Quote:
"This was the object of the Declaration of Independence. Not to find out new principles, or new arguments, never before thought of, not merely to say things which had never been said before; but to place before mankind the common sense of the subject, in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent, and to justify ourselves in the independent stand we are compelled to take. Neither aiming at originality of principle or sentiment, nor yet copied from any particular and previous writing, it was intended to be an expression of the American mind, and to give to that expression the proper tone and spirit called for by the occasion."

USDA Predicts Surging Food Prices in Coming Year
The Blaze | by Christopher Santarelli | Posted on October 30, 2011 at 4:36pm

The USDA has released their projections for food price inflation in 2011/2012, showing troubling forecasts that may send you to the grocery store today, before paying higher prices tomorrow. The report shows that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all food increased 0.8 percent between 2009 and 2010, and is forecasted to increase 3.5 to 4.5 percent in 2011.
Bruce Krasting notes that the USDA's projections are especially troubling considering Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has said he wants to contain inflation (although excluding food and energy) at less than 2%. Food inflation is running at double his target. Writing in Business Insider, Krasting says the problem is even more serious than the USDA indicates and that global demand is set to push prices even higher as time goes on:

Saudi Royal Offers Bounty to Catch Israeli Soldier
Associated Press | Published October 30, 2011
A member of Saudi Arabia's royal family increased to $1 million a reward offered by a Saudi cleric to anyone who captures an Israeli soldier to swap him for Palestinian prisoners. Prince Khaled bin Talal, brother of billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, told the kingdom's al-Daleel TV station by telephone Saturday that he was raising a previous offer made by Sheik Awadh al-Qarani, a prominent Saudi cleric who promised $100,000 for capturing an Israeli soldier.

In our last newsletter, we looked at the growing threat of Islamic (Shariah) Law across Europe. In Part 2 of our special report on Shariah Law, Clare Lopez, Senior Fellow at the Clarion Fund examines the impact of Shariah Law in the United States. As you will read, Shariah Law is already infiltrating our children's schools, our college campuses, our banking system and even our military.
Islamic Law Conquering the U.S. by Clare M. Lopez
Previously, we looked at the spread of Islamic law - shariah - throughout Western civilization, with a focus on how Western Europe already is slipping under its influence. In this segment, the focus is on the United States (U.S.) and how shariah is establishing a presence in this country as well.
In the U.S., the Muslim Brotherhood leads the offensive to insinuate Islamic law into American society. Established in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, the Brotherhood (or Ikhwan) is committed, just like al-Qa'eda, to re-establishment of the caliphate and global imposition of Islamic law. Its Creed is: "Allah is our objective, the Qur'an is our law, the Prophet is our leader, Jihad is our way, and death in the way of Allah is our highest aspiration." Many of the Brotherhood's internal documents have been made public, as during the 2008 Holy Land Foundation HAMAS terror funding trial in Dallas, Texas. From these documents, we know that nearly every single major Muslim organization in the U.S. is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood or one of its derivatives. [MORE]
Did You Know... That Islamic Law Commands Death for Apostasy?
In Iran, a Christian pastor named Yusef Nadarkhani sits on death row, condemned to hang because he converted to Christianity from Islam. From around the world, indignation and pleas for clemency pour in. The Iranian regime is excoriated for its barbarism. And indeed, the Iranian legal code is barbaric.
It is also firmly grounded in Islamic law, known as shariah. Shariah commands that any Muslim male who is mature and sane and willingly apostatizes from Islam must be executed. The Islamic scholars reached a consensus (ijma) on this point when shariah was immutably codified in the early centuries after the death of the Muslim prophet Muhammad. [MORE]

Indonesian Shariah Police: "We See Ourselves as Educators'
In Aceh Province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, Shariah police see themselves as "educators" rather than draconian disciplinarians who publicly cane adulterers and humiliate women who are deemed to be immodestly dressed. Watch this clip by Voice of America reporter, Brian Padden as he investigates Shariah Law in Indonesia.

I urge you to stand with me and co-sponsor my new legislation, "American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts." This legislation protects the individual constitutional rights of the people of Pennsylvania from the incursion of foreign laws, in cases in which the application of a foreign law or foreign legal doctrine would violate someone's constitutional rights. Go here to see the full document . . .: Our constitutional rights and founding principles of freedom should not be abridged by any offshore entity, including and especially those who would promote Sharia law. Once before on June 19, we asked that you contact your elected representatives and urge them to co-sponsor a bill to prohibit foreign law from consideration in any and all cases in our state courts. You were very responsive and there are now 21 co-sponsors on the bill! Listed below are the co-sponsors to date. if your rep is not on the list, kindly contact him/her even if it's the second time, by taking the 3 action steps below. The more co-sponsors the bill has the more likely it is that the legislators will vote affirmatively to pass it into law. It is significant what Rep. Swanger's office said when sending us the list of co-sponsors : "I feel a lot of them co-sponsored because of the message that was sent out by you to contact the Reps about this legislation. A lot of district offices & Harrisburg offices called or e-mailed right after that was sent out." Here's the list: Kerry Benninghoff Scott Boyd Dom Costa Tom Creighton George Dunbar Frank Farry Neal Goodman Seth Grove Kate Harper Dick Hess Scott Hutchinson Rob Kauffman Daryl Metcalfe (asked to be listed as a 2nd) Carl Metzgar Scott Perry (asked to be listed 3rd) Rick Saccone Stan Saylor Curt Schroder Jerry Stern Dick Stevenson Will Tallman Here are the action steps: 1. read the attached letter from Rep. Swanger, which went out in early June to all PA House members 2. visit, or call, your representative and ask him/her to call Rep. Swanger's secretary, Lily Horst, 717-787-2686, or email her at lhorst@pahousegop.com to be added to the list of the bill's cosponsors 3. timing: please move quickly, as they may be getting to the next step (obtaining a bill number). Make contact, and gain their commitment, by August 1. Having many co-sponsors on a bill, as you know, will help build momentum in the right direction quickly. Thank you for your efforts. Signed, your Legislative Focus Group American and Pennsylvania Laws for Pennsylvania Courts
Sincerely, Sarah Hart Chapter Leader, ACT! Pittsburgh ACT! for America Chapter |

