'Our Values Are Being Destroyed': Beck Blasts New Fed Farm Rule Plan
The Blaze | by Scott Baker | Posted on March 16, 2012 at 12:47am
The federal government is proposing some sweeping new regulations that will affect how family farms operate in America. The Blaze has reported on these regulations over the last year. This week we covered the testimony by Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis before the Senate Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, and Pensions.
The regulations and what Solis had to say did not sit well with Glenn Beck. He spent significant portion of his Thursday GBTV broadcast explaining his deep concerns. GlennBeck.com describes this as "one of his most passionate monologues since he began to broadcast on television."

Dear Fellow Patriot,
We have a choice in this years Pennsylvania Senatorial election that will have far reaching consequences for Pennsylvania.
Roger Howard is challenging Dominic Pileggi in the 9th district. Dominic has never been challenged and with the lack of any reformative legislation coming from Harrisburg along with the redistricting fiasco, he is very vulnerable. Can you imagine replacing the third most powerful Republican in Harrisburg?
Right now what stands in our way is the ability to get the message out. We are ordering yard signs and if we had an extra $1000.00 we could double what we are ordering.
Can you make a small donation of $10, $25 or $50. It would make a big difference. Please go to the web site now

Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution
Available to you, your family, your friends, and all Americans.
Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!
 | Dr. Larry P. Arnn |
Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"
In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.
That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."
Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.
I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!
And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.
Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:
"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"
This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!
I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!
"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.
It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.
Classes listed in Blue have been posted on YouTube and can be viewed by clicking on the link for each class below.

The U.S. Constitution
A Reader
Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.
Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader. Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.
About Hillsdale College
Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."
Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs. Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012. |

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.
What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.
The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.
There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.
But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.
Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.
If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.
But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.
Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.
Thanks,
John Ryan

CAIR's Fight Against Pennsylvania Foreign Law Bill
by David J. Rusin FrontPage Magazine February 13, 2012
http://www.islamist-watch.org/9192/cair-fight-against-pennsylvania-foreign-law-bill
Resistance to a new bill aimed at limiting foreign law in Pennsylvania courts serves as a case study of how Islamists and their allies operate: peddling falsehoods about Shari'a, painting Muslims as victims, and denying that anyone seeks to institutionalize aspects of Islamic law - even as they vigorously promote that very agenda. With similar legislation being debated across the U.S., understanding their tactics is critical.
At issue in Pennsylvania is House Bill (HB) 2029, which stipulates that "a tribunal shall not consider a foreign legal code or system which does not grant ... the same fundamental liberties, rights and privileges" as guaranteed by the federal and state constitutions. Introduced in November, it follows the American Laws for American Courts (ALAC) model and makes no mention of Shari'a. A preliminary memo sent to legislators last June in the name of Rep. RoseMarie Swanger, HB 2029's chief sponsor, does highlight Islamic law, but she later said that it had been circulated accidentally. Regardless, concerns about Shari'a are warranted due to its many provisions that conflict with the standards of American jurisprudence. For example, it disadvantages women in terms of inheritance, divorce, child custody, and other areas of family law. Shari'a already has shaped numerous cases nationwide, including in Pennsylvania, where one state court decided how assets should be distributed according to Islam.
Pushback against HB 2029 has been led by the Philadelphia office of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-PA) and was punctuated by an interfaith press conference (video here) at CAIR-PA headquarters on December 14. The overall campaign reflects CAIR's usual recipe of distortion, victimology, and contradiction between words and deeds.
Attacks on bills like HB 2029 begin by sowing confusion about Shari'a. Because Islamic law encompasses virtually every facet of life - governing personal activities such as eating and worship, but also forming an oppressive social and legal structure - suit-and-tie Islamists work to emphasize its unthreatening pieces whenever possible. CAIR-PA executive director Moein Khawaja's suggestion that Shari'a should worry Pennsylvanians no more than halal gyros is a fine example of this technique.

March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue. As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Thousands of Americans of all faiths will be participating in these peaceful rallies, organized by the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society to oppose the new mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that requires all employers provide free contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs through their health plans, even in violation of their consciences.
Religious leaders and other public figures will speak out against the HHS Mandate at each Rally site. Holding signs reading "Stand Up for Religious Freedom" and "Stop the HHS Mandate," participants will offer hymns and prayers for our nation and pass out literature to the public about why the HHS Mandate is unconstitutional and Un-American.

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

John Stossel - May 2, 2012
The Union League of Philadelphia
Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.
Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

From July 16 through July 18, 2012, Christians United for Israel will be holding its 7th Annual Washington Summit. We're going back to stand with Israel in our nation's capital. This year - more than ever - we need you to join us!
In the coming months, critical decisions are going to be made about Iran, Israel and the world. Finally, Washington is beginning to focus on the issue of a nuclear Iran. Many of our leaders want to confront this looming threat. But others want to keep kicking the can down the road. The debate is far from over.
- We know that when thousands of CUFI activists arrive in DC and on Capitol Hill, we can change the conversation.
- We can remind our leaders that a nuclear Iran is not only a threat to Israel, but to the US as well. And we can demonstrate to our elected officials that their constituents care enough about this issue to show up at their DC offices.
- We know that we can create a sense of immediacy that's otherwise lacking.
- We know that the more of us who show up and speak out -- the louder our voice and the greater our impact.
We stand at a critical juncture in history. Don't be silent! Don't miss your chance to make a difference! Don't pass up your opportunity to defend America and bless Israel!
Our leaders need to remember that we are watching them and we need to remember that God is watching us.
The time to speak out for Israel is now! Please register today for CUFI's 2012 DC Summit.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Deception, betrayal, and dishonesty. These are not appealing traits in elected officials, but sadly, they aptly describe many Republican lawmakers across the country feverishly working to implement ObamaCare. Would you believe that Governor Tom Corbett is among those Republicans diligently complying with ObamaCare? Despite the fact that Pennsylvania is party to the lawsuit being heard before the Supreme Court, Tom Corbett is implementing the law in our state. ObamaCare requires that each state set up what is known as a Health Insurance Exchange. In theory, these exchanges will be one-stop online shops where individuals will pool together to purchase insurance. Without a state-created exchange, the individual mandate cannot be enforced. As in all bureaucracies, there are some major downfalls, not the least of which is the anticipated spike in the cost of insurance. Other significant issues include: - The federal government will dictate what insurers may participate
- The federal government will decide minimum coverage-potentially including such elective procedures as breast augmentation and face lifts
- The federal government will stipulate how the exchange is run
I could go on, but I'm certain you recognize the theme. The federal government will control every aspect of our health care. Yet, Governor Corbett claims that establishing CorbettCare will protect Pennsylvania citizens from undue federal regulation. The opposite is actually true. Creation of the CorbettCare Exchange does great harm and forces onerous federal regulations on our state. Governor Corbett is readily ceding state Sovereignty to the central government, and relinquishing all authority on health care matters. Our state has already requested and accepted over $33 million to set up the exchange! Merely accepting and spending federal funds requires absolute obedience to federal government regulations, and the loss of state sovereignty. A key responsibility of state officials is to protect our sovereignty, yet our legislators may be considering legislation to assist in the establishment of CorbettCare. And like obedient little children, these turncoats expect you to forget their empty promises, ignore their campaign rhetoric, and blame the Federal Government for all of the many losses you will suffer as a result. Click here to sign the petition demanding that the over $33 million in grant funds be returned and all contingency plans to submit to ObamaCare be abandoned immediately! If you'd like to tell Governor Corbett how you feel about this scheme, you can reach him at 717-787-2500. There are over 1 billion reasons why some states are establishing these exchanges-and each reason has a dollar sign attached. With over $1 billion at stake, and more than $700 million already sent to complicit states, it's easy to understand why greedy politicians have their hands out before the court can rule. These funds are being used all over the country to enrich political allies and the well-connected. Millions of your taxpayer dollars are being wasted, and you are footing the bill while they steal your freedoms. Those hundreds of millions will never be returned to our treasury-unless you and I do something to force the issue now. Tell your legislators that even if the Supreme Court fails to overturn ObamaCare, you expect them to protect your rights and jealously guard our state sovereignty by refusing to establish a state exchange. For Liberty, Deb Wells Interim State Coordinator Alabama Campaign for Liberty P.S. After you sign the petition demanding our state return all ObamaCare Exchange grant funds, please pass this message along to your contacts!

Bob Casey's approval ratings are nothing to write home about, but he continues to have a large lead over all of his potential Republican opponents.
38% of Pennsylvania voters approve of the job Casey is doing to 36% who disapprove. A higher than usual 26% have no opinion. Usually a Senator with a 38% approval rating would be in a lot of trouble. But Casey actually has an unusual amount of crossover support from Republicans, with 22% approving of him. The reason his numbers are low is that only 58% of Democrats approve of him to 23% who disapprove. Usually Senators are in the 70-80% range with members of their own party.
Casey may have only 58% of Democrats who approve of the job he's doing, but 76-78% of them still commit to voting for him in the general election against any of his potential Republican opponents. In addition to strong support from the Democratic base he takes anywhere from 17-22% of the GOP vote against his possible foes, and leads with independents by 17-23 points.
It all adds up to a 15-20 point early lead no matter who runs against him. Sam Rohrer comes the closest of the Republicans, trailing by 15 at 49-34. Tom Smith and David Christian trail by 18 points at 49-31 and 50-32 respectively. Marc Scaringi and Steve Welch do the worst, trailing by identical 20 point margins at 49-29.

