Founding Fathers

Quote:

Thomas Jefferson letter to Peter Carr

Date: August 19, 1785
It is of great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible; and he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and a third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good disposition.

The Mystery of Barack Obama Continues

Most Americans don't realize we have elected a president whom we know very little about.

Researchers have discovered that Obama's autobiographical books are little more than PR stunts, as they have little to do with the actual events of his life. The fact is we know less about President Obama than perhaps any other president in American history and much of this is due to actual efforts to hide his record. This should concern all Americans.

A nation-wide network of researchers has sprung up to attempt to fill in the blanks, but at every opportunity Obama's high-priced lawyers have built walls around various records or simply made them disappear. It is estimated that Obama's legal team has now spent well over $1.4 million dollars blocking access to documents every American should have access to. The question is why would he spend so much money to do this?

The president who campaigned for a more "open government" and "full disclosure" will not unseal his medical records, his school records, his birth records or his passport records. He will not release his Harvard records, his Columbia College records, or his Occidental College records-he will not even release his Columbia College thesis. All his legislative records from the Illinois State Senate are missing and he claims his scheduling records during those State Senate years are lost as well. In addition, no one can find his school records for the elite K-12 college prep school, Punahou School, he attended in Hawaii.

What is he hiding? Well, for starters, some of these records will shed light on his citizenship and birth.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Remember January 3rd, 2007 The Day The Democrats Took Over!

I wonder how many people know this?

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009 -- it was actually January 3rd 2007. The day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives & Senate, the start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

"For those of you who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault," think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

Remember the day.

A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress

Building on decades of Heritage research, The Case Against Obamacare: A Health Care Policy Series for the 112th Congress examines 15 key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Each report:

  • Cites specific sections of the 2,700-page health care law
  • Provides detailed analysis of specific Obamacare provisions
  • Identifies key principles for a better way to reform health care

The unmistakable conclusion of this series is that Obamacare must be fully repealed. Congress cannot build sound market-based health care reform on the flawed foundation of this health care law. Until it can be repealed, Congress must employ its full powers authorized by the Constitution to:

RedState Morning Briefing

For December 30, 2011

1. Mitt Romney Didn't Just Give Planned Parenthood Money, He Gave Them Extra Power

You should be quite familiar by now with the fact that Mitt Romney gave $150.00 to Planned Parenthood in 1994 when claiming he had always been pro-abortion.

You should also know that in 2004, Mitt Romney says he personally converted to the pro-life position. In fact, according to ABC News on June 14, 2007, "Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has long cited a November 2004 meeting with a Harvard stem-cell researcher as the moment that changed his long-held stance of supporting abortion rights to his current 'pro-life' position opposing legal abortion. But several actions Romney took mere months after that meeting call into question how deep-seated his conversion truly was."

What was one of those actions?

Two months after his pro-life conversion, Mitt Romney appointed Matthew Nestor to the bench in Massachusetts. Romney seeming bowed to political pressure making Nestor a judge even after Nestor, according to the Boston Globe as far back as 1994, had campaigned for political office championing his pro-abortion views.

One year after his pro-life conversion, in July of 2005, Mitt Romney vetoed legislation that would expand the use of the morning after pill arguing that it would contribute to abortions. But just three months later Mitt Romney slid back and signed a bill that expanded state subsidized access to the morning after pill.

But that's nothing. Two whole years after the pro-life view had settled into Mitt Romney's conscience and a year after Mitt Romney had vetoed legislation expanding access to the morning after pill, he expanded access to abortion and gave Planned Parenthood new rights under state law. Yes, that Planned Parenthood.

2. Iowa Poll Update: This news is ridiculous

Rick Santorum. Now? Seriously? This is ridiculous. How are prognosticators supposed to do our jobs if we get a break so late it makes Mike Huckabee look like an early frontrunner? Seriously, Iowa, simmer down now.

All I know is Ron Paul isn't winning. Beyond that, anything's possible.

Well, almost anything.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

3. Rick Santorum, Earmarxists, and the Pro-Life Statist

A number of people read my post yesterday about Rick Santorum and still are scratching their heads. In my book RedState Uprising I spent a bit of time dealing with "pro-life statists" who will be the death of the conservative movement if we do not start standing up to them.

Rick Santorum is a pro-life statist. My friend Ned Ryun introduced me to the term and his post on pro-life statists written in the wake of Congressman Mark Souder's resignation sums up every issue I have with Rick Santorum.

Please click here for the rest of the post.

4. "The Chickens of that Effort are Coming Home to Roost[.]"

The Huntsman campaign just released this video, which scores a pretty solid hit on Paul with the newsletter issue, ending with his embarrassing flight from the Gloria Borger interview.

As we count down the final few days before Iowa, I also wanted to point out and hopefully tie together some of the remaining questions about the Ron Paul newsletters. This somewhat lengthy piece is definitely worth a read even if it is somewhat obviously written by someone with an axe to grind in an intra-libertarian movement fight. I find the conclusion of the piece to be sound, which is that Paul himself probably did not most (or any) of the racist material himself, but he was certainly willing to "toast a marshmallow on a cross that someone else was burning."

