Quote:
"In the classical Islamic view, to which many Muslims are beginning to return, the world and all mankind are divided into two: the House of Islam, where the Muslim law and faith prevail, and the rest, known as the House of Unbelief or the House of War, which it is the duty of Muslims ultimately to bring to Islam. But the greater part of the world is still outside Islam, and even inside the Islamic lands, according to the view of the Muslim radicals, the faith of Islam has been undermined and the law of Islam has been abrogated. The obligation of holy war therefore begins at home and continues abroad, against the same infidel enemy.
Like every other civilization known to human history, the Muslim world in its heyday saw itself as the center of truth and enlightenment, surrounded by infidel barbarians whom it would in due course enlighten and civilize. But between the different groups of barbarians there was a crucial difference. The barbarians to the east and the south were polytheists and idolaters, offering no serious threat and no competition at all to Islam. In the north and west, in contrast, Muslims from an early date recognized a genuine rival-a competing world religion, a distinctive civilization inspired by that religion, and an empire that, though much smaller than theirs, was no less ambitious in its claims and aspirations. This was the entity known to itself and others as Christendom, a term that was long almost identical with Europe."
- Bernard Lewis, writing in an article entitled "The Roots of Muslim Rage" originally published in 'The Atlantic Monthly,' September 1990, pp. 47-60.

January 23, 2012 Many Muslim children in U.S. being taught hate We direct today's email, not only to the attention of our members, but to those enablers and apologists for radical Islam whose only defense of this supremacist ideology is to call anyone who criticizes it a "racist" or "Islamophobe." Please read the eye-popping investigative report below (highlights added), and then, if you know of someone who is quick to wield the "Islamophobia" epithet, please forward this to them. For if they are genuinely concerned about "hate," and not just the advance of a politically correct agenda, they would do well to open their eyes to see the hate they are defending, aiding and abetting.

Muslim Children in America are Being Taught to Hate
Dave Gaubatz
In the last five years I have personally visited over 250 Islamic Centers, Mosques, and Islamic Schools throughout America. The goal of my research has been to determine what Islamic leaders are teaching the young and innocent Muslim children. The findings are abhorrent, sad, unbelievable, frightening, and most disturbing is the fact our government is keeping this dangerous fact from the American people. Muslim children attending mosques and Islamic schools are being taught to hate America, our government, our military personnel, and its non Muslim population. In this article I will identify three significant mosques in America that are leading the way in teaching Muslim children to hate and to influence them to commit violent acts inside our country.

Mr. Obama,
Tomorrow night, you will deliver your, YOUR State of the Union speech. Before you do, you should know how WE see things.
When I say WE, I mean We The People. We who are the real power in this country. We, in whom our founders invested THEIR trust to make the decisions to guide this nation.
We are sick and tired of YOUR empty promises and we are sick of you.
We're sick of your agenda, sick of your administration, sick of your disdain for the constitution and sick of you blaming everything and everybody for the ills of our nation other than yourself.
We are sick of the entitlement agenda. We don't want entitlements we want opportunities. We want the opportunity to move up in life. YOU want us all equal at the bottom and envision a middle class made larger by pulling down the upper class.

CCG: Conservative and experienced judge challenging Anne Covey in Primary
CCG members,
Judge Panepinto is a bona fide constitutional conservative highly qualified judge who has been sidelined by the GOP State Party because he has had the effrontery (!) to run against endorsed candidates. The Judge spoke for one of our CCG meetings last spring and now has asked for our help as he seeks a federal judgeship appointment. Please do all you can to urge Senators Toomey and Casey to recommend Judge Panepinto. (Please refer to the attachments so you can cite his excellent qualifications when you contact the Senators.) WE THE PEOPLE MUST do our part to ensure that judges of integrity with a proven record of commitment to rule according to the original intent of the Constitution are placed in judicial seats of influence. Thank you, Jaime

I am a candidate for appointment for Judge on the Pa. Federal Eastern District Court. Both Sen. Toomey and Casey make suggestions for appointment to President Obama who recommends candidates and they must be confirmed by the US Senate. FYI, I was reviewed by the selection committee in Philadelphia and believe I was already found qualified. There are a number of candidates and this is a difficult and long process. I believe that the Eastern District Court should have qualified, independent and conservative Judges who have demonstrated that they will follow the Constitution and rule of law. I am a Pro Life conservative Jurist and I have a record for 21 yrs of dedicated service, impeccable ethical standards and have always been faithful to my oath of office. I have also received the Highest Recommendations from the Pa Bar Association for the Supreme Court Appellate race when I was a candidate as a testament to my qualifications.
I would appreciate if you can write or contact Sen. Toomey or his staff on my behalf. My Resume is attached.

The Kitchen Table Patriots has issued the following press release today:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Anastasia Przbylski Co-Chair, The Kitchen Table Patriots Phone: +1 (215) 534-1851 EMail:TheKitchenTablePatriots@GMail.com Web:http://www.TheKitchenTablePatriots.org Social:https://www.facebook.com/KitchenTablePatriots Monday, January 23, 2012 The Kitchen Table Patriots Call on The Pennsylvania State Republican Committee to Support an Open Primary for US Senate. Doylestown, PA: As the field of solid Republican Pennsylvania Senatorial candidates takes shape, it is imperative that the people speak regarding their personal choices in seeing the one they feel best qualified among the group advance forward as the viable contender. Given that the Pennsylvania State GOP has in the past picked the candidate they believed best represented the interests of the party, now is the time among grassroots organizations throughout Pennsylvania to call for NO endorsement by the GOP power brokers. We have a wide range of Senatorial Candidates who are seeking the opportunity to run against Senator Bob Casey in the Fall. The Kitchen Table Patriots and FreedomWorks are joining a coalition of grassroots groups and calling on other groups throughout Pennsylvania to join with them in this initiative, protesting any move by the State GOP to endorse, proceed, and use their political muscle to move their preferential pick forward. It is crucial that the people decide through listening to each candidate's message, and formulating their own ideas and beliefs on who can take the State forward and effectively deal with the manifesting problems that temper the Obama Administration. Lois Kaneshiki of the Blair County Republican Women and the Pennsylvania Precinct Project put it this way, "It is important that the Republican electorate understand how their Primary election has been hijacked before they even cast their vote. Only the Republican rank and file can return the party to republican voters." Anastasia Przybylski, FreedomWorks PA state Coordinator and Co-Chair of The Kitchen Table Patriots said "I lost faith in the Pennsylvania State Committee when they endorsed Senator Arlen Spector over Pat Toomey in 2004. It was then that I realized the party was out of touch with fiscal conservatives like myself." We are calling for support among other grassroots organizations to take this message to the State GOP especially since this practice has gone out of favor and is out of touch with 21th century multimedia and internet powered elections and a far more informed and engaged electorate. The Middle East Forum
presents
Joseph Sassoon
Uncovering Saddam's Secrets
During his 35 years in power - both as de facto leader under President Hassan Bakr (1968-79) and as Iraq's President (1979-2003) - Saddam Hussein subordinated the ruling Baath Party to his will, sterilized its governing institutions and reduced the national decision-making apparatus to one man, surrounded by a docile flock of close associates. He did so through a terrifying
mixture of unfettered violence, all-pervasive surveillance system, and generous rewards for collaborators and informers.
How did this extraordinary longevity come to pass and what does it tell about the resilience of Middle Eastern regimes? Did Saddam's toppling break the wall of fear shielding local dictators from their peoples' wrath, thus paving the road for the Arab upheavals?
While the horrors of Saddam's regime had long been an open secret, their full scope came to light when coalition forces in Iraq captured thousands of hours of secret audio and video recordings made by the tyrant and his inner circle. It is these documents that form the basis for the newly published Saddam Hussein's Ba'th Party: Inside an Authoritarian Regime(Cambridge, 2012) by Joseph Sassoon .
A native of Baghdad and a seasoned commentator on Arab affairs, Mr. Sassoon is an adjunct professor of Middle East studies at Georgetown University and a former public scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has published extensively on Iraqi history and politics, and is the author of Economic Policy in Iraq, 1932-1950 (1987) and The Iraqi Refugees: The New Crisis in the Middle East (2009).
Mr. Sassoon will discuss the innermost workings of Hussein's control system in an attempt to explain the extraordinary rise and fall of Iraq's longest reigning ruler and their implications for the study of authoritarianism, both in Iraq and in the Middle East at large.

