The PA Coalition will be sponsoring two (2) important conferences coming up in March:

American Majority Activist Training - On March 10th, the PA Coalition will be co-sponsoring Activist Training at the Double Tree Hilton Pittsburgh from 10:00 to 4:00 PM. Included will be breakout sessions concerning:

  • Effective Organizations
  • Precinct Power
  • Social Capitalists
  • Beginner's Guide to Facebook and Twitter
  • Blogging and Websites

To learn more and to register go to American Majority Pittsburgh Training.

PA Leadership Conference (PLC) - On Friday and Saturday, March 23rd and 24th, the Commonwealth's largest gathering of conservative leaders and activists occurs in Harrisburg. The Friday Keynote Speaker is Fox News' Senior Political Analyst Britt Hume. Other notable speakers include Senator Pat Toomey, Herman Cain and Grover Nordquist.

The PA Coalition is once again well represented with several members on the speaking docket including our Director of Health Care Reform, Dr. Nick Pandelidis who will speak concerning aspects of the proposed PA Health Care Exchange and PA Coalition President Greg Wrightstone will be moderating the Energy Panel titled "Marcellus - How Shale we Proceed?"

Please stop by the PA Coalition's table at PLC to receive a free piece of Marcellus Shale and pick up literature on the PA Health Care Exchange. We are proud to be able to sponsor noted film-maker Ann McElhinney whose newest film "FrackNation" is to be release in June. This film will confront and expose the anti-Marcellus zealots and neo-Luddites who oppose responsible development Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale. Go to PLC to register or learn more.

Additionally, in a recent email, we regretfully omitted listing a free market candidate who is running against Union Lackey Mark Mustio:

Weeks One & Two Now Available - Sign Up TODAY!

Dr. Larry P. Arnn
Dr. Larry P. Arnn

Over the years, many friends of Hillsdale, those who never attended college here, have said to me: "Dr. Arnn, I wish I could take Hillsdale's Constitution course!"

In response to these requests, this past year, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College offered the "Introduction to the Constitution" lecture series at no charge. Frankly, I wasn't sure what sort of a response a course like this would have.

That's why I was excited to see that YOU and almost 200,000 other people from all over the United States registered for "Introduction to the Constitution."

Thank you very much for registering and participating. I hope you learned a lot from the series.

I was thrilled, not only by the response, but at what it indicates: Americans are willing and eager learn about the Constitution and to defend the principles of liberty that made America so prosperous!

And this re-awakening of national interest in the Constitution comes not a minute too soon.

Now, for the first time ever, Hillsdale College is offering a no-cost 10-week online Constitution course based on the class Hillsdale College students must complete for graduation:

"Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution"

This course on the U.S. Constitution is available online at no charge to anyone who wants to understand and defend the timeless principles of liberty upon which our nation was founded!

I am proud to be teaching part of our NEW "Constitution 101" course and hope YOU will be one of my students again!

Hillsdale College"Constitution 101" begins on February 20, 2012, and concludes the week of April 30. It will cover such topics as the Declaration of Independence and its connection to the Constitution, how the Constitution is structured to protect individual liberty and ensure good government, the crisis of constitutional government faced by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, and modern challenges to the Constitution during the "Progressive" era.

It is my honor to teach the first class, "The American Mind," and the final class, "The Recovery of the Constitution." All of the classes will be taught by Hillsdale College professors - the top teachers in their field and the same ones who instruct our students here on Hillsdale's campus.

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.

What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.

The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.

There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.

But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.

Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.

If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.

But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.

Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.

Thanks,

John Ryan

Americans for Prosperity

hand off jy health care!March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue. As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Details can be found below.

Help Principled Candidates Win

Campaign Training Seminar

March 16-17, 2012 ~ Harrisburg, PA

Voters today - perhaps more than at any time in recent history - are yearning for principled candidates committed to standing strong for the timeless values upon which our country was founded and standing stronger against the politics-as-usual establishment working to undermine those values.

The Winning Campaigns Training Seminar shows principled candidates, campaign staff, and grassroots activists how to run winning campaigns without compromising their values - with a special emphasis placed on running and winning primaries. You'll learn:

  •   Secrets campaign pros use to develop winning strategies.
  •   How to raise all the money you need to win even if you've never raised money before.
  •   Keys to persuading voters in-person, through the mail, over the phone, and online.

Who should attend?
Current & future candidates, campaign staff and consultants, campaign volunteers, grassroots citizen activists.

What's the cost?
Nothing, it's free, but you must register in advance. A group of donors concerned about the political leadership in our state have generously underwritten the cost of the seminar.

For more information or to Pre-Register now, contact Dan Bartkowiak by calling 717-545-0600 or email dbart@pafamily.org.

254 Days until the 2012 General Election

To Everyone Who Helped with Verify the Recall - Thank You!

Together We Conducted An Independent, Citizen-Led Audit of EPIC Scale

Proving That We the PeopleWill Stand in the Gap of Government to Uphold Election Integrity

Here's What You Accomplished IN 22 DAYS:

  • 14,000+ volunteers joined in from 49 states
  • 3.5 MILLION records were entered
  • 192.2 GB total bandwidth
  • 23,529,926 total requests
    • 481,002 were attempted threats to the site

We proved that the unions had nowhere near the 1,000,000 signatures they touted - and that of the actual signatures turned in, at least 25% and possibly up to 40%, had critical errors.

Did the unions legitimately compile the 520,000 signatures necessary to trigger a recall election? We'll let the public decide.

Our goal was neither to support or negate the outcome - our goal was to uphold the integrity of the process.

Reports will be posted online on Monday, February 27th. You can check them out here.

Join us Monday night @ 7:00 for a closer look at the numbers and what they tell us

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID

"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere.
My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why?

Louis:
Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934).
The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward.
I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered.
Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters.

Voter Cheating

You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian.
Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.

Background

There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:

a)     12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934

Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand.
I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...

b)     Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID

"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well.
"It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."

c)      Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)

Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh)
"Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918.
"Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

d)     Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler:  No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)

"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens.
"I can vote twenty-two times.
"You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? (Although, in fairness, dead people should only be able to vote once).
http://pawatercooler.com/v3/?tag=philadelphia-voter-fraud

e)     11/7/2011, PA ACORN Lives

"Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include:
* Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate)
* Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman)
* Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in
ACORN's 2005 annual report)
* Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with
Justice)
* Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA)
* Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA)
* Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson)
Action United is located  at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org.
http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2011/acornspecialreport08222011.pdf

There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project.
There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor.
Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's:
"The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/
There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs:

"Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night.
"The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29...
A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement.
"He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..."
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/

What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"?
Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November.
On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things.
The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

Campaign For Liberty

Deception, betrayal, and dishonesty.

