IRS seeks 4,000 agents for Obamacare...
(Washington Examiner) - The Internal Revenue Service wants to add about 4,000 agents to hunt down tax cheats and still plans to spend $303 million building a system to oversee Obamacare even though its future looks bleak in the U.S. Supreme Court. A new Government Accountability Office review of the IRS 2012 tax return season and the taxman's fiscal 2013 budget request also found that the agency's customer service rating has slipped and 5.5 million returns were delayed a week because of a computer programming glitch.

Subject: "Global March on Jerusalem" Happening Tomorrow (Friday)
Action: Call and/or email local and national media outlets to demand they report on tomorrow's anti-Israel event accurately with full context and background information so that readers, listeners and viewers truly understand what is taking place and see that Israel and Jews are the aggrieved party and that tomorrow's event is another attempt to demonize Israel and provoke a confrontation. Try especially to speak with news editors (at newspapers) or news directors (at TV and radio stations). Be polite and pleasant, calm and helpful.
Below are contact information for local and national media, tips on interacting with the media and an example of a typically biased article already published concerning the "March on Jerusalem." There are also links to the March Web site and its North American component.
Background:
ZOA Members, Friends and Supporters of Israel: You can play an important role by holding the media accountable and letting media leaders know that you will be paying close attention to how they cover tomorrow's planned assault against Israel billed as the "March on Jerusalem."
According to Israel's Ynetnews. com:
"International supporters and hundreds of thousands of participants are expected to take part in the Global March on Jerusalem Friday, as Israel braces for potential attempts to breach the Jewish state's borders."
From Jonathan Schanzer writing in The Weekly Standard's Blog:
"The Global March to Jerusalem, slated for March 30 (Land Day for the Palestinians), is a coordinated attempt to breach Israel's borders from surrounding Arab states-Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. Participants are planning to arrive from around the globe -Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and even America. Their goal is to ensure that as many as one million people overwhelm Israeli border security and march to Jerusalem, where they will assert Muslim rights to the holy city.
But will this march result in bloodshed, like the first flotilla, or red tape, like the second?
Should the organizers have their way, this will be a messy affair. If Israel fires upon the marchers, it will be a public relations victory. The organizers already know this is likely. On May 15 and June 5 of last year, activists marched on Israel's borders. When Israeli officials could not contain them, both incidents turned violent, resulting in dozens of deaths and many more injured.
As the group's website claims, "We aim to make this march a turning point in the nature of the confrontation, with the occupation having to face millions of protesters and demonstrators demanding Freedom for Palestine and its capitol Jerusalem."
A brief survey of the sponsors should dispel any doubt surrounding the intentions of this movement. Participants and funding can be traced back to a pastiche of traditional anti-Israel groups like the International Solidarity Movement, but it is the other organizers that should be cause for concern.
UK-based Mohamed Sawalha is a former Hamas commander who played an integral role in the first flotilla. Ashraf Abu Zayed, who does public relations work for Hamas in Gaza, now sits on the GMJ central committee, as does Hamas parliamentarian Ahmad Abo Halabiya.
In December, Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh announced the march, calling for the establishment of "the 'Army of Jerusalem'... in order to take action to liberate Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa."
Hamas is coordinating its efforts with other regional terrorist groups. On March 14, a Hamas delegation headed by Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouk met with Hezbollah figurehead Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. According to Hezbollah media outlets, the GMJ was one of their agenda items.
Iran is a sponsor, too. The government-run FARS news agency reported in February that regime loyalist Hossein Shaikhol-Eslam was named secretary of the board for the GMJ, and "emphasized that the Global March to Jerusalem is a symbol representing the protests of the different movements from the free nations of the world against the occupation, oppression, injustice and Judaization of Jerusalem."
A GMJ delegation from Southeast Asia recently toured Iran. The group will then travel to Turkey and then hop a ferry to Lebanon, and then make its way to the border with Israel.
This is a carefully constructed, global operation. The Muslim Brotherhood alone has representatives from Jordan, Lebanon, South Africa, Egypt, and Turkey.
The GMJ's international component may prove to be its Achilles' heel. The Obama administration still has time to warn Israel's neighbors that it will not tolerate a breach of the border. Similarly, Washington can warn other countries to block the exit of activists who are bound for the march.
Obama might even reach out to his old pastor, Jeremiah Wright, who sits on the GMJ advisory board.
The need for early intervention is compelling. The region is already on tilt, thanks to multiple Arab protest movements, and ongoing tensions over the Iranian nuclear program. The last thing we need now is a new conflict in the Palestinian territories." http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/global-march-jerusalem_634753.html
The State Department weighs in, and excellent background material you can use to help make Israel's case:
http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2012/03/29/bad-timing-for-another-jerusalem-denial-from-the-state-department/
Note the one-sided, imbalanced and totally biased report posted on MSNBC's Web site in which only the Arab/Muslim/anti-Israel narrative is presented with not even an attempt to offer the Israeli/Jewish/legal perspective regarding Jerusalem:
'Global March to Jerusalem': Israel's borders on high alert as huge protests loom
By Lawahez Jabari, NBC News Producer
"RAMALLAH, West Bank - Palestinian organizers are calling for massive demonstrations on Friday to mark Land Day, an annual event that commemorates the killing of six Arabs who were protesting Israeli land policies on March 30, 1976.
Tens of thousands are expected to participate in what organizers have billed a "Global March to Jerusalem." The plan is to have protesters from neighboring countries march up to the Israeli border to "demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians and to protect Jerusalem," according to organizers.
The future status of Jerusalem is at the heart of the Palestinian movement and is the theme for the global Land Day. East Jerusalem is regarded as the likely capital of a future Palestinian state.
Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, a Palestinian activist, explained some of the reasoning for the march to NBC News during a recent interview in Ramallah.
"In light of the total failure of the peace talks, and given the Israeli destruction of the last potential two-state solution through settlement activities, we realize nothing will change unless we change the balance of power," said Barghouti. He added that organizers are trying to achieve that through this "non-violent peaceful resistance."
For many Palestinians, Land Day is an annual opportunity to demonstrate that Palestinians inside Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are united and share common goals.
This year will mark 36 years since Israel's practice of expropriating Arab land to build Jewish settlements provoked protests by Arab residents in the Galilee and Negev. In addition to the six people who were killed, over 100 wounded during the ensuing violence. Since then Palestinians have commemorated March 30 as Land Day and have turned the day into a general protest against what they see as discriminatory practices by the Israeli government. So it seemed an appropriate date for activists to hold their march.
"The Global March to Jerusalem represents three things," said Barghouti. "First of all, the unity of the Palestinian people, and their struggle to achieve freedom and end occupation, for Palestinians in and out of Palestine; second, it affirms the centrality of the issues of land and Jerusalem to achieving Palestinian freedom; and third, it provides international solidarity with the Palestinian cause."
'Absolutely peaceful'
The organizers plan to send convoys of vehicles to approach Israel's borders simultaneously from four neighboring countries: Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. According to organizers, more than 600 institutions from 64 states have been involved in planning the march. Protests are also planned outside Israeli embassies in Europe and Arab countries. Organizers say they are hoping for 1 million people to demonstrate in various protests all over the world.
"The event is meant to be a non-violent protest that will include parliament members, citizens and religious figures from all over the world - including Jews, Israelis will also protest with us," Saied Yaqin, one of the march organizers, told NBC News.
Organizers of the march insist the protests will be orderly.
"This march is absolutely peaceful and non-violent, and we will try everything possible to prevent violence," Barghouti said. "Of course, if they use violence against us, the world should protest. But the march is absolutely peaceful and nobody will try to provoke violence."
But Israeli Defense Forces aren't taking any chances.
A statement released by the IDF said they are "prepared for any eventuality and will do whatever is necessary to protect Israeli borders and residents."
Israel has also issued a stern warning to Arab countries and Palestinians to refrain from approaching the border.
Soldiers along the border have been instructed to be on high alert and they will reportedly have crowd-dispersal means at the ready and will also deploy marksmen. According to a Haaretz report, a so-called "skunk" device is being prepared that sprays a harsh-smelling substance at demonstrators." http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/29/10907912-global-march-to-jerusalem-israels-borders-on-high-alert-as-huge-protests-loom

