Barak to Panetta: What is your bottom line for Iran?
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report April 20, 2012

Notwithstanding the hugs and personal friendship, Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak arrived in Washington Thursday April 19 to tax his host, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, with tough questions about the administration's dialogue with Iran. They followed the lines of, "What's going on? Is there a deal? Don't tell me what you have settled with the Iranians, just your minimal demands, your bottom line."
The questions reflected Israel's concern at being kept in the dark about US-Iranian back-track negotiations and American concessions, including President Barak Obama's willingness to yield on full transparency and international nuclear watchdog inspections at Iran's nuclear sites.

debkafile reports: The Israeli minister had come to ask for the truth from Panetta's own lips on the urgent instructions of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who himself had just received worried phone calls from French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister David Cameron. They wanted to find out how far Washington had gone in concessions to Iran. You Israelis have more clout in Washington than us, they said. You have to try and stop the downhill decline. Concern was also registered from Berlin.

Monday, April 23, 2012  6:00pm

  • Islamic Apartheid and Islamization actively engage in the erasure of the customs, norms and laws of any country or region in order to purely reflect Islamic sentiment. This can be done through political pressure the ultimate goal of Islamization is and has been achieved... by violent Jihad, and finally through political pressure for peace, which in Islam can only come under Shari'a rule.

Resist and stand up against Islamic Apartheid and Islamization. Those who defend Islamic Apartheid and Islamization are those who fight against Freedom and Liberty.

TUSIF defends the rights of everyone - women, gays, religious minorities, Muslims who are figuratively and physically imprisoned by Shari'a and Islam.

This event is a universal symbol of support and encouragement for those victims with no voice. This event is a victory for them.

Resist the deception of the creeping Shari'a and the Islamization of the West and around the world.

Look to the chaos that is Europe under the overwhelming crawl of Shari'a. The unwise in America are only those who do not pay attention to the future that is on the horizon in Europe. Muslims and non Muslims are suffereing there, and here.

Muslims are being behaeded, purposely drowned, and murdered in honor killings many times over here in the United States and Canada.

Will you look the other way, or resist?

    TUSIF resists.

Brownshirts at Temple University Attempt to Shut Down Free Speech

The subversive tactics of our enemies are boundless and extreme. Calling evil good and good evil, they strategically seek to seduce our young people to doctrines of demons. Our youth, like any generation needs something to desperately believe in and hold onto. Taught from a young age that God doesn't matter, because if He does exist, he works through evolution, as if he wound a clock billions of years ago and lets it tick without any intervention or laws to govern how we should live. So when seducing spirits like these come along, or pick your flavor of seducing spirits, they come in many flavors, shapes and sizes, the youth have no truth to stand on, because of course, that was abandoned with the whole idea that their is a loving Creator that watches over us all, and in Him we live and breath and have our being. So they often are prone to believe and act upon lies. -W.E.

AtlasShrugs

Fresh on the heels of the announcement by the Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom of an Islamic Apartheid Conference April 23 at Temple University, a program exposing the suffering of millions of women and non-Muslims living under the oppression and subjugation of the sharia and debunking the vile lies and blood libels spread about the state of Israel by Islamic supremacists and their lapdog apologists (Israel Apartheid Week), comes the army of haters -- stormtroopers and brownshirts instructed to disrupt and shut down these meetings of freedom's defenders and human rights activists, as if on cue.

This is what we have come to expect from the fascists at America's colleges and universities. Subversives (like Bill Ayers) and jihadists (like CAIR and Reza Aslan) are welcomed and paid handsomely, but voices for freedom and human rights activists are hunted down and silenced like ..... dissidents.
The colleges and universities are a snapshot of what America will look like in just a few years if you don't stand up and go on the offense.

The young, brave student leader, Álvaro Enrique Watson of Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom, which is organizing the DHFC event, writes:
The protests are being organized, yet again, against "the biggest bigots in the world and at Temple University." Once again, the opportunists are using side-bar issues/events (Trayvon Martin, and a couple of others, whom you guys all know about) to advance and fuel their protest.
Here is their Goebbels propaganda. Fitting on Holocaust Remembrance day, is it not? Funny (not) how they cite the honor killing by her family of Shaima Alawadi as a "hate crime" when that libel has long been exposed by law enforcement. If you are in the neighborhood, come and stand for freedom. 13th street entrance to Ritter Hall (Near 13th and Cecil B Moore)

"On Monday April 23rd Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom is hosting a gathering of racist, Islamophobic bigots. The event is titled the "Islamic Apartheid Conference" and features Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, among others. Join Occupy Temple, the International Socialist Organization, Students for Justice in Palestine, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and other community and student organizations in a counter-protest to condemn their outrageous hate speech

In the wake of the recent hate crime/murder of Shaima Alawadi (32 year-old Iraqi-Muslim, and mother of 5 children), the wrongful imprisonment of Tarek Mehanna, the murder of Trayvon Martin, and the constant demonization, criminalization, and crimes against Black, Latino, and other oppressed communities throughout the country, among unending wars against Arab and Muslim countries, we must organize a multi-racial fightback against these racist hatemongers.

More information on Geller, Spencer, and David Horowitz:

Geller is known to her fans and critics alike as "Queen of the Muslim Bashers." Geller referred to the moderate Sufi Muslims of the proposed Park 51 Islamic Community Center as "Islamic supremacists" and writes that "societies are disintegrating as adherents of a radical, intolerant ideology run amok with no respect for Western rule of law." Her views are by no means within the boundaries of reasonable debate; the Southern Poverty Law Center considers her an extremist and calls her public statements "hate speech." Moreover, Anders Breivik (far right fanatic who killed close to 100 people in Norway last Summer) had an affection for Geller's blog, Atlas Shrugged and Spencer's Jihad Watch.

Robert Spencer runs Jihad Watch, an anti-Muslim website dedicated to the argument that Islam is an inherently terrorist religion. Spencer holds the view that "traditional Islam contains violent and supremacist elements," and that "its various schools unanimously teach warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers." Jihad Watch is associated with the David Horowitz Freedom Center, another anti-Muslim group which uses McCarthyist tactics to attack academic freedom around the country. Not surprisingly, the event Monday is sponsored by David Horowitz!"

We have the opportunity to change business as usual in Harrisburg April 24th and remove the biggest obstacle to real reform in Pennsylvania

Roger Howard is challenging Dominic Pileggi in the April 24th primary

Character and Integrity are more than words;  they are a way of life, and Roger Howard will be guided by his convictions and not by the union-greedy, selfish, wasteful agenda. Roger will be a big step towards restoring sanity to the way business is conducted in Harrisburg.  His first step was to signed a pledge to NOT take a state pension. He wants to serve, not be served.

Our elected officials have fallen back on old habits and are allowing unions and money toinfluence and control the agenda. Instead of real reform in Pennsylvania, all we get are crumbs  -- a few bits of crust to keep us quiet, to keep us feeling like they are doing what we elected them to do.

We can send a loud message that we will no longer allow special interests to come before the taxpayers' interests.

Yes, I believe Roger Howard has the moral fortitude to work for the taxpayer and not for special interest.

I am supporting Roger Howard because I believe in him. He is not a career politician willing to sacrifice his integrity for his own self-interest.

Please take a few minutes to listen to Roger's radio interview and you-tube video

http://wche.podomatic.com/ (Please scroll to the April 3rd date to hear this interview)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6REWvouVS0

"We are going to get back to our roots and be the party of fiscal responsibility and integrity."

Dominic Pileggi is the poster child for what is wrong with our elected officials.  As the Senate Majority Leader, he has the clout and influence to move bills forward that will do something to ease our deficit, to reform pension and prevailing wage laws.  All it takes is a minor adjustment to both bills and we could reverse this dangerous course for our state. But we must have the leadership to get this accomplished.

That's why I am working so hard to get Roger Howard elected.  I believe in him, I believe he is a man of integrity and character:  an Army Veteran of the 82nd Airborne, jump-qualified;  a man with a PhD in Chemistry, who has a patent that ensures medicines are safely packaged;  a man who knows about business; and a man who studies the bills and sees the added wasted line-items that only increase our deficit and waste taxpayer money.

Please vote for Roger Howard  Pennsylvania State Senate 9th District on April 24th.

Tea party "appalled" by Welch ad

Tuesday, 17 April 2012

Written by Tim McNulty

On their touchstone tax day, Pittsburgh-area tea party groups are pushing back on an ad from GOP US Senate candidate Steve Welch saying he has the support of "grassroots Republicans."

"I was astounded and appalled that someone who claims to be a legitimate candidate would make an incredible claim," Pittsburgh tea party leader Patti Weaver, of Fox Chapel, said in a statement emailed to reporters today. " The citizens of Pennsylvania deserve candidates who maintain a standard of truth in advertising standard.  We call on Mr. Rob Gleason to denounce this ridiculous advertisement by Mr. Welch."

While the Republican establishment, including Gov. Tom Corbett, is behind Welch most tea party support has gone to former state Rep. Sam Rohrer.

A letter Weaver and other tea party organizers sent to state GOP chair Rob Gleason...:

Dear Chairman Gleason:

As tea party organizers, we can tell you that the grassroots movement does not support Steve Welch as indicated in your new advertisement.  Steve Welch voted for Barack Obama and lacks the political gravitas needed for the job of U.S. Senator.

At a meet the candidate event on Sunday, April 1, Steve was asked why he voted for Barack Obama.  Initially, Steve said he was a lifelong Republican and he voted for McCain.  Yet, when pushed, Steve admitted that he switched parties and he voted for Obama in the primary.  So, contrary to his initial response, Steve Welch is not a lifelong Republican and he did vote for Barack Obama.

The statement in your new advertisement that Steve Welch is supported by the grassroots is flat out not true, neither is your statement that the grassroots Republicans have overwhelmingly endorsed Steve Welch.  Please review your numbers from the State Committee meeting and you will see that roughly 33% of those in attendance did not support endorsing anyone.  Also, those who consider themselves Grassroots at the State Committee either voted to not endorse, abstained to choose a candidate to endorse or voted for someone other than Steve Welch.

We formally ask that you do not air this ad unless you can substantiate with market research that the Grassroots Republicans overwhelmingly endorse Steve Welch.

We will do everything in our power to see that as many Grassroots people as possible know that Steve Welch voted for Barack Obama.

 Respectfully,

Don Adams, Independence Hall Tea Party PAC

Is Tom Smith the best candidate  to represent constitutional conservative Republicans in the Senate?

  1. Smith is not a PROVEN conservative.  Talk is cheap; action, particularly under pressure, proves a man.  Having never held elective office, except as a Democratic supervisor of his small town in the 70's, Tom has no record of standing for conservative policies under political pressure. How many conservative candidates who said (and often believed) the right things have gone to Washington and caved to pressure? Tom is not battle-tested in the arena of politics.  How do we know he will stand?  Can we afford to be uncertain about a candidate for Senate?  With Sam Rohrer's proven voting record, we can know that where he stood in Harrisburg for 18 years, he willstand in Washington.  A proven trusted veteran conservative is who we need to take the lead in D.C.
  2. Smith is not prepared for leadership in the Senate. Tom, as the CEO of his company, no doubt has good leadership skills.  But is he prepared to be a legislator in the highest legislative office in the land? Does he have the experience and constitutional knowledge to be able to evaluate legislation on constitutional guidelines?  Does he have the knowledge of the issues and ability to articulate them that a Senator must have?   Tom's struggling performance during the debates he attended and failure to show at several other debates indicate his lack of experience with policy issues.  The Senate is not the position to cut your teeth on; the critical issues of our times do not allow for months of adjustment and training to bring a newcomer up to speed.  Why would we assume that experience is a valued asset in every other area of life than government?  Only Sam has the experience to immediately begin contributing to the promotion of a conservative agenda in D.C.
  3. Smith has already proven himself to be unprincipled  in some contexts.                                                                                                                                                           When When asked directly who he voted for in the Sestak-Specter primary, Tom said he couldn't remember. He also couldn't remember whether he voted for Obama in the Primary of 2008.  Really?  Furthermore, in a recent debate, Tom said - and repeated - how much he regretted being put in a position where he had to "compromise his values" in order to get permits. So what will he compromise to make gains in D.C.?  Finally, his attack ads misrepresent the truth.  To say of Sam Rohrer that he is "just another career politician" who voted for the "unconstitutional midnight pay raise" is highly misleading and slanderous to a man of Sam's proven character. Since the PA Constitution instructs the legislature to vote on pay raises, it can hardly be called unconstitutional.  If Tom did his homework and had a regard for the truth, he would know that Sam vocally opposed and voted against the payroll voucher provision - the only unconstitutional part of that bill, never took a cent of that money, and spearheaded the repeal of the payraise. And Tom knows very well that Sam's public service has never been focused on advancing his career, presumably that is why Smith heavily supported Sam in the gubernatorial race. Sam's stand on principles has cost him the support of party leadership; that's hardly the way to advance your career.  Why is Tom Smith not more careful with the truth?  When challenged in a recent debate about the negativity of the ads, Tom said that he "had to get negative" because he "had to defend" himself.  Is that honest?  Everyone knows that the first attack ad came from Smith's campaign, not the other way around.  Sam Rohrer's campaign is focused on communicating his vision, principles, and policy ideas to the voters, not on manipulating them through misinformation.
  4. Smith can not beat Casey.  Smith's personal fortune will not make the difference in the race against Casey.  Republican money will go to whoever wins the nomination.  What will he have to challenge Casey's wider name recognition, deeper war chest, and greater knowledge of all things political?  Smith has no record of conservative votes to show up Casey's liberal voting record, as Sam does. He can not convince voters that he wouldn't vote for tax raises and increased spending by pointing to his voting record.  The Democrats have already targeted his voting record as a township supervisor to demonstrate that he did vote to raise taxes.  Sam never did in 18 years.  All Smith has to run on are words - and that is not Tom's strong suit.  Casey will make mincemeat of Tom if they ever debate the issues; anyone who has heard Tom in a debate knows that to be true.  And Tom has to convince the voters that he is knowledgeable about the issues, the problems, the solutions; he has to be able to intelligently answer questions in all kinds of public forums and media appearances.   Further, Tom's history as a former lifelong Democrat unproven in elected office weakens his support among the grassroots volunteers and the loyal Republican voters. Democrats are not likely to be drawn to a defector from their ranks. By contrast, some have already indicated support for Sam who has a record of acting independently of his party leadership, of putting the people and principles before Party.  Sam has already received the endorsement of the African Episcopalian bishops in Philly and the Pentecostal clergy of Philadelphia.  Why?  Because people across party lines are tired of politicians who are controlled by the party powerful and respond to Sam's message of truth and integrity in government proven by a consistent and principled record.  Only Sam has a record that proves him to be a defender of the Constitution and a champion of the people over the Party.

