid's minibus and omnibus bills, which vitiated every worthy goal of that budget.
REFUTATION: Yeah, so that'll be why Arabs serve in the Israeli parliament as MPs (known as MKs for "Members of Knesset"); why they serve in the Israeli foreign service, in the government ministries, and even-in the case of the Druze sect who are not seen as having divided loyalties-in the Israeli Defense Force. Most signs are written in Hebrew and Arabic. An Arab woman has more rights in Israel than in most countries in the Arab and Muslim world.
Having learned nothing from history, the U.S. has now begun an agreement with Afghanistan to provide support for the next decade. Isn't the definition of madness doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results?
Do you want your child thrown to the floor, handcuffed and hauled to a mental institution for burping in class or doodling on a desk? If not, you might want to pull him out of government school while you still can.
Pyongyang now knows whether Obama will curtail North Korea's aggression. Our lame rebuke not only encourages Pyongyang to conduct its third nuclear test but encourages Iran to press forward with its own nuclear program as well.
A sergeant will be discharged for criticizing President Obama on Facebook in a case that called into question the Pentagon's policies about social media and its limits on the speech of active duty military personnel, the Marine Corps said Wednesday.
President Obama's election campaign is recruiting an army of determined community organizers to walk the streets of the nation's cities this summer and autumn in his footsteps .
Please add your name to our open letter to Congress!!
Last week we launched an open letter to select congressional chairmen expressing opposition to proposed changes to FBI counterterrorism training materials, changes that appear to have been asked for by Sen. Dick Durbin-as well as by organizations such as ISNA (Islamic Society of North America), a Muslim Brotherhood organization and an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial.
We need to add as many names as possible in the next ten days to this open letter, because we are working right now to get it entered into the congressional record expressing our opposition to these ill-advised changes. The more names the better.
Below we feature a column on this issue (highlights added) written by Ken Timmerman, one of the speakers we have scheduled for our 2012 National Conference & Legislative Briefing.
To register or find out more about the conference, which includes Rep. Allen West as the keynote speaker at our gala banquet, please click here.
Ken knows why Sen. Durbin is wrong-and he knows it from personal experience. Ken has actually studied with an Islamic scholar.

Politically Correct - and Dead
By Kenneth R. Timmerman
Senator Dick Durbin (D -IL) and some of his colleagues in Congress are trying to prevent U.S. law enforcement and intelligence organizations from teaching their personnel about the enemy.
Can you imagine not telling Americans about Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party during World War II? Or failing to teach about Communism during the Cold War?
And yet today, ten years after we were attacked by jihadi Muslims in the name of Islam, Sen. Durbin and his colleagues are trying to ensure that our intelligence and law enforcement professionals will miss the next attack, just as they missed the preparations for 9/11 taking place right here on American soil.
Under Senator Durbin's plan, we will be politically correct - and dead. For that will be the inevitable result of not teaching our intelligence and law enforcement professionals the nature of the enemy that attacked us on 9/11 and continues to plot future attacks on America.
Unlike Senator Durbin, I have actually lived in the Muslim world, and have studied Islam with a mujtahed - a recognized Islamic scholar.
As I wrote in my book Preachers of Hate: Islam and the War on America (Crown Forum, 2003), a struggle is underway for the soul of Islam between those who would revive the jihadi roots of the Koran and the hadith, and those who seek a reformation of Islamic traditions.
The reformists face a difficult battle, since they must walk away from a doctrine of violence, anti-Semitism, and persecution of non-Muslims that is openly expressed in Islam's most sacred texts. The reformists are reviled by hate groups here in the United States and elsewhere who deem them apostates - which is punishable by death! - for not towing to Islamic orthodoxy.
While I certainly wish the reformists every success, we cannot base our national security on hope for a change in Islam.
Instead, we should be teaching law enforcement and intelligence professionals the doctrinal basis for the jihadi movement. They need to understand things such as the doctrine of abrogation, by which earlier "peaceful" statements of the Muslim prophet are cancelled (or "abrogated") by subsequent calls to violence against non-Muslims.
Al Qaeda and like-minded groups who despise our freedoms believe that the call to violent jihad is a "duty" placed upon all Muslims by Islam's own holy texts. We ignore this at our peril.
The New York Police Department and many state law enforcement agencies have turned to recognized Islamic law experts to put together a training curriculum that examines Islamic law by using authoritative Islamic texts.
I have examined much of this course material. Not only is it scrupulously factual; it demonstrates how Islamic concepts are being used by jihadi groups to recruit terrorists in our midst.
But if Senator Durbin gets his way, future generations of our law enforcement and intelligence professionals will be forbidden from learning the truth. Instead, they will be taught that Islam is a "religion of peace" that condemns terrorism, abhors violence, and wants to hold hands with Christians and Jews all night at the campfire.
That is precisely what happened with Major Nidal Hassan. Even though he told his colleagues repeatedly that his Islamic beliefs compelled him to kill Americans, they chose to ignore these warnings for fear of being labeled politically incorrect. Had they taken off their ideological blinders, 13 innocent victims at Fort Hood would be alive with their families today.
Our intelligence and law enforcement professionals are smart enough to understand the difference between the overwhelming majority of ordinary Muslims who do not subscribe to the ideology of Shariah law, and jihadi terrorists like Major Hassan whose goal is to create a world-wide Islamic state based on Shariah.
