Hi team,

Come join us for the last Lansdale First Friday of 2011, Dec 2, at the parking lot on the corner of Main Street and Susquehannah Ave from 6-9pm. Here is the map:
http://g.co/maps/bbbky
THIS IS NOT THE USUAL LOCATION! We have a table where we answer questions for people wondering about the Tea Party. It helps that we have friendly faces and a cogent argument about the current topics. I'll bring coffee and hot chocolate!

Don't forget our upcoming meeting, Thursday Dec 8 from 7-9pm at the Rock Cafe/Church (857 Main St Harleysville). We'll update you on what we're doing/trying to do, and Tim will talk about the current status of redistricting and the electoral college. Otherwise, no speaker, just open forum type meeting with some fun Christmas holiday stuff Tea Party-style. Please bring something to eat if you can, let's make this a nice potluck gathering.

Thanks,
-Jim

Tytler Cycle

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

Friday, December 2, 2011

5:30 PM EST

Historians today commonly claim that the Constitution of 1787 marked a break with the Declaration of Independence of 1776, even speaking of two foundings.  This is both false and destructive of liberty.  In fact, the principles of the Declaration command the arrangements of the Constitution, and the arrangements of the Constitution embody the principles of the Declaration.  It is critical today to regain an understanding and love of the unity of these two grand documents.

Larry P. Arnn, the twelfth president of Hillsdale College, will address this question at Hillsdale College's next First Principles on First Fridays webcast.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Remember January 3rd, 2007 The Day The Democrats Took Over!

I wonder how many people know this?

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009 -- it was actually January 3rd 2007. The day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives & Senate, the start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

"For those of you who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault," think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

Remember the day.

RedState Morning Briefing

For December 2, 2011

1. Obama's Dual Deficits

On Monday, President Obama announced to the people of Europe that the United States stands "ready to do our part" to help Europe resolve its debt crisis.

If only he were so ready to do his part to solve the U.S. debt problem.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the report from the Bowles-Simpson Fiscal Commission, the 18 member group the president tasked with finding a path to deficit reduction. But after establishing the commission himself, the president brushed their recommendations aside and continued with his record spending.

Over the last three years, President Obama has proven that while he may talk a good game about debt-reduction, he's unwilling to truly lead on the issue. He once promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. And then he produced three annual budgets with record deficits.

When the deficit-reduction supercommittee struggled to fulfill its charge last month, did the president step in to offer leadership? No, he simply refused to get involved. It was politically inconvenient, his team warned.

2. Why the Club for Growth PAC is backing Mark Neumann in #WISEN

ne of the biggest pick-up opportunities for Republicans next year is going to be in Wisconsin, where the Democratic Senator Herb Kohl is retiring. There is a three-way primary, and the Club for Growth PAC has already endorsed one candidate.

That candidate has already been endorsed by Jim DeMint's Senate Conservative's Fund, Senator Rand Paul, and Senator Tom Coburn.

His name is Mark Neumann, and he was tea party before being tea party was cool.

Erick has written many times on here about how conservatives need to "hold the freaking line". Mark Neumann's already been there in Congress as an original member of the class of '94, and he's done it under enormous pressure from the big-spending establishment.

Here's one example: in 1995 Mark fought against a Republican spending bill, and Republican leaders, including the uber-powerful Bob Livingston, informed him they were going to kick him off the Appropriations Committee as punishment.

3. Andy Stern. Scab for the Chinese.

Before you ask: I was raised in a union household. I know precisely what that word means, and I am using it precisely as my late father the local union president would have used it if he had lived to read this Wall Street Journal article by former SEIU boss Andy Stern. Let me summarize said article: I, Andy Stern, am a cheap date* who can be easily persuaded to publicly abandon support for the most successful economic/fiscal system in human history in exchange to a free trip to the Great Wall of China. But ignore for right now Stern's unfortunate (for him) timing in writing a remarkably servile paean to the planned Chinese economy at precisely (I'm fond of that word this morning, it seems) the moment when the Chinese economy is looking alarmingly fragile to the rest of the world. Let's instead talk about the state of organized labor in the People's Republic of China, shall we?

4. So, Whose House is it Anyway?

Last year, the American people voted overwhelmingly for a Republican House of Representatives. Based upon their campaign pledges, the prevailing expectation of a "Republican House" was a body of revitalized Republicans who would not fund Obamacare and Dodd-Frank, downsize Freddie/Fannie, oppose appropriator-concocted omnibus bills, and fight for at least some of their priorities in the Ryan budget.

A year later, the prevailing sentiment amongst the GOP ruling class within the House is antithetical to those ideals. First it was the minibus; then it was the omnibus; now there's talk about a megabus (coupled with unemployment benefits and tax extenders). Instead of demanding that Democrats pass a proper budget and allow both chambers to vote on one bill at a time, they are willing to genuflect before Harry Reid and Senate Democrats. The fact that we are running late on appropriations is not the fault of Republicans, and the American people know that. Why reward Democrats for their insouciance towards our budget process by granting them all the major policy riders and spending levels?

5. Egypt 1 - Globalism 0

Let's stipulate upfront that the Muslim Brotherhood's Reagan-like domination of Egypt's Parliamentary Elections is probably an international setback to the United States, Israel and most of Southern Europe. Results thus far encompass areas that were probably most friendly to the Facebook Revolutionaries and the Western World they represented.

Amongst the cosmopolitan voters over at Starbucks, the Muslim Brotherhood holds leads in 50% of the seats. Their closest competition is an Islamist Party that caters to the Salafi School of Islam. The votes taking place in the coming days will be in the Egyptian countryside where The Muslim Brotherhood may well play Mitt Romney to a way more traditionalist Salafi alternative. The Facebook Revolutionaries will have gone from overthrowing a military junta to depending upon the Egyptian Army to protect them from being beaten down like a bunch of Coptic Christians.

6. The Horserace

We are a month away from the actual horserace, but it has been going on a while. I have said repeatedly that the race is Mitt Romney's to lose. It looks like he just might lose it.

The race is Romney's to lose because the race has settled against his favor. The race has settled in "Not Romney's" favor. The problem, though, is "Not Romney" is not on the ballot. Because the 75% of Republican voters who do not want Mitt Romney cannot settle on an alternative, Mitt holding steady at second place benefits him. The 75% will divide up around him while his 25% holds steady.

But few of us, including me, could see Newt's resurgence. Brought on in an unusually debate heavy campaign season, the money has started pouring in and Newt has risen to replace Romney. Not only that, but Newt's rise has seen Romney's numbers start to fall. There is panic in the Romney camp.

