Calls Needed
to
Oppose the U.S. Senate's Big-Government Education Bill
William A. Estrada, Esq. HSLDA Federal Relations
Melanie P. Palazzo Congressional Action Program Director
November 1, 2011
Introduction
The U.S. Senate Education Committee has decided to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). This massive federal education bill was last reauthorized in 2001 as the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
HSLDA's federal relations staff have read this 868-page bill, and we believe that while it does not directly impact homeschool freedom, the bill will 1) increase the federal role in education at the expense of state, local, and parental control, and 2) will greatly increase the pressure on states to align their curriculum and standards, resulting in de facto national education standards.
Urgent Calls Needed to Senate Education Committee
The Senate Education Committee has already voted this ESEA bill out of committee, but at the urging of Senator Rand Paul (KY) the committee will hold a hearing on the bill Tuesday, November 8. If either of your senators are on the Education Committee, HSLDA urges you to call with the following message:
"I am concerned that the ESEA reauthorization bill scheduled for a committee hearing next Tuesday will greatly increase the federal government's control over education. As a homeschooler, I understand that parents-not federal education officials-are best suited to make educational choices for their children. Please oppose attempts to increase national control over education."

You may identify and contact your two U.S. senators using HSLDA's Legislative Toolbox.
Senators Paul, Richard Burr (NC), and Orrin Hatch (UT) share our concerns about this bill and should be thanked.
Background
In 2001, Congress passed NCLB. While HSLDA was neutral on this bill because it included strongly written protections for homeschoolers, and prohibitions on federal funding for national teacher certification, national standards, national testing, and national databases, NCLB also greatly increased the federal government's role in education.
A decade later, nearly all education policy makers agree that NCLB is too inflexible. HSLDA believes this illustrates that the federal government should not be in the business of establishing education policy for the nation's schoolchildren.
This past month, the U.S. Senate has been working on reauthorizing NCLB. HSLDA is concerned the Senate's bill continues the failed "Washington-knows-best, one-size-fits-all" approach that was widely criticized in NCLB. In addition, one provision in the Senate's bill mandates that any state taking federal funds must put in place "College and Career Ready Aligned Standards." Mandating that each state have aligned standards with aligned coursework will guarantee the creation of national academic standards, national curriculum, and national testing. We believe this will result in the eventual requirement that homeschoolers use these national standards, curriculum, and testing.
For more about HSLDA's concerns read "The Danger of National Standards" and "Nationalized Education Standards-an Update for Home Educators."
You may also read HSLDA's legislative summary.
It is still unclear at this point whether homeschool protections will stay in the Senate's education bill, but even if they do, the trend of national standards could lead to homeschoolers losing the freedom to choose the curriculum for their children. For these reasons, HSLDA is urging opposition to the Senate's ESEA reauthorization legislation.

A Special Invitation To a Two-Day Campaign Training Presented by Pennsylvania Family PAC
Changing the Culture by Winning Campaigns
November 9-10, 2011
Harrisburg, PA
Voters today - perhaps more than at any time in recent history - are yearning for principled candidates committed to standing strong for the timeless values upon which our country was founded and standing stronger against the politics-as-usual establishment working to undermine those values.
- Are you such a candidate - or do you know one running in your area that you'd like to help? or
- Do you wish you had the skills to help elect a good candidate? or
- Have you thought about running for local or state elected office - or know of someone else?
The Winning Campaigns training school shows pro-life, pro-family, principled - candidates, campaign staff, and grassroots activists how to run winning campaigns without compromising their values - with a special emphasis placed on running and winning primaries (even against incumbents).
Who should attend? Local or state candidates, potential candidates, campaign staff, campaign volunteers, grassroots leaders, and concerned citizens - who are committed to advancing pro-life/pro-family principles. This training is perfect for anyone who wishes to learn how to run or assist the local campaigns of those running for elected office.
What's the cost? Nothing; registration is free, but you must register in advance.
More details on the event and an informational brochure are available by request. To get more information or to register, call Dan at 717-545-0600. THIS IS BY INVITATION ONLY. YOU are invited (as a PA Family supporter), but if you know of someone else who could benefit from this training as a candidate or potential candidate or campaign worker, please let them know and have them contact us directly. But hurry, space is limited and reservations should be made by November 4th.

I urge you to stand with me and co-sponsor my new legislation, "American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts." This legislation protects the individual constitutional rights of the people of Pennsylvania from the incursion of foreign laws, in cases in which the application of a foreign law or foreign legal doctrine would violate someone's constitutional rights. Go here to see the full document . . .: Our constitutional rights and founding principles of freedom should not be abridged by any offshore entity, including and especially those who would promote Sharia law. Once before on June 19, we asked that you contact your elected representatives and urge them to co-sponsor a bill to prohibit foreign law from consideration in any and all cases in our state courts. You were very responsive and there are now 21 co-sponsors on the bill! Listed below are the co-sponsors to date. if your rep is not on the list, kindly contact him/her even if it's the second time, by taking the 3 action steps below. The more co-sponsors the bill has the more likely it is that the legislators will vote affirmatively to pass it into law. It is significant what Rep. Swanger's office said when sending us the list of co-sponsors : "I feel a lot of them co-sponsored because of the message that was sent out by you to contact the Reps about this legislation. A lot of district offices & Harrisburg offices called or e-mailed right after that was sent out." Here's the list: Kerry Benninghoff Scott Boyd Dom Costa Tom Creighton George Dunbar Frank Farry Neal Goodman Seth Grove Kate Harper Dick Hess Scott Hutchinson Rob Kauffman Daryl Metcalfe (asked to be listed as a 2nd) Carl Metzgar Scott Perry (asked to be listed 3rd) Rick Saccone Stan Saylor Curt Schroder Jerry Stern Dick Stevenson Will Tallman Here are the action steps: 1. read the attached letter from Rep. Swanger, which went out in early June to all PA House members 2. visit, or call, your representative and ask him/her to call Rep. Swanger's secretary, Lily Horst, 717-787-2686, or email her at lhorst@pahousegop.com to be added to the list of the bill's cosponsors 3. timing: please move quickly, as they may be getting to the next step (obtaining a bill number). Make contact, and gain their commitment, by August 1. Having many co-sponsors on a bill, as you know, will help build momentum in the right direction quickly. Thank you for your efforts. Signed, your Legislative Focus Group American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts

"snacks; I.e. Slim jims, granola bars, you name it. Especially for units that go on patrol that have to eat MRE's all the time. Portable or carry size Snacks or small food items are invaluable to a soldier out on a 4 week mission. Bigger items might include small coolers or anything that might keep drinks cold. I also found something as simple as a coffee thermos was incredibly invaluable. Off mission speaking, footballs, soccer balls, DVD movies, magazines and newspapers from home are great. Also Non-elastic bed sheets can provide comfort and privacy if hung up for soldiers crammed in living areas. Hope this helps!"

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

RedState Morning Briefing
For November 9, 2011
1. Perry, Gingrich, Cain, and Huntsman. Oh My.
I wrote a while back that I could not support Jon Huntsman ever for what many consider a very esoteric reason - he went to work for the President of the United States and while working for the President of the United States decided to run against his boss. That the President is Barack Obama has no relevance to me.
I am not, at this point, planning on even attempting to walk back that "ever," but consider it a sign of how frustrated I am with the race.
I have not endorsed any candidate and I do not intend to endorse any candidate. But we might as well take a look at them.
2. Ohio Issue 2: Let's not over-react or fall for media templates
Issue 2 in Ohio has failed. Unions poured a gazillion dollars into Ohio and won. Despite having a sense of this outcome for some time it still stings. Believe it or not, a great many felt that these reforms were important steps in bring fiscal and structural sanity to government. The voters clearly did not get that message.
The media is going to try and play this as horse race politics. Governor John Kasich lost and the Democrats won. And obviously, in some important sense - even if only in the fact the story and perspective being conventional wisdom - this is true. Kasich and Republicans passed this legislation and it has been rejected. Fair enough.
3. "Flavor of the month" is not serious analysis
Conservative activists have this nasty habit of denigrating our own politicians, and in fact the very practice of running for office to represent our side. We kick our guys (and girls) at every opportunity, sometimes for no reason but to kick politicians.
It's in that vein that some have taken to referring to one Presidential candidate or another as the 'flavor of the month,' suggesting they're not serious people, that our electorate isn't making serious decisions, and that our choices in this election are trivial.
Not only is that not the case, but the plain fact is, the actual rise and and fall of the various candidates doesn't even match up with the trend. In particular, it's either ignorant or dishonest to put Herman Cain and Rick Perry into the same category as Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty.
4. Rick Perry on the Super Committee & Energy
In the second part of my interview with Governor Rick Perry, I asked him about the Super Committee. He tied its existence into the failure of Barack Obama's leadership. His answer transitioned us into a discussion about energy policy and the ability to create jobs in the United States based on accessing our domestic energy.