Tips for Interacting With The Media:
Stop Media Bias Against Israel
You can help us set the record straight
You can make a difference! By writing letters to journalists or calling T.V. stations in response to
coverage of Israel, you convey that the public is alert to skewed, inaccurate or incomplete reports.
Public participation in promoting balanced, accurate coverage is essential and urgent. We encourage you
to respond regularly to unfair media portrayals of Israel. It is also important to communicate
appreciation to journalists whose reports are objective and factual.
Keep this directory handy and use it often!
Tips and Strategies
Respond while the issue is still fresh in the minds of journalists, commentators and their audience. State
the point of your letter or phone call within the first two sentences.
Be specific about why the article or broadcast was unfair.
Be concise. Most publications will not print more than 200 words for a letter to the editor. Limit your
topic. While an article or broadcast may contain numerous instances of bias, focus on just one or two.
It's better to fully explain one point than to inadequately cover five. Stick to the facts. Hostile or overly
emotional language is counterproductive.
COMMON MYTHS SPREAD BY THE MEDIA
1. MYTH: "The Arabs will make peace in exchange for territory."
FACT: When Palestinian Authority spokesmen address Arab audiences, they state openly that their
goal is the destruction of all Israel, not just the conquest of the 1967 territories, and that they adhere to
the "Strategy of Phases" - first gain some of the territories, and then use them as a springboard to invade
and destroy the rest of Israel. P.A. maps define all of Israel as "Occupied Palestine." The songs taught to
children in the P.A. schools and summer camps speak of "returning" to cities including Haifa and
Tiberias, within pre-1967 Israel.
2. MYTH: "Jewish settlements are the obstacles to peace."
FACT: Before 1967, there was constant Arab terrorism and three Arab wars against Israel - before a
single "settlement" existed. The real issue was never "settlements;" the issue has always been the
existence of the Jewish state of Israel.
3. MYTH: "The Israeli forces expelled the Arabs from Palestine in 1948."
FACT: The overwhelming majority of the Arabs who left Palestine in 1948 did so voluntarily, to get
out of the way of the war; if six Arab armies had not invaded the newborn Israel in an effort to annihilate
it, there would not be a single Arab refugee. Only a very small minority of Arab-Palestinians were
required to leave their villages, in a few cases where the Arab forces were using the residents as a shield
to attack Israeli forces - and even then, the Arabs relocated to areas just a few miles away.
4. MYTH: "Jerusalem is holy to all three major religions."
FACT: The city of Jerusalem as a whole is not sacred to Christianity or Islam; there are individual
religious sites within the city that those religions consider holy. Jerusalem is not even mentioned in the
Koran (though it is mentioned more than 600 times in the Hebrew Bible). During the centuries of
Muslim rule, Jerusalem was never made a regional capital, and when Jordan controlled eastern
Jerusalem from 1948 to 1967, no Arab leader except King Hussein ever visited it.

FoxNews.com | Published March 29, 2012
An Army sergeant and father of three from Rhode Island who gave his life to save an Afghan child from being run over by a 16-ton armored fighting vehicle is being flown back to the U.S. and will be buried Monday.
Sgt. Dennis Weichel, 29, died in Afghanistan last week after he dashed into the path of an armored fighting vehicle to scoop up the little girl, who had darted back into the roadway to pick up shell casings, according to the Army. Weichel, a Rhode Island National Guardsman, was riding in the convoy in Laghman Province in eastern Afghanistan when he jumped out to save the girl, who was unhurt.

Meet the 'Taliban Transvestites' Who Cross-Dressed In an Attempt to Infiltrate U.S. Forces
The Blaze | by Billy Hallowell | Posted on March 30, 2012 at 7:19am
Taliban fighters have proven time and time again that they'll do just about anything to defend their worldview and to infiltrate and defeat U.S. forces. In addition to adhering to violent principles, events this week show that Taliban fighters are also willing to dress in drag in order to accomplish these goals.
On Wednesday, local police in the Mehter Lam, Laghman province in Afghanistan arrested seven "Taliban transvestites."

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers.... a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Kitchen Table Patriots are joining with a confederation of other Pennsylvania Tea Party, libertarian, conservative, Constitutional, Patriot, and 9-12, organizations to have a consensus on a single candidate that reflects the passion, principles, values and commitment of the grassroots as well as has the acumen and gravitas to beat Senator Bob Casey in November. All the groups would then commit to supporting this one candidate in the primary.
To that end, we asked you vote for one of the candidates to voice your opinion. Here are the results of that polling:
Candidate | Votes | Steve Welch | 13 | Dave Christian | 21 | Marc Scaringi | 38 | Tom Smith | 90 | Sam Rohrer | 315 |
There will be a press release from the coalition soon that will include the results from all of the groups within the coalition.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in this effort. |
Yours in Liberty, The Kitchen Table Patriots

Dear Fellow Patriot,
We have a choice in this years Pennsylvania Senatorial election that will have far reaching consequences for Pennsylvania.
Roger Howard is challenging Dominic Pileggi in the 9th district. Dominic has never been challenged and with the lack of any reformative legislation coming from Harrisburg along with the redistricting fiasco, he is very vulnerable. Can you imagine replacing the third most powerful Republican in Harrisburg?
Right now what stands in our way is the ability to get the message out. We are ordering yard signs and if we had an extra $1000.00 we could double what we are ordering.
Can you make a small donation of $10, $25 or $50. It would make a big difference. Please go to the web site now

Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution
Available to you, your family, your friends, and all Americans.
Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!
 | Dr. Larry P. Arnn |
Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"
In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.
That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."
Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.
I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!
And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.
Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:
"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"
This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!
I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!
"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.
It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.
Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader. Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.
About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.
What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.
The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.
There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.
But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.
Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.
If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.
But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.
Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.
Thanks,
John Ryan

CAIR's Fight Against Pennsylvania Foreign Law Bill
by David J. Rusin FrontPage Magazine February 13, 2012
http://www.islamist-watch.org/9192/cair-fight-against-pennsylvania-foreign-law-bill
Resistance to a new bill aimed at limiting foreign law in Pennsylvania courts serves as a case study of how Islamists and their allies operate: peddling falsehoods about Shari'a, painting Muslims as victims, and denying that anyone seeks to institutionalize aspects of Islamic law - even as they vigorously promote that very agenda. With similar legislation being debated across the U.S., understanding their tactics is critical.
At issue in Pennsylvania is House Bill (HB) 2029, which stipulates that "a tribunal shall not consider a foreign legal code or system which does not grant ... the same fundamental liberties, rights and privileges" as guaranteed by the federal and state constitutions. Introduced in November, it follows the American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) model and makes no mention of Shari'a. A preliminary memo sent to legislators last June in the name of Rep. RoseMarie Swanger, HB 2029's chief sponsor, does highlight Islamic law, but she later said that it had been circulated accidentally. Regardless, concerns about Shari'a are warranted due to its many provisions that conflict with the standards of American jurisprudence. For example, it disadvantages women in terms of inheritance, divorce, child custody, and other areas of family law. Shari'a already has shaped numerous cases nationwide, including in Pennsylvania, where one state court decided how assets should be distributed according to Islam.
Pushback against HB 2029 has been led by the Philadelphia office of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-PA) and was punctuated by an interfaith press conference (video here) at CAIR-PA headquarters on December 14. The overall campaign reflects CAIR's usual recipe of distortion, victimology, and contradiction between words and deeds.
Attacks on bills like HB 2029 begin by sowing confusion about Shari'a. Because Islamic law encompasses virtually every facet of life - governing personal activities such as eating and worship, but also forming an oppressive social and legal structure - suit-and-tie Islamists work to emphasize its unthreatening pieces whenever possible. CAIR-PA executive director Moein Khawaja's suggestion that Shari'a should worry Pennsylvanians no more than halal gyros is a fine example of this technique.

