Atlas Shrugged

All-American Muslim: New York jihad bomb plotter wanted to show "there was mujahideen in the city ready to wage Jihad"

Huge props to the NYPD for this bust. This all-American Muslim was thisclose to completing a bomb to kill cops and soldiers. Is it any wonder that the jihadists in America are agitating and protesting for an end to counter terrorism measures?

"There is no evidence he worked with anyone else," Mayor Bloomberg said. "He appears to be ... a lone wolf." Is this clown kidding? What part of the global jihad does Doomberg not understand? Read the quran. I mean, seriously. How may people have to die in his city for this quisling to get it? This is the same schmuck who said that the Time Square jihadi car bomber was probably upset about his health insurance or his mortgage.

He was within an hour of finishing a pipe bomb, just a couple of days after Muslims protested in front of the NYPD against surveillance of their communities. More on this story. "Terror suspect Jose Pimentel plotted to kill cops and soldiers with bombs he was building in Manhattan apartment, authorities say," by Alison Gendar and Bill Hutchinson for the New York Daily News, November 20:

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."

But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

RedState

RedState Morning Briefing

For November 22, 2011

1. The Super Committee Failed The Day It Was Created

The Super Committee has failed to find a way to trim $1.2 trillion from the deficit. The fact is, though, the Super Committee was a failure from the moment it was conceived. Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, could not control itself. So it punted its failures to a Super Committee and even the threat of massive defense cuts could not prompt Congress to kick its spending addiction.

Now, some members of Congress are even saying "to hell with the defense cuts. We'll stop those cuts." Of course.

But it was all a bunch of smoke and mirrors for one simple reason.

2. Why Harriet Miers . . . er . . . Mitt Romney Cannot Be the GOP Nominee

Mitt Romney is the Harriet Miers of the 2012 election cycle. He is only a conservative because certain Washington conservatives tell us he is conservative. These same Washington conservatives said the same about Harriet Miers back in 2005.

What's more, it is starting to show. Have you seen the latest CNN poll?

Newt Gingrich has surged into the lead. That was rather expected. But Mitt Romney fell four points.

Yet again we see a non-Romney candidate move into the lead. It has gotten as predictable as the sun coming up. Romney is always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Why is that? It's easy to understand.

3. The 2012 Standard: Holding President Obama Accountable

President Obama did voters a favor. During the 2008 campaign and early in his administration, he laid out the standards by which he should be judged. He made it perfectly clear under what conditions he would deserve re-election.

And by his own standard he doesn't deserve a second term.

In February 2009, when employment was at 8.2 percent, he declared, "If I don't get this done in three years, then this is going to be a one term proposition."

Unemployment has yet to return to February 2009 levels, much less fall lower. Based on that standard alone, this should indeed be a "one term proposition."

But consider the President's other promises and self-imposed standards.

4. Obama Administration and EPA Use Clean Water Act for New Overreach

Just as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has used the Clean Air Act to broaden the scope of their authority way beyond its original intention with rules like MACT and CSAPR, the Clean Water Act is becoming a tool of overreach by the out of control agency.

Barack Obama and the EPA's Lisa Jackson have made it clear through their actions that they will circumvent the legislature by using regulatory enforcement to enact Obama's green dreams, and now it seems that circumvention includes the Supreme Court of the United States.

During the Bush presidency, a series of Supreme Court decisions acknowledged the limits of reach for the Clean Water Act. Most notably, the Supreme Court clarified that federal jurisdiction did not extend to wetlands and other "waters of the United States" under the Clean Water Act. Through the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook Country v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (2001) and Raponos v. U.S. (2006) the Supreme Court established that private property rights still mattered even in light of the Clean Water Act and that the federal government did not have authority over them.

This of course isn't stopping Barack Obama and Lisa Jackson from moving forward anyway.

5. This Is What Democracy Looks Like to State Senator Lena Taylor

In an exclusive story broken by Media Trackers (www.MediaTrackers.org), Wisconsin Democrat state Senator Lena Taylor, an outspoken critic of Governor Scott Walker, appears to be closely associated with voter fraud that took place during the spring elections in April of this year. Taylor is also one of the 14 AWOL state Senators that fled across state lines rather than vote on Walker's Budget Repair Bill earlier this year.

6. Obama Administration Sends Weapons Contract to Foreign Company with Ties to Iran

Late Thursday night, American company Hawker Beechcraft was informed by the U.S. Air Force that they were not going to be allowed to compete for an American military aircraft contract.

The company had been working with the Air Force for two years and spent over $100 million to ensure compliance with the requirements for the plane and says the craft (Beechcraft AT-6) met all requirements as shown through a demonstration actually led by the Air National Guard.

Keep in mind, this doesn't appear to be a question of being outbid or outclassed. In fact, this seems to be a classic example of a contract being awarded without any bidding process at all, something you may remember infuriated the left when the recipient of the contract was American company Haliburton.

There's a big difference this time. The company the no-bid contract went to isn't an American company. Worse yet, the company it did go to has questionable friends. Namely, Iran.

7. Become A Force Multiplier: Five simple tasks for American Activists

After observing the trends on the Left for many years, in early February 2009, during a meeting with a friend familiar with the "hydra" that the Left had built, we lamented on how there was nothing on the Right to combat the behemoth that had been built by unions, the institutional Left, with the help of the mainstream media, to tear down the Right and propel Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats to their huge 2008 victories.