Hey All, Please spread the word on this panel discussion and consider attending. As per earlier emails, implementing an exchange in PA is de-facto acceptance of ObamaCare. Other states have refused to implement the exchanges in keeping with the spirit of total resistance. Nick Pandelides is leading the fight for our side and is on the panel. There will be more coming out shortly on next steps that individuals and groups can do lobby Harrisburg and exert public pressure to have Pennsylvania's collaboration with ObamaCare ended. THE ISSUE: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act mandates that small businesses and individuals must purchase health insurance and obtain government insurance subsidies through state-based federally regulated health insurance exchanges beginning in 2014. States which do not design and administer federally compliant exchanges will default to a federal system. A recent PA Insurance Department announcement that a state-based exchange will be created in PA has generated controversy. Supporters say an exchange designed and administered in PA will serve Pennsylvanians better than one controlled by the federal government. Opponents say it is inconsistent for the Commonwealth to institute provisions of the PPACA while engaged in the constitutional challenge against the law. Our experts will present both sides and answer questions to help YOU decide.
The Lehigh Valley COALITION for Health Care Reform is a non-profit, non-partisan grassroots coalition of concerned citizens and health care professionals committed to educating the public about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and other measures and policies impacting America's health.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress
Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:
- Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
- Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
- Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care
The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

Lou Flanagan, House Bill 934: Voter ID
"My state Rep. Warren Kampf responded to my question about where the Voter ID bill stands in Harrisburg. His response appears at end of this emaiI. It seems clear that unless we apply pressure to the state senate government committee, this bill will go nowhere. My questions for them are: Where do you stand on the bill? What are you doing to move it out of committee? If you oppose it, tell me why. Who on the committee is against it, and why? Louis: Thank you for the email regarding Voter ID (House Bill 934). The House passed Voted ID on June 23rd. I voted for this bill if you will remember. It is now the responsibility of the Senate to take action to continue to move HB 934 forward. I would advise you to contact the Senators who comprise the Senate State Government Committee, those in Senate leadership positions and your local Senator to let them know of your desire to move this forward. Also you may ask for an accounting of why this has been held up and not considered. Please let me know if I can help with other state-related matters. Voter Cheating
You know, comrades," says Stalin, "that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this - who will count the votes, and how. (Boris Bazhanov's Memoirs of Stalin's Former Secretary,1992, only available in Russian. Russia's Vladimir Putin is accused of voter fraud and failure to solve problems with health care availability, immigration control, and unsustainable pensions. Sound familiar? Absolutely. Will he lie? Absolutely. But unlike Obama's ACORN, he will probably admit it.
Background
There are several lines of independent evidence for cheating in the 2012 election:
a) 12/30/11, Voter ID: PA House Bill 934
Eric Holder has ordered his staff not to meddle with cases of voter fraud that involve minorities (J. Christian Adams has written widely about such cases), Salina Zito (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) predicted that PA in November '12 will go according to the Philadelphia suburbs, ACORN has both a record for voter scams and operates new sites in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our State Attorney General is stepping aside, and there is little public information about Mayor Nutter's views on this matter. Meanwhile, there is an early February deadline from our Governor as Republicans in the PA legislature attempt to define a list of acceptable IDs and Democrats cry that minorities and old people can't handle this demand. I smell more fraud from a bunch- ACORN - already known nationally for fraud and Corbett's February deadline invites some deliberate lapse by the D's...And intrusion by Eric Holder would stall our ID program until after ACORN has done their job for BO ...
b) Jeffrey Kuhner, Washington Times: BO & Voter ID
"...South Carolina's legislation provides for free ID cards to be given to anyone who needs it. Not one person - white, black or brown - is discriminated against or discouraged from casting a vote at the ballot box. Moreover, the Supreme Court already has ruled on the issue - upholding state voter ID laws. In the 2008 Crawford v. Marion County Election Board decision, the high court held that an Indiana law mandating photo identification at the voting booth was indeed constitutional. If it is good enough for the Supreme Court and the overwhelming majority of the states, then it should be for Mr. Holder as well. "It isn't. And the reason is simple: The administration is trying to whip up minority frenzy, propagating the myth of widespread ballot suppression..."
c) Daryl Metcalf, Morning Call: Electoral Integrity (June 18, 2011)
Metcalf is a Republican from Butler County (north of Pittsburgh) "Pennsylvania has a long and ongoing history of documented voter fraud - pre-dating even the frequently forged signature of Mickey Mouse to at least the election of 1918. "Of course, no statewide analysis of voter fraud would be complete without briefly documenting the deeply rooted influence of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
d) Christopher Freind, PA Water Cooler: No ID, No Vote,... Comprende? (June 21, 2011)
"I am not wealthy, but have recently acquired twenty two domiciles throughout Philadelphia. My real estate prowess has afforded me a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our citizens. "I can vote twenty-two times. "You see, I have staked out prime locations, from a cardboard box under the Walt Whitman Bridge to a culvert on Cobbs Creek Parkway to a burnt out shell at 7th and Diamond. Yes, technically, habitating at these locations makes me 'homeless,' but I much prefer the term 'voter-enfranchised.' When you have such a love of democracy, how can anyone have a problem with people who want to vote multiple times, especially the homeless? "Pennsylvania. ACORN PA has become Pennsylvania Communities Organizing for Change (PCOC) and Pennsylvania Neighborhoods for Social Justice (PNSJ).Both were incorporated on January 8, 2010. On July 26, 2010, PCOC filed for another name - Action United - and the organizations now operate under this name. Current board members and staff of these organizations with former ACORN affiliations include: * Lucille Prater Holliday, chair (ACORN member and Democratic state house candidate) * Pat Worrell, co-chair (Chester County, PA ACORN chairman) * Rosa Chacon, secretary/treasurer (ACORN leader in Harrisburg, PA, profiled in ACORN's 2005 annual report) * Fabrico Rodriguez, board member (executive director of Philadelphia Jobs with Justice) * Craig Robbins, executive director (ACORN regional director in Philadelphia, PA) * Maryellen Deckard, southwest regional director (head organizer for ACORN PA) * Jennifer England, communications director (Pittsburg ACORN spokesperson) Action United is located at 846 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130 and 5907 Penn Avenue, Pittsburg(h), PA 15206. The Action United website is www.actionunited.org. http://www.judicialwatch.org/files/documents/2011/acornspecialreport08222011.pdf There is even a Secretary of State project in which leftist groups attempt to bias state elections so that "liberal" Secretaries of State are elected. http://truethevote.org/news/does-your-vote-really-count; http://truethevote.org/news/what-is-the-secretary-of-state-project. There must be some benefit to Republicans if they ignore voter fraud. For example, my acquaintance publishes lists of Republicans who take contributions from unions and refusing to vote against union interests. And conservative Lowman Henry has spoken about the legislative impasse, particularly in the State Senate, produced by about twenty-five who get their money from organized labor. Thus, Nicole Marrone's conclusion is still valid as is Christopher Freind's: "The city of Philadelphia is known for many things: The Liberty Bell, cheesesteaks, water ice, and Santa Claus-booing Eagles fans. But if research that I conducted in 2006 is still accurate today, Philadelphia should also be known for all-inclusive voting - that is, voting regardless of whether one has a pulse or is otherwise eligible to cast a vote..." http://pjmedia.com/blog/small-sample-of-philly-voter-rolls-reveals-hundreds-of-ineligible-names-pjm-exclusive/ There is a bright light on our horizon even though Salena Zito asserted that Pennsylvania electoral votes will depend on turn out in the Philadelphia suburbs: "Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter didn't mince words after four kids were shot and three killed in Philadelphia Tuesday night. "The first way to stop this kind of stuff is for young people to be home when they're supposed to be home, and for adults not to act like idiots and assholes out in the streets of our city shooting at kids in a car," Nutter told FOX 29... A spokesperson for the mayor told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nutter stood by his statement. "He said what he said. He was clear about it, and he meant it. He said what everybody else was thinking," said spokesman Mark McDonald..." http://dailycaller.com/2012/01/12/philly-mayor-dont-act-like-idiots-and-assholes/ What are Mayor Mike's reactions to fraud? Does he value "value" above "deals"? Meanwhile, many Pennsylvanians look to Harrisburg to pass a "Voter ID" law that requires each of us to carry a card with our photo and address on it. Our Governor also says that he needs the law in place by the first week of February if it is to be used this coming November. On the other hand, I recall my son's friends in college fattening their wallets by selling bogus photo ID to students who wanted to buy liquor. I'm sure ACORN knows how to do such things. The ID cards will make cheating a bit more difficult and more expensive for organizers and possibly, but not necessarily, less frequent. And the rest of us will pay the bills for cheaters...