PHONE LIST AND TALKING POINTS - HB 934 VOTER ID
PASSED BY THE HOUSE, STUCK IN THE SENATE!!
IT IS SITTING IN THE STATE GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE
WE HAVE A REPUBLICAN SENATE, A REPUBLICAN HOUSE, AND A REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR BUT NOTHING MUCH IS GETTING DONE. WHY??
VOTER ID WILL ASSURE THAT YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT AND HELP ELIMINATE MULTIPLE VOTES, DEAD PEOPLE VOTING, AND OTHER ILLEGAL VOTING. 14 OTHER STATES HAVE PHOTO VOTER ID AND 14 STATES HAVE VOTER ID (NO PHOTO). WE KNOW THAT IN BOTH GEORGIA AND ALABAMA VOTER PARTICIPATION INCREASED SINCE PHOTO VOTER ID PASSED. WE ARE ONE OF THE ONLY DEMOCRACIES IN THE WORLD WITH NO UNIFORMLY REQUIRED VOTER ID. THE UNIONS DO NOT WANT IT AND THE ACLU DOES NOT WANT IT. YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHY WOULD ANYONE NOT WANT VOTER ID?
EVERY ILLEGAL VOTE STEALS THE VOTE OF A LEGITIMATE VOTER.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE ALL CALL THESE KEY SENATORS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK EVERY WEEK. PUT THE PRESSURE ON TO PASS IT!!

The General Wayne Tea Party
Serving portions of Montgomery, Chester and Berks County
NEWS RELEASE
The Greatest Scam in American History?
Public Invited to Learn About the Financial Crash and Whodunit on November 1st
King of Prussia, PA (October 25, 2011): It was caused by corrupt legislators that our fellow citizens put in office. It was caused by their partners, the large, immoral financial institutions who were given an open door to wealth. It was caused by regulators who were prevented from regulating.
Tens of millions were made by those in charge; tens of thousands donated to complicit politicians, Hundreds of billions were lost by ordinary Americans. Members of both political parties were involved. All have escaped any consequences.
The November 1st meeting of The General Wayne Tea Party begins to get to the bottom of the crash. Phil Duffy has performed an exhaustive review based on recently published sources, and will present his findings. He names names, explains who did what, and when. The scope of the corruption is almost overpowering, and Phil lays it all out in gory detail. And he'll provide a handout, a single page listing the shameful dealing and double dealing that has nearly brought our country to its knees.
Phil Duffy is a graduate of Rutgers University and majored in International Business and Economics at NYU's Graduate School of Business. After service in the U.S. Army, Duffy spent much of his career in marketing, information systems and management consulting, with such firms as GE, McDonnell-Douglas and Coopers & Lyabrand. While with GE, he analyzed health care legislation, regulation and systems, including the UK's National Health Service.
A resident of West Chester, he currently teaches The Constitution and Bill of Rights for Widener University's lifelong Learning Institute and will teach a course on economics (Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?) for this program in the spring of 2012.
This meeting will be held on November 1st at the Bear Rock Café, 192 W. DeKalb Pike (Route 202), King of Prussia, PA. Meeting begins promptly at 6:00 P.M. and concludes at 8:15 P.M.
The meeting is free, is open to the public, and the press is invited

The Kitchen Table Patriots
are proud to join with
The Philadelphia Loyal Opposition
and Eagle Forum in support of
Al Schmidt (Only) for City Commissioner on Nov. 8th!

October 2011
Dear Philadelphia Eagle,
You live in a spot where there will be an election this year on Tuesday, November 8 that could affect the national election next year in a big way. You will have the opportunity to vote in a special election that will have implications on every other office in the United States - from your local neighborhood to the White House.
This is the election for Philadelphia City Commissioner. Those are the officials who are in charge of running fair and honest elections in Philadelphia. You and I know that our candidates cannot win unless we have honest elections. For years, we've heard the same complaints about unfair elections, politicking inside the polls, voter intimidation, poll watchers denied access, and much more.
I urge you to vote for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner on Tuesday, November 8 because we know we can count on him to fight for fair and honest elections. Philadelphia has three Commissioners, but no more than two can belong to the same political party. That means two Democrats and one Republican will be elected.
I urge you to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) - even though your ballot instructions will probably say "vote for two." You are absolutely NOT required to "vote for two" - you have a right to vote for only one, and that is the only way to assure that Al Schmidt will be elected. Also, do NOT vote a straight Republican ticket because that will automatically cast your ballot for both Republican candidates, only one of whom can win. If you have any questions, call PA Eagle Forum President Ned Pfeifer, 412-973-0502.
Al Schmidt is eminently qualified to be a Philadelphia City Commissioner. He is a former Senior Analyst for the non-partisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) - the investigative arm of Congress. There, he conducted oversight of government agencies, programs, and policies to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement anywhere that federal taxpayer dollars are spent. After leaving GAO, Al ran for City Controller and earned a reputation as an outspoken advocate for good government.
Al Schmidt has the skills and commitment to clean up the City Commissioner's Office and give us honest elections in Philadelphia. This can be decisive in how Pennsylvania will go in the important 2012 elections, and maybe even how the U.S. will go.
I urge you to vote on Tuesday, November 8 for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner - and vote ONLY for Al Schmidt for City Commissioner. Press #119. This could be more important than any vote you cast next year.
Faithfully,
Phyllis Schlafly
P.S. Please tell ten of your friends to be sure to vote ONLY for Al Schmidt (Press #119) on Tuesday, November 8. This is a crucial election for Philadelphia, for Pennsylvania, and for America. |

I am reaching out to you in hopes of gaining your support. I have taken the liberty of attaching a PDF recounting a compelling story which I contributed to with the team at the Chester County Hero Fund (501c3).
For the last year, I have been training for the Marine Corps Marathon, which I will run on October the 30th (just shy of my 68th--birthday) in D.C.
I'm running to raise money to build an accessible home for Jay Raffetto a wounded Marine. Jay graduated from Conestoga H.S. with my daughter Jennifer in 2000. I always gave him positive encouragement through his parents about the virtues of military service. Jay became a medic with special operations (Force Recon, USMC) and unfortunately, last August he became a triple amputee-while on patrol in Afghanistan.
I'm asking for a donation to support his cause and I'm asking consideration for a Corporate Sponsorship as well---if possible. I think this is a compelling cause.
Please see attached PDF with instructions on the bottom of the sheet.
100% of your donation will go Jay and his wife Emily, Thanks in advance for your support of Jay, his family and our men and women in the Military.
Also please feel free to use this email and PDF to send to others you Feel might want to support this effort.
P.S. I know I can count on your help!