SAM ROHRER IS THE ONLY PROVEN CONSERVATIVE IN THIS RACE WITH THE EXPERIENCE TO BEAT BOB CASEY IN THE FALL.   for more info go to www.rohrerforsenate.org

OCCUPY were just trained to create confrontations at Tea Party events and rallies, nationwide!

In observing the OCCUPY activities over the past year or so, I surmised that their "first wave" was designed to serve as their learning curve, and that their puppet masters would then deploy them to mount "Wave Two", creating new and more vehement outrages, building on their experience.

That's now coming to pass.

Please relay this to other Tea Parties.

Lou Flanagan

The General Wayne Tea Party

From a reliable source:

1, Training for OCCUPY members & supporters was conducted around the U.S. this past weekend. We know of this because some Tea Party members infiltrated some training meetings and reported what they've learned.

2. The training was conducted in cities, towns and even smaller communities. Every trainer was equipped with a DVD, handouts and a training manual, and urged to recruit others.

3. The training included specific instructions to attend Tea Party activities - meetings, rallies and town halls

3. At such Tea Party events, they were instructed to instigate confrontations and disruption. My source added, '... remember that they are well trained, well funded, extremely well organized and directed.  This is no longer the ragtag bunch of fools who are clueless about what they are there for - they are still ragtag but now they have marching orders and each group will have an even better trained leader(s)".

4. My source also said, "...the OCCUPY movement has gone from semi-organic to fully supported and organized - and as I wrote before (and provided the links to prove this) - they are backed by the Communist and Socialist parties, UAW, SEIU, ACORN, myriad other communist/socialist organizations, Moveon.org, and of course, one of the key money people is George Soros.  This collection of 'sponsors' has no good intentions; moreover they are providing tents, food, water, sleeping bags, entertainment, drugs and more.  And they have insider's in key roles of leaders to incite and whip these people into a frenzy".

5. How should Tea Party members handle any "situations"? My suggestions:

            1. For your upcoming events, contact your local law enforcement chief well in advance and appraise him or her of your           concerns.

            2. Share this heads up with your news media - print and broadcast outlets - in advance. Do not wait until stuff happens.

            3. Ask your members to have the phone number of the local law enforcement people on their speed dial

            4. Ask members to bring a video camera with sound

3..At our weekly sidewalk rallies, I'll call the police first, but if things look bad, I'll instruct my members to leave as soon       as something starts. There's no use in engaging in a dispute with them because they will escalate it.

4.If they crash a meeting, call the police. Police have a handy thing in their toolkit called, "Inciting to riot" which around          here is good for thirty days in the slammer.

6. One purpose of their disruptions will be to create "news", in which your Tea Party appears in headlines about violence or disturbances. The other purpose is the disruption itself.

                        7. Be aware that the date May 1st,, May Day, is a traditional big day with lefties of all types, who know it as "International Workers Day".                              I've seen a separate report that OCCUPY is planning "something big" for that date, but I have no other confirmation about it.

                        Regards,

                        Lou

Voter's Guide - Urgent information

April 12, 2012

Dear Patriots,

As a businessman, father and grandfather I believe that we have reached a historic crossroad where we have been forced to either fight for a serious change in direction or suffer the loss of what we currently hold dear.  Unfortunately, most persons have been convinced that they should do very little or nothing at all.

I was recently at the Pennsylvania Leadership Conference where a very stark revelation was made clear.  A question was asked of the 700 plus people in the auditorium:  "How many persons here believe that you have had it better than your parents?"   I believe that everyone raised their hand.  The speaker then asked "How many of you believe that your children will have it as good as you?"  Every hand went down.

Personally, I believe along with many others that we are in very serious trouble.  We are a very short distance from the rioting in the streets as we see in countries like Greece.  Our politicians are not seriously addressing the problems.  They continue to bribe the American public with money that is not theirs.

This overspending is not only dishonest and unethical; it is immoral and must be stopped if we have any real hope for our children and grandchildren.

Please take the time to review the voter's guide at the link provided.  You will see that there is only one candidate for US Senate who we can really count on to stand firm against the establishment pressure for "spending as usual."  The other candidates may be a help, but we do not know for certain how they will eventually vote on important issues and we honestly think they will compromise on many fronts.

Churches have every right to make this information available in bulk to the congregation and the general public.  They are not allowed to tell persons who to vote for, but they can tell everyone that there is a voting guide available for the Primary Election and challenge people to do their part.

Please get involved by distributing this Voter's Guide to as many persons as possible, especially at the polls on April 24.  Do not let this opportunity escape us.

Sincerely Yours,

David M. Nyce
President/Pilgrim Tours

Let's WIN this together !

Thank you Jeff and Brenda Ney for this fantastic explanation!   For those of you who have asked how you can respond to people about the negative attack ads against Sam, this is information that my husband put together. I hope it helps you as you interact with people both before and on election day.

1. The pay raise vote was
NOT unconstitutional. The vote was COMPLETELY within the law. This charge by Smith is a BALD FACE LIE!. The part that was unconstitutional was the action of the State House leadership AFTER the vote, when they tried to take the raise in the same year it was enacted. They also added in an increase in unvouchered expense reimbursement also to be taken in the same year. The State Constitution only allows an increase in benefits to take place after next election cycle, to allow voters the choice of removing those that would vote for an increase in benefits.

With that being said, Sam was one of a handful of ethical legislators that fought to
REPEAL the newly enacted law, and they were successful with, Ed Rendell signing the repeal on November 16, 2005.    Bottom line SAM NEVER TOOK THE PAY RAISE OR ANY INCREASE IN PER DIEM EXPENSES! PERIOD!

2. The Pension issue. While Sam voted way back in 2001 to increase state pensions, he did so based on faulty, untruthful projection numbers given by Governor Ridge at the time. It as not
MASSIVE. It totaled about 17%. He also apogized for his vote in many public forum owning up to his mistake.     SEND THEM THIS LINK
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/regional/s_664066.html

3. 'Billed Taxpayers over $14,000 in 'personal expenses'.

First of all, they are
NOT personal expenses. The State House has a LAWFUL per diem reimbursement for expenses while conducting State business on State time. The lawmakers do not 'bill' the state for their expenses, they fill out an expense report like everyone does in business. Rohrer has been consistently in the bottom 5% for the use of these monies. A fact this hit piece fails to acknowledge. After numerous Google searches, I was unable to find the article referenced in the hit piece.

Lastly, you can tell people that these false advertisements show the true character of a candidate. Tell them if Smith is lying to you now, how can you ever trust him to tell the truth once in office. You might also tell them he is spending over $250,000 a year on the political consultants that help him put together these hit pieces and that he is voted in 19 straight Democratic primaries for Democratic candidates before turning Republican.

It's easy to attack the record of another when you have
NO VOTING RECORD YOURSELF!!!
I hope this helped you.

George W. Bush to speak in Pennsylvania on GOP presidential primary day

Former President George W. Bush will deliver a speech in Pennsylvania on the day of the state's GOP presidential primary. Bush is the only prominent politician in his family that has not made an endorsement in the 2012 presidential race.

Bush will give the keynote address at the Plumstead Christian School's annual "Founders Forum" on the Calvary Church's campus in Souderton, according to the school's official website.

His father, former President George H. W. Bush is the most recent member of the Bush family to endorse former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for president.

Bush reportedly asked Romney if his son had endorsed him for president yet.

"I haven't met with President George W. Bush," Romney said. "We speak from time to time."

Barbara Bush, his wife, replied, "We'll talk about that."

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

The U.S. Constitution

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader.   Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

About John Stossel

John Stossel joined Fox Business Network (FBN) in 2009. He hosts "Stossel," a weekly program highlighting current consumer issues with a libertarian viewpoint, which debuted. His first shows covered health care, global warming, the novel Atlas Shrugged, "food police", and the Road to Serfdom.

Prior to joining FBN, Stossel co-anchored ABC's prime-time news magazine show, 20/20. There he contributed in-depth special reports and recurring segments on a variety of consumer topics, from pop culture to government and business.

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed,"argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.

Why don't we learn? Because our brains don't intuit well about complex situations. After thousands of years of taking orders from tribal elders, after years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine.

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Patriot Action Network

Patriot Action Network

We are the Tea Party

On Thursday, our staff finalized the most explosive resource that Grassfire has ever published. It's called 69 Obama Lies. It's a Fantastic Resource for this election year!

I believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough "vetting" of Obama's actual words in print. And I know it is going to outrage the Left because we actually hold Obama accountable for what he said!

69 Obama Lies

Dear Patriot,

About six weeks ago, our staff set out with the goal of putting the "truth detector" to what Obama has actually said. What we realized is Obama has lied so pervasively and thoroughly that even our staff had forgotten many of his most outrageous fibs! That's when we realized we had to create a written record of the Obama Lies.

When we finished, we had created a 122-page, 20,000-word dossier that documents a disturbing cross-section of fibs, falsehoods, and fabrications that our President has used to win votes while implementing his radical agenda. Go here to see a larger image of the cover and the full list of 69 Obama Lies we have documented:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

+ + The Lies that got Obama elected...

69 Obama Lies is organized in six sections that cover everything from the lies Obama has told about himself (we call these "ObamaLies"), to his campaign lies, his lies about government and taxes, ObamaCare and domestic and foreign policy.

They are all here -- and footnoted so you will have complete documentation. We start with the ObamaLies -- his denial of Rev. Wright.... the "normalcy" of his church... the Bill Ayers lie... the ACORN lie... and Obama's "Brother's Keeper" lie which exposes his Marxist core.

Let's be clear -- it was these  "ObamaLies" along with his campaign lies that got Obama elected in the first place. Obama's ability to cloak his real beliefs and his real associations (with the willing help of the liberal media) kept his campaign moving forward.

But we don't stop there....

+ + Obama's "Big Government" Lies

69 Obama Lies also tracks the BIG LIE that Obama sold to the American people just after Inauguration Day -- that massive deficit spending would "create and save" jobs and restore the economy.

It was all a LIE. We know that now. But it is vitally important to have the facts laid out in an orderly fashion. That's precisely what 69 Obama Lies does. We expose the full range of Obama's Big Government lies...

The "Create Or Save Jobs" Lie...

The Stimulus Law is Working" Lie...

The "I'll Cut The Deficit" Lie...

The "Government Motors" Lie...

The "Cash for Clunkers" Lie...

The "Rich Pay Less In Taxes" Lie...

+ + Border Lies, ObamaCare Lies... Energy Lies...

69 Obama Lies literally covers every aspect of Obama's presidency -- from his lies about border security and immigration to his lies about gas prices and green jobs.

We saved a whole section for Obama's signature legislative "achievement" -- ObamaCare. We've identified a Baker's Dozen of fibs Obama told just to get ObamaCare passed.

