How Will History Judge this Generation if We Let Our Republic Slip Away?
Monday, February 6th, 2012

John Carey Political Realities
We live in an age where both are threatened by the ignorance of average voter and forces in government who want to fundamentally transform our constitutional republic.
How will history judge this generation if we let our republic slip away?
In 1787 citizens gathered outside of Independence Hall as delegates emerged after the Philadelphia convention closed. As Benjamin Franklin made his way through the crowd a Philadelphia native Mrs. Powel asked Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."
The other night when I was watching President Obama give his State of the Union address, he opened his speech talking about his grandparents and their contributions during World War II. This generation is often referred to as the "greatest generation." This was the generation that held the country together during the great depression. This was the generation that stepped up and saved the world from the forces of evil. This was the generation that came home from the war and helped transform America into an economic powerhouse. They were a generation with innovative ideas and a free market economy to grow them. They were shining examples of rugged individualism who believed in free market principles and limited government intervention. Contrary to popular belief, they were not fans of Social Security or Medicare. Most viewed any kind of government program claiming to offer security in exchange for liberty with suspicion. They believed that more government meant less freedom. I know this because my grandparents were a part of this generation and they loved liberty.

'Spread the Word': On Tuesday Beck Will Expose the Disturbing Truth Behind the Violence on US-Mexico Border
The Blaze | by Tiffany Gabbay | Posted on February 6, 2012 at 10:57pm
"There is going to be hell to pay in the future."
Those haunting words by a former DEA chief about our painfully vulnerable borders ring of truth - a truth you will not find in the mainstream media - and head straight to the heart of the matter Glenn Beck will discuss on Tuesday night's episode of The Glenn Beck Program on GBTV.

Former Russian Gen.: Russia Is 'Defending the Entire World From Fascism,' Is Ready to Use Military Power to Defend Iran, Syria
The Blaze | by Tiffany Gabbay | Posted on February 6, 2012 at 7:46pm
Former member of Russian Joint Chiefs of Staff Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov appeared on Russia Today TV to boldly announce that Russia is "defending the entire world from Fascism" - waged, of course, by the U.S. and Israel - and that his country is ready to use military force to defend Iran and Syria from its aggressors. He added that an attack on Syria or Iran would be an indirect attack on Russia. The retired colonel also compared U.S. presence in Libya to Hitler and his armies' aggression against Poland and later, Russia.

Sometimes when you stand up to the establishment,
it doesn't always go well.
 | Bunker Hill - A rabble of patriots up against the most powerful force on the planet. Yea, they lost, but they let the British know that they were a force to be reckoned with. | But that does not mean it is not worth the fight. There are two ways of interpreting the decision by the Republican State Committee to endorse candidates on Saturday, January 28 at their winter meeting: - The State committee is completely out of touch with the Republican base and especially the grassroots activists (Tea Party) that we should have no respect for them at all.
- The fact that there was even a discussion about the appropriateness of endorsing candidates for the primary and that the vote was 200 in favor and 142 against is a sign that the grassroots are beginning the process of changing the political process in Pennsylvania.
We are inclined to believe the second interpretation. As much as we would have liked to have had the PA GOP agree to not endorse and the fact that there was an effort to prevent grassroots leaders from even being in the PA GOP meeting. There were a dozen or so stories in local media about the controversy over the endorsement process. Here are links to just a few: There were many grassroots groups that protested the matter (A letter that was given to the Chairman of the PA GOP from these groups is available here). There was also a press conference and a demonstration at the winter meeting. Does anyone remember anything like this when Pat Toomey ran against Arlen Specter? We are making a difference. But in order to make a real difference, we need people to get involved in their local committees. To get on the ballot requires 10 signatures from your precinct. We can help with that process. What we need are principled people who are willing to work not only from the outside, but also from the inside where these decisions are made. Local committee seats are filled during the primary every two years. State committee seats are filled every four years. Become a local committee person now ow sign up to work to get a candidate elected now. We can build a base and run candidates in 2014 for State committee. This is a long process. We need not only principled individuals, but those with the perseverance to hold on for the long haul. Here is how Jaime Faucette from Citizens for Constitutional Government put it to a committee person who was thinking of resigning over the issue: We are not defeated. This was not the war. This was only one battle. And we will persevere to fight another day, and another, and another, committee seat by committee seat, State Committee seat by State Committee seat, in each of our boroughs, townships, and counties, whittling away little by little at this mammoth power structure until in time it crumbles - IF we don't quit now. The atmosphere is changing. YOU ARE CHANGING IT. But more change is needed. Here is the way another tea party activist put it: The people of the movement need to be reminded of what they worked so hard for and this is the time to stand up and "fight the system". This fight is a good thing. It demonstrates true debate and resolution (like how the framers fought over the writing of the constitution) when was the last time we saw Democrats fight over what was best for the people? There are glimmers of hope. There is a cut in the fabric of "politics as usual". It will take time to pull back the veil. Grab a knife and grab hold. WE (that includes YOU) can do this. |
Here is the beginning of the letter from the conservative grassroots leaders presented to Chairman Gleason:
Rob Gleason
Chairman, Republican Party of Pennsylvania
112 State Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101
Friday, January 27, 2012
Chairman Gleason,
As grassroots conservative leaders, we are all united in our desire to defeat President Obama and Senator Casey. We were excited by the resounding Republican victories in 2010 and 2011 and the conservative message these candidates espoused.
We are concerned that the Republican State Committee is seeking to make an endorsement in the hotly contested U.S. Senate primary. We believe this would be a mistake as there are many strong candidates in this race.