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

John Stossel - May 2, 2012
The Union League of Philadelphia
Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.
Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Morning Bell: And Now the Supreme Court Must Decide
Mike Brownfield | March 29, 2012
For the past three days, the nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court heard a series of arguments on Obamacare - what promises to be one of the most seminal decisions in the Court's history. Now that the dust has settled, it appears more than likely that President Obama's signature health care law is on the verge of being struck down - perhaps even in its entirety.
The challengers to the law include more than half of the States of the Union, the National Federation of Independent Business, and private parties, while the Obama Administration is standing in defense of it. Having heard arguments on Monday on whether a law called the Anti-Injunction Act would bar the Court from considering whether Obamacare's individual mandate to purchase health insurance is unconstitutional, the Court on Tuesday moved on to examining the mandate itself and whether Congress vaulted across the Maginot Line of constitutionality when it imposed the mandate on Americans.
The liberal justices of the Court hammered the attorneys who were challenging Obamacare, leaving little doubt where they stand on the law. In their view, it appears, the Constitution's Commerce Clause, which gives Congress the authority "To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes," also empowers Congress to impose the individual mandate. As the government argued, since everyone will have to participate in the health care market at some point, the government is justified in requiring people to buy insurance today. Heritage's Todd Gaziano explains the failure of this argument:

It's Not Just the Mandate: ObamaCare's Other Infringements
By Paul Hsieh On March 29, 2012
ObamaCare supporters were hit with more bad news recently when the Congressional Budget Office announced that the health care law would cost nearly twice the original estimates [1]: $1.76 trillion over ten years rather than $940 billion. Of course, such "unexpected" cost overruns are nothing new for government programs. When Medicare was passed in 1965, it was predicted to cost $12 billion by 1990. In reality, it cost a whopping $110 billion, almost 10 times more than predicted [2].
But the escalating economic costs of ObamaCare will pale in comparison to the escalating losses of freedom.
The infringement of personal freedom receiving the most attention lately has been the "individual mandate" requiring Americans to purchase health insurance. This issue is at the heart of the current legal challenge before the U.S. Supreme Court. But ObamaCare imposes numerous other mandates and controls, including the following:

RedState Morning Briefing
For March 30, 2012
1. The World According to David Brock
David Brock says he got famous for calling Anita Hill "a slut."
That is his own description of how he became famous.
Compounding the irony, David Brock says Rush Limbaugh made him famous. That's right folks, the head of Media Matters For America, on a personal quest to destroy Rush Limbaugh after spectacularly failing to do the same to Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Anita Hill, and more, actually said, "Limbaugh was making me famous for calling Anita Hill a slut."
If you haven't paid attention these past few months, from the Daily Caller investigation into David Brock to David Brock trying to get Rush off the air, David Brock really thinks the world revolves around David Brock. And David Brock tries to set up as much spin as he can to try to make you think the world revolves around David Brock.
In fact, the reality is David Brock has a self-inflated sense of self-worth. He surrounds himself with bodyguards convinced someone somewhere wants to do him harm while he maligns the reputations of others, dabbled in illegal drugs, seemingly suffers from some level of instability, and felt obligated to pay his ex-boyfriend $850,000.00 to keep the ex-boyfriend quiet about Media Matters.
It's no wonder, with all the stories pouring out about how pathetic David Brock actually is, that David Brock is trying to divert attention to Rush Limbaugh. But you know what? Not only is the effort against Limbaugh failing, it is failing badly.
Consequently, Brock is shifting gears - bragging about the money he is raising, which he actually isn't, and trying to take credit for Cumulus Media potentially replacing the Rush Limbaugh Show with the Mike Huckabee Show, which so far hasn't panned out.
First, let's look at the failing Limbaugh campaign.
2. A Word About Charles Fried Charles Fried has suddenly become a very popular fellow on the Left. The former Reagan Solicitor General and Bill Weld appointee to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is being touted by the Washington Post's in-house left-wing activists Greg Sargent and Ezra Klein, as well as ThinkProgress and Media Matters and its frenetic professional tweeters Eric Boehlert and Oliver Willis over Professor Fried's support for the constitutionality of Obamacare. Dahlia Lithwick went further, using Prof. Fried's prediction of an 8-1 decision as evidence that "[t]he conservative legal elites don't believe in the merits of this challenge". It's not surprising that these folks are in such a rush to get the cover of a former Reagan lawyer to restore their talking point - now in tatters after a week of serious, sober and probing questioning from the Supreme Court - that only an extremist would think there is any constitutional issue at all with Obamacare. But there are some things they're not telling you about Charles Fried. Now, let me preface this by saying that I have a lot of respect for Prof. Fried. He was my constitutional law professor and probably the best teacher I had in law school, a brilliant man who had taught just about every area of law under the sun and was especially talented at bringing together the strands of disparate areas of the law. I read his book about his days as the SG before I started law school, and I respected his willingness - as a guy who is not pro-life - to argue, twice, for overturning Roe v Wade. He was also the faculty adviser for the Law School Republicans, which I headed for a time. Prof. Fried has indeed been, in the past, a longstanding member of the GOP legal establishment; he testified in favor of John Roberts' Supreme Court confirmation, and in 2006 wrote a NY Times op-ed defending his former deputy, Samuel Alito, as "not a lawless zealot but a careful lawyer with the professionalism to give legally sound but unwelcome advice" and "a person who can tell the difference between the law and his own political predilections." But if you think brilliant people can't be horribly wrong, you have not spent much time studying lawyers and the law. And if you've been reading the left-wing activists, you might not have learned that the 76-year-old Prof. Fried has not only been a vigorous defender of Obamacare who famously testified that the federal government could mandate that you buy vegetables and join a gym, he also voted for President Obama and wrote him what amounted to a political love letter last summer, wrote a book in 2010 with his son which he characterized as showing that the Bush Administration's anti-terrorism policies "broke the law" and were "disgusting and terrible and degrading," and has been a vociferous critic of the Tea Party. 3. Brave New Foundation Needs Some Brave New Basic Phone Training Meet Jesse Lava, campaign director - campaign director - at Brave New Foundation: progressive, comedy savant, and first-time user of phones. If you've never heard of the man or the group, well, no surprise there. But they do exist, and they are hilarious. Oh Jesse, you so crazy! They eat babies? YOU ARE A COMIC GENIUS! SOMEONE GET THIS MAN AN HBO SPECIAL RIGHT NOW! The fake sincerity, the outburst of laughter releasing his obvious nervousness ... you'd almost think it was a job interview or an audition or an 11 year old who just asked if your refrigerator was running. I'll hand it to him, though; he did manage not to babble on about the Kochtopus or the Illuminati. Tonight, Brave New Foundation is debuting a "documentary" titled Koch Brothers Exposed, which if the trailer is any indication, will consist in the main of accusations that the Kochs have lots of money, and that you should probably be upset about that. First day on the internet, too, one might assume. 4. American Majority Action Unveils Killer GOTV Digital Technology As a movement, we have enjoyed unparalleled growth over the past few decades, particularly, over the past few years with the advent of the Tea Party. We have more conservative thinkers, writers, talk radio hosts, and organizations than Ronald Reagan would have ever imagined. Most importantly, we have more passion and grassroots activism than ever. However, the most direct way to affect conservative change is to win elections; both primary and general. Writers, thinkers, and speakers help galvanize and unify the conservative movement, but we cannot win elections on superior ideas and arguments alone. The seminal ingredient to electoral success has not changed; it all boils down to turning out the vote and establishing an efficient and effective ground game to connect with the most consequential voters in a given district. What has changed is electronic communication. The only way to run an effective campaign in this era of mobile devices and social media is to create the perfect synergy between the venues of communication, the voter information, and the GOTV operation.