And please note that each of the 69 Obama Lies is like a mini research report -- clearly laying out the specific Obama lie and fully documenting our sources.

You get the actual words of Obama set against the truth -- the LIE next to the reality check. Go here to request your copies and see the complete list of 69 Lies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

+ + 69 Obama Lies Begins Shipping In Two Weeks!

If you can help Grassfire with a contribution of ANY AMOUNT (even a few dollars to cover printing and shipping), we'll send you TWO COPIES of "69 Obama Lies" -- one to keep and one to share with a friend.

We have asked the printer to rush the first printing of 69 Obama Lies so we can get this resource into our team members' hands as quickly as possible.

As a result, we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23.

In order to be included in our first shipment, please let me
hear from you as soon as
possible. Go here to request your two copies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

I truly believe 69 Obama Lies is the most thorough and most important resource Grassfire has ever created. And I want to put it in the hands of every Grassfire team member.

Please take a moment to order your two copies of 69 Obama Lies today, and thanks for the stand you are taking.

Steve Elliott

Grassfire Nation

P.S. As I write, the manuscript is going to the printer and we expect to begin shipping 69 Obama Lies the week of April 23. The first print run of our last resource quickly sold out.  Please go here to see the complete list of 69 Obama Lies and to order your copies:

http://www.grassfire.com/24098/offer.asp?Ref_ID=600013

Patriots, this booklet will assist in setting the record straight with swing voters, moderates, and even Democrats! This is the best resource I have seen to prove the lies from Obama - out of his own mouth- versus the truth or facts. This is the resource of this 2012 Presidential election year.

Want Obama out? Then obtain multiple copies of this booklet and share with friends, neighbors, co-workers, church family, and your tea party. To win we must be equipped! This is the best weapon for your arsenal of resources to beat Obama!

Five Republicans battle in April primary to oppose Sen. Casey in fall

April 8, 2012 4:44 pm
1/7
U.S. Senator Bob Casey

WASHINGTON -- Everyone, it seems, wants Bob Casey's job.

Who wouldn't? The U.S. senator from Pennsylvania has one of Washington's most sought-after offices outside the White House.

His third-floor space in the Russell Senate Office Building was once occupied by the young Sen. John F. Kennedy. Four 8-by-10 shots on the wall show that Mr. Kennedy's desk was in the spot now reserved for office visitors who perch on a yellow couch to meet with Mr. Casey.

The office space, though, doesn't go with the job. Offices are assigned by seniority. Mr. Casey got the coveted spot when its prior occupant, Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., took over Joe Biden's office when the Delaware senator became vice president.

That's something Steve Welch, Tom Smith, Sam Rohrer, Marc Scaringi, David Christian and Joe Vodvarka ought to know.

The five Republicans and one Democrat -- Mr. Vodvarka -- are on the ballot to unseat the one-term U.S. senator from Scranton. John Kensinger wants a shot, too. The Bedford County pharmacist is running as a write-in candidate after failing to collect enough signatures to appear on the Republican primary ballot.

Recent polls show no clear frontrunner in the Republican contest, but indicate that Mr. Casey would beat any of them if the general election were held today.

Patriots,

My name is Mike Ludwig.  I'm the Republican endorsed candidate for the 148th Legislative District.  I was removed from the ballot after a lot of hard work and I'm not ready to give up the fight.  A little about myself, I am 35 years old, married to my high school crush and we have three very adorable children. I've been serving in the US Army for 15 years and am pushing for 20 years. My wife, as well is in the Army National Guard.  I have been deployed several times and was honored to serve my country. I worked for the Montco Sheriff Dept for 6 years before I made a job change to Lebanon County and then worked as a Police Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs for 6 years.  I then went back to my "home" county where all my friends and family live and have been enjoying my time at the Montco Sheriff Dept since Sept 2010.  I am looking to push for 300 Republican write in signatures. Although I have an army of family and in-laws that are willing to do the write in for me I'm looking for further support.  I would greatly appreciate any help that you can offer.  We are fighting certain factions of the GOP machine that are corrupt.  Let's give the people a conservative choice in November.

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For April 23, 2012

1. A Consequential Man, Home Now With His God

Chuck Colson was a genuine hero of mine. I am saddened by his passing, but rejoice that he is now face to face with the Lord he dedicated his life to.

Chuck Colson's life is a very American story and very Christian story - his is a story of grace and redemption.

He worked for Richard Nixon and conspired to commit the Watergate burglary over which he was indicted and went to prison. Along the way, reading Mere Christianity led Colson to become a Christian.

He spent seven months in prison, was disbarred, and saw his son arrested in the fall out over Watergate. But God opened his eyes during his time in prison. He saw the condition of the prisoners, the failures of rehabilitation, and felt led by the Lord to do something about it.

Colson would go on to create Prison Fellowship, an organization loved and supported by many regardless of politics. He was a voice of clarity on the need for evangelicals to engage a world they so often feel as if they are just passing through.

Chuck Colson led a life for Christ Jesus our shared Lord and so many benefited from his ministry. He was a man of great consequence in American history and in the history of the evangelical movement.

He will be missed.

2. The Metrics in Favor of a Romney Win

A traveler from a distant planet landing in the United States right now would, if observing the Presidential election, presume the election was about a war on women or teasing over a cookie or the leader of the free world eating dogs or something else inconsequential to the Presidential election.

In fact, it is a concerted effort on the part of the Democrats to hide the economy from people's attention. Like the Great Oz, the Democrats prefer no one pay attention to the economic disaster behind the curtains. I have run a great many campaigns. Each has a real narrative focus. The goal of the campaign is to try to stay on that narrative focus and not get distracted by the team worried about losing. The Democrats' antics reveal they are deeply worried about losing. They cannot fight on the issue that is singularly at play in this election - Barack Obama's bungling of the economy, so they must try to force Mitt Romney to play elsewhere.

Mitt Romney is a deeply flawed candidate. His path to victory was smoothed based on familiarity by Republican voters, their habit of picking the guy who ran last time, and his money. He only shined in states where he massively outspent his opponents. That spending advantage covered up many, many flaws. Were the economy to improve, Mitt Romney would lose to Barack Obama. It is abundantly clear, however, from Democrat hyperbole about a host of ancillary issues and their hard spin on economic data that the economy is not improving and the metrics of victory are in Mitt Romney's favor.

3. The Romney Campaign's Tin Ear

The Romney campaign continues to leave many evangelical voters feeling a bit out of sorts. It seems more and more the Romney campaign calculus is that the campaign will get the evangelical vote without much effort.

4. Is the Department of Justice sanitizing its connection to Media Matters for America?

OK, here's the background. CJ Ciaramella is a reporter at the Washington Free Beacon, and he emailed the Department of Justice to find out if they had any response to the allegations being featured in Kate Pavlich's latest book on the Operation Fast & Furious scandal (Fast and Furious: Barack Obama's Bloodiest Scandal and the Shameless Cover-Up). Specifically, the allegation that there was a third gun found at the scene of Border Agent Brian Terry's murder that could be traced back to that DOJ/DEA botched gunrunning operation; and that the existence of this third gun was being covered up in order to protect a confidential informant. And let me note in passing: I don't care how highly-placed this alleged informant could be; his or her needs do not take precedence over the needs of Agent Terry's surviving loved ones, or indeed the survivors of anybody that the US government helped murder by freely letting guns get illegally sold to Mexican narco-terrorists.

5. Earth Day 2012: The Day the Tide Turned

Happy Earth Day 2012, everyone! One day we may look back on this as the time when the tide began to recede - that being the tide of Anthropogenic Global Warming hysteria.

The canary in this metaphorical mine is the Discovery Channel, long a mass purveyor of AGW porn. In its new seven-part series "Frozen Planet" Discovery confronts distraught polar bears and calving glaciers in glorious High Definition, but nary a mention of the Scientific Consensus that can best be summed up as "Aaaaargghhh! We're All Going to Die!!"

Earth Day... Pagan Worship Of The Earth and Marxism   Apr 22, 2012 01:44 pm

Lenin's World-Wide Celebration Of Socialism!  The annual, global, orgasmic, daisy chain of paganism is complete for another year. I refer, of course to -- Earth Day.

Quite likely the oldest religion of all, Paganism has been on display throughout this week just ending -- even in the religious communities supposedly dedicated to the worship of the "one true God." Earth Day, itself, is rooted deeply in godless socialism. Vladimir Lenin is the Father/Founder of Earth Day! Why, then, will millions of Christians celebrate it in their churches this Sunday?

Jihad: The Law of War   Apr 22, 2012 09:10 am

The following essay was originally planned to discuss war under the law of Islam. With four schools of Sunni Islamic law, and then another four Shiite schools of law, it is a very complex topic. An entire book could be written about it. I don't pretend to be a scholar on this subject, but it is still important to discuss, in summary, the motivation for Islamic war against the infidel.

The Elephant of Jew hatred   Apr 22, 2012 12:57 am

Mexico's Plan to Create a Paramilitary Force   Apr 21, 2012 09:48 pm

Institutional Revolutionary Party presidential candidate Enrique Pena Nieto, the front-runner in the lead-up to Mexico's presidential election in July, told Reuters last week that if elected, he would seek to increase the size of the current Mexican federal police force. Pena Nieto also expressed a desire to create a new national gendarmerie, or paramilitary police force, to use in place of the Mexican army and Marine troops currently deployed to combat the heavily armed criminal cartels in Mexico's most violent hot spots. According to Pena Nieto, the new gendarmerie force would comprise some 40,000 agents.

Renewed Iran-West Nuclear Talks - Tehran Attempts to Deceive U.S. President Obama, Sec'y of State Clinton With Nonexistent Anti-Nuclear Weapons Fatwa By Supreme Leader Khamenei

An important element in the renewal of nuclear negotiations with Iran in the talks in Istanbul April 13-14, 2012 was an alleged fatwa attributed to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to which the production, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons are forbidden under Islam and that the Islamic Republic of Iran shall never acquire these weapons. Indeed, U.S. leaders - among them Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and even U.S. President Barack Obama - along with 5+1 representatives to the talks,[1] the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors, and even highly respected research institutes considered the fatwa as an actual fact, and examined its significance and implications for the nuclear negotiations with Iran that were renewed in Istanbul.

What if Fannie and Freddie Were Eliminated?

For the past several years, it's not been an uncommon sight in Anytown, USA, to drive down the street and see home after home for sale after going through foreclosure. They are the still-lingering hangover from the housing crash that began in 2007. Though the true cause of what burst America's housing bubble is still debated, two of the culprits -- housing finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are still going strong even though both essentially failed in 2008 and are under government control. Economists and politicians alike are now pondering whether we need Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at all and what would happen if they were eliminated altogether.

For several years prior to 2007, home prices went through the roof, but then they crashed through the basement. Since then, more than 2.3 million homeowners have faced foreclosure -- an 81 percent increase over 2007. This all, of course, contributed to the Great Recession we're still rebuilding from today. "Easy credit" is pointed to as the corrosive acid that ate away at the housing market's foundation, and federal government-sponsored mortgage finance giants -- the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) -- were there to supply it and help other lenders to do so.

Election Year Taxes

As we have documented over the years, the Leftmedia are quite adept at using polls to drive public opinion rather than reflect it. The latest such example was a poll on taxes in advance of Income Redistribution Day, but as we shall see, there's more here than meets the eye.

Gallup reports, "As tax filing day looms, Americans fall into two closely matched camps: those who believe the amount they pay in federal income tax is too high (46%) and those who consider it 'about right' (47%). Just 3% consider their taxes too low." It's hardly newsworthy that so few find their taxes to be too low, but for so many to see them as "about right" is interesting. Here's why: Roughly half of Americans don't pay any income taxes at all. It's no coincidence, then, that roughly half of Americans think their tax burden is "about right."

We'll give Gallup one thing: They made clear that Americans had a much more negative view of their taxes prior to the Bush tax cuts. And why wouldn't they? Contrary to media myth, the Bush tax cuts applied to everyone -- not just the wealthy. The top rate went from 39.6 percent to 35 percent, the next tier dropped from 36 to 33, followed by 31 to 28, 28 to 25 and the lowest bracket dropped from 15 percent to 10 percent. For those who appreciate math, the bottom bracket had both the greatest nominal drop -- 5 points -- and the greatest percentage drop -- 33 percent -- but you won't hear that on the network news.

Indeed, the Leftmedia have suppressed that inconvenient truth to the point that a CNN poll shows that almost 70 percent of Americans think the tax system favors the wealthy. The fact is, according to CNS News and the Tax Foundation, "Americans making more than $250,000 had an effective tax rate of 23.4 percent and their total share of the tax burden was 45.7 percent." That contrasts with Americans earning less than $50,000, who paid an effective rate of 3.5 percent for a share of 6.7 percent. Yet with Barack Obama's canard that the rich don't pay their "fair share" being blasted through the sycophantic media bullhorn, it's no wonder the idea sticks.

