Mideast Expert Phares: Obama Turns Blind Eye to Iranian Peril

By Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter | Tuesday, 21 Feb 2012

Middle East expert Walid Phares tells Newsmax that the Obama administration is not convinced that the Iranians pose a serious danger - even as a top Iranian official declared that his country is prepared to launch a pre-emptive strike.

Phares, while noting that he believes the Iranian quest for nuclear weapons is "not stoppable," also says a resolution passed in the U.S. Senate last week is a "message to the administration" that it is time to confront the Islamic republic before it obtains such weapons.

Coincidentally, Phares' remarks in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV on Tuesday came on the same day that an Iranian official vowed that his country would take pre-emptive action against its enemies if it felt its national interests were endangered.

The bad news is last month some well intentioned political activist announced a cut-off date for signing up co-sponsors for Rep. Rose Marie Swanger's American Law's for American Courts (HB 2029) in an effort to inject some urgency into the effort.

What it resulted in was an interruption of the campaign to encourage those Representatives not yet signed on as co-sponsors to join with those Legislators who have already recognized the death by smothering threat to our Constitution.

The good news is there is no cut-off date for adding co-sponsors and we are once again asking your readers to contact their representatives and ask they join the battle.

There are only three Representatives from Bucks who are co-sponsors, Representatives Clymer, Petri and Quinn and we thank them for showing their colors.

But that leaves seven more Representatives who appear to be still standing on the sidelines as the battle for our existence as a free people is joined.

Lame rhetoric? I'm afraid not. If you do not understand the threat we face from 'peaceful' opportunists like CAIR, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/messages or contact me at bucksafa11@yahoo.com to schedule an Open the Koran presentation for you and your friends.

If you're ready to help, visit www.actforamerica.org and sign on as a chapter leader. It's free and the people there are friendly and helpful. Your help is needed. Every township, every neighborhood needs an Act! for America chapter leader.

But before you do anything, if your Pennsylvania Representative has not yet ssigned on as co-sponsor, urge her/him to do so and ask what is it that prevents him/her from doing so.

Help Pennsylvania be counted among those States that have shown the courage to face off with the enemies who have plainly stated their aim is to destroy our Nation. Our laws have worked just fine since colonial times. What is needed are politicians who respect them. And you know whose job it is to remind them of that.

Americans for Prosperity

hand off jy health care!March 23rd, 2012, marks an important and unfortunate anniversary. It will have been exactly two years since President Obama forced his unpopular health care takeover onto the American people. Americans for Prosperity has educated the public about the dangers of government interference in the health care market for the past several years, and now the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments and make a ruling on that very issue. As you are most likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering the constitutionality of several elements of the President's health care bill. This may be our best chance to overturn this offense against our health care freedoms. That's why Americans for Prosperity will be hosting a Hands Off My Health Care rally for free-market grassroots activists from across the country at the Supreme Court on March 27th. Details can be found below.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Heritage Foundation The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID

"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere.
My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why?

Louis:
Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934).
The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward.
I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered.
Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters.

Voter Cheating

You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian.
Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.

Background

There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:

a)     12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934

Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand.
I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...

b)     Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID

"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well.
"It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."

c)      Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)

Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh)
"Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918.
"Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

d)     Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler:  No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)

"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens.
"I can vote twenty-two times.
"You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? (Although, in fairness, dead people should only be able to vote once).
http://pawatercooler.com/v3/?tag=philadelphia-voter-fraud

e)     11/7/2011, PA ACORN Lives

"Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include:
* Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate)
* Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman)
* Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in
ACORN's 2005 annual report)
* Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with
Justice)
* Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA)
* Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA)
* Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson)
Action United is located  at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org.
http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2011/acornspecialreport08222011.pdf

There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project.
There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor.
Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's:
"The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/
There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs:

"Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night.
"The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29...
A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement.
"He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..."
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/

What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"?
Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November.
On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things.
The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

PA implementing ObamaCare exchanges

I wanted to update you on the exchange situation.  First, unfortunately we are getting started late in the game.  Having spoken with 4 different legislators (Rep Saylor, Boyd, Bear, and Sen Waugh), I believe the general sense on their part is that they want to be prepared to set up an exchange if SCOTUS doesn't  declare ObamaCare unconstitutional.

Their reasoning for supporting the exchange is that PA will have more control if PA sets up the exchange rather than the feds.  We have been arguing that in fact: the exchange structure and operation is dictated by the feds, through law and regulation, regardless if the state sets it up or not; that whatever little "control" a PA would have does not mitigate any of the true horrors of the law; establishing the exchange legitimizes PPACA and undercut PA's federal lawsuit against PPACA, creates more PA expense and government, scedes state sovereignty, misses an opportunity to block the law and to have standing for further legal action.  (please see attached documents if you want more explanation).

We have more legislator visits planned, but it is clear to me that none of the legislators thus far will take on this fight.  We must generate the grass roots response to move them to do so.  It is disgusting that our Republican Governor and legislature can't pass meaningful right to work legislation, LCB reform, PA TPK Commission reform, school reform, etc but unless we respond in a big way, will make PA government bigger, make PA government poorer, harm PA citizen liberty and health by implementing an exchange.

I have contacted Campaign for Liberty to see if they are interested in coordinating efforts to stop the exchange.  I will also contact the PA Manufacturer's Association and the Chamber of Commerce, both of whom support repeal of PPACA, also for potential coordination of activities.

We are working on an on-line petition rejecting PPACA and the exchanges for PA physicians to sign and ultimately deliver by several physicians to Harrisburg.

On Wednesday, I participated in a debate put on by the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Health Care Reform (Donna Rovito).  Leo Knepper and I presented the anti-exchange positition while a rep from the PA Dept of Insurance and Dr Schmeltz of the PA Medical Society presented the for pro position.  For what it is worth, I believe we had the more compelling argument.

I welcome any thought you all have.

This exchange is going to happen unless we act together in a big way.

We have an amazing opportunity before us today, to score a BIG WIN for taxpayers and small businesses...but we can't do it without your help!

Please click here to send an email to your Representative and tell him or her to vote yes on the prevailing wage reform bills before the House today!

At 1pm, our PA Legislators are voting to amend the prevailing wage laws that have long favored unions and hurt working families and small businesses!

Could you please email your legislator right now and ask him or her to vote YES on two prevailing wage reform bills: H.B. 1329 ("Threshold") and H.B. 1685 ("Jobs Classification")?

Our politicians must not only hear from the unions...they must hear from YOU and I...the people who bear the burden of paying for these bills!

Here's a quick overview of the bills:

The "Jobs Classification Bill" will require Pennsylvania to define job classifications on public works projects. The lack of definitions has been used by some unions to attack and file frivolous grievances against small business owners, costing Pennsylvania jobs and tax dollars.