I am sending this out as a separate message due to the importance of the subject.
You have seen that an E-verify bill is being considered by our politicians. At first glance, it looks good. BUT BUT BUT read on! Jim
Many groups, to include Numbers USA, are urging passage of this bill and they have sent many e-mails out requesting we send e-mails and phone calls to have this bill passed.
House Speaker Boehner is not bringing the bill up to the House at this time and is being criticized. If passed, this bill would give the Government complete authority on E-verify and eliminateany states rights regarding E-verify. Yes, our Government would run it. You know what happens when our Government runs anything!
Some intelligent politicians rightfully offered an amendment to correct the existing bill to permit and give states rights regarding e-verify. Unfortunately the amendment was killed.

1. Against Partial Repeal There are a number of conservatives clamoring to begin partially repealing Obamacare. Some are misguided, thinking we need to have a series of partial repeal votes to go on and get rid of the bad everyone can agree to get rid of and also keep the issue alive with the voters. Others are useful idiots. They claim to want to get rid of parts of the bill about which there is bipartisan contempt. In reality, they actually know that each time a part of the bill is repealed or "improved" the harder it becomes to actually get rid of the whole. Both those who naively think we should keep nibbling away and those who think we should improve it as a back door way to keeping some semblance of "reform" are misguided at best and deluded at worst. Full repeal is the only tactic the GOP should take for very legitimate reasons.
2. After a Decade of Operations, Is It Time to Pull the Plug on Afghanistan? As we hit the 10 1/2 year mark in Afghanistan, the state of trust and confidence between the coalition and the Afghan people is at perhaps its lowest ebb, and support for the war effort is wavering across the political spectrum. Given this, it appears time to reconsider the current status of our effort there - what have we accomplished, and what do we still hope and reasonably expect to accomplish? - as well as what the future may and should hold. Below the fold are some questions that need to be considered about our objectives, accomplishments, and expectations in Afghanistan. This list is not exhaustive by any means, and I certainly don't claim to have all of the answers; in fact, I may not have any of them. However, they do need to be carefully thought about, and answered, at some point in the immediate future. 3. Libtalker Randy Rhodes spews anti-Indian racism like so many teeth. You know, I have a problem with the way that somebody ambushed Randi Rhodes and got her to make racist and prejudiced comments about the governors of Louisiana and South Carolina. It's just... cruel to do that to an alcoholic on a bender; when you have somebody with an existing history of being found face down in the gutter with the recent contents of her stomach spread out around her in a semi-particulate spray, taking advantage of that by shoving a microphone in her face and asking her to spout off some good, old-fashioned racism is simply not very civi... wait, hold on. She talked this trash on the air? "Bobby Jindal even converted from Hinduism - Nikki Haley, too - in order to be acceptable to the conservative South in Louisiana and uh - [about a five second pause] Georgia! I mean, that is crazy that in order to be acceptable to the party you have to, you know, pretend that you've given up your religion!" While sober? Well, then.

Appeasement, in the name of altruism, practiced by our leadership today in Iraq and Afghanistan is consciously calculated to destroy not only our military but America itself. It represents a deliberate surrender of values, with full knowledge of the consequences.
"No, we, the policymakers and the MSM, will only focus and dwell on American actions, and not Afghan crime, for after all, if we weren't there, there wouldn't be any Afghan crime. Right. Before the Americans arrived, Afghanistan was the playground of the rich and famous, with immaculate beaches, five-star hotels, a friendly and outgoing populace, health spas, ski resorts, and crime statistics so low they put the Amish country to shame..."

Keystone Cronies: State Agency Colludes with CAIR-PA
Posted By Hillel Zaremba On March 11, 2012
Tasked with administering and enforcing the state's anti-discrimination laws, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC [1]) has become entangled in aiding an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood [2] in its goal of stigmatizing and silencing any criticism of Islam or Muslims, including those engaged in terrorism.
The law that created the PHRC empowers it [3] to:
Track incidents of bias that may cause community tension and to educate the general public, law enforcement, educators, and government officials in order to prevent discrimination and foster equal opportunity.
Occurrences labeled "bias incidents [4]" are logged into a monthly "bias report" that is forwarded to the Pennsylvania State Police, who decide whether to investigate items appearing there. Thus, the PHRC generates a government-sanctioned report card on the level and types of intergroup tensions and possible hate crimes within the commonwealth. In the words of one PHRC official [5]:
We use the bias report to inform the Legislature about trends and for our community education purposes.
In a better world, this course of action might be considered admirable. But in Harrisburg a system has evolved by which CAIR-PA [6],[1] [7] the local affiliate of the Council on American-Islamic Relations - an organization [8] declared an unindicted co-conspirator [9] in America's most significant terror financing trial [10] - can manipulate data and push the pernicious myth that the U.S. is filled with hateful, anti-Muslim citizens.
How does it accomplish this? The PHRC convenes a working group, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Civil Tension [11], whose purpose is "to prevent and/or respond to bias-related incidents and the escalation of intergroup tensions" in Pennsylvania. It includes representatives from the FBI, state police, the state attorney general's office, and numerous public and private advocacy organizations throughout Pennsylvania. One of these is CAIR-PA.
Beginning in 2004 - and increasing in tempo from 2006 to the present - CAIR-PA has fed the PHRC items that it claims demonstrate bias against Muslims. These items then end up in the PHRC's bias reports with no apparent reflection on whether they truly constitute bias incidents, actually took place, or ought to appear in a report intended to focus on Pennsylvania.

DISTRUST: MARINES DISARMED FOR PANETTA AT CAMP LEATHERNECK
(Telegraph) - Less than a week after a US staff sergeant allegedly massacred 16 civilians in Kandahar, American soldiers were banned from bringing guns into a talk by Mr Panetta at a base in Helmand province.
Around 200 troops who had gathered in a tent at Camp Leatherneck were told "something had come to light" and asked abruptly to file outside and lay down their automatic rifles and 9mm pistols.
"Somebody got itchy, that's all I've got to say. Somebody got itchy - we just adjust," said the sergeant who was told to clear the hall of weapons.
Major General Mark Gurganus later said he gave the order because Afghan troops attending the talk were unarmed and he wanted the policy to be consistent for all.

March 15, 2012 AMJA's goal: replacing our Constitution with sharia law The enablers of radical Islam in government, academia and the media regularly dismiss warnings like ours. They have either never heard of, don't want to know about, or don't want you to know about, the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA). When you read the eye-popping column below (highlights added), posted by our friend Andrew Bostom, you'll be reminded why the willful blindness of the enablers of radical Islam is so dangerous. We take little comfort in the ruling of an AMJA jurist (quoted below), who writes (referring to the Muslim community in America): "The Islamic community does not possess the strength to engage in offensive jihad at this time."
Mainstream American Muslim Jurists' Blueprint for Undermining America's Legal System Posted By Andrew Bostom On March 14, 2012
Salah al-Sawy, mainstream AMJA "jurist", expresses his patriotic views on US citizenship: As for obtaining citizenships in light of circumstances of Muslims today who are residing outside the lands of Islam - on the condition that they do not accept indefinitely the law and legislation of that country and being indefinite belonging to the nation of the non-Muslim country so that they become loyal to all their allies and an enemy to all their enemies - and obtaining the citizenship is considered a required means in order to organize the affairs of Muslims who already live there while ensuring fulfilling vows and agreements between them and host countries, and exists due to urgent necessities and needs and this Muslim kept his loyalty to Allaah and His Messenger, then it would not be farfetched to say that it would be permissible.

Barack Obama to Khalid Muhammad: Two Degrees of Separation
by John Hinderaker | Posted on March 10, 2012
John Podhoretz and Patterico highlight a close connection between Barack Obama and Khalid Muhammad. Obama, as we know, was a disciple of Derrick Bell; in the video that Breitbart.com released a few days ago, he urged his listeners to open their hearts and minds to Bell's teachings. So, what were Bell's teachings?
Bell was a fervent admirer of Louis Farrakhan and Khalid Muhammad of the Nation of Islam. Podhoretz quotes a 1994 interview in which Bell said, "We should really appreciate the Louis Farrakhans and the Khalid Muhammads while we've got them." Our readers are well aware of the repellent Farrakhan, but who was Khalid Muhammad? Patterico gives us Muhammad's "Kill the Cracker" speech, in which Muhammad, whom Derrick Bell so admired, advocated genocide:

