Founding Fathers

Quote:

"Give up money, give up fame, give up science, give the earth itself and all it contains rather than do an immoral act. And never suppose that in any possible situation, or under any circumstances, it is best for you to do a dishonorable thing, however slightly so it may appear to you... From the practice of the purest virtue, you may be assured you will derive the most sublime comforts in every moment of life, and in the moment of death."

~ Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, 1785

Act! for America

On behalf of everyone at the ACT! for America family, we want to wish a happy Passover to our Jewish friends and supporters...

...and a blessed Easter to our Christian friends and supporters.

Always devoted,

Brigitte Gabriel

After reviewing acknowledgments of God from all 50 state constitutions, one is faced with the prospect that maybe, the ACLU and the out-of-control federal courts are wrong! If you found this to be 'Food for thought' send to as many as you think will be enlightened as I hope you were.
(Please note that at no time is anyone told that they MUST worship God.)

The Meaning and History of the Constitution

and all Americans.

Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.

Hillsdale College

The U.S. Constitution

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader.   Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.

What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.

The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.

There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.

But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.

Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.

If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.

But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.

Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.

Thanks,

John Ryan

We're going to Washington, D.C. to stand with Israel

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

  • We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
  • We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
  • We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
  • We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.

We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!

Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.

The time to speak out for Israel is now!
Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

John Stossel - May 2, 2012

The Union League of Philadelphia
Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

John Stossel

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed," argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

This event is co-sponsored by The Union League of Philadelphia

TOWNHALL IN BUCKS COUNTY

7:00-8:30 pm

Quakertown, PA

What:  Town Hall with Sam Rohrer, sponsored by Citizens for Constitutional Government

When:  Tuesday, April 10, 7pm

Where:  Quakertown Library, 401 W. Mill St, Quakertown

Patriots,

SAM ROHRER NEEDS YOUR HELP IN SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT HIS CANDIDACY FOR U.S. SENATE in the Republican Primary on April 24.

PLEASE PRINT the FAITH & FREEDOM LETTER attached addressed to Pastors and GIVE TO YOUR PASTOR (and other pastors in your area) THIS WEEK.   Let him know of Sam's Christian character and integrity in office.  Ask if there is any avenue by which he and/or you could let the church folks know of Sam (email, flyers in lobby, post a flyer on a bulletin board, church bulletin?).

I also gave our pastor the handout on the Life, Marriage, and Educaton policies Sam supported.  How about printing out enough copies of this handout for your Sunday School group and/or handing them out to your friends at your child's private school or in Bible study, Awanas, or prayer groups?

Know any homeschoolers?  The Michael Farris letter is specifically directed to homeschoolers, but also reminds us of Sam's  record as a Constitutionalist and the importance of this race and our involvement.

Please forward the message below with the attached flyers to all pro-life, people of faith and traditional values, Christian school parents, and homeschoolers you know.    Thank you for supporting this courageous champion of liberty,  Jaime

During his time in office, there was no greater champion of morality, the protection of life and the family, religious liberty, school choice, and homeschooling than SAM ROHRER.....Please read the attached letters of endorsement and information sheets and pass them on.  Also, watch the video clips in the links below to hear of Sam's stand on life, freedom, and faith in his own words.

Check out Sam's great website at www.rohrerforsenate.org for more information.  To support Sam's election effort, follow the links on his website to donate or volunteer your time (making calls from home, passing out literature, putting up signs, and/or passing out info at the polls).  Please spread the word to all your friends and family.

Michael Farris endorsement of Sam Rohrer

Yes, Senator Demint has asked that Sam's supporters flood his Senate Conservatives Fund with calls and emails to endorse Sam.

ONLY WE can prove that the grassroots can be relied on to carry Sam to victory over Casey!!  ONLY an outpouring of patriots' support can give Senator Demint the verification he needs to silence the skeptics and throw the political clout and financial resources of his Senate Conservatives Fund behind Sam.

This is the EASIEST thing Sam has asked his supporters to do - All you have to  do is click on the links below and say  "Please endorse Sam Rohrer for U.S. Senate."  WE MUST NOT FAIL SAM NOW THIS CLOSE TO VICTORY!!   Jaime

https://www.facebook.com/scfpac

Team, please use the link above to go to Senate Conservatives Fund on Facebook. Let Jim Demint know you support Sam and that he should too.  HE WANTS US TO DO THIS.

Hit him here too: https://www.facebook.com/jimdemint?ref=ts&__adt=3

So far there are five entries on Sam's behalf. That won't do it. Please. This is an easy one. Let's go to work on it!

Resources on 2nd & 10th Amendments for Rohrer outreach to Gun and Fish & Game clubs, gunshops, Constitutionalists

To: Patriots for Sam!

     Please pass this on.....

With this great endorsement from Gunowners Of America (see attachment), gun owners and outdoorsmen, with their natural bent toward constitutional rights, are almost a given for Sam  IF THEY HEAR ABOUT HIM - - MANY STILL HAVE NOT.  NOW IS THE TIME to find out through friends or local gun shops when the local gun and F&G clubs have their monthly meetings.

Schedule now a visit to clubs who still have one meeting before April 24th; or convince a friend who is a member to speak for Sam at the club if you can't be there; or ask the president if he would mention Sam and pass the flyers around - they are usually very willing.  The attached letter of endorsement from Gunowners Of America is very convincing, focusing on 2nd amendment and 10th amendment.  Also, I would give him your contact info for any of his members that want to volunteer for Sam.

Following are a couple of good video clips from Sam's 2010 speeches to forward to people who care about these issues.   Ask the Gun/Fish & Game club officers if you can forward informational emails on SAM to their email network, then send the GOA letter, along with these video links.  Watch these yourself: Sam's GREAT responses will convince any gunowner that  he fundamentally understands and believes in the Second Amendment and the clips are short.

And don't forget the gun shops in your area:  drop off a Sam flyer to post there (Legislative checklist flyer is good too)

Also, we want to encourage anyone to whom we give info to go to his website, www.rohrerforsenate.org where they can find links to sign up to get email updates from the campaign, to volunteer (we NEED poll workers), and to donate.  Jaime

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

RedState Morning Briefing

For April 6, 2012

As is tradition at RedState, we post this text each Good Friday in lieu of a Morning Briefing.  Some things are more important than news and politics.

Have a blessed Easter weekend.

------------------------------------

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.  And sitting down they watched him there;  And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

. . . .

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.  And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.  Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.  And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Rejoice in the political incorrectness of Black Hawk Down where, for a body count of 19 Americans, at least 1,000 Somali jihadis are mown down by super trained and disciplined Army Rangers. Beware the Taxmageddon

Brace yourself. In a mere 271 days, you and your fellow Americans will be hit with a tax hike the likes of which this country has never seen. The Washington Post aptly called the unprecedented $494 billion tax hike "Taxmageddon," and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke described it as a "massive fiscal cliff." Whatever your preferred imagery, it's a really big deal.

Despite all the warnings, President Barack Obama has kept his silence while Congress has made no apparent effort to prevent this impending calamity to families and the economy. The prevailing wisdom is that "something will get done" in a lame duck session of Congress after the election. But why wait? And why after the election?

AFP is launching a project to urge lawmakers to cut spending in the appropriations process. As one of AFP's most engaged policy advocates, we're giving you a sneak peak.

Last year was a disappointment. The new Republican majority in the House started off pretty well: in April 2011 they passed Chairman Ryan's budget blueprint that called for $31 billion in discretionary spending cuts -- a small first step in the right direction.

