Do you remember the famous ABC radio news commentator Paul Harvey?
Millions of Americans listened to his programs which were broadcast over 1,200 radio stations nationwide.
The following commentary was broadcast 47 years ago.... April 3, 1965.
I hope you will listen to this. It's short...less than 3 minutes.Notice especially what he said in 7 seconds, from 1:57 to 2:04 in the broadcast.

Obama seizes control over all food, farms, livestock, farm equipment, fertilizer and food production across America
Tuesday, March 20, 2012 by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger Editor of NaturalNews.com (See all articles...)
(NaturalNews) "We told ya so" just doesn't quite cut it anymore. As the American sheeple slept, selfishly refusing to take a stand against tyranny, the Obama administration has been plotting what can only be called a total government takeover of America. On March 16, 2012, President Obama issued an executive order entitled, "NATIONAL DEFENSE RESOURCES PREPAREDNESS." ( http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/16/executive-order...) This executive order states that the President alone has the authority to take over all resources in the nation (labor, food, industry, etc.) as long as it is done "to promote the national defense" -- a phrase so vague that it could mean practically anything. The power to seize control and take over these resources is delegated to the following government authorities: Read More . . .

US Intelligence to keep tabs on Americans with no ties to terror
Associated Press | Published March 22, 2012
The U.S. intelligence community will be able to store information about Americans with no ties to terrorism for up to five years under new Obama administration guidelines. Until now, the National Counterterrorism Center had to destroy immediately information about Americans that already was stored in other government databases when there were no clear ties to terrorism.

'Democrats, Socialists and Communists...We Are All Together': Piven Draws Chilling Connections
Posted on March 22, 2012 at 4:20pm by Benny Johnson
According to Frances Fox Piven:
- The Occupy Movement is made up of "All parts of the Left."
- That includes proudly: "Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Anarchists."
- Must all work together because of the "Huge task of transforming America and the world."
- "We are all together"
At last weekend's Left Forum 2012, the annual pep-rally for liberal thought, renown leftist professor and activist Frances Fox Piven shown some light onto the makeup of the current America Left. In this minute of audio, Piven tells the packed auditorium which worldview philosophies embody their movement:
"There is room for all of us. Religious leftists, people who think peace is the answer, those who think that wholesome food is what we really need, ecologists and old-fashioned Democrats, Democratic Socialists, Socialists and Communists."

Mr. Denton's talk will reveal the inner workings of The Times newspaper in London and, most of all, the mind of Editor Geoffrey Dawson during the age of appeasement, from Hitler's reviving of Conscription in Germany in March 1935 to Lord Halifax being sent as Ambassador to Washington in December 1940. Mr. Denton will also discuss how Dawson used The Times to manipulate public opinion and influence government policies to promote an accord with Hitler and Nazism.
In the first of its kind, Mr. Denton, flying in from Europe, will be launching his book, Appeasing Times, through the Temple University Students for Intellectual Freedom platform.
The talk will take place in Mitten Hall 250.
The event is free of charge and open to the public.

From our friend Diana Reimer from Philadelphia Tea Party Patriots
Road to Repeal Rally Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 12pm Upper Senate Park, Washington, DC
Join us on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 12pm in Washington, DC as we begin our journey down the Road to Repeal.
Are you worried about Government run health care? Are you opposed to the Federal government making medical choices for you? Join thousands of patriots who share your views on ObamaCare. Come to Washington, DC and be a part of the Road to Repeal Rally.
A majority of Americans view government run health care as a sign of what's to come from big government. More politics, more control and less personal choice.
Recent decisions by the US Department of Health and Human Services show precisely how government run healthcare will work. The government will make healthcare decisions based on political considerations over the needs of individuals.
Say NO to ObamaCare! Say NO to government managed health care!
ObamaCare is set to be heard by the Supreme Court of the United States March 26-28. If the Supreme Court does not throw this monstrosity out, then the battle for our healthcare continues on into November and January.
Now is the time to act! We need your help to send a strong, clear message to the big government types who are bent on trampling our personal choice and freedom. This is the first stop on the Road to Repeal! We need your help to win this fight and repeal government run health care!
Visit RoadtoRepeal.com to find or list a bus in your area and updates on the event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers.... a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Kitchen Table Patriots are joining with a confederation of other Pennsylvania Tea Party, libertarian, conservative, Constitutional, Patriot, and 9-12, organizations to have a consensus on a single candidate that reflects the passion, principles, values and commitment of the grassroots as well as has the acumen and gravitas to beat Senator Bob Casey in November. All the groups would then commit to supporting this one candidate in the primary. Doesn't this sound like an endorsement? Wasn't the KTP opposed to having the PA-GOP endorse a candidate? Are we now hypocrites if we were to express and support a preference of one candidate over another? It sounds like that, but we make these distinctions: - The endorsement by the PA-GOP was not from the ground up; it was imposed from the top down.
- All of the candidates tried to get the PA-GOP endorsement because of the weight it carries.
- That is why we are asking for your input and not speaking on your behalf to these other organizations.
We are asking you to tell us which of these candidates you support. By clicking on their name, an email will be generated to us with your preference. We will then compile the results and submit them to the confederation and when all the groups have spoken, we'll report on the coalition results. We are then asking everyone to support the candidate that wins the coalition support so that we can speak in a single, loud and passionate voice. To that end, we ask you to click on one of the names below which will initiate an email to us with your vote. Please - only one vote per person! - Dave Christian.
- Sam Rohrer.
- Marc Scaringi.
- Tom Smith.
- Steve Welch.

Dear Fellow Patriot,
We have a choice in this years Pennsylvania Senatorial election that will have far reaching consequences for Pennsylvania.
Roger Howard is challenging Dominic Pileggi in the 9th district. Dominic has never been challenged and with the lack of any reformative legislation coming from Harrisburg along with the redistricting fiasco, he is very vulnerable. Can you imagine replacing the third most powerful Republican in Harrisburg?
Right now what stands in our way is the ability to get the message out. We are ordering yard signs and if we had an extra $1000.00 we could double what we are ordering.
Can you make a small donation of $10, $25 or $50. It would make a big difference. Please go to the web site now

Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution
Available to you, your family, your friends, and all Americans.
Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!
 | Dr. Larry P. Arnn |
Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"
In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.
That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."
Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.
I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!
And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.
Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:
"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"
This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!
I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!
"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.
It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.
Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader. Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.
About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.
What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.
The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.
There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.
But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.
Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.
If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.
But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.
Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.
Thanks,
John Ryan

CAIR's Fight Against Pennsylvania Foreign Law Bill
by David J. Rusin FrontPage Magazine February 13, 2012
http://www.islamist-watch.org/9192/cair-fight-against-pennsylvania-foreign-law-bill
Resistance to a new bill aimed at limiting foreign law in Pennsylvania courts serves as a case study of how Islamists and their allies operate: peddling falsehoods about Shari'a, painting Muslims as victims, and denying that anyone seeks to institutionalize aspects of Islamic law - even as they vigorously promote that very agenda. With similar legislation being debated across the U.S., understanding their tactics is critical.
At issue in Pennsylvania is House Bill (HB) 2029, which stipulates that "a tribunal shall not consider a foreign legal code or system which does not grant ... the same fundamental liberties, rights and privileges" as guaranteed by the federal and state constitutions. Introduced in November, it follows the American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) model and makes no mention of Shari'a. A preliminary memo sent to legislators last June in the name of Rep. RoseMarie Swanger, HB 2029's chief sponsor, does highlight Islamic law, but she later said that it had been circulated accidentally. Regardless, concerns about Shari'a are warranted due to its many provisions that conflict with the standards of American jurisprudence. For example, it disadvantages women in terms of inheritance, divorce, child custody, and other areas of family law. Shari'a already has shaped numerous cases nationwide, including in Pennsylvania, where one state court decided how assets should be distributed according to Islam.
Pushback against HB 2029 has been led by the Philadelphia office of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-PA) and was punctuated by an interfaith press conference (video here) at CAIR-PA headquarters on December 14. The overall campaign reflects CAIR's usual recipe of distortion, victimology, and contradiction between words and deeds.
Attacks on bills like HB 2029 begin by sowing confusion about Shari'a. Because Islamic law encompasses virtually every facet of life - governing personal activities such as eating and worship, but also forming an oppressive social and legal structure - suit-and-tie Islamists work to emphasize its unthreatening pieces whenever possible. CAIR-PA executive director Moein Khawaja's suggestion that Shari'a should worry Pennsylvanians no more than halal gyros is a fine example of this technique.

March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue. As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Details can be found below.