WHAT IS THE PROPER ROLE OF THE COURTS?
"Judicial review requires the judge to determine not whether the law leads to good or bad results, but whether the law violates the Constitution." With issues like the Arizona immigration law and the Obamacare individual mandate coming before the Supreme Court this spring, the courts are poised to play a pivotal role in 2012. That's why the newest volume in the Understanding America series, What is the Proper Role of the Courts?, is one you won't want to miss. Rather than abide by the Founders' vision for three co-equal branches of government, the courts have begun to claim an exclusive power to interpret the Constitution, often in light of their own personal preferences and in a way that directly impacts Americans' liberties and lives. This volume in the Understanding America series examines the proper function of the courts, and the critical roles all three branches of the government must play in preserving the Constitution. Learn more in What is the Proper Role of the Courts?, available online now.
Don't miss these volumes in the Understanding America series:

Why Is America Exceptional? While other nations are bound by a common ethnicity, religion, or history, America's dedication to liberty makes it unique. This volume examines the significance of the United States' founding principles and why its continuing commitment to those principles matters to freedom everywhere. Read More

Who Makes American Foreign Policy? The Constitution, which governs how America makes foreign policy, creates a strong but limited government to protect Americans' liberty. This volume in the Understanding America series explains how the Senate and the President share responsibility for making foreign policy, and why this balance of power is critical to preserving and defending American independence. How Should Americans Think About Human Rights? America was founded on the understanding that everyone has inalienable rights and that government must secure these rights. Today, these natural rights are at risk, endangered by modern notions about "human rights" that are incompatible with the Founders' view. This volume explains how Americans should think and act to protect those universal rights championed by the Founders. Read More

RedState Morning Briefing
For January 24, 2012
1. Former Kerry staffer arrested for blowing agents' cover.
Mind you, you wouldn't know that from the Washington Post's article on the arrest of John Kiriakou. While the Washington Post - from appearances, somewhat reluctantly - reported that Kiriakou (a former CIA officer and Senate Foreign Affairs staffer) had been arrested for revealing names, operations and investigations to the media back in 2008-2009, the paper completely neglected to mention who Kiriakou ended up working for - which is to say, Senator John Kerry (D, MA). Oddly enough, the Washington Post managed to simultaneous note that "[t]he committee had not been aware of the criminal probe of Kiriakou, according to a former U.S. official familiar with the matter" in its article, while unaccountably mentioning that Kiriakou has been leaking classified information publicly for years - including to the, well, Washington Post. One can only guess why a premiere Left-Establishment paper would be so eager to whitewash the record when it comes to protecting prominent Left-Establishment politicians... like, say, John Kerry, who is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee (at least until next January)...
2. Congressional Republicans Can and Must Force Obama's Hand on Keystone Pipeline Immediately prior to the congressional recess in December, Congress passed an inefficacious two-month extension of the Social Security tax cut. Additionally, they reauthorized another two months of unprecedented long-term unemployment benefits, along with more spending for Medicare 'doc fix.' None of it, including the entitlement spending, was paid for in any meaningful way. Nevertheless, you might ask, didn't we get the Keystone pipeline as part of the deal? Well, in reality we got nothing. 3. The Republican Base Simply Does Not Like Mitt Romney & Why The Press Rarely Reports It Mitt Romney is supposedly a brilliant private businessman. It is the theme of his campaign. If a business were to spend as much as he has spent to lose Iowa in 2012 garnering less votes in 2012 than he got in 2008 and then lose all but two counties in South Carolina, you'd think a private businessman would shake up his campaign. Right now in running his campaign, Mitt Romney conveys all the business acumen of a co-CEO of Research in Motion, both of whom are themselves losing their jobs. There is, however, some important insight into this we should all now see.

Conservative history:
Explain how conservatives are the primary drivers of man's evolution. For instance, fire can only possibly have been discovered by a conservative unworried by liberal health and safety regulations. Moreover, by learning to cook meat, Early man made it more digestible, meaning he had more energy available to develop not only his "brawnpower" but his brainpower. If Homo Liberalis had gotten his way, fire would have been banned as a dangerous substance, and we'd still be living in the trees, chewing natural, healthy, raw vegetables, burping contentedly, and being ruled by a loud, gossipy matriarchy of Oprahs and Streisands.

Whoever the Republican Presidential nominee is, let's hope that, if elected to the White House, he turns off the spigot of visa rubber-stamping to America. (But don't hold your breath.) Last week, Barack Hussein Obama announced that he was going to make it even easier for foreigners to come to America on visitor and student visas. He made the absurd announcement-appropriately-at Disney World. But he's apparently already made it very easy for Saudi Muslims, to the detriment of America's national security. Last year, Saudi applications for visas to the United States more than quadrupled from 25,000 in 2010 to 110,000 in 2011. Even worse is the fact that a whopping 93%-or 102,300- of these applications were approved, 75% of them-nearly 77,000-within a week (!) of the application.