Herman Cain's implosion has prompted more consolidation away from Romney toward Gingrich.

The question now is can Gingrich overcome his Sisyphean legacy? Gingrich historically has reached the top of the political pile only to spectacularly roll back down it. Conservatives in the 90?s came to loath him as an obstruction to conservative dominance. During the George W. Bush years, Gingrich charted a third way that is now starting to come back on him.

If Gingrich can weather the storm for the next three weeks, it becomes Newt Gingrich's race to lose. History is against him. The voters, so far, are for him. Waiting off stage for his second close up should the voters break out the hook for Gingrich is a governor from Texas - the man who inherited Gingrich's original campaign team.

We'll get into it all in today's Horserace.

The Donkey is Dead
Once upon a time a mad Caliph demanded of an old servant of his that he teach a donkey to talk for his amusement. If he refused, he would be put to death. If he failed he would be put to death as well. The old servant shrugged and asked for a year's time in which to complete the task. When other servants asked him why he had accepted, he answered. "A year is a long time. Either the Caliph will die, the donkey will die, or the donkey will learn to speak."

It's been quite a few years and the donkey is on its last legs. Obama has done to half a dozen countries what Carter did to Iran. The Islamists are in ascendance and the Caliphate genie has been let out of the bottle. Down the road they may well implode, but for the moment they are a rising political force in the region. The handful of Muslim countries that could have been accused of having moderate governments are gone now.

The posse of "Islamist Whisperers" in the press, lead among them Thomas Friedman, are busy looking for fallback positions. In his latest column he explains that the Islamist victories only came about because the dictators prevented "independent, secular, democratic parties" from developing. What he fails to understand is that the dictators were the only force maintaining a modicum of secularism, not because they were freethinking atheists, but because many of them had come out of the military and wanted a functioning state, instead of a theocracy.

In Turkey the military was the guarantor of secularism until the European Friedmans decided that it was much better to back the Islamist AKP and its democratic commitment to turning Turkey into an Islamist state. Now the generals are locked up and a sneering imbecile who bankrupted his country to funnel money to his associates and create a temporary economic boom is threatening Europe.

The Shah of Iran, Ben Ali and Mubarak are just a few of the badly flawed rulers who nevertheless maintained some measure of social freedom, rather than democracy, and paid the price when the idiots that we elected decided that the region would be better off if it were in the hands of the Islamists.

Secular and democratic are a contradiction in terms where the majority of the population supports the Islamists. The secular activists that Friedman and the Western media embraced are an out of touch elite that is more familiar with Twitter than with the ordinary Egyptian. They have more in common with the dictators they are campaigning to overthrow, and in many cases have familial connections to the ruling class. Had the West succeeded in shoving El-Baradei into the top spot sans election, then they might have taken power, otherwise they are going to remain in the Islamist shadow.

Obama Orders Government to Clean Up Terror Training The Danger Room

According to a Pentagon memorandum acquired by Danger Room, the White House's National Security Staff in October requested "Departments and Agencies" to "provide their screening process for CVE trainers and speakers." (.pdf) CVE refers to "Countering Violent Extremism," the euphemism du jour for the war on terrorism. The memorandum says that "recent media attention" led to the review, and contains a single attachment to demonstrate that attention: "Spencer Ackerman's Wired.com article."

The ongoing review will examine whether counterterrorism training material throughout the government is accurate and relevant, and will make sure the briefings given to federal field offices and local cops meet the same standards as FBI headquarters or the Pentagon.

Fellow patriots,

In studying Islamic theology and history, I've come to realize a few things about Islamists that the mainstream media and most Western politicians fail to understand:

  • Any infidel who is aware of Islam but has not become a Muslim is considered an enemy, and in rebellion to Allah, because he or she rejects Allah's authority by rejecting the Koran has Allah's holy word. ( Koran 2.193, 9.29-30 )
  • Deception is simply a tactic of war that is completely legitimate for Muslims to use against an enemy of Allah. ( Koran 8.30, 3.28, 5.21, 40.32, 61.5, though the clearest statement comes from the hadiths: Bukhari, Volume 4 Book 52 Verse 268: "Allah's Apostle said, "War is deceit." )
  • It is more important to advance the cause of Islam than it is to tell the truth.  This is the natural corollary to the two points above.

Therefore, an Islamist will only tell the truth to an infidel -- that is, any non-Muslim or insufficient Muslim -- when telling the truth serves to advance Islam.  An Islamist will lie in a heartbeat if the truth reflects negatively on Islam or Muslims, and any non-Muslim who takes an Islamist's word at face value is setting him or herself up for betrayal.  In fact, Muslims are famous for their ability to beat lie detector tests because lying to infidels creates no cognitive dissonance or embarrassment for them.

The Obama Administration has been coming to the aid of the Muslim Brotherhood both domestically and abroad, going so far as to make the ridiculous assertion that the Muslim Brotherhood is a "largely secular organization" ( http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/02/10/dni_james_clapper_muslim_brotherhood_a_largely_secular_group.html ).

Also, throughout the "Arab Spring," the Muslim Brotherhood has been claiming to be in favor of democracy.  However, it's becoming clear that this is simply a political calculation based their belief that a Muslim-majority nation will vote them into power, thus advancing Islam.  The sad fact is that they don't actually respect democracy as a force for good in itself, as is evident from the ways they are subverting Egypt's elections to gain political power.

Historically, from Algeria to Gaza to the West Bank to Iraq to Iran (ever hear of the Supreme Leader being elected by popular vote?), Islamist behavior has given rise to the quip, "One man, one vote, one time" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algerian_Civil_War ).  The election that puts Islamists into power is typically the last genuine election the country sees.

In parallel with the Muslim Brotherhood's maneuvering has been a campaign of harassment that has driven roughly 100,000 Christian Copts out of the country and killed numerous others, putting the ruthless world of Islamic politics on display, where one way to win an election is to physically eliminate the opposition.

Watch for the same tactics wherever "peaceful Muslims" seek to advance the Islamist cause, including the United States.  Anyone take a look at Detroit lately?

Dave

Muslim Brotherhood bends rules and expects to win big in Egypt

Stringer/Egypt / Reuters

Women holding umbrellas stand in line during rain under an election poster by Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood "The Freedom and Justice Party'" outside a polling station as they wait to cast their votes during parliamentary elections in Alexandria on Monday.