Muslims are not the problem; Islamic doctrine as exploited by groups such as al Qaeda and the Taliban is. And we need to know as much as we possibly can about that doctrine and how it can be defeated.
Seventeen years ago, along with an Iranian dissident ayatollah, I founded the Foundation for Democracy in Iran (www.iran.org), and have been working with Iranian dissidents ever since.
Iranians have been inoculated against the virus of Shariah law because they were its first victims. Iranian-Americans who fled to this country seeking freedom are among our best allies in this struggle to defeat the jihadi terrorist movement, which is today supported by the regime in Tehran, among others.
So I deny Senator Durbin the authority or the right to speak on behalf of Muslims. I deny him the right to preach about the doctrines of Shariah law. I ask you to join with ACT! For America so together we can defeat his politically-correct crusade against the truth-tellers. The lives of our loved ones depend on it.

Inhofe Floor Speech Mr. President, I rise today to address several questionable actions recently taken by the Obama Environmental Protection Agency to stop domestic energy production - particularly regarding hydraulic fracturing - and my intention is to explain to America what's really going on over at the EPA.
Today I'd like to draw attention to a little known video from 2010, which shows a top EPA official, Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz, using the vivid metaphor of crucifixion to explain EPA's enforcement tactics for oil and gas producers. (see video below)
The war on Christianity and its adherents rages on in the Muslim world. In March alone, Saudi Arabia's highest Islamic law authority decreed that churches in the region must be destroyed; jihadis in Nigeria said they "are going to put into action new efforts to strike fear into the Christians of the power of Islam by kidnapping their women"; American teachers in the Middle East were murdered for being or talking about Christianity; churches were banned or bombed, and nuns terrorized by knife-wielding Muslim mobs. Christians continue to be attacked, arrested, imprisoned, and killed for allegedly "blaspheming" Islam's prophet Muhammad; former Muslims continue to be attacked, arrested, imprisoned, and killed for converting to Christianity.
The U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, released a message April 23 informing U.S. citizens in the country that it had received credible information regarding a possible attack against Nairobi hotels or prominent Kenyan government buildings. According to the message, the embassy has reason to believe the attack is in the last stages of the attack planning cycle.
"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." Sir Winston Churchill
To follow, not lead; to suffer, not prosper; to despair, not dream.
I would start with energy. I'd cut off America's supply of cheap, abundant energy. I couldn't take it by force. So, I'd make Americans feel guilty for using the energy that heats their homes, fuels their cars, runs their businesses, and powers their economy.
The process of hydraulic fracturing is a mining technique which uses injected fluid to propagate fractures in a rock layer to release hydrocarbon deposits that would otherwise be uncommercial. Developed in the U.S. and first used in 1947 for stimulating of oil and natural gas wells, the use of "fracking" soared in the past decade as thousands of wells have been drilled into the Marcellus Formation, also referred to as the Marcellus Shale, a deposit of marine sedimentary rock found in eastern North America.

Washington, D.C., April 24, 2012-Without swift policy changes, America faces unprecedented government spending, debt and taxation in 2013, according to the newly released graphics from The Heritage Foundation's 2012 Federal Budget in Pictures series.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing -after they've tried everything else." Sir Winston Churchill Has anyone read in the newspapers and news media the headline "Islamic Countries agree to stop Spreading Muslim Terrorism throughout the World" -in the last days? You don't think so? Well, you are right. You have not. You couldn't have, simply because it was never published, and that's because Islamic countries have never even intended to stop spreading of Muslim Terrorism. On the contrary.
Israel's Jewish population is approaching six million. If current birth rates hold steady that significant milestone will be reached in time for next year's Independence Day. If there is to be one.
In the sixty-four years that the revived country has existed, there has been a dramatic population shift. Western and Eastern Europe and Russia, where the majority of Western Jews once lived, now hold a fraction of the Jewish population. The Muslim world, former location of the majority of Eastern Jews, is barely worth mentioning.
Globally the Jewish population is divided between Israel and the United States. Israel is the home of the majority of the world's Jews, but the combined Jewish Anglosphere is still larger, not so much because of the United Kingdom, but because of North America, which holds the largest number of Jews. In a development that would have been all but incomprehensible a century ago, the majority of Jews in the world speak English or Hebrew. Smaller numbers speak French and Spanish, but in a generation hardly any will speak Russian or Arabic.
The majority of Jews live in the American Hemisphere. If we subtract Israel, the Eastern Hemisphere would barely muster up ten percent of the Jewish population because its Jews have for the most part either moved to the Western Hemisphere or to Israel.
Israel is the last Jewish outpost in the Eastern Hemisphere. The last significant Jewish populations there are either in the far west, in the United Kingdom and France or legacy populations in Russia and the Ukraine. The latter have no future and the former are dwindling under pressure from the growing Muslim population in Europe.
Over the last century, Jews have been moving West, though not quickly enough to outpace the Nazis and the Communists. The migration has gathered up Middle East Jews and Eastern European Jews, leaving a handful scattered on the Western shores of Europe, while the majority have either rebuilt in Israel or moved on to America, Canada or Latin America.