Good to see more reason and logic in the letters pages of The (confused) Jewish Week. The Jewish Week published a grotesque piece by the dangerous Abe Foxman last week, equating me with the virulent Jew-hater Louis Farrakhan. Please read my article at The American Thinker, Abe Foxman Epitomizes the Failure of Jewish Leadership. The evil that JINOs do.
Excerpt:
We have seen the likes of Abe Foxman before in Jewish history: the reviled traitor among us -- Dathan in The Ten Commandments. The idea that this greasy quisling still leads the Anti-Defamation League is a stunning indictment of the failure of Jewish lay leadership. Worse still, a Jewish press is publishing this collaborator. [...]
The capacity for humiliating, destructive behavior from Abe Foxman (and those Jews who fund the Anti-Defamation League) continues to astound and repel proud Jews across the world.
Foxman's record of poisonous activity that is ultimately harmful to the Jewish community is longstanding. His denial of the Armenian genocide is monstrous. If we as a people cannot stand with other victims of genocide, then who can? Here is a man who refuses to call the Armenian genocide of two million Christians a genocide, but who expects the Holocaust to be considered as such. What's the difference? And if he can dismiss that genocide, what differentiates him from, say, an Ahmadinejad, who denies the Holocaust? Foxman went so far as to fire an ADL regional director for disagreeing with him over the Armenian genocide. (Read the rest)
Kudos to Steve Feldman of ZOA (Zionist Organization of America) for writing to The Jewish Week and speaking out against this enemy within.

There was an amazing exchange today at the State Department press briefing when the press secretary refused to say that Jerusalem is the capital of the state of Israel. "We are not going to prejudge the outcome of those negotiations, including the final status of Jerusalem," State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland said in response the question.
When pressed further, Nuland stood her ground. "Our policy with regard to Jerusalem is that it has to be solved through negotiations. That's all I have to say on this issue," said Nuland.
Later, an apparently irritated spokesman again repeated her commitment not to answer the simple question. "I don't have anything further to what I've said 17 times on that subject," said Nuland. "OK?"
The questions were regarding this Washington Free Beacon story that highlighted the State Department's refusal to list Jerusalem as part of Israel.
Here's video of the exchange:

Israel unfazed by Obama administration's refusal to say Jerusalem is the capital
'It's our capital, no matter what anyone else is saying,' the Foreign Ministry responds, amid new-old dispute about US stance on Holy City
By Raphael Ahren March 29, 2012
Israel has no intention of creating a diplomatic fuss about the US State Department's refusal to consider Jerusalem the capital of Israel, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday. Earlier that day, a State Department spokesperson resolutely rebuffed questions as to what Israel's capital is, merely stating that the issue of Jerusalem has to be resolved through negotiations.

The Power Line West Coast Bureau in Action
Posted: 29 Mar 2012 02:02 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
So Power Line's West Coast Bureau had a meet-up last night, where John and I, duly forming a quorum as well as a majority of the board of active bloggers, made big plans for our fall election coverage, and many other things, over several (as in more than two) bottles of fine local Paso Robles wine. Naturally, we decided Scott will do most of the work. Stay tuned for some big announcements about this over the coming weeks.
Anyway, here's John describing his ordeal on California'a less than perfect coastal roads getting here yesterday, and later tonight I'll post up a second conversation where we reflect on the Obamacare Supreme Court scene.
The Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Month for the Left Posted: 29 Mar 2012 07:45 AM PDT (Steven Hayward) It is typical for politically-engaged people to note the weaknesses and defects of their own side, while overestimating the strength and prowess of their opponents. This is not a bad instinct, but sometimes it's worth stepping back and trying to view the whole scene from a neutral perspective. It is possible a neutral or objective observer would conclude that the Left has just had about the worst month in longer than I can recall. First came the Sandra Fluke controversy. What looked like a well-staged triumph for the Left because of a rare overreach by Rush Limbaugh resulted instead in a ferocious blowback against Bill Maher, Louis C.K. (cancelled from the White House correspondents' dinner because of his vile comments about Sarah Palin), and HBO, while Rush's ratings have spiked and advertisers came groveling back after the anti-Rush boycott was revealed to have been trumped up by Media Matters. Meanwhile, while the media elites identify with Fluke as one of their own, it is less clear that ordinary Americans think the government owes free contraception to 30-year old college students.
The legend of Earl Scruggs Posted: 29 Mar 2012 05:15 AM PDT (Scott Johnson) The death of Earl Scruggs at the age of 88 represents the passing of a giant. Even if you have never heard of him, you've heard his music. He made the banjo an instrument to be reckoned with in the three-finger picking style that he perfected and popularized on the instrument. As Chris Talbot writes in his AP tribute: "It is impossible to overstate the importance of Earl Scruggs to American music. A pioneering banjo player who helped create modern country music, his sound is instantly recognizable and as intrinsically wrapped in the tapestry of the genre as Johnny Cash's baritone or Hank Williams' heartbreak." Christopher Lehmann-Haupts's New York Times obituary builds on and extends the AP tribute. The Los Angeles Times obituary by Randy Lewis is also a keeper. Scruggs rose to fame as a member of the postwar version of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. Scruggs auditioned for Monroe after the comic banjo player Stringbean departed Monroe's group. According to Neil Rosenberg, in Bluegrass: A History, Bluegrass Boys guitarist Lester Flatt was not crazy about replacing Stringbean, but the audition changed his mind. The audition left him "[j]ust dumbfounded. I had never heard anybody pick a banjo like he did. He could go all over the neck and do things you just couldn't hardly believe." (Rosenberg also explores the origins of Scruggs's three-finger style.) Flatt and Scruggs struck out on their own in 1948 and the rest is history. His influence on the Cosmic American Music is deep and lasting. One of Scruggs's best-known songs is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown." In the video below, Scruggs plays the song accompanied by Nashville all-star pickers including Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill and Jerry Douglas. This is what I now understand to be heavy metal. What goes under the name, not so much. In the video below, posted here several times previously, Scruggs visits Joan Baez at home in California and asks her to play Bob Dylan's "Love Is Just a Four-Letter Word" for his 1972 special, Earl Scruggs: His Family & Friends. Scruggs takes a solo, as does Earl's son Randy. The video illustrates his love of new music, his great taste, his beautiful playing and his extension of the boundaries for the instrument of which he was a virtuoso. RIP.
The famed sisters of "Wonderful Town" Posted: 28 Mar 2012 06:10 PM PDT (Scott Johnson) Our friend Bill Katz holds down the fort at Urgent Agenda. He writes to follow up on my brief celebration of "Wonderful Town," the Wonderful Musical that I saw on Broadway in the 2004 revival starring Donna Murphy. Bill adds back into the mix much of the incredible human interest that I left out of the story: Earlier this week Scott wrote a piece on the musical, "Wonderful Town," which originally opened on Broadway in 1953, and won five Tony awards. It has always been one of my favorites, in part because of Leonard Bernstein's music. (After "Wonderful Town" he went on to write the music for "Candide" and "West Side Story.") As Scott noted, "Wonderful Town" was based on "My Sister Eileen," and therein lies a story of two sisters, of triumph, and, sadly, of great tragedy, and then, in a new generation, renewal. "My Sister Eileen" originated in a series of short, autobiographical stories by Ruth McKenney in the New Yorker in the 1930s. They depicted the lives of Ruth and her sister Eileen, who moved from Ohio and ultimately found their way to a basement apartment at 14 Gay Street in New York's Greenwich Village. (The name has nothing to do with sexual orientation. The street was named in the 1800s for the editor and abolitionist Sidney Howard Gay.) The series was so successful that Ruth, by now a respected author, turned it into a book in 1938. Americans were charmed by the adventures of these two young Midwestern girls, first in Ohio, and then in Depression-era New York - Ruth, the more intellectual sister, and Eileen, the prettier, stage-struck, younger sister. ("Men," said Ruth, "did not look at Eileen....They looked paralyzed.") In turn, "My Sister Eileen" was acquired for the stage, with the production scheduled to open on December 26, 1940. By then, Eileen McKenney had moved on to Hollywood, employed by Walt Disney, and was heading for a film career. She had also married the rising American writer, Nathanael West, who had written The Day of the Locust. All seemed so good, and so positive. Eileen and Nathan were preparing to travel to New York to attend the Broadway opening of "My Sister Eileen," when their close friend, F. Scott Fitzgerald, died suddenly of a heart attack in Los Angeles. They set out by station wagon to attend the funeral. Along the way, West ran a stop sign, resulting in a horrible collision. Eileen, aged 26, died instantly. West, aged 37, died within an hour. "My Sister Eileen" opened on schedule four days later, but Ruth McKenney, grief-stricken, would not go. Indeed, she never saw the play, which became one of the biggest hits in Broadway history, and never got over the death of her sister Eileen. Nathanael's and Eileen's cremated ashes were buried in a cemetery in New York, where West had grown up. There is no separate marker for Eileen. The gravestone simply says: Nathanael W. West Husband of Eileen Oct. 17, 1903 Dec. 22, 1940 Ruth McKenney had gotten married in 1937 to the writer Richard Bransten. Both were Communists, but were later purged from the party. After Eileen died in that tragic car crash, Ruth and Richard had a daughter, whom they naturally named Eileen. They also had a son. Ruth McKenney never matched the success of "My Sister Eileen." She and her husband lived in England after World War II, but, on Ruth's 44th birthday, in 1955, Richard Bransten committed suicide. Ruth returned to the United States, lived in New York, and never wrote again. She died in 1972 at the age of 60, having lived a life of triumph and sadness. The play, "My Sister Eileen," and its musical descendant, "Wonderful Town," continue to be performed today. As Scott noted, the 1942 film of the original play was shown just recently on television. But there is renewal. What happened, you might ask, to the other Eileen, Ruth McKenney's daughter, named for Ruth's sister Eileen? Justice Eileen Bransten is today a justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. She is a highly regarded jurist, lecturer and teacher of law. Her chambers, on Centre Street in Manhattan, are only a few neighborhoods away from the basement apartment at 14 Gay Street where "My Sister Eileen" took form. The judge has said of her mother, "If you scratch the surface, every humorist is a tragedian. She had a tragic life, a very sad life." In a New York Times story, Justice Bransten also observed, "She loved New York. It made her feel vibrant. In her last years, when we lived together on West 70th Street and I was beginning to go into politics, we would have parties. All the politicians would come to see her. She was so happy doing that." (I lived two blocks away during that time and never knew they were there. I'd have killed for an invitation.) The basement apartment at 14 Gay Street still exists. It was occupied for 30 years by a man named David Ryan, a retired insurance executive who jealously guarded the character of the apartment and its neighborhood. He was revered by preservationists, but tragically died in a fire, in that apartment, in 2003. Next door to 14 Gay Street is 12 Gay Street. In its basement apartment, adjoining the apartment of Ruth and Eileen, once lived the puppeteer, Frank Paris. In the late 1940s he designed, in his apartment, a puppet named Howdy Doody. |