These are not appealing traits in elected officials, but sadly, they aptly describe many Republican lawmakers across the country feverishly working to implement ObamaCare.

Would you believe that Governor Tom Corbett is among those Republicans diligently complying with ObamaCare
?

Despite the fact that Pennsylvania is party to the lawsuit being heard before the Supreme Court, Tom Corbett is implementing the law in our state.

ObamaCare requires that each state set up what is known as a Health Insurance Exchange. In theory, these exchanges will be one-stop online shops where individuals will pool together to purchase insurance.

Without a state-created exchange, the individual mandate cannot be enforced.

As in all bureaucracies, there are some major downfalls, not the least of which is the anticipated spike in the cost of insurance.

Other significant issues include:

  • The federal government will dictate what insurers may participate
  • The federal government will decide minimum coverage-potentially including such elective procedures as breast augmentation and face lifts
  • The federal government will stipulate how the exchange is run

I could go on, but I'm certain you recognize the theme. The federal government will control every aspect of our health care.

Yet, Governor Corbett claims that establishing CorbettCare will protect Pennsylvania citizens from undue federal regulation.

The opposite is actually true. Creation of the CorbettCare Exchange does great harm and forces onerous federal regulations on our state.

Governor Corbett is readily ceding state Sovereignty to the central government, and relinquishing all authority on health care matters.

Our state has already requested and accepted over $33 million to set up the exchange
!

Merely accepting and spending federal funds requires absolute obedience to federal government regulations, and the loss of state sovereignty.

A key responsibility of state officials is to protect our sovereignty, yet our legislators may be considering legislation to assist in the establishment of CorbettCare.

And like obedient little children, these turncoats expect you to forget their empty promises, ignore their campaign rhetoric, and blame the Federal Government for all of the many losses you will suffer as a result.

Click here to sign the petition demanding that the over $33 million in grant funds be returned and all contingency plans to submit to ObamaCare be abandoned immediately!

If you'd like to tell Governor Corbett how you feel about this scheme, you can reach him at 717-787-2500.

There are over 1 billion reasons why some states are establishing these exchanges-and each reason has a dollar sign attached.

With over $1 billion at stake, and more than $700 million already sent to complicit states, it's easy to understand why greedy politicians have their hands out before the court can rule.

These funds are being used all over the country to enrich political allies and the well-connected. Millions of your taxpayer dollars are being wasted, and you are footing the bill while they steal your freedoms.

Those hundreds of millions will never be returned to our treasury-unless you and I do something to force the issue now.

Tell your legislators that even if the Supreme Court fails to overturn ObamaCare, you expect them to protect your rights and jealously guard our state sovereignty by refusing to establish a state exchange.

For Liberty,

Deb Wells
Interim State Coordinator

Americans for Prosperity

We have an amazing opportunity before us today, to score a BIG WIN for taxpayers and small businesses...but we can't do it without your help!

Please click here to send an email to your Representative and tell him or her to vote yes on the prevailing wage reform bills before the House today!

At 1pm, our PA Legislators are voting to amend the prevailing wage laws that have long favored unions and hurt working families and small businesses!

Could you please email your legislator right now and ask him or her to vote YES on two prevailing wage reform bills: H.B. 1329 ("Threshold") and H.B. 1685 ("Jobs Classification")?

Our politicians must not only hear from the unions...they must hear from YOU and I...the people who bear the burden of paying for these bills!

Here's a quick overview of the bills:

The "Jobs Classification Bill" will require Pennsylvania to define job classifications on public works projects. The lack of definitions has been used by some unions to attack and file frivolous grievances against small business owners, costing Pennsylvania jobs and tax dollars.

The "threshold bill" will end the artificially low estimated cost of total project from $25,000 to conform to the Consumer Price Index of the previous calendar year. The current amount was based on the 1963 Consumer Price Index and allowed prevailing wage to kick in at too low a threshold making it a costly endeavor for school districts and municipalities to fund minor projects.

Will you please ask your legislator to vote "YES" to H.B. 1329 ("Threshold") and H.B. 1685 ("Jobs Classification")? Don't miss this chance to score a win for the taxpayers and small businesses of Pennsylvania!

Thank you for all your hard work!

In Liberty and Solidarity,

Jennifer Stefano

PS - These two bills are going on our legislative scorecard and every Representative will be graded on their vote.

RedState Morning Briefing

For March 1, 2012

1. If You Use Georgia Pacific Paper Products, Barack Obama Wants You To Turn Yourself In Georgia-Pacific makes a lot of household paper products. Quilted Northern toilet paper, Angel Soft toilet paper, Brawny paper towels, Dixie cups, Vanity Fair napkins, etc. If you use any of them, Barack Obama wants you to report yourself to the government. No, I'm not making this up.

2. Exclusive: Newt Gingrich Talks to RedState

Yesterday I had the privilege of conducting the first interview with Newt Gingrich in Atlanta, Ga. following the primary elections in Arizona and Michigan. The former speaker seemed resigned to the results and matter-of-fact about Tuesday night's results, emotionless about facts he can now do nothing about. He spoke quietly and calmly with intensity, if not energy.

I started our interview asking him about his path to victory, given he is now behind Rick Santorum in delegates. He pointed out how few primaries we have had compared to prior years and how many delegates are up for grabs still.

Calling Rick Santorum a "big labor Republican", Gingrich made clear he thought neither Santorum nor Romney would play well in deeply red states, as we saw in South Carolina - states that are about to be up for grabs on Super Tuesday and shortly thereafter. He views Mitt Romney as someone who cannot sell himself to the voters because Romney does not know himself who he is.

In the interview, more to be aired today, Gingrich also responded to Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) claiming Gingrich, Santorum, and Romney are at war with Islam. We delved into Operation Fast and Furious, energy prices, and Gingrich's plan to save upwards of $500 billion a year by transforming the federal government with Lean Six Sigma.

I'll send you an email later today when the full interview is online. It is quite interesting.

