VIDEO :: Prime Minister Netanyahu Addresses AIPAC 2012

Dear Supporters of Jerusalem,

We thought you would be interested in this important speech delivered last night by Prime Minister Netanyahu at the AIPAC Conference in Washington DC. In it, the Prime Minister explains why the world cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons and that the Jewish State reserves the right to defend itself against enemies who seek her annihilation.

Kareem ShoraArif Alikhan
    Kareem Shora         Arif Alikhan

Well, boys and girls, today the fox is guarding the hen house. The wolves will be herding the sheep!

Obama appointed two devout Muslims to homeland security posts.

Obama and Janet Napolitano appointed Arif Alikhan, a devout Muslim, as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development. DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swore-in Kareem Shora, a devout Muslim, who was born in Damascus, Syria, as ADC National Executive Director as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).

NOTE: Has anyone ever heard a new government official being identified as a 'devout Catholic," a "devout Jew" or a "devout Protestant"...?
Just wondering.

Devout Muslims being appointed to critical Homeland Security positions?
Doesn't this make you feel safer already?? That should make our homeland much safer, huh!?    Wasn't it "devout Muslim men" who flew planes into U.S. buildings 10 years ago? Wasn't it a "devout Muslim man" who killed 13 at Fort Hood ?

Please forward this important information to any who cares about the future of our Country.

The Friday Keynote Speaker is Fox News' Senior Political Analyst Britt Hume. Other notable speakers include Senator Pat Toomey, Herman Cain and Grover Nordquist.

The PA Coalition is once again well represented with several members on the speaking docket including our Director of Health Care Reform, Dr. Nick Pandelidis who will speak concerning aspects of the proposed PA Health Care Exchange and PA Coalition President Greg Wrightstone will be moderating the Energy Panel titled "Marcellus - How Shale we Proceed?"

Please stop by the PA Coalition's table at PLC to receive a free piece of Marcellus Shale and pick up literature on the PA Health Care Exchange. We are proud to be able to sponsor noted film-maker Ann McElhinney whose newest film "FrackNation" is to be release in June. This film will confront and expose the anti-Marcellus zealots and neo-Luddites who oppose responsible development Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale. Go to PLC to register or learn more.

Additionally, in a recent email, we regretfully omitted listing a free market candidate who is running against Union Lackey Mark Mustio:

This event, entitled Campaign 2012: Ready, Set, Win!, will offer fellow conservatives all the latest tools to maximize success at the grassroots level and make certain that our shared goal of limiting government and restoring individual liberty is achieved this year at all levels of government.

The special guest speaker at lunch will be Erick Erickson, founder and managing Editor of Redstate.com as well as a political analyst and contributor on CNN. This event is being hosted by Veterans and Patriots United, American Majority and Heritage Action, and is co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Coalition for Responsible Government, Pittsburgh Tea Party, Washington County 9.12, Fayette Patriots, We the People (Greene County), and the South Hills 9.12 Group.

Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

Hillsdale College

The U.S. Constitution

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader.   Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

Speaker - David Baldinger
Topic Property Tax Independence Act

House Bill 1776, The Property Tax Independence Act, will be introduced shortly in the Pennsylvania house and Senate.
This bill is designed to accomplish the following:

  • Eliminate school property and local school nuisance taxes across the Commonwealth and replace those taxes with funding from a single state source.
  • Introduce a modernized school funding method that is based on 21st century economic realities.
  • ABOLISH the school property tax as well as eliminate the local school earned income tax and nuisance taxes such as the per capita and privilege-to-work taxes imposed by school districts.
  • Utilize in great measure our current sales tax mechanism to fund schools, restoring the original intent of the tax.
  • Shift school funding to a predictable and stable funding source that is tied to economic growth. This is in clear contrast to the school property tax which is not based on economic growth and is subject to much variation.
  • Address the problem of current school spending regularly exceeding tax revenue head-on by limiting school budget increases to the rate of inflation.
I know you have questions and concerns! David Baldinger will answer them at our meeting Thursday March 8, 2012. Bring a neighbor!

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.

What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.

The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.

There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.

But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.

Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.

If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.

But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.

Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.

Thanks,

John Ryan

Americans for Prosperity

hand off jy health care!March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue. As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Details can be found below.

Help Principled Candidates Win

Campaign Training Seminar

March 16-17, 2012 ~ Harrisburg, PA

Voters today - perhaps more than at any time in recent history - are yearning for principled candidates committed to standing strong for the timeless values upon which our country was founded and standing stronger against the politics-as-usual establishment working to undermine those values.

The Winning Campaigns Training Seminar shows principled candidates, campaign staff, and grassroots activists how to run winning campaigns without compromising their values - with a special emphasis placed on running and winning primaries. You'll learn:

  •   Secrets campaign pros use to develop winning strategies.
  •   How to raise all the money you need to win even if you've never raised money before.
  •   Keys to persuading voters in-person, through the mail, over the phone, and online.

Who should attend?
Current & future candidates, campaign staff and consultants, campaign volunteers, grassroots citizen activists.

What's the cost?
Nothing, it's free, but you must register in advance. A group of donors concerned about the political leadership in our state have generously underwritten the cost of the seminar.

For more information or to Pre-Register now, contact Dan Bartkowiak by calling 717-545-0600 or email dbart@pafamily.org.

Sam Rohrer Luncheon in King of Prussia

Dear Friends,

Today there's more worry about the erosion of freedom than ever, and with good reason. Obamacare, for example, is perhaps the most beligerant theft of liberty in recent history, and we're having a tough time tipping the scale back in our favor. How did this happen? We're Americans after all. We're sassy. We're bold. No one tells us what to do right? And yet, they did. With Senator Casey at his side, Barack Obama slammed the door in our faces, and laughed at our resistance there on Capitol Hill. In one fail swoop, they forced a nation into dependency. It's a critical battle and there's only one way to win it. We have to stack our team. Please bring one, two or more of your friends to meet Sam Rohrer. Once they've heard his message, they'll know, without a doubt, that Sam's the man we need on our conservative team in Washington.

Please send me an email and I'll get you plugged in. If you live near Morgantown PA, we'd love to have you make calls from our campaign headquarters. The address is 3821 Main Street, Morgantown, PA, 19543. Stop in any time or call 610-901-3392.

Our founding fathers understood that only if a nation is independent may it be free, and that the same was true of man. Too many of our elected leaders have forgotten this principle. Instead they herd us, despite protest, into the stables of dependency. I ask you to take stock of what's at stake in this election for United States Senate, and to understand that if we're going to win this struggle over freedom, we've got to stack the team in our favor. We desperately need another freedom fighter in Washington. We need Sam Rohrer.

I'll see you on the trail.

254 Days until the 2012 General Election

To Everyone Who Helped with Verify the Recall - Thank You!

Together We Conducted An Independent, Citizen-Led Audit of EPIC Scale

Proving That We the PeopleWill Stand in the Gap of Government to Uphold Election Integrity

Here's What You Accomplished IN 22 DAYS:

  • 14,000+ volunteers joined in from 49 states
  • 3.5 MILLION records were entered
  • 192.2 GB total bandwidth
  • 23,529,926 total requests
    • 481,002 were attempted threats to the site

We proved that the unions had nowhere near the 1,000,000 signatures they touted - and that of the actual signatures turned in, at least 25% and possibly up to 40%, had critical errors.