Perceptions could change on Jan. 1, 2013, when the Bush tax cuts are set to expire. Some were extended by the last Congress, but rates will go up for everyone in January unless an extension passes this year. The aforementioned rates will return to their previous levels, the child tax credit will drop from $1,000 to $500, the marriage penalty will return, the death tax will skyrocket to 55 percent, the capital gains tax rate will increase from 15 percent to 20 percent (with another 3.8 percent tacked on for ObamaCare), and the tax on dividends will go from 15 percent to the rate of ordinary wages -- as high as 39.6 percent. The temporary payroll tax cut will also expire. The total tax bomb on the struggling economy will be close to $500 billion.

Instead of defusing the issue, the Senate took up but failed to pass Obama's beloved Buffett Rule, an election-year tax gimmick that would require millionaires to pay no less than 30 percent in taxes. We call this a gimmick because, as columnist Charles Krauthammer points out, "If we collect the Buffett tax for the next 250 years -- a span longer than the life of this republic -- it would not cover the Obama deficit for 2011 alone."

An extension of the Bush tax cuts, on the other hand, should be a no-brainer during an election year. It should not only be permanent, but there should be fewer and even lower rates, which would lead to economic growth. As Joe Biden might say, "It's not class warfare. It's math." Of course, he meant that comment to further the administration's class warfare against the wealthy and presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney in particular. Obama and his minions want you to focus on what Romney does with his income, and not what Obama does with yours.

What's your opinion of your tax burden? What should reform look like?

This Week's 'Alpha Jackass' Award

"In this country, prosperity doesn't trickle down, prosperity grows from the bottom up, and it grows from a strong middle class out. That's why I'm always confused when we keep having the same argument with folks who don't seem to remember how America was built. ... Right now, we have two competing visions of our future, and the choice could not be clearer. And let me say, those folks on the other side, I am sure they are patriots, I'm sure they're sincere in terms of what they say, but their theory, I believe, is wrong." --Barack Obama, explaining why the government needs even more money from the wealthy than it already takes

News From the Swamp: Budgeting Junk Mail

As the federal debt spirals out of control because of Barack Obama's $5 trillion deficit spending binge, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) finally decided to tackle ... Post Office reform. He called on the Senate to pass the 21st Century Postal Service Act, S. 1789, which will restructure Postal Service employees' pension plans, and he did so by making an appeal for junk mail. "I'll come home tonight here to my home in Washington and there'll be some mail there," he said. "A lot of it is what some people refer to as junk mail, but for the people who are sending that mail, it's very important." Then he went off the deep end: "[S]eniors love getting junk mail. It's sometimes their only way of communicating or feeling like they're part of the real world." Perhaps he's referring to letters from his constituents.

As for the federal budget, the Senate has neglected to pass one in more than 1,000 days, and it punted again this week. Budget Committee chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND) explained, "This is the wrong time to vote in committee; this is the wrong time to vote on the floor. I don't think we will be prepared to vote before the election." The election is a convenient thing to hide behind, but it's more than six months away. Conrad obviously fears that a budget vote wouldn't help Democrats retain control of the upper chamber. Not that a budget will fix much -- Conrad's still includes a massive deficit.

National Review's Yuval Levin put it this way: "Imagine if Paul Ryan had produced his budget proposal and put it before his committee, but then John Boehner killed it, insisting that the House should not pass a budget of any kind so that his members could be spared a difficult vote in an election year. Surely had any such thing happened it would have been treated as a monumental leadership crisis among House Republicans and a sign of gross dereliction and disorder."

Please let us know if you "love getting junk mail."

Patriots' Day Campaign Final Update

From the 'Non Compos Mentis' File

Three Secret Service agents are no longer employed this week and more firings are expected in the wake of a prostitution scandal that unfolded during Barack Obama's recent trip to Colombia. At least 11 agents were sent home from the 33-nation Summit of the Americas after two of them got into a payment dispute with a prostitute who promptly reported the incident to the Colombian police. Among the group were two supervisors and three members of the Counter-Assault Team, which is tasked with using heavy firepower to neutralize attacks on the president. The Pentagon also reported that five service members have been confined to quarters in relation to the incident.

The Secret Service, under the Department of Homeland Security since 2003, maintains that the president was never in any physical danger, but the episode didn't improve the country's reputation among our Latin American neighbors. The agents were in Cartagena for advance preparation when their "undercover" operation was exposed. Their actions could have opened them to blackmail and put delicate information and the president's life in danger. Obama didn't address the scandal while he was in Colombia, opting instead to make a glib comment about scouting Cartagena for a potential future vacation for his wife.

Hope 'n' Change: GSA Goes to Vegas

Remember when Obama said in 2009, "You can't take a trip to Las Vegas ... on the taxpayer's dime"? Such advice was lost on the General Services Administration (GSA). The obscure GSA, tasked with offering management support for the federal government's numerous agencies, is the new poster child for taxpayer abuse, thanks to an $820,000 Las Vegas conference the organization recently produced for some of its employees. The conference rivaled the opulence of Roman emperors and shameless millennium-era CEOs, dumping thousands of dollars for items such as commemorative coins, a GSA yearbook, 2,000-square-foot luxury suites and bubble baths for regional commissioner Jeffrey Neely.

An investigation into the conference by Brian Miller, the GSA's inspector general, caught the bipartisan attention of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee this week. Miller detailed a long series of embarrassing abuses that included a $75,000 bicycle-building exercise and a $58,000 audio-visual bill to play ridiculous music videos produced by GSA employees. GSA official Jeffrey Neely invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to testify about the agency's scandalous behavior or the years-long culture of corruption. He is reportedly on administrative leave, but he is still drawing his $179,000 salary and even received a $9,000 bonus, which was apparently grandfathered in despite a federal-employee pay freeze.

Heads may roll over this affair, but in the end a Democrat Congress may be to blame for the GSA's behavior. The Budget and Impoundment Control Act passed in 1974 in the wake of Watergate took away the president's longstanding power to impound funds for agencies allocated by Congress. Prior to the act, presidents could hold money to balance budgets and defend against profligate spending on luxury trips. The federal deficit rose $47 billion the year after the act was passed, and it hasn't stopped rising since.

Amending the First Amendment

Democrats have long decried the Supreme Court's 2010 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which overturned campaign finance restrictions on corporations. Now, they're aiming to amend the First Amendment to take away the right of free speech for the people who make up corporations. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) explained, "I think one of the presenters [at a Democratic forum on amending the Constitution] said that the Supreme Court had unleashed a predator that was oozing slime into the political system, and that, indeed, is not an exaggeration." By all means, stop the predator's oozing slime.

"Our Founders had an idea," she continued. "It was called democracy. It said elections are determined by the people, the voice and the vote of the people, not by the bankrolls of the privileged few. This Supreme Court decision flies in the face of our Founders' vision and we want to reverse it." Actually, our Founders warned against democracy, and they wrote the First Amendment precisely to protect the kind of political speech that Pelosi and Co. are trying to silence. We just have one question for the former speaker: Are you serious?

Economy

Regulatory Commissars: Obama's Oil Crisis

Barack Obama's latest scheme to make it appear that he's doing something -- anything -- about the spike in gasoline prices is actually more of a re-election crisis-control effort. He plans to spend $52 million to further regulate a tightly controlled market and punish "speculators" whom he blames for running up the price at the pump. Naturally, oil futures prices jumped at the news.

Those new regulations on the oil market come while Obama is tightening the screws in other ways as well. Witness the Friday document dump of an Executive Order that creates a task force to coordinate federal oversight of natural gas development. That task force is charged with "setting sensible, cost-effective public health and environmental standards" for "unconventional" natural gas development. In other words, he wants to undermine the innovative and effective practice of hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," thereby hampering our domestic energy production capabilities just as he has with offshore drilling.

While Obama claims that we are "producing more oil than at any time in the last eight years," his entrenched opposition to completing the vital portion of the Keystone XL pipeline to Canada puts him at odds with House Republicans, who placed the approval of that project into the just-passed highway bill. Obama threatened a veto over the Keystone provision, and the Canadians are growing weary of his stubbornness. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper warned at a recent "Three Amigos" summit involving the United States, Canada and Mexico that Americans will soon have to pay "market prices" for Canadian tar sands oil based on Obama's foot-dragging over Keystone. Canada also stands ready to sell its oil to China.

Not content to just sit by and do nothing, TransCanada, the company developing the Keystone XL pipeline, has proposed another route to avoid an area environmentalists were intent on keeping off limits.

Dodd-Frank: A Study in Wasted Time

While former Sen. Chris Dodd is already out of Congress and Rep. Barney Frank soon will be, the damage they wrought to the economy and business climate will continue long after both have departed Capitol Hill. The House Financial Services Committee released a study this week noting just 46 percent completion of required rule-making under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and that volume already exceeds 5,300 pages of new regulations. A spreadsheet published by the Committee, cheekily dubbed the "burden tracker," estimates that the rules already in place will consume more than 24 million man hours -- or that of 12,000 full-time workers -- per year. By comparison, the Panama Canal was built in 20 million man-hours.

Meanwhile, data compiled by the Financial Times claims credit availability will decrease by $1.2 trillion under Dodd-Frank. Tighter money drives up interest rates, and higher interest rates make borrowing more expensive for consumers who wish to purchase big-ticket items such as houses and cars as well as for businesses looking to expand. Given that we have likely already adopted the simpler rules Dodd-Frank requires, leaving the more complex regulations to be enacted near the end of full implementation, it's probable that the cumulative effect will be far more than double the 5,300 pages of rules and 24 million man-hours. We just had to pass it to see what was in it, didn't we?

Income Redistribution: Even More Too Big to Fail

If anyone thought the biggest five banks were behemoths before their bailout, numbers released by the Federal Reserve show that JPMorgan & Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and Goldman Sachs now hold $8.5 trillion in assets, or about 56 percent of U.S. annual economic output. That's compared to only 43 percent five years ago, prior to the 2008 bailout.

It doesn't appear the lessons of the bailout have been learned either. In fact, Kevin Warsh, a former member of the Fed's Board of Governors, thinks financial markets "have come to believe that what the government did in 2008 and 2009 isn't a one-time deal [and] that the government will somehow come to the rescue of these big financial firms." On the other hand, more small banks are disappearing due to forced consolidation or acquisition by the largest five, as the 6,291 commercial banks operating today are fewer than half of the number present in 1984. Moreover, these banking giants are expanding their international assets as they take advantage of government austerity measures that affect European lenders. With each fire sale acquisition overseas, the global financial house of cards grows taller.

It's nearly a foregone conclusion that "too big to fail" is still in effect, with the only question becoming how much more taxpayer money will be thrown into the fire. After spending $245 billion to bail out the financial system in 2008, it's hard telling how many more billions another TARP-style bailout would cost and when the bill will come due.

Is "too big to fail" a thing of the past, or are we just getting started?

Security

Immigration Front: Election Pandering

With Election Day less than seven months away, Barack Obama apparently thinks it's time to start re-courting the voters he ditched after his 2008 victory. Hence, his recent sit-down interview with Univision in which he promised to take on immigration reform in the first year of his second term. Talk about a recycled stump speech. Swap "second" for "first" and the president's promise could easily be a replay of what then-candidate Obama said in 2008 when he also pledged to make immigration reform a priority in his first year in office. Lest anyone berate him for his failure, however, he provides the usual explanation: It's Republicans' fault. "The challenge we've got on immigration reform is very simple," Obama said. "I've got a majority of Democrats who are prepared to vote for it, and I've got no Republicans who are prepared to vote for it. ... So what we need is a change either of Congress or we need Republicans to change their mind[s]." Or a change in the White House.

Obama's excuse might have a fighting chance if one ignores for a minute that Democrats enjoyed bullet-proof majorities in both houses of Congress during Obama's first two years in office. The truth is that even with this advantage the president proved himself entirely incapable of passing immigration reform. Now, with his re-election on the line, he's suddenly revived his interest in the issue and is undoubtedly hoping his blame act will buy a second term -- where we predict immigration reform will once again languish in the realm of forgotten campaign promises. To avoid losing the Hispanic vote for a generation, Mitt Romney and Republicans must get out in front on this issue, providing serious reform proposals to deal with border security, the overly cumbersome and restrictive immigration process, and the millions of illegals already here.

What should real immigration reform look like?