Welcome to Washington's Headquarters at the Moland House
1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, PA 18974
In the early evening of 10 August 1777, eleven thousand Continental and militia soldiers are marching up York Road towards the Cross Roads with Bristol Road [Hartsville, PA] on their way to Coryell's Ferry [New Hope, PA] to camp four miles across the Delaware River. General George Washington receives a dispatch from John Hancock, President of the Second Continental Congress, placing the 260-vessel British fleet, hauling 17,000 troops under General William Howe, fifty miles south of the Delaware Capes [May & Henelopen] on 7 August. Unsure and wary of Howe's intentions, Washington immediately halts his force to encamp around the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek in Warwick Township, Bucks County. Knowing the area and having ridden through only ten days earlier, he selects the substantial stone dwelling of Widow Moland as his Head Quarters on the farm north of the bridge.

Thomas Jefferson: "Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers....a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy."
But what IS nullification? How does it happen and work? Since September 2010, the Tenth Amendment Center has been hosting a national tour to educate and activate people on this topic. People are learning the constitutional basis, when it's been used in history, and how it is happening around the country and how YOU can stop DC right in your own state.

Help Prevent Voter Fraud ! !
Judical Watch is Demanding Answers Earlier this month, Judicial Watch, a government/judicial watchdog group based out of Washington, DC, hosted a Voter Fraud panel discussion featuring John Fund, Christian Adams, and King Street/True the Vote leader Catherine Engelbrecht. Here's video from a portion of the event:
 | "The Voter Fraud Threat to Free and Fair Elections" - Part 2 |
But wait, there's more! The really exciting thing Judicial Watch is doing happened just last week when they filed a FOIA lawsuit against the DOJ to obtain records of communications between the Department of Justice and Project Vote Official/former ACORN attorney Estelle Rogers. You can read more about it here. Bottom line..."Judicial Watch is convinced that Project Vote's activities remain a threat to the integrity of our elections. The fact that Project Vote is bullying states to attack election security reforms in order to register Obama's 'Food Stamp Army' comes as no surprise. But it appears that the Obama Justice Department is using the same playbook as Project Vote - to the detriment of clean elections. The American people deserve to know if the nation's highest law enforcement agency has become nothing more than a political tool to help this scandalous ACORN-front group re-elect Barack Obama. Again, this Justice Department can't seem to be bothered to comply with basic open records FOIA law," stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
Be assured, we will be closely watching for any new developments in this case....but in the meantime, if you haven't already volunteered to help uphold free and fair elections by working at the polls WE NEED YOU! There is a critical shortage of polling place workers. We wonder why Project Vote and ACORN get away with their flagrant abuses of our system...it's because we as citizens are allowing it to happen. WE MUST ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF OUR ELECTIONS. One way you can engage is by volunteering to work as a poll watcher on Election Day. Please, it is going to take all of us to uphold the integrity of our elections in the days ahead. Get involved now.
We need TTV volunteers for poll watching - Free and fair elections do not happen without citizen involvement. Want to stand up and take action? True the Vote will provide training and support - you just need to take the first step. For more information email info@truethevote.org or go HERE to sign up now! |

2012 Presidential Candidate Selector or Obama, His Allies & Critics Matching Quiz
Politicians have already indicated their 2012 presidential aspirations. This matching quiz includes President Obama, top members of his administration, Obama's most vocal critics (Boehner, Cantor, etc.) and likely White House prospects (Palin, Pawlenty, Jindal, etc.). You may select a position for every issue, or just select issues important to you. The political figures' positions are based upon their voting records, special interest group ratings and their statements in the public record. In cases where there is no known public record or statement, these politicos are not given a score on that issue. We add candidates, revise their views and include new issues as they become known or change. Check back often for updates.

RedState Morning Briefing
For October 31, 2011
1. Mitt Romney: The Magically Malleable Man of Mystery
Mitt Romney is probably thanking his lucky stars the Politico decided to drop a Sunday night hit piece on Herman Cain alleging Cain sexually harassed at least two women. Had it not happened last night, this morning the political world would be talking about George Will's stinging take down of Mitt Romney and conservatives who support him coupled with Chris Wallace's observation that Mitt Romney won't come on the Sunday shows to be asked tough questions.
I'll address the Cain issue later today, but I don't want to ignore the Mitt Romney issue just yet.
Back after the 2008 campaign ended and John McCain was winding down his campaign, a McCain staffer sent me the 200 pages of opposition research the campaign had compiled on Mitt Romney. The staffer told me I might find it useful by 2012. Between computer changes, email changes, etc. I lost it.
Late this spring, another former McCain campaign affiliated person sent me the same document. Ten pages in that document sum up why conservatives should think long and hard before embracing MItt Romney. And once they've thought long and hard about it, they should think some more.
These are ten pages that explain completely why so many conservatives do not and cannot trust Mitt Romney.
2. The Oppo Dump on Herman Cain Begins in Earnest
Hours after the Politico's Roger Simon accused the GOP of being racist, the Politico begins a sincere effort to destroy the black guy running to be the GOP's Presidential nominee. The opposition dump on Herman Cain has begun in earnest. Before getting into the details, let's pay attention to what this means.
It means for certain that Herman Cain's lead in the polling is real - very, very real. People are taking him seriously. Mr. Cain is about to spend a week in Washington answering questions and giving speeches. Someone wanted to make sure he has a miserable week.
The allegations are pretty straight forward. At least two women complained of sexual harassment by Herman Cain when he ran the National Restaurant Association. How did this play out? Well, the Politico says it learned about the allegations and then began putting together a roster of board members, etc. Someone tipped them off obviously.
The Politico also says it was not widely known, even on the board. It also says "The first woman was identified to POLITICO by a former association board member and her identity was confirmed by two additional sources." The board member learned about it all in 1999 during an event in Chicago.
The hunt will now be on for who that board member is, among others. Even now I'm sure there are people cross referencing National Restaurant Association board members from 1999 with other campaigns.
But who ratted out the information is far less consequential than if it was true. We're going to see a few things happen I suspect.
3. UFCW Bosses Busted For Racketeering, Extortion, Money Laundering & More...
A powerful United Food & Commercial Workers local union (348s) in New York was closed for business on Thursday as police arrested three family members who run the union local.
4. The CBO Has Been Occupied by OWS's Intellectual Inequality
One fundamental liberal desideratum is the achievement of equal results at the expense of equal opportunity. Conservatives believe in implementing policies that protect our God-given rights, which provide every human being with an equal opportunity to succeed. Liberals reject policies that foster unfettered equal opportunity because they invariably produce unequal results, being that human beings have different talents, capabilities, work ethic, and luck. On Tuesday, the CBO decided to throw in with the left-wing affinity for highlighting income inequality and advocacy for equal outcomes - outcomes that would be dictated by our venerable federal government.
While the focus on income inequality in itself is a dubious endeavor for the CBO, their conclusions are downright scandalous. Their most outlandish conclusion was that income inequality has increased between 1979 and 2007 due to a decrease in "government transfers" and tax cuts for the rich.
|