The "threshold bill" will end the artificially low estimated cost of total project from $25,000 to conform to the Consumer Price Index of the previous calendar year. The current amount was based on the 1963 Consumer Price Index and allowed prevailing wage to kick in at too low a threshold making it a costly endeavor for school districts and municipalities to fund minor projects.

Will you please ask your legislator to vote "YES" to H.B. 1329 ("Threshold") and H.B. 1685 ("Jobs Classification")? Don't miss this chance to score a win for the taxpayers and small businesses of Pennsylvania!

Thank you for all your hard work!

In Liberty and Solidarity,

Jennifer Stefano

PS - These two bills are going on our legislative scorecard and every Representative will be graded on their vote.

Obama's mandate requiring Catholic institutions to provide contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs to employees, through their insurers, has been widely condemned as an assault on religious freedom.

What's overlooked is the connection between the contraceptive diktat and population control spurred by the president's anti-global-warming crusade. Obama is a radical environmentalist who has embraced the dogma of man-made global warming. While climate-change alarmists rail at energy companies and consumerism, their real target is people - especially those who are having children.

According to this mindset, people are the ultimate pollutant. Humanity is in the midst of a population explosion which is driving us to ecological doom. More people means more energy use and the release of more greenhouse gases - causing the earth to warm, ice caps to melt and sea-levels to rise. Soon, polar bears in Hawaiian shirts will surf by Al Gore's oceanfront property in Tennessee.

The environmental degradation supposedly caused by humans is reflected in the catchphrase "carbon footprint" - shorthand for the notion that, over the course of his lifetime, an individual will generate so many tons of carbon-dioxide by driving cars, heating and cooling homes, flying in airplanes, consuming manufactured goods, etc.

The expression is used to induce guilt among those who do what comes naturally. When British football star David Beckham and his wife had their fourth child last summer, a U.K. outfit called the Optimum Population Trust had a hissy fit.

Simon Ross, the Trust's chief enviro-nag, berated the Beckhams as "very bad role models for having a large family." "There's no point in people trying to reduce their carbon emissions and then increasing them 100% by having another child," Ross fumed. "We need to change the incentives to make the environmental case that one or two children are fine (generous of him) but three or four are just being selfish." When leftists call for "changing incentives" to curb selfish behavior, they're talking about coercion - whether through tax codes, abortion, contraceptive mandates or state regulation of fertility, a la China.

There are carbon footprints all over Obama's contraceptive edict. The 44th president of the United States is embarking on a social engineering scheme to rival Stalin's forced famine of the 1930s.

Obama sees job-creation only in vibrant shades of green. (How Green Was My Jobs Program) In his 2009 stimulus packages, $38 billion was set aside for green jobs - jobs the market never would, never could generate on its own, because they make no economic sense. To date, each permanent green job, or con job, created with federal funding has cost taxpayers an astronomical $5 million. But money is no object when it comes to keeping the polar bears from melting and saving the arctic ice cap - or is it the other way around?

Obama's efforts to kill domestic energy production have resulted in a 100% increase in the price of gas at the pump since the Great Green Father assumed the mantle of leadership. Soaring gas prices, which force motorists to drive less, aren't an unintended consequence of Obama's war on energy development, but a key objective.

But even green jobs and artificially high energy costs are a sideshow. The main attraction is Obama's plan to combat carbon emissions with abortion and contraception - cutting greenhouse gasses by keeping people from being.

What James K. Polk was to Manifest Destiny, Barack Hussein Obama is to abortion. His first official act as president was to repeal the Mexico City Policy denying federal funding to family planning agencies that promote abortion.

Each year on its anniversary, he does homage to Roe v. Wade, reminding us of the grandeur of the Supreme Court ruling that's resulted in more than 55 million deaths since 1973. On January 23, the president declared that Roe wasn't just about "women's health and reproductive freedom" but the sacred principle "that the government should not intrude in family matters" - like forcing families to take one-size-fits-all health insurance?

Joe Biden is Barrack Obama without an internal control mechanism. Anything that comes into the void between his ears is immediately verbalized.

On a trip to China last year, Joe told the Politburo that he "fully understands" and wasn't about to "second guess" its hideous one-child policy, which is enforced by forced abortions and sterilization and has led to female infanticide. When the predictable furor erupted at home, the White House issued a statement to the effect that of course the vice president opposes these Hitlerian measures - which is exactly what he didn't say back in the People's Republic

To run the Department of Health and Human Services, the president tapped the most pro-abortion governor he could find - no mean feat with so many Democrats blowing kisses to Roe. As Kansas governor, Kathleen Sebelius vetoed every pro-life bill that landed on her desk, including limitations on late-term and partial-birth abortions - measures so modest as to call into question opponents' sanity. Obama voted against them as a member of the Illinois Senate.

In April 2007, Sebelius even threw a party in the governor's mansion honoring the late George Tiller, a notorious three-fifths infanticide abortionist. The foregoing caused Archbishop Joseph Naumann to take the extraordinary step of requesting that Sebelius, a CINO (Catholic In Name Only), "not present herself for communion." This is the ideologue the president chose to head the department which will be primarily responsible for implementing ObamaCare.

At the bottom of the slippery slope lurks John P. Holdren, Obama's mad science czar. Like Paul Ehrlich, the original environmental hysteric, Holdren is given to making doomsday predictions that sound like something from a Roland Emmerich movie ("The Day After I Completely Lost My Mind").

In 1986, the professor of environmental policy at Harvard's Kennedy School predicted that "carbon dioxide-induced famines could kill as many as a billion people before the year 2020." In the year 2012, humanity has never been better-fed.

Following in Al Gore's footsteps in the sand, in 2006, Holdren suggested that global warming could result in sea levels rising 13 feet by the end of the century - which is off by a factor of 10, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, itself given to gloomy forecasts

What concerned Republican senators most during Holdren's confirmation hearings was a 1977 book he co-authored with Paul and Anne Ehrlich, "Ecoscience," which mused that if people continued to breed irresponsibly (have children), it might be necessary for a "Planetary regime" to "regulate" population growth with an iron fist. The authors wrote "it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger society."

In 2010, James Jay Lee, who took hostages at the Discovery Channel to force it to broadcast his manifesto, explained it this way: "Saving the planet means saving what's left of the non-human wildlife by decreasing the human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding more disgusting human babies." If not for his timely exit from this planet, surely there would have been a place in the Obama administration for someone this creepy.

In an attempt to explain away the above-cited passage in his book, Holdren's office assured senators that the nominee didn't write it (apparently, the Ehrlichs slipped it in the manuscript unbeknownst to him), doesn't believe it and, besides, it was all speculative. And President Obama is unalterably opposed to government intruding in family matters.