JERUSALEM IS MORE THAN JUST A CITY
By: Joseph Puder
Jerusalem deserves more respect than the contemptuous words of a self-hating Jew named Matt Gross, the travel reporter for the New York Times. His narrow focus ignored the magnificence of the City on the Hill, situated 800 meters above sea level and dominated by biblical hills and towering modern skyscrapers. Likewise, he missed the significance of the human laboratory that is Jerusalem. The essence of Jerusalem, unbeknownst to Gross, is more than that of a city; it is a symbol of hope for humanity.
In the ancient Old City, surrounded by the Herodian and Ottoman walls, Orthodox Jews bustle about in black long coats co-mingling with priests in black robes and brown-clad monks, as well as with Arab Muslims wearing kaffiyahs on their heads. Added to the mix, this reporter spotted a nearby mix of mini-skirted Scandinavian girls, Russian, Brazilian, Japanese, Indian, African, British, German, and American tourists, as well as secular and skull-capped Israelis seeking out souvenirs in the narrow alleys of the Arab souk (Arab market).
Just a few yards outside the Jaffa Gate is the newly built Mamila open mall with its chic stores offering clothing, fine jewelry and gift items, as well as art galleries and restaurants. At the Aroma, (Israeli chain of café-restaurants with branches in New York) one can witness a heartwarming sight of head covered Arab-Muslim women sitting next to a table with Orthodox Jewish women whose hair is also covered. At another table, western attired Arabs are arguing loudly in good spirit, while at the next table skull-capped Israeli teenagers are busy talking. In another corner of the Café, three young Arab-Muslim girls are giggling and exchanging experiences in Arabic. Secular Israeli Jews can also be seen in this kaleidoscope that makes up Israeli society. It is a picture of peace, in contrast to the often portrayed scenes of conflict and violence western reporters are so fond of presenting their readers in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Toronto.
Jerusalem is not merely a holy city for Christian pilgrims who come to follow the path of Jesus' last torturous walk along the Via Delarosa's Stations of the Cross, or the Church of the Holy Sepulchere (Jesus' burial place) or the Garden Tomb. Nor is Jerusalem 's Kotel, or Western wall (a remnant of the Temple destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE) the only meaningful Jerusalem experience for Jews. In addition to archaeology and biblical history, Jerusalem is a vibrant mix of culture, entertainment, and natural beauty, aspects of which Mr. Gross did not bother to examine.
The Hebrew University at Givat Ram in central Jerusalem is an outstanding academic institution that offers enriching lectures on a wide range of issues, and its Mount Scopes facility offers a beautiful view of the city. The city is replete with museums, a biblical zoo, and historical sites, as well as a magnificent Supreme Court building and the Knesset hill.
Malha Mall, built just outside of the city, has become a hub for the local folk - a place where Arab and Jewish Jerusalemites come together. And, in central Jerusalem on the Ben Yehuda pedestrian mall one sees tourists, out-of-town Israelis and locals in the restaurants, falafel stands, ice cream parlors, gift stores and the ever present nut shops with mouthwatering pistachios, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, almonds, and more. The cozy Nahalat Shiv'a, another pedestrian promenade is located nearby and offers tourists the best of Israeli artists in chic galleries, and a variety of foods in its many restaurants.
Another experience unique to Jerusalem is the opportunity to have coffee or a meal on the balcony of the renowned King David Hotel. While the superb food is certainly a draw, the panoramic view of the Old City with its awe-inspiring ramparts as well as the Golden dome of the Omar mosque and the al-Aksa mosque and the Tower of David (the evening light shows dominant the sky), are what leave an everlasting impression.
Gross' description of Israel reflects the sentiments of many assimilated Jews who have discarded all vestiges of their Jewish identity, when he writes, "But to me, a deeply secular Jew, Israel has always felt less like a country than a politically iffy burden. For decades I'd tried to put as much distance between myself and Judaism as possible, and the idea that I was supposed to feel some connection to my ostensible homeland seemed ridiculous. Give me Montenegro, Chiapas, Iran even. But Israel was like Christmas: something I'd never do."
Had Gross stepped beyond his mental confines he would have found a fascinating Israel and an extraordinary Jerusalem. Had he taken the southwestern approach to the city through Ein Karem he would likely encountered the refreshing and dry air in the pine-tree forested hills of Jerusalem, its secret streams, and the miracle of science and compassion that awaits any visitor to Hadassah hospital. Entering the city through its diverse neighborhoods he could have gone to Israel Museum, where the Dead Sea scrolls are protected in a feat of engineering known as The Shrine of the Book, continued on to see The Bible Museum, Yad Vashem, Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem University on Mt. Scopus and, in his travel, the continual growth of an ancient-new city.
Israel and Jerusalem, for those who truly seek to know it, is a microcosm of all that is beautiful and diverse. Surrounded by hostile neighbors whose countries are mired in violence and poverty, Israel is an island of progress, modernity, and civility. Here the Bible comes alive and with new discoveries every day, it is an archaeological wonderland. It is a small (less than 8000 Sq. miles) country with every conceivable landscape: Snow laden slopes of Mt. Hermon in the northern Golan where skiers abound, to a moon-shaped desert in the southern Negev. The lush Galilee with its mountains and sea resembles the Pacific Northwest. The Sharon region with its orange groves resembles California and Florida, while Tel Aviv with the Mediterranean shoreline looks a bit like Miami and, Haifa is Israel's San Francisco. Eilat, at its southern tip is Israel's Las Vegas and Hawaii, offering physical beauty and year round sun without humidity.
To most self-respecting Jews, Israel is a miracle they are proud of and they will tell you that Israel is no Iraq or Afghanistan. Israel is a self-sustaining nation where the combination of efforts made by Jews, Muslims, Christians and others are on display throughout the country. If one travels away from their media sources and ventures into the markets, theatres, streets and universities, one will see how different cultures and traditions are respectfully accommodating to one another in a way that belies the negative reports.
For most of humanity, Christian and Jews in particular, Jerusalem is the center of the world, the shining city of many hills with unparalleled beauty and history. Matt Gross was guided by his prejudices and as such was unable to grasp the gifts. The city of Jerusalem does deserve better...

Sen. Mark Kirk has stroke, could have problems with left arm, leg
By MAUDLYNE IHEJIRIKA Staff Reporter / mihejrikia@suntimes.com January 23, 2012
Updated: January 23, 2012 9:06PM
U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) had a stroke over the weekend and underwent "successful" surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is recovering, doctors said. "Sen. Kirk has suffered a stroke to the right side of his brain, which I believe will affect his ability to move his left arm and possibly his left leg, and possibly will involve some facial paralysis," Dr. Richard Fessler, the neurosurgeon who performed the surgery to reduce brain swelling on the 52-year-old senator, said at a Monday news conference. "Fortunately, the stroke was not on the left side of the brain, in which case it would affect his ability to speak, understand and think. We are very hopeful that when we get through all the recovery, all those functions will be intact."

Morning Bell: Celebrating School Choice Week
What singular cause could bring together the likes of Democratic campaign strategist James Carville, Republican Governor Bobby Jindal (LA), actor Sacha Baron Cohen, and 2,000 families, all under one roof? The answer: school choice - empowering parents with the ability to save their children from failing schools, thereby giving them a shot at a brighter future.
Those big names came together to kick off National School Choice Week in New Orleans over the weekend, a celebration that is being echoed in some 400 events across the country in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, with half the nation's governors declaring "School Choice Week" in their states. Actor, comedian, and education advocate Bill Cosby offered his support for school choice, as well:
I strongly support National School Choice Week because all children in America should be able to access the best schools possible. We have a moral and societal obligation to give our children the opportunity to succeed in school, at work, and in life. We cannot meet that obligation unless parents are empowered to select the best schools of their children. I encourage everyone who wants to see a transformation of American education to get involved in National School Choice Week.

"This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud." For people who grew up at a certain time with a thick glowing monitor casting light on their faces these were the closing words of their own Declaration of Independence. For those people the internet was not a layout of graphics and flash videos blaring from every website, but amalgams of text. The internet before the internet was an elitist place, like Linux, it was part puzzle and part love of taking intangible things apart and putting them back together again. Like most revolutionaries they were doomed to be made irrelevant by the consequences of the forces that they had set in motion. The curiosity that was their code of honor has been overtaken by the world that they helped open up. And that world is an amazing place. Freedom of information is no longer an idealistic slogan, it's a commonplace reality. So commonplace that it's hardly worth mentioning. People once fought and died to protect libraries. Now you can take every single library within a hundred miles of where you live, whether it's a metropolis or a small town, and dangle it from the end of your keychain as a flash drive. Books, articles, vast troves of information, even classified diplomatic cables. Everything is available. While the back ends of the system have become more complex, the end user experience has become trivially simple. With the iPad and the Kindle Fire, and Android and Windows 8 spreading the experience across generic tablets, the user experience comes down to touching the screen of a locked down system which is actually a disguised storefront to sell the user content through a carefully controlled, but fun to use environment. That is an overstatement, but it's also the trend. It has been a long journey, but we finally have the technology that movies told us to expect wrapped in a simple package without any of the depth or complexity. Without most of the freedom that was at the core of how the technology got started. The economics of the internet are based around it as a vehicle for the delivery of goods and services. That transformation is slowly destroying American retail, it is doing so at a snail's place as big box retailers struggle to adapt, but the shopping mall and the big box store are still dinosaurs and their day is swiftly coming. Retailers who sold anything that can be digitized and delivered over the internet are already gone. Music stories, video rental places and now bookstores are vanishing into the past. An era when we get many of our goods out of CAD/CAM printers is not entirely inconceivable.