Patiently explain to a liberal why their hero Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story depends on an entirely false premise-that capitalism is the same as corporatism.
Most of Moore's targets in the movie are the unwieldy, corrupt corporations that his hero Obama has spent so much taxpayer money bribing and bailing out. They've got about as much to do with the free markets that conservatives favor as Michael Moore has with charm, wit, or healthy salads. And if he really has such a problem with capitalism, what was he doing allowing movie theaters to charge audiences eight bucks a ticket? Shouldn't he have used some of the vast fortune he has earned from books and movies railing against capitalism so that his vital public service announcement could be put out for free?

We now have a system in which young people of lower intelligence and less ambition gravitate into the teaching profession, and in which unethical and irresponsible unions protect the worst of them. And the kids aren't all right: Instead of getting a rigorous education, they get inflated grades to help them get into college (isn't it remarkable that "responsible" parents are more apt to complain about a low grade than low standards?). "Every child gets a prize" is a formula for failure later on. Our system just delays sentencing until the kid hits the job market.

To the sort of people who think that a few teenagers living in a shack on a hilltop represent the greatest threat imaginable to the peace process and world peace-- the so-called "Price Tag" attacks in which local Jewish farmers strike back against Muslim attacks as a deterrent against further violence are an obsession. Whether there are actually any "Price Tag" attacks and how many "Price Tag" attacks there are is open to question. Security agencies tasked with going after "right wing extremists" usually get their man and after a splashy announcement and prolonged detention have to let them go because their case doesn't actually exist. At that point it doesn't matter, the arrests have already been widely reported and the conclusions have all been drawn. The investigation of a mosque burning incident has already resulted in arrests of people who couldn't have physically done it. But the arrests themselves are a form of "Price Tag" exacted by the authorities against community members to send a message. It's a particularly ironic form of message when the goal is to clamp down on those types of "eye for an eye" tactics. States tend to command a monopoly on violence which is well and good, it's one of the things that states are for, and one of the few things that they do well, but that monopoly depends on the state exercising its proper function. The ugly truth is that the Israeli authorities have lost control of parts of the country, not just in places like Gaza and the West Bank which have been turned over to terrorist control, but in the Galilee and many Arab villages well within the '48 borders. A sizable percentage of Israel's Muslim population lives in "No Go Zones", areas where Israeli police cannot operate and which they do not enter except on rare occasions. This isn't an entirely new development. Arab villages ran things their way, received state funding and avoided involving outsiders in their affairs. The village elders, some of whose families had backed the Israeli side in the war, took care of business and the authorities didn't ask too many questions. The situation wasn't peaceful by any means, car thefts and copper thefts were and are common, and those cases tend not to be pursued. The owners are told by the police to accept the loss, collect the insurance and move on. Crime is widespread, income in those areas is mostly off the books and the construction is illegal and takes place on state lands. Still the arrangement was mostly stable at least until the "wages of peace" kicked in and concessions to terrorists weakened the Israeli position.

Should Treasury Sanction the Palestinian Investment Fund?
by Jonathan Schanzer Weekly Standard Online November 8, 2011
In a move that should startle members of Congress, a Palestinian sovereign wealth fund that has long received American taxpayer support will soon begin building houses for convicted members of terrorist organizations.
The Palestine News and Information Agency WAFA reported over the weekend that Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas has tapped the Palestinian Investment Fund (PIF) to build houses for the prisoners released in the October exchange that freed Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, whom Hamas had held for five years. Recipients will include convicted members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
The money that Abbas has tapped for the homes of terrorists is only the latest PIF transgression. After their release last month, the PA feted the Gaza-based prisoners at the al-Mashtal Hotel, the only five-star accommodations in Gaza-and another PIF property.

Red State Jews
An American leftist gets his moral bearings.
Thane Rosenbaum reconsiders his role as editor of Tikkun Magazine, the sort-of Jewish magazine that defamed Israel's soldiers and her people and sided with her Arab enemies as Jewish children were bleeding in the streets for the last six years.
Now, as each day brings death to IDF soldiers, Israeli civilians, and destruction rains down on Israeli cities, some in the American left finally start to get it.
It took them long enough.
P.S. The confusion of this essay speaks for itself.

By THANE ROSENBAUM
This is a soul-searching moment for the Jewish left. Actually, for many Jewish liberals, navigating the gloomy politics of the Middle East is like walking with two left feet.
I would know. For six years I was the literary editor of Tikkun magazine, a leading voice for progressive Jewish politics that never avoided subjecting Israel to moral scrutiny. I also teach human rights at a Jesuit university, imparting the lessons of reciprocal grievances and the moral necessity to regard all people with dignity and mutual respect. And I am deeply sensitive to Palestinian pain, and mortified when innocent civilians are used as human shields and then cynically martyred as casualties of war.
Yet, since 9/11 and the second intifada, where suicide bombings and beheadings have become the calling cards of Arab diplomacy, and with Hamas and Hezbollah emerging as elected entities that, paradoxically, reject the first principles of liberal democracy, I feel a great deal of moral anguish. Perhaps I have been naïve all along.

Six Enduring Principles of Reagan's Foreign Policy
These days, everybody loves Reagan. It's not just the 8 GOP candidates who are trying to out-Reagan each other on the campaign trail, liberals too-including President Obama-have developed a fondness for the Gipper (or at least their reconstituted version of Reagan). Most attempts to claim Reagan's mantle have focused on domestic policy. But Reagan did not only overcome malaise at home and launch the longest uninterrupted peacetime economic expansion in the 20th century. He also reinvigorated American foreign policy, strengthened the military and won the Cold War. With the presidential debate on foreign policy and national security in just two weeks, Heritage has just published an insightful essay by Robert Kaufman which draws out the six enduring principles of Reagan's foreign policy that should guide the thinking of prudent statesmen-on the Left and the Right: 1. There is no substitute for American power. Given the imperfections of human nature, great statesmen and decent states can only reduce but never eliminate the danger of war. The anarchy of international politics leads to frequent and severe conflict. In these circumstances, Reagan recognized that vindicating America's national interest depends on the capability and credibility of American power. Coalitions of the willing can supplement but not substitute for American power. 2. A strong defense is the best deterrent. The greatest dangers to the United States typically do not arise from vigilance or the arrogance of American power, but from unpreparedness or an excessive reluctance to fight. Retreat, retrenchment, and disarmament are historically a recipe for disaster. Consequently, the United States should strive for what Reagan's hero Winston Churchill called "overwhelming power." This posture will deter most aggressors most of the time and, when even the best deterrent sometimes fails, will defeat them at the lowest possible cost and risk. 3. Regime types matter. A prudent foreign policy is attentive to the types of regimes and their ideologies when discerning friends, foes, opportunities, and perils. Reagan distinguished sharply between stable, liberal, democratic regimes on one hand and totalitarian regimes, often animated by messianic, malevolent ideology, on the other. He rightly considered the former to be more reliable allies. 4. Think geopolitically. A prudent foreign policy considers threats, interests, and opportunities based on the imperatives of world politics rather than vague notions of cosmic justice. Since resources are finite, even a nation as powerful as the United States must prioritize wisely, without losing sight of its principles. For his entire political life, Ronald Reagan assailed isolationism, declinism, global retrenchment, American withdrawal, and the fallacy of moral equivalence, while also recoiling at the idea of exporting democracy the world over. 5. Embrace American exceptionalism. A successful foreign policy depends on a long-term strategy that combines economic prosperity at home, robust American military power, and the vitality of the American way of life. President Reagan restored American preeminence by unleashing private enterprise, deregulating the economy, lowering taxes, limiting the growth of government, spurring innovation in the private sector, completing a major military buildup, and unabashedly asserting American ideals and self-interest in a way that clearly distinguished between freedom's friends and foes. 6. Different times call for different strategies. The mark of prudential statesmanship is the capacity to discern when changing times require different measures to achieve the same goals. As Reagan frequently observed, the United States could prudently pursue a policy of armed neutrality early in its history; yet the conditions the United States faced in the 20th century called for a more vigilant, interventionist, foreign policy. Even before World War II, Reagan opposed the policy of appeasement. During the Cold War while working to contain the Soviet Union, Reagan would prudently adjust his tactics (though not his goals) and take opportunities to engage Gorbachev.
In short, Reagan's foreign policy incorporates the principles of the Founding without slighting the perennial imperatives of power and geopolitics. Looking to the 21st century, a neo-Reaganite grand strategy offers the surest guide for restoring and sustaining American greatness.

