U.S., E.U. Spearhead Islamic Bid To Criminalize Free Speech

via Stonegate Institute

The European Union has offered to host the next meeting of the so-called Istanbul Process, an aggressive effort by Muslim countries to make it an international crime to criticize Islam.

The announcement comes less than one month after the United States hosted its own Istanbul Process conference in Washington, DC.

The Istanbul Process - its explicit aim is to enshrine in international law a global ban on all critical scrutiny of Islam and/or Islamic Sharia law - is being spearheaded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a bloc of 57 Muslim countries.

Based in Saudi Arabia, the OIC has long pressed the European Union and the United States to impose limits on free speech and expression about Islam.

But the OIC has now redoubled its efforts and is engaged in a determined diplomatic offensive to persuade Western democracies to implement United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) Resolution 16/18, which calls on all countries to combat "intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of ... religion and belief." (Analysis of the OIC's war on free speech can be found here and here.)

We are now looking for volunteers to help us in Chester County, particularly in the northern and northeastern areas of the county. We need people to help get petitions signed, hand out literature in the neighborhoods, work the polls on election day, hold home meetings when Sam is in the area, and who knows what else will come up. Could you please send this out to your group to see if anyone would like to help. They can contact me directly either by email or by phone. Thanks for your help. Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

The Case Against Obamacare: Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

The Heritage Foundation recently published its extensive yearly ranking, comparing economic freedoms between nations. This year the United States placed tenth in the world. No, the U.S. is not the freest nation in the world, nor have we been for many years.

Earlier this year, our students placed near the bottom in their knowledge of math and science compared to their peers in the Western world. We are declining in our production, our knowledge, and our ability to govern our own lives free of bureaucratic force and intervention. We are saddled with a dangerous level of government spending and debt, yet politicians seem unable to address these escalating problems.

Our founding fathers warned us that if we were not attentive to the actions of our government, we would not be able to keep the promise of freedom and liberty the Constitution was meant to protect. The phrase "freedom isn't free" means we each must invest some of your personal time to keep these freedoms we take for granted.

Most people feel the politicians are untouchable and there is nothing they can do. This feeling is not based in fact.

It is going to take organized political action, not rallies and demonstrations, to change the direction and the largess of big government. This infrastructure is already in place; there is no need to start from scratch.

Voters elect representation in their political parties in almost every precinct in America. You can run to be a neighborhood official in your local political party and play a role in the governance of your party. These local elected party organizations are responsible for getting good candidates elected to office and keeping them accountable.

This spring you will have two slots on your ballot that say "local committee." Many of you will be looking at blank slots. Anyone registered in the political party can run for these local neighborhood positions.

This is not the time in history to say, "I am too busy to protect the future for my children and grandchildren." Please join us now by picking up a nomination petition at the Voter Registration office the week of Jan. 24 and run for a position on your local county committee.

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For January 16, 2012

1. The Evangelical Vote

I had the privilege to attend the meeting of evangelicals in Texas this weekend. Due to pressing matters before me Saturday I could not make the Saturday portion, but was there Friday hearing the advocacy for the candidates, the run down, etc. I did not vote.

As with all meetings of Christian conservatives, we all pledge to have an off the record meeting and a handful of the sinners start leaking like sieves. It is aggravating and typically why I never say a word in these meetings.

Since a few have decided to leak so many details from the meeting as background and anonymous sources, I want to clarify a few things from my perspective and I will do it decidedly on the record.

The first thing you need to know is that taking shots at Tony Perkins for his statements this weekend is both ignorant and wrong. Tony was selected to speak for the group as a whole and he has done a tremendous job reflecting the views of the consensus whether they are his or not. He didn't really volunteer as much as he was chosen (I cannot have been the only Presbyterian there) and he has done his job ably.

The second thing you should note is that I personally view the state of the Christian conservative movement poorly. It is such an honor and privilege to be in the same room with James Dobson. Truth be told, I've been in the room with him several times and have yet to work up the courage to meet a man who has meant so much to my wife and me. Hopefully I'll work up the courage one of these days.

But Dobson and the other men and women in the room exemplify my problem with the state of the Christian conservative movement - it is getting really old and I do not yet see authentic, strong voices rising up to succeed these pioneers. I take it as a good sign that these men picked Tony Perkins as their spokesman. In the generation that bridges the gap, Perkins is one of the few honest brokers and genuinely authentic good guys in the evangelical community and conservative movement as a whole.

A great deal of the passionate, younger voices of the Christian conservative movement are focused on Christ and not politics. While that's a far better position to focus on, I fear the Christian conservative movement is going to be handed down to a few good young men and women surrounded by others with less sincere intentions - people who advocate people and positions in furtherance of things other than Christ's Kingdom. The up and comers will have to rely on men like Tony Perkins to avoid irrelevance and charlatans both.

The third thing you should know about this weekend is just how well the Gingrich and Santorum camps handled themselves and how poorly the Perry and Romney camps handled themselves. I won't even get into the advocacy on behalf of Ron Paul, which didn't go well.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

2. The Great White Unknown

It is one of my overarching concerns with the myth of Mitt the Electable - Bain Capital and Romney's time in the private sector. Byron York sums it up here.

"There's no basis to reflexively defend Romney's record, because we don't know in any real detail what he did at Bain. But there's no basis to indict him, either, for the same reason."

There are seemingly two caricatures of candidates that play badly with the American people. One is the evangelical preacher out to save the world. The politician as tent revival preacher is a long caricatured American political staple going back to the ninetieth century and William Jennings Bryant among others.

The other caricature is that of the millionaire tycoon out to buy the election. This has been a staple of American politics since the turn of the 20th century and passage of the first campaign finance laws. Historically, neither caricature is popular or successful on the national stage.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. The Non-Producers

Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom were pikers compared to the Government's "Green Energy" schemes.

Bialystock and Bloom plotted to make millions with a guaranteed Broadway flop. Against all odds, Springtime for Hitler became a runaway hit, and The Producers went to jail.

But at least Mssrs. Bialystock and Bloom produced something of value - a hit musical.

Our Green Initiative produces flop after flop, but precious little energy. Instead of throwing the perpetrators in the hoosegow, we keep reelecting them.

Case #1, reported by John Hayward at Human Events: Solyndra Wants to Pay Six-Figure Employees Huge Bonuses.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

4. Can a Nonexistent Congress Issue $1.2 Trillion in Debt?

Pursuant to the Budget Control Act, brought to you by the GOP leadership's sellout, Obama notified Congress yesterday that the federal debt is approaching the statutory ceiling of $15.194 trillion. [The actual total debt is already $15.237 trillion, but a small amount is not subject to the limit.] As such, he is calling on Congress to grant him another $1.2 trillion in debt, conveniently enough to last him until after the election, with the possibility of saddling his successor with a tough decision over yet another debt limit increase. It is really more of a notification than a request. Obama will automatically receive his $1.2 trillion supercharged credit card unless two-thirds of Congress votes to disapprove of the request within 15 days.

In just three years, he has accrued $4.6 trillion in debt, more than Bush amassed during his entire eight-year tenure. Now he will add another $1.2 trillion by the end of his first term, and, thanks to the horrendous budget deal, which was cheered on by the same outlets that are now fawning over Mitt Romney, there's nothing we can do about it.

But here's the question: If Congress is in recess and cannot fulfill its responsibility to advice and consent, as the President has suggested, how can Obama fulfill his obligation of submitting a certification to Congress?

Morning Bell: Life-Changing Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp once said, "We need an anti-poverty agenda based on democratic capitalism, not socialism and on private ownership, not government control. Our definition of compassion is not how many people live on the government welfare plantation, but how many of our people are liberated from government dependence."

Among those ranks of individuals who are carrying out Dr. King's vision are three young men-Curtis Monroe, Michael Toland, and Roger Marshall-who give their time, talents, and earnings from their day jobs serving as coaches and mentors of at-risk youths in the Benning Terrace public housing development in Washington, D.C.

The investment by this trio of volunteers is, in fact, an act of longstanding gratitude and reciprocity.

Out of Options in Egypt

Back during the early days of the Tahrir Square protests I wrote, "59 percent of Egyptian Muslims want democracy and 95 percent want Islam to play a large part in politics. 84 percent believe apostates should face the death penalty. That is what Egyptian democracy will look like. A unanimous majority that wants an Islamic state and a bare majority that wants democracy. Which one do you think will win out? A democratic majority of the country supports murdering people in the name of Islam. Mubarak's government does not execute apostates or adulterers. But a democratic Egypt will. Why? Because it's the will of the people."

Here we are almost a year later and we have gotten the democratic Egypt that anyone who understood the realities of the region should have expected. An Egyptian parliament divided between the Salafists and the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a country divided between the Islamists who want to chop off heads now and the Islamists who think that it's wiser to consolidate their power before chopping off heads.

The purpose of this article is not to berate the leftists and leftover neo-conservatives who supported the overthrow of Mubarak in the name of democracy. It's a waste of breath and time. Ideologues who are committed to an ideology that explains the world in a way that seems moral and right do not stop what they are doing just because the consequences are disastrous.

Now they want us to intervene in Syria. Who else wants us to intervene in Syria? The Emir of Qatar, better known as the man behind Al Jazeera, which pushed the whole Arab Spring lie into an international myth to overthrow non-Islamist regimes across the region. The Emir is tipping his hand a little transparently by calling for troops to invade Syria instead of sitting back and letting his Al-Jazeera propagandists do the hard work of selling the West on an independent democracy movement, but the pro-democracy crowd isn't paying attention.