Thursday, March 15, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 236 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS NAACP Takes Voter ID To U.N. A debate over voter ID laws has erupted in Geneva, Switzerland. It's not because of anything the Swiss have done. Unbelievably, the NAACP is taking its crusade against voter IDs to the United Nation's Human Rights Council. This is a bizarre move given that the Obama Justice Department is already blocking voter ID laws in South Carolina and Texas. Fox News reports that eight states have passed voter ID laws in the past year, and legislation is pending in 32 other states. Yesterday, Pennsylvania became the latest state to enact a voter ID law. The American people overwhelmingly support voter ID laws, and the Supreme Court has upheld them. So why would the NAACP go halfway across the globe to bash the United States at the U.N. Human Rights Council? The left doesn't like America very much. They want to "fundamentally transform" it into something more like a European-style socialist welfare state. Increasingly, whenever the left loses a debate in this country, it turns to the "international community" for support. Left-wing judges see no problem with using foreign law to support their radical rulings. And what about the U.N. Human Rights Council? There are 47 nations that sit on the council, including some of the worst violators of human rights. The NAACP is taking its case against our voter ID laws before the likes of Burkina Faso, Cuba, China and Saudi Arabia, which does not even allow women to vote! The Bush Administration refused to deal with the U.N. Human Rights Council due to its blatant anti-Israel bias. But Obama reversed that. And, for the first time ever, Obama's State Department submitted a report to the council in 2010 that was critical of America's human rights record. Acting on Obama's precedent, the NAACP feels justified taking its case against voter ID laws to the U.N. Here We Go Again Reuters reports that following discussions yesterday between British Prime Minister David Cameron and U.S. President Barack Obama, both nations are shortly expected to "to join forces in a release of oil from government-controlled reserves." This action is being taken, again quoting Reuters, because "Rising world oil prices have pushed U.S. gasoline prices up sharply this year and threaten to choke economic recovery ahead of Obama's bid for re-election in November." Here we go again. Let me make a couple of points. Obama released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves last June. It didn't do much then, and I suspect it won't do much now. My car, just like everyone else's, runs on gasoline. Just like you, I am happy when the price goes down. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was not meant for price manipulation but for emergencies. I realize Barack Obama's falling approval rating might qualify as an emergency at the Democrat National Committee, but "political emergencies" don't count. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve was created to address emergencies in supply disruption like the Arab oil embargo or a major natural disaster. Oil prices are high in part because oil is a commodity and the market looks forward, not backwards. Major industries that rely on oil, looking at what the Obama Administration has done, are betting that prices are going to remain high in the future because there will be less supply on the market. For example, the number of operational rigs in the Gulf of Mexico was cut in half after the 2010 BP spill. Why? Because of the Obama drilling ban that held up scores of permits. We don't have to guess about this. Obama's green agenda relies on making traditional energy more expensive. The first thing Obama's Interior Secretary did when he took office was to cancel scores of drilling leases. His Energy Secretary once advocated $8.00-a-gallon gasoline. A Harvard study estimated that Obama's cap and trade scheme could have resulted in $7.00-a-gallon gasoline. Obama blocked the Keystone XL pipeline. And Obama himself promised to bankrupt the coal industry. Here's something else to consider. Do you recall how dismissive the Democrats are whenever we talk about drilling in Alaska? They say we can't drill our way out of this problem; that more oil on the market isn't the solution. So why then is Obama once again releasing oil onto the global market? When Barack Obama took office, the national average for a gallon of gasoline was $1.84. Oil and gas prices have been going up ever since. But now that he is in full campaign mode and his poll numbers are falling, the oil is flowing so long as it suits his interests. FBI Issues Homeland Warning ABC News is reporting that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued an "awareness bulletin" to local law enforcement agencies warning them to be prepared for possible attacks from HVEs -- homegrown violent extremists. The FBI is concerned that the HVEs may launch reprisal attacks against Americans and U.S. military personnel in response to the killings of Afghan civilians last weekend by an American soldier. Here's an excerpt:
"The FBI and DHS [Department of Homeland Security] are concerned that this event could contribute to the radicalization or mobilization of homegrown violent extremists [HVEs] in the homeland, particularly against U.S.-based military targets... [the killings] will likely be incorporated into violent extremist propaganda and could contribute to an individual's radicalization to violence."
The FBI was wise to issue the warning. But it once again underscores the reality of the enemy we are confronting. The FBI is not worried about radicalized Lutherans or Mormon extremists. It is worried about radical Muslims. Yet when Rep. Peter King (R-NY) holds hearings about the dangers of radicalization within the Muslim community, the left goes nuts. When the New York Police Department conducts surveillance of mosques, the ACLU threatens to sue. But it is impossible to fight and win a war if you refuse to acknowledge who the enemy is.

Paul Followers Now Going After Those Who Stand With Israel
By Craig Andresen on September 28, 2011
|
Anybody who is politically inclined, a conservative and into social media has no doubt been noticing the tactics and strategies of those who follow Ron Paul. If you're a Ron Paul follower yourself, you will no doubt start vibrating while reading this.
Paulbots can do themselves a big favor and save some time by getting their collective panties in a wad right now.
The latest tactic, or strategy being employed by the Ron Paul followers, Paulbots, is to attack through their various social media outlets, those who support Benjamin Netanyahu.
Paulbots, as we know, love to jump into the discussions of others and start poking those who are engaged with a stick trying to provoke a fight. This latest tactic simply isn't going to win them any friends in the conservative community. Oh, their choir will crow - but outside that select and isolated group, they're just completely missing the mark.
A Facebook friend posted a blog link about Netanyahu calling for shooting Palestinians who were throwing rocks at Israelis. The blog included an Israeli newspaper with the headline "Shoot to Kill." IMMEDIATELY, a Ron Paul supporter jumped in stating, "...noticed that Netanyahu, who tells people to "shoot to kill" Palestinian children throwing stones and wants to ban foreign media so they cannot report Israel's atrocities "inspires" you. You also call yourself a Christian which is something I highly doubt. I suppose you agree with Netanyahu's stance in this article?" http://muqata.blogspot.com/2010/10/netanyahu-shoot-to-kill-rock-throwers.html
She didn't bother to mention that the article she mentioned was 23 years old nor did she bother to acknowledge that this has been brought up by a recent event where a young Palestinian threw a rock just days ago severely injuring a 20-month-old Israeli child.
Not saying that I would advocate shooting people who are throwing rocks on a general basis or as a general practice - I felt obligated to weigh in with this:
"I wonder how many of those who threw rocks, 23 years ago when Netanyahu said this, and weren't shot, have now taught their children to use bombs to kill the Jews. I am certain those who were shot, have not."

OBAMA: COMMUNIST-RECOGNIZED CONGRESSMAN 'SHARES OUR VALUES'by Admin on March 13, 2012 in CPUSA

"He is one on the greatest congressmen in the country," said President Obama. The reason, Obama told a Teamsters union rally in 2004, "is because he shares our values."At that time-just eight years ago- Congressman Danny Davis was continuing his efforts to help move then-State Senator Obama up the Chicago political food chain. And not that long ago- in fact, just two weeks-that Congressman Davis was honored by People's World, a news website, at the Communist Party U.S.A.'s headquarters in Chicago for a lifetime of "inspiring leadership." Upon receiving the People's World "Chris Hani & Rudy Lozano Social Justice Award," Davis reflected, "Rudy Lozano and I worked closely together to try and build and a relationship between Latino and African-American activists and union types... we called ourselves 'Progressives.'" Congressman Davis, a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, was filmed receiving his award and exiting the Communist Party U.S.A. headquarters in Chicago on March 4, 2012. When questioned about his relationship with the Communist Party, Davis abruptly fled the scene, refusing to answer any further questions apart from the following exchange:

Awesome 1: 20 Million Extra People Will Lose Their Private Health Care Under ObamaCare Awesome 2: And This Is Going to Cost Double What We Said It Would
-Ace
If you like your doctor, you can have this other doctor over here.
As many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-provided coverage because of President Obama's healthcare reform law, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said in a new report Thursday.
The figure represents the worst-case scenario, CBO says, and the law could just as well increase the number of people with employer-based coverage by 3 million in 2019. The best estimate, subject to a "tremendous amount of uncertainty," is that about 3 million to 5 million fewer people will obtain coverage through their employer each year from 2019 through 2022.
Given the CBO's flacking for ObamaCare, and the reliability of government "estimates" (I won't get you pregnant if I just put in the tip), I'm thinking the "worst case" scenario is really the most likely scenario.
But the good news is -- this will cost double what the CBO claimed it would.
The Congressional Budget Office has extended its cost estimates for President Obama's health care law out to 2022, taking in more years of full implementation, and showing that the bill is substantially more expensive -- twice as much as the original $900 billion price tag.
In a largely overlooked segment of the CBO's update to the budget outlook released Tuesday, the independent arm of Congress found that the bill will cost $1.76 trillion between now and 2022. That only counts the cost of coverage, not implementation costs and other changes. "The bill spends more than the president promised, it covers fewer people -- probably 2 million fewer people -- and it taxes more than was expected," said Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee.
Sessions notes that while we're dismantling our Navy to save $2.1 trillion, ObamaCare itself costs $2.6 trillion (when you take into account all costs).
Seems like we don't have that money, and people don't like this program.
Breitbart.com notes that while this double-the-costs story broke yesterday, the networks all failed to mention it.
Instead, Dianne Sawyer chose to lush about the economy "heating up."

Should Al Sharpton Be Tossed off Air? Watch His "You a Punk Faggot!" and "Colin Powell Is House Negro" Videos
Mar 13, 2012 09:59 pm | Jeff Dunetz
This post was originally published in December 2010. But since Politico published the video below as an exclusive today, I thought I would republish from the days it was my "exclusive". With a bonus video of Sharpton calling Colin Powell Bush's House Negro. Since the liberals are unsuccessfully trying to get Rush Limbaugh off the air, I wonder if they will do the same with Rev. Al. Back in the day a local independent TV Station in the New York City ran a original talk show called the Morton Downey Jr show. The program featured screaming matches among Downey, his guests, and audience members. Using a large silver bowl for an ashtray, he would chainsmoke during the show and blow smoke in his guests' faces. Downey's fans became known as "Loudmouths", patterned after the studio lecterns decorated with gaping cartoon mouths, from which Downey's guests would go head-to-head against each other on their respective Springer's trailer-trash in heat show is classy compared to the regular Downy fare.
Thanks to Downy phrases such as "pablum puking liberal" and "zip it!" were written on t shirts all across America contemporary vernacular. Part of his shtick was fighting with the guests and enticing guests to fight with each other.
An upcoming documentary about the late Morton Downey, Jr., the acerbic, chain-smoking talk show host, promises a meditation on the progenitor of trash TV, whose eponymous 1980s program was filmed in Secaucus, New Jersey and whose audience was filled with current and future probationers. For us, though, the highlight of the the trailer for "Évocateur" is the brief time capsule look at Al Sharpton, then a rotund Brooklyn reverend with a prodigious konk. As seen above, during a commercial break--but while cameras continued rolling--the civil rights leader is seen yelling at an audience member who likely had commented negatively on Sharpton's weight, race, bow tie, or affiliation with Tawana Brawley. Perhaps all four.
Saying that he was "tired of them acting big," Sharpton told the unseen audience member, "You ain't nothing! You a punk faggot!" Gesturing for the Downey fan to come up to the stage and rumble, Sharpton added, "Now come on and do something." Since becoming a respected leader, Rev. Al has dropped the term "punk faggot" from his fiery verbal repertoire, records show.
Here's another lovely video, this an earlier post-showing a speech from February 2007 Obama's buddy Al Sharpton calling Powell Bush's House Negro-Do you think President Obama will call General Powell to apologize?
Now the left says Bill Maher's hate is different than Rush Limbaugh because Maher is a comedian. The only thing funny about Al Sharpton is that people give the professional bigot respect. Wait I take that back, its not funny--its sad.