If you are willing to stand on a street corner with a sign or go to a Townhall meeting and tell politicians how you feel, then you should consider running for your local Republican Committee NOW The Kitchen Table Patriots is looking to help the Montgomery & Bucks County Republican Committee fill some vacant local committee seats.
These seats will be filled in the spring primary. If you are at all interested in running for any of these offices or campaigning for those that do, please reply to this email or email us directly at TheKitchenTablePatriots@GMail.com and we will work with you to understand the office and get campaign support. Dear Patriot,
Carried by Richard Nixon in all five presidential elections and by Ronald Regan all four times he ran, California, where European-Americans are now a shrinking minority, is a state where the Republican Party faces extinction. John McCain's 2008 general election vote was a mere 36% in California, handing Barack Obama 55 votes of the Electoral College and eclipsing the GOP's capture of the entire mid-West with just one state.
Demographics are destiny. Many have read Patrick Buchanan's latest best-seller, "Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025." It is a telling forecast of the decline of the West and what the future may hold.
Here at the Thomas Jefferson Club, we strive to present speakers and issues that you will find nowhere else. We are a non-partisan, issues-oriented organization and believe in presenting on a variety of challenging topics, including the issues of national identity, immigration and America's historic lineage of Western Culture.
On Sunday, February 12th at 7pm we will present Filip Dewinter, member of the Belgian and European Parliament. Mr. Dewinter is the leader of Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest), the main opposition party in Belgium. He will discuss from the front lines the challenges for Western Civilization in Europe and its parallels to the United States. This event will be held at The Temperance House, 5 South State Street, Newtown, PA.
For a brief overview of Mr. Dewinter and the freedom movement in Europe, please view this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjoLqlJDgGI.
Another great event of note is this evening (Monday, January 30th) called "Inaugural KTP Tea" with the Kitchen Table Patriots. The objective of KTP's first "Tea" is to mingle in a less formal setting and bring you up to date on some activities in Harrisburg and Washington. Also to solicit ideas about what KTP should be doing to champion conservatism right here at home. The event is free of charge and will be held from 5-7pm at Bobby Simone's Restaurant Loft, 52 East State Street, Doylestown, PA.
All the best,
Jeff McGeary

Weekly News From Philadelphia ZOA
Shabbat Shalom!

Philadelphia ZOA Quarterly Meeting
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 7:30 p.m., at Temple Beth Hillel/Beth El, 1001 Remington Rd., Wynnewood.
Our guest speaker will be State Representative Curt Schroder, who recently returned from a trip to Israel along with other lawmakers from the commonwealth on a trip sponsored and organized by the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition. Schroder, a Republican, represents the 155th District, in Chester County. He is serving his ninth term.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Please
encourage those you know to also attend.

We want to let you know Philadelphia ZOA's activities concerning the University of Pennsylvania boycott, divestment and sanctions conference (Penn BDS) taking place next weekend -- as well as a couple good responses.
The Greater Philadelphia District of the Zionist Organization of America has not only been actively engaged in confronting this evil conference but we have been intimately involved in the organized Jewish Community's response and have taken the lead role, through our own ongoing "Buy Israel" campaign, in countering the effort to hurt Israel economically. The organized Jewish community has taken this conference seriously and most of the elements of our community have coalesced to form a unified stance. ZOA has attended and contributed to meetings and conference calls where responses, planning and strategies have been formulated and while there have been points of disagreement, we feel it is important in this instance to speak with one voice. We had input in the official community statement condemning the conference, have been kept apprised of details including the major event with Alan Dershowitz next week and have made suggestions concerning security and other initiatives.
Additionally we have met and spoken with students and partnered with a particularly active student to visit businesses both on campus and around the perimeter -- with samples in hand -- to encourage them to carry items from Israel in their stores and restaurants. ZOA is making sure and providing -- thanks to the good people of Osem USA -- that there will be items from Israel served at special Shabbat dinners at Penn to coincide with the Penn BDS event. We had a letter encouraging people to "Buy Israel" published last week in the Jewish Exponent.
This conference will be in our area for just a weekend, but the foes of Israel are working all the time to harm Israel and the Jewish people. Therefore we who support Israel must be active beyond the period of this conference. I am attaching a copy of our "Buy Israel" flyer with this email. Please use it, circulate it and print it out and take it with you when you do your shopping.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID
"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere. My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why? Louis: Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934). The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward. I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered. Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters. Voter Cheating
You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian. Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.
Background
There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:
a) 12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934
Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand. I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...
b) Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID
"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well. "It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."
c) Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)
Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh) "Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918. "Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
d) Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler: No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)
"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens. "I can vote twenty-two times. "You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? (Although, in fairness, dead people should only be able to vote once). http://pawatercooler.com/v3/?tag=philadelphia-voter-fraud
e) 11/7/2011, PA ACORN Lives
"Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include: * Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate) * Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman) * Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in ACORN's 2005 annual report) * Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with Justice) * Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA) * Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA) * Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson) Action United is located at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org. http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2011/acornspecialreport08222011.pdf There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project. There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor. Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's: "The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/ There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs: "Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night. "The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29... A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement. "He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..." http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/ What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"? Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November. On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things. The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

PA implementing ObamaCare exchanges
I wanted to update you on the exchange situation. First, unfortunately we are getting started late in the game. Having spoken with 4 different legislators (Rep Saylor, Boyd, Bear, and Sen Waugh), I believe the general sense on their part is that they want to be prepared to set up an exchange if SCOTUS doesn't declare ObamaCare unconstitutional.
Their reasoning for supporting the exchange is that PA will have more control if PA sets up the exchange rather than the feds. We have been arguing that in fact: the exchange structure and operation is dictated by the feds, through law and regulation, regardless if the state sets it up or not; that whatever little "control" a PA would have does not mitigate any of the true horrors of the law; establishing the exchange legitimizes PPACA and undercut PA's federal lawsuit against PPACA, creates more PA expense and government, scedes state sovereignty, misses an opportunity to block the law and to have standing for further legal action. (please see attached documents if you want more explanation).
We have more legislator visits planned, but it is clear to me that none of the legislators thus far will take on this fight. We must generate the grass roots response to move them to do so. It is disgusting that our Republican Governor and legislature can't pass meaningful right to work legislation, LCB reform, PA TPK Commission reform, school reform, etc but unless we respond in a big way, will make PA government bigger, make PA government poorer, harm PA citizen liberty and health by implementing an exchange.
I have contacted Campaign for Liberty to see if they are interested in coordinating efforts to stop the exchange. I will also contact the PA Manufacturer's Association and the Chamber of Commerce, both of whom support repeal of PPACA, also for potential coordination of activities.
We are working on an on-line petition rejecting PPACA and the exchanges for PA physicians to sign and ultimately deliver by several physicians to Harrisburg.
On Wednesday, I participated in a debate put on by the Lehigh Valley Coalition for Health Care Reform (Donna Rovito). Leo Knepper and I presented the anti-exchange positition while a rep from the PA Dept of Insurance and Dr Schmeltz of the PA Medical Society presented the for pro position. For what it is worth, I believe we had the more compelling argument.
I welcome any thought you all have.
This exchange is going to happen unless we act together in a big way.