They didn't pay attention no matter how many times they were told that the Muslim Brotherhood was the dominant force behind the "pro-democracy uprising" and that they would be the beneficiaries if Mubarak were overthrown. It was all just noise to them. Democracy would conquer all and the same Twitter activists they were so chummy with would write the new constitution.

Equal benefits, equal responsibilities

By DANNY AYALON, Deputy Foreign Minister, Israel Beiteinu.

Netanyahu's idea of free education for those three and four-year-olds is one that in principle Israel Beiteinu supports. However, as always, the devil is in the details.

During his inaugural address in 1961, US president John F. Kennedy spoke the immortal words: "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."

While this quotation is widely used and sourced, few truly understand the significance of these words.

During Britain's general election in 2010, the then-opposition Conservative Party created a flagship policy idea called the "Big Society" that became the theme for its successful election campaign.

One of its central thrusts was to encourage people to play a role in their community and their country, to contribute to the state, rather than just benefit from it.

These ideas have in common the idea of contributing to one's society by transforming one's surroundings...

 Stop playing defense

By Ted Belman

When is Israel going to wise up? Israel's preferred policy is to play defense and make as few waves as possible.

Whether its Obama insisting on a building freeze, or negotiations based on '67 lines with swaps or the EU encouraging the Arabs to violate the Oslo Accords and build in Area C, Israel is always reacting. Thus when we wait to be diplomatically attacked we end up fighting on our own territory.

It used to be that we had a policy of fighting on the other guys territory which means pre-emptive action.

In diplomatic terms this means claiming ownership of the other guys territory or at least what he thinks is his, and building on it. Let the other guys, the Arabs, the EU and the US play defense.

For example if we claimed sovereignty over Area C, our enemies would be concerned with undermining such contention. As it is we have conceded too much territory in negotiations and we are debating over whether we get to keep 1% or 6. This is madness and...

To be considered Pro-Israel you must support her, not condemn her

By Ted Belman

I usually agree with Evelyn Gordon but not now in her Commentary article, What Does it Mean to be Pro-Israel?. I disagree with her points on peace. She writes,

Moment magazine's latest issue has an interesting symposium on what it means to be pro-Israel today.

I found Hillel Halkin's definition particularly helpful. But I'd like to add one thing to his list. Clearly, it's okay to criticize any particular Israeli policy; Israelis do it all the time. But those with influence in the Jewish community, like rabbis or officials of Jewish organizations, also have an obligation to try to understand - and explain to his community - why Israelis might view the issue differently.

For instance, it's perfectly acceptable to argue that Israel should withdraw to the 1949 armistice lines, or unilaterally evacuate West Bank settlements; I disagree with both positions, but they don't make you anti-Israel.

I would argue that they might and invariably do....

Comprehending the incomprehensible - Part I

By MARTIN SHERMAN, JPOST

Into The Fray: The first of a two-part analysis of why Israel is losing the international battle for hearts and minds.

Israel has made itself defenseless. Israel has vacated the battleground of the mind. Israeli 'hasbara' is a JOKE! -
British columnist Melanie Phillips, IBA Television, 2011

One of the gravest strategic threats facing Israel is its accelerating international delegitimization. This is developing into a strategic constraint that is increasingly curtailing the nation's ability to protect itself and its citizens. Even more troubling, it is undermining international recognition of Israel's right to exercise self-defense, even in the most blatant cases of aggression against it.

Strategic debacle
Without wishing to diminish the significance of innate hostility towards Israel and the Jews from many sources in the international system, the present dismal and untenable situation has arisen in large measure because of the abysmal...

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Out of Line

A LITTLE URINE WASHES OUT

In case you haven't heard some US soldiers might have urinated on dead Taliban fighters. Hopefully they did it facing in the direction away from Mecca, as American soldiers have been ordered to do to avoid offending Muslims, and that the dead Taliban didn't have Korans in their pockets at the time or it'll be a holy war. Oh wait it already is a holy war.

McCain, fresh from being saddened by the Communist attacks on Bain Capital, announced that he was saddened by the video and wanted the marines punished. Because having trials and routing that sort of thing through a military justice system rather than through the fiat of sad senators isn't how we do things anymore.

Good news though, the Taliban have announced that the video will not prevent them from accepting our surrender anyway.

Noted kleptomaniac and humanitarian Hamid Karzai denounced the video as "completely inhumane." Speaking of "Completely inhumane", there's Karzai's buddy Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf. Abdul is the head of the Islamic Union who was a pal of Osama bin Laden and a mentor to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Here's some of his very "humane" handiwork. During the Afshar massacre, Sayyaf's Wahhabis, with Saudi funding, massacred Shiite men,  women and children. But that is humane. Unlike urinating on a dead Taliban.

The Taliban have also denounced it as inhumane.

The Taliban initially indicated that the video would not undermine the push toward talks, saying that they saw it as just more evidence of what they said was American brutality and arrogance.

"We strongly condemn the inhuman act of wild American soldiers, as ever, and consider this act in contradiction with all human and ethical norms,"

But let's hear it from the Taliban what they consider "humane" behavior.

Obama czar proposed government should 'infiltrate' social network sites, chat rooms, message boards.      Just prior to his appointment as President Obama's so-called regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein wrote a lengthy academic paper suggesting the government should "infiltrate" social network websites, chat rooms and message boards.

Such "cognitive infiltration," Sunstein argued, should be used to enforce a U.S. government ban on "conspiracy theorizing."

Obama to 'take on' Netanyahu after election? Palestinians say White House asked them to delay demands till 2nd term.      The Obama administration asked the Palestinian Authority not to make any major demands until after the presidential election in November, a senior PA official told KleinOnline.

The PA official, speaking on condition his name be withheld, said that Obama promised to renew stalled Israeli-Palestinian negotiations on the basis of the 1967 borders, meaning an Israeli withdrawal from eastern sections of Jerusalem as well as from Judea and Samaria, also referred to as the West Bank.

"We were asked by the (U.S.) administration not to make special demands or scandals during the elections," said the official.

Is this how Obama win will be guaranteed? Group with ties to president engaged in massive 3rd party drive.

By Aaron Klein

A mysteriously funded, highly organized effort to secure the ballot for a third party candidate in this year's election has ties to President Obama and top Democrats, KleinOnline has learned.

The group, calling itself Americans Elect, or AE, seems designed to appear like a massive, grassroots effort involving millions of citizens acting to draft a third party candidate.

However, the organization's voting process has been called into question while there are concerns AE's bylaws may allow the group's own board members to bypass votes and nominate their own candidate.

AE describes itself as "a non-partisan, non-profit organization founded by Americans from across the political spectrum who are worried that our nation's deep political divisions keep big problems from being solved."

Exposing Kinsey sex atrocities goes global

Alfred Kinsey's belief in child sexuality, with all of its impacts on children and society, now circles the globe, but a campaign to reveal the truth about his efforts to legitimize pedophilia is following right behind.

Judith Reisman, a visiting professor of law at Liberty University, popular lecturer and former consultant to four U.S. Department of Justice administrations, recently concluded a trip in which she delivered seminars on the fallacies of Kinsey's arguments in Rome, Ireland and London.

A new quo warranto lawsuit has been filed in Washington over Barack Obama's presidential eligibility, but unlike similar challenges brought by noted attorneys since before Obama was elected, this one is by a contender for the presidency.

A quo warranto action, which dates back nearly 1,000 years in Western civilization, is a challenge to an official to document on what basis he or she holds the office.

YouTubers punish Girl Scout for her beliefs

The online video-sharing website YouTube can be a cruel place for young people, especially for teenagers who dare to criticize homosexuality.

WND reported in 2009 the story of 12-year-old ChristianU2uber, whose video arguing same-sex marriage is morally wrong resulted in a stream of responses that called him a "fag in denial" and suggested he "kill Christianity, and then kill yourself."

The response was so vicious, WND reported, that Internet crime specialists in Texas tracked down the boy and his family and persuaded ChristianU2uber to remove the videos and receive counseling. Now, another teenager, this time a 14-year-old from Ventura County, Calif., named Taylor (last name withheld), has been forced off the site by the cruelty she faced for protesting the admission of transgender boys into the Girl Scouts.

The Orange County Register

Mark Steyn: Ron Paul beckons GOP to Fortress America

In the 2010 election the New Hampshire Republican Party took 298 out of 400 House seats, 19 out of 24 state Senate seats, and all five seats on the Executive Council. A little over a year later, in the state's presidential primary, the same (more or less) electorate gave over 56 percent of its votes to a couple of moneyed "moderates," one of whom served in the Obama administration and the other of whom left no trace in office other than the pilot program for Obamacare. Another 23 percent voted for Ron Paul. Supporters of the three other "major" candidates in the race argue that, if only the other two fellows would clear off, a viable conservative alternative to Mitt Romney would emerge. In fact, even if you combine Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum's share of the vote, it adds up to a mere 19.5 percent: Were Bain Capital to come in and restructure the "conservative" candidates into one streamlined and efficient Newt Perrtorum, this unstoppable force would be competitive with Jon Huntsman.

According to George Mason University's annual survey of Freedom in the 50 States, New Hampshire is the freest state in the union, so one would expect there to be takers for Ron Paul's message. On the other hand, facing a very different electorate in Iowa, Paul pulled pretty much an identical share of the poll. It may be time for those of us on the right to consider whether it's not so much the conservative vote that's split but whether conservativism itself is fracturing.