Religious leaders and other public figures will speak out against the HHS Mandate at each Rally site. From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.
Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Planned Parenthood's 10 Most Feared Enemies in 2012
By Paul Cooper On March 19, 2012
While the abortion wars have raged for decades, new issues in recent years have heated up the debate again. And at the center of the controversy: Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).
Under heavy scrutiny both in the public eye and among some politicians, Marget Sanger's organization has long profited off the generous coffers of our federal treasury. But with more Americans adopting pro-life views and more citizens realizing our government has no money, more people question if Planned Parenthood deserves our hard-earned tax dollars.
In the last few months PPFA's named appeared in the news for many controversies ranging from Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Girl Scouts, contraception and religious freedom, federal funding, and individual state laws seeking to lower abortion numbers. Considering Planned Parenthood makes hundreds of millions of dollars a year as the top abortion provider in America, you can bet they have an enemies list in these battles. And below you will find their top ten most feared enemies for this big election year.
What you will see in the list below may surprise you. The media often portrays pro-lifers as old white men, but you will discover many women and young people on this list. Also, many of the top ten focus on getting more and more information to women.
Let's get to it:

RedState Morning Briefing
For March 23, 2012
1. Media Matters' Desperate Need to Glory Hound Rush Limbaugh
The Washington Times has the story of Media Matters' latest effort to drive Rush Limbaugh from the airwaves. They'll use radio ads in eight cities.
"In one of the anti-Limbaugh ads, listeners are urged to call the local station that carries Limbaugh to say "we don't talk to women like that" in our city.
"Ad time was purchased in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Seattle; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Macon, Ga.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The cities were selected to support active local campaigns against Limbaugh or because of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market, said Angelo Carusone of Media Matters."
What I found interesting was Media Matters listing Macon, GA. I'm writing this from Macon right now. It's where I got my start on the radio and where I live. There is no active local campaign to silence Rush Limbaugh.
That's when I realized what Media Matters is doing. They say they are advertising in some locations because "of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market."
Media Matters is trying to be a glory hound and take credit if Rush Limbaugh is dropped when they have nothing to do with it.
Three stations in the list, Macon, Detroit, and Chicago, are Cumulus Media stations. Cumulus Media has plans to launch Mike Huckabee as a competitor to Rush Limbaugh later this year. In fact, Cumulus's management has, though to a lesser degree than Media Matters, been playing up Rush Limbaugh's comments on Sandra Fluke suggesting Mike Huckabee would be a more responsible alternative.
Already I'm being told Cumulus will offer Huckabee as a cheaper programming option than Limbaugh. Likewise, they plan to start putting Huckabee on a number of Cumulus stations around the country as their contract with the Premier Radio for Rush's show expires. Even Rush's flagship station, WABC, might go to Huckabee as it is owned by Cumulus.
When it happens, Media Matters will try to take credit when, in fact, these are business decisions by Cumulus Media, which is struggling financially following its purchase of Citadel Broadcasting and wants some in house talent it can syndicate instead of having to pay Premier syndication fees.
What's most important though is why Media Matters is trying to keep the focus on Rush Limbaugh.
2. People Are Badly Misinterpreting Rick Santorum Much hay is being made of Rick Santorum saying he'd prefer Obama to Romney. Except that is not what he said or what he meant. Certainly he could have had a clarifying clause in his statement, but given the context, I think he was saying no more and no less than what I have been saying. I'm on record thinking it is over and Romney is the nominee, but the hand-wringing over Santorum is juvenile and reminds me again why I so dislike Team Romney. We're going to have put up with months of Team Romney whining about things if he is the nominee. This is the latest example. 3. Obama's Secret Debt Milestone Here is a debt milestone that we surpassed this week, yet you won't read about it anywhere in the media. The gross federal debt has increased more under Obama in just 3.2 years than it did during Bush's entire 8-year tenure. And Bush was no limited government conservative either. When President Bush was sworn in on January 20, 2001, the total federal debt stood at $5.728 trillion. On January 20, 2009, the day he left office, the debt had increased to $10.629 trillion, a jump of $4.9 trillion. Just 38 months later, the debt has increased another $4.954 trillion to a grand total of $15.583 trillion! Amazingly, $4.514 trillion, or 91% of the debt increase comes from the public share of the debt, which now stands at $10.8 trillion. We should also keep in mind that we are on pace to breach the $16.394 trillion debt limit before the November elections, even with the uptick in revenue. That means that he will have amassed almost $6 trillion in debt by the time he, God willing, leaves office next January. And it's not just the $6 billion. He has set us on such an unsustainable trajectory that we will never achieve a balanced budget without massive restructuring of government. If Obama's proposed budget blueprint was allowed to come to fruition, the federal debt would reach $26 trillion in 10 years assuming rosy revenue predictions. 4. Washington Post's Lisa Miller Is An Idiot. Part 2. Earlier this month I posted on the attack by Lisa Miller, the Washington Post's egregiously stupid religion correspondent, on Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney because they had large families. Miller found large families to be vaguely threatening to her self esteem and indicative of a "smug fecundity" and not valuing women for anything other than their ability to reproduce. Today Miller doubles down and accuses Rick Santorum of being a "cafeteria Catholic." For those who aren't familiar with the term, a cafeteria Catholic applies to Catholics who dissent from Church dogmas. These are the "smells and bells" Catholics who have some cultural attachment to the Church but find that its teachings on sodomy, birth control, etc. gives them hives and boils on their butt. For her evidence, Miller trots out the following killer evidence. 5. The Club for Growth on the Ryan budget Yesterday, the Club for Growth released a statement saying that the Ryan budget was "on balance, a disappointment to fiscal conservatives." We applauded the strong pro-growth reforms in the bill, but the reasons for our opposition were twofold: First, the budget doesn't balance within 10 years, or for that matter, even 20 years. Our country is currently enduring unsustainable trillion-dollar deficits. We cannot wait until 2040 - the year the Ryan budget balances (page 84) - in order to arrest our ever-growing national debt. Second, we are opposed to how the budget dismantles the annual sequestration spending cuts enacted into law by last year's Budget Control Act (also known as the debt-limit deal). As you may recall, the debt deal established annual discretionary spending caps for the next ten years. But the debt deal also required additional cuts (both discretionary and mandatory) because the supercommittee failed. Therefore, for the upcoming year, the real number that needs to be achieved, beyond the spending cap, is $110 billion in cuts in total spending authority. But Ryan's budget achieves less than that: $19 billion in discretionary cuts and $53 billion in cuts to mandatory authority, of which only $18 billion would be included in budget reconciliation, a fast-track process requiring committees to actually pass implementing legislation. 6. Same Talking Points For ALL The Countries Danish broadcaster Thomas Buch-Anderson from Detektor has analyzed some of what President Obama has to say about other nations.

Describe how, contrary to cozy liberal myth, the great FDR managed to prolong the Great Depression by seven years. Research by UCLA economists Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Obama Mocks Critics As Gas Prices Go Up
As you drive America's ribbon of highway, from California to the New York island, there's one reality that can't be escaped -- gas prices keep going up, with no end in sight. But instead of taking action to bring relief to the American people, the Obama Administration is patting itself on the back for a job well done while mocking those who are calling for a commonsense energy policy.
This week saw the highest average gas price ever recorded in March -- a whopping $3.87 per gallon. That's up 4 cents from over a week ago, and 30 cents more than last year. On the West Coast, it's up to $4.23 a gallon, but no matter where you go in America, you'll feel the burn.

On Tuesday, House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) released his budget for the federal government in 2013. Dubbed the Path to Prosperity, the plan trims spending, reforms taxes and looks to market-based reforms to health care entitlement programs-all key elements of The Heritage Foundation's Saving the American Dream budget plan.
The Ryan budget is a tremendous improvement over liberal plans, including President Obama's 2013 proposal, say Alison Fraser, who directs Heritage's Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, and Patrick Louis Knudsen, a senior Heritage budget expert. The Senate has not released a budget proposal in several years.
ģ Ryan will be speaking about his plan at The Heritage Foundation on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. Watch live online.
A successful federal budget, Fraser and Knudsen argue, should:
- Cut spending sharply and quickly
- Begin decisive entitlement reform
- Avoid tax hikes
- Ensure a strong national defense
- Include pro-growth tax reforms
- Move swiftly towards a balanced budget
According to Fraser and Knudsen, "Ryan's budget is not perfect. Few consensus political documents can be."
Nonetheless, the plan includes several strong elements and provides a stark contrast with the liberal alternatives. Continue reading why on myHeritage. Tell us in the comments what you think about Ryan's plan.
Last Tuesday, the Senate defeated a misguided measure that would have granted massive new subsidies for natural gas-powered vehicles.
This victory resulted in part from work by The Heritage Foundation and our sister organization, Heritage Action for America, to explain the flaws with the New Alternatives to Give Americans Solutions (NATGAS) Act.
Heritage energy expert Nicolas Loris explains the bill's shortcomings:
|
By providing preferential tax treatment to subsidize the production, use, and purchase of [natural gas vehicles] as well as supporting infrastructure, the government picks NGVs as a winner at the expense of all the other applications for natural gas. The stated goal of the bill is to promote transportation-fuel competition and reduce foreign oil dependence and greenhouse gas emissions. It does neither.
|
| |
"These subsidies create a dependence on government and do not allow producers to recognize the full costs of entering the market," Loris writes with Heritage's David Kreutzer in a post on the Foundry. "They centralize power in Washington and allow lobbyists and politicians to decide what companies will produce. They concentrate benefits to the industry and disperse the costs to the rest of us." Continue reading how the efforts of our sister organization, Heritage Action, stopped this bill dead in it's tracks.