MJ Rosenberg Renounces "Israel Firster Slander"-Doubles Down on Jew-Hate and Says Yidwithlid is a Mean Guy
Mar 13, 2012 01:04 pm | Jeff Dunetz
Well, there you go again! Ronald Reagan To Jimmy Carter Presidential Debate, October 28 1980
There is good news and bad news. First the good news; on his Media Matters blog MJ Rosenberg has promised he will no longer use the term "Israel firster" The bad news is he defended his use of the term and launched into his usual hateful prose directed toward Israel and the Jewish Americans.
But I will do so without using the term "Israel Firster." The term was coined in 1960 by the late Abram Leon Sachar, founding President of Brandeis University, and a renowned Jewish historian (his son Howard Morley Sachar remains the greatest historian of contemporary Jewry) and was first used by the elder Sachar in a speech he delivered that year to a Zionist organization.
This is a typical MJ Rosenberg half-truth. He is correct when he says Sachar used the term Israel-firster, but he didn't use it the same way MJ and his MMFA buddies throw around the term. For Sacher the term represented the tension between the American Jewish Community and Israeli Jewish Community in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Sacher's Israel-firsters were Jews who felt the Jewish people could never have a fulfilling religious life outside of Israel It was never used by Sacher to impugn Jewish Americans as being some how less than loyal to America.
It [Israel-firster] has proven to be a distraction, allowing the pro-war lobby to focus on my choice of words rather than the substance of my arguments. I will not be using it again, for many reasons including the fact that some good people were genuinely offended by it. That was not my intention. My intention is to focus like the proverbial laser on the threat posed by war with Iran and the 45 year occupation.
Rosenberg ignores his other anti-Semitic smears, American Jews control the media, American Jews control foreign policy (and caused the rebellion in Egypt) as he claimed in this post a year ago.
I am often accused of harping on the lobby's baleful influence. I plead guilty. But it's my obligation because (1) I know from personal experience - 15 years on Capitol Hill and four at AIPAC - how it operates, (2) I know how little it really cares about Israel, and (3) I am free to tell the truth about it. If I worked in the mainstream media or in the U.S. government, I wouldn't be.
Rosenberg doesn't renounce calling Binyamin Netanyahu is a terrorist (modern day blood libel), or his claim that AIPAC is disloyal to America. This first tweet was made during Netanyahu's 2011 speech to AIPAC:
It was followed up with:
Another Rosenberg slander is; those war-mongering Jews pushed the United States into the Iraq war at the behest of Ariel Sharon (even though Sharon warned Bush not to invade Iraq). A recent Huffington Post article talking about Israeli plans to attack Iran was titled: After Iraq Success, Neocons Push Iran War. Just like Pat Buchanan, Rosenberg uses the term neocon as a polite way to say Jews. The Media Matters Senior Fellow doubled-down on the Iraq war lie in today's post:
But then there is Iran. Watching the AIPAC conference, I was horrified to see an ostensibly pro-Israel organization promoting a war that presents an existential threat to Israel's survival. I vehemently oppose the very idea of war with Iran and am appalled by the right-wing Israeli government but, even more, by its supporters here at home who are trying to push the president to either bomb or support the bombing of Iran. .... Many of the same people who pushed us into Iraq are doing the same thing with Iran. They are pressuring Congress to prevent the president of the United States from negotiating with the Iranian government. They are banning diplomatic contacts. They are (as they have for a decade) hyping the Iranian threat, in part because they want a war and, in part, because they want to use President Obama's reluctance to jeopardize lives as a tool to defeat him In November. And they are demanding that should Iran develop a nuclear bomb, we must not contain the threat (as we did with the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, Pakistan, etc.) but should immediately go to war.
Rosenberg claims that he didn't mean Jews in the above, he even points out that a non Jewish Newt Gingrich spoke at AIPAC. But look at the way he sets it up, blaming an ostensibly pro-Israel organization promoting a war that presents an existential threat to Israel's survival, and following up with Many of the same people who pushed us into Iraq are doing the same thing with Iran. If Rosenberg wasn't talking about AIPAC he is an awful writer, since that is the impression he leaves the reader. Rosenberg also uses this blog post to reinforce some of his other common lies:
One monumental thing has changed in 43 years. In 1969, neither any Arab country nor the Palestinians accepted Israel's right to exist. Since then, Israel, Jordan and Egypt have signed bilateral peace agreements, and remain committed to their terms. The PLO recognizes Israel's right to exist securely within the '67 lines. The entire Arab League (every single Arab state) is offering Israel peace, normalization and security in exchange for ending the occupation. As Shimon Peres says, Israel now has "partners for peace."
As far as the PLO both Fatah, the party of Prime Minister Abbas and Hamas the terrorist thugs running Gaza have refused to recognize Israel as a Jewish State (that is what the UN created in 1947 via resolution 181). The reason for their refusal they intend to flood Israel with the great grandchildren, cousins etc., of the original refugees so Israel become just another Muslim country. MJ neglects to mention three Israeli Prime Ministers, Barak, Olmert and most recently Netanyahu offered deals which give the Palestinians 98% of what they supposedly want, all three offers were refused. As for the Arab League, it's hard to understand where he gets that claim. The Palestinians aren't a partner for peace, neither is the new al Qaeda-controlled Libya, Hezbollah controls Lebanon, the Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Egypt is threatening to void the peace agreement, and Syria's present government has no intention of making peace. Even the supposedly moderate Saudi Arabia refused to be in the same room as Israeli negotiators during the Annapolis discussions at the end of the Bush presidency. Despite his renunciation of the term Israel firster its the same old Jew-hating MJ Rosenberg, reinterpreting history, portraying both Israel and American Jews as war-mongers, and still believing Jews control the media and government. He simply stopped using one term; it is obvious he has not changed his ways. Update: A different version of this post appeared on Big Journalism and apparently "Little Mikey's" feelings were hurt. As he tweeted:
"Some Guy?" MJ has been reading my posts and tweets ever since I started exposing his hatred six years ago. He has even commented on my posts before. Always with something snarky, never trying to refute the facts--because he know them true. I must have really hurt him this time because he tweeted about me four times yesterday. What he is talking about is the term "Yid" is used by non-Jews as a pejorative term. Which is one of the reasons I chose "Yid With Lid" as my nickname. Its my way of saying call me what you will, but my Lid is smarter than those of Jew-Haters such as MJ Rosenberg. And notice he doesn't dispute the facts, just says I was mean. Poor little Mikey, his "wittle" feelings were hurt. Makes me so sad I may cry..NAH!

