Why Would Obama Broadcast Israeli Attack on Iran's Nuclear Weapons Program in Iran?

Atlas Shrugs | Thursday, February 02, 2012

Why would Obama's Defense Secretary Leon Panetta tell the uber left, anti-Israel NY Times that Israel is going to strike Iran in April, May or June -- before Iran enters a "zone of immunity" to commence building a nuclear bomb?

This is the act of a friend? An acquaintance? A neutral party? Or an enemy of freedom?

Why would anyone in his rational mind give a devout jihadist regime a heads up?
As the point of no return draws closer:

 Thomas Jefferson Club

Dear Patriot,

Carried by Richard Nixon in all five presidential elections and by Ronald Regan all four times he ran, California, where European-Americans are now a shrinking minority, is a state where the Republican Party faces extinction.  John McCain's 2008 general election vote was a mere 36% in California, handing Barack Obama 55 votes of the Electoral College and eclipsing the GOP's capture of the entire mid-West with just one state.

Demographics are destiny.  Many have read Patrick Buchanan's latest best-seller, "Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025."  It is a telling forecast of the decline of the West and what the future may hold.

Here at the Thomas Jefferson Club, we strive to present speakers and issues that you will find nowhere else.  We are a non-partisan, issues-oriented organization and believe in presenting on a variety of challenging topics, including the issues of national identity, immigration and America's historic lineage of Western Culture.

On Sunday, February 12th at 7pm we will present Filip Dewinter, member of the Belgian and European Parliament.  Mr. Dewinter is the leader of Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest), the main opposition party in Belgium.  He will discuss from the front lines the challenges for Western Civilization in Europe and its parallels to the United States.  This event will be held at The Temperance House, 5 South State Street, Newtown, PA.

For a brief overview of Mr. Dewinter and the freedom movement in Europe, please view this video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjoLqlJDgGI.

Another great event of note is this evening (Monday, January 30th) called "Inaugural KTP Tea" with the Kitchen Table Patriots.  The objective of KTP's first "Tea" is to mingle in a less formal setting and bring you up to date on some activities in Harrisburg and Washington.  Also to solicit ideas about what KTP should be doing to champion conservatism right here at home.  The event is free of charge and will be held from 5-7pm at Bobby Simone's Restaurant Loft, 52 East State Street, Doylestown, PA.

All the best,

Jeff McGeary

President, Thomas Jefferson Club

Pamela Geller Event

We want to let you know Philadelphia ZOA's activities concerning the University of Pennsylvania boycott, divestment and sanctions conference (Penn BDS) taking place next weekend  -- as well as a couple good responses.

The Greater Philadelphia District of the Zionist Organization of America has not only been actively engaged in confronting this evil conference but we have been intimately involved in the organized Jewish Community's response and have taken the lead role, through our own ongoing "Buy Israel" campaign, in countering the effort to hurt Israel economically. The organized Jewish community has taken this conference seriously and most of the elements of our community have coalesced to form a unified stance. ZOA has attended and contributed to meetings and conference calls where responses, planning and strategies have been formulated and while there have been points of disagreement, we feel it is important in this instance to speak with one voice. We had input in the official community statement condemning the conference, have been kept apprised of details including the major event with Alan Dershowitz next week and have made suggestions concerning security and other initiatives.

Additionally we have met and spoken with students and partnered with a particularly active student to visit businesses both on campus and around the perimeter  -- with samples in hand -- to encourage them to carry items from Israel in their stores and restaurants. ZOA is making sure and providing -- thanks to the good people of Osem USA -- that there will be items from Israel served at special Shabbat dinners at Penn to coincide with the Penn BDS event. We had a letter encouraging people to "Buy Israel" published last week in the Jewish Exponent.

This conference will be in our area for just a weekend, but the foes of Israel are working all the time to harm Israel and the Jewish people. Therefore we who support Israel must be active beyond the period of this conference. I am attaching a copy of our "Buy Israel" flyer with this email. Please use it, circulate it and print it out and take it with you when you do your shopping.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID

"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere.
My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why?

Louis:
Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934).
The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward.
I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered.
Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters.

Voter Cheating

You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian.
Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.

Background

There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:

a)     12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934

Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand.
I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...

b)     Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID

"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well.
"It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."

c)      Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)

Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh)
"Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918.
"Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

d)     Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler:  No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)

"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens.
"I can vote twenty-two times.
"You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? (Although, in fairness, dead people should only be able to vote once).
http://pawatercooler.com/v3/?tag=philadelphia-voter-fraud

e)     11/7/2011, PA ACORN Lives

"Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include:
* Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate)
* Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman)
* Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in
ACORN's 2005 annual report)
* Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with
Justice)
* Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA)
* Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA)
* Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson)
Action United is located  at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org.
http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2011/acornspecialreport08222011.pdf

There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project.
There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor.
Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's:
"The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/
There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs:

"Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night.
"The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29...
A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement.
"He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..."
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/

What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"?
Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November.
On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things.
The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

 PA Leadership Coalition

Let's Continue our Lawsuit Abuse Reform Momentum!
Urge Your State Legislator to Support H.B. 1976

Last year, you helped us score a major lawsuit abuse reform victory with the enactment of the Fair Share Act.

But our work in this important area isn't over.

We need to continue the fight to provide a level playing field for Pennsylvania's job creators by restoring predictability, balance and common sense to the state's legal system.

That is why Citizens to Protect PA Jobs needs your help to enact "venue reform" legislation (H.B. 1976) that would tighten the rules on where trial lawyers can file their lawsuits.

The current weak rules allow trial lawyers to engage in "venue shopping" - where they file cases in jurisdictions known for awarding outrageous jury awards, even if the injury or damage took place hundreds of miles away.

H.B. 1976 would help end this practice by requiring that the plaintiff needs to either reside in the area where the lawsuit is being filed or the incident must have occurred there.

Please click here today to email your state legislator to urge them to support H.B. 1976.

Venue shopping makes Pennsylvania a magnet for abusive lawsuits against employers - yet another obstacle to job growth during this economic downturn.

Pennsylvania's destination of choice for lawsuit shoppers is Philadelphia, which again was named the American Tort Reform Association's No. 1 Judicial Hellhole for hosting a disproportionate share of Pennsylvania's lawsuits because of its pro-plaintiff, high jury award reputation.

That kind of reputation hurts the state's competitiveness and ability to attract new employers and investment - and creates an unpredictable and potentially costly environment for existing employers.

Let's continue our lawsuit reform momentum. Help us put an end to venue shopping by emailing your state leiglsator in support of H.B. 1976.

Thank you for your time and interest,

Citizens to Protect PA Jobs

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For February 3, 2012

1. Danger Will Robinson . . . or Ann Coulter

This week is a career milestone for me. I appear in Time magazine writing about the state of the conservative movement. As a kid living overseas, my American history teacher subscribed us all to Time and U.S. News and World Report. So it is kind of cool to be in an issue of, between the two, the still printed survivor.

The point I try to make is that the conservative movement is going through a necessary transition after the Bush years. You can read the whole thing here but a really relevant part is here:

"The internecine fights we are witnessing are about a conservative movement starting to separate itself again from Republican Party. Unfortunately, neither of the front runners have legitimate conservative integrity to claim the banner of conservative movement leader, but they will both try. Romney will hold the banner for conservatives within the GOP and Gingrich will hold the banner of the traditional alliance of conservatives with the GOP."