Knowing what was on the agenda, "we're finished as a nation," was the overriding feeling. A short time later, the first Tea Party rally was held.

8. Pay Attention to Dan Liljenquist in Utah

There aren't a whole lot of Senate races to get excited about this year. Adam Hasner in Florida, Josh Mandel in Ohio, Don Stenberg in Nebraska, Ted Cruz in Texas, and Jeff Flake in Arizona are about it for me right now. But I do want to beat Heather Wilson in New Mexico and Tommy Thompson in Wisconsin.

One race where I've sat back a while is Utah. Senator Orrin Hatch is a decent enough guy and very likable, but I get the sense from the grassroots in Utah that they are ready for a change. And I think while Orrin Hatch has done a remarkable job moving right in the past year, I don't have confidence he'll stay there once he has another six year term. If past performance is the best indicator of future performance, I think we'll see a "centrist" Hatch the moment election season ends.

So I'm excited to Dan Liljenquist enter the Utah Senate race.

The terror trial in Boston

Our friend at Americans for Peace and Tolerance, Charles Jacobs, recently wrote an excellent column we bring to you below (highlights added).

Terror - and civil society - on trial in Boston

By Charles Jacobs

Tarek Mehanna, a young Muslim student, son of an Egyptian immigrant, was arrested two years ago at his home in Sudbury; accused by the FBI of plotting a Mumbai like machine gun massacre of New England shoppers in Attleboro's Emerald Square Mall - and for giving material support to Al Qaeda in Iraq. His trial began on Oct. 24.

Prosecution documents tell of Mehanna's attempt to seek terrorist training in Yemen and Pakistan. They describe the pleasure he and his friends took in watching videos of Americans being beheaded and of American soldiers killed and mutilated in Iraq. Watching a scene of an American soldier whose chest was ripped open and whose innards then set ablaze with gasoline, Mehanna called it "a Texas barbeque." When asked by a fellow extremist if the soldiers should not have received some sort of trial, Mehanna said no, "BBQ sauce is the way to go." Mehanna and his friends talked online about how his own translations of Al-Qaeda recruitment literature into English made him part of "the media wing of Al Qaeda." In these same conversations, monitored by the FBI, he has said that he "looks to Osama Bin Laden as his real father" and "loves him," and that he wasn't sorry for the victims of 9/11; he was just sorry "for the buildings."

An upper middle class fellow with an advantaged background hates his neighbors and his country? Aren't we told that poverty produces radicals?

Despite all this, the very people who have been telling us for years that they are true moderates have developed a Free Tarek Mehanna (FTM) Committee, which describes Mehanna in a petition as "a person with strong ethical values" who is "intelligent, charismatic, influential and trusted by many in the local Islamic community." A role model.

The group has been aggressively politicizing the judicial proceedings against Mehanna. Its spokesmen accuse the FBI of a national effort to harm the entire American Muslim community. FTM has targeted individual prosecutors and harassed the US Attorney's office with repeated phone calls and sit-ins. It labels anyone who dares to raise concerns about radical Islam as bigots and Islamophobes.

On Sept. 24, the leadership of the Islamic Society of Boston mosque in Roxbury organized an event there that featured pleas for support by Mehanna's brother and by the families of three convicted terrorists from Georgia, North Carolina and New York (Ehsanul Sadequee, Ziyad Yaghi and Syed Fahad Hashmi, respectively). Speakers claimed their communities were "suffering under the war on terror," which they called a US government plot against Muslims.

Whether Tarek Mehanna violated the law is an issue that should be left up to the courts - without mob pressures.

But what everyone in Boston should be concerned with is that Boston's Muslim leadership, under the guise of protecting free speech, is celebrating a man who sees himself as a hateful enemy of our society and was prepared - says the FBI - to kill his fellow New Englanders.

One of the leaders of FTM is Imam Abdullah Faaruuq, president of the umbrella organization of all the mosques in New England (Islamic Council of N.E.) and the Muslim chaplain at Northeastern University. Imam Faaruuq caused a stir when, in response to Mehanna's arrest, he encouraged Boston Muslims to "pick up the gun and the sword, don't be afraid to go out there and do your job." Faaruuq, by the way, is a man who has been embraced by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. While my organization has made both Patrick and the Northeastern administration aware of Faaruuq's activities, both have refused to repudiate him. There's a money angle as well: Northeastern student activity fees paid for a Support Mehanna event on campus in April. Last year, Faaruuq gave the Patrick administration $50,000 for "Muslim sensitivity training" for police.

In supporting an anti-American Islamist radical, Boston's Muslim leadership is promoting a sort of tribalism, which sees all Muslims as "our brothers and sisters" who must be defended regardless of their actions. Rather than shunning indecent behavior found among fringe people in their own groups, as all decent Americans have learned to do, they are teaching their children to embrace people who want to kill their neighbors. This can only encourage future acts of hatred and terror.

Truly moderate Muslim leaders would want a fair trial for Tarek Mehanna, but would strongly condemn his hateful beliefs and might even undertake to investigate how these awful thoughts and radical ideology penetrated their community. We can only hope such voices emerge.