Pamela Geller at the ZOA event
 | An Evening with Pamela Geller at ZOA-Philadelphia |
Here is a video of my remarks to ZOA (Zionist Organization of America), Philadelphia on Monday, March 19th. This is important to watch, because the focus of my speech is the root cause of the war on Israel and the Jews, Islamic Jew-hatred. Bear in mind, I gave these remarks before I knew that the mass murderer of Jewish children at a Jewish day school was an avowed Muslim soldier killing Jews in the cause of Islam.
Much thanks to Pamela Hall for filming and uploading the video.

French jihad enters stage two. Jewish children slaughtered, rabbi killed in cold blood, and what's the response from the Muslim community? Expunge the quran of its genocidal texts that command Jewish blood? No. Instead, infidels are warned, admonished, and the ummah is fraught with worry over -- get this -- "anti-Muslim backlash." I am having 911 deja vu all over again.
Muslims in France worry about anti-Muslim backlash after jihad massacre at Jewish school Jihad Watch
We see it again and again: every time there is a jihad attack or a foiled jihad plot, the mainstream media focuses attention on the poor victimized...Muslims, churning out story after story about a backlash that never actually materializes, and thereby attempting to shift focus away from jihad mass murder and onto the Muslims as victims, needing special protection and deserving to be exempt from especial scrutiny.
Does anyone fall for this nonsense anymore? Oh, yes, they certainly do.
"French Muslims fear post-Toulouse repercussions," from EuroNews, March 21 (thanks to Answering Muslims):
France's five-million strong Islamic community fears it may be subject to repercussions after it emerged the main suspect in the killing of seven people - including three young children - was Muslim.
In Toulouse itself, the message was one of tolerance.

March 22, 2012 Video: Libyan Muslims Destroy Christian-Jewish WW II cemetery In the jihadist conquests that swept out of Arabia in the first few centuries after the death of Muhammad, Muslims killed and enslaved tens of millions of Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Buddhists and animists as they established an Islamic imperialistic empire that stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to India. This is historical fact. But according to many of the textbooks reviewed for our report "Education or Indoctrination? The Treatment of Islam in 6th through 12th Grade American Textbooks," Islamic jihadists treated those they conquered with "tolerance," even supposedly allowing "full religious freedom" for Christians and Jews. You can view or download the report here. If you have children or grandchildren in the public schools you DEFINITELY should review this report, as it is highly likely one or more of the textbooks we reviewed are used in the schools your children and grandchildren attend. The rewrite of history common in the textbooks reviewed ignores the extensive chronicling of these jihads, many written by Muslims. One Muslim historian estimated that some 30,000 Christian churches were destroyed during jihadist conquests of the Middle East. A new wave of Islamic persecution of Christians and Jews is on the march in the Muslim world today. An estimated 500,000 Christians have fled Iraq since we toppled Saddam Hussein. Coptic churches are being torched in Egypt. Bethlehem, whose population once was over 85% Christian, is now estimated to be less than 10% Christian. And the jihadist genocide in Sudan has claimed an estimated 1.5 million lives.
Nothing appears to be sacred in the face of this onslaught. View this short video of a group of Muslims in Libya destroying a cemetery where Christian and Jewish victims of World War II are buried. As the Muslims kick over headstones you will hear some chanting "Allahu Akbar."

The Global March to Jerusalem
The Global March to Jerusalem, scheduled for March 30, 2012, is an anti-Israel publicity stunt that aims to have a million people marching on Israel's borders from surrounding countries - Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt - with the goal of reaching Jerusalem and highlighting the so-called "Judaization of Jerusalem."

Jerusalem's Jewish Link: Historic, Religious, Political
March 22, 2012 | Eli E. Hertz
Jerusalem, wrote historian Martin Gilbert, is not a 'mere' city. "It holds the central spiritual and physical place in the history of the Jews as a people."
For more than 3,000 years, the Jewish people have looked to Jerusalem as their spiritual, political, and historical capital, even when they did not physically rule over the city. Throughout its long history, Jerusalem has served, and still serves, as the political capital of only one nation - the one belonging to the Jews. Its prominence in Jewish history began in 1004 BCE, when King David declared the city the capital of the first Jewish kingdom. David's successor and son, King Solomon, built the First Temple there, according to the Bible, as a holy place to worship the Almighty. Unfortunately, history would not be kind to the Jewish people. Four hundred and ten years after King Solomon completed construction of Jerusalem, the Babylonians (early ancestors to today's Iraqis) seized and destroyed the city, forcing the Jews into exile.
Fifty years later, the Jews, or Israelites as they were called, were permitted to return after Persia (present-day Iran) conquered Babylon. The Jews' first order of business was to reclaim Jerusalem as their capital and rebuild the Holy Temple, recorded in history as the Second Temple.
Jerusalem was more than the Jewish kingdom's political capital - it was a spiritual beacon. During the First and Second Temple periods, Jews throughout the kingdom would travel to Jerusalem three times yearly for the pilgrimages of the Jewish holy days of Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot, until the Roman Empire destroyed the Second Temple in 70 CE and ended Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem for the next 2,000 years. Despite that fate, Jews never relinquished their bond to Jerusalem or, for that matter, to Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel.
No matter where Jews lived throughout the world for those two millennia, their thoughts and prayers were directed toward Jerusalem. Even today, whether in Israel, the United States or anywhere else, Jewish ritual practice, holiday celebration and lifecycle events include recognition of Jerusalem as a core element of the Jewish experience. Consider that:
* Jews in prayer always turn toward Jerusalem.
* Arks (the sacred chests) that hold Torah scrolls in synagogues throughout the world face Jerusalem.
* Jews end Passover Seders each year with the words: "Next year in Jerusalem"; the same words are pronounced at the end of Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish year.
* A three-week moratorium on weddings in the summer recalls the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem by the Babylonian army in 586 BCE. That period culminates in a special day of mourning - Tisha B'Av (the 9th day of the Hebrew month Av) - commemorating the destruction of both the First and Second Temples.
* Jewish wedding ceremonies - joyous occasions, are marked by sorrow over the loss of Jerusalem. The groom recites a biblical verse from the Babylonian Exile: "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning,"and breaks a glass in commemoration of the destruction of the Temples.
Even body language, often said to tell volumes about a person, reflects the importance of Jerusalem to Jews as a people and, arguably, the lower priority the city holds for Muslims:
* When Jews pray they face Jerusalem; in Jerusalem Israelis pray facing the Temple Mount.
* When Muslims pray, they face Mecca; in Jerusalem Muslims pray with their backs to the city.
* Even at burial, a Muslim face, is turned toward Mecca.
Finally, consider the number of times 'Jerusalem' is mentioned in the two religions' holy books:
* The Old Testament mentions 'Jerusalem' 349 times. Zion, another name for 'Jerusalem,' is mentioned 108 times.
* The Quran never mentions Jerusalem - not even once.
Even when others controlled Jerusalem, Jews maintained a physical presence in the city, despite being persecuted and impoverished. Before the advent of modern Zionism in the 1880s, Jews were moved by a form of religious Zionism to live in the Holy Land, settling particularly in four holy cities: Safed, Tiberias, Hebron, and most importantly - Jerusalem. Consequently, Jews constituted a majority of the city's population for generations. In 1898, "In this City of the Jews, where the Jewish population outnumbers all others three to one ..." Jews constituted 75 percent of the Old City population in what Secretary-General Kofi Annan called 'East Jerusalem.' In 1914, when the Ottoman Turks ruled the city, 45,000 Jews made up a majority of the 65,000 residents. And at the time of Israeli statehood in 1948, 100,000 Jews lived in the city, compared to only 65,000 Arabs.Prior to unification, Jordanian-controlled 'East Jerusalem' was a mere 6 square kilometers, compared to 38 square kilometers on the 'Jewish side.'

There was a time when Jewish children were hunted down and killed in France. Their killers believed themselves to be members of a superior group that was destined to rule the world and enslave or exterminate members of inferior groups. The cowardice and appeasement of the French authorities allowed them to operate freely, to kill Jews and launch attacks on other countries. What was then is now again. The occupying army doesn't wear uniforms, it wears keffiyahs. It doesn't speak German, it speaks Arabic. It doesn't believe that it is superior for reasons of race as much as for reasons of religion. It does not view all others as Untermenschen, but as infidels. It looks forward not to a thousand year Reich, but to a thousand year Caliphate. Mohammed Merah did not chase down a French-Jewish seven year old girl, put a gun to her head and pull the trigger because he came from an economically depressed area or any of the other media spin. He was only doing what Muslims had been doing to non-Muslims for over a thousand years. He didn't do what he did because he was "radicalized", he did it because he became a fully committed Muslim. It won't end with taking down one man and it won't end with Jewish children. When your ideology believes that it is in a zero-sum struggle with the rest of the world and that membership means that you are a superior breed of human being because you worship the Fuhrer or Allah, then it won't stop. It won't ever stop. Not until the figurehead is toppled, the creed is humiliated and the supermen are shown to be cowards, neurotics, pedophiles, insecure men dressing up their weaknesses in power fantasies.