Why we need to protect America from sharia law
| | |
Last week we met our goal of reaching 30,000 signers of our petition calling for pledges of support to protect your state from sharia law. If you haven't yet signed, we encourage you to read the article below (highlights added). Your name on our petition will help us determine where to focus our efforts next year to pass laws in states to protect us from sharia law. Failing to stop the encroachment of sharia law now will only lead to more encroachment in the years to come. At best, this would mean an alternative, parallel legal system for Muslims. At worst, non-Muslims would come under sharia's reach. This is the problem countries like Britain are dealing with today. Please add your name to this important petition today. Our goal is to reach 35,000 names by the end of this week! Thank you.

November 7, 2011 Sharia's Encroachment into American CourtsJanet Levy
Currently an estimated 2.6 million observant Muslims reside in the United States. Many live their lives according to sharia law, the moral and religious code of the Islamic faith. When Muslims bring legal disputes into U.S. courts, a legal dilemma often arises, pitting individual rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and laws against Islamic sharia law. Increasingly, U.S. courts have yielded to sharia. In effect, our judicial system is failing to adhere to the very beliefs on which this country was founded. Sharia advocates are overturning our long-held legal traditions to follow precepts laid down by a faith that represents less than one percent of our population and whose beliefs are at odds with U.S. legal and spiritual history. Massachusetts School District Marks Muslim Holiday
Published November 07, 2011 | FoxNews.com
Some Massachusetts public school students have a day off this week, but it has nothing to do with power outages or snow.
The Cambridge school system is believed to be the first in Massachusetts to give all students a day off for a Muslim holiday.
Students are getting Tuesday off for Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, the Boston Globe reports.
"We're ecstatic about this," Atif Harden, interim executive director of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, told the newspaper. "This is the first year that it's going to occur. This sort of recognition of our existence and the population we have, we feel very good about."
The day off was approved by the school committee last year because of the district's sizable Muslim population.

Look who's behind Occupy Jew-hating
Latest astonishing claim: Protests represent Torah
Posted: November 07, 2011
By Aaron Klein © 2011 WND
NEW YORK - In the face of mounting charges of anti-Semitism at Occupy sites nationwide, several so-called Jewish groups have been attempting to spin the protest movement as Jew-friendly and even representative of Jewish ideals.
Most prominent among the groups is Jewish Funds for Justice, or JFFJ, which is funded by billionaire George Soros.
A number of other Soros-funded progressive groups are also behind the drive to deny that Occupy contains significant anti-Semitic elements.
WND found JFFJ is led by individuals associated with communist and socialist groups, the children of Soviet spies and a U.S. socialist organization that seeks to infiltrate the Democratic Party.
JFFJ has been widely quoted in the news media in recent weeks portraying the Occupy movement as representing Jewish values.

Argument recap: Who controls foreign policy?
Analysis
Probing deeply into how the Constitution divides up powers, and delving into presidential history back to George Washington's day, the Supreme Court reacted negatively on Monday to the federal government's sweeping view that only the President can decide an issue that may affect U.S. dealings with foreign governments. Still, the Court appeared to be leaning toward giving the White House a more modest victory over Congress in a fascinating case that clearly lived up to its billing as a historic constitutional test.
The Court has not heard an argument about "inherent" powers of the presidency since the Bush Administration's claims about its "war on terror," but it heard something very close to that from the Obama Administration's top government advocate, who insisted that the President should win this foreign policy controversy even if there is nothing in the Constitution's text that would justify it. That produced only heavy skepticism on the bench, making it seem that U.S. Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., had overplayed his hand on his biggest point.
On the surface, all that might seem to be at stake in Zivotofsky v. Clinton (10-699) was whether some 50,000 Americans who were born in Jerusalem can have their birth certificates and passports show that they were born in Israel, as Congress in 2002 said they should. And a Washington lawyer for the Zivotofsky family, Nathan Lewin, tried very hard to make the case that, in fact, it came down to a single line on a passport to help identify Jerusalem-born Americans as they travel overseas.

Auto da fe in Paris: it's no joke

The brand new-and deliberately unmarked-- offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in the 20th arrondissement of Paris were destroyed by arson hours before a special issue, renamed Charia Hebdo, hit the newsstands on November 2nd. All 75,000 copies were sold out by noon (a rerun went on sale two days later, bringing total sales to 200,000). One or more firebombs aimed precisely at the IT department wiped out the satirical magazine's nerve center. Charlie Hebdo's Facebook page had been bombarded with threats, insults, and koranic verses since it pre-released the front page with a caricature of guest editor Mohamed promising 100 lashes to anyone who doesn't die laughing. As the offices went up in flames, the hacked website was plastered with a photo of Mecca packed with pilgrims, and the declaration, in English, "No god but Allah / Mohamed is the Messenger of Allah."
This shocking attack on press freedom inspired a rush of near-unanimous solidarity in French society. Unambiguously labeling the act an "attentat," meaning "terrorist attack," Interior Minister Claude Guéant promised to find and severely punish the perpetrator(s). Various Muslim authorities condemned "all violence," reiterated their disapproval of caricatures of Mohamed and other insults to Islam, and vowed to defend their religion as law-abiding citizens, in the courts.

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer COUNTDOWN TO VICTORY: 364 DAYS TO THE 2012 ELECTIONS Is There A Conservative Alternative Despite the media's narrative, the GOP has never been a monolithic body. There has always been a conservative/establishment divide. Goldwater vs. Rockefeller. Reagan vs. Ford. But among grassroots activists, there is a gnawing fear that there may not be an electable conservative candidate in this election. Herman Cain was rapidly becoming that candidate, but now sexual harassment allegations are threatening to torpedo his candidacy. Conservatives are not yet abandoning Cain at the grass roots but some very good conservative leaders are now demanding he put this issue to rest so we can focus on the most important goal -- defeating Barack Obama.
- Bill Bennett said, "For we who led the charge against Bill Clinton on a number of related issues to continue to blame the media or other campaigns or say it simply doesn't matter makes us the hypocrites as well."
- Penny Nance of Concerned Women for America, said, "Mr. Cain needs to address these new allegations head on. Unlike anonymous allegations, Ms. Bialek appeared credible and I was very disturbed by her characterization of what happened. Whoever Republican primary voters choose as president should be a man or woman of good moral character. We said when Bill Clinton was president that character counts and we still believe that."
- Bob Vander Plaats, a key conservative leader in Iowa, said, "This is a 'tipping point' for the viability of his campaign."
Polling suggests Cain's favorability rating is starting to take a hit. For example, in the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, Cain's negatives doubled from 18% to 35%. In head-to-head match ups, Obama narrowly beats Mitt Romney, but he trounces Herman Cain by 15 points. On a late-night comedy show last night, Herman Cain categorically denied the allegations made against him yesterday against by Sharon Bialek. Cain said, "There is not an ounce of truth to all these allegations," and he called Bialek's claims "totally fabricated." He went on to say, "I'm going to talk about it. We are taking this head on." Cain has scheduled a press conference today at 5:00 PM ET to "set the record straight." If Herman Cain hopes to continue as the conservative alternative in this campaign, this may be the most important press conference of his career. I pray he will have the strength and wisdom to deal with the controversy. Obama Disses Netanyahu Again If you had any questions about where Barack Obama really stands on Israel, his recent comments caught on an open mic should settle it for you. At the G20 summit in Cannes, France, last week, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said to Obama, "I cannot bear [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu, he's a liar." Rather than defend our ally, Obama responded, "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!" It's clear that Barack Obama has no respect for Benjamin Netanyahu. On his early trips to Washington, Obama denied the Israeli leader common courtesies afforded to other national leaders. Obama has refused to have his picture taken with Netanyahu, forced him to leave the White House from a side door and blindsided him with surprise announcements like calling for Israel to retreat to its indefensible 1967 borders. Unlike some U.S. politicians, Netanyahu has not been cowed into submission by Obama's bullying. The mullahs in Tehran must be laughing at us. Just days before the world was set to receive an update on Iran's nuclear weapons program, Obama was unable to overcome his own pettiness and stand firmly with our ally as it faces a growing existential threat. Commenting on Obama's remark, Reuters noted, "The technical gaffe is likely to cause great embarrassment to all three leaders as they look to work together to intensify international pressure on Iran over its nuclear ambitions." Learning From The Chinese At various times in his presidency, Barack Obama has paid homage to the Chinese -- from suggesting we follow their example on clean energy subsidies to whining about how much easier it is for Chinese President Hu Jintao to run his country. Since he has such an "affinity for China" I wonder what his reaction is to Jin Liqun, the chairman of China's sovereign wealth fund, who, when asked whether China would bailout Greece and Europe, said this:
"If you look at the troubles which happened in European countries, this is purely because of the accumulated troubles of the worn out welfare society. I think the labor laws are outdated. The labor laws induce sloth, indolence, rather than hardworking. The incentive system is totally out of whack. "Why should, for instance, within [the] eurozone some member's people have to work to 65, even longer, whereas in some other countries they are happily retiring at 55, languishing on the beach? This is unfair. The welfare system is good for any society to reduce the gap, to help those who happen to have disadvantages, to enjoy a good life, but a welfare society should not induce people not to work hard."
I am almost speechless. It seems one of China's communist leaders understands the capitalist system better than Barack Obama, who is praising the Occupy Wall Street mob as he leads us down the same dead-end road of big government socialism that is now threatening to bankrupt Europe! More OWS Extremism Every day it seems we get more examples of extremism within the Occupy Wall Street movement. The latest comes from store owners and street vendors who say the thugs are getting violent and threatening them if they don't give them free food. Today's New York Post quotes the owner of a sandwich shop across from Zuccotti Park saying, "I've been told to 'Watch your back!' 10 times." OWS protestors have been regularly using her bathroom to bathe. But two weeks ago, they broke a sink and clogged a toilet, causing a flood and $3,000 of damage. Other protestors have come in and unplugged an ATM machine and the shop's computers. Meanwhile, on the Left Coast, two street vendors in San Diego had to shut down their businesses after occupiers trashed their carts when they stopped providing free food. One of the carts reportedly had "urine and blood splattered on it." Where have we seen this before? In the aftermath of Proposition 8 in California, when the majority of voters decided to preserve normal marriage in the Golden State, the intolerant left trashed churches and tried to shut down businesses. For all its rhetoric about equality and justice, the left has a skewed sense of fairness and is quick to resort to violence. The God Whisperer
This column by ACRU Senior Legal Analyst Jan LaRue was published November 6, 2011 on the American Thinker website.
"I think I have an ongoing conversation with God. Throughout the day I'm constantly asking myself questions about what I'm doing, why I am doing it." --Barack Obama Christine Falsani of the Chicago Sun Times interviewed then-U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama in 2004 about his religious beliefs. According to Falsani:
Obama reads the Bible, though not as regularly as he'd like given the ever-increasing demands on his time that political life has brought. But he does find time to pray. "It's not formal, me getting on my knees," he says. "I think I have an ongoing conversation with God. Throughout the day I'm constantly asking myself questions about what I'm doing, why I am doing it. ... And so the biggest challenge, I think, is always maintaining your moral compass. Those are the conversations I'm having with God internally. I'm measuring my actions against that inner voice that, for me at least, is audible, is active. It tells me where I think I'm on track and where I'm off track. ... He uses prayer as a litmus test for altruism? 'Yeah, something like that,' he says, smiling sheepishly. 'The most powerful political moments for me come when I feel like my actions are aligned with a certain truth. I can feel it. When I'm talking to a group and I'm saying something truthful, I can feel a power that comes out of those statements that is different than when I'm just being glib or clever.'"