Did the unions legitimately compile the 520,000 signatures necessary to trigger a recall election? We'll let the public decide.

Our goal was neither to support or negate the outcome - our goal was to uphold the integrity of the process.

Reports will be posted online on Monday, February 27th. You can check them out here.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

John Stossel

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed," argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Campaign For Liberty

Deception, betrayal, and dishonesty.

These are not appealing traits in elected officials, but sadly, they aptly describe many Republican lawmakers across the country feverishly working to implement ObamaCare.

Would you believe that Governor Tom Corbett is among those Republicans diligently complying with ObamaCare
?

Despite the fact that Pennsylvania is party to the lawsuit being heard before the Supreme Court, Tom Corbett is implementing the law in our state.

ObamaCare requires that each state set up what is known as a Health Insurance Exchange. In theory, these exchanges will be one-stop online shops where individuals will pool together to purchase insurance.

Without a state-created exchange, the individual mandate cannot be enforced.

As in all bureaucracies, there are some major downfalls, not the least of which is the anticipated spike in the cost of insurance.

Other significant issues include:

  • The federal government will dictate what insurers may participate
  • The federal government will decide minimum coverage-potentially including such elective procedures as breast augmentation and face lifts
  • The federal government will stipulate how the exchange is run

I could go on, but I'm certain you recognize the theme. The federal government will control every aspect of our health care.

Yet, Governor Corbett claims that establishing CorbettCare will protect Pennsylvania citizens from undue federal regulation.

The opposite is actually true. Creation of the CorbettCare Exchange does great harm and forces onerous federal regulations on our state.

Governor Corbett is readily ceding state Sovereignty to the central government, and relinquishing all authority on health care matters.

Our state has already requested and accepted over $33 million to set up the exchange
!

Merely accepting and spending federal funds requires absolute obedience to federal government regulations, and the loss of state sovereignty.

A key responsibility of state officials is to protect our sovereignty, yet our legislators may be considering legislation to assist in the establishment of CorbettCare.

And like obedient little children, these turncoats expect you to forget their empty promises, ignore their campaign rhetoric, and blame the Federal Government for all of the many losses you will suffer as a result.

Click here to sign the petition demanding that the over $33 million in grant funds be returned and all contingency plans to submit to ObamaCare be abandoned immediately!

If you'd like to tell Governor Corbett how you feel about this scheme, you can reach him at 717-787-2500.

There are over 1 billion reasons why some states are establishing these exchanges-and each reason has a dollar sign attached.

With over $1 billion at stake, and more than $700 million already sent to complicit states, it's easy to understand why greedy politicians have their hands out before the court can rule.

These funds are being used all over the country to enrich political allies and the well-connected. Millions of your taxpayer dollars are being wasted, and you are footing the bill while they steal your freedoms.

Those hundreds of millions will never be returned to our treasury-unless you and I do something to force the issue now.

Tell your legislators that even if the Supreme Court fails to overturn ObamaCare, you expect them to protect your rights and jealously guard our state sovereignty by refusing to establish a state exchange.

Grassfire

Steve Elliott, Grassfire

I just got off the phone with Gary LeBlanc who heads up Mercy Chefs -- a dynamic "boots on the ground" agency that takes mobile kitchens to disaster sites and provides thousands of meals to victims and volunteers.

Gary and his team are already on the ground in West Liberty, Kentucky, where a mile-wide tornado with 140 MPH winds ripped through the town leaving a terrible path of destruction in its wake. The death toll from these tornadoes has reached 39 and Gary says that to make matters worse, the region got hit with a winter storm last night that brought snow and plummeting temperatures.

As I write, Gary and the Mercy Chefs mobile kitchen are providing hot meals to victims and volunteers in West Liberty as well as Crockett -- a neighboring community that was also totally devastated. The Mercy Chefs mobile kitchen is set up near the heart of the devastation. Entire buildings have been leveled or destroyed beyond repair, including the West Liberty High School.

Gary says Mercy Chefs provided hundreds of hot meals yesterday and will provide about 1,000 hot meals to victims and volunteers TODAY and then 1,000-1,500 meals every day this week as this community tries to cope with the disaster. In neighboring Crockett, Gary's team was met with tears from the community as Mercy Chefs were among the first to provide relief.

According to Gary, it costs about $2.50 to provide a hot meal to a victim or a volunteer. That's the raw cost. It's hard to put a value on a hot meal for a family that just lost a home or for a volunteer who is working to bring some semblance of relief to those who have just lost loved ones or seen their lives devastated.

I told Gary I would get the word out to some Grassfire friends.

This is an opportunity to help in a practical way TODAY. It costs just $10 to provide a hot meal to a family of four; $30 to feed 12 people TODAY in West Liberty; $50 to feed 20 people; $100 to feed 40 people. Here is a link directly to Mercy Chefs' donation page where you can contribute.

Mercy Chefs has already served over 200,000 meals in places like Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, New York, Arkansas and Alabama. Your gift is fully tax-deductible and since I know Gary personally I'm confident that Mercy Chefs will put your gift to work to help provide hot meals to victims and volunteers in West Liberty starting immediately.

Thanks for your consideration,

Steve Elliott

P.S. Again, Gary and his Mercy Chefs is already feeding families today in Kentucky. It costs just $2.50 to serve a hot meal to a victim or volunteer. Please help as you can. We are directing you straight to Mercy Chefs' donation page to help expedite the process:

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For March 7, 2012

1. The Nominee

Many political analysts compare 2012?s Republican Presidential cycle to the Democrats' go of it in 2008. Barack Obama deployed a delegate strategy while Hillary Clinton went for big state wins. It worked to Barack Obama's favor. This year, it works for Romney.

Both took a while and had some ups and downs, but ultimately Barack Obama prevailed. After Ohio came in tonight, it is clear Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee if Newt Gingrich stays in the race. Gingrich is now only serving as a spoiler to Santorum.

The big difference between 2008 and 2012 is that in 2008, David beat Goliath. The base of the party rallied to the David who took out the machine no one thought could be taken out. In 2012, Goliath is beating David and no one ever really cheers for Goliath.

2. Super Tuesday: Romney and Santorum Limp Along, Tea Party Claims First Scalp

Romney wins OH, VA, MA, VT, and ID; Gingrich wins GA; Santorum wins OK, TN, and ND. Alaska is still pending.

According to exit polls, 50% of Massachusetts voters feel that Romneycare went too far.

3. Silencing the Right

Last week, Rush Limbaugh suggested Sandra Fluke was a slut. The left immediately began calling for boycotts of his advertisers. He apologized on Saturday. Fluke refused to accept his apology claiming he did it under duress and the pressure has kept up.

It is organized and it has nothing to do with Limbaugh referring to Sandra Fluke as the same thing Ed Schultz referred to Laura Ingraham as. It has to do with a well executed PR strategy to frame a debate on mandating Americans subsidize the sexual habits of women as a war on women by the GOP. The media, which leans left already on social issues, would much rather focus on Rush Limbaugh than on the left's PR strategy and Sandra Fluke's own testimony.

What is happening here is an organized campaign by the left to shut down opposing views from the right. Much of this has to do with the right's overall success in the past several decades. As more Americans consider themselves pro-life, even California constitutionally banned gay marriage, and most Americans agree with the right on mandates and global warming, the left has resorted to a new tactic - dialing up the outrage to shut up the right.