CAIRO - The Muslim Brotherhood has already started coloring outside the lines in order to win a majority in Egypt's parliamentary elections.

The organization, which gave its political branch the more ambiguous title, The Party of Freedom and Justice (FJP), is expected to win 40 percent of the seats in the lower house of parliament, according to analysts estimates.  Official results from the first round of voting will be announced Thursday.

Based on our own observations at polling stations across Cairo and anecdotal evidence, they seem to have won support at the polls by bending the rules in their favor.

Police investigate a

Complaint filed by Muslim woman wearing a hijab

Sharia law begins changing a society well before it actually becomes the law of the land. A good example is the self-imposed censorship exercised by most of the American media when they refused to publish the Danish cartoons satirizing Mohammed. In effect, the media capitulated to sharia's prohibition of anything perceived by Muslims as defamation of Mohammed.

We urge you to listen to this 6 minute radio interview. This is happening with increasing frequency across America. If the Muslim woman who filed the police complaint discussed in this interview is willing to do that to another Muslim, just think what that means for us non-Muslims!!

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 341 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Why Obama Says He MUST Be Reelected

Last night in New York City, Barack Obama, fresh from Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he once again attacked "the rich," held a fundraising dinner for folks who paid $35,800 a plate to hear him speak. (Just think of how many poor people they could have fed if they had donated $35,800 to a local food bank instead of to Obama!)

Obama told this select group, whom he normally might refer to as "fat cats," the number one reason why he needs to be reelected. Is it world peace? Poverty? Racial reconciliation? Ending income inequality? Or creating jobs? Wrong on all counts!

Obama reminded the crowd that ObamaCare will not be fully implemented until 2014. "And so," he said, "we're going to have to implement the Affordable Care Act in 2014 and that means I've got to win in 2012."

Funny, but that is one of the main reasons why he MUST be defeated!

OWS vs. The Tea Party

From the moment the Occupy Wall Street crowd first showed up in Zuccotti Park, Democrats and their liberal media allies were instantly infatuated with the radical movement. OWS was trumpeted as the left's answer to the Tea Party. And while the media were engaging in all kinds of ludicrous comparisons that attempted to romanticize the OWS mobs, the far more revealing contrasts between the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street were ignored.

For example, the Tea Party movement, as the name implies, took its inspiration from our nation's founding and has a deep reverence for America's cultural history and heritage. It is genuinely representative of mainstream American values, especially the rule of law and respect for private property.

While Democrats and the media ridiculed the Tea Party as an "extreme" movement, it was Occupy Wall Street -- not the Tea Party -- that was endorsed by both the American Nazi and Communist Parties.

For the moment, big city Democrat mayors are tiring of the OWS extremists. In Los Angeles, the cops moved in just after midnight on Tuesday and arrested nearly 300 people. In their wake, the Occupiers left behind a wasteland. The Los Angeles Times reports that "crews in the hazmat suits" have collected 30 tons of trash and filth. Sure people have a right to protest, but they don't have a right to destroy property and create public health hazards.

The left just makes a mess of everything it does -- whether it's Occupy Wall Street, the labor unions or Barack Obama.

By the way, the Occupy movement has been associated with more than 5,000 arrests! How do you think the media would react if 5,000 Tea Partiers had been arrested?

Egypt Sinking

Last year the world media aimed their collective cameras at one square in Cairo where hundreds of thousands of Egyptians were demanding freedom. Big media commentators assured us that it was a new day in the Middle East. I remember the interviews with little Egyptian girls flashing the "V" sign for victory and telling viewers that with Mubarak gone Egyptian children like them would be able to grow up to be doctors, scientists or even movie stars! Those of us who suggested that crowds in one public square in Cairo do not necessarily represent the heartland of Egypt were brushed aside.

Now Egypt is voting, and early results suggest that in the newly "liberated" nation radical Islam will call the shots. The future for religious minorities, as well as little Egyptian girls, is likely to be bleak.

Preliminary results from the first round of voting shows, not unexpectedly, a strong finish by the Muslim Brotherhood with perhaps as much as 40% of the vote. But the Brotherhood looks progressive when compared to the Salafists who are doing surprisingly well too. The Salafists have been implicated in violent attacks on the Christian minority in Egypt. (Perhaps it is time for another exodus!)

The Salafists follow the Saudi brand of Islam and believe women should not participate in voting or public life. According to some reports, they received as much as 25% of the vote.

Elections will continue for several months, but it appears that the Brotherhood and the Salafists likely have a solid majority and could run the Egyptian Parliament. If so, you will see a less free Egypt that is more hostile to the U.S. and Israel.

Democracy takes more than elections. Most of all it requires an electorate that believes in pluralism, freedom of religion and the dignity and value of all citizens, including women. As of now it appears that electorate does not exist in Egypt.

Green Gingrich? Newt contradicts self on 'climate change': Calls global warming ad 'mistake,' but see what else politician peddled.      Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has recently offered seemingly contradictory views on "climate change," claiming to oppose climate taxation while partnering with a group that promotes such legislation.

The former House speaker earlier this week called his partnering with Nancy Pelosi on an environmental mission a "mistake." However, last year he not only defended the move but said he would have done it again.

In a Fox News interview with Bill OReilly earlier this week, Gringrich was asked about a 2008 commercial starring himself and Pelosi in which the duo urged "action" to address "climate change."

Amb Prosor addresses UNGA debate on "The Question of Palestine"

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations voted to partition then British-Mandate Palestine into two states: one Jewish, one Arab. Two states for two peoples.

Mr. President,

A great Jewish sage once wrote, "The truth can hurt like a thorn, at first; but in the end it blossoms like a rose."

His words came to my mind today. His insight could really benefit many in this hall.

It takes a well of truth to water the seeds of peace. Yet, we continue to witness a drought of candor in this body's discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. On this historic day, real facts in the General Assembly remain few and far between.

For any who have been here on November 29th before, today is déjà vu. Some of you may have noticed that some minor changes have been taking place in the Middle East lately, but any changes in this body's resolutions condemning Israel are very, very rare. Indeed, it didn't take a creative writer to craft the language in these resolutions. The exact same text is copied and pasted, year after year - much of it dating back five decades.

Gingrich amnesty would not give citizenship but would give U.S. jobs to 3.5 million illegal aliens, says Pew Hispanic Center

The most recent polling finds that Republican voters have elevated Newt Gingrich to presidential frontrunner status. But it is difficult to believe that those supporting him agree with his amnesty plan, or are even aware that his proposal sounds like it would give U.S. jobs and residency to around 3.5 million illegal aliens (according to a new Pew Hispanic Center study). Unless Gingrich supporters push him to back off, he is promising a bigger amnesty than the giant blanket amnesty of 1986 that was supposed to be the first and last one ever.

