The Daily Email of January 26 offers me an opportunity to remind your readers once more of Rep. RoseMarie Swanger's efforts to derail the implementation of Sharia Law into Pennsylvania and her need of their support.

As you know, Sharia law is the path to totalitarian rule enforced by a fascist based and unrelenting political force known to us all as Islam.

The comment at the bottom of The Blaze article you posted says it all..."Islam is like a cancer, you either defeat it or it will defeat you".

We in Pennsylvania are fortunate to have someone in the Legislature who recognizes the terror of Sharia law. Ms Swanger introduced HB 2029 seven months ago and sought co-sponsors to smooth its passage through committee and a final vote.

Only one Bucks county representative is listed as a co-sponsor, the Honorable Paul Clymer.

We have only a few days left, February 3 is the cutoff date, to change that. I am urging your readers to make it a point to get in their families, friends and neighbors faces about this. It is imperative for the preservation of our State and Nation that Sharia law impementation not only be slowed down but stopped dead in its tracks.

Ask everyone you know to visit, call or email their State Representative to encourage them to contact Rep. Swanger's secretary, Lily Horst at 717-787-2686 or email  her at lhorst@pahousegop.com to be added as a co-sponsor.

A link to HB 2029 is available at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucksafa11info/message/63

If any proof is needed of the terror that is awaiting America hidden behind the lying smiles of the Islamofascists the reader can peruse the messages at the bucksafa11 group sight.

But don't miss message #59.

John Ryan

Report: Treasury Writes Off Billions in TARP Loans, Watchdog Discovers More Fraud

The Blaze | by Becket Adams | Posted on January 27, 2012 at 6:32am

Treasury Writes Off BillionsU.S. taxpayers are still owed nearly $133 billion that companies haven't repaid from the financial bailout, according to a quarterly Special Inspector General Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) report. The report also states that as of December 31, 2011, the Treasury has "written off $4.2 billion and realized losses of $7.8 billion that the taxpayer will never get back," and that it "predicts losses on other TARP investments."

Treasury Writes Off BillionsBut perhaps this shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, some programs were designed as a "Government subsidy with no return to taxpayers," according to the report.

The Kitchen Table Patriots Call on The Pennsylvania State Republican Committee to Support an Open Primary for US Senate.

Doylestown, PA: As the field of solid Republican Pennsylvania Senatorial candidates takes shape, it is imperative that the people speak regarding their personal choices in seeing the one they feel best qualified among the group advance forward as the viable contender.

Given that the Pennsylvania State GOP has in the past picked the candidate they believed best represented the interests of the party, now is the time among grassroots organizations throughout Pennsylvania to call for NO endorsement by the GOP power brokers.

We have a wide range of Senatorial Candidates who are seeking the opportunity to run against Senator Bob Casey in the Fall.

The Kitchen Table Patriots and FreedomWorks are joining a coalition of grassroots groups and calling on other groups throughout Pennsylvania to join with them in this initiative, protesting any move by the State GOP to endorse, proceed, and use their political muscle to move their preferential pick forward.

It is crucial that the people decide through listening to each candidate's message, and formulating their own ideas and beliefs on who can take the State forward and effectively deal with the manifesting problems that temper the Obama Administration.

Lois Kaneshiki of the Blair County Republican Women and the Pennsylvania Precinct Project put it this way, "It is important that the Republican electorate understand how their Primary election has been hijacked before they even cast their vote. Only the Republican rank and file can return the party to republican voters."

Anastasia Przybylski, FreedomWorks PA state Coordinator and Co-Chair of The Kitchen Table Patriots said "I lost faith in the Pennsylvania State Committee when they endorsed Senator Arlen Spector over Pat Toomey in 2004. It was then that I realized the party was out of touch with fiscal conservatives like myself."

We are calling for support among other grassroots organizations to take this message to the State GOP especially since this practice has gone out of favor and is out of touch with 21th century multimedia and internet powered elections and a far more informed and engaged electorate.

A Press Conference will be held on

January 28th at 1030am

The Hershey Lodge

325 University Dr., Hershey PA 17033

Obama's Mis-State-ments of the Union

President Obama's State of the Union Address on Tuesday night was full of misstatements, half-truths and outright lies. Not surprisingly, the liberal media haven't exposed Obama's deceit. But even Republicans haven't done enough to set the record straight. So we made a short video highlighting a few of the most egregious distortions from Tuesday night.

Please watch it and share it with your friends, family members and colleagues. We cannot let the lies go unexposed. So let's all do our part to make sure the truth is heard. Thank you, my friends!

Hey All,

Please spread the word on this panel discussion and consider attending.  As per earlier emails, implementing an exchange in PA is de-facto acceptance of ObamaCare. Other states have refused to implement the exchanges in keeping with the spirit of total resistance.  Nick Pandelides is leading the fight for our side and is on the panel.

There will be more coming out shortly on next steps that individuals and groups can do lobby Harrisburg and exert public pressure to have Pennsylvania's collaboration with ObamaCare ended.  You can follow developments on the following facebook page

THE ISSUE:  The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act mandates that small businesses and individuals must purchase health insurance and obtain government insurance subsidies through state-based federally regulated health insurance exchanges beginning in 2014.  States which do not design and administer federally compliant exchanges will default to a federal system.  A recent PA Insurance Department announcement that a state-based exchange will be created in PA has generated controversy.  Supporters say an exchange designed and administered in PA will serve Pennsylvanians better than one controlled by the federal government.   Opponents say it is inconsistent for the Commonwealth to institute provisions of the PPACA while engaged in the constitutional challenge against the law.  Our experts will present both sides and answer questions to help YOU decide.

The Lehigh Valley COALITION for Health Care Reform is a non-profit, non-partisan grassroots coalition of concerned citizens and health care professionals committed to educating the public about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and other measures and policies impacting America's health.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

The 2012 Presidential Voter Guide

The first contests in the race for the Republican nomination are just around the corner. To better inform you, we looked beyond the rhetoric to the candidates' actual records on the issues important to families.

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID

"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere.
My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why?

Louis:
Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934).
The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward.
I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered.
Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters.

Voter Cheating

You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian.
Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.

Background

There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:

a)     12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934

Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand.
I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...

b)     Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID

"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well.
"It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."

c)      Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)

Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh)
"Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918.
"Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

d)     Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler:  No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)

"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens.
"I can vote twenty-two times.
"You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? (Although, in fairness, dead people should only be able to vote once).

e)     11/7/2011, PA ACORN Lives

"Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include:
* Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate)
* Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman)
* Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in
ACORN's 2005 annual report)
* Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with
Justice)
* Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA)
* Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA)
* Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson)
Action United is located  at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org.

There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project.
There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor.
Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's:
"The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/
There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs:

"Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night.
"The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29...
A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement.
"He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..."
http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/

What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"?
Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November.
On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things.
The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

Thoughts On The SOTU from Clark Judge
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt

From Clark Judge:

SOTU: Did I hear that right? By Clark S. Judge: managing director, White House Writers Group, Inc.; chairman, Pacific Research Institute.
It sounded like such a soft, even conservative speech.