Warfront With Jihadistan: Taliban Resurgence

A recent series of coordinated attacks by Taliban insurgents in Kabul and nearby provinces has highlighted the Obama administration's lack of concern over Afghanistan, a war he once cynically called "the right war" while undermining our efforts in Iraq. Last weekend's attacks targeted government buildings in the capital and U.S. and Afghan security installations in the eastern region of the country. Taliban fighters were successfully beaten back by Afghan and NATO security forces, and no U.S. casualties were reported. The security situation in Afghanistan has actually improved markedly, but that is despite Obama's leadership, not because of it. He has made few public pronouncements about America's military involvement there except to note the continued withdrawal of U.S. forces.

National Security Adviser Tom Donilon recently suggested that as many as 60,000 troops might come home by mid-2013, apparently ignoring General John Allen's call for more firepower next year to hold our current security gains. No one in the administration has spoken of achieving victory over the Taliban, and the State Department is even angling for a peace agreement. The administration's lack of support for the U.S. military commitment in Afghanistan is demoralizing our troops in the field and signals to our enemies that Obama lacks the stomach to follow through on our commitments.

Defense Secretary Under Fire for Expensive Trips Home

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is on the hot seat after it was discovered that he charged taxpayers more than $800,000 for weekend flights to his California home. Panetta, who previously served as a congressman from California, said the regular trips to his Monterey ranch relieved stress and helped him keep his "mind straight." He said, "Normally, I've flown home commercially. In this job [as defense secretary], I'm obligated to be in touch with communications and have to fly on a secure plane." That's true, but each trip costs $32,000, of which Panetta is required to reimburse only the equivalent of a commercial round-trip ticket. He has reimbursed just $17,000 of the total.

Last November, Barack Obama called for his Cabinet members to cut back on expenses, specifically mentioning travel costs: "At a time when families have had to cut back ... we thought that it was entirely appropriate for ... our agencies to try to root out waste, large and small, in a systematic way." Now caught, Panetta is looking for alternatives.

Meanwhile, the government intends to double or triple (or more, depending on rank) the cost of health care fees for military retirees.

Iran Imitates the Peanuts

In January 2011, we described how Iran's most common practice has been to talk -- endlessly -- with a rotating cast of antagonists, never agreeing on anything except the need to hold more talks. A headline at the time captured it perfectly: "Two Days of Talks Between Iran and World Powers Ended in Agreement to Meet Again." Fifteen months later, nothing has changed.

Recently, Iran's Foreign Minister absurdly urged the UN to lift sanctions on Iran as a "trust-building measure" so that the latest nuclear talks could proceed. As we have said many, many times before, Iran's strategy for handling the nuclear dispute is straight out of the Miscreant's Handbook: 1. Misbehave again and again and again until you feel the ire of the international community; 2. Offer to stop misbehaving in return for concessions; 3. Rake in as many concessions as possible before returning to Step 1. The Iranians have mastered this approach and used it to ward off harm for over nine years.

Right on cue, the usual leftist suspects assured that this time Lucy wasn't going to yank the football. CNN's Fareed Zakaria wrote about the possibility of a sweeping deal, before predictably warning that it might be torpedoed not by Russia, China or Iran, but by Republicans. The New York Times cited "western diplomats" who think sanctions' bite may be prodding Iran toward a deal, clearly ignorant of the Iranians' famous retort: "We didn't launch a Revolution in order to sell pistachios." Russia and China appear more than willing to continue serving as Iran's protectors at the UN Security Council. In short, no one should expect any deals from the latest talks -- unless it's the UN playing the role of Charlie Brown and rewarding Iran's intransigence.

After nearly 42 years, U.S. Army Spc. Leslie Sabo Jr. has been cleared to receive a posthumous Medal of Honor. Sabo was killed on May 10, 1970, while serving in Cambodia. When his platoon was ambushed, the 22-year-old Sabo charged the enemy position, killing several enemy soldiers while drawing fire away from his fellow soldiers. As he was resupplying, an enemy grenade landed near him -- he tossed it away and used his own body to shield a wounded soldier. He then crawled toward the enemy's position and threw a grenade into their bunker, killing several enemy soldiers, but also costing Sabo his life.

The citation for his actions was filed shortly thereafter but fell through the cracks until 1999. Finally, after more years of delay, Sabo's widow, Rose Sabo-Brown, and his brother George will attend a ceremony at the White House to receive the Medal on his behalf. "This brave solider clearly distinguished himself through his courageous actions," Army Secretary John McHugh said. "The Army and our nation are forever grateful for his heroic service."

Climate Change This Week: Earth Day 2012

This Sunday is Earth Day, a.k.a. Vladimir Lenin's birthday. As if on cue, a study published in the April issue of Nature Geoscience shows that some of the glaciers in the Himalayas, contrary to the warnings of global warmists, are actually growing. According to Fox News, "Using computer models to compare the ice volume in satellite photos from 1999 and 2008, the study showed that some glaciers are holding steady and even gaining ice mass." Study researcher Julie Gardelle insists, "The rest of the glaciers in the Himalayas are mostly melting, in that they have negative mass balance; here we found that glaciers aren't. This is an anomalous behavior."

In 2007, the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that Himalayan glaciers would melt completely in 25 years due to man-caused climate change. The IPCC head eventually issued a statement of regret for a poorly vetted claim. Given this recent finding, we think the matter is at least up for debate.

Speaking of Earth Day, the Media Research Center has compiled the Top 25 Worst Environmental Quotes over the years for your viewing pleasure.

Alleged Killer Faces Trial, Short Sentence in Norway

Anders Behring Breivik is now facing trial for killing 77 people in Norway last July, the worst massacre in the country's history. Yet if he is convicted (and found sane), he faces just 21 years in prison -- roughly 100 days in jail per murder -- though it could be longer if he proves to be a threat at the end of that time. In 1905, Norway abolished the death penalty in peacetime and, in 1979, followed suit for war crimes. That influenced Breivik's decision, he said: "If I had feared death I would not have dared to carry out this operation," adding, "I would have done it again." While he claims "self-defense on behalf of my people, my city, my country," even he admitted, "There are only two outcomes in this case that I had respected, that is the death penalty or acquittal." A short prison term, he said, would be "pathetic." When a judge suggested that the death penalty would be fitting, however, he was dismissed from the case.

Meanwhile, the Leftmedia keep insisting that Breivik is a "far-right militant" or a "right-wing fanatic." However, as we noted at the time, this is little more than a sick and politically motivated smear. He may claim to be a militant "Christian" and to be fighting Islam and multiculturalism, but Breivik plagiarized heavily from "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski's "manifesto," liberally exchanging the words "multiculturalism" or "cultural Marxism" for "leftism" -- hardly the hallmark of a committed ideologue, Christian or otherwise. Furthermore, nothing he did represents Christians or conservatism.

Around the World: Europeans Revise History

Just when we thought we had seen it all, Donal Blaney of the UK Daily Mail reports, "Today we learn that the European Union ... is opening a Ł44m museum that will be a House of European History. This vanity project in and of itself is an offensive waste of money as governments and peoples tighten belts across Europe. But what I found most offensive of all is that World War II is to be described as 'the European Civil War.'"

That would be news to the U.S., Canadian, Australian and other soldiers who fought and died both in Europe and particularly in the Pacific Theater. And as Mark Steyn quipped, "If this were truly a 'European Civil War,' it would have been over in nothing flat, because on the Continent of Europe every nation was either neutral, conquered, or on the wrong side. It's hard to have a civil war with only one team." Blaney is right -- those responsible for the renaming have shown themselves to be "insular, arrogant and inward-looking."

And Last...

Thanks to Newt Gingrich, Barack Obama's campaign has made something of an issue of a Romney family vacation in 1983, in which the family, faced with a packed station wagon, put their beloved dog in a travel kennel, complete with windshield, on the roof. Apparently, the incident is focus-group-tested to damage Romney's approval. There's even a "Dogs Against Romney" group opposing the presumptive GOP nominee. Surely, they have better bones to pick.

This week, however, the Daily Caller's Jim Treacher noticed a passage from Barack Obama's first autobiography in which he described the childhood experience of eating dog meat while living with his stepfather in Indonesia. To illustrate the absurdity of such "issues," Treacher then launched into a pun-filled joke fest that caught on quickly. "Obama would never put a dog on top of a car," wrote Treacher. "Dries out the meat." From there, it expanded to a Twitter hashtag meme -- #ObamaDogRecipes -- including howlers such as Yorkshire terrier pudding, chicken poodle soup, pugs in a blanket, mutt chop, Great Danishes, beagle with cream cheese, pure bread, and so on and so on. Others mocked, "If I had a dog, it would look like the one Obama ate." Leftists are completely missing the joke, of course, but just think -- the puns are this delicious, and we haven't even reached the dog days of summer.

WikiLeaks: McCain knew Obama team stuffed ballot boxes bribed Jackson took Russian money in 2008

Apr 22, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

According to internal Emails circulated among the staff at Stratfor, an Austin Texas based private intelligence gathering firm, John McCain was presented with proof that Democrats in Pennsylvania and Ohio used voter fraud to win those states and committed other disturbing crimes. The communiqués were stolen and made public by WikiLeaks.

An Email dated November 7, 2008 under the subject line " Insight - The Dems & Dirty Tricks ** Internal Use Only - Pls Do Not Forward **," was sent by Fred Burton, Stratfor's V.P. of Intelligence. It said in part, The black Dems were caught stuffing the ballot boxes in Philly and Ohio as reported the night of the election and Sen. McCain chose not to fight. The matter is not dead inside the party. It now becomes a matter of sequence now as to how and when to "out".

Burton also mentioned a "six-figure" Democrat donation/bribe to Jesse Jackson to buy his silence ... Continue Reading:WikiLeaks: McCain knew Obama team stuffed ballot boxes bribed Jackson took Russian money in 2008

American Minute April 21

By Bill Federer, staff writer

"Mark Twain," a river measurement meaning "12-feet-deep," was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who died APRIL 21, 1910.
Growing up on the Mississippi, Clemens left school at age 12 when his father died, became a printer's apprentice, then piloted steamboats till the War between the States suspended river traffic.
Samuel Clemens joined the Confederates, but after 2 weeks got discharged to work for his brother Orion, who was secretary to Nevada's Governor.
After an attempt at mining, Clemens became a reporter in Virginia City, Nevada, using the name "Mark Twain" for the first time.
He moved to San Francisco, sailed the world, then married Olivia Langdon.
His attempt at publishing failed and he paid off debts by lecturing across America.

Will there be a Catholic Mormon Evangelical Connection for the 2012 Elections?

Apr 21, 2012 02:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Jerry Todd, staff writer

In the Republican primaries, one by one an excellent slate of pretenders fell to blunders and/or well-funded partisan attacks. Money created the dominance of Mitt Romney over Rick Santorum. Rick stayed in the race in spite of being outspent 8 to 1. This GOP primary revealed the spread of preferences in Republican ranks, from RINO to Tea Party. That's good if the Party has sense enough to use its best weapons.

Missing so far is a strong Hispanic presence that is available - over 63% refer to themselves as conservative or moderate. In the 2010 elections the day was carried by the Conservative/TP wing. They would not compromise with the Party's compromisers who might yet get it.

I've always admired Mitt for his business acumen - especially bailing out the ineptly run Salt Lake City Olympics, generating the only profitable Olympics in history. I've been on the short end of ... Continue Reading:Will there be a Catholic Mormon Evangelical Connection for the 2012 Elections?

Doolittle Raiders: patriots and men of courage when America needed them

Apr 21, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By Jim Emerson, staff writer

Seventy  years ago this week sixteen Army Air Force B-25 Mitchells took off from the heaving deck of the Navy's aircraft carrier USS Hornet. This was the first time in the Second World War that America took the fight to the enemy. The raiders who were led by Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, struck Japan in a demonstration ofAmerica's determination to take the fight to Japan's home soil.  This raid was a morale booster for a nation that was still recovering from the attack onPearl Harbor.

The concept of launching medium bombers from a carrier was conceived by Navy Captain Francis Low. Once the idea was a "go" Lt. Col. Doolittle was selected to plan and lead the Army Air Force mission.  The crews were recruited from B-25 crews from the 17th Bomb Group and were trained to take off from an Aircraft carrier at Eglin Field inFlorida. Being too large to land, the bombers ... Continue Reading:Doolittle Raiders: patriots and men of courage when America needed them

His interpreter, Moses Tinda Tautamy, helped him minister to Indians along the Susquehanna and Delaware Rivers, camping at night.
Born APRIL 20, 1718, missionary David Brainerd wrote in his Journal:
"FORKS OF DELAWARE, Pennsylvania, Lord's day, July 21, 1745.
Preached to the Indians...Divine truth seemed to make very considerable impressions and caused the tears to flow freely.
Afterwards I baptized my interpreter and his wife, who were the first I baptized among the Indians...
Though before he had been a hard drinker...it is now more than six months since he experienced this change;
in which space of time he has been exposed to strong drink in places where it has been moving free as water; yet has never desired after it...
He discourses feelingly of the conflicts and consolations of a real Christian."

