Obama's secret talks with Iran exposed: Back door channel working to stop Israeli attack.      President Obama has been engaged in secret back channel talks with Iran in which he informed Tehran's leaders he is completely opposed to any Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, according to informed Middle Eastern officials.

The officials told KleinOnline the behind-the-scenes talks aim to secure a guarantee from Iran the country will not retaliate against the U.S. in the event of any Israeli military strike, the officials said.

Was Obama an Indonesian citizen? Evidence raises concerns over presidential qualification.      Evidence continues to mount that President Obama was adopted by his Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, raising concerns over his presidential eligibility.

Obama's American mother, Ann Dunham, separated from her first husband, Barack Obama Sr., in 1963 when the president was 2 years old. Dunham and Obama Sr. are reported to have later divorced.

In Hawaii, Dunham married Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian, in 1965 and moved to Indonesia in October 1967.

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

 

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

 

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

 

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

 

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

 

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

 

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

 

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

 

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

 

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.


 

Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader.   Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.  

 

What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.

 

The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.

 

There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.

 

But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.

Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!

In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed," argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.


After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

Hello all,

 

Yesterday Monday April 2, HB1776 and SB1400 was introduced in PA legislature. This legislation would replace property tax funding of public education with a broad based consumption funding source.  More importantly, it gradually moves to a per/student state funding mechanism rather than the current disproportionate allocation.  This would facilitate a voucher system with funding following the student.  If our country is not to go down the path of the failed welfare and dependency state, parents who understand the Truth of our existence, should have an option to send their children to education based in Christian beliefs as an alternative to the current sole option anti-Christian secular public education.

This bill will not decrease the amount of funding for public education but rather puts it on a more sustainable and equitable basis.

 

More importantly, it gives relief to property owners, particularly retirees on fixed incomes that have had ever increasing hardship to pay ever increasing taxes on a home they thought they owned by a lifetime's work. It will further avert the tragedy of them losing or having to leave their homes, as has occurred to too many already, because they can no longer afford the property tax on their home.

They will only pass this good legislation if they hear from enough hard working tax payers like you.

1. Maybe Paul Ryan Should Have Called It a Trojan Condom Budget

Barack Obama spoke to the American press yesterday to demagogue Republicans, Paul Ryan's budget, cite Ronald Reagan as proof that raising taxes is okay, and damn with faint praise American exceptionalism.

The President called Paul Ryan's budget a "trojan horse." Given the President's predilection for forcing all Americans, through regulatory fiat, to adhere to his view of contraception, I suspect that had Paul Ryan preemptively called his budget a 'trojan condom," the President of the United States would be campaigning trying to make us all adhere to it.

One thing that really stuck out at me in his speech yesterday was his statement that his very life and career were made possible because of American exceptionalism. He's right. It's also what makes his public policy choices so maddening.

 

 

2. Does Obama Know How the Supreme Court Voted?

The storm that erupted yesterday when Barack Obama woke up and discovered the Supreme Court of the United States was not only not elected but it could overturn "duly passed" laws, even those passed in the dead of the night by the barest of purchased majorities, has been more than adequately covered on these pages and others by actual lawyers and those who think they are.

I'm pretty sure Obama knows what Marbury v. Madison is, even though yesterday he gave a darned good impression of being a total goober in regards to our Constitution. The simplest explanation is that he knows how the vote went on Friday and is working to change that vote, failing that he is setting the predicate for running against the Supreme Court in November.

 

3. Sherrod Brown Compares GOP Governors to Hitler, Stalin

Last year while governors across the Midwest worked to reform broken public union laws, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) slandered them in a speech that could have easily been written by one of the millionaire "leaders" at SEIU, NEA, or AFSCME.

During one of his stemwinders about the wondrous things unions do, Sherrod dropped a reductio ad Hitlerum on Governor Kasich (OH), Governor Walker (WI), and Governor Christie (NJ).

 

4. Earmarxists Make Best Case Against Earmarks

The Republican-controlled House is currently operating under a moratorium on earmarking. But if several GOP earmarxists have their say, this will change in the near future.