The central problem with Barack Obama's presidential record is that it is chock full of records - almost all of them painful, harmful, or both. Three likely stark reminders of just how bad the president's record is will arrive just before Election Day.

Bang for your buck: that's what the Freedom Center provides. Ammunition for the culture war against the Left: that's what your contribution buys. Federal debt and spending are spiraling out of control. America is digging itself deeper and deeper in debt, burdening the next generation and America's future.
In an effort to better communicate the crippling problem of debt, The Heritage Foundation has updated its "Federal Budget in Pictures" website to demonstrate visually how runaway taxes and spending are hurting America.
The charts are revealing and capture the disastrous effect of our nation's budget.
"The Automatic IRA offers most employees who are not covered by any form of employer-sponsored retirement plan the opportunity to save through the powerful mechanism of regular payroll deposits that continue automatically," John told members of the House Ways and Means Committee.
This proposed plan would allow workers to save their own funds to supplement Social Security income in retirement, he continued:
While Social Security provides a benefit that is sufficient to meet the retirement income needs of most lower income retirees, it only provides a fairly modest proportion of the retirement income needs of average and above average income retirees. Even if Social Security was fully funded and had all of the resources necessary to pay all of its promised benefits, which it does not, those benefits would still provide only about half of what the average income retiree needs for a comfortable retirement.
Such a program would offer workers and employers an attractive alternative to traditional retirement plans, which are heavily regulated and impose high costs. John also notes that "the Automatic IRA is designed carefully to avoid competing with or crowding out employer plans. "
The federal government artificially inflates sugar prices, putting a limit to how much food manufacturers and consumers within the U.S. can purchase from outside the country. Raw sugar imported beyond the quota is penalized by a prohibitive tariff of 15.36 cents per pound.
This meddling hurts "by driving up the price of sugar, threatening competitive farmers and ranchers by jeopardizing export growth, and weakening the U.S. economy by diverting resources from more competitive uses."
This is, unfortunately, not a new concern. Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman once argued: "There are so many stupid things that government is doing that, clearly, it would be in the self-interest of the public at large to have repealed. Who would-who can really on logical grounds defend sugar quotas?"
April 29 marks the third year that the U.S. Senate has not passed a budget. Now more than ever, it is crucial that Americans understand what our nation's spending, taxes, and debt mean for them and their families and why Congress must urgently get back to budgeting.
The Heritage Foundation's newly released Federal Budget in Pictures 2012 edition (previously called Budget Chart Book) offers a unique tool to learn about the federal budget in a clear and compelling way.
From the moment that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, America learned that it is not an impenetrable fortress protected by thousands of miles of ocean, and on September 11, we were tragically reminded of that fact. Likewise, there is a new kind of threat to the United States that knows no territorial boundaries, but this one travels neither by land, by sea or by air. It's the threat to America's cyber security, and today Congress has the opportunity to do something about it.
Whether you know it or not, hackers are busy at work all around the world striking the United States via the Internet in an attempt to steal valuable intellectual property and sensitive information. Using the same methods, these perpetrators of cyber espionage could attack the critical infrastructure that keeps America running, such as the nation's power grid and water supply.
The New Inquisition against Scientists Who Disagree with Theories that Have the Support of the Government and Tax Dollars
by Gary DeMar
In 2006, then climate change enthusiast James Lovelock believed that "before this century is over billions of us will die and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic where the climate remains tolerable." The 92-year-old scientist is now in the recanting phase of his life. He admits that some of the language in his 2006 book Revenge of Gaia had been over the top. He admits that if he were writing today he would be more cautious.
It's a little late now that laws are being implemented to curtail what was said to be "scientific fact."
More than a century ago, John William Draper made the unsupported claim that scientific "opinions on every subject are continually liable to modification, from the irresistible advance of human knowledge."[1] This wasn't true then and it's not true today.
In reality, many new scientific theories are often opposed by scientists for any number of reasons. There is continued scientific debate over the causes or even the reality of human-caused global warming, whether oil is a "fossil" fuel or a renewable abiotic resource,[2] the medical benefits of embryonic stem-cells, and much more. A lot of it has to do with grant money.
It was bad enough when, more than 3 years ago, President Obama ratcheted up government spending and the debt with his $831 billion stimulus package, while promising to create jobs and boost economic growth here in America. But now, we're finding out that billions of those stimulus dollars were actually spent helping "green energy" companies overseas!
More than 13 million Americans are unemployed, with thousands more dropping out of the workforce each month. But rather than helping Americans, the Obama Administration is working to create "green jobs" in foreign countries!
Let's take a look at some stimulus "green energy" highlights:
$2.3 billion in tax credits went to create jobs in foreign countries.
$1.2 billion went to a solar energy company to help finance a new plant in Mexico.
$500 million to an electric car company which created hundreds of jobs in Finland.
Tens of millions of dollars to build traffic lights in China.