With Iran, Obama is in WAY Over his Head

By Craig Andresen on January 15, 2012

Whatever is happening inside Iran, one thing is clear.

Crystal clear.

That is, that whatever is happening inside Iran is completely unclear.

Over the last few weeks, Iran has threatened to shut down the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. has said, OH NO YOU WON'T.

Sanctions have been put in place. More sanctions have been threatened.

Iran has said THEY have started the process of enriching uranium in an underground facility.

Ahmadinejad has been making smiles and nice with Chavez and Castro.

Behind the scenes, we hear reports that Obama and his administration is trying to tell Israel NOT to attack Iran.

We hear reports that Obama and his administration has told China that "we can't hold Israel off" forever.

Iran is apparently holding and has sentenced to death an American with dual Iranian citizenship because the so called spy was visiting his grandmother yet Iran claims a nuke scientist who was killed in a car bombing was assassinated by the CIA...or Israel...or somebody.

Salute to Tim Tebow

By Craig Andresen on January 12, 2012

In a world that has become increasingly more negative, at a time when more and more people feel entitled to something because others have what they don't, it's hard to find a shining light at center stage.

There are so few solid role models out there for kids to look up to and far too few for parents to point out.

Today, The National Patriot salutes a role model.

Tim Tebow.

You don't need to be a Bronco's fan. I'm not. All you need to be is human.

You don't need to wear your faith on your sleeve either.

All you need is faith.

Tebow has been vilified in a way because he DOES wear his faith on his sleeve and some simply don't like that.

Too bad.

Chicago rules, "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?"

Jan 15, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

A hysterically funny Email making the rounds is called Chicago Rules and would make me laugh if I didn't want to cry first.  "The guy on the left: He's Santa Claus. And the guy on the right. . he's the Easter Bunny! That's all you need to know" introduces the Barack Obama quote denying any close contact with disgraced and soon to be jailed former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.         According to the Email, Obama is alleged to have only acknowledged seeing the former governor from a distance in the stands at a Chicago Bears football game.  The Chicago Rules Email shows a Reuters photo of Mayor Richard Daley, Rod Blagojevich, and Barack Obama during a Chicago rally dated April 16, 2007.  Trying to get these pictures to reload was impossible, but I was able to locate a photo of the three men.  Blago was the only man with his eyes open; all three men ... American Minute January 14

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Albert Schweitzer was born JANUARY 14, 1875, in a village in Alsace, Germany. A Lutheran pastor's son and acclaimed for playing the organ, he earned doctorates in philosophy and theology, was pastor of St. Nicholai's Church, principal of St. Thomas College, and professor at University of Strasbourg. Then, at age 30, he read a Paris Missionary Society article on the desperate need for physicians in Africa. To everyone's dismay, he enrolled in medical school and became a medical missionary, founding a hospital in the jungle village of Lambarene, Gabon, west central Africa. A friend of Albert Einstein, Albert Schweitzer won the Nobel Peace Prize and used the prize money to build a leper colony. He visited the United States in 1949 and his daughter married an American doctor volunteering at the hospital. Overcoming innumerable difficulties, Dr. Albert Schweitzer wrote: "One day, in my despair, I threw myself into a chair in the consulting ... Continue Reading:American Minute January 14

Three Days In August: A U.S. Army Special Forces Soldier's Fight for Military Justice

Jan 14, 2012 02:13 pm | Coach Collins

By Bob McCarty, staff writer

A U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret, Sgt. 1st Class Kelly A. Stewart admitted to having a one-night stand with a 28-year-old German woman the night of August 22, 2008.

She did, too.  Both knew sex was part of the plan when they left the discotheque near Stuttgart.  A few months later, however, her story changed and the highly-decorated combat veteran found himself facing rape and kidnapping charges.

During court-martial proceedings that took place during three days in August 2009, the Green Beret faced an all-male Army court-martial panel comprised of both officers and enlisted soldiers who had recently returned from a 16-month deployment with the Army attorney serving as the lead prosecutor.

It took only two days for the panel to find the Green Beret guilty of numerous offenses - including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, forcible sodomy and assault and battery - and another day for them to sentence him to ...  Iran preparing for war

Jan 14, 2012 05:13 am | Coach Collins

by Jim Emerson,  staff writer

Last May, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the Revolutionary Guards to rapidly increase the development and deployment of its nuclear weapons program. Recently the Washington Times has reported that the Supreme Leader ordered the Guards to be prepared for war against Israel and the United States. The Iranian regimes' National Security Council has determined that there is a strong possibility that Israel and the United States will attack the Islamic Republic in 2012. Yet the Council isn't worried, believing that the Republic will be victorious and viewed as the champion of Islam. (1)

Nuclear Agenda

The Islamic Republic planned to acquire a cache of nuclear weapons and use them in order to gain respect and spread Islam around the world.  Indeed, Iran would have no compunction about using the bomb to "Bring the West to its knees." (1)  Washington Times' reporter Reza Kahlili points out; "They also have concluded that ... Continue Reading:Iran preparing for war

By Bill Federer, staff writer

Educated at Oxford, James Oglethorpe joined the Austrian army at age 17 and helped free Belgrade from Muslim Turks. Returning to England, he unintentionally killed a man in a brawl and went to prison. Upon release, he followed his father's footsteps and served in Parliament. He opposed slavery and, as a result of a friend dying in debtors' prison, decided to found a colony for debtors and religious refugees to start anew. He secured Georgia's Charter, named for King George II, and on JANUARY 13, 1733, his ship "Ann" arrived with 115 settlers. Minister Herbert Henry offered prayer at the ship's arrival. A year later, Salzburgers Protestant refugees from Austria settled the town of Ebenezer, Huguenot Protestant refugees came from France, and Moravian missionaries arrived from Bohemia. In 1735, John Wesley became the colony's Anglican minister, and his brother, Charles Wesley served as James Oglethorpe's secretary. Georgia's original Charter, 1732, stated: "There ... Sanctuary City Camden, a Democrat Wild Kingdom wants us to clean up its mess, no thanks go ask Obama

You might not be familiar with Camden New Jersey if you speak and read English, but it is a magnet for illegal aliens. The little city across the Delaware River from Philadelphia is a smoldering sink hole that serves as a monument the failures of Democrat control of a government.  Its people are such lazy "users" of services that only 19% even bother to vote (Democrat of course).

Republicans have probably never governed.  It has been a festering sore on the body of New Jersey's Democrat politics for years and serves as proof of the phony paternalism of the "Party of the little guy."

Now swimming in its own blood, Camden which has a crime rate more than FIVE TIMES the national average wants New Jersey's Governor Chris Christie, who is dealing with an inherited $10.5 billion deficit,  to send in the State's    National Guard to protect Camden from itself. ... Although, because all that will read this live in a community, somewhere, which has something in common with the community everyone else lives in, it could be considered a national, small "n", issue.

How many of us have heard our local officials complain that without tax increases, or some other new form of revenue wrung out of the citizens, they would be forced, (FORCED!) to layoff Police and Firefighters?

These fear tactics have been used over the years to extort more and more money from the private sector, to benefit overpaid, redundant, mostly union Super-citizens called "Public Sector Workers."

I, for one, am tired of it. I have put my mind to this problem, and, my mind being what it is, have come up with a ... Continue Reading:End the Discrimination Against the Police and Firefighters!

Only if the election becomes an afterthought can Obama win it

Jan 12, 2012 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

by Doug Book,  staff writer

There is the account of a man who fell from the roof of a 10 story building. As he passed their windows on the way down, people on each floor heard him exclaim, "well...so far, so good."

As the election approaches, Barack Hussein Obama might also be saying to himself  "so far, so good." But don't count on it.

For any way you look at it, Obama's fortunes are plummeting just as surely as the man from the roof. Sure, he diverted countless tax dollars to labor unions and favored corporations, receiving in return his "cut" in campaign contributions. He successfully maneuvered ObamaCare through a Democrat-packed congress, ensuring the universal dependency of 300 million people upon the government for goodness knows how many decades to come. And there is nothing the left enjoys more than prospective voters dependent upon Big Brother, first for their living and now for their very ... Keeping with the big government mentality, various federal agencies are creating thousands of positions to meet the goals set by a new Obama initiative to find jobs for "low-income and disconnected youth." Will Republicans Commit Romney-cide?

Since 1976, every time the GOP has run a RINO for president, the party has suffered an ignominious defeat - against a peanut farmer in '76, a serial lecher in '92 and a Marxist in 2008. DNC boss falsely claims she would 'never politicize' Tucson shooting

After blaming the Tea Party for the Tucson shooting that left Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) had the gall to falsely claim she "would never politicize" the tragic event.

Additionally, she maintains that a demand for an apology from RNC Chairman Reince Priebus constitutes a "lack of civility."

Tina Korbe of Hot Air wrote:

Yesterday, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz revived an old meme. At the traditional New Hampshire "Politics and Eggs" breakfast, DWS suggested that the "edginess and ... lack of civility" of Tea Party rhetoric is somehow related to last year's tragic shooting of her close friend, Rep. Gabby Giffords, in Tucson.

It's questionable as to whether Tea Party rhetoric is characterized by "edginess" and a "lack of civility" - but, even if it is, the Tucson shooter was a loner with no apparent partisan agenda. DWS' comments were uncalled for and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus would have none of it.

New:

H.R. 3766: Jeremy Bell Act of 2011

Sponsor: Fitzpatrick (R - PA)

Official Title: A bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to provide penalties with respect to employers' conduct relating to persons engaging in sexual conduct with children, and for other purposes.