Many on the left and right, myself included, have said things we should not have said. The difference is that the left seizes on the statements made by the right as excuses to demand they never be heard from again and are unqualified to speak on any topic. They harass advertisers. They harass networks. They harass the conservative who said what it was as well. Any unforced error is seized to shut down the right in a way that does not apply to the left. If at first they are not successful, they will work to compound the story, manufacture outrage, and seize on statements and twist words to build a case against the conservative in question that they should be shut up and turned off.

Rarely do people on the right operate in the same aggressive way against the left.

4. Yet Another Obama Administration Aviation Security Failure

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano has failed us again. Her hostility to allowing pilots to be armed against terrorists is going to make our nation less safe. On Monday, Napolitano's vision for a "risk based" security system failed to keep a box cutter off a commercial aircraft in Houston.

Secretary Napolitano said recently at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing that she is proposing a 50% cut in funding for the Federal Flight Deck Officer's program (FFDO), also known as the armed pilots program, because "the program is not risk based." Yet her Transportation Security Administration failed to detect a box cutter that ended up on a flight in Houston, Texas this past Monday. This is further evidence that President Obama's and Secretary Napolitano's plan to terminate the FFDO program is an aviation security mistake.

  • As the Obama administration reels from the backlash against the anti-conscience mandate packaged inside Obamacare, Vice President Joe Biden told a crowd last week at the University of Iowa that the Administration has a "new" version of the mandate that respects religion. Unfortunately, that version is neither "new" nor respectful of religious liberty. To set the record straight, The Heritage Foundation's Sarah Torre and Brandon Stewart have put together a point-counterpoint response to the Vice President's remarks. Watch the video on myHeritage.
  • President Obama's budget includes $2 trillion in tax hikes over the next decade, more than $400 billion more than previously reported, according to a new Heritage Foundation analysis. In addition to allowing the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts to expire, raising taxes on job creators and taxing the energy industry, there are $128 billion in new taxes that the media and White House neglected to report on, according to Heritage tax expert Curtis Dubay. That brings the total increase to $1.689 trillion over ten years. Heritage's Brownfield explains how the tax increases were hidden on myHeritage
  • The conservative movement lost two titans last week: media titan Andrew Breitbart and intellectual James Q. Wilson. Breitbart, who passed away Thursday, "took on the entrenched powers of liberalism in this country, whether they were in the media, academia, unions or elsewhere, with a zest that was infectious," Heritage President Ed Feulner writes. Read more memories from Heritage staff on The Foundry. Wilson "had a major influence on the modernization of policing in our nation and was also one of the most profound writers on moral philosophy," remembers Heritage legal scholar Ed Meese. Feulner agrees: "He was a political philosopher with a deep understanding of the forces that have made America a unique democracy."

The 'Jewish' President

Don't believe Obama when he says he has Israel's back.

By BRET STEPHENS

Should Israelis and pro-Israel Americans take President Obama at his word when he says-as he did at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference in Washington, D.C., on Sunday-"I have Israel's back"?

No.

Here is a president who fought tooth-and-nail against the very sanctions on Iran for which he now seeks to reap political credit. He inherited from the Bush administration the security assistance to Israel he now advertises as proof of his "unprecedented" commitment to the Jewish state. His defense secretary has repeatedly cast doubt on the efficacy of a U.S. military option against Iran even as the president insists it remains "on the table." His top national security advisers keep warning Israel not to attack Iran even as he claims not to "presume to tell [Israeli leaders] what is best for them."

Oh, and his secretary of state answers a question from a Tunisian student about U.S. politicians courting the "Zionist lobbies" by saying that "a lot of things are said in political campaigns that should not bear a lot of attention." It seems it didn't occur to her to challenge the premise of the question.

Still, if you're looking for evidence of Mr. Obama's disingenuousness when it comes to Israel, it's worth referring to what his supporters say about him.

Consider Peter Beinart, the one-time Iraq War advocate who has reinvented himself as a liberal scourge of present-day Israel and mainstream Zionism. Mr. Beinart has a book coming out next month called "The Crisis of Zionism." Chapter five, on "The Jewish President," fully justifies the cover price.

Mr. Beinart's case is that Mr. Obama came to his views about Israel not so much from people like his friend Rashid Khalidi or his pastor Jeremiah Wright. Instead, says Mr. Beinart, Mr. Obama got his education about Israel from a coterie of far-left Chicago Jews who "bred in Obama a specific, and subversive, vision of American Jewish identity and of the Jewish state."

At the center of this coterie, Mr. Beinart explains, was a Chicago rabbi named Arnold Jacob Wolf. In 1969, Wolf staged a synagogue protest in favor of Black Panther Bobby Seale. In the early 1970s, he founded an organization that met with Yasser Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization-this being some 20 years before Arafat officially renounced terrorism. In the early 1990s, Wolf denounced the construction of the Holocaust Museum in Washington.

And, in 1996, the rabbi "was one of [Mr. Obama's] earliest and most prominent supporters" when he ran for the Illinois state Senate. Wolf later described Mr. Obama's views on Israel as "on the line of Peace Now"-an organization with a long history of blaming Israel for the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Mr. Obama had other Jewish mentors, too, according to Mr. Beinart. One was Bettylu Saltzman, whose father, developer Philip Klutznick, had joined Wolf in "his break with the Israeli government in the 1970s." Ms. Saltzman, writes Mr. Beinart, "still seethes with hostility toward the mainstream Jewish groups" and later became active in left-wing Jewish political groups like J Street. Among other things, it was she who "organized the rally against the Iraq War where Obama proclaimed his opposition to an American invasion."

Ms. Saltzman also introduced Mr. Obama to David Axelrod, himself a longtime donor to a group called the New Israel Fund. For a flavor of the NIF's world view, a WikiLeaks cable from 2010 noted that an NIF associate director told U.S. embassy officials in Tel Aviv that "the disappearance of a Jewish state would not be the tragedy that Israelis fear since it would become more democratic."

Other things that we learn about Mr. Obama's intellectual pedigree from Mr. Beinart: As a student at Columbia, he honed his interests in colonialism by studying with the late pro-Palestinian agit-Prof. Edward Said. In 2004, Mr. Obama "criticized the barrier built to separate Israel and its major settlements from the rest of the West Bank"-the "barrier" meaning the security fence that all-but eliminated the wave of suicide bombings that took 1,000 lives in Israel.

We also learn that, according to one of Mr. Beinart's sources, longtime diplomat Dennis Ross was brought aboard the Obama campaign as part of what Mr. Beinart calls "Obama's inoculation strategy" to mollify Jewish voters apprehensive about the sincerity of his commitments to Israel. Not surprisingly, Mr. Ross was a marginal figure in the administration before leaving last year.

In Mr. Beinart's telling, all this is evidence that Mr. Obama is in tune with the authentic views of the American Jewish community when it comes to Israel, but that he's out of step with Jewish organizational leadership. Maybe. Still, one wonders why organizations more in tune with those "real" views rarely seem to find much of a base.