Agree that JFK was one of our greatest presidents.
Suggest this was because he spent less than one term in office, so he never had time to meddle and "improve" things, as liberals are wont to do.
Pick a fight with a liberal on:
IMPERIALISM. Liberals hate imperialism because in their mind it's all about the big bad West holding its big bad sway over the rest of the world. Liberals are much more comfortable with Western retreat and "multiculturalism" than with Western dominance and triumphalism. But America, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Australia did pretty well out of imperialism, didn't they, inheriting the ideas of English liberty and law, free market economics, representative government, the English language, etc.? And if you think some people wouldn't welcome a return of imperialism, you might take a trip to Zimbabwe and see what the starving folks there have to say.

Digest
Friday, October 28, 2011

Barack Obama wants everyone to know that he's the president, and by golly he's getting impatient. "We can't wait for an increasingly dysfunctional Congress to do its job," he told a Las Vegas crowd Monday. "I've told my administration to keep looking every single day for actions we can take without Congress."
Obama, formerly a "senior lecturer" in constitutional law, apparently thinks it's fine to thumb his nose at the separation of powers and simply enact legislation by executive fiat, on the grounds that "we can't wait." No more "yes, we can," which is so 2008. Yet this is the same old arrested development that is endemic on the Left.
By Debra Saunders ˇ Sunday, October 30, 2011
One of the great things about America, President Barack Obama told students at the University of Colorado, is that no matter how humble your roots, you still have a shot at a great education. He also told students that his goal is to "make college more affordable." Alas, the president's prescription for making higher education affordable seems likely to yield the same results as his plan for curbing health care costs; that is, it is likely to drive prices higher than inflation.
The nation's next fiscal nightmare may well be a higher-education bubble.
By Peggy Noonan ˇ Saturday, October 29, 2011
People are increasingly fearing the divisions within, even the potential coming apart of, our country. Rich/poor, black/white, young/old, red/blue: The things that divide us are not new, yet there's a sense now that the glue that held us together for more than two centuries has thinned and cracked with age. That it was allowed to thin and crack, that the modern era wore it out.

Jesus' name ruled 'unconstitutional' |
A board of county commissioners in North Carolina is asking the Supreme Court for help: Its members don't believe they should have to forbid volunteers from mentioning the name of Jesus in prayers offered before their meetings.
But the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State are standing by their victory in a U.S. circuit court decision that states even "a solitary reference to Jesus Christ" in invocations before the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners' meetings could do "violence to the pluralistic and inclusive values that are a defining feature of American public life." |

ACRU Argues for Rule of Law, Financial Accountability in Stock Market Case
The American Civil Rights Union filed a brief on Wednesday supporting a complaint that the National Association of Securities Dealers should be held accountable for misleading members as to a proxy vote over a change in bylaws.
"NASD's claim of immunity highlights the threat posed by Self Regulating Organizations (SROs) operating outside laws designed to protect investors," said ACRU General Counsel Peter Ferrara, who wrote the brief.

Obama's Regulatory Excess and Abuse
This column by ACRU General Counsel and Senior Fellow for the Carleson Center for Public Policy (CCPP) Peter Ferrara was published October 26, 2011 on The American Spectator website.
The critique of Obamanomics has focused primarily on the runaway spending, taxes, deficits and debt, and the throwback monetary policies at the Fed. But Phil Kerpen, Vice-President for Policy at Americans for Prosperity, has now fully complemented that with a thorough exposé of Obama's regulatory excess and abuse in his just published new book, Democracy Denied: How Obama Is Ignoring You and Bypassing Congress to Radically Transform America -- and How to Stop Him.
The theme is "democracy denied" because after the blowout Republican landslide of 2010 Obama refused to listen to the people and did not even consider changing course from the most left-wing policies of any President in U.S. history. Instead, he just pivoted to bypassing the Congress the people elected and maximizing instead the vast regulatory powers of the Executive Branch.
For example, since cap and trade legislation obviously no longer had any prayer of getting through Congress (even the overwhelmingly Democrat Congress of 2009-2010 wouldn't pass it), Obama said after the election, "Cap and trade was just one way of skinning the cat; it was not the only way. It was a means, not an end." I took that as a personal threat. You should too.

Profits Are for People
This column by ACRU Policy Board Member and Professor of Economics Dr. Walter E. Williams was published October 26, 2011 on Townhall.com.
The Occupy Wall Street demonstrators are demanding "people before profits" - as if profit motivation were the source of mankind's troubles - when it's often the absence of profit motivation that's the true villain.
First, let's get both the definition and magnitude of profits out of the way. Profits represent the residual claim earned by entrepreneurs. They're what are left after other production costs - such as wages, rent and interest - have been paid. Profits are the payment for risk taking, innovation and decision-making. As such, they are a cost of business just as are wages, rent and interest. If those payments are not made, labor, land and capital will not offer their services. Similarly, if profit is not paid, entrepreneurs won't offer theirs. Historically, corporate profits range between 5 and 8 cents of each dollar, and wages range between 50 and 60 cents of each dollar.
Far more important than simple statistics about the magnitude of profits is the role played by profits, namely that of forcing producers to cater to the wants and desires of the common man. When's the last time we've heard widespread complaints about our clothing stores, supermarkets, computer stores or appliance stores? We are far likelier to hear people complaining about services they receive from the post office, motor vehicle and police departments, boards of education and other government agencies. The fundamental difference between the areas of general satisfaction and dissatisfaction is the pursuit of profits is present in one and not the other.