But let me get this straight: 1) banks will be punished (do I understand this right, by a committee headed by Eric Holder?) if their lending is too risky, 2) and they will be required (by the same committee) to give more home loans (meaning, it must be, to people who would otherwise not qualify for the loans, or else the government would not have to be involved) at lower rates (which means rates that do not compensate them as much as the market says they need to be compensated for the risks they are taking, all of which sounds like a new edition of the policies that brought on the financial collapse), 3) which must mean that they will have to pull back on risky lending someplace other than homes, 4) the only place that most banks would be able to pull back on riskier customers would be loans to small and new businesses, 5) but these are the businesses that have created just about all the jobs over the last 20 years and he said early in the speech he wants to encourage them, 6) so maybe their growth capital will come from selling stock to the kinds of people who invest in new and small businesses, 7) but through the Buffet Rule he's going to double the tax rate on investment income for those people, meaning that, like the banks, they can't be fully compensated for the risk of backing small and new businesses, 8) so they will not invest more in small and new companies but in big established firms, 9) so more of those small and new firms will have to turn to the government for capital, 10) which luckily he said would up its investing in early stage businesses with "the best" ideas, 11) "the best" ideas meaning, I guess, as with Solyndra, ideas that advance his agenda through companies whose owners support his candidacy), 11) or maybe it would be companies that agree to invite unionization (since the unions have failed to organize the new and dynamic sectors of the economy, which is why they have been shrinking), 12) but then with the big businesses, he wants to punish American companies if they invest overseas, 13) and he wants to increase exports, 14) but being competitive in the global markets often means having part of your production near your markets, which is why many companies have opened production facilities abroad and many foreign companies (BMW and Honda, for example) have opened their facilities here, 15) so he'll make these companies less competitive, meaning less able to export anything that might be paired with some other product the company makes abroad in order to attract buyers, 16) and it also means he'll have the U.S. ignoring many of the international trading rules of which we have been the principal sponsor since the end of WWII, rules that have led to an incredible growth in widely shared wealth all over the planet, 17) which means that, if he follows through, he'll blow up the post-WWII global economic system, 18) which in the very short run may help the uncompetitive American labor unions but in the not-so-long run would devastate every economy on earth, 19) but it would also mean he would be in a position to decide where big companies could invest, and when, just as he'll be in control of all new and small businesses, too, 20) meanwhile he is going to tell states and localities what their budget priorities should be, 21) and make them adopt his policies for running their schools, leaving me to wonder, when he's through, what won't he control?

I believe that's what I heard the president advocate last night.  But one term I didn't hear, maybe I missed it: "The Constitution."  Then again, wasn't he suggesting that, in brave times like these, we need to put aside those old rules.  Do I have this straight?

Letter from State Committee Members, Allegheny County, Jim and Sue Means

To Endorse or Not to Endorse; Is that the Question?

On January 28th, 2012 the Pennsylvania's Republican State Committee will convene in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for their annual winter meeting.

One of the questions placed before the members will be whether or not to endorse candidates? Hopefully, committee members will carefully weigh the advantages and disadvantages of endorsing.

Common reasons given by Pennsylvania Republican State Committee members who support the endorsement process are:

  •
  •           "It is our job as a committee person."
  •          "We are vetting the candidates."
  •          "The voters won't know who to vote for if we don't endorse."
  •          "Some financial backers will only donate to the endorsed candidates."

Candidates who win the endorsement benefit by being able to claim that they are the "endorsed candidate" of the Republican Party.  They also benefit by gaining access to party resources such as data, professional advice and financial support.  While this is a tremendous advantage to the candidate, endorsement is not what is best for the Republican Party and the election process.

Candidates who fail to win endorsement are often, if not customarily, shunned by party leadership.  A case in point is the February 23, 2011 memorandum from the Republican Party of Pennsylvania which was sent to county chairs regarding county party cooperation for endorsed candidates which stated: "...As a partner in this process, the State Party counts on our county committees to assist our endorsed ticket in every way possible.... As members of the PA GOP and leaders in of county party, we request that you strictly enforce the following longstanding traditions.

  •
  •          Only candidates endorsed by the PA GOP should be recognized and/or allowed to speak at official events such as county dinners, endorsement meetings, candidate forums, etc.  Endorsed candidates and staff should be able to attend gatherings as complimentary guests. (NOTE contradiction between points 1 and 2.)
  •          All candidates for statewide office that attend a Republican Party function in your county should be given time to speak - if only for a brief period of time.
  •          County Chairs, county party staff and county party members should only be circulating petitions for statewide candidates who have been endorsed by the PA GOP.
  •          County Chairs, county party staff and county party members should only be distributing materials for candidates that   have been endorsed by the PA GOP.
  •          County Chairs should decline any promotion materials from non-endorsed candidates."
  •

Such tactics nullify the concept of a free and open primary.  Furthermore, candidates who remain in the election after failing to receive endorsement are often the subject of attack ads funded by the Republican Party which are far more damaging than attacks by an opponent. This is an official denunciation by the Republican Party which should be supporting a field of qualified candidates.  Such attacks against candidates damage their chances of winning in the general election and may also damage them in future elections.  Wasn't Ronald Reagan's eleventh commandment, "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican"?

Only three states endorse candidates before the primary: Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.  One member of Pennsylvania's State committee recently interviewed political directors, state party liaisons and executive staff in other states. She inquired why their state party chose not to endorse before the primary. Some of their responses are:

  •
  •          "We want to show unity at the state level."
  •          "It is important that we maintain a level of trust and respect with the leadership, the rest of the party and the voters."
  •          "Endorsement angers the grassroots people and we want them to be involved."
  •          "If the endorsed candidate doesn't win the election, it looks bad for the leadership and hurts the party."
  •          "We want to be able to support all Republicans that run for office.....when you endorse, you run the risk of turning good people away."
  •          "It just isn't the right thing to do.....not the principled thing to do. The people should be able to decide, not the party. Most of the time the party leaders just pick their friends and that is not letting the people decide."
  •

The disadvantages of the endorsement process far outweigh the benefits. Committee members are guardians of a sacred trust; elected by the citizens of their senatorial district to facilitate the political process, and to assist qualified Republican candidates, not to narrow the playing field.  Endorsements before the primary divide the party and waste precious resources. The purpose of the primary is to allow the voters to decide which candidate is worthy of running in the general election. By trying to narrow the primary contests to single candidates, the Pennsylvania GOP is subverting the primary process. Controlled endorsements before the primary: clip the wings of fellow Republicans; frustrate the electorate; divide the party; waste precious resources; and undermine our conservative principles of equality and freedom.  This is not a game; the stakes are high.

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For January 27, 2012

1. The Jacksonville Brawl

I'm biased, but I think the real winner last night was CNN and I feel confident I'd say that even if they didn't send me a paycheck. After that disastrous and embarrassing NBC debate, Wolf Blitzer held his own, did not get devoured by Newt Gingrich, and engaged in a lot of substance without a lot of random questions like . . . oh . . . say . . . should states ban birth control.

Let me tell you first who lost the debate because it was in a moment with Wolf Blitzer. There was a moment he asked Newt Gingrich about Romney's tax returns and Newt tried to say the question was inconsequential. He tied his napkin around his neck, pulled up his fork and knife, and was just about to sink his teeth into Wolf when Wolf pushed again. The crowd heckled Blitzer. Gingrich drooled over the moderator he was about to consume. "Wanna try again," he asked mischievously. Wolf Blitzer, instead of hopping on Newt's plate pushed once more, pointing out Gingrich had, just this week, attacked Romney on these things. The crowd reacted a bit and Gingrich suddenly tried to get everyone on stage to call a truce. Romney had none of it, instead calling on Gingrich to, in effect, man up and say to Mitt's face the things he says elsewhere.

The crowd turned on Newt. They laughed. They jeered. Blitzer, saved from the jowls of moderator eater, went straight in to a tax question based on Romney's taxes and Newt's tax plan with Newt still on defense from the prior question. The moderator ate Newt. Live by the debate, die by the debate, and Newt Gingrich died in some clever rhetoric, losing the crowd both in that instance and on Mitt Romney's stock ownership.

Mitt Romney won the debate.

2. And We Should Hate Newt Gingrich for This?

All the members of the Republican Party who have been complicit and collaborative in the destruction of our nation in the past few decades always talking about smaller government while never fighting against the tide of creeping socialism have now come out against Newt Gingrich.

Yesterday, at National Review, Elliot Abrams attacked Newt Gingrich for attacking Ronald Reagan from the right.

Today, it is Bob Dole's turn.