The media can ignore it, but Obama is losing big among Catholics which will seal his doom

Apr 20, 2012 01:03 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Since such records have been kept no Democrat presidential candidate has ever lost the "Catholic vote" and won the general election. Republicans can win a general election despite losing the "Catholic vote" but a Democrat simply can't. This makes Barack Obama's war on Christians in general and Catholics in particular so dangerous for him and his Party.

The results of a new Pew survey of voters by religious affiliation, holds devastating news for Obama's chances of reelection. The ease with which it can be found proves this news is being purposely ignored by a delusional media that believes Obama is cruising toward an easy reelection.

Pew found Mitt Romney with a commanding lead among Evangelical and Catholic voters that has actually grown by 5 and 8 points respectively in just the past month. Obama now trails Mitt Romney 73/20 among Evangelicals and 57/37 among White Catholics.

The significance of Pew's findings among "White" ... Continue Reading:The media can ignore it, but Obama is losing big among Catholics which will seal his doom

Is George Zimmerman guilty of 2nd degree murder?

Apr 20, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

From the projects to the White House, February's shooting death of punk-in-the-making Trayvon Martin has provided a ready-made call to arms for the nation's professional race hustlers. Even the President has taken advantage of this opportunity to pimp a black death for electoral profit.

And though it isn't surprising that much of the national media have ignored the way in which the facts of the shooting apply to Florida statute, it does seem difficult to believe that no one in the nation is interested.

Given the many conflicting stories concerning surveillance video and witness testimony it is difficult to know what really happened on the night Martin was killed by George Zimmerman. And until all of the evidence is presented in court, all that can be stated with any degree of certainty is that the one individual privy to existing information, Florida prosecutor Angela Corey, believed there to be enough ... American Minute April 19

Apr 19, 2012 06:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Paul Revere was captured along the way, but William Dawes and Samuel Prescott continued the midnight ride from Boston's Old North Church to warn the inhabitants of Concord that British troops were coming to seize their guns.
In early dawn, APRIL 19, 1775, American "Minutemen," as poet Emerson wrote, fired the "shot heard round the world" by confronting the British on Lexington Green and at Concord's Old North Bridge.
The conflict began that in eight years would end in independence.
New England celebrates this as "Patriots' Day."
Also on APRIL 19, in the year 1951, Five-Star General Douglas MacArthur retired from 48 years of patriotic service.
One of the most decorated soldiers in U.S. history, MacArthur served in France in WWI, was Superintendent of West Point and the youngest Army Chief of Staff.

The TSA's failure to verify ticket purchase IDs leaves flyers at risk

Apr 19, 2012 02:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

A skilled investigative reporter has lodge a serious charge against the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that the agency is both ignoring and hoping will go away. Josh Bernstein insists that anyone with a good fake identification card and a calm demeanor can bluff his/her way through TSA checkpoints just by making sure the name on the fake ID matches the name on his/her legitimately purchased boarding pass.

Bernstein's charges mean that since the TSA doesn't verify passenger identities, safe flying from an American airport is a matter of luck rather a function of a diligent federal agency's procedures.

Worse than this, the TSA has no plans to start verifying the identifications airline passengers use to purchase tickets. "As long as the ID looks good, it MUST be good" seems to be the current policy. While you, your elderly parents and your children are being searched by TSA agents determined to nail you as ... NumbersUSA

This weekend, as Americans take part in Earth Day celebrations across the country, NumbersUSA's Roy Beck and Melanie Oubre will be at Earth Day Dallas (the nation's second largest Earth Day event) to release the results of a national survey of American's attitudes toward U.S. population growth.

Forty years after a bipartisan government commission recommended slowing U.S. population growth and eventually stabilizing, U.S. population continues to grow by about 3 million a year -- the majority of this growth driven by federal immigration policies.

What do you think? Now you can take our survey and see how your responses compare with Americans from 40 years ago!

"On the 40th anniversary of that landmark event in the early environmental movement, we wanted to know if Americans today share that commissions conclusion that massive U.S. population growth is harmful to the environment and unwanted by the citizenry," said Roy Beck, President of the NumbersUSA.

We've already asked 1,000 adults for opinions on U.S. population growth and immigration levels. (See those results here.) But we want to know what you think.

In 1972, 66% of Americans disapproved of adding another 100 million people to the U.S. population. Since then, the U.S. has added another 1,000,000+, and if the immigration status quo isn't addressed by Congress, we'll add another 100-plus million over the next 40 years!

"Successive Congresses have adopted immigration increases that only 3% of Americans wanted in 1972," Beck said. "They have tripled immigration numbers and created a level of population growth that two-thirds of Americans said they opposed. Despite near-silence about population issues in the public discussions of our present era, this 40th anniversary poll shows that Americans still solidly oppose their government forcing major population growth on them."

What are your thoughts about U.S. population and immigration? Take our survey now!

New poll finds Americans still want far less Population Growth 40 years after government commission called for stabilization

Forty years after a multi-year bi-partisan government commission recommended slowing U.S. population growth and eventually stabilizing, Americans still would like to see it happen, according to poll results to be released this weekend at the 2012 Earth Day Dallas festival.

I came of age in the 1950s during a period when Joe McCarthy was raising hell about communists in the federal government. He was spectacularly inept, often made intemperate and inaccurate charges, but for the most part he was right. He managed to alienate his fellow Republicans and earn a slap-down from then President Eisenhower. By around 1953 his fifteen minutes of fame were up. His bombastic personality undermined the seriousness of the issue.

Community Organizers Mobilize to Save ObamaCare
Apr 19, 2012 11:26 am

The Obama administration has enlisted one of America's leading economic terrorist groups to help defend and promote the president's widely unpopular socialist healthcare scheme. This development is not all that surprising because when liberal policies threaten to destroy the country Democrats typically think all they need to do is shout louder to make people understand how wonderful the hated policies really are. This ongoing collaboration with radical left-wing community organizers is also part of the Obama reelection campaign's divide-and-conquer strategy: Inflame the base and attack opponents relentlessly to draw the public's attention away from the worsening economy.

SultanKnish Daniel Greenfield article: All the Morals of a Bulldozer

To be genuinely outraged about something, you need to actually believe in something. Without principles, outrage is just tactical anger, or bullying in plainer language. Principles, values and codes are universal. That is if you are angry about a dog being mistreated by riding on top of a car, then you should at least be equally angry at dogs being eaten.

If a man shooting another man after a confrontation and not being charged for it angers you, then it should anger you regardless of the color of his skin. For that matter if racism or sexism offends you, then it should offend you regardless of whether it is directed at a woman or a black man who is a liberal or a conservative.

It's child play to notice that the game doesn't work this way anymore. That the media engages in displays of tactical anger, serious-face inquiries into issues that they are concerned about only when they benefit their side, manufactured outrage that is not based on any deeply held beliefs, but only on the need to score some points.

If Republicans seem slower on the uptake, it's because their ranks tend to be stocked with old fashioned types who even in their more liberal incarnations still try to maintain consistent values. The mindset that that they confront is alien to all but a few of their opposition political operatives. It is a mindset devoid of any values, operating on a Pavlovian reflex that reacts to talking points without framing them in any larger context.

Media moral bullying follows this course, raising issues that they pretend are vital principles, but stop being so the moment they no longer benefit them. The iron clad value of a moment ago is discarded into the trash a second later. The serious faces relax, the twitter accounts go dead and all the attention is refocused on some truly important issue, like the next iPhone.

It's not entirely cynical, though it mostly is. The people behaving this way have lost the ability to recognize enduring abstract principles that have an existence beyond their emotions of the moment. They don't live by rules, rather rules live by them, if they are angry, then their anger is a moral issue, if they are not angry, it isn't. Emotions are the only moral barometer that people who cannot see beyond the self have.

That makes them natural bullies, their shows of outrage lifting their anger up to self-righteousness. Their tactical anger is part pretense, part real, and even they don't really know the difference anymore. They have been taught that their momentary moral tantrums make them good people, they have not however been taught to be good people. They believe that they are right because they are angry and that they are angry because they are right. It's an attitude you can see in traffic arguments, in divorce court and on the evening news.

Like well trained Oceanians, it depends on audiences in colorful Keffiyah scarves and ironic t-shirts who rise eagerly for the daily Two-Minute Hates, shouting against racism, patriarchy, carbon, oil, corporate personhood and logos, gun rights, animal testing, heteronormative bathrooms and any of the endless list of things to be outraged by, without the ability to apply their denunciations to a moral code.

Oceanian propaganda was deliberately inconsistent so that none of its citizens developed a consistent code that might allow them to judge the system even by its own rules. Left-wing talking points tend to be like that, consistently inconsistent, willfully senseless, cultivating an instinct for mob rage, for hours of political analysis, but no steady rules of conduct that would apply to the analyzers.

The only consistent principle that we are good and they are bad. If you understand that Republicans are racists, that a cabal of corporations, zionists and christian fanatics are plotting to take over the country, and that they hate anyone who is different from them, then you have all the context that you need to understand the liberal message. Without that it's gibberish. With it, it's simplistic but comprehensible propaganda.

Boiled down to its essence, the liberal message is that we are good people, because they are bad people. The new Democrats sticker which reads, "Not a Republican" aptly sums up this void. It follows that good people cannot be bad and that bad people cannot be good, and once you accept this message, no further ethics or morals are needed. The very goodness of your side is all the moral code you need.

Identity politics substitutes for a moral code, not so much racial politics as racial tolerance politics which holds that liberals are more ethical, because they are more tolerant, better people because they care. The only crime they are ever guilty of is caring too much. Even the Communists and the terrorists were just too outraged by all the capitalism, racism and zionism, and had no choice but to start shooting and starving people.

It's possible to spend years immersed in this swill without realizing that none of it is moral or ethical, that it's "They are bad, we are good" blaring from every radio and television set. Morality and ethics is about principles that apply across the board. When your only principle is that your group is good and your enemies are bad, then not only are you devoid of morals and ethics, but you are incapable of recognizing immoral and unethical behavior except with a gut instinct that your ideology has trained you to discard.

Cognitive dissonance sets in over everything from Communist gulags to Occupy Wall Street rapes, if things aren't supposed to happen, then they never did. When the ideological good confronts the real world bad, either ideology dies or morality dies. Historically it's more often been the latter than the former. Just ask one of the good Nazis or good Communists who had decent home lives, loved their children and pets, and kept on believing in everything except right and wrong.

When you take a bulldozer to traditional values, what takes its place is bulldozer ideology, the expedient virtue of bulldozing things and the virtue of whatever rises in their place. Once you believe in the bulldozer, then you must also believe in whatever mess follows in its wake, otherwise you are forced to take a long hard look at the virtue of the bulldozer. And once that happens, you are one step away from becoming a reactionary clinging to traditional values.

What has grown in the wake of the bulldozer is bulldozer ethics, situational ethics that justify the virtue of bulldozing things as a vital moral principle, disguising their appeal in calls to fairness, justice, decency, tolerance and a thousand other virtues that they never practice across the board.

Bulldozer values call forth explosive faux moral tantrums at anything that stands in front of the bulldozer. These tantrums can be seen on the late night news, on the front page of the New York Times, which long ago stopped relegating its moral tantrums and special pleading to the editorial page, on liberal blogs and a thousand other places. They don't however represent moral or ethics, only the virtue of the bulldozer-- the virtue of power.

The country must know about Romney's dog riding on top of the car. Why? Because it shows that Romney is a bad person. They must not know about Obama eating dogs, because it might make him 'wrongly' seem like a bad person. The only consistent value here is that of the bulldozer. Obama is driving the bulldozer, and so he must be protected, just the same way that the media protected Clinton in his own private war on women and their right to say no to being groped or propositioned, because back then he was driving the bulldozer. When Clinton briefly got in the way of Obama's bulldozer, then the media bulldozed him.

There is genuine anger over Romney's dog on their side, not because they care about dogs, though they often do, in the same detached way that they care about the Third World, but because they already believe that he is a bad person. Any anecdote that makes him a bad person feeds their anger. It isn't an outrage based on principles, but on their burning hate for anyone who stands in front of the bulldozer. They already know that all such people are bad, any story that reinforces this feeds into an existing anger, much the same way that people who hate Jews, Christians, the Chinese, women or dog owners feed off selective incidents that fit their narrative. And they mistake their shoddy bigotry for moral outrage.

When your only moral value is that of the bulldozer and its destructive rampage, then you have all the moral values of your chosen instrument. The moral tantrums are destructive, rather than constructive, they never seem to fulfill their stated mission of healing America and making it a better place (unless you consider provoking multiple racist attacks over the Zimmerman case to be that) but like driving a bulldozer into someone's house, they make them feel good.