5. Brain Dead Dem Congressman Thinks Spending is Too Low

In case you were wondering why we are doing nothing to slow our inexorable march towards Greek-style insolvency, look no further than those who are vested with the power of the purse string. Yesterday, Congressman Rush Holt (D-NJ) suggested that we are not spending enough "to invest in research and development, education and infrastructure that would allow America to compete in this increasingly global economy." He proved his assertion by comparing our deficits to....the WWII era!

Please click here for the rest of the post.

6. Once Again, Red Staters Lead the Nation in Private Charitable Giving

The Fraser Institute has released their latest report on charitable giving in the U.S. and Canada, and once again North America's leaders in charitable donations from the Rio Grande to the Arctic Circle reside overwhelmingly in red states. This has been the case for some time, and the reason for it almost certainly comes down to a difference in philosophy regarding charity and the role of private/public institutions in its application. It's unsurprising that conservatives - who by and large believe in the sovereignty of the individual, particularly in terms of fiscal decision-making - choose to give of their own net incomes to charitable causes and organizations that they find worthwhile. It's also unsurprising (and stereotypical) that liberals choose to give less of their own net income to charity, instead leaving that responsibility to the government, which replaces the individual as the evaluator and benefactor of charitable organizations and endeavors. Based on that philosophy of charity and responsibility, it's no surprise that some liberals have been calling on the government to reduce or eliminate the charitable giving tax deduction.

The Dry Arab Spring and the Lost Left

All it takes to understand why the Arab Spring was doomed to turn into an Islamic Winter is that Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa were being asked to choose between a Socialist left and an Islamic right. The left has consistently lost open elections in Europe and America, it lost the battle of ideas in Russia and China, and unsurprisingly it also lost the Arab Spring.

The left wields power in the West only because it has managed to seize control of political and cultural institutions. Those institutions are used to maintain a death grip on the national dialogue, to criminalize dissent and to feed money to its supporters who are often literally paid to continue supporting it, whether in government contracts, welfare checks or organizational benefits. If the left did not have its media, its unions and its flow of supportive immigrants then it would be just another bunch of cranks.

The Western left expected that overthrowing the dictators would pave the way for their favorite leftists to take over. Instead it wasn't the bloggers or the twitter activists who are ahead, it's the Islamists. To be fair to the left, many of its key foreign policy people did know that this would happen but were lying about it. They aren't idiots, they're traitors.

I doubt that anyone at the State Department with a background in the Middle East didn't know that the Muslim Brotherhood would surge in Egyptian elections or that the organization had numerous affiliates waiting to exploit the Arab Spring. The same goes for all the ex-diplomats holding down organizational positions in groups dedicated to promoting democracy in the region or writing articles for foreign policy journals.

They knew that the liberal bloggers were an expendable way to sell the Arab Spring to the West, but that the final victory would belong to the Islamists. And they know it now even as they keep lying that the Islamists are moderate and that their victories are only a temporary phenomenon until the local left gets its bearings. Some are working directly or indirectly for the Gulf Arab states, but quite a few are following the Western left's methodology of using the Clash of Civilizations to bring down the "empire" of Western civilization.

How could anyone have believed that the Middle Eastern left would have won when it has absolutely nothing to offer?

Fellow patriots,

There are people out there who seek to blame the United States for Iraq's troubles, holding the United States accountable for every Iraqi death, even when those deaths are inflicted by Islamic militants, because they contend that those attacks never would have happened if the U.S. hadn't invaded and occupied Iraq.  For example, this article blames the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq for 250,000 Iraqi deaths: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article11674.htm .  How did the author come up with this number?  He compared the death rate in Iraq in the months preceding the U.S. invasion with the death rate after the U.S. invasion, regardless of cause.  Therefore, when "five bombs targeting Shiite neighborhoods kill about 200 people," as happened on April 18, 2007 (see http://www.thefreeresource.com/war-in-iraq-timeline-facts-and-resources-about-cost-death-tole-and-justification ), the author blamed the deaths on the United States.

I've come to a different conclusion, based on Iraq's history:

  • Iraq has always been a battleground, even before Islam.  Before Muhammad was even born, this was the land over which Persians and Romans fought, creating a crazy-quilt of alliances and a mercenary political culture.
  • This cultural climate continued into the Islamic era, when the Persian empire was ruled by Shiites and the Byzantine Empire became the Ottoman Empire.
  • Under Ottoman rule, the territory that is now Iraq was so violent that it literally sapped the Empire of much of its wealth and political cohesion.  After temporarily breaking away from Ottoman control in the 1700s, Iraq was reconquered in the 1800s.  Internal fighting became so bad that, by the early 1900s Iraq's population had shrunken to about 5 million people (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq ).
  • In the wake of World War I, the Ottoman Empire was divided up by the victorious British and French into protectorates with the goal of creating independent new nations friendly to the West.  In a premonition of the modern U.S. experience, these nations adopted many Western governmental structures and became much more connected to Western commerce and technology but remained as hostile as ever.  As Winston Churchill said in his summary of Iraq in 1922, it was an "ungrateful volcano" (see http://historynewsservice.org/2007/10/churchill-on-iraq-living-on-an-ungrateful-volcano/ ).
  • Iraq's political history since that time has been one of treachery and violence.  Among other highlights, it temporarily allied with the Nazis in WWII and suffered two coups, the last of which put Saddam Hussein in power (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq ).
  • Under Saddam's rule:
    • Iraq launched a war against Iran in 1980 to take advantage of Iran's political instability after the Iranian Revolution.  Saddam's goal was to enrich himself by annexing Iran's oil-rich Khuzestan Province (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_War ).  While the United States provided Saddam with some material support when he began to lose the war, America's goal was not to aid Saddam but to stop Iran's own expansionism.  Iran had just humiliated the United States and ruined the Carter Administration with the 444-day Iranian Hostage crisis (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis ).  The United States rightly feared that an Iranian victory over Iraq, after a psychological victory over the United States, would fan Ayatollah Khomenei's plan for a global jihad to establish a world-wide Shiite caliphate ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_support_for_Iraq_during_the_Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_war ).  Later, as Iran's military became depleted of weaponry, it needed American replacement parts because the fallen Shah's military had consisted mainly of American weaponry.  The U.S. secretly sold spare parts to Iran in an effort to pressure Iran to get militant allies to release Western hostages, but this effort failed and the money was instead diverted to support the Nicaraguan Contras, in what later became known as the Iran-Contra Scandal (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_support_for_Iran_during_the_Iran%E2%80%93Iraq_war#United_States_Involvement ).  In other words, despite how the U.S. has been harshly attacked for selling weapons to Iraq and selling spare parts to Iran, its role was small and intended to stop a global Shiite jihad and release Western hostages.  It succeeded in containing the jihad, and, failing to release the hostages, it was able to at least stop the expansion of Communism into Nicaragua.

THE MOST LEGITIMATE CRITICISM THAT CAN BE MADE AGAINST THE UNITED STATES IS THAT ITS LEADERSHIP FAILED TO REALIZE THAT ANY ALLIANCE WITH AN ISLAMIST ENTITY WILL ALWAYS EVENTUALLY BACKFIRE.  THE ISLAMISTS WILL EITHER TURN AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OR COMMIT ATROCITIES THAT DAMAGE AMERICA'S REPUTATION.
    • As the Iran-Iraq ended in 1988, Saddam used chemical weapons to wipe out between 50,000 and 100,000 Kurds in a systematic campaign to physically eliminate about 4,500 villages ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Anfal_Campaign ).  This is the only time in history that a weapon of mass destruction was used by a ruler on his own people, in an act that has been legitimately called genocide.  Saddam's genocide was a form of revenge against the Kurds, who had been fighting for their own homeland and had been financed largely by Iran, which did so to sow internal division in Iraq that could destabilize it.
    • In the wake of the Iran-Iraq war, Saddam's Iraq was deeply in debt to Kuwait, which had supported Saddam and financed much of his war effort.  When Kuwait's ruling family pressed Saddam to repay his debts, he decided to invade Kuwait instead and take over its oil resources (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Kuwait ).  In response, the UN condemned the invasion and the United States led a UN-approved coalition to force Saddam out.
    • After Saddam's humiliating retreat from Kuwait, he feared that his unpopularity would cause him to fall from power, especially because George H.W. Bush and other Western leaders called on the people to rise against him.  Saddam subsequently launched another ruthless campaign against this "intifada", killing tens of thousands in the process (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_uprisings_in_Iraq ).  Saddam's murderous campaign was only limited by the no-fly zones established by the U.S. and Britain, which prevented Saddam from conducting aerial bombing attacks against the Kurds in the north and the Shiites in the south.
    • This status quo persisted throughout most of the 1990s, but Saddam's insistence on rebuilding his military (including the weapons of mass destruction that he had already used) and firing at American and British jets, led President Bill Clinton to:
  1. Sign the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which openly declared its goal to remove Saddam Hussein from power (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Liberation_Act )
  2. Launch Operation Desert Fox (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Iraq_(December_1998) ), which set out to bomb Iraq and thereby degrade its ability to produce weapons of mass destruction.  This effort's authors admitted that it could only degrade Saddam's war preparations, not stop them, and this inability to stop Saddam from building weapons of mass destruction is why Clinton also believed that Saddam had to be removed from power.

ISN'T IT STRANGE THAT DEMOCRATS APPEAR TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THIS FACET OF AMERICAN HISTORY IN THEIR EFFORT TO BLAME BUSH FOR THE U.S.-LED INVASION OF IRAQ -- WHICH SIMPLY CARRIES OUT PRESIDENT CLINTON'S POLICIES, AND WHICH HILLARY CLINTON HEARTILY ENDORSED AT THE TIME.