It's disheartening to watch privileged children of Muslim immigrants who have benefited so generously from America turn toward hatred while their communal leaders exploit America's tolerance to promote and lionize an indecent young man who is also an accused terrorist. In my view, the most disturbing facet of this story is the utter failure of Massachusetts media and political leadership to honestly deal with the growing radicalization of young Muslims.

I hope that Massachusetts' civic and political leadership will summon the courage to ensure that justice is served and Mehanna's trial proceeds without political interference or mob pressure.

Morning Bell: The Debate over Defense Spending

The super committee's ability to succeed remains in serious doubt, with reports of its deadlock and failure headlining newspapers this morning. Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidates are set to take the stage tomorrow night at Washington, D.C.'s Constitution Hall in a debate on foreign policy and national security co-hosted by The Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute. With the future of America's national security hanging in the balance, the question of which presidential candidate would best protect America has more importance than ever.

In letters sent to Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) last week, Panetta detailed the danger of further defense cuts if the super committee fails to meet its target. Panetta said that under the worst-case scenario, "the total cut will rise to about $1 trillion compared with the FY 2012 plan," which in practical terms means "the smallest ground force since 1940, the smallest number of  ships since 1915, and the smallest Air Force in its history."

Jihad March to Take Place in Cairo Calling For the islamic Conquest of Jerusalem

Laura: A call to jihad in Cairo for the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Jews in Jerusalem, Judaism's holiest city. Jerusalem which has rich and deep Jewish roots dating back thousands of years before the existence of islam and to which muslims falsely claim belongs to them because at one time islam had forcibly conquered the city and built the al aqsa mosque over the Temple Mount. Jerusalem is not even mentioned once in the koran and it was never the capital of any islamic state, yet islamic supremacists pretend the city is holy to islam in order to garner international support for attempting to steal what rightfully belongs to the Jewish people.

CAIRO - Tens of thousands of Islamists jammed Tahrir Square on Friday, demanding the swift exit of Egypt's interim military rulers in the most significant challenge to their authority since the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak nine months ago.

The huge turnout was the first time that Egypt's Islamists had so openly and aggressively challenged military rule, ending an uneasy truce that had prevailed as long as the military appeared willing to allow the Islamists as much of a say in Egypt's future as they could win at the ballot box.

That truce fell apart, on the eve of parliamentary elections, after the military council spelled out for the first time its intention to preserve a decisive role for itself in Egyptian politics far into the future,...

Syria is heading inexorably for a civil war

Ted Belman. Phillips doesn't factor in Israel in this article so I will. Clearly Obama has aligned himself with Islamists, including Erdogan, even in Syria. The Islamists represent a threat to the monarchies in the Gulf including Jordan and to Israel. Iran also represents a threat to them and to Israel. The last thing any of them want is for Iran to takeover Iraq. It is extremely important that a Syria develops that isn't Islamists and is beholding to the Monarchies of her liberation and financial support. In this too, Israel shares their desire. Turkey, like Iran is not an Arab country but it is Islamist.

Obama seems to be wanting Turkey to take a major role leading the Islamists. It would immeasurable aid in this project if Turkey were to take over Syria.

Thus the monarchies and Israel are allies in the real world wanting to stop Iran from getting the bomb and taking over Iraq. They also want to stop Turkey from re-acquiring the Ottoman empire including Syria and Iraq....

Canada forging stronger defence ties with Israel

This is great news. There is no question that Canada has been staunchly in Israel's corner in the diplomatic war. In fact she has lead the way. Now this. There is no question in my mind that this relationship will include a commitment to resupply Israel in the event of war. Such a back-up to American resupply is very important. What ever Canada gets in exchange, she deserves. Ted Belman

By Lee Berthiaume, Postmedia News November 17, 2011

OTTAWA - Canada and Israel are about to complete a number of defence co-operation agreements that will significantly tighten military bonds between the two countries as tensions grow over Iran's nuclear ambitions.

And Defence Minister Peter MacKay refused Wednesday to rule out a mutual-defence agreement that would oblige Canada to come to Israel's defence should the latter be attacked.

Appearing together at a media conference in Ottawa on Wednesday, MacKay and his Israeli counterpart Ehud Barak said they anticipate negotiations will...

Occupy Rabble Terrorizes Children

Laura:  This is the movement that the media romanticizes and the democrat party is endorsing. On top of the filth, rapes, robberies, anti-Semitism, vandalism, arson and violence, now the OWS are harassing and terrifying little children on their way to school. Nancy Pelosi has said about OWS, "G-d bless them". So Nancy Pelosi and the democrats are on record as aligning squarely with anarchists, marxists and anti-Semites who want to tear down America.

OWS Protesters Chant 'Follow Those Kids!' As Small Children Try To Go To School On Wall Street; Tiny Tots, Some As Young As 4, Overwhelmed By Hostility, Crush Of Humanity

Some grade school students were forced to walk a gauntlet of screaming "Occupy Wall Street" protesters just to get to school on Thursday.

It was a wild day in lower Manhattan for most everyone involved, including elementary school children who had to brave the mayhem just to get to class on the other side of Wall Street.