In Socialism We Trust?
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Robert Knight was published November 7, 2011 in The Washington Times.
"In God We Trust" is the national motto, even though Barack Obama told a Jakarta, Indonesia, audience last November that our national motto is "E Pluribus Unum" ( "Out of many, one"). At least President Obama got the translation right. Al Gore once said that it meant "Out of one, many." Perhaps he was employing the same math formulas that work so well in his global-warming calculations. But I digress. The real motto is, indeed, "In God We Trust," and Congress re-emphasized this on Oct. 25, passing a resolution saying so in a 396-9 vote. Sponsored by Rep. J. Randy Forbes, Virginia Republican, the bill affirms the motto and "encourages its display in public buildings and government institutions." Mr. Forbes explained that the reminder was needed in light of Mr. Obama's recasting of the motto and also because of the mysterious replacement of the motto at the National Capitol Visitors Center "with stars in a replica of the House Chamber - and cropping an actual picture of the chamber so you could not see the words 'In God We Trust.'"

If Israel Strikes
This column by ACRU Senior Fellow Ken Blackwell was published November 4, 2011 on Townhall.com.
The headlines are stark indeed. "Israel Readies a Pre-Emptive Strike." Israeli Prime Minister is said to be working to persuade reluctant members of his coalition Cabinet to go along with such a military option against Islamist Iran. The Huffington Post's British edition reports Netanyahu saying this: "One of those regional powers is Iran, which is continuing its efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. A nuclear Iran would constitute a grave threat to the Middle East and the entire world, and of course it is a direct and grave threat on us." One day later, defense minister Ehud Barak, struck a similar tone. "A situation could be created in the Middle East in which Israel must defend its vital interests in an independent fashion, without necessarily having to reply on other forces, regional or otherwise," he said. Ehud Barak's comments are most interesting. He was the Labor Party Prime Minister in 2000 who offered the Palestinians 97% of the territory they claimed as theirs, reserving only those limited regions thought absolutely essential to Israeli security. The Palestinians balked and commenced yet another "intifada" uprising. The leaders of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) then would rather send stone-throwing teenagers to confront armed Israeli soldiers and tanks than engage in serious negotiations for peace. Ehud Barak could qualify as an Israeli "dove," but he is first and foremost a soldier and an Israeli patriot. It's not so surprising that the hawkish Benjamin Netanyahu should be talking of a military strike against Iran. When Ehud Barak joins this conversation, you know it's serious.

Want to know what we're up against? And, why we're going to defeat them?
This past weekend over 2,000 leading grassroots activists from across the nation joined us for AFP Foundation's 5th annual Defending the American Dream Summit in Washington, D.C.
During our "Tribute to Ronald Reagan" dinner on Friday night, the protesters with Occupy Wall Street stormed the convention center trying to take away our 1st Amendment rights. Click here to see video! (http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=nqLPKYOEKfJMI6K&s=flLZJdOSKhKPIcMWJrF&m=efIMIRNsE7KHJ3I)
Their violence, vile language, and disrespect for fellow Americans was outrageous. One of our activists who is wheel-chair bound was denied use of the ramp to depart the center. A 78 year old grandmother from Michigan was assaulted and knocked down. The 7 year old child of one of our AFP Foundation activists was cursed and jostled.
Not surprisingly, our 2,000 plus activists stayed calm and peaceful. The next morning, they poured right back into the Washington Convention Center for the second day of the Summit -- receiving training on how to be even more effective grassroots leaders and hearing from the Great One, Mark Levin, and from Andrew Breitbart. The day before, Herman Cain, Governor Mitt Romney, and America's mayor, Rudy Giuliani, laid out their vision for our nation. Click here to see video of the speakers at the Summit! (http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=qjJVL7PQIiITKgJ&s=flLZJdOSKhKPIcMWJrF&m=efIMIRNsE7KHJ3I)
I, for one, welcome these Occupy Wall Street protesters. Sure, it's uncomfortable when they're shouting vulgarities at children, destroying property, breaking the law, or spewing hatred. But know this, the Occupy Wall Street protesters offer our nation a crystal clear choice between their way of thinking and AFP Foundation and the Tea Party movement. They possess a vehement hatred of free enterprise and capitalism. They openly call for socialism. We know that free enterprise has lifted more Americans out of the muck and mire of poverty and despair than any economic system in world history. They call for violence, break the law, and disrespect fellow Americans. We respect the law and work to peacefully support sound policy for our nation.
Occupy Wall Street is based on anger and envy. They want to use government to tear down fellow Americans to suit their ideological agenda. Their calling card - class warfare and unrestrained envy. At Americans for Prosperity Foundation, we know that Americans are not envious. They desire only an opportunity to go out and earn their version of the American dream.
So, we can be confident in the face of their hatred. Calm in the face of their law breaking and violence, secure in the knowledge that the American people are with us...if we remain bold in espousing our free market principles and determined in our grassroots activism.
Sincerely,
Tim Phillips

'Smart Meters' - the New Silent Killer - OBOZO is pushing to expose most U.S. Citizens to constant radiofrequency / lectromagnetic radiation (RF/EMR) everywhere.
'Smart Meters' - the New Silent Killer
There is a major war being waged in this country, although you'd never know it by the silence from the old, disgraced media (ABC, CBS, NBC) and all the cable "news" networks. This new assault on our bodies and privacy is over another relatively new piece of technology that allegedly will save energy; it will also cost tens of thousands of jobs for meter readers. When I say millions of Americans are up in arms over this, I am not exaggerating. If you are unfamiliar with this issue, please read.....
Part 1
http://www.newswithviews.com/Devvy/kidd508.htm Part II
"If this radiation were a drug, increasing the dose and type would not be allowed without thorough evaluation of safety because like drugs, it can cause changes in the biology of the body. This radiation promotes degenerative diseases and premature aging even at levels of RF/EMR below FCC limits.
Numerous other risks to human health from radiofrequency/microwave (RF/MW) radiation exposure, particularly to children and persons with disabilities, at levels below the current FCC limits are summarized in the review articles published in the March 2009 issue of Pathophysiology that are based on The BioInitiative Report: A Rationale for a Biologically-based Public Exposure Standard for Electromagnetic Fields (ELF and RF) (The BioInitiative Report).
Billions of Taxpayer $$$ Wasted on Risky Technology
"This is federal coercion on a grand scale. OBOZO is pushing to expose most U.S. Citizens to constant radiofrequency/lectromagnetic radiation (RF/EMR) everywhere. Wireless broadband sends RF/EMR throughout an area rather than directly through a shielded wire or cable to the electronic device being used. Constantly exposing everyone inside and outside of their homes and workplaces in over 98% of the U.S. To unprecedented levels and frequencies of RF/EMR with wireless signals is a dangerous, unsanctioned, mass experiment done without consent that must not occur. This initiative risks our finances, our health, privacy, cyber security, the ability of people with medical device implants to function and more.
Very important:
Dirty Electricity - "Dirty Electricity tells the story of Dr. Samuel Milham, the scientist who first alerted the world about the frightening link between occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic pollution, and human disease. Milham takes readers through his early years and education, following the twisting path that led to his discovery that most of the twentieth century diseases of civilization, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and suicide, are caused by electromagnetic field exposure."