  • Given these actions taken by the Clinton Administration, the United States and Iraq were clearly in a state of war, albeit one where Iraq couldn't win by conventional means and the United States calculated that it would rather contain Iraq than beat it.  That calculation changed in the wake of the September 11 attacks, which Saddam Hussein heartily cheered by saying "what happened in the United States yesterday is a lesson for all tyrants, oppressors and criminals... The American cowboys are reaping the fruit of their crimes against humanity" (see http://archives.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/09/12/mideast.reaction/index.html ).  Given Saddam's sentiment, together with his continued support for terrorism (see http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,48822,00.html ) and defiance of UN inspections for weapons of mass destruction, violating UN Security Council Resolution 1441, President Bush calculated that the risks of containment now outweighed the risks of removing Saddam from power (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_invasion_of_Iraq ).
  • Under the U.S.-led reconstruction of Iraq, the lid that Saddam's ruthless repression kept on Iraq's simmering internal hostilities was removed, effectively opening Pandora's Box.  It was at this point that it became clear that Saddam's ruthless behavior was not a personal characteristic but a characteristic endemic to Iraqi society.

Saddam, as a member of Iraq's Sunni minority, had sought to build alliances with other religious minorities, such as Christians, whom he treated well, to build an alliance that could stand up to the Shiite majority.  With Saddam gone, his protection of Christians also disappeared, and they have suffered greatly since his fall.  Meanwhile Sunnis and Shiites have simply adjusted their ruthless hostilities to a democratic format, having realized that elections can be won just as easily by physically eliminating the opposition as by campaigning against them for hearts and minds.  It was only the powerful leverage the United States had over Iraq's politicians, together with its resolve, as demonstrated by the 2007 "surge," that Iraq's hostile factions have been able to work together to form an operating government.
  • However, as the U.S. departs, Iraqis are rapidly falling into their old habits of ruthless repression of opponents.  It is altogether likely that the $11 billion of weaponry and training that the Obama Administration is giving the Iraqi government will one day be used against us or our allies.  Once again, America's detractors will be able to point a finger at the United States for handing weapons to a regime that attacks its own people, such as the Kurds or Sunnis, or joins with Iran to attack other countries, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, or Turkey.

My conclusion is that Iraq has had a long and violent history, and that its violent tendencies were only entrenched by Islam, particularly because of the eternal grudge match between Shiites and Sunnis for global domination.  Therefore any attempt by Democrats to blame Republicans or Republicans to blame Democrats for failing to bring peace to Iraq is a misguided projection of American politics onto a hostile, foreign, and incomprehensible place.  If there is anything to blame, it is the failure of BOTH parties to recognize and understand the true nature of Islam and declare that Islam is a dysfunctional and repressive political ideology as hostile to Western democracy as Communism or Fascism.  This failure to understand the real problem goes all the way back to WWII and the days when the United States and Britain first entangled themselves in Middle Eastern oil pipelines.  THEREFORE EVERYONE'S TO BLAME.

We will begin to solve our problems with Iraq and the rest of the Islamic world when we properly define what the core problem is.  Our core problem Islam's call for global conquest, setting Muslims against non-Muslims for all eternity.  Until we understand this core problem, we are simply distracting and undermining ourselves with political bickering that amounts to nothing but self-harm.

The next time war breaks out in the Middle East -- WHICH IS INEVITABLE -- let's hope our leaders understand the real problem well enough to recognize that: (1) All of the warring Islamic factions are bad guys (2) It is impossible to build any lasting alliance with an Islamic faction because Islamists inherently view infidel nations as enemies (3) Any aid, support, or even commerce we engage in with an Islamic faction will eventually be used against us.

With these harsh realities deeply understood, there's a possibility that our leaders will make the right decisions.  Without this understanding, it's impossible, and we will continue to throw good money after bad, along with lives, prestige, and self-respect.

Dave

Act! for America

December 29, 2011

A LOWE'S UPDATE!!

KEEP IT UP....YOUR VOICE IS BEING HEARD!

Please Sign Our Petition TODAY!

Earlier this month, we rolled out a petition expressing support for Lowe's business decision to pull its advertisements from the TLC show, "All-American Muslim."

We are confident that the majority of Americans agree with us that Lowe's is well within its right to pull an advertisement from any media outlet or production without the need for any explanation whatsoever. There is support for Lowe's on that principle alone.

However, it's not surprise that a very vocal minority has been using their mastery of the politically correct media not only to denigrate Lowe's in order to elevate themselves, but to make an "example" of the company in order to intimidate other corporations and individuals.

But they haven't been as successful as they had hoped. Lowe's is continuing to stand its ground. We are sure that the support and encouragement they've been receiving from people such as those who have signed our petition is one reason why.

Last week we delivered over 30,000 names to Lowe's. Have you signed the petition yet? If so, have you forwarded it on to at least 5 other people you know? There is still time to take action!

Here's an update on a few recent positive actions with regard to the Lowe's issue:

  1. When several pastors delivered petitions voicing opposition to Lowe's actions, they were surprised to be invited in to the company's headquarters to hear Lowe's side of the story. Afterward, the pastors acknowledged that they initially "responded to misinformation" by those orchestrating the petitions. (It has come to light that the petitions were orchestrated by far left groups and individuals like Think Progress and George Soros.) The meeting between the pastors and Lowe's went so well, in fact, that they had a joint press conference immediately afterward, where the pastors announced that they "respect their (Lowe's) business decision."