3. Irony, Thy Name is Lugar

Richard Lugar does not even own a home in Indiana anymore. Despite this, someone thought it would be a good idea for his campaign to attack challenger Richard Mourdock for absenteeism.

4. Matt Yglesias and the Totally Awesome Energy Narrative

Dig the moats, unroll the concertina wire and man the battlements! With the looming possibility of $4.00 per gallon gasoline at the pump, the Left's defense of President Obama's disastrous energy policies has begun in earnest.

Boycott rock fundraisers
(Live Aid; Live 8; etc).

Explain that rock stars have an unerring ability to choose the wrong causes. The original Live Aid event, for example, might have killed at least as many Africans as it saved by encouraging Ethiopia's Marxist dictator Mengistu Haile Mariamin the Stalinist "land reform" program that had caused the famine in the first place.

Hillsdale College

The U.S. Constitution

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

Editorial Note: Just received a couple of copies of the reader.   Not just a short course pamphlet this; with the heft of 'Atlas Shrugged', it is well worth getting whether or not you choose to take the course.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

The Union League of Philadelphia
Luncheon: 12:00 - 1:30PM

John Stossel

John Stossel's new book, "No, They Can't: Why Government Fails-but Individuals Succeed," argues: "There ought not to be a law." Stossel explains how politicians promise to solve problems by passing laws, but the laws invariably make our problems worse.

After years of obeying our parents, we are programmed to think that anytime there is a problem, whether it's companies going bankrupt or schools keeping kids stupid, government action is the way to solve it. Using his decades of reporting, Stossel tackles how those intuitive, knee-jerk reactions lead us astray.

Central planning sounds right. It feels good. But it has nothing to do with the realities of economics and science. There is nothing that government can do that we cannot do better as free individuals - and as groups of individuals, working together voluntarily, not at the point of a gun or under threat of a fine. Without big government, our possibilities are limitless.

Saving Muslims From Themselves

After September 11 the reasonable thing to do would have been to take steps to save ourselves from Islamic terror, instead we went on a crusade to save Muslims from themselves. The latest stop on that crusade is Syria, where the foreign policy experts responsible for decades of horrifying misjudgements tell us that we are duty bound to save the Syrian people from their dictator.

Rarely do we ask why it is that Muslims so often need saving from their dictators. Or why a party that campaigned on improving America's reputation by promising not to bomb Muslims anymore, is now improving America's reputation by bombing so many Muslims and so often that it makes George W. Bush look like a tie dyed hippie.

The Obama Administration has had a role in regime change in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya all in one year. Along with the other "Friends of Syria" it would like to bomb its way to regime change in Syria. The point of all this regime change is to replace totalitarian Muslim regimes with democratically elected totalitarian Muslim regimes on the theory that will make everyone happier.

The reason why Muslim countries end up with dictators can be seen in the streets of Libya where militias run wild and former members of the regime and anyone with black skin is dragged off the street for torture sessions and a bullet in the back of the head. Peel away the presidents, colonels and other suit wearing tyrants fronting for an oligarchy and that is what every Muslim country will be reduced to.

To understand the problem with Syria, one only need look at neighboring Lebanon where every attempt at coalition building between different religious and ethnic groups has gone badly over and over again. The ruling Alawites have to hang on to power because the alternative is to be an oppressed minority. The Sunnis have to strive for power because the alternative is to be an oppressed minority. This pattern repeats itself across the region.

Jewish DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz to do fundraiser for radical Muslim EMERGE USA

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Empowers a Radical Muslim Fundraiser

Posted By Joe Kaufman and Beila Rabinowitz

Published on February 27, 2012 on http://www.militantislammonitor.org (and originally in Frontpage Magazine). Republished here with permission.

A radical Muslim group with ties to the Obama Administration will be featuring the head of the Democratic National Committee, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, as the keynote speaker for its annual fundraising banquet this coming April. By agreeing to partake in the event, Wasserman Schultz is helping to further this organization's nefarious agenda of placing Islamists into positions of American power and influence. It is this stealth jihad which threatens our country not from abroad, but from within.

White House Wants to Keep Gas Prices High

With the national average of gas prices hitting $3.65 a gallon, nearing $6 in some parts of the country, and poised to head even higher, America's families are wondering when the bleeding at the pump will stop. But for Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu, those steep prices aren't even a concern. In fact, he says his goal is not to get the price of gasoline to go down.

Chu delivered those stunning remarks in testimony before Congress yesterday. When Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) asked Chu whether it's his "overall goal to get our price" of gasoline lower, Chu said, "No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy."

Blasphemy and Free Speech

Paul Marshall
Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute

PAUL MARSHALL is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom. He has published widely in newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, First Things, The New Republic, and The Weekly Standard. He is the author or editor of more than 20 books on religion and politics, including Their Blood Cries Out, Religious Freedom in the World, and Blind Spot: When Journalists Don't Get Religion. Most recently he is the co-author, with Nina Shea, of Silenced: How Apostasy and Blasphemy Codes are Choking Freedom Worldwide

The following is adapted from a lecture delivered at Hillsdale College's Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C., on February 3, 2012.

separator

A growing threat to our freedom of speech is the attempt to stifle religious discussion in the name of preventing "defamation of" or "insults to" religion, especially Islam. Resulting restrictions represent, in effect, a revival of blasphemy laws.

Few in the West were concerned with such laws 20 years ago. Even if still on some statute books, they were only of historical interest. That began to change in 1989, when the late Ayatollah Khomeini, then Iran's Supreme Leader, declared it the duty of every Muslim to kill British-based writer Salman Rushdie on the grounds that his novel, The Satanic Verses, was blasphemous. Rushdie has survived by living his life in hiding. Others connected with the book were not so fortunate: its Japanese translator was assassinated, its Italian translator was stabbed, its Norwegian publisher was shot, and 35 guests at a hotel hosting its Turkish publisher were burned to death in an arson attack.

More recently, we have seen eruptions of violence in reaction to Theo van Gogh's and Ayaan Hirsi Ali's film Submission, Danish and Swedish cartoons depicting Mohammed, the speech at Regensburg by Pope Benedict XVI on the topic of faith, reason, and religious violence, Geert Wilders' film Fitna, and a false Newsweek report that the U.S. military had desecrated Korans at Guantanamo. A declaration by Terry Jones-a deservedly obscure Florida pastor with a congregation of less than 50-that he would burn a Koran on September 11, 2010, achieved a perfect media storm, combining American publicity-seeking, Muslim outrage, and the demands of 24 hour news coverage. It even drew the attention of President Obama and senior U.S. military leaders. Dozens of people were murdered as a result.