Judge rules Obama must PROVE presidential eligibility in Georgia courtroom on Thursday
Jan 23, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins
by Doug Book, staff writer
For those who have waited 3 years for a judge to finally rule that Barack Hussein Obama must prove that he is legally and Constitutionally qualified to run for or serve as President of the United States, the day may have come at last.
For on Friday, Georgia State Office of Administrative Hearings Judge Michael Malihi ruled that subpoenas demanding the presence of Barack Obama in his Georgia courtroom on January 26th along with the original form of his Hawaii birth certificate and information on his myriad Social Security numbers will remain in force.
Obama 's attorney Michael Jablonski had filed a motion to quash those subpoenas, arguing if Obama were made to answer questions before the court it would "...[require] him to interrupt duties as President of the United States..." (1)
It was also Obama's claim that "presidential electors and Congress, not the State of Georgia, hold the Constitutional ... Continue Reading:Judge rules Obama must PROVE presidential eligibility in Georgia courtroom on Thursday

JANUARY 22, 1973, the Supreme Court decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton allowed abortion in all nine months of pregnancy. 23 years later, Norma McCorvey, who was the "Jane Roe" in the Roe v. Wade suit, was interviewed by USA Today. She stated that once, while employed at a clinic when no one was in: "I went into the procedure room and laid down on the table...trying to imagine what it would be like having an abortion...I broke down and cried." On ABC's World News Tonight, Norma McCorvey said: "I think abortion's wrong. I think what I did with Roe v. Wade was wrong." On November 3, 2005, former Democrat President Jimmy Carter stated to reporters at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC, regarding his book, Our Enduring Values -America's Moral Crisis: "I never have felt that any abortion should be committed-I think each abortion is the result ... Obama's missing moral compass Jan 22, 2012 02:13 pm | Coach Collins By Jerry Todd, staff writer Dedicated leftist singer Harry Belafonte is frustrated in early 2012 that Barack Obama "has no moral compass." About 85% of us claim the Bible as the foundational moral compass. Can we set course in a world of chaos where we have to measure and guide the work of our leaders in a "Government of the People, by the People and for the People?" We have a big and ongoing job to regain our bearings and get back on course. The polarity of that giant magnet called "Planet Earth" has switched from north to south and back again over eons of time. The "progressive" movement, after decades of nudging, has flipped the polarity of our national moral compass. The ship of state is lost in a sea of financial manipulation and selective privilege. It's time for a course correction to re-assure a safe journey for all. This Moral Compass consists of three sets of three ... Continue Reading:Obama's missing moral compass comments | read more |

The Foundation
"Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire called conscience." --George Washington
Political Futures
Newt's big win
"Newt Gingrich won South Carolina. Big. If you had bet me Monday morning you would own my house, my car and my cat. I thought Romney had a lock on South Carolina. But, this last week was the best political week for a major candidate I have ever seen. It was all Newt. Newt's performance in Monday's debate was so good that every candidate for any office, prepping for a debate, should be forced to watch it and learn from it. On Thursday, Newt knew he was going to have to answer a question about his ex-wife's allegations. You know all about that. Newt went back to his early-debate tactic of attacking the question and the questioner -- in this case CNN's John King -- and he didn't just wipe the issue off as a negative, he turned it into a major positive. Outside of Hogwart's that's a piece of political magic I would not have believed possible. This last week was also the worst political week for a major candidate I have ever seen -- not counting weeks that included a woman claiming sexual harassment. It was all Mitt. In Monday's debate Romney got involved in an argument with Rick Santorum over voting rights for felons. Voting rights for felons? And Santorum did pretty well. Then Romney stumbled over another question about his taxes and his company, Bain Capital, and he more-or-less played to a draw. ... Romney has the political infrastructure and the money to be able to operate in multiple states at the same time. ... But ... Romney has to make it happen." --political analyst Rich Galen
Will Gingrich or Romney win the nomination? Or will Santorum or Paul come from behind?
Opinion in Brief
"Newt Gingrich routed Mitt Romney in South Carolina because he routed the media first. A Public Policy Polling survey of likely South Carolina primary voters completed on Friday revealed that 77 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion of the media. Among the most conservative South Carolina primary voters, fully 89 percent had an unfavorable opinion of the media. The same poll showed Gingrich beating Romney in the primary, 37 percent to 28 percent -- fairly close to the actual outcome. Conservatives not only resent the liberal media for trying to pick the Republican nominee ... but they also resent Republican politicians who, once elected, spend their careers appeasing the media while abandoning conservative principles. ... Conservatives want a president whose attitude toward the media matches the attitude Gingrich has shown in recent debates. A president with that kind of attitude, they hope, might actually govern as a conservative." --columnist Terence P. Jeffrey
For the Record
"[Newt Gingrich's] propaganda film [on Mitt Romney] may not have been entirely accurate but -- and this is the point -- it obviously worked. It also clearly disarmed Romney and left him with his guard down when the knockout punch -- his taxes -- came along. It was obvious all along that his reluctance to release his taxes was based on the fact that he pays capital gains on his income, not 'income taxes.' That's clearly defensible and entirely legal -- but the electorate is in no mood for a lecture on the distinction, and it's terrible in the current political environment. ... Segments on the right have not entirely digested the notion that Obama and his party are running on a platform of contempt for America and 'fundamental change' for the future; it's like they think the Dems don't really mean it. And that taking the high road by confining the campaign to 'jobs' will appeal to the 'real' America somewhere out there in the heartland. And that playing rough is beneath us. Newt played rough in South Carolina and won big. That ought to tell the GOP something. ... [Romney] has to learn from this stunning defeat: The base is itching for a fight with everything the Obama Democrats stand for and they don't much care who gives it to them, just as long as somebody does." --columnist Michael Walsh
Government"Spending on Medicaid, a theoretically cooperative federal-state program, is approximately 40 percent of all federal funds given to states and 7 percent of all federal spending. Enacted in 1965 as a program for the poor, it has exploded. The increase in its costs by the end of this decade is expected to be $434 billion. ... Obamacare requires states to cover all persons with incomes up to, effectively, 138 percent of the poverty level. The federal government will pay all increased costs (other than administrative costs) until 2016; by 2020 states will pay 10 percent of the expansion. But even with the federal government paying most of the costs, in many states their portion of Medicaid costs is the largest item in their budgets, even exceeding education. And Obamacare, which forbids states to make more restrictive the eligibility criteria it adopted before this new burden, would deny all Medicaid funds to noncompliant states. This would cost most states billions of dollars. ... In theory, state participation in Medicaid is voluntary; practically, no state can leave Medicaid because ... [it] leaves states this agonizing choice: Allow expanded Medicaid to devastate your budgets, or abandon the poor." --columnist George Will The Gipper"Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves." --Ronald Reagan Essential Liberty"If you were to rank the countries of the world in terms of economic freedom, where would the United States fall? ... [T]here is, in fact, a resource that ranks every country by this measure -- the 2012 Index of Economic Freedom, and the United States comes in at No. 10. That's right: the nation that is supposed to lead the world in liberty finishes behind nine others, including Ireland, Chile, Switzerland and Canada. Even the small African nation of Mauritius beats us. ... The U.S. now ranks 127th in the world in [government spending]. Spending by government consumes 42.2 percent of gross domestic product. Total public debt is now larger than the entire economy. Taxes are another problem. ... Regulations continue to grow in number, making it harder than necessary for our economy to recover. How bad is it? More than 70 major rules have been imposed since 2009, and they cost Americans nearly $40 billion last year. ... We can't hope to create the number of jobs we need under these conditions. That's why we have to get serious about cutting government down to size, overhauling our tax system, and transforming costly entitlement programs." --Heritage Foundation president Ed Feulner Insight"The man of system ... is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamoured with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government, that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it. He goes on to establish it completely and in all its parts, without any regard either to the great interests or to the strong prejudices which may oppose it." --economist Adam Smith (1723-1790) Faith & FamilyYesterday marked the 39th anniversary of the two most tragic Supreme Court decisions in American history, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. We appropriately marked the Sanctity of Life. Barack Obama, on the other hand, celebrated death. "As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade," he said, "we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman's health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman's right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right. ... As we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams." Share your thoughts on the Sanctity of Life and the Left's complete disregard of it here. Culture"Today, in America, many denounce the black-white gap in economic and other achievements, which they attribute to the same kinds of causes as those to which the lags of Eastern Europeans have been attributed. Moreover, the persistence of these gaps, years after the civil rights laws were expected to close them, is regarded as something strange and even sinister. Yet the economic disparities between Eastern Europeans and Western Europeans remains to this day greater than the economic disparities between blacks and whites in America -- and the gap in Europe has lasted for centuries. Focusing attention and attacks on people who have greater wealth-generating capacity -- whether races, classes or whatever -- has had counterproductive consequences, including tragedies written in the blood of millions. Whole totalitarian governments have risen to dictatorial power on the wings of envy and resentment ideologies. Intellectuals have all too often promoted these envy and resentment ideologies. There are both psychic and material rewards for the intelligentsia in doing so, even when the supposed beneficiaries of these ideologies end up worse off. When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear." --economist Thomas Sowell Reader Comments"Regarding Mark Alexander's essay, "The Problem With Rich Republicans," how much money Romney has is his business. He should decline to release any information about his income or net worth." --New Hampshire Editor's Reply: There are two key points in this essay. 1. However subjective, there are moral and ethical obligations associated with aggregating wealth. 2. As clearly stated, while Romney does not "owe" any of us an explanation or justification for his wealth, neither how much he has or how he made it, if Romney wants to defeat Obama's classist rhetoric, he best get this information on the table NOW. He must frame it in the proper Liberty/free-enterprise context. The longer he hedges, the more difficult it will be for him to frame the debate. Of course, in our free society, Romney is rightly entitled to use his wealth as his conscience dictates. But as a presidential candidate he will benefit from genuine transparency. In the inimitable words of Samuel Adams in 1775, "The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men." "The accumulation of wealth imposes no obligations. Apart from lottery winners and thieves, wealth is obtained by providing something of value to others or by putting one's capital at risk. As God saw no need to include a commandment related to such "obligations", neither do I." --New York Editor's Reply: "God saw no need to include a commandment related to such 'obligations'"? Except those first two pesky old commandments, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," and "Do not make idols of any kind." If you can't make the leap between those commandments and moral and ethical obligations associated with wealth, then I suppose you also miss the a strong theme in the New Testament on obligations of the rich in service to the poor. Regardless of your faith, these words from Luke 12:34 are universally true: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." "With regard to Friday's Digest 'And Last', Fantasyland at Disney World was the perfect venue for Obama to announce yet another 'Mickey Mouse' solution to America's problems." --Raymond The Last Word"Mr. Obama this week blocked Keystone pipeline, a decision that means tens of thousands of jobs lost, new energy possibilities rejected. It is a decision so bad, so political, that it amounts to a scandal. But it just sort of eased through the news, blurrily. All the cameras were focused on the Republicans, who were distracted by their own dramas. They did not, together, in one voice, protest, as they should have. Keystone happened while they were busy looking like the Keystone Kops." --columnist Peggy Noonan Semper Vigilo, Fortis, Paratus et Fidelis! Nate Jackson for The Patriot Post Editorial Team