This is the tip of the iceberg. Instead of the Titanic, it's the family which will sink beneath the waves if Obama is reelected. ObamaCare will become an anti-family super fund. Picture this: Insurance companies are told to cover abortion and contraception 100%, but, after the second child, provide no coverage for pregnancies - no prenatal or postnatal care, nothing for deliveries.

Any anti-natal/population-control toxin that can be depicted as a health or wellness measure will eventually be part of ObamaCare. The president's maniacal pursuit of a lethal cure for a non-existent problem will put the freeze on procreation.

RedState Morning Briefing

1. Gingrich & The Rick Perry Factor

It was the last debate. Newt Gingrich won it.

He was the only candidate who repeatedly steered the questions toward Barack Obama. He was the only candidate who dared point out that the media barely touched Obama's infanticide support as an Illinois State Senator. He returned to the role of elder statesman.

The crowd leaned to Mitt Romney. It was probably inevitable. Mesa, AZ is the second largest concentration of Mormons in America and the State Republican Party handled getting the seats filled. It threw Rick Santorum off his game. The crowd booed Santorum taking on Romneycare's individual mandate.

Santorum did not shine. He came in, it seemed, prepared to be beaten up. He was off his game. In the second half of the debate he did better. But the beginning was stumbling, bumbling, angry, and in the weeds. One thing he did very, very well is steer the contraception issue to families.

If Santorum can consistently steer this issue back to stable families, he has an issue that will win over independent voters. Note to the Santorum campaign: you will actually win the debate even in the general election if you focus your social values critique on the integrity of the American nuclear family.

Romney out performed Santorum, but he had two flaws. First, Romney claimed to be a long time proponent of school choice, but he opposed school vouchers as Governor of Massachusetts and the Boston Hereald noted Romney refused to ever meet with the head of the Massachusetts Charter School Association while in the Governor's Mansion.

The big problem for Romney was his concluding moment in the debate. John King asked him what was the biggest misconception about him. It was a legitimate question and a chance for Romney to help himself. Instead, he got bossy and arrogant and told John King he wouldn't answer the question. That question of all questions was the one he chose to get arrogant about?!

Newt Gingrich won. He kept the focus on Obama. He sounded like the adult in the room. He was both diplomat and scholar.

I would caution the media on one thing - the Rick Perry Factor.

2. Federal Judge Strikes a Blow Against Regulatory Fascism

Via the Becket Fund (.pdf) we are informed that a Federal Judge (the same judge who ruled in 2010 that DADT was unconstitutional and ordered an openly gay service member reinstated to the military) has struck down Washington state pharmacy regulations that can only accurately be described as fascistic. The regulations in question declared that no pharmacy in the State of Washington was permitted to refuse to dispense Plan B on conscience grounds. That's it; no requirement that the pharmacy be state funded (pharmacies, unlike hospitals, generally manage just fine without nurturing from the government teat), just a blanket law that you cannot refuse to dispense Plan B on conscience grounds. Keep in mind, you can refuse to dispense it because of business reasons (it's not profitable, no reliable source of supply), just not for conscience ones.

3. We are Losing the Tax Debate Even Though We're Right

Let me get something out of the way first: I get it. I understand. I know that 47% of the country pays no income tax and I am fully aware that that is unfair. I'm part of that 53% of taxpayers and I find it infuriating as well. We exist in a system that allows half of the country to vote against the other half's best interests. Half of the country can vote in ways to ensure that the other half pays bills that they don't have to pay. It's completely and utterly imbalanced and so far from what a free and just society would do as to be laughable.

That said, I propose a simple hypothesis that I think most people would agree with: We only change this disparity by getting more people to agree with us than disagree with us.

4. David Waldman of Daily Kos: Know-Nothing Bigot

It's time for Democratic politicians like Elizabeth Warren who are courting Catholic voters, or who - like Senator Bob Casey - profess the Catholic faith themselves, to distance themselves from Daily Kos over the anti-Catholic Know-Nothing bigotry of Contributing Editor David Waldman.

Waldman, @KagroX on Twitter, is one of the leading figures at Daily Kos, the largest left-wing blog; a former Hotline staffer, he's a contributing editor and front-page writer, runs the affiliated site Congress Matters, and his tweets are frequently quoted and retweeted by Markos Moulitsas. In an angry, profanity-laden tirade last night on Twitter over a flap between a local Virginia church and the Girl Scouts, Waldman unloaded his hatred of the Church, grasping for every anti-Catholic trope he could reach (examples: "Catholic Church: the ones we don't rape, we'll alienate by calling them communist b****es" or "Catholics are the next Shakers. No one under 35 will ever stay in this church") and complaining that there are too many Catholics on the Supreme Court ("Oh that's right. Six Catholics. Fantastic.") Waldman's vicious rant would have been right at home with the anti-popery screeds of the Klan in its heyday, the Know-Nothings of the 1840s or the "Rum, Romanism and Rebellion" trope that cost James G. Blaine the 1884 presidential election.

5. VA Governor Bob McDonnell Hangs VA GOP Out To Dry

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, a Romney supporter and leading contender for the VP spot on a Romney-headed ticket, demonstrated his complete philosophical alignment with Romney yesterday by flipflopping on a bill he has championed and in the process hanging VA GOP delegates out to dry.

For those who haven't been paying attention, Virginia's legislature has been going after the abortion industry root and branch. Last year they passed a law requiring aborttoirs to be regulated as if they did what they do: perform a surgical procedure which can be life threatening. This year a bill is being finalized that requires a woman seeking an abortion to see ultrasound pictures of the baby. Somehow this bill, which does not require any medical procedure the woman was not going to receive in the first place, has the pro-abortion lobby in a tizzy. Dahlia Lithwick at Slate has predictably styled this as rape.

Up until yesterday, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell had unconditionally supported the bill.

Hillsdale College

The U.S. Constitution

A Reader

Featuring 113 primary source documents, The U.S. Constitution: A Reader was developed for teaching the core course on the U.S. Constitution at Hillsdale College.

Divided into eleven sections with introductions by members of Hillsdale's Politics Department faculty, readings cover the principles of the American founding, the framing and structure of the Constitution, the secession crisis and the Civil War, the Progressive rejection of the Constitution, and the building of the administrative state based on Progressive principles.

About Hillsdale College

Hillsdale College is a private, coeducational, residential, liberal arts college with approximately 1,400 students. Founded in 1844, the College remains, in the words of its Articles of Association, "grateful to God for the inestimable blessings resulting from the presence of civil and religious liberty and intelligent piety" in our nation, and dedicated to "the diffusion of sound learning" that is "essential to the perpetuity of these blessings."