Protect Your Vote! ACRU Launches Campaign to Prevent Vote Fraud
"ProtectYourVote.us is a powerful new tool for citizens to use to ensure that fair and honest elections are held this November. All Americans have a stake in protecting our election process. Without confidence in the system, we cannot continue to be a free, self-governing nation." - Edwin Meese III, former U.S. Attorney General March 22 - Smack in the middle of a furious national debate over state-passed laws that strengthen voter registration and voter ID requirements, the American Civil Rights Union is unveiling today its advocacy of specific measures to prevent vote fraud in the November elections by:
- Requiring a photo ID to vote in person;
- Requiring proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote;
- Requiring signature verification and an acceptable proof of ID when voting by mail.
The American Civil Rights Union (ACRU) will hold a press conference at the Hall of States, 444 North Capitol Street, Suite 283, promptly at 10 a.m. to announce the launch of a new campaign - ProtectYourVote.us. Attendees should arrive early with picture identification to get through security.

Voter ID Laws Protect the Integrity of the Ballot Box
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published March 21, 2012 on The Huffington Post website. Protecting the integrity of the ballot box is essential to our democracy. Laws requiring voters to show identification at the polls are commonsense measures to prevent fraud and corruption, and ensure that each year's election returns accurately reflect the will of the people. Yet President Obama's administration and political allies are pursuing a dual-track approach to vilify such tools, in a crass political ploy to aid the president's reelection. In 2008, the Supreme Court held in Crawford v. Marion County Election Board that Indiana's voter ID law is constitutional. The Court noted that the challengers could not produce a single voter disenfranchised by that law. Now 32 states have voter ID laws to protect their electoral process.

Betrayal by Any Other Name
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published March 19, 2012 in The Washington Times. What would you call it if some Americans went overseas to the United Nations Human Rights Council and gave aid and comfort to some of the most repressive regimes on the planet? What if they falsely accused America of suppressing the vote of racial minorities because some states require voter photo ID and other measures to deter fraud? I'd call it "treason," but you also could say it's just liberal politics as usual. The core argument is that minorities are incapable of getting an ID and playing by the same rules that all adult citizens must follow regardless of race. It's the same poisonous brew of lowered expectations that liberals have been pushing on minorities in order to expand government and foster dependency.

Lie To Me Once Shame On You, Lie To Me 21 Times...

So, the man that lied when he promised not to accept public funding of his campaign; (1)
the man that lied when he said no abortions would be covered by his health care scheme; (2)
the man that lies every time he speaks about the amount of oil at this countries disposal; (3)
the man that lies when he says a President can't do anything to reduce the price of gas, and then plans an October Surprise release of our emergency oil to temporarily do just that; (4)
the man who proves his own lies when a temporary release of oil has a diminutive, symbolic reduction in the price, but he insists a daily flow of our own oil form our numerous sites, (which he now has off-limits), would have no effect on oil prices, (no link, just common sense economics);

Johann Sebastian Bach was born MARCH 21, 1685. By age 10 his parents had died. At 18, Bach was a church organist, followed by positions in royal courts. Once Bach was imprisoned because a duke did not want him employed elsewhere. Widowed with 7 children, he remarried and had 13 more. Considered the "master of masters," Johann Sebastian Bach's works include Passion According to St. Matthew, and Jesus, Meine Freude (Jesus, My Joy!). Johann Sebastian Bach stated: "The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If heed is not paid to this, it is not true music but a diabolical bawling and twanging." On February 22, 1990, President George H.W. Bush stated: "The Bible has had a critical impact upon the development of Western civilization. Western literature, art, and ... Continue Reading:American Minute March 21

Left wants classes promoting racism and revolution back in Arizona schools
Mar 21, 2012 01:00 pm | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
On January 1, 2011 a law banning certain "ethnic studies" classes went into effect in Arizona. The law makes it illegal for a school district to teach courses which "promote the overthrow of the US government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or advocate 'ethnic solidarity' instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals." (1)
But it was not the ever-compassionate, ethnicity-conscious left which wrote and implemented legislation making it a crime to teach violence and racism. Rather, the law was passed by the Republican controlled Arizona legislature and signed by the State's Republican governor.
And the left is fit to be tied over it!
According to one liberal professor, the Arizona legislature has committed "ethnocide," or more properly "ethnonormativity" by implementing a law which hopes to preserve some semblance of sanity in Arizona schools. ... | Defanging the Lacey Act: The Freedom from Over-Criminalization and Unjust Seizures Act of 2012
Under the Lacey Act, it is a federal offense to import fish, wildlife, or plants "in violation of any foreign law." Such legislation violates one of the fundamental tenets of Anglo-American common law: that "men of common intelligence" must be able to understand what a law means. The recent explosion of federal criminal law has rendered this standard a mere fiction, a problem exacerbated by the fact that the Lacey Act makes it a crime to violate a foreign nation's law. Then the common law fiction becomes a contemporary fantasy that can lead to miscarriages of justice. Two bills recently introduced in Congress-each one called the FOCUS Act-promise to defang the Lacey Act and secure a victory for Americans opposed to overcriminalization.

"Ignorance of the law is no excuse" has been a maxim of criminal law since time immemorial. The result is an ever-expanding discretion for prosecutors - who now can pick a target for an investigation and then scour the statutes for a suitable crime with which to charge him. As Lavrenti Beria, Stalin's head of the dreaded secret police said proudly, "Show me the man and I'll find you the crime." Now multiply that by 200 times - that being roughly the number of countries there are in the world - and you have some idea of the jeopardy that arises by operation of the Lacey Act.

Obamacare: It's a big, disastrous deal
Democrats' dissembling over costs is coming to light
By Dr. Milton R. Wolf
The Washington Times
Wednesday, March 21, 2012
Joe Biden may not always have complete command of the facts. Franklin D. Roosevelt did not hold his fireside chats on television. The word 'jobs' does not have three letters. And you do not need a slight Indian accent to shop at 7-Eleven or Dunkin' Donuts. But give the vice president credit - his description of Obamacare is spot-on: "This is a big [expletive] deal."
Yes, it is, Joe.
In a 2010 column titled "Obamacare's unkeepable promises," I compiled the top Obamacare lies that the president and other Democrats deployed. As I've said before, we did not get here because of simple distortions or exaggerations or even misrepresentations. Obamacare is the product of statements known by their makers to be untrue and meant to deceive - lies. Two years after the president signed his health care takeover into law, the enormity of those lies continues to grow.

How Drama Queens Sabotage the Tea Party
By Walter Hudson On March 16, 2012
Drama queens come in all shapes, sizes, and genders. We have all known our share. Some folks revel in crisis. In a sick way, they need it. The only sense of purpose in their lives arises from perceived persecution and perpetual emergency. Such people actually avoid solutions and resent those who provide them because a solution removes any excuse for mania.
In politics, we may call such people anti-activists, as their efforts tend to work counter to that of activists with whom they should align. Unfortunately, they are legion among libertarians, conservatives, and Tea Party groups. Collectively, they present a greater threat to the restoration of our republic than any active Marxist.
The muffled rise of the Tea Party in Minnesota provides a good example. While the movement thrived early on in many states throughout the union, activists struggled to find an active Tea Party group in Minnesota during 2009. It wasn't for lack of interest. There have since developed many groups throughout the state attended by committed activists who are serious about educating the public and affecting policy. The problem early on: the emergence of an anti-activist leadership.