(http://www.facebook.com/fightback)But just weeks later, members of the Appropriations Committee, many of whom voted for the Ryan budget, abandoned the plan and proposed cutting only $10 billion instead. After negotiating with the Senate behind closed doors, the final result was a measly $7 billion cut.

Unacceptable.

AFP is working to make this year different. Chairman Ryan's budget passed the House calling for another $15 billion in discretionary spending cuts. To help hold appropriators accountable for this goal, AFP is sending them a series of twelve memos -- one for each of the twelve appropriations bills -- reminding them how much they promised to cut.

Here's where we need your help. We want to hear what YOU think appropriators should cut. Right now on Facebook, AFP is running the second of twelve polls: what should we cut from the Department of Agriculture's budget? Click here to vote now (http://www.facebook.com/fightback) and we'll send the top three choices to appropriators as official AFP recommendations!

Check back frequently: we'll add a new poll covering a different area of the federal budget every Monday and Thursday and post all the results on AFP's new homepage for appropriations (http://www.americansforprosperity.com/appropriations).

The Stories We Tell

The story of the Naked Emperor is one of the most powerful stories we have because it is about the nakedness of our fictions, it is a story about the stories we tell, stories so widely accepted that they make the most naked lies possible.

Our bookstores and libraries have fiction and non-fiction sections, tightly delineating the difference between the two, and while it is polite to admire the authors in the fiction section for their inventive storytelling, it is riskier to go up to a New York Times journalist and compliment him for the same thing. But it is riskiest of all to treat a story that the media is telling us as nothing but a story.

That is something Stephanie Eisner, a cartoonist at the Daily Texan, a student newspaper at the University of Texas discovered, when she drew a little cartoon which depicted the Trayvon Martin case as a simplistic story being told by a maternal tabloid media to a gullible child. Accuse the storytellers of telling stories and they fight back with a story aimed at you. The story was that Eisner was a racist or as one student protest sign said, "The Daily Texan, Racist Since 1900". And how do you argue with that?

Allen West and Tom Rooney are forgetting their oath to "support and defend the Constitution"

Apr 05, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins

By George Spelvin, staff writer

Both Tea Party favorite Allen West and moderate Republican Tom Rooney are noticeable by their inaction on the findings of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's definitive six month long investigation into possible "fraud and forgery" of key Obama documents.

When asked if they were worried about a man having control of America's nuclear arsenal when his social security number was not passing an E verify check, press talkers of both sitting U.S. House of Representative members either said nothing or said this isn't as important as putting Americans back to work or doing something about high gas prices.  Besides, as Allen West's person said, "There's not enough time for Congress to do something (hold hearings)."

The two retired Army veterans now serving in Congress are taking no action on the refusal of Congress to investigate the problems surrounding Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as America's President even though they swore to oaths to protect ...     Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated APRIL 4, 1968.
Pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, he rose to national prominence through the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964, Congress set aside his birthday as a National Holiday.
Rev. King said August 28, 1963:
"Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children...Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity...
We must not allow our...protest to degenerate into physical violence...We cannot walk alone."
Rev. King continued:
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:

Leak at Department of Justice pulls White House deeper into Fast and Furious

Apr 04, 2012 01:01 pm | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

Last month FOX News reported that someone at Eric Holder's Department of Justice has been leaking information to Congressional committees about the Obama Regime's Mexican gunwalking enterprise Fast and Furious. ATF Investigation Reports (ROI's) which reached the offices of Senator Charles Grassley and Congressman Darrell Issa revealed gun runners and drug dealers to be secretly in the employ of the FBI.  And a Mexican illegal, already wanted on weapons charges, was shown to have been turned loose by a remarkably accommodating ATF agent. (1)

And now something new has been added to the mix.  On March 28th, Senator Grassley wrote Kathryn Ruemmler, Barack Obama's chief Counsel, to inform her that Congressional committees investigating Fast and Furious wanted to question Kevin O'Reilly, a former National Security Adviser to the President. (2)

O'Reilly's relationship to Fast and Furious first surfaced last year. Former Phoenix ATF office Agent in Charge Bill Newell admitted under questioning ... Continue Reading:Leak at Department of Justice pulls White House deeper into Fast and Furious

Mark Stevens: A Profile in Courage

By Jeffrey Lord

Threatened for sticking with Rush, defiant advertiser declares "Battle for America."

In whatever arena of life one may meet the challenge of his conscience -- the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men -- each man must decide for himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can define that ingredient -- they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provide inspiration. But they cannot supply courage itself. For this each man must look into his own soul.

- John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage

Mark Stevens was 17 years old when his father died.

A self-described "lower middle class" rebellious kid from Queens, when Mark went about the task of ordering his father's affairs, he discovered his father's bank account -- containing $84. He was told that his best option was "to go on welfare."

Marks Stevens had another idea. Said Stevens in an interview with The American Spectator: "I knew then at 17 I wasn't going on welfare." If Mark was going to achieve anything in life, he would have to be responsible for making that happen.

He made it happen.

Sudan Transforming to Next Iran; Gives 500,000-Plus Christians One Week to Leave

by:Ryan Mauro
mapThe Sudanese regime is on its way to becoming the next Iran, regardless of whether President Omar Bashir remains in power or not. The country is moving towards becoming a full-blown sharia state, comparable to Iran, Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan under the Taliban. Towards that end, 500-700,000 Christians have been told to pack up and leave by April 8 or they'll be treated as foreigners.
The Bashir regime has always been an enemy of the U.S. and those who value human rights, but it is now doing everything it can to please its Islamist opposition. The regime knew it would raise the ire of the Islamists when it allowed the mostly-Christian region of South Sudan to become an independent country. In the hopes of staving off a rebellion, Bashir promised to remodel his country based on sharia law with Arabic as the only official language. He also promised not to seek another term in 2015.

America Rolls Out the Welcome Mat for Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood

Despite the fact that since 1995 Hamas is considered an illegal terrorist entity by the United States, the parent organization of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, has been invited to one of American's top universities.

The Brotherhood's 'Perception Management Team' Comes to Washington, D.C.

By Clare Lopez

Despite a platform that is liberally studded with words like "freedom," "justice" and "equality" that would make Thomas Jefferson proud, in practice, the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party is unlikely to stray far from sharia once firmly empowered by the new Egyptian constitution it will have the lead role in writing.

The Brotherhood's logo contains the Arabic word waidu (at the bottom of the circle), which means "prepare," and comes from the first word of Qur'anic verse 8:60, which tells Muslims to "Make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemy."

Obama As Dunce

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 03:14 PM PDT

(John Hinderaker)

Pretty much everyone is piling on President Obama in connection with his airy dismissal of the concept of judicial review. The Department of Justice backtracked today in the form of a letter from Eric Holder to the 5th Circuit panel that asked for clarification of DOJ's position on that topic. In his letter, Holder admits the obvious:

The power of the courts to review the constitutionality of legislation is beyond dispute. ... The Supreme Court resolved this question in Marbury v. Madison, 1 Cranch 137, 177-78 ( 1803). In that case, Case: 11-40631 Document: 00511812922 Page: 1 Date Filed: 04/05/2012 the Court held that " [i]t is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." Marbury, 1 Cranch at 177. ...

Where a plaintiff properly invokes the jurisdiction of a court and presents a justiciable challenge, there is no dispute that courts properly review the constitutionality of Acts of Congress.

Holder inserted the foreseeable boilerplate about statutes being entitled to a presumption of constitutionality, etc. No quarrel with that. But he concluded with this howler:

The President's remarks were fully consistent with the principles described herein.