3. Romney's Big Healthcare Lie

Almost a full year into the presidential campaign, Romney finally received a full-fledged beatdown for his mendacity over healthcare. He has the nerve to feign outrage over Obamacare, even while he touts Romneycare - a carbon copy of Obamacare - as a virtuous success, supported by 90% of Massachusetts residents. Santorum did his homework, and called him out on the hypocrisy. Romney was never able to answer why the same market intervention and distortions - mandates, subsidies, and Medicaid - which form the bedrock of Obamacare , supposedly worked so well in Massachusetts. The reason he couldn't answer the question is because Romneycare was a complete failure. It is the canary in the coal mine for Obamacare.

4. NLRB To Force Companies To Turn Over Employee Telephone Numbers & E-Mail Addresses To Unions?

Undaunted by the constitutionally-questionable appointment of three members to Barack Obama's National Labor Relations Board, union attorney and current NLRB chairman Mark Pearce declared in an Associated Press interview that he and his union comrades are continuing their assault on the 93% of private-sector employees who are union-free.

In fact, if Obama's union appointees have their way, all employees who are targeted for unionization will have their employers forced to turn over their home telephone number and e-mail addresses to unions.

Ever since the 1960s, when unions have targeted companies for unionization through a NLRB-supervised election, employers have been required to turn over the list of employee names and their home addresses. The NLRB, in turn, promptly gives the list of employee names and home addresses to the involved union(s).

5. Ener1 and Barack Obama: If You Own Masterlock Stock, Sell

In 2010, Barack Obama touted Solyndra's solar panels in his State of the Union speech. We know what happened to Solyndra.

In this week's State of the Union, Barack Obama touted Ener1?s electric car batteries. Today, Ener1 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Also in Barack Obama's State of the Union this week, he touted Masterlock and the high productivity of its unionized workforce.

Given the odds, if you own stock in Masterlock, you might want to sell.

"I've got the brains, you've got the looks-let's make lots of money," from the Pet Shop Boys' song "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)." Then ask why liberals can't understand basic economic principles like the division of labor, Ricardo's theory of comparative advantage, and Adam Smith's paean to free trade in The Wealth of Nations when they're simple enough to be summed up in one line of a dumb 1980s dance hit.

'It's Jewish money, stupid'

By Ruthie Blum, ISRAEL HAYOM

Last week, on Jan. 19, U.S. President Barack Obama released a video called "America and Israel: An Unbreakable Bond."

The seven-minute clip is an amalgamation of sound bites from the president's own speeches, interspersed with statements made by different prominent Israeli leaders, among them Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Its apparent purpose is to refute claims on the part of the Republicans that the Obama administration is anti-Israel. Its true goal is to keep the president's campaign afloat with Jewish cash.

To achieve this objective, the video features the voices of President Shimon Peres, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, and Netanyahu himself waxing poetic about Obama.  (Read more...)

Christianity in the Middle East Must Be Safeguarded

By Dexter Van Zile Dexter Van Zile, Algemeiner

It's time for journalists, human rights activists and church leaders in the U.S. to confront the prospect of Christianity's destruction in the region of its birth.

That's the message that came out of a one-day conference that took place in Framingham, Massachusetts on Jan. 21, 2012. The conference, titled The Persecuted church: Christian Believers in Peril in the Middle East was sponsored by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2012.  (Read more...)

Is The NYT's Agenda to Normalize Islam in the West?

There is no nuance, no balance, no justice in the plethora of anti-Israel pieces in the NYT. But there is another agenda as well - normalizing Islam, especially in North America and Europe. See the evidence below.
By Prof. Phyllis Chesler, INN

On a single day, the New York Times has been known to publish anywhere from two to six anti-Israel articles, editorials, op-ed pieces, and letters. Today, I see a new danger arising in their pages.

After spending a year proclaiming the triumph of democracy and the miracle of the Arab Spring and, as PM Netanyahu has just noted, refusing to document the existential danger in which Israel finds herself, the Newspaper of Record has now begun the process of normalizing Islam in North America and Europe. Its pro-Muslim "multicultural" agenda is, paradoxically, another form of racism, but I quibble.  (Read more...)

MK Eldad: Present Alternatives to PA State Plan

INN
MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) spoke to US Ambassador Dan Shapiro during his meeting with the Knesset Security and Foreign Affairs Committee.

"The '2 States for 2 Nations' plan has reached a dead end. Washington should come up with an alternative plan, taking into account to possibility of the end of the Jordanian Hashemite Kingdom, at which point Jordan will become the Palestinian Homeland."

In case you are wondering MK Eldad is referring to Zahran's Idea that I have been promoting.

The bastards are coming again to attacks us.

The Meir Amit, Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center

The networks waging the campaign to delegitimize Israel are planning a series of propaganda displays for 2012, some of them in the upcoming months. They intend to hold marches (promoted by Hamas), a protest fly-in to Ben-Gurion International Airport, a flotilla and propaganda events for the "Israeli apartheid week."

Overview

1. After the campaign to delegitimize Israel had been waged successfully for two years (e.g., the Goldstone Report in 2009 and the Mavi Marmara flotilla in 2010), in 2011 Israel managed to contain it. Despite the intensive activities made by the networks involved in the campaign, their propaganda events (flotillas, a fly-in, the BDS1 campaign, lawfare, etc.) were either failures or did not meet their full expectations.

2. An examination of the websites and public statements of individuals connected to the networks participating in the campaign reveals that despite their failure, they are still planning to challenge Israel, and to that end hold meetings to analyze the situation, learn the lessons of past failures and coordinate their next moves. The networks are aware that the campaign cannot be won in one battle, and therefore, they plan to make propaganda capital with a series of tactical events with high potential for media coverage.

US leads Security Council charge against Israel

Israel Matzav

US ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice forgot on Tuesday that there's an election in nine and a half months and led the charge against Israel in the UN Security Council. This is a preview to what things will look like if God forbid Obama is reelected, and it had a lot in common with a vacuum cleaner, with Tom Brady's performance in the AFC Championship game and with Kevin Paul DuPont. This is from the first link.

During a Security Council session, US Ambassador Susan Rice urged Israel to halt all settlement construction in the West Bank and work to quell settler violence against Palestinians. She also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Obama Speech Makes Pitch for Economic Fairness

OBAMA WANTS TO RUN ON SOCIALISM V CAPITALISM RATHER THAN ON HIS RECORD. TED BELMAN

NEW YORK TIMES
WASHINGTON - President Obama pledged on Tuesday night to use government power to balance the scale between America's rich and the rest of the public, trying to present an election-year choice between continued leadership toward an economy "built to last" and what he called irresponsible policies of the past that caused an economic collapse.

Declaring that "we've come too far to turn back now," the president used his final State of the Union address before he faces the voters to showcase the extent to which he will try to contrast his core economic principles with those of his Republican rivals in a time of deep economic uncertainty. While many Americans remain disappointed with the state of the economy and the president's handling of it, Mr. Obama nonetheless tried to bring into relief the difference between where the country was when he took over and where it is now.

President Obama delivered a State of the Union address Tuesday night that by the account of his own advisers is more campaign document than a plan for governing. He's running against Republicans in Congress, Reaganomics, wealthy bankers and inequality.

Normally a President at the start of his fourth year would be running on his record, accentuating the legislation he's passed. Mr. Obama can't do that with any specificity because the economic recovery has been so weak and the legislation he has passed is so unpopular. So last night he took credit for the shale gas revolution he had nothing to do with and proposed new policies to "spread the wealth around," as he famously told Joe the Plumber in 2008 before he took the words back. We thought he meant it then, and now he's admitting it.

The New Hypocriritcal Stance of of Mahmoud Abbas

by Khaled Abu Toameh,STONEGATE INSTITUTE

The Palestinian Authority has expressed outrage over the arrest of Hamas officials in the West Bank by the Israel Defense Forces - even though the Palestinian Authority itself has also been arresting Hamas supporters in the West Bank.