See an article from the Charlotte Observer and one from the Mooresville Tribune for more information about this matter.
  2. Instead of listening to groups falsely claiming they represent most American Muslims, like CAIR, Lowe's has been smart enough to communicate with Muslim-Americans who truly represent their community. This has allowed Lowe's to successfully differentiate truths from falsehoods and CAIR's traditional scare tactics have, thus far, been unsuccessful.

That being said, Islamist and left-leaning individuals and groups are continuing to put pressure on the Lowe's organization. It is CRITICAL that America speak out in support of Lowe's and thank them for standing their ground on this important issue.

To-date, we have had over 37,000 people sign our Lowe's petition-but we need thousands more. We need to send a message both to Lowe's and to the Islamists in our nation that America will continue to defend the freedoms that make her great. Here at ACT! for America, we've made it clear to Lowe's that we will walk beside them every step of the way.

Can we count on you to do the same?

Please sign the petition today and then forward it on to every person you know who values our nation and its democratic freedoms.

REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE COUNTS!
IF EACH OF US DOES JUST A LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN
ACCOMPLISH A LOT!

Iran's Hormuz Threat

An attack on oil traffic would deserve a military response.

So now we know the kind of sanctions that hit Iran's regime where it really hurts. The U.S. and Europe are at last mustering the gumption to target Iran's multibillion-dollar oil industry, and almost immediately Tehran is threatening to bring Persian Gulf tankers to a halt.

"If they impose sanctions on Iran's oil exports, then even one drop of oil cannot flow from the Strait of Hormuz,'' said Iran's first vice president, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, on Tuesday. On a typical day about 13 tankers carry 15.5 million barrels of oil through the strait, which is about 21 miles wide at its narrowest point.

Admiral Habibollah Sayari, who runs Iran's navy, added yesterday that "shutting the strait for Iran's armed forces is really easy-or as we say [in Iran] easier than drinking a glass of water." Oil prices had surged after an Iranian lawmaker issued a vaguer threat last week, and they kept rising before falling yesterday.

As a military matter, this is mostly bluster. If it struck first, Iran could sink a few ships and do some damage. But Iran is no military match for the U.S. and its allies in the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon and the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet both sent that message to Tehran yesterday. "Any disruption," the Bahrain-based U.S. fleet said in an email, "will not be tolerated."

Vladimir Lenin: 'Destroy the Family, You Destroy the Country'

schilling-family

Marriage and family were the very first covenant relationships established by God with man.  The first wedding took place in the Garden of Eden and started with Adam and culminated when God formed Eve from Adam's rib and then joined the two and gave them instructions for their roles in marriage.

From the beginning of man's existence, the family unit has been the most stable and important structure of all time.  It not only serves for procreation, but the very structure of the family actually helps to hold nations together.  It is the foundation for many of our morals and character.  It defines men, women, boys and girls and teaches them values and lessons that will shape the rest of their lives.

A number of socialists and communists have often said that to destroy a nation, first destroy the family.

Over the past 60 years, the family structure in America has been attacked and eroded.  The number of fatherless homes is epidemic.  The number of homes with un-wed couples is growing at an alarming rate, even within Christian circles.

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 313 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Santorum Surging?

Iowa's political landscape seems to be shifting yet again amid an avalanche of polling data and campaign defections. Recent polls suggest Newt Gingrich is fading, while Rick Santorum appears to be surging.

According to the RealClearPolitics.com average of polls, Santorum's support has doubled in the past week, surpassing Michele Bachmann's and Rick Perry's. In fact, the latest CNN poll finds Santorum is running third behind Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

However the race turns out, I'm glad to see Rick Santorum getting a second a look. Again, I'm not endorsing anyone and none of the candidates are perfect. But Rick Santorum is a solid conservative across the board -- a man of deep faith, pro-life, pro-family, pro-free enterprise and committed to preserving America's leadership in the world.

I have personally seen Rick Santorum champion values issues when many in Washington would have preferred to talk about anything else. And in the recent Republican debates, it was often Rick Santorum who made the connection between the strength of our families and the strength of our country. It was also Rick Santorum who frequently challenged Ron Paul's nuttiness on foreign policy.

I have been puzzled by the hesitancy of Iowa conservatives to embrace Santorum, a true Reaganesque conservative. But as previous front-runners have peaked too early, perhaps Iowans are warming up to Santorum at precisely the right time!

Folicalism as Racism? Inside the Mind of a Climateer

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 07:19 AM PST

(Steven Hayward)

Ever since I appeared at a conference on climate change in the Midwest about four years ago with Professor Michael Schlesinger of the University of Illinois I've been on the good professor's email distribution list, usually receiving several communications a day. They are usually links to news stories and journal articles about climate alarm, but occasionally copies of his own indignant missives. The good professor is a "goes-to-11" global warming alarmist with a definite Malthusian overlay (he thinks we all have too many children and consume too much).  And he thinks very well of himself, as can be seen in the signoff to his personal communications, where he reminds everyone that he is "An IPCC recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize," along with, what, something like 5,000 other people who are part of that circus?

Two years ago I shared an email Schlesinger had sent to Andy Revkin, the New York Times chief climate change reporter, wherein Schlesinger was perhaps a bit too candid about Revkin's deviationism from the Party Line:

The vibe that I am getting from here, there and everywhere is that your reportage is very worrisome to most climate scientists. Of course, your blog is your blog. But, I sense that you are about to experience the "Big Cutoff" from those of us who believe we can no longer trust you, me included.