I see this playing out in, of all things, my friend Ann Coulter's column defending Romneycare. Mark Levin offers the definitive rebuttal, which you can listen to here, but there is a point that too few are making that needs to be made.

It relates to the dangers associated with supporting Mitt Romney and Ann Coulter's column is exhibit A on why supporting Romney portends disaster for the conservative movement.

2. Give Me Your Money in the Name of Jesus

Yesterday, in the middle of his campaign National Prayer Breakfast speech, President Obama delighted those of us who love irony by quoting C.S. Lewis. It was an interesting moment in a speech that put forth the notion that taxing the wealthy is right in line with the teachings of Jesus. I mean, Jesus did hang out with tax collectors, right? The idea that government welfare is somehow the fulfillment of Jesus' teaching on charity is a common misconception that many people make, Christians included, and it's the main reason that liberals believe conservatives are Christian hypocrites. Perhaps if the president visited church more often than only during campaign seasons, he might not be so confused. See, not only do we spend time praising God in church, we also gain insight from our pastors who have surely spent more time in the word of God than we have.

While Obama may have been correct in saying that government mandated, shared responsibility is equal to the Islamic belief that those who've been blessed have an obligation to use those blessings to help others, he is incorrect to group in Jesus' teaching, "for unto whom much is given, much shall be required." Aside from the fact that Jesus was discussing requirements from God, not the government, he was actually teaching his disciples that they were stewards of God's gift of Revelation. Their requirement was to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. It's the crux of Christianity that Obama seems to miss. Jesus came because we are imperfect. We could never fulfill all the requirements that the pharisees loved to lord over the people. Jesus' coming ended the rule of law and the began the acceptance that our only way to God was through Him. Yes, Jesus very much emphasized the importance of giving to the poor, but as a reaction in joy to what we've been given; not because of a law. Giving out of obligation is not truly giving, it's merely following the rules. Just ask anyone who's ever written a check to pay their taxes, I doubt you'd find them excited.

The Bible also teaches that everything we have, including money, belongs to God. We are called to be good stewards with His money. The government is the epitome of mismanaging money. If you truly want to help the poor, you should probably seek out charities; but that would require a bit of work on the part of the giver and a great many find it easier to just let the government run every aspect of their lives. So it is that welfare money ends up spitting out of strip club ATMs, and those same people who paid their charity to the government wonder why government hasn't solved the issue. Perhaps they should ask the 27 Democrats who voted against stopping welfare checks from being used at strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores.

3. Senate Porkers Defeat Earmark Ban

Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) learned a valuable lession today about member's desire to go back to the practice of earmarking pet projects. Toomey and McCaskill offered an Amendment to the STOCK Act that would have created a new Senate point of order against earmarks in bills. They were met with bipartisan opposition to this common sense idea.

4. A Former Union Thug's Take On Right-to-Work: What's Right & What's Not...

Having spent nearly a decade as a former union representative and activist (aka "union thug") in a Right-to-Work state, it has been interesting to discuss and watch the activities and debates over the Right-to-Work battles occuring within the various states. Having been on both sides of the labor-management equation, it's easy to see the two sides of the coin-the pluses and the minuses-that come into play with Right to Work legislation.

5. Horserace for February 2, 2012

There are storm clouds on the horizon. A day after Mitt Romney's massive win in Florida he opened his mouth and promptly told conservatives he was incapable of articulating conservatism.

Then Newt Gingrich found a bright line rule in the Republican rules that clearly and precisely states that all delegates awarded before April 1, 2012, must be proportional. There goes giving Romney all fifty delegates from Florida despite what Florida's GOP Chairman says.

Then National Review and other Romney supporters , taking a bit of comfort in his secure win in Florida, decided they could finally express some buyers remorse, or at least now stop zealously defending him and criticize him some.

Then people really examined the exit polls in Florida. What they found was that turnout fell from 2008. But in counties where turn out was up, Newt Gingrich won. Where turnout from 2008 was down, Romney won. This pattern followed South Carolina. The base remains unexcited about Romney and his comments yesterday about the poor and the social safety net keep the base from getting excited.

What should have been Mitt Romney heading into February securing his nomination now becomes an effort to stave off a rear guard action to pick him off. Gingrich and Santorum now have the ammunition they need to keep the Great Coalescing from happening.

What should have been a clear path to the nomination is suddenly in jeopardy.

IDF Intel Chief: 200,000 Missiles Aimed at Israel

Israpundit | By David Lev, INN | February 2, 2012

IDF Intelligence head Aviv Kochavi gave a chilling presentation Thursday morning at the Herzliya Conference on Israeli policy, telling listeners that Israel's enemies had 200,000 rockets and missiles pointed at the country, and could reach all parts of Israel - even the ostensibly safe "center" of Tel Aviv and its suburbs.

Most of the missiles have a range of about 40 kilometers - the range of Qassam and most Katyusha rockets - but thousands of missiles have ranges of hundreds of kilometers, making every location in Israel within their reach. Not only that - but the missiles are more lethal now than ever before. "The warheads on these missiles contain hundreds of kilograms of explosives, not dozens, as in the past. And their firing precision and ability to hit specific targets is also greater," Kochavi said. The rockets are largely located in Lebanon and Syria, with a smaller amount in Gaza - and in Iran, as well, which has thousands of missiles that could reach Israel. "Every tenth house in Lebanon is now a weapons depot," Kochavi said.

Looking Ahead to the Election Coverage of 2048

Election Coverage 2048 - Al-CNN

As the election of 2048 approaches, the candidates from both parties continue to exchange strong views on the issues that affect the lives of Americans. The Party of Democracy and Justice (Hezb-Al-Dimukratie-Wa'al Adalah) continues to maintain that the election will come down to social justice issues.

"With 34 percent unemployment and the price of goat so far out of range of most working families that they have been forced to switch to chicken, it is time that our opponents stopped dodging the issues and took a serious look at the economic consequences of their policies," Bashar Mohammed Hussein Al-Hamdani, said during a campaign stop at a HalalBurger in Peoria, Illinois.

However the ruling Freedom and Religion Party (Hezb Al-Hurriyah Wa'al Allah) denounced this as class warfare. Still preoccupied with the ongoing occupation of the Netherlands and Greece, the party has taken criticism for ignoring the economic problems of the United States while being preoccupied with waging foreign wars in the name of Islam.

Nevertheless President Mohammed Al-Thani, fresh off a pilgrimage from Mecca, vigorously defended his record while conducting a photo op at a San Diego Madrassa. "The Freedom and Religion Party believes in creating opportunities, rather than offering hand outs. Our subjugation of infidel nations has opened up new territories to be dominated by the believers and our vigorous drive for national morality has revived the family unit as an economic force. Our program of heavily fining women who go out with their naked hair exposed and raising the Jizya tax on the People of the Book has also raised billions of dollars that will go toward repaying the nation 93 trillion dollar debt."