Updated list of "OCCUPY" outrages, violence and arrests
- biggovernment. com 10/29/11
by John Nolte
***Updated 10/29/2011
Here are 11 more incidents sent to me by readers for a total of 92. On top of everything else, imagine the drain all this lawlessness has on law enforcement resources. My list doesn't even include the collateral damage. Thanks to Occupy Wall Street's drain on police personnel, shootings increased 154% in New York alone. What is it in Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Oakland, and Cleveland?
Just last week Vice President Joe Biden was all freaked out about the possibility of crime rates increasing if Congress didn't pass Obama's Son of Stimulus. Well, that premise was based on a lie, but the same White House trying to sell that bill of bull isn't at all concerned with the very real increase in crime caused by the Occupiers they encourage.
The list is in no particular order. Like the Occupiers themselves, it's unruly, disorganized, messy and not focused solely on the nation's media centers. The movement is spreading across America and bringing with it their outrageous and appalling behavior.
Recently, President Obama said that the Occupiers are just like the Tea Party.
That's a lie.

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Hipsters, Hippies, Homeless and Hopeless
Posted: 28 Oct 2011 02:12 PM PDT
It's been a while since we've done one of these, but before we get into it, I would just like to mention that Glenn Beck will be at the Freedom Center's Restoration Weekend. As will a far humbler figure, me.
THE HIPPIE, HIPSTER, HOMELESS OCCUPATION CONTINUES
You can't smell Zuccoti Park from uptown, but if you're unlucky enough you can spot the occupiers making their way there. The Hipsters/Hippies/Homeless ratio has made for very poor hygiene and a fantastic opportunity for the rats to make a comeback in Lower Manhattan.
The weather is turning chilly. This morning the temperature was in the 40's and even though tents have been allowed, the hippies and hipsters are about to start discovering how the other third lives. The ones who actually are hopeless.
Hipsters may live in walk ups, but they like to have the heat on and there's a reason hippies usually prefer warmer weather and many of the city's guests from the other side of the coast are about to discover how quickly temperatures here can change and how uncomfortable even mild Northeastern weather can be when you're used to warm air.
Lower Manhattan is a giant heatsink of skyscrapers owned by corporations, and human and automobile traffic from employees of people doing business there. That heatsink is the only thing keeping the three H's from experiencing the weather that they would encounter if they headed over to Long Island.
The irony that the companies and cars they hate so much are keeping the weather warm enough so that they can lounge around in their piles of garbage without freezing would be lost on them. All those winds coming off the water broken by the massive collection of downtown skyscrapers, the sheer mass of people, cars and carbon that lets them pose as revolutionary activists without their teeth chattering are lost on them too.
The left has organized and funded Occupy Wall Street, but it's doing a poor job of controlling it. Its activist chains of command don't flow all that smoothly with the increasing number of homeless people who see it as another encampment and many of the hippies who can't focus long enough to follow the rules.
The problem with OWS is that it attracts people who want to do their own thing without realizing that they're walking into someone else's campaign. The Great Drum Circle Debate which pits the professional activists who understand that getting into fights with local residents will take them down against the hippies who just don't care. Or the Hygiene Hellish standoff with the homeless.
OWS' "innovative" idea of making the protest into a permanent round the clock entity was timed to boost the Obama campaign, but the weather is going to have something else to say about it.
It's also worth noting that while Bloomberg has pussyfooted around OWS, the minority mayors of black cities have taken them on. Mayor Kasim Reed in Atlanta and Mayor Jean Quan in Oakland have been much more forceful about dealing with the OWS trash, while Bloomberg and Menino, white, Jewish and Italian, have pandered to them.
Next up appears to be Mayor Villaraigosa in LA.
SHUT UP AND KEEP QUIET
We begin the roundup with the ADL and AJC's proposed "pact of silence" on Israel in the guise of the usual "don't make Israel into a partisan issue." The ADL/AJC's "National Pledge for Unity on Israel" is actually a call for silence by the Jewish community in an election year. I don't recall any other community being told that it must shut up and not make their issue into a wedge issue.
The Foxman-Harris contention that Israel has bipartisan support is untrue, as Foxman himself knows. While there isn't as great a gap between the two parties as many would like to think, the gap is very real and it is there. Furthermore an administration that has brought an ugliness to those ties as part of a program of disastrous pandering to Islamists in the Middle East should absolutely be held accountable for its shameful conduct.
Do Foxman-Harris really believe that remaining silent is a good strategy? If so why then do the ADL and AJC fill my inbox with bulletins almost every other day warning that they are all that stands between us and the deep blue sea? Their silence is a strategy and it favors only one side.
We have an adversarial political system that benefits from competition. That means every issue is a wedge issue. If it weren't that way, then we wouldn't need issue based elections at all.
Do Republicans and Democrats disagree on Israel? Absolutely. Should that be treated as some dirty little secret? I don't see why. The "National Pledge for Unity on Israel" is nothing more than "Sha Shtil" politics dressed up in colorful bunting and backed by a marching band. The FDR administration is a tombstone memorializing "Sha Shtil" politics. So is the situation in the Jewish community in France.
DEBATING THE DEBATES
There's not much you can say about the debates except that they have been insubstantial exchanges of talking points that have shown most of the candidates at their worst.
Perry has taken the most damage from the debates and his talk of pulling out is reasonable enough, but at the same time his clumsy performance is an image that most people are not going to get out of their heads. And whoever does win the nomination is still going to have to debate Obama.
The debates have teetered between candidates being unsure about attacking each other and then doing nothing but attacking each other. I doubt undecided voters came out of the Romney-Perry exchanges with much affection for either of the two men who have done a great job of providing video that Democratic strategists are feverishly reviewing for weak points on their laptops.
Cain and Gingrich are rising as a reaction to the lack of ideas and the careerist acrimony on stage. Romney and Perry don't come off as two men angry at each other because they both believe in these ideas, but as two men who want the same job and will strangle each other to get it. That's politics but it's also deflating to anyone who thinks in terms of public service.
But Cain and Gingrich have their own problems. Cain is electable on personality and on beliefs, but weak on ideas. Gingrich is electable on ideas, but not on personality. If you somehow blended the two men and combined Cain's breezy manner and Gingrich's wonkiness, you might come out with a perfect candidate. But that's not happening either.
Cain's casual campaign is not about winning. Cain doesn't expect the nomination, he expects to be Romney's VP and his odds are excellent. Gingrich is also aiming for the VP spot, ready to give heft and credibility to whoever the nominee will be.
Cain and Gingrich would be better presidents than Romney and Perry, but they're not likely to get that chance and even if they did, their odds of beating Obama and his praetorian press bodyguard aren't too good either.
But the bigger game at this point may not be the White House, but getting as many principled conservatives into congress as possible. It's a safe assumption that the Republican nominee will not be a principled conservative. The only thing left to do is checkmate him with principled conservatives.
When Bush tried to run the immigration numbers, opposition from congressional Republicans stopped him. If we do it right, Perry will be frozen the same way. And Romney can be checkmated as well. All the complaints about Republican extremism are a good thing. They show the party core is gaining strength and becoming a revolutionary party again. And while it will not be a Tea Party White House, it can be a Tea Party Congress.
But if the race continues to degenerate into the kind of pathetic displays we saw at the last debate, then the competition will be over who will lose to Obama.
THE ROUNDUP
COME ONE, COME MUSLIM MEN
A Muslim group in Denmark has launched a campaign to turn parts of Copenhagen and other Danish cities into "Sharia Law Zones" that would function as autonomous enclaves ruled by Islamic law.
The Danish Islamist group Kaldet til Islam (Call to Islam) says the Tingbjerg suburb of Copenhagen will be the first part of Denmark to be subject to Sharia law, followed by the Nřrrebro district of the capital and then other parts of the country, the center-right Jyllands-Posten newspaper reported on October 17.
500 years ago this would have been a matter of straight up conquest, but today the invaders aren't coming on longboats, they're arriving on planes and benefiting from social services.
BUT SHE EXPLAINED
After Deborah Orr at the Guardian penned a bizarre bigoted column accusing Jews of racist arrogance for trading a 1000 terrorists for an Israeli POW, she offered an even more ridiculous explanation.
Last week, I upset a lot of people by suggesting Zionists saw themselves as "chosen". My words were badly chosen and poorly used, and I'm sorry for it. But accusations of antisemitism have also been intemperate.
Zionism has nothing to do with being the "Chosen People", Judaism does.
Orr is lying through her teeth and she's doing it in a way remarkably similar to that done by Muslim spokesmen who use classical Anti-Semitic terminology and then explain that they mean Zionists not Jews.
Append the usual gibberish about Israel's creation harming the Pallies and we're off to the races.
Then Deborah Orr doubles back perversely to claim that, "it would be absurd to believe that Jewish people are any more or less capable of making geo-political miscalculations than anybody else:"
Like most Muslim spokesmen, Orr tries to pretend that she means Zionists not Jews, and then turns around and says Jews anyway.
The Guardian has become a kind of half-assed PC Der Sturmer, trading in Anti-Semitism and then making up the weakest excuse that it can to pretend that it didn't say what it obviously did.
NAKED APES OF WALL STREET
Edward Cline offers his thoughts on OWS at Rule of Reason
Picture a protester, fully dressed, armed with his cell phone, iPod, perhaps with a poncho rolled up in his backpack along with toiletries and other necessities.
Take away his cap - his shirt and tee-shirt - his watch - his jacket - his backpack and all is contents - his sweater or sweatshirt - his cell phone - his camera - any other gizmo he has become dependent on to communicate with his pals or to see what else is happening on Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and other social sites - his wallet - his pants - his underwear - his socks - his shoes - his shaving instruments - his deodorant (if any) - his hair cut (if he has had one) - his pill box, nasal spray, inhaler, chap stick, or whatever else enables him to breathe without difficulty - his childhood inoculations - his cigarettes - his lighter - his plastic packet of whatever else he may smoke - his glasses or contacts - his tent - his sleeping bag.
Take away his cardboard sign and the length or wood or plastic it may be affixed to, if it is affixed to anything. Take away the marker or pen or spray that printed the words on it.
No Starbucks. No Ben & Jerry's ice cream. No Zuccotti Park-cooked pasta and stir-fried veggies. Maybe cockroaches. Or silverfish. Or dead rats. But nothing prepared in defiance of Mother Earth. No Poland Spring water. No plastic water bottles at all.
And what have you? You have a naked ape. A protester against corporate greed, an advocate of expropriating wealth and the means of production.