(Watch the recording of our webcast yesterday that focused on the details of Gingrich's official immigration platform.)

Former House Speaker Gingrich agrees with Presidents Bush and Obama that the only major options for illegal aliens are deporting them or legalizing them (choices that nearly all mainstream media also insist on). His official immigration platform gives no hint of recognizing that there is a third option -- Attrition Through Enforcement -- that eliminates the jobs and benefits magnets for illegal aliens so that they will self-deport back to their home countries. Thus, Gingrich is at odds with most of the other GOP candidates and most GOP Members of Congress who favor the Attrition option.

Since boldly advocating hi s legalization plan in a debate last week, he has responded to critics by telling us to read his official 10 Steps to a Legal Nation and his 7-Point Plan. Weve read and studied both and are more frightened than ever.

Entertainment Adam Carolla Breaks Down Occupy Movement: 'F**king Self-Entitled Monsters'

  • Posted on November 30, 2011 by Tiffany Gabbay

[Editor's note: you can hear an edited version of the rant here.]

Some people have a way of breaking down an issue, laying it out in its simplest, most rudimentary form. Comic and podcaster Adam Carolla did just that recently when he unleashed what many conservatives will hail an acerbic yet painfully accurate debunking of the Occupy movement and its self-ascribed motivations.  The nearly ten minute long lampooning of America's new "f-king self-entitled monsters" who "think the world owes them a living" is peppered with very strong language, still, Carolla's observations are worth listening through to the end.

Among the many highlights in Carolla's rant, he asks why the top "1 percent" of America paying 50 percent of all income tax in the country is not good enough for the Occupiers. He also observes how "envy" never before existed among Americans the way it does now, and that it, along with "shame" plays a crucial role in the Occupiers' motivation and self-justification.

Reflecting on how things used to be "back in the day," Carolla states:

"You took guys who built something, and you said 'there's a guy who accomplished something.' You didn't say, 'that guy didn't pay his fair share.' That guy paid millions of dollars last year, and you paid shi*t and you're pissed at him?"

You can listen to Carolla's podcast below. We caution again, he uses very strong language:

Morning Bell: Will the President Protect Religious Rights?

Sometimes the White House gets the easy questions wrong. On Tuesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney was asked about a controversial mandate stemming from Obamacare that would require religious employers to provide insurance coverage for birth control despite religious objections.

The regulation in question, released by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), falls under the category of "preventative services" and would require almost all health insurance plans to cover everything from all FDA-approved contraceptives to sterilizations-without cost to the insured. The mandate includes coverage of controversial drugs like ella-which can abort an early pregnancy. Religious employers with serious moral objections to providing coverage for such services will find little help in the mandate's narrow religious exemption. Since it was first proposed in August, the mandate has received harsh criticism with regard to its treatment of conscience rights.

December 1, 2011     Did the Obama Administration Put Politics Before Trafficking Victims?

This morning in Congress, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a full hearing to investigate claims of gross politicization of a grant process that stripped funding for a group effectively serving human trafficking victims.

In late September, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) ceased funding for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) work with victims of sex slavery and trafficking. The bishops' group had been using HHS funds to assist trafficking victims since 2006. While HHS has not specified a reason for denying USCCB further funding, some have wondered whether the Obama administration's pandering to a pro-abortion agenda influenced the process.

Back in July, HHS released the grant competition requirements, stating the department would give "strong preference" to applicants that offer referrals for "the full range of legally permissible gynecological and obstetric care" - including referrals for abortion. USCCB, in accordance with its religious beliefs, has a long-standing policy of refusing to refer trafficking victims for contraception or abortion.

USCCB provides a wide range of necessary services to victims including housing, medical assistance, and mental-health care and has successfully partnered with more than 150 religious and secular groups to care for over 2,700 victims of human trafficking. According to sources within the HHS, however, the success of USCCB's efforts in saving and serving trafficking victims apparently did not warrant the department's "strong preference."

An investigation by the Washington Post found that USCCB lost the grant competition despite having received higher scores of effectiveness than other grant competitors. Of the three groups awarded funding by HHS this fall, two of the applicants "scored significantly below the Catholic bishops' application," according to Washington Post sources.

George Sheldon, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Administration of Children and Families, who testified at today's hearing, denied prejudice against the bishops' group in the grant process. Some career staffers at HHS, however, have apparently expressed concern that political appointees were involved in reshaping the grant process and seemed intent on denying the trafficking assistance funding to the bishops' group.

From the Washington Post investigative report:

In the case of the trafficking contract, senior political appointees at HHS stepped in to award the new grants to the bishops' competitors, overriding an independent review board and career staffers who had recommended that the bishops be funded again, according to federal officials and internal HHS documents...

The decision not to fund the bishops this time has caused controversy inside HHS. A number of career officials refused to sign documents connected to the grant, feeling that the process was unfair and politicized, individuals familiar with the matter said.

If evidence gathered by the Oversight Committee points to HHS discrimination against the Catholic group, this wouldn't be the first time the Obama administration has sacrificed protection of conscience rights to achieve its political goals.

Faith-based entities, like USCCB, should be free to work according to deeply held beliefs - the same beliefs that spur concern for those in need in the first place. This most recent episode in an escalating battle over the conscience rights of faith-based entities suggests attacks on institutional religious freedom may be far from over.

The Second Stage of Medicare Reform: Moving to a Premium Support Program

By Robert Moffit

One thing is certain: Regardless of congressional action or inaction, Medicare beneficiaries, especially baby boomers, will pay more for their benefits and government will pay less. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA), for example, Medicare beneficiaries face major premium increases, higher drug costs, and guaranteed reductions in access to care resulting from payment reductions to hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes, even hospice care. Deeply flawed Medicare payment systems are also on automatic pilot to cut reimbursements to physicians. Medicare provider payments are on a downward slope toward Medicaid reimbursement levels, meaning that many Medicare patients, just like Medicaid patients today, will have serious trouble finding providers who will take care of them.

Heritage Fix Health Care Policy

Congress Must Still Do its Job, Supercommittee or Not

The congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, called the Supercommittee, announced last week that it has failed to meet its statutory duty to recommend deficit reduction to Congress. But the overspending problem is still here. Congress does not get to quit on the American people or stall for more time. Congress must still act to get federal spending under control, in a thoughtful, intelligent manner that meets the needs of the American people.