Status:
12/23/2011: Introduced in House
12/23/2011: Referred to House Education and the Workforce Committee
12/23/2011: Referred to House Judiciary Committee

Commentary: This bill creates a new criminal offense for employers. The bill would penalize an employer who transfers an employee to a location out of state if the employer "knows" that the transferring employee engaged in sexual conduct with a minor. There is no clear intent language, now is there an explanation as to the definition of "employer" in this context. A violation would be punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine under Title 18, U.S. Code.

H.R. 3738: [No Title]

Sponsor: Fitzpatrick (R - PA)

Official Title: A bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to increase from 1 to 2 years the post employment restrictions on Members of the House of Representatives.

Status:
12/20/2011: Introduced in House
12/20/2011: Referred to House Judiciary Committee

Commentary: This bill would subject members of the House of Representatives to the same post-employment restrictions as their colleagues in the Senate. Currently, former House Members face only a one-year prohibition for lobbying to members, officers, or employees of Congress, while former Senators must wait two years. This bill would make members of both Congressional chambers subject to the two-year lobbying restriction. A violation is punishable by up to 1 year imprisonment and a fine under Title 18, U.S. Code.

H.R. 3735: Medicare Fraud Enforcement and Prevention Act of 2011

Sponsor: Ros-Lehtinen (R - FL)

Official Title: A bill to provide for enhanced penalties to combat Medicare and Medicaid fraud, a Medicare data-mining system and biometric technology pilot program, and for other purposes.

Status:
12/19/2011: Introduced in House
12/19/2011: Referred to House Energy and Commerce Committee
12/19/2011: Referred to House Ways and Means Committee

Commentary: This bill would increase the penalties for federal health care fraud. The penalties regarding false statements would be doubled for both maximum prison terms and maximum fines. Additionally, the bill would create an offense for "knowingly, intentionally, and with the intent to defraud" deals in two or more Medicare or Medicaid beneficiary identification numbers or billing privileges. A violation of this would be punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine under Title 18, U.S. Code.

H.R. 3704: Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act

Sponsor: Ackerman (D - NY)

Official Title: A bill to amend the Humane Methods of Livestock Slaughter Act of 1958 to ensure the humane slaughter of nonambulatory livestock, and for other purposes.

Status:
12/16/2011: Introduced in House
12/16/2011: Referred to House Agriculture Committee

Commentary: This bill would create several criminal offenses regarding the euthanasia, movement, testing, and inspection of nonambulatory livestock. The bill would require that when a stockyard, market agency, dealer, packer or slaughterhouse discovers livestock "that will not stand and walk unassisted," the animal must be "immediately humanely euthanize[d]." Disease testing may be done so long as the animal is euthanized immediately afterward. Covered entities would also not be permitted to move nonambulatory livestock except for testing, so long as the animal is unconscious when doing so. The bill would also prohibit inspectors from passing nonamulatory livestock or their carcass or parts of carcass through inspection. No criminal intent terms are used for any of the offenses. Furthermore, one provision opens the door for regulatory criminalization by the Secretary of Agriculture. A violation of any provision of this bill would be punishable by up to one year imprisonment and a $5,000 fine.

H.R. 3687: Mine Safety Accountability and Improved Protection Act

Sponsor: Capito (D - WV)

Official Title: A bill to honor the nation's fallen miners by requiring improved mine safety practices and compliance in order to prevent future mine accidents.

Status:
12/16/2011: Introduced in House
12/16/2011: Referred to House Budget Committee
12/16/2011: Referred to House Education and the Workforce Committee

Commentary: This bill would increase fines and create new offenses relating to mining safety. A violation of health and safety regulations, not only the standards in the Act, could be criminally punishable. Some exceptions to the offense would be eliminated, and any authorization or order of "any policy or practice that contributed to the occurrence of a fatality" could be a criminal act resulting in imprisonment as outlined in the statute. Notably, however, the criminal intent terms increased protection by changing "knowingly" to "willfully." The bill would also establish a new criminal offense for "willfully" retaliating against an individual who has informed authorities of a health of safety concern. A violation would be punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine under Title 18, U.S. Code. Additionally, this bill would also create an offense for those who "willfully" give, attempt to give, or cause the advance notice of an inspection required under this Act. A violation would be punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine under Title 18. The bill would also increase the criminal fine from $500,000 to $1,000,000 for "willful" violations of a health or safety standard, and the "knowing[]" violation, failure, or refusal to comply with an order. The criminal fine for statements would also increase, from $10,000 to $50,000.

H.R. 3674: Promoting and Enhancing Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Effectiveness Act of 2011 (PRECISE Act)

Sponsor: Lungren (R - CA)

Official Title: A bill to amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to make certain improvements in the laws relating to cybersecurity, and for other purposes.

Status:
12/15/2011: Introduced in House
12/15/2011: Referred to House Homeland Security Committee
12/15/2011: Referred to House Judiciary Committee
12/15/2011: Referred to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee
12/15/2011: Referred to House Science, Space and Technology Committee
12/15/2011: Referred to House Select Intelligence Committee

Commentary: This bill, creating a large government infrastructure to face cybersecurity threats, also establishes a new criminal offense. Part of this comprehensive legislation includes the National Information Sharing Organization, which is charged with connecting government, companies, and individuals (members) in order to share information about cybersecurity threats. Some of the information passed will be confidential. It is unlawful for an individual associated with the organization, including government and member employees, to "knowingly publish, divulge, disclose, or make known in any manner or to any extent not authorized by law, any cyber threat information protected from disclosure by this title" any information that they learned by virtue of their connection to the Sharing Organization. A violation of this would be punishable by up to one year imprisonment and a fine under Title 18, U.S. Code, and will also be removed from their position or employment.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 298 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Barack Obama: The Six Trillion Dollar President

Yesterday, Barack Obama asked Congress for another $1.2 trillion increase in the national debt. And just how long will that last Mr. Obama? According to CBS News, "Treasury experts expect it to meet U.S. government borrowing needs through the remainder of 2012."

That means Obama is borrowing $100 billion EVERY month! For comparison, the deficit for 2007 -- the entire year -- was approximately $160 billion.

Our friends at CNSNews.com note that Obama is "on a pace to increase the national debt by $6.2 trillion by the end of his term on Jan. 20, 2013, according to the debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury. That $6.2 trillion is more debt than was accumulated by all U.S. presidents from George Washington through Bill Clinton combined."

For comparison, when George W. Bush took office, the national debt was $5.7 trillion and increased to $10.6 trillion by the time he left office. That's $5 trillion in eight years, which then-Senator Obama condemned in 2008 as "unpatriotic." How does one describe increasing the national debt by $6 trillion in four years?

Remember this when you go to the polls in 298 days. America cannot afford another four more years of Barack Obama!

Washington Has A Rat Problem

It probably won't surprise you to hear that Washington, D.C., has a problem with rats. But in this case I really do mean rodents. City officials have been alarmed by the exploding rat population. And I am pleased to report they are finally taking action now that they have identified the source of the problem: The Occupy DC encampment. (Seriously, folks, I'm not making this up!)

Consider this excerpt from the Washington Post:

"The rat population around the two Occupy D.C. camps at McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza has 'exploded' since protesters began their vigil in October, according to Mohammad N. Akhter, the director of the District's Department of Health. Akhter said in an interview Monday that city health inspectors have seen rats running openly through both camps and spotted numerous new burrows and nests underneath hay-stuffed pallets occupiers are using for beds."

Yesterday, Mayor Vincent Gray asked the National Park Service to evict the protestors from one of their camps, but the Park Service has been unresponsive to the mayor's previous requests.

West To Pundits & Armchair Quarterbacks: "Shut Your Mouth"

No doubt you have heard about the latest "Abu Ghraib" incident -- a video of Marines allegedly urinating on the bodies of Afghan terrorists. Our media and political elites have offered their effusive apologies. As always, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) had some choice words of his own. Here is West's statement, courtesy of our friends at The Weekly Standard:

"I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah. All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

"The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

"As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell."

I suspect Rep. West speaks for many Americans.

"Hi, I'm From The Government, And I'm Here To Help"

Ronald Reagan once described that phrase as "the ten most dangerous words in the English language." This week brought us two more examples of Big Government run amok.

On Monday the New York Times reported that some oil companies are facing millions of dollars in fines for failing "to mix a special type of biofuel into their gasoline and diesel as required by law." But this isn't a case of Big Oil getting fined for doing something nefarious.

As the Times states, "the ingredient, cellulosic biofuel, does not exist. ...Penalizing the fuel suppliers demonstrates what happens when the federal government really, really wants something that technology is not ready to provide." The Times also notes that one company that received more than $150 million in government grants to produce biofuels closed down last year "because it ran into technological problems." Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Not surprisingly, the second instance also involves the radical environmental movement and its efforts to undermine private property rights. The Supreme Court heard arguments this week in a dramatic case involving Mike and Chantell Sackett, an Idaho couple who have been trying to build a home on a lot they purchased in 2005.

In 2007 the Sacketts began construction, but the EPA stopped them, claiming the area was a protected wetland. The couple is facing fines of -- you better sit down for this -- $37,500 a day!

While it is difficult to predict the outcome of cases based on oral arguments, several justices appeared stunned by the EPA's actions against the Sacketts. Justice Scalia accused the EPA of "high-handedness." Even Justice Breyer, one of the court's liberal members, seemed skeptical of the EPA's position. Justice Alito rhetorically asked the government's attorney, "Don't you think most ordinary homeowners would say this kind of thing can't happen in the United States?"