The high Jizya tax has provoked outrage in some parts of the United States, but the continuing decline of the nation's non-Muslim population has made the Christian vote much less of a factor in the election. Hamdani has promised to cut the Jizya tax by 20 percent if elected, but it is unclear whether conservative elements in his own party will allow him to do it. National surveys show that since making the proposal, Hamdani's ratings have gone down 9 points in Illinois and 14 points in California.

What's the opposite of FREEDOM?  Submission -- in other words, ISLAM

Fellow patriots,

Please take 1 minute to sign this petition to your Representatives and Senators in Congress, asking them to Co-Sponsor HR 973 and its corresponding legislation in the Senate:

I support H.R. 973 which seeks to ban the use of foreign law in our United States court system. I know that Shariah Law in the United States is a matter of grave, public concern.

The "Islamization" of America is taking place right before our very eyes. I am faxing our Congressmen to make sure that our court system is not infiltrated by foreign law; AND to make sure of two things:

1. ALL Members of Congress must CO-SPONSOR H.R. 973.
2. Urge U.S. Representatives to get H.R. 973 OUT of the Subcommittee NOW!

Do whatever is necessary. Shariah Law embraces a system that is completely against what you and I believe in. I know we are standing up for all moderate religions in America to be treated equally and fairly.

TO SIGN THIS PETITION, CLICK HERE --> http://petitions.christianresponsealerts.com/5876/stop-sharia-in-america-tell-leaders-to-co-sponsor-hr-973/

If you have any questions about why the need to sign this petition is so urgent, read the article below (or at least the highlighted portions), which was written by a genuinely liberal Muslim.

Thank you!

Islam's OIC: The World's Thought Police

by Mudar Zahran
January 19, 2012 at 4:30 am

http://www.stonegateinstitute.org/2767/islam-oic-thought-police

On December 19, 2011, the U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution condemning the negative stereotyping and stigmatization of people based on their religion, and urged member states to take effective measures towards addressing and combating "such incidents." This resolution, based on an initiative from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), was supported by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who hosted a closed-door three-day meeting - apparently one of many in a series called the "Istanbul Process"-- in Washington D.C. with OIC representatives to discuss ways to implement the resolution.

What might sound like a step toward "tolerance," however, is in reality an assault on freedom of speech: a UN-endorsed violation of human rights, co-sponsored by the US, and prompted by the OIC, an organization of 57 Muslim nations, most of which hold the world's worst records on freedom of speech.

The OIC initiative for a UN resolution against "defamation of religion" is not new; the OIC has been promoting it for the last 13 years despite earlier opposition from Western countries. What changed recently was dropping the word "defamation of religion" and stressing "freedom of speech"-- something about which Secretary of State Clinton seems to be enthusiastic.

Afghan pedophilia

In a July 2010 email entitled "Call it Pornistan," we included a Fox News story that said, "So here's the irony: Google ranks Pakistan No. 1 in the world in searches for pornographic terms, outranking every other country in the world in searches per person for certain sex-related content."

As we noted then,
"It's common to find Muslim leaders decrying the "debauchery" and "depravity" of the West, and how this "immorality" is "invading" the Muslim world." What's more, these allegations are frequently used as an excuse for the rise in Islamic terrorism against the West.

America is far from perfect, and it's true that many of the world's porn sites originate in America and western Europe. It's also true that no one is forced to access them.

Now we have the Examiner article below (highlights added) entitled "Afghan Pedophilia: A Way of Life." No one could argue this is a result of "Western debauchery" invading Afghanistan, which has been a hotbed of jihadism for years.

Examiner.com

Afghan Pedophilia: A way of life, say U.S. soldiers and journalists

Jim Kouri

Law Enforcement Examiner

Apologists say that Bacha Bazi or 'Boy Play' is a very old cultural practice in Afghanistan and part of that nation's mainstream.

Citing the Afghanistan strategy review, Vice President Joe Biden reported "great progress" in the counterterrorism effort that has significantly degraded al-Qaeda and the Taliban, particularly their leadership. Lagging behind, he said, is progress on the counterinsurgency front - eliminating terrorist safe havens in Pakistan and building a stable Afghan government.

However, not once did Biden - nor Defense Secretary Leon Panetta -- mention Afghanistan's dirty secret - a large number of pedophiles and pederasts among the Afghan male population.

Pedophilia is a widely-accepted practice in southern Afghanistan, where "boys are given to older men for the sexual gratification of the elder and the sexual education of the child," say many returning U.S. troops.

Alexander's Essay - February 2, 2012

Defeating Obama's Socialist Propaganda

The Fallacy of the Left's 'Fairness' Doctrine

"The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If 'Thou shalt not covet' and 'Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free." --John Adams, 1787

Barack Hussein Obama centered his recent State of Disunion campaign speech on the worn socialist refrain of "fairness."

"We can go in two directions," Obama said. "One is towards less opportunity and less fairness. Or we can fight for ... building an economy that works for everyone, not just a wealthy few."

His subsequent 2012 stump speeches include a variation of these words at his most recent whistle stop in Michigan: "I want this to be a big, bold, generous country where everybody gets a fair shot, everybody is doing their fair share, everybody is playing by the same set of rules."

Let's briefly review our nation's history in regard to Liberty, taxation and "fairness."

The first American Revolution was galvanized by a Tea Party protest against a small three pence tax surcharge on imported tea.

Our Founders were uniformly concerned about government power to lay and collect taxes and, accordingly, enumerated specific limitations on taxing and spending.

James Madison addressed the issue of unlimited spending, and his words are applicable today: "It has been [said], that the power 'to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defence and general welfare of the United States,' amounts to an unlimited commission to exercise every power which may be alleged to be necessary for the common defence or general welfare." Rejecting that "misconstruction" of our Constitution, Madison went on to write, "If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one."

To ensure that federal taxation would be limited to these constraints, Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of our Constitution (the "Taxing and Spending Clause"), as duly ratified in 1789, defined the "Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises," but Section 8 required that such, "Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States." This, in effect, limited the power of Congress to impose direct taxes on individuals, as further outlined in Section 9: "No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or enumeration herein before directed to be taken."

That Constitutional limitation survived until 1861, when the first income tax was imposed to defray costs of the War Between the States. That three-percent tax on incomes over $800 was sold as an emergency war measure. In 1894, congressional Democrats tested the Constitution, passing a peacetime tax of two percent on income above $4,000. A year later, that tariff was overturned by the Supreme Court as not complying with the limitations set forth in Article 1.

However, the greatest historical injury to economic Liberty was dealt in the presidential campaign of 1912, when the father of Democratic Socialism, Woodrow Wilson, was elected on his mastery of class warfare rhetoric, as outlined in Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto in the mid-19th century. He used Marx's populist redistribution theme, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs," to gain passage of the Sixteenth Amendment, which stated, "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

The top tax rate levied under the new Amendment was just seven percent on incomes above $500,000 (about $12 million in 2012 dollars).

But the ability to impose direct taxes gave rise to a century of class warfare political rhetoric that would be anathema to our Founders and the Liberty they fought so hard to secure for their posterity.

Two decades later, Franklin Roosevelt gained acceptance of his New Deal programs via his refined classist rhetoric -- and American socialist propaganda has been the bookmarked page in the political playbook of all Democrat presidents since.