The Palestinian Authority claims that the Israeli arrests are aimed at sabotaging the "reconciliation" process between Fatah and Hamas. But the truth is that the Israeli clampdown on Hamas in the West Bank is first and foremost designed to help Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

The Palestinian Authority is fighting Hamas in the West Bank because it fears that the Islamist movement is working to undermine Abbas and Fayyad. Israel is fighting Hamas to prevent terror attacks and stop the movement from toppling the Palestinian Authority.

The Palestinians are doing their best to derail peace talks with Israel

What Coughlin misses is that the Palestinians are also Islamists and also want to remove Israel from the ME. Ted Belman

Con Coughlin, TELEGRAPH
While the world's attention is fixed on the deepening drama of Iran's nuclear programme and the continuing fall-out from the wave of anti-government protests in the Arab world (I still refuse to countenance the concept of an Arab Spring), it is hardly surprising that attempts to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace dialogue are generating many headlines.

And yet this crucial issue is quietly reaching its own crisis point as the two sides approach the January 26 deadline set by the Quartet - the US, EU, UN and Russia - for the resumption of direct negotiations, with the aim of reaching a final settlement by the end of the year.

What influence did it have on Obama?

Saul Alinsky

- Identified a set of very specific rules that ordinary citizens could follow, and tactics that ordinary citizens could employ, as a means of gaining public power

The War Inside Islam

by AMB. (Ret) YORAM ETTINGER

At the outset of 2012, irrespective of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian issue, the defining geopolitical and religious schism in the Middle East is boiling, exacerbating violent intra-Muslim fragmentation. The battle inside Islam is taking place on the religious, tribal, ideological and geographical levels.

The Syrian death toll is approaching 7,000, trending toward Papa Assad's 1982 massacre of 20,000 Sunni rebels. The Turkish-Kurdish confrontation has shifted to a higher gear, exceeding 40,000 casualties since 1984. During the first week of January, a series of sectarian-driven bombings devastated Baghdad and Nasiriyah in Iraq, murdering more than 140 people. More were killed in the Sunni stronghold of Mosul. Car bombs, suicide bombings and improvised explosive devices have become daily routine in Iraq, whose Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is a Shiah Arab, President Jalal Talabani is a Sunni Kurd and Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi is a Sunni Arab. Iraq has become an explosive platform for its vindictive Shiah Arab majority (60 percent), which has been dominated and oppressed by the Sunni Arab minority (20%) since the seventeenth century. The historic conflict between Iraq's Arabs and its 15% Kurdish minority &nd ash; which claims independence in northern Iraq, where it also confronts the Turkish military - further complicates matters.

The Protocols of the Elders of Ron Paul (Update: Screen Shot Added)

It's not just the newsletters of years ago. According to Adam Taxin of the NY Jewish Examiner, Paul's website has been publicizing and distributing the infamous anti-Semitic forgery The Protocols of the Meetings of the Elders of Zion for the last three years!

Writes Taxin:

The website for "Campaign for Liberty", an organization started by "Republican" anti-Israel Presidential candidate Ron Paul, has, since late 2008, been featuring a page offering the opportunity to purchase the notorious forged anti-Semitic book The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.

As word spreads of this, inevitably Paul's campaign will take down the page and claim the situation was a mere innocent mistake with which Paul (who of course hopes to lend his managerial skills to the entire nation) had nothing to do, a la the controversy over his newsletters in the 1990s. This of course despite the fact that the page with the link has now been up for over three years.

Indeed the web pages involved have now been taken down. The links, available from Taxin's article, now read: "This blog entry doesn't exist. Perhaps it once did, and was un-published or deleted, or maybe it's just an invalid entry ID..." Maybe, maybe not. Unfortunately, Taxin has the screen grab with all the creepy ravings of one who calls himself "Free American." The web is written in indelible ink, as we know.

Americans Rise in Rank Inside Somalia Jihadi Group   http://kstp.com/news/stories/s2452252.shtml?cat=1target     By: Jennie Olson

The October al-Qaida video shows a light-skinned man handing out food to families displaced by famine in Somalia. But the masked man is not Somali, or even African - he's a Wisconsin native who grew up in San Diego.

A handful of young Muslims from the U.S. are taking high-visibility propaganda and operational roles inside an al-Qaida-linked insurgent force in Somalia known as al-Shabab. While most are from Minnesota, which has the largest Somali population in the nation, al-Shabab members include a Californian and an Alabaman with no ancestral ties to Somalia.

"They are being deployed in roles that appear to be shrewdly calculated to raise al-Shabab's international profile and to recruit others, especially those from the United States and other English-speaking countries," said Anders Folk, a former assistant U.S. attorney who prosecuted suspected al-Shabab supporters in Minnesota.

Officials fear another terrorist attack in East Africa. Kenya announced on Jan. 7 that it had thwarted attempted al-Shabab attacks over the holidays. The same day, Britain's Foreign Office urged Britons in Kenya to be extra vigilant, warning that terrorists there may be "in the final stages of planning attacks."

More than 40 people have traveled from the U.S. to Somalia to join al-Shabab since 2007, and 15 of them have died, according to a report from the House Homeland Security Committee. Federal investigations into al-Shabab recruitment in the U.S. have centered on Minnesota, which has more than 32,000 Somalis.

At least 21 men have left Minnesota to join al-Shabab in that same time. The FBI has confirmed that at least two of them died in Somalia as suicide bombers. A U.S. citizen is suspected in a third suicide bombing, and another is under investigation in connection with a fourth bombing on Oct. 29 that killed 15 people.

The star of the al-Qaida video was Jehad Mostafa, 30, a Californian who handed out food using the name Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir, according to the SITE Monitoring Service. The Washington Post reported last year that Mostafa served as top lieutenant to Saleh Nabhan, a senior al-Qaida operative killed by Navy SEALs in a helicopter attack inside Somalia in 2010.

Mostafa and the Alabaman, Omar Hammami, 27, are among about a dozen men who have been charged in federal court in the U.S. and are believed to be in Somalia.

The Americans appear to have been motivated by the Ethiopian army's intervention in Somalia in 2006, which they saw as an invasion. However, many experts believe it's only a matter of time before al-Shabab turns its wrath on the U.S., which in February 2008 designated it as a terrorist organization. The group killed 76 people in terrorist bombings in Uganda in 2010 during the World Cup final.

U.S. military commanders fear that Americans inside al-Shabab could train as bombmakers and use their U.S. passports to carry out attacks in the United States.

E.K. Wilson, the agent overseeing the FBI's investigation in Minneapolis, said he cannot comment on whether there is an outstanding order to capture or kill Americans fighting for al-Shabab. The FBI has publicly said the Americans should return to the U.S.

It's a mystery what caused Mostafa, a young man whom many remember as mild and friendly, to join an extremist group.

Mostafa grew up in San Diego and graduated from the University of California San Diego. Imam Abdeljalil Mezgouri of the Islamic Center of San Diego, the city's largest mosque, said Mostafa was a respectful teen and good student.

"He was a very quiet, very loving boy. He didn't talk too much but when he did talk, people liked him," said Mezgouri.

Mezgouri said Mostafa got married in his early 20s to a woman he believed was from Somalia.

Public records show Mostafa was the president of the now-defunct Muslim Youth Council of San Diego, or MYCSD. The former organization's Web site says the group was "dedicated to showing the world that Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims are a peaceful and productive part of society."

Mostafa's father, Halim Mostafa, a Kurdish Syrian, is a prominent figure in San Diego's Muslim community who has tried to build bridges with non-Muslims. He made a low-budget film released in 2008 called "Mozlym" to show how the true meaning of Islam is often lost amid the misconceptions of non-Muslims in America, according to the film's Web site.

Mostafa's father declined to talk.

"I just don't want to get involved. I'm really sorry I cannot say anything. God bless you," he said.