California Recall ... Beginning of the End for Smart Meters?
Thursday, November 03, 2011
PG&E BEGINS REMOVING 'SMART' METERS DUE TO HEALTH EFFECTS ... Widening Call for Immediate Return of Analogs; Disconnection of "Mesh" Wireless Network. SANTA CRUZ, CA-Just as PG&E enters the final phase of its deployment of wireless "smart" meters in California, the largest of the state's Investor Owned Utilities (IOU's) has reversed course, quietly beginning to replace the 'smart' meters of those reporting health impacts with the old trusty analog version. Consumer rights and health groups immediately seized on the news, demanding that millions of Californians unhappy with their new wireless meters get their analogs returned immediately at no cost. 'Smart' meters are new wireless utility meters being installed as part of the "smart" grid initiative, spearheaded by technology firms and backed by the Obama administration and the Department of Energy. Promises ranging from lower utility bills to enhanced renewable generation capacity have failed to materialize, with widespread reports of higher bills, privacy violations, fires and explosions, and commonly reported health impacts such as headaches, nausea, tinnitus, and heart problems associated with powerful wireless transmissions. - Press release from StopSmartMeters.org

Why We Should Be Unfair to Herman Cain
Posted By Andrew Klavan On November 7, 2011
"We're from the mainstream media and we're here to help."
Conservatives have been expressing genuine anguish at the recent treatment of Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain.
It isn't fair, they say. In 1998, when Newsweek reporter Michael Isikoff got the full details of President Bill Clinton's adulterous affair with a 21-year-old intern, the magazine killed the story, leaving the nascent new media, in the person of The Drudge Report [1], to bring it to light. In 2007, when John Edwards was still a viable Democratic presidential candidate, the National Enquirer [2] broke the news of his illicit affair and illegitimate child, but the mainstream media actually covered it up, with one CNN journalist explaining it was "unimportant."
And yet when the left wing news website Politico [3] recently published anonymous allegations about 10-year-old sexual harassment complaints against Cain, the mainstream media lit up like a Christmas tree. For a week, the aforementioned CNN and the other left wing outlets went wall-to-wall with the charges. And now, with Sharon Bialek finally stepping forward [4] to make more detailed accusations in person-accusations Cain wholly denies-we can be sure the story will remain explosive for some time to come.
Not only is the news coverage of alleged sexual misconduct different according to political affiliation, the consequences of actual misconduct are often quite different as well. Republican congressman Mark Foley sent suggestive emails to male pages; he resigned under GOP pressure. Democratic congressman Gerry Studds actually had sex with one of the boys, then flung defiance at the House when they censured him; he was re-elected by Democrats until his retirement.
And what if a drunken Republican senator had accidentally dropped a car containing his adultery mate into the water? What if he had sauntered back to his hotel to clean up while the poor woman desperately pounded on the car window until she drowned horribly? Would conservatives have re-elected that man? Would they have declared that man "The Lion of the Senate?" The very idea makes one ill. Conservatives would have demanded his arrest and trial with a single voice.

That sort of thing of black sexuality -- predatory black sexuality. Very frightening in this country, still. Very threatening. So we'll see how that plays out."

Just when I thought confidence in government couldn't get any lower, Barack Obama's anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder opened his mouth on Capitol Hill. Today, testifying under oath before the U.S. Senate, Eric Holder came up with every excuse he could think of to defend the indefensible -- the ATF's gun-smuggling operation, "Fast & Furious." Holder placed the blame for his gun-smuggling operation on the lack of new gun control laws -- specifically, a national gun registry. And when asked to apologize to the family of murdered American Bolder Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Eric Holder refused to do so, and then stated that "I have not apologized to them." Holder pulled out every trick in the book in order to pass the buck for his ATF's disastrous actions. I'm shaking with outrage. You should be, too. Eric Holder must go once and for all ... ... but it won't happen unless you make your voice heard on Capitol Hill -- IMMEDIATELY! So, please sign your Fire Eric Holder petition right now so my staff can flood Capitol Hill with tens of thousands of petitions from enraged gun rights activists demanding that Eric Holder be fired:
After you sign your petition, I'm asking you to chip in $15 or 20 to help NAGR reach as many gun rights activists as possible to mobilize against Eric Holder and the White House. You see, Barack Obama's administration is filled with anti-gun zealots like Eric Holder working day and night to find a way -- any way -- to restrict our Second Amendment rights. And with the 2012 elections right around the corner, the pressure is on in Washington to pass some form of gun control. So when I heard Eric Holder testify before Congress today that "we have a responsibility to act" and pass gun control, I pressed the big red alert button in my office and ordered my staff to call all hands on deck. I've asked my staff here at NAGR to use every resource we have available to mobilize as many gun activists as we can contact and urge them to put pressure on Capitol Hill to Fire Eric Holder. Please sign your petition to Fire Eric Holder -- at once!
I know how these anti-gunners operate, and Eric Holder isn't any different. In order to deflect from the ATF's disastrous "Fast & Furious" operation, Holder testified that any criticism of himself or his agency was "cynical" and "overheated." Senator Mike Lee of Utah, a friend of the National Association for Gun Rights, asked Mr. Holder if he had made any mistakes in connection with "Fast & Furious." Mr. Holder brazenly said, "I think I acted in a responsible way." Holder even went so far as to say that "I did not know about Fast and Furious until it became public." It's quite clear that Barack Obama and Eric Holder are in this for the long haul. You and I only have one choice -- double down. Crank up the pressure on Congress to Fire Eric Holder by signing your petition:
Please make sure to chip in $15 or $20 right after you have signed your Fire Eric Holder petition. "Fast & Furious" was a tool used by Barack Obama's ATF to push gun control on the American people. Gun rights activists like you and me must never rest in our battle to fight gun-grabbers like Eric Holder. One month from today, December 8, Eric Holder testifies before a House committee. I'll be sure to keep you updated with any new developments. Please sign your petition to Fire Eric Holder at once so that members of Congress know that gun owners like you are demanding that Eric Holder be fired. For Freedom, Dudley Brown Executive Director P.S. Barack Obama's anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder testified before the U.S. Senate today and did everything he could to pass blame for the ATF's disastrous gun-smuggling operation, "Fast & Furious." On December 8, Holder will testify before a House committee -- please sign your Fire Eric Holder petition at once so that my staff can flood Capitol Hill with tens of thousands of petitions from enraged gun rights activists like you:
And once you sign your petition, please chip in $15 or $20 to help finance this battle.

"You need someone like me in Washington,": Romney's curious timing in his support for abortion Nov 07, 2011 01:13 pm | Coach Collins By Kevin "Coach" Collins During a September 2002 meeting with NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Willard Romney made this implied promise, "You need someone like me in Washington." Both Willard and the baby killing ghouls of NARAL knew what was being discussed. He was running for Governor of Massachusetts and clearly looking past his anticipated victory to a day when he could stop pretending he cared about pro-life issues and show his true devotion to their "cause" from the White House. Romney made it quite clear that NARAL would have a friend in the State House and eventually in the White House if they helped elect him as Governor; which they did. Sucking up to the baby killers, Romney said, once he ascended to the White House, he would be a "good voice in the [Republican] party [for promoting abortion]" and he reminded them his "moderate" views on abortion have been, "widely written about." Keeping his promise ... Continue Reading:"You need someone like me in Washington,": Romney's curious timing in his support for abortion comments | read more

Filmmaker Evan Coyne Maloney took a walk through Zuccotti Park and played a quiz game with a number of Occupiers. He put together this entertaining video of the occasion. In general, his interactions with the Occupiers were remarkably cordial, and it appears that some of them learned a few things. My favorite moment involves the guy who admires Che Guevara and says he sometimes goes by the name "Che," but doesn't look like he would fare very well in a Colombian jungle. (Then again, neither did Che.) Anyway, here is the video:

There They Go Again, Again

(Steven Hayward)
There's a splendid line in The Queen, the film about how the royal family responded to the death of Princess Diana in 1997, where the new Prime Minister Tony Blair (played pitch perfect by Michael Sheen) turns savagely on his press assistant Alastair Campbell and says, "When you get it wrong, you really get it wrong!"
The line comes immediately to mind when seeing the latest issue of The Economist, whose coverage and analysis I have praised here several times before. But this week's first "leader," as the Brits call their unsigned house editorials, about political gridlock in the U.S. goes off the rails by endorsing the usual disingenuous lefty clichés. About the inability of the two parties to reach an agreement to defuse Obama's debt bomb, The Economist says "The right is mostly to blame."
That's pretty rich. Let's see how this works: Obama and the Pelosi-Reid Congress pass a $1 trillion spending bill and Obamacare, both of which ratchet up the size of government from roughly 21 percent of GDP to about 25 percent of GDP, and it's the fault of the right for saying no to more taxes?
But The Economist really gets it wrong in the sequel: "Ronald Reagan, a divorcee who did little for the pro-life lobby and raised taxes when he had to, would never be nominated today."
Sigh. When The Economist gets it wrong, they really get it wrong. Just go back to the tape and ask the pro-abortion community in the 1980s about whether the Reagan administration took no steps to promote the pro-life cause. Anyone remember the fuss over the "squeal rule," where the administration attempted to require parental notification for any minors seeking an abortion at any federally funded (that is, Planned Parenthood) clinic? You'd have thought the dark night of fascism had arrived. And of course the pro-abortionists rushed to court to get a federal judge to block the measure. And how about the "baby doe" regs, which required hospitals to guarantee medical treatment to infants born handicapped, in an effort to stop the rare and unspoken practice of de facto infanticide whereby hospitals allow deformed newborns to die. Go back and read the breathless New York Times editorials of the time and what the media said then about Reagan "doing little" for the pro-life cause. I'll bet if I look long enough in the archives I'll find a few arched eyebrows at The Economist. But life is too short to waste time twitting twits at that level of detail.
To be sure, two of Reagan's Supreme Court nominees failed to deliver as expected (though we forget that O'Connor's first opinion on an abortion case in 1983, a dissent, argued strongly against Roe v. Wade), which accounts for much of the disappointment of the time. But as the pro-life community came to learn, the role of public persuasion had been neglected. In this respect, don't forget Reagan's 1984 book, Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation. Reagan's political advisers were nervous about publishing such a book so close to his re-election campaign. Reagan replied: "I might not be re-elected. We're going with it now." Reagan was the first sitting president to publish a book, and seldom has any president since Lincoln spoken so openly and forcefully about such a contentious moral issue. He was just as direct and unequivocal as Lincoln: "Make no mistake, abortion-on-demand is not a right granted by the Constitution." Roe was an act of "raw judicial power," Reagan said, comparable to Dred Scott: "This is not the first time our country has been divided by a Supreme Court decision that denied the value of certain human lives." Some of Reagan's language was bracing: "The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of a tiny baby to make sure all its parts have been torn from its mother's body can hardly doubt whether it is a human being." The media said such a controversial article by a sitting president was "rare" and "unusual."
Are any of the supposedly more extreme Republican candidates, even Rick Santorum, speaking this way today about abortion?
I've already linked before to my Commentary magazine article last month that disposes of the other distortion The Economist passes along-Reagan "raised taxes when he had to"-so I won't belabor that point again here. But the last claim is the real howler: Reagan "would never be nominated today." This is so ludicrous it is beyond stupid.
The truth of course is exactly the opposite. Most Democratic champions of the previous two generations could not be nominated today, like Harry Truman and JFK, because they aren't far enough left for today's Democrats. In 1972 George McGovern had two pro-life Catholic running mates (Thomas Eagleton and then Sargent Shriver), and in 1976 Shriver ran in the primaries. As we know, by 1992 Democrats wouldn't allow a pro-life speaker at their national convention.
But remember the media meme: it's Republicans who are extremists. Rinse and repeat.
From a disclosed location

(Scott Johnson)
Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol spoke last night at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Bill spoke as the the St. Olaf College Political Awareness Committee fall speaker.
I picked Bill up from the airport and drove him down to his lodging in Northfield at a fully disclosed location, as I sought to document in the photo I took with my iPhone (below). I don't think I have ever used the camera app on the phone before. Getting it from the phone to the site and getting it to align vertically have been a challenge - I usually have to ask John Hinderaker or our publisher, Joe Malchow, for help on technical issues - and I don't want to waste the effort.
Bill earned his Ph.D. in government at Harvard as a student of Harvey Mansfield. Leaving academia after teaching at the University of Pennsylvania, he served as chief of staff to Bill Bennett when he was Secretary of Education during Reagan's second term and then as chief of staff for Vice President Quayle during the Bush administration. He took a timeout to help kill Hillarycare in 1993-94 before moving on to found the Weekly Standard in the wake of the historic midterm congressional elections of 1994. Bill wears his learning lightly, but he brings deep knowledge and a long perspective to his analysis of current events.
Coincidentally, Bill served as the keynote speaker at the Buckley Program event at Yale this past weekend, discussed in the adjacent post. Yesterday we had a chance to discuss current events, including the OWS protests. We think they signify something important about the American left, though we are still working on exactly what that might be. While Obama is taking us back to the days of Jimmy Carter, OWS seems to represent a case of the left's eternal return to adolescence and the 1960s. (That's me speaking, not Bill.) Next time around I'll shoot for one of those four-minute videos that Steve Hayward has been working up for us.
God and the Buckley Program at Yale

(Scott Johnson)
Over the past weekend, the new student group named the William F. Buckley, Jr. Program at Yale hosted an auspicious conference commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the publication of Bill Buckley's seminal book, God and Man at Yale. Peter Berkowitz wrote about the event here for RealClearPolitics; the Wall Street Journal published Neal Freeman's remarks at the conference here. Berkowitz explains in his column that Lauren Noble '11 teamed up with a few friends to launch the Buckley Program in the spring semester of her senior year.
We invited Buckley Program president Nathaniel Zelinksy '13 to report on the event for our readers. He writes:
On November 4, 200 Yale alumni, students and faculty gathered to commemorate the 60th anniversary of William F. Buckley, Jr.'s God and Man at Yale. Hosted by the Buckley Program - an all student-run group dedicated to promoting intellectual diversity on Yale's campus - the event reflected the best characteristics of the "patron saint" of modern conservatism: Sharp wit, intelligence, and depth of thought. Speakers included Dr. Henry Kissinger, a lifelong friend of Buckley's, National Review's Rich Lowry, and Weekly Standard founder-editor Bill Kristol, among others.
It is safe to say that God and Man at Yale launched the conservative movement sixty years ago. The book placed Buckley on the national scene, establishing him as a voice for reasoned, well written, but unapologetic conservatism. Without it, WFB may never have founded National Review, never inspired Barry Goldwater, and never have laid the foundation for Ronald Reagan's presidency.
Six-decades later, William F. Buckley Jr. has no heir apparent to speak with his authority. In fact, the current, anti-intellectual political climate discourages another WFB from blossoming. With the lack of true diversity of thought on college campuses, finding another Buckley may be a long time in coming.
The Buckley Program at Yale strives to correct this trend and live up to its namesake's legacy. It provides a missing part of the legitimate academic discourse through hosting speakers, sponsoring debates and funding summer internships at conservative publications. Buckley Student Fellows range from pre-meds to classics majors to aspiring physicists and economists. Only a year old, the Program has been met with acclaim on campus for its thoughtful discussion, which draws students of all political stripes and ideologies.
While only time will tell what impact it has at Yale, the Program is poised to recharge campus sixty years after Buckley first published his wake-up call to the nation. For more information on the program, visit www.BuckleyProgram.com.
Mr. Zelinsky forwards the photograph below from this past weekend's festivities. In the photo former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger speaks with Bill Kristol and Yale's esteemed Professor (and member of the Buckley Program faculty board of advisors) Donald Kagan.