Though the contrast between, and debate about, Leftist Tyranny versus Essential Liberty was boldly reinvigorated by Ronald Reagan during his two terms of office, never before the election of Barack Hussein Obama in 2008 have so many Americans fully recognized the cumulative manifestation of collectivist socialism.

A second Tea Party protest has been brewing since Obama took office, demanding tax reform -- but no such reformation will succeed unless accompanied by tax conformation, ensuring that taxes collected are only for expenditures authorized by our Constitution.

Post Your Opinion: Tell us how you will act to oppose Obama's re-election.

Laying the groundwork for his 2012 re-election bid, Obama's SOTU was devoid of any free-market economic remedies, and every "solution" was predicated upon government engineering via intervention, regulation or redistribution -- consistent with his perfected version of Wilson's and Roosevelt's Democratic Socialist platform.

Additionally, Obama has dumbed-down his classist "fairness" rhetoric to comport with the latest populist appeals of the "occupy movement."

Anticipating that his opponent in the general election will be Mitt Romney, an easy-to-target "rich Republican," Obama has rallied his own stable of uber-wealthy Leftists in support of his "Wall Street v Main Street" disinformation campaign.

In his SOTU, Obama declared, "You can call this class warfare all you want. But asking a billionaire to pay at least as much as his secretary in taxes? Most Americans would call that common sense."

To further advance his classist "divide and conquer" strategy, he trotted out Debbie Bosanek, the secretary of billionaire Obamaphile Warren Buffett, as a prop for invoking the Buffet Rule -- "If you make more than $1 million a year, you should not pay less than 30 percent in taxes."

"Right now, Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate than his secretary. Do we want to keep these tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans?" asked Obama. Predictably, our Class-Warrior-in-Chief has refused to tell the American people how much Ms. Bosanek is paid in order to be taxed at a higher rate than her boss. Forbes Magazine, however, uses current IRS tax tables to estimate that she makes "well above $200,000 annually." Clearly, Ms. Bosanek isn't just any old secretary.

"Facts," as John Adams noted, "are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

The fact is that Warren Buffet, like Mitt Romney and other "wealthy Americans," pays much more than the much-maligned "15 percent" on capital gains. Before being taxed on his profits, the corporations producing them are already taxed at 35 percent -- the highest corporate tax rate in the world. So, in effect, these vilified wealthy Americans are already paying more than 50 percent in taxes, far above the 30 percent rate of Obama's beloved "Buffett Rule," and far, far above his "15 percent" claim.

Here in our humble editorial shop, we call Obama's deceptive prevarication, The Big Lie.

Now, Obama might make a pitch for fairness if the top 25 percent of income earners were paying a lower percentage of the nation's tax bill than the percentage of national income they earn. But the top 25 percent are currently paying 87 percent of that bill while earning 65 percent of that income.

However, populist rhetoric trumps facts, where there is not enough "common sense" to prevail. As George Bernard Shaw said, "A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul."

Moreover, the real tragedy is that Obama's senseless sycophants don't comprehend the great error of his "fairness" rhetoric. The capital Obama proposed to remove from the economy in the form of even more disproportionate taxes (for expenditures not authorized by our Constitution) will decrease the available pool of capital for economic expansion, job creation and higher standards of living for ALL working Americans.

Post Your Opinion: How can the next Republican presidential candidate best defend free enterprise?

Obama's "fairness" farce to raise taxes and shrink capital is the last component of his macroeconomic agenda to break the back of free enterprise, in order to achieve his objective of "fundamentally transforming the United States of America" from a nation guided by Rule of Law as supported by economic Liberty, to one subdued by the rule of men under the oppression of Democratic Socialism.

In 1819, Chief Justice John Marshall famously observed, "An unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy; because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation."

Should Obama gain a second term, he is virtually assured "an unlimited power to tax" beyond the limits free enterprise can bear. The outcome of the next election will be either a sunrise or sunset on Liberty.

While Leftists may have the constitutional authority to levy direct taxes on income, they do not have the authority to levy such taxes for expenditures not expressly authorized by our Constitution -- though they have done so with impunity for generations.

In 1794, as recorded in the Annals of Congress, James Madison declared, "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents..."

To this day, no constitutional articulation of such spending power exists, and challenging that authority exposes the Achilles' heel of the generations of socialist programs espoused by Obama and his Leftist cadres.

So, can an "establishment Republican" defeat Obama with a "tax reform" platform?

No -- unless he centers the debate on the fact that our Constitution provides no authority for the expenditures Obama proposes, charges him with violating his "sacred oath" to "support and defend," and vigorously makes the case that Obama has offended American Liberty in the process.

It is just such a breach of trust that gave rise to the first American Revolution. Focusing on Obama's Breach of Oath will ensure that Liberty can be sustained with ballots rather than bullets.

The next Republican presidential candidate must not only defeat Obama's rhetoric with Rule of Law defining the role of government, but if he succeeds, he must devote his administration, first and foremost, to real tax reform and implementation of either a flat tax or national sales tax.

As far as the "Buffett Rule" is concerned, Buffett and his secretary, and all American taxpayers, are being overtaxed for illegal expenditures.

Exit Newt

By R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.

He's part and parcel of the 1960s generation's larger failures.

WASHINGTON -- Ah, yes, Newt Gingrich did in the last days of the Florida primary precisely what I predicted he would do. He hurled wild charges at Mitt Romney that suggested Newt was losing his grip. He charged Romney with lying and falling into the hands of George Soros and Goldman Sachs, and he did this while seeking the Republican presidential nomination!

Newt quoted Soros as saying, "We think either Obama or Romney's fine, but Gingrich, he would change things." Citing Goldman Sachs' profiting from the bailout, he linked the Wall Street firm to anti-Gingrich ads, filling in the dots: "Those ads," he averred, "are your money recycled to attack me." On Sunday, he suggested that Rick Santorum drop out of the race and support him. Santorum had left the campaign trail to be with his desperately ill daughter. That is the kind of grace we have come to expect from Gingrich, who, by the way, supplied no evidence of Goldman Sachs' or of Soros's aiding Romney.

Obama's Calculated Deception

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published February 1, 2012 on The American Spectator website.

Calculated deception as a central public manipulation strategy practiced by President Obama involves the President taking advantage of what he thinks the average person doesn't know and won't be told by a compliant media. Such calculated deception was central to last week's State of the Union Address. That address is useful only as an outline of the President's reelection strategy.

A powerful practical answer will come at the end of March in the form of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's 2013 budget proposal, which will be passed by the Republican-controlled House. That budget, which all the Republicans will run on, and the President's State of the Union Address will frame the 2012 election debate.

He Thinks You're Stupid

The Obama SOTU exhibited again Obama's core "progressive" conviction that the average American is hopelessly stupid. Obama bemoans America as "a country where a shrinking number of people do really well, while a growing number of Americans barely get by." You may identify with that statement, as it correctly applies to Obama's America today. But not to Reagan's America, or my America.

Obama's Racial Politics

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published February 1, 2012 on Townhall.com.