Throughout the past decade, most of the arguments against earmarks have been focused on wasteful spending, corruption, cronyism, and self-ingratiating monuments. Robert Byrd's monuments and the Bridge to Nowhere became symbols for such bad behavior. To that end, even some conservative advocates of earmarks have lodged a counterargument. They contend that earmarks are only "pocket change," and that by declining to earmark specific funding bills, we are ceding more power to the Obama administration. In order to preclude any extravagant earmarks and cronyism, they are proposing reforms and limitations to the process that will supposedly put an end to things like the Bridge to Nowhere.

In September 2004, shortly before the November presidential elections pitting George W. Bush against John Kerry, CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Dan Rather presented a falsified document to the public that purported to show that Bush had gone AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. As it turned out, the papers were forgeries. Rather retired under heavy pressure.

 

This month, NBC News broadcast a heavily edited tape of George Zimmerman's 911 call in the Trayvon Martin case. The tape itself was fully available. And NBC News, as we've reported, cut the relevant portion of the tape deliberately in order to make Zimmerman look like a racist. Here's the transcript of the original recording:

 

ZIMMERMAN: This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about.

 

DISPATCHER: OK, and this guy - is he black, white or Hispanic?

 

ZIMMERMAN: He looks black.

Here's the transcript of the edited recording:

 

ZIMMERMAN: This guy looks like he's up to no good ... he looks black.

 

The point is obvious. The unedited version shows Zimmerman offering the race of the suspect only when prompted, and doing so hesitantly. The edited version shows Zimmerman eagerly linking somebody being "up to no good" and somebody being "black." The edited tape was broadcast on "Today" on March 27. NBC's Ron Allen was the reporter on the scene - and, not coincidentally, he remained the reporter for NBC Nightly News as well. Matt Lauer was part of the report. So was Rachel Maddow. The entire staff was associated with this doctored recording.


So the question becomes: whose head should roll?

The answer is obvious: Brian Williams.

The Man Who Knew Too Little  

President Obama's stunning ignorance of constitutional law.

We were half-joking yesterday when we asked if Barack Obama slept through his Harvard Law class on Marbury v. Madison, the 1803 case in which the U.S. Supreme Court first asserted its power to strike down unconstitutional laws. It turns out it's no joke: The president is stunningly ignorant about constitutional law. 

 

At an appearance this afternoon, a reporter asked Obama a question following up on yesterday's comments: "Mr. President, you said yesterday that it would be 'unprecedented' for a Supreme Court to overturn laws passed by an elected Congress. But that is exactly what the court's done during its entire existence. If the court were to overturn the individual mandate, what would you do, or propose to do, for the 30 million people who wouldn't have health care after that ruling?" 

 

Obama's answer to the question was that he expects to win in court, and "as a consequence, we're not spending a whole bunch of time planning for contingencies." He went on to talk at some length about the "human element"--that is, people who would supposedly suffer in the absence of ObamaCare. Message: Obama cares, though not enough to spend "a whole bunch of time planning for contingencies."  

 

But the most interesting part of his answer was the beginning, in which he tried to walk back, or at least clarify, his statement from yesterday. He spoke slowly, with long pauses, giving the sense that he was speaking with great thought and precision: "Well, first of all, let me be very specific. Um [pause], we have not seen a court overturn [pause] a [pause] law that was passed [pause] by Congress on [pause] a [pause] economic issue, like health care, that I think most people would clearly consider commerce. A law like that has not been overturned [pause] at least since Lochner, right? So we're going back to the '30s, pre-New Deal."

Obama Slams Supreme Court over Obamacare 

The highest elected official in the United States dished out an extra helping of irony yesterday when, in speaking at a joint news conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, President Barack Obama slammed the Supreme Court as an "unelected group of people" who will have turned to "judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint" if they strike down Obamacare.

The President's remarks imply that the Court, were it to rule the individual mandate unconstitutional, would be acting recklessly in undertaking judicial review of Congress' unprecedented use of the Commerce Clause to force Americans to buy health care or pay a penalty. The irony in all this is that this President has presided over an Administration that is the epitome of recklessly abusing power, at times in flagrant violation of the Constitution, and has empowered unelected bureaucrats to write scads of new regulations impacting nearly every corner of American life.