Ever since Barack Obama got elected promising to "fundamentally transform" America, many ordinary people have been frequently asking that very question!

Optimistic Poll Data

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 03:50 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

We are awash in poll data these days, but two recent surveys, both offering grounds for optimism, are worth singling out. The first is a Reuters-Ipsos poll released earlier today that finds Mitt Romney with a 21-point lead in South Carolina. Reuters-Ipsos has Romney at 37%, with Ron Paul and Rick Santorum at 16% each. Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry bring up the rear-well, except for Jon Huntsman-with 12% and 6% respectively. If this survey is at all predictive, Republican voters are not responding positively to Gingrich's and Perry's attacks on Romney's work in the private sector. That's a good thing, in my opinion, regardless of whether Romney is your candidate.

The second finding is from Rasmussen Reports, a matchup between President Obama and Ron Paul among likely voters. I find it remarkable that Obama leads Paul only 43-37%. Paul is a candidate with strong but limited appeal, sort of like anchovies on pizza. It is extraordinary that an incumbent president can't get more than 43% of likely voters to back him against Paul, who is widely regarded as a fringe candidate. This strikes me as evidence of strong resistance to Obama among most voters.

Pundits generally say that Obama can be re-elected if the economy improves between now and November. Perhaps so; an improving economy obviously will help him some. My own view, however, is that disapproval of Obama is more deep-seated than that. Most voters who have been disappointed, if not appalled, by the Obama administration are not going to forget the last three years merely because of modest uptick in the economy. That's my hope, anyway.

O Governor, where art thou?

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 02:56 PM PST

(Scott Johnson)

I've been wondering what rationale Haley Barbour could possibly have had for the blizzard of pardons he issued on his way out of office. Now that he has explained, in an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News, I've gone from mystification to anger.

Governor Barbour explains that most of those pardoned had already been released from prison. What about the remaining 26 pardons and the pardons of murderers still incarcerated? Governor Barbour invokes gubernatorial tradition as well as his and his constituents' Christian faith to account for these pardons. Relevant details are spelled out in this article and to some extent they comport with the governor's explanation. However, I don't think the Christian rationale invoked by Governor Barbour to support the pardons cuts it, though I leave it to Christians to comment on his understanding of Christianity.

Steve Hayward asked: What the heck was Haley Barbour thinking? Reading Governor Barbour's explanation and watching the Fox News video of his interview, the question becomes: What would Haley do?

Reader Nick D'Orazio - a Power Line Prize winner who tied for third place in the competition - has created a video borrowing from my favorite Coen Brothers movie to express his disapproval for the governor's explication of the pardons.

I asked Nick to comment on his video. He writes:

Here's the point I wanted to make. Barbour's pardons are what you get when you believe in the "humanitarian" view of punishment. It demonstrates that if a friendly bureaucrat believes that after 20 years, a murderer has been rehabilitated, he should be released without regard to whether or not they have fully paid for their crimes as specified by the justice system.

C.S. Lewis warned us about this in The Problem of Pain:

"Some enlightened people would like to banish all conceptions of retribution or desert from their theory of punishment and place its value wholly in the deterrence of others or the reform of the criminal himself... What can be more immoral than to inflict suffering on me for the sake of deterring others if I do not deserve it..? And what can be more outrageous than to catch me and submit me to a disagreeable process of moral improvement without my consent, unless (once more) I deserve it?"

Barbour in the same interview says (at 4:56): "When my grandchildren are over at the governor's mansion, we trust them to play with and be looked out for by these people." I think the governor forgets that the victims of these murderers were not on the estate of a man who had the power to pardon them if they behaved themselves or bring down the wrath of an angry grandfather if they did not. I dare say that Governor Barbour would not want his grandchildren to be with these men in the vulnerable situations that the victims were when these murderers killed them.

There is noting sacrosanct about the sentence imposed by judge in a given case. I don't have a problem with the exercise of the pardon power when appropriate, but I find Barbour's defense of the pardons to be wanting.

A word from William Shawcross

(Scott Johnson)

William Shawcross is the distinguished journalist, historian and author. He is also the son of Winston Churchill's lawyer, the prominent former Nuremberg prosecutor and Labor MP Sir Hartley Shawcross. He thus provides something of a living link to Churchill whom we are especially proud to claim as a friend of our site.

Mr. Shawcross's new book - Justice and the Enemy: Nuremberg, 9/11, and the Trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed - has just been published. It is a book that addresses a subject close to our hearts. Indeed, it is one that we have written about here frequently over the years and a few of our items appear in the text and footnotes to the book.

The book has been favorably reviewed by John Yoo in the Wall Street Journal, where a related column by Mr. Shawcross also appeared. Today the Journal also publishes Mr. Shawcross's selection of Five Best books on the Nuremberg trials.

Mr. Shawcross is visiting the United States in support of the book. I've been begging him for a paragraph or two explaining why his book would be of interest to our readers, as I know it will be. This morning he took time out at LaGuardia Airport, about to board a plane to Chicago, to file this column providing the story behind the book:

In November 2009 Attorney General Eric Holder announced that he would put Khaled Sheikh Mohammed on trial in Manhattan and immediately drew protests from New Yorkers who did not relish a return visit of al Qaida in any fashion. In the ensuing row, my editors at PublicAffairs, who had published my defense of the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, Allies: The U.S., Britain, and Europe in the Aftermath of the Iraq War, in 2004, called and said, "William your father was Chief Prosecutor at Nuremberg. Write a short sharp book saying that was how we dealt with the monsters then - here's how we should do so now.

I blithely thought, Why not? It would be nice to write a little of my father, whom I loved and admired, and Nuremberg was a part of my growing up. I used to listen to fragile 78 rpm records of my father's speeches for the prosecution. I found his descriptions of Nazi crimes chilling.

I am not a lawyer and so I found the book much harder than I expected. But it is now complete and just published - Justice and the Enemy: Nuremberg, 9/11 and the Trial of Khaled Sheikh Mohammed.

What I have tried to do is to put the proposed trial of Khaled Sheikh Mohammed into the context of Nuremberg. I have sought to explain the extraordinarily difficult dilemmas that would have faced any US Government after the horrific attack of 9/11 - particularly in light of bin Laden's repeatedly stated ambition to acquire and use WMD against the world.

During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Barack Obama, who constantly attacked President Bush for his policies in the war on terror, praised Nuremberg. He said that "part of what made us different was even after these Nazis had performed atrocities that no one had ever seen before, we still gave them a day in court and that taught the entire world about who were are but also about the rule of law."

I agree with Obama that Nuremberg was a success and should not be dismissed as "victors' justice." But what he failed to acknowledge was that the defendants at Nuremberg had far fewer rights than those at Guantanamo under the Military Commissions created by President Bush. Indeed, were a Nazi transported by time machine from Nuremberg to Guantanamo he would be astonished by the privileges and safeguards which were suddenly available to him.

The most fundamental is this: at Nuremberg there was no right of appeal against the judgement of the Military Tribunal. By contrast anyone convicted at Guantanamo can appeal all the way to the Supreme Court. In other words he will have all the safeguards of anyone convicted in an Article III court. That is worth remembering in the months ahead as reformed military tribunals come under sustained attack from the left and from powerful human rights organisations.

That is another huge difference from 1945. At that time none of the human rights organisations that are so influential today even existed. Apart, that is, from the US Armed Forces and their democratic partners. The US military was then, and still is today, the greatest defender of human rights that the world has ever seen. Think of the millions rescued from tyranny by American forces throughout the 20th century - and in the first ten years of this decade. Without the extraordinary commitment of American blood and treasure the world would not have enjoyed any such stability as it finally won during the century of totalitarians and mass graves.

I live in London and believe very strongly that we Europeans are shockingly casual about the debt we owe those mostly young men and women from all over the United States. And that is why I fear Obama's refusal to accept the concept of American exceptionalism. Without American commitment, a free Europe will be under serious threat. The last one hundred years have shown that only America has the power and the optimism to defeat the forces of nihilism, whether they are fascist, communist or radical Islamist.

We are most grateful to Mr. Shawcross for allowing us to draw our readers' attention to his new book with these personal reflections.

Endgame in Afghanistan

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 05:24 AM PST

(Scott Johnson)

Our friend Pete Hegseth, founder of Vets For Freedom, is now posted to Afghanistan, where he has been training Afghans as well as American and coalition troops. His reports on the situation there are as knowledgeable as any you can find. Here is his final dispatch - long but worth reading through to the end - before he heads home next month:

We brought in the New Year around a bonfire-drinking "near beer" (the non-alcoholic version, unfortunately), smoking cigars, and enjoying grilled sausage prepared by our German friends. It was a pleasant evening in the cold Kabul air that I won't soon forget. I spent a good portion of the evening gazing into the flames, thinking about the year that has been, and what might be in store for 2012. So far, there have been multiple snowfalls in Kabul-making Minnesotans feel right at home.

Two thousand eleven was a long, but fulfilling, twelve months. When the year began, Samantha and I thought we were headed to the 25th Infantry Division in Alaska to prepare for a deployment to southern Afghanistan; when that fell through at the last minute, I joined the Minnesota National Guard-first training in northern Minnesota, then to New Jersey to mobilize, and finally for the past eight months in Afghanistan. It's been difficult to be away from Samantha and Gunner for so many special moments, but I wouldn't change a thing.