Tonight President Obama will deliver his State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress and the nation.
The President always seems to conveniently forget in his speeches that he has been president for the past three years. We can expect him to refuse to take responsibility for how his big spending policies have contributed to our economic woes. Instead, the President will promote class warfare to gain support for his tax increases and bigger government.
So in advance of the State of the Union speech, Americans for Prosperity is launching Obama Forgets a 7-day effort that will highlight some of the Obama Administration's worst offenses to the principles of limited government and free market enterprise.
"Obama Forgets" will lead up to President Obama's State of the Union address, when AFP will host large watch parties throughout the country.
Click here to follow the 7-day effort, and attend an AFP-hosted watch party on January 24th. Click here for details on the watch parties!
In advance of President Obama's State of the Union address, we're making sure to keep a spotlight on the Solyndra scandal, one of the worst examples of government cronyism in modern history.
With Solyndra, President Obama used our tax dollars to pick winners and losers in the market place in pursuit of his global warming ideology. The result was predictable: failure, wasted tax dollars, bankruptcy for the company and job losses for over 1,000 Americans. This a glaring example of government cronyism as our tax dollars went to support the companies of wealthy donors to the Obama campaign.
 | Obama Sacrifices Pawns for Politics |
The extent of political cronyism continues to be revealed. The latest reports show that the Administration knew that Solyndra could not pay its bills and planned to fire over 1,100 workers, but told the company to hold off until after the 2010 elections. We must tell President Obama: stop using taxpayer dollars to fund green energy scams like Solyndra because American workers are not political pawns. Click here to see AFP's new ad and to sign the petition now! Please take action now, and let the President know that American jobs and the economy are critical, and that you stand on the side of prosperity. Sincerely, Tim Phillips President, Americans for Prosperity |

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals gave good reason for celebration for the hundreds of thousands who will arrive in Washington for the 39th annual March for Life last Monday.
The court earlier upheld the constitutionality of a new law in Texas requiring that abortion providers do ultrasound exams and that a woman listen to the physician's description of her unborn child and to the heartbeat before deciding whether to abort.
The law, signed by Gov. Rick Perry in May, was blocked by a federal-district court in August. It argued that the law impinged on the free-speech rights of abortion providers.
Now, Texas may become not just the nation's largest creator of jobs, but the nation's best protector of human life.