What a War with Iran Really Means: Proceed With Great Caution
Mar 13, 2012 08:18 am | Jeff Dunetz
Personally I have come around to the point of view that all the bluster at last week's AIPAC meeting was simply that....bluster directed toward Iran. Despite what the press is reporting, Israel has not decided to attack Iran before or after the election. The truth is they need to be totally sure that they can do enough damage to the nuclear program before they bomb it, and they are not sure. Also they need to be willing to have a protracted war with Iran, this would not be like Iraq or Syria where the IAF bombs the plant, the world complains and everyone goes home happy. Just read the analysis below by my friend and teacher Barry Rubin.
By Barry Rubin It is quite right to be worried and hesitant about entering a war with Iran. War, as recent events in Iraq and Afghanistan show, is a dangerous, bloody, often dirty mess in which things go wrong, civilians are killed inadvertently, your own side loses people, and goals are not necessarily achieved.
Sometimes war is necessary. That was clearly true in Afghanistan in 2001 but less clear regarding Iraq in 2003. What are the goals? How are they to be gained? In what way can a war be brought to an end? How is victory defined? These are all serious issues.
Regarding a war with Iran, all of the above is especially true. Iran is a large country with almost 80 million people. A sizeable portion of that population-the ones with the guns--is ideologically fanatical. The idea that a few planes will drop bombs, return home, and victory can then be declared is naïve. Once begun, such a conflict will go on for many years and take unexpected turns. Iran's regime would become desperate, vengeful, and concluding it had nothing to lose would be all the more determined to obtain nuclear weapons and far more likely to use them. Understanding that factor might not deter an attack completely but it should be very much taken into consideration in assessing what to do. At any rate, while war with Iran might be eventually inevitable and necessary that's not true at this moment, when Iran is far from being able to build nuclear weapons, much less deliver them on missiles. And such an operation genuinely does pose serious problems for Israel and also, even if it does not participate directly in any way, for the United States.
On the positive side, not a single Arab state would lift a finger to help Iran. The moderates would be happy that Israel bombed Iranian nuclear facilities, hope it succeeded, and demand that the United States keep them out of any fighting. The radical Sunni Islamists would worry about the precedent and make some propaganda but view the Iranian regime as a rival, not a brother. The Turkish regime would foam at the mouth but do nothing while the Syrian regime, allied with Iran, is too preoccupied by a civil war and fears confrontation with Israel.
Hamas is happy to take Iran's money but is now pretty much a client of Egypt. It might want to start its own war with Israel but doesn't want to risk everything to defend Iran. But the Palestinian Resistance Committees and Palestinian Islamic Jihad will fire rockets on Israel while trying to attack in other ways. Up to a point, Hamas will stand aside and let them do so. The most serious organized force on which Iran could depend would be Hizballah in Lebanon.
It is likely that Hizballah would fire rockets against Israel and mount some cross-border raids. The question is whether Hizballah would mount an all-out campaign as in 2006 or merely stick to a symbolic demonstration of loyalty to Iran. There are also Iranian forces in Lebanon that would be more energetic.
The large UNIFIL force supposed to block Hizballah from staging a military build-up in the south and attacking Israel will be useless. Yet Israeli defensive operations could end up accidentally killing UNFIL soldiers.
Finally, Iranian assets would stage terrorist attacks on Israelis and Jews all over the world. The number of attacks might be limited. The question is whether one or some would succeed in inflicting lots of casualties.
Still, Hizballah plus terror attacks is not a price too high for Israel to pay for ending-if that indeed can be accomplished-an Iranian nuclear threat. Yet the picture on the U.S. side is much more complex and worrisome.
In two ways, the U.S. situation would resemble that of Israel. No country other than Iran would hit at America or Americans; terrorism would be a problem. The rest of the story would depend on decisions made by Iran's government and also by its local commanders.
Ostensibly, the attack on Iran would come from Israel. But even if the United States does nothing overt, Obama's AIPAC speech is enough to associate America with the operation. Iran has some choice. It could decide to try to avoid confrontation with the United States.
Still, while Tehran's decision could go either way, the worldview of that country's rulers is unlikely to make a calm, cool assessment along those lines. For them, America is the Great Satan, the Islamist revolution's nemesis and Israel's patron. Would Iran's leaders really say: Yes, let's be "smart" and keep the battle confined to Israel, using American reluctance to fight as a way to keep that superpower out of the war?
Again, that might be how Western armchair strategists expect Iran to act but it's hard to believe that's what would happen. Moreover, local commanders of either military and naval units or terrorist cells, irrationally confident of an Allah-granted victory, would not easily give up a chance to wage the ultimate Jihad. Then, too, Iran's inability to hit Israel would set off frustration leading to attacks on Americans.
U.S. forces and facilities are more accessible than those of Israel. This could include terrorist attacks in Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the smaller Gulf Arab states against any available American civilians, institutions, or soldiers. And the biggest front of all might be the Persian Gulf itself. Would small Iranian boats stage suicide operations to hit tankers or try to block traffic?
As happened in the latter phase of the Iran-Iraq war in the late 1980s, the Gulf Arab states would likely ask the United States, European countries, and NATO to convoy their tankers. A shooting war could lead to the dragging of the United States into a military conflict with Iran. Whatever happened on the ground (and water) the price of oil would skyrocket.
These factors also affect Israeli interests since that country would be blamed for resulting carnage and disruptions. Antisemitism would increase and a lot of people would claim that Israel dragged America into an unnecessary war. Promises of quick, easy victory, the disappearance of any Iranian nuclear capability or threat, and even the fall of the Iranian regime would prove false, stirring bitter controversy.
There are, then, major dangers and real strategic problems in any campaign to attack Iranian nuclear installations that require serious thought and a rejection of recklessness. A war with Iran, if conducted at all, should only happen when it seems otherwise unavoidable. And that is far from true this year.
But that day will come and people better be psychologically ready for it.

Finally the truth comes out: CBO proves Obama and Democrats lied about the cost of Obamacare
Mar 15, 2012 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
What was abundantly clear about Obamacare's real costs, to those of us who formed the TEA party movement to fight it, has now been certified by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
The lies and smug grins from the Democrats who forced Obamacare down our throats would be wiped away if we had an honest media - which of course we do not.
The CBO is saying the cost of Obamacare will be nearly double the fairytale lying Democrats told us it would be two years ago.
Coming on the heels of its recent report contradicting Obama's lies about the unemployment numbers (when Obama was lying that unemployment was 8.3% CBO reported it is 15%,) this new burst of honesty from any government agency under Obama is indeed refreshing.
The CBO now projects the Democrats' Frankenstein monster will cost $1.76 TRILLION of our tax dollars over the next ten years (and do you ... Continue Reading:Finally the truth comes out: CBO proves Obama and Democrats lied about the cost of Obamacare

"You can take an idiot out of Chicago, but you can't take the Chicago out of an idiot!"

By Suzanne Eovaldi, staff writer
When I read about a fight in the elite seating section at the Chicago Symphony, I scrolled down to the comments and began laughing hysterically.
To get an insight into how Chicago rolls, read the whole thing, and maybe you'll understand a little bit of what one commenter meant when he said, "You can take an idiot out of Chicago, but you can't take the Chicago out of an idiot!"
It seems a 30 something male punched out a 67 year old male while Maestro Riccardo Muti had nearly finished the second movement of the Brahms Symphony. When the esteemed conductor gave the two men a "sharp irritated look" but continued on with the third movement, one commenter wryly said, "The performers are used to looking over their left shoulder, continuing on and saying, hmmmmm yeah-We are in Chicago-happens all the time."
This reminded me of what I did once ... Continue Reading:"You can take an idiot out of Chicago, but you can't take the Chicago out of an idiot!"

News from The Hill:
CBO: Health law could cause as many as 20 million to lose employer coverage By Julian Pecquet
As many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-provided coverage because of President Obama's healthcare reform law, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said in a new report Thursday.
The figure represents the worst-case scenario, CBO says, and the law could just as well increase employer coverage by 3 million people in 2019.
The best estimate, subject to a "tremendous amount of uncertainty," is that about 3 million to 5 million fewer people will obtain coverage through their employer each year from 2019 through 2022.
The new report adds more detail to this week's update of the law's coverage provisions, which CBO released Tuesday. Compared to a year ago, the law is now anticipated to cover two million fewer people but cost $50 billion less over 10 years, after factoring penalties paid by individuals and businesses that don't get or provide healthcare coverage.
Republicans immediately pounced after the new numbers came out because they appear to violate Obama's pledge that people who like their health plans will be able to keep them. Last year, CBO's best estimate was that only one million people would lose employer-sponsored coverage.