Our country has seen similar highs and lows. From killing bin Laden (I was jarred from my bunk at Fort Dix at the news) to the surge in Afghanistan, American courage was on display in 2011. At the same time, massive problems dominated the headlines. From U.S. credit downgrades, to political gridlock (super-committee, anyone?), to economic stagnation, to massive defense cuts, to Iranian belligerence and new Chinese aircraft carriers, 2011 presented a multitude of challenges that will persist well into the future. My next email will touch on these topics, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Two thousand twelve promises more challenges, but also opportunities (as a new year always does). Personally, I'll soon be returning to Minnesota-eager to reunite with my family. In fact, my return has been hastened by the requirement to train our replacements in New Jersey later this month; so, I should be back-for good-by early-to-mid February. (In fact, I'm in-transit right now-currently in Kyrgyzstan). As a nation, we obviously still have choppy international water to navigate (one of which I'll elaborate on below), as well as a presidential election that will shape the direction of our country. May God bless our nation's endeavors on all fronts.

(Speaking of elections, a number of you have contacted me about an online effort regarding the 2012 U.S. Senate race in Minnesota. I cannot comment on this independent effort, but am humbled by the confidence of others. I have not made any decisions about what the future holds and will not do so until I'm back home and off active duty status).

Finally, with my deployment in the home stretch, I cannot thank everyone on this list enough for your incredible support. The emails of support, encouragement-and especially prayer-have poured in for the past ten months. And the boxes (and boxes and boxes) of care packages have been non-stop and incredibly generous. In particular, I received an email from a woman in Texas just before Christmas that blew my mind. She wrote:

"So very sorry to have not written sooner. Also, very sorry that we haven't got another package out to you. I had heart surgery on Nov. 8 and didn't return home until Dec. 19th. It was touch and go and I coded 42 times. Still barely able to walk, so give me some time. Have already purchased a favorite of yours for the next box, just need to "fill" it out to a decent package. Have not forgotten to pray for your safety and that of the rest of our troops. May the Lord bless you all!"

She had heart surgery-where her heart stopped 42 times!-and she's apologizing to me for not sending me a care package!? She can barely walk and only been home from the hospital for a week, and she is praying for me!? Truly amazing. Truly a blessing. And truly a testament to the American spirit. Her case is clearly exceptional, but her efforts are exemplary of the outpouring of "we have your back" support during this deployment. You have continually lifted my spirits and served as a reminder of America at her best. Thank you all.

Now, for the final time from Afghanistan (and Kyrgyzstan), below is my current assessment of the future in Afghanistan. As always, it's a bit long, so grab a frosty beverage and proceed at your own risk.

The Endgame in Afghanistan

My first email from Kabul was entitled "First Impressions" and the caveats I used in that email remain unchanged. Afghanistan is such a dynamic place-layered with umpteen complexities, contradictions, mysteries, and unknowns-that a holistic understanding of the country, let alone the conflict (overt and covert), is nearly impossible. That said, over the past eight months I've had the opportunity to challenge my first impressions, test hypotheses, and attempt to understand the true nature of the conflict. This section represents my modest-if declarative-initial attempt at distilling what I've learned and making some observation about America's eventual endgame in Afghanistan.

Rather than break down my assessment categorically as I did in previous emails, I will instead look at the war through a lens provided by an insurgency expert who visited us this past summer. His name is Gérard Chaliand and the day we spent with him was fascinating. In addition to authoring over 40 books on guerilla warfare, he has also been a participant/observer of over a dozen insurgencies around the world-including Afghanistan in the 1980s, and again during the current conflict. Listening to him was like sitting in a semi-circle around Yoda himself, absorbing the insight and knowledge of a rare specimen.

Mr. Chaliand visits Afghanistan yearly, but said his 2011 trip was his last. When asked why, he said, "Because I know how it will end. The Taliban control the countryside and are growing in support throughout the country by providing an effective underground government structure. The seeds of their return were planted long ago-much before Gen. McChrystal's 2009 counterinsurgency strategy-and their ascension is now inevitable. International forces started doing the right things at 'half past eleven' and now it's too late."

While I certainly didn't share his pessimism then, I've come begrudgingly to agree with his assessment today. The Taliban-by mitigating their negatives (brutality, ethnic exclusion, and overt association with al Qaeda) and accentuating their perceived positives (swift justice, longevity, and ideological cohesion)-have gained, and maintained, a psychological grip on the Afghan population. While most Afghans, especially non-Pashtuns, do not want the Taliban to return ("hearts"), they are grappling with-and calculating accordingly-the looming reality that the Taliban will outlast U.S. forces ("minds") and eventually challenge a weak, corrupt, and fractured Afghan Government for control of the country.

This isn't to say that we couldn't achieve a more advantageous outcome for the United States; of course if we got rid of the 2014 withdrawal deadline completely, were truly willing to remove Taliban and Haqqani safe-havens in Pakistan (we know where they are!), and purged the Afghan government of its most corrupt nodes we could "change the game" of this conflict. But for various reasons-be they domestic politics, a nuclear-armed Pakistan (a lesson for Iran, I would suggest), and a trepidation with undermining corrosive "Afghan sovereignty"-it is highly unlikely we will make the hard choices necessary to level the playing field. A bad outcome in Afghanistan isn't inevitable, but in light of current realities, it is likely.

However, the policies we pursue in the coming years will impact the degree to which the outcome here is bad, or less-bad. Our commitment to training and mentoring Afghan security forces will be central to determining the future of this country. If we do it right-truly creating a multi-ethnic force that will defend the interests of most Afghans-it could be a vanguard against total Taliban control and a buffer against outright civil war. If we do it wrong or hurriedly, we're merely indiscriminately (and heavily!) arming different elements of an Afghan army that will eventually turn its guns on each other. In my opinion the later outcome is most likely, but not inevitable.

If you know me, I'm not one for pessimism, and certainly not interested in undermining the efforts of our troops in harm's way. Afghanistan is nowhere near a John Kerry-esque "who will be the last American to die for a mistake?" situation. Our effort is noble, our cause just, and our military sharp. But at the same time, my sentiments are in keeping with most Coalition members over here-even if they're unwilling to say it. We soldier on. We will fight until the end. But with our ear to the ground and our boots in the snow, we can feel the undercurrent in Afghanistan. As the clock ticks to 2014, we become more irrelevant as Afghans make decisions (hoarding, segregating, and hedging) regarding a post-American future in their country.

While I don't like acquiescing to a "non-victory" in Afghanistan, we will have nonetheless achieved an outcome in Afghanistan that is an exception to the rule in the so-called "graveyard of empires." From a historical perspective, whenever we "leave" we will be the first "invader" that left on our own terms-a not insignificant accomplishment. Thankfully, and necessarily, I'm fairly certain our commitment to Afghanistan will continue on a smaller and enduring scale-and in doing so we will have done everything we can to create the conditions for a friendly and capable (at least on paper) Afghanistan government to determine their own future. It may not end well, but it won't be for a lack of U.S. effort, courage, and ingenuity.

As supporting evidence for these heavy-hearted assertions, I would first submit my previous two emails (here and here). My feelings on the fundamentally corrupt Afghan government, Pakistan safe-haven, the 2014 deadline, Taliban capabilities and more are clearly stated in those emails-along with facts and financial figures. However, I'd like to take one more broad look at our mission in Afghanistan, as it currently stands in January of 2012. In doing so, I'll use Mr. Chaliand's closing statement to us as a framework for examination. He said, when looking at a counterinsurgency conflict, we must: "Never believe your propaganda, always re-asses the facts, challenge assumptions, and don't rely on wishful thinking." Wise words, and a useful filter for analyzing our mission in Afghanistan.

"Never believe your propaganda..."

The Coalition narrative (I don't consider it "propaganda," because we're beholden to the truth-unlike our enemies) in Afghanistan is as follows: the "surge" summer of 2011 has inflicted serious damage on the Taliban, especially in the south; and at the same time, we are aggressively pushing Taliban re-integration programs, training increasingly capable Afghan security forces, and working to improve local governance. But, as I've said before, only half of this is grounded in reality. Yes the "surge" has allowed U.S. troops to push the Taliban out of traditional strongholds in the south, significantly disrupting their operations. However, there is also evidence that, despite heavy casualties, the Taliban have been able to regenerate themselves quickly, maintain their military and shadow-governance networks, and are waiting us out.

More troubling is the fact that we have not seen the ripple affects we needed the surge to induce (as it did in Iraq). While re-integration numbers (fighters giving up the fight) are increasing, they still include very few Pashtuns, especially Pashtuns from the south. Most of the re-integrated fighters are from the north and west, places not known for Taliban support. Second-and more importantly-Afghan governance at the local and national level has not decisively taken advantage of the surge environment to improve capability and legitimacy. While there are great programs (like Village Stability Operations and the Afghan Local Police) working to create the conditions for local governance, there hasn't been-nor will there be-an Anbar-style tribal awakening like we saw in Iraq, largely because of the segmented and fractured nature of Pashtun society in modern Afghanistan. And without a legitimate government in Kabul and in the provinces, the chances for a stable outcome are minimal.