The Happiness Mandate  

If the Supreme Court oral arguments on Obamacare revived your fear of "death panels," then you might be relieved to know about a "happiness panel." According to the Washington Post, President Obama welcomed the creation of a panel of economists, psychologists, and bureaucrats that will assess our happiness as individuals and as a nation.

No longer will we need to risk pursuing happiness on our own. Right now America ranks #17, behind Brazil and Panama but ahead of Austria, according to the Gallup Poll data the panel uses. Scandinavians apparently are the happiest.


Now, we will have the help of serious scholars, including Daniel Kahneman, a psychologist who won the Nobel Prize in economics; Alan Krueger, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and one of the leading researchers in this new branch of economics that studies well-being; and Cass Sunstein, a law professor and Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

To assess happiness, defined as one's emotional well being, these distinguished experts look for quantifiable measurements. And, what could be more easily measured than education or money?

If we look at whether income and education are emotionally fulfilling, though, we are doomed to disappointment. "Education contributes nothing to affective [emotional] well-being in the United States," concludes the report. Money is a trickier story. While wealthier people feel happier, it turns out that when income surpasses $75,000 one's "experiential happiness" undergoes diminishing returns. Meaning, after earning $75,000, making more money does not bring the same level of happiness that it would before making $75,000.

How might a policymaker use such "scientific" evidence? Might it be that, according to this logic, taxing a millionaire is not injuring him the same way as taxing a person making $50,000 a year. Will $75,000, then, become the new definition of someone who feels less pain at being taxed?

And what about the discomforts in life that cause unhappiness? According the experts, "being lonely, having a headache, being a caregiver, having a health condition, or having children at home" commonly lead to worry and depression. Would the advisory board's proposed government formula for feeling happy be: attend parties, take two aspirin, eat healthy, and abandon your family?

The advisory panel did not include philosophers, political theorists, or theologians. As such, the social scientists' discussion focused on self-reported feelings, incentives, and measurements. There was no mention of goals, guilt, or God. With their current focus, it's unlikely that the panel would be able to explain the happiness of athletes who live unpleasant lives (enduring long work outs, strict diets, bodily pain, and even defeat) in the quest for an Olympic gold medal.

These bean counters could have benefited from a serious look at our founding document. The Declaration of Independence made the "pursuit of happiness" the culmination of the rights that document protected. For Thomas Jefferson and the Continental Congress, happiness meant those virtues or excellences of the human soul that lifted human beings to the peak activities of life, including philosophizing, undertaking acts of justice and generosity, and being courageous in the face of danger. This definition of happiness does not exclude pleasure or money, or all the other qualities that people mistake for the totality of happiness. But it establishes the priorities Western Civilization has held for millennia.

Though social scientists don't really know much about happiness, they do know about how to get money to talk about happiness. Bankrolling the happiness bureaucrats is none other than Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Down in the dumps? Cheer up, and expect your happiness mandate any day now.

Obama: I sure hope the Supreme Court doesn't do something unprecedented by striking down ObamaCare

Via the Examiner. In what way would it be an "unprecedented, extraordinary step," as he claims here? They've struck down laws before for violating the Commerce Clause - not often, admittedly, but it's happened in not one but two landmark cases over the last 20 years. If there's anything novel about the ObamaCare case, it's the idea of federal power to compel purchases, not the Court's reaction to it. And what on earth does this mean?

"Ultimately I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," Obama told reporters today while speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

Obama reminded reporters that conservative commentators, have complained about "judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint," that "an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law."

The "strong majority" in Congress went 219-212 in the House, with 34 Democrats defecting. Not a single Republican in either chamber voted for it, and as Ace notes, the public itself has been steadfastly opposed to the law since day one. Against that backdrop, it's an amazing show of balls by The One to dress this up as the Court somehow thwarting the people's will. But even if O-Care really did have a "strong majority," so what? The whole point of judicial review is to make sure that congressional majorities, strong or not, remain bound by their enumerated powers and the Bill of Rights. You know what law really did have a "strong majority" in both chambers? DOMA. Think there'll be any tears shed on the left for majoritarianism if Anthony Kennedy cashiers that one on a 5-4 vote?