Edgar Hopida, a spokesman for the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Halim Mostafa believes in the most liberal interpretation of Islam and noted that "it's ironic if his son is involved with al-Shabab."

Mostafa is believed to have met American militant Anwar al-Awlaki about a decade ago at a San Diego mosque, according to The Washington Post. He went to Somalia in 2005. Federal officials declined to comment.

Mostafa was indicted in August 2010 on terrorism charges sts 43 Christian churches and not a single Islamic congregation in Daphne.

The son of a Christian mother and a Syrian-born Muslim father, Hammami attended Daphne High School. Then-assistant principal Don Blanchard recalls Hammami as generally well liked.

"Omar I would not classify as a troubled kid," said Blanchard.

Hammami enrolled at the University of South Alabama, where he was president of the Muslim Student Association. Following the 2001 terror attacks, Hammami spoke to the student newspaper.

"Even now it's difficult to believe a Muslim could have done this," The Vanguard quoted Hammami as saying.

Hammami went to Somalia in 2006. He was indicted in 2007 on terrorism charges, and faced more charges in 2009 for providing material support to terrorists.

Hammami, who wears a long beard and often raps in al-Shabab videos, released a nearly 50 minute lecture in October to commemorate five years with the group. He spouts hatred for "Western oppression." In the video, provided to AP by the IntelCenter, he compares his upbringing in America with his life in Somalia, where he says a microwave - "or even a normal oven" - is a rarity.

The English speaker serves as a recruiter and fund-raiser and is one of the top people in charge of al-Shabab's foreign fighters, Kohlmann said.

Hammami attends morning fighting drills and motivates new recruits, former al-Shabab fighter Abdi Hassan told AP. Hammami avoids mobile phones for fear intelligence agencies will trace him, and uses pseudonyms on the Internet.

"He sometimes cries with emotion, which makes others cry with him," said Hassan. He added, "Every new American is asked to convince his friends to come. The Americans' suicide attacks and speeches are meant to attract other Americans."

State of Disunion

We know that the state of the union is good no matter how many Americans are out of work, how many families are counting every penny, how many industries are falling off a cliff and how high the national debt gets. We know it's good so long as another politician takes a victory lap up to the podium and tells us that it's all good because he's here.

Iraq? Nothing to worry about. We just brought all the troops home. Sure it's breaking up into a civil war, but you won't hear about it on the news. Osama bin Laden is no longer a threat, but his allies have taken over Egypt and Tunisia, and are moving on Libya. The Taliban's momentum has been broken and they are on the verge of taking over the government which means they will finally have been defeated. These achievements are a testament to a military which is facing the biggest budget cuts in decades.

The American soldier is a role model to us. I take away his weapons, fire him, put him on trial and force him to marry his bunkmate to show his tolerance, and he never complains because he's not allowed to. The rest of you need to take a lesson from him. Stop complaining or I'll send you to a military tribunal.

Now it's time for an applause break. We need to spend more money funding college degrees and political indoctrination for everyone. More applause. Only by creating more unemployed people with six figure student debts working at McD's will we be able to restore the post WW2 economy that was built on manufacturing jobs which my administration is working hard to completely eliminate.

More applause? No you shouldn't have. And I didn't get you anything but a monopoly for my buddy Warren Buffett's rail line. Sure it cost a 100,000 American jobs, but who needs them anyway. We need to keep the promise alive and fight the rich whose irresponsible investing tanked this economy. And the only way we can do that is by going deep into debt with irresponsible investments. That's why we've put new rules in place to hold Wall Street accountable in case they ever borrow more money than they can pay back and we've also put new rules into place so the government can borrow as much money as it wants.

The economy is great right now. There are millions of jobs everywhere, even if you can't see them because they're invisible jobs. They only come out at night and during State of the Union addresses. In the last 5 minutes over 3 billion jobs have been created. The auto industry used to be on the verge of collapse. It's still on the verge of collapse but now it's being subsidized by taxpayers. Now the auto industry is too big to fail, no matter how many Volts it makes and how few people buy them. And just wait till you see the GM Lada that uses Soviet manufacturing processes to create a car that only works one day a month and runs entirely on hot air. Just like me.

Want to go decades back to attack Gingrich? Take a look at this about George and Willard Romney

Jan 26, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

As Governor of Michigan original rino heard elder George Romney met with Saul Alinsky and found him to be someone the country "ought to listen to."

The progressive Republican father of the liberal Republican Willard Romney actually acknowledged that Alinsky had a "Strong influence" on his son according to "Romney's Way" a 1968 book by T. George Harris.  This certainly goes a long way toward explaining how a "conservative" Republican like the younger Romney could not only concoct Romney Care. It sheds light on Willard Romney's Alinsky-like deviousness in destroying all hard drive evidence that would expose the deliberations that went into Romney care's completion.

By Harris' account George Romney and Saul Alinsky were close enough for Alinsky to offer Romney advice on handling Detroit's Black population after the Motor City riot of  1967.

It is an established fact that dutiful son Willard is devoted to living his life and governing in a ... Continue Reading:Want to go decades back to attack Gingrich? Take a look at this about George and Willard Romney

By Bill Federer, staff writer

In his State of the Union Address, JANUARY 25, 1984, President Reagan stated: "Each day your members observe a 200-year-old tradition meant to signify America is one nation under God. I must ask: If you can begin your day with a member of the clergy standing right here leading you in prayer, then why can't freedom to acknowledge God be enjoyed again by children in every school room across this land?" A month later in a radio address, February 25, 1984, President Reagan stated: "The First Amendment of the Constitution was not written to protect the people from religion; that amendment was written to protect religion from government tyranny...But now we're told our children have no right to pray in school. Nonsense. The pendulum has swung too far toward intolerance against genuine religious freedom. It is time to redress the balance." Newt is earning my support

Jan 25, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Ron Reale, staff writer

I'm going to say something that makes me question my own ethical and moral foundation.

Eighty four ethics complaints were lodged against Newt Gingrich. 83 were dismissed, and the 84th, for which he paid a fine and admitted doing, the IRS later, (3 years later), ruled he wasn't  guilty of .

And, if he had been guilty of some personal ethical lapse, or had defied some red tape to get a good-for-America agenda passed, I don't care.

There, I Said It!

Did Newt Gingrich lead a conservative attack, help take Congress away from the Dems for the first time in 40 years, and work on numerous policies within that Congress to pass legislation that helped America?

Did Newt Gingrich pay the price for his success and his big mouth? What is it about Newt Gingrich that creates such a "love-hate" relationship with both his peers and the voters? Is ... Continue Reading:Newt is earning my support

Alexander's Essay - January 26, 2012

Obama's State of Disunion

AKA, 'State of the Campaign'

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." --Article II, Section 1, Constitution of the United States

On Tuesday, Barack Hussein Obama recited what I hope will be his last tele-prompted State of the Union address. In attendance was a room half full of his Leftist sycophants, inebriated on their lust for power and hanging on every word from their "dear leader."

As anticipated by all parties present, there was not one solitary free market economic remedy mentioned in his entire diatribe. Every "solution" was predicated on government engineering via intervention, regulation or redistribution -- consistent with his dogmatic Democratic Socialist ideology. Predictably, he peppered his prose with populist appeals and classist rhetoric focused on "fairness."

BO's classist message was contradicted by his wife's iridescent cobalt blue dress. I'm told it came from the Barbara Tfank Resort Collection, but at $2,400, I doubt Michelle picked it up on one of those photo-op trips to Target. The two Obamas act like trailer trash who won the lucky lotto in 2008, and they've now elevated their station to the bourgeoisie.

What follows are two assessments of Obama's SOTU, one brief and the other more comprehensive.