Another aspect of our narrative is that the 2012 "fighting season" (April to October) will be a decisive moment for our forces. We will increase our gains in the south, and degrade the Taliban enough to create the space for increasingly capable Afghan forces and a burgeoning government. There are three big problems with this. First, the idea of a "fighting season" is misleading. While violence is higher in the summer months, the non-violent aspect of this conflict doesn't stop. When we're not fighting (and sitting snug on our FOBs for the holidays), the Taliban continues to spread their influence through local dispute resolution, mobile Sharia courts (seen as increasingly legitimate by the people), and propaganda. Second, while we have achieved a critical mass of soldiers in the Afghan National Army, their ability and motivation to continue the fight when we're not in the lead is still suspect (more on this below). Finally, it's hard to overstate how damaging the 2014 deadline is in creating these outcomes. As the perception of 2014 gets closer, our influence-by point of fact-will diminish. The Taliban can stand back and wait us out because we told them how long to wait.

"Always reassess the facts..."

The fact is: facts are sticky in Afghanistan. And, depending on whom you're talking to-especially amongst Afghans-they are always different, and oftentimes contradictory. So, rather than only talk "facts" now, I'd like to do a quick comparison between old facts and new realities.

Fact: In 2004, President Hamid Karzai was elected the President of Afghanistan, and seen as legitimate by wide swaths of Afghans as well as around the world. Reality today: Not only is the Karzai government corrupt and dysfunctional, it is already seen as illegitimate by most groups inside Afghanistan and as a complete money-pit to international donors. In fact, by any fair assessment, it can barely be called a "government" by traditional standards; it's more like a ruling mafia. Bribery, nepotism, and blatant disregard for the rule of law and their own constitution are off the charts. The ruling elite are getting rich off international aid while regular Afghans scarcely see their lives improve. All-the-while, the Taliban exploit this fact through piercing propaganda. The end result is that we continue to prop up an Afghan government that is seen as increasingly illegitimate by the people, all the while hoping "peace talks" with the Taliban will provide an exit ramp for the war. The Taliban doesn't want to work with the Afghan government, they want to replace it.

Fact: Since 2001 the United States has spent $456,000 an hour, every hour, on non-military developmental aid alone, and has spent even more on the military. Reality today: Afghanistan is an international donor state, almost completely reliant on international aid money to function. They have almost no tax base (save import taxation and...untaxed opium) and 97% of Afghanistan's Gross Domestic Product is linked to foreign aid. We pay for their government and military, and have created financial realities that are completely unsustainable. Take, for example, the Afghan Army. This year we will spend $13 billion on training and equipping the Afghan Army, while the Afghan government will take in less than $2 billion in revenue. Some tough financial realities loom: either we cut spending and reduce the size of their Army or we continue to pay for it. The former would mean-for certain-the Afghan Army would eventually capitulate to the Taliban; the later that we continue to pump billions into Afghanistan's Army while we downsize our own (a bad idea, by the way). Not not only is Afghanistan's current situation unsustainable, but spending in the country for the past decade has distorted their economy and government more negatively than positively.

Final fact: In 2001, the U.S. was attacked by al Qaeda from Afghanistan, where the Taliban granted them safe-haven. Reality today: Bin Laden is dead, al Qaeda is on the ropes, and the Taliban are wary of their association with al Qaeda. Yes the groups still coordinate, but it's not the rock solid alliance it was ten years ago. Vice President Biden recently said that "the Taliban is not our enemy." I respectfully and adamantly disagree (as would, I suspect, the families of those U.S. troops killed by the Taliban). Any group openly fighting and killing our soldiers is our enemy. But the more important question is-does the Taliban pose an existential threat to America and our interests? They might tell us during negotiations that they will swear off association with Al Qaeda, but just like the Iranian denial of nuclear weapons-we should not believe them. There isn't a scenario where a radical and violent Islamic group taking control of Afghanistan is a good outcome; however, we can still salvage conditions where the Taliban are not able to utilize, or provide, substantial haven for radical Islamists with global ambitions.

"Challenge assumptions..."

The largest and most dangerous assumption we make is that there is a nation called "Afghanistan" and a collection of people called "Afghans." Neither is correct, but that assumption continues to fuel our push for a multi-ethnic military and government that holds sway inside the arbitrary boundaries of Afghanistan. Having spent time with Afghans from multiple backgrounds-Pashtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Hazaras-it's painfully clear that beneath the surface of the "we are Afghans" talk are true feelings of ethnic and tribal affiliations that supersede an "Afghan" identity. History, language, violence, custom, mistrust, and animosity separate these groups-and a flag, a national anthem (only in Pashto, which angers Dari speakers) a "government" and a western-style Army are not enough to create a nation where none exists. I could tell story after story about this, but suffice it to say-this country is fragmented, and won't unite in time to fight an ideologically cohesive, Pashtun-based Taliban movement.

In regards to the western-style Army I mentioned above, the assumptions we make with this force will have lasting, and potentially positive or negative impacts. Not only have we attempted to create a multi-ethnic institution that will represent all Afghans, but we've also built an Army in our image-with strong conventional capabilities and a Non-Commissioned Officer Corps, where none has existed before. We are producing new units at a rapid rate, recruiting from all backgrounds and then sending them to the Consolidated Fielding Center (CFC) in Kabul where multi-ethnic units are established and trained, before being sent to the field. There's nothing wrong with that; but the problem is what happens after that, on three fronts:

First, each new unit is given millions of dollars of brand new weaponry and equipment, with minimal actual accountability. The kandak (battalion) commander is responsible for the equipment, some/much of which eventually ends up missing (and sometimes on sale in Pakistan). For example, a heavy weapons kandak leaves the CFC with approximately eighteen brand-new 50-caliber machine guns, and dozens of smaller-caliber heavy weapons and RPGs. I challenge you to walk into any National Guard armory in the States and ask how many functioning 50-caliber machine guns they have. They'll probably pull out four beat-up 50-cals with rusting barrels, likely dated back to Vietnam. If things don't end well, someone will use these weapons-and it might not be our friends.

Second, while units are formed as multi-ethnic entities, once they get to the field a slow, but deliberate, self-segregation is starting to occur. Soldiers from the north try to get back to the north, and likewise for soldiers in the south. A Tajik ultimately wants to fight alongside Tajiks from his area, and likewise for Pashtuns and other groups. What you could end up having is a series of regional armies with more commitment to their area then to "Afghanistan." If things don't end well, they will end up fighting each other-with weapons we have supplied them. On the flip side, if things move forward as we plan, these units will be a bulwark for the state. There are certainly many multi-ethnic units in the field, fighting bravely together and doing great things. The question is-will this be the rule, or become the exception?

Third, even once the units are fielded-and assuming they are fighting for "Afghanistan"-we are currently making big assumptions about their capability to eventually independently operate and sustain their activities. With U.S. support-which includes things like logistical resupply, air support, and medical evacuation-many units currently do well in the fight. But if we take that away in 2013, 14, or 15-will they sustain the fight? And will they push into enemy territory? Many Afghan units have become accustomed to U.S. support, and may not be willing to fight an emboldened Taliban without the robust U.S. support they receive. They're also accustomed to being paid well, while their Taliban counterparts fight for nothing. Our brave soldiers will mentor and train them to make them as capable as possible, but if they don't develop their own systems soon, the Afghan Army house of cards could come falling down more quickly than anyone would like to admit.

Finally, I came to Afghanistan with the assumption that this battlefield is central to defending the United States. In the realm of perception and international opinion it is still very important; how we "finish" in Afghanistan will send strong signals to the rest of the world about whether we finish what we start. Recent events in Iraq make this plainly clear. However, the question is whether the cost in Afghanistan is worth the outcome? As my British colleague says, "is the juice worth the squeeze?" I think seeing this through, while gradually drawing down, is worth doing. That said, larger and more strategically significant issues staring us in the face need to take a higher priority. We need to muster our political courage and confront our crippling domestic debt. (Did you know that, by 2015, just the interest payments on our debt to China will pay for its entire military?). We need to ensure our force posture and military might is capable of deterring a rising China. And we need to do what is necessary-including military action-to prevent a nuclear Iran (the fact that we can't do anything in a nuclear-armed Pakistan should demonstrate that). There are obviously plenty of other challenges as well (especially at home), and spending money the way we are today in Afghanistan prevents us from confronting these challenges.

"...and don't rely on wishful thinking."

If you've read the previous two sections (and my previous emails), then I hope most of your "wishful thinking" has been stripped. That's the point-we can't wish our way to victory (as we say, "hope is not a strategy"). But we can look at the world the way it is and craft strategies to effect a more-desirable outcome. From where I've been sitting in Afghanistan, thankfully it's clear that General Allen understands this; and as a result we've already seen (and will continue to see) a shift in our strategy from counterinsurgency to security force assistance. It's a subtle, but important change. Instead of U.S. units taking the military lead in the field and trying to "partner" with Afghan units in the process, the lead responsibility will now fall to Afghans. Our soldiers will serve as embedded advisors, with 12-16 man teams embedded inside every Afghan unit-pushing the Afghan Army (and Police) to the point where they can defeat the enemy on their own. U.S advisors will start with infantry units trained to clear and hold areas of insurgents and gradually shift toward support units, including helicopter units, logisticians and other support personnel. This change makes complete sense and is the best strategy to securing a less-bad outcome for us.