New Poll Confirms Obama's Jewish Support is Slipping Away

Support in Latest Poll Drops 16 Points  

 

 

Washington, D.C. (April 3, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition released a statement today in response to a new poll by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI).

According to the PRRI poll, 62% of American Jewish want to see President Obama reelected. This is a 16-point drop from the 78% of the Jewish vote he won in November 2008. 


RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said, "This poll is another in a series of data points that show that President Obama has lost support among Jewish voters.

"Most recently, we've seen the Pew poll of February 2012 and the American Jewish Committee survey of September 2011 which both show a significant erosion in Jewish support for President Obama since his election in 2008. Make no mistake; this President has a Jewish problem. There is no silver lining in this poll for Democrats. These data points all show that Republicans are poised to continue to make inroads in the Jewish community in the 2012 election."

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 217 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS


Obama's Contempt For The Court

President Obama's contempt for those who dare to question his legacy was on display yesterday. At a Rose Garden press conference, with the leaders of Mexico and Canada flanking him, Obama said this when asked about the court's hearing on ObamaCare:

"Ultimately, I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.  And I'd just remind conservative commentators that for years what we've heard is, the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint -- that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law.  ...And I'm pretty confident that this Court will recognize that and not take that step."


It is now undeniable that the entire left-wing establishment is engaged in a very public assault against the United States Supreme Court. There is one purpose in this attack: To intimidate the conservative justices on the court so they won't dare to take on the Obama/Reid/Pelosi unconstitutional takeover of health care.

Every GOP candidate should be aggressively responding to Obama's attack on the court's conservatives. In that one statement, Barack Obama has provided several examples of why a second term would be so dangerous.

  • Obama is a bully. He has bullied Wall Street and our most productive industries since he took office. He bullied Rep. Paul Ryan, inviting him to a speech on the budget, only to use him as a prop to attack Ryan's proposals. And Obama even bullied the justices of the Supreme Court during a State of the Union Address with several of them sitting in the audience as congressional liberals applauded his attack.
  • Obama is a hypocrite. He said it would be "unprecedented and extraordinary" for the court to overturn his signature accomplishment. What is "unprecedented and extraordinary" is this direct attack on another branch of government! Obama continued that attack today in remarks to reporters.

    That "strong majority" in Congress was just barely a majority. ObamaCare passed the House by a vote of 219-212, with 34 Democrats voting against it. And it was rejected by the American people in the 2010 elections, which cost Democrats control of the House.

    Moreover, the Obama Administration is in court right now trying to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act. DOMA passed the House 342-to-67 and passed the Senate 85-to-14. Obama says it would be "unprecedented and extraordinary" to overturn his law, which has been on the books for only two years and is not yet fully in force. But he has the audacity to lecture the court about judicial restraint as he is attempting to overturn thousands of years of history and a core value of Judeo-Christian civilization!
  • Obama is ignorant. For a man who claims to be a constitutional law professor, Obama is breathtakingly ignorant of the law. (No wonder he doesn't want us to see his college transcripts!) The power of judicial review -- the Supreme Court's authority to judge the constitutionality of laws -- was established in the landmark case Marbury v. Madison in 1803! That "unprecedented" authority has been used more than 150 times as a central part of our system of checks and balances.

    Striking down bad laws is not judicial activism. What conservatives object to are liberal judges inventing new rights -- such as the right to end the life of an unborn baby or the right of men to marry other men -- out of thin air. In such cases, liberal judges are making law, legislating their morality on the rest of society. That is judicial activism.


Obama's obvious disdain for the separation of powers is evidence that this election is about so much more than the economy. It is about preserving freedom in America.

The left is incredibly intolerant. The militant homosexual rights movement, Big Labor, the pro-abortion lobby, Occupy Wall Street -- they all want to bully Americans into accepting their radical agenda.

This November, it is time to stop the left's bullying of America. And we start by sending Barack Obama back to Chicago!