RedState Morning Briefing
For February 7, 2012
1. The Sweet Meteor of Death 2012
As I said back in December, I have no plans to endorse a candidate for President of the United States. I wrote, at the time, "I would prefer instead to tell you exactly what I think about each of the candidates, good or bad, and let the chips fall where they may."
Since then, I have routinely been asked who I would endorse. Today, after a lot of reflection on this race, I can honestly say my position has not changed and I would honestly prefer Ace of Spades' sweet meteor of death than any of the candidates left in the race. . . .
The Republican Party is putting itself in the hands of the economy. With Mitt Romney as the nominee, we will be forced to hope for a deteriorating economy because, while I will vote for him and think he is vastly better than Barack Obama, the fact is he has made no case for himself against Barack Obama except that he can do a better job on the economy.
2. 'Act of Valor': Exploitative, Opportunistic, or Just Good Clean Fun? I've been engaged in a twitter discussion with some good friends and acquaintances (and, being that it's twitter, with some folks I don't know from Adam) about the upcoming film Act of Valor. The film, for those who were comatose during the Super Bowl ad blitz, is a Navy recruiting video on major steroids that features several active duty SEALs and Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen in uncredited roles. 3. The Highway Bill: A Road to Cave City Last week, several House committees favorably reported the $260 billion 5-year House GOP highway bill to the full body. This 846-page behemoth is now headed to a floor vote sometime next week. Simply put, conservatives oppose the House leadership's highway bill (H.R. 7) because it continues the failed top-down federal approach to transportation spending, while precluding devolution to the states for at least another five years. Moreover, it eschews the pay-as-you-go funding mechanism of the Highway Trust Fund (eerily similar to the Social Security Trust Fund!) by permanently authorizing a higher level of spending than the fund's corresponding revenue source; the federal gas tax.

Conservative movies: BRAZIL (1985)
Celebrate Terry Gilliam's dystopian fantasy Brazil as a parable of just how unspeakably horrible things get when the liberals take charge: insane bureaucracy; universal police surveillance; state-sponsored torture; terrorism; a heartless elite; a labyrinthine government machine from which the only possible escape is the solace of insanity. . . And Gilliam had never even heard of Rahm Emanuel when he made it.

Bolton: U.S. 'running up the white flag' to Taliban. Concerned Obama's reelection will 'gravely impair' national security. President Obama is "running up the white flag" of surrender to the Taliban by ending combat missions in Afghanistan in 2013, contended former UN Ambassador John Bolton in a radio interview. Bolton went on to say that he is concerned Obama's reelection will "gravely impair" what he described as an already "seriously weakened" U.S. national security.

It's baaack! The plan to kill talk radio. Group advising White House wants to restore controversial policy. An organization that helped to craft President Obama's environmental policies has recommended the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine, purportedly as a method of silencing critics of the theory of global warming. The Presidential Climate Action Project, or PCAP, last year released an extensive list of recommendations for the White House in a 75-page paper entitled, "Building the Obama Administration's Climate Legacy." Primary among the PCAP's recommendations is that the Department of Energy should join the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) what is known as the Partnership for Sustainable Communities.

Rohrer Wins Valley Forge Straw Poll
By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor
The Republican primary for U.S. Senate is heating up in the wake of Steve Welch's endorsement by GOP state committee, and Tim Burns' departure from the race. The frenzied pace of forums and straw polls continued over the weekend.
The Associated Press is tuning in, covering a candidates forum Saturday in Phoenixville hosted by the Valley Forge Patriots, a Tea Party group:
"The size of the deficit and the reach of the federal government were key topics that the candidates spent much of the 80-minute forum answering questions about from an audience of more than 200. A Tea Party-aligned group organized the event, and calls to defeat President Barack Obama drew louder applause than calls to defeat Casey."
Sam Rohrer, a former State Rep. who the AP noted lives about 20 miles away from Phoenixville, won the ensuing straw poll far and away. he defeated Welch, who lives about 8 miles away.
The final tally was Rohrer 104; Marc Scaringi 24; Welch 18, and Tom Smith 6.
"After four straight forums and debates, Sam has won three and finished second in the other. Tonight showed yet again that Sam Rohrer is the most qualified candidate in this race and the true voice of the people of Pennsylvania," said Rohrer Campaign Manager Zac Moyle in a statement.
Welch is an entrepreneur from Chester County, Scaringi is an attorney from Cumberland County, and Smith is a former coal company owner from Armstrong County.
Rohrer Dings Corbett
On a semi-related note, Rohrer shared some less-than-flattering words about Gov. Tom Corbett and his endorsement of Welch. From Bill Lawrence's latest blog post:
Rohrer and others in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Route 252 described the apparently unprecedented pressure placed on the State Committee people by Gov. Tom Corbett and the party establishment to vote for Welch. Rohrer said he saw some of the committeepeople in tears from the intimidation which included threats of lost government jobs.

Sharia law and the first amendment Check out the picture below, of a billboard seen by one of our members in the Kansas City area:
The billboard is sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a Muslim Brotherhood connected organization. Note the strategy-that opposition to sharia law is supposedly an infringement on the first amendment protection of religious freedom. This is, of course, disingenuous. Is ICNA arguing that the following provisions of sharia law be protected by the first amendment?
- A Muslim man beating his wife for disobedience.
- Punishment, up to capital punishment, of "apostates"-those who leave Islam.
- Polygamy. (In 1879, the Supreme Court ruled that Mormon polygamy was not protected under the first amendment.)
- Jihad.
- Suppression of criticism of Islam or Muhammad. (This is particularly obnoxious, since the first amendment also protects freedom of speech.)
- Punishment for the practice of homosexuality.
|
We highly doubt anyone who calls ICNA will be told these facts about sharia law! ACT! for America does not argue that Muslims do not have a first amendment right to practice the peaceful, spiritual tenets of their faith. What we oppose is the imposition of a supremacist political ideology and its legal code (sharia) where its provisions and doctrines threaten the security, freedom, and the Constitution of our nation. ICNA is wrapping sharia in the first amendment in the hope that Americans won't look closely at what sharia really includes. Every time someone signs up for our email alerts, makes a donation, attends one of our Citizens in Action conferences, or starts or joins a local chapter, we are that much stronger and effective in pushing back against this deception. Can you do something to help us today? And if you come across something like this billboard that you think we should be aware of, please email us at info@actforamerica.org. Together, we will prevail.

On Reagan's Birthday, His Legacy Lives On
Today marks President Ronald Reagan's 101st birthday. Born in Tampico, Illinois, Reagan made his journey west to Iowa as a radio broadcaster, then on to California to take Hollywood by storm. He crossed America as a spokesman for General Electric, and then -- after discovering the import of conservative values -- entered the political arena, where he would ultimately lead his fellow citizens out of a wilderness of self-doubt, helping the country come to see that it could be morning in America once again.
We at The Heritage Foundation invite you to join us in celebrating Reagan's life and legacy. For those of you on Facebook, click here to join the thousands of others who have already signed our virtual birthday card to President Reagan. Leave your message about what Reagan's legacy means to you, share it with friends, and take part in this celebration today.