But the important question here isn't about American-Jewish attitudes toward Israel. It's about the president's honesty. Is he being truthful when he represents himself as a mainstream friend of Israel-or is he just holding his tongue and biding his time? On the evidence of Mr. Beinart's sympathetic book, Mr. Obama's speech at Aipac was one long exercise in political cynicism.

Why Israel Has Doubts About Obama

Even Democrats have publicly questioned U.S. statements and policies toward America's most important Mideast ally.

By DAN SENOR

'I try not to pat myself too much on the back," President Barack Obama immodestly told a group of Jewish donors last October, "but this administration has done more in terms of the security of the state of Israel than any previous administration."

Mr. Obama struck a similar tone at the annual policy conference of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) in Washington Sunday, assuring the group that "I have Israel's back." And it's little wonder why. Monday he meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid growing concern that a military strike will be necessary to end Iran's nuclear weapons program. He also knows that he lost a portion of the Jewish vote when he publicly pressured Israel to commence negotiations with the Palestinians based on the 1967 borders with land swaps. With the election nine months away, he's scrambling to win back Jewish voters and donors.

It is true that there has been increased U.S. funding for Israeli defense programs, the bulk of which comes from Mr. Obama maintaining a 10-year commitment made by President George W. Bush to Israel's government in 2007.

But a key element of Israel's security is deterrence. That deterrence rests on many parts, including the perception among its adversaries that Israel will defend itself, and that if Israel must take action America will stand by Israel. Now consider how Israel's adversaries must view this deterrence capability in recent months:

October 2011: Speaking to reporters traveling with him to Israel, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta raised provocative questions about Israel. "Is it enough to maintain a military edge if you're isolating yourself in the diplomatic arena?"

This characterization of self-created isolation surprised Israeli officials. After all, for almost three years President Obama had pressured Israel to make unilateral concessions in the peace process. And his administration had publicly confronted Israel's leaders, making unprecedented demands for a complete settlement freeze-which Israel met in 2010.

The president's stern lectures to Israel's leaders were delivered repeatedly and very publicly at the United Nations, in Egypt and Turkey, all while he did not make a single visit to Israel to express solidarity. Thus, having helped foment an image of Israeli obstinacy, the Obama administration was now using this image of isolation against Israel's government. Mr. Panetta's criticism was promptly endorsed by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a harsh critic of Israel, who said Mr. Panetta was "correct in his assumptions." Indeed, almost every time the Obama administration has scolded Israel, the charges have been repeated by Turkish officials.

November 2011: In advance of meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Mr. Panetta publicly previewed his message. He would warn Mr. Barak against a military strike on Iran's nuclear program: "There are going to be economic consequences . . . that could impact not just on our economy but the world economy." Even if the administration felt compelled to deliver this message privately, why undercut the perception of U.S.-Israel unity on the military option?

That same month, an open microphone caught part of a private conversation between Mr. Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Mr. Sarkozy said of Israel's premier, "I can't stand Netanyahu. He's a liar." Rather than defend Israel's back, Mr. Obama piled on: "You're tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day."

December 2011: Again undercutting the credibility of the Israeli military option, Mr. Panetta used a high-profile speech to challenge the idea that an Israeli strike could eliminate or substantially delay Iran's nuclear program, and he warned that "the United States would obviously be blamed."

Mr. Panetta also addressed the Israeli-Palestinian peace process by lecturing Israel to "just get to the damn table." This, despite the fact that Israel had been actively pursuing direct negotiations with the Palestinians, only to watch the Palestinian president abandon talks and unilaterally pursue statehood at the U.N. The Obama team thought the problem was with Israel?

January 2012: In an interview, Mr. Obama referred to Prime Minister Erdogan as one of the five world leaders with whom he has developed "bonds of trust." According to Mr. Obama, these bonds have "allowed us to execute effective diplomacy." The Turkish government had earlier sanctioned a six-ship flotilla to penetrate Israel's naval blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza. Mr. Erdogan had said that Israel's defensive response was "cause for war."

February 2012: At a conference in Tunis, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked about Mr. Obama pandering to "Zionist lobbies." She acknowledged that it was "a fair question" and went on to explain that during an election season "there are comments made that certainly don't reflect our foreign policy."

In an interview last week with the Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, Mr. Obama dismissed domestic critics of his Israel policy as "a set of political actors who want to see if they can drive a wedge . . . between Barack Obama and the Jewish American vote." But what's glaring is how many of these criticisms have been leveled by Democrats.

Last December, New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez lambasted administration officials at a Foreign Relations Committee hearing. He had proposed sanctions on Iran's central bank and the administration was hurling a range of objections. "Published reports say we have about a year," said Mr. Menendez. "So I find it pretty outrageous that when the clock is ticking . . . you come here and say what you say."

Also last year, a number of leading Democrats, including Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Steny Hoyer, felt compelled to speak out in response to Mr. Obama's proposal for Israel to return to its indefensible pre-1967 borders. Rep. Eliot Engel told CNN that "for the president to emphasize that . . . was a very big mistake."

In April 2010, 38 Democratic senators signed a critical letter to Secretary Clinton following the administration's public (and private) dressing down of the Israeli government.

Sen. Charles Schumer used even stronger language in 2010 when he responded to "something I have never heard before," from the Obama State Department, "which is, the relationship of Israel and the United States depends on the pace of the negotiations. That is terrible. That is a dagger."

Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-independent, said of Mr. Obama last year, "I think he's handled the relationship with Israel in a way that has encouraged Israel's enemies, and really unsettled the Israelis."

Election-year politics may bring some short-term improvements in the U.S. relationship with Israel. But there's concern that a re-elected President Obama, with no more votes or donors to court, would be even more aggressive in his one-sided approach toward Israel.

If Mr. Obama wants a pat on the back, he should make it clear that he will do everything in his power to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability, and that he will stand by Israel if it must act. He came one step closer to that stance on Sunday when he told Aipac, "Iran's leaders should have no doubt about the resolve of the United States, just as they should not doubt Israel's sovereign right to make its own decisions about what is required to meet its security needs." Let's hope this is the beginning of a policy change and not just election year rhetoric.

Mr. Senor, co-author with Saul Singer of "Start-up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle" (Twelve, 2011), served as a senior adviser to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq in 2003-04, and is currently an adviser to the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney.

A version of this article appeared Mar. 5, 2012, on page A15 in some U.S. editions of The Wall Street Journal, with the headline: Why Israel Has Doubts About Obama.

113 days and counting

While it may seem like it's way off in the future, the opening day of our 2012 National Conference and Legislative Briefing is only 113 days away.

This year's event, June 27 - 29, includes the best of our past events, such as the congressional briefing and congressional awards luncheon, with some new, exciting wrinkles. For more details on the agenda, click here.

  • We're going back to the Omni Shoreham Hotel, a beautiful and historic venue that provided service last year that attendees raved about.
  • We have a great lineup of conference speakers confirmed thus far-James Woolsey, Kenneth Timmerman, Clare Lopez, and Tawfik Hamid. Engaging speakers with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with us. (For more detail about these speakers, click here.)
  • Our Welcome Event this year includes a few surprises that, well, if we told you, they wouldn't be surprises!
  • We've added more time for attendees to get to know each other and a few sessions that we know will empower and encourage you.
  • You'll find out what we're doing "behind the scenes" to get bills passed in state legislatures. You'll get an inside, birds-eye view of how we're working the halls of Congress to advance our high priority legislation.
  • You'll learn the best tips and techniques for how to effectively persuade others about the threat of radical Islam.
We sold out last year and this year's event is definitely space limited. For instance, we can accommodate only 250 people at the congressional awards luncheon, a favorite of our conference attendees.