Obamacare: Court Leans Toward All-or-Nothing Solution By Ben Shapiro Breitbart.com
Today's oral argument at the Supreme Court focused on two specific issues: the so-called Medicaid mandate and the question of severability - that is, whether the Court can strike down the individual mandate or Medicaid mandate and "sever" the rest of the bill so that it survives. As with yesterday, Paul Clement argued on behalf of the states challenging Obamacare; Edwin Kneedler, deputy solicitor general, argued on behalf of the federal government. The bulk of the argument focused on severability.

Secretary Chu's $10 Million Fiasco
By Diane Katz
During a hearing last week of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso (R) asked Energy Secretary Steven Chu a seemingly simple question: "(D)o you think a $50 light bulb is affordable for American families?"
"No, absolutely not," Chu replied.
Well, if that's the case, why did Chu award a $10 million top prize for a $50 light bulb in his department's competition for an "affordable" light? (FYI: The winner, Philips Lighting N.A., a division of the Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics, was the only contestant.)

Featured Research The Ryan Budget: Confronting the Nation's Spending Crisis By Alison Acosta Fraser and Patrick Louis Knudsen In the few months since Washington's dramatic debt ceiling confrontation, America's fiscal situation has only worsened. Federal spending is set to soar past previous record-shattering levels, endangering the economic future of the nation. This is a moral issue because younger generations will be forced to bear either staggering levels of debt or crushing taxes, or both. It is also a political challenge to this nation's democracy as more and more Americans become dependent on government benefits while lawmakers seem unable to take decisive corrective action. The spending-driven debt crises of Greece and Italy are clear and compelling evidence that America must urgently change course. The only way to avoid a similar fate is to make bold, substantive changes in the size, scope, and purpose of the federal government. Toward that goal, House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) has released a proposed federal budget resolution for fiscal year (FY) 2013 entitled The Path to Prosperity: A Blueprint for American Renewal. The plan lays out a comprehensive series of solutions to fix the nation's twin crises of spending and debt. It rolls back the spending excesses of the past, tackles entitlement programs, makes defense a priority, and undertakes an important growth agenda to unleash America's free enterprise system and get Americans back to work. >> Click here to read the rest of the story |