Why We Want the Super Committee to Fail

Nov 21, 2011 11:59 am

Washington is once again in a deal making mode, and you are about to lose again. When Congress passed the massive debt increase bill earlier this year, it abdicated legislative responsibility to craft a solution to the spiraling debt. They gave the legislative responsibility to what Congress calls the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. [...]

The Impossible Numbers

Some political systems are based on beliefs and identity. The American congress is built on spending money. The spoils system long ago became the spoiled system with money as the lubricant of politics. The legacy of a leader used to be measured by his accomplishments, today it's measured by how much money he managed to extract from the collective pool of real and imaginary money held in the sweaty hands of the legislatures.

Much of the money is imaginary, but in the minds of the politicians it's all imaginary. Unreality is an elementary tool of price inflation. The more outrageous the markup, the more the merchant works to create an atmosphere where money does not seem to exist and reality bends at the seams. It's not a new game of a particularly clever one, but the unreality bubble now covers much of Washington D.C.
In the unreality bubble, numbers don't really mean anything. 2 + 2 does not equal 4, sometimes it equals 1, sometimes a 100, sometimes any number you want it to be. Philosophers have spent thousands of years proving that nothing is real, but until recently they were not being employed as economists.

The clever are particularly adept at deception and at self-deception, treating reality as if it were as malleable as language. Objective reality can't be manipulated with language, but subjective reality easily is. And each manipulation only increases the perception of unreality as the reality gap widens between the out of touch, who also happen to be in power.

Spending is momentum. It's also privilege. Wealth is power and the ability to spend unlimited amounts of money is rather disturbingly close to absolute power. And absolute power not only corrupts, it also blinds and distorts.

The political elite have confused their power over their own subjective reality with control over subjective reality. That is how we got to 15 trillion and given the willingness of much of the disaster that passes for the global economy to participate in the debt funded planned government economies springing up from China to Turkey to the United States, there's no limit to how much money we can spend except the collapse of the system.

So the failure of the Supercommittee should be no surprise. The Democrats have only one election strategy and that's to blame the Republicans. They have nothing to gain from cooperation and everything to gain from conflict. They would see the economy burn, even if they didn't have anything to gain from the flames-but they do.

Hypocrisy abounds on the Republican side where symbolic votes cover a multitude of economic sins. And when he symbolic votes tank, then the masks come off. But why expect anything different? The United States is not a one party system and congress can only be held hostage so far. The Republican Party is not innocent, only comparatively less guilty, their crimes those of greedy and complacency, rather than the ideological agenda that fattens up the spending of the left.

Everyone talks cuts, but no one makes them because cuts are a dangerous thing. Elections are expensive and someone has to pay for them. Indirectly that someone is the poor schmoe sending off money to D.C. without getting anything for it but aching fingers.

The Foundation

"Nothing so strongly impels a man to regard the interest of his constituents, as the certainty of returning to the general mass of the people, from whence he was taken, where he must participate in their burdens." --George Mason

We've found the problem

Government

"In 2008, the slogan was 'Yes We Can.' For 2011-12, it's 'We Can't Wait.' What happened in between? Candidate Obama, the vessel into which myriad dreams were poured, met the reality of governance. ... Never mind that you had control of the Congress for two-thirds of your current tenure. It's all the fault of Republican rejectionism. Hence: 'We Can't Wait.' We can't wait while they obstruct. We can't wait while they dither with my jobs bill. Write Congress today! Vote Democratic tomorrow! We can't wait. Except for certain exceptions, such as the 1,700-mile trans-USA Keystone XL pipeline, carrying Alberta oil to Texas refineries, that would have created thousands of American jobs and increased our energy independence. For that, we can wait, it seems. President Obama decreed that any decision must wait 12 to 18 months -- postponed, by amazing coincidence, until after next year's election. Why? Because the pipeline angered Obama's environmental constituency. But their complaints are risible. Global warming from the extraction of the Alberta tar sands? Canada will extract the oil anyway. If it doesn't go to us, it will go to China. Net effect on the climate if we don't take that oil? Zero. ... 'The administration,' reported The New York Times, 'had in recent days been exploring ways to put off the decision until after the presidential election.' Exploring ways to improve the project? Hardly. Exploring ways to get past the election. ... Sure, the pipeline would have produced thousands of truly shovel-ready jobs. Sure, delay could forfeit to China a supremely important strategic asset -- a nearby, highly reliable source of energy. But approval was calculated to be a political loss for the president. ... We can't wait." --columnist Charles Krauthammer

What do you think of Obama's decision to punt the pipeline decision until after elections?

Opinion in Brief

"As the clock ticks toward ... Wednesday's deadline for the 'super committee' on deficit reduction to come up with $1.2 trillion in savings, it's looking increasingly likely that the panel will fail. ... But the failure of the 'super committee' raises a broader question, particularly if the triggered cuts get overridden: is it actually possible for Congress to cut spending? The problem Congress always runs into is that immediate spending cuts are seen as too disruptive, so even when members propose to reduce spending, they typically push for phasing in any cuts over time. Yet by doing that, they're putting the actual task of implementing cuts in the hands of future Congresses. And history has shown that such cuts are often undone when it comes time to make them. In 1996, for instance, the new Republican congress voted to phase out farm subsidies over seven years, but by the end of that period, was doling out more subsidies than ever before. ... Follow the spending debate now, and even the proposals that are considered the most ambitious ... all rest on the assumption that the current Congress will be able to dictate the behavior of future Congresses. ... [T]he hard truth is that it may take a Greece-like collapse for the nation to cut spending, but by that point it'll have to be done in a state of emergency, and likely accompanied by drastic tax hikes." --The Washington Examiner's Philip Klein