Questioning The Court's "Credibility"

Last week, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) attended a hastily arranged press conference with other Democrat senators to soothe liberal fears that the Supreme Court might strike down ObamaCare. But far from calming fears, Blumenthal offered these incendiary remarks:

"The court commands no armies, it has no money; it depends for its power on its credibility. The only reason people obey it is because it has that credibility. And the court risks grave damage if it strikes down a statute of this magnitude and importance, and stretches so dramatically and drastically to do it."


Blumenthal's comments are stunning for a former state attorney general. He seems to be suggesting that any decision contrary to the left's desired outcome is illegitimate and could be, and perhaps should be, ignored.

Sorry, senator, but it's your credibility and Obama's credibility that is at stake.

ObamaCare and its mandates are deeply unpopular and Democrats paid dearly for it at the ballot box in 2010. Democrats fear another rejection by the nation's highest court could galvanize the American people against their radicalism and end Obama's presidency.

So they are launching this preemptive strike against another branch of government, attacking the separation of powers and further stoking division in America, hoping to rally the left-wing base to Obama's defense -- no matter the damage to the fabric of our society. That is why the left's attacks on the court have been so vehement -- because their power is at risk.

I pray this strategy backfires. Hubris got the better of Franklin Roosevelt when he tried to pack the court. The American people rebelled and Roosevelt was forced to back down. Obama is likely exceeding the limits of his popularity when he so brazenly attacks one of America's most trusted institutions.


Bad Spinach vs. Black Lives

There are probably not three things Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and I agree on. But I commend him for doing what Barack Obama will not -- condemning black-on-black violence in America's cities.

Nutter made headlines last year for his stern comments and actions against flash mobs, telling black youths, "You've damaged your own race." He also told them to take their hoodies off, "especially in the summer."

At a youth violence prevention forum in Washington yesterday, Nutter said that black-on-black violence was a disease. He also compared it to bad spinach:

"If there were five bad bags of spinach on the shelf somewhere, someone would put out a national alert. Every bag would be snatched off the shelves until someone figured out where they came from, what was going on, and there would be a national investigation. There is no national investigation about this issue -- that black people are killing black people all across the United States of America."


Of the Trayvon Martin case, Nutter said, "But the fact of the matter is, unfortunately, many African American boys are killed in America each and every day, most of which are never going to be on CNN, MSNBC -- mostly not even on the local news in those particular jurisdictions."

Nutter is right -- there is an epidemic of black-on-black crime in America. Much of it is caused by the breakdown of the black family. And Obama's class warfare certainly isn't the answer because no big government program can make up for the breakdown of the family.

Unfortunately, the mayor of Philadelphia has demonstrated more courage on this issue than has the president of the United States. As I wrote in an op-ed for today's Washington Times, Obama's remarks about the Trayvon Martin case were just more rhetoric designed to distract us from his failed record.

Dubious Donations Illustrated (Illegal Contributor Edition)

The Obama re-election campaign fundraising scandal deserves to be, and I think inevitably will be, a major news story. Earlier this morning I decided to find out how far an illegal donor could push the envelope and still have his contribution welcomed by the Obama campaign. So, like a number of our readers, I went to the Donate to Obama page and identified myself as Illegal Contributor. I entered my address as Cell Block 13, State Penitentiary, Stillwater MN. I identified my employer as Minnesota Penal System and my occupation as Inmate. Here is a screen shot showing the donation from Illegal Contributor:

I put a $3 contribution on one of my credit cards, and the Obama campaign accepted it. The campaign site automatically prompted me to set up a "Grassroots Fundraising" site, so I did. I identified myself as "Illegal Contributor" and added a graphic of an inmate behind bars. I included the legend "Illegal contributions wanted!" and this fundraising blurb:

Barack Obama is a money machine, but let's not take any chances! Come to this page to make your illegal contributions. It's easy, because the Obama campaign facilitates fraud!