Well, the good professor has outdone himself. Here's the copy of the email he sent last night to Chris Matthews (of MSNBC fame). It seems an excellent specimen of the logical reasoning, not to mention grasp of reality, of the leading lights of the climate campaign:

Chris:

I am shocked to hear you say on tonight's (12/28/11) program that "anybody with a crewcut is no lefty".

This is a bigoted, wrong-headed statement, equivalent to saying that anybody with black skin is not intelligent enough to be allowed to vote.

I thought we were beyond characterizing people by how they look.

Apparently you are not.

I am ashamed of you, and for you.

I wonder what your children think of you for your terrible comment tonight.

I had a young lady in my Climate & Global Change class last term with Cerebral Palsy.

She is confined to a wheelchair which has two headrests for her head and toggle switches for her fingers so she can maneuver her chair across campus and into my classroom.

Using your reasoning, she should not have been allowed in my class because she was different from all the rest - she could not stand up.

Yet therein she got an A - she was one of the best.

I ask that you apologize to America for your bigoted and ignorant comment.

I will now rethink my continuing to watch your programs.

I thought you were a good person.

What's wrong with the individual mandate?

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 05:24 AM PST

(Scott Johnson)

You probably don't need to be told. You probably have figured it out on your own. Yet the answer to the question is profoundly important. It opens the door to the question of limited versus unlimited government, freedom versus tyranny, man versus the state. A certain prominent GOP presidential candidate reminds me, however, on something like a daily basis that he needs instruction in the answer to the question. It's never too late to learn. Professor Paul Rahe is on the case: "What's wrong with the individual mandate?"

Professor Rahe's book Soft Despotism, Democracy's Drift: Montesquieu, Rousseau, Tocqueville, and the Modern Prospect is one of two contemporary books that are key to understanding the Age of Obama. The other is William Voegeli's Never Enough: America's Limitless Welfare State. If you are not familiar with these books, please check them out. They provide the intellectual context to the political struggle in which we are engaged and the wherewithal to understand it.

George Kennan gave us the doctrine of containment to hold off the imperial ambitions of the Soviet Union and Communism. We need the equivalent to hold off the imperial ambitions of the welfare state and Obamunism. And then we need to move from containment to rollback, which is the prescription necessary to ward off Obamacare.

Is the Obama Boomlet Over?

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 06:22 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

Over the last week or so, there has been a lot of news coverage of Barack Obama's comeback in the polls. I noted his modest bounce here, and Scott Rasmussen wrote us to say that he thought Obama's rise was due to increasing optimism about the economy.

After all that hype, it appears that the Obama boomlet may have been overrated. In the Gallup Poll, Obama has dropped back to 44/48. In Rasmussen's Approval Index, Obama, after a week or so of slightly less gloomy numbers, is back to an ice-cold -18:

Moreover, Rasmussen's overall approve/disapprove numbers among registered voters are back to 45/54.

Putting all of that together, it appears that reality has reasserted itself: the economy continues to be lousy, and the Obama administration's achievements continue to be pretty much nonexistent. So whatever minor improvement Obama may have experienced seems to be dissipating.

Incentives Work

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:38 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

We criticized Israel's decision to release more than 1,000 Palestinians terrorists and criminals in exchange for the kidnapped Gilad Schalit. It was, of course, a wrenching decision, and we are sympathetic to the officials who had to make it. But we (and many others) predicted that the inevitable consequence would be to encourage more such terrorist kidnappings. Sure enough:

[A] senior IDF commander said on Wednesday that motivation to kidnap Israeli soldiers has significantly increased since the prisoner swap for Gilad Schalit.

According to Col. Tal Hermoni, commander of the Gaza Division's Southern Brigade, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip are working to abduct Israeli soldiers and are digging tunnels that could be used in such an attack. ...

There were people working in Gaza "on a daily basis" in the tunnel industry, and Israel was investing significant resources to gather intelligence and locate those tunnels to limit the element of surprise if they were to be used in a future attack, he said. ...

Hermoni said the abduction of a soldier would have "strategic significance" for Israel, and the IDF was working on several levels to prevent such an attack and to thwart one if it were launched.

The "strategic significance" comes, I take it, from the fact that the Schalit kidnapping was such a rousing success. So now Israel has to deal with the consequences. As always, incentives matter.

Squishes For Romney

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:22 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

My endorsement of Mitt Romney got the predictable response. Many of our readers and others around the internet agreed with me; others denounced me as a hopeless moderate. To which I say, I am in good company-that notorious squish Ann Coulter has also endorsed Romney, on the ground that he is one of only two GOP candidates who is solid on illegal immigration (along with Michele Bachmann), and the one who is most likely to win so as to secure the repeal of Obamacare. Ann's rationale is thus different from mine; still, to those who accuse me of going soft: I rest my case!