Alexander's Essay - March 15, 2012
Republicans Join Democrats Supporting Colossal Tax Increase
Lamar Alexander and Dick Durbin, the Tax Tag Team
"Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenues and taxation. It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without tribute." --Thomas Paine (Rights of Man, 1791)
"Fairness"?
Under cover of the Republican Presidential Primary debates about how to defeat Barack Hussein Obama's socialist agenda and his plan to fund the final chapter of that agenda with enormous tax increases, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN, no relation!) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) have teamed up to promote one of the largest tax increases in U.S. history -- a heavy levy on all Internet sales.
The so-called "Marketplace Fairness Act" S. 1832 was first proposed in November 2011 by Sen. Michael Enzi (R-WY), and now awaits action in the Committee on Finance. (And you thought all that "fairness" rhetoric was limited to leftists promoting Democratic Socialism.)
Some otherwise erudite conservative senators, such as my friend Bob Corker, have joined Alexander in this errant folly. They are backing the Republican version of the legislation because it is allegedly better than the Democrat version. For the record, I do not consider that to be a legitimate selling point.
Before explaining this enormous tax increase, allow me to provide some insights demonstrating how detached Lamar is from marketplace reality and how he became so disoriented.
I once admired Lamar, an affable and intelligent fellow whose successful 1979 gubernatorial campaign trademark was his folksy grassroots plaid shirt. After a couple of terms as governor, he accepted an appointment as Secretary of Education from George H.W. Bush in 1991. In that role, he unfortunately supervised the expansion of that department rather than its contraction as proposed by Bush's former boss, Ronald Reagan.
Predictably, after Lamar's move to Washington, he progressively lost touch with his grassroots base and began a slide into the mediocrity of Republican moderation -- which often renders its adherents ideologically indistinguishable from their Democrat opponents. I diagnose this condition as Chronic Potomac Fever, which infects too many well-meaning Republicans after they take up residence inside the Washington Beltway.
Post Your Opinion: What is the best way to eradicate the epidemic of Potomac Fever?
By 2002, Lamar had become a card carrying "establishment Republican." After his well-funded but narrow primary defeat of a strong conservative, Rep. Ed Bryant, Lamar went on to win the Senate seat vacated by Fred Thompson. To the detriment of conservatives and our Constitution, Lamar was elevated to Conference Chairman of the Republican Party from 2007 until 2012. However, given the influx of conservatives into the House and Senate ranks in 2010, Lamar announced his resignation, noting he was "stepping down from leadership to regain my independence."
The day after Lamar announced his support for the Internet tax, he sent me this explanation -- which aptly demonstrates just how disconnected he has become.
"This bill is about states' rights; closing tax loopholes that basically subsidize out-of-state businesses at the expense of Tennessee businesses... Today, if you buy boots from a store in Nashville, by law the store collects the sales tax you owe and sends it to the state to pay for our roads, schools and other services we ask the state to provide. But if you buy the same boots online from a company outside Tennessee, that company doesn't collect the sales tax you owe the state. ... That's not right. If businesses are going to fail or succeed, it should be based on the services they provide and the price of their products -- not on whether a company can successfully avoid collecting sales taxes that their Tennessee competitors can't get around collecting."
Memo to Lamar, et al.
I replied to his contorted and disconnected marketplace reasoning with a reality check, noting first that under our present Constitution, if I purchase a product from another state, it is NOT subject to state taxes in my state of residence unless that vendor has a retail presence in my state. That has been the standard for interstate commerce for generations, whether placing orders by mail, by phone or by Internet (Quill v. North Dakota regarding the latter).
Thus, suggesting that I "owe the state" sales tax when I purchase a product from another state is patently false. (Of course, some states endeavor to circumvent the sales tax exclusion by implementing "use taxes" -- without much success due to the ludicrous complexity requiring that citizens track and report every purchase when filing state tax returns.)
Further, it is absurd to suggest that the "boot purchase" example -- avoiding sales tax -- is the force that drives online sales. In some cases, people will go into a retail outlet, find a product they like, and then search online for a better price. I believe that is morally wrong. (And in regard to Sen. Alexander's laudable desire to support local businesses, those boots were probably made in China or India.)
The vast majority of Internet sales are driven by product, price comparison and convenience -- old-fashioned free enterprise competition -- not by short-circuiting a local vendor's sale to avoid sales tax. In fact, many items purchased on the Internet may not be available in a local market.
Post Your Opinion: What is the real motivation behind the so-called "Marketplace Fairness Act"?
As for Alexander's assertion, "If businesses are going to fail or succeed, it should ... not be on whether a company can successfully avoid collecting sales taxes that their Tennessee competitors can't get around collecting," again, this is a false premise. The shipping cost on a pair of boots purchased on the Internet is likely to be as much or more than the sales tax on the same pair of boots, if purchased locally.
Moreover, given the high price of fuel and the fact that a critical percentage of the fuel we use is imported from the Middle East, not only do Internet orders conserve fuel and preserve our environment, they promote national security.
For example, if 1,000 people in a single ZIP code place 1,000 Internet orders, the majority of those orders will be delivered by a common carrier in that ZIP code. In other words, a couple of FedEx or UPS trucks making multiple deliveries in one ZIP code is far more energy efficient than 1,000 consumers driving to multiple locations endeavoring to make those purchases.
The fact is, the Marketplace Fairness Act is really about generating billions of dollars in windfall taxes for state governments, many of which are as bloated and inefficient as the federal government and therefore just as bankrupt. If Lamar wants to implement an enormous tax increase and stifle free enterprise, then he should call it what it is, rather than obfuscate his motivation by claiming lofty rationales such as "states' rights."
The bottom line is, conservatives should opposed any tax increase, opting instead to cut federal and state government spending, most of which is not supported by the constitutions of either. Moreover, any tax increase that is not revenue neutral should be flatly rejected by even the most dullard of establishment Republicans.
In other words, if Sen. Alexander is going to support an Internet sales tax on Tennesseans in order to "level the playing field," he should also support an equal reduction in the overall rate of sales taxation to offset his tax increase.
PS: If you are curious as to why online behemoth Amazon.com supports the Internet sales tax measure, it is because Amazon already has locations in many states, meaning Amazon sales in those states are already subject to sales tax. But Amazon's support is more sinister. Determining, collecting and delivering state and local sales taxes on every purchase massively increases transactional overhead for small businesses that compete with Amazon. But Amazon is positioning itself to "rescue" those poor little businesses by processing all their transactions -- in return for substantial surcharges on the taxes collected, of course. Caveat emptor!

Election Year Math

By William Tucker
|
It'll all come down to three states that went for Obama last time.
|
If you want to know what's going to happen in the presidential race next November, just look at the above map. It shows the results of the 2004 election, won by George W. Bush with 286 electoral votes over John Kerry's 251. Although it's hard to remember now, 2004 was a breathlessly close election, particularly for an incumbent. If Ohio had gone the other way, Kerry would have won. That's why two years later Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was still in court trying to prove that Kerry had actually won Ohio and should be the President.
Now as Gerald Seib pointed out in Monday's Wall Street Journal, all those blue states that went for Kerry in 2004 are going to go for Obama again this year. The only possible exception is New Hampshire -- now the wealthiest state in the country, believe it or not -- but it has only four electoral votes. The Democratic states have lost population since 2004, so if the country split the same way today Republicans would win 291 to 246. But this also means the Democrats only need one big state - 23 electoral votes - to reach the magic number of 269.

The Consensus Wants You
While terms like "The Marketplace of Ideas" are still tossed about occasionally like confetti out of a tenth story window, they mean about as much as the soiled mass of tape that everyone has stepped on by the time the parade is over. The age of ideas, when issues might actually be debated, instead of answered immediately with talking points derived from an inflexible ideology whose only two poles are outrage and guilt, ended some time ago. Today we live in the age of consensus. The cultural elites no longer debate opposing points of view, they dismiss them as racist or ignorant, ridiculing not only the argument, but the arguer and the very premise that there can even be an argument. The "marketplace of ideas" is replaced with "I'm offended that we're even having this discussion" or "Only ignorant people believe that." These alternating poses of victimhood and superiority make it illegal or pointless to even discuss the subject and leave every issue settled by consensus. Scientific debates end before they have begun. Political debates exist only to allow candidates to affirm the consensus or castigate them for standing outside the consensus. Personal exchanges of views either reflect the consensus or become perilous and illegal. The left veers between outrage and ridicule, between cries of "I'm oppressed" and "You're an idiot". Both are wholly subjective emotion-driven perceptions that cannot be rationally debated because they do not exist in the sphere of reason. They are the root of the "I Feel" creed which follows no intellectual or moral rules, striking poses of empathy and superiority for effect. Everyone on the left is at once superior and oppressed, they are all part of the 99 percent being ground under the boot of the 1 percent, or members of minority groups oppressed by the white heteronormative patriarchy or creative people repressed by faceless corporations, and if they aren't any of those, then by virtue of their empathy they slip under the wire until like Bill Clinton, they are acknowledged as the first black president of the United States. The teenager lives the illusion of being deep in a world of shallow people, identifying with outside groups because they reflect his fantasies of alienation. Rather than empathy, this is actually a failure of empathy that time usually remedies. Time has never remedied that failure of empathy for the left, which buries itself in fantasies of victimhood, wealthy white men and women trek to the ghetto or to Africa to nourish themselves on true suffering like emotional vampires who need someone else's pain to affirm their own pain.

Side Effects: Doctors Fear Obamacare The American public doesn't support Obamacare, and a new survey shows that doctors have an even worse opinion. No one has a better grasp on the state of the health care system than physicians, and according to the Doctors Company survey, 60 percent of them believe that Obamacare will have a negative impact on overall patient care. This survey is consistent with the findings of another doctor survey taken in October 2010, which also showed doctors' lack of confidence in Obamacare. The survey was conducted to unveil physicians' concerns about health care reform. The Doctors Company, which is the largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability in the nation, received more than 5,000 surveys, including all specialties and every region in the country. The results weren't good for the President's signature piece of legislation. Not only do doctors believe that Obamacare will not improve the health care system, they also anticipate that it will worsen the current condition. According to the survey, nine out of 10 physicians are unwilling to recommend health care as a profession to a family member, and one primary care physician even commented, "I would not recommend becoming an M.D. to anyone."
Obamacare doesn't just discourage entrance into the medical profession; it encourages those who are already practicing to leave it. The survey states that "health care reform is motivating doctors to change their retirement timeline." In fact, 43 percent of respondents said they are considering retiring within the next five years as a result of the law. A surgeon from Michigan wrote that under Obamacare, "We will be moving further away from humanity-based health care and more towards the patient as a commodity. This was not the way my father practiced-nor will I. Winding down to retire early."

NEW RESEARCH: Retribution and Overcriminalization
From the ever-expanding number of federal criminal laws to prison sentences that are too numerous or too long, there are many promising bases for criticizing overcriminalization. One such basis, however, has yet to be fully considered: the fact that too many criminal offenses today are malum prohibitum offenses-that is, they criminalize conduct that is morally innocuous-and do not contain an adequate mens rea (criminal-intent) element. In order to limit the growth of laws criminalizing morally innocuous conduct-a development that, in turn, would curb overcriminalization-the U.S. legal community would be well-served to explore the concept of retribution and the manner in which it provides an account of how punishing those convicted of criminal offenses is morally justified. Punishment without a firm basis in retribution is unjust and therefore should be avoided. READ MORE >>

ABOUT OVERCRIMINALIZATION
|
The Heritage Foundation and a coalition of public interest legal groups are committed to reversing the troubling trend of overcriminalization, which is defined by three attributes: 1. Federalizing crime that properly belongs under state and local jurisdiction; 2. Imposing criminal penalties upon persons who acted without criminal intent (mens rea); 3. Applying criminal sanctions to conduct that historically has not been considered wrongful. This Legislative Update includes bills our researchers have identified that add or expand federal criminal offenses or penalties, but it generally does NOT include bills involving drugs, firearms, or crimes of violence.