But they were not. Obama said:

I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.

There is no way to put Obama's statement next to Marbury v. Madison and claim they are consistent. For Holder to assert that they are is almost childish.

Deep in Carter country

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 12:06 PM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

Quote of the day goes to Peter Wallsten and Robert Barnes, from their Washington Post article "Obama's Supreme Court comments lead some to question his strategy." Review this:

[T]he White House was forced to defend the assertion that overturning the health-care law would be unprecedented. According to the Congressional Research Service, the court through 2010 had ruled 165 times that laws passed by Congress were unconstitutional.

Obama himself agreed with some of those decisions, including 2008's Boumediene v. Bush, in which the court ruled 5-4 that the Military Commissions Act's suspension of the right of habeas corpus for Guantanamo Bay detainees was unconstitutional.

And Wednesday, the administration was in court in Boston explaining why it thinks the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional, although it was passed by bipartisan majorities and signed by a Democratic president.

When a Democratic president is becoming a laughingstock in a lead Washington Post political story, we're somewhere deep in Jimmy Carter country.

Today's Green Narrative Fail

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 11:30 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

So in today's #GreenFail news, it turns out a much-touted survey of college sustainability programs has proven to be, like, unsustainable, dude.  This is really going to harsh some mellows.  From the Chronicle of Higher Education:

The Sustainable Endowments Institute has announced that it is suspending its production of the College Sustainability Report Card. The report card was one of the first and most controversial of several sustainability-ratings systems that have popped up in recent years. It was followed by a slew of other ratings and rankings that attempted to grade colleges on their green efforts.

Meanwhile, the Globe and Mail in Canada reports that the number of polar bears dwindling rapidly because of global warming are . . . not dwindling.  Love the headline: "Healthy Polar Bear Count Confounds Doomsayers."

United States v. $35,131

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 08:22 AM PDT

(Scott Johnson)

Reader Rob Carty has directed our attention to this week's opinion by Judge Lynn N. Hughes of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas in the forfeiture case of The United States of America v. $35,131.00 in United States Currency. Mr Carty briefly summarizes the decision:

Judge Hughes spanked Homeland Security for tricking an American family into "evading" their duty to report how much cash they were taking out of the country. It contains some very choice words. My favorite quote: "In addition to overreaching the people whom they are to serve, three officers wasted one-half day watching four others embarrass themselves."

Here is my favorite quote:

A lack of leadership at the agency allowed this. Its mission statement - which none of the officers could recall at the trial - is to serve the American public with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism. They displayed none of these. The agency says that integrity is its cornerstone; that its officers are guided by the highest ethical and moral principles. A gang of armed security officers bullied this family - a family who cooperated with the officers to their detriment. Our homeland will not be secure by these rascals. They played agency games, abused the people they are to serve, and violated their oaths to support the Constitution.

Should We Break Up The Big Banks?

Posted: 05 Apr 2012 07:50 AM PDT

(Steven Hayward)

Here's a question for the Power Line Classroom to discuss: should we break up the big banks?

I've always been a skeptic of antitrust law and doctrine.  Over the decades antitrust activity has often been arbitrary, incoherent, and counterproductive.  The economic historian Jonathan R.T. Hughes, for example, once described the Sherman Act as "an institutional sumptuary law for business enterprise."  And one prominent legal scholar in the late 1970s emphasized the Machiavellian character of antitrust laws by comparing their working to the tradition of the frontier sheriff: "He did not sift the evidence, distinguish between suspects, and solve crimes, but merely walked the main street and every so often pistol-whipped a few people."  (That legal scholar's name?  Antonin Scalia.)  Many other scholars worked out persuasive analyses of antitrust that contend that antitrust laws actually reduced competition within American industry.

Welfare is Cool at "Food Stamp Friday" Party

Apparently government assistance is the hip new thing. As The Daily Caller reports, "A nightclub in Montgomery, Ala. is raising eyebrows by hosting a 'Food Stamp Friday' party on April 6 that seems to glamorize life on the federal government's food assistance program."

According to the article, patrons who present their food stamp cards at the door will pay a $5 cover charge to get into the Rose Supper Club in North Montgomery. And, as the invitation-which "mimics an Electronic Benefit Transfer card"-advertises "there will be 'free shots at the door.'"

Glamorizing government dependence disrespects those who fund welfare programs: U.S. taxpayers. It also disrespects recipients by completely distorting what the goal of any welfare program should be: to help individuals achieve independence from government assistance.

Since 2008, funding for food stamps has doubled from just under $40 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2008 to nearly $83 billion in President Obama's latest FY 2013 budget. The number of Americans participating in the program has also increased dramatically over the last several years and today stands at approximately 46 million Americans, or about 15 percent of the population. While participation rates have gone up more rapidly during the recession, the food stamp program was already one of the fastest-growing welfare programs prior to the economic downturn.

The food stamp program is just one of about 10 different federal food assistance programs and one of approximately 70 federal means-tested welfare programs funded by taxpayers-at a cost of nearly $1 trillion a year.

However, while taxpayers have been funding growing welfare costs for nearly five decades, these programs have done little to promote personal responsibility. The food stamp program, along with every other government welfare program-aside from the one reformed in 1996, which restructured the largest cash assistance welfare program-has no sound work requirement for its participants.

What made the 1996 welfare reform successful was its rigorous work requirement, which resulted in millions leaving welfare for jobs. (Unfortunately, the reforms have been severely weakened in recent years.) Similar requirements should be included for the food stamp program, as well as other government assistance programs.

Receiving government assistance should not be the "in" thing to do. Rather, welfare should truly assist those in need by promoting work and self-reliance.

Fix Health Care Policy - A weekly Update from the Health Care Initiative at The Heritage Foundation
Critics Are Wrong: Conservatives Have a Plan for Health Reform

Following last week's Supreme Court arguments, supporters of the President's health care law are once again criticizing opponents of the law for failing to offer their own alternative. They are wrong.

The Heritage Foundation, for example, has outlined a detailed and comprehensive approach to reforming health care in Saving the American Dream. There are four core elements of this conservative alternative.
Repealing Obamacare. Patient-centered, market-based health care is incompatible with the fundamental construct of Obamacare. Obamacare is based on turning more power over health care dollars and decisions to Washington. In sharp contrast, the Heritage plan is based on turning more power over health care dollars and decisions to individuals and families.

Reforming Health Care Entitlements. Medicare and Medicaid are in need of reform. The Heritage plan would transform Medicare and Medicaid into premium-support systems where seniors and low-income families can choose the health plans that best suit their personal needs. It also restores Medicaid as a true safety net to care for those with disabilities.

Restructuring the Tax Treatment of Health Insurance. Under the Heritage plan, taxpaying Americans would get a federal tax credit to help them buy health insurance for themselves and their families. Like life, home, and car insurance, individuals would own their health insurance policies and would no longer be at risk of losing their health coverage just because they change or lose a job. Moreover, if they don't like their health insurers, they can fire them.

Advancing Practical Insurance Market Reforms. The Heritage plan structures its insurance market reforms on a consumer-driven model, not a government-controlled model. Changes are made to complement and enhance a real consumer-based marketplace for health insurance, where insurers and providers are compelled to compete based on quality and price.

Conservatives looking for an alternative should start with these principles when formulating their proposals. For more detailed information on how to fix the debt, cut spending, and restore prosperity, read Saving the American Dream.