HUSH RUSH PART OF LEFT'S PLOT TO DUPLICATE CONFORMITY OF COLLEGE CAMPUSES NATIONWIDE GrassTopsUSA Exclusive Commentary By Don Feder 03/19/2012 As you reflect on the Lynch Limbaugh Campaign, now in its third week, remember: 40 years ago, Rush gave aid and comfort to the enemy, during a conflict that claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans. Two decades later, his inflammatory rhetoric fueled a race riot that led to the murder of a rabbinical student and brought two days of terror on a religious community. No, wait a minute, that wasn't America's most popular talk-show host but two of his more vociferous critics. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. The latest Hush Rush crusade is far more insidious than it seems. It's one engagement in a war aimed at silencing the right. In the cross hairs are conservative talkers, commentators, politicians, celebrities and anyone else who dares to challenge leftist orthodoxy. The left wants to drag us back to the good old days (pre-talk radio, pre-Fox, pre-Internet) when three networks ruled the airwaves, and most people got homogenous views packaged as news from Uncle Walter and their daily newspaper. The old media is salivating at the thought of taking down the new media. "After Apology, National Advertisers Are Still Shunning Limbaugh," read a headline in a March 13 New York Times story. "Rush Limbaugh: If ad boycott expands, can he survive (we certainly hope not)," chirped a story in The Christian Science Monitor. The soft left (mainstream media), rushed into the breach opened by the hard left. Septuagenarian feminists Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan did an opinion piece for the CNN website that shrilled, "FCC should clear Limbaugh from airwaves." How many feminists does it take to censor the opposition? That's not funny! After comparing Rush to Goebbels - apparently, both "dehumanize" their "targets" - the fem-bots flew into a rage over the law student (I-want-the-Catholic-Church-to-pay-for-my-contraceptives) Rush called bad names - for which he's apologized twice. Yes, poor third-year Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke, who can't find the money to pay for birth-control pills which, even if she goes the expensive, physician- prescribed route, cost less than $20 a week (dinner for two at McDonald's). Your heart has to go out to the liberal casuist who, as a graduate of one of the top-ten law schools in the nation, will earn a six-figure salary her first year in private practice. Rush called her a "slut" and a "prostitute." Our culture has degenerated to the point where no one blinks an eye when, in pursuit of a political goal, a young, unmarried, woman touts her fornication before a Congressional hearing. Instead, we're outraged when someone goes overboard in describing her sexual ethics - or lack thereof. A boycott isn't enough for Fonda and friends. "If Clear Channel (which syndicates Limbaugh) won't clean up its airwaves, then surely it's time for the public to ask the FCC a basic question: are the stations carrying Limbaugh's show in fact using their licenses "'in the public interest?'" The airwaves are "a scarce government resource" (for Marxists, everything is a "government resource") which those granted licenses must use "in the public interest" to serve the hallowed "community." With hundreds of cable stations and broadband radio, only collectivists could make this argument with a straight face. Let's see: Trees are a scarce resource. Newspapers and magazines are granted bulk mail permits. Is The New York Times, with its front-page editorials, acting in the public interest? - is Newsweek, which regularly wails on conservatives and Christians, serving the community? Is HBO, which airs Bill Maher's bad imitation of Triumph, the Insult Dog, acting in the public interest? How about MSNBC, which provides a cable forum for foulmouthed Ed Schultz and gives the Rev. Al Sharpton a place to hang his armband? A million-dollar donor to Obama's Super PAC, Maher has referred to Sarah Palin as a "cu-t" and a "tw-t." Shultz once called conservative commentator Laura Ingraham a "right-wing slut." While insisting that their objection to Limbaugh isn't "political" (perish the thought!), the respect-women-or-else squad gives a pass to liberal misogyny. If giving a talk show to the Reverend Al doesn't prove the hypocrisy of the liberal media, it's hard to imagine what would - Dialogue on Community Relations with Louis Farrakhan and David Duke? In 2010, Sharpton, in his inimitable fashion, told us that when a radio station's broadcast license is up for renewal, stations whose programming "offends groups of Americans based on their race, their gender, their sexual status" should lose their license - unless those offended happen to be Christians, Jews, Caucasians, conservatives, males or heterosexuals, who are oppressors, after all. Jane Fonda condemning speech that's merely insulting, is like Typhoid Mary complaining about table manners. On a 1972 trip to Hanoi, Fonda called U.S. pilots "war criminals," urged GIs to desert, posed with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft battery, made propaganda broadcasts for the communists and called POWs who described torture at the hands of their captors "liars, hypocrites and pawns." In a post-war interview with The Wall Street Journal, North Vietnamese Col. Bui Tin explained, "Visits to Hanoi by people like Jane Fonda... gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses." Can you say has-enough-blood-on-her-hands to put Lady Macbeth to shame? At about the time of her treasonous excursion, Fonda was telling college kids, "If you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would some day become communists" - which explains a lot, including Jane's regard for First Amendment freedom. The GOP "have really made Rush Limbaugh such a great part of the conservative movement," Sharpton bloviates. "You can't have him as a major spokesman in your movement and then he says something as offensive and misogynist as this (the Fluke comments) and you act like he's just an entertainer." What of the Rev. Al? MSNBC has given a cable forum to a man who once said, "White folks was in caves while we was building empires" and "We taught philosophy and astrology (sic.) and mathematics before Socrates and the Greek homos got around to it," among other Afro-centrist, "ice-people" delusions. At least some of us Caucasian cave-dwellers know the difference between astrology and astronomy, as well as when to use "was" and "were" in a sentence. In 1987, Sharpton was pushing the Tawana Brawley fraud - that a black teen was abducted and raped by a gang of white men. An assistant prosecutor in Duchess County, New York won a $345,000 judgment against Al for defamation in the affair. Any libel judgments against Rush? In 1991, Sharpton set a match to a powder keg in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. At a funeral for a 7-year-old black child killed in an auto accident, he inveighed against "diamond merchants" (his code-words for Hassidic Jews) who were somehow responsible for South African apartheid as well as the child's death. The upshot was two days of rioting and the murder of rabbinical student Yankel Rosenbaum, knifed to death by a mob shouting "Kill the Jew!' Four years later, Sharpton reprised his Kristallnacht performance at Freddy's Fashion Mart, a Jewish-owned store in Harlem. In the ensuing mayhem, a crazed protestor set fire to the store, killing seven. This is the scum who has the chutzpah to lecture Republicans on responsibility and group sensitivity. The left is relentless. In 2007, Senator Dianne Feinstein said the party which claims a connection to Jefferson was looking into bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, which would make talk radio impossible. The same year, Sen. James Inhofe says he overheard a conversation between Sen. Barbara Boxer and then-Senator Hillary Clinton concerning talk radio. Inhofe reports: "They said we've got to do something about this. These are nothing but far right-wing extremists. We're got to have balance. There's got to be a legislative fix for this." "Balance" and "legislative fix" are lib-speak for, "Get the guillotine ready!" In 1995, Hillary's insignificant-other accused talk radio of setting the stage for the Oklahoma City bombing. In 2011, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman blamed the Tea Parties, Sarah Palin and "the rhetoric of Beck, Limbaugh, etc." for creating the atmosphere which led to the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords by the resident of a planet in the Nebula Galaxy. When actor Kirk Cameron told an interviewer that homosexuality is "ultimately destructive to the foundations of civilization," comedienne Roseanne Barr - who really should be doing a political show on MSNBC - called Cameron "an accomplice to murder with his hate speech." And GLADD (the happy people advocates and whatever) is monitoring Cameron's media bookings - to be sure he doesn't get any. GLADD's Accountability Project seeks to prevent the media from giving "a platform to the extreme rhetoric" (i.e., providing an alternate point of view) of three dozen individuals who represent almost the entire leadership of the pro-family movement. The left is right (no pun) to fear talk radio. Rush Limbaugh's show has a weekly audience of more than 15 million. Of the top 11 radio talk shows, ranked by Talkers Magazine, 7 are hosted by conservatives or libertarians. Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Beck, Levin, Boortz and Ingraham have a combined weekly audience of 67 million-plus. The New York Times has a daily circulation of less than a million. Over at MSNBC, Shultz has an average audience of 180,000, Rachel Maddow 260,000 - while FOX's "The O'Reilly Factor" draws 831,000 and Sean Hannity 478,000. It's not about "dehumanization," or "hate speech" or not serving the public interest (the public speaks every time the ratings come out) or any of the other lame-o excuses the left regularly trots out. It is a maniacal drive to gag opposing voices - to create an Orwellian society where bad ideas are punished. For a preview of the America the left wants to create, take the college campus, where liberalism reigns supreme. At most colleges and universities, at least on the humanities faculties, tenure is based on a willingness to spew leftist orthodoxy on cue. Liberal books are practically the only assigned reading. Liberals have a monopoly on commencement speakers. Increasingly, conservatives aren't even allowed to speak on campus. The student mob (egged on by professors, tolerated by administrators) has an effective veto on campus speakers. Supporters of Israel, opponents of affirmative action, critics of open-borders, marriage proponents and those dubious of the joys of Islam are regularly shouted-down, harassed and assaulted (physically as well as verbally) by collegiate storm troopers - a reality I experienced first-hand when I tried to speak at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst two year ago. Other than Alan Dershowitz, I have never heard anyone on the left object to these totalitarian tactics. That's because it's part of the liberal weltanschaunng - to see conservatives crushed by the bureaucracy, silenced through legal harassment, boycotted, shunned and shouted down. If Fonda, Steinem et al. have their way, soon we'll be allowed to sit quietly in our homes and think conservative thoughts - for the time being.

Great News: Obama's "Affordable" Green Light Bulb Costs Only $50
Posted by Jammie on Mar 09, 2012
Affordable if you're one of Obama's fat-cat one-percenters. The rest of us will be left to fend for ourselves in the dark.
The U.S. government last year announced a $10 million award, dubbed the "L Prize," for any manufacturer that could create a "green" but affordable light bulb. Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the prize would spur industry to offer the costly bulbs, known as LEDs, at prices "affordable for American families." There was also a "Buy America" component. Portions of the bulb would have to be made in the United States. Now the winning bulb is on the market. The price is $50.

Did Everyone Take Stupid Pills This Week?
Posted: 22 Mar 2012 02:53 PM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
There seems to be a concerted effort this week to prove that the Republican Party really is the Stupid Party. There were lots of people Tuesday night saying that they hoped that after the convincing win in the Illinois primary, Mitt Romney would avoid saying something stupid the next morning to blunt his momentum. So instead of doing it himself, like any good private sector executive that I hear he once was, he delegated the job to his communications director, who obliged with Etch-a-Sketch-Gate. Romney says he enjoys firing people who perform their jobs poorly. Well . . . how about showing us?
But not to be outdone, Rick Santorum demonstrated why he acquired the reputation as one of the U.S. Senate's least likeable members during his two terms by suggesting that if Romney is the nominee, we might just as well stick with Obama because Romney is virtually the same guy. Look, I get how the burning ambition for office makes you swing wildly at your opponent, but please don't insult our intelligence.
Finally, Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, a member of the Ways and Means Committee, says he will vote against the Ryan budget because it doesn't go far enough in cutting spending. This is frivolous political immaturity of the first order. NRO's Avik Roy points out that Republicans have a very narrow margin on the Ways and Means Committee, and if just two other Republicans defect (citing their purity), the Ryan budget will go down, with no prospect that a tougher budget plan could ever pass the House, let alone even a Republican Senate. Why do these purist Republicans want to make the Democrats' job easier?
This is the same kind of logic as the purist Abolitionists in the 1850s who thought Lincoln insufficiently robust in his anti-slavery positions, and wanted to expel the South rather than have "union with slaveholders." Gee-that would have served the interest of freeing the slaves real well.