These are your stimulus dollars at work and Americans for Prosperity is working hard to bring this unmitigated outrage to light with our most recent television ad, which will run in 8 key states. Click here to see the ad when it goes live at 2:30ET! (http://americansforprosperity.org/stoptankingamerica)
The television ad will only be the beginning. AFP will be pushing hard on all fronts (social media, grassroots events, etc.) to ensure that every American knows that we must put grassroots pressure on President Obama for his disastrous economic policies. At 1:30ET today, AFP will be hosting a live press conference in Washington, D.C., to roll out the new television ad as well as our grassroots efforts, and you can watch live via Facebook webcast. Click here to see the press conference live! (http://americansforprosperity.org/stoptankingamerica)
Thousands of you joined our No Stimulus efforts before the stimulus passed in 2009. Now, take action once again, and tell President Obama to Stop Tanking America! (http://americansforprosperity.org/stoptankingamerica) The President promised to fight for hardworking Americans, but instead, he's stood in the way of projects that would create thousands of American jobs and reduce energy costs. Tell President Obama that American tax dollars should help American taxpayers!
We cannot allow reckless government spending to go unchecked, particularly when the money goes overseas. Spread the word. Tell your family, your friends, your neighbors, and anyone who will listen about this Administration's lack of regard for American jobs and the American economy. And "Like" AFP on Facebook at www.facebook.com/fightback (http://www.facebook.com/fightback), so you can share AFP's ad via social media. Together, let's expose the hypocrisy of the stimulus dollars sent overseas.
Sincerely,
Tim Phillips

With the help of a Democrat cheerleader media Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is trying to invent some new "truths" about the price of gas - well kind of. Speaking to a gathering at the National Press Club in Washington recently Salazar repeated the tired Democrat line that the President has little control over the price of gasoline.
Using child-like simple syntax so his media friends could take his words down and report them just as the Administration wants them presented, Salazar said, "No one has the ability. Not even Harry Potter to simply wave a magic wand to say we are going to have gas prices at $2 or $2.50."
U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black was elected in 2003. Posted on the official U.S. Senate website is: "Chaplain's Office - Throughout the years, the United States Senate has honored the historic separation of Church and State, but not the separation of God and State. The first Senate, meeting in New York City on APRIL 25, 1789, elected the Right Reverend Samuel Provost, the Episcopal Bishop of New York, as its first Chaplain. During the past two hundred and seven years, all sessions of the Senate have been opened with prayer, strongly affirming the Senate's faith in God as Sovereign Lord of our Nation." This was a continuation of the practice of the Continental Congress during the Revolution, as Ben Franklin remarked in 1787: "In the beginning of the Contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger, we had daily prayer in this room for ... Crime Think You Know George Zimmerman? This New Timeline and Profile Could Change the Perception (and the Case)
April 26, 2012 Jonathon M. Seidl
George Zimmerman
When the Trayvon Martin case first started garnering national attention, there were many that thought they knew who George Zimmerman was: an overzealous racist with a vendetta against young black men who was on a mission to assert power with his gun. But then little details started emerging, such as pictures of Zimmerman's bloody head that could bolster his self-defense claim; CNN even backtracked and said the tape it once suggested showed Zimmerman uttering a racist slur was actually him most likely saying it was "cold."
And now, Reuters has put together a detailed profile of Zimmerman that seems to suggest he was a concerned citizen that was trying to help fix his community and those in it reeling from recent crime. He was a compassionate neighbor, it seems, not a lunatic with a gun.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 194 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS
"Crucify Them!"
Ever since President Obama took office, conservatives, business executives and industry leaders have complained that he has an anti-business, anti-free market, anti-energy agenda. Remember Obama's constant bashing of Wall Street and the financial industry? Remember Obama's outrageous statement that doctors were cutting off people's feet for profit? Remember top White House officials repeatedly saying they were going to put a "boot on the neck of BP?"
Well if we needed more evidence of this administration's mindset, we got it yesterday. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), the ranking Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, announced that he was launching an investigation into the comments of Al Armendariz, an EPA regional administrator.
Here's how Armendariz during a speech described his approach to regulating America's oil and natural gas companies:
"I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement... I'll go ahead and tell you what I said: It was kind of like how the Romans used to ... conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They'd go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw and they'd crucify them. Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years. It's a deterrent factor."
Inhofe is not only investigating these outrageous comments, but he is also demanding answers from EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson regarding a series of equally outrageous public statements and emergency orders aimed at restricting new high tech drilling efforts. The U.S. has made tremendous gains in domestic energy exploration in recent years, thanks entirely to the work of our private energy industry and some remarkable technological breakthroughs, including hydraulic fracturing. But the Obama Administration is aggressively trying to limit the practice.
On Fox News this morning, Inhofe blasted Obama for speaking out of both sides of his mouth. The senator said, "Let's keep in mind, this is all a part of Obama's war on domestic energy. He's the one who said that we have good natural gas and it's plentiful and all of that but we've got to stop hydraulic fracturing. This is the war on hydraulic fracturing. ...So it's an attempt to try to satisfy both sides. He's whispering to the left ... then he's saying to the public at the same time that we are for natural gas and all that."
Senator Inhofe is right. This administration is driven by hostility toward America's most successful industries and businesses. And, of course, it is filled with haters of fossil fuel.
Let me remind folks again -- ignore Obama's rhetoric and focus on his record. Forget about Obama's claim that "We're drilling all over the place." Look at what he has done:
The first thing Obama's Interior Secretary did when he took office was cancel scores of drilling leases. This is the same man, by the way, who as a senator filibustered a bill to allow more domestic drilling -- even if gasoline reached $10 a gallon!