Don't be left out! Register here today. To book your specially discounted hotel room, call 800/843-6664 or reserve it online here

The View from a Broken Bridge

Between the modern and the post-modern worlds, peace negotiations took on the fevered air of senseless enthusiasm that was once the sole preserve of wars. Once upon a time it was treasonous to oppose wars, now it is virtually mandatory to do so. Today it is treasonous to oppose peace processes, no matter how ill-founded, how senseless and how pointless they might be. The treason is no longer toward a country, but toward an ideal.

What ideal is it that the peace process represents? The ideal that we are all basically alike, that we might speak different languages, wave different flags and have differently shaped borders, but that we are all basically alike. We all want peace and wars only happen when our jingoistic leaders mislead us into a conflict. Peace happens when ordinary people of goodwill under the leadership of a few enlightened peacemongers get together and realize how much they have in common and that any disputes they have can be settled over some coffee or tea.

No mythical ideal propounded by the postmoderns is quite as dully stupid and thoroughly delusional as this one. It is progressive in its insistence that we are all alike because we are human and that being the same means that there is no reason for conflict. Its irrational insistence that war is irrational perfectly captures the false reason of progressive paradigms which treat their own philosophical constructs as more real than reality.

We do not stand at the end of history, but we are witness to the end of the West, which remains as deeply in love with the peace process, as the members of the League of Nations, shortly before their pacifism destroyed Europe and plunged the world into the most destructive war in human history which left the winners locked in a struggle that nearly culminated in the end of life on earth.

No pacifist who ever shook his fist at the bomb ever considered the simple fact that the bomb and the Cold War would likely never have even been necessary had the much despised European imperialists done their duty after the previous world war and kept the peace with fleets and armies, rather than with empty speechifying about a new age.

China's Military Rising

In early January, President Barack Obama traveled across the Potomac River to the Pentagon and joined Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to discuss his Administration's military strategy, promising that he would keep America's fighting forces the best-trained, best-led, best-equipped military in history. Unfortunately, he's not keeping that promise, and meanwhile, China's military is growing by leaps and bounds.

China announced this week that its new defense budget would total approximately $106 billion -- an 11.2 percent increase over its previous budget. That's on top of last year's 12.7 percent increase, making China's defense spending larger than that of all other Asian nations combined. Heritage's Dean Cheng writes that those figures are "a sobering statistic when one considers that this includes the world's third-largest economy (Japan) and North and South Korea, which remain locked in a Cold War-era standoff."

Obama Dodges the Big Questions

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 12:59 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

President Obama gave his first press conference of 2012 today. Actually, he didn't dodge most of the big questions; he didn't get asked them in the first place. Not a word about the ballooning federal debt, and, remarkably, there was little or no follow-up on the economy after the president's happy-talk introductory comments. The press corps did find time, however, to ask Obama about Rush Limbaugh. To give the reporter credit, however, she did at least ask Obama about the double standard.

QUESTION: Thank you, Mr. President. Do you think Rush Limbaugh's apology to the Georgetown Law student was sufficient and heartfelt? Do you agree with the decision of the growing number of sponsors that have decided to drop his show and stop supporting his show? And has there been a double standard on this issue? Liberal commentators have made similarly provocative or distasteful statements and there hasn't been such an outrage.

OBAMA: You know I'm not going to comment on what sponsors decide to do. I'm not going to comment on either the economics or the politics of it. I don't know what's in Rush Limbaugh's heart, so I'm not going to comment on the sincerity of his apology. What I can comment on is the fact that all decent folks can agree that the remarks that were made don't have any place in the public discourse. And the reason I called Ms. Flute is because I thought about Malia and Sasha and one of the things I want them to do as they get older is to engage in issues they care about. Even ones I may not agree with them on. I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don't want them attacked or called horrible names because they're being good citizens. And I wanted Sandra to know that I thought her parents should be proud of her.

And that we want to send a message to all our young people that being part of a democracy involves arguments and disagreements and debate. And we want you to be engaged. And there's a way to do it that doesn't involve you being demeaned and insulted, particularly when you're a private citizen. Jessica Yellin?

Note that Obama simply ignored the question whether "there been a double standard on this issue [since] liberal commentators have made similarly provocative or distasteful statements and there hasn't been such an outrage." No one followed up on that point, so it was par for the course.

Ms. Hillary projects

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 11:21 AM PST

(Scott Johnson)

In his excellent Wall Street Journal column on the falsity of Obama's AIPAC speech yesterday, Bret Stephens recalls , and Secretary of State Clinton's answer to a question from a Tunisian student about U.S. politicians courting the "Zionist lobbies." Accepting the premise of the question, Ms. Hillary explained that "a lot of things are said in political campaigns that should not bear a lot of attention."

Ms. Hillary's answer may or may not bear on the positions of the GOP candidates on Iran's nuclear program, but it perfectly explains the gist of her boss's AIPAC speech. It is a campaign document, and it cannot be taken at face value.

A Rush Retrospective

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 07:52 AM PST

(John Hinderaker)

I have been meaning to write about the Rush Limbaugh kerfuffle (or fiasco, depending on your point of view) since the weekend, but haven't gotten around to it. Meanwhile, the story continued to evolve and has now more or less come to rest. I still intend to comment on it by the end of the day, but for now, this cartoon beautifully sums up one aspect of the controversy:

The Constitution and the President: A Footnote

Posted: 06 Mar 2012 05:49 AM PST

(Steven Hayward)

A few days back I dilated the point of my PIG book on modern presidents with a meditation on how deficient most presidential candidates, and the campaigns themselves, are on the Constitution, including even Ron Paul, who at least brings up the subject.  My critique of Paul is that his constitutionalism is especially narrow and too literally text-based, i.e., if he doesn't find something in the clearly enumerated powers of Congress in Article I, section 8, he thinks it is presumptively unconstitutional.  I posed the hypothetical question of how he would regard the air force: Article I, section 8 mentions armies and navies, but not an air force.  Is the air force unconstitutional?   What about NASA, which performs many defense functions?

More than one pro-Paul commenter wrote in to suggest the air force would be constitutionally permissible if it was still part of the army, as it in fact originated some decades ago.  Really?  In that case it would be a simple matter for Obama to qualify Obamacare as constitutional by the simple expedient of having Congress declare every American a member of the "army" (or perhaps use the "militia" clause of the 2nd Amendment?), and require all "army" members to purchase health insurance and extend regulation to "army" health care services.  Is this so far fetched?  President Eisenhower worried that the interstate highway project was of dubious constitutionality, which is why it was presented as a national defense measure.  Problem solved, if all you need to do is satisfy a legal requirement for a specific enumerated power.  This won't do.

Beyond the argument on specifically enumerated powers, I have yet to hear Paul rebut the liberals' favorite defense of Obamacare, which is the "necessary and proper" clause.  Liberals are invoking this clause, along with the Commerce Clause, to justify the individual mandate in Obamacare.  What are Rep. Paul's views on the necessary and proper clause?  In what ways should it be qualified and limited?