Obama's Energy Strategy: Delay, Deny and Deceive
Posted: 22 Mar 2012 09:35 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Today Barack Obama continued his fraudulent energy tour in Cushing, Oklahoma. The purpose of his visit to petroleum-producing areas is to convince the American people that he is a pro-energy, pro-development president. Today Thomas Pyle, President of the Institute for Energy Research, released this statement in response to Obama's speech in Cushing:
President Obama wants to deceive the American people into believing that he's somehow responsible for the southern segment of the Keystone XL pipeline, much like he wants them to think he's responsible for increased oil and gas production in the United States. Neither claim is true, and the president knows it.
The administration has blocked full development of the Keystone XL pipeline, from delays last fall to the outright rejection of the pipeline permit earlier this year. The president wants to reject the pipeline, and yet take credit for approving it. Similarly, he's closed development of millions of acres of onshore and offshore federal lands for oil and gas production, while attempting to take credit for production increases on state and private lands where he has no role.
Just this week, the Congressional Research Service released a report showing that federal oil production represents 7.5 percent of the total oil produced from all U.S. lands in 2011, despite the fact that the federal government owns more than 30 percent of the lands with oil producing potential.
And the Energy Information Administration released data this month that shows oil production on federal lands is down 13 percent this year under the Obama administration. Natural gas production is at a 9 year low. These energy facts stand in stark contrast to the President's bogus claims.
Today, the Washington Post "downgraded" the president's record of truthfulness on America's vast oil resources. The administration continues to claim that the U.S. only has 2 percent of the world's oil resources. But according to his own administration's data, America has 200 years of domestic oil supply at current consumption levels. And that's not counting Canadian oil that the Keystone XL pipeline would bring to U.S. refineries.
Had the president authorized the Keystone XL permit in January - when he denied it - America would be well on our way to bringing more than 700,000 barrels of Canadian oil on line. That's more than twice the oil that was produced on federal onshore lands last year, and it could have created as many as 20,000 jobs in the process.
The glaring hypocrisy of the president's speech today is that he announced that his administration would fast-track approval of a pipeline project that the White House has no control over. And if the president has the ability to fast-track permits, why has he waited until today to use that executive authority? And why only for this project?
This administration's record speaks for itself. For more than three years, President Obama has implemented a three part energy strategy: delay, deny, and deceive.
Pyle refers to the fact that Glenn Kessler, who writes the "Fact Checker" column for the Washington Post, concluded today that Obama's constant "2%" claim is worse than he originally assessed it. Kessler now gives "2%" two Pinocchios-still generous, in my opinion. Kessler writes:
[T]he president has not dropped his language since we wrote our column; instead, he has repeated it at least four times.
In fact, in the speeches in Prince George's County and in New Mexico, he made it worse. As we explained before, "proven oil reserves" has a very strict definition, in part because reserves are considered actual assets owned by companies. The oil must have been discovered, confirmed and economically recoverable, with at least 90 percent certainty.
But in his Prince George's speech, Obama claimed that even if "we went to your house and we went to the National Mall and we put up those rigs everywhere, we'd still have only 2 percent of the world's known oil reserves." In New Mexico, Obama declared, "even if we drilled every square inch of this country, we'd still only have 2 or 3 or 4 percent of the world's known oil reserves."
That's just simply wrong.
How long do you think it will be before a White House reporter calls Obama on his constant misrepresentation of the facts relating to energy?

You Have The Right to a Good Lawyer
Posted: 22 Mar 2012 08:54 AM PDT
(Steven Hayward)
I'm running behind today on reading the newspaper and everything else, chiefly because I'm finishing a piece for the Weekly Standard that was due yesterday on gasoline issues. (I hope Bill Kristol isn't reading Power Line today, or he'll wonder why I'm not getting the piece nailed down. . .) But I just now noticed the front page story in the Post about yesterday's Supreme Court decision that says criminal defendants can now challenge their plea-bargained sentences on grounds that they got bad advice from their attorneys. In other words, the Supreme Court has just created a constitutional right to a good attorney. Get ready for endless appeals and for perverse incentive for the criminal defense bar.
I always predicted the Supreme Court would eventually rule that the right to an attorney at taxpayer expense would eventually become a right to a good attorney at taxpayer expense, but I was only joking. Justice Kennedy, the swing vote as usual, didn't get the joke. One reason death penalty appeals have become such long, drawn out affairs, costing millions, is that the courts created a competence-of-counsel ground for appeals. This makes some sense in capital cases, given the finality of the sentence, but it has meant a lot of litigation on this ground, and it has led some capital murder defense lawyers deliberately to make mistakes to provide grounds for appeal by their clients. (There's been some interesting research and reflection on this. See Judge Danny Boggs's lecture on this topic from a few years ago.) Now we're going to have the same kind of thing happening in a raft of plea bargain cases: "Hey-my lawyer didn't correctly explain to me that ten years meant ten years!" And the courts will stumble around for a while devising standards. And the defense bar will try to figure out clever ways to botch plea bargains. I'm sure it will be an episode of Law and Order by next week.

Hush Rush Campaign Gears Up
Posted: 22 Mar 2012 08:29 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Media Matters is taking its campaign to drive Rush Limbaugh out of business to a new level by investing $100,000 on radio ads in eight cities:
In one of the anti-Limbaugh ads, listeners are urged to call the local station that carries Limbaugh to say "we don't talk to women like that" in our city.
Ad time was purchased in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Seattle; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Macon, Ga.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The cities were selected to support active local campaigns against Limbaugh or because of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market, said Angelo Carusone of Media Matters.
"What we're really looking for is a way to demonstrate the persistence of the effort and the fact that it is on a wide scale," Carusone said.
Media Matters makes no bones about the fact that its purpose is not to critique the substance of anything Rush said, but to shut him up. A spokesman for Premiere Radio Networks commented:
"This is not about women," said Rachel Nelson, Premiere spokeswoman. "It's not about ethics and it's not about the nature of our public discourse. It's a direct attack on America's guaranteed First Amendment right to free speech. It's essentially a call for censorship masquerading as high-minded indignation."
An attentive reader of the Associated Press's account can tell that there is more going on here than spontaneous outrage over ill-advised language used by Rush (language that, in fact, was far more typical of liberal than conservative discourse). But, the AP being the AP, it couldn't resist slipping in a little commentary:
Limbaugh, on his radio show Wednesday, said he's being targeted in an attack that was long-planned - not mentioning it was his words that lit the fuse.
The organizer of the current Hush Rush campaign responded to criticism with a dose of pure BS:
Carusone said Limbaugh has a chilling effect of his own. "There are plenty of people who self-censor out of fear that Mr. Limbaugh will smear them," he said.
The AP acknowledges that it is hard to tell what impact, if any, the boycott effort has had so far. Media Matters's claims that advertisers are abandoning the Limbaugh show in droves are obviously false, but there may well have been some defections. It wouldn't hurt to call or email companies that advertise on Rush's show to express your support.
As for the larger question of the appropriateness of the Left's boycott campaign, putting aside its obvious hypocrisy, it must be acknowledged that this tool has been used by the right as well as by the left. I believe it was conservatives who, quite a few years ago, first contacted television advertisers to complain about offensive content on programs sponsored by them. The AP quotes Brent Bozell on the right's use of similar tactics:
The means of protest puts Media Matters and the conservative Media Research Center in the unlikely position of agreeing with each other. Brent Bozell, founder of the conservative media watchdog, said his group also informs advertisers of things it considers objectionable.
"We all have free speech," Bozell said.
It would seem that conservatives' most appropriate course at this point would be to step up pressure on companies that advertise on MSNBC and other left-wing outlets.

Mohammed Merah's standoff with the French police outside his apartment in Toulouse has ended with his death. The Telegraph's live coverage takes readers through the shootout with police. It has a "come an' get me, copper" feel to it.
Merah proclaimed his pride in killing a rabbi, three Jewish children and three French paratroopers in three separate motorcycle shooting attacks. The AP story peddles the "lone wolf" theme that is de rigueur in these matters. Mark Steyn explains the "time-honored tradition" that governs the story in "Lather, rinse, and repeat."
JOHN wonders: How many trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan does a lone wolf have to make before he becomes part of a pack?