There's been a heap of criticism placed upon President Barack Obama's domestic policies that have promoted government intrusion and prolonged our fiscal crisis and his foreign policies that have emboldened our enemies. Any criticism of Obama pales in comparison with what might be said about the American people who voted him in to the nation's highest office.

Obama's presidency represents the first time in our history that a person could have been elected to that office who had long-standing close associations with people who hate our nation. I'm speaking of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for 20 years, who preached that blacks should sing not "God Bless America," but "God damn America." Then there's William Ayers, retired professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago but formerly a member of the Weather Underground, an anti-U.S. group that bombed the Pentagon, U.S. Capitol and other government buildings. Although Ayers was never convicted of any crime, he told a New York Times reporter, in the wake of the September 2001 terrorist attack, "I don't regret setting bombs. ... I feel we didn't do enough." Obama has served on a foundation board, appeared on panels, and even held campaign events in Ayers' home, joined by Ayers' former-fugitive wife, Bernardine Dohrn. Bill Ayers' close association with Obama is reflected by his admission that he helped write Obama's memoirs, Dreams from My Father.

Obama's Recess Appointments Unwarranted, Unnecessary and Unconstitutional

As a member of the Conservative Action Project, CEO Susan Carleson and leaders of 32 other organizations, representing a broad cross section of the conservative movement, are united in objecting to Obama's "Recess" appointments as unwarranted, unnecessary and unconstitutional.

MEMO FOR THE MOVEMENT: Obama "Recess" Appointments Unwarranted, Unnecessary and Unconstitutional.

RE: On January 4, President Obama purported to appoint three individuals to be members of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) (two of whom were only nominated two weeks before and had not even completed the necessary questionnaire required by Senate) and one person to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). All of these positions require confirmation by the U.S. Senate.

ISSUE-IN-BRIEF: The Constitution allows the President to make "recess Appointments" - bypassing the Senate under only one circumstance: "The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate." But the Senate did not adjourn its session and still had officers to receive nominations from the President. Again, the Constitution is very clear on this point: "Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days." In December the House did not consent to the Senate taking a recess.

Welfare Wars: Anatomy of a Smear

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published January 30, 2012 in The Washington Times.

When I was a copy editor at the Los Angeles Times, a young reporter submitted an article about a single mother having trouble obtaining government checks.

The story was designed to elicit outrage at callous bureaucrats who should have been showering the poor woman with subsidies. I asked the reporter if she knew anything about the father. Was he providing any assistance? Was he a deadbeat dad?

The reporter, who probably has gone on to MSNBC, responded: "How dare you ask that question? How dare you be so judgmental? It's nobody's business."

Well, given that the unfortunate woman was asking taxpayers to take the place of the man who fathered her children, it was everybody's business.

A Missed Opportunity

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell and ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published January 28, 2012 on Townhall.com.

The official Republican response to the President's State of the Union Address was fine--as far as it went. But Gov. Mitch Daniels missed a golden opportunity to put before the American people a better vision of family, faith, and freedom.

Interestingly, the only mention of family in Gov. Daniels' response was his praise for President Obama's own family. Let me stipulate: The Obama family is a model family, apparently devoted to one another. The president even lives happily under the same roof with his mother-in-law. Now, that's devotion.

But Gov. Daniels could have noted that the policies of the Obama administration are the most antagonistic to the family of any administration in history. This is a fact. With 42% of American children born out-of-wedlock, a tragedy of fatherlessness is being visited on millions of homes. Bill Bennett rightly calls this "the broken hearth." And broken hearths lead to broken hearts.

National Right To Work

I have exciting news.

After an almost ten-year struggle involving hundreds of thousands of mobilized Hoosiers, Indiana can finally enjoy all the benefits of a Right to Work law.

On Wednesday, the Indiana Senate passed the Right to Work bill to free nearly 200,000 Hoosiers who have been forced to pay union dues or fees for the privilege of getting up every day and going to work so they can provide for their families.

Governor Mitch Daniels signed the bill a few hours later, making Indiana America's 23rd Right to Work state.

Read more about this historic victory for worker freedom in the Indianapolis Star, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, and Fox News.

The ten-year battle that led to this victory would never have been possible without the help of our generous and loyal supporters, who stuck with us when all the naysayers declared that we could never succeed.

That includes not only the enthusiasm and activism of grassroots Hoosiers but the commitment of Right to Work supporters from across the country whose generosity helped make Right to Work a reality in Indiana.

Lawmakers passed the bill despite a hostile weeks-long protest at the capitol -- and at many of their homes -- by several thousand pro-forced unionism protesters.

This happened because those legislators were also receiving tens of thousands of phone calls, letters, emails and postcards from pro-Right to Work Hoosiers all across the state.

Indiana is now the first Right to Work state in the Manufacturing Belt, and Hoosiers are certain to enjoy a significant advantage over all of their neighbors and the rest of the 27 non-Right to Work states.

Virtually every site selection consultant on record has testified that as many as half of their clients will not even consider expanding or relocating to non-Right to Work states.

That's a lesson Governor Daniels said he experienced first-hand when Volkswagen chose to build a new plant in Right to Work Tennessee -- after the company wouldn't even take his phone calls
.

I want to thank the thousands of dedicated Hoosiers who have stood up over the years to demand passage of the Indiana Right to Work law.

Concerned citizens like you made this possible with your steady support for worker freedom and the National Right to Work Committee.

I know you'll be there with us going forward as we continue to mobilize for worker freedom in other states and for roll-call votes in Congress on the National Right to Work Act.

Sincerely,

Mark Mix

Pelosi criticizes cancer foundation for break with Planned Parenthood
By Mike Lillis

The Susan G. Komen Foundation's recent decision to cut ties with Planned Parenthood was an "unfortunate" move that will harm women's health, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warned Thursday.

"I feel very sad about it," Pelosi said during her weekly press briefing in the Capitol. "Their collaboration with Planned Parenthood... was one that benefitted women's health, and I feel sad that this decision on their part is to the detriment of women's health."

The Komen Foundation, the nation's foremost breast-cancer charity, raised plenty of eyebrows Wednesday by announcing it would no longer provide funding to Planned Parenthood for women's cancer screenings. Komen cited a new policy of not funding groups being probed by Congress.

Obama hits Romney with subliminal messaging attack

The White House insists the president isn't in campaign mode. And in the tradition of most incumbents, Obama never mentions Romney by name.

Senate approves bill banning insider trading by lawmakers, 96-3

The Senate action puts pressure on House Republicans to pass similar legislation to quell allegations of congressional self-dealing at a time when Congress's approval rating is at an all-time low.

CBO Baseline: A Few Quirks Do Not Distract from a Dismal Picture

By J.D. Foster Ph.D.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its baseline budget outlook through fiscal year 2022 on January 31. The analysis is as creditable to the CBO as its message is daunting to the nation. After squandering three years in which the signal consequences have been persistent high unemployment coupled with an unprecedented increase in the national debt, President Obama has left the nation facing a budget deficit exceeding $1.1 trillion for 2012 and averaging almost as much each year for the 10-year forecast. Assuming, as most do, that Congress and the President will spend the coming year largely inert on fiscal matters, whoever is in the White House next year will face a fiscal calamity of epic proportions.