The number of operational rigs in the Gulf of Mexico was cut in half after the 2010 BP spill. Why? Because of an Obama drilling ban that held up scores of permits.
Since Obama took office, drilling has declined on federal lands. A March 14th report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration noted, "Total sales of all fossil fuels produced on Federal and Indian lands ... dropped by about 6 percent between FY 2010 and FY 2011." [Emphasis added.]
Obama's Energy Secretary once advocated $8.00-a-gallon gasoline.
A Harvard study estimated that Obama's cap and trade scheme could have resulted in $7.00-a-gallon gasoline.
Barack Obama blocked the Keystone XL pipeline that would bring in more oil from friendly Canada.
He said he wants to bankrupt the coal industry, which he admits will cause electricity rates to "necessarily skyrocket."
My friends, if you haven't yet seen the video "If I Wanted America To Fail," please watch it now and then share it with your friends and family members. America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama!
High Court Takes Up Illegal Immigration
The justices of the United States Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday on Arizona's tough anti-illegal immigration law known as SB 1070. The law allows police officers to check the immigration status of individuals who have been detained for other offenses.
The Arizona law is overwhelmingly popular. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that 68% of registered voters support the law, while just 27% opposed it. Hispanic voters were narrowly divided with 47% in favor to 49% against.
The Obama Administration, however, sued to block implementation of the law, arguing that immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility with virtually no role for the states. Historically, the courts have adopted that view.
But the Roberts court has shifted somewhat towards expanding state authority. Last year in a 5-to-3 decision, the court upheld another Arizona law that revoked business licenses for companies that repeatedly hired illegal immigrants.
And according to various press reports, the justices appeared likely to uphold SB 1070 too. As MSNBC noted, "The justices strongly suggested Wednesday they are not buying the Obama administration's argument that the state exceeded its authority" and "even some of the court's liberal justices seemed to find no strong objection."
And while I would be surprised if Justice Sonia Sotomayor ruled in favor of SB 1070, she was nevertheless especially critical of the administration's lawyer, Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli, Jr. At one point Sotomayor, who once deemed herself a "wise Latina woman," said of Verrilli's argument against the Arizona law, "General, I'm terribly confused by your answer," and added, "You can see it's not selling very well."
Jobless Claims Drop, But Numbers Rise
I'm beginning to think that the bureaucrats who track our employment statistics need to take a crash course in remedial math. Once again, the administration is reporting a drop in weekly claims for unemployment benefits. And, once again, the numbers don't add up because the previous week's figures were first revised upward.
This week, claims for unemployment benefits reportedly dropped by 1,000 to 388,000. But last week's figures were revised up from 386,000 to 389,000. So claims didn't really fall by 1,000, they're up by 2,000!
One frustrated economist commented, "We seem to be chasing our tail ... with seemingly reported declines in weekly numbers coming from persistently higher levels week-after-week. Today's reading also gives the uncomfortable drift upwards in initial claims the feel of a trend rather than aberration."
Speaking Of Unemployment Benefits...
Liberal Democrat Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) made a startling prediction last night on Al Sharpton's MSNBC show. Rep. Fattah suggested that Barack Obama would benefit politically from high unemployment. Here's what he said: "...those people who are unemployed, they're not going to be voting for the party who wants to cut their benefits, cut access to food stamps, cut job training."
Rep. Fattah's statement was very revealing. He hopes that Obama is buying enough votes to win. I hope the taxpayers who are paying for all these things won't vote for the party that wants to further raise their taxes so it can redistribute more of their hard-earned income. Yet another reminder of why we must win in November!
A Bleak Future for Medicare Without Real Reform
On September 8, 2011-well after the enactment of Obamacare-President Obama told Congress: "Millions of Americans rely on Medicare in their retirement. And millions more will do so in the future.... But with an aging population and rising health care costs, we are spending too fast to sustain the program. And if we don't gradually reform the system while protecting current seniors, it won't be there when future retirees need it." The just released 2012 Medicare Trustees report reinforces the need for serious reform. But seniors and taxpayers alike should keep three things in mind:
The short-term outlook of the Hospital Insurance (HI) Trust Fund says nothing about the long-term financial challenge posed by the Medicare program. HI Trust fund insolvency, focused only on hospital payments, is only one marker of Medicare's fiscal health. The central fiscal challenge facing Medicare is not the HI Trust Fund; it is the dramatic growth in Medicare spending and the accumulation of massive debt.
The President's Medicare agenda will not solve Medicare's central problems. While Obamacare will impose record-breaking payment reductions on providers, yielding $575 billion in savings in the initial 10 years of the law, this blunt strategy guarantees either access problems for seniors or failure to control costs.
Expanding real competition is the only sound solution to Medicare's deepening problems. Injecting intense competition into the financing and delivery of care, based on the experience of both programs, means that Medicare will have a better future: expanding access to plans, providers, and benefits while controlling costs.
In the Heritage fiscal reform proposal Saving the American Dream, the Medicare premium support program would both enhance the solvency of the Medicare program and achieve a balanced budget in 10 years, maintaining that balance indefinitely. In contrast, the President's proposed budget would never get to balance, and the Medicare program would deteriorate. Read the full post on The Foundry >>

House approves cybersecurity bill over Obama veto threat By Pete Kasperowicz
The House on Thursday approved controversial cybersecurity legislation that the Obama administration has threatened to veto.