Mindless across-the-board cuts to government spending - especially cuts that gut the nation's defenses when America already faces a military readiness crisis - is not the way to proceed.  Nor is a job-killing tax hike that grows the government instead of the economy.

Instead, Congress needs to rest a tight federal budget on three pillars:  (1) drive down federal spending, including fixing entitlement programs, toward a balanced budget, (2) maintain our ability to protect America, and (3) do so without raising taxes. It can be done. The Heritage Foundation showed how with Saving the American Dream: The Heritage Plan to Fix the Debt, Cut Spending, and Restore Prosperity.

The burden of leadership rests squarely on five people: President Barack Obama (D-IL), Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Over the years, Congress has tried one procedural gimmick after another - the Supercommittee is only the latest gimmick to fail - to try to avoid the hard votes necessary to cut spending. There is no more time for gimmicks.

The Leadership and other Members of Congress must explain to the American people the hard, cold facts about the federal government's overspending. America is more than $15 trillion in debt and government spending accounts for nearly one-fourth of what our economy produces every year, and both numbers are getting worse. America needs less debt, less spending, and less government.

The role of Members of Congress is not to perpetuate themselves in office - their role is to support and defend the Constitution and do what the American people need done. Read more on The Foundry >>

Georgia Democrat voter fraudsters in training fail their first big test

Dec 01, 2011 05:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

"District Attorney indicts 12 minor league Democrat voter fraudsters."

Of course this was NOT the headline over a story about the latest Democrat voter fraud to come to light but with an honest media it might have been.

The inordinately high number of returned absentee ballots in last year's Brooks County Georgia School Board Election created eye popping "results" and raised red flags for the local District Attorney, Joe Mulholland.

During a recent announcement about the progress of his investigation, Mr. Mulholland said, "As a result of their grand jury findings, 12 individuals were indicted in that particular matter and we will be trying that case in a court of judicial law instead of a court of public opinion."

Amateurs : take note: Donald Duck's ballot will send you to prison!

Chicago aldermen provide virtual immunity from prosecution for......Chicago aldermen!

Nov 30, 2011 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

 By Doug Book, staff writer

One thing can certainly be said for Barack Hussein Obama-he learned his conniving,  criminal ways in a land which gave us some of the very best of connivers and criminals.  In addition to the legendary vote rigging,  power abusing,  tax stealing,  favor bartering ways of Chicago's infamous Mayors Daley,  30 members of the city's perpetually all-Democrat parade of aldermen have been convicted of federal crimes over the past 30 years.

Three others were indicted but had one last laugh at the expense of fleeced constituents by dying before their trial could begin.

Chicago's 50 aldermen make up the City Council,  Chicago's legislative assembly.  Its presiding officer is the mayor.  Elected to 4 year terms, these men and women who represent the 50 wards into which the city is divided are afforded ample opportunity for theft,  favor trading, bribery and blackmail, thereby enabling their collection of vast sums in the age old Chicago way.  ... Entitlement Reform Revolution

This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published November 30, 2011 on The American Spectator website.

In New Hampshire on November 21, Newt Gingrich, who has just been endorsed by the Manchester Union Leader, unveiled sweeping entitlement reform proposals, discussed in a comprehensive, extensive campaign position paper now available at Newt.org. Those proposals reflect closely my own work over many years, discussed in detail in my recent book, America's Ticking Bankruptcy Bomb.

These reforms taken together would reduce federal spending over an extended period of years by half from what it would be otherwise, solving America's entitlement and fiscal crisis. Yet, these reforms are politically feasible, indeed even popularly appealing, because seniors and the poor would actually gain from them. In fact, they are all based on already enacted reforms, in the U.S. or elsewhere, that have been proven to work in the real world. Remember that even libertarian godfather Friedrich Hayek supported the concept of safety nets for the truly needy, as did Reagan.

The key is that the reforms are all based on modernizing our old fashioned, tax and redistribution entitlement programs to rely on 21st century modern capital, labor, and insurance markets instead. Through such fundamental structural reforms, changing the way the programs work and operate, we can achieve all of the social goals of these entitlement programs far more effectively, serving seniors and the poor far better, at just a fraction of the current cost of those programs. Consequently, we can actually achieve vastly greater reductions in spending than we could ever hope to achieve simply by trying to cut benefits.

Ending Income Inequality

This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published November 30, 2011 on Townhall.com.

Benefiting from a hint from an article titled "Is Harry Potter Making You Poorer?", written by my colleague Dr. John Goodman, president of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis, I've come up with an explanation and a way to end income inequality in America, possibly around the world. Joanne Rowling was a welfare mother in Edinburgh, Scotland. All that has changed. As the writer of the "Harry Potter" novels, having a net worth of $1 billion, she is the world's wealthiest author. More importantly, she's one of those dastardly 1-percenters condemned by the Occupy Wall Streeters and other leftists.

How did Rowling become so wealthy and unequal to the rest of us? The entire blame for this social injustice lies at the feet of the world's children and their enabling parents. Rowling's wealth is a direct result of more than 500 million "Harry Potter" book sales and movie receipts grossing more than $5 billion. In other words, the millions of "99-percenters" who individually plunk down $8 or $9 to attend a "Harry Potter" movie, $15 to buy a "Harry Potter" novel or $30 to buy a "Harry Potter" Blu-ray Disc are directly responsible for contributing to income inequality and wealth concentration that economist and Nobel laureate Paul Krugman says "is incompatible with real democracy." In other words, Rowling is not responsible for income inequality; it's the people who purchase her works.

We just can't blame the children for the unfairness of income inequality. Look at how Wal-Mart Stores generated wealth for the Walton family of Christy ($25 billion), Jim ($21 billion), Alice ($21 billion) and Robson ($21 billion). The Walton family's wealth is not a result of ill-gotten gains, but the result of Wal-Mart's revenue, $422 billion in 2010. The blame for this unjust concentration of wealth rests with those hundreds of millions of shoppers worldwide who voluntarily enter Wal-Mart premises and leave dollars, pounds and pesos.

Holy Rudolph?

This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published November 28, 2011 in The Washington Times.

Atheists must be the most fragile peaches in the basket. They're always getting bruised by the slightest exposure to public displays that remind them of Christmas, God, the Ten Commandments or, worst of all, Jesus.