The Case For Infanticide

Posted: 29 Feb 2012 12:48 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

Pro-lifers have long argued that it is a slippery slope from abortion to infanticide; in the case of partial-birth abortion, the distinction is slim at best. Ridiculous, liberals have long replied. Who could confuse abortion with infanticide?

Ethicists, maybe. No, this is not a parody: "Killing babies no different from abortion, experts say."

Parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are "morally irrelevant" and ending their lives is no different to abortion, a group of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University has argued.

The article, published in the Journal of Medical Ethics, says newborn babies are not "actual persons" and do not have a "moral right to life". The academics also argue that parents should be able to have their baby killed if it turns out to be disabled when it is born. ...

The article, entitled "After-birth abortion: Why should the baby live?", was written by two of Prof Savulescu's former associates, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva.

They argued: "The moral status of an infant is equivalent to that of a fetus in the sense that both lack those properties that justify the attribution of a right to life to an individual." Rather than being "actual persons", newborns were "potential persons". They explained: "Both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a 'person' in the sense of 'subject of a moral right to life'. ...

As such they argued it was "not possible to damage a newborn by preventing her from developing the potentiality to become a person in the morally relevant sense".

The authors therefore concluded that "what we call 'after-birth abortion' (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled".

They also argued that parents should be able to have the baby killed if it turned out to be disabled without their knowing before birth, for example citing that "only the 64 per cent of Down's syndrome cases" in Europe are diagnosed by prenatal testing.

Once such children were born there was "no choice for the parents but to keep the child", they wrote. "To bring up such children might be an unbearable burden on the family and on society as a whole, when the state economically provides for their care."

However, they did not argue that some baby killings were more justifiable than others - their fundamental point was that, morally, there was no difference to abortion as already practiced.

They preferred to use the phrase "after-birth abortion" rather than "infanticide" to "emphasise that the moral status of the individual killed is comparable with that of a fetus".

Among the many things Rick Santorum has said recently that is raising hackles is that President Obama is a "snob" for saying everyone should go to college. How uncouth of the ex-Senator with a working class background! The Senator deserves a defense, however, though probably not on the grounds he had in mind.

First let's brush aside the surface arguments on this issue, which are two: first, Obama can be seen as merely extending the commonplace utilitarian view that higher education is the gateway to higher incomes, as the surveys show that college graduates earn more than high school graduates by a substantial margin. But this probably reflects selection bias, which means the income gap between college graduates and non-college graduates may diminish as more people who don't really belong in college go to college nonetheless. (And perhaps Obama is also trying to prop up an industry that is on the brink of collapse or at the very least wrenching change; i.e., he's trying to forestall the collapse of what is being called the "higher education bubble.") There's lots of learned argument on this point; I'll recommend one of Charles Murray's previous books, Real Education: Four Simple Truths for Bringing America's Schools Back to Reality.

Since this past fall Glen Campbell has been on a self-declared farewell tour following on the announcement of his struggle against Alzheimer's disease. Aaron Goldstein caught Campbell's show in Boston last week and filed this report (including a link to tour dates).

We customarily salute Campbell in conjunction with our annual celebration of the birthday of songwriter Jimmy Webb. "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" (number 2, 1967) and "Wichita Lineman" (number 3, 1968) were of course the songs that launched Campbell's partnership with Webb. The songs announced the arrival of a major new writer with a voice of his own.

A Big Night For Mitt Romney

Posted: 28 Feb 2012 07:17 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

Mitt Romney won easily in Arizona today, and various sources are calling Michigan for him as well. From my own review of the voting in Michigan, which is reported here, it seems that Romney's lead should increase through the evening, as he is winning big in the heavily populated counties around Detroit.

This despite the fact that, according to exit polls, around 10% of the voters in the GOP primary are Democrats. In an echo of Rush Limbaugh's 2008 "Operation Chaos," Democrats and union officials have urged their followers to vote for Santorum so as to promote a weak Republican nominee. Michael Moore advised his fans to vote for Santorum, which probably produced six or seven ballots. Still, if 10% of the voters in the primary were Democrats, and if 80% of them voted for Santorum-a conservative estimate-it added 6% to his total. If my arithmetic is correct, that means that if Romney wins by, say, five points, he actually won by 11 points among Republicans. Right? No doubt a reader will correct my math, but that should be in the ballpark.

"'Collective Salvation' is a part of Black Liberation Theology, which states that you cannot enter Heaven without the help of your community or group. The understanding is that God only looks at the masses as one entity, instead of via individual interaction with the Father. This poisonous belief system is the key catalyst for keeping Blacks separated from Whites, in keeping with the related belief that Whites can only receive salvation when they atone for what has been done to Blacks during the period of their slavery in the United States.

Obama was specifically chosen for this reason. Socialists needed someone who could be deceptive...' "

Marc Comvalius: Time to wise up to the socialist "collective salvation" aspect of Black Liberation Theology

By Marc Comvalius

Published Tuesday, February 29, 2012

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12)

The battle for the soul of America will not be won by the ballot, but by understanding what has been in place since the inception of this country. Everything that occurs politically always has a spiritual undercurrent, unseen and unnoticed.

As a child growing up in New York, I was always intrigued by the way every ill plaguing the inner city seemed to result in the blame of whites, to even the point of submission to the collective thought process of the "hood" ("over a million blacks can't be wrong").

Socialists of course knew that the collective culture of the "black" community was a power to be harnessed. And the only way they could obtain that golden key was by way of religion.

Barack Obama, "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright, "Reverend" Jesse Jackson and others subscribe to a religion that does not follow the exact word of God, but instead follows a god that is totally unknown and not understood by the masses outside of the inner cities.

Chicago is the nerve center of this ideology.

Obama Loses His First Debate

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published February 29, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

In a speech that the Gingrich campaign has begun broadcasting around the country, and which is posted at Newt.org, Gingrich presents a unique new vision for a booming American economy. I think you will find it pathbreaking. It is so compelling that it drew Obama into a transcontinental debate with the former Speaker, the first exchange that Obama has decisively lost since he appeared on the national stage.