Hillsdale College is distinguished by its rigorous core curriculum, by its principled rejection of federal and state taxpayer funding, and by the pledge of its Board of Trustees to resists any attempts by the government to regulate its internal affairs.

Hillsdale College promotes the principles of liberty nationwide through its national speech digest, Imprimis, which has a monthly circulation of over 2 million, and through several outreach programs. In 2008, Hillsdale launched its Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C. The College will also launch the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship in fall 2012.

Netanyahu Visit Will Highlight Obama's Jewish Charm Offensive

During the first three years of the Obama administration, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visits to the White House have been the occasion for some memorable fights with the president. He has been ambushed, insulted, lectured and, on at least one occasion, gave back as good as he got as he pushed back against Obama's attempt to undercut Israel's negotiating position with the Palestinians and its rights in Jerusalem. But Netanyahu's next visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will probably be a very different one entirely. With the president fighting hard to retain the votes and the financial support of American Jews and other friends of Israel, Netanyahu can expect that Obama will be on his very best behavior when he arrives next month for a visit that was announced yesterday.

With the threat of a nuclear Iran hanging over both nations and with the United States eager to dissuade Israel from striking first on its own, the two men have some serious business to conduct. But it is impossible to ignore the political implications of this summit. With evidence mounting that Obama and the Democrats have been bleeding Jewish support in the last year, the visit will take the president's charm offensive aimed at convincing the Jewish community he is Israel's best friend to a new level. Netanyahu has good reason to play along with Obama's pretense, as he may have to go on dealing with him until January 2017. But the question remains whether the two men can sufficiently paper over their personal hostility and policy differences in order for the visit to have the effect the president's political handlers are aiming for.

Iran court convicts Christian pastor convert to death

By Lisa Daftari

Published February 22, 2012

| FoxNews.com

  • Yusuf Naderkhani and family

An undated photograph circulated by religious rights organizations shows Youcef Nadarkhani and his family.

A trial court in Iran has issued its final verdict, ordering a Christian pastor to be put to death for leaving Islam and converting to Christianity, according to sources close to the pastor and his legal team.

Supporters fear Youcef Nadarkhani, a 34-year-old father of two who was arrested over two years ago on charges of apostasy, may now be executed at any time without prior warning, as death sentences in Iran may be carried out immediately or dragged out for years.

It is unclear whether Nadarkhani can appeal the execution order.

Harvard, Jew haters, motherhood and Israel

February 19, 2012
Walt with students.jpg

This morning I received an e-mail alert from CAMERA that my alma mater, Harvard's Kennedy School of Government is hosting a two-day conference which essentially begins with the proposition that Israel has no right to exist. This isn't surprising. After all, the Kennedy School is home to my old professor Steve Walt. No one there batted a lash when he co-published his updated version of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion with University of Chicago's John Mearshimer.

Not only did Walt suffer no recrimination from his colleagues at Harvard when he first emerged a professional Jew basher. He suffered no recrimination when he used the controversy surrounding his book into a means of transforming himself into a celebrity Israel basher.

As I wrote in my recent column about mainstreaming Jew hatred, Walt and Mearshimer's book has enabled anti-Semites to emerge from under the rocks where they had been hiding and proudly announce that it is reasonable to discriminate against the Jewish people and side either actively or passively with those like the Iranian regime and the Sunni jihadists from Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood who openly call for the annihilation of the Jewish state and the Jewish people.

Two thoughts on the Harvard conference.

$6 Gas?

by Cowboy Byte | Posted on February 21, 2012

$6 Gas?Oil is plentiful as new discoveries continue to be made, natural gas exploration and production is up, the dollar has strengthened, it's an election year, and so gasoline prices are going which direction? Down? Well, no, according to the experts, gasoline prices are rising and could top $6 per gallon by summer.

Each of the above conditions usually results in lower prices at the gas pump. If supply goes up on constant demand, then price should at least remain steady or go down. As new discoveries are made then supply goes up and at constant demand, price should go down. Even as production lags discovery, markets build in the worldwide supply figures. Natural gas production is soaring allowing for cheaper substitution for oil.

Obama Giving Away Strategic American Islands to Russia

by V2A | Written on February 21, 2012

May 1881 US explorers approached Jeannette Island and Henrietta Island and claimed them for the United States. According to some US individuals, including the group State Department Watch, eight Arctic islands currently controlled by Russia, including Wrangel Island, are claimed by the United States. However, according to the United States Department of State no such claim exists. The USSR/USA Maritime Boundary Treaty, which has yet to be approved by the Russian Duma, does not address the status of these islands nor the maritime boundaries associated with them.

The Obama Administration is reportedly giving away Wrangell, Bennett, Jeannette and Henrietta islands in Alaska to Russia. The federal government drew the line to put these seven Alaskan islands on the Russian side.

Morning Bell: Religious Liberty Under Attack

Today is Ash Wednesday - the first day of Lent - the beginning of 40 days of prayer and fasting observed by Christians across the country, culminating in the Easter feast. Likewise in April, Jews will gather to celebrate Passover, one of many traditions observed under the religious freedom that the U.S. Constitution was designed to preserve. Now, though, that freedom is under direct attack by the very government that purports to represent the people, and that is but the first step in Obamacare's re-writing of America's blueprint.

This week, two more Christian colleges joined other religious institutions in fighting back against that attack when they filed lawsuits against the Obama Administration for imposing an anti-conscience mandate under Obamacare. The controversial regulation forces almost all employers to provide health insurance coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, contraceptives, and sterilization, without a co-pay.

Heritage's Sarah Torre writes that Geneva College, a private institution in Pennsylvania associated with the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, and Louisiana College, a small Southern Baptist school located in the middle of the state, have deeply held moral objections to the mandate and are left with no choice but to take their case to court:

Comparing America in freedom: to America in the chains of Obama's socialism

Feb 22, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

Since Barack Obama has no respect for America or Americans he will doubtlessly announce that the October 2012 unemployment rate is about 6.5% or some other ridiculous lie. Does it make any difference? Not really because he and the Charlie McCarthy dummy who is posing as our Vice President won't be able to survive the reality of what they have done to us since January 2009.

The problems Obama will face are growing not subsiding.