It is inconceivable that the Obama campaign disables all credit card security measures (unlike every other presidential campaign) for any reason other than to facilitate violations of the campaign finance laws. The Obama campaign has deliberately set up its fundraising system so that legal contribution limits can easily be circumvented, and illegal contributions from foreign nationals can be accepted. It is ironic that Democrats fulminate about Citizens United and the need for disclosure of donors to non-campaign-related organizations, when the Obama re-election campaign is one gigantic fraud, structured to facilitate violation of federal campaign finance laws.

 

 

Could the Supreme Court Take a Mulligan?

Richard Epstein points to Justice Anthony Kennedy's killer question in the oral arguments over the Obamacare mandate last week: "Can you create commerce in order to regulate it?"  Where have we heard something like that before?  That's right-in Citizens United.

Prior to the prospect raised last week of the Supreme Court striking down Obamacare, Citizens United is the modern case that gets the most ire from the Left.  "This is the worst Supreme Court decision since the Dred Scott case," said the egregious Congressman Alan Grayson in a typically well-reasoned response from the Left.  One wonders what hyperbole will be left if Obamacare is struck down.

What people forget is that Citizens United was reargued, because the Justice Department also could not give a coherent answer to a killer question, this time from Justice Alito, as to whether the campaign finance laws that prohibited the distribution of Hillary, the Movie wouldn't also allow the Federal Election Commission to regulate the distribution of books near election day.  Then-solicitor general Donald Stewart answered Yes, notwithstanding that pesky little First Amendment thingie.

Alarmed, the Court ordered the case reargued, specifically expanding its scope to ask whether certain previous cases that provided the basis for Stewart's answer had been erroneously decided and should be overruled.  During the second oral argument, a new solicitor general-Elena Kagan-was asked the same killer question, and answered: "No [we can't regulate books]; the government's position has changed."

Stop and dwell on that one phrase for a moment: "The government's position has changed."  That says about all you need to know about the rule of law in the liberal wonderland of today's administrative state.

This phrase probably mattered more to the outcome that Kagan's convoluted and unpersuasive argument that followed that attempted a fine distinction between films like Hillary, the Movie and books.  The Court was unpersuaded, just as it appears to have been unpersuaded last week that the individual mandate could be squared with the Commerce Clause any better than FEC regulation of books and movies could be squared with the First Amendment.  And as noted here before, the Justice who wrote the ringing opinion in Citizens United was Kennedy.

I think the chances for re-arguing Obamacare in the same way are practically nil.  The experience of Citizens United is precisely why the Court decided to have the extraordinary three days of argument over the case-to make sure they covered everything thoroughly, and didn't end up in their conference to vote on the case with the feeling that some really big issues weren't covered in the briefs and oral argument.  But stranger things have happened.  It is generally forgotten today that Brown v. Board of Education was reargued too.

 

Dubious donations, cont'd

Among the many dubious donations Barack Obama received in 2008 were two from readers who contributed under the names "Joseph Stalin" (Address: "114 Gulag St, Stalingrad, LA") and "Imon Deathrow" (Address: "13 Alcatraz Island, Laststop, CA"). Reader Claudia Brown writes to discuss a third that she repeated last week:

So glad you are shining some light on this scheme. Like your various contributors, I too made a couple of bogus donations to the Obama campaign in 2008 and they went through with no problem. I am an American citizen but I live in Canada, and I used my Canadian credit card on the transaction, but the donor information I entered online was all fictitious, literally - all lifted from To Kill a Mockingbird, including a fake email using one of the book's racial epithets that you can't even print in public. I thought it might cause some bells to go off at the campaign headquarters, but that never happened.

I then signed on for Obama campaign communiques, and the organization has sent me HUNDREDS of emails in the past four years, most of them including a money request, and almost always setting out the suggested donations beginning with $5 or $10. During the past year they even scaled back to requests for less than 5 (toward, for example, the "lunch with Barack" raffle). Obviously the strategy was a winner - why give it up?

So to test out whether the campaign might be feeling any pressure to clean up its act as the next election approaches, in the past week I have made my little donation again, using the same card and the same phony donor info, and it was all accepted without hindrance. I then passed this information on to Pam Geller. I really think somebody should start collecting accounts of this caper for a dossier to be made public during the summer. I figure (and hope I'm right!) that if a large number of people do this, and keep their total donations at a very small figure (my personal total over four years is just $20), we can probably afford to confess our part in the scheme without having to worry (much) about being fined or carted off in the Black Mariah.