Gallup Worldwide Poll: World Giving Index 2011: U.S. Is #1 (Out of 153 Countries)

That's right - the US is officially the most charitable nation in the world. Despite all the kvetching from the usual suspects that the US is a singularly selfish and greedy country - well they're wrong:

"This is the second edition of the 'World Giving Index', the largest study into charitable behaviour across the globe involving 153 countries in total. Using data from Gallup's Worldview World Poll, the report is based on three measures of giving behaviour - giving money, volunteering time and helping a stranger. The results show that the USA is officially the most charitable nation in the world."

And note that this is real charity - not just voting to have the government take money from someone richer than you and give it to someone poorer which IMO doesn't count.

In Iowa and New Hampshire Non-Republicans are supporting Sanjaya Paul as their "pig party" entry

Dec 29, 2011 05:13 am | Coach Collins

By Kevin "Coach" Collins

In the mid 60's a favorite cruel trick of "preppie" frat boys at some of our major colleges was to throw parties that were billed as "meet and greets" but were actually known as "pig parties" to the fraternity jerks who put them on.

In a "pig party" the frat brothers would pool their money - sometimes as much as $50.00 each- and create a prize pot for showing up with the ugliest girl they could find.  Watching the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire seems like watching "pig parties" unfold.   People who are not Republicans and in many cases hate Republicans are supporting Ron Paul as their own "pig Party" entry.

Sanjaya Paul?

The support for Paul is so suspect because it is so clearly worthy of suspicion.  In Iowa a Rasmussen poll of declared Paul supporters revealed that just 51% call themselves Republicans; while a University of New Hampshire poll ... Armenia was one of the first nations to become Christian around 301 AD, with its capitol of Ani called the "city of a 1,001 churches."
Muslim Turks began invading in the 11th century, making Christians second-class citizens called "dhimmi," and forcing boys to convert and serve in the Muslim army as "Janissaries," or in their pederasty.
When the Turkish Ottoman Empire declined in the 1800's, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania began winning their independence, but Armenia was trapped by Sultan Abdul Hamid, who killed 100,000.
During World War I, "Young Turks" implemented a genocidal plan to rid Turkey of Armenians.
They first recruited unsuspecting Armenian young men into the military, then made them "non-combatant" workers, then marched them into the woods and deserts where they were ambushed and massacred.
With Armenian cities and villages now defenseless, nearly 2 million old men, women and children were marched into the ... Continue Reading:American Minute December 28

The FBI and its "untouchable" Oklahoma City bombing informant

To this day the Federal Bureau of Investigation claims to have discovered not a single Oklahoma City bombing co-conspirator in league with Tim McVeigh and Terry Nichols. Yet McVeigh and Nichols did not act alone in the 1995 scheme which killed 168 individuals and injured hundreds more. They had help, some of it coming from the FBI itself!  And evidence to that effect is overwhelming.

In 2004, Terry Lynn Nichols wrote to Attorney General John Ashcroft from his prison cell in Florence, Colorado offering to provide a complete account of his knowledge of and participation in the Oklahoma City bombing while revealing the names and roles of individuals never pursued by the American justice system.

If Ashcroft did not believe Nichols capable of telling the truth, or if he did not want to spend his own time on a potentially fruitless trip to Colorado, one would think the Attorney General ... Continue Reading:The FBI and its "untouchable" Oklahoma City bombing informant

Ron Paul: 'I had some responsibility' for controversial newsletters

By Geneva Sands-Sadowitz - 12/29/11

Ron Paul said Thursday that he accepts "some responsibility" for controversial newsletters played up by his opponents for the GOP presidential nomination, but downplayed the importance of the issue to voters.

"These were sentences that were put in, I think it was a total of eight or 10 sentences and it was bad stuff - it, it wasn't a reflection of my views at all," said Paul in response to a caller's question on WHO's Jan Mickelson radio show in Iowa. "I think it was terrible. It was tragic and I had some responsibility because the [letter went out under my name]."

Savage: Paul, Gingrich 'destroying Republican brand'

Contends they're ruining chance of only GOP candidate who can beat Obama

Presidential candidates Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich are destroying an already-weakened "Republican brand," increasing President Obama's chance of being re-elected next fall, says nationally syndicated talk-radio host Michael Savage.

"Romney is so silent, Gingrich is so dirty and Ron Paul is so crazy that Obama is surging," Savage told his "Savage Nation" audience last night.

Savage believes Mitt Romney is the only candidate in the GOP field capable of beating Obama, although he acknowledges that most conservatives don't find the former Massachusetts governor appealing.

"Of course Romney is a liberal Republican. Of course he is in the tradition of middle-of-the-roaders. Of course Romney is a milquetoast, and of course we would like someone more conservative," Savage said.

"However, I am a pragmatist," he emphasized. "Romney might be electable - although I'm not sure after Gingrich has gotten through with him - while Paul is unelectable, and Gingrich is so soiled with dirt that he is contemptible beyond being unelectable."

Savage said Gingrich "has so much baggage and is so old that his suitcase doesn't even have wheels on it."

Gingrich even looks like the prototypical corrupt politician, Savage said.

"If you were Steven Spielberg casting for the image of a Beltway bandit ... corrupt, insider politician, you couldn't do any better than Gingrich," he said.

Ron Paul voted against a bill that would prohibit protest at military funerals. Basically, Ron Paul put the rights of a fringe Christian group over the rights of our fallen soldiers.

Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act (Pub.L. 109-228, 120 Stat. 387, enacted May 29, 2006) is an Act of Congress that prohibits protests within 300 feet (90 m) of the entrance of any cemetery under control of the National Cemetery Administration (a division of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs) from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after a funeral. Penalties for violating the act are up to $100,000 in fines and up to one year imprisonment.

The Act was sponsored by Mike Rogers, a Republican congressman from Michigan. It was introduced in large part to combat the campaign by Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church, of Topeka, Kansas. Phelps and his supporters regularly demonstrated at the funerals of American service members who were killed in the war in Iraq, on the grounds that the deaths are divine retribution for social tolerance of homosexuality. While protest is normally protected by the First Amendment, fighting words are not.[1]

The Act was approved by the House via roll call vote with an overwhelming majority of 408 to 3. Ron Paul (R-TX), David Wu (D-OR) and Barney Frank (D-MA) voted against the Act, opposing it on civil liberties and constitutional grounds. Twenty-one members of the House of Representatives did not vote. Barney Frank said of the vote, "I think it's very likely to be found unconstitutional. It's true that when you defend civil liberties you are typically defending people who do obnoxious things... You play into their hand when you let them provoke you into overdoing it. I don't want these thugs to claim America is hypocritical."[2]

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) opposed the legislation, saying that the Act was unconstitutional and that it would not stand up in court. They said of a similar ban in Kentucky, "The ACLU lawsuit recognizes that Kentucky has an interest in showing respect and compassion for the deceased and for their families, but argues that sections of these laws go too far in prohibiting peaceful protests."[3]

The Senate passed the bill unanimously. It was promptly signed into law by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2006.[4]

Ron Paul Locks Up Coveted David Duke Endorsement (Video)

Former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke Says He's Voting For Ron Paul: He Understands The "Powers Of International Zionism" - Weasel Zippers

Here's Duke meeting with Ron Paul's Iranian ally Mahmoud Ahamdinejad.

Via PolitickerNY:

Ron Paul was a hot topic this week on the talk radio show hosted by prominent white supremacist Don Black and his son Derek. Mr. Black said he received Mr. Paul'scontroversial newsletters when they were first published about two decades ago and described how the publications were perceived by members of the white supremacist movement. Former KKK Grand Wizard and Louisiana Congressman David Duke also phoned in to explain why he's voting for Mr. Paul.

"Everybody, all of us back in the 80s and 90s, felt Ron Paul was, you know, unusual in that he had actually been a Congressman, that he was one of us and now, of course, that he has this broad demographic - broad base of support," Mr. Black said on his broadcast yesterday.

Ron Paul Tells Iowa Voters Iran Needs Nuclear Weapons To "Gain Respect" From Israel, U.S. Sanctions Are "Act Of War"

December 29th, 2011

Los Angeles Times:

Defending himself against charges of isolationism, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul told voters in Iowa on Thursday that western sanctions against Iran are "acts of war" that are likely to lead to an actual war in the Middle East.

Paul, one of the leading contenders to win next week's Iowa caucuses, said Iran would be justified in responding to the sanctions by blocking the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. He compared the western sanctions to a hypothetical move by China to block the Gulf of Mexico, which Americans would consider an act of war.

He also said he would not respond militarily to keep the strait open - because he would not consider it an act of war against the U.S. But if he were president, he would report to Congress on the issue, leaving it up to lawmakers to declare war if they wanted.

Florida Medicaid Reform Pilot: Good for Patients and Taxpayers

Florida's Medicaid Reform Pilot is pro-patient and pro-taxpayer, and the Obama Administration agrees.

In original research published by The Heritage Foundation and also submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) during the agency's deliberations, I showed that the program's patients are healthier and happier with their care and that Florida taxpayers saved more than $100 million each year of the program.

The Florida reforms work by giving patients a choice of the private health plan that works best for them. Enrollees can choose from plans with varied benefits and provider networks, and a monetary rewards system creates incentives for healthy, responsible behavior. By shifting away from failed policies of central planning toward a consumer-driven program, the program has been successful on a number of levels.

The waiver extension of Florida's patient-centered Medicaid reform preserves the expanded choices, incentives for healthy behavior, and increased health services that pilot patients have enjoyed for years. Pilot patients have better health outcomes and report higher satisfaction rates with their plans, their care, and their access to specialists than their counterparts who are confined to traditional Medicaid and commercial HMOs.

The bottom line with Florida's Medicaid Reform is that when the patient is the priority, government and HMO bureaucrats are finally held accountable. Costs flatten and patient health and satisfaction improves.

The decision by CMS reaffirms that Florida's Medicaid reform pilot is a national model for other states to achieve a healthier, happier Medicaid population at a lower cost to taxpayers. CMS should now move quickly to approve a planned statewide expansion of the reform so all Florida Medicaid patients can enjoy the program's success.

2011 YEAR IN REVIEW - CLICK HERE

As Judge Andrew Napolitano famously put it in a 2009 state sovereignty rally speech - "In the long history of the world, very few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its maximum hour of danger. This is that moment and you are that generation!"