In just the last month the pump price of gasoline has risen .20 a gallon.  While this is bad enough, but it is still worse because it put the price at a level higher than it has been in February since 1981. The reason for the rise totally out of Obama's control; he can't lie his way out of it. The Iranians want to squeeze the Europeans who are already looking at $8.00 a gallon gas so they ... American Minute Feb. 21

By Bill Federer, staff writer

On FEBRUARY 21, 1848, John Quincy Adams suffered a stroke at his desk in the House chamber, shortly after making an impassioned speech against the Democrat plan of extending slavery to the Western territories won in the Mexican-American War. He died 2 days later without regaining consciousness. A bronze marker on the floor indicates where Adams' desk once stood, known as the "whispering spot" in Statuary Hall. John Quincy Adams was the only President to serve as a Congressman after having been President. Nicknamed Old Man Eloquent for speaking out against slavery, he offered a plan for its elimination. In 1841, John Qunicy Adams defended before the Supreme Court 53 Africans who had mutinied aboard the slave ship Amistad, gaining them their freedom. As African slaves were purchased at Muslim slave markets, John Quincy Adams wrote in his "Essay on Turks" (1829): "The natural hatred of the Mussulmen towards the infidels is ... Ignore subsidiarity, pay the price

Feb 21, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Jerry Todd,  staff writer

I met my neighbor Rus Walton in 1974 before a financial disaster moved us from our lovely country home near Sacramento. We also enjoyed some of Governor Ronald Reagan's staff. Rus gave me a copy of his new book, "One Nation Under God." Rus ran The Plymouth Rock Foundation for many years and was a noted Christian speaker and prolific writer.

People of faith have understood the principle of subsidiarity for a long, long time. It just means taking personal responsibility. When needed, the hierarchy of assistance offered or given begins with the family; then the community; the state; the national government, and in major disasters, the nations. Key to subsidiarity is the higher up the ladder help comes from, the less time the higher entity is involved. Coupled with the solidarity of "e pluribus unum" a successful society is created and maintained. As "progressives" gained power, their penchant for top down control ... FORSYTHE and SMITH: Disclosing the abortion-suicide association

It's time to lift the veil on hidden health risks of terminating pregnancy

By Clarke Forsythe and Mailee Smith

-

The Washington Times

Monday, February 20, 2012

All 11 active judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit in St. Louis recently heard one of the most important abortion cases in the federal courts today. The case, Planned Parenthood v. Rounds, involves a South Dakota statute requiring informed consent before a woman undergoes an abortion. While many in the media have focused on the controversies surrounding President Obama's health care law, this case actually is one of the most significant events on the life issue today.

The hearing focused on what the courts have called "the suicide advisory": the statute's requirement that abortion providers give patients "a description of all known medical risks of the procedure and statistically significant risk factors ... including ... depression [and] increased risk of suicide ideation and suicide."

This case is the latest example of how the lower federal courts repeatedly have tied up reasonable abortion regulations for years, preventing the regulations from taking effect, even when there is direct language from prior Supreme Court decisions supporting the purpose of the law.

Obama's Law of Contraception

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published February 22, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

I have frequently discussed in this column the concept of Calculated Deception. That is President Obama's practice of taking advantage of what he calculates average people don't know, and what the Democratic Party-controlled media won't tell them, to mislead them into thinking and believing what will most benefit him politically. That practice is now spreading across the entire Democrat party.

We are seeing this play out now in particularly ugly fashion in regard to the fabricated issue of contraception. President Obama, the Democrats, and their party-controlled press are play-acting as if the Republicans are campaigning to ban contraception. That is their interpretation of Republican opposition to President Obama's mandate forcing Catholic institutions to provide for their employees free contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization.

It is not just the Catholic Church. We will all now be forced to pay for free contraceptives for everybody -- and abortion, sterilization, and anything else Il Duce decides we must pay for -- through the individual and employer mandates of Obamacare. Prepare to dig into your pocket to pay for partial-birth abortions in a second Obama term. This fascist authoritarianism is what the Democrat party has given us in the Obamacare legislation they undemocratically crammed down our throats, when they temporarily held the last Congressional Democrat majorities in U.S. history.

Math Matters

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published February 22, 2012 on Townhall.com.

If one manages to graduate from high school without the rudiments of algebra, geometry and trigonometry, there are certain relatively high-paying careers probably off-limits for life -- such as careers in architecture, chemistry, computer programming, engineering, medicine and certain technical fields. For example, one might meet all of the physical requirements to be a fighter pilot, but he's grounded if he doesn't have enough math to understand physics, aerodynamics and navigation. Mathematical ability helps provide the disciplined structure that helps people to think, speak and write more clearly. In general, mathematics is an excellent foundation and prerequisite for study in all areas of science and engineering. So where do U.S. youngsters stand in math?

Drs. Eric Hanushek and Paul Peterson, senior fellows at the Hoover Institution, looked at the performance of our youngsters compared with their counterparts in other nations, in their Newsweek article, "Why Can't American Students Compete?" (Aug. 28, 2011), reprinted under the title "Math Matters" in the Hoover Digest (2012). In the latest international tests administered by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, only 32 percent of U.S. students ranked proficient in math -- coming in between Portugal and Italy but far behind South Korea, Finland, Canada and the Netherlands. U.S. students couldn't hold a finger to the 75 percent of Shanghai students who tested proficient.

Voter Fraud in This Life and the Next

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published February 20, 2012 in The Washington Times.

Did you know that according to a new Pew study, more than 1.8 million dead people are registered to vote? And that leading Democrats are fiercely opposing new laws that tighten voting requirements?

This tells us, just as we suspected, that the zombie population is becoming a major Democratic constituency.

No wonder the leading lights of the left contend - without a shred of evidence - that Republican-led legislatures are enacting photo ID laws to "suppress" the minority vote. Zombies have rights, too, you know. And minorities can't be expected to do the same simple things everyone else does in order to vote, such as show a photo ID. They're just, well, incapable, according to Democrats, who accuse anyone who disagrees with them of being racist.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 258 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Tune In Tonight

Tune in to CNN tonight to watch the final Republican presidential debate before next week's key Arizona and Michigan primaries, as well as Super Tuesday on March 6th.

There is a lot at stake in tonight's debate. Can Rick Santorum keep his momentum surging with a strong performance? Can Mitt Romney reinforce his front-runner status? Or will Newt Gingrich regain his footing and once again become a serious force in the primary?

I am rooting for Senator Santorum, who I have endorsed and who is currently being savaged by the Obama campaign and its media allies. Quite frankly, I think Santorum scares the left in America because they know he can bring working class voters to the conservative banner and defeat Obama in November.

Tune in tonight at 8:00 PM ET.

Adelson Doubles Down

For the moment the race appears to be a two-man contest between Senator Rick Santorum and Governor Mitt Romney. In the national polls, Santorum leads Romney 34% to 28%, while Speaker Gingrich and Congressman Paul are at 14% and 12% respectively. The results are similar in Arizona and Michigan too, where Santorum and Romney are polling significantly better than Gingrich or Paul.