The State Department has bought more than $70,000 worth of books authored by President Obama.
Now if the State Department starts buying them and returning them, it can really go up the bestseller lists. Wouldn't surprise me too much if that was happening.

Should America Carry the U.N.?
The 39-story United Nations headquarters stands on the banks of the East River in Manhattan. But now the U.N. is planning the construction of a new building next door, with a price tag pegged at $400 million -- and it could soar even higher. And since U.S. taxpayers pay 22 percent of the U.N. budget, the costs for that new building will come right out of your pocket, leading to a very serious question: Just how far should the United States go in supporting the U.N. and international organizations like it?

Help Rand Paul Stop the EPA Train Wreck
The EPA's Air Transport Rule, the Cross State Air Pollution Rule, is one of the most expensive regulations in the entire EPA Train Wreck. Using the Congressional Review Act, Sen. Paul has introduced S.J. Res. 27, a resolution of disapproval that would allow Congress to overturn the costly Air Transport Rule. Thanks to his resolution, elected officials have an opportunity to rein in unelected regulators intent on imposing billions of dollars' worth of new costs on the economy, threatening the economic recovery and destroying jobs. Recently-released campaign finance reports show that public sector unions in Ohio and across the country have spared no expense in their assault against SB5 (Ballot Issue 2), Governor Kasich's collective bargaining and pension reform law. Unfortunately, the tens of millions of dollars pouring into this November's election pale in comparison to the spiraling deficits and massive tax hikes facing Ohioans if Issue 2 fails. For instance, according to the Ohio Department of Education's 2015 budget projections, school districts across the state are facing deficits adding up to hundreds of millions of dollars per county based on current cost and revenue trends. That fact alone should get voters' attention. But when further broken down to the individual level, the numbers show that Ohio residents literally can't afford not to vote YES on Issue 2. Obama Considers Injecting U.S. Children with Anthrax By Ben Johnson |
The Obama administration is considering injecting American children with an anthrax vaccine in an unprecedented scientific experiment that bioethicists say will unnecessarily endanger the youngsters' lives and health. The National Biodefense Safety Board (NBSB), will vote today about whether the pediatric vaccinations should go forward. A smaller working group comprised of a whopping eight members endorsed the vaccinations in September...
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported in June 2007 that "some servicemembers who received the anthrax and smallpox vaccines" experienced "severe reactions such as".... |

Obama's Freedom of Unformation Act By Doug Book |
Just prior to taking office, Barack Hussein Obama's transition team promised the incoming administration would create "a new level of transparency, accountability and participation for American citizens."
Of course, that was before the Fast and Furious debacle claimed several hundred lives and exposed the perjury of an Attorney General.
It was before the Obama Department of Energy bestowed half-a-billion dollars on a bankrupt Solyndra Corporation, whose principle investor happened to be an Obama campaign money-bundler...
Unable to duck, dodge, and hide from the citizen journalists who make up the blogosphere, and even fighting a losing battle against a select few members of the Regime-owned legacy media, the Department of Justice has decided it is time to make it legal for the government to tell outright lies to the American public.... |