The short version: "I went ... I know ... My ... My ... I took office ... I'm president ... I will work ... I intend ... I will oppose ... I want ... I took ... I refused ... me ... my ... my ... me ... I will sign ... I set ... I will go ... I will not ... I promise ... I hear ... I want ... me ... My ... I want ... I am ... I spoke ... me ... I believe ... my ... I took ... me ... I will sign ... my ... my ... my ... I will not ... I will not walk ... I will not cede ... I will ... I'm directing ... my ... I will sign ... I've ... my ... my ... I've ... I guess ... I will not ... I will ... I will not ... I will ... my ... I told ... my ...me ... my ... I get ... I don't ... I recognize ... I bet ... I've ... me ... I will ... I ask ... I've ... me ... I believe ... my ... my ... I can ... I have ... I will take ... I mean ... I intend ... I've ... I've ... I've ... me ... I began ... my ... I sat ... me for president ... me ... I look ... I'm (Applause.)"

Amazingly, there wasn't a single "uh" in the entire speech, which is to say that he gave the Obamaprompter his undivided attention -- except for his failed attempt to appear unscripted with that strange "spilt milk" bit.

Post Your Opinion: What were your thoughts about the SOTU?

And now, for a rebuttal analysis, I've excerpted key points from Obama's comments with parenthetical remarks for proper context.

"Think about the America within our reach. (Think quickly, because it's disappearing before our eyes.) The defining issue of our time is how to keep that promise alive. (Indeed it is!) An [America] where everyone gets a fair shot, and everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules. (By "fair share," Obama means that it is not fair for Americans who pay no taxes to bear the burden of all those who do pay taxes. And, by whose "set of rules"?) What's at stake aren't Democratic values or Republican values, but American values. (Correct.)"

"Let's remember how we got here. In 2008, the house of cards collapsed. (It's still Bush's fault) ... It was wrong. It was irresponsible. It plunged our economy into a crisis that put millions out of work, saddled us with more debt, and left innocent, hardworking Americans holding the bag. (And he rode that collapse into office.)"

Obama devoted a significant part of his speech to blame-shifting, particularly suggesting that the near-economic collapse in 2008 was precipitated by the "irresponsible" private sector, which was solely accountable for all the problems that plague both our economy and his re-election bid.

In fact, the collapse was largely attributable to government interference in the free market -- specifically Democrat manipulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lending practices, which spread across the entire mortgage banking industry -- leading to a real estate boom and bust, which Obama blames on "my predecessor" and Wall Street.

So, let's "remember how we got here" -- and do a bit of fact-checking along the way. Here is a brief overview of the catalyst that really collapsed "the house of cards."

In 2003, the Bush administration upgraded its concerns about Fannie and Freddie, requesting much stronger oversight. According to testimony by then Treasury Secretary John Snow, "We need a strong, world-class regulatory agency to oversee the prudential operations of the GSEs and the safety and the soundness of their financial activities." The New York Times reported that the administration's plan was "the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago," and "an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken."

But Democrats would not support additional oversight or restrictions. Former House Financial Services Committee chairman Barney Frank declared in congressional hearings: "These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis. The more people exaggerate a threat of safety and soundness, the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury, which I do not see. I think we see entities that are fundamentally sound financially and withstand some of the disaster scenarios. And even if there were a problem, the federal government does not bail them out."

Frank insisted, "I want to roll the dice a little bit more in this situation towards subsidized housing. I believe there has been more alarm raised about potential unsafety [sic] and unsoundness than, in fact, exists."

And roll the dice they did!

In the Senate, Charles Schumer objected to concerns raised by Sen. John McCain, about the solvency of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: "My worry is that we're using the recent safety and soundness concerns ... as a straw man to curtail Fannie and Freddie's mission." The "mission," as amended by Democrats, was to reach out with home loans to millions of marginal or unqualified "customers" -- thus fueling the real estate boom.

In 2004, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan testified: "What we're trying to avert is we have in our financial system right now two very large and growing financial institutions [which subsidize loans and] that prevents the markets from adjusting appropriately, prevents competition and the normal adjustment processes that ... creates stability. ... [By] enabling [Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac] to increase in size ... we are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk. If we fail to strengthen GSE regulation, we increase the possibility of insolvency in crisis."

In 2006, Sen. McCain again went to the Senate floor warning, "The GSEs need to be reformed without delay." However, every Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee voted against regulatory reforms. That year, housing prices peaked and started to reverse.

In 2008, amid eroding consumer confidence, the entire economy began spiraling toward collapse. Even Bill Clinton admitted, "I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress ... to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac."

(For a more comprehensive examination of "how we got here," read "Crisis of Confidence.")

Now, Obama says, "I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place." This is the Big Lie he's been telling ever since he became a failed president. In fact, his policies are all about government intervention and manipulation of the economy.

Returning to excerpts from his SOTU: "There are fewer illegal [border] crossings than when I took office. (There are fewer jobs than when he took office.) Send me a law that gives them the chance to earn their citizenship. I will sign it right away. (That law already exists -- Obama's administration has ignored it.) We have a supply of natural gas that can last America nearly 100 years. (That was in reference to his administration.) Our partnership with the private sector has already positioned America to be... (out of business.) The payoffs on these public investments... (taxpayer-funded union votes.)"

"Take the money we're no longer spending at war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the rest to do some nation-building right here at home. (I think he meant "take the debt we're no longer spending," and for "nation-building here"? more like "nation wrecking." For the record, since the ratification of our Constitution, the 43 presidents that followed added, $4.16 trillion in debt. Since taking office, the 44th president has added more than $4.6 trillion in additional debt.) We'll run out of money. (We already did.) Government can't fix the problem on its own. (Government IS the problem!) We need smart regulations to prevent irresponsible behavior. They make the free market work better. (Yes, a regulated free market.) When it comes to the deficit, we've already agreed to more than $2 trillion in cuts and savings. (Not really.)"

"Now, you can call this class warfare all you want. (OK, it is class warfare.) We don't begrudge financial success in this country. We admire it. (Just drink the Kool-Aid.) I bet most Americans are thinking the same thing right about now. (When will this guy shut up?!) Can you blame them for feeling a little cynical? (Nope.)"

"I've talked tonight about the deficit of trust. (In fact, you increased it exponentially.) I've asked this Congress to grant me the authority to consolidate the federal bureaucracy. (More centralization?) We should all want a smarter, more effective government. (We should all want a smaller more irrelevant government.) America is determined to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and I will take no options off the table to achieve that goal. (Even sitting down for a beer summit?) Working with our military leaders, I've proposed a new defense strategy that ensures we maintain the finest military in the world ... gay or straight. (You knew where that was going, didn't you?)"

Remember when Obama proclaimed he was going to oversee "the fundamental transformation of the United States of America"? Well, he did. "How this incredible transformation will end remains uncertain," he said in his address. "But we have a huge stake in the outcome."

Indeed, we do have a huge stake in the outcome, as does our posterity. Patriots have staked our ground on the the side of Liberty.

Obama concluded, "Anyone who tells you that America is in decline or that our influence has waned doesn't know what they're talking about." Anyone who does not think America is in decline, must be a socialist or profoundly ignorant -- but then I repeat myself.

Post Your Opinion: Is America in decline? If so, how can that be reversed?

(For a thorough breakdown on "how we got here," see the detailed analysis prepared by our colleagues at Heritage Foundation.)

Next election will be either a Sunrise or Sunset on Liberty. From across the nation, American Patriots must rise up, band together and expel through the ballot box Obama's socialist regime. We must replace him with a president who will, first and foremost, abide by his oath to "Support and Defend" our Constitution.

(A footnote about all the Republican intra-party bickering: Obama may well change the dynamics of this election cycle by announcing a new vice presidential running mate in the run-up to the Democrat National Convention in September -- Jon Huntsman comes to mind -- and unity among conservatives, starting right now, is critical to victory.)