DOJ, liberal groups that oppose voter ID require photo ID to enter their buildings

by Rob Bluey | posted at 1:50 pm on April 5, 2012

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is currently blocking implementation of voter ID laws in South Carolina and Texas, claiming such measures are "unnecessary," discriminatory and would make it harder for minorities to vote.

But if you're planning to visit Holder's office in Washington, D.C., you better bring a photo ID. The Department of Justice has two armed guards stationed outside its headquarters to check IDs of anyone who wants to enter - employees and visitors.

Holder's politically motivated crusade against voter ID laws has the support of liberal advocacy organizations ranging from the Center for American Progress and Media Matters to the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the Advancement Project.

Each of these organizations has criticized photo identification for voting, yet they require it to enter their Washington, D.C., offices as well. There's even a sign in the building of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law: "ALL VISITORS MUST SHOW ID."

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 215 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

McConnell To Obama: Back Off!

Kudos to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell!

In a speech today to the Rotary Club of Lexington, Senator McConnell jettisoned his planned remarks on the economy and fired a broadside at Obama's attempt to impersonate Hugo Chavez when he attacked the Supreme Court. Here's an excerpt of McConnell's remarks:

"The President crossed a dangerous line this week. And anyone who cares about liberty needs to call him out on it. The independence of the Court must be defended. Regardless of how the justices decide this case, they're answerable, above all, to the Constitution they swore to uphold. ...

"So respectfully, I would suggest the President back off.  Let the Court do its work. Let our system work the way it was intended. The stability of our system and our laws and our very government depends on it."

Union Boss Slams Obama's EPA

As we reported last week, the EPA released a new regulation ostensibly intended to limit global warming pollutants. In reality it will ban construction of new coal plants. During a Tuesday radio interview, Cecil Roberts, president of the United Mine Workers of America, ripped into the regulation, saying:

"This rule is an all-out ... decision by the EPA that we're never going to have another coal-fired facility in the United States. ...Coal is the fastest growing energy source in the world and they've decided at the EPA we're going to control what goes into the atmosphere worldwide by halting the construction of coal fired facilities in the United States. It doesn't work, for one thing, and, the second thing, it is just devastating for our economy. ...The Navy SEALs shot Osama bin Laden in Pakistan and [EPA Administrator] Lisa Jackson shot us in Washington."

Ouch! Tough words, but Roberts is right. The United States gets nearly half of its electricity from coal. Shutting down coal plants will cause electricity prices to increase. Evan Tracey, a spokesman for the coal industry, said, "Americans are suffering, certainly, a lot of pain at the pump. They're going to start to learn what 'pain at the plug' means."

But bankrupting the coal industry and causing electricity prices to "necessarily skyrocket" is part of Barack Obama's plan to "fundamentally transform" America. And trust me, making electricity prices skyrocket won't transform the country for the better.

Energy is the lifeblood of our economy. High energy prices will not only kill the manufacturing sector, but think of the energy consumed by hospitals and high-tech companies. The cap and trade scheme that Obama and congressional Democrats pushed could have driven up gas prices to $7.00 a gallon and caused food prices to skyrocket too.

Thankfully, this horrible legislation failed to pass Congress. But now unelected bureaucrats at Obama's EPA are implementing these policies through the regulatory process.

America cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama!

The Left Becomes Unhinged

Coke, Walmart and the Trayvon Martin case are recent examples of how the radical left has become unhinged over its obsession with racial politics.

It was reported yesterday that Democrats and their liberal allies have launched a boycott of Walmart and Coke to protest voter ID laws. What do Walmart and Coke have to do with voter ID laws? According to the deranged left, voter ID laws are the evil spawn of ALEC.

What's that? You've never heard of ALEC? Unless you're a policy wonk, I'm not surprised.

To the left the American Legislative Exchange Council is a fringe right-wing think tank that dupes state legislatures into passing all sorts of nefarious legislation, including voter ID laws. In reality, ALEC is a great group of conservative state legislators and it is well within the mainstream of American politics.

As it turns out, Coke and Walmart are corporate sponsors of ALEC, so they must be punished. Never mind that voter ID laws are overwhelmingly popular. A June 2011 Rasmussen poll found that 75% of likely voters, including 63% of Democrats, support voter ID laws.

Innocent until proven guilty is the central pillar of our criminal judicial system. Tragically, it has not always been universally applied, and members of racial minority groups are particularly sensitive to that fact.

So it is particularly disturbing and hypocritical that members of the Congressional Black Caucus have introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives asserting that George Zimmerman's racism is responsible for Trayvon Martin's death.

(By the way, the CBC's resolution also condemns ALEC because it "promotes conservative public policy by affecting change in State legislatures.")

The claim that Zimmerman is racist is based on a poor recording of his call to 911. The media was quick to claim that Zimmerman used a racial slur in that call. Weeks later CNN has enhanced the recording and come to a different conclusion.

Here is what reporter Gary Tuckman said after listening to the enhanced recording:

"Now it does sound less like that racial slur. ... From listening in this room, and this is a state-of-the-art room, it doesn't sound like that slur anymore. It sounds like ... we're hearing the swear word at first and then the word 'cold.' And the reason some say that would be relevant, is because it was unseasonably cold in Florida that night and raining."

Unfortunately for George Zimmerman the court of public opinion has already declared him guilty.

Blaming Israel Again

There is a report in Israeli media that suggests domestic politics could be undermining Obama's resolve on Iran. Specifically, there are fears in Israel that the Obama administration is blaming the Jewish state for the recent spike in gas prices and Obama's subsequent drop in the polls. As a result, Obama appears reluctant to deal with Iran's growing nuclear ambitions. Such fears may well be justified.

Joe Biden recently suggested that one of the few things that could cause Obama to lose would be a foreign policy crisis like "something happening in the [Persian] Gulf, which could be difficult for us." In fact, during his AIPAC speech last month, Barack Obama said:

"Already, there is too much loose talk of war. Over the last few weeks, such talk has only benefited the Iranian government, by driving up the price of oil, which they depend on to fund their nuclear program. For the sake of Israel's security, America's security and the peace and security of the world, now is not the time for bluster."

Is Obama really bringing up the issue of oil prices out concern for Israel's security or for the sake of his own reelection?

Even as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was visiting the United States, Obama whined, "This notion that somehow we have a choice to make in the next week or two weeks or month or two months is not borne out by the facts."

Israel is facing an existential threat from a nuclear-armed Iran led by a madman who has repeatedly vowed to "wipe Israel off the map." The choice facing the tiny Jewish state is "Never Again" or a second Holocaust. I don't see where Obama's reelection factors into that choice. But somehow it's always about him, isn't it?

Pray For Chuck Colson

My good friend Chuck Colson suffered a brain hemorrhage last Friday and underwent surgery this weekend. According to a statement released by Prison Fellowship, the doctors are "pleased to see positive indicators of potential recovery."

From Watergate convict to Christian convert, Chuck's life is an incredible testimony to the transforming power of faith in Jesus Christ. He is one of today's leading Christian intellects and his ministry has changed so many lives.

Please keep Chuck, his wife, Patti, and the Colson family in your prayers this weekend.

A 'Global Minimum Tax' if Biden Gets His Way

By Mike Brownfield

If you think a "global minimum tax" sounds like a whacky conspiracy theory, you'd be wrong. According to Vice President Joe Biden, it's the answer for helping to spur manufacturing in the United States. Here are his remarks at a campaign event in Davenport, Iowa (in which he addresses the president of a manufacturing company).

"For years, American manufacturers have faced one of the highest tax rates in the world. We want to reduce that by over 20%. We want to drop the rate, particularly, for high-tech manufacturers like you, Mr. President, even further than the 20%.