Gingrich began the explanation of his vision like this:

What if we had a program that enabled the American people to develop so much new energy that we were, in fact, no longer reliant on Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran. We didn't care what the Iranians did in the Strait of Hormuz because we were safe in national security terms.

What if that new energy program created well over a million new jobs, high-paying jobs, jobs that put Americans back to work and kept the money here at home that we had been sending overseas, giving us a dramatic improvement in our balance of payments, strengthening the dollar and giving us a chance to live much freer and more independently?

Equality or Inequality

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published February 29, 2012 on Townhall.com.

Rick Santorum's speech at the Detroit Economic Club stirred a bit of controversy when he said: "I'm not about equality of result when it comes to income inequality. There is income inequality in America. There always has been, and hopefully -- and I do say that -- there always will be." That kind of statement, though having merit, should not be made to people who have little or no understanding. Let's look at inequality.

Kay S. Hymowitz's article "Why the Gender Gap Won't Go Away. Ever." in City Journal (Summer 2011), shows that female doctors earn only 64 percent of the income that male doctors earn. What should be done about that? It turns out that only 16 percent of surgeons are women but 50 percent of pediatricians are women. Even though surgeons have many more years of education and training than do pediatricians, should Congress equalize their salaries or make pediatricians become surgeons?

Wage inequality is everywhere. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Asian men and women earn more than white men and women. Female cafeteria attendants earn more than their male counterparts. Females who are younger than 30 and have never been married earn salaries 8 percent higher than males of the same description. Among women who graduated from college during 1992-93, by 2003 more than one-fifth were no longer in the workforce, and another 17 percent were working part time. That's to be compared with only 2 percent of men in either category. Hymowitz cites several studies showing significant career choice and lifestyle differences between men and women that result in income inequality.

Lying Because It Works

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published February 27, 2012 in The Washington Times.

This year's presidential election will be a contest between truth and lies. Don't think it's that stark? Let's compare how the media handled two incidents. On Feb. 16, philanthropist Foster Friess, a major backer and adviser to Rick Santorum, cracked a joke that became a media sensation.

In an MSNBC interview with Andrea Mitchell, who asked him if Mr. Santorum's socially conservative stances would harm his "viability," Mr. Friess lamented that other issues, such as the economy and national security, were being eclipsed by the focus on sex. Then he quipped, "You know, back in my days, they'd use Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly."

That's an old one, but because it raises the issue of moral volition, all but humorless feminists usually chuckle. But listen to this from The Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart: "Friess' stupefying, backward and dangerous response had jaws dropping from coast to coast. ... The view espoused by Friess is dumb and grim." He finished by describing the idea of Mr. Friess having White House access someday as "terrifying."

 Campaign for Working Families

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

From: Gary L. Bauer

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 251 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Stand With CWF Today!

Friends, after a brief analysis of the state of the GOP contest, I am reporting on a couple of disturbing issues today. Each one highlights the attack on our values. But, first, I want to encourage you to go to CWFPAC.com right now and help us make the most of our matching gift opportunity.

The response to our morning appeal has been better than yesterday's. But as you will read, the need is urgent. Thank you!

Romney Bounces Back

First, I want to give you a brief summary of yesterday's primaries. Governor Mitt Romney regained his footing last night by easily winning Arizona, and narrowly winning his home state of Michigan (41% to 38%) over Senator Rick Santorum. Here is the delegate count as of now:

  • Romney: 167
  • Santorum: 48
  • Gingrich: 38
  • Paul: 27

All four candidates will stay in the race through "Super Tuesday" on March 6th.

In Michigan, Romney did best among voters who said they were looking for a candidate who can beat Obama, and Santorum did best among strong conservatives and those who said moral character was their most important issue. For the record, both Santorum and Romney are in dead heats when matched against Obama.

Why Hasn't Romney "Closed The Deal"?

In every primary, Governor Romney has far outspent his competition, but he is still having trouble convincing conservatives to rally to his banner. History teaches us that no matter how electable a candidate appears, if he doesn't excite the base, he won't ultimately win (Bush's reelection in 1992, Dole, McCain). So why have so many strong conservatives supported Santorum and Gingrich, and before that Bachmann, Cain or Perry?

Romney said something yesterday that I think highlights the problem. Asked why conservatives have looked at so many alternatives, he replied:

"It's very easy to excite the base with incendiary comments. We've seen throughout the campaign that if you're willing to say really outrageous things that are accusatory and attacking President Obama, that you're going to jump up in the polls. You know, I'm not willing to light my hair on fire to try and get support."

Bingo! The governor wants to avoid saying "outrageous things." He doesn't want to be "accusatory" and engage in "attacking" the president. And that is the problem. Romney is worried about "outrageous" rhetoric, but the problem with Obama is his outrageous policies. Those policies are destroying our economic health, undercutting our standing around the world and pushing radical attacks on family, religious liberty and the sanctity of life. Conservatives are desperately looking for a fighter who will unapologetically champion faith, family and freedom!

I begged John McCain to aggressively take on Obama's radical agenda, including his decades-long relationship with Jeremiah Wright, in the 2008 campaign. He refused because he did not want to sound "outrageous." It may have cost him the election.

Whoever gets the GOP nomination will be savaged by Obama and the Axelrod political kill machine. Our eventual nominee may want to "play nice." But if he does, he will be yet another failed GOP presidential candidate, and our country will suffer the consequences of four more years of Obama's extreme agenda.

Pelosi's Priorities

This week Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) convened her own "hearing" on Obama's contraception mandate. Unlike the official hearing held by House Republicans, Pelosi's hearing was not about religious liberty, but about why taxpayer's should be forced to pick up the tab for promiscuous college students.

Sandra Fluke, a "reproductive rights activist" and a student at Georgetown Law School (a Catholic institution) was there to explain the burden students are enduring paying for their own contraception. It's Leap Day, not April Fool's Day. I am not making this up, folks. Here is part of Fluke's testimony:

"Forty percent of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggled financially as a result of this policy (Georgetown's insurance does not cover contraception). Without insurance coverage, contraception, as you know, can cost a woman over $3,000 during [three years of] law school. ... Just last week, a married female student told me that she had to stop using contraception because she and her husband just couldn't fit it into their budget anymore."