The Foundation
"The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man." --James Madison
Essential Liberty
"The Susan G. Komen foundation succumbed [Friday] to a relentless barrage of political bullying, a fact that is not only sad news for those who cherish the sanctity and dignity of all life, but also for all of us who believe that a private philanthropic organization shouldn't be subjected to such harassment. That the Komen foundation apologized for its decision to halt contributions to Planned Parenthood is another illustration that political correctness is running amok. ... Consider the facts: The Komen Foundation is a private philanthropic organization. It has every right to fund or not fund charities or causes of its choice. That certain individuals and causes are 'outraged' over Komen's announcement is, in itself, outrageous. ... Planned Parenthood is regularly lobbying for even more federal subsidies. So not only do they now want to take more of your money via taxes -- but they also want to be able to tell private foundations whom they (should) give to! ... At the core of this matter, though, is a fundamental difference of opinion. Should private organizations have the right to operate under the rule of law? Should they be permitted to distribute their own funds to whom they see fit? Or should they be subjected to the rule and pressure of a mob mentality that is no respecter of independent rights, one who demands the donor's money?" --Focus on the Family CEO Jim Daly
Faith & Family"Just recently, the Obama Administration announced that the Affordable Healthcare Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare, requires that employers pay for [insurance including] contraception, including abortifacients, and that Catholic institutions are not exempt from this requirement. ... In the administration's twisted way of thinking, contraception is 'preventive care' that helps prevent illness in the same way that cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes screening do -- even though pregnancy is the means by which life is perpetuated and the species' existence continued. Even worse is the willful refusal to accommodate the beliefs of the nation's largest religious body. [HHS Secretary Kathleen] Sibelius defended the decision as 'striking the appropriate balance between respecting religious freedom and increasing access to important preventive services.' This is the same Kathleen Sibelius who told the crowd of abortion supporters at a NARAL fund-raiser, 'we are at war' over the 'pregnancy prevention' issue. This the same Kathleen Sibelius whose department has issued hundreds of waivers for plans that fail to meet other Health and Human Service standards, including those offered by McDonalds. 'Appropriate balance,' my foot! Every Christian, not just Catholics, should be outraged by the Obama Administration's decision. The regulations represent a move to define religious liberty in the narrowest possible terms." --author Chuck Colson
Re: The Left"Lieutenant General William G. ('Jerry') Boykin is like an action-movie hero. ... Jerry Boykin has done it all. He's been in battle as part of America's most elite fighting force, then rose to command those troops as a general, and also served in the CIA and Pentagon on the strategic planning and management side of this equation. ... As a private citizen retired from the Army, General Boykin was invited to speak at a prayer breakfast at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. ... But the Far Left exploded. Boykin has cast America's war against radical Islamic terrorists as fighting Satan. So his religious language has made strange bedfellows of various Islamic groups joining with atheists to call on West Point to disinvite this American hero who risked and achieved so much for this country. ... President Obama's pick to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a lesbian activist who says that homosexual rights should always trump religious liberty. This is the same EEOC that argued it had the power to order a church to reinstate as a minister a person the church had fired for violating church teaching, a position the Supreme Court unanimously rejected. And the administration has enacted regulations under Obamacare forcing Evangelical and Catholic universities and hospitals to provide contraceptives against the religious beliefs of those church-affiliated institutions." --columnists Ken Blackwell & Ken Klukowski The Gipper"The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price. ... It is time for us to realize that we are too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams. We're not, as some would have us believe, doomed to an inevitable decline. I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing." --Ronald Reagan Today marks President Ronald Wilson Reagan's 101st birthday, or as he would have phrased it, the 62nd anniversary of his 39th birthday. The observance of this occasion provides a vital bond with our national heritage of Liberty and those who have devoted their lives and fortunes to advance it. Don't miss our remembrance. Opinion in Brief"The Nevada GOP couldn't get the votes counted. By halftime of the Super Bowl CNN.com was reporting that a full day after the caucuses only 83 percent of the precincts had been recorded. The Iowa GOP chairman resigned in disgrace after it took nearly two weeks to decide that Rick Santorum, not Mitt Romney had been the winner there. By that time, whatever minor momentum Santorum had gained by 'losing' by only eight votes on caucus night had long dissipated and he was but a footnote in the South Carolina story. ... I am serious about this: RNC National Chairman, Reince Priebus, should immediately dispatch anyone in the nation who has any idea how to run a caucus and tell the state parties that the RNC-designated person is in charge. This is a little time sensitive in that there are two more caucuses schedule for tomorrow -- Minnesota and Colorado. In addition there are two states with rolling caucus dates this month. Maine is now underway through the 11th, and precincts in Wyoming can meet anytime between the 9th and the 29th. Missouri has a non-binding primary election on Tuesday, but that has drawn almost no attention from the candidates or the media. ... It is likely that Romney will crack the 50 percent ceiling by the time the counting is over, even though that might not be until the next Super Bowl." --political analyst Rich Galen Editor's Note: Romney did indeed crack 50 percent as of Monday morning. And speaking of the Super Bowl, here are Alexander's Picks for the worst ads: Clint Eastwood on halftime in America, and the Obama rhetorical echo award goes to Met Life for its soft classism ad asserting, "Every family should have the financial security they need." Then as the limo pulls up, "Not just the ones who can figure it out, not just the most fortunate, everyone."
Political Futures"[Barack] Obama now rarely talks about his supposed signature achievements, whether the huge deficit 'priming' or the unpopular Obamacare. Republicans have only controlled the House of Representatives for the past year, yet Obama now blasts them for stopping what he in theory wanted to do as president. In contrast, he hardly praises the Democrats who controlled both houses of Congress for twice that time and enacted all that he wished. How strange to keep silent about successes only to broadcast failed what-ifs. ... This year, Obama will run not so much on what he really did in 2009 and 2010, but more on what he wanted to do, but was stopped from doing, in 2011 and 2012. The president will tell his base that he really wished to go green in a big way while telling Middle America that lots of oilmen went ahead on their own to find new gas and oil. For his liberal supporters, Obama really did want to end the antiterrorism protocols, and for the rest of America he really did find those same protocols necessary to kill Islamic terrorists. The message is clear: If voters do not see or hear the new un-Obama too often, if his left-wing legislative agenda is sidetracked, and if the private sector can ignore him, then voters may still sort of like the idea of him back as president." --historian Victor Davis Hanson For the Record"In President Obama's first budget, entitled ... 'A New Era of Responsibility,' he projected that the federal budget deficit in 2012 would be a rather hefty $581 billion.... Fast-forwarding three years, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) now projects that it will instead be $1.079 trillion, meaning that, if the CBO is right, Obama was wrong by $498,000,000,000. ... Medicare could magically have become free for 2012, and the deficit would still have exceeded Obama's earlier estimate. Deficit spending under Obama has truly been historic. An editorial in the Wall Street Journal rightly observes that 'Mr. Obama has the worst fiscal record of any President in modern times. No one else is even close.' However, even this is somewhat generous. When you factor in the context -- we're not currently fighting the Civil War, World War I, or World War II, which are the only other times that our deficits have exceeded 6.0 percent of GDP (as they have every year under Obama) -- the deficits on Obama's watch are by far the most profligate in all of American history." --The Weekly Standard's Jeffrey H. Anderson Insight"As long as the law may be diverted from its true purpose -- that it may violate property instead of protecting it -- then everyone will want to participate in making the law, either to protect himself against plunder or to use it for plunder. Political questions will always be prejudicial, dominant, and all-absorbing. There will be fighting to gain access to the legislature as well as fighting within it." --French economist and author Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) Culture"Lego, which markets plastic building blocks for everything from 'Star Wars' fighting vehicles to Egyptian pyramids, has now introduced a line aimed at young girls. ... [T]hese toys depict girls engaging in traditionally female activities and roles: getting their hair done, baking, caring for children. The company says that it has introduced the new line because of customer demand. ... But feminist critics say that the real motive is to reinforce gender stereotypes and limit little girls' aspirations. In fact, it's the feminists who want to limit women's choices. Their message to girls and young women is: If you're not exactly like men, you don't believe in equal rights. For much of the last 40 years, feminists have pushed to masculinize women. ... At the same time, feminists have taken on the task of feminizing males. ... But despite the feminist movement's almost complete success in refashioning the terms of the cultural debate, feminists have not been able to convince most little girls to want to play with starfighters and missile launchers. ... As long as we don't tell girls they should never choose the action figure over the princess or tell boys that they must play with guns and not dolls, we're not cutting off options for either gender. Real choice entails letting individuals ... gravitate toward what they want, not what ideologues wish them to prefer." --columnist Linda Chavez The Last Word"As you may have heard, invasive Burmese pythons have nearly wiped out populations of white tail deer, raccoons and other mammals in the Florida everglades. ... I understand that the serpents are very well suited to survive in the Everglades, they have no natural predators, they possess the ability to swim and go without food for up to a year, and the native animals have no natural fear of giant snakes etc etc. Ecologists talk as if this is a lost cause. This amounts to blanket amnesty for illegal immigrant giant snakes. The Hell, I say: We nearly wiped out the buffalo in this country because a bunch of guys made money off of buffalo hides. Thousands of years before that, mankind eradicated the woolly mammoth with spears. Spears! ... You see, I don't think we need a vast new government bureaucracy to kill snakes. Heck I think if we created a vast new bureaucracy to kill snakes we would very quickly end up subsidizing people to raise snakes to kill them. But, are you telling me that during a time when unemployment is outrageously high, the government can't put a bounty on snakes and get results?" --columnist Jonah Goldberg Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus et Fidelis! Dear Patriots -
Arnaud de Borchgrave, author, columnist and former editor of the Washington Times, has traveled the world, knows journalism, knows people and politics. At 85, with 62 years in journalism, his interests, perspectives and passions stretch us all to consider. See what he has to say about America becoming a third world country, our missteps in Afghanistan and Iraq, a neglected author with remarkable future significance and more.
Watch here.
Last week, we had a spike in traffic with our interview with Andy Andrews, author of How Do You Kill 11 Million People?. My sincere thanks to those of you who forwarded this interview by email or "shared" or "liked" it on Facebook, as we added many new names to our community last week!
This week I will be interviewing Ken Blackwell, author and former Ohio secretary of state. Send me any suggestions you have for questions for Ken by Wednesday at this email!
Cheers,
Ginni
P.S. For a great Valentine's idea this week only, send your own contribution and message to wounded warriors for Valentines! Sgt. Kendra Coleman lost her leg in May 2010 when she was hit by an IED as she and her unit went to investigate a suspected explosive device in the market square in Charkh, Afghanistan. It is amazing she survived the attack and the subsequent MEDIVAC. Dangling precariously on a stretcher beneath a helicopter via sling-load, she swung and spun violently as she was hoisted from the battlefield -- all the while bleeding profusely. She is giving back to her fellow soldiers in the best way she knows. Let's help her!