The Gipper

"[I]t doesn't require expropriation or confiscation of private property or business to impose socialism on a people. What does it mean whether you hold the deed or the title to your business or property if the government holds the power of life and death over that business or property? Such machinery already exists. The government can find some charge to bring against any concern it chooses to prosecute. Every businessman has his own tale of harassment. Somewhere a perversion has taken place. Our natural, inalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation of government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment." --Ronald Reagan

For the Record

"On Jan. 5, the new House of Representatives convened. ... On March 1, the Republican-majority House approved a continuing resolution to keep the government-funded from March 4 through March 18. ... Since March 4, federal spending has been the result of a Republican-Democrat partnership. Liberals and establishment media figures often decry 'gridlock' in Washington and suggest the system does not work because Congress does not enact more legislation. But what we have had in Washington this year is the opposite of gridlock. We have had free-flowing spending, authorized by legislation approved by the leaders of both parties. ... By the close of business on Nov. 14, the federal debt had climbed to $14,977,884,880,834.39. That equaled about $127,430 for every household in the country -- or an increase of about $6,766 per household during the period the Republican House had an effective veto over federal spending. During that time, House Speaker Boehner also negotiated a deal with President Obama to increase the legal limit on the national debt by as much as $2.4 trillion. ... We are as much in need of great leaders today as at anytime in our history. We will not find them among those who now run Congress." --columnist Terence Jeffrey

Insight

"I believe that if the people of this nation fully understood what Congress has done to them over the last 49 years, they would move on Washington; they would not wait for an election. ... It adds up to a preconceived plan to destroy the economic and social independence of the United States!" --senator George W. Malone (1890-1961)

Essential Liberty

"The signs of a gathering storm can be detected if one is paying attention. The 9/11 attacks, for example, surprised us all, but they were hardly a bolt out of the blue. 'In August 1998, Osama bin Laden's Afghanistan-based terrorist network bombed U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania,' Middle East expert James Phillips wrote in a paper published by The Heritage Foundation in July 2000. 'Yet Afghanistan has still not received the high-level attention that it deserves as the world's leading exporter of terrorism, Islamic revolution, and opium.' We'd also seen the USS Cole bombed while it lay in port in Yemen. And let's not forget the first bombing attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. ... It's easy to forget sometimes that the president is also the commander-in-chief. ... [W]hen you consider our position in the world, and what it takes to make sure that we remain secure, we see the need to be prepared -- not just in a general sense, but to anticipate specific threats and figure out how to deal with them." --Heritage Foundation president Ed Feulner

Re: The Left

"Can you imagine how differently our political climate would be if the mainstream media had the slightest inclination toward fairness and balance? The liberal media have never, to my knowledge, shined the spotlight on Obama's many embarrassing gaffes. They have rarely called attention to his deceit, broken promises and policy failures. Part of the reason is their presupposition that because he's a credentialed left-winger, he is brilliant, and any departure from that is a mere aberration, an exception that couldn't possibly detract from his presumptive brilliance. And as a bona fide 'progressive,' he is imbued with superior moral standards, and his misdeeds must be excused in exchange for his dedication to policies the liberal media deem are ethically unassailable. From the mainstream media's perspective, conservatives, on the other hand, are presumptively dimwitted or morally bankrupt, because you can't be intelligent and conservative unless you're morally depraved." --columnist David Limbaugh

How would elections look different today if the MSM were fair and balanced?

Political Futures

"[A]ccording to Public Policy Polling, Newt Gingrich is now at the top of the GOP field. And for understandable reasons: he's performed quite well in the debates, he's generally excellent during television interviews, he's targeted the press in almost every debate, and he hasn't gotten into any spitting matches with the other candidates. ... The danger for Gingrich is that he's something of a target-rich environment, from his personal life (including cheating on two previous wives), to his commercial with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi raising concerns about climate change, to his past support for the Medicare prescription drug plan and an individual mandate in health care, to the $300,000 he received from embattled government mortgage agency Freddie Mac, to much more. Some of the coverage will be tough and fair; some of it will be tough and unfair. But tough it will be." --columnist Peter Wehner

Culture

"On its website, the American Psychological Association brags, 'Since 1975, the American Psychological Association has called on psychologists to take the lead in removing the stigma of mental illness that has long been associated with lesbian, gay, and bisexual orientations.' It once considered such behavior otherwise and while even most conservatives no longer regard homosexuality as a mental illness, many still regard it as sinful. That theological diagnosis, too, has been discarded in our increasingly secular and anomalous society where everything is to be tolerated except those people who assert that, according to a standard higher than opinion polls, some things remain intolerable. ... What we tolerate and promote we get more of and what we discourage and reject we get less of. ... The message at Penn State was that we live in a culture that forbids almost nothing. ... In the last verse of the Old Testament's book of Judges, there is this: 'In those days Israel had no king; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.' That could have been the motto at Penn State. Increasingly, it appears to describe contemporary America as well." --columnist Cal Thomas