And that is what it's really all about. The ego. The moral power of the self. The destruction of the old by people who are convinced that they are the new order. That they are the young, even when they are old. That the destruction they leave in their wake is really construction. And that anyone who thwarts their destructive impulses is the enemy and that destroying him is an absolute good.

These are the morals of the bulldozer and the values of liberal America.

Bank of America tells gun manufacturer it no longer wants their business?

April 20, 2012 by Allahpundit

I'm thinking there has to be more to this story, not because I doubt that there are lefty corporate execs who find guns and gun owners loathsome but because from a business standpoint this is the highest of high insanity. My strong suspicion from years of following news on the right is that gun enthusiasts are the single most passionate interest group in conservative America. The barest whiff of some form of new regulation becomes an instant sensation online. If I ran a business they'd be the very last lobby I'd want to cross, just because they're ready, willing, and able to organize a mighty effective boycott. Surely BOA, a company that's headquartered in a southern city, knows the shinolastorm they'd be inviting if they pulled something like this.

And yet, here we are.

"McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking came to my office. He scheduled the meeting as an "account analysis" meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.

"At this point I interrupted him and asked "Can I possible save you some time so that you don't waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business."

"That is correct" he says...

"So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?"

Mr Fox confirmed that it was. At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing left for him to say.

Any reason to think that BOA really might make a politically motivated decision to cut ties with gun businesses? Well, maybe. Read Bob Owens's post at PJM for lots of interesting background on McMillan and BOA:

Bank of America was the recipient of well over 100 billion dollars in federal money. They are also one of just two vendors processing payments for Barack Obama's 2012 presidential campaign, employing a system that disables safeguards against illegal foreign donations. Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the site of the Democratic Nation Convention in September.

This is at least the third time Bank of America has implemented a discriminatory policy against gun manufacturers. In early 2001, a scandal erupted over the bank's attempt to discriminate against another Arizona-based company. The resulting public outrage forced a reversal of the policy.

In 2010, Bank of America attempted a similar action, and was again forced to "clarify" their position...

The boss emeritus devoted a column in January to BOA's longstanding relationship with the Democrats:

During the 2010 midterm elections, former DNC chairman and ex-Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine secured a $15 million revolving line of credit at BofA and then finagled another $17 million loan from the taxpayer-bailed-out bank. According to Federal Election Commission records, BofA accepted as collateral the DNC's donor mailing list. Yep, its donor mailing list for $32 million in loans. As investigative reporter Richard Pollock asked at the time: "What message does a largely unsecured $32 million credit line for the Democratic Party send to thousands of cash-starved small businesses across the nation who can't secure any credit even with tangible assets?"...

Bank of America is to sweetheart loans and Democratic Party payoffs as Paula Deen is to sugar and bacon grease:

- The massively troubled bank raked in a middle-of-the-night, taxpayer-funded $45 billion banking bailout in 2008 and an estimated $931 billion in secret federal emergency loans.

- In 2008, BofA's political action committee gave its biggest contributions to Barack Obama totaling $421,000.

Long story short: If the Democratic leadership needed a favor from BOA, the bank might be in a position where it felt obliged to comply even at the risk of some sort of political backlash on the right. And it's true that BOA will have a major presence at the convention this year - as noted above, it's being held in a stadium sponsored by the bank, in the city where BOA is headquartered - so in theory, there may be some pressure to divest from businesses that aren't simpatico with the Democratic message. But to believe that is to ignore electoral reality. There's a reason Obama, Pelosi, and Reid never went hard after guns when they had the numbers in Congress: It's a potentially lethal issue for them in swing states like Pennsylvania and Ohio, where there are blue-collar gun owners who are willing to vote Democratic for economic reasons so long as they have no more important reason not to. If you think I'm exaggerating, go read this recent op-ed by Ohio's Democratic former governor, Ted Strickland, attacking Romney on guns from the right. The last thing they'd want before the election, when they're trying to pick off working-class whites in rural areas from Romney, is to throw a gun-grab scare into them. I think it's more likely, actually, that BOA will get an angry call from a top Democrat telling them to knock this off than it is that they've gotten a call telling them to cut ties with gun owners. And no, there surely isn't any pressure from the lefty base squeezing Democrats on this. They looked the other way while Obama tore up the War Powers Act in order to go to war in Libya. If they're willing to tolerate that, do you really think they care who BOA does business with?

Exit question: What's really going on here, then? Does someone in BOA management hate gun manufacturers so much that they're willing to invite a boycott over it?

Peace, They Say: Bush congratulates Carter

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 01:29 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

We've had the great good fortune of hosting National Review's Jay Nodlinger in our home over the past two nights. He came to town to talk about his new book, Peace, They Say, a history of the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a brilliant, thought-provoking, enraging, inspirational, fascinating, moving book. Jay's presentation on the book at the Center of the American Experiment lunch yesterday was a great hit.

This morning I asked Jay to tell the vignette from the book in which he recounts the reaction of George W. Bush to the 2002 award of the prize to Jimmy Carter, an award the peace prize committee used to "kick Bush in the leg." Coming across this little story as I was reading the book, I found it to provide a sidelong glance at the magnanimity of President Bush. In the cinéma vérité video below (less than a minute), Jay briefly relates the vignette.

First thing in the morning, Bush called Carter to congratulate him. Bush told him, Jay relates, "this prize is ..." Please check it out.

Who's Funnier, Republicans Or Democrats?

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 12:50 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

No one in America has more experience at making fun of Democrats and Republicans, so Jay Leno's views on the parties' senses of humor are of interest:

Jay Leno, who celebrates his 20th anniversary as host of "The Tonight Show" this year, said on the political-humor spectrum, Republicans "laugh at themselves more" than their opponents across the aisle.

"Democrats and Republicans are interesting because Republicans really laugh at themselves more. Like when Bush came on, it was, 'We want to do a skit, we're kind of making fun of... - 'Yeah, go ahead!'" said Leno on NBC's "Press Pass" with David Gregory, who appeared on Leno's show earlier in April.

Former Vice President Al Gore wasn't quite as easy going on camera as former President Bush, according to Leno.

"We went up to Al Gore, 'can we do this skit?' - 'Hang on.' And there was this focus group, and then media people came in: 'Where will Al be sitting? Will Al have the punchline?," Leno said.

Lately Leno has had a lot of fun at Mitt Romney's expense, but in Leno's case it is fun, not hate, and politicians know the difference:

Despite jabs at the presumptive GOP nominee, Leno praised Romney's sense of humor.

"I like the fact that I can do weeks of Mitt Romney jokes, and Mitt Romney then comes here. Because I haven't insulted his religion...I mean I've made fun of him, but I haven't questioned his patriotism or his loyalty or his family," he said.

Interesting perspective, I thought.

A Practical Science Project?

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 09:54 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

Over at the New York Review of Books, physicist Steven Weinberg laments the decline in government funding for "big science," especially noting that the proposed James Webb telescope, a replacement for the aging Hubble telescope, is withering for lack of funding from Congress.  Well, here's an idea to get those "anti-science" Republicans to cough up the dough: combine the two telescopes into one!  Call it the "Webb Hubble telescope," after Bill Clinton's famous crony, and have the media use it to spot Democratic scandals like "Fast and Furious" that reporters somehow otherwise can't seem to find right under their nose.

And yes, you're right-it is a little early in the afternoon to be drinking.  Actually, Weinberg's article is pretty good, though it shows how government-sponsored science will always fall prey to pork barrel politics.

The State of the Race - What Might Change?

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 08:00 AM PDT

(Paul Mirengoff)

My view of the presidential race has been consistent during the past 15 months. Throughout that period, it has seemed to me that President Obama's re-election chances, assuming the Republicans nominate Mitt Romney, are between 45 and 55 percent. And so it seems now.

But more useful than odds-making is an analysis of what might cause the race, wherever it stands now, to change, and which candidate the change would likely benefit. The main thing that could change the race is what Harold Macmillan (and John Hinderaker) would call "events" - major developments that come more or less out-of-the-blue. However, by their nature we cannot reliably predict what these developments will be, how the candidates will react, and who they will favor.

We do know that economic developments could significantly alter the race. It seems likely that the economy will continue to improve over the next months, but that any improvement will continue to be very slight. Obama might gain in this scenario, but only marginally.

Mitt Romney's image might change, now that he's not under constant attack from his own party and now that he has more freedom to present himself as less stridently conservative. Swing voters may begin to notice that he looks presidential and seems knowledgeable and competent when it comes to economic matters.

But a stiff is a stiff. Since he stopped being governor, Romney has spent more than two years campaigning for president. If he had the ability to connect meaningfully with voters, we would have seen it manifested by now. Romney may gain as Republican support consolidates, but only marginally.

Oddly, it may be Obama, the incumbent, whose image changes significantly. Polls show that his personal popularity is what's keeping him afloat. Voters don't very much like his policies and his results, but they continue to like him.

The reasons are pretty straightforward. First, he made a great first impression, and such impressions tend to last. Second, people want to like their president. Third, people want to like the first black president.

As his presidency has faltered, though, Obama has become increasingly irritable and negative. It's unlikely that many voters have noticed because few follow the day-to-day utterances of the president.

But the electorate pays attention during the final months of the campaign, and especially during the presidential debates. If they see the whiney, defensive, and nasty side of Obama, he will pay a price.

In theory, Obama should be able to avoid this pitfall. His surrogates can do the attack dog thing, while he takes the high road. As for the debates, history shows that the sitting president is allowed one bad debate, especially if it's the first one. So Obama just needs to keep his inner nasty partisan in check for a few hours.

But Obama's arrogance works against him here. This is the man who famously proclaimed himself a better speechwriter than his speechwriters, a better political director than his political director, etc.

Presumably, he also considers himself a better attack dog than his attack dogs. If Obama continues to sense that his presidency may be slipping away, he is unlikely to leave to others the dirty work he feels is needed to preserve it.

The adverse consequences of such self-indulgence may well be more than marginal.

Local Fighter Just Misses on Showtime

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 07:23 AM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

Caleb Truax, a middleweight, is Minnesota's top professional boxer. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he was undefeated until last night. My son Eric got to know Truax when they were training in the same gym, and they have remained friends. So we were excited when Caleb signed to fight Jermain Taylor in a ten-round, main-event Friday night bout on Showtime.

Taylor, the former undisputed middleweight champion of the world, is one of the most talented boxers of his generation. He has beaten Bernard Hopkins twice. But in 2009, he was knocked out by Germany's Arthur Abraham and was hospitalized for a concussion. After taking two years off from the ring, Taylor is now on a much-hyped comeback trail.

Taylor is from Arkansas and is extremely popular there. Caleb agreed to fight Taylor in the South, but not in Arkansas, so last night's fight was in Biloxi, Mississippi. At the weigh-in, Taylor made weight easily, an ominous sign for Truax's fans. Taylor was, I believe, a 4-1 favorite.

Caleb, who had never boxed anyone in Taylor's class, had a good plan for the bout. He intended to fight the early rounds defensively, not taking any chances, while he felt Taylor out and got accustomed to his hand speed. In recent years, Taylor has tended to falter in the late rounds, so Truax thought that if he survived the early rounds and made Taylor expend a lot of energy, he would have a chance to break through toward the end of the fight.

Caleb executed his plan well, and it almost worked. Taylor swept the early rounds, but Truax's defense was solid and he was never hurt. At the same time, he had trouble landing punches with any consistency. Then, in the 9th, Truax saw the opportunity he had been waiting for. Taylor got lazy with a jab, and Caleb sent him to the canvas with a short, crushing right hand. He missed with a left as Taylor was going down; if the left had connected, the fight would have been over.

At that point, we-Eric, his roommate, my wife and youngest daughter and I-were on our feet cheering. (Well, the guys were, anyway.) The knockdown came at the beginning of the round, and it didn't seem likely that Taylor could survive. But he benefited from a long count-we thought it was at least two seconds too long-and managed to hold on. At that point, Truax was as tired as Taylor, and in a spirited final round he was unable to finish him off. In the end, Taylor won rather easily on points.

Still, it was a good night for Truax. He went the distance with a world-class fighter and still, after 20 professional fights, has never been knocked down. A true Minnesotan, he says he plans to buy a fishing boat with part of the fight's proceeds. Caleb is a bright young man who has a good future outside the ring. But for now, having come within a hair of knocking out the former middleweight champion, he ought to be able to continue getting some lucrative bouts.

Food Stamp Rolls to Grow Through 2014, CBO Says

By Damian Paletta | April 19, 2012

The Congressional Budget Office said Thursday that 45 million people in 2011 received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, a 70% increase from 2007. It said the number of people receiving the benefits, commonly known as food stamps, would continue growing until 2014.

Click for larger CBO infographic.