March 22, 2012 New Health Care Law Fails to Empower People
This year marks the 35th anniversary of a small but extremely influential book: To Empower People by Peter Berger and Richard John Neuhaus. If you've ever heard the term "mediating institutions," this is the book that made it (more) popular.
In their 45-page treatise, Berger and Neuhaus argue that a healthy nation relies on local institutions-like faith-based ministries and voluntary associations-to mediate between individual citizens and big government. When public policies are hostile to such institutions, the very nature of democracy is threatened.
Sadly, the reminder To Empower People issued in the mid-1970s is being recklessly ignored today by Obamacare and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) anti-conscience mandate.
Berger and Neuhaus explain that civil society institutions play a key role in caring for citizens in need. These "people-sized institutions" understand social problems in up close and personal ways. Driven by deep convictions and compassion, such organizations can provide loving forms of assistance and care that government programs simply cannot offer, and they often do so for less money.
To Empower People also makes a case for why healthy civil society institutions are essential for democracy: they generate and maintain the operative values of American life. In a free society, mediating structures stand between citizens and the large bureaucratic structures of the state, transferring meaning and value to the less personal realm of government. Without these mediating structures, "values become another function of the megastructures, notably of the state, and this is a hallmark of totalitarianism."
In light of this, the authors (whose 2008 talk at Heritage can be seen here) issue two programmatic recommendations: First, public policy should at least "cease and desist from damaging mediating structures." Second, public policy should protect and, where possible without co-opting them, empower mediating institutions in their efforts to promote the common good.
The HHS anti-conscience mandate fails both of these propositions. By forcing groups to offer health plans that cover abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, and sterilization, the mandate damages many mediating structures by stripping them of their ability to live according to their convictions. It gives unprecedented power to the federal government to dictate how social institutions must behave. It basically attempts to remake civil society in the government's own image, leaving no room for institutions guided by moral convictions that differ from those of the President.
And if civil society organizations decide that they must stop offering health coverage to uphold their moral convictions, Obamacare slaps them with a heavy fine. There is no way out.
A very narrow religious exemption from the mandate protects only houses of worship but not organizations that serve people of other faiths. In 1977, Berger and Neuhaus put their finger on the ideology behind this: When liberals defend the religious freedom of individuals but not institutions, "the liberty to be defended is always that of privatized religion... liberals are typically hostile to the claim that institutional religion might have public rights and public functions."
In short, Obamacare reveals a social philosophy at odds with the one articulated in To Empower People. The Obama Administration assumes that the state should take responsibility for people's health care decisions, even at the expense of vital mediating institutions. By shifting moral decision making from civil society to unaccountable government bureaucracies, Obamacare strikes at the very underpinnings of self-government.
To protect mediating institutions, safeguard religious liberty, and restore power to people, Obamacare needs to go.

Obamacare's Second Birthday: No Gift for Americans
Tomorrow Obamacare will have its second birthday, but there's little reason to celebrate. Throughout the week, Obamacare advocates have been emphasizing the law's supposed benefits for specific groups, but, as Heritage's research over the past two years has shown, Obamacare harms Americans-even the groups showcased by the left.
- No gift for Seniors. Obamacare supporters claim that the health law protects and strengthens Medicare, but this couldn't be further from reality. Instead, the law actually uses savings in Medicare to fund other new government spending while threatening seniors' access to care and ending Medicare as we know it.
- No gift for Women. Advocates have touted better benefits and free preventive care, but Heritage research shows that the health law's new requirements will reduce patient choice, increase costs, and violate religious liberty-for women and everyone else, too.
- No gift for Young Americans. Advocates have highlighted the provision that allows young adults to stay on their parents' health plans until age 26. But Heritage research shows that despite this provision, the overall effect of the law will be that younger Americans will face higher premiums and incentives to remain uninsured, meanwhile serving as the generation that will ultimately foot the bill for the law's new deficit spending.
To learn about reform that would give patients more choice and in turn bring down costs, read Heritage's Saving the American Dream plan.