At the same time, General Allen continues to talk about a post-2014 presence for NATO and the United States. This is extremely important as well. The Afghan Army, and the Taliban, need to be convinced that we won't just leave in 2014-but will instead maintain an enduring, and strategically significant, presence. The perception (as opposed to the reality) of 2014 is what is most damaging to our effort-and from General Allen and all elements of command, there is a clear effort to erode this perception. It won't change overnight, but we must aggressively pursue a counter-narrative.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention the ongoing "peace talks" with the Taliban (aptly placed in the "wishful thinking" section). It appears that both the U.S. and the Afghan government have approved a Taliban "office" in the country of Qatar, from which they can hold peace talks. Right now the Taliban is only talking to the U.S., which angers President Karzai. In fact, the Taliban's most recent pronouncement on negotiations rejected Karzai, his government and the Afghan constitution-which is not a promising starting point. From our side, there are talks of a prisoner exchange from Guantanamo, as well as ceasefires, etc. The U.S. insists that the Taliban would have to forswear violence, stop harboring international jihadists, and recognize the Afghan government and constitution. It is highly unlikely they will agree to all three; therefore, which one would we be willing to cave on? If they keep their weapons, they'll keep fighting; if they continue to harbor terrorists, then our entire effort is for naught; and if they won't recognize the Afghan government, then they're never join it.

I honestly don't have the slightest idea how these talks will unfold, but we're being shortsighted and "wishful" if we think they will provide a silver bullet for this conflict. I'm fearful the beltway intelligencia, out of options and desperate for a rapid solution, will seize on this idea-regardless of underlying realities. The Taliban will not be content to share power in good faith; and since they think they're "winning," they're not likely to capitulate to our demands. Their negotiation strategy is based on (again) waiting until 2014 when the United States could be forced to compromise on the most important aspects of the post-2001 order in Afghanistan.

In the end, we clearly cannot abandon Afghanistan-pulling our troops out now would be a disaster. On the other hand, maintaining our effort at the current scope and cost is not commensurate with the benefits. The surge, led by the finest generals the American military has to offer, was the right approach; however, it was undercut from the outset-when we told the enemy when we were going to leave. Having tried "more troops" (albeit, half-heartedly) and in light of political realities, the best course of action now is to continue drawing down our troops, bolster our advising mission, and emphasize our continued-if much scaled down-commitment to the outcome in Afghanistan. Despite our mistakes, we cannot abandon this mission-lest we invite larger problems in the future. Going forward, a robust advising mission, along with continued targeted special forces raids, could be sustained in perpetuity with minimal cost and most of the benefit of our current presence.

As I've said before, it remains the honor of my life to serve our great country-first in Guantanamo Bay, then Iraq, and finally in Afghanistan. I can think of no greater privilege than to wear our nation's uniform, and to defend the ideals we all hold dear.

I'll close by reiterating something I wrote in July. I urge you to remember the guy-dirty, tired, sweaty, and hungry-on patrol somewhere in no-man's-land Afghanistan. He is fighting as I type this, and as you read this. We must always remember that, and remember him in our prayers. He is the linchpin of this effort, and the one who bears the brunt of all the policies we execute.

I plan to continue writing about Afghanistan-as well as other pertinent topics-in the coming months. And I'll probably send out another "cap-stone" email once I'm officially back home. I won't bombard you with emails, but hope to continue bringing some first-hand insight to challenges facing our nation-abroad and at home.

Again, thank you for the love and support-and keep the prayers coming for the guys still in in the fight.

Godspeed my friends,

The Real Iron Lady

(John Hinderaker)

A fictionalized version of Margaret Thatcher's life, produced by her liberal foes, is now in the theaters. That isn't all bad: even a liberal version of Lady Thatcher puts almost all modern politicians to shame. But the Heritage Foundation has created this video to remind us of the real Iron Lady, now more than ever an inspiration to all who love freedom:

THE HILLARY PIC THAT MADE RUSH GASP
There is generally no love lost between Rush Limbaugh and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. That situation was certainly not helped by the on-air reaction from the top talker when he saw a bizarre image of Mrs. Clinton on his TV screen. See the photo and hear Rush exclaim "Oh good Lord!" HERE.

o'keefe's new hidden vid could cost him
The argument supporting tougher election laws just got some added ammunition. Hidden videos taken by James O'Keefe's Project Veritas during the recent NH primary election show several instances of people using the names of deceased voters to get ballots and be given access to voting booths. Watch the clips and find out how this could actually backfire on the people who did the taping HERE.

8 CLIPS FROM ALASKA'S HUGE SNOWFALL
This has been a mild winter in many of the contiguous 48 states. The people of  Alaska cannot make the same claim. Some areas have already received more than 15 feet of the white stuff. Towns have run out of shovels and ice breaking ships are also rushing to bring much-needed fuel oil to the snowed-in cities. Watch a handful of videos from the snowbound folks HERE.

DID PRESIDENT OBAMA COMPLAIN ABOUT TAKING PHOTOS WITH THE TROOPS IN IRAQ?
A new book about President Obama from Rolling Stone editor Michael Hastings could cause some trouble for the Commander-in-Chief. Hastings claims that Obama was irritated by a request to take photos with some troops and embassy employees during an Iraq visit. Read the excerpt HERE.

FOX'S ERIC BOLLING TALKS WITH THE BLAZE
Eric Bolling hosts shows on both the Fox News and Fox Business channels. In a sit down with The Blaze, Bolling talks about his faith, his past life in professional baseball and how he feels about the attacks against religion mounted by people like Bill Maher. Get all the details HERE.

VIRAL VIDEO - jimmy fallon as tebow-ie
NBC's late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon merged his impressions of rocker David Bowie and the Denver Bronco's Tim Tebow to create "Tebowie." Watch the clip as Tebowie performed on last night's show  HERE.

CHECK THIS OUT: A SKATEBOARD STEERED WITH MOTION-SENSING TECHNOLOGY
The folks at Chaotic Moon Labs have released details and video of their latest invention known as the "Board of Awesomness." Take a look at this four-wheeled, battery-operated, all-terrain skateboard capable of travelling at speeds of up to 32mph HERE.

WaPo: If Tebow were Muslim he would be hated

The Washington Post asked the question, "Tim Tebow: would we love him if he were Muslim?" making the assumption that there is no one out there who is irritated at the Tim Tebow craze. But the article only got more ridiculous from there, positing the theory that if Tebow were Muslim he'd be hated because after all, look what happened to former NBA star Chris Jackson! Why is Jackson the worst example ever? Find out HERE.

New anti-Romney ad reveals shocking allegations

As Mitt Romney's lead grows over the rest of the GOP field, so does the desperation from the other candidates. No one is more desperate than Newt Gingrich, who has unleashed a series of truly remarkable attacks on Mitt Romney. Are they hitting him on flip flops? Romneycare? Nope - instead they are focusing on his 'vulture capitalism', his ability to speak a foreign language & the oh-so important 1983 family vacation to Canada. Reaction on radio today

Meghan McCain: I'm just like Ronald Reagan

Somehow Meghan McCain was invited to appear on the Jay Leno program despite the fact she's accomplished virtually nothing in her life other than being the daughter of Senator John McCain. The interview served only as more evidence that the totally awesome Meghan McCain shouldn't have even the smallest emoticon of a platform to pretend she's a conservative. She capped the interview with the shocking insinuation that she is just like Ronald Reagan. Yeah, totally ridic. Reaction on radio today.

VA school district caught lying about indoctrination song

Remember the recent story about the parents at an elementary school in Virginia who were furious that their students were made to sing a ridiculous song about the 99% and Occupy Wall Street? And remember how the school district responded to complaints from the parents by laughably arguing the kids came up with the lyrics all on their own? Turns out the school was lying their faces off about it and the song was indeed mostly influenced by instructors. Full story at The Blaze.

Mitt Romney's character exposed!

Aside from the ridiculous Bain Capital attacks on Mitt Romney recently, there is another weak attack being waged on Romney's character. This time a new book attacks Romney from being so evil, so heartless, so violent that he had the unmitigated nerve to advise a pregnant teen to give the baby up for adoption. What a radical concept! Glenn reacts on radio today.

Shocker: EU nations about to be downgraded

France TV is reporting that France has lost its AAA credit rating and several other news outlets are reporting that others will soon follow. Well, that didn't take long, did it? The European Union began using the Euro in 1999 and just over a decade later it's managed to completely destroy the entire region's economy. Bravo! Get the latest on the coming collapse of the EU.

Any lingering hopes that readers of this paper were generally well read and well rounded have been greatly dashed by some of the mindless responses about Tea Parties. The original article appears to be well balanced unlike so many of those posts. One wonders at how severely they limit their sources of information.

The Tea Party I co-founded in eastern Pennsylvania includes these among its goals: reduce government intrusion into our economy, reform the regulatory agencies, elect leaders who understand the meaning of fiscal responsibility, root out crony capitalists/crony socialists/crony legislators, to name a few. Dangerous populism to be sure!

One need not belong to a Tea Party to support those positions - in fact, at our weekly awareness rallies along the crowded highway at the King of Prussia malls; those passing by indicate their agreement with our signs at a ratio of 20 - 25 to 1, by careful count. That's up from 6 or 8 to 1 when we began three years ago.

Our group, like others in this region, does not support any particular candidate; most or all are sufficiently in tune with our goals. We know that all have flaws and deficiencies. Bur as a group, we respect the line between supporting policies and supporting a given candidate. And yes, we've had reps from both parties speak at our meetings.

I suggest you attend some Tea Party group meetings in your area. This way, your posts will gain some credibility.

ONE RESPONSE FROM ANOTHER READER:

Flag

Well said. I've attended several Philly-area Tea Party events, and I can tell you at these meetings you don't hear any lockstep agreement with any candidate, or any party. In fact, I've heard more blistering comments about the Republican Party at Tea Party meetings than I've heard from my hard-core leftist family members at the dinner table.