I think Chief Justice John Marshall provided the right way of thinking about the clause in connection with my hypothetical about an air force or NASA, and how to move beyond narrow text-based literalism, in the McCulloch v. Maryland decision:

Even without the aid of the general clause in the constitution, empowering congress to pass all necessary and proper laws for carrying its powers into execution, the grant of powers itself necessarily implies the grant of all usual and suitable means for the execution of the powers granted. Congress may declare war; it may consequently carry on war, by armies and navies, and other suitable means and methods of warfare. So, it has power to raise a revenue, and to apply it in the support of the government, and defence of the country; it may, of course, use all proper and suitable means, not specially prohibited, in the raising and disbursement of the revenue. And if, in the progress of society and the arts, new means arise, either of carrying on war, or of raising revenue, these new means doubtless would be properly considered as within the grant. Steam-frigates, for example, were not in the minds of those who framed the constitution, as among the means of naval warfare; but no one doubts the power of congress to use them, as means to an authorized end.

No doubt a liberal will find any use of government power to be within the necessary and proper clause, and many courts will rightly not wish to interfere with the determination of the legislative branch on its interpretation of both its enumerated powers and their extension through the necessary and proper clause.  This may include, unfortunately, Obamacare, which is why I have thought it a minor mistake to rest the case against it on the narrow grounds of whether the individual mandate violates just the Commerce Clause. This seems to be missing the forest for the trees.  How about, for starters, an argument that the entire structure of Obamacare, like most of the administrative state today, violates the constitutional principle of the separation of powers?  To be sure, the judiciary long ago gave up recognizing or defending that principle (by signing off on congressional delegation to the executive branch), which is precisely why this constitutional point requires a political rather than a legal argument from candidates and advocates of limited government.  Again, it would be interesting to hear candidates asked whether they think Obamacare (or the EPA, or . . .) violates the separation of powers.  I don't recall hearing Ron Paul mention this principle.  Likewise, I don't recall hearing Paul articulate the founders' theory of individual natural rights which is the philosophical cornerstone of the founders' constitutionalism.  For that matter, I don't recall hearing Paul mention the Declaration of Independence; I suspect he dislikes the Declaration for reasons similar to Paleocons.

Newt Gingrich embraces the Declaration and talks about reviving constitutional limits on centralized government power, but then as Jon Adler has pointed out, Newt still defends the Endangered Species Act (among other dubious things), which operates as a gross violation of the principle of the separation of powers.  The point is: fighting through the misuse of the necessary and proper clause requires recourse to older and almost forgotten constitutional principles which can only be reacquired by reviving the founders' political philosophy.  This involves intelligent discussion of the "authorized end" of government as Marshall meant it in McCulloch.  But the GOP field doesn't understand this.

Sigh.

House Bill 934 mandates voters produce photo identification issued by the federal or state government, a university or a long-term care facility before casting a ballot.

This would add a needless layer of bureaucracy!

  • Requiring IDs disenfranchises elderly, economically disadvantaged, and diverse populations.
  • Nearly one in five citizens over 65 lacks a current, government-issued photo ID.

  • Voter ID laws are expensive. With budget shortfalls already cutting numerous programs, Pennsylvania can't afford this legislation.

Is Capitalism Good for You?

Most politicians and political commentators insist this year's election rests on economic concerns, not "social values" (contraception, abortion, gay marriage, and the like). But in America's free market system, economics and values are in fact closely joined. Not only is capitalism the most successful system for generating wealth, it does so in large part by reinforcing virtues that make individuals good and societies strong: self-reliance, initiative, personal responsibility, productivity, honesty. This connection between economics and moral virtues must not be neglected.

The eminent political scientist James Q. Wilson, who died this past week, recognized that restoring faith in the fundamental morality of capitalism is essential to today's economic debate. Capitalism would survive or fail not on its material successes, but on its moral justification.

There was no dispute, Wilson wrote in "Capitalism and Morality," that capitalism produced "greater material abundance for more people than any other economic system ever invented." Furthermore, democratic governments flourish only in conjunction with capitalist societies.

Despite these achievements, the image of capitalism has long suffered from focus on its failings. Critics of capitalism see it as promoting mostly avarice and selfishness, rationalized on the grounds of material gains. One personification is the fictional character in Oliver Stone's movie Wall Street, Gordon Gekko, who believes that however unsavory the means might be, capitalism's unrivaled success in producing wealth justifies them. "Greed," as Gekko put it, "is good. Greed is right. Greed works." From this view, capitalism is at best amoral and at worst corrupting.

Wilson translated this attitude among capitalism's intellectual and academic critics as follows:
"To liberals, the failure of capitalism lies in its production of unjustifiable inequalities of wealth and its reckless destruction of the natural environment. Capitalism may produce material abundance, the argument goes, but at too high a price in human suffering and social injustice."

Many thinkers have defended the morality of capitalism, of course. As Wilson himself wrote, "the intellectual founder of capitalism, Adam Smith, was first and foremost a moral philosopher." He noted that Smith's 1759 The Theory of Moral Sentiments established the foundation for all his work, including The Wealth of Nations, 17 years later. Another example is Michael Novak, whose 1982 The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism explores in depth the philosophical underpinnings of capitalism, even arguing that in cultivating the world's resources, humans could be seen as "co-creators with God, bringing forth the potentialities the Creator has hidden."

But Wilson brought his own unique and clarifying voice to the debate. While not denying capitalism's inequities and temptations, Wilson sought to answer the charge by reiterating the system's moral virtues:

All economic systems rest on greed, but capitalism, because it depends on profit, is the one that disciplines greed. In the process of imposing that discipline, capitalism contributes to self-discipline. It encourages civility, trust, self-command, and cosmopolitanism by first making these traits useful and then making them habitual.

Capitalism also requires trust, he wrote: "In any economic system, buying and selling occurs, but voluntary buying and selling on a large scale among strangers requires confidence in fair dealing that cannot depend on one party having much detailed knowledge about the other."

Wilson's arguments are especially critical now, with confidence in American capitalism uncertain in some quarters, and a public becoming increasingly dependent on government and demanding politicians do more to manage the economy. Today, American capitalism will thrive or fail not solely on its material gains, but through a reawakening to the moral virtues inextricably linked to it.

Citizens to Protect PA Jobs

It's Time To Reform Pennsylvania's Prevailing Wage Law
Outdated Prevailing Wage Law Costs Taxpayers $2 Billion Each Year!

Pennsylvania's Prevailing Wage Law is costing taxpayers a fortune.

What is prevailing wage?

This decades-old regulation requires that workers on any taxpayer-funded construction or infrastructure improvement project that costs more than $25,000 be paid a state-determined wage rate that is often 30 percent to 75 percent higher than the market average for a given region.

The impact of these unnecessarily and artificially inflated costs puts even more stress on the already cash-strapped budgets of local governments and school districts, and on the taxpayers who support them.

How much stress exactly? Research indicates that prevailing wage laws increase the cost of construction projects by an average of 5 percent to 30 percent.

That means that each year, prevailing wage mandates cost Pennsylvanians an extra $2 billion - up to $900 a year for a family of four.

And because prevailing wage projects are so artificially expensive, many local governments just simply put off needed and routine repair work.

The state's Prevailing Wage Law is clearly in need of reform and updating.