The Last Word

"Congratulations, average American! It's your turn to be blamed for President Obama's -- and America's -- problems. ... Last week at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, Obama explained that, 'We've been a little bit lazy over the last couple of decades. We've kind of taken for granted -- "Well, people would want to come here" -- and we aren't out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new businesses into America.' ... In September, the president reflected in an interview that America is 'a great, great country that has gotten a little soft, and we didn't have that same competitive edge that we needed over the last couple of decades.' Shortly after that, he told rich donors at a fundraiser that 'we have lost our ambition, our imagination and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge and Hoover Dam.' ... The point of all this is pretty obvious. Obama has a long-standing habit of seeing failure to support his agenda as a failure of character. ... And in the context of the country's economic doldrums, Obama sees a lack of ambition, softness, laziness, etc., in anyone who doesn't support his agenda. ... But, yes, by all means, let's blame our lack of competitiveness on the American people." --columnist Jonah Goldberg

In "vetting" Romney what the old media fails to report will tell the new media where to look

Nov 21, 2011 05:13 am | Coach Collins

 By Kevin "Coach" Collins

How many times have we heard or read a news report about a crime that went something like this: "In midtown today a brazen lunch time robbery took the life of an eighty year old woman who was knocked down and had her purse stolen in front of dozens of witnesses. Police provided this description: they are looking for a male about 5' 8" of medium build wearing black trousers and a white tee shirt."

By trying to hide the race of the perpetrator the Leftist media guarantees that we understand the killer is a male Black. What they left out tells us more than what they reported and fools no one over 12 years old.

Similarly when newspapers give us stories about a crooked politician, if the headline doesn't say something like "Republican Republican Republican caught stealing..."

The first 12 of 13 paragraphs will avoid saying the crook is a Democrat if it ... Continue Reading:In "vetting" Romney what the old media fails to report will tell the new media where to look

John Boehner betrays Americans with "Super Committee" sell-out

Nov 20, 2011 01:13 pm | Coach Collins

 By Doug Book, staff writer

Nothing is more maddening to conservatives than the ease with which Capitol Hill Republicans endlessly compromise away the rights, liberty and heritage of the American people and the best interests of our nation.

On August 2nd the debt-reduction "Super Committee" was born of the Budget Control Act of 2011, its purpose to cut 1.2 trillion dollars from the federal budget over the next decade. If the handpicked Committee of 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats should fail to agree upon mutually acceptable legislation by November 23rd, automatic spending cuts will take effect beginning in 2013 (after the election, of course.)

"Acceptable legislation" presumably translates to fiscal terms which both congress and Barack Obama will find politically palatable enough to embrace, or at least tolerate.

Prior to the start of committee negotiations it was suggested that both Democrats and Republicans have ample incentive to reach a meaningful agreement. So it was decided that the automatic cuts ... Continue Reading:John Boehner betrays Americans with "Super Committee" sell-out

Senate GOP Leaders To Holder: Your Kagan Testimony 'Belied By The Facts'
By Terence P. Jeffrey

Senate Republican leaders sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday expressing their view that testimony he gave in the Senate Judiciary Committee last week on the Justice Department's handling of then-Solicitor General Elena Kagan's involvement in litigation arising from the administration's health care legislation was "belied by the facts."

COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 351 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS

Happy Baracksgiving

When Americans get together Thursday, they will give thanks to God for the many blessings in their lives. Yet we have a president who seems to think we should be thanking him!

Check out our latest video here. Obama has been a disaster! Unemployment is up. The national debt is up. Gas prices are up. The list goes on.

Please show this video to your friends and family members this Thanksgiving. Share it with others online. Tweet it. Post it to your Facebook page. The numbers don't lie. America can't afford four more years of Barack Obama.

My friends, we will take advantage of every opportunity we can to defeat Obama and his socialist allies -- from traditional media like radio and TV ads to social media like Facebook and Twitter. We'll even use good old fashioned direct mail. And we are counting on your help -- not just financially but also in spreading the word about our work. Our previous video has been viewed nearly 90,000 times. Working together we can take America back!

Super Failure?

The congressional deficit reduction super committee is rapidly running out of time to negotiate a deal, and press reports suggest there likely won't be one. Already there is a growing chorus of talking heads saying how sick and tired they are of Washington, how our leaders just can't do anything anymore, how our system is broken. I often see this same sentiment in the emails I get every day.

Sorry, but I dissent. In my view, the failure of the super committee to reach common ground reflects the growing divide in America today.

If you are reading these daily reports, you believe in lower taxes, smaller government and traditional values. If you start your day off at the Daily Kos or at an "Occupy" rally, then you probably believe in higher taxes, bigger government and liberal values. If you put six "End of Day" readers and six Daily Kos readers in a room, it's unlikely either side would budge on core principles.

It's the same with the super committee. Democrats believe the problem in Washington is a lack of revenue. Republicans believe the problem is too much spending. This is what we have elections for, but gridlock occurs when there is divided government. If Obama and his allies win in 2012, they are promising to raise your taxes to pay for all their spending.

What Does OWS Want?