Make this go viral across PENNSYLVANIA!!
Dear Patriot,
We all worked very hard in 2010 to elect Republicans to office in Harrisburg, giving them a majority. The expectation was that we would see real reform because their principles were closely aligned with ours.
Instead, Senator Dominic Pileggi-Senate Majority Leader-consistently stalls good legislation in order to maintain his standing with the special interests that support him. This is not the change we worked so hard to achieve.
ROGER HOWARD is challenging Senator Pileggi in the April 24th primary.
Roger is the candidate who truly shares our principles:
-- small government, free markets, and adhering to the Constitution
A win for Roger Howard will send shock waves throughout Pennsylvania and a strong message to all of our legislators.
There are certain truths in the political realm
- It takes many boots on the ground and MONEY to help elect candidate
Roger Howard is the strong, conservative candidate we all say we want elected. We cannot, as Patriots, as tea party members, as concerned citizens, continue to talk about all that is wrong-we must seize the opportunity of supporting a candidate who can help make it right.
All he needs to defeat Senator Pileggi is the help of Patriots throughout Pennsylvania.
As the Majority Leader, Senator Pileggi controls the agenda--winning this one seat will affect ALL Pennsylvanians in a positive way by removing the barrier to good legislation for all Pennsylvthen we need to work for and support candidates who will represent us, and not their own special interests as a career politician.
IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW: I have never asked for donations before but a fact of life for a candidate is that he or she needs money. Please consider contributing to Roger's campaign and please send this letter to anyone you think might be willing to help. No donation is too small.
GROUP ORGANIZERS: please consider sending this message to your membership and other groups in PA. Below is a link to a fund-raising letter. I hope you will take the time to read it and go to roger4pa.com to learn more about Roger Howard and DONATE. This is a monumental project but it can be done!