Let the dossier begin!

I wouldn't contribute to Barack Obama's campaign if you put a gun to my head, but someone who does this for a living really ought to do a serious story on it.

 

Postcard from the Island of Individual Mandates

Readers may be aware that Pope Benedict made a visit to Cuba last week. It was the first pontifical visit to that island nation since 1998, when John Paul II visited and prompted Fidel Castro to relax his government's imaginary grip on the faiths of its people. Since the Communist revolution in 1959, Cuba has been officially atheist. It's just one example, in a place full of them, of an individual mandate that is at odds with reality. Amazingly, when the government mandates atheism, it doesn't actually create atheists. It only scares believers. Like when the government mandates food. It doesn't actually create food, just hunger. Or buildings. When the government takes away property, nationalizes it, and tells your family to go and live over in that Spanish colonial masonry pile, you go and do it. But it isn't really a home.

A Narrow Escape For Taxpayers

The collapse of the "green" energy industry continued today, as Solar Trust of America LLC filed for bankruptcy. Solar Trust was, it claimed, carrying out the world's largest solar energy project in California. Two things make Solar Trust's bankruptcy especially newsworthy: first, Barack Obama's Department of Energy offered the company a $2.1 billion loan guarantee just last year. Fortunately, Solar Trust turned it down:

It would have been one of the largest stimulus-funded clean-tech­nol­ogy projects, and Solar Trust had been negotiating the deal for roughly a year. But [Solar Trust's CEO Uwe] Schmidt decided it was too risky. ...

The Obama administration's vaunted initiative to catalyze the U.S. clean-energy industry - under attack for betting half a billion dollars on the solar-panel manufacturer Solyndra, which closed last month - has become a case study of what can go wrong when a rigid government bureaucracy tries to play venture capitalist and jump-start a nascent, fast-changing market.

Schmidt concluded in early 2011 that the influx of inexpensive flat solar panels was undercutting his company's year-old proposal to use a field of parabolic mirrors that focus the sun's energy to heat liquid-containing tubes. Despite market changes, however, the terms of the federal loan guarantee wouldn't let Solar Trust switch in midstream to flat panels. So Solar Trust sought private financing.

So the Obama administration's proposed loan guarantee was so dumb that the prospective borrower decided not to take it! That tells you all you need to know about the Obama administration's ability-actually, the ability of any administration-to execute an industrial policy that doesn't fleece the taxpayers.

Of course, Mr. Schmidt remained high on "green" energy even though he decided not to take the taxpayers' money. He blogged about it at the Huffington Post, suggesting that voters shouldn't let Solyndra dampen their enthusiasm for government-funded energy boondoggles:

Without a clear government mandate and ongoing support for renewable energy, America will continue to be dependent on foreign energy sources, mostly from countries in a region beset with political volatility.

So what went wrong with our federal program to support renewables? Nothing, except one company's bankruptcy has cast doubt on the credibility of a government program that is otherwise being administered with incredible efficiency.

Except for the occasional offer to guarantee $2.1 billion in loans to a company that is about to go bankrupt.

Indeed, despite the posturing and finger pointing, the American solar energy industry is alive and well. I should know. My company, Solar Trust of America, is planning to build over 2,000 MW of new solar plants in the coming years. ...

By 2014, the United States will become the largest solar market in the world, with new solar plants being the largest source of new electric generating capacity in the US.

That obviously isn't going to happen.

What that adds up to is jobs. Good jobs.

News accounts indicate that as of its bankruptcy filing, Solar Trust employed nine people.

The second reason why the Solar Trust bankruptcy story is remarkable is that its own German parent companies declined to continue funding the company, even as Steven Chu's Department of Energy was willing to put American taxpayers on the hook to the tune of $2.1 billion:

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Delaware on Monday after majority owner Solar Millennium-now under the control of a German bankruptcy professional-stopped putting money into the company. ...