So now she is claiming a "right" to free contraception paid for by you, churches and insurance companies. One conservative columnist checked with a local drug store and discovered that it sells condoms for a dollar. He writes: "That $3,000 would buy her 3,000 condoms -- or, 1,000 a year. ...Assuming it's not a leap year, that's 1,000 divided by 365 -- or having sex 2.74 times a day, every day, for three straight years."

The Weekly Standard reports that a Washington, D.C., Target pharmacy sells generic birth control pills for $9.00 a month. That would be $324 over three years. According to a Target employee, "That's the price without insurance."  And yet another conservative journalist noted, "There are three federally funded Planned Parenthood clinics in Washington, D.C., -- none being more than 3.2 miles from the Georgetown Law School," where contraceptives are often free.

If this is the best case Obama and Pelosi can make for forcing religious institutions to violate their core values, I think we can win that debate -- IF we are willing to fight it. And what does it say about our culture today when a young female student at a Catholic institution can without any shame whatsoever suggest that she is entitled to contraception at taxpayer expense?

My friends, this is a perfect example of Pelosi's priorities, why Barack Obama must be defeated and why ObamaCare must be repealed by a conservative Congress.

Go to CWFPAC.com right now. Help us bring the Obama nightmare to an end!

Talking Points

Periodically, we are going to provide you with short, pithy one-liners to use as talking points with friends or family members who may be on the fence about the election. Given Pelosi's hearing and Obama's plans to cut healthcare benefits for our active duty and retired military personnel, here is our first talking point:

"Barack Obama is trying to cut healthcare benefits for our soldiers while he is trying to force the Catholic Church and other religious institutions to provide free contraceptives to college students."

Resign, Hillary!

Hillary Clinton was addressing a town hall meeting with students in Tunisia last weekend. During the question and answer session, she was confronted by the anti-Semitism that is so prevalent in much of the Middle East. Sadly, she failed to repudiate it. Here is a transcript of the session provided by the State Department:

"QUESTION: My name is Ivan. After the electoral campaign starts in the United States ... we noticed here in Tunisia that most of the candidates from the both sides run towards the Zionist lobbies to get their support in the States. And afterwards, once they are elected, they come to show their support for countries like Tunisia and Egypt for a common Tunisian or a common Arab citizen. How would you reassure and gain his trust once again given the fact that you are supporting his enemy as well at the same time?"

Clinton had a golden opportunity to, first, denounce the obvious anti-Semitism in the question, second, reiterate America's strong support for Israel and, third, reassure Ivan that Israel is not automatically the enemy of the "common Arab citizen." She did no such thing. Unbelievably, she reinforced his bigotry! Here is her stunning response:

"SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, first, let me say ... that a lot of things are said in political campaigns that should not bear a lot of attention. There are comments made that certainly don't reflect the United States, don't reflect our foreign policy... I mean, if you go to the United States, you see mosques everywhere, you see Muslim Americans everywhere. That's the fact. So I would not pay attention to the rhetoric.

"Secondly, I would say watch what President Obama says and does. He's our President. He represents all of the United States, and he will be reelected President, so I think that that will be a very clear signal to the entire world as to what our values are and what our President believes. So I think it's a fair question because I know that -- I sometimes am a little surprised that people around the world pay more attention to what is said in our political campaigns than most Americans... So I think you have to shut out some of the rhetoric and just focus on what we're doing and what we stand for, and particularly what our President represents."

Excuse me? Is Clinton implying that mosques and Muslims "everywhere" in America somehow represents our foreign policy? Is she suggesting that the strong pro-Israel comments regularly made by Republicans and even on occasion by Barack Obama are just "rhetoric" that should be "shut out"? It would seem so. Hillary Clinton should step down immediately as Secretary of State.

But, while I vehemently disagree with Clinton that Obama will be reelected, I do agree that we should pay more attention to what he actually does. I think Obama's has repeatedly sent "a very clear signal" that he is in fact the most anti-Israel president to ever sit in the Oval Office!

The Senator asked a simple question: why are members of the armed forces being required to up their health insurance payments when civilian federal employees who have unions are not?

With a Kenyan father Obama's 18 year old mother couldn't have Constitutional conveyed citizenship

Feb 29, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

By Suzanne Eovaldi, staff writer

Attorney Orly Taitz vowed to shove everything she had concerning Barack Obama's evidentiary problem at last week's eligibility challenge in front of Indiana's election board.  Taitz, whose airline ticket to the hearing was purchased by a concerned citizen presented evidence of a "stolen social security number and a forgery instead of a birth certificate!"  She told WND reporter Bob Unruh that Indiana just removed their Secretary of State Charlie White for his discrepancies with voter registration irregularities over "minor" problems.  Taitz said our sitting president's eligibility problems are major in comparison.

But new questions about the status of BHO's teen age mother Stanley Ann Dunham are surfacing as analysis at another web site is revealing a Congressional rule change for people born between December 23, 1952 and November 13, 1986 puts in serious doubt Stanley Ann Dunham's ability to confer citizenship status on her son.

Since Barack Hussein ... Continue Reading:With a Kenyan father Obama's 18 year old mother couldn't have Constitutional conveyed citizenship

By Bill Federer, staff writer

His grandson, Robert, was the U.S. Navy Commodore who helped freed slaves found Liberia, West Africa, and in 1846, captured California, resulting in the city of Stockton being named for him.

His brother-in-law, Elias Boudinot, was a Continental Congress President and founder of the American Bible Society.

His daughter married Declaration Signer Benjamin Rush.

His name was Richard Stockton. After Richard Stockton signed the Declaration of Independence, the British invaded New Jersey, forcing him to move his family for safety.

Richard was betrayed, dragged from his bed at night and imprisoned in New York.

His farm was pillaged and his library, one of the best in the country, was burned.

With his health broken from over a year in the British prison, Richard Stockton died bankrupt at age 51 on FEBRUARY 28, 1781.

New Jersey placed statue of him in the U.S. Capitol Statuary Hall. Richard Stockton wrote in his Will:

"As ... Continue Reading:American Minute Feb. 28

New Pew survey: Obama losing ground among Catholic Jewish Protestant and even atheist voters

Feb 28, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

According to a Pew poll released earlier this month even before Barack Obama went public with his all-out war on the Catholic Church White non-Hispanic Catholics started moving away from the Democrats and toward a Republican self-identification.