Citizens to Protect PA Jobs supports one commonsense bill that seeks to address the prevailing wage problem. House Bill 1329 would increase the threshold for triggering the prevailing wage rate requirement from the 1961 figure of $25,000 to $185,000, a more realistic amount that reflects inflation and today's economy.

This reform is common sense. And it will end up removing a huge burden from local government and school district budgets, all while saving Pennsylvania taxpayers millions of dollars. Watch for more information soon on how you can take action to help us pass this pro-taxpayer reform bill.

Sincerely,

Citizens to Protect PA Jobs

Breitbart Vets Barack

The Breitbart Series starts out this way:

"Andrew wanted to do what the mainstream media would not. First and foremost: Andrew pledged to vet President Barack H. Obama.

Andrew did not want to re-litigate the 2008 election. Nor did he want to let Republicans off the hook. Instead, he wanted to show that the media had failed in its most basic duty: to uncover the truth, and hold those in power accountable, regardless of party.

From today through Election Day, November 6, 2012, we will vet this president-and his rivals."

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 245 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Super Tuesday

Republicans in 10 states are going to the polls today to cast votes for their favorite GOP candidates. More than 430 delegates are at stake tonight in Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia. Several polls show very tight races in key states, such as Ohio, where Senator Santorum and Governor Romney are running neck and neck.

If you are a registered voter in one of these states, please make your voice heard. VOTE!

Don't Give Up!

Whatever the outcome tonight, my friends, I want to remind every conservative that our fight doesn't end at the Republican National Convention. That is when the battle begins in earnest! Unfortunately, there is too much handwringing going on far too early.

As much as I respect George Will, I couldn't disagree more with his latest column arguing that we should give up on the presidential contest and focus solely on the House and Senate. Let me quote Winston Churchill: "Never give in -- never, never, never, never."

Of course I want to make sure we hold the House and take back the Senate. But let's be honest: If Obama wins on Election Night, it stands to reason that he will have carried swing states like Florida, Ohio and Virginia. These states also have key Senate races. And Obama voters are likely to support Democrat candidates down the ballot. Our best hope of posting big gains in the congressional races is to make sure Obama loses because we turn out more of our voters!

If you need a reminder of why we must win and why all the talk about taking a pass on 2012 is wrong, read Rich Lowry's outstanding column in today's New York Post outlining the stakes this November.

Obama Should Reject Maher's Million

In yesterday's report, I told you that conservatives need to take the fight to Obama and make the Democrats defend their radical positions. Sandra Fluke is a perfect example. As I noted, Obama called her to offer his support after Rush Limbaugh mocked her as a "slut" and "prostitute." But one of Obama's biggest cheerleaders, who is also one of the largest donors to his super PAC, has called women far worse things.

Kudos to Democrat Kirsten Powers. After Rush Limbaugh's apology, Powers published an op-ed calling on the left to hold their own talking heads accountable for their numerous "misogynistic outbursts." Powers specifically singled out Bill Maher. Consider this excerpt:

"Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Matt Taibbi, and Ed Schultz have been waging it for years with their misogynist outbursts. ...But the grand pooh-bah of media misogyny is without a doubt Bill Maher -- who also happens to be a favorite of liberals -- who has given $1 million to President Obama's super PAC."

I will not quote more of Powers' column rehashing Maher's vulgar references. You can read it here. But be warned: the language is obscene.

Will Obama order his super PAC to return Maher's million-dollar donation? Will the media do their job and report Maher's outbursts and support for Obama? Don't hold your breath.

By the way, we're also learning more about Sandra Fluke. It should have Democrats thinking twice before embracing this "reproductive rights activist."

Our friends at the Media Research Center note that Fluke wants far more than just contraception covered by government mandate. She also wants "gender reassignment surgeries," or sex changes, covered too!

Does Obama support that as well? Like so much of the left's radical agenda, this may sound absurd now, but it is fast becoming a key demand of the militant homosexual rights movement.

Obama Undercuts Israel Again

Barack Obama held a press conference this afternoon and undercut virtually everything he said at his AIPAC speech yesterday. He repeated his call for diplomacy and discouraged talk about military options.

In 2009 Obama said, "Time is running out." More than two years later, nothing has happened. For all his alleged brilliance, he doesn't seem to understand that the Iranians are trying to run out the clock.

They have no interest in diplomacy. In fact, a U.N. IAEA delegation just returned from Tehran and reported that the talks failed! The only thing that the Islamic regime understands is the credible threat of force. Unfortunately, they have concluded that Obama is weak and unwilling to act.

Here is the key point to keep in mind: Israel is operating on a tighter deadline. Its ability to strike Iran's nuclear weapons program is far different than ours. If an Israeli strike is to be successful, it will need to happen sooner rather than later. If that window of opportunity passes, then only the United States could complete the mission.

Obama is saying to Netanyahu, "Trust me. I've got your back." That may be too much to ask given Obama's treatment of Netanyahu, his demand that Israel shrink back to its 1967 borders and his repeated condemnations of new homes for Jews in Jerusalem.

Cardinal Dolan: "We Won't Run"

One of the reasons I remain hopeful about 2012 is the strong stand Catholic leaders are taking in defense of religious liberty. Friday Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued another strongly-worded letter to all Catholic bishops making it clear that the church will not compromise its core values and reiterating that this fight is about religious freedom. Consider these excerpts:

"Since January 20, when the final, restrictive HHS Rule was first announced, we have become certain of two things: religious freedom is under attack, and we will not cease our struggle to protect it. ...We have made it clear in no uncertain terms to the government that we are not at peace with its invasive attempt to curtail the religious freedom we cherish as Catholics and Americans. We did not ask for this fight, but we will not run from it. ...

"We are grateful to know so many of our fellow Americans, especially our friends in the ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, stand together in this important moment in our country. They know that this is not just about sterilization, abortifacients, and chemical contraception. It's about religious freedom, the sacred right of any Church to define its own teaching and ministry. ...

"Brothers, we know so very well that religious freedom is our heritage, our legacy and our firm belief, both as loyal Catholics and Americans. There have been many threats to religious freedom over the decades and years, but these often came from without. This one sadly comes from within. As our ancestors did with previous threats, we will tirelessly defend the timeless and enduring truth of religious freedom."

Chevy Pulls The Plug On The Volt

Barack Obama recently proposed increasing the subsidy for electric cars by 25%, to $10,000, in order to help "Government Motors" sell the Chevy Volt. Evidently, even that generous incentive is failing to entice more people to buy them.

The Washington Examiner reported last week that GM had hoped to sell 45,000 Volts this year. But they sold just over 1,600 in January and February. At that pace, they will sell fewer than 10,000 of the electric/gas cars. CNN reports that the $40,000 starting price turned off potential buyers, especially when similarly sized vehicles were half the price. Even at $5.00 a gallon, $20,000 buys a lot of gas!

So it wasn't at all surprising when GM announced Friday that it was temporarily suspending production of the Volt and laying off 1,300 workers. This isn't rocket science. It's fundamental economics. Like Solyndra and other stimulus projects, Obama's "green" bets are not paying off.

Coach Is Right

Fewer Dems with less enthusiasm versus more Republicans with higher enthusiasm equals Obama wins?