Media Show Viciousness Early In 2012 Campaign GrassTopsUSA Exclusive Commentary By Don Feder 01/23/2012 Why did the media chicken cross the road? Because it heard there was dirt on Newt to scratch on the other side. If Gingrich was the big winner in South Carolina, the mainstream media was the big loser. At the Thursday evening debate, there were only two standing ovations - both for the ex-Speaker when he went after CNN moderator John King. BTW, isn't CNN hosting a Republican debate a bit like having a debate for Prime Minister of Israel sponsored by Hamas and Hezbollah? King started the evening by asking Gingrich if he'd like to "respond to" the allegations of his second wife, broadcast in an ABC interview that evening, that Newt had asked her for an "open marriage." Incensed, the candidate shot back: "I think the destructive, vicious negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern the country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office and I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate with a topic like that." Makes it harder - for conservatives. ABC's decision to go with the allegations of a bitter ex-spouse (along with its refusal to consider countervailing evidence) 48 hours before the polls opened in South Carolina, shows just how destructive and vicious big media intends to be in this crucial election. Anyone who thinks the timing of ABC's broadcast is coincidental probably believes the Easter Bunny won Mitt Romney over to the pro-life cause, during a blizzard on the Fourth of July. What happened to the media's battle cry during the Clinton impeachment, "It's just about sex" ... plus perjury? Then, we weren't supposed to care about what consenting adults did in the privacy of the Oval Office - even when one of them was a married president and the other an intern half his age. The MSM made us feel like a bunch of puritanical inquisitors peeking under DNA-stained skirts. Now, when it's a highly suspect charge against a conservative that's totally unsupported - well, inquiring minds want to know. It was the media's second attempt in a week to sandbag the Speaker. In the Monday evening debate, FOX's Juan Williams asked Gingrich if he didn't think his comments that inner-city kids needed a work ethic, combined with his assertion that Obama is "The Food Stamp President," "belittle the poor and racial minorities." If you can't call someone a racist, say he's insensitive to minorities or that his comments hurt their feelings. The audience booed Williams - demonstrating how insensitive they are to media bias. Sadly, Black kids are primarily raised by women. In such single-parent homes, the work ethic is often absent. In 2010, the out-of-wedlock birthrate among African Americans was 72%. Partially as a result, in August 2010, the Black unemployment rate was 16.7%, more that double that among whites. The number of food-stamp recipients (a majority white) has risen from a high of 28.2 million under George W. Bush to 44.7 million under Barack Obama (also in August 2011). But, because Obama is a man of mixed race, to recognize reality is bigoted, hateful and belittles the poor and racial minorities. While the MSM broadcast division was pummeling Newt, the print battalion was also arrayed on the soon-to-be bloody field of battle. The cover story in the January 23rd Newsweek rhetorically asked: "Why are Obama's Critics So Dumb?" - not to mention greedy, fanatical and dismissive of the poor and racial minorities. Andrew Sullivan explained that, drooling idiots that we are, Obama's critics don't understand that "by extending a hand to his opponents; when they respond by raising a fist" the president "demonstrates that they are the source of the problem: then, finally, he moves to his preferred position of moderate liberalism and fights for it without being effectively tarred as an ideologue or a divider." No, honestly, that's what he wrote. Please stop laughing so I can continue. The man who worships at the shrine of Saul Alinsky - and once said America-hater Jeremiah Wright was a profound influence on his thinking - champions a "moderate liberalism." The president who once told Republicans to shut up and "sit in the back" of the car, and now says he'll ignore Congress and the Constitution and rule by executive order, has "extended a hand to his opponents." The man who increased the national debt by more than 50% in three years, who nationalized GM, who's poured billions in bailout money into companies owned by his cronies, who killed the Keystone pipeline to appease his radical enviro followers, who considers it a heroic achievement when unemployment dips slightly below 9%, isn't the problem. It's his dumb critics - stupid. Newsweek is famous for bottom-feeder covers. Last August, it ran a photo of Michele Bachmann (labeled "The Queen of Rage") that made the Minnesota Congresswoman look like the Zombie Farmer's Daughter. Even The Washington Post noted the bias. Newsweek's editors have no idea why the publication went from magazine-size to a hefty pamphlet in a few years. In November 2008, the average issue was 124-pages, with 73 pages of editorial content. In the February 21, 2011 issue, the weekly views magazine weighed in at a svelte 48 pages - only 38 of which are editorial content. Still, Newsweek rarely misses an opportunity to spit in the face of Middle America. Too bad Obama's critics can't be as brilliant as Newsweek's editors. Not to be outdone, last December, Time (the DNC's other house organ) named "The Protester" its 2011 "Person of the Year." The article paid homage to protesters throughout the ages: "In the 1960s in America they marched for Civil Rights and against the Vietnam War (and gave us boat people and killing fields), in the 1970s, they rose up in Iran (and installed a lunatic regime that today threatens nuclear annihilation)... in the '80s, they spoke out against nuclear weapons in the U.S. and Europe (but not against nukes in the Soviet Union), against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza (but not against Palestinian terrorism or Islam's rhetoric of genocide)" ... and so on. And today, their gift to humanity is the so-called Arab Spring - paving the way for Muslim Brotherhood takeovers in Egypt and Libya - and the Occupy Wall Street movement (the Obama jugend) laying the blame for our economic woes at the door of stockbrokers, hedge-fund managers - and Jews. Compare the media's treatment of the Tea Parties and OWS. The Tea Parties obtained permits and rallied for a few hours. The OWS rabble squatted for weeks on end. Tea Party activists picked up after themselves. The occupiers created squalor and sanitary conditions worthy of the Third World. Yet, in the media's eyes, OWS are Jeffersonian idealists, while the Tea Partiers are a crypto-fascist lynch mob. When a black Congressman claimed that prior to the House vote on ObamaCare, Tea Party demonstrators on Capitol Hill shouted the N-word 15 times at members of the Black Congressional Caucus, the MSM was all over it. (Was it true the average Tea Partier wore a white sheet under his street clothes? And are they still stringing up uppity Congressmen?) Big Journalism's Andrew Breitbart offered $100,000 to anyone who could provide a video of the alleged hate-fest. It's going on two years later, and there are still no takers, Try Googling Occupy Wall Street and anti-Semitism and see what comes up on YouTube - sneering OWS activists calling elderly Jewish counter-protesters "Hyman" and creeps carrying signs about "Jewish Zionist bankers" and the "Jew Federal Reserve System." And the MSM couldn't care less. In the October 11, 2011 Washington Post, Jennifer Rubin asked the musical question: "Occupy Wall Street: Does anyone care about the anti-Semitism?" Anyone in the establishment media? That would be no and no. Rubin quotes the publication Israel Today, which discloses :"In Los Angeles, California, protester Patricia McAllister, who identified herself as an employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District ... had this to say: 'I think the Zionist Jews, who are running these big banks and our Federal Reserve... they need to be run out of this country'" - as the first step toward a Final Solution to the Jewish banker problem? (A video of McAllister' Elders-of-Zion mutterings is also available on YouTube.) The American Communist and American Nazi Parties were united in their support for OWS. Rocky Suhayda, fuhrer of the home-grown Hitlerites, charged: "Who hold the wealth and power in this country? The Judo-Capitalists. Who therefore is the #1 enemy who makes this filth happen? The Judeo-Capitalists." Rocky forgot to mention the ritual slaughter of Christian children as leaven to make interest rates rise. Unlike charges of racism against the Tea Parties, which they eagerly pursued, the MSM was totally uninterested in substantiated charges of anti-Semitism against Occupy Wall Street. All movements are equal - but some are more equal than others. The public is wise to media manipulation. In a September 2011 Gallup survey, 55% said they have "little or no trust in the media," compared to the 44% of Americans who have a "great deal" to a "fair amount" of trust in the Fourth Estate. (This is the reverse of a similar Gallup poll taken in 1999, when 55% trusted the media and 44% didn't.) In the 2011 poll, of the 60% who believe the media is biased, 47% say they're too liberal, compared to the 13% who live on a planet in a distant galaxy, and, consequently, think the media are too conservative. In a just-released Gallup survey of "Honesty/Ethics in Professions," high marks went to nurses (84% positive), physicians (70%), police officers (54%) and clergy (52% - even after the clerical abuse scandals). By comparison, only 26% of the public think journalists are honest and ethical. On the plus side, reporters and editors were ranked above real estate agents (in whom 20% have confidence), lawyers (19%), telemarketers, car salesmen and members of Congress (8%, 7% and 7% respectively). Fortunately for the Fourth Estate, serial killers and child-molesters weren't included on the list. Media bias of the past will be nothing next to what we can expect in the most consequential election in our lifetimes. What happened in South Carolina last week will be like kisses from your high school sweetheart compared to the torrent of lies, innuendo, smears, distortions and manipulation the MSM will unleash to secure the reelection of the greatest president who simply ever was. At the 1964 GOP Nominating Convention at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, at one point, Goldwater delegates shook their fists at the press box. Gingrich's two standing ovations at Thursday evening's debate was a reprise of that glorious moment. We know who the enemy is. How could we not, when they fly their colors so openly on the masthead?