The quietly released survey, which contains lots of bad news for Democrats, was completed last December by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

What Pew found was as follows.

The Democrat identification all Catholics (practicing and non- practicing) had in 2008 is gone.  Democrat identification has slipped from 53/37 to 48/43 - again this was BEFORE Obama's declaration of war.

While this general trend should be enough to cause alarm for Democrats, digging a bit deeper brings worse news.  Among White non-Hispanic Catholics - who make up a much larger portion of those who will actually vote-  the numbers have reversed to a 49/42 Republican advantage.   Moreover Democrats are now even ... The Foundation

"Every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names brethren of the same principle." --Thomas Jefferson

Editorial Exegesis

"For all of his struggles as a campaigner, Mitt Romney doesn't lack for resilience. That character trait is essential in a President, and Mr. Romney proved again Tuesday that he has it by winning primaries in Arizona and in an especially rough contest against Rick Santorum in Michigan. Mr. Romney never makes it look easy, but as Hillary Clinton knows from 2008, victory beats the alternative. While narrow, Mr. Romney's triumph in Michigan was important in showing he could win his native state and in the Midwest. ... Mr. Romney also improved his case for his own candidacy, stressing a reform agenda as much as his business biography. In the final days in particular, he pressed his new plan for a 20% across-the-board income tax cut, as well as Medicare reform. He stressed his ability to revive the economy, which remains the dominant issue even among conservatives, despite the prominence of social issues in the last week. ... The race moves on to Super Tuesday next week, and if past is prologue it is far from over. The media are already predicting that no Republican can defeat Mr. Obama, despite his low approval rating and 8.3% unemployment, and many GOP hand-wringers seem to agree. But most of the American public hasn't begun to pay close attention, much less decided to re-elect this President. The candidates can help themselves if they stop playing the game of who-is-the-real-conservative? They are all conservatives of one stripe or another. GOP voters want to hear a critique of Mr. Obama, but above all they want to hear an agenda and vision for a better future that can rally a majority to defeat him." --The Wall Street Journal

Does Romney's Tuesday sweep seal the deal or is the battle just getting started?

Upright

"Romney came back to edge Rick Santorum in his home state that he won handily in 2008. ... [I]n the end, he won (and out in Arizona, won overwhelmingly). ... Although [Santorum's] message has been pitched to working-class voters, it's not clear whether it has hit home. ... He and Romney are a study in contrasts. Santorum the widely dismissed underdog versus Romney the frontrunner; Santorum's shoestring operation against Romney's proficient organization; Santorum's passionate and sometimes blustery stump performances and interviews in contrast Romney's buttoned-up-to-a-fault presentations. Santorum's gaffes are a product of speaking his mind, Romney's of straining too much to connect. Ohio on Super Tuesday next week will be a fairer test between the two candidates, since Romney won't have a home-field advantage." --National Review's Rich Lowry

"According to the Institute for Energy Research, there is enough natural gas in the U.S. to meet electricity demand for 575 years at current fuel demand, enough to fuel homes heated by natural gas for 857 years and more gas in the U.S. than there is in Russia, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and some place called Turkmenistan combined. Oil? The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that the United States could soon overtake Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world's top oil producer. ... Yet in the end, high gas prices are part of the plan. This is what the administration wants." --columnist David Harsanyi

"We'd almost feel sorry for Mr. Obama's gas-price predicament if it weren't a case of rough justice. The President has deliberately sought to raise the price of energy throughout the economy via his cap-and-trade agenda. He is now getting his wish, albeit a little too overtly for political comfort. Mr. Obama has also spent three years blaming George W. Bush for every economic ill. If Mr. Obama now feels frustrated by economic events beyond his control, perhaps he should call Mr. Bush for consolation." --The Wall Street Journal

"Courts have consistently concluded that 'gross' disparities are probative of a pattern and practice of discrimination. So what to do? One remedy that Congress might consider is to require females, who are overrepresented in fields such as preschool and kindergarten teaching, to become boilermakers and brickmasons and mandate that male boilermakers and brickmasons become preschool and kindergarten teachers until both of their percentages are equal to their percentages in the population. You say, 'Williams, that would be totalitarianism!' But if Americans accept that Congress can make us buy health insurance whether we want to or not, how much more totalitarian would it be for Congress to allocate jobs in the name of social equality and the good of our nation?" --economist Walter E. Williams

Insight

"The problems in the world today are so enormous they cannot be solved with the level of thinking that created them." --theoretical physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

"There should be a tax on every man that wanted to get a government appointment, or be elected to office. In two years that tax alone would pay our national debt." --American humorist Will Rogers (1879-1935)

The Demo-gogues

About values: "America's not just [about] looking out for yourself, it's not just about greed, it's not just about trying to climb to the very top and keep everybody else down. ... Hard work, that's a value. Looking out for one another, that's a value. The idea that we're all in it together and [that] I'm my brother's keeper and [my] sister's keeper, that's a value." --Barack Obama

Change: "I'm here to tell [Republicans] they are wrong about America. Because in America we understand -- yes, we're rugged individuals. Yes, we don't expect a handout. But we also understand we are greater together than we are on our own." --Barack Obama

Pot, meet kettle: "Just like they did last year, gas prices are starting to climb. ... Now, some politicians always see this as a political opportunity. ... Step one is drill, step two is drill, and step three is keep drilling. ... Well the American people aren't stupid. You know that's not a plan -- especially since we're already drilling. It's a bumper sticker. It's not a strategy to solve our energy challenge. It's a strategy to get politicians through an election." --Barack Obama

Heaven forbid: "[M]y presidency is not over. I've got another five years coming up." --Barack Obama

Faith matters: "[N]inety-eight percent of women in childbearing age who are Catholic use contraception. Ok, so in practice the church has not enforced this and now they want the federal government and private insurance to enforce it. It just isn't consistent to me."-- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

What Constitution? "Well, basically, we're not looking to the Constitution on that aspect of [government being allowed to require organizations to provide free services]. What I'm trying to say is basically the decision has been made by this congress that American citizens are entitled to health care." --Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY)

Dezinformatsia

Civility, Exhibit A: "Republicans, you vile, repulsive, scum. You're not leading this country. You're not contributing to this country. You're not even part of this country. You are the maggot-ridden rot that arises in this country's damaged flesh; you are the vultures constantly picking at us to see if we're weak enough yet to become your next meal; you create problems where none would otherwise exist, just to further weaken America and quicken your own insatiable appetites; you are garbage, and you are traitors. And you are not welcome in this country anymore." --Daily Kos blogger Troubadour