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 285 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Buffett's "Poor" Secretary

During his State of the Union address Tuesday night, Barack Obama made several appeals for more redistribution of wealth. At one point he noted how unfair it was that billionaires like Warren Buffett can pay a lower tax rate than their secretaries. In fact, Mr. Buffett's secretary, Debbie Bosanek, was sitting in the First Lady's box during the State of the Union address, serving as a symbol for the lack of fairness in the tax code.

Since Obama and Buffett have made such an issue out of Ms. Bosanek's taxes, repeating over and over again that she pays a higher tax rate, a Forbes columnist hypothesized about just how much Ms. Bosanek might be making. Here is what he discovered:

"The IRS publishes detailed tax tables by income level. The latest results are for 2009. They show that taxpayers earning an adjusted gross income between $100,000 and $200,000 pay an average rate of twelve percent. This is below Buffett's rate; so she must earn more than that. Taxpayers earning adjusted gross incomes of $200,000 to $500,000, pay an average tax rate of nineteen percent. Therefore Buffet must pay Debbie Bosanke a salary above two hundred thousand. ...For all we know she earns closer to a half million each year, but that is pure speculation."

Here are a couple of points to consider. If Ms. Bosanke does in fact make that much, then she could well be one of those "evil one percenters," not exactly a model to point to if you are making a case for redistribution of wealth. But Barack Obama still wants to raise her taxes too!

He has repeatedly called for repealing portions of the Bush tax cuts and limiting deductions for individuals in her tax bracket. For the record, the top 1% of earners already pay approximately 37% of all income taxes collected. And if she doesn't make that much, then both Obama and Buffett are lying when they say she pays a higher rate than Buffett.

But what about Obama's main point -- raising taxes on really rich people like Warren Buffett? According to IRS data, just over 235,000 people reported incomes of $1 million or more on their 2009 tax returns. Combined they earned $727 billion. The federal deficit that year was $1.4 trillion. If you imposed a 100% tax rate on all 235,000 "millionaires and billionaires," it would yield enough revenue to cover just over half of the deficit. Once again, the problem in Washington is not revenue -- it's spending.

Federal Bureaucrats Owe Uncle Sam Billions

Before Barack Obama tries to squeeze billions more out of small business owners and entrepreneurs, he should start by passing the hat at the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, the Post Office and even the Justice Department. According to a new report from the IRS, federal employees owe more than $3.4 billion in back taxes. Here's a brief breakdown:

  • Postal Service employees owe nearly $270 million.
  • Department of Education employees owe $4.3 million.
  • Homeland Security employees owe $37 million.
  • Justice Department employees owe $17 million.
  • Treasury Department employees (which includes the IRS) owe more than $ 9 million.
  • And it was also reported that three dozen members of President Obama's White House staff owe more than $830,000 in back taxes!

Now is that fair? Why are these federal employees being paid with our tax money while they are not paying their taxes? Obama demonizes entrepreneurs, the successful, investors and a bevy of U.S. industries, but I have never heard him say a word about federal employees who aren't paying their taxes.

How Voters View State Of The Union

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, voters are not too happy with the state of our union. Just 26% feel the country is headed in the right direction, while 67% say it is not. Believe it or not, that's actually an improvement. Five months ago, 80% felt America was headed in the wrong direction. Perhaps folks are more optimistic about the future because the end of the Obama nightmare is just 285 days away and getting closer with each passing day!

Tension On The Tarmac

Yesterday Barack Obama flew to Arizona and was met on the tarmac by Governor Jan Brewer. Brewer handed the president an envelope with a handwritten letter inviting him to visit the border with her and talk about how the economy in Arizona is improving. Obama wasn't interested.

Instead, according to CBS News, "What she got was a critique. Of her book." In her book, "Scorpions for Breakfast," Brewer recounts an Oval Office meeting in which she said Obama lectured her about Arizona's tough anti-illegal immigration law. Evidently, Obama was offended by her depiction of the meeting and took the opportunity to relay his displeasure. Surprised by the president's reaction, Brewer asked if Obama had actually read the book. He said he had read excerpts.

It was obvious from their body language that the president and the governor were having a tense exchange. When asked what transpired, Brewer told reporters yesterday, "Bottom line is that he generally wants to talk about amnesty and I want to talk about securing our border." She later added that Obama seemed "thin-skinned." Indeed he is.

Which is exactly why the GOP and the eventual nominee need to confront him relentlessly on policy, lying, disrespect for the Constitution, class warfare, wedge politics and everything else. The more they expose him, the greater the chance that his image of "coolness" and being unflappable will unravel and the public will see a man schooled in Chicago politics and radical ideology.

Government's Proper Role in Creating Jobs: Top Five Actions to Take

By David Addington

Abstract: America needs jobs. A government committed to free enterprise, limited government, and individual freedom, and not to more borrowing and spending, can properly help. To help unleash the private sector to invest and create jobs, Congress should promptly take five specific actions: enact the New Flat Tax, free America's energy resources, grant effective free trade negotiating authority, stop excessive government regulation, and end the artificially high pricing of labor for federal construction projects under the Davis-Bacon Act and government-mandated project labor agreements.

Baron John Maynard Keynes of Tilton, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath and Fellow of the British Academy, died in 1946. Liberal politicians in America have tried to keep alive one of his worst ideas-that the solution to a weak, job-losing economy is a government that borrows more money and then spends it, hoping to create demand for goods and services that might spur investment and create jobs. That idea is now finally passing away, too, as such government spending to "prime the pump" of the economy has proved a dismal and obvious failure.[1] Instead, attention should focus on how to get government obstacles out of the way so that the private sector can invest and create jobs.

Obama Administration Refuses to Protect Religious Liberty

Amidst the many policy prescriptions of last night's speech, President Barack Obama's State of the Union address was notably void of comment on the religious liberty conflicts his own Administration has created.

In yet another assault on religious organizations' freedom, the Obama Administration released a decision Friday afternoon finalizing an Obamacare health insurance mandate that will restrict the religious liberty of employers to act in accordance with their conscience.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius released a finalized version of an Obamacare mandate that will require almost all insurance companies to cover contraceptives and sterilization without cost to the insured starting August 1 of this year. Like the interim version of the rule released this past summer, the final mandate requires coverage of all FDA-approved contraceptives, including controversial drugs like ella and Plan B that can cause abortions in early pregnancies.

Employers with deep religious and moral objections to subsidizing coverage for such services are left largely unprotected by the mandate's offensively narrow religious exemption. Indeed, the exemption covers only organizations whose primary duty is to "inculcate religious belief"-effectively excluding religious employers such as schools, hospitals, and social service organizations.

Outcry from religiously affiliated employers, including two lawsuits against HHS over the lack of protection for religious freedom, had bolstered hopes that the Obama Administration would change the mandate or at least broaden its religious exemption.

Those hopes failed last week as Secretary Sebelius announced the Administration would not provide robust protection of religious liberty but would give employers with religious objections an additional 12 months for "more time and flexibility to adapt to the new rule." Apparently, according to the Secretary's reasoning, dilemmas of conscience are easily dismissed when merely given enough "time and flexibility."

However, as Hannah Smith, legal counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, has pointed out, "Religious colleges, universities, and hospitals will never pay for abortion drugs in violation of their religious beliefs-this year or any other year." The Becket Fund is leading litigation in two lawsuits against the mandate, representing Belmont Abbey College and Colorado Christian University, arguing that forcing religious employers to subsidize medications and procedures they find morally objectionable flies in the face of religious freedom.

By providing education, health care, and countless social services, religiously affiliated organizations play a profound role in sustaining civil society. Policymakers should protect the religious freedom of these organizations-and all employers and individuals-to buy and provide insurance in accordance with their deeply held beliefs about life and health.