But Newt Gingrich isn't likely to drop out anytime soon. In fact, his campaign has just purchased 30-minute blocks of airtime in upcoming primary states featuring a speech on energy independence. That's a big bet for someone running so far down in the polls. But Newt has an ace up his sleeve: Sheldon Adelson.

The wealthy casino magnate has been bankrolling a pro-Gingrich "super PAC" to the tune of $10 million already. Adelson says, "I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich." That's small change for Adelson, who is worth an estimated $25 billion. As long as Adelson keeps his checkbook open, Newt will likely keep running.

Let me say this in Adelson's defense: Reasonable conservatives can and do disagree about which candidate would be the best person to nominate. But we all agree that Obama must go. In a recent interview with Forbes, Adelson explained why he is so willing to put his money on the line:

"What scares me is the continuation of the socialist-style economy we've been experiencing for almost four years. ... the redistribution of wealth is the path to more socialism, and to more of the government controlling people's lives. ...

"I see that the things that made this country great are now being relegated into duplicating that which is making other countries less great. ... I'm afraid of the trend where more and more people have the tendency to want to be given instead of wanting to give. People are less willing to share. There are fewer philanthropists being grown and there are greater expectations of the government. I believe that people will come to their senses and not extend the current Administration's quest to socialize this country. It won't be a socialist democracy because it won't be a democracy."

If you need an example of what Adelson is talking about and why it is so important that we take back the White House and the Senate this November, click here to see yet another top Obama adviser making the absurd argument that unemployment benefits stimulate the economy. America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama!

"The Power To Tax Is The Power To Destroy"

It is a well-regarded economic principle that if you want more of something you subsidize it to promote it, and if you want less of something you tax it to penalize it. Today's Wall Street Journal has crunched the numbers on Obama's latest budget and it seems that Obama's tax increases, particularly on dividends, are intended to destroy wealth creation in America. Consider this excerpt from the Journal's editorial:

"Mr. Obama is proposing to raise the dividend tax rate to the higher personal income tax rate of 39.6% that will kick in next year. Add in the planned phase-out of deductions and exemptions, and the rate hits 41%. Then add the 3.8% investment tax surcharge in ObamaCare, and the new dividend tax rate in 2013 would be 44.8% -- nearly three times today's 15% rate.

"Keep in mind that dividends are paid to shareholders only after the corporation pays taxes on its profits. So assuming a maximum 35% corporate tax rate and a 44.8% dividend tax, the total tax on corporate earnings passed through as dividends would be 64.1%."

We've been down this road before. Higher capital gains and dividend taxes yield lower revenues because they discourage and punish investment. Lower tax rates yield greater revenues because they encourage investment. It is playing out right now in England, where a higher tax on the "rich" has generated far less revenue than anticipated.

It's not a complicated concept to grasp -- unless you are a committed socialist who ignores sound economic policy in favor of abstract concepts like "fairness" or "spreading the wealth around." (Who could that be?)

But even worse, this massive new tax hike would disproportionally impact seniors and retirees, many of whom live off of investment income. And because interest rates are so low right now, many have been forced to invest in dividend-paying stocks. According to IRS data "Almost three of four dividend payments go to those over the age of 55, and more than half go to those older than 65."

As the Journal concludes, Obama's wealth-destroying, job-killing policies to soak the rich "will drench almost all American families." Obama's socialism will destroy this country, just as similar policies have brought Greece and much of Europe to the brink of bankruptcy and worse.

Will Supreme Court Punt On ObamaCare?

Our friends at FreedomWorks reported this morning about a disturbing development that could lead the Supreme Court to delay a final decision on ObamaCare until 2016. Yes, you read that right.

It is just speculation at this point, but the justices have increased the amount of time they have allotted for oral arguments, specifically on whether the mandate is a tax. (You may recall that I addressed this issue in last Wednesday's report.)

Now here's the concern: "First enacted in 1867, the Tax Anti-Injunction Act sweepingly forbids any court from hearing any case in which any person attempts to prevent the assessment or collection of a tax. Once the tax has been assessed and collected, however, a court may hear a case on it. ...The first time the IRS can levy the mandate penalty/tax won't be until folks file their tax returns, in mid-April 2015. The slow judicial process will likely delay a final Supreme Court ruling until mid-2016."

We will keep you posted.

Oath Keepers
February 22, 2012

One of the reasons I started this organization is because of what I saw happen during Hurricane Katrina, where active duty police and military directly violated the right of the people to keep and bear arms by confiscating the weapons of law abiding citizens who were simply trying to defend themselves.  Sadly, even during a Republican administration, on President Bush's watch, those who swore an oath to defend the Constitution violated it wholesale by that egregious disarming of the citizens of New Orleans.  That was a serious wake-up call for those of us who take our oath seriously.

And that is why the very first order that we declare we will not obey - number one on our list - is:

1. We will NOT obey any order to disarm the American people.

You can read the full declaration of orders we will not obey here LINK

You can watch the video version here.   LINK (or insert video).

I invite you to explore our main site, at www.oathkeepers.org and also our sister project at www.operationsleepinggiant.com.  However, one of the best ways to get to know what we are about is to also watch the following videos:

Thankfully there were some during Katrina that DID NOT obey those orders, and did not participate in the disarmament of the people:

Watch the Video Interview Here

We know that wholesale gun confiscation happened during Hurricane Katrina.  We watched the Chief of Police of New Orleans declare on national television that "no one [no private citizen] will be able to be armed, we're going to take all the weapons."  We watched an old lady

being tackled in her own kitchen and disarmed.

In fact, that atrocious event was one of the reasons I started Oath Keepers.  But I also knew, from my service as an Army paratrooper, that there are men and women of courage, honor, and integrity in the military who would refuse to obey such orders.  My goal with Oath Keepers is simply to increase their numbers and harden their resolve.   But when it came to Katrina, we did not have concrete proof that some said no - until now.

A Stand-Up Example from Katrina Emerges    On Friday May 14, 2010, I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Staff Sergeant (SSG) Joshua L. May of the Utah National Guard who told me how he, along with the other men in his military intelligence unit, refused to participate in any gun confiscation while deployed to assist during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

I finally discovered SSG May and his story only because after a speech I gave in Logan Utah on May 13, 2010, a local resident, Farley Anderson, walked up and told me about what SSG May had done.  Upon hearing of it, I knew I just had to talk to him, so I had Mr. Anderson track down SSG May's number and I called him at 11pm and invited him to breakfast the next morning.  Until that night, SSG May hadn't even heard of Oath Keepers (which is ironic since he is a shining example of an oath keeper).   We met for the first time that next morning, Friday, May 14, 2010.   During breakfast, SSG May told me his story, and then I asked him if we could go outside and do a video interview in the restaurant parking lot.  He agreed that his story needed to be told and the above video is the result.