Deconstructing Romney: Maybe Mitt Should Get a PIG?
Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:48 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
Okay, so as we saw with Romney's off-the-cuff disaster about not being concerned about poor people last week, he's not exactly another Great Communicator. But if he wins, maybe he could do America and the presidency a service by shutting up. From The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Presidents:
There are two main reasons for the development of the presidency as we know it today. The first is that the theorists of the Progressive Era, especially Woodrow Wilson, sought deliberately to eliminate the Constitution's limits on government power, and especially to inflate the power and status of the president. But also, presidents simply started talking too much.
Today it is forgotten that presidents before the twentieth century spoke publicly very seldom, and then usually in the most general terms, such as greetings or "information about the state of the union." Our first twenty-five presidents gave an average of just twelve speeches a year. And even this low average is skewed upward by late-nineteenth-century presidents, who began giving more speeches around the country after the spread of the railroads made presidential travel more feasible. George Washington averaged three public speeches a year; John Adams only one; Thomas Jefferson five; and James Madison-zero. Even President Andrew Jackson, thought with good reason to have introduced a measure of populism into presidential politics, was reticent about making too many speeches. He averaged only one public speech a year as president.
Two of the nineteenth-century exceptions to this pattern of rhetorical modesty are exceptions that prove the rule. It is nearly forgotten today that one of the charges of impeachment brought against President Andrew Johnson in 1868 was that he simply talked too much, and in a manner that we would today call "divisive." In contrast to all of his predecessors, President Johnson toured the nation giving campaign-style speeches to drum up support for his policy proposals and to attack the Republican Congress. One of the articles of impeachment read, in part:
"That said Andrew Johnson, President of the United States, unmindful of the high duties of his office and the dignity and propriety thereof ... did ... make and deliver with a loud voice certain intemperate, inflammatory, and scandalous harangues, and did therein utter loud threats and bitter menaces as well against Congress as the laws of the United States . . . . Which said utterances, declarations, threats, and harangues, highly censurable in any, are peculiarly indecent and unbecoming of the Chief Magistrate of the United States, by means whereof ... Andrew Johnson has brought the high office of the President of the United States into contempt, ridicule, and disgrace, to the great scandal of all good citizens."
Come to think of it, maybe we should dust off this article of impeachment and apply it to the current occupant of the White House?

From Wilson to Obama
Posted: 06 Feb 2012 10:06 AM PST
(Scott Johnson)
Steve Hayward has been been touting his new book on the presidents from Wilson to Obama in a good-humored sort of way, but the book makes a substantial contribution to the subject. The book is officially published and available in bookstores next week, though it is shipping now from Amazon. The book comes with recommendations from Jonah Goldberg, Ed Meese and Michael Barone. Here is what I said about it in the review posted at Amazon:
Steven Hayward is my favorite historian of American politics. His two-volume history of The Age of Reagan hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, but it is a magnificent work of narrative history and informed judgment. Hayward took a time out from his work on the second volume to write Greatness, a comparison of Churchill and Reagan along with a meditation on the sources of political greatness.
Hayward now turns his attention to the modern American presidency. All his powers are vividly on display in this wonderful book. It is full of deep learning worn lightly. It continues Hayward's mission of providing a narrative undermining the liberal version of American politics served up by Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., and his successors. As always, Hayward entertains while he teaches.
The book rings my chimes right from the git-to. Here is the opening paragraph:
The Founding Fathers would be appalled by the modern presidency. Of all the things that would horrify them about the scope and reach of government today, the one that might alarm them the most is the character of the modern office of president. The scale of the presidential office and the conduct of modern presidents are very different from what the Founders envisioned. In fact, the modern presidency is the exact opposite of what the Founders intended. The behavior of most modern presidents-personally ambitious politicians (or demagogues' in the Founders eighteenth century vocabulary) making populist appeals, offering lavish promises, often impossible to fulfill, of what they will do for the people-is precisely what the Founders wanted to avoid when they created the institution. The modern presidency has become one of the chief ingredients in the recipe for endlessly expanding the government beyond the limits the Founders laid out for it in the Constitution.
And here is Steve's conclusion:
The election of 1912, when the parties splintered and a short-lived Progressive Party facilitated the election of Woodrow Wilson, marked the beginning of a new chapter in American political thought and practice. The election of 2012 could mark the end of this chapter and the return to an older, sounder constitutional order, if a majority of American voters taek to heart the wisdom of of the Founders. Might the Tea Party represent the inverse of the Progressive Party of 100 years ago? Even if the Tea Party does not become a formal political party as the Progressives did in 1912, it is clear this populist constitutional movement is having an effect on both parties-reminding us once again that the Constitution begins, We the people..."
Although it is a work covering a hundred years of American history, Steve's book could not be more timely.

The current issue of the New York Times Magazine publishes Melissa Fay Greene's article "Wonder dog." Greene is a gifted writer. This is an incredibly moving article with heroes including an adoptive mom, two service dog trainers, and a Golden Retriever named Chancer. The family to which Chancer is dispatched measures time in two phases: Before Chancer and After Chancer. Check out the story and you'll see why. After reading the article you may want to know a little more about 4 Paws for Ability.

Obamacare against the Church, cont'd
Posted: 06 Feb 2012 05:31 AM PST
(Scott Johnson)
In a USA Today column this morning HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius defends the Obamacare regulation requiring almost all Catholic institutions to provide health insurance including contraception, sterilization and abortifacients morning. She isn't that forthcoming describing the regulation, but that's what the column is about.
What does she have to say? Not much. Her lips are moving, but she's not saying anything - sort of like the boss. Sebelius doesn't defend the regulation on the merits. She does suggest it's not entirely her fault. She was just following the example of others - and it could have been worse:
In choosing this [extremely narrow religious] exemption, we looked first at state laws already in place across the country. Of the 28 states that currently require contraception to be covered by insurance, eight have no religious exemption at all.
The religious exemption in the administration's rule is the same as the exemption in Oregon, New York and California.
If that doesn't persuade you, you must be the kind of cranky person who actually looks for a premise, relevant facts and a related conclusion.