March 29, 2012 Why Religious Liberty is Important for Institutions
The anti-conscience mandate in the President's health care law (commonly referred to as Obamacare) has raised many questions about freedom. One of them is whether religious liberty is only for individuals or also for institutions.
America's founders thought that the Constitution's "first freedom" is for both, a view backed up by the United States Supreme Court as well as numerous federal and state statutes.
Why is religious liberty important for institutions? Because of our relational nature as humans.
We are relational beings at our core. Everyone exists in some form of relationship to others. In fact, we become who we are-we develop our own unique habits and views-in the context of these relationships. We need to think of ourselves and others not merely as self-standing individuals but as persons in community.
There is something deep within human nature that prompts us to seek out membership in communities of purpose-to desire to be on the inside of a meaningful group and to participate in something larger than oneself. This "quest for community," as Robert Nisbet calls it, plays out largely through social institutions.
In their essence, institutions are structured relationships. They are habits of activity that bind people together in a common purpose through time.
Schools bring people together to engage in teaching and learning. Hospitals bring people together around the purposes of healing and health. Businesses coordinate work activity toward a common productive goal. Churches bind members together to worship and follow God.
All of these institutions facilitate joint, fundamental activities and relationships of human life. We live and move and accomplish basic needs in institutions. Through institutions, we gain a sense of connection with the larger social realities of life. We form and express our identity through institutions. As relational beings, that's how we're wired.
True liberty must take account of the relational aspect of human nature. And true religious liberty, in particular, must entail the freedom to exercise one's faith in the various relationships and joint activities of day-to-day life. In other words, religious freedom applies to participation in institutions.
Each one of those institutions-our particular school, church, workplace, etc.-takes on a certain culture or identity. And that identity is shaped in large part by the values, beliefs, and habits of its members. A school might follow a particular dress code; a church follows certain standards of behavior or worship; a place of work sets certain working conditions and provides certain employee benefits.
All of these particular value-laden marks of an institution help to form its identity and accomplish the tasks for which it was formed. And since participation in institutions is basic to human life, true freedom includes the ability to form and shape, enter and leave institutions that reflect our deepest values and convictions.
Historically, the Judeo-Christian tradition has understood this relational aspect of being human and emphasized the communal nature of faith. In fact, the Latin root of religion is religio, meaning "to bind." Religious communities and institutions bind people vertically to God and horizontally to one another. And they play a significant role in human life and society-in terms of not only spiritual fulfillment or self-realization but also addressing social challenges and sustaining democratic order. Obamacare's Biggest Failures This week the U.S. Supreme Court has heard arguments on the dangers and far-reaching implications of the new health care law - commonly known as Obamacare. Although the bill's major provisions don't begin until 2014, some have already been implemented. The parts of the law already in effect were thought by its proponents to be its most popular, but as detailed in Heritage's "The Obamacare Two-Year Checkup: More Reasons for Repeal," the law is already proving ineffective in some cases and harmful in others. Here are some of the biggest failures of Obamacare highlighted by the paper:
- "Free" preventive services cost Americans. Obamacare requires coverage of certain preventive services with no cost-sharing for the individual. Two years later, the list includes abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization, and other contraceptives as mandated coverage-even for many religious organizations.
- A failing small business tax credit. Obamacare provides a temporary tax credit to small employers as an incentive for them to offer health insurance to their employees. Two years later, the IRS reports that only 7 percent of the originally estimated 4.4 million eligible small businesses have claimed the credit.
- A broke program for early retirees. Obamacare established a temporary reinsurance program from May 2010 to January 2014 to pay a portion of companies' costs to insure early retirees between the ages of 55 and 65. Two years later, the program ran out of money almost three years early and is no longer accepting additional applications. As Heritage analysts explain, the program "clearly shifts the costs of paying for unsustainable promises made to public and private employees to federal taxpayers and further underscores how the true cost of implementing the health care law exceeds original estimates."

NBC's Andrea Mitchell Praises 'Highly Regarded' Cuban Health Care System Indoctrinating U.S. Med Students
Media Research Center | By Kyle Drennen | Published: 3/29/2012 9:36 AM ET
In a piece of propaganda that would make Cuba's Castro regime proud, on her Tuesday MSNBC program, NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell cheered the communist state's "highly reg arded" health care system, "and especially one of Fidel Castro's signature projects, which is training doctors, doctors who then provide free medical care throughout Latin America."
Mitchell proclaimed: "As the U.S. debates health care....We went back to the Latin American medical school here to talk to American medical students about what they're learning about medicine, about Cuba, and about themselves." That soon became disturbingly apparent as student Cynthia Aguilera gushed: "...after graduating with no debt, no worries about paying off loans and having to get a high-paying job, we can return to our communities [in the U.S.] and work in them and try to uplift them the same way that Cuba uplifted us."

Affirmative Action and Radical Politics
By Abraham H. Miller On March 22, 2012
When I read Thomas Sowell's column [1] (March 13, 2012) about an African American graduate student in mathematics at a prestigious university who had his dissertation written for him, I was shocked. Not because after spending more than three decades in academia I didn't know such things existed. I just didn't know they existed in mathematics and, perhaps, the real sciences. I thought that kind of intellectual corruption was confined to the social sciences and humanities.
So familiar am I with the process of writing dissertations for black students that I believe I can claim to know the professor who thinks he invented it. In fact, he alleges to have devised the euphemism to cover it up, which he "brilliantly" called "heavy editing." Were he to come forth and accept recognition for this achievement, it would be the singular and most palpable accomplishment of his academic career.
To be a black graduate student and be constantly reminded that your race results in the special privilege of having a dissertation written for you does nothing for your self-esteem. To survive in this kind of intellectually abusive environment, one must turn against it. One must deny its legitimacy. If one weren't radicalized before, one most certainly is radicalized afterward.
This explains Derek Bell's critical race theory. Bell knew that he was not qualified to teach at Harvard. He proposed a theoretical standard by which Harvard was not qualified to judge him. Barack Obama's admission to Columbia University remains a mystery. He became the president of the Harvard Law Review without ever having written an article for it. Obama knew that he was where he was because of his race. He too embraced a cultural explanation of a different reality and a political radicalization that affirmed that reality.

On MARCH 28, 1885, the Salvation Army was organized in the United States. It was begun in England by "General" William Booth in 1865, who conducted meetings among the poor in London's East End slums. Originally named the Christian Mission, he designed uniforms and adopted a semi-military system of leadership. On December 1, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson remarked to the Salvation Army in New York: "For a century now, the Salvation Army has offered food to the hungry and shelter to the homeless-in clinics and children's homes, through disaster relief, in prison and welfare work, and a thousand other endeavors. In that century you have proved time and again the power of a handshake, a meal, and a song. But you have not stopped there. You have demonstrated also the power of a great idea." President Lyndon Johnson continued: "The voice of the Salvation Army ... Continue Reading:American Minute March 28