Morning Bell: A Budget to Save the American Dream
Mike Brownfield
March 15, 2012
America's fiscal condition is dauntingly dismal. The national debt is well on its way to $17 trillion, 13 million Americans are out of work, and the country is stuck in the slowest recovery in the post-war era. Despite Washington bleeding taxpayers dry with reckless overspending, the U.S. Senate has not passed a budget since nearly a year before Apple released the original iPad, leaving the country in a lurch, desperate for leadership in Congress that will bring bold changes and an end to the unconscionable pattern of spending and borrowing.
Last spring, America saw a bright spot emerge from the abyss when Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) introduced a budget resolution that confronted the twin crises of spending and debt head on. Ryan's proposal, which passed the House, was a solid step in the right direction - his budget would have gotten spending under control, repealed Obamacare, transformed Medicare, and offered a solid approach to controlling Medicaid's spiraling costs. Unfortunately, the Senate said "no," and America watched Washington get stuck in gridlock last summer, only to emerge with a half-baked deal that postponed real reform and put our national security in jeopardy.

Buck McKeon (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, says one of his top priorities is to reverse $487 billion in cuts to the Pentagon's budget that were included in last summer's deal to raise the debt ceiling. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement yesterday in opposition to Obamacare's anti-conscience mandate. In it, the bishops write that the policy represents a threat to religious freedom of "unprecedented magnitude" that must be "rejected." It has been one year since protesters in Syria first took to the streets in opposition to Basar al-Assad's regime. Since then, more than 8,000 have been killed, tens of thousands detained, others have been tortured or are missing, and a quarter million have been displaced from their homes. The world's newest country, South Sudan in Africa, is suffering tribal violence which left 200 people dead last week. A near-total lack of infrastructure and a war on its disputed border with Sudan also plague the fledgling nation. The American public doesn't support Obamacare, and a new survey shows that doctors have an even worse opinion. Read about it on The Foundry.

GRASSFIRE NATION UPDATE
An official White House web site is hosting a petition calling for Rush Limbaugh's radio show to be banned from Armed Forces Radio -- the radio network that reaches America's military worldwide. The petition claims "a moral objection to our tax dollars being used for such a purpose." Just this morning, the petition received the required 25,000 signers to warrant an "official response" from the White House to this petition. This is part of the Left's attack campaign against conservatives. They want to censor the only conservative voice on the AFR weekday lineup which includes liberal activst Ed Schultz, who called Laura Ingraham a "right-wing slut." + + Rush Banning Petition "Official" With White House As I noted, the White House-hosted petition just crossed the 25,000-signer goal and now warrants an "official response" from the White House. Meanwhile, a petition to stop this outrageous effort to silence Rush and the conservative voice on the same White House web site has just a few hundred signers. Grassfire Nation wants to change that. I want to flood the White House with tens of thousands of petitions to "Keep Rush On Armed Forces Radio" and then demand an official response from the White House. In fact, I want to get 25,000 signers in the next 48 hours to really make a statement. Please go here to sign: http://www.grassfire.com/217/petition.asp Let's be clear. Rush made a mistake. But he openly and forthrightly apologized. But that doesn't matter to the Left. They want him censored and banned from Armed Forces Radio. Thank you for taking action.

Steve Elliott, Grassfire Nation P.S. If you are military, retired military or part of a military family, please take a moment to sign. The Left is also gathering signatures from military members to strengthen their case to censor Rush. Go here:

IN THEIR BOLDEST action here yet, illegal-immigrant activists sat down and blocked traffic in front of the federal immigration office at 16th and Callowhill streets yesterday, demanding the release of a man who is in detention and chanting for their human rights. Two women were arrested when they refused to get up after being allowed to sit in the middle of 16th Street for nearly an hour, their legs crossed atop banners that read "Undocumented Unafraid" and "Coming Out of the Shadows," as traffic was diverted with about 100 supporters around them. Jessica Hyejin Lee, 20, a Bryn Mawr College junior, and Tania Chairez, 19, a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, continued pumping their fists in the air as Capt. Bill Fisher of the police Civil Affairs Unit gave them the last of three warnings. They were taken to Central Detectives, 21st and Hamilton streets, and placed in a holding cell while waiting to be processed. A detective said last night that they were expected to be charged with obstruction of the highway, a misdemeanor.

How Conservative Is Rick Santorum's Record?
Posted: 15 Mar 2012 08:44 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
Rick Santorum is regarded by many of his supporters as the "real" conservative in the GOP presidential race, and most Democrats pay him the unintended compliment of considering him an arch-conservative. Undoubtedly, Santorum is a conservative of a certain type, but how far to the right was his voting record during the three terms he spent in the United States Senate?
To answer this question, I went to the American Conservative Union's ratings archive for 2006, Santorum's last year as a senator, and looked up the lifetime ratings of those who were in the Senate at that time. One could debate voting records endlessly, but most observers consider the ACU's ratings to be a reliable and objective index of where a senator or congressman fits on the political spectrum.
In 2006, there were 50 Republican senators. (Jumping Jim Jeffords switched parties somewhere in that time frame; I counted him as a Democrat. The ladies from Maine, of course, counted as Republicans.) Santorum's lifetime ACU rating as of 2006 was 88.1. That is a pretty good rating, but Santorum was not one of the most conservative senators. On the contrary: while 20 Republicans had voting records that the ACU rated as more liberal than Santorum's, 26 had voting records that were more conservative. Four Republican senators had ratings with one percent of Santorum's, which I regarded as equivalent.
Thus, by this measure, Santorum was actually in the more moderate half of Republican senators during his years in that body. Bob Dole had a more conservative lifetime voting record; so did Trent Lott, John Sununu, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, and Orrin Hatch, who is now facing a Tea Party challenge in Utah. Bill Frist, not generally known as a fire-eater, had a record almost exactly as conservative as Santorum's, at 87.8.
The explanation for these numbers is evident: while Santorum was a reliably conservative senator on social issues, he was not very conservative, for a Republican, on economic and fiscal issues. All of the four remaining contenders in the GOP presidential field are conservatives, but they are conservatives of different stripes. It is not accurate to describe Santorum as the most conservative of the four, or as the only "real" conservative in the group.

Mitch McConnell: Man with a plan
Posted: 15 Mar 2012 08:12 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
At the AIPAC policy conference last week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gave a serious, substantive, unflashy, stalwart speech on Iran that directly addressed the pathetic weakness radiated by the Obama administration. In every significant respect, Senator McConnell is the unObama. My attention was drawn to Senator McConnell's speech by Judith Levy, who aptly summarized it in her terrific review of the AIPAC proceedings:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) projected a powerful combination of the charmingly avuncular Southern gentleman and the butt-kicking, name-taking quiet man whom you cross at your peril. He dismissed Obama's Iran policy as flawed because of its refusal to delineate clear military consequences to Iranian provocation, and stated that if sufficient intelligence were gleaned indicating that Iran was pursuing the bomb, he would personally introduce authorization to Congress for the use of "overwhelming" military force to prevent Iran from enriching uranium to weapons-grade level. The crowd ate it up, and I confess that I'm an avid new fan.
The text of Senator McConnell's speech is here. The video is below.
Here is the part of the speech that caught Levy's attention:
In my judgment, there is broad bipartisan support for the administration's stated goal with respect to Iran, and a strong declaratory policy like this can be expected to have the support of strong majorities of both parties in Congress, and thus the solid support of the American people.
All that's been lacking until now is a clear, declaratory policy. And if the administration is reluctant for some reason to articulate it, then Congress will attempt to do it for him.
[T]onight I make the following commitment in support of the policy I have proposed: if at any time the intelligence community presents the Congress with an assessment that Iran has begun to enrich uranium to weapons grade levels, or has taken a decision to develop a nuclear weapon - consistent with protecting classified sources and methods - I will consult with the President and joint congressional leadership and introduce before the Senate an authorization for the use of military force.
This authorization, if enacted, will ensure the nation and the world that our leaders are united in confronting Iran, and will undermine the perception that the U.S. is wounded or retreating from global responsibilities.
The authority will be focused to ensure the people of Iran and the international community that our disagreement is not with the population of Iran or the Muslim world. This authorization will not prevent the administration from pursuing diplomatic measures, continued negotiations and consultation with our allies. On the contrary, it will strengthen these efforts.
This authorization will make clear that any effort by Iran or its proxy forces to retaliate against the interests of the United States whether our personnel, our bases or freedom of the seas will be met by overwhelming force.
For the U.S., this debate and ultimate passage of an authorization for the use of military force ensures that we have a coherent, unified policy toward Iran and that we not take on another military action without bipartisan support. A decision to take military action against Iran should not be taken lightly. It should have the bipartisan support of Congress.
It's a good commitment, but potential problems with it occur to me. The tortured role played by the American intelligence community in respect of Iran does not need to be revisited here - see, e.g., Michael Anton's 2010 Weekly Standard post - but it should be kept in mind. One wonders if the intelligence community can play the role envisioned by Senator McConnell in good faith. One also wonders about its capacity to play this role.
I reached out to a spokesman for Senator McConnell to ask: "Can you tell me if Senator McConnell is confident we would know when Iran is enriching to weapons grade? He implies the intelligence would be there, but is that true?"
Senator McConnell's spokesman responded: "I can say that Leader McConnell stands by the commitment he made in his speech, but we can't discuss matters related to intelligence any further than that, I'm afraid."
Whatever the problems, the commitment merits serious discussion. This is one area in which the Senate has been leading the Obama administration from the front.