Members approved the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection (CISPA) act, H.R. 3523, in a 248-168 vote that split both parties somewhat. The bill was supported by 42 Democrats, while 28 Republicans opposed it.
The House approved the bill after making a number of changes aimed at limiting the way the government could use the information that companies provide.
Boehner: Obama should pay back taxpayers for campaign costs By Russell Berman
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday called on President Obama's campaign to reimburse taxpayers for the cost of a campaign-style trip to battleground states, accusing the White House of a "pathetic" attempt to stir up an election-year fight over student loans.
"This week the president traveled across the country on taxpayers' dime at a cost of $179,000 an hour insisting the Congress fix a problem that we were already working on. Frankly, I think this is beneath the dignity of the White House," Boehner said at the outset of his weekly Capitol press briefing.
Based on extensive interviews with relatives, friends, neighbors, schoolmates and co-workers of Zimmerman in two states, law enforcement officials, and reviews of court documents and police reports, the story sheds new light on the man at the center of one of the most controversial homicide cases in America.
The 28-year-old insurance-fraud investigator comes from a deeply Catholic background and was taught in his early years to do right by those less fortunate. He was raised in a racially integrated household and himself has black roots through an Afro-Peruvian great-grandfather - the father of the maternal grandmother who helped raise him.
A criminal justice student who aspired to become a judge, Zimmerman also concerned himself with the safety of his neighbors after a series of break-ins committed by young African-American men.
Though civil rights demonstrators have argued Zimmerman should not have prejudged Martin, one black neighbor of the Zimmermans said recent history should be taken into account.
"Let's talk about the elephant in the room. I'm black, OK?" the woman said, declining to be identified because she anticipated backlash due to her race. She leaned in to look a reporter directly in the eyes. "There were black boys robbing houses in this neighborhood," she said. "That's why George was suspicious of Trayvon Martin."
Duh.
Anyway, so now Zimmerman might be okay because he's partly black himself? This continues the disgusting pattern of determining guilt or innocence based on Racial Status. I'm glad for Zimmerman that this bit of genetic inheritance might help him -- but is this what America is now? Essentially deciding guilt or innocence by a racial mitichlorian count?
Why did the media push a story so completely at variance with the picture Reuters paints of Zimmerman in this extensive profile? My guess is a combination of the hunger for sensationalism, a political agenda, and pure laziness. There was a time when such a major story would have called for more shoe leather, and less reliance upon press releases from interested parties.
Oh, let me offer a couple of more reasons:
Despite the fact that the media claims to be above the blogs, they do in fact consume and trust blogs -- Leftwing blogs. Although we on the right think we've done something awesome when we push a true story into the MSM, leftwing blogs have far, far more influence on the media. After all-- they can get false stories into the MSM.
And cowardice. You know the "elephant in the room" that black woman mentioned? Yeah, the media -- brave and dauntless in its pursuit of truth -- is too cowardly to mention slightly discomforting facts, like the pattern of robberies committed by teenaged black boys in the neighborhood.
Well, the news is finally out: The entire narrative of the Trayvon Martin case we first heard from the mainstream media was fake - one that had been written long ago and was just waiting for an event that would allow journalists to fill in the blanks and publish. A narrative specifically designed to stir up racial division and, intentionally or not, feed the truly insane racial theories of the Nation of Islam and their Islamist allies, such as the New Black Panther Party, which seek to replace "white" American law with "black" Islamic law.
Furthermore, MSNBC's Al Sharpton leapt into the fray to make sure that hatred toward George Zimmerman and the "white" legal system that protected him became a matter of racial identity, which will be sure to leave a ugly residue of anti-Americanism and racial resentment for a long time, regardless of the facts.
Don't expect any apologies from the New Black Panther Party leaders Malik Zulu Shabazz, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, King Samir Shabazz, or Mikhail Mohammed, for posting "Wanted - Dead or Alive" signs for George Zimmerman, offering a $20,000 reward. Instead, remember what Mikhail Mohammed said as he justified the bounty on Zimmerman's head: "I don't obey the white man's law, I don't follow the American law."

George Zimmerman, center, speaks with his attorney Mark O'Mara during an April 20 bond hearing at the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Fla.
By Reuters
SANFORD, Fla. -- A pit bull named Big Boi began menacing George and Shellie Zimmerman in the fall of 2009.
The first time the dog ran free and cornered Shellie in their gated community in Sanford, Fla., George called the owner to complain. The second time, Big Boi frightened his mother-in-law's dog. Zimmerman called Seminole County Animal Services and bought pepper spray. The third time he saw the dog on the loose, he called again. An officer came to the house, county records show.
"Don't use pepper spray," he told the Zimmermans, according to a friend. "It'll take two or three seconds to take effect, but a quarter second for the dog to jump you," he said.
"Get a gun."
That November, the Zimmermans completed firearms training at a local lodge and received concealed-weapons gun permits. In early December, another source close to them told Reuters, the couple bought a pair of guns. George picked a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm handgun, a popular, lightweight weapon.