Since the protests began, we've been asking, "What is the Occupy Wall Street agenda?" This weekend, the editors of Adbusters magazine, which is credited with starting the movement, published an op-ed in the Washington Post explaining what OWS is all about. So, what is their agenda? Here it is:

"This primal cry for democracy sprang from young people who could no longer ignore the angst in their gut -- the premonition that their future does not compute, that their entire lives will be lived in the apocalyptic shadow of climate-change tipping points, species die-offs, a deadening commercialized culture, a political system perverted by money, precarious employment, a struggle to pay off crippling student loans, and no chance of ever owning a home or living in comfort like their parents."

So this is what the left has produced. Environmental alarmism has some folks convinced we're on the verge of mass extinction and that our lifestyle is to blame for global warming. How do they explain the fact that the planet was hotter before we had SUVs? How do they explain the warming that has been detected on Mars?

They complain about a political system "perverted by money," but say nothing of union money or George Soros' money. They complain about high unemployment, but do they question the role of big government? No. Sadly, they go on to rail against corporations and job creators.

And exactly who forced them to take out those "crippling student loans"? As for owning a home and living in comfort like their parents, they should learn from their parents, most of whom worked very hard and saved up a long time to buy a home they could afford.

Some on the right have said, "Don't worry. The occupiers will be gone with the first frost." The editors of Adbusters are promising otherwise. Here's how they put it:

"The people's assemblies will continue with or without winter encampments. What will be new is the marked escalation of ... rush-hour flash mobs, bank occupations, 'occupy squads' and edgy theatrics. ...In this visceral, canny, militantly nonviolent phase of our march to real democracy, we will 'float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.' We will regroup, lick our wounds, brainstorm and network all winter. We will build momentum for a full-spectrum counterattack when the crocuses bloom next spring."

In other words, they are promising to be more disruptive, making life miserable for even more people. They plan to come back in full-force in the middle of one of the most vicious political campaigns in our history. This is a witch's brew. The Obama reelection effort by itself will bring emotions to the boiling point because Axelrod & Co. have already indicated they are going to run a "slash and burn" campaign.

America is deeply divided. Our nation is at a tipping point. Will we follow Europe down socialism's dead-end road and into bankruptcy? Or will we once again embrace the values that made America the envy of the world? This coming election will likely decide the direction we take. That is why it is so crucial for every conservative to be fully engaged in the weeks and months ahead.

My Friend Ed Meese

Over the weekend, I re-read Friday's report and felt I should revisit the item on Attorney General Eric Holder. In that item I referenced my good friend Ed Meese, who served as Ronald Reagan's Attorney General. In no way was I comparing Meese to Holder, who I believe has done some deeply questionable things. From Fast and Furious to refusing to prosecute the New Black Panthers to attacking state efforts to secure our borders, Holder is a political hack.

In contrast, Ed Meese was a constitutional scholar and the conscience of the Reagan Administration. He popularized the concept of original intent in jurisprudence and is among the most ethical and honorable men I know. He was attacked by the left because he was such an effective advocate for our values.

Ronald Reagan once said, "If Ed Meese is not a good man, there are no good men." I agree. And I am proud to call Ed a friend.

National Association For Gun Rights

I know I don't have to tell you, but politicians often say one thing but do the complete opposite -- especially if they think no one is looking.

Newt Gingrich is the poster child for these sort of "flexible" principles.

I've been around the block a few times (I'm about to start my 20th year as a gun rights lobbyist) and dealt with literally thousands of candidates and politicians, but no Republican politician has managed to support and vote for anti-gun legislation and still proclaim that he is "pro-gun" more effectively than Newt Gingrich.

Don't be fooled by his rise in the polls; Newt Gingrich has a long history of supporting gun control ...

... and he has blatantly refused to return his National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Survey.

With more than three decades as a public figure, Newt is the quintessential political chameleon, shifting his views to reflect whatever is popular with the Washington, D.C. chattering class.

Make no mistake, while Newt may talk a solid conservative game, his record is that of a typical Inside-the-Beltway politician who will cut ANY compromise or make ANY deal with anyone for his own political or personal gain.

While Newt used the institutional gun lobby as a mouthpiece to convince millions of gun owners nationwide that "as long as he is Speaker, no gun-control legislation is going to move in committee or on the House floor," he was working behind the scenes to pass gun control.

In 1996, Newt Gingrich turned his back on guns and voted for the anti-gun Brady Campaign's Lautenberg Gun Ban, which strips the Second Amendment rights of citizens involved in misdemeanor domestic violence charges or temporary protection orders -- in some cases for actions as minor as spanking a child or grabbing a spouse's wrist.
(1)

Gingrich even called the anti-gun measure "reasonable," and predicted that it would sail through his Republican-controlled House of Representatives with little trouble.
(2)

The Lautenberg Gun Ban is one of the Congressional Republicans' worst betrayals of gun owners, and those complicit in its passage deserve nothing but contempt from gun owners.

This gun control measure ranks right up there with the Brady Registration Act as the most aggressive gun control in America, denying hundreds of thousands of would-be gun owners the right to self defense.

Gingrich also stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the "Criminal Safezones Act" which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations. You and I both know that Criminal Safezones don't protect law-abiding citizens, but actually protect the criminals who ignore them.
(3)

As you can see, Newt Gingrich is no friend of gun owners, or small government conservatives. He simply can't be trusted, and his record reflects his contempt not only for the truth, but his own integrity and the integrity of the very people he's asking to vote for him to be the most powerful man in the modern world.