Fathers and Schools: Presidential Parallels
Posted: 06 Feb 2012 04:29 AM PST
(Steven Hayward)
Michael Medved has an interesting article in today's Wall Street Journal reflecting on the strange continuity that this election marks the seventh in a row featuring either a privileged son or a man with no relationship with his biological father, and wonders why:
In one sense, these extreme backgrounds now dominate the presidential process because that process itself has become so extreme. A rising politico can no longer wait for colleagues to push or pull him toward a White House race, or dream of sudden success at some brokered convention. A serious candidacy currently requires obsessive pursuit of power over the course of several years, with expenditure of tens of millions in campaign cash.
What sort of person willingly undergoes such an ordeal? More and more, it seems, either a privileged individual with a profound sense of entitlement, or an unlikely upstart whose status as miraculous survivor amounts to his own anointing. But despite a shared sense of determination and destiny, famous-father candidates tend to run dramatically different campaigns than do their no-father counterparts.
I notice another continuity at work. Our last president had a Harvard MBA. Our current one has a Harvard JD. If Romney is our next president, he will bring to office-both. Oy vey. This is only the beginning of what I call the "presumptive credentialism" of our modern presidential fields. Here's my reflection on it from my lecture last Friday at Regent University:
Ronald Reagan had a much sounder attitude about the presumptive credentialism of our time. When told that one of his prospective cabinet nominees held a graduate degree from Harvard, Reagan replied, "Well, we won't hold that against him." Reagan-hailing from tiny Eureka College in Illinois-is what social scientists would call an "outlier" in the data of presidential educations. Although many modern presidents come from humble lower middle-class and small town backgrounds-such as Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Dwight Eisenhower, and Reagan-nearly all who were elected to office come with Ivy League educations or their close equivalent, combined with close association with what still deserves to be regarded as the Eastern Establishment. Even Jimmy Carter, a genuine outsider figure, attended the Naval Academy at Annapolis, and Richard Nixon did penance for his small-town California roots and undergraduate education at Whittier College by attending Duke law school and becoming a Wall Street lawyer in New York as the path to the White House in 1968, rather than remaining in California after his humiliating defeat in the 1962 governor's race. Our last four presidents were either Harvard or Yale men. Both Roosevelts were Harvard men, as was John F. Kennedy; Herbert Hoover matriculated from Stanford; Calvin Coolidge from Amherst, William Howard Taft from Yale, and Woodrow Wilson had been president of Princeton, though the less said about him and his education the better. Among presidents elected in their own right-that is, those who did not reach office by the accident of being selected Vice President like Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson-you have to go all the way back to Warren Harding (Ohio Central College) to find a president with such un-establishment educational credentials as Ronald Reagan.
There's more on this subject in a new book that is shipping now from Amazon. (And yes, a Kindle edition is now up and running, for those of you who've been asking.)
By the way, today is Ronaldus Magnus's 101st birthday.

There are two Republican parties. One is fairly liberal, it is hostile to the left but it also believes in stealing their thunder by adopting moderate versions of their policies. This Republican Party is strongly pro-business, but it believes that to succeed in a global economy the government must provide subsidies to businesses and individuals. It believes that immigration reform is needed, though its chosen candidates know to avoid using the word amnesty. It believes that national health care is inevitable and that the only way to avoid a government solution is through the individual mandate. It is loosely conservative, but disinterested in social issues. It thinks that the left has gone too far in upending traditional values, but has no interested in combating it and finds those who do embarrassing . It adapts to changing mores with an uneasy smile and tries to pretend that it was with it all along. It has no strong religious feelings and it believes that all religious, including Islam, are basically the same. It is strong on national defense spending, but mainly to maintain stability and national influence, not because it believes that we face any real threats. It believes that America has a responsibility to the rest of the world and that we are obligated to give back through the United Nations and other international organizations allowing us to spread our values of free enterprise and democracy to everyone. It is a big believer in the American Dream of economic opportunity, but is unable to think of any other national virtues beyond that. It maintains a strongly Federalist legacy and while it agrees that the Federal government has overreached itself in interfering with the business of states, it has no real interest in rolling back its powers, only in making certain that they are used "wisely". The only area where it actively rolls back the left's program is its deregulation of businesses, but even this is limited to spheres that are objectionable to specific industries which lobby for deregulation. Small businesses can expect much less help, unless they band together and forcefully make something into an issue. It has no passion for anything beyond deregulating a few specific industries. It supports the right to bear arms, not because it passionately believes in it, but because the political costs of not doing so are too high. It opposes abortion for the same reason, though its opposition is mainly a formality. It believes that gay marriage is inevitable, but isn't willing to pick a fight with its base over it. Its leaders and members consider themselves rationalists and believe in Global Warming because "the science says so." They sneer at those Republicans who deny what they think is the obvious. While they are skeptical of government solutions to Global Warming, they are prepared to accept an approach that does not cause too much harm to business and is routed through private companies. It views what the Republican Party has become as an embarrassment and while it doles out red meat to the base when it has to, it despises them and constantly dreams of ways of getting rid of them.

Catholic bishops get up off their knees and come up swinging at Obamacare abortion mandate
Feb 06, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins
By Kevin "Coach" Collins
The Conference of Catholic Bishops has finally awakened and like Lazarus sprung to life at the call of righteousness. They have dug in their heels and are ready to defy Obama on his abortion plan: Better late than never.
Three years ago the nation's Catholic bishops followed their tired old "we can't get involved in politics" 501 (C3) inspired rule of not saying anything political. They feared the loss of the Church's tax exemption- as if ANY administration even a Democrat administration would have the nerve to take it away.
The Catholic bishops watched Obama and Democrats not only campaign, but solicit and accept money inside Black Baptist Churches and said nothing.
They watched more than half of their folk vote for a man they knew in their hearts would someday turn his venomous hatred for Christianity on the Catholic Church.
Two years ago the nation's Catholic Bishops stood by and watched ... Continue Reading:Catholic bishops get up off their knees and come up swinging at Obamacare abortion mandate

Guilty of preaching religious liberty in England, Roger Williams fled to Boston, FEBRUARY 5, 1631. He pastored briefly before being banished by Puritan John Cotton, who himself had been persecuted by Anglicans in England. Roger Williams befriended the Narragansett Indians, who gave him land for Providence Plantation, Rhode Island-the first place where church government was not controlled by the state government. In 1639, Williams organized the first Baptist Church in America. His "notorious disagreements" with Cotton led to his publishing "Mr. Cotton's Letter Lately Printed, Examined and Answered," 1644, in which Roger Williams wrote: "The church of the Jews under the Old Testament in the type, and the church of the Christians under the New Testament in the anti-type, were both separate from the world; and when they opened a gap in the hedge or wall of separation between the garden of the church and the wilderness of the world, God hath ever ... Obama's the "New" Warfare: destroying the Catholic Church
Feb 05, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins
By Jerry Todd, staff writer
The Obama Administration is at war with Christianity in general and the Catholic Church in particular. The battlefield is best defined in two areas; the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. The "progressive" goal is consolidation of power and control over institutions and the lives of people whose age, infirmity or disability may be "troublesome." Their weapons are manipulation of money, taxation and regulations always by harassment, fines, lawsuits and loss of tax advantages for donors to church and non-profit ministries.
Christianity's institutions have a specific calling and a long demonstrated unique ability to exercise the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy:
The Corporal Works of Mercy: To feed the hungry; give drink to the thirsty; clothe the naked; shelter the homeless; visit the sick; ransom the captive; bury the dead.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy are: To instruct the ignorant; counsel the doubtful; admonish sinners; bear wrongs patiently; forgive offences willingly; ... Continue Reading:Obama's the "New" Warfare: destroying the Catholic Church