Heritage Fix Health Care Policy

Obamacare Ends Medicare As We Know It

As budget season approaches, premium support is gaining traction as the only viable option to save Medicare. In a recent Politico article, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is quoted as saying liberals will use Obamacare's new provisions to combat a conservative budget that reforms Medicare using premium support.

Hoyer told reporters, "Yes, we need to make Medicare viable. We believe that the health care bill-and very frankly CBO (Congressional Budget Office) believes the health care bill will do something that Medicare very badly needs, and that is to constrain price escalation in health care." So the left is still claiming that the health care law will help sustain Medicare's future-but Heritage just published a new Fact Sheet showing the opposite.

Hoyer couldn't be more wrong. Obamacare will not solve Medicare's fiscal problem. The health law is already in the budget baseline, yet Medicare still faces trillions in unfunded obligations. Obviously, Obamacare did not solve the problem.

Instead, Obamacare's tinkering with the current program will essentially end Medicare as we know it by replacing the existing fee-for-service (FFS) payment system, the heart of traditional Medicare, with top-down payment and delivery schemes independent of the consumer choice and competition that would enable them to prove their value. Worse, new layers of bureaucracy and compliance will discourage physicians who are already wrestling with reams of paperwork and will undermine their professional independence in the practice of medicine.

What's a better way to fix Medicare? And how much could we save by bringing free market reforms to it? In this week's Heritage in Focus, expert Bob Moffit discusses these questions and more. Click here to listen

February 2, 2012     White House Picks Fight with Conscience, Congress Fights Back

A remarkable page in the history of American conscientious objection is being written by citizens throughout the United States who are standing up and saying, "We cannot-we will not-comply with this unjust law."

These are not unemployed, bedraggled 20-somethings looking for a free pass on student loans and camping trips in downtown parks, nor are they unknowns with little influence.

These citizens are Roman Catholic bishops throughout the United States. And in statement after statement issued in diocese after diocese, many bishops are publicly declaring that they "cannot" and "will not" comply with "this unjust law."

The unjust law in question is a mandate issued last August by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that requires non-exempt private health insurance plans to provide coverage for all Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved contraception methods, sterilization, counseling and education.

On the ground that certain FDA-approved contraceptives can sometimes cause chemical abortions, many sources are also arguing that the mandate requires private health insurance plans to provide coverage for abortion.

As James Capretta observes at National Review, not only does this new regulation require religious objectors who work for secular employers to pay for such products in their premiums, but "HHS also wants religious employers to cover such products in their health plans."This is a religious freedom problem for many employers, including two religious colleges that have recently challenged the mandate in court."

President Barack Obama's Administration has decided to implement a scorched-earth, last-mile policy of mandating that nearly every health insurance plan provide these morally controversial services. In so doing, the Administration has backed what the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling an "unprecedented" attack on religious liberty.

Congress can take steps to protect religious freedom in health care.

For example, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act of 2011 (H.R. 1179, introduced by Representative Jeff Fortenberry, R-NE, and S. 1467 from Senator Roy Blunt, R-MO) is designed "to ensure that health care stakeholders retain the right to provide, purchase, or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs and moral convictions."

In addition, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has announced plans to introduce the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 2012, which specifically addresses the religious freedom problems caused by the HHS regulation.

Freedom requires vigilance and action. Religious freedom is no different. When government officials violate freedom instead of protecting it, American citizens have a duty to take a stand and do what's right.

Morning Bell: Obamacare's Latest Victim Is Religious Freedom

It has not even been two years since Obamacare was enacted, and already the President's health care law has taken another victim - the religious freedoms Americans hold dear, as reflected by the First Amendment.

The Obama Administration recently reaffirmed a rule under Obamacare that requires many religious employers to provide health care coverage for all FDA-approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and related education and counseling. On the grounds that certain FDA-approved contraceptive methods can sometimes "cause the demise of embryos both after and before uterine implantation," many groups also believe that the rule forces them to cover abortion.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling the contraception mandate an "unprecedented" attack on religious freedom. And in statement after statement issued in diocese after diocese, many bishops are publicly declaring that they "cannot" and "will not" comply with "this unjust law." As Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon explained, "Unless this rule is overturned, Catholics will be compelled either to violate our consciences or to drop health care coverage for our employees."

High Cost Of Being Alive

One Dead Canary Coming Up!
By Daren Jonescu
CanadaFreePress.com

A few minutes past midnight on Monday, January 21st, 2013, someone will give birth to the day's first American baby. With any luck, that baby will have become the first American to see his first light of day in a post-Obama world. That's the good news. Unfortunately, the celebration of that good fortune will have to wait a while. For there is also some bad news-some really bad, you'd-better-sit-down-for-this, maybe-you'd-like-to-reconsider-this-whole-being-born-thing kind of news: That baby owes $185,000. Before interest. And that figure, even if the baby is born under a most propitious star, will grow by $5,000 per year, at least until he, along with the other babies born that day, is old enough to rise up and take action to stop the avalanche.

The Telos of Malthusian Environmentalism?

(Steven Hayward)

Mark this up as a triumph of environmental education in the schools-headline from Asia:

Teen kills mom, sister to save planet

A 15-year-old boy who killed his mother and sister because he believed there were too many people in the world was ordered to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital, a Hong Kong news report said on Thursday.

Kan Ka-leung used a cleaver to hack to death his mother and younger sister, later telling an ambulance officer that fewer people in the world would be more environmentally-friendly, the South China Morning Post reported.

Kan, now 16, pleaded not guilty to two charges of murder, but guilty to manslaughter claiming diminished responsibility, which the prosecution accepted.

Reports presented in court agreed Kan was schizophrenic and he was ordered to be detained indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital at a hearing on Wednesday.

The court heard the killings took place around 2am on July 22, 2010. The mother, Lam Lin-kan, 40, sustained 17 serious chop wounds. Kan's sister, Kan Chung-yue, 12, received 30 cleaver injuries.

Kan, described by his teachers as a good student, told police he had intended to continue killing "all bad people" but had called emergency services because he had injured his hand.

GK To the Rescue

(Steven Hayward)

I've been meaning for a while now to start another occasional series, like my previous ones recalling Hayek and James Burnham, to recycle some timeless gems from G.K. Chesterton.  Via the Chesterton page on Facebook, here's a Chesterton meditation perfect for our election season, from a 1921 interview with the Cleveland Press:

The men whom the people ought to choose to represent them are too busy to take the jobs. But the politician is waiting for it. He's the pestilence of modern times. What we should try to do is make politics as local as possible. Keep the politicians near enough to kick them. The villagers who met under the village tree could also hang their politicians to the tree. It's terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hung today.

My own favorite Chesterton story, which may be apocryphal, is about the time the portly Chesterton encountered the very thin George Bernard Shaw, and said to him, "My God, man, from the looks of you there's a famine in the land."  To which Shaw replied, "And from the looks of you, you caused it!"