Napolitano Opens the Borders, Shuts Down the Truth By Joe Guzzardi |
The House Judiciary Committee recently completed hearings that focused on President Barack Obama's deferred action plan to grant amnesty to 300,000 aliens previously designated for removal. The aliens, in addition to getting a free pass back into the American mainstream will receive work permits. Border security was also on Chairman Lamar Smith's agenda.
As she has done for months, Secretary Napolitano insisted that during the last two years.... |

Principles of Plenty By Rep. Tom McClintock, R-CA |
We are in the third year of policies predicated on the assumption that if government just injects enough money into the economy, it can jump start consumer spending and therefore, economic growth.
For three years, this administration has squandered more than a trillion dollars of the nation's wealth in pursuit of this assumption.
In so doing, it has incurred a debt greater than that acquired by this nation from the first day of the George Washington administration to the last day of the George H.W. Bush administration.
It has cost our nation its triple-A credit rating and it now threatens to bankrupt our country.... |

Steven Den Beste comments on Steve Hayward's population bomb post:
Isn't it interesting that no matter what the current global crisis is, according to leftists, the solution is always the same: a benevolent world dictatorship of the enlightened elite, and mass transfer of wealth from rich nations to poor nations.
That's what they want to do about global warming. It's what they wanted to do about overpopulation. It's what they wanted to do about endangered species.
Yeah, I think Jonah Goldberg wrote a good book with this thesis.

Moscow 1963

In the summer of 1963, my father was one of six lay delegates from the American Lutheran Church to the Fourth Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation in Helsinki, Finland. A Google search reveals that the assembly lasted from July 30 through August 11, but my parents were gone pretty much all summer. My older brother and I spent the summer in Annapolis, Maryland, with our uncle the spy and his family. (He was actually an intelligence analyst, but we called him a spy.)
Sometime during the summer, my parents were part of a group from the Assembly that took a side trip to Moscow for several days. This was the height of the Cold War, less than a year after the Cuban missile crisis, and it was rare for Americans to visit the USSR. The slides that my parents took have been gathering dust for decades now, but I recently dug them out and thought that some of the images might be of interest to our readers. The color in some cases isn't great; no doubt a better photo editor could improve them. Still, after nearly 50 years they don't look too bad.

Population Bomb Epic Fail

On Monday, the world's 7 billionth person is expected to be born. Somewhere. Look for the media and the usual worn-out handwringers to strike up the usual dirge. I'm sure Paul Ehrlich has a full dance card for the day. The "Tom Friedman Random Column Generator" app can retire early for the day, after disgorging "Hot, Flat, and Even More Crowded, Oh, And By The Way, Did I Mention That China. Is. Awesome.?"
In other words, the whole "population bomb" shtick, the summa of Malthusianism, is going to have another short-lived revival on Monday, though it is likely to be staged so far off-Broadway that Frank Rich's intern won't even give it much coverage after the opening night footlights are switched off. In other words, this milestone is going to be a one-day story, at best.

You have no choice, if you're not in a union, you can't have the job. What do you think this is a free country? You'll be a union member and like it.

What's next for Iraq?
Oct 29, 2011 06:13 am | Coach Collins
By Jim Emerson, staff writer
President Obama announced last week that American forces will leaveIraqby the end of the year. The decision was made when the Administration failed to secure a Status of Forces agreement with the Iraqi Government. Intelligence data has revealed that former Baathist political and ex-military officers were planning a coup to regain power they once had before Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Sunni leaders are becoming concerned that once the Americans leave the Shiite population will retaliate against them for past grievances. During Saddam Hussein's oppressive reign the Sunnis ruled the larger Shiite population as members of the Baath Party.
Libya
As reported in the New York Times, the late Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi supported former Iraq Baath Party officials to overthrow the Iraqi Government. As reported "Hussein Kamal, Iraq's deputy interior minister, said the plot included agitators spread throughout the country's south and just north of Baghdad, and had been planning "terrorist operations and ... "We Can't Wait" -- Oh, Yes We Can!
I want to revisit Obama's "We Can't Wait" theme today. It is becoming more and more apparent that Obama plans on circumventing Congress with increasing frequency. And, of course, no one in big liberal media is speaking out against this obvious abuse of power.
Discussing immigration reform, Obama once said that he would like to "bypass Congress and change the laws on my own." At the time, the media thought he was joking. Maybe not. His administration seems to be making immigration policy on a whim now. And the New York Times reports that Obama may issue a new executive order "each week through the rest of the year."
Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) defended Obama's bypassing of Congress saying, "It's necessary now because it's a gridlock between the president and the United States." Sorry, Charlie, but gridlock does not make it necessary. The president is not a dictator. He is not entitled to get whatever he wants. And while Obama is blaming congressional conservatives for blocking his demands, his fundamental problem is with the Constitution.
In their wisdom, our Founding Fathers created a system of checks and balances dispersing power throughout three branches of government. But Obama is increasingly usurping the powers of the other two branches. He is rewriting legislation with his executive orders, and refusing to defend established law. For example, he unilaterally declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional.
Writing law and determining its constitutionality are functions reserved for Congress and the courts, respectively. You would think a former constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago Law School would know that! But then again, we have never seen his law school grades. Maybe he flunked -- the same way he has failed as president.
The left and the media were apoplectic about George W. Bush's use of executive authority to try to win a war and defend this nation -- precisely the area where a president has the most authority and discretion. What exactly are the national security issues that required rewriting the laws on student loans?
Of course there weren't any. It was a purely political ploy that really won't help anyone, but it gave Obama a good campaign sound bite.
Obama also seems to have a problem with the process of governance. I realize people don't like the bickering in Washington. But there has always been political division and disagreement in Washington since the days of the Federalists and the Whigs.
Yet since his first days as president, Obama has demanded that Congress pass his bills "without delay." Remember how Obama has chided members of Congress asking "What are they waiting for?" Remember the chants of "Pass this bill!"?
That is not the way Congress works. There are subcommittees and full committees in each chamber. Both chambers must vote and then there is a conference committee to work out any differences. The process of governing a nation of 300 million may be slow and ugly, but it takes time to do it right.
Instead, Obama rushed through the stimulus bill, which was full of waste, and rammed through ObamaCare, which was so poorly written he has had to issue over 1,000 waivers and repeal certain sections.
But time is not a luxury Obama has. Each day he grows more desperate to revive an economy struggling under his socialist policies. And in his desperation to produce results he seems to be saying "We can't wait -- to violate the Constitution."
Boehner Responds
Yesterday, Speaker of the House John Boehner spoke out against Barack Obama's attempts to end-run Congress using his executive authority. On the Laura Ingraham show, Boehner said:
"I thought we were a nation of laws and that our country was governed by our Constitution. ...this idea that you are just going to go around the Congress is just, it's almost laughable. And so we are keeping a very close eye on the administration to make sure they are following the law and following the Constitution."
Boehner added that he had "great concerns" that Obama could be violating the Constitution, and the speaker expressed a willingness to use his authority "to limit their use of funds to try to bring this administration to heel." Good for him.
But gird yourselves, my friends. We know this is going to be the most vicious, negative campaign we have seen in years. And yet in the middle of a weak economy and a nasty political campaign, Barack Obama seems intent on instigating a constitutional crisis.
"Push The Envelope!"
If you need more evidence of the kind of campaign we can expect from the Obama White House, consider this Politico interview with White House Chief of Staff Bill Daly.
Daly complained, "It's been a brutal three years. It's been a very, very difficult three years." But as I recently noted, Democrats had huge majorities in both the House and the Senate for Obama's first two years. He got virtually everything he wanted. The few things he didn't get were so radical -- like closing GITMO and cap and trade -- that he couldn't even convince some of his fellow Democrats to go along. But now, Daly reveals, they have a Plan B.
"Let's figure out what we can do [without Congress] and push the envelope on some of these things. On the foreign policy-military side, you can act pretty quickly. That is why the president, based upon frustration, is doing this 'we can't wait.' ... Let's re-emphasize what powers we have! What we can do on our own! Push the envelope!"
When asked if Obama would be happy being a one-term president, as he has suggested in the past, Daly said, "Nope, no, absolutely not! I think he'd be angry! Pi**ed! Unhappy! Frustrated!"
Obama and his radical allies will either rule this country or they will wreck it!