Mar 06, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

The latest Gallup survey delivers two pieces of bad news to the Democrats neither of which can be spun away by clever framing.  Gallup told us that by 53/45 Republicans are more enthusiastic about voting out Obama. A look at the chart accompanying Gallup's report shows the Republican arrow is pointing upward and the Democrat arrow is stuck on flat. It's is at the same 45% since October.

When Gallup's report breaks down voter enthusiasm by group it gets worse for Democrats. It shows non Whites (read African Americans) were 74% enthusiastic at this point in 2008 versus just 48% today. Among 18 to 29 year olds the comparison is just as bad with 2008 enthusiasm at 76% but just 48% today.  These numbers alone spell "game set match! You lose Mr. Obama." Forget about Obama's war on Catholics and sky high gas prices huge drops in enthusiasm like these cannot be ignored. ... American Minute March 5

Mar 05, 2012 05:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Colonists were forced to house British soldiers.

On MARCH 5, 1770, a crowd protested and in the confusion British soldiers fired, killing five, one of whom was Crispus Attucks, the most famous African American who participated in the Revolution.

Paul Revere's popular engraving of the Boston Massacre fanned flames of anti-British sentiment.

Joseph Warren, the President of the Massachusetts Congress who sent Paul Revere on his midnight ride, stated on the 2nd anniversary of the Massacre, 1772:

"If you perform your part, you must have the strongest confidence that the same Almighty Being who protected your pious and venerable forefathers...will still be mindful of you...

May our land be a land of liberty...until the last shock of time shall bury the empires of the world in one common undistinguishable ruin!"

John Hancock, first to sign the Declaration of Independence, stated on the 4th anniversary of the Boston Massacre, 1774:

A final stake thru the heart of ObamaCare?

Mar 05, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

Centuries of legal precedent might intervene to save the American people from Barack Hussein Obama's attempt to force individuals and employers into the legislative enslavement of ObamaCare.

Constitutional law professor Elizabeth Price Foley, in conjunction with the Institute of Justice, has filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court concerning the upcoming Court review of the Affordable Care Act-ObamaCare. In the brief, Foley makes the point that forcing an individual or company to sign a contract for the purchase of a product-health insurance included-would violate one of the centuries old underpinnings of contract law which states that to be enforceable, all contracts must be voluntary. (1)

As Foley writes in the brief, "The Founding generation that drafted and ratified the Constitution never meant for the federal government to possess the power to coerce individuals to engage in commercial transactions against their will." (1)

If congress is permitted to force the ... Continue Reading:A final stake thru the heart of ObamaCare?

Obama Mythos Falling Apart

Last week, the six-month investigation Barack Hussein Obama's eligibility to be the President of the United States by a commissioned law enforcement body concluded with a press conference by Joe Arpaio, Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. Among their investigative findings was the conclusion that there has been a systematic effort to obscure the truth about Obama, including but not limited to his birth certificate, selective service registration and citizenship status. Catching our attention as investigators was one finding in particular: records were missing from the national archives.

Sandra Fluke, Gender Reassignment, and Health Insurance

Stephen Gutowski
Monday, March 5, 2012

Sandra Fluke is being sold by the left as something she's not. Namely a random co-ed from Georgetown law who found herself mixed up in the latest front of the culture war who was simply looking to make sure needy women had access to birth control. That, of course, is not the case.

As many have already uncovered Sandra Fluke she is, in reality, a 30 year old long time liberal activist who enrolled at Georgetown with the express purpose of fighting for the school to pay for students' birth control. She has been pushing for mandated coverage of contraceptives at Georgetown for at least three years according to the Washington Post.

However, as I discovered today, birth control is not all that Ms. Fluke believes private health insurance must cover. She also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if "gender reassignment" surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance. She makes these views clear in an article she co-edited with Karen Hu in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law

FAIR Action Alert

Senate to Take Action on Bill to Grant 10,500 Additional Work Visas BEFORE St. Patrick's Day!

Call your Senators and tell them the U.S. does not need more guest workers!

In a pre-St. Patrick's Day gift to the Irish, the latest news from Capitol Hill is that Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Scott Brown (R-MA) are trying to get legislation to the Senate floor this week that would add at least 10,500 annual guest worker visas for Irish nationals. The legislation could come in the form of either an amended version of S.1983 by Sen. Schumer or S.2005 by Sen. Brown, and would double the number of E-3 visa holders to the U.S. each year. The number of workers brought into the country could grow exponentially once an unlimited number of visas are handed out to the spouses and children (up to the age of 21) of these visa holders.

This legislation not only hurts Americans because it brings in more guest workers at a time of high unemployment, it represents terrible immigration policy because it carves out a special rule for one particular nationality. Moreover, to qualify for this visa, aliens would need to meet only nominal requirements. The legislation, as amended, only requires visa recipients to have two years of work experience in a particular field, OR to have obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent. Employers are not required to look for U.S. workers first before sponsoring an E-3 visa holder.

CALL your Senators TODAY and tell them:

  • You oppose S.1983 and S.2005;
  • The U.S. should NOT add an additional 10,500 guest workers to compete with the already 13 million unemployed Americans seeking jobs; and
  • Congress should not be in the business of carving out special rules for members of a single nationality. Congress should draft immigration law so that it is uniform in application and is blind to the home country of an alien applicant.

Find out how to contact Members of the Senate here.

Stu breaks some unfortunate fashion news to Glenn

Glenn Beck has a long history of demonstrating a highly questionable fashion sense. His ill-advised yet bold efforts over the years have desensitized Mercury staffers to the point where no one bats an eye when Glenn shows up to the office looking like Willy Wonka. Whatever his motivation, Glenn decided it was time to push the boundaries of fashion to the limits this week. How did it work out? So well that Stu had to stage an intervention on radio today.

Overregulation is killing people (literally)

Often we hear about the dangers of overregulation by the federal government, but rarely (shocker) does the media ever bother to follow up and expose it. Today on radio, Glenn took a call from a guy who has worked in pharmaceuticals for over 14 years. He explained that drug companies are having to stop R&D, which creates drugs and new technology that saves lives, to stay afloat. Manufacturing facilities are also being shut down due to overregulation creating drug shortages-something Glenn warned would happen during the healthcare debate.

The stats on Super Tuesday

Is this the last day of the GOP Primary? It very well could be as Mitt Romney has picked up momentum at just the right time. Newt will likely win Georgia, Santorum has a few states falling his way and Ohio is hotly contested. What are the latest poll #'s and how does Glenn think the race will shape up?

Heartless: rare artifact stolen from Church: The heart of Saint Lawrence O'Toole, patron saint of Dublin, Ireland, was stolen by a burglar from a Church after having been on display for hundreds of years. Who would stoop so low? Get the details on the story HERE.

Obama: lowering the standard of living in America

Glenn interviewed Backlash author Deneen Borelli on radio today about how Obama is lowering the standard of living in America. Obama has long said he wants to even the playing field around the globe. That's great and all, but guess where America currently sits: on top. If we're to even things out America must come down. Check out the interview.

Obama gives Occupy a gift

Obama has moved the G-8 out of Chicago to Camp David, officially in order "to facilitate a free-flowing discussion" among the different members. Could it have anything to do with the Occupy protests that were planned? Absolutely. Did Obama just legitimize and embolden the protestors? Glenn reacted on radio this morning.