"We want to create a global minimum tax, because American taxpayers shouldn't be providing a larger subsidy for investing abroad than investing at home."

His Royal Imperial Highness, Barack Obama II
By Ben Shapiro
President Barack Obama believes that America must be fundamentally transformed. The most important part of that transformation is the elevation of the presidency from a coequal branch of government to a pre-eminent branch of government. No wonder, then, that President Obama declared war on the Supreme Court this week.

Supreme Court Ruling Allows Strip-Searches For Any Arrest

by V2A | Written on April 3, 2012 | Filed under Constitution, Law

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled by a 5-to-4 vote that officials may strip-search people arrested for any offense, however minor, before admitting them to jails even if the officials have no reason to suspect the presence of contraband.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, joined by the court's conservative wing, wrote that courts are in no position to second-guess the judgments of correctional officials who must consider not only the possibility of smuggled weapons and drugs, but also public health and information about gang affiliations.

"Every detainee who will be admitted to the general population may be required to undergo a close visual inspection while undressed," Justice Kennedy wrote, adding that about 13 million people are admitted each year to the nation's jails.

The procedures endorsed by the majority are forbidden by statute in at least 10 states and are at odds with the policies of federal authorities. According to a supporting brief filed by the American Bar Association, international human rights treaties also ban the procedures.

AMNESTY ALERT: New Obama Amnesty rule gives 1 million illegals fast-track to legal status. See below.

Patriot,

The Obama Administration has once again created a "backdoor" amnesty that will give illegal immigrants access to Fast-Track legal status while they stay inside our borders.

Under a new Department of Homeland Security rule, illegals will be able to obtain a "Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver" that would allow illegal aliens with legal relatives (spouse, child, parent) in the U.S. to claim "extreme hardship" and thus file for the Amnesty Waiver without having to leave the country.

The end result is that under the rule illegal aliens who could otherwise be subject to a 3- or 10-year ban on re-entry into the U.S. can apply for their waiver while remaining in the United States and only have to leave the U.S. for as little as one week instead of months or years!

+ + 1 MILLION Illegals Expected To Gain Fast-Track Legal Status

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that an estimated 1 million illegals currently within our borders will be eligible to apply for a "Provisional" Amnesty Waiver, remain in our country pending review, and then gain permanent legal status after just a few days out of the country.

This is the latest example of our Liar-In-Chief talking a big game of border security and then implementing his radical, open borders, pro-illegal alien agenda through Executive Orders and administrative "Rule" changes.

+ + Help Stop Obama's Fast-Track Amnesty

This one rule change will put at least 1 million illegal aliens on the Fast-Track to legal status -- with virtually no "out of the country" requirement or penalties for the fact that they broke our laws and have been living in our country as fugitives.

Department of Homeland Security has opened up a formal comment period on this new rule change through June 1, 2012. Grassfire Nation is collecting petitions from citizens who oppose this new Amnesty Waiver and will deliver petitions to DHS prior to the comments deadline.

If you are outraged by Obama's latest Fast-Track Amnesty rule, go here to sign and have your petition included in the formal response that will be submitted to DHS:

http://www.grassfire.com/226/petition.asp?Ref_ID=600064

Below I've included links to the actual DHS "rule" and the Los Angeles Times article that explains how this will fast-track illegals.

Again... our Liar-In-Chief is implementing his amnesty agenda without any votes from Congress -- by a "rule" published quietly in the Federal Register (beginning on page 19902 to be precise!).

If you oppose Obama's Fast-Track Legal Status for 1 million illegal aliens, please sign the petition and then alert your friends.

Resurrection Day 2012: 'Jesus Was a Commie'?

Confusing Individual Responsibility With Statist Tyranny

"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." --Benjamin Franklin, "Management of the Poor" (1766)

JesusIn this Holy Week of Easter, one of the socialist communiqués destined for my "Know Thy Enemy" email folder was a promotion for a new "award-winning" film, "Jesus was a Commie." The film was described as "an avant-garde conversation about critical social issues," and it supports the errant pop-thesis that Jesus advocated socialism.

As absurd as that title is, liberal atheists and too many well-meaning but chronically nescient Christians regularly assert that the communist doctrines of Karl Marx equate with the teachings of Jesus Christ -- that the central message of Christianity supports socialism.

Most notable among this week's Easter crop of socialist propagators was Barack Hussein Obama, who was out stumping for income redistribution by invoking a Biblical reference from Genesis 4, "I am my brother's keeper," to promote "redistributive justice" for socialist welfare programs to benefit "the least of these" (Matthew 25). At the same time, Obama condemned free enterprise as "you're-on-your-own economics."

Obama elaborated that "spreading the wealth around," socialism, "coincides with Jesus' teaching that 'for unto whom much is given, much shall be required'" (Luke 12:48). Apparently in Obama's deluded interpretation of the Gospel, "Jesus was a Commie."

This fallacious equation of socialism and the Gospel of Jesus was also promoted by the father of American socialism, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who declared, "Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle." Of course both the Roosevelt and Obama references are paraphrases of the gospel according to Karl Marx, whose manifesto maxim was, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs."

In reality, there is no basis for this equation, as there is no instance when Jesus ever suggested, even in the broadest interpretation of the Gospel, that taking care of the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the weak, the widowed, the sick, the downtrodden, was the role of the state. There is no instance where any of the apostles or any of the prophets suggests that the state is a suitable surrogate for our individual responsibility to care for each other.

In fact, when the Biblical nation Israel desired a king (government) in the place of God, as outlined in I Samuel 8, our Creator warned that the price of choosing government over God would be death.

Moreover, Jesus always preached individual responsibility for our brothers and sisters, not collective statist mandates, and He made clear that the most impoverished among us are not the materially poor, but the poor in Spirit.

Obama preaches that the so-called socialist government gospel is "a reminder not only of what binds us together as a nation but also what binds us together as children of God." In reality, socialism is fatally flawed, and socialist advocates have succeeded only in binding generations of Americans to dependency upon the state.

Indeed, the failure of socialist doctrine was evident long before the word "socialism" became part of the common lexicon, as Benjamin Franklin noted in "Management of the Poor" written in 1766. Unfortunately, that lesson is lost on the Left today, as they endeavor to undermine the authority of our Constitution by replacing Rule of Law with rule of men and enact economic policies that are anathema to Liberty and appeal to the worst instincts of human nature.

Ironically, I would note in this Holy Week, which begins with the unjust crucifixion of Jesus by Pontius Pilate's government, in the 20th century, socialist governments crucified tens of millions of innocent men, women and children, both through murderous purges and deadly failures of centralized agricultural and economic planning.

Obama has devoted his entire political career to the resurrection of those same socialist doctrines. He now wants another presidential term to fully implement them in order to achieve his objective of "fundamentally transforming the United States of America," and if collective ignorance prevails, he may get it.

I think it's fair to conclude that Jesus was not a socialist or a capitalist, and for those predisposed to equate the central message of Christianity with Obama's Marxist doctrine, here are a few additional Gospel revelations to ponder.

Jesus emphasized the primacy of the individual as having unique value, each an irreplaceable soul, and each a unique personality bearing an individual imprinted fragment of the image of the eternal, infinite God. He preached that the individual is vastly more than a communal unit or a fractional piece of a socialist aggregate.

Jesus' teaching refuted materialism, while socialist doctrine is centrally concerned with materialism and its redistribution.