He has to deal with that miscreant Benjamin Netanyahu every day! That is what President Obama said, apparently, to Nicolas Sarkozy when he thought his microphone was turned off. Drudge is headlining this story, so it is not exactly a scoop. But it still deserves notice:
French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly told US President Barack Obama that he could not "stand" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that he thinks the Israeli premier "is a liar."
According to a Monday report in the French website "Arret sur Images," after facing reporters for a G20 press conference on Thursday, the two presidents retired to a private room, to further discuss the matters of the day.
The conversation apparently began with President Obama criticizing Sarkozy for not having warned him that France would be voting in favor of the Palestinian membership bid in UNESCO despite Washington's strong objection to the move.
The conversation then drifted to Netanyahu, at which time Sarkozy declared: "I cannot stand him. He is a liar." According to the report, Obama replied: "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!"
The remark was naturally meant to be said in confidence, but the two leaders' microphones were accidently left on, making the would-be private comment embarrassingly public.
The communication faux pas went unnoticed for several minutes, during which the conversation between the two heads of state - which quickly reverted to other matters - was all but open to members the press, who were still in possession of headsets provided by the Elysée for the sake of simultaneous translation during the G20 press conference.
I have seen things of that sort happen-once, for example, a speaker at a seminar forgot to remove his lapel microphone when he was finished talking and it continued broadcasting to the auditorium while he walked backstage and went to the men's room. Embarrassing, to be sure-but heads of state should exercise more caution.
Apparently this story is just now leaking out because the reporters who were present signed an agreement to keep quiet about Obama's and Sarkozy's inadvertently public comments. It will be interesting to see whether the U.S. press exercises the same discretion without being bound to any such agreement.

Carlos the Jackal was active during the 1970s and 1980s. I dimly remember him from that era, but had either forgotten or never knew most of the details of his terrorist career. That era is being recalled, as Carlos went on trial today in Paris for four bombings in the 1980s that killed eleven people.
Carlos, if like me you don't remember much about him, is a Venezuelan whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez. Now 62, he is a lifelong Communist who embarked on his career of terrorism at an early age. He was kicked out of Moscow University at age 21, whereupon he joined the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and was sent to a training camp run by the Iraqi military. (By that time he had already been trained in guerrilla warfare by the Cuban General Intelligence Directorate.) He conducted terrorist attacks across Europe, including England, France, Austria and West Berlin. He collaborated with East Germany's Stasi and hid out in Beirut. He was finally captured in Sudan in 1994, tried and imprisoned for life. No doubt there is a good reason why he is only now facing the current charges, but I haven't seen an explanation.
It is interesting how much of the current generation of terrorism was anticipated by Carlos's career. His techniques were mostly similar-car bombings, assassinations, bombs on trains, hostage-taking. Like many of today's terrorists, he seamlessly fused the apparently incompatible doctrines of Marxism and radical Islam. Carlos converted to Islam in 1975. He enthusiastically supported Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. While his main theater of operations was Europe, he identified the U.S. and Israel as his "main imperialist enemies." His line of BS is interchangeable with what we hear from today's terrorists:
Supporting her husband before the trial, Ms Coutant-Peyre said: "He is not a criminal but a politician, like Nelson Mandela. He is a freedom fighter - a revolutionary."
When it was pointed out that Carlos had admitted killing hundreds during his career as a "super terrorist," Ms Coutant-Peyre said: "It's very unfortunate for the victims, but there's always a reason in international politics."
The current trial is something of a spectacle. Security is tight; the dock where Carlos sits is fronted with bulletproof glass and topped with a cage ceiling:
Not that Carlos apparently has much to fear from the packed gallery, much of which shares his wife's assessment of his career:
Speaking to confirm his real name - Ilich Ramirez Sanchez - Carlos looked relaxed and calm in jeans, sweatshirt, and a blue casual jacket as he smiled and raised his arm in a clenched-fist salute.
During a number of interventions, Carlos was cheered from the public gallery as he blamed "Imperialists" for waging war on Muslims, and attacked the "racist Zionists of Israel." ...
Supporters attending the court included a number of Venezuelans who view Carlos as a political prisoner. As their applause intensified, judges called for order, saying that a courtroom was not a place to hold a political demonstration.
In general, Carlos seems to have made a success of his career as a terrorist. Currently on a hunger strike-that's the report, anyway; he looks well-fed-Carlos apparently has not been made to experience any particular discomfort, despite admitting to hundreds of murders. He has been married three times, most recently to a lawyer, the woman quoted above, who is participating in his defense: "the notorious womanizer married [her] in prison a decade ago."
Is the era of the celebrity terrorist over, or will Khalid Sheik Mohammed someday be cheered by adoring crowds who accept that he, too, is "a politician, like Nelson Mandela?"
Occupy crime wave update

(Scott Johnson)
It's tough to keep up with the crime wave associated with the Occupy encampments around the United States and Canada, but we're doing our best. We just caught up with Carl Stevens's WBZ NewsRadio 1030 report that three people arrested Thursday night inside the Occupy Boston camp have been charged with dealing crack cocaine.
Stevens spent the night at the camp a few weeks ago and talked to a man who spends most nights at Occupy Boston. He testified that things have gone downhill. "Things have changed drastically. It seems to be deteriorating," the man told Stevens. "A lot of drug use, alcohol use, people getting into fights...It's deteriorating pretty quick," he said.
The news report indicates that there's a growing concern among the Boston police that people getting out of prison are joining the encampment for the free food and shelter. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino's sentiment reflects that concern, but it also reflects the pathetic liberal governance that has encouraged the sickness that has manifested itself in the Occupy encampments. Menino says: "They have a message that's not a clear message. The problem we have today is that we have different groups infiltrating the people who have the message. We have anarchists who are part of the group. We have homeless individuals who are part of the group."
Here a little philosophy might come in handy. According to Menino, the real Occupy encampment differs from the Platonic idea of an Occupy encampment. Anyone closely following the news should have figured out by now that this is an epistemological error of the first order.
Menino is disoriented. He is even getting a litte bit judgmental. He says the people at the Occupy Boston encampment need to think about leaving. "I just wish that the group that's demonstrating, not just here in Boston but nationally, will look to where the problems really are," he said. "The problems are down in Washington. And nobody's even addressing those issues of what Washington has done to our economy, to job training, to housing, to education. They're directing their anger at the wrong location." The observation is at too high a level of generality to be entirely helpful, but at last Menino has stumbled onto the truth.

Barack Obama's political feud with the Clintons went beyond just his primary campaign against Hillary in 2008. In his two autobiographies, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope, Obama made clear that he thought Clinton had been too moderate, had made too many concessions to conservatism in the 1990s. (By the way, I always thought Dreams from My Father should have been the title of JFK's campaign memoir. . .) As Charles Kesler pointed out in his Claremont Review of Books survey of Obama back in 2008:
But Clinton blew it, and the author gradually lets you know it. First, he regrets Clinton's "clumsy and transparent" gestures to the Reagan Democrats, and his "frighteningly coldhearted" use of other people (e.g., "the execution of a mentally retarded death row inmate" before a crucial primary). Then Obama notes sadly that Clinton's policies-"recognizably progressive if modest in their goals"-had commanded broad public support, but that the president had never been able, "despite a booming economy," to turn that support into a governing coalition. Finally, he gently accuses Clinton of the worst offense of all: strengthening the forces of conservatism. Due to his "personal lapses" and careless triangulations that ceded more and more ground to the Right, Clinton prepared the way for George W. Bush's victory in 2000. . .
[I]n his Acceptance Speech in Denver, the single biggest speech of the campaign, he laid at Bill Clinton's feet the oldest backhanded compliment in the books, thanking the former president "who last night made the case for change as only he can make it...." That's a disguised double insult: it reminds the discerning ear of Clinton's characteristic bloviation, and then of his political failings (when you see Clinton, you're reminded why the Democrats need Obama).
Well, now Clinton has out a new book that the Washington Post describes as having "some criticisms" of Obama's performance. "The 42nd president periodically surfaces with cheerful tips on how he managed the economy," says the Post. "Cheerful tips" is a nice touch. The Post continues:
The very existence of such a book by the former president - which Clinton says was inspired by the 2010 midterm losses - has produced some eye-rolling among senior Obama advisers and is certain to spur a new round of unwelcome comparisons between the 1990s and today.
I still say Bill and Hillary have a contingency plan for Hillary to reclaim the throne run for president next year, either directly against Obama, or if they can force him to step aside somehow.
A Halloween parable