A modest proposal

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 07:28 AM PST

(Scott Johnson)

The Obama administration has performed in the mode of bread-and-circuses more or less since day one. The 2010 elections put a crimp in its style, but with the 2012 election looming, its creative juices are flowing again. The latest giveaway scheme is another mortgage refinance plan that promises free money for qualifying borrower. CBS News laments the plans's dim prospects in Congress. Those damn Republicans!

The plan is carefully crafted to avoid adding to the deficit: "The administration wants to pay for this with new fees to be levied on financial firms with more than $50 billion in assets. In his State of the Union speech Obama said doing this 'will give those banks that were rescued by the taxpayers a chance to repay a deficit of trust.'" That "deficit of trust" - is it bigger or smaller than the budget deficit we're running this year?

Despite the bill's dim prospects, CBS News is not entirely distraught: "Although the plan's failure could be bad news for some homeowners in need, it could still be good news for President Obama's re-election efforts." You see, there is a bright side after all.

Next up, the Obama administration will take a leaf from ancient Israel. It is hard at work on a proposal to make 2013 a Jubilee year - to be financed by adoption of the Buffett Rule. I'm sure the administration can make the math work out. As an added bonus, it would raise constitutional issues knottier than Obamacare's.

Although the plan's failure would be bad news for debtors in need - there's never a shortage of those - it could still be good news for President Obama's reelection efforts. One downside: it might be tough to get a loan the rest of this year.

Calling All Students!

(Steven Hayward)

All politically curious college students or recent graduates out there (or faculty members with bright students-this means especially you Jean Y!) ought to have a look at AEI's Summer Institute, a month-long program from June 17 to July 14 that offers total immersion into the world of public policy, economics, strategy, and statesmanship.  I'll admit that we're inspired partly by the long-running Publius Fellows program of the Claremont Institute (and in fact the in-house manager of the AEI program is a Publius alumna).

The four week program offers four distinct tracks: economics, taught by our director of economic studies, Kevin Hassett; foreign and defense policy with Tom Donnelly and Gary Schmitt; American political leadership taught by Yours Truly; and public policy analysis, taught by a team of AEI's top ninjas.  (I haven't finished my syllabus and reading list yet, but it will feature examinations of the usual suspects, from the Founders through TR, Wilson, FDR, Truman, Ronaldus Magnus, etc.  Hey, isn't there a good new book on this?)  The application deadline is March 31.

Here's our president, Arthur Brooks, explaining the Summer Institute, along with some student endorsements from last summer:

That revolting Volt, cont'd

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 04:21 AM PST

(Scott Johnson)

The situation with GM's (and the taxpayers') Volt is a good news/bad news story. The good news is that Volt awareness has gone up over the last two months. The bad news is that Volt awareness has gone up in the wake of publicity over the government's investigation of the car's potential safety hazard.

The Detroit News reports that the Volt had its worst sales month since August, as negative publicity over fire risks hurt vehicles sales in January. The publicity gave rise to another good news/bad news situation: "GM sold just 603 Volts - above its sales in January 2011 but far below GM's best-ever sales month in December, when GM sold 1,529 Volts."

More good news: the numbers are way up from July 2011, when GM sold 125 Volts and the center of Volt gravity could be located in Jonathan Last's neighborhood. Of course, the bad news is that every one of these sales comes with a taxpayer subsidy of $7500.

On second thought, maybe the good news is the bad news. To apply the Leninist doctrine: the worse, the better.

Is Obama Right About Engineers? Or Is He Just Clueless?

Feb 02, 2012 01:49 pm

Tweet During a recent video chat session, President Obama told a woman that he could not understand why her engineer husband was unemployed because "industry tells me that they don't have enough highly skilled engineers." However, data from the American Community Survey collected by the Census Bureau show that there are a total of 1.8 million U.S.-born [...]

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 278 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

2012 Update

  • At the National Prayer Breakfast today Barack Obama said something that took people's breath away. He laid out his entire socialist agenda and essentially said, "Jesus made me do it." I'll write more about the specifics of his speech tomorrow.

But watch your nightly news broadcast tonight very closely to see how many pundits fret over the separation of church and state and clobber Obama for his faith-based policies. That's exactly what they do to conservatives every time we defend normal marriage or argue for the right to life. Surely, the media will hold Obama to the same standard, right? Don't hold your breath. It's okay for Democrats to preach from the Gospel of Redistribution, but it is an affront to the Constitution when conservatives try to defend traditional values.
  • Mitt Romney ran into a buzz saw yesterday. Romney made this remark during a CNN interview:

"I'm not concerned about the very poor -- we have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich -- they're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling."

Of course, the media and Obama's left-wing allies immediately took the first sentence out of context and attacked him. That's clearly unfair. But guess what? That's politics.

The more disturbing part is that this is not the conservative message. Our message is that conservative policies will lift the poor out of poverty. We don't argue that we want to make the safety net better or bigger, we believe that our policies will make it less necessary, and hopefully shrink it. That is the philosophy behind the mantra of less taxes, less spending and smaller government. That is not a "bash the poor" message, but one of greater personal responsibility, more freedom and more prosperity for everyone.

  • In yesterday's report I urged supporters to take arguments about electability with a grain of salt. Here's why: New polling data suggests that the strongest GOP candidate in the critical swing state of Ohio may in fact be Senator Rick Santorum.

Planned Parenthood Takes A Hit

The Susan G. Komen foundation, the nation's largest charity devoted to breast cancer research, announced this week that it is terminating funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. Various reports suggest the Komen foundation gave as much as $680,000 to Planned Parenthood last year.

The left erupted in fits of rage at this news. The radical group MoveOn.org has organized an online protest. Left-wing blogs and media are aiming their fire at Karen Handel, Komen's vice president for public policy. Handel once served as Georgia's Secretary of State and ran for governor in 2010 as a pro-life candidate.

According to the Komen foundation, the decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood was the result of a new policy with "more stringent eligibility and performance criteria." Responding to the left's criticism, Komen's CEO Nancy Brinker said that she launched "a comprehensive review of our grants and standards" in 2010. For the record, Karen Handel was hired by the Komen foundation in April 2011.

Brinker went on say, "We will never bow down to political pressure. The scurrilous accusations being hurled at this organization are profoundly hurtful to so many of us who put our heart, soul and lives into this organization."

One aspect of the Komen foundation's "more stringent eligibility" requirements is that no funds can be given to organizations under investigation by local, state or federal authorities. Planned Parenthood is currently facing a probe by the House Committee on Oversight and Investigations to determine if taxpayer funds have been used to perform abortions in violation of federal law.

Reports, however, suggest that this change in policy may not result in a permanent ban on funding to Planned Parenthood, but rather a temporary suspension. While citing the congressional investigation as the reason for the cutoff, a Komen spokeswoman told the Associated Press, "We want to maintain a positive relationship with [Planned Parenthood]. We're not making any judgment." In other words, if the House investigation clears Planned Parenthood, the funding may well resume. (And, of course, if Nancy Pelosi were still Speaker, this investigation would not be happening at all!)

But the denial of funds could also be justified by "more stringent performance criteria" too. Planned Parenthood claims that it performs basic health services, but we learned last year that Planned Parenthood in fact does not do many mammograms.