Just as pathetic are the atheist enablers who are complicit in doing away with any reminders of America's Christian heritage, even secular symbols. For example, the Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, S.C., recently decided that a visit by Santa Claus might upset nonbelievers. Perhaps they feared it could lead to heart attacks or perhaps even inspire local militant imams to issue a ruling that may include a fatwa . You can never be sure what kind of chaos a visit by Santa could unleash.

After the public rebelled, the center said Santa can squeeze down its chimney, but we'll have none of that overtly religious stuff such as creches, angels, Christmas greetings - anything that brings joy to the world.

On Nov. 18, the Christian legal group Liberty Counsel sent a letter reminding center director Andrew S. Kraft about how freedom of religion works in America under the Constitution and how his actions constitute viewpoint discrimination. Let's hope Dr. Kraft will grow a big heart like the Grinch did in Whoville.

Obama's Thanksgiving Proclamation Strikingly Different From Predecessors'

This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue was published November 23, 2011 on the American Thinker website.

Psychiatrist Karl Menninger, founder of the Menninger Clinic, raised the question, "Whatever became of sin?" in his 1973 book title. There was a time when U.S. presidents made certain that our sin didn't fade from our national conscience. Not this year.

The Huffington Post reviewed the Thanksgiving Proclamations of 26 U.S. Presidents from Washington to Barack Obama, and concluded that they're "strikingly the same":

"Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor..."

With these words, written by George Washington in 1789, an American holiday tradition was born. Ever since, in times of peace and prosperity, war and want, American Presidents have offered gratitude to God while calling on all Americans to gather in humble praise. Though the language of thanks has changed in the past 222 years, the content of these presidential prayers remains strikingly the same.

Carter and Obama: An Unfair Comparison

Carter was inept, but Obama is totally incompetent

"[T]ake care that the laws be faithfully executed ... support the Constitution ... faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and ... preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" --Article II Section 1, 3 of the Constitution, on the duties of the Executive

Back in 1979, our nation was in severe decline.

We were in the throes of a crippling recession, any hope of economic growth had been blunted by excessive taxation and regulation, and fuel prices were high -- the result of Middle East turmoil, particularly in Iran, which posed a grave threat to our interests and to regional stability.

To make matters worse, the nation was experiencing a crisis of confidence under the leadership of a Democrat president, Jimmy Carter, who subscribed to the errant notion that government was the solution to our problems.

Fast-forward three decades, and there are remarkable parallels between Carter's failed leadership and that of Barack Hussein Obama today. In the words of that sage Yogi Berra, "It's déjà vu all over again."

As with Carter and his 1979 "Great Malaise" speech, Obama has even resorted to blaming the American people for the nation's ills. Most recently, Obama noted, "The way I think about it is, you know, this is, uh, you know, a great, uh, great country that had gotten a little soft, and you know, we didn't have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last, uh, couple of decades. ... Over the last decade, we became a country that relied too much on what we bought and consumed."

That assessment prompted immediate comparisons. "A second Obama term means making this malaise permanent," said former RNC chairman and current Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. Conservative columns were abuzz with the similarities between the two.

To the point, Newt Gingrich rightly protested, "We don't have a problem with America being too soft, we have a problem with Barack Obama just being plain wrong."

Comparing Obama with Carter is, frankly, an insult to Carter. Though Carter had an abysmal record, by any measure Obama has yet to rise to even Carter's level of ineptitude.

Post Your Opinion: How are Obama and Carter different?

It might be argued that Carter's intentions were good, but we all know where roads paved with good intentions can lead. Conversely, Obama's intentions are anything but good. Indeed, he is clearly intent on undermining Essential Liberty and replacing free enterprise with his brand of authoritarian democratic socialism.

Carter's White House bio notes: "His story is the American story -- values from the heartland, a middle-class upbringing in a strong family, hard work and education as the means of getting ahead, and the conviction that a life so blessed should be lived in service to others."

Actually, that's the opening text of Barack Obama's bogus bio, as posted on the current White House website.

"Values from the heartland"? Not unless one believes such values are reflected in the mentoring young Obama received from Communist Frank Marshall Davis, his religious mentoring by black ethnocentrist Jeremiah Wright, or his political mentoring by Leftist radicals Michael Pfleger, William Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Khalid al-Mansour, Rashid Khalidi, Bob Creamer and Saul Alinsky. Perhaps those values were instilled by the Chicago political machine and Obama's friends Rod Blagojevich and Tony Rezko.

"A strong family"? Obama's family -- if it can be called that -- is a textbook model for dysfunctional development, highlighted by abandonment, first by his Muslim Kenyan father, then by his atheist mother who moved to Indonesia with her second Muslim husband.

Post Your Opinion: What are Obama's values?

Thus, Obama's White House bio more accurately reflects Carter's values and upbringing.

I first met Jimmy Carter during his presidency when, as a young uniformed patrolman, I walked perimeter gun with his security detail. In the years after his presidential debacle, I had extended visits with Carter on several occasions, which allowed for strong but friendly debates, and significant insights into his character and worldview.

Unlike Obama's faux family façade, Carter's story is the American story, one defined by gratitude, faith and a desire to serve others. He grew up in an intact traditional family in the rural farming community of Plains, Georgia. He was the product of generations of salt-of-the-earth Americans. A good student, Carter gained entrance to the United States Naval Academy in 1943. He later served under Admiral Hyman Rickover, developing nuclear power plants for submarines. After his Navy years, he became a successful peanut farmer, and he served two terms as a Georgia state senator before being elected governor and then president. He was, and remains, a genuine Christian, and he actually earned his 2002 Nobel Prize for his lifelong pursuit of human rights around the world.

That having been said, Carter also earned the lowest job approval ratings of any president since voter confidence was first measured. His failure as a president was largely the result of a severe leadership deficit, compounded by the fact that his own political party turned its back on him. Carter refused to submit to the political machinations of Demo House Speaker Tip O'Neill or Demo Senator Ted Kennedy. Consequently, he was left out to dry.

Fortunately, the Carter trend was abruptly reversed with the election of Ronald Reagan.

This week, Obama's presidential job approval index, a measure of public opinion and confidence in Obama and his administration, set a new record low, sinking well below the standard set by Jimmy Carter at the end of his third year in office.

Then, Carter was at 51 percent, but Obama crashed through that barrier and is now at 43 percent, dropping below even the all-time low of 44 percent set by Lyndon Johnson. To his credit, Obama achieved this dubious distinction the old fashioned way: He earned it.

For the record, since Carter's presidency, at similar junctures in their presidential tenure, Ronald Reagan registered 54 percent, George H.W. Bush 52 percent, Bill Clinton 51 percent, and George W. Bush 55 percent.