Spending for the program, not including administrative costs, rose to $72 billion in 2011, up from $30 billion four years earlier. The CBO projected that one in seven U.S. residents received food stamps last year.

In a report, the CBO said roughly two-thirds of jump in spending was tied to an increase in the number of people participating in the program, which provides access to food for the poor, elderly, and disabled. It said another 20% "of the growth in spending can be attributed to temporarily higher benefit amounts enacted in the" 2009 stimulus law.

CBO said the number of people receiving benefits is expected to fall after 2014 because the economy will be improving.

"Nevertheless, the number of people receiving SNAP benefits will remain high by historical standards," the agency said.

It estimated that 34 million people, or 1 in 10 U.S. residents, would receive SNAP benefits in 2022 "and SNAP expenditures, at about $73 billion, will be among the highest of all non-health-related federal support programs for low-income households."

Climate Alarmist Calls For Burning Down Skeptics' Homes

"Let's start keeping track of them...let's make them pay"

Paul Joseph Watson

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Writing for Forbes Magazine, climate change alarmist Steve Zwick calls for skeptics of man-made global warming to be tracked, hunted down and have their homes burned to the ground, yet another shocking illustration of how eco-fascism is rife within the environmentalist lobby.

Comparing climate change skeptics to residents in Tennessee who refused to pay a $75 fee, resulting in firemen sitting back and watching their houses burn down, Zwick rants that anyone who actively questions global warming propaganda should face the same treatment.

"We know who the active denialists are - not the people who buy the lies, mind you, but the people who create the lies. Let's start keeping track of them now, and when the famines come, let's make them pay. Let's let their houses burn. Let's swap their safe land for submerged islands. Let's force them to bear the cost of rising food prices," writes Zwick, adding, "They broke the climate. Why should the rest of us have to pay for it?"

As we have profusely documented, as polls show that fewer and fewer Americans are convinced by the pseudo-science behind man-made global warming, promulgated as it is by control freaks like Zwick who care more about money and power than they do the environment, AGW adherents are becoming increasingly authoritarian in their pronouncements.

Even as the science itself disproves their theories - Arctic ice is thickening, polar bears and penguins are thriving, Himalayan glaciers are growing - climate change alarmists are only becoming more aggressive in their attacks against anyone who dares question the global warming mantra.

Earlier month we highlighted Professor Kari Norgaard's call for climate skeptics to be likened to racists and 'treated' for having a mental disorder. In a letter to Barack Obama, Norgaard also called on the President to ignore the will of the people and suspend democracy in order to enforce draconian ecological mandates.

But that's by no means represents the extreme edge of eco-fascist sentiment that has been expressed in recent years.

In 2010, UK government-backed global warming alarmist group 10:10 produced an infomercial in which children who refused to lower their carbon emissions were slaughtered in an orgy of blood and guts. After a massive backlash, the organization was forced to remove the video from their website and issue an apology.

The same year, 'Gaia hypothesis' creator James Lovelock asserted that "democracy must be put on hold" to combat global warming and that "a few people with authority" should be allowed to run the planet because people were too stupid to be allowed to steer their own destinies.

In 2006, an environmental magazine to which Al Gore and Bill Moyers had both granted interviews advocated that climate skeptics who are part of the "denial industry" be arrested and made to face Nuremberg-style war crimes trials.

ClimateDepot.com's Mark Morano is encouraging AGW skeptics to politely inform Steve Zwick ( info@ecosystemmarketplace.com) that calling for people who express a difference of opinion to be tracked and have their houses burned down is not a rational argument for the legitimacy of man-made global warming science.

Indeed, it's the argument of a demented idiot who's obviously in the throws of a childish tantrum over the fact that Americans are rejecting the global government/carbon tax agenda for which man-made global warming is a front in greater numbers than ever before.

If Zimmerman's Head Is Bloody, Charges Shouldn't Have Been Filed

The chant during the OJ trial was, "if the glove don't fit, then vote to acquit." In the Trayvon Martin killing, the legal system should focus on the wounds of George Zimmerman. Now that the bloody photographs of the back of George Zimmerman's head have been released, we must ask why he was charged with [...]

Organization representing 1 million Pennsylvania Christians supports Catholics on HHS mandate

by Ben Johnson

  • Fri Apr 20, 2012

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, April 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) - An organization representing one million Christians in southwestern Pennsylvania has pledged its support for the Roman Catholic bishop and asked the Obama administration to change the law requiring religious institutions to provide contraception and abortion-inducing drugs in their health care plans.

The Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania, a group representing 2,000 congregations and 26 denominations in ten counties in the region, released a statement last Friday expressing anxiety about the HHS mandate.

The diverse body said its opposition did not spring from theological opposition to birth control but out of respect for American traditions enshrined in her founding document.

"Our deep concern overt his mandate does not arise from the varying convictions we have about the moral content of the mandate, but from our common commitment to the right of religious freedom that all people of faith expect to enjoy in this country," the statement reads. "The Constitution of the United States guarantees every religious institution and its affiliated bodies the inalienable right to define its own identity and ministries and to practice its own beliefs, not just freedom of worship." (Emphasis in original.)

The ObamaCare regulation puts faithful employers "in the untenable position of a) violating their consciences, b) ceasing health insurance and paying ruinous fines, or c) withdrawing entirely from providing social services to the wider community that have long been a hallmark of their social justice ministry."

"Creating gaping holes in the public welfare safety net is in and of itself an immense injustice," it says.

It concludes by asking the Obama administration "to alter the 'Preventative Services Mandate' to broaden the religious exemption within it so that both the constitution right to the free exercise of religion...may not be impaired."

ACLU Fails to Establish Right to Porn

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published April 19, 2012 on The Washington Times website.

Wenatchee, Wash., famous for apples and wine, may become famous in the culture wars as well. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) just took it on the chin there over its ongoing campaign to force public libraries to accommodate perverts in raincoats.

On April 11, Judge Edward F. Shea of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington upheld the local library system's computer filter policy, dismissing a motion filed by the ACLU to turn off the filter.

The ruling in Bradburn v. North Central Regional Library District was based on the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), a law Congress passed in 2000 and the U.S. Supreme Court upheld in 2003 that requires libraries receiving federal funds to deny access to obscenity and child pornography.

The Laughable Economic Fallacies Embraced by Progressives

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published April 19, 2012 on Forbes.com.

Persistent economic fallacies hurt working people and the poor the most. They are the ones most in need of the new jobs and higher wages that capital investment and economic growth produce. And they suffer the most from unemployment and declining wages and incomes when the economy falters. Self-styled Progressives are the source of the economic fallacies that are hurting working people and the poor today.

One common fallacy popular among self-proclaimed Progressives is to reply to the point that America now has the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world at nearly 40% with the counter that the average effective corporate tax rate is only around 25%. But it is the marginal tax rate on the next dollar earned, not the average rate, that influences new investment, business expansion, and hiring.

Pro-growth tax reform would involve reducing that top rate in return for closing many of the loopholes that make the average rate so much lower. The average rate would rise as a result. But the lower marginal rate would increase incentives for more capital investment, business expansion and job creation.

Stand Your Ground, America

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published April 18, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

How do you stand your ground if you are lying on your back getting pummeled in the face?

That one question alone shows that Stand Your Ground laws are not at issue in the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin controversy. But the tragic death of young Trayvon is only seen by those on the left as a valuable media opportunity to further exploit the millions of gullible Americans to advance the left's political interests and agenda. Indeed, we have some people in positions of influence, both leading politicians and figures in the major media, who see their interest as exploiting the death to incite race unrest across America.

There is only one solution to this budding insurrection. Enforce the damn law!! That applies most directly in Florida now, where conservatives are in power, and they have to start acting like it.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 200 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Keep The Change!

During a visit to Dearborn, Michigan, this week, Barack Obama told his audience, "In just three years, because of what you did in 2008, we've begun to see what change looks like." Oddly enough, some in the audience thought that was an applause line. It's more like a punch line to a bad joke. In my opinion, the past three years have been a gut punch to our country.

Let's consider the change we've experienced in the past three years:

  • In January 2009, the unemployment rate was 7.8%. Now it's 8.2%.
  • In January 2009, the average price for a gallon of gas was $1.86. Now it's $3.92.
  • In January 2009, the national debt was approximately $10.6 trillion. Today it's $15.6 trillion.
  • ObamaCare, the president's signature accomplishment, is deeply unpopular -- 72% of Americans oppose the individual mandate and 56% want it repealed.
  • Food stamp usage is up 70% since the Bush years. (The annual cost of this one program is 16 times the revenue that would be raised by the so-called Buffett rule.) And disability claims are up dramatically too.
  • After three years of Obama's change, only 35% of voters think America's best days are ahead of us and just 27% think the country is on the right track.

Obama can keep his change. What we need most is a change of leadership in the White House!

Are the Democrats Unraveling?

When a strong president is cruising toward reelection, members of his own party usually aren't eager to buck him or bash his signature accomplishment. But that's exactly what is happening to Barack Obama right now.

This week, 69 House Democrats broke ranks and voted to mandate construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The bill passed the House by a veto-proof margin. As Byron York notes in the Washington Examiner, 11 Senate Democrats voted for the pipeline last month. Its supporters are very close to the 60 votes needed to bust Harry Reid's filibuster.

Even the New York Times admits this is a losing battle: "President Obama is finding himself increasingly boxed in on the Keystone pipeline fight as more Congressional Democrats are joining Republicans in backing the project, which has strong labor support and could generate significant numbers of jobs in economically hard-hit states."

And then there's ObamaCare. The Washington, D.C., publication The Hill reports that some Democrats are expressing "buyers' remorse" over ObamaCare, and their comments "reflect rising anxiety ahead of November's elections." Consider some of their comments:

Rep. Brad Miller (D-N.C.): "I think we would all have been better off -- President Obama politically, Democrats in Congress politically, and the nation would have been better off -- if we had dealt first with the financial system and the other related economic issues and then come back to healthcare."

Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA): "It did hurt us, there's no doubt about it. The climate out there was really ugly because of it."

Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA): "I think we paid a terrible price for health care. I would not have pushed it as hard. As a matter of fact, after Scott Brown won, I suggested going back. I would have started with financial reform but certainly not health care."

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA): "I'll be real frank here. I think that the manner in which the health-care reform issue was put in front of the Congress, the way that the issue was dealt with by the White House, cost Obama a lot of credibility as a leader."

There's a common thread among all these Democrats who are complaining now: They are all retiring and running for the exits before November 6, 2012.

More OWS Anti-Semitism

As the Occupy Wall Street movement gears up for another summer of protests, park occupations and worse, the anti-Semitism that is so rife within the movement is once again rearing its ugly head. Check out this cartoon that was posted on the OWS Facebook page.

The media romanticize Occupy Wall Street as a 21st century civil rights movement, but there is so much that is wrong with it. It is motivated in part by envy. Its utopian ideas are impractical. It is prone to violence and attracts criminals.

Israel's "Peace" Partner

After Hamas merged with the Palestinian Authority last year, Congress took steps to cut off funding to the Palestinian Authority. But Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently released another $150 million of your hard-earned tax money over the objections of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).

The State Department insisted the money was necessary in order to provide "critical support to the Palestinian people and those leaders seeking to combat extremism within their society." We should demand an immediate refund.

Moussa Abu Marzouk is Hamas' second-highest ranking official. He recently granted an interview with the Jewish Daily Forward during which he stated that any agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority would be treated as a "hudna" or cease-fire, rather than as a peace treaty. "We will not recognize Israel as a state," Marzouk said emphatically.

Israel's enemies are not interested in peace with Israel. Nor will they be satisfied with a piece of Israel. They want all of Israel. They want the Jewish state eliminated and replaced by Hamastan. And, of course, the ultimate target is America -- the "great Satan."

NYT: Food Deserts don't exist
Last night on GBTV Glenn showed how the NYT is exactly correct -- food deserts that Michelle Obama worries about do not exist. The Times further discovered that even if they did exist, it has nothing to do with obesity. So why are we spending half a billion dollars on fighting something that doesn't exist and wouldn't matter if it did? Glenn has more.

Ted Nugent meets with Secret Service, talks with Glenn about it
Ted Nugent finally met with Secret Service yesterday after much media hype surrounded the meeting. Did the oh-so-violent singer contain his rage? Or was he the polite, honorable, intelligent man he usually is? Nuge talks about the meeting and more on radio today.

Keith Olbermann wanders aimlessly in Central Park: No one approaches him, no one talks to him. No fans, no friends. See the sad spectacle.

Great programming for kids on GBTV! LIBERTY TREEHOUSE steps outside the box, for a special look at Americans -- young and old, famous and less-well-known -- who not only saw the world through an imaginative lens, but came up with inventive ways to make it better! Inquiring minds are welcome to visit, every weekday at 4:30pm ET or available on demand!