Monday, February 6, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 274 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Romney Wins Nevada This morning Mitt Romney was declared the certified winner of Saturday's Nevada caucuses. Romney took 50% of the vote to 21% for Newt Gingrich, 19% for Ron Paul and 10% for Rick Santorum. Unfortunately, turnout appeared to be down nearly 30%. In 2008, 44,000 votes were cast in the Nevada GOP caucuses. Just over 32,000 voters participated in Saturday's contest. This follows declining GOP turnout in the Florida and New Hampshire primaries. Is the increasingly nasty battle between Romney and Gingrich turning off GOP voters and helping Obama? Santorum Surges That may seem like an odd headline after reporting Santorum's fourth place finish in Nevada. But according to pollster Scott Rasmussen, Rick Santorum has surged in the polls and actually outperforms Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in head-to-head matchups against Barack Obama. In Rasmussen's data released this weekend, Obama leads Romney by seven points -- 49% to 42%. He leads Gingrich by eight points -- 49% to 41% -- and Obama leads Ron Paul by 12 points -- 50% to 38%. But Rick Santorum leads Obama by one point -- 45% to 44%. Electability, anyone? Another poll finds Santorum running second in Colorado and leading Romney in Minnesota. Both states hold caucuses tomorrow. Santorum is also expected to do very well in Missouri, which is holding a non-binding primary tomorrow. For more on the state of the GOP contest, check out these articles at National Review Online and The Weekly Standard making the case that Rick Santorum is the best candidate for Republicans to nominate. Is Paul Double-Dipping? The Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call reports that Texas Congressman Ron Paul allegedly double-billed for travel expenses. Here is an excerpt:
"Rep. Ron Paul appears to have been paid twice for flights between Washington, D.C., and his Congressional district, receiving reimbursement from taxpayers and also from a network of political and nonprofit organizations he controlled... Roll Call identified eight flights for which the Texas Republican, a GOP presidential candidate and leading champion of smaller government, was reimbursed twice for the same trip. Roll Call also found dozens more instances of duplicate payments for travel from 1999 to 2009, totaling thousands of dollars' worth of excess payments..."
Don't Let Big Media Discourage You The liberal media is trying to discourage conservative voters once again. ABC News and the Washington Post are trumpeting their latest poll finding Barack Obama with a "a clear edge" over the Republican front-runner, Mitt Romney. According to this big media poll, Obama leads Romney 51% to 45%. Don't be discouraged. First, the poll was conducted among adults, which always skews to the left. Polls of registered voters are better, and polls of likely voters are preferable. Second, the Post is once again refusing to release critical information regarding the partisan breakdown of its sample. This is important because the Post has a history of oversampling Democrats. For example, an April 2011 ABC News/Washington Post poll had the following partisan breakdown: 41% independents, 32% Democrats and 22% Republicans. That might be representative of some San Francisco suburbs, but that is not what America looks like. Are Jewish Voters Fleeing Obama? A new study by the respected Pew Forum finds that the Republican Party has made significant gains among men and women of faith since the 2008 election. For example, in 2008 white Catholics favored the Democrats by eight points. In 2011, they favored Republicans by seven -- a swing of 15 points. That's not surprising given Obama's repeated assault on religious liberty, traditional marriage and the sanctity of life. But here's the finding that got the most attention: "Even Jewish voters ... have moved noticeably in the Republican direction; Jewish voters favored the Democrats by a 52-point margin in 2008 but now prefer the Democratic Party by a significantly smaller 36-point margin." That's a swing of 16 points, and as one report noted, "the drop is enough to spark concerns that it could have a real effect in battleground states such as Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania." Again, this isn't terribly surprising given Obama's anti-Israel policies, appeasement of Iran and his obvious disrespect for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But in the weeks and months ahead, the Obama campaign will attempt to confuse voters with deceptive and misleading rhetoric while insisting he deserves a second term. Whether it is using the Gospel to promote his socialism or suggesting he is a friend to Israel, it is important to remind people of the facts. America cannot afford four more years of Barack Obama! The Abortion Taint When, in the 2008 presidential campaign, pro-lifers suggested that Barack Obama's abortion radicalism made him "pro-abortion," Obama had a ready response. "I don't know anybody who is pro-abortion," he'd say, and that would usually end the discussion. But Obama's assertion highlighted the growing unwillingness of many to be associated with the gruesome practice. Read more in my latest column at HumanEvents.com. Happy Birthday! Today is Ronald Reagan's 101st birthday. As loyal readers of this daily report know, I had the privilege of serving in all eight years of the Reagan Administration, as Under Secretary of Education and eventually as Chief Domestic Policy Advisor to the President. He was a remarkable man and a great president. There is a reason that more than 20 years after his presidency ended, Republicans still compete to be the candidate who can carry the Reagan mantle. In the midst of the Carter malaise, Ronald Reagan never gave up on America. And we must not give up either. In 274 days, let's make Barack Obama a one-term president, just like Jimmy Carter.

Radical Islam is not merely an extreme version of Islam. Rather, it is a cultural-social ideology dominating all aspects of life. Like many violent totalitarian movements, its primary objective is to dominate all those within its reach and suppress all other ideologies, movements, and beliefs in its path.
In short, Radical Islam is dedicated to the conquest of the world, by any means possible.
Radical Islam draws on widely accepted Islamic religious philosophy and customs. However the movement also draws heavily on dangerous ideas that negate basic human rights and freedoms of expression.

Obama: Iran Has Nuclear Rights; I Did Not Want to Sanction Its Bank
PJMedia | January 23, 2012
The threat by the Islamic regime in Iran to close down the Strait of Hormuz and of Revolutionary Guards Navy boats harassing U.S. Navy ships in the Persian Gulf has caused President Obama to send secret messages to the regime stating his concerns over the closure of the strait and the possibility of an accidental war.
Since then, Iranian officials have been revealing the contents of President Obama's letter to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which indicates a deep desire by the U.S. president for a dialogue with the radical leaders of Iran. However, on Saturday, Iranian officials also claimed that an oral message by Obama delivered through the Swiss ambassador in Tehran is even more revealing than the letter delivered to the Iranian supreme leader.

'Occupy Oakland' protester kills parents
Judging by the overall reporting by the media it would seem the biggest issue they see with the Occupy teen protester who strangled his parents is not that he was hanging out with revolutionaries at Occupy - no no - it was that he was adopted.