Hand in hand with Obama's low approval rating is the Conference Board's consumer confidence index, which has been fluctuating between 40 and 55 points since July. This is the lowest confidence range since 1980 -- Carter's last year in office. And, as was the case with Carter, our economy is mired in another Crisis of Confidence.

Of course, it isn't likely that Obama will drop below 35 percent, given the current level of his entrenched socialized constituency, but some Democrat leaders are now whispering that Obama should give up his re-election bid. A pair of Demo pollsters is even calling this "The Hillary Moment."

Being the consummate case study in pathological narcissism, Obama isn't likely to step aside for the "good of the Party," much less the good of the nation. The resurgence of Populist Socialism will compel him to continue.

Indeed, the leader of the American Communist Party, Obama's most zealous constituency, proclaimed this week, "This is a volatile period. Battle lines are being drawn. Not for a while have things been so unhinged. A marked upswing, if not a qualitative turn in class and democratic struggles, is afoot. Sustained mass actions, civil disobedience, new levels of solidarity and consciousness, innovative tactics and slogans, and a complex array of social forces and organizations are reshaping the political landscape."

What America lacks most right now is authentic republican (little "r") leadership, and that is proving perilous both for our nation and for the rest of the world.

In a recent Air Force Academy address on leadership to our nation's next generation of military leaders, Gen. Mark Welsh concluded, "Leadership is a gift. It's given by those who follow. You have to be worthy of it."

Our nation's crisis of confidence, and the resulting precipitous decline of our economy, society and world standing, is irrevocably linked to Obama's leadership deficit, and that deficit is the consequence of his being wholly unworthy of the gift of leadership.

Ominously, Obama is on the campaign trail proclaiming, "I'm going to need another term to finish the job." If he dupes voters into electing him for another term, he will indeed, "finish the job."

Post Your Opinion: Can Obama win a second term?

National Right To Work Legal Defense

In just a few short weeks, National Right to Work Foundation attorneys will be confronting union lawyers at the U.S. Supreme Court...

...and the union bosses of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are on the run.

In fact, they're desperate to avoid an embarrassing loss that would put a major crimp in Big Labor's ability to misuse workers' forced dues for politics across the country
.

You see, in June, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of eight California civil servants, challenging a forced dues for politics scheme by an affiliate of the radical SEIU.

Now union officials want the Supreme Court to vacate the case and prevent them from delivering a crucial blow to an increasingly common Big Labor political fundraising tactic
.

The union bosses' cynical maneuver has forced the Foundation to throw extra resources into the case at a time when our strategic litigation program is already stretched thin due to the aggressively biased Obama National Labor Relations Board and union militancy on display from Wisconsin to Flordia to California.

That's why I need your continued help, but first let me explain what the Knox case is all about.

Back in 2005, California State Employees Association (CSEA) union chiefs demanded members and nonmembers alike pay a "special assessment" for a union political fund.

Specifically, union bosses seized workers' money to defeat ballot measures that would have limited their ability to force employees to pay for Big Labor's politics.

They said they had to have these "extra" millions to defeat the ballot initiatives...

...which they succeeded in doing.

That's because these ballot initiatives would have limited union bosses' monopoly power over government workers and their stranglehold on California taxpayers.

It was a classic forced dues for politics scheme -- an obvious move to skirt around established precedents won by Right to Work Foundation attorneys protecting workers from these kinds of compulsory-unionism schemes
.

The Supreme Court had already ruled in the Foundation's Hudson case that government sector union bosses must provide employees with an audited breakdown of the union's expenditures and an opportunity to opt out of paying any forced dues or fees used for politics.

But CSEA union bosses simply ignored the law with regard to the "special assessment" and denied workers any chance to opt out.

So Foundation attorneys filed a class-action lawsuit for eight California government workers, including two former union members, as representatives of more than 35,000 non-members forced to pay the political assessment.

A federal district court ruled against CSEA union bosses, ordering them to send a notice specifically about the assessment and refund any monies spent (plus interest) on union boss politics to non-members who exercise their right to refrain from subsidizing the union's political fund.

But union lawyers appealed to a Big Labor-friendly Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel, which rubber-stamped the forced-dues scheme.

But then the U.S. Supreme Court granted the Foundation attorney's request that it hear the case.

Because they fear that the Supreme Court will overturn the Ninth Circuit's decision, SEIU union chiefs have now taken the unusual -- but telling -- step to offer the more than 35,000 California state employees the opportunity to get a refund of the entire "special assessment" with interest.

And they've asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the case as moot.

The Big Labor hierarchy fears that a Foundation victory in the Knox case will invalidate all future schemes imposing "special assessments" for politics without giving non-members an opportunity to opt out.

Union bosses want to make this case go away.

Just take a look at Wisconsin. Earlier this year, Governor Scott Walker signed a bill into law curtailing the ill-gotten monopoly bargaining powers of government sector union bosses.

The new law also protects the Right to Work for most state and local government employees in Wisconsin, cutting off forced dues that prop up the union bosses' political power.

The union bosses fought back with angry protests and a recall campaign that ultimately failed to restore a forced-dues majority in the State Senate.

Now they're trying to recall Governor Walker himself and have sued in federal court.

It just goes to show you the lengths Big Labor will go -- and how much it will spend -- to protect its power over workers and taxpayers alike.

The Knox case is no different. We caught CSEA union bosses red-handed.

But while a refund of all illegally-seized dues to the victimized California state workers is an important victory, we can't back down now.

You see, even if the union bosses relent and return every dime plus interest, the fact remains that they shouldn't have taken the money in the first place.

The union bosses took the money to spend on politics, which they did. Independent-minded workers who objected to the union's political activity may find some solace in getting their money back, but the illegally-subsidized political speech can't be unspoken.

That's why they desperately want to avoid a ruling.

Big Labor's duplicity is a clear signal that we've got it running scared.

Of course, no one can be certain what will happen. But this case is clear, and our argument especially powerful.

However, the sudden rush of events has forced me to devote crucial staff resources to the new developments in this important case.

You know I am a careful steward of the trust you place in the Foundation when you contribute.

Your Foundation wins cases that no other group in America can or will undertake.

And that's why I count on you to help today by chipping in with a tax-deductible contribution of $10 or more.

A favorable U.S. Supreme Court ruling is vital to end this noxious union boss power play.

But it will take continuing action to kill off the scheme --root-and-branch -- in every county and state.

That's why I hope you will make every effort to chip in with a tax-deductible contribution of $10 or more.