Left panic stricken as Justice Scalia says ObamaCare's individual mandate Constitutionally "not proper"
Mar 28, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
In Tuesday's oral arguments before the Supreme Court, Solicitor General and chief ObamaCare advocate Donald Verrilli was presented with a substantial portion of his own posterior by Justice Antonin Scalia.
The summary execution began when Verrilli made the extraordinary mistake of schooling the Court on the proper meaning of its own decisions.
"No it didn't," said Scalia to the stunned Solicitor General in reference to his errant references to the significance of previous cases.
And what followed was a merciless barrage of facts exposing the overreach of the individual mandate, ObamaCare's method of creating "fairness in healthcare" by making those who do not want to purchase insurance buy it anyway or suffer a penalty.
When US District Judge Roger Vinson found ObamaCare unconstitutional in 2011 he wrote simply "If Congress can penalize a passive individual for failing to engage in commerce...it would be 'difficult to perceive any limitation on federal ... "A universal peace, it is to be feared, is in the catalogue of events, which will never exist but in the imaginations of visionary philosophers, or in the breasts of benevolent enthusiasts." --James Madison
Editorial Exegesis
National insecurity
"A conversation between President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was caught on a microphone that neither man realized was live. 'On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved,' Obama said. 'But it's important for [incoming Russian President Vladimir Putin] to give me space ... This is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility.' 'I understand,' Medvedev responded. 'I will transmit this information to Vladimir.' ... This unfortunate hot-mic exchange will have security implications, and it will surely sour our relations with allies in that part of the world. But as much as America's allies might be angered by Obama's words, Americans should be even more so. Their president -- the man charged with conducting America's foreign policy and overseeing its defense -- told another world leader that he is willing to make concessions on an important issue once he has finally and permanently escaped accountability to them. ... Set aside the important question of missile defense -- Obama was a skeptic on that long before he ran for president. This magic microphone moment calls into question Obama's concept of government service. If he is acting in Americans' interests, why must he hide his intentions until his second term? The incident also suggests a rather dim view of American citizens -- as rabble unable to grasp the pros and cons of issues like missile defense. ... This new incident with Medvedev ... sends a message about Obama. His real foreign policy is not necessarily the foreign policy he wants Americans to think he is conducting." --The Washington Examiner
Post your opinion: How do you rate Obama's handling of national defense?
Upright
"One of the big issues of this election will be what Mr. Obama might do in a second term once he is unchecked by any future electoral constraints. ... The worry is especially apt on national security, where Congress has far less power to limit Presidential policies. Mr. Putin wants to limit or kill U.S. missile defenses in Europe and elsewhere. Mr. Obama hasn't dared to cut such an arms control deal in his first term, but what about in a second? In 2001, he told a Chicago TV station that 'I don't agree with a missile defense system.' ... But one of the lessons of Mr. Obama's first three years is that when he said he wanted to transform America, he wasn't kidding. He probably meant what he told Mr. Medvedev too." --The Wall Street Journal
"If the Supreme Court agrees with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit that the insurance mandate cannot be justified as a regulation of interstate commerce, it may be 'a huge symbolic victory for limited government,' as Georgetown law professor Randy Barnett says. But it will still leave in place an absurdly broad reading of the Commerce Clause.... Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who dissented from a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit that upheld the mandate on Commerce Clause grounds, argued that 'just a minor tweak to the current statutory language would definitively establish the law's constitutionality under the Taxing Power.' ... In other words, Congress could accomplish exactly the same thing by wording it a little bit differently. ... We might wish taxes were used simply to pay for the government's legitimate functions, but that is not how things are. ... As currently interpreted, it also involves the power to manipulate us into submission." --columnist Jacob Sullum
"The facts of the Trayvon Martin case are still unclear. But that hasn't stopped the all-knowing, all-seeing President Obama from voicing his opinion of the situation. ... Obama implies that we all share some collective guilt for Trayvon's killing. ... [A]s Rahm Emanuel might put it, in every tragic death lies a liberal opportunity. When Communist Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated JFK, liberals quickly blamed it on a supposed 'climate of hate'.... When nutcase Jared Loughner shot Gabby Giffords, the left quickly suggested that it was overheated rhetoric that had led to the shooting. When Islamists riot in the Middle East, President Obama suggests that it's all our fault for backing Israel. ... President Obama's rhetorical flourish was far more than a rhetorical flourish. It was an active attempt to change the narrative, to magnify the Trayvon situation into an 'America is racist, and you're part of it' meme." --columnist Ben Shapiro
"Crime is one of the results of the liberal agenda. Blacks are 13 percent of the population but are more than 50 percent of murder victims. About 95 percent of black homicide victims had a black person as their murderer. Blacks are not only the major victims of murder but also suffer high victimization rates of all categories of serious violent crime. Most often, another black is the perpetrator. ... The liberal agenda, coupled with courts granting criminals new rights, later caused the murder rate to double, and the rates of other violent crimes also began to skyrocket." --economist Walter E. Williams

Unilateral disarmament: "American leadership has been essential to progress in a second area -- taking concrete steps towards a world without nuclear weapons. I believe the United States has a unique responsibility to act -- indeed, we have a moral obligation." --Barack Obama
Blame game: "Obviously, we wish Solyndra hadn't gone bankrupt. Part of the reason they did was because the Chinese were subsidizing their solar industry and flooding the market in ways that Solyndra couldn't compete. But understand, this was not our program per se." --Barack Obama
Race bait: "You know, if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon. All of us have to do some soul-searching to figure out how does something like this happen." --Barack Obama
"[Trayvon Martin] was executed for 'WWB' in a 'GC.' Walking While Black in a Gated Community." --Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA)
"This is Treyvon Martin. Trayvon Martin's murderer is still at large. It's been one month, thirty days, with no arrest. I want America to see this sweet young boy who was hunted down like a dog, shot in the street, and his killer is still at large." --Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL)
Putting up the circus tents because of the Florida shooting: "I am sending a letter to the Justice Department to ask them to expand their investigation into the general application of these 'stand your ground' laws, whether they actually increase, rather than decrease, violence, and whether they actually prevent law enforcement from prosecuting cases where a real crime has been committed." --Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Over the top: "This Congress has put forth some of the worst attacks on women's health care that any of us have seen in our lifetime. In fact, the level of these attacks on women's health that we've seen make a lot of us wonder whether we're in the Dark Ages or in fact whether we're in the 21st century." --Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO)
Dezinformatsia
Legal gymnastics: "[W]e believe the government has the better of the policy and legal case for why the individual mandate is necessary and constitutional. ... The mandate is an indispensable tool for achieving the government's compelling goals of universal coverage and lower costs. Insurance companies would be unable to offer affordable coverage to those with preexisting conditions, for example, unless they also were guaranteed enrollment of the young and healthy customers who are less likely to consume health-care services." --Washington Post editorial
Talking points: "So if you force everyone to buy insurance that means the insurance companies have more money, right? So that they can afford to cover people with pre-existing conditions. So they can afford to do that." --CNN's Carol Costello
It's not a gun problem: "And this is where the problem with guns comes, because if you just -- are a person who's a little off and has some false sense of power, that's one thing if you don't have a gun in your hand. ... I'm saying the gun is the problem. That's what kills you." --ABC's Cokie Roberts
Just bizarre: "You know, right now, we're actually safer than we've been at any time since the end of the Reagan administration. Murder rates started to spike when Ronald Reagan came into office as the economy crashed, and they actually reached a peak in 1991, about three years after Reagan left office, before Bill Clinton was able to turn it around with, you know, by raising taxes. ... Crime was going up during the Reagan administration and I would submit to you that it was going up because he had destroyed the economy." --radio talk-show host Thom Hartmann
Politicize everything: "[Dick Cheney's heart transplant] has raised a lot of ethical questions, moral questions, about whether the vice president, in fact, should have received his heart against -- ahead of other people. ... When a patient Cheney's age receives such a scarce, life-extending organ, some doctors question whether hospitals are depriving younger patients, who typically survive longer after the surgery." --NBC chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman (For the record, Cheney was on a waiting list for 20 months -- more than the average patient.)

The Supreme Court has concluded three days of hearings about the constitutionality Obamacare. Now the American people await the decision of the nine justices.
"Now that the dust has settled," The Heritage Foundation's Mike Brownfield argues, "it appears more than likely that President Obama's signature health care law is on the verge of being struck down - perhaps even in its entirety."
Heritage experts have been providing up-to-the-minute coverage of the case at www.heritage.org/obamacare

- The Supreme Court held a third and final day of arguments on the legal challenge to Obamacare yesterday. The Court's session concentrated on whether, if the individual mandate is held unconstitutional, it can be cleanly severed from the rest of Obamacare, and if not, what other portions of the act must the Court strike down with it. Heritage Senior Legal Fellow Hans von Spakovsky spoke for Heritage after the first of two hearings let out Wednesday morning. Watch the two part video of his recap.
Every year, The Heritage Foundation's hosts more than 180 public events, featuring authors, lawmakers, outside analysts and Heritage experts.
These events are all coordinated by one man: John Hilboldt.
Hilboldt, Heritage's director of lectures and seminars, aims to keep the event topics and speakers as varied as the issues Heritage works on. This month alone, Heritage has hosted events on topics ranging from education reform, maritime security, Obamacare, how America is viewed in the world, Cuba, and the federal budget, to name a few.
Some of the speakers have left a real impression. Hilboldt recalls events featuring Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), General David Petraeus, President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
More powerful still are events that stir the emotions. This includes a panel of seven Iraqis maimed by Saddam Hussein for doing business with the outside world and the visit of two men who served in "Easy Company," the paratroopers portrayed in HBO's Band of Brothers.