Civility, Exhibit B: "[W]hat a waste of an education Rick Santorum is! ... Let's just pray that none of his home-schooled kids grow up to be an airline pilot, okay? That's all I'm asking. Please dear God, do not let any of these home-schooled kids grow up to be a surgeon, an airline pilot, or a nurse. Or somebody that's in charge of my trans-vaginal mandatory ultrasound. Seriously, no science-y things for them, you know, just religion, let them be all preachers or something." --talk radio-host Randi Rhodes

Civility, Exhibit C: "Remember earlier in the campaign when Newt Gingrich was worrying everyone about Sharia law: the Muslims were going to impose Sharia law in America? Sometimes Santorum sounds like he's creeping up on a Christian version of Sharia law." --Time columnist Bill Keller

That's racist! "Boy, the thing is, you play to what you've got. And what the Republicans have is an awful lot of scared white people in their party. And one of the things they're most scared about is people of different colors and ethnicities and, you know, backgrounds polluting their white picket fence sense of America." --Time magazine's Joe Klein

Credit where it isn't due: "While President Obama may not be Wall Street's ideal candidate, stock prices are rising on growing expectations he will be re-elected this November." --CNBC's John Melloy

Village Idiots

It's Bush's fault: "The president made clear when he was a candidate for this office and when he took this office, that unfortunately prior to his taking office, because of the focus on Iraq, and the U.S. efforts there, that the original war, if you will, in Afghanistan had been neglected, the strategy there was unclear, and that it was not properly resourced." --Jay Carney, desperate for an excuse for this administration

Revisionist history: "[W]hat you don't hear from these [GOP] candidates is that they really can't go after this president on domestic production of oil and gas. He's actually done quite a lot. In fact, I would suspect they're environmentalists who are worried that we're doing too much drilling and fracking, in fact. I know that for a fact." --Jared Bernstein, former economic policy adviser to Joe Biden

On religious liberty: "People who cry moral indignation about government-mandated contraception coverage appear unwilling to concede that the exercise of their deeply held convictions might infringe on the rights of millions of people who are burdened by unplanned pregnancy or want to reduce abortion or would like to see their tax dollars committed to a different purpose. ... At a minimum, the Catholic bishops and employers resisting contraceptive coverage should be willing to pay for the care of all those unwanted children. Or perhaps they'd be willing to spend some time in jail in protest." --Harvard administrator Erika Christakis, arguing that because a woman didn't buy or use contraceptives (or they failed) before having un-wed sexual intercourse and ending up pregnant, Catholic bishops should go to jail

No cuts, just tax more: "[I]f you don't try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don't ask, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to -- the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security." --Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner

Non Compos Mentis: "[I]t's an honor to be a food stamp president. Food stamps feed the hungry. Food stamps save the children. Food stamps help the farmer. Food stamps help the truck driver. Food stamps help the warehouse. Food stamps help the store. Food stamps hire people and feed people. Food stamps save people from starvation and malnutrition. ... Give President Barack Obama a big hand. Show your love. Show your appreciation." --Jesse Jackson

Short Cuts

"Richard Dawkins says he can't be sure God doesn't exist. Well, you know what I do when I'm not sure about something? I go on a big crusade about it and write a bunch of books on the subject. No, wait, that sounds more like what someone with a mental disorder would do. That's one of the crazy things about lots of atheists: They're whole movement is supposed to be about being logical and reasonable, yet they tend to rail against religion is a very mindless way that doesn't seem to serve any more purpose than a tantrum. Perhaps I just don't understand their strong faith in not having faith." --humorist Frank J. Fleming

"Iran cut off oil exports to its six biggest European customers in retaliation for the EU's vow to stop buying oil from Iran. Oil prices soared. Gasoline is so expensive in L.A. that police pulled over a van on the freeway yesterday with fifty legal Americans in it." --comedian Argus Hamilton

"Due to the rising price of oil and gas, the Obama administration announced today they are considering dipping into our national strategic re-election reserves. I mean, I'm sorry -- strategic oil reserves." --comedian Jay Leno

"In Florida, a man was arrested after he dropped his gun during an attempted robbery and returned to the scene to try buying it back from the victims. Now THERE'S an 'Obama 2012' metaphor." --Fred Thompson

Obama loves Chevy Volt

Obama loves the Chevy Volt! Of course, the Secret Service won't let him actually drive one, possibly because they are incredibly unsafe and unreliable and tend to burst into flames when used. But other than that, pretty cool! The President and the tens of tens of Americans who have also bought one can attest to just how cool they are! Glenn's take on the Volt HERE.

6 Hours in Greece - TOMORROW: A few weeks ago when Glenn visited the Vatican to meet with high ranking Catholic officials, he decided to make a last minute visit to Athens, Greece. What he saw there was a scary preview of what could be coming to the rest of the world as socialism grows and spreads. This mini-documentary of Glenn's visit will be airing tomorrow during the Glenn Beck Program (live at 5pm or on demand) on GBTV.

Irony alert: Obama accuses others of rewriting history

This is a pretty hi-larious claim coming from the guy whose wife literally says it's time to rewrite history and change our traditions. Maybe Obama is just mad because others are rewriting what he wanted to rewrite? That is unclear, but what is clear is that Barack Obama is sleeping with the unions. Why is Obama upset? Find out HERE.

Glenn's epic takedown of the female Wilt Chamberlain

This contraception debate is getting wildly out of control. The latest from a student speaking out in support of the healthcare mandate is just mind boggling. She talks about how her college must pay for her birth control and claims she needs enough to cover the equivalent of 3 sexual encounters per day. That means this student is having sex at a rate that would make Wilt Chamberlain very proud. This student should have never taken the mic - but she did, and the result is an epic radio segment. Romney wins - but was it a win?

Rick Santorum saw his momentum come to a grinding halt when Mitt Romney squeaked out a victory in his home state of Michigan. But despite losing by 3% in the popular vote, Santorum is dead even with Romney in delegate count (13 to 13) with 4 still yet to be finalized. Does it matter? Does Romney's popular vote win crush the momentum no matter what the delegate count is? Glenn has more on radio today.