Seniors & Providers Dread Obamacare Changes

Medicare patient Ann Lorenz has relied on the advice and recommendations of her neurologist, Dr. Jeffrey English, since she was first diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 13 years ago. So the dramatic changes coming to Medicare via the Affordable Care Act-and its potential to limit seniors' access to care as doctors foresee dropping Medicare patients-already worry Lorenz.

"One of the first things you ask a new doctor is if they accept Medicare," Lorenz, who lives in Atlanta, says in a new Impact of Obamacare video. "And we have always seemed to have doctors that accepted it, which has worked out very nicely because I have had to go over the last few years...to many doctors...because of age and the various things that happen to you when you get older."

But that reliable acceptance of Medicare patients is in danger. In fact, Dr. English-who dropped his roster of Medicaid patients just six years ago-fears he'll have to take the same action with his Medicare patients if reimbursement rates are too low.

See the full video here along with Heritage's full lineup of Impact of Obamacare videos-which also features the impact the health reform will have on doctors, states, families, and businesses.

Morning Bell: Mitt Romney's Taxes and True Reform

How many times should your money be taxed? One time? Two times? Three times? Four? Sounds like a ridiculous proposition, but that's the true story of capital gains taxes in America, and it's one that's not being told in the continuing debate over Governor Mitt Romney's taxes.

For more than a week, the media has focused on the subject of just how much Romney pays in taxes. On Tuesday, the governor released his tax returns indicating that he paid about 15 percent in taxes last year. At first blush, that sounds like a low rate, especially considering that Romney is admittedly worth millions. But as with all things in politics, there is more to the story.

As most Americans know, marginal individual income tax rates in America range between 15 and 35 percent. However, Americans making money from investments typically earn dividends. They face a lower rate to reduce the tax barrier to investing and growing businesses. For Americans in the lowest two income brackets, the tax rate on dividends is zero. For all the rest, the dividend tax rate is 15 percent - hence Romney's rate.

Why do dividends face lower rates than wages or interest income? Because dividends have already faced one full level of tax at the corporate level.

Schools of Education

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published January 25, 2012 on Townhall.com.

Larry Sand's article "No Wonder Johnny (Still) Can't Read" -- written for The John William Pope Center for Higher Education Policy, based in Raleigh, N.C. -- blames schools of education for the decline in America's education. Education professors drum into students that they should not "drill and kill" or be the "sage on the stage" but instead be the "guide on the side" who "facilitates student discovery." This kind of harebrained thinking, coupled with multicultural nonsense, explains today's education. During his teacher education, Sand says, "teachers-to-be were forced to learn about this ethnic group, that impoverished group, this sexually anomalous group, that under-represented group, etc. -- all under the rubric of 'Culturally Responsive Education.'"

Education majors are woefully lacking in academic skills. Here are some sample test questions for you to answer. Question 2: Martin Luther King Jr. (insert the correct choice) for the poor of all races. a) spoke out passionately, b) spoke out passionate, c) did spoke out passionately, d) has spoke out passionately or e) had spoken out passionate. Is Kagan Signaling Her Recusal on Obamacare?

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Ken Klukowski was published January 23, 2012 on The Washington Examiner website.

Justice Elena Kagan did not participate in the Supreme Court's recent decision not to grant a motion from one of the participants in the upcoming consideration of the constitutionality of Obamacare.

In today's weekly orders from the Court, one of the many amicus groups filing briefs in this case, Freedom Watch, filed a motion asking for permission to share part of the oral argument time when oral arguments are presented on March 26, 27, and 28. This motion was predictably denied, as it almost always is.

But then the following sentence was added at the end of the order: "Justice Kagan took no part in the consideration or decision of this motion."

Many to Benefit from President's Ruling, but Not Us

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published January 23, 2012 in The Washington Times.

Checking his sundial and solar-powered calendar, Barack Obama has decided that he did not have enough time to study the impact of the $7 billion Keystone XL pipeline from Canada, so he killed it.

Seriously. That was the excuse for halting a project that could have created 20,000 jobs, brought 830,000 barrels of oil a day to Texas refineries and helped free America from unstable dictators' stranglehold on our energy supply.

This from the man who had to hurry, hurry, hurry and jam the 2,700-page Obamacare bill down America's throat so, as then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "you can, uh, find out what is in it." He's also the same guy who, in March, went to Brazil, cup in hand, asking the Brazilians to hurry up and develop their offshore oil so we could buy some.

Wade is the chance to recognize the "fundamental constitutional right" to abortion and to "continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams"... Pro-life activists take to National Mall for annual march

WASHINGTON TIMES - Some arrived with fellow parishioners, others with classmates or alongside family members, but the thousands of pro-life activists who rallied Monday on the National Mall to mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade all came to support the same goal: life... (more)

The question is not 'electability,' but 're-electability'

DAVID LIMBAUGH - Republican internecine squabbles this primary season seem to turn on the vying candidates' respective electability against incumbent Barack Obama. But if even uber-liberal New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd has finally awakened to President Obama's arrogance, what does it say about his electability?... (more)

Senator Rand Paul detained by the TSA

JOHN HAYWARD - Senator Rand Paul was on his way from his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Washington, D.C. Monday morning, when he caused some kind of "anomaly" in a body scanner at the airport in Nashville. Agents of the Transportation Security Agency declared that he would have to submit to one of those legendary full-body pat-downs, but before a single rubber glove had snapped into place, Senator Paul refused... Letters to conservatives: a plea for reason

ADAM GRAHAM - Dear Fellow Conservatives, There is a time when it is time, to put aside what Speaker Gingrich's aide once called "tweets and trivia" and to lay out our concerns in a rational way. I write this as a supporter of Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and is the first in a series of letters to those who support Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) for the presidency of the United States, as well as those who are leaning towards this due to the belligerent tactics of some Gingrich supporters... WES VERNON, RA ANALYST - The life story of George Washington is "a miracle." After all, Glenn Beck asks, what other mortal "can lay claim to a legacy that has allowed so many to experience freedom around the world?" In "Being George Washington: The Indispensable Man as You've Never Seen Him," Mr. Beck brings the "father of our country" and first president to life... (more)

The man who gave us Newt

MARK STEYN - The nature of this peculiar primary season -- the reason it seems at odds with both the 2009--2010 political narrative and the seriousness of the times -- was determined by Mitt Romney. Even if you don't mind Romneycare, or the abortion flip-flop, or any of the rest, there's a more basic problem: He's not a natural campaigner, and on the stump he instinctively recoils from any personal connection with the voters... Sharpton grills Romney on taxes despite owing IRS $3.7 million

Al Sharpton went on an improbable rant on his MSNBC program recently, lashing out at Mitt Romney for paying the legally required amount of capital gains taxes -- despite himself owing $3.7 million in back taxes. Sharpton also apparently sees no problem with taking nearly a quarter million dollar salary from his non-profit action group, even though the group is over $1 million in the hole. Watch Sharpton humiliate himself more than he usually does and get Glenn's reaction HERE.

Newt resorts to more leftist attacks

Newt gave an interview on Univision and reverted back to his anti-capitalist, leftist line of attacks on Mitt Romney during the segment. It shouldn't be surprising coming from Newt, who has been readily exposed as a big government progressive Republican - and he's probably feeling a little heat after the latest polling shows Romney has regained the lead in Florida. Glenn reacts to the attack on radio today

Arizona Governor vs. President Obama

President Obama was in Arizona this week and when he got off the plane and was greeted by Gov. Jan Brewer, he spared the pleasantries and started whining like a 2-year-old child. Instead of talking about policies, the border, anything of substance - this ego-maniac complained about what she said about him in a book. Glenn reacts here.

UPDATE: Ted Cruz on Agenda 21

Agenda 21 is one of those creepy intrusive government programs that sort of seeps across America little by little until one day we all wake up knee deep in Agenda 21 slime. Glenn talks with Texas GOP Senate hopeful (and Agenda 21 opponent) Ted Cruz about the latest and what's being done to thwart it. WATCH