By June 2011, Zimmerman's attention had shifted from a loose pit bull to a wave of robberies that rattled the community, called the Retreat at Twin Lakes. The homeowners association asked him to launch a neighborhood watch, and Zimmerman would begin to carry the Kel-Tec on his regular, dog-walking patrol -- a violation of neighborhood watch guidelines but not a crime.
Few of his closest neighbors knew he carried a gun -- until two months ago.
Vice President Biden has attacked Mitt Romney as "fundamentally wrong" and "totally out of touch" on foreign policy. That's rich coming for Biden, who has been wrong on virtually every important foreign policy issue as far back as anyone can remember.
Biden had the wrong line on the Cold War, as we'll see below. He also opposed the successful Gulf War, while supporting (at the time of decision) the much more problematic subequent one. While I wouldn't say that Biden was wrong to support the second war with Iraq, he quickly came to think so. Eventually, he floated a harebrained plan to partition Iraq, on the theory that the country could not be salvaged. But it was salvaged, and Al Qaeda in Iraq trounced, by the surge, which Biden vigorously opposed.
I could go on, but let's return to Clueless Joe's attack on Romney. Speaking with his typical level of sophistication, Biden told a NYU audience that "Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive; if Governor Romney had been president, could he have used the same slogan in reverse?"
The answer is no. Romney would not have called off, or modified, the hunt for Bin Laden. Moreover, no competent leader would have nixed the plan to take out Osama. Joe Biden would have, but that only proves my point. The notion that President Obama made a difficult decision plays only in the spineless world of foreign policy "realism" and "smart power" where Biden resides. That's not Romney territory, thank goodness.
Biden also criticized Romney for having a "Cold War mindset." Here, he was referring to Romney's view that Russia represents a threat to the U.S. and to references to the Russians as "the Soviets."
The latter represent a slip of the tongue, of course, something that Biden should know a thing or two about. And to dismiss Romney's concerns about Russia as symptomatic of a Cold War mindset reflects a lack of sophistication that would be shocking in anyone other than Joe Biden.
The end of War World I did not mean that Germany could never again pose a threat to the U.S. Similarly, the end of the Cold War does not mean that Russia represents no threat. To be sure, it is not now the threat it once was, and Romney has never suggested otherwise. But it reflects no improper mindset to resist the kind of kowtowing to Russia that Obama has engaged in, much less to be concerned about Vladimir Putin's Russia. Putin's combination of ambition and authoritarianism is almost always threatening when manifested in a country of Russia's size and importance. If Biden possessed a passing familiarity with history, he would understand this.
In any event, no one can accuse Biden of having a Cold War mindset - not even during the Cold War. As Seth Mandel points out, Biden consistently opposed the policies of President Reagan (nuclear modernization and the strategic defense initiative) that former Soviet officials say convinced them that the arms race was unwinnable.
Serious debate over foreign policy differences should be an important part of the 2012 campaign. Such a debate may occur, but not if Joe Biden participates.
Our friend Susan Vass is a gifted comedian who grew up, if I recall correcly, in Alexandria, Minnesota. She forwards a column with the explanation that "to keep my head from exploding about Israel, I wrote this to amuse myself." She files her comments under the heading, "This Is the Last Straw." She writes:
In Woody Allen's last amusing picture, Bananas (1971), the insane banana republic dictator decrees after attaining power, "From now on the official language will be Swedish. Everyone will wear their underwear on the outside."
In the regulatory hell we now live in where bureaucrats are engaged in a daily game of "Can You Top This?", where trans fats are banned, children's lemonade stands are raided and little girls who rescue birds are billed $500, you would think that the hundreds of czars and busybodies would be out of ideas. But you would be wrong.
Now comes the Department of Labor with proposed new regs forbidding farm children to do chores on their own farms. Seriously.
All my farm kid friends could drive cars by 5, tractors by 7 or 8 and big machinery by junior high. They could milk cows by hand or machine, and build a barn in a long weekend. They were more creative, more confident, more disciplined than us lazy slacker town kids who didn't know how to raise a cow up from a baby cow (called a "calf" in farm talk).
True, many were Bitter Clingers. Maybe something about being that close to Nature and rebirth and seasons made them God-fearing. Plus they did need Guns to get rid of various varmints.
What motivated the parasitical overpaid gubmint drones to come up with this latest outrage? Weren't they busy enough planning Conferences with Clowns? Downloading porn on government time? Worrying about whether or not they were part of the government employees who owe more than a billion dollars in back taxes?
Too much time on their hands, or was it something simpler?
Their desire to control every aspect of your and your children's lives is a given. The government will tell you how to pack your kid's lunch, thank you. Guidelines: include nothing he would actually eat.
Were the regulators also jealous because farm kids were the last cohort of children that wasn't lard-butt obese? That might hurt the self-esteem of non-farm kids.
Perhaps they were hoping that, if children couldn't legally do chores, that the farmers would be forced to hire migrant labor that would bring in more Democrat voters. Too many Mexicans are going home because there's less work.
If Americans don't fight THIS, if we don't draw a line in the sand HERE, then it's over. We should send the Statue of Liberty back to France. In her place, erect a giant Mary Poppins statue, umbrella and all, squatting in Nanny Bloomberg's harbor. No more huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Yearning leads to striving and we can't have that because it leads to disparate outcomes; huddling is bad for your posture; and breathing - free or otherwise - produces carbon dioxide which will harm Gaia.