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus declares that no one "can serve two masters ... serve God and mammon" (materialism). Further, Matthew 6:25-34 tells us not to worry about material provision for life, those provisions about which socialists insist must be forcibly redistributed.

Also in Matthew 6, Jesus counsels, "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. ... When you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do ... that they may have glory from men." Conversely, socialism undermines individual acts of charity and the success of socialist politicians is predicated on public acts of "charity," funded through the forcible usurpation of wealth.

Central to the teaching of Jesus in regard to the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), the wealthy young man (Matthew 19:16-30), taxation and tithing (Matthew 22:15-22), the widow's mites (Luke 21:1-4) and "everything in common" (Acts 4:32-37), is the fundamental principle of individual responsibility for each other as opposed to statist collective responsibility.

Fortunately, the authentic Gospel message, including the story of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, transcends all the earthly machinations of evil men. As Jesus told Pontius Pilate (John 18:36): "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but My kingdom is not from here."

To that end, I invite you to read the Good News about Jesus.

"On the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, 'Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.'" --Luke 24:1-6

Ronald Reagan offered these words to skeptics: "I still can't help wondering how we can explain away what to me is the greatest miracle of all and which is recorded in history. No one denies there was such a man, that he lived and that he was put to death by crucifixion. Where ... is the miracle I spoke of? Well consider this and let your imagination translate the story into our own time -- possibly to your own home town. A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father's shop. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father's shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside, walking from place to place, preaching all the while, even though he is not an ordained minister. He never gets farther than an area perhaps 100 miles wide at the most. He does this for three years. Then he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal, so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing -- the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place for him so he is interred in a borrowed tomb. End of story? No, this uneducated, property-less young man has, for 2,000 years, had a greater effect on the world than all the rulers, kings, emperors; all the conquerors, generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who have ever lived -- all of them put together.

How do we explain that -- unless He really was what He said He was?"

However you choose to worship, if you choose to do so at all, let us all be grateful that we are free to do so because generations of American Patriots have steadfastly defended Liberty against the rise of tyranny, in particular the spread of the insidious socialist oppression advocated by those who seek to enslave others.

Wis. Gov. Walker: Opponents Attacking My Family

By Henry J. Reske | Thursday, 05 Apr 2012 10:49 AM

Wisconsin's bitter recall battle has become so bad that Gov. Scott Walker's family members have been targeted by his opponents. Walker, in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, said his children and his mother were yelled at while out shopping and his children targeted on Facebook.

"I have thousands of people bussed in to my home in Wauwatosa where I've got two high school sons living, and I've got parents in their 70s," he said in an interview on The Brody File. "Last year, my 16-year-old and my mother in her 70s were at a grocery store and got yelled at. I've had my kids targeted on Facebook; we've had all those sorts of things."

The Republican governor, who along with a number of state officials faces a recall election in June, sparked the controversy when he pushed through a law that limited collective bargaining rights for many public employees. Opponents gathered 1 million signatures to force the recall.

Walker noted that the amount of support he receives from well-wishers far exceeds the negative comments.

" Now, thankfully for every one of them, there's tenfold people that come up to me at a factory or a farm or small business and say, hey Governor, me and my family are praying for you," he said during the interview. "That never makes the news."

Obama's Confidence Hints at Hidden Powers Shaping Election

Da-PrezPresident Obama's on a roll this week.

First, he tells the Supreme Court it doesn't have authority to overturn his healthcare plan, then he tells a group of clergy at a White House Easter breakfast how great it was to celebrate "a son of God" (probably thinking he's one, too), then he tops it off by telling the media how to report on him and his activities.

"As all of you are doing your reporting," Obama told reporters, "I think it's important to remember that the positions that I am taking now on the budget and a host of other issues, if we had been having this discussion 20 years ago or even 15 years ago would have been considered squarely centrist positions."

ZOA News Release

ZOA Urges Clarification in Light of U.S. Law

State Dept. Refuses to Recognize J'lem as Israeli Capital

at Press Conference

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has called upon the U.S. State Department to clarify that it recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in accordance with U.S. law, following a press briefing by departmental spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, who refused to confirm the fact.

In her March 28 press briefing, Ms. Nuland, when asked by a reporter, "Is it the State Department's position that Jerusalem is not part of Israel?," refused to say that it was. Instead, Ms. Nuland said "With regard to our Jerusalem policy, it's a permanent status issue; it's got to be resolved through negotiations between the parties." When further pressed, "Is it the view of the United States that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, notwithstanding the question about the [U.S.] Embassy, the location of the Embassy [which, under a 1995 law, should be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but which is subject to six-month waivers that have been invoked by Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama]," Ms. Nuland persisted in her refusal to answer the question:

MS. NULAND: Jerusalem is a permanent status issue; it's got to be resolved through negotiations.

QUESTION: That seems to suggest that you do not regard Jerusalem as the

capital of Israel. Is that correct or not?

MS. NULAND: I have just spoken to this issue --

QUESTION: No, no. But --

MS. NULAND: -- and I have nothing further to say on it.

QUESTION: You've spoken to the issue but didn't answer the question, and I

think there's a lot of people out there who are interested in hearing a real

answer and not saying - and not trying to duck and say that this has got to

be resolved by negotiations between the two sides.

MS. NULAND: That is our --

QUESTION: What is the capital of Israel?

MS. NULAND: Our policy with regard to Jerusalem is it has to be solved

through negotiations. That's all I have to say on this issue.

QUESTION: What is the capital of Israel?

MS. NULAND: Our Embassy, as you know, is located in Tel Aviv.

QUESTION: So does that mean that you regard Tel Aviv as the capital of

Israel?

MS. NULAND: The issue on Jerusalem has to be settled through negotiations.

...

QUESTION: I just want to go back to - I want to clarify something.

MS. NULAND: Yeah.

QUESTION: Perhaps give you an out on your Jerusalem answer. Is it your

position that all of Jerusalem is a final status issue or do you think - or

is it just East Jerusalem?

MS. NULAND: Matt, I don't have anything further to what I said 17 times on

that subject. Okay?

QUESTION: All right. So hold on - so - I just want to make sure, you're

saying that all of Jerusalem, not just East Jerusalem, is a final status

issue?

MS. NULAND: Matt, I don't have anything further on Jerusalem to what I've

already said. (Victoria Nuland, Spokesperson, Daily Press Briefing, Washington, DC

March 28, 2012).

The Jerusalem Embassy Act, passed by the U.S. Congress on October 23, 1995, by an overwhelming vote of 93 to 5 in the Senate and 374 to 37 in the House of Representatives, rejects the past American practice of maintaining the U.S. Embassy to Israel in Tel Aviv and mandates its relocation in Jerusalem. It also holds that "Jerusalem should remain an undivided city in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are protected" and that "Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of the State of Israel." Israel annexed the eastern portion of Jerusalem in 1967 and confirmed the fact with its 1980 Jerusalem Law.

Jerusalem is mentioned over 600 times in the Hebrew Bible, but not even once in the Muslim Quran. During the period 1948-67, when the eastern half of the city, with its religious shrines, was under Jordanian control, no Arab ruler other than Jordanian King Hussein visited it. Also, under Jordanian rule, thousands of Jewish gravestones were desecrated and used to make Jordanian army latrines while all the synagogues in the city were deliberately destroyed. Jerusalem became a backwater under Jordanian rule, which maintained its capital in Amman. 70% of Jerusalem's current population is Jewish and the Knesset and all government ministries other than Defense are located in the city, as are the country's Supreme Court, its oldest and largest university, the Hebrew University, and its largest hospital, the Hadassah Medical Center.

ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said, "We are deeply perplexed and troubled by Ms. Nuland's repeated refusal to clarify a simple fact - that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. We say this, fully aware of the fact that the eastern portion of Jerusalem has been an item in negotiations conducted between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) - never the western portion. However, this does not in any way alter the fact that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and that U.S law, overwhelmingly passed by Congress, explicitly specifies and recognizes this fact. The question therefore arises: why is the State Department refusing to acknowledge these facts and speak in accordance with U.S. law?

"Jerusalem has been Israel's capital since 1949. The fact that matters pertaining to eastern Jerusalem have been negotiating items between Israel and the PA in no way alters or derogates from this fact.

"Ms. Nuland's refusal to acknowledge Jerusalem as Israel's capital flies in the face of history, logic and U.S law. We call upon the State Department to cease these evasions and to confirm unequivocally the fact that Jerusalem is Israel's capital."

Remembering The Book That Exposed Overcriminalization

The month of April marks the two-year anniversary of the release of One Nation Under Arrest, the ground-breaking book that fired a warning shot and alerted average Americans about the growing problem of overcriminalization. The book highlighted some of the worst horror stories of criminal law gone wrong.

Overcriminalization and Health Insurance

There has been no escaping the recent headlines about health insurance and the individual mandate. But in 2009, Heritage scholars reviewed the potential penalties that were first proposed in health insurance legislation and analyzed how they might expand overcriminalization.

ABOUT OVERCRIMINALIZATION

The Heritage Foundation and a coalition of public interest legal groups are committed to reversing the troubling trend of overcriminalization, which is defined by three attributes:

1. Federalizing crime that properly belongs under state and local jurisdiction;

2. Imposing criminal penalties upon persons who acted without criminal intent (mens rea);

3. Applying criminal sanctions to conduct that historically has not been considered wrongful.

This Legislative Update includes bills our researchers have identified that add or expand federal criminal offenses or penalties, but it generally does NOT include bills involving drugs, firearms, or crimes of violence.

America's evolutionists: Hitler's inspiration?

Creation Ministries International | by Jonathan Sarfati

While the horrors of Germany's Nazi past are well known, it is a well-kept secret that similar programs were also prevalent in some Allied countries. The award-winning investigative journalist Edwin Black has documented America's huge selective breeding and forced sterilization program in his book War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America's Campaign to Create a Master Race.1

Eugenics is the attempt to breed a better human race by applying evolutionary principles. Its founder was Darwin's cousin Francis Galton (1822-1911). These ideas were picked up in the USA by Charles Davenport (1866-1944), who founded the Eugenics Record Office in 1910, headed by his right-hand man, Harry Laughlin (1880-1943).

War Against The Weak

Eventually, eugenics would gain the support of such notables as President Woodrow Wilson, the Rockefeller Foundation, Margaret Sanger (founder of the abortionist organization Planned Parenthood) and influential Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. It was bankrolled by some of the richest people in America, including the Carnegie Institution, Rockefeller Foundation and the Harriman railroad fortune. The major textbook, Hunter's Civic Biology, blatantly taught white racial supremacy and eugenics. This was the one that the ACLU (the misnamed American Civil Liberties Union), in the infamous Scopes Trial of 1925, defended the 'right' to teach!

The shocking results of the eugenics program included laws against so-called mixed-race marriages in 27 states, human breeding programs, forced sterilization of over 60,000 US citizens and even euthanasia. Eugenics was even allowed by the Supreme Court, which had once declared slaves to be non-persons and now denies humanity to unborn babies.

Why the President Should Speak Out Against Religious Persecution

By
Raymond Ibrahim

On January 24, during his State of the Union Address, the president of the United States has a chance to expose the plight of religious minorities living in Muslim majority nations. Doing so would not merely shed light on one of the most ignored humanitarian crises of the 21st century; it would help alleviate it.

Why should the president speak up on the oppression of religious minorities? For starters, because it is the right thing to do, and reflects American values and principles.

He should speak up because religious cleansing is currently underway in nations like Nigeria, where Boko Haram-"Western Education is Forbidden"-and other Islamic groups have declared jihad on the Christian minorities of the north, killing and displacing thousands, burning and bombing hundreds of churches, most notoriously this last Christmas, where over forty people were killed while celebrating Christmas mass. Since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, about half of Iraq's one million Christians have been forced by targeted violence to flee their homeland.

He should speak up because churches are constantly being attacked, burned, or forced into closure, not just in Nigeria and Iraq, but in Afghanistan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia (click on country-links for the most recent examples). In Egypt alone, after several churches were burned, thousands of Christian Copts gathered to demonstrate-only to be slaughtered by the military, including by being run-over by armored vehicles.

He should speak up because Muslim converts to Christianity are regularly ostracized, beaten, killed, or imprisoned-recent examples coming from Algeria, Eritrea, Kashmir, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, and even Western nations. Iran's Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, whose plight actually made it to the mainstream media, is but one of many people imprisoned and tortured for simply following their conscience and converting to Christianity. Uganda offers a typical example: there, a Muslim father locked up his 14-year-old daughter for several months without food or water, simply because she embraced Christianity. She weighed 44 pounds when rescued.

He should speak up because Christian girls are being abducted, raped, and forced to convert to Islam-recent examples coming from Egypt, India, Pakistan, and Sudan. In Pakistan alone, "a 12 year-old Christian [was] gang raped for eight months, forcibly converted and then 'married' to her Muslim attacker." Now that she has escaped, instead of seeing justice done, "the Christian family is in hiding from the rapists and the police." Earlier in Pakistan, a 2-year-old Christian girl was savagely raped and damaged for life because her father refused to convert to Islam.

The U.S. president should speak up because such persecution is not merely performed at the hands of "outraged Muslim mobs," but is institutionalized in many Muslim governments, including those deemed "U.S. friends and allies"-such as Afghanistan, where the last church was recently razed; Egypt, where Islamists, supported by the U.S., openly speak of returning Copts into second-class dhimmi status; and Saudi Arabia, where churches are not permitted, and Bibles and crucifixes are confiscated and destroyed.

He should speak up because there is a pattern, one that is becoming increasingly harder to ignore-one that demonstrates great continuity over the centuries. Past and present, from Morocco in the west, to Pakistan in the east-in countries that do not share race, ethnicity, or language, only a culture permeated with the spirit of Islamic supremacism-non-Muslims suffer.

He should speak out because calling out bullies and cutting out their financial aid is the most effective way to curb their bullying, even as giving in to bullies-or worse, pretending they are not bullies and forcing others to go along-is a sure way to guarantee they continue bullying their minorities.

Perhaps most importantly, the president of the United States should speak out because we live in a day and age where the reality of religious persecution under Islam is so well documented-unlike in the days of former U.S. presidents who may be excused-that to continue ignoring it is tantamount to abetting it. Just as history has recorded the great sufferings of non-Muslims under Islam, so too will it record the complacency or complicity of those who are in a great position to end the persecution, but refuse to do so.

Christian Blood on Obama's Hands

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2012/04/christian-blood-on-obamas-hands.html

On Christmas Day of last year, Muslim terrorists set off bombs in churches across Nigeria. It was one of the worst attacks by Boko Haram which is determined to continue its reign of terror until the country is ruled by Muslim law. Christian pastors have been beheaded by Boko Haram and a spokesman for the group has openly stated that their interim goal is "to eradicate Christians from certain parts of the country."