Thank you for the trust you continue to place in me and your Foundation.

Sincerely,

Mark Mix

P.S. I expect that Big Labor's scheme to issue a "special assessment" to force state government workers to subsidize union boss politics will be derailed by Foundation attorneys at the U.S. Supreme Court.

And once the U.S. Supreme Court rules, your Foundation will rip out similar schemes from coast to coast
. Please support this critical project and all our legal aid cases by chipping in with a tax-deductible contribution of $10 or more.

Is Mitt Romney a Flip-Flopper?

Posted: 01 Dec 2011 11:17 AM PST

(John Hinderaker)

Well, sure, to some degree. There is no question that, like Ronald Reagan and the first President Bush, he migrated rightward on the social issues when he sought national office. Beyond that, though, the record is not so clear. The DNC has released a four-minute ad that tries to paint Romney as a serial flip-flopper. At the Washington Post, the Fact Checker, Glenn Kessler, evaluates the DNC's ad by assessing independently each of its ten charges.

Kessler's assessments, in my view, are admirably fair-minded. His conclusion:

So, out of ten items, we find only three correct, one uncertain, and then six that result in a total of 15 Pinocchios.

Four Pinocchios is the worst rating ("Whoppers") on Kessler's scale. He notes further that "For this kind of ad, three correct statements out of ten is unusual." By which I take it he means unusually bad.

The topics covered by the DNC ad are wide-ranging: the stimulus, abortion, Reagan's policies, health care, immigration, global warming, no new taxes, assault weapons, TARP, the auto bailout. In some cases, the DNC's claims rely on outrageous distortion of Romney's statements. More broadly, I think that a fair evaluation across a broad range of issues will show that while Romney's views on some issues have evolved, and like anyone else he has emphasized different themes at different times, his policy positions have not been notably inconsistent over the years. While flip-flopping is certainly a fair criticism to lodge against any politician, if true, Republicans should be careful not to tar one of their own with the sort of false claims that are propagated by the DNC.

Environmental Injustice, Hugh Hewitt Edition

Posted: 30 Nov 2011 07:52 PM PST

(John Hinderaker)

I wrote about the EPA's "environmental justice" initiative here, here and here. The environmental justice program is based on an executive order by Bill Clinton, which was mostly ignored until Barack Obama's EPA ran with it. The fundamental problem with "environmental justice," apart from the fact that no one has any idea what it is, is that the EPA has no legislative authority to pursue such an agenda. Accordingly, the agency is now using its permitting powers to coerce companies into taking actions for which there is no legal basis-for example, buying new homes, somewhere else, for people who live near industrial facilities like refineries. This is one more example of the extra-legal administrative state run amok; we have seen it to an unprecedented degree in the lawless Obama administration.

Hugh Hewitt knows as much as anyone about the EPA's depredations, and had me on his radio show for a segment tonight talking about the environmental justice issue. Here it is:

Obama's Re-Election Plan is an Exercise in Delusion

Seeing the curtain slowly but steadily descend on their socialist reign has apparently scared a few well-known Democrat analysts into publishing a plan to re-elect Barack Obama. Reading it, one can almost hear the socialist anthem, "The Internationale." The "Path to 270" (Pt270) plan denies the realities of the very demographics upon which it is [...]

Republicans Don't Understand our Two Simple Choices on Immigration

Dec 01, 2011 01:03 pm

When I listen to the presidential candidates debate immigration policy, I don't get the feeling that they understand the choice that we have to make, and that includes President Obama. It's a binary choice. We have to choose one of two options. Option One: Let everyone immigrate to the U.S. who wants to come here [...]

The Defining Issue of 2012 Will be Obama's Debt Crisis

Dec 01, 2011 01:02 pm

The 2012 political year is right around the corner, and the recent failure by the so-called "Super Committee" to reach agreement on $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction will re-cast the environment on Capitol Hill and shape the 2012 campaign. With divided control of Congress, and a 60-vote threshold in the U.S. Senate, major Congressional action [...]

New Challenge to Obama's Ballot Eligibility in Georgia

Dec 01, 2011 01:02 pm

Bob Unruh, WND.com Only a week after there was a formal hearing in the state of New Hampshire on a request to remove Barack Obama's name from the 2012 presidential primary election ballot over allegations of fraud, state officials in Georgia are facing a related request. Activist Carl Swensson, who runs the RiseUpForAmerica.com website, and [...]

I got a lump in my throat when I read this. I "grew up" thinking: patriotism, it is the AMERICAN way! I am glad to see that somebody saved these posters. The statement at the end says it all!

~ These were our parents ~

What in God's name have we let happen?

I guess we are the last generation to see, or even remember anything like these !

Whatever happened?

Political correctness (or "re-education") happened,

Lack of God's name happened,

Lack of personal responsibility happened,

Lack of personal integrity and honesty happened,

Lack of respect and loyalty to our country happened,

Lack of being an American happened.

Did all of these things die along with common sense?

Adam Carolla's epic OWS rant; tears 'Millennials' a new one

Adam Carolla delivered a rant of epic proportions on OWS and the millennials of today as a whole. It's lighting up the internet and with good reason - he says pretty much what's on everyone's mind when it comes to the greedy slugs occupying the streets in city after city. There's a ton of swearing in it, so put on the headphones if you're listening at work. There is an edited version but it's like 80% bleep -- but still, it's well worth the time. Try not to enjoy it too much. WATCH

Ed Schultz explodes over being named to 'Least Influential' list

Irrelevant TV broadcaster Ed Schultz was irate when he learned he'd landed on GQ's 'Least Influential' list (great idea, btw). Instead of coming up with something clever like, 'I'm happy to be on any list that includes the President of the United States' (Obama was named to the list) - Ed decided to dumpster dive into bizarro land. He angrily concocted a bizarre theory that somehow Anderson Cooper plotted with his 'GQ' buddies to get Ed's name on the list of least influential. To prove how ridiculous the claim was, Ed boasted that he's big in Ohio (and possibly Wisconsin, too!) -- Ed's defense only seemed to further confirm GQ's selection. Glenn reacts on radio today. Who is dumber - Obama or Perry

Rick Perry has had a bit of a rough run lately. He's made a few gaffes and of course we all know one gaffe by a conservative and the media has a feast, declaring said conservative a brain dead moron. How many gaffes by Obama/Biden does it take for the media to declare them dumb? Haven't found that number yet - but it must be high. Glenn rolls the Obama gaffe highlight reel on radio today.