Sen. Richard Lugar trails conservative challenger Richard Mourdock by a margin of five points - 44 to 39 - according to a new poll by Wenzel Strategies. The poll was conducted for Citizens United, a group that supports Mourdock.
According to the poll, self-described Tea Party conservatives back Mourdock by 63 to 24. This cohort represents 36 of those polled. Lugar leads among those in the remainder of the sample. Nearly 17 percent remain undecided with less than two weeks to go until the primary.
With this many undecided voters, and with the candidates running close (the margin of error in the Wetzel poll is 5 percentage points), this race seems too close to call. But this poll suggests that Mourdock has the edge.
Personally, I favor Mourdock, a seemingly able man and the more conservative candidate by a considerable margin. Although the Democrats say they would prefer to run against Mourdock, probably with good reason, Indiana is sufficiently conservative, I believe, to elect him.
The Claremont Review's Charles Kesler once quipped that "Social Darwinism" is the only kind of Darwinism that liberals oppose, and there is a lot to this, starting with the fact that, as I argued here a few days ago, liberals are the true Social Darwinists of modern times. Eldon Eisenach, one of the more interesting historians to have written about Progressivism in recent decades, noted in the early 1990s that "We have wrongly taught that 'social Darwinism' is inherently conservative, just as 'rights talk' is inherently liberal. Progressives, from the most scientific-technocratic to the most radical-socialist, conceived of their projects as having coherence and meaning because they were located within a social evolutionary framework."
One of my faithful correspondents suggested I say a bit more about William Graham Sumner, one of the purported "conservative" Social Darwinists of the 19th century. Certainly Sumner is "conservative" in some ordinary senses of the word, but not when it comes to understanding or supporting the American political tradition, or the principles of the American Founding, which he openly and forcefully rejected. Consider, for example, this passage from Sumner:
It does not appear that anybody payed any attention to the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence when it was written or that anybody except Thomas Paine then held to the dogmas of democracy.
To argue such is blithely to ignore not only the narrow issue of the close attention paid to the wording and terms of the Declaration's prologue when it was being written in 1776, but also the many parallel passages found in the state constitutions of the time (such as, for example, the Virginia Declaration of Rights) that would suggest that great attention was paid to the meaning of the Declaration's prologue. Having rejected the substantive end of natural right spelled out in the Declaration, Sumner goes on to make the now-familiar argument that the Constitution is a mere instrumentality:
The Constitution of 1787 is also remarkable, considering the time at which it was framed, for containing no dogmatic utterances about liberty and equality and no enunciation of great principles. Indeed this was made a ground of complaint against it by the leaders of the popular party; they missed the dogmatic utterances to which they had become accustomed during the war and they forced the passage of the first ten amendments. Even then, however, the Constitution contained no declaration of rights, but was simply a working system of government.
What Lincoln identified as the central "proposition" of the American regime-"an abstract truth applicable to all men at all times"-Sumner dismisses as a "dogmatic utterance." To the contrary, Sumner asserted in a passage that could nearly be attributed to Holmes or Pound or another Progressive positivist:
There are no dogmatic propositions of political philosophy which are universally and always true; there are views which prevail, at a time, for a while, and then fade away and give place to other views. . . The eighteenth century notions about equality, natural rights, classes, etc., produced nineteenth century states and legislation, and strongly humanitarian in faith and temper; at the present time the eighteenth century notions are disappearing, and the mores of the twentieth century will not be tinged by humanitarianism as those of the last hundred years have been. If the State should act on ideas of every man's duty, instead of on notions of natural rights, evidently institutions and usages would undergo a great transformation.
Sumner also implicitly endorses Chief Justice Roger Taney's view of the Declaration in the Dred Scott case:
But no man ever yet asserted that 'all men are equal,' meaning what he said. Although he said, 'all men,' he had in mind some limitation of the group he was talking about. Thus, if you asked Thomas Jefferson, when he was writing the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, whether in 'all men' he meant to include negroes, he would have said that he was not talking about negroes. Ask anybody who says it now whether he means to include foreigners-Russian Jews, Hungarians, Italians-and he will draw his line somewhere . . . Now, if we draw the line at all, the dogma is ruined.
Again, I guess when Sumner says "no man ever yet asserted that 'all men are created equal,' meaning what he said," he must have never heard of that obscure fellow named Abraham Lincoln.
From here it is but a short hop, skip, and a jump to Woodrow Wilson's very similar views, such as this from his 1908 book Constitutional Government in the United States:
The government of the United States was constructed upon the Whig theory of political dynamics, which was a sort of unconscious copy of the Newtonian theory of the universe. In our own day, whenever we discuss the structure or development of anything, whether in nature or in society, we consciously or unconsciously follow Mr. Darwin . . . The trouble with the [Newtonian] theory is that government is not a machine, but a living thing . . . Living political constitutions must be Darwinian in structure and in practice.
Too bad he's such a lousy president. That is the message of this video, produced by American Crossroads: after four years of a celebrity president, how are we doing? Not so well:
The video is aimed mostly at young people, who have probably suffered more than anyone else from Obama's maladministration. Everything I hear from young people tells me that, come November, the Democrats will be shocked at how little good will-let alone enthusiasm-is left over from 2008.