The company tried to sell itself last year to another German solar-power company, Solarhybrid. Solarhybrid executives blamed the deal's collapse on dwindling European subsidies for alternative energy.

Solar Millennium filed for Germany's equivalent of bankruptcy in December. Amid the economic crisis, European governments are slashing programs that once made it more affordable for residents and businesses to buy expensive solar systems.

The insolvency administrator put in charge of the company's bankruptcy case, Volker Boehm, has "ceased to provide any funding whatsoever" to the project, according to court papers.

Solar Trust was founded in 2005 by Solar Millennium and another German industrial heavyweight, Ferrostaal AG. Ferrostaal, which owns a 30% stake, stopped putting money toward Solar Trust two years ago, according to court papers.

What could better illustrate the rampant fraud or incompetence-take your pick-that besets the Obama administration? One of the owners of Solar Trust, a German "industrial heavyweight," refused to put any more money into that company two years ago, while the Obama administration was willing to pour $2.1 billion of American tax dollars down the rathole just last year. And even today, as the solar and wind industries collapse in a sea of unpaid bills, Barack Obama yaps on and on about how taxpayers should invest in "green energy." The man's economic ignorance is frankly staggering.

I-95 and I-75 will be jammed for the next month or so with druggies and deadbeats heading North out of Florida, because this is the first state in the union to require drug testing to receive welfare!

In signing the new law, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free".
Applicants must pay for the drug test, but are reimbursed if they test drug-free.
 
Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment.
 
Those who fail a second time will be banned from receiving funds for three years!
 
Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional. 

 

How is this unconstitutional? 

It's a legal requirement that every person applying for a JOB has to pass drug tests in order to get the JOB, why not those who receive welfare?

Take the Jewbags case of Danielle Gilbert, a staffer for Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz who had been appointed the DNC's Jewish outreach liaison. In a social media mishap, Gilbert posed along with her friends in a photo that she captioned "JEWBAGS" and that a friend of hers captioned as "Jew cash money team." This is the sort of incident that the hip crowd that thinks Heeb is a great name for a magazine and Jewcan Sam is hilarious will laugh off. But it's hardly the most offensive thing about Gilbert from a Jewish perspective. It's just a symptom of the problem.

Mohammed Merah killed Jews because he was unhappy and it was France that made him unhappy.
 

 
Murder across religious and ethnic boundaries in Europe is inevitably a crime against multiculturalism. If someone kills a Muslim, it's an assault on multiculturalism. If a Muslim kills someone, it's also an assault on multiculturalism. Whoever ends up in the morgue, the incident becomes a clarion call for recommitting ourselves to more multiculturalism.

Congress needs to get serious about cutting spending.While there are many bureaucratic government agencies that could be cut, the Department of Energy provides ample opportunities for savings.

TRADITIONAL VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

 

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Be responsible for yourself!

 

MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

 

CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on MSNBC with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green." Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

 

Democrat leaders, in every media outlet they can find, exclaim that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper and call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

 

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer! The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

 

Hillary Clinton gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Barack Obama appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case.

 

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.

 

The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

 

MORAL OF THE STORY:

MSNBC's coma inducing program 'Morning Joe' has a long history of mocking Glenn -- calling him crazy, a fear monger, etc etc. But last week they were singing a different tune when an 'expert' appeared on their program to inform them about good investments. At the top of the list: Gold. That led to the shocking admission that yep, Glenn Beck was right.

 

Is Obama a gambling addict??
With the Mega Millions jackpot reaching record levels ($640 million at last count) and the First Lady off to Vegas, suddenly the realization hit Glenn, Stu & Pat that the President may very well be a gambler. Obama scolded Big Oil and suggested we 'double down' (gambling lingo) on green energy. 

 

Atheists descend on DC for Reason Rally?
The Blaze faith editor Billy Hallowell mingled among the non-believers at the Reason Rally in Washington D.C. over the weekend. It's an interesting group of people who are out to strongly announce their belief in non-belief.

Jada and her mother didn't take the attack sitting down-they decided to continue to take on the system and fight for Jada's freedom of speech.