East German Army Officer (and now American Oath Keeper!) Tells How the East German Military Refused Unlawful Orders to Crush Protests, Stood Down, and Led to the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

In this remarkable interview, Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes speaks with Gunter Spens, now a member of Texas Oath Keepers, who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the East German Army when communism collapsed and the Berlin Wall came down in 1989.  LTC Spens tells how the East German military refused unlawful orders given by the Communist Party to crush peaceful mass protests and simply stood down, staying on the base.  Without the support of the military, the communist party and their Stasi secret police were powerless and could no longer oppress the people. As we have always said, no government on earth can oppress the people without the support of the military, and a government's secret police, however feared they had been in the past, cannot stand against the mass of the people when the military withdraws its support.  In East Germany, once the military refused orders to stop the mass protests on November 7, 1989, Stasi secret police knew the gig was up and stripped off their uniforms, trying to melt into crowds or pretending to be normal soldiers.  Two days later, the Berlin Wall fell.  LTC Spens describes what it was like to live under Communism, where they had a constitution on paper, but not in reality because the communist party ran everything and through its secret police, the Stasi, kept everyone under its thumb.

He describes how back in 1968, during the Prague Spring in Czechoslovakia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prague_Spring) , some East German military officers refused to invade Czechoslovakia because it violated their oath, which was to defend the Constitution and the people of East Germany, and their Army regulations also prohibited violations of the international laws of war, and they were convinced that invading Czechoslovakia was not in defense of the nation, and was in violation of international law.  Unfortunately, at that time the Communist Party was so strong, and had such a lock down on the military and all of society, that those brave officers were simply "disappeared" as happened to millions under Communism.

When Positive and Negative Rights Collide
The birth control battle is another reminder that entitlements and freedoms do not coexist well, even if we set aside the economic issues, because entitlements end up intruding into the spaces of freedoms. As the United States undergoes the process that replaces the negative right to be left alone with the positive right to be taken care of in every way possible, these conflicts will only worsen.

Americans are getting a taste of life in Europe where social benefits trump individual freedoms, where artificial rights to various government administered benefits and subsidies, along with the protection of national values and social harmony, serve to eliminate most of what Americans have traditionally considered freedom.

While negative rights create safe spaces from outside intervention, positive rights offer a privilege that is overseen by the government. Positive rights are inevitably concerned with social welfare and harmony. They offer universal benefits at the cost of individual liberties.

Every negative right has a mirror image positive right. Freedom of speech meets its evil twin in the right not to be offended by bigotry. Freedom of religion has its evil twin in the imposition of a state religion. Property rights have their evil twin in wealth redistribution and this right is the wellspring of most of the social problems of the state.

The decay of the educational system has created a state of affairs where many can no longer distinguish between the statements, "Everyone has the right to speak their mind" and "Everyone has the right to a home." The inability to make that distinction marks the death of a free society as the former expresses a freedom relative to the state, the latter expresses an obligation on each person to the state.

When people can no longer tell the difference between the right to be left alone and the right to pay for someone else's home, the firewall between freedom and tyranny has successfully broken down. And the most effective way to devalue freedom is by presenting something more seductive in its place, a system that will take care of your needs, that will balance some remaining freedoms with a necessary amount of intrusion that will maximize the collective benefits and harmony of all.

Ariz. Sheriff Arpaio to Release Probe of Obama Birth Certificate

Tuesday, 21 Feb 2012

By John Bachman

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will release the results of an investigation into President Barack Obama's birth certificate on March 1. The Arizona lawman made the announcement in Maricopa County today at his hometown Republican Lincoln Day lunch and straw poll.

"I had about 250 tea party people, to sign a petition . . . came to me and asked their sheriff to investigate Obama and the birth certificate. So what should I do? Throw it in the waste basket and forget it like everybody else has done?" Arpaio told the crowd, according to a C-SPAN report.

"When I took this mission on, I took it on to possibly be able to clear the president. I was doing him a favor. We'll see what happens."

Dots connect: Obama agents snagged on birth control

Why did birth control suddenly appear out of the blue as a presidential campaign issue? WND has connected the dots, and has found that it's more like out of left field than out of the blue, with Obama's minions behind it all.

Comments unearthed from a 2008 speech about Satan's influence on America made Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum the target of derision and mockery today, but talk-radio host Michael Savage contends the former Pennsylvania senator is right, and his beliefs should only help his chances for the White House this fall.

And will a Fox News star be Ron Paul's VP?

As a variety of names are now being floated for presidential running mates, Republican candidate Ron Paul says this Fox News star might be at the top of his list.

He surely knows how to stir the pot of racial division. Our Tea Parties could care less what color a person is, so long as they adhere to traditional American values and control of government by the people; not control of the people by the government. If any Republican candidates went down that road, I'd say they're disqualified for the office. Disgusting.

The Patriot Post

Chronicle · February 22, 2012

The Foundation

"We should be unfaithful to ourselves if we should ever lose sight of the danger to our liberties if anything partial or extraneous should infect the purity of our free, fair, virtuous, and independent elections." --John Adams

Editorial Exegesis

Leftmedia-run debates are problematic

"The semiotic search for the racism beneath Newt's food-stamp line. The dismissal of 'the Constitution' in haughty air quotes. The wasting of primetime minutes pondering which wife would make the best first lady. The obsessive deposing of Romney on the legality of condoms. The condescending identity politics of carting out a token Latino to ask an immigration question. The dings. The bells. The buzzers. The Google Chat notification tones. ... These are just some of the lowlights of the umpteen Republican debates thus far. And ... they were all brought to us by the mainstream media. That's the same media that daily carry water for the Obama administration, approach the tea parties as anthropological curiosities, and persistently skew the public discourse leftward in ways large and small, conscious and unconscious. ... While dismantling the presuppositions of the political media is surely a skill a conservative president would do well to acquire, it does not rank with the ability to clearly and persuasively articulate a conservative policy vision for solving America's most pressing problems, or with the ability to display fiscal sobriety, strategic acumen, and strong instincts toward liberty when presented with new challenges, foreign and domestic. These abilities -- and not the ability to cleverly parry liberal inanities -- are what the primary debates are meant to test. ... [W]e favor the plan recently floated by Hugh Hewitt. Come the 2016 election season, the RNC should set the number, dates, and locations of debates. They should be fewer in number than the 20-odd we will see before this year is out, so that they are not so unduly agenda-setting. And the party should partner with local party officials, conservative think tanks, alternative media, tea-party groups, and grassroots organizations to determine formatting and questions. ... The alternative is to hope MSNBC and CNN come into the flock between now and 2016. Don't hold your breath." --National Review

Are you tired of the Leftmedia administering the GOP debates?