Voters Are Stupid? Speak For Yourselves
Posted: 15 Mar 2012 08:00 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
A day or two ago, a Democratic pollster made news by announcing that "people"-talking about voters-"are stupid." But this is nothing new; we have noted many times over the years that the Democrats' electoral strategies are aimed more or less exclusively at the ignorant. When it comes to stupidity, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is something of a connoisseur. Yesterday she sent out the Democrats' latest appeal to the party's less-than-cerebral faithful, an attack on Mitt Romney:
Here's Mitt Romney's proposal for reducing the deficit, according to an interview he gave yesterday:
"Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that."
That's right, he said he'd get rid of Planned Parenthood - the more than 90-year-old organization that one in five American women has depended on for health care, and that for many women is their only option for cancer screenings, clinical breast exams, and critical preventive care.
Romney's people promptly pointed out that he proposed to "get rid of" federal funding for Planned Parenthood, not that he wanted to-what?-ban the organization? So the Democrats' attacks are misleading. But I am not sure that Wasserman Schultz actually intended any confusion on that point. She went on:
Apparently, we can't afford it.
Here's what he says we can afford: Protecting and expanding tax cuts for the wealthy, and "that includes the top 1 percent." ...
Mitt Romney's actually willing to cut off women's access to health care to help fund tax benefits for millionaires and billionaires.
There's one thing you can do right now - whether you're a man or woman - to fight back against Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and every Republican in Congress who repeatedly thinks a woman's health is their chip to barter:
That "one thing," of course, is to give money to the Democrats. Actually, Democratic voters could cut out the middle man and give the money to Planned Parenthood, but Wasserman Schultz apparently believes they aren't smart enough to figure that out. She is probably right.

Grand Mufti Calls For Destruction of Churches
Posted: 15 Mar 2012 07:33 AM PDT
(John Hinderaker)
You probably won't read about this anywhere else, but the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia has proclaimed that all churches in the Arabian Peninsula must be destroyed. Raymond Ibrahim reports:
According to several Arabic news sources, last Monday, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, declared that it is "necessary to destroy all the churches of the region."
The Grand Mufti made his assertion in response to a question posed by a delegation from Kuwait: a Kuwaiti parliament member recently called for the "removal" of churches (he later "clarified" by saying he merely meant that no churches should be built in Kuwait), and the delegation wanted to confirm Sharia's position on churches.
Accordingly, the Grand Mufti "stressed that Kuwait was a part of the Arabian Peninsula, and therefore it is necessary to destroy all churches in it."
As with many grand muftis before him, the Sheikh based his proclamation on the famous tradition, or hadith, wherein the prophet of Islam declared on his deathbed that "There are not to be two religions in the [Arabian] Peninsula," which has always been interpreted to mean that only Islam can be practiced in the region.
This is an authoritative pronouncement, as Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah is "the Grand Mufti of the nation that brought Islam to the world. Moreover, he is the President of the Supreme Council of Ulema [Islamic scholars] and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Scientific Research and Issuing of Fatwas." That last title sounds like a joke; unfortunately, it isn't.
Ibrahim points out the broader significance of the Grand Mufti's reliance on a hadith, i.e., a statement or action by the Prophet Muhammad:
Likewise, consider the significance of the Grand Mufti's rationale for destroying churches: it is simply based on a hadith. But when non-Muslims evoke hadiths-this one or the countless others that incite violence and intolerance against the "infidel"-they are accused of being "Islamophobes," of intentionally slandering and misrepresenting Islam, of being obstacles on the road to "dialogue," and so forth.
I don't suppose there are any churches left in Saudi Arabia. It occurred to me to wonder how many churches there are in Kuwait; according to this Catholic site, around 12% of the population is Christian, and there are a number of Catholic and Protestant churches. It will be interesting to see whether they come under attack, and if so, whether the destruction of churches will be reported on.

When mom goes viral
Posted: 15 Mar 2012 04:28 AM PDT
(Scott Johnson)
Marilyn Hagerty is the long-time columnist for the Grand Forks Herald. She is still going strong way past retirement age. Indeed, she has just become a celebrity.
Her straightforward review of the long-awaited Olive Garden that opened in Grand Forks in February has turned her into a celebrity of squareness. The Atlantic and Gawker touted Ms. Hagerty's review. Gawker followed up with "A treasury of unironic Olive Garden reviews."
James R. Hagerty is a Wall Street Journal reporter and somewhat unironic as well. His unironic love of his mom shines through his page-one story: "When mom goes viral." Hagerty observes of his mom: "She didn't worry about how her story would play on Gawker, partly because she had never heard of Gawker."
The Herald has taken a step back to comment on Ms. Hagerty's sudden renown. Ryan Bakken reports with some pride: "Marilyn Hagerty takes America by viral storm." Bakken quotes Ms. Hagerty: "I don't get it. I've been doing this for 30 to 40 years. Why all of a sudden now?"
Emily Esfahani Smith took a stab at answering the question in "Why do some things go viral, others not?" Best of all, the Weekly Standard's Claudia Anderson stepped forward to testify:
There might seem little left to add after the front-page story in today's Wall Street Journal by Marilyn's son, James R. Hagerty, a 30-year veteran of the WSJ and the International Herald Tribune in Hong Kong, London, Brussels, Paris, Atlanta, New York, and now Pittsburgh. His piece about his suddenly celebrated mother stresses substance - her work ethic (at 85, she writes five pieces a week for the Grand Forks Herald, the daily long edited by her late husband), her good cheer in the face of swinish condescension, and her flair for human interest stories like those collected in Echoes, still available on Amazon [Note: Not anymore]. The unstated subtext: It was no simpleton who raised this reporter.
Partaking of the family modesty, James Hagerty omitted mention of his accomplished sisters, both lawyers. Gail, a mother of three, is presiding judge of the state district court in Bismarck. She's married to a justice of the North Dakota supreme court.
Their sister Carol, my friend for 35 years, had an adventurous legal career in Washington, D.C., Tokyo, and Denver before marrying a rancher and continuing her practice from the family place on the South Platte River. In her forties, she gave birth to a son and twin daughters. Carol died last December, after a rapid decline from ALS. Here's the column Marilyn Hagerty wrote after her daughter's death. It may convey why so many of us cherish her as gallant and wise.
There is a joke here, alright, but it's not on Marilyn Hagerty.

The Worst Economic Recovery Since the Great Depression
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published March 14, 2012 on The American Spectator website. The record of President Obama's first three years in office is in, and nothing that happens now can go back and change that. What that record shows is that President Obama, with his throwback, old-fashioned, 1970s Keynesian economics, has put America through the worst recovery from a recession since the Great Depression. The American people are much poorer now because of that, and will remain poorer, falling farther and farther behind, until we change course and restore traditional American prosperity. The recession started in December, 2007. Go to the website of the National Bureau of Economic Research to see the complete history of America's recessions. What that history shows is that before this last recession, since the Great Depression recessions in America have lasted an average of 10 months, with the longest previously lasting 16 months. Dude, Where's My Recovery? Yes, the economy was in recession when President Obama entered office, which he never tires of telling us. But that was not unique to Obama. There have been 12 recessions in America since the Great Depression. The American people have forgotten what that was like because President Reagan and his Reaganite Republicans gave us a 25 year economic boom from 1982 to 2007 with no serious downturn.

Compliant Americans
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published March 14, 2012 on Townhall.com. Last month, at a Raeford, N.C., elementary school, a teacher confiscated the lunch of a 5-year-old girl because it didn't meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines and therefore was deemed nonnutritious. She replaced it with school cafeteria chicken nuggets. The girl's home-prepared lunch was nutritious; it consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, potato chips, a banana and apple juice. But whether her lunch was nutritious or not is not the issue. The issue is governmental usurpation of parental authority. In a number of states, pregnant teenage girls may be given abortions without the notification or the permission of parents. The issue is neither abortion nor whether a pregnant teenager should have an abortion. The issue is this: What gives the government the authority to usurp parental authority? Part of the problem is that people who act as instruments of government do not pay a personal price for usurping parental authority. The reason is Americans, unlike Americans of yesteryear, have become timid and, as such, come to accept all manner of intrusive governmental acts. Can you imagine what a rugged American, such as one portrayed by John Wayne, would have done to a government tyrant who confiscated his daughter's lunch or facilitated her abortion without his permission?ad.

Voter ID Insanity at DOJ Going to the United Nations
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published March 13, 2012 on The Daily Caller website. The far left is making an unprecedented two-track move to derail states' efforts to protect the integrity of the ballot box for this November's elections. While the Department of Justice (DOJ) is blocking state efforts, liberal activists are taking this issue to the United Nations Human Rights Council. Attorney General Eric Holder is invoking Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). He claims it gives him the power to block Texas's voter ID law, which simply requires that voters show that they are who they say they are before they cast a vote to influence an election outcome. This is the same argument Holder made to block South Carolina's voter ID law, a move that has landed him in federal court. Section 5 of the VRA was designed to give the DOJ oversight of southern states where there was widespread voter suppression a half century ago. The Supreme Court upheld the law in 1966, ruling that it was authorized by the Fifteenth Amendment, but only because of the extraordinary racial tensions at the time. The court noted that Section 5 would not be constitutional once American society had progressed beyond such struggles.

Sandra Fluke can't afford contraception, but expensive trips to Europe... not a problem!
Remember that liberal women's group we talked about a few days back? The group that is boycotting sex to bring light to the need for "access" to contraception? As I pointed out in that post, that group of women are also planning a ritzy trip to Europe this year.
Estimated cost: $8,000-$10,000. (It's always better to prepare for more and be delighted if you spend less.) Deposits for all hotels and vehicles due by Feb. 15th. You are responsible for making your own air reservations. We will try to find good flights that you can all take together. If you find great fares somewhere, please let us know.
So much for not being able to afford or "access" birth control, eh? They're not alone, either. Turns out Sandra Fluke, the law student who claimed contraception was breaking the bank, is also a fan of trips to Europe. Via Gateway Pundit.