Susan's Paul Ryan Medicare Pamphlet - please print this and give it to your contacts
SAVING MEDICARE
Since 1964, our nation's senior citizens have relied on Medicare to ensure access to healthcare. Now the program is going broke -- and it is going broke fast.
It began spending its reserves in 2008 when payouts exceeded dollars collected for the program. [cite]
Predictions for exhaustion of the reserve vary, with 2024 identified by the Social Security Administration in the Trustees 2011 report. [cite]
The Democrat response is to reduce the amount Medicare reimburses physicians for their services. [cite]
This will result in fewer participating physicians and the physicians continuing in the program seeing fewer Medicare patients.
Patients will wait longer and have fewer choices in seeing a doctor.
If this makes access to care sufficiently untenable, or if Medicare does not get on viable financial footing, it will be administered through ObamaCare[cite].
This would include cost controls by a 15-member board of bureaucrats deciding wich treatments, drugs, and surgeries patients can receive.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, has a plan which saves Medicare with no disruption to today's seniors and reasonable changes for future retirees.
The Ryan Plan is widely misunderstood and misrepresented. The future of our seniors' healthcare is too important to be decided on misinformation. Here are the facts about Medicare and the Ryan Plan.
The Ryan Plan in a Nutshell
Those currently retired and those close to retirement (55 and over) will see no change from the existing Medicare system. Existing physician reimbursement flaws will be corrected to encourage physicians to continue participating in the system.[cite]
On retirement, those currently under 55 will be provided vouchers from the government to help pay for health insurance. Voucher amounts will be based in part on income, with wealthier individuals receiving less assistance. Risk pools [cite] will be created to ensure that insurance companies will provide coverage to seniors, despite their generally higher use of medical care.
The result is retirees will have a system that gives them options, similar to that which members of Congress use and which will include options similar to Medicare Advantage, the popular plan eliminated by Obamacare. [cite]
The Ryan Plan Incorporates These Important Points
It is important that we
Plan now for changes, to avoid chaos later
The medicare system is running out of money. Change is coming, one way or another.
Pretending we can continue as we are is not an option, it is a recipe for disaster. The longer we wait to make changes, the greater the disruption to current and future retires, the more abruptly the changes will have to be implemented, and the fewer options we will have.
By implementing the Ryan Plan now, we will
- maintain the existing system for current retirees and for individuals 55 and over
- provide a sustainable, quality system for future retirees.
It is important that we...
Preserve the existing system, unchanged, for current retirees and workers 55 and older
This bears repeating:
- Under the Ryan Plan, if you are retired, your Medicare coverage will not change.
- If you are over 55, Medicare as it exists today will be there for you when you retire.
- And the Ryan Plan provides for quality health insurance coverage upon retirement for those currently under 55.
It is important that we...
Maintain availability of insurance coverage for future retirees
Since individuals generally require more medical care as they age, it tends to be difficult for older individuals to find private health insurance that will cover them. That is one reason our existing Medicare system is considered so important for many. The Ryan Plan creates risk pools which encourage multiple insurance companies to offer health coverage to those of retirement age.
It is important that we...
Maintain affordability
Individuals have paid into the Medicare system with the promise that coverage will be there for them when they retire. Unfortunately, we are facing an economic crisis in this country and Medicare is a significant part of the problem. To save the system for everyone and to avert broader economic calamity, in the future wealthier Americans will have to bear a greater portion of their healthcare burden.
It is important that we...
Make it feasible for doctors to participate in Medicare
Currently in many areas of the country physicans are reimbursed for Medicare patients at a rate that does not cover their expenses. Recent changes put forth by the Democrats further reduce reimbursement. [cite] This is not sustainable for any business and as a result increasing numbers of physicians are discontinuing their participation in the Medcare program. Patients are finding that their physician is no longer a Medicare provider and when they look for another physician it is increasingly difficult for them to find a Medicare provider who is accepting new patients and can see them in a reasonable time. [cite]. The Ryan plan fixes the reimbursement problem, making it feasible for physicians to continue participating in Medicare.
It is important that we...
Keep medical decisions between patients and doctors, not remote government panels
The Ryan plan harnesses the free market and puts choice in the hands of the patient. Retirees will be able to pick the insurance plan that best meets their needs, applying government vouchers toward premium costs. Medical decisions would be made in consultation with their personal physician, based on the individual's situation and preferences.