(Scott Johnson)
Power Line reader RPW created a Halloween parable via the Xtranormal video platform and posted it on October 29, though it is titled "Just after Halloween, 2011." In the lit biz, I believe they call that prolepsis. In any event, the video will remain timely for the indefinite future.
The video comments in its own style on the Obama/OWS phenomenon. In a mere four minutes it makes a profound point that goes to the root of the idea of limited government. It warrants a look. Please check it out and share it.
Given that citizens of lesser means always outnumber the rich, the classic political philosophers held that government based on majority rule was untenable. They were of the view that it would lead to organized theft from the wealthy by the democratic masses. Aristotle observed in The Politics, for example: "If the majority distributes among itself the things of a minority, it is evident that it will destroy the city."
The Founders of the United States were deep students of politics and history, and they shared Aristotle's concern. Up through their time, history had shown all known democracies to be "incompatible with personal security or the rights of property." James Madison and his colleagues held that the "first object of government" was to protect the rights of property.
They understood the protection of property rights to be bound up with freedom itself. "In a word," Madison explained, "as a man is said to have a right to his property, he may be equally said to have a property in his rights...." The Founders thus incorporated numerous provisions of the Constitution and Bill of Rights to protect the property rights of citizens from the power of the government.
Whatever else might be said about him, President Obama operates on a different philosophy of government from that of the Founders. His credo is reflected in the proposition: "I think at some point you have made enough money." By contrast, the Founders thought that at some point the government had enough power. They created a system of government that was meant to establish protections against the likes of President Obama and the OWS crowd.
Slandering the Red States, Part I
Posted: 06 Nov 2011 08:01 PM PST
(John Hinderaker)
One of the ideas underlying our republic is that states have latitude to follow different policies. Therefore, we can see which policies work best, and they can be adopted by other states. It's a great theory, and no doubt it has worked at times in the past. Today, we have a stark contrast: blue states like California, New York and Illinois are careening toward bankruptcy as a result of the irresponsible policies imposed by their Democratic politicians, while red states like Texas, Utah and the Dakotas are showing the way to prosperity.
North Dakota is perhaps the most famous example; it has unemployment only because a few people are between jobs. There are many more jobs than people in North Dakota, so the state eagerly recruits workers from the rest of the country. But South Dakota is, arguably, an even better example of red state success, because it doesn't have any oil. Despite being oil-free, South Dakota's unemployment rate is around one-half the national rate. Its economy is booming. Why? When I talk with business leaders around the country who have facilities in South Dakota or who deal with businesses there, they invariably emphasize the quality of South Dakota's labor force. The phrase "work ethic" comes up again and again. And, of course, South Dakota has a friendly business climate. It hasn't elected a Democratic governor since 1974. And there isn't a union in sight.
In a sane world, the news media would disseminate information about which states are most successful and what policies they pursue, so that other states can emulate them. That is a pipe dream, of course: we all know that in the world we actually inhabit, our media have an entirely different agenda.
Which leads me to the three-part hit-piece that NPR recently did on South Dakota. NPR trumpeted its series as the fruit of a "yearlong investigation." It related to South Dakota's child protection system, and purported to be sensational. This is an excerpt from NPR's introduction to the series:
Nearly 700 Native American children in South Dakota are being removed from their homes every year, sometimes under questionable circumstances. An NPR News investigation has found that the state is largely failing to place them according to the law. The vast majority of native kids in foster care in South Dakota are in nonnative homes or group homes, according to an NPR analysis of state records. ...
The state receives thousands of dollars from the federal government for every child it takes from a family, and in some cases the state gets even more money if the child is Native American. The result is that South Dakota is now removing children at a rate higher than the vast majority of other states in the country.
Native American families feel the brunt of this. Their children make up less than 15 percent of the child population, yet they make up more than half of the children in foster care.
The gist of NPR's three-part extravaganza is that South Dakota's Department of Social Services makes money by "kidnapping"-that is the term NPR quotes repeatedly-Indian children, and putting them into foster care for little or no reason. The claim is absurd for a number of reasons, and NPR got its facts wrong over and over. But let's start with the basics.
One of the fundamental data points that NPR cites to build its case against South Dakota is the one quoted above: Native American children "make up less than 15 percent of the child population, yet they make up more than half of the children in foster care." This is what NPR calls "disproportionality." Yet, remarkably, NPR's web site contains more information on this very subject. It includes this map showing the "disproportionality index" of the 50 states:

But wait! Note that South Dakota isn't particularly green. What about those dark green states? Aren't they "kidnapping" even more Indian children? NPR's own map indicates that South Dakota is fifth in the nation in "disproportionality," with 3.9 times as many Indian children in foster care, pro rata, than the state's population. So one wonders: why is NPR focusing on South Dakota? What about the states that are ahead of South Dakota in "disproportionality"?
As it happens, the most disproportional state, by a wide margin, is Minnesota. Indians represent just 1.4% of the child population, but 15.7% of those in foster care, for a "disproportionality index" of 11.6, almost three times as high as South Dakota's! So why isn't NPR doing a yearlong investigation of Minnesota's "kidnapping" of Indian children? Silly question: Minnesota is a blue state. Of course, NPR could have defaulted to the number two state on its own "disproportionality index," at 6.9, a little less than twice South Dakota's number. But that wouldn't advance NPR's agenda: the number two state is blue Washington.
All of this makes sense to a liberal journalist. If you are going to undertake a "yearlong investigation" of a state agency, concluding with the sensational claim that financial corruption and "cultural bias" are causing minority children to be "kidnapped" at a disproportional rate, are you going to waste your time in states like Minnesota and Washington? Don't be silly-those states are run by Democrats, like you!
Over the coming days, I will dissect NPR's three-part hit piece in detail. It manifests a shocking lack of the most basic understanding of 1) the legal status of Indian tribes, and 2) the legal framework within which South Dakota's child protection agency functions. Beyond that, NPR's series is shot through with ignorant factual errors.
For the moment, however, let's just pause to consider why NPR thought it necessary to do a hit piece on South Dakota at all.

Let your lawmakers know: H.B. 1950 is the best way to responsibly regulate Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling in Pa.
Dear %%! set firstname [merge members_.FirstName] if {$firstname == ""} { return "Friend" } else { return $firstname }%%,
The state House could soon vote on a comprehensive bill (H.B. 1950) supported by Citizens to Protect PA Jobs that would responsibly regulate and grow the Marcellus Shale natural gas industry in Pennsylvania.
Marcellus Shale Critical to Job Creation According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, there are nearly 218,000 employees statewide in the Marcellus Shale and related industries. Of those, nearly 72,000 new hires have come about just since 2009. Overall, more than 70 percent of these new hires call Pennsylvania home!
It is because of natural gas drilling that Washington County was ranked No. 3 in the nation for job growth and that Williamsport was the seventh fastest growing city in the nation!
Contact your lawmaker and tell them H.B. 1950 will enable the industry to grow while providing environmental safeguards and new sources of revenue for the Commonwealth
House Bill 1950 Offers Uniform Regulation and Environmental Protection The bill would create a uniform regulatory standard that would pre-empt a hodge-podge of local ordinances, some of which are designed to halt drilling operations. Even if well-intended, differing rules make it very difficult for drillers operating in multiple jurisdictions to be in compliance and to effectively and efficiently operate.
House Bill 1950 also would provide money for impacted municipalities where drilling is occurring, the state's transportation infrastructure and for environmental/safety protection and enforcement.
House Bill 1950 Reflects Months of Work by Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission Citizens to Protect PA Jobs supports H.B. 1950 because it reflects the recommendations of the governor's Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission. This commission spent months holding public meetings, conducting research and listening to experts before developing its sweeping recommendations.
Please contact your state representative and ask them to support H.B. 1950 as the best way to oversee this important industry.
Sincerely,
Citizens to Protect PA Jobs

SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.

Herman Cain accuser bizarrely happy
You'd think someone revealing perhaps one of the worst & most traumatic events in their lifetime would be extremely nervous, emotional, and sad. But that's not what Herman Cain's latest accuser is -- she's happier than ever! Laughing, joking - even her attorney Gloria Allred was feeling chipper enough to drop one liners about Cain's 'stimulus package' during the presser. Is this the behavior of someone who is telling the truth? Glenn, Pat and Stu break down the audio on radio today. WATCH
Media chooses agenda over rape victims
The media should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for their outlandish hypocrisy when it comes to coverage of sexual scandals. Relentless coverage of Cain's problems (in one week more coverage of Cain than Wright, Rezko & Ayers during the ENTIRE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL RUN) and the coverage of the Penn State sex scandal would lead you to believe that the press cares about prominent sexual assault stories. But does the same media attention happen on Occupy Wall Street's rape problem? WATCH.
We Are Brothers: Do you believe that America and Israel are far more than just allies? If so then watch this flip-book featuring a few of the over 30,000 photos we took last summer. Together they tell a story of choosing courage over fear and light over darkness; a story we've captured in WE ARE BROTHERS - an oversized coffee table book unlike anything you've ever seen. WIND host Amy Jacobson on Cain scandal
Amy is a host on Glenn's Chicago affiliate WIND and was actually at the event (along with Glenn) that Herman Cain attended where a confrontation occurred between Cain and the accuser. Jacobsen claims to have actually seen that confrontation and has a different view of the accuser than most. The accuser was a 'friend' of the radio community according to Jacobson -- but is that enough to buy her story? Check out Glenn's interview with Amy HERE.
Brian Sack dealt another setback
Just when Brian Sack was excited to finally get his show, The B.S. of A., up and running after 27 long years of promotion and tense build up they were dealt some bad news. Their debut show on GBTV this Friday at 7pm ET would not get the normal light lead in programming afforded to most comedy shows -- instead, they will air immediately following a gut wrenching movie (The Hiding Place) about the Holocaust. Glenn interviews the *always entertaining Brian Sack on radio today. WATCH. *if 'always' = 'rarely'