Ed Feulner Explains How Paul Ryan's 'Bold' Budget Funds Defense in the Wall Street Journal
The budget proposal Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) submitted last week has come under attack from liberals in part because it takes important steps to rein in runaway federal spending.
As Heritage Foundation President Ed Feulner writes in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, Ryan's plan would also avoid harmful cuts to national defense-a key constitutional obligation of the federal government.
Writing with Arthur Brooks of the American Enterprise Institute and William Kristol of the Foreign Policy Initiative, Feulner explains "why Mr. Ryan's plan is so bold":
|
The Ryan budget is not perfect for some conservatives. Many would like to see American military spending restored more rapidly and an even more aggressive approach to tackling the entitlement problem. But Mr. Ryan's budget is a choice about our future, and this is a time to choose-not hide behind the sequestration process.

The Bankrupt Race Card
The Trayvon Martin case is a wholly familiar one to residents of any major urban city. If you live in Chicago, New York or Los Angeles, then it's only a matter of time until an incident between a law enforcement officer, or more rarely a civilian defending himself, and a member of a minority group flares up into a citywide grievance theater complete with angry reverends on the steps of City Hall, women with stony faces holding up banners calling for justice and a media driven debate about police tactics and racism. This sort of thing happens with depressing regularity in cities where even the most liberal residents have to choose between police overreach and being murdered. It never leads to meaningful debate or a resolution, instead it peters out with the best actors in the grievance theater picking up money and influence, the media selling a few more papers or ads for nasal polyp relief on the drive time news and everything going back to the way it was. The grievance theater is never really about the specific case, the specific shooting, it's about the links between the social problems of the black community, the compromises of civil liberties necessary to keep entire cities from turning into Detroit and the inability of the media to address the sources of crime as anything but the phantoms of white racism. It's about a black leadership that is more interested in posturing as angry activists and shaking loose some money, than in healing their own community's problems. And so the same story repeats itself again and again without an honest dialogue or anything meaningful coming out of it. But grievance theater has been going national. It's no longer just extraordinary cases like Bernie Goetz's Death Wish moment on the number 2 train that briefly catch hold of the national conversation. The obsessive coverage of the so-called Jena 6 case, an incident of so little internal meaning, signaled that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would no longer just be able to drive a local controversy, they now had the freedom to drive national controversies any time they wanted to. Trayvon Martin is their big moment.

News from The Hill:
Ryan budget passes House with 10 Republican defections By Pete Kasperowicz
The House approved a 2013 budget resolution from Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Ohio) on Thursday by a 228-191 vote, and suffered just 10 GOP defections compared to four last year.
This year's vote was by a narrower margin than the 2011 vote that passed Ryan's budget 235-193. This year and last, all Democrats voted "no."

Senate approves 90-day highway extension; sending measure to President Obama By Keith Laing
The Senate approved the extension of federal highway funding that was passed by the House Thursday, accepting a short-term solution leaders in the chamber vehemently opposed.
The measure, H.R 4281, now to President Obama. It extends the current funding for road and transit projects until June 30, the ninth-such continuance of the last multi-year highway authorization that was approved by Congress, which expired in 2009.
Even as they were approving the measure in an anti-climatic voice vote, Democrats sharply criticized Republicans for not accepting a two-year, $109 billion version of the transportation measure the Senate had approved on a bipartisan vote earlier this month.

Thursday, March 29, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 222 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Robert Zimmerman Speaks Robert Zimmerman, the father of George Zimmerman, is speaking out against the circus-like atmosphere in Sanford, Florida, that is being driven by the left-wing media, liberal politicians and an assortment of race-baiters. Fearing for his own safety, Robert Zimmerman spoke with a local Fox News station on the condition that his face not be shown. Here's part of what he said:
"I never foresaw so much hate coming from the president, the Congressional Black Caucus, the NAACP. Every organization imaginable is trying to get notoriety or profit from this in some way. But there is so much hate. I have never been involved in hate. George hasn't. It is really unbelievable."
What is Robert Zimmerman referring to? He's talking about the New Black Panthers, which offered a $10,000 bounty for his son -- dead or alive. He's talking about this Twitter account, advocating his son's death. [WARNING: GRAPHIC LANGUAGE.] He's referring to members of Congress suggesting that Zimmerman be arrested for his own safety. He's referring to the president of the United States stoking the fires. After the Fort Hood shooting, President Obama gave Nidal Hasan the benefit of the doubt, telling the country, "We don't know all the answers yet. And I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts." But when it came to George Zimmerman, Obama assumes Zimmerman is guilty, a racist and virtually adopted the slain boy, saying, "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. ...If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon." By the way, the media's behavior has been completely reckless and irresponsible. Unbelievably, ABC News published the name of one of the witnesses who corroborated Zimmerman's account of the events that led to the shooting. This particular witness, whose identity and safety has been compromised by ABC News, is a 13 year-old boy. In the same story, ABC would not publish the name of Martin's 16 year-old girlfriend. Obama's Lawyer Begs Justices For Restraint I had to laugh reading the Washington Post's summary of yesterday's ObamaCare arguments before the Supreme Court. According to the Post, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, Jr., the Obama Administration's top attorney, begged the justices in an "emotional plea" to show restraint and uphold ObamaCare. Here's what Verrilli said:
"The Congress struggled with the issue of how to deal with this profound problem of 40 million people without health care for many years, and it made a judgment. Maybe they were right, maybe they weren't, but this is something about which the people of the United States can deliberate and they can vote, and if they think it needs to be changed, they can change it."
What irony! Obama and his Democrat allies showed no restraint at all when they took over Washington in January 2009. They shoved ObamaCare down our throats, using every means possible from parliamentary maneuvers to bribes like the "Cornhusker kickback." After "deliberating" about it, the American people fired Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and sent scores of new conservatives to Congress in the 2010 elections. What do the American people think about ObamaCare now? A large majority (56%) wants it repealed, and an overwhelming majority (72%) believes ObamaCare's individual mandate is unconstitutional. And that is the issue before the justices now: Is Obama's signature initiative legal or not? But there is even more irony in Verrilli's statement. Here's a man who is part of the most liberal administration in history. He's part of the left-wing movement that routinely goes before the courts and urges liberal judicial activists to ignore the will of the people, regardless of how they have voted. The people of 30 states have voted to define marriage as the union of one man one woman. But this administration is right now trying to get the federal courts to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act. The people of Arizona wanted to crack down on illegal immigration. But this administration sued to overturn its popular law. The people of South Carolina and Texas wanted to ensure the integrity of elections in their states. This administration is blocking enforcement of their voter ID laws. But now that the Obama Administration is trying to save its deeply unpopular and constitutionally flawed health care scheme, it has suddenly found a use for judicial restraint. Spinning The Numbers The Labor Department reported today that new claims for jobless benefits fell by 5,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 359,000. That's good news right? Maybe not. After all, the previous week the figure was 348,000 new claims. What happened? Buried in today's report is the fact that last week's figures are revised up to 364,000. But that's not likely to be the headline in any reporting on the latest figures. Last week, CNN reported, "The number of first-time filers for unemployment benefits fell to a four-year low last week, hinting that solid job growth likely continued in March." Today, CNN reports, "In another sign of improvement in the labor market, the number of people filing for unemployment benefits once again fell to a four-year low last week." So for the past two weeks, the Obama Administration has gotten glowing headlines for an improving jobs picture when in fact the number of people claiming unemployment benefits increased from 348,000 to 364,000. Unanimous Agreement In Washington With partisanship at an all-time high, the House of Representatives finally agreed on something. In fact, the vote was unanimous -- 414-to-0. What could garner that kind of bi-partisan support? Motherhood and apple pie? No, that would be unanimous opposition Barack Obama's budget. Noting that no House Democrat had introduced a budget based on Obama's proposals, Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) did it for them. Not one House Democrat supported it. Who could blame them? After all, Obama has added more to the national debt in three years than George W. Bush did in eight!

This time Romney tried to tell a 'humorous' story, but most people won't see the hilarity in this one. Glenn explains on radio today.