The Boko Haram death toll has surpassed a thousand in only a few years. It has killed 250 people this year alone. It draws inspiration from the Taliban, has links to Al-Qaeda and has carried out numerous sophisticated attacks, including multiple car bombings.

That leaves one question. Why hasn't Boko Haram been designated a terrorist organization? it has killed more people than some of the organizations on the list and it is dedicated to ethnic cleansing, something that we decided was unacceptable when it came to Muslims. Shouldn't it then be equally unacceptable when it is being done by Muslims to Christians?

Apparently not. Johnnie Carson, Obama's Chicago born man in Africa, and the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs at subcommittee hearings chaired by Senator Coons, dismissed the idea of designating Boko Haram a terrorist organization and claimed falsely, that despite Boko Haram's repeated statements about its goals and its very name, that this conflict was not driven by religion, but by social inequities.

Questions about Boko Haram's terrorism against Christians were rerouted into what Carson described as a "comprehensive" approach to the problem, sidelining security assistance in favor of providing social aid to the Muslim north and urging the Nigerian government to stop aggressively fighting terrorism.

Boko Haram had been inspired by the Taliban and American diplomats are forcefully pushing the Nigerian government into adopting the same disastrous failed "Hearts and Minds" policies of Afghanistan. Instead of combating Boko Haram, we will be increasing funding to the Muslim north and even opening a consulate there. And of course urging Nigeria to appoint more Muslims to high ranking positions.

While the subcommittee on Homeland Security has urged that Boko Haram be designated a terrorist group, diplomats in the State Department are doing everything possible to sabotage the effort. The lies are coming fast and thick. In the New York Times, Jean Herskovitz wrote an op-ed insisting that there was no Boko Haram, suggesting instead that random criminal gangs were really responsible for the mass murder of Christians.

Herskovitz used the exact same line put out by appeasers in the early days of the War on Terror when they claimed that there was no actual Al-Qaeda. Since then that spin has been used for countless Muslim terrorist groups, who cannot be fought because they don't truly exist. Carson echoed her in his testimony, insisting that Boko Haram was vague, loosely defined and not at all monolithic.

According to Herskovitz, the genocidal Boko Haram terrorist group was actually a "peaceful" group which only turned to violence in response to government oppression, and urged us not to act in a way that "would make us appear biased toward a Christian president" or the Nigerian Muslims would turn on us too.

As a government employee, Johnnie Carson was somewhat more discreet, but took the same position that the real fault lies with the Christian South and the Nigerian government for keeping Muslims oppressed and in poverty, and that the only solution is to pour money, jobs and power into the north. The unstated endgame of this is to create a stalemate that will force the Nigerian political system to make further concessions to Islam and the Sharia law that Boko Haram is fighting for.

The appeasers make no mention of Boko Haram's mass murder of Christians or its fundamental intolerance. All they offer is the drumbeat of statistics on poverty in the Muslim north, completely ignoring the fact that the north is undeveloped because the Muslim leaders who resist vaccines and education for their followers want it that way.

This isn't just about a Muslim terrorist group trying to impose Sharia on 82 million Christians, a system that would reduce them to permanent inferiority. Boko Haram's increasingly sophisticated attacks aren't the work of a local group with no outside support. They bear the stamps of training by practiced terrorists as part of a concerted effort to take over Nigeria.

As the country with the tenth highest petroleum reserves in the world and the second highest in Africa-- it's no secret why our oil producing allies in the Gulf, who fund half the terrorism in the world, would want to seize Nigeria and bring it under the banner of Islam. Taking Nigeria wouldn't just add to their total wealth, it would put a bigger collar around our necks as Nigerian oil accounts for about ten percent of our oil imports. If the Saudis can corral Libya and Nigeria, then Muslim countries will account for nearly 40 percent of our oil imports.

But between these cold hard statistics is a human reality. Boko Haram continues the genocidal Islamic march across the world. Its goal is the same as the Third Reich, to seize power through terror, subjugate entire nations, enslave or exterminate minorities and rob them of their resources. And once again American diplomats are aiding and abetting the carnage.

The Christians of Africa are to Islam what the Jews of Europe were to the Nazis. And Johnnie Carson and his ilk are eager to play Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy whose Nazi sympathies overshadowed his duty to his country and his conscience. Their goal is to bring down the Goodluck administration or tie its hands enough so that it is forced to make compromises with the terrorists.

The Nigerian government thinks that there is a lobby at work aiding Boko Haram. What it does not understand is that it is only half-right. There is indeed a lobby, more than one, beginning with the Saudi lobby. But most of the appeasers do not need to be paid to do their work. Washington D.C. is full of grand buildings, but there is a rot deep in the heart of all that marble and stone. The edifices stand, but the soul is tainted.

It is that tainted soul which closes its eyes to the atrocities of Boko Haram and protects it from being designated a terrorist group. It is that rot which closes its conscience to the bodies of dead Christians, to those murdered at hands of Islamic genocidal terrorists, and instead mouths more platitudes about transparency and a comprehensive social services approach that will help tip Nigeria into the Islamic camp.

Every act of Islamic terror from Boko Haram is another stain of Christian blood on Obama's hands and the hands of his minions like Johnnie Carson. During the Holocaust, it was the diplomats who did their best to prevent the rescue of the Jews. Today the ghosts of Breckinridge Long and Joe Kennedy still walk the halls of the Harry S. Truman Building where the cover-ups continue and meaningless reassurances are doled out.

What Boko Haram intends for Nigeria is nothing short of genocide. The "cleansing" of Nigeria's Christian population until it is as "pure" as the land of Boko Haram's backers in Saudi Arabia. The lives of millions of Christians in Africa are on the line. Boko Haram has killed thousands of people and it will kill millions if the State Department gets its way and muscles the Goodluck government into an appeasement posture.

The question is how many more have to die. How much Christian blood has to be spilled until the right thing is done? Boko Haram has killed more people in one year than the Ulster Defence Force, which sits on the State Department terrorist list, has killed in decades of activity. Many of the groups on the list have no connection to the United States and no intention of ever attacking the United States. That hasn't stopped the State Department from designating them as terrorist groups. And Boko Haram, which has Al-Qaeda links, has an open and shut case for being on that list.

There is no rational reason why Boko Haram should not be on that list. Being on that list will not force us to take any action in Nigeria, just as we aren't bombing Ireland just because some Irish organizations are on that list. What it will do is make it more difficult for terrorist charities to operate in the United States. It will also make it more difficult for diplomats to pressure Nigeria into making concessions to Boko Haram and make it easier to share intelligence and provide other forms of support to the Nigerian government in its war on Islamic terror.

In her Op-Ed, Herskovitz insisted that "Boko Haram is not the problem". It is up to us to make it the problem, to prevent the Carsons and Herskovitzes from pushing the mass murder of Christians under the rug as if it were no more than a minor inconvenience in their dreams of Muslim power-sharing arrangements.

The shadows are falling over Africa. Cote D'ivorie has been lost to a Western backed Muslim coup. Kenya has been forced into making concessions to Sharia law. But Nigeria is the big prize, its oil and its sizable population makes it the grand prize in the battle for Africa. And if it is won, it will be over the dead bodies of millions of Christians.

Among all the other issues that occupy our time and attention, we must not forget Boko Haram, we must not forget the murdered Christians of Africa or the murdered Jews of Tolouse or the murdered Hindus of Karachi. Not only because that would be wrong, but because we are next. These are not isolated atrocities; they are drops in a tidal wave of death that is sweeping toward us. If we do not stand up for them, who will be left to stand up for us?

"Killing Bin Laden is the end of the War on Terror"