This is the same man who railed against the Obama bailouts of Fannie and Freddie Mac while receiving more than $1.5 million from Fannie Mae as a "consultant"
(4) while his firm also raised $37 million to pass healthcare insurance mandates.(5)

He's also the same man who sat next to Nancy Pelosi and insisted global warming was a man-made problem in need of a government-mandated solution. Now that he's running for the Republican nomination, he doesn't believe in global warming and calls the TV ad he did with Pelosi "inexplicable." Please click here to watch the video.
(6)

I'm concerned, though, that Newt's snake-oil act is catching on.

It's time for gun owners and liberty-minded, small government activists to hold Newt's feet to the fire.

That's why I need you to call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control, and make a dramatic turnaround statement of support to repeal the gun controls he's supported.

Tell his campaign that you expect Newt to not only apologize for his past support of anti-gun measures but also to reveal where he stands on international gun grabs like the UN "Small Arms Treaty" and domestic anti-gun schemes like the banning of .50 caliber rifles.

Demand he quit stonewalling gun owners and return his National Association for Gun Rights Presidential Survey -- at once. You and I both know that election season, when they're begging for the votes of gun owners, is one of the best times to lobby candidates and politicians.

With Republican presidential primaries in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina mere weeks away, it's vital that gun owners know where the Republican candidates for President stand on important Second Amendment issues.

Newt's record is as crooked as a dog's hind leg. With a horrible voting record on Second Amendment issues, gun owners just don't know which side Newt's on.

Please call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control.

   For Freedom,

   Dudley Brown
   Executive Director

P.S. Newt Gingrich's anti-gun record is too important -- and dangerous -- to ignore. That's why I felt compelled to inform you.

His support for numerous gun controls is in direct contradiction to his current campaign statements.

Call the Gingrich campaign headquarters right now at (678) 973-2306. Demand that Newt Gingrich apologize for his past support of gun control.

The National Association for Gun Rights is working day and night to keep gun owners like you up-to-date on the presidential candidates' records -- please consider contributing to the effort by chipping in $15 or $20.

Ann Coulter is wrong: a real conservative can beat Obama

Newt Gingrich was a lobbyist, plain and simple

TIMOTHY P. CARNEY - When Newt Gingrich says he never lobbied, he's not telling the truth. When he was a paid consultant for the drug-industry's lobby group, Gingrich worked hard to persuade Republican congressmen to vote for the Medicare drug subsidy that the industry favored. Glenn's interview with Congresswoman Bachmann

Presidential candidate and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann took time out of her busy schedule and stopped by Glenn's NYC radio studio today for an interview. Glenn believes Bachmann is one of the few trustworthy people in Washington, D.C. and it's hard not to admire her when hearing just a portion of where she derives her beliefs. Glenn and Bachmann attended the same event last night (Zionist Organization of America's Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award Dinner) and the pair talked about the perilous state Israel is in. Check out the story and watch the interview HERE.

Chris Matthews: The thrill is gone?

MSNBC's Chris Matthews famously declared he had a thrill up his leg whenever he daydreamed about Obama but it appears the President has lost a little of his magic. Matthews went on a rant complaining that the President isn't saying what he's going to do this time around (it's amazing what you can see when tingle free) but in the process revealed some pretty shocking bias. When have you ever heard a 'journalist' begging for Obama to 'give us our orders' in trying to get him elected. Huh? Get the audio and reaction HERE.

What's Thanksgiving at the Beck home like?

Thanksgiving is a time when families all get together and enjoy a huge feast, football and the company of each other. Bill Kristol - remember him? He's the guy who arrogantly mocked Glenn for warning that maybe the Arab Spring in Egypt wasn't going to end well for Egyptians. Obama Implements Phase One of Backdoor Amnesty

In the Obama Administration's latest attempt to implement a backdoor amnesty program, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued new policy memos last week instructing agency attorneys to begin reviewing immigration cases and administratively closing those that do not meet its "priorities." As part of phase one of the program, the memos direct attorneys at district ICE offices to immediately begin reviewing all incoming deportation cases. A pilot program for reviewing all pending deportation cases will begin in Baltimore and Denver immigration courts December 4 and will continue into January 2012.

In the aftermath of a demonstration against Alabama's new immigration enforcement law, HB 56, Immigration and Customs Enforcement refused to detain thirteen aliens who admit they are illegally in the U.S. The thirteen were among a hundred protesters who while walking in front of the state house chanted slogans that included, "Undocumented and unafraid!" and ''No papers, no fear, immigrants are marching here!" Representatives Seek to Close Tax Loophole for Illegal Aliens

Last week, Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA) introduced a bill to close a tax loophole that allows illegal aliens to collect $4.2 billion annually in taxpayer dollars through the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). (See TIGTA Report 2011-41-061, July 7, 2011; see also FAIR Legislative Update, Sept. 6, 2011) "The Child Tax Credit Integrity Preservation Act," co-sponsored by Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) would prevent illegal aliens from obtaining the tax credit by requiring that individuals who claim the credit provide a valid Social Security Number (SSN). Currently, the IRS only requires individuals provide an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), which the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) indiscriminately hands out to illegal aliens, to receive the ACTC.