Monday, January 23, 2012 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 288 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Newt Takes South Carolina Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich convincingly won the South Carolina primary Saturday, taking 40% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was second with 28%, followed by former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum (17%) and Texas Congressman Ron Paul (13%). The race is now anyone's to win! I think it is clear from these results that conservative primary voters are looking for a "fighter" for conservative values, and Newt struck a nerve in the debates. He clearly stole the show at the last debate, refusing to be cowed by the liberal media. It's also worth noting that Gingrich won 44% of self-identified born-again/evangelical Christians and he won a plurality (38%) of female voters. That's not surprising in many ways. Gingrich and Santorum have talked extensively about religious liberty and religious persecution. Both men, but Newt especially, have made reining in rogue judges a key issue. People of faith also believe in redemption. While Gingrich acknowledges his past failures, he also says that his faith is more important to him now, and the voters of South Carolina chose to take him at his word that he is a changed man. Lastly, here's some encouraging news: There was a huge spike in participation in Saturday's primary compared to four years ago. In 2008, roughly 430,000 people voted. This weekend, more than 600,000 went to the polls despite terrible weather that included tornado watches over 18 counties. Race Down To Three Serious Candidates Iowa and New Hampshire winnowed the field from seven candidates to four. But no one is dropping out after South Carolina. Rather than anointing a front-runner, the early primary states have given each of the top three contenders a victory -- Santorum in Iowa, Romney in New Hampshire and Gingrich in South Carolina. As Rick Santorum put it, "Three states, three different winners. What a country!" In Saturday's South Carolina primary, Rick Santorum once again outpolled expectations. The RealClearPolitics.com average had Santorum running fourth at 12%. One pre-primary poll even put Santorum in single digits, with Paul pulling ahead. Yet Santorum finished well above that mark and Paul faded as more voters focused on his appeasement foreign policy. What happens next? Romney and the GOP establishment will do everything they can to stop Gingrich's momentum. Gingrich has to demonstrate that South Carolina wasn't a fluke. If the two savage one another in the days ahead, Santorum could well emerge from that battle as the conservative alternative without the "baggage" that Gingrich carries. Electability Is Subjective I know conservatives want to win in November, but I hope we don't fall for some oft-repeated myths. One of them is electability and the notion that we should support Candidate X because he/she is the most electable. Electability is a completely subjective concept. Polling data can be useful, but it is only a snapshot of what conditions are now. It tells you little about what the landscape will be in November. The GOP establishment argues that the more moderate the candidate is, the more electable they are. There is no evidence of that at all. Just ask President Dole or President McCain. A lot of pundits and the party establishment said Ronald Reagan was too extreme and unelectable. The rest is history. The conventional wisdom says that you have to get independent voters in order to win. That is true. But the media and the establishment have convinced themselves that independent voters and moderate voters are the same, and that is not true. Many independents are in fact disgruntled conservatives who left the GOP in recent years because it was not conservative enough! I believe this is going to be a brutal campaign -- one of the most vicious we have ever seen. In such campaigns, turnout often goes down because many people get disgusted and tune out. That makes turnout by the base even more important than usual, and it is essential that the base is fired up and enthusiastic about the nominee. Many political observers question whether Mitt Romney can energize the conservative base, which begs the question: Is he the most electable candidate? A serious case could be made that Santorum or Gingrich would be stronger candidates in November. Obama -- The Abortion President Today thousands of pro-life activists gathered in Washington, D.C., for the 39th Annual March for Life. Typical for this time of year, the weather is miserable -- 40s and raining. But their spirits are not dampened. I know because I had the honor of addressing the Kentucky Right to Life delegation this morning on Capitol Hill. Thirty-nine years after Roe v. Wade, their commitment to the sanctity of life is as strong as ever. And with good reason. As you can read in my latest Human Events column, we are winning the battle for hearts and minds! Yesterday, as millions of Americans observed Sanctity of Life Sunday, Barack Obama issued a statement from the White House celebrating "this historic anniversary" of Roe v. Wade and reiterating his commitment to protecting abortion-on-demand. Obama also had the audacity to suggest that our daughters can "fulfill their dreams" thanks to abortion. Most politicians know better than to adopt the label "pro-abortion." But it's hard to define Obama's remarks in any other way. How perverse is it to suggest that the ability to terminate life leads to the fulfillment of dreams? Then again, this is the same man who said he would not want his own daughters "punished with a baby." Yet, women who have experienced the anguish of abortion often speak of shattered dreams, of dreams lost and unfulfilled. They are often the most effective pro-life advocates. Obama vs. The Church Religious liberty suffered another blow Friday when the Obama Administration mandated free contraception coverage, including the abortion drug "ella." Religious groups had sought a waiver from this mandate, but the Administration refused. Instead, the Washington Post reported that they will have "a one-year delay before they must comply with the new rule." Archbishop Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, blasted the mandate and the Obama Administration's disregard for religious liberty. Here is an excerpt of his statement:
"In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences. To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable. ...The government should not force Americans to act as if pregnancy is a disease to be prevented at all costs."
I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity in this "End of Day" report to remind folks once again about why politics is so important. It is literally a matter of life and death. The men and women we elect to public office appoint and confirm the justices who sit on the Supreme Court. There are four justices on the high court who realize Roe v. Wade is terrible law. There are four justices who will fall on their sword to defend abortion-on-demand. The deciding vote, Justice Anthony Kennedy, seems to have no firm philosophical convictions. If Barack Obama gets four more years and one or two more appointments to the Supreme Court, he will tip the balance on the high court. And abortion-on-demand, not to mention a radical redefinition of marriage, will be enshrined in our laws for generations to come.

Romney Campaign Run by Charlie Crist's Political Aides
Monday, 23 Jan 2012
By Andrew Henry
As Mitt Romney puts the South Carolina primary in his rear-view mirror and hits the accelerator in a bid to win Florida, he may discover himself crashing headlong into the bitter legacy of Charlie Crist, the former Florida governor who defected from the GOP and was soundly defeated for the U.S. Senate by Marco Rubio.
Romney's "Charlie Crist" problem is this: Romney's chief campaign strategist and several of his most senior campaign staff were Crist's top political advisers - the same ones who crafted Crist's moderate, ignore-the-tea-party strategy epitomized in Crist's famous "hug" of President Barack Obama. That strategy led Crist, once the most popular Republican governor in the nation, to defeat.
Crist's erstwhile political team was led by controversial GOP strategist Stuart Stevens. Stevens and partner Russ Schriefer are the principals in the high-profile Stevens & Schriefer Group consultant firm and are playing the lead role in crafting Romney's primary and national campaign strategy.

You may have heard in the news last week about a bill, H.R. 3261, titled the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Several popular websites, including Wikipedia and Google, showed their opposition to this bill by shutting down their website for 24 hours and bringing attention to this very controversial bill.
The goal of this legislation is to prevent intellectual property theft, also known as piracy, on the internet. Many agree that online piracy is a real threat and some type of legislative solution may be needed to address this increasingly rampant cyber-crime.
However, many have expressed extreme concerns with the way SOPA, and its Senate counter-part, the Protect IP Act (PIPA), are worded. They believe that the language in these bills is too broad and could lead to government censorship of the internet and the shutting down of many legitimate and popular websites.
You can look at the wording of the bill yourself by reading the full text and the summary provided by the Library of Congress here: H.R. 3261 Summary.
As I look further into the wording of this bill, I want to know what you think. Please take my poll online to share your thoughts on this bill: Click here to participate in my poll.
As your Congressman, I believe it is my responsibility to reflect the will and the best interests of my constituents. Your input is very important to me as I review this legislation, and I thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Mike Fitzpatrick Member of Congress

Obama Defends Roe v. Wade As Way for 'Our Daughters' to Have Same Chance As Sons to 'Fulfill Their Dreams'
By Fred Lucas January 23, 2012 (CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama says the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade is the chance to recognize the "fundamental constitutional right" to abortion and to "continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams." The 1973 U.S. Supreme Court nationalized abortion law, prohibiting states from deciding on the matter. In his written statement, Obama acknowledged that abortion has been a divisive political issue. Obama, while serving in the Illinois State Legislature and as president of the United States, has taken a hard line on abortion rights. In his statement on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling, Obama said it reflects the broader principles of America.

Even if you don't mind Romneycare, or the abortion flip-flop, or any of the rest, there's a more basic problem: He's not a natural campaigner, and on the stump he instinctively recoils from any personal connection with the voters... GARY BAUER - Asked by NPR last week to assess the state of the political battle over abortion, NARAL President Nancy Keenan responded, "The bottom line here is that elections matter." Kansas slashes food aid for children of illegal immigrants
State's policy change eliminates food stamps for many U.S. citizen children of illegal immigrants.
By LAURA BAUER The Kansas City Star
Pedro moved to the Kansas City area about 13 years ago and has held the same job for 11.
Though he sometimes struggles to pay bills, he knows most people think he should receive no public aid. He's an illegal immigrant. He doesn't deserve handouts. He understands that.
"I've never asked for anything for myself," said Pedro, who didn't want his last name used to protect his family. "Never. I just work. Work hard."
A new debate swirling around Kansas, though, isn't about Pedro. It's about two of his three children. They were born here, and one day they will have driver's licenses and the right to vote, just like any other U.S. citizen.
Early last year, when they needed food assistance, they got it. Pedro's family received nearly $300 a month in food stamps. Enough to buy milk, eggs and meat, fruit and yogurt.
Now, they get nothing. Neither do hundreds of other Kansas families who, like Pedro's, are a mix of undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens.
At a time when Gov. Sam Brownback has vowed to reduce child poverty, the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services - a state agency the governor controls - made a policy change that eliminated food stamps for hundreds of low-income U.S. children whose parents are illegal immigrants. For more households, benefits were reduced.
"I have to wonder if the governor is really on board with the policy," said Sister Therese Bangert of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. "I wonder if he understands the ramifications of this policy, if he understands what's happening to the children."
The governor's office did not return several calls and email requests for comment.

Gingrich fan calls Glenn an adulterer

Newt: Glenn Beck is full of bologna