Contempt Of Congress

Attorney General Eric Holder was in the hot seat again today, facing renewed questions about exactly how much the Justice Department knew about the botched gun-walking program "Operation Fast and Furious." Confronted with a new report that top Justice officials clearly had more knowledge than previously disclosed, Holder stuck to his past denials.

Members of Congress have repeatedly demanded that more information be released in order to determine who knew what and when. But faced with continued stonewalling by the Justice Department, Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) warned the Attorney General, "I would urge the chairman to move on a contempt citation against you."

Holder isn't the only official facing such action. House Republicans have become increasingly frustrated by the administration's pattern of stonewalling every investigation. On Monday, Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), who is leading the investigation into Solyndra, warned that his committee was also considering a contempt citation against the White House for "slow walking" the release of documents related to the bankrupt stimulus-funded company.

Pew Polls Show Jewish Shift Toward GOP, Away from Democrats

Washington, D.C. (February 2, 2012) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) responded today to an analysis from the Pew Research Center showing a significant increase in Jewish support for Republicans between 2008 and 2011.

RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:

"This notable analysis from the unimpeachable professionals at the Pew Research Center shows a significant shift in Jewish political identification - a shift toward Republicans and away from Democrats. This was not the softer move of more Jewish respondents saying that they 'lean' Republican, but a solid shift in Jewish self-identification as Republicans.

"The Pew analysis today offers another in a series of critical data points highlighting this trend within the Jewish community. We had the strong Jewish vote for Republican Bob Turner in the special election in NY's 9th district last year. The American Jewish Committee poll in the fall of 2011 showed a significant erosion in Jewish support for President Obama. In that poll, for the first time, a plurality or majority of Jewish respondents disapproved of the President's handling of key issues such as the economy and the U.S.-Israel relationship.

"These facts reinforce the case we have been making that the Republicans are making political inroads in the Jewish community."

Background:

In an analysis released today, the Pew Research Center noted:

Even Jewish voters, who have traditionally been and remain one of the strongest Democratic constituencies, have moved noticeably in the Republican direction; Jewish voters favored the Democrats by a 52-point margin in 2008 but now prefer the Democratic Party by a significantly smaller 36-point margin.

SOURCE:  http://www.pewforum.org/Politics-and-Elections/Trends-in-Party-Identification-of-Religious-Groups.aspx

Republicans have also seen gains among Jewish voters, who have long been strong supporters of the Democratic Party. In 2008, 72% of Jews identified themselves as Democrats or said they leaned toward the Democratic Party, and Democrats held a 52-point advantage among this group. In 2011, the Democratic advantage among Jews has shrunk to 36 points, with 29% of the Jewish population aligning with the GOP. While the majority of Jews are still Democrats or lean toward the Democratic Party, Democrats' dominance among this group has weakened since the last presidential election. In fact, Jews are the only religious group analyzed in which the percentage who identify themselves as Republican (as opposed to leaning toward the GOP) has risen significantly. [Emphasis added.]

SOURCE: http://www.pewforum.org/Politics-and-Elections/Trends-in-Party-Identification-of-Religious-Groups-affiliation.aspx

Reporter Josh Nathan-Kazis in the Jewish Daily Forward quotes Pew researchers on what distinguishes the data on Jewish voters in their analysis:

"The increase among Jews is greater than in the general public, and greater than the increase in... other religious groups," said Alan Cooperman, associate director for research at Pew...

"For most religious groups and for the public as a whole, the trend toward the GOP has come from people who are increasingly likely to say they lean toward the Republican party," said Greg Smith, a senior researcher at Pew. "Jewish voters are really the exception. That's the one religious group we've analyzed where the shift toward the GOP is not among leaners, but rather among actual Republican identifiers."

They Don't Feel Safe

By James Barnhart on January 23, 2012

They Don't Feel Safe
They Don't Feel Safe
I am in a position that doesn't lend to making friends at work. Because of what needed to be done, I fully expected this and this is what I do. I don't claim to be perfect, but I have experience understanding what it takes to make a place profitable and a major part of that is having the right people to do the job and protecting their efforts by surrounding them with like minded people. SO, needless to say, I have a target on my back by those that feel I am asking too much or stepping on toes.

However, I have to make a comment on recent events. I carry a gun. I have for almost twenty years. I have had to defend myself with a gun when violent criminals tried to take my life for greed. I have also had to threaten the use of the gun to protect others lives from criminal violence. I train law abiding citizens to use the utility of violence to protect themselves against criminal violence. No matter how much you believe violence is not an answer, I can tell you that when your life is in immediate danger, where it takes less than one second for someone to pull a trigger or two seconds for them to step to you and bury a knife in your chest, and the police are an average of 11 minutes away, violent self defense is almost always the only option you have to save your life or the life of another. The owner of the company I work for understands this, knows my background, and has authorized me to carry at work.

I served my country with honor. While doing so I also was certified as an auxiliary police officer through the D.O.D. police. I have held secret clearance, been background checked on almost a yearly basis. I have had psych eval after psych eval. I've been through hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of training in threat assessment, conflict negotiation, violent behavior analysis, unarmed and armed self defense tactics, executive protection, fugitive apprehension, surveillance, etc. I have been entrusted to wear a badge in the name of the law, to break through criminals doors to bring them to justice, to put my life on the line to protect others. I have been vetted. When law enforcement and private security officers need training to learn how to operate in instances of mortal combat, they have come to organizations I have worked for and to myself for training on how to do it right; How to minimize danger to the public and themselves while engaging violent people to stop them from killing. Anyone who knows anything about me and the few friends I have know that I would put my life on the line to protect them in almost any situation excluding anything that would put my family in jeopardy. If they spent as much energy learning who I am as they do trying to derail my efforts they would not say they don't feel safe because I carry a gun.

Romney Told Catholic Hospitals to Administer Abortion Pills

It's the clip destined to be featured in a future GOP Obama attack ad and it's pretty devastating. Jesse Jackson: It's morally wrong to criticize the President

Jesse Jackson has come out and said it is wrong to criticize the president (unless it's George W. Bush, of course, because they're still blaming things on him). If you criticize President Obama apparently it will be your fault when a crazy guy, who has been hanging out at Occupy Wall Street, grabs an AK-47 and starts firing shots at the White House. In the hospital the relatives gathered in the waiting room, where a family member lay gravely ill. Finally, the doctor came in looking tired and somber.

'I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news,' he said as he surveyed the worried faces. 'The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain transplant. It's an experimental procedure, very risky, but it is the only hope. Insurance will cover the procedure, but you will have to pay for the BRAIN.'

The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a time, someone asked, 'How much will a brain cost?'

The doctor quickly responded, '$5,000 for a Democrat's brain; $200 for a Republican's brain.'

The moment turned awkward. Some of the Democrats actually had to 'try' to not smile, avoiding eye contact with the Republicans. A man unable to control his curiosity, finally blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, 'Why is the Democrat's brain so much more than a Republican's brain?'

The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and explained to the entire group, 'It's just standard pricing procedure. We have to price the Republicans' brains a lot lower because they're used."

SEND THIS TO A SMART Republican WHO NEEDS A LAUGH, AND TO ANY Democrat WHOM YOU THINK CAN HANDLE IT!