Upright

"The politicians are spending us into oblivion. But I can't blame only them. The American people are complacent. We like the goodies. We think we're getting something for nothing. We are like alcoholics who know we have a problem but just can't resist one last fix. One more infrastructure bill or jobs plan will jumpstart the economy. Then we'll kick our spending addiction once and for all. But we don't stop spending. Almost all budget categories grow, even when adjusted for inflation. ... So what do we do? We must cut. But I fear Americans aren't up for that. People on the street told me that the budget is out of control. But when I then asked them, 'What would you cut?' most just stared ahead. ... We're on the way to becoming Greece -- while our 'leaders' stand and watch." --columnist John Stossel

"High tax rates in the upper income brackets allow politicians to win votes with class warfare rhetoric, painting their opponents as defenders of the rich. Meanwhile, the same politicians can win donations from the rich by creating tax loopholes that can keep the rich from actually paying those higher tax rates -- or perhaps any taxes at all. What is worse than class warfare is phony class warfare. Slippery talk about 'fairness' is at the heart of this fraud by politicians seeking to squander more of the nation's resources." --economist Thomas Sowell

"[I]n Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron has introduced a bill seeking to partially privatize the National Health Service (NHS). Why? Because the British government is 'hoping to avoid a Greek-style financial meltdown.' ... UK healthcare costs are currently $194 billion per year and consume 18 percent of the UK's budget. The projected 'cuts' in spending for 2013 that have people up in arms? As of now, a $6 billion increase in spending to $200 billion. Much of the animus likely stems from the fact that Britain has grown used to massive amounts of healthcare spending that can no longer be sustained: between 2000 and 2010, the NHS budget doubled in real terms. Furthermore, British debt as a percentage of GDP was almost 80 percent in 2010. Which brings us across the pond, so to speak, where America's debt level reached 102 percent of GDP last year, long before the full effects -- and true costs -- of our own stab at government-run healthcare have yet to be realized." --columnist Arnold Ahlert

Insight

"We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." --British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)

"To be controlled in our economic pursuits means to be controlled in everything." --Nobel laureate economist Friedrich August von Hayek (1899-1992)

The Demo-gogues

Stunning hypocrisy: "Now, whenever Congress refuses to act, Joe and I, we're going to act. In the months to come, wherever we have an opportunity, we're going to take steps on our own to keep this economy moving. ... I do hope Congress joins me. Instead of spending the coming months in a lot of phony political debates focusing on the next election, I hope that we spend some time focusing on middle-class Americans and those who are struggling to get into the middle class." --Barack Obama

Reducing the American Dream: "If you're willing to put in the work, the idea is that you should be able to raise a family and own a home, not go bankrupt because you got sick, 'cause you've got some health insurance that helps you deal with those difficult times; that you can send your kids to college; that you can put some money away for retirement. That's all most people want. Folks don't have unrealistic ambitions. They do believe that if they work hard, they should be able to achieve that small measure of an American dream." --Barack Obama

Scary: "Let me let you in on a secret. I am the senior-most person serving on the Financial Services Committee. Barney Frank is about to retire and guess who's shaking in their boots? The too-big-to-fail banks and financial institutions and all of Wall Street, because Maxine Waters is going to be the next chair of the Financial Services Committee!" --Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)

Way over the top: "On Immigration policy and reform [Republicans] are on the wrong side of the track. ... They would have you believe that if they get into office, they are going to make sure that they are going to get rid of everyone in our society who was not born in America." --Maxine Waters

Dezinformatsia

Framing debate: "Isn't any Republican nominee going to have a problem, and that is, by all indications, the economy is getting stronger. So if you're the Republican nominee, how do you run against a recovering economy? How do you say, 'I'm not up with that'?" --NBC's Matt Lauer

Um, what? "When I first heard the discourse of the Tea Party, as much as I wasn't in agreement with it, I kind of like populist movements that are asking for jobs and worrying about the effects of big government. But the shift now has moved towards this so-called moral, ethical, racially problematic and now this contraception language. You know, jobs are simply not located in my uterus. Like, wherever they are, wherever they might be created, that's just not where they are. So, why is so much policy language around that?" --MSNBC's Melissa Harris Perry

Nothing to fear: "Despite the fact that Obama hasn't made the slightest feint toward regulating guns, firearms enthusiasts have whipped themselves into a paranoid frenzy, convinced that this is all just part of some elaborate conspiracy. ... Note the twist: It's no longer Obama's election that poses a mortal danger to the liberty of Americans who want to assemble arsenals -- it's Obama's re-election. I'm no financial analyst, but you'd have to imagine that that line of reasoning isn't going to do anything to depress gun sales." --BusinessWeek blogger Joshua Green

Well duh: "By saying ... that the president of the United States is running over the Constitution ... you seem to be saying that the president is not patriotic. You seem to be questioning [his] patriotism." --CBS's Charlie Rose to Newt Gingrich

Non sequitur: "If you're really anti-gay, you become a Catholic now." --MSNBC's Chris Matthews

Down with capitalism: "While we believe that capitalism is fundamentally superior to any other system for organizing economic activity, it is also clear that some of the ways in which it is now practiced do not incorporate sufficient regard for its impact on people, society and the planet." --Global Warming spokesperson Algore

Disturbing dismissal: "[Occupiers] can be as filthy and they can rape people -- if you want to make stuff up -- but the fact is nobody really cares about it because that message isn't about the messengers, it's not about who's delivering the message, but the message itself which really resonates at a very core emotional level with people who are suffering in this economy." --Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas

Blame the GOP: "And the fact is, is that because Republicans decided to play politics with Keystone, their action essentially forced the administration to deny the permit process because they insisted on a timeframe within which it was impossible to appropriately approve the pipeline. ... So the fact that the process ended the way it did in terms of that permit request is wholly the responsibility of the Republicans who insisted on playing politics with the payroll tax cut extension back at the end of last year." --White House Press Secretary Jay Carney

Clueless: "And people in America are very practical people across the political spectrum. Very conservative women want their kids, their daughters taking birth control." --former DNC head Howard Dean

Geithner: yeah, we don't have any solutions

Now that Rick Santorum is giving Romney a run for his money in the GOP primary, the media and others have opposition research teams in full assault mode. Houston school folds on forced Obama poem

Parents of a local Houston school were not exactly thrilled when their kids in kindergarten brought home a poem that glorified President Barack Obama. The students were told they had to learn the 'chant' that included wonderful themes surrounding the President such as, "Who's gonna answer our every call?" and "Who do we know is the man?" The school eventually backed down. Glenn reads the ridiculous lyrics of the poem.