Alexander's Essay - March 22, 2012 Who Will Elect the Next President? The GOP's Weakest Link"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual -- or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country." --Samuel Adams (1781) "During Women's History Month," Obama proclaimed, "we ... reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the rights, security and dignity of women. ... We see the arc of the American story in the dynamic women who shaped our present and the groundbreaking girls who will steer our future. ... With the leadership of the White House Council on Women and Girls, my administration is ... making deep and lasting investments in the future of all Americans. I call upon all Americans to observe this month ... with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that honor the history, accomplishments, and contributions of American women." Indeed, Obama should celebrate women and affirm his commitment to them -- because, by a wide margin, they elected him in 2008. More than 56 percent of women voted for Obama versus only 49 percent of men, a seven-point differential, and women may well be the deciding demographic again in 2012 if we conservatives don't get our message right. Democrats are masters of the "politics of disparity," using classist, racist and gender issues to create division between Americans and thus conquer conservatives. Nowhere has that division been more successful than in racial demographics -- almost 95 percent of black Americans blindly vote to uphold the Democrats' plantation state. (The remaining five percent are probably the most courageous group of voters in America!) But by sheer numbers, women are the largest voting block and thus hold the greatest power to decide elections. Amid all the questions about which GOP campaign themes will defeat Obama this year, one that conservatives had better start asking is, "What message will draw female voters back to the right side of the political ledger?" That question is critical both because in every presidential election since 1964 more women have voted than men, and because only 43 percent of them voted for McCain. With men voting in 2008 with almost even numbers for McCain and Obama, the women's vote gave Obama -- the most leftist and least qualified major-party candidate in presidential history -- an easy electoral win. By "get our message right," I am not talking about topical pandering to women's special interests, but about enlisting more women into the front lines of the eternal fight for Essential Liberty. While conservatives don't underestimate the critical role of women to the future of Liberty, we do a very poor job of recruiting. Women might not have signed our Declaration of Independence or Constitution, but today they are the deciding force -- the force that will vote to either sustain Liberty for future generations, or vote to overwhelm it with Democratic Socialism. Post Your Opinion: Will the Reagan campaign model still work? Here are some additional statistics from Rutgers's Center for American Women and Politics, verified through other sources, that deserve GOP attention. In 2004, the majority of women voted for John Kerry, though the number of men voting for George W. Bush was sufficient to defeat Kerry. In 2000, a wide majority of women voted for Albert Gore, who carried the popular vote. If not for a razor-thin margin of victory in Florida -- one in which the Supreme Court stepped in to prevent Democrat party hacks from stealing the election via continual recounts -- Bush would never have had a first term awarded by the Electoral College. (I would note that had Al Gore merely won his, and my, home state of Tennessee, the Florida count would have been irrelevant -- but we in the Volunteer State knew Gore well enough to defeat him!) In 1996, after Bill Clinton's record of womanizing was in full bloom thanks to Gennifer Flowers and the whole list of what Clinton's political adviser Betsey Wright coined "bimbo eruptions," 54 percent of women still voted for Clinton while only 38 percent voted for his Republican opponent, Bob Dole. In 1992, 45 percent of women voted for Clinton versus 37 percent for George H.W. Bush. (Ross Perot rounded up the remaining votes.) Of course, as I noted early in the run-up to the 2008 campaign, putting an old guy like McCain up against Obama was tantamount to putting up old guys like Dole and Bush against Clinton -- with predictable results. Apparently the GOP did not learn the lesson. Notably, however, 1988 was the last election where a majority of women voted for the Republican candidate -- 50 percent for George H.W. Bush, who narrowly edged out Michael Dukakis's 49 percent. Of course, Ronald Reagan carried more women in both 1980 and 1984 than his younger Democrat opponents. President Reagan carried majorities of women and men because he centered his campaign message on Liberty and free enterprise rather than parsing it 10 different ways in a self-defeating attempt to round up special interest constituencies -- as Republican poll players advise candidates today. I would suggest, in fact, that the only reason that the elder Bush won a slim majority of women voters was carryover good will from President Reagan's tenure in office. In 1988, Bush tried to win over the hearts of women by placating them with his "kinder, gentler" conservatism, which evoked this stern response from Nancy Reagan: "Kinder and gentler than who?" In the end, there is nothing kinder and gentler than Lady Liberty herself. Once again in 2000, the younger Bush made "compassionate conservatism" a centerpiece of his campaign. Didn't work then, either. Revelation: Men & Women Differ? So, what is the GOP to do? When it comes to communication between men and women, I think the title of John Gray's bestseller, "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus," is an apt metaphor. (Maybe in today's parlance, Men are from Google, Women are from Pinterest.) Apparently that divide is more prevalent in Republicans than Democrats. I would argue that the gender divide is really centered on voter perception about a candidate's strength, and that the message, more than age and other factors, is the foundation of a candidate's strength. Though President Reagan was, at age 69, the oldest man ever elected to the presidency, he was rightfully seen by both men and women to be much stronger than either Jimmy Carter or Walter Mondale, both of whom he trounced at the polls. That was not true of the elder Bush, Dole or McCain, whose mild and muddled platform messages led to the perception that they were weaker than their younger opponents. What will draw more female voters to a conservative candidate? For the answer, I went to our resident experts -- 10 of our female editors and National Advisory Committee members. (I should qualify their responses by noting that these women each have strong feminine sides, but are as tough and resilient as most any man -- and two of them are not to be tangled with under any circumstances.) They concurred that a winning campaign is one centered on Liberty and free enterprise, which articulates how those themes serve the best interests of men, women and families. However, the messenger needs additional qualities and our editors outlined a few of those as follows: "Women are moved more by the likability and trustworthiness of a candidate than claims of what government will do for them." "Women are more likely to be the caregiver in a family impacted by a disadvantaged child, senior home-bound adult, dealing more with education needs and activities, health care consumer decisions, etc., and thus finely tuned to those issues." "We are professionals, educated and well informed, who are looking more for the character of who we would marry versus date, and prefer men with spine." "We care deeply about the poor and economically distressed, so tell us how the conservative model will do more to alleviate that than the liberal model. We influence our husbands and families more than Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly and often drive the family philanthropic decisions based on our passion for what is good and right. We are competent in boardrooms and often share the kitchen with our spouse." "We have life stories that include times of disappointment, despair, disillusionment and missed opportunities. We have triumphed, learned, loved and led. Make sure the conservative mandates are presented in such a way that we are inspired to use our life experience to achieve those mandates." "Craft messages and policy statements with language that appeals to our sense of fairness, justice and mercy, and you will win our passion, persuasion and political power! Speak from the heart to the heart -- and tell your political handlers to take a hike. We are looking for truth, purpose and authenticity." "Liberty and freedom are to be cherished -- say that with conviction at every whistle stop. We will fight for the future of our children and their children because many of us rise every morning with that objective. We can project a message to everyone around us while being charming, confident and kind." "Inspiration is what we seek -- the kind of inspiration that has substance, honesty and resilience. Faith, Hope and Love are not cliché to us, but words that speak to our life and shape the legacy we want to and will leave the next generation, Lord willing." "Liberals know that many women can be lured into their camps by appealing to our emotions, and are masters at convincing us to sympathize with their agenda -- persuading us to vote for a host of entitlements that leave many of us feeling good about that vote, rather than understanding that supporting statism perpetuates human misery. Republicans need to short-circuit the liberal message by appealing to the same emotional conviction and convincing us that Leftist doctrines are the source of misery, not the solution for it." "Many mothers I know don't take the time to delve into the issues because they are busy raising families, in some cases juggling a career as well, so they are naturally more influenced by emotive sound bites, a liberal specialty, rather than lengthy cerebral debates. At the end of the day, the MSM is very biased. So the sound-bite consumers (women, in this case) vote without a full understanding of the issues. The Leftmedia definitely sensationalizes and spins to appeal to an emotional level in men and women, rather than a factual one." "I graduated from college in the early '90s, and since then worked at two 'women's rights' organizations. It took me longer to recover from the Leftist university indoctrination than to become disillusioned with the liberal feminist movement. With that as a backdrop, the Democrats have done an excellent job of convincing women, not only that they have their best interests at heart, but what those interests are. The feminist movement is a major driving force in the Democrat Party. There is no real counterforce in the Republican Party, and that is a significant problem. Republican candidates need to take control of the debate, especially on feminist issues." "Husbands and fathers, those of you who have not already fallen victim to feminization, act like men -- but love and affirm your wives and daughters so they will be drawn to strength, not reject it." Post Your Opinion: Women, what else should the GOP know? So, there you have insightful wisdom from conservative women, most of whom are keen observers of their female friends and colleagues of all political stripes. The bottom line is that the GOP candidate who can clearly articulate why Liberty and free enterprise are winning goals for women and families, and who is perceived to be strong, to be of good character, trustworthy and devoted to his spouse and family, will very likely attract enough female voters to defeat Obama socialist propaganda. "Above all we must realize that no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women." --Ronald Reagan Deus et Constitutione - Libertas aut Mortis! Thursday, March 22, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 229 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS The "Etch a Sketch" Candidate When Governor Romney gets some momentum, something happens that ends it. Yesterday's latest example was breathtaking -- especially for a campaign that is supposed to be the best "well-oiled" operation we have to take on Barack Obama. If that's true, then why on earth did Romney's top spokesman, Eric Fernstrom, use language that only reinforced voters' greatest doubt about Romney -- that he is a flip-flopper? The conservative base has been slow to warm to Romney for a reason -- they are not sure that the former governor of Massachusetts genuinely shares their conservative values. That being the case, Governor Romney was ill-served when his top spokesman went on CNN and compared the GOP front-runner's campaign to an Etch a Sketch. "CNN: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election? "Fehrnstrom: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again." I know a lot of conservatives are upset that the GOP candidates keep attacking one another, rather than focusing on Obama. Senator Santorum has been on the receiving end of roughly $10 million in negative ads. I too would have preferred that money be spent on ads exposing Obama's radical agenda. However, Democrats won't have to use anything said by Santorum or Gingrich. They will use the Romney campaign's own words. In fact, they already have! And I can see Barack Obama turning to Mitt Romney in a debate and saying, "When you're in the Oval Office, you have to make tough calls. You can't be an Etch a Sketch and get a do-over." Of course the great irony in all this is that we are being governed by the first Etch a Sketch president. For many Americans Barack Obama was a blank slate in 2008. He ran ads talking about cutting taxes. Yet his whole presidency has been one big effort to raise taxes. He talked about racial reconciliation, but then accused white police officers of acting stupidly and refused to prosecute the New Black Panthers. He says he's against gay marriage, but he opposes every policy designed to stop it. He says he's pro-Israel, but condemns homes for Jews in Jerusalem. He says he wants to lower gas prices, but appoints an Energy Secretary who supports European gas prices. I could go on, but the point is clear. Barack Obama is a weak incumbent. He can be defeated. But to do that, the American people need an alternative who is sincere in what he believes, inspires trust and projects strength. That is why they chose Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter. And I believe the American people would enthusiastically embrace a Reaganesque candidate over Barack Obama. Obama's Energy Farce Continues Barack Obama spoke today in the major oil town of Cushing, Oklahoma, and made a big deal about his support for the southern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline. His speech made it clear just how stupid he thinks we are. To begin with, the southern portion of the pipeline does not require presidential approval. Only the northern part, which crosses an international border, requires special approval. That just happens to be the part of the pipeline that would actually bring in more oil from Canada, and that is the part of the pipeline that Obama and his radical environmental allies are blocking. So what Obama did today won't result in one more drop of oil coming into the country. Obama also tried to take credit today for recent increases in oil production, claiming that he has opened up more land to drilling and exploration. He even said, "We are drilling all over the place." Don't be fooled. There is a big difference between Obama's rhetoric and reality. When Barack Obama took office, the national average for a gallon of gasoline was $1.84. It's now $3.88 a gallon and you're pain at the pump is translating into Obama's pain in the polls. Suddenly he wants to "drill all over the place." Give it a few more weeks, and even Obama might be saying, "Drill, baby, drill!" This is perhaps the most anti-energy administration we have ever had. And as Obama runs around the country making misleading and hypocritical speeches like the one in Cushing, it is important to remind folks about his record.
- The first thing Obama's Interior Secretary did when he took office was to cancel scores of drilling leases.
- The number of operational rigs in the Gulf of Mexico was cut in half after the 2010 BP spill. Why? Because of an Obama drilling ban that held up scores of permits.
- So what about Obama's claim that oil production is up? It's not -- not on land controlled by the federal government. A March 14th report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration noted, "Total sales of all fossil fuels produced on Federal and Indian lands ... rose by about 1 percent between fiscal year 2009 and FY 2010 and dropped by about 6 percent between FY 2010 and FY 2011." [Emphasis added.]
- Obama's Energy Secretary once advocated $8.00-a-gallon gasoline.
- A Harvard study estimated that Obama's cap and trade scheme could have resulted in $7.00-a-gallon gasoline.
- In his speech today, Obama said, "We don't want to be vulnerable to something that's happening on the other side of the world." No we don't. But it was Barack Obama who blocked the Keystone XL pipeline that would bring in more oil from friendly Canada.
- According to Gallup, 57% of Americans want the Keystone XL pipeline built. Just 29% oppose it. Obama sided with the 29%.
- He wants to bankrupt the coal industry, which he admits will cause electricity rates to "necessarily skyrocket."
It's clear Obama thinks the American people are stupid and won't connect the dots. He's wrong. He also assumes the media are in the tank for him, so they won't point out the hypocrisy of this event or his extreme positions. He's right about that. That is why your continued support for our work is so important! Please keep reaching out to friends and family members. Keep sharing these reports and encouraging folks to sign up! Obama Opposes North Carolina Amendment Here's another example of Obama's hypocrisy and just how extreme his agenda really is. Last week, Obama announced his opposition to an amendment that will be on North Carolina's May primary ballot. Presidents rarely get involved in state ballot issues, so what's the urgent issue that got the White House's attention? On May 8th North Carolinians will be asked to vote on an amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And Barack Obama felt it was really important to be against this. Obama won't yet publicly endorse the radical idea of men "marrying" other men. His views on gay marriage are still "evolving." But in the meantime, he's opposed to every policy that upholds traditional marriage. He ordered the Justice Department to stop supporting the Defense of Marriage Act in court and now he is even intervening against efforts to preserve marriage at the state level. Republicans who think we need a truce on values issues are mistaken. As Obama demonstrated once again, the left isn't about to stop fighting the culture war. Yet Obama's extremism is most obvious when it comes to cultural and values issues. I hope the people of North Carolina, and Americans everywhere who care about traditional marriage, remember this on November 6th. We will do everything we can to remind them!
